Role Of Women In Sundiata
When it comes to the places and roles of women in Sundiata and in Malian society as depicted in the
book Sundiata, women are held in a place very much unattached and unequal to men. Their roles,
throughout the book, are defined only in relationship to men who hold higher positions of authority
and often control the women with whom they are in relations with. Basically, the book takes place in a
sort of patriarchal society while allowing women very few rights and powers. Like I had said before,
they essentially view the women as their relations and not very much anything else. In this society
women are also excluded from official positions of power. To begin with, the epic in fact is related by
a man, and there is not one indication of any woman griots anywhere within the novel. Right after a
recitation of the kings of Mali leading up to Maghan Kon Fatta (Sundiata s father), a female character
is mentioned for the first time: Oh that woman! She is ugly, she is hideous, and she bares on her back
a disfiguring hump. Her monstrous eyes seem to have been merely laid on her face, but, mystery of
mysteries, this is the woman you must marry, sire, for she will be the mother of him who will make
the name of Mali immortal forever (Sundiata, 6). Seemingly right after the first female character is
introduced, she is picked apart describing her physical appearance, and then to her what would be
future roles of wife and mother. Admittedly, the prior is certainly to provide contrast

Abstract
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Russian Physiologist that was born in Ryazan. He was born into a
Russian Orthodox family and was originally planning to follow in his father s footsteps as a priest. His
high school training was received in an ecclesiastical seminary in Ryazan. He graduated afterwards
from the Natural Sciihck Faculity of the University of St. Petersburg, and in 1879 obtained his M.D.
degree from the Medico Chirurgical Academy in that city. He became a professor of physiology in
1895 at the Imperial Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg, where he did research on the

Under his 45 year direction, this Institute became one of the most important centers of physiological
research (Babkin, 1949). In 1890, Pavlov was selected as Professor of Pharmacology at the Military
Medical Academy. Five years later, he was chosen to the then vacant Chair of Physiology, a position
he held until 1925.
Ivan Pavlov was known for many things. From studying digestion to studying the circulatory system
to studying nerves directing the digestive glands, he had an abundance of skill and knowledge. In
1889, he discovered the nerves controlling the gastric glands in which he received the 1904 Nobel
Prize in Physiology or Medicine. After setting aside his initial plan to follow his father into priesthood,
Pavlov received a medical degree at age 33 and spent the next two decades studying the digestive
system; but it wasn t until the last three decades of his life when he performed the experiments that
earned him his fame and significant place in history.
Classical conditioning is defined as a type of learning in which one learns to link two or more stimuli
and anticipate events (Myers 2011). At first, it was his creative mind that set off on an incidental
observation. He noticed by putting food in a dogs mouth causes the animal to salivate. Not only did
that cause salivation, but the sight of food, smell of food, the food dish, and even the person bringing
the food did as well. This sparked his thoughts into trying to imagine

What were the main arguments of Paul s opponents in Galatia? What arguments did Paul use to
respond to them? Undoubtedly, the author of Galatians was Paul and it may have been the earliest of
his letters. It s brief, emotional and controversial, and its importance far exceeds its size. Martin
Luther, claimed Galatians as my epistle. I am married to it and this letter became the cornerstone of
the Protestant Reformation. Paul s letter is addressed to the churches in Galatia (Galatians 1.2) but the
location of these churches is a matter of debate. A minority of scholars have argued that Galatia is an
ethnic reference to a Celtic people living in northern Asia Minor, but there is no evidence that Paul
ever visited that region. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul is disappointed and exasperated, that the Galatians had been so readily persuaded by these
teachers and he was determined to get them back on track. The true apostle Galatians 1.1 2.21
Significantly there is no thanksgiving in this letter. Paul is so agitated that he dispenses with
thanksgiving and launches straight into his argument. I am astonished that you are so quickly
deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel (Galatians
1.6) Unflinchingly, he sets out his credentials and then insists that he is a true apostle, chosen and
appointed by God, and argues strongly that he needed no authorization from Jerusalem. He knew that
the gospel he received after his experience on the road to Damascus was the message he was to preach
and that is why he could claim to be an apostle, just like the original disciples. He dismisses their
accusation adding that the mission given by God was also approved by Peter, James and John.
(Galatians 2.9) As a Jew, a Roman citizen, a Pharisee who had become a Christian, he could see both
sides of the story, and was uniquely equipped to fulfil the role of spreading the Christian message to
the Gentile world. The

The Cold War Between East And West From The End Of The...
From 1948 to 1991 countless anti communist films were made, dominating the stage of transnational
politics and geostrategic affairs between East and West from the beginning to the end of the USSR.
The Cold War would impose an atmosphere bursting with tension on the world film production arena.
The main tense issues that prevailed included but were not limited to: Communist expansionism,
American Imperialism, an arms race including a nuclear menace, the subjugation of space, and the
infamous intelligence and counter espionage clash. It is important to note that the skirmishes amongst
these main actors the Unites States and The Soviet Union was not only in the domain of defense and
economy, but also encompassed ideology and culture. The latter was especially mirrored in the
cinema.
From the nonviolent coexistence to the climax and fall of prevalent democracies, and all that is within
cinema has reflected the societal patterns of major periods in history. Furthermore, the media s
evolvement as an effective propaganda machine used mainly for denunciation purposes secured the
box office a chief function in the Cold War. A multitude of films were introduced with varying
dimensions on the same topic. The Iron Curtain (1948) along with The Invasion of The Body
Snatchers (1956) and The Witch Hunt (1994) were amongst films which proliferated during the
period.

Christians and the Environment
Christian theology states that God created the earth and gave it as a gift to humans to be shared with
all other living creatures. This belief is known as the Creation centered approach to the natural
environment (Massaro, p.163). This approach emphasizes the value of nature by recognizing humans
as being an equal part of God s creation under which all species deserve protection (Massaro, p.163).
With such publicly known cases of pollution like the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico or Bethlehem
Steel s pollution of Lake Erie decades ago, it is evident that humans have been using the environment
in accordance with the Stewardship or even the Dominion model, both of which place humans above
all other creations. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Nawaraj argues that natural disasters such as massive earthquakes or volcanic activity are still a
possibility in the area around Yucca Mountain, and that such disasters would inevitably cause the
proposed massive storage container to leak radioactive waste into the land and water supply. This is
why Dr. Nawaraj suggests keeping the radioactive waste in aboveground containers located
throughout the country. Dr. Nawaraj justifies his solution by saying that such facilities maximize the
autonomy and decision processes of future generations...it would allow for the development of new
technologies to deal with the material in better ways than primitive burial (Gudorf and huchingson, p.
110). Government officials had similar thoughts because, facing the objection of the Yucca Mountain
site by the state of Nevada in 2009, the federal government decided not to use Yucca Mountain and
instead, impose an interim solution of storing all nuclear was in aboveground facilities nearby nuclear
power plants (Gudorf and huchingson, p. 114). But which storage method, if any, is the most morally
sound solution when thinking about future generations? Both previously mentioned methods of
storing radioactive waste carry with them some sort of burden for future generations. If history has
taught mankind anything, it is that nature, no matter how many calculations are made, cannot be one
hundred percent accurately predicted, especially over

Light Pollution
Effects of Light Pollution on Ecosystems
Intro
Over time, human populations have been exponentially increasing. This growth has led to a major
increase in demand for resources and space. To achieve their goals, humans have caused major
changes in the surrounding ecosystems in many ways. First, they have cleared many areas thriving
with organisms to build roads and cities destroying different ecosystems. Second, they have
overharvested many species for food and resources causing many species to go extinct. Lastly, they
have polluted natural habitats in numerous ways declining species biodiversity. Many people are
familiar with pollution such as air pollution, trash pollution, and chemical pollution. However, a less
apparent type of pollution that is equally important is the pollution of artificial lighting.
Over the past hundred plus years artificial lighting has increased in use dramatically. From 1992 to
2013 there has been an increase in light intensity on coastal zones of about 42% (Brei et al. 2016).
This increasing use of light has had major impacts on surrounding species on land and in water. Many
organisms are nocturnal or depend on light cues to go on through normal daily activities such as
foraging, migration, and reproduction. This disruption in schedule has seen to have major impacts on
varied species. La Sorte et al. (2017) shows how light pollution affects nocturnal migrating birds.
These birds seemed to be attracted to highly lit urban areas disrupting natural behaviors like
migration. Perkin et al. (2014) displays how artificial lighting can affect insects and their ability to
properly disperse throughout areas. Although light pollution has shown to affect many diverse types of
organisms on land, marine organisms have also been affected. Due to the increase in artificial light
pollution, the marine environment can have disruptions which lead to trophic cascades, changes in
behaviors, and changes in interactions among and between marine species resulting in a loss of
biodiversity. If humans keep on the same track they have been, then biodiversity will be lost, so they
must think of solutions to combat and reduce the effects artificial light pollution has on biodiversity.

Theoretical Perspectives Of Abortion
The Three Theoretical Perspectives on Abortion
Abortion has been a highly debated topic for many years. Until 1973, when abortion was legalized in
the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process.
Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is right. There are
pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives; Structural
Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. This essay explains what the three
theoretical perspectives are and how they view the social issue of abortion.
Structural Functionalism states that everything in society serves a purpose, whether it is positive or
negative. Structuralists look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years, more people have become pro choice because of the many circumstances under which
a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro Life and Pro Choice supporters are almost 50/50 in the
U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down Planned
Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see another
physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business shuts
down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they are
pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no way
of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to another
doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle/upper class would have less unwanted babies,
allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally prepared, while the
lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It
is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but
as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement.

Pierre Trudeau s Actions And Decisions
The October Crisis that occurred in 1970 is quite a controversial topic, however, one can say that
prime minister, Pierre Trudeau handled it quite well. Trudeau s actions and decisions to resolve the
October Crisis were justified. His actions were validated by the FLQ s (Front de Libération du
Quebec) intellectual ideas and the immediate threat he dealt with. Trudeau made quick political
decisions to handle the calamity, however, the immediate crisis was impacting the cities across
Quebec. His actions were proven to be the best and most accurate actions, because the War Measures
Act was successful in eliminating the abrupt crisis. Pierre Elliot Trudeau was a man with good
intentions, and as prime minister he dealt with the October Crisis in a way that ensured the safety of
the province. Trudeau s character and decisions, validates his actions to resolve the crisis in 1970.
The FLQ had many intellectual ideas that forced Trudeau to make the necessary actions towards the
crisis. There were three intentions of the FLQ kidnappings of James Cross and Pierre Laporte. The
FLQ wanted to obtain the release of 23 FLQ members jailed for bombings and other violent offences.
The group wanted to cause confusion, fear and gain publicity and sympathy for their aims of having
Quebec become an independent state, and their third motive was to trigger insurrection and
capitulation. (Tetley, p. 39) These intentions of the FLQ caused harm and chaos to the government and
the public, and

Relaxed Hair Is Better Than Natural Hair Essay
Many people have compared natural hair and relaxed as both being healthy. I strongly agree that
natural hair is healthy for various reasons. I agreed to that because you not using the chemicals that
you use for relaxed hair. For natural hair all you need is water, wild growth and moisturizer. Relaxed
hair make your hair look very thin also you using perms which has chemicals that s not healthy for
your hair. Some women think relaxed hair is better than natural. Why is that ? It s because they think
when your hair natural it s very unlikeable. Natural hair has all the components to grow healthy, long,
and thick hair.
Natural hair does grow healthier than natural hair because you do not use chemicals to harm your hair.
Black women discover their natural kinky hair. Natural hair is thicker because your hair follicles are
textured. Yes I can say when you wash your hair and try to detangle it, it s a challenge to do. Natural
hair is healthier because it doesn t stripped away your hair. With natural hair keep your scalp
moisturized. Natural hair curl pattern is very pretty. I think going natural gives your hair a better
chance to grow since it isn t being damaged by chemicals. Relaxed hair is bad because some people
flat iron they hair every two weeks, that s not good because heat can break your hair off.
Many women spend so much money on there relaxed hair. Relaxed hair is very expensive when you
go to the salon every 2 weeks. After a women decides to go natural, she will not go

The Human Brain Needs Relationship Essay
Today s adolescents I fear will lose sight of human connection and how that human connection creates
the ability to have empathy for others. After conducting my interviews and based on how I see young
people interact what I know is the human brain needs connection to develop empathy. Our brains are
wired to connect with others via mirror neurons and if most communication and socializing happen
through texting and social media our children are at a great risk to lose that ability to connect
physically and emotionally with others. I look forward to diving into this more in my research paper
that I will present in week 5. My first interview was done with my son, DJ. He is in the 8th grade and
comes from a split family. His father and I separated when he was only three years old and this
separation of family was very difficult for DJ, and he still shows signs to this day of broken
attachment. He struggles with emotions, especially controlling his emotions. DJ was primarily raised
by his father and his father s new girlfriend due to a long legal battle that I won t get into.
DJ was raised with his full blood sister, who is 9 years older than him, and two step sisters, one who
was close to his age and another who was a bit older. He was the only boy in a world full of women
and his father wasn t much of a provider. When he was eleven years old, I was granted sole custody.
DJ has experienced more loss and abandonment than any child should ever have to face.

Abortion As A Social Controversy
This problem becomes more complicated when the topic of discussion is controversial. A controversy
can at best be defined as a concept or idea, which produces discord among a number of people (Xu,
Parks, Chu, Zhang, 2010). Controversies therefore, describe information on which a lot of people
strongly disagree creating a false ring of truth around the topic. controversies often have profound
social, political and economic implications, and more and more often they feature public
disagreements among scientific, technical or medical experts. Whether the confrontation occurs over
the control of AIDS, about the proposed introduction of the abortion pill, about whether vaccines
causes autism, over the location of an airport, or over the implications of the greenhouse effect,
experts become involved. Disputes between experts provoke major difficulties for decision making
and policy implementation in the case of such public confrontations, which, more often than not, are
vociferous, protracted, rancorous and unresolved (). Disputes between experts provoke major

It Doesn t Matter Where You Came From, But It Matters Where You re Going. Unknown. This quote
stuck out like a sore thumb because of how it reminded me of myself, But also this essay. I interpreted
this quote as, your culture doesn t have to form the way you re gonna be in life. Culture is something
that defines who we are, and what we ve came from. But does culture always have a say in what you
do in your life? I believe that culture sometimes influences someone views on others and the world. In
Pico Iyer s travel essay Where worlds Collide immigrants view their experiences as positive because
of information given to them by relatives. As the immigrants disembark from their flight, they step
into the Promised Land, (63). Even though the immigrants may be confused by LAX, they re still

Mexico, I ve always felt great coming back to America. In a sense I can connect with the
immigrants, but very vaguely. The immigrants based on their backgrounds and expectations view
America as a positive place. Parents sometimes influence their children s views of others and the

The Theme Of The Taming Of The Shrew By William Shakespeare
Love and friendship, sadness and pain, birth and death all are proven to be constants throughout
history. Even as centuries go by and cultures evolve or diminish, there will be concepts that never die
out; ideas that are everlasting in time. One, who proved this, is William Shakespeare. His pieces were
first created in the late 1500s; nonetheless, his writing is still relevant even today, almost 5 centuries
later. In Greenway s school play, the setting was moved to the 1970s, yet the play s aroma withstood
the changes. Therefore, changing the context of one of his plays, such as The Taming of the Shrew,
minimally effects the appeals which can be seen through the consistency of the audience, his unfading
persona, and universal message. Changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One message of the play is that love is an addiction. In the original play set in the 16th century,
various individuals seek love from another; the same is true in Greenway s adaptation. In both, the
characters fantasize and attempt the most ridiculous ways to steal the heart of their true love .
Although the adaptation is set centuries later, it stays true to the message by incorporating these
fanatics which allows the message to live on. Shakespeare developed his plays in a way that could be
recreated for centuries; he made his ideas to be relevant for the present and the future. Thus, if the
message was no longer present in Greenway s play, then the entire play would have to be different. In
that case, it is not a Shakespeare play if the drama is gone: it s just a boring play. Then again, one
could see how the message is slightly altered. Love during the 1500s differs from love in the 1970s
due to arranged marriages being popular in the past. In the 1500 1600s, love could often referred to
marriage, but in the 1970s love meant to have a deep affection for another. With all considered, the
message is altered due to the understanding of love from the different time periods. Still, the message
stays relatively close. In all, the message stays true to its roots despite the context

The Soviet Leader Vladimir Lenin And The New Millennium Essay
Introduction: One step forwards, two steps back. This was the mantra of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin
as he consolidated power during the 2nd Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in
1903 (Lenin 1941). In the statement, Lenin illustrates the idea that every attempt or step towards
progress only succeeded in creating new challenges, new problems, out from the woodworks. Sixteen
years into the 21st Century, this catchphrase seems to be the running theme, or perhaps joke, of the
new millennium. The internet has connected all of humanity in ways that have never before been seen
throughout the history of mankind, yet it also opened the door for cyber terrorism, illegal surveillance,
and the efficient propagation of dangerous hateful ideologies. Progress in the field of medicine races
forwards at the speed of light, but pharmaceutical companies are greedy. They hold onto their patents
with vice grips and raise prices of essential medications while they cost only pennies to produce.
Progress is like Pandora s box in that it proliferates the spread of evil, greed, and corruption, while the
fragile hope that remains in the jar continues the human race in its attempts to move forward. We tell
ourselves, Maybe we ll get it right this time. This time we ll learn for our predecessors mistakes. Very
rarely do these hopes materialize. Politics, especially politics, have not escaped this one step forwards,
two steps back mantra. Laws have been put into place to protect

The Development Of The Psyche
As a child, people are in the most delicate phase of life. They are a freshly budded lily, absorbing all
the light, moisture, and nutrients possible in order to bloom into an adult. These essential fertilizers
predominantly come from their parents, who nurture them into the person they will become. This unit
commonly consists of a mother and father. The mother a symbol of intimacy and maternal comfort,
and the father a symbol of strength and stature. The balance of this yin and yang is extremely
important for the development of the psyche. Having a fatherless childhood or a childhood with a
degenerate father is common in today s society. The effects of not having a father figure ripple through
childhood and lay roots in the subconscious. There are two types of a fatherless childhood. Some grow
up without a father in their life entirely, without any knowledge of who he may have been. Others
grow up with a father in their life that does more destructive impact than constructive impact. Some
may say that a destructive parent is still a parent to their child, but arguably a parent without
constructive development to their spawn is not a parent at all. This hollow in a child s life leaves a
space for destructive energy to breed. Many challenges adults face within themselves reflect back into
their childhood. The subconscious is the seed left over from the lily s bloom, which died along with
childhood innocence. The fight to gain back said innocence is the ultimate struggle.

While there were many benefits of French control, the negatives made a lasting effect.
Without the intervention of the French, Cambodia could have become integrated into another South

Waltham Motors Division
Question 1: Using budget data, how many motors would have to be sold for Waltham Motors Division
to breakeven?
In order to calculate the breakeven point, we use the following equation and budget data:
Breakeven Sales*Unit Price Unit Variable Cost= Fixed Costs
Breakeven=Fixed CostsUnitary Price Unitary Variable Cost
Breakeven point=260,000864000/18000 512800/18000=13,226 units
Q2. Using budget data, what was the total expected cost per unit if all manufacturing and shipping
overhead (both variable and fixed) was allocated to planned production? What was the actual per unit
cost of production and shipping?
The results for the total expected cost/unit with budget data is:

There are many reasons that might cause this inefficiency coming from the production manager or the
purchase manager, such as bad quality of the raw materials bought (which were cheaper after all), or
waste of these during the production process.
* Direct Labour variance: Unfavourable by $22.000. Again, we need to find out whether this is Price
and/or efficiency driven. We know that according to the accountant information, the actual price is
$16,4/unit while the Standard price is $16/unit. On the other hand, the Standard Quantity is 14.000
units while the actual Quantity is 246.000/16,4=15.000 units. Therefore:
* Price Variance = 240.000 246.000 = $6000 Unfavourable. This reflects the increase in medical
benefits noted by the accountant. * Efficiency Variance = 224.000 240.000 = $16.000 Unfavourable.
The accountant does not mention anything that can tell for sure the reasons for this lack of efficiency,
so we can only guess some reasons such as a change in the labour force to an unskilled one.
* Idle Time and Cleanup Time: Unfavourable by $3.000 + $1.600 respectively, might be due to
different reasons such as low efficiency in the cleanup process, or bad shape of the machines used to
manufacture the motors that turned into a lot of idle time compared to the one budgeted. The idle time
must be monitored since it can lead to further decrease of Labour

Yorktown Case Analysis Essays
Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS
Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis
Case Recap
Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish
industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago.
Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized
nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies commercializes a genetically modified fish
called GloFish, which appear to glow in the dark (Mueller, 2010). GloFish are zebrafish that have
been genetically modified with fluorescent colors. They are the first genetically modified animals to
become publicly available as pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fish are not available in California due to state regulations that ban biotech aquatic organisms
(GloFish, 2011). In addition, Singapore where the fish was originally engineered has been reluctant to
approve its sale (Ely, 2004). This places an additional limit on potential marketing and distribution
strategies.
Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically
modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three
colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011).
Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial
number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the
production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval of
Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). This gives the company a monopoly on fluorescent fish and
makes it impossible for other companies to produce, market, and distribute them.
Identifying the Root Problem Components
Yorktown Technologies have several issues that may affect marketing and distribution. The issues are
geographical distribution, production, supply and demand, environmental concerns, and retail outlets.
First, GloFish are not approved for distribution and sale in California. California is an

Breastfeeding Vs Bottle Feeding Essay
Mothers around the world have a common goal, to give their babies the best of everything. All
mothers want their babies to have the best chances at life to thrive and survive. When a new mother
has had her baby, the next question usually is will you breastfeed or bottle feed your baby? For some,
that might be a very easy decision and for others it will be a complicated issue as it s a decision that
has to be made early. For mothers in Africa, the choice is particularly hard, especially if they have
AIDS. These mothers risk much more than most moms to give their babies the best chance of survival.
Information is not easy to come by to educate these women in their choices. Infection can still be
passed on, antibiotics have to be given and food is still scarce but formula is so expensive that it often
cannot be considered because money is not available for that big of a purchase. Breastfeeding is the
best tool a mother can give a baby.
Breastfeeding is the most natural inclination a baby is born with. They are born knowing it is what
they need. That does not always mean it is the easiest thing to learn between mother and baby as they
both have to find a way that works for them. Hardwiring is a term that neuroscientists use to refer to

food and water shortage in Africa, breastfeeding the baby for as long as a mother can, allows the baby
to still receive nutrients and antibodies from the mother to help them fight off diseases that plague
children. Children face malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, measles, and pneumonia and the longer the
mother can breastfeed the better chances her baby has to build up their immune

Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop...
Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says:
In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him.
The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with
surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R.
Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and
leisurely gentleman (Anderson).
Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem.
Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop
doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her
point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot
recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death
stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem
as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for
our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23
24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity.
This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t
stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end.
Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief
pause on the journey toward Eternity.
Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. According to
the Handbook of Literary Terms, Personification

Hinduism And Confucianism Similarities
Matt, I do agree that there are similarities between Hinduism and Confucianism; however, despite
both societies, placing a premium hierarchy and authoritarianism, their internal motivations and
ethical paradigms are widely divergent. I am going to incorporate the input you provided on my
original thread regarding this topic as well. I tend to recycle my rhetoric so bear with me.
In Hinduism, law as a matter of religious prescriptions and philosophical discourse has an illustrious
history in India. Emanating from the Vedas, the Upanishads and other religious texts, it was a fertile
field enriched by practitioners from different Hindu philosophical schools and late by Jain s and
Buddhists. Bar Council of India, History of Hindu Law in India ... Show more content on

Xin Ren, Tradition of the Law and Law of the Tradition: Law, State, and Social Control in China 19
(1997). Although both of them exerted a deep influence on China s state building as well as on its
moral and legal traditions, at the beginning, these two philosophies were bitterly opposed to each
other, as they were based on entirely different principles. Id. Despite their differences, Legalism and
Confucianism both endorsed the concept of the absolute monarchy. Id. China s current has a legal
system reflecting some aspects of contemporary civil and common law as practiced in the Western
legal traditions; however, China s legal system has often been based on Confucian philosophy, which

criminal sanctions. Percy R. Luney, Jr., Traditions and Foreign Influences: Systems of Law in China

In conclusion, the difference between Confucianism and Hinduism can be observed in their differing
worldview despite some overlap in social conventions. Hinduism s focus is on mystical objectives (not
to be confused with the law of India), as it dismisses reality as we understand it as illusionary.
Confucianism s focus is squarely on this world, and its chief emphasis is social and political

The Effect Of Workaholism On A Couple s Marriage And...
Workaholism, according to Wikipedia can be described as an addiction to work and is not same as
working hard (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workaholic). Numerous studies have been conducted
determining the effect of workaholism on a couple s marriage, and their marital status. These studies
have revealed that there is a direct correlation between negative effects of work stress on either spouse
and their marital estrangement over a course of time due to loss of intimacy, commitment and
belonging of the work stressed partner to their spouse. Workaholism continues to be the driving force
for pragmatic decision making, mental health problems, anxiety and even severe depression amongst

These respondents assessed their current spouse s work habits using WART, rated their current
marriage in terms of emotional closeness using Marital Disaffection Scale, and recorded positive
affects toward their spouse if any using the Positive Feelings Questionnaire. These respondents were
also asked to perform a Nowicki Strickland locus of Control Scale on themselves. All these scales,
questionnaires and Wart were contained inside the instrument packet provided to them in the mail.
This study empirically investigated the marital relationships of spouses of workaholics. The findings
were drawn for conclusions and their clinical implications were presented (Robinson et al., 2010)
The results of this study supported a prior hypothesis made that revealed a statistically large difference
between spouses of workaholics and nonworkaholics. This difference was significantly large and the
spouse s struggle and trauma in putting up with their workaholics partner spoke louder than any
questionnaire or study could ever speak. The results indicated egotism, domestic physical violence,
abuse, and infidelity that is becoming a shocking reality for many victimized spouses. The partners get
so consumed and sucked up in their performance that they don t even realize when their work starts
taking place of their spouse and their family (Robinson et al., 2010) (Psychology Today).

John Singer Sargent Research Paper
John Singer Sargent, an American artist, is regarded as the greatest portrait painter of the early 1900 s.
Sargent, like many prominent artists, was exposed to art at a young age. He was encouraged by both
parents, who were artist themselves, to draw. This led to his acceptance into École des Beaux Art
School at the age of eighteen. There he was able to study under great artists of that time and his new
found love for portraits birthed his career. Sargent paintings often broke the traditional sense of
portraiture. They clearly have the influence of photography. Scenes seemed to be cropped, such as the

Leadership and People
Promoting Servant Leadership in the Youth
Defining Leading and Leadership
Leading is defined as:
1. Influencing others to take action toward specific goal.
2. Guiding and directing on a course, and as serving as a channel. A leader is someone who has
commanding influence.
Leadership is defined as:
1. It is the process of influencing and directing activities of members toward goal accomplishment.
2. It is about ordinary people who care. People who care enough to get extra ordinary things done.
3. It is the capacity and will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which
inspire confidence.

And he is generous with his praise of my work I guess, because this reflects well on his leadership in
the eyes of outsiders. But at the same time and probably for the same reason, he comes down hard
when we make mistakes or he feels that we have let him down. I sometimes resent being so
uninvolved and feeling so unimportant. I would like to speak out and even disagree with the leader for
he is not right all the time, but I m not sure how this would go over with the others in the group. While
we spend a lot of time talking about the boss and his ways outside meetings, we tend to turn into
lambs when he is around. I guess it is because we would not like to hurt and upset him. So things keep
going on in the usual way.
2. Democratic or Participative Style
Characteristics of democratic leaders can be summed up in the following:
They are generally as concerned with maintaining group effectiveness as with completing the task to
be done.
They encourage members in their groups to express their ideas and feelings, because they believe that
such a climate leads to greater creativity and commitment.
If they encounter resistance or conflicts, they allow them to surface and they seek the help of their
groups in removing the resistance or resolving the conflicts.
They encourage joint decision making as well as shared goal setting.
They rarely set policies without explaining the reasons and proposing them to

Anita Desai, A Modern Indo English Writer Essay
INTRODUCTION
Anita Desai, a noteworthy woman novelist, is a modern Indo English writer, widely acclaimed not
only in India but also in the world of fiction writing. She emerged after independence, deliberating on
the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the society and the
position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The novels of Anita
Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the women, bounded by the
shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family problems, which perhaps is the
chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their family. Literature for her is not a means
of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She prefers the private to the public world and
avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and physical world. In fact, her real concern is the
thorough investigation of human psyche, inner climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life
of her characters. Her main engagement is to study human existence and human predicament, her
exploration being a quest for self. Anita s main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her
protagonists at some crucial juncture of their lives.
The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. In
Desai s novels, the love encounters explode into marital disputes as the result of devastating post

how people are treated and how the medical industry and the government do not care fully enough on
these issues. Both characters put the thought of death into their stream of conscious. Unfortunately,
Septimus choose the suicidal route. So, what s the difference then? Society played a huge role on both
Septimus and Clarissa s decision in their life. The government and their society put little to no

Septimus s is viewed in society as a man who suffers from trauma from the war versus Clarissa, who
is described and an elegant woman that loves lavish parties and hanging around her friends. Having
both of the characters, Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Smith, Virginia Wolfe presents how two
different sides of society, the upper class and the middle class, can have and face very similar
pressures. Each scene describing their outlooks from within Virginia s eyes show a very similar effect
on the people who dwell within themselves.
Woolf says that Septimus is a spitting image of Clarissa as both share the same feelings about their
history with the medical industry. The both share a dark side that cast out to the reader their
personality from within. Even though Clarissa showed many similar qualities in regards to Septimus,
she decided upon herself to live as she has things to take care of in her life. Like Septimus, Clarissa
too suffers from the war. Even though they were both emotionally beaten to the bone, Clarissa decided
to stay where she s at while Septimus chose another route.
In the book Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf wanted to cast the social system and bash it for how it
worked. Her intricate focus is focusing not on the people, but on the morals of a certain class at a
certain historical moment.

INTRODUCTION:
John Rawls developed a conception of justice as fairness in his classic work A Theory of Justice.
Using elements of both Kantian and utilitarian philosophy, he has described a method for the moral
evaluation of social and political institutions.
He proposes to revise few concepts of social contract developed by writers like John Locke, Jean

It is designed to be a fair and impartial position where fundamental principles of justice are decided in
unbiased manner. In taking up this point of view, we have to imagine ourselves as free and equal

are deprived of all knowledge of their personal characteristics and social and historical circumstances.
They are unaware of their personal interests and inclinations, along with general facts about
psychology, economics, biology, and of various social sciences. The parties in the original position are

Equiano felt the Christian God s omnipresent power in times of oppression and in times of success.
Thus, his narrative is akin to the typical Christian journey of finding salvation through trials and

My Favorite Teacher
Green has never been my favorite color, especially if it is someone s last name. Why can it be blue or

Green, and my very first thought was very depressing. I said to myself, this is going to be a long,

First, Mrs. Green was the strict teacher I ever encountered, but yet she was the most comprehensible
teacher. The Spanish literature was not easy and yet she would assign us these huge short stories like,
El Sur, by Jorge Luis Borges, or these really complicated poems like, Hombres Necios que Acusais,

because this was very hard Spanish words, so everyone mumbled with their sweaty palms trying to

The Impact Of Colonization On The Indigenous People Of...
In regions of colonization, a significant issue that emerges in the native community is a disruption of
identity resulting from an influx of colonial European ideals. As a result of colonization, the native
identity is subjected to threats of marginalization by the invasion and domination of European cultural
practices and language. The detrimental impact of colonization on the indigenous people of Rhodesia
in Nervous Conditions is illustrated by the dominance of the British Empires colonial European
identity, which is perpetuated by the conception that Englishness will civilize the population. In Tsitsi
Dangarembga s Nervous Conditions, the natives of Rhodesia, Tambu and Nyasha, illustrate a hybrid
identity crisis as a result of imperial oppression over the language and educational system of the
nation. The role of English language and culture, imposed by colonial education, emphasizes the
movement for natives to abandon their indigenous cultural and linguistic roots. The mental
colonization of the colonized by the means of English language, education, and European cultural
values results in a state of displacement, alienation, and identity confusion in the individual. In the
novel, Dangarembga depicts the victimization of the Shona language through the educated characters
eagerness to adopt and imitate the practices of the English. The imposition of a new language on the
native community is used as a medium through which the hierarchal structure of power is

them with positive reinforcement to change their lives for the better; while restructuring the way some

Many of the petty crimes and minor violations are therefore, reduced because the need to commit
those crimes on a financial basis is no longer there if the inmate can find a job. If the prisoner has also

their time . Some inmates, upon their release, make similar mistakes and commit crimes; with an
educated prison populous, this potentially becomes eliminated for most inmates. With a decrease in
crimes, the prison population decreases, as does the cost to house them in prisons. The increased
revenue is then used in educating first time offenders, thus reducing the risk of them becoming repeat

Creating positive influences on our prisoners can reap many more benefits than just educating and
releasing back into society. Just as we invest money to educate our children, we can reinvest money to
target populations that our prisoners come from to prevent crimes. When we teach them new skills
that can better their lives, they can then teach others by example. Once an inmate enters back into
society and gets a job in his or her field, stays away from crime, and makes better choices, they can
make a positive impact on their communities. Younger generations can see the encouraging example
set forth and know that they too can make wiser decisions and hope for the

How Did The American Government Affect South Korea
After the Japanese invasion, Korea had been swept into turmoil, which lead to the division of the
country into two separate states. In the North the Democratic People s Republic of Korea, (D.P.R.K.)
and in the South the Republic of Korea, (R.O.K.). The United States presence in South Korea would
remain until an independent and unified Korean government was established successfully in the
country. Following the impact of the Korean War, South Korea has undergone significant reform,
which has aided in many changes in the cultural, economic, and political growth in the country. In
1945, the Japanese Army surrendered as the Union of Soviet Socialist (USSR) crushed them in battle
and advanced through Korea. When the United States found out they feared the USSR would take
over the Peninsula and had to take action. With the USSR already in the northern region two United
States Army colonels started developing a plan to find a dividing line to separate the country. At this
time, the line meant to be a provisional administrative arrangement and Korea would eventually come
together again under a new government. The USSR backed communism with North Korea and
America favored capitalism in South Korea. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law such as the United States. Now under a

the first female president in South Korean history. (BBC News December 9, 2016) Park Geun Hye job
is at risk due to a growing corruption scandal. Park, whose approval ratings are only four percent is
now facing possible impeachment by South Korea s legislative if she doesn t resign first. Oren Dorell

College Is The Best Year Of Your Life
College is supposed to be some of the best years of your life. My first semester at college did not fit
that description. While attending Bethel University my experience was the opposite. It was there that I
had encountered some of the hardest situations I have ever had to deal with and some of the most
terrible people. When looking for the college I wanted to attend, Bethel seemed like the perfect fit.
The campus was beautiful, it was a Christian university, and they offered me a really good
scholarship. It was within my first week there that I knew it wasn t the place for me. All throughout
high school, I was a people pleaser. I could never say no and I was always doing other people favors.
Now that I look back, I realize that I was often taken advantage of and used, but I didn t know that yet
going into college. I went in to Bethel with the exact same mindset I had in high school. I wanted to
do anything and everything I could to make my roommates, all five of them, like me. I got along with
one of my roommates, Sydney, really great. We had the same interests and were the more social ones
in our room. Our roommates on the other hand, were not. Sydney and I did our best to include them
and help them have a better time in college. We would get lunch with them every day and introduce
them to our friends and other people in our hall. It soon became apparent how strange these other girls
really were.
It started out that whenever I would leave school to go and visit

Is Tribal Identification Is The Most Socially Salient...
Coethinicity argues that tribal identification is the most socially salient identity in Kampala, Uganda.
Based on a series of experiments, the authors of Coethnicity found that homogenous ethnic identity
was crucial to the pursuit of the common good based on the shared ethnic norm of reciprocity.
Contrary to this idea, I will argue that this assumption is empirically questionable and ultimately
unhelpful in the broader quest to understand how ethnicity and politics relate because there are other
factors involved that Coethnicity does not take into account. Before expanding on this idea I will first
offer a deeper account into Coethnicity s findings. Next, I will develop my argument using the ideas of
Burbanker, Bates, and Posner. With these accounts I will demonstrate Coethnicity over simplifies
politics in Africa and there other factors that should be considered like motivation and other external
factors.
Co ethnicty begins by developing the assumption that ethnic diversity provides the explanation for
failures of cooperation from members of different communities. Failures like, failing to launch
initiatives to fight crime, collect garbage, and maintain drainage channels in the Mulago Kyebando
ethnically diverse communities. The book takes this idea as given and then goes forth to explain that
Coethnics are more likely to cooperate as demonstrated through a variety of experimental games, such
as the prisoner s dilemma, in Kampala, Uganda (19). Ultimately their results

Anti Vietnam War Song Woodstock Essay
The song Anti Vietnam War Song Woodstock tells how America needs more soldiers to fight a war
that s nowhere near American soil for a reason that is not well known to the american soldier. Country
Joe is basically saying that the soldiers do not know what they are fighting for and frankly don t give a
damn, all they know is that they have been drafted for a war they do not approve of. Many people of
this time made protest songs against the war and some of the songs leave more to the imagination than
other songs such as the Anti Vietnam War song.
The largest Anti Vietnam conference was held on November 15, 1969, and was hosted by the Vietnam
Moratorium. This convention is believed to be the biggest anti war conference ever in american
history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article relates to the song, The House of the Rising Sun , because Eisenhower s position on the
war was that he recommended going to war because no one stopped the rise of Hitler and Mussolini
causing a tragic future. The containment of communism is needed now rather than letting it spread
further, making it harder to get rid of in the future.
The song Handsome Johnny , written by Richie Havens, shows the evolution of war in his song. Each
war the weapon that Handsome Johnny used got more sophisticated and more efficient at killing. This
is a powerful song because people will fight for what they believe in and will even fight for what they
do not know. Handsome Johnny are the soldiers of America, fighting from the civil war, all the way up
to the korean war.
During the 1960 s was when the Anti War movements were most common. There were over hundred
of organizations all fighting for the same thing; Peace. People would write speeches, people would
strike, many people would listen to Anti War music. Many artist in the 1960 s would release songs
stating their opinions about the Vietnam war, and most of the artist would be against war and promote
peace and

Pros And Cons Of The Removal Of Confederate Statues
The Removal of the Confederate Statues On August 12, 2017, a white nationalist rally in
Charlottesville, VA turned into a violent and brought renewed attention to dozens of Confederate
monuments from around the country. The removal of the confederate statues has its pros and cons as
to why they should take them down. My opinion to this debate is that they shouldn t take the statues
down. There are three reasons why I would not want them removed. The first is that what we should
see in the statues is a ghost, a remainder from the past that nobody could banish. It is important to
remember that we live in a country built by strife and bloodshed, as well as hope and posterity. The
statues are to remember they existed, remember their mistakes and accomplishments and learn from
them to not have to remember that detestable past with some of them when they were alive. Another
reason to not remove them is because people that grow up throughout the years should have the
opportunity to learn about what happened years ago so they could have an idea of how people treated
each other and how equality wasn t the same back then. The last reason is to prevent more fights than
there are already. Remembering forces us to become wiser. Remembering and getting to know history
is one of the most important things that people should get to learn about by the simple fact to get to
know the world and how throughout the years its become better and worse in a few ways. The reason
why we should all

Ok Computer Thom Yorke Analysis
Ok Computer, an album that is considered the last great rock album of the 20th century, has never
stopped expressing its clear message. Most critics have all come to the same conclusion when
discussing the meaning and message of this album. The album touches on the personal experiences of
the writer and the problems of society at the time. Thom Yorke, songwriter, expresses his dislike for
all the fast paced controlled city life with the songs Fitter Happier, Let Down, and Electioneering.
Thom Yorke also reveals his personal issues and experiences with the songs Paranoid Android and
Karma Police. This album shows how Yorke handles his personal life with the dislike for big city life
with the songs Fitter Happier, Let Down, Electioneering, Paranoid Android and Karma Police. The
first song supporting Yorke s disgust towards big society is Fitter Happier. The song is a list made up
of the things one must do in life to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yorke describes all of the hectic traffic as starting and then stopping, taking off and landing. All of the
disappointed people who hold the emptiest of feelings can be seen in this picture. Thom Yorke is being
let down by this crazy society he lives in. The big city life does not impress him and never will. The
song Electioneering gives a look at how little power people have and how everything is controlled in
almost every aspect of the big city life. Yorke gives warning to say the right things when
electioneering as if it matters what anyone says. The government is just business and Yorke says that
he can rely on your vote which does not matter with all of the voodoo economics that decides the
outcome. The government will not stop to get what they want and they will blatantly lie for the vote
they desperately need. Yorke clearly explains that the government will do anything to sway the public
opinion in their

  • 2. Role Of Women In Sundiata When it comes to the places and roles of women in Sundiata and in Malian society as depicted in the book Sundiata, women are held in a place very much unattached and unequal to men. Their roles, throughout the book, are defined only in relationship to men who hold higher positions of authority and often control the women with whom they are in relations with. Basically, the book takes place in a sort of patriarchal society while allowing women very few rights and powers. Like I had said before, they essentially view the women as their relations and not very much anything else. In this society women are also excluded from official positions of power. To begin with, the epic in fact is related by a man, and there is not one indication of any woman griots anywhere within the novel. Right after a recitation of the kings of Mali leading up to Maghan Kon Fatta (Sundiata s father), a female character is mentioned for the first time: Oh that woman! She is ugly, she is hideous, and she bares on her back a disfiguring hump. Her monstrous eyes seem to have been merely laid on her face, but, mystery of mysteries, this is the woman you must marry, sire, for she will be the mother of him who will make the name of Mali immortal forever (Sundiata, 6). Seemingly right after the first female character is introduced, she is picked apart describing her physical appearance, and then to her what would be future roles of wife and mother. Admittedly, the prior is certainly to provide contrast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Undoubtedly, the author of Galatians was Paul and it may have been the earliest of his letters. It s brief, emotional and controversial, and its importance far exceeds its size. Martin Luther, claimed Galatians as my epistle. I am married to it and this letter became the cornerstone of the Protestant Reformation. Paul s letter is addressed to the churches in Galatia (Galatians 1.2) but the location of these churches is a matter of debate. From 1948 to 1991 countless anti communist films were made, dominating the stage of transnational politics and geostrategic affairs between East and West from the beginning to the end of the USSR. The Cold War would impose an atmosphere bursting with tension on the world film production arena. The main tense issues that prevailed included but were not limited to: Communist expansionism, American Imperialism, an arms race including a nuclear menace, the subjugation of space, and the infamous intelligence and counter espionage clash. It is important to note that the skirmishes amongst these main actors the Unites States and The Soviet Union was not only in the domain of defense and economy, but also encompassed ideology and culture. The latter was especially mirrored in the cinema. Dr. Nawaraj justifies his solution by saying that such facilities maximize the autonomy and decision processes of future generations...it would allow for the development of new technologies to deal with the material in better ways than primitive burial (Gudorf and huchingson, p. 110). Government officials had similar thoughts because, facing the objection of the Yucca Mountain site by the state of Nevada in 2009, the federal government decided not to use Yucca Mountain and instead, impose an interim solution of storing all nuclear was in aboveground facilities nearby nuclear power plants (Gudorf and huchingson, p. 114). • 8. Light Pollution Effects of Light Pollution on Ecosystems Intro Over time, human populations have been exponentially increasing. This growth has led to a major increase in demand for resources and space. To achieve their goals, humans have caused major changes in the surrounding ecosystems in many ways. First, they have cleared many areas thriving with organisms to build roads and cities destroying different ecosystems. Second, they have overharvested many species for food and resources causing many species to go extinct. Lastly, they have polluted natural habitats in numerous ways declining species biodiversity. Many people are familiar with pollution such as air pollution, trash pollution, and chemical pollution. However, a less apparent type of pollution that is equally important is the pollution of artificial lighting. Over the past hundred plus years artificial lighting has increased in use dramatically. From 1992 to 2013 there has been an increase in light intensity on coastal zones of about 42% (Brei et al. 2016). This increasing use of light has had major impacts on surrounding species on land and in water. Many organisms are nocturnal or depend on light cues to go on through normal daily activities such as foraging, migration, and reproduction. This disruption in schedule has seen to have major impacts on varied species. La Sorte et al. (2017) shows how light pollution affects nocturnal migrating birds. These birds seemed to be attracted to highly lit urban areas disrupting natural behaviors like migration. Perkin et al. (2014) displays how artificial lighting can affect insects and their ability to properly disperse throughout areas. Although light pollution has shown to affect many diverse types of organisms on land, marine organisms have also been affected. Due to the increase in artificial light pollution, the marine environment can have disruptions which lead to trophic cascades, changes in behaviors, and changes in interactions among and between marine species resulting in a loss of biodiversity. If humans keep on the same track they have been, then biodiversity will be lost, so they must think of solutions to combat and reduce the effects artificial light pollution has on biodiversity. Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is right. There are pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives; Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. Over the years, more people have become pro choice because of the many circumstances under which a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro Life and Pro Choice supporters are almost 50/50 in the U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down Planned Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see another physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business shuts down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they are pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no way of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to another doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle/upper class would have less unwanted babies, allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally prepared, while the lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement. ... Trudeau made quick political decisions to handle the calamity, however, the immediate crisis was impacting the cities across Quebec. Relaxed hair make your hair look very thin also you using perms which has chemicals that s not healthy for your hair. Some women think relaxed hair is better than natural. Why is that ? It s because they think when your hair natural it s very unlikeable. Natural hair has all the components to grow healthy, long, and thick hair. Even as centuries go by and cultures evolve or diminish, there will be concepts that never die out; ideas that are everlasting in time. One, who proved this, is William Shakespeare. His pieces were first created in the late 1500s; nonetheless, his writing is still relevant even today, almost 5 centuries later. In Greenway s school play, the setting was moved to the 1970s, yet the play s aroma withstood the changes. Therefore, changing the context of one of his plays, such as The Taming of the Shrew, minimally effects the appeals which can be seen through the consistency of the audience, his unfading persona, and universal message. Changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One message of the play is that love is an addiction. In the original play set in the 16th century, various individuals seek love from another; the same is true in Greenway s adaptation. In both, the characters fantasize and attempt the most ridiculous ways to steal the heart of their true love . Although the adaptation is set centuries later, it stays true to the message by incorporating these fanatics which allows the message to live on. Shakespeare developed his plays in a way that could be recreated for centuries; he made his ideas to be relevant for the present and the future. Thus, if the message was no longer present in Greenway s play, then the entire play would have to be different. In that case, it is not a Shakespeare play if the drama is gone: it s just a boring play. Then again, one could see how the message is slightly altered. • 19. The Development Of The Psyche As a child, people are in the most delicate phase of life. They are a freshly budded lily, absorbing all the light, moisture, and nutrients possible in order to bloom into an adult. These essential fertilizers predominantly come from their parents, who nurture them into the person they will become. This unit commonly consists of a mother and father. The mother a symbol of intimacy and maternal comfort, and the father a symbol of strength and stature. The balance of this yin and yang is extremely important for the development of the psyche. Having a fatherless childhood or a childhood with a degenerate father is common in today s society. The effects of not having a father figure ripple through childhood and lay roots in the subconscious. There are two types of a fatherless childhood. Some grow up without a father in their life entirely, without any knowledge of who he may have been. Others grow up with a father in their life that does more destructive impact than constructive impact. Some may say that a destructive parent is still a parent to their child, but arguably a parent without constructive development to their spawn is not a parent at all. This hollow in a child s life leaves a space for destructive energy to breed. Many challenges adults face within themselves reflect back into their childhood. The subconscious is the seed left over from the lily s bloom, which died along with childhood innocence. The fight to gain back said innocence is the ultimate struggle. ... Yorktown Case Analysis Essays Running Head: YORKTOWN TECHNOLOGIES CASE ANALYSIS Yorktown Technologies Case Analysis Case Recap Founded in 2001, Yorktown Technologies, Inc. is a company that specializes in the ornamental fish industry. The globalization of the ornamental fish industry happened over a half a century ago. Hundreds of freshwater and saltwater fish can be purchased as pets in virtually any industrialized nation in the world (Broy, 2011). Yorktown Technologies will launch the first commercially available fish that has been genetically modified. They will be available in the United States in late 2003. They will be available in three colors: red, green, and orange (GloFish, 2011). Yorktown Technologies has an exclusive product and market niche. The company has a substantial number of patents and patent pending applications for GloFish (GloFish, 2011). In addition, the production, market, and distribution of fluorescent fish are strictly prohibited without the approval of Yorktown Technologies (GloFish, 2011). • 23. Breastfeeding Vs Bottle Feeding Essay Mothers around the world have a common goal, to give their babies the best of everything. All mothers want their babies to have the best chances at life to thrive and survive. When a new mother has had her baby, the next question usually is will you breastfeed or bottle feed your baby? For some, that might be a very easy decision and for others it will be a complicated issue as it s a decision that has to be made early. For mothers in Africa, the choice is particularly hard, especially if they have AIDS. These mothers risk much more than most moms to give their babies the best chance of survival. Information is not easy to come by to educate these women in their choices. Infection can still be passed on, antibiotics have to be given and food is still scarce but formula is so expensive that it often cannot be considered because money is not available for that big of a purchase. Breastfeeding is the best tool a mother can give a baby. Breastfeeding is the most natural inclination a baby is born with. They are born knowing it is what they need. That does not always mean it is the easiest thing to learn between mother and baby as they both have to find a way that works for them. Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says: In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him. The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R. Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and leisurely gentleman (Anderson). Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem. Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey toward Eternity. Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. In Hinduism, law as a matter of religious prescriptions and philosophical discourse has an illustrious history in India. She emerged after independence, deliberating on the highly debatable contemporary issues. Anita Desai is a keen observer of the society and the position of the women in the contemporary society draws her special attention. The novels of Anita Desai are noted for the profound probing into the inner life and feelings of the women, bounded by the shackles of the middle class. They are the explorations of the family problems, which perhaps is the chief cause behind the estrangement of the women from their family. Literature for her is not a means of escaping reality but an exploration and an inquiry. She prefers the private to the public world and avoids the traditional grooves of external reality and physical world. In fact, her real concern is the thorough investigation of human psyche, inner climate, and she unravels the mystery of the inner life of her characters. Her main engagement is to study human existence and human predicament, her exploration being a quest for self. Anita s main focus, in this way, is to depict the psychic states of her protagonists at some crucial juncture of their lives. The uniqueness of Anita Desai s fiction, however, lies in her exploration of feminine sensibility. While attending Bethel University my experience was the opposite. It was there that I had encountered some of the hardest situations I have ever had to deal with and some of the most terrible people. When looking for the college I wanted to attend, Bethel seemed like the perfect fit. The campus was beautiful, it was a Christian university, and they offered me a really good scholarship. It was within my first week there that I knew it wasn t the place for me. All throughout high school, I was a people pleaser. I could never say no and I was always doing other people favors. Now that I look back, I realize that I was often taken advantage of and used, but I didn t know that yet going into college. I went in to Bethel with the exact same mindset I had in high school. I wanted to do anything and everything I could to make my roommates, all five of them, like me. I got along with one of my roommates, Sydney, really great. We had the same interests and were the more social ones in our room. Our roommates on the other hand, were not. Sydney and I did our best to include them and help them have a better time in college. We would get lunch with them every day and introduce them to our friends and other people in our hall. It soon became apparent how strange these other girls really were. It started out that whenever I would leave school to go and visit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Is Tribal Identification Is The Most Socially Salient... Coethinicity argues that tribal identification is the most socially salient identity in Kampala, Uganda. Based on a series of experiments, the authors of Coethnicity found that homogenous ethnic identity was crucial to the pursuit of the common good based on the shared ethnic norm of reciprocity. Contrary to this idea, I will argue that this assumption is empirically questionable and ultimately unhelpful in the broader quest to understand how ethnicity and politics relate because there are other factors involved that Coethnicity does not take into account. Before expanding on this idea I will first offer a deeper account into Coethnicity s findings. Next, I will develop my argument using the ideas of Burbanker, Bates, and Posner. With these accounts I will demonstrate Coethnicity over simplifies politics in Africa and there other factors that should be considered like motivation and other external factors. Co ethnicty begins by developing the assumption that ethnic diversity provides the explanation for failures of cooperation from members of different communities. Failures like, failing to launch initiatives to fight crime, collect garbage, and maintain drainage channels in the Mulago Kyebando ethnically diverse communities. The book takes this idea as given and then goes forth to explain that Coethnics are more likely to cooperate as demonstrated through a variety of experimental games, such as the prisoner s dilemma, in Kampala, Uganda (19). Ultimately their results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Anti Vietnam War Song Woodstock Essay The song Anti Vietnam War Song Woodstock tells how America needs more soldiers to fight a war that s nowhere near American soil for a reason that is not well known to the american soldier. Country Joe is basically saying that the soldiers do not know what they are fighting for and frankly don t give a damn, all they know is that they have been drafted for a war they do not approve of. Many people of this time made protest songs against the war and some of the songs leave more to the imagination than other songs such as the Anti Vietnam War song. The largest Anti Vietnam conference was held on November 15, 1969, and was hosted by the Vietnam Moratorium. This convention is believed to be the biggest anti war conference ever in american history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article relates to the song, The House of the Rising Sun , because Eisenhower s position on the war was that he recommended going to war because no one stopped the rise of Hitler and Mussolini causing a tragic future. The containment of communism is needed now rather than letting it spread further, making it harder to get rid of in the future. The song Handsome Johnny , written by Richie Havens, shows the evolution of war in his song. Each war the weapon that Handsome Johnny used got more sophisticated and more efficient at killing. This is a powerful song because people will fight for what they believe in and will even fight for what they do not know. Handsome Johnny are the soldiers of America, fighting from the civil war, all the way up to the korean war. During the 1960 s was when the Anti War movements were most common. • 47. Pros And Cons Of The Removal Of Confederate Statues The Removal of the Confederate Statues On August 12, 2017, a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA turned into a violent and brought renewed attention to dozens of Confederate monuments from around the country. The removal of the confederate statues has its pros and cons as to why they should take them down. My opinion to this debate is that they shouldn t take the statues down. There are three reasons why I would not want them removed. The first is that what we should see in the statues is a ghost, a remainder from the past that nobody could banish. It is important to remember that we live in a country built by strife and bloodshed, as well as hope and posterity. The statues are to remember they existed, remember their mistakes and accomplishments and learn from them to not have to remember that detestable past with some of them when they were alive. Another reason to not remove them is because people that grow up throughout the years should have the opportunity to learn about what happened years ago so they could have an idea of how people treated each other and how equality wasn t the same back then. The last reason is to prevent more fights than there are already. Remembering forces us to become wiser. Remembering and getting to know history is one of the most important things that people should get to learn about by the simple fact to get to know the world and how throughout the years its become better and worse in a few ways. The reason why we should all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
