Garage Door Sensors Research
How To Fix Your Garage Door Sensors And Make Simple Repairs
If your garage door isn t working, one cause could be the safety sensors near the bottom of the door.
One sensor sends a beam to the other one as a safety measure. If the beam is broken, it might mean a
person or a pet is under the door, so the door won t operate. The problem is the sensors could get dirty
or short out, and that keeps your door from working. Here s how to check and repair them.
Check The Indicator Lights
Locate the sensors by looking near the bottom of your garage door track. There is one on each side of
the door. Each one has a tiny LED light that indicates it is operational. The sensor that sends the beam
usually has a red light and the one that receives the beam has a green light. If they are working okay,
the lights should be shining steadily. If the light on one or both is blinking or not shining at all, it s a
signal something is wrong.

dirt or a spiderweb in it, it blocks the signal and creates problems with your garage door. After you
clean both sensors, check the lights once again. If the lights are not on, realign the sensors. It s
possible you might move them out of alignment when you clean them. It s also possible one of the
sensors was out of alignment all along and causing the problem. To adjust them, all you have to do is
move one of the sensors a little at a time until the other one picks up the

Survival of the Marine Corps
SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil
War could be based in part on survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to the
United States as a Military Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been small and not
altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine Corps as useful. This
paper will in effect touch on the Marine Corps history from after the Civil War to World War I. It will
then converge on a discussion with regards to the fight against the disestablishment of the Marine
Corps. (Simmons/Moskin 1998) The Marine Corps found its mission in the amphibious landings of

Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines teufel hunden, meaning Devil Dogs.
These beasts were the ferocious mountain dogs of Bavarian folklore. (Sturkey 2003) Soon afterward a
U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine Corps helmet.
Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root with both the Marines and the
public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English Bulldog as their mascot. (Sturkey 2003)
Although the Marine Corps has established itself as a premier fighting force, there were still rumbles
among officials. The original culprits of the war against the Marines were the senior officers in the US
Army. This started immediately after WW I. During the build up for WW II Army General George C.
Marshall was quoted as saying that his job was to keep the Marine Corps, small, very small. General
Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as making similar comments. They were not the only ones.
(wanaki@infi.net Online) Both the Army and Army Air Force were making plans as early as 1943 to
gut the Marines. Marine Lieutenant Colonel Merrill Twining was visiting his brother, Brigadier
General Nathan Twining during that year and he was flabbergasted to learn that the Army officers
there were outwardly proclaiming that they weren t going to allow the Marines to command any Corps
sized units. Admirals Halsey and Nimitz made short shrift

Ancient Persia
The Ancient Persian Empire, also known as the Achaemenid Empire, was the first largest, continental
empire. Under Darius I, it stretched from India to Africa to Southeastern Europe. Ancient Persia by Dr.
Matt Waters is a detailed overview of the period (c. 550 330 BCE) from the predecessors of the mid
first millennium to the Macedonian conquest. Dr. Waters, a professor of Classics and Ancient History
at the University of Wisconsin, is also the author of A Survey of Neo Elamite History (2000) and has
published extensively in academic journals. The impact of the empire, its scope and durability,
and...its ability to project and maintain its power, was revolutionary at the time. The book offers a
general Persian overview while relying on Greek resources and artifacts. The research outlines are
well represented and are useful to readers, highlighting of the difficulties in the Classical era
throughout the discussions. My reflections on the book was very good and I savored it immensely.

economic records from Persepolis, scrappy remnants of archives, references in Hebrew scripture,

Some concepts involved through the issue are risk, confidentiality, environmental health, conflict of
interest, and loyalty. First, the company and peter s career will be in risk if he reported the oil spill to
the state. Second, the engineering law requires confidentiality therefore it is irrelevant that peter report
such an issue that is confidential in the company. Third, the tests were only taken 400 feet from the
surface of the groundwater, however maybe there is contamination deeper or other marine life were
affected. Four, most important concept is the conflict of interest since Peter had to either obey the
engineering law that requires confidentiality and neglect his morals or obey the state law and lose his
friendship and career. Five, Jesse trusted Peter to keep this mysterious spill between them; he should
be loyal to him since they have a trusting relationship. Additionally, Jesse noted that he cannot have a
consulting engineer who doesn t value client loyalty. On the other hand, there are some unknown facts
in the issue. According to state law all spills must be reported but what about spills that occurred years
ago? Where the effects of spill seem to have dissipated? Is there any gasoline concentration beyond
the 400 feet of gasoline? Is the marine life affected by the spill? Will the gasoline contaminate the
ground water years later? Who is responsible to

The Triumph Of French Cuisine Over The Culinary Industry
In today s world it is pretty much assumed that French cuisine is the king of fine dining, and needless
to say that it is a true fact. It is known today that the whole culinary industry centre around the widely
regarded French cuisine. French cuisine is considered as the epitome of quality food. Even in culinary
schools , the first thing that is taught is about the basics of French cooking. Some of the regional
cuisines are also influenced in some or the other way by French cuisine. Many culinary terms being
derived from French Language itself confirms the Triumph of French Cuisine over the Culinary
Industry. French cuisine has went through a lot of ups and downs, but it still is on the pinnacle of its

L. Garvey (2010), Cuisine is an important aspect of the French culture that has been developing for
centuries. It is internationally known and considered by some to be the best in the world. As a result of
globalization, the increasingly interconnectedness of the world, la cuisine has been affected both
positively and negatively. On one hand, the French are witnessing rapidly increasing obesity rates
across the country as they are turning to places like McDonald s instead of the more refined and truly
French options available to them. In addition, wine consumption rates have decreased within the
country, while, at the same time, there has been an increase in cases of binge drinking and underage
drinking. However K. Willcox (2009) believes that France is at a crossroads in the kitchen. Wine
consumption has plummeted by half since the 1960s, and winemakers in Bordeaux, Beaujolais, and
Langueduc are going bankrupt left and right. And while practically all French cheese was made from
raw milk 40 years ago, now only 10 percent is. She also believes that As French culture has seeped out
of its food, American culture has crept in. About 200,000 cafés flourished in France in 1960, while
roughly 41,000 struggle to remain in business

United States Department Of Justice And The Securities And...
The United States Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission rarely enforced
the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, enacted in 1977, until 2010 over a decade since its modern reform
in 1998. This surge in penalization of unethical acts such as bribery and other methods used to ensure
foreign business ventures has been called a new era of FCPA enforcement by the DOJ, resulting in
$1.8 billion in payments accrued from domestic firms and their foreign partners, compared to
$300,000 in 2000 (Kohler). Because of ambiguity within the legislation, especially the undefined
terms foreign official and obtain or retain business, the U.S. government is able to manipulate the
FCPA for monetary gain, as well as shape foreign economies based upon their own values. The FCPA
was composed with good intentions: to end corrupt trade and to create a more even playing field for
American businesses. With that goal in mind, the Act is seemingly viewed as a normative standard to
promote fairness, asserting that transparency and accountability are essential to building an honest and
open global society. However the unclear articulation of the texts have developed inconsistencies in
the way the FPCA is enforced, allowing organizations such as the SEC to utilize its broadness to target
businesses, namely through the agencies interpretation of who a foreign official is and what it means
to obtain or retain business. Firstly, according to the SEC, a foreign official is anyone

Figurative Language In William Blake s The Tiger
Martin Bennett
Engl. 102
6/17/17
The Tiger, originally called The Tyger, is a lyric poem focusing on the nature of God and his creations.
It was published in 1794 in a collection entitled Songs of Experience (1). Poetry Essay Outline Thesis:
The Tiger is a poem by William Blake that routines a lot of underlying themes, throughout the writing.
He asks a series of serious queries concerning the nature of God, and why he created the tiger. The
theme of the poem is about God as the creator of good and evil that leads the reader to think.
The strongest literary element in William Blake s poem The Tyger, which is figurative language.
Figurative language can be defined as anything said or written that means something beyond the literal
meaning of the words that are used (2). The initial lines of Blake s poem are chock full of intense
figurative language: Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, the tiger is not literally
burning, of course, and this metaphor of fire and burning is carried out through the poem and takes on
all sorts of associations, including an association with the infernal. Allusion also plays an important
role in the poem. Stanza two includes an allusion to Icarus, who in classic myth attempts to fly to the
sun ( ...what wings... ). The allusion mixes with the fire imagery, and the idea that the creator forges
the tiger in fire, like a blacksmith. Stanza five contains an allusion to the fall of Satan from heaven

Mao Zedong Of The Soviet Union
Throughout the course of China s vast history, there is not a more controversial, internationally
criticized and locally praised ruler than that of Chairman Mao Zedong. When Chairman Mao took
control of the Chinese government as leader of the newly established Communist Party, he was most
notably commended for helping unite China after years of civil war. After the previous regime left the
country nearly bankrupt, Mao faced the challenge of rebuilding China s economy, and he believed that
it could only be accomplished through true Communism, modeled after the Soviet Union. Mao s
vision was highly approved by the people initially as it reinvented the working class and gave more
power to peasants, but it was not long before the country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, nearly half of the arable land in China was divided amongst peasants. Still, Chairman Mao was
concerned with establishing the country as an international competitor and needed to drastically
increase the industrialization of China, which in turn required a massive increase in production from
the agricultural industry. Thus, in 1953, Chairman Mao encouraged peasant farmers to begin
cooperatively farming in which a few families from the same village pooled together their resources to
have a larger operation. China s reinvented production system enabled peasants to produce larger
harvests, which allowed these cooperatives to become more diversified operations that could now
raise livestock or non grain crops. Because the peasants were able to share their knowledge, tools,
machinery, and the workload, this method of farming proved to be highly successful. Unfortunately,
this type of production agriculture did not last long. Just a few years later, Chairman Mao began to
completely socialize the agricultural system to where it was no longer the people s land but practically
the government s entirely. China established the collectivization process or the commune system in
which people gave up all their animals and tools, and were required to send a large majority of the
grain they produced to the government. The

Female Roles In The Oresteia By Aeschylus
Female Roles in The Oresteia That woman she manoeuvers like a man (Aeschylus 103). This quote
from the Greek tragedy, The Oresteia by Aeschylus, introduces readers to a theme of the piece: the
role of women. Furthermore, this tragedy gives the reader a view on how women played a role in
ancient Greek society. Additionally, it highlights the reaction, from Greek men, to women in
leadership roles. In the following, you will find a historical account of the role of Greek women, and
how Aeschylus shows a different role of women. Therefore, by reading The Oresteia we can get a

After reading this quote, one can see that even a murder by a woman is seen as having less weight.
Despite the cruelty of the murder, Clytemnestra killed her husband / king to get revenge for him
killing their daughter years prior. Essentially, King Agamemnon sacrificed his and Clytemnestra s
daughter for better luck in a war. Furthermore, he was never punished for this killing. Therefore,
seeing that the male led judicial system failed to uphold justice, Clytemnestra took it into her own
hands. Overall, this shows a woman recognizing that justice was being put to the wayside and taking
action to make it right. Now, Aeschylus did not explain if Clytemnestra tried to advocate for her
husband to be punished for her late daughters killing. But, he does make clear that she is not happy
with the way in which the counsel dealt with it. Not surprisingly, a woman in charge of a kingdom
would not be taken so lightly in ancient Greece. As a clear example of this, Clytemnestra s taking of
the reins while the king was at war, was met with a fair amount of backlash. Although not publically
scrutinized, Clytemnestra was seen as not fit for the position because of her gender. In fact, this is very
clear when news of the war ending reached Argos. When the watchman told the queen about Troy
being beaten, Clytemnestra took the news directly to the counsel. When she relayed the message, she
was met with skepticism. For example, a chorus

Edgar Allan Poe Strengths And Weaknesses Essay
Strength vs. Weakness Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Cask of Amontillado , can be categorized as
an American Gothic literary piece due to Poe s selection of elements introduced by the narrator, whom

throughout the plot by the narrations provided, such being the greatly spacious and empty palazzo of

Fasting Feasting By Anita Desai
Anita Desai s novel Fasting, Feasting, is a two part novel set in the 20th century. The first part is
situated in India, while the second is situated in Western Massachusetts, in the United States. Desai
focuses very seriously on the theme of gender and social roles, particularly referring to female
characters. The author reveals that America s society, in those days, placed gender expectations to its
members, especially regarding to female beauty. The written task intends to show how and why
American women are represented through the character of Mrs Patton. This is the reason why, in this
essay I will analyse the first prescribed question, How and why is a social group represented in a

Analysis Of The Book Why America Slept By Gerald Posner
Daniela Reynoso October 17, 2014 Capron Online CRJ 115 05 In the book, Why America Slept: The
Failure to Prevent 9/11, by Gerald Posner he argues that the act of terrorism that occurred on
September 11, 2001 could have and should have been prevented. He presented a powerful case of how
stupidity and misdirected priorities made America an easy aim for terrorists. Gerald Posner, the author
of the book was a former Wall Street Lawyer, award winning investigative journalist and bestselling
author. Posner purposefully wrote this book to demonstrate all the clues that were given out prior to
the attack and inform us on previously undisclosed information after a thorough 18 month
investigation. Posner s goal was to discover what the CIA, FBI, and others in the Government were
doing behind the scenes for at least a decade leading up to 9/11. The intended audience for this book is
anyone who is willing to open their eyes on the true occurrences that happened on 9/11. The title of
the piece is related directly to the book and the subject matter of it. America slept on all the clues that
they received that there would be a terrorist attack and the book demonstrated how exactly they failed
to prevent the acts that occurred on 9/11. Why America Slept is such a staggering book and Posner
successfully demonstrates to the audience how 9/11 could have been prevented through his use of
examples and facts. In this powerful and persuasive book, Gerald Posner reveals after an eighteen

embodying the legends of the ancient Greek warriors. Although bloodlust is not the only way for this
relative glory to be achieved, it is a rather simple way. All one has to do is dedicate himself or herself
to fighting with all of his or her strength possible. There have been many wars and battles that have
molded men into legends, and the Civil War was no different. In Stephen Crane s The Red Badge of
Courage, the story of a Union soldier just wanting glory is graphically told. The personal stories of
every soldier are all unique. Their experiences, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between Modernism And Transcendentalism
In the 19th century, transcendentalism a religious and philosophical movement that developed during
the late 1820s and 30s as a protest against the general state of spirituality and, in particular, the state of
intellectualism was most ubiquitous. As time moved into the late 19th century and early 20th century,
the transcentalistic time period evolved into the realism and modernism a philosophical movement
that, along with cultural trends and changes, arose from wide scale and far reaching transformations
time period. Along with the shift of time periods, art started to change as well. Modernist s art were
more abstract and expressed the issues that were occurring; in contrast, transcendentalists art focused
on nature and staying to oneself. modernism is chaotic while transcendentalism is idyllic. This switch
from transcendentalism to modernism occurred due to scientific innovation, industrialization, and the
world war 1 which transitioned idyllic literature to despair, bleak and abject feelings in literature and
poetry. Scientific innovation, a newly introduced idea that everything has to be proven by science in
order to be accurate , begun heading into the 20th century. Science led to confusion, uncertainty and
unrest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Natural Law Vs Divine Command Theory
The Theory of Natural Law, may be define in three aspects, there being a natural order in the world,
everything having a purpose and how things are and how things ought to be. This theory also states
that humans can distinguish between what is right or wrong through human reason/moral knowledge.
On the other hand, the Divine Command Theory is a view of morality and states that what s right or
wrong is set by God s moral commands. God s commands tell us what is morally obligatory, permitted
and wrong.
The Natural Law tells that humans have a moral knowledge/reason that makes us able to decide what s
right. This has caused various debates on whether people did the right because it was the right thing to
do or because that s what God commands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, not all the Ten Commandants are easy to follow or even go with the time we are living
in. One of the Ten Commandants states that we should not take the name of the Lord in vain, yet today
the Lord s name it s something we say on a daily basis. In addition, religious followers may decide to
act in a harmful or negative way in society and defend themselves by saying that God has command
them to do it; which may lead to extreme religions, where its followers may take every word of the
book to heart and try to carry out those views on their society. This theory makes us question on
whether who came first, God or right, which I believe that right came first. When comparing the
Divine Command with the Minimum Conception, it can be deduced that both are very differing from
each other. One of the reasons is that with the Divine Command, God chooses for us what it s right or
wrong and if it became a moral system, atheists will feel out of place because they have a different set
of believe just like other religions. In conclusion, while both the Natural Law Theory and the Divine
Command Theory have aspects that I don t agree on, both brought interesting ways to look at the
world and the origin of our morals. Personally, I agree more with the Natural Law, since I believe that
people do act on moral knowledge and the world has a natural order. Both theories showed me the
various ways people may think about God and what s

Essay on Queen Elizabeth
The last queen of the Tudor dynasty, Queen Elizabeth I proved to be on of the most celebrated, and
controversial leaders in English history. Raised in a neglectful home, and shadowed by her mother s
reputation, Elizabeth did not have the royal treatment that her siblings received. From her birth, she
was a disappointment, as a child she was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603
reign was troubled. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. To the disappointment of King Henry
VII, her father, she was a presumptive heir to the throne. Elizabeth s older sister, Mary, would have
been heir to the throne, but that was stripped from her when Henry VII divorced her mother, Catherine
of Aragon. Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth s mother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary?s determination was to destroy the Protestant faith in England. One of her acts as queen was
confining Elizabeth to the Tower of London for two months on suspicion of collaborating against her
plans. Mary suspected that she was pregnant, and Elizabeth?s probability at descending the throne was
diminishing rapidly, although Mary recognized Elizabeth as heir to the throne. It turned out Mary was
not pregnant, and she became very ill. On November 17, 1558 she died. On January 15, 1559
Elizabeth became queen at the age of twenty five. A light snow fell on the packed London streets as
the new queen was celebrated. The queen repeatedly told her people ?I thank you with all my heart.?
After the coronation ceremony, Elizabeth sat down to a lavish ten hour banquet. Many challenged the
queen?s right to absolute power. John Knox stated ?Women are unsuited to rule.? Elizabeth made it
abundantly clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed charming
men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and courtiers did not take their
positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of royal displeasure and displays of humor and
warmth. Elizabeth was considered by most to be a gorgeous queen, and her beauty was unmatched.
During her childhood, while living with Catherine Parr, Elizabeth experienced emotional distress
which many believe affected her love

A Resident Of South Africa
An individual who is not ordinarily resident in South Africa can still be a resident of South Africa
provided that person meets the requirements of the physical presence test (Stiglingh, Koekemoer, Van
Schalkwyk, Wilcocks e Swardt.2012:51).
With the physical presence test, with which a natural person, who is not at any time ordinarily resident
in the Republic of South Africa during the relevant year of assessment, must comply before that
person will be a resident as defined in section 1. This can further be elaborated by Interpretation Note
4 dated 4 February 2004.
The physical presence test, also known as the day test or time rule , is based on the number of days
that a natural person is physically present in the Republic. The purpose or nature of the visit is
irrelevant. It must be determined annually whether all the requirements of the physical presence test
have been met.
Paragraph (a) (ii) of the definition of a resident in section 1(1) of the Income Tax Act refers to a
natural person who is not at any time during the relevant year of assessment ordinarily resident in the
Republic. The ordinarily residence test supersedes the physical presence test. The physical presence
test is thus not applicable during any year of assessment that a person is ordinarily resident in the
Republic.
In terms of section 1 paragraph (a) of the Income Tax Act, for an individual to be physically present in
South Africa during a year of assessment, the person must be present in

Second Language Acquisition Essay
Second language acquisition has long been the focus of linguists and researchers in the teaching field.
It highlights the process and theories of acquiring second languages among learners. Second language
acquisition seeks to understand the development of second language acquisition among second
language learners. Mastering the knowledge of second language acquisition helps teachers to
successfully provide effective teaching for students. Undeniably, knowledge on second language
acquisition is very much related to effective teaching of second languages. Many linguists and teacher
educators believe that all language teachers should be equipped with knowledge of second language
acquisition to help them teach effectively. Additionally, most teacher training programmers have
incorporated second language acquisition as a compulsory course to make sure that all future language
teachers are well equipped with enough knowledge to teach in classroom.
Then again, the relationship between second language acquisition and effective second language
teaching is still being discussed. Hence, this paper aims to explain ways in which knowledge of
second language acquisition helps language teachers to provide a better and effective second language
teaching in classrooms by highlighting three main ideas; knowledge of second language acquisition
helps teachers to understand the different needs of students, to design a good second language course
and effective teaching method for learners, and to

Observation Paper On The Empire State Building
Tihun Lowe
ARC 2701
Observation Paper (Empire State Building)
The Empire State Building is a skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its
construction began on March 17, 1930, and was completed on April 11, 1931. John Jacob Raskob, the
creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter Chrysler s
building. He went to William Lamb, someone who was a partner at the architectural firm of Shreve,
Lamb, and Harmon and he explains to him his dream of a skyscraper that would exceed the Chrysler
Building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only two criteria that were
needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must resemble a pencil. The
second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the world. Although the
building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up finishing 45 days
ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million dollars under budget.
The Empire State Building was then viewed as a new symbol of what felt like a New America. During
the 1920s and the 1930s, the United States was being split from an old style of rural traditions and
eventually was beginning to make modern urban traditions. When the Empire State Building was
being built, it began to fuel the power and wealth of the clients who were children of immigrants, this
then served as a legitimacy status began to represent the face of the

How Significant Was The Threat Posed Of Royal Authority By...
How significant was the threat posed to royal authority by the Western rising of 1549?
Prior to the Western rising, also known as the Prayer Book rebellion, England had experienced
uprisings. The Amicable Grant uprising in 1525 and the Pilgrimage of Grace in 1536 are just two
examples of monumental uprisings that occurred. In 1549, large swathes of the country (23 counties)
were shaken by rebellions. The huge geographical extent of the rebellions made them the most
serious, widespread movements of disorder since the Peasants Revolt of 1381. One of the rebellions
that posed as a particular threat was the Western rebellion in Devon and Cornwall. Some historians
argue that the Western Rising was not a significant threat to royal ... Show more content on

Instead they remained loyal to their monarchy.
The Western rising could be considered as a significant threat for a number of reasons, one of these
being that the rebels had a total disregard for any of the new laws concerning the new Prayer Book,
which, on the 21 January 1549, passed both Houses of Parliament. A rule was made for the laymen
anyone attacking the Book or procuring a cleric to use any other form of worship would suffer a rising
scale of fines, losing all possessions on his third offence. This rule was soon broken as parishioners of
Sampford Courtenay (Devon), in the words of John Hooker, forced their priest to put on his old popish
attire and conduct the mass in Latin as in past times accustomed , which immdedately broke th rule of
procuring a cleric to use any other form of worship. Another example of the people not reacting
positively to the new changes can be shown in the death of William Body. He was a commissioner in
Cornwall that was sent to Helston to remove all symbols of Catholicism. When he arrived a mob, led
by Martin Geffrey, the priest of St Keverne set upon him and killed him...the murder of body was the
first violent expression of their hostility to Protestant demolition of traditional rituals . This proves
exactly how willing the Cornish to break any laws connected with the new religious policy. This
shows the rebellion would be a threat because there was a sudden reaction of discontent for the
religious

Dorothea Lynd Dix Research Paper
From the early years of her youth, Dorothea Lynd Dix endured more than her fair share of burdens and
obstacles. While growing up in Maine throughout the early 1800 s, her journey began with her
impoverished, dysfunctional family. Dorothea s father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable religious preacher
and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained emotionally distant (Staff,
History.com 2009). Growing up as the eldest, Dorothea felt a responsibility to take great care of her
siblings and family. Ultimately, her family s shortcomings and her compassion were what fueled her
desire to help the less fortunate and helpless.
With limited schooling and access to job professions as a female, Dorothea still exhibited a passion for
education and learning. As she grew older, she acted upon her passion and became a schoolteacher for
children who needed an education. She even worked to develop and open up various schools for
children and each with an established curriculum (Staff, History.com 2009). However, after
experiencing serious episodes of sickness, she stopped her teaching and began to write educational
textbooks for the youth instead, some of which were published in the late 1820 s to the 1840 s (Wood,
Andrew G.).

Customers don t like to wait, they want it now! A quick response to RFQS will satisfy the customer
which in the long run will reduce CCC s lead time and possibly match the customers expected time.
Furthermore, customers need to stop sending quotes directly to TSS. Maybe by advertising, all RFQs
must be sent to our sales administrator for processing purposes. In Step1: Response to quote request, a
modular design should be used for new products. This would cut the time in designing, reducing parts
and abridging assembly for CCC s engineering team. As well as eliminating errors from 40% to 0. The
TSS should also be using the ERP system to check to see if materials and shipping options are
available; so that a better quote package can be determined. Step 3: Sales order entry, it should not
take the planning department within 4 hours to enter data. This step needs to be taken as soon as
possible. Mistakes are costly and having 25% in errors are not acceptable so if we trim the timing of
entering the data CCC still has wiggle room to produce the sales order package effectively and have
material arrive on time . In Step 4: Work order Entry and Release to Stockroom, this step is perfect. It
s important to keep both ERP and MRP systems up to date so every department knows what is going
on.

Information Systems And Knowledge Management
Knowledge Management as per NASA can also be defined as getting the right information at the right
time without delay while helping people create knowledge and share and act upon information in ways
that will measurably improve the performance of NASA and its partners. A DSS has been defined as
an interactive and adaptable computer based information system that supports non structured
management problems. Information systems have been linked with Knowledge Management systems
to help in making more informed and scientific decisions. Knowledge Management can be described
as a practice of capturing tacit knowledge and converting it into explicit knowledge through filtering,
storing, retrieving and disseminating the same. Decision support through knowledge management
emanates from intelligent DSS (primarily based on artificial intelligence and expert systems), and
knowledge management and organizational learning. Knowledge management based DSS evolved
from the study of intelligent DSSs, which was founded as an enhancement of personal DSSs through
integration of theories from artificial intelligence and expert systems. Data warehouse is usually a
driver and an important component for a Data driven DSS. It is a copy of transaction data specifically
structured for query and analysis and a component to store data for a Data driven DSS. Vast amount of
data is stored in databases and other semi structured sources. They are then extracted from these

Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms
World War I was a time of constant worry and woe for the destruction caused to the European
countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts the life of an American ambulance driver working for the
Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating
elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. One of the most
effective tools to display the destruction and chaos of this war was Hemingway s writing style, clearly
seen in the opening of Chapter Twenty One. This passage, while introducing a devastating point of the
war to the reader, demonstrates Hemingway s dark but witty style through the discursive and wistful
tone, varying figures of speech, and repetitive and brutal diction in order to effectively convey the
current state of the narrator and the war.
Hemingway s tone, shown through the narrator s lack of focus on one particular subject as well as the
almost wistful remarks of past events, reflects not only the unorganized chaos occurring in the Italian
countryside but also the author s dark style. The dismal mood illustrates the chaos in a passive and
distant way, creating a sober tone that contributes to the dark style. Fredric Henry laments because that
[t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well as riots twice in the town
against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these events, there is also an element
of nostalgia and longing towards the

How Stress Affects Cognitive Abilities
It is known that stress has a strong affect on individuals. A great deal of research has focused on how
stress affects cognitive abilities. Sometimes the effect is impairment of ability to perform tasks within

study on how stress induced psychosocially affects college students abilities to perform an n back WM
task at both high and low loads. It is expected that stress will significantly impact performance on the

Vedhara et al. (2000) noticed that some tests of working memory were affected by stress while others
were not. Visual and verbal WM were impaired and auditory WM was not. Further limitations to how

significantly impaired during high workloads, but not during low WM loads. However, Schoofs et al.
(2008) found that WM was impaired in both high and low workloads. They also discovered that the
longer a task was performed the better participants did even when stressed. In research to find what
makes working memory tasks so difficult under stressed conditions Weerda et al. (2010) used fMRI to
isolate the effects of stress on WM to encoding and retrieval. It is known that working memory is
affected by stress, however more research in the field is needed to discover to what extent and exactly
how it is affected. The goal of this study is to broaden the current understanding of how stress affects
WM. Participants will be exposed to a stress inducing situation or a controlled, non stressful situation
followed by a high or low load WM task. Achievement on the WM task along with a self report will
be examined to determine whether or not WM was affected and which process; encoding,
maintenance, or retrieval, was affected most. It is hypothesized that stressed participants will perform

The Effects Of Psychological Trauma On Women s Childhood...
Quantitative Article Review
The Purpose of the Study.
According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC, 2014), over 60% of insured adults in the U.S. had experienced childhood trauma,
with 16% admitting to multiple types of abuse. This number can be even higher if the study sample
included uninsured individuals, especially those who were in the high risk, low socioeconomic status,
and underrepresented population. Child abuse and neglect can cause both short term and long term
effects, such as improper brain development, impaired cognitive and socio emotional skills, lower
language development, and high risk for chronic diseases, anxiety, and substance abuse (CDC, 2016).
Given this information, the purpose of the study by Grabbe, Ball and Hall (2016) is to explore the
severity of psychological trauma in women who were abused as a child (Grabbe, Ball, Hall, 2016).
The goal is to gain an understanding of what happened during the women s childhood that may have
prevented them from further abuse (Grabbe, et al., 2016). Consequently, using that information to
conceptualize interventions for prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent abuse (Grabbe,
et al., 2016).
Design, sampling techniques and data collection. Was data collection clearly described and justified?
The main objective as stated within the article was to explore trauma survivors perspectives on what

  • 2. Garage Door Sensors Research How To Fix Your Garage Door Sensors And Make Simple Repairs If your garage door isn t working, one cause could be the safety sensors near the bottom of the door. One sensor sends a beam to the other one as a safety measure. If the beam is broken, it might mean a person or a pet is under the door, so the door won t operate. The problem is the sensors could get dirty or short out, and that keeps your door from working. Here s how to check and repair them. Check The Indicator Lights Locate the sensors by looking near the bottom of your garage door track. There is one on each side of the door. Each one has a tiny LED light that indicates it is operational. The sensor that sends the beam usually has a red light and the one that receives the beam has a green light. If they are working okay, the lights should be shining steadily. If the light on one or both is blinking or not shining at all, it s a signal something is wrong. Clean The Eyes ... Survival of the Marine Corps SURVIVAL OF THE MARINE CORPS The Marine Corps historical characteristics after the Civil War could be based in part on survivability and the need for the Marine Corps to prove its worth to the United States as a Military Force. The Marine Corps part in the Civil War had been small and not altogether impressive. Both the Army and the Navy did not regard the Marine Corps as useful. This paper will in effect touch on the Marine Corps history from after the Civil War to World War I. It will then converge on a discussion with regards to the fight against the disestablishment of the Marine Corps. Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines teufel hunden, meaning Devil Dogs. These beasts were the ferocious mountain dogs of Bavarian folklore. (Sturkey 2003) Soon afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root with both the Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English Bulldog as their mascot. (Sturkey 2003) Although the Marine Corps has established itself as a premier fighting force, there were still rumbles among officials. The original culprits of the war against the Marines were the senior officers in the US Army. This started immediately after WW I. During the build up for WW II Army General George C. Marshall was quoted as saying that his job was to keep the Marine Corps, small, very small. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as making similar comments. They were not the only ones. (wanaki@infi.net Online) Both the Army and Army Air Force were making plans as early as 1943 to gut the Marines. Marine Lieutenant Colonel Merrill Twining was visiting his brother, Brigadier General Nathan Twining during that year and he was flabbergasted to learn that the Army officers there were outwardly proclaiming that they weren t going to allow the Marines to command any Corps sized units. Under Darius I, it stretched from India to Africa to Southeastern Europe. Ancient Persia by Dr. Matt Waters is a detailed overview of the period (c. 550 330 BCE) from the predecessors of the mid first millennium to the Macedonian conquest. Dr. Waters, a professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Wisconsin, is also the author of A Survey of Neo Elamite History (2000) and has published extensively in academic journals. The impact of the empire, its scope and durability, and...its ability to project and maintain its power, was revolutionary at the time. The book offers a general Persian overview while relying on Greek resources and artifacts. The research outlines are well represented and are useful to readers, highlighting of the difficulties in the Classical era throughout the discussions. Third, the tests were only taken 400 feet from the surface of the groundwater, however maybe there is contamination deeper or other marine life were affected. Four, most important concept is the conflict of interest since Peter had to either obey the engineering law that requires confidentiality and neglect his morals or obey the state law and lose his friendship and career. Five, Jesse trusted Peter to keep this mysterious spill between them; he should be loyal to him since they have a trusting relationship. Additionally, Jesse noted that he cannot have a consulting engineer who doesn t value client loyalty. On the other hand, there are some unknown facts in the issue. According to state law all spills must be reported but what about spills that occurred years ago? Where the effects of spill seem to have dissipated? Garvey (2010), Cuisine is an important aspect of the French culture that has been developing for centuries. It is internationally known and considered by some to be the best in the world. As a result of globalization, the increasingly interconnectedness of the world, la cuisine has been affected both positively and negatively. On one hand, the French are witnessing rapidly increasing obesity rates across the country as they are turning to places like McDonald s instead of the more refined and truly French options available to them. In addition, wine consumption rates have decreased within the country, while, at the same time, there has been an increase in cases of binge drinking and underage drinking. However K. Willcox (2009) believes that France is at a crossroads in the kitchen. Wine consumption has plummeted by half since the 1960s, and winemakers in Bordeaux, Beaujolais, and Langueduc are going bankrupt left and right. And while practically all French cheese was made from raw milk 40 years ago, now only 10 percent is. The United States Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission rarely enforced the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, enacted in 1977, until 2010 over a decade since its modern reform in 1998. This surge in penalization of unethical acts such as bribery and other methods used to ensure foreign business ventures has been called a new era of FCPA enforcement by the DOJ, resulting in $1.8 billion in payments accrued from domestic firms and their foreign partners, compared to $300,000 in 2000 (Kohler). Because of ambiguity within the legislation, especially the undefined terms foreign official and obtain or retain business, the U.S. government is able to manipulate the FCPA for monetary gain, as well as shape foreign economies based upon their own values. The FCPA was composed with good intentions: to end corrupt trade and to create a more even playing field for American businesses. With that goal in mind, the Act is seemingly viewed as a normative standard to promote fairness, asserting that transparency and accountability are essential to building an honest and open global society. However the unclear articulation of the texts have developed inconsistencies in the way the FPCA is enforced, allowing organizations such as the SEC to utilize its broadness to target businesses, namely through the agencies interpretation of who a foreign official is and what it means to obtain or retain business. It was published in 1794 in a collection entitled Songs of Experience (1). Poetry Essay Outline Thesis: The Tiger is a poem by William Blake that routines a lot of underlying themes, throughout the writing. He asks a series of serious queries concerning the nature of God, and why he created the tiger. The theme of the poem is about God as the creator of good and evil that leads the reader to think. The strongest literary element in William Blake s poem The Tyger, which is figurative language. Figurative language can be defined as anything said or written that means something beyond the literal meaning of the words that are used (2). The initial lines of Blake s poem are chock full of intense figurative language: Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, the tiger is not literally burning, of course, and this metaphor of fire and burning is carried out through the poem and takes on all sorts of associations, including an association with the infernal. Allusion also plays an important role in the poem. Stanza two includes an allusion to Icarus, who in classic myth attempts to fly to the sun ( ...what wings... ). The allusion mixes with the fire imagery, and the idea that the creator forges the tiger in fire, like a blacksmith. Stanza five contains an allusion to the fall of Satan from heaven (the stars ... After the previous regime left the country nearly bankrupt, Mao faced the challenge of rebuilding China s economy, and he believed that it could only be accomplished through true Communism, modeled after the Soviet Union. Mao s vision was highly approved by the people initially as it reinvented the working class and gave more power to peasants, but it was not long before the country ... Still, Chairman Mao was concerned with establishing the country as an international competitor and needed to drastically increase the industrialization of China, which in turn required a massive increase in production from the agricultural industry. Thus, in 1953, Chairman Mao encouraged peasant farmers to begin cooperatively farming in which a few families from the same village pooled together their resources to have a larger operation. China s reinvented production system enabled peasants to produce larger harvests, which allowed these cooperatives to become more diversified operations that could now raise livestock or non grain crops. Because the peasants were able to share their knowledge, tools, machinery, and the workload, this method of farming proved to be highly successful. Unfortunately, this type of production agriculture did not last long. Just a few years later, Chairman Mao began to completely socialize the agricultural system to where it was no longer the people s land but practically the government s entirely. China established the collectivization process or the commune system in which people gave up all their animals and tools, and were required to send a large majority of the grain they produced to the government. This quote from the Greek tragedy, The Oresteia by Aeschylus, introduces readers to a theme of the piece: the role of women. Furthermore, this tragedy gives the reader a view on how women played a role in ancient Greek society. Additionally, it highlights the reaction, from Greek men, to women in leadership roles. In the following, you will find a historical account of the role of Greek women, and how Aeschylus shows a different role of women. After reading this quote, one can see that even a murder by a woman is seen as having less weight. Despite the cruelty of the murder, Clytemnestra killed her husband / king to get revenge for him killing their daughter years prior. Essentially, King Agamemnon sacrificed his and Clytemnestra s daughter for better luck in a war. Furthermore, he was never punished for this killing. Therefore, seeing that the male led judicial system failed to uphold justice, Clytemnestra took it into her own hands. Overall, this shows a woman recognizing that justice was being put to the wayside and taking action to make it right. Now, Aeschylus did not explain if Clytemnestra tried to advocate for her husband to be punished for her late daughters killing. But, he does make clear that she is not happy with the way in which the counsel dealt with it. Not surprisingly, a woman in charge of a kingdom would not be taken so lightly in ancient Greece. As a clear example of this, Clytemnestra s taking of the reins while the king was at war, was met with a fair amount of backlash. Although not publically scrutinized, Clytemnestra was seen as not fit for the position because of her gender. In fact, this is very clear when news of the war ending reached Argos. When the watchman told the queen about Troy being beaten, Clytemnestra took the news directly to the counsel. When she relayed the message, she was met with skepticism. For example, a chorus ... Natural Law Vs Divine Command Theory The Theory of Natural Law, may be define in three aspects, there being a natural order in the world, everything having a purpose and how things are and how things ought to be. This theory also states that humans can distinguish between what is right or wrong through human reason/moral knowledge. On the other hand, the Divine Command Theory is a view of morality and states that what s right or wrong is set by God s moral commands. God s commands tell us what is morally obligatory, permitted and wrong. The Natural Law tells that humans have a moral knowledge/reason that makes us able to decide what s right. This has caused various debates on whether people did the right because it was the right thing to do or because that s what God commands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, not all the Ten Commandants are easy to follow or even go with the time we are living in. One of the Ten Commandants states that we should not take the name of the Lord in vain, yet today the Lord s name it s something we say on a daily basis. In addition, religious followers may decide to act in a harmful or negative way in society and defend themselves by saying that God has command them to do it; which may lead to extreme religions, where its followers may take every word of the book to heart and try to carry out those views on their society. This theory makes us question on whether who came first, God or right, which I believe that right came first. When comparing the Divine Command with the Minimum Conception, it can be deduced that both are very differing from each other. One of the reasons is that with the Divine Command, God chooses for us what it s right or wrong and if it became a moral system, atheists will feel out of place because they have a different set of believe just like other religions. In conclusion, while both the Natural Law Theory and the Divine Command Theory have aspects that I don t agree on, both brought interesting ways to look at the world and the origin of our morals. With the physical presence test, with which a natural person, who is not at any time ordinarily resident in the Republic of South Africa during the relevant year of assessment, must comply before that person will be a resident as defined in section 1. This can further be elaborated by Interpretation Note 4 dated 4 February 2004. The physical presence test, also known as the day test or time rule , is based on the number of days that a natural person is physically present in the Republic. The purpose or nature of the visit is irrelevant. It must be determined annually whether all the requirements of the physical presence test have been met. Paragraph (a) (ii) of the definition of a resident in section 1(1) of the Income Tax Act refers to a natural person who is not at any time during the relevant year of assessment ordinarily resident in the Republic. The ordinarily residence test supersedes the physical presence test. The huge geographical extent of the rebellions made them the most serious, widespread movements of disorder since the Peasants Revolt of 1381. The Western rising could be considered as a significant threat for a number of reasons, one of these being that the rebels had a total disregard for any of the new laws concerning the new Prayer Book, which, on the 21 January 1549, passed both Houses of Parliament. A rule was made for the laymen anyone attacking the Book or procuring a cleric to use any other form of worship would suffer a rising scale of fines, losing all possessions on his third offence. This rule was soon broken as parishioners of Sampford Courtenay (Devon), in the words of John Hooker, forced their priest to put on his old popish attire and conduct the mass in Latin as in past times accustomed , which immdedately broke th rule of procuring a cleric to use any other form of worship. Another example of the people not reacting positively to the new changes can be shown in the death of William Body. • 33. Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms World War I was a time of constant worry and woe for the destruction caused to the European countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts the life of an American ambulance driver working for the Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. One of the most effective tools to display the destruction and chaos of this war was Hemingway s writing style, clearly seen in the opening of Chapter Twenty One. This passage, while introducing a devastating point of the war to the reader, demonstrates Hemingway s dark but witty style through the discursive and wistful tone, varying figures of speech, and repetitive and brutal diction in order to effectively convey the current state of the narrator and the war. Hemingway s tone, shown through the narrator s lack of focus on one particular subject as well as the almost wistful remarks of past events, reflects not only the unorganized chaos occurring in the Italian countryside but also the author s dark style. The dismal mood illustrates the chaos in a passive and distant way, creating a sober tone that contributes to the dark style. Fredric Henry laments because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well as riots twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these events, there is also an element of nostalgia and longing towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. How Stress Affects Cognitive Abilities It is known that stress has a strong affect on individuals. A great deal of research has focused on how stress affects cognitive abilities. Sometimes the effect is impairment of ability to perform tasks within working memory (WM), which has received much less research. The current research proposes a study on how stress induced psychosocially affects college students abilities to perform an n back WM task at both high and low loads. It is expected that stress will significantly impact performance on the task in both the low workload and high workload levels. Expected analysis will be a two way ANOVA with planned comparison t tests. This research will advance current understanding on how WM is affected by stress and provide a basis for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vedhara et al. (2000) noticed that some tests of working memory were affected by stress while others were not. Visual and verbal WM were impaired and auditory WM was not. Further limitations to how stress affect WM were noticed when Oei et al. (2006) found that when participants stressed WM was significantly impaired during high workloads, but not during low WM loads. However, Schoofs et al. (2008) found that WM was impaired in both high and low workloads. They also discovered that the longer a task was performed the better participants did even when stressed. In research to find what makes working memory tasks so difficult under stressed conditions Weerda et al. (2010) used fMRI to isolate the effects of stress on WM to encoding and retrieval. It is known that working memory is affected by stress, however more research in the field is needed to discover to what extent and exactly how it is affected. The goal of this study is to broaden the current understanding of how stress affects WM. Participants will be exposed to a stress inducing situation or a controlled, non stressful situation followed by a high or low load WM task. Achievement on the WM task along with a self report will be examined to determine whether or not WM was affected and which process; encoding, maintenance, or retrieval, was affected most. It is hypothesized that stressed participants will perform worse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Effects Of Psychological Trauma On Women s Childhood... Quantitative Article Review The Purpose of the Study. According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2014), over 60% of insured adults in the U.S. had experienced childhood trauma, with 16% admitting to multiple types of abuse. This number can be even higher if the study sample included uninsured individuals, especially those who were in the high risk, low socioeconomic status, and underrepresented population. Child abuse and neglect can cause both short term and long term effects, such as improper brain development, impaired cognitive and socio emotional skills, lower language development, and high risk for chronic diseases, anxiety, and substance abuse (CDC, 2016). Given this information, the purpose of the study by Grabbe, Ball and Hall (2016) is to explore the severity of psychological trauma in women who were abused as a child (Grabbe, Ball, Hall, 2016). The goal is to gain an understanding of what happened during the women s childhood that may have prevented them from further abuse (Grabbe, et al., 2016). Consequently, using that information to conceptualize interventions for prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent abuse (Grabbe, et al., 2016). Design, sampling techniques and data collection. Was data collection clearly described and justified? The main objective as stated within the article was to explore trauma survivors perspectives on what had happened to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
