The Trial Stage Of The Court
If a plea agreement is not reached, then the process moves to the motions phase. During this time, the
defense and prosecution can file pretrial motions to suppress evidence due to faulty police line ups,
coerced confessions, and illegal search and seizures. Once all pretrial motions are filed, the process
moves to the trial stage. The trial stage is where the case, from the prosecution and defense, is
presented to the jury for their deliberation of the verdict.
During the motions stage of the process, discussed about, Mr. Blackbeard s defense will submit
motions regarding the clothing found in the alcove, the rifle, the handbag, canister containing the
quarters, and the bloody towel. The defense will argue that the police did not have a warrant to search
Mr. Blackbeard s sleeping quarters and that he has the right to expect privacy in the area where he was
sleep and kept his belongings. This would be a violation of the Fourth Amendment, which is the right
of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, paper, and effects, against unreasonable search and
seizures, shall not be violated... . The defense will argue that the police did not have consent, nor
probable cause to search the vehicle which resulted in the discovery of Ms. Lovely s purse, canister
containing quarters, and the bloody towel. In response to the rifle, the defense will argue that the
police had no warrant or probable cause to collect the rifle. While the police were at the scene where

Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is a nearly pandemic condition, it has the potential to cause loss of
limb or even loss of life (Stephens E., 2016). Peripheral vascular disease is also known as peripheral
arterial disease, Peripheral artery occlusive disease or Peripheral atherosclerosis (Peripheral vascular
disease, 2015). Peripheral arterial disease is a manifestation of systemic atherosclerosis (Thuy,
Jonathan, Philip,et al., 2013).
The Heart Association of Australia considered PAD as a coronary artery disease (CAD) risk
equivalent, thus screening and treatment is considered important. There are currently no Australian
guidelines recommending routine screening for PVD, although screening should be considered in

Are Diesels Better Than Gasoline Engines
Are diesels better than gasoline engines? A significant segment of the consumer market thinks so,
especially in Europe where such engines compose nearly half the vehicles purchased. In the US,
diesels have had difficulty gaining acceptance, with heavy duty pickup trucks and German luxury cars
offering them. But with Audi currently snagged in the Volkswagen diesel scandal mess, a negative
light has been cast on these engines, with some insisting that they re far dirtier than what
manufacturers say they are. Fortunately, not all manufacturers are being dissuaded by such negativity.

Japan s Economic Efforts After the Earthquake and Tsunami...
Marketing Japan:
Towards a Better Future
In the month of March 2011, Japan was struck hard by a natural disaster. This earthquake was known
as the Great East Japan Earthquake which caused a tsunami (Euromonitor, 2013). Tourism in Japan
was at a standstill for about year until 2012. During the year of 2011, Japanese people did not travel
and people refrained from leisure activities (Euromonitor, 2013). About a year after the earthquake,
tourism grew and there was an increased desire to travel (Euromonitor, 2013). The population of Japan
is 128 million people, with a major city (Tokyo) which is home to 35 million people (Berger, 2010).
According to Berger, Japan is third in the world for money spent on research and development ...

Outcome
There is a need to develop an action plan and apply goals relative to the organization s purpose. Their
action plan was to reach 18 million visitors by 2016 (Euromonitor, 2013). And by 2030 approximately
30 million a year. That a 12 million visitor increase. Japanese government is looking to focus on
opening up tourism markets of Southeast Asian countries (Euromonitor, 2013). The outcome of
inbound visitors is expected to increase by 7% (Euromonitor, 2013). With the relaxed visa
requirements, there has been a fast growth of tourists to Japan in 2012. The highest number of inbound
arrivals were from Thailand and increased 77% with 257,000 trips (Euromonitor, 2013). Under the
campaign there were promotions such as TV shows in Indonesia focusing on Japanese culture.
Target Market
The target market of Japan is the visitors from the Southeast Asia region. The Southeast Asia region
includes Thai, Malaysian, and Indonesia. By targeting these visitors, it is a new hope for promising
markets for Japan s tourism industry . Japan should also target the increased retiree population. In
Japan the senior citizens have a passion for travelling. Japan s travel companies have accommodated
this target market. With the new demographic changing, there is a need for operators to take a grasp on
accommodating this target market (Euromonitor, 2013).

Babbage was so fascinated with designing his analytical engine that he never built one. One design
would suggest an improvement, then another, and another because he could never stop short of
perfection. Shortly before his death in 1871 he wrote: If I survive some few years longer, the
Analytical Engine will exist, and its works will afterwards be spread over the world. For more than a
century his work would lie dormant, waiting other times and other people to advance his seminal
ideas.
One of the few bright spots in Babbage s life was his friendship with Augusta Ada (1816 1852),
countess of Lovelace and daughter of the poet Lord Byron. The countess had a gift for mathematics
and engineering and was one of the few who really understood Babbage s work. She wrote treatises on

people against becoming dependent on the computer, which has no pretentions [sic] whatever to

The Two Methods Of Surface Mining And Underground Mining
Introduction
Mining is what people use to extract minerals and ores, there are two methods that you can use that is
surface mining and underground mining.
What is underground mining/surface mining?
Underground mining is what people use to extract hard minerals from underground some of those are
Gold, Copper, Iron, Metal and Zinc, and many more minerals found underground. The two methods
used for underground mining is cut and fill and room and pillar. Cut and fill is when the material
extracted from underground is then used to fill another space. Room and pillar is when the ore is
extracted in a horizontal line. There are two phases to extracting a mineral using the room and pillar
method. Surface mining is when you find minerals either above the surface or on the surface in soil
etc. The two most popular ways to do surface mining is open pit mining and strip mining. Open pit
mining is when you extract rocks from the earth s surface in open pits, the minerals found using open
pit mining are Ores, copper and aluminium. Strip mining is when you get rid of soil and rocks above a
layer of coal normally and you then extract the mineral, coal is the only mineral normally extracted
using the strip mining method. Mining can be very dangerous and have been many accidents in the
past, if you are mining you are told to wear a helmet, gloves, protective shoes, padding and eye
protection.

A Slave During The Slave Trade
In the course of humanity, there have been times in which people will look upon one another with
nothing but disgust and indifference. While it is becoming less of a situation as time progresses and
ideals change, there was much controversy back when trading one another was legal. Abraham
Lincoln once said in his novel entitled Complete Works Volume XII, Those who deny freedom to
others, deserve it not for themselves (Chandler). However, the question must be begged: what is
slavery, and how much do people really know about some of the tragic stories that occurred during
that time period? Olaudah Equiano was a slave during the slave trade who wrote an autobiography
about his experiences with said topic. After being enslaved for ten years, he finally could afford to buy
his freedom and become an anti slavery activist. His text explains his trek across oceans in a ship with
awful living conditions. In the text, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, by
Olaudah Equiano, the reader can learn about the conditions aboard the ships, the cruelty of the sailors
and the aftermath of the Atlantic Slave Trade.
To begin, Equiano speaks about the repulsive circumstances he experiences whilst on the ship. Being a
miniscule boat, there should be no way that a surplus of slaves could fit...or it there? The Atlantic
Slave Trade was famous for the awful living conditions the Africans faced while on the boat for as
long as they were. Olaudah explains how, The

Causes Of The Age Of Exploration
The geographical exploration was a period of time when European states began exploring the world.
The European exploration known as the Age of Discovery, or the Age of Exploration began in the
early fifteenth century and extended throughout the late sixteenth century. During this time, European
nations discovered new routes. This led to the discovering of trade from different places outside of
Europe. Europe exploration expanded to places such as the Americas, Africa, and much of the Far
East. Many events occurred because of brave voyagers and conquistadors. This guided many early
explorers such as Vasco de Gama and Christopher Columbus to look for new trade routes. Trade
became an important part of the economy. When it started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Trading caused businesses to succeed in order to get money. The exploration introduced to the
businesspeople to more money and power. As trade increased, the economy well being of Europe
became more dependent on the economic growth of the colonies. (Brun, #375) In other words, trading
has been more open to the European market which caused businesses to do surprisingly good. Even
though business people in Europe were dependent on America s plantations and invested their money
in sugar and tobacco, large amounts of gold and silver was given to the Europeans by Spain s
Americans colonies. This proves that if the colonies keep on doing a good job with trading, then this
will help the growth of businesses in Europe. The European government was also getting very
powerful just because of how much gold and silver European businesses was receiving. Economic
growth has been impacted from all the trading Europe has done with the Americas. New technological
advancements allowed Europeans to travel farther and explore places they haven t discovered, thanks
to all the money that European business got from all that trading.
Technological advancement and navigation was not the main motive for European exploration.
However, even though it was not the main reason for the exploration, it came second. The explorers
had to navigate using techniques in order to reach their destination. Technological items were useful to
them such as the compass, and astrolabe. Having reliable maps

Recommendations For Persuade Cafe

From: Berlinda Pearson
Date: June 4, 2017
Subject: Business Improvement Program (Recommendations for Persuade Café)
Dear Jacqueline Marcus, my name is Berlinda Pearson; I have been hired to provide new ideas and
new recommendation for your business improvement program. As you know, Persuade Café offers
unpretentious coffee, tea, espresso drinks, bakery items, whole beans, and T shirts. Although these
products have proven to contribute to the success of Persuade Café, there are some must needed
changes that are necessary to compete with its competitors and sustain a competitive advantage. Based
on the survey results from customers, there were a number of 433 responses to an upgrade for bakery
items, décor, faster service, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that improper training is coming from various employees. In
order for the Café to become more successful, my recommendation is that they hire a training team
who will train all employees the same way, to eliminate inconsistency. Since employees are the front
line of the Café, it is important that Persuade Café make training a top priority.
 Installation of Wi Fi Free Wi Fi is becoming a prominent customer expectation, so with that being
said; it will benefit Persuade Café, and will increase the customers time spent on the premises.
Customers will visit more often because they can use their cell phone, tablet, laptop via Wi Fi. Small
businesses, such as Persuade Café might find themselves at a serious competitive disadvantage it they
do not install free Wi Fi.
By implementing these recommendations at Persuade Café, it is my belief that these changes over a
period of time will increase their customer satisfaction, become more inviting and attract new
customers, and increase employee morale. Informing existing customers and future customers of the
upcoming changes should spark some excitement. Implementing changes within a business takes time;
however it is to better serve

Prison Recidivism
Abstract
This paper will demonstrate whether the length of prison stay for an inmate effects recidivism.
Determining whether the prison sentence for an inmate will deter the criminal from any criminal
activity or if they will recidivate is a key component to see if a prison sentence keeps a criminal from
engaging in any criminal activity. The paper will discuss whether the longer the prison sentence will
reduce recidivism or if the minimum of a sentence will have a higher recidivism rate. The research
conducted will help determine whether a prison sentence has any effect on the relapse of criminal
offenders. This research could help a judge determine to give the appropriate prison sentence to a
criminal. The research conducted comes from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Mitchell, Cochran, Mears, Bales, (2016) state that it is abnormal considering that the
incarceration rate in the United States has increased on a yearly annual basis over the past 40 years,
making the United States the leader in incarceration rates. Even though the targets correlated with
imprisonment incorporate incapacitation of active offenders, retribution, and general deterrence, the
reduction of recidivism account for the critical inducement for the rising use of incarceration in the
United States. Research by Mitchell et al. s (2016) article states that classifying and learning the
outlook of prisons increases offending by seen as schools of crime or enable offenders to increase their
tendency to engage in criminal behavior in the future. Learning about the prison system from the
inside gives a greater outlook on the life of a criminal while in prison and their ways of doing things
than being out in the free world.
Mass Incarceration in the United States
Research by Traum (2013) supports the growth of incarceration rates in the United States traces back
to the legal policies that have gone to the increase of the lengths of prison sentences and the
imprisonment. Mitchell et al. (2016) studied the imprisonment rate of the United States in the year of
2012 to be 471 per 100,000 residents; if the ones who are in jail are to be included, then the rate would
increase to 707 per 100,000 residents. According to Mitchell et al. (2016) states that given that the

Should Capital Punishment Be Re-Instated
During my assessment I will be exploring some reasons why I do or do not think Capital Punishment
should be re instated. The definition of Capital Punishment is the death penalty, one can receive this
by committing a Capital Offence. A Capital Offence is a horrific crime as implied by Capital because a
capital could link to the Leader of that country because Capital is usually used to refer to a place of
importance. Some examples of Capital Offences are: Killing, Espionage, Treason, Homicide and Gang
Members.
One reason I believe that Capital Punishment should be bought back is the Biblical quote an eye for an

History of the FBI
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was founded in 1908 when the Attorney General appointed an
anonymous force of 34 Special Agents to be investigators for the Department of Justice. Before that,
the DOJ had to borrow Agents from the U.S. Secret Service. In 1909, the Special Agent Force was
renamed the Bureau of Investigation, and after countless name changes, it became The Federal Bureau
of Investigation in 1935.
When the FBI was established, there weren t an abundance of federal crimes, so it investigated
criminal acts that dealt with national banking, bankruptcy, naturalization, antitrust, peonage, and land

Around this time, Americans feared the invasion of Communism, which triggered the FBI to

The FBI s role in fighting crime grew yet again after the Korean war. On March 14, 1950, the FBI
began its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List to further increase the FBI s capacity to capture
exceptionally dangerous criminals. Many advances in Forensic Sciences helped the FBI to become
even more capable to assist local and state law enforcement agencies to catch criminals. By this time
the number of FBI agents had made a steady climb to about 6,200, and in 1957 the FBI s budget

In the 1960s, civil rights and organized crime became major concerns of the FBI, and
counterterrorism, drugs, financial crime, and violent crimes in the 1970s. During the 60 s, Congress

Against all odds
Despite being severely criticised for more than three decades the Purchasing Power Parity and its

Introduction
Would you believe in the law of gravity if quite often objects that should stay firmly on the ground
were instead flowing weightlessly in the air even though they were not supposed to? Probably not.
However, if physicians were economists they would simply attribute it to a marginal error in their
calculations and still accept it as a valid law. Among the considerable amount of examples the

On the other hand, the relative PPP holds that PPP is not particularly helpful in determining what the
spot rate is today, but that the relative change in prices between two countries over a period of time
determines the change in the exchange rate over that period. More specifically, if the spot exchange
rate between two countries starts in equilibrium, any change in the differential rate of inflation
between them tends to be offset over the long run by an equal but opposite change in the spot
exchange rate.
The commonly agreed statement is that the absolute PPP is less (if at all) useful than the relative one.
Salvatore (2001) argues that the absolute PPP theory cannot be taken too seriously /.../ whenever the
PPP theory is used, it is usually used in its relative formulation . Rogoff (1996) points out that the
biggest problem for not using absolute PPP is the lack of data to conduct viable tests. With very few

Western Society The Five Year Plans Analysis
To consolidate his power in the communist government, Stalin launched the five year plans with a
mission to increase the total industrial output by 250 percent and agricultural production by 150
percent. His government thought that economic development will help U.S.S.R to catch up with the
West. As part of this economic program, he ordered the collectivization of agriculture. His order led to
an economic disaster and shortage of basic necessities as large numbers of peasants opposed to the
change slaughtered their animals and burned the crops rather than turn them over to the state. This
resulted in a severe decrease in agricultural output throughout the years. (A History of Western

Essay On Online Gaming Games
There are especially useful if you intend to play together on a multiplayer game or are using

Last but not least is the PS4 s performance. First, of all, the graphics and FPS. The graphics are
incredible at 1080p and 4k resolution (which describes the dimensions/quality of the graphics)which
makes things look great when playing a game like Destiny where there s a lot to look at. The FPS is
really to, staying between 30 60 FPS the whole time with very little stuttering or lag. The VR headset
also never dips below 60 80 FPS so its users don t get motion sickness. The sounds in games are really

Most of the games are family friendly, so this would be the kind of thing that you would buy if you
had small children, or a big family that wants to play together. Next up: features. The Wii U has a
much smaller amount of space than both the Xbox 1 and the PS4 with 8 GB for the basic and 32GB
for the deluxe, just enough for saving games. If you want to expand, you need an external USB
storage. There also isn t nearly as many features that Xbox and PS4 have which really narrows down
the uses of the Wii U other than playing games. The controllers for it are just Wii remotes and the Wii
U gamepad which can be kind of irritating to use at times, but it also acts as it own display for the
game so you don t have to always have to look at the T.V. There is also a new pro controller which
looks very similar to the Xbox 1 controller, only with some buttons moved in different places. Its
design is much more compact than the PS4 The graphics and performance of the console are pretty
good with many games performing at 1080p and at 60fps, but some dip below that. Overall, it s a
pretty good system in terms of performance and mostly good in games, but it really lacks in some key
areas like variety of games, storage, and it also lacks a bit of

The Color Purple By Margaret Atwood
The Color Purple is a 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg and focuses on the life of Celie, an
African American girl brought up around vigorous abuse. At a young age she is married off to her
Mister and from then serves him, doing anything to meet his needs and pleasure him. She lives this
life of slavery and assault, to one day be reunited with her sister, Nettie, in Africa. A novel in which

When Harpo (her Misters son) asked Celie what should I do about Sophia Celie responded with beat
her . This displayed that Celie thinks her identity is to answer to her Mister and if she doesn t she will
be beat; she doesn t really know her true self and capabilities. Although Celie doesn t really
understand her identity she still has one. In contrast, in The Handmaids Tale most of the characters
aren t even given an identity, they are nameless. No character is represented by their own names, more
part of groups such as Handmaid, Wife or Martha. This shows that in this novel the body of women
and the functions are more important than their minds and identity. Most women were often described
by their features, their eyes and hands , this is to show the audience the lack of identity they hold and
how their psychical features are deemed more important than their mental ability. When one Ofglen is
replaced with another the Handmaid quotes this woman has been my partner for two weeks. I don t
know what happened to the one before . This then shows how disconnected the women are and how
the use of the word partner is used to hide the identity of the person. This also illustrates that the
personality of the women is not essential for the job at hand, as they are just easily replaced with
someone else. The Handmaids Tale and The Color Purple analyse the ways women are destined for
one identity, the identity to serve men and continue to

A Brief Note On Science And The Nineteenth Century
Faith v.s Science
Sunya Hassan
History 10
Faith vs. Science in the Nineteenth Century
Throughout history, the comparison of faith and science have caused debate between our historians.
However, they can agree that the nineteenth century was somewhat of a blurred line in American
history to determine where the population s allegiance laid. While the Second Great Awakening riled
up a lot of devout Baptists and Methodists, science had also taken a toll with the Industrial Revolution.
Which is still one of the most significant economic changes in American history to date. And although
Darwin s finds did not occur in the US, the effects of his theory of evolution made men and women in
the states question their beliefs and faith in religion. Technological developments also created issues
for the church as they were losing grip of power on their believers. Even though religion played a
large role in the early nineteenth century, given the facts, science and innovation captured the interest
of America s people and undermined their faith. Although faith was not the leading candidate for
winning over the allegiance, faith in religion runs deep down to the foundations of America. The early
settlers, such as the pilgrims, ran from Europe to practice their own faith without the accusation of
heresy. Puritanism was a religious reform movement that sought to purify the Church of England.
Their philosophy of a city upon a hill caused the United States to strive for

Between the World and Me Between the World and Me examines the history and present
circumstances of racial inequality and segregation in America. Coates directs the book to Samori to
give his audience personal insight into the various stages of a black man s life. From his childhood, to
his college experience, to his complicated role as a father, Coates gradually unfolds a critical account
of the relationship between black and white communities. He calls those who believe themselves to be
white the Dreamers and criticizes them for the indifference toward black people s experiences. He
wants the audience to reflect upon themselves and realize that they are part of the problem. Coates
gives a subtle indication on how he is reaching out to the audience by writing this letter to his son. He
begins the letter by saying Son but he does not specify who his son until halfway through the book
where he finally tells the audience his name. Coates finally reveals his sons name to the readers by
saying, The struggle is in your name, Samori... (69) indicating that there is an indifference towards
black people he wants people to notice. When he first brings up Samori s name, it gives the audience a
sense of their relationship. However, he might have let the audience know who his son was late in the
book to indirectly direct what he was saying to the audience. Samori s late mentioning in the book also

During the late seventies and early 80 s, the Drug Enforcement Administration tightened drug controls
and expanded its programs.
The eighties saw the introduction of new technology into the DEA, such as CAT (real time vehicle

administrator from 1981 to 1985. In 1982, the Drug Enforcement Administration officially joined
forces with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Many drug investigations were successful
during this time period, including one bust resulting in the seizure of over 1600lbs of cocaine.
In 1984 and amendment to the Controlled Substances Act was passed. The amendment provided
additional authority for the denial or revocation of a practitioner controlled substance registration
based on a demonstration that such registration was contrary to the public interest as described by the
Drug Enforcement Administration history on www.dea.gov. In 1986, the DEA began one of its most
successful programs, the Drug Free Workplace program. By 1988, over 2,000 drug tests were

The Oversexualization And Objectification Of Women
The Oversexualization and Objectification of Women
On all platforms of media, women and even young girls are oversexualized; thus leading to men
viewing women as no more than breasts, vaginas, legs, or any other body part they prefer. Even in
current television shows, movies, comic books, and advertisements, women are still depicted as sexual
objects, which can damage a woman s confidence. The oversexualization of women s bodies can
degrade a young woman s confidence, and when girls try to boost confidence by dressing or acting
like the women they see in the media, they are reprimanded for it. Girls cannot be blamed for their
sexualization; they are just emulating what they see in the media. On television and in movies, women
are often portrayed as the love interest for the main male character or the succubus that tries to gain
the main character s love through temptation. Most the women depicted in the romances are white,
thin, and busty. Often the attractive female lead has a best friend who is deemed overweight and never
receives any romantic interactions. The only goal the female character has is to gain the attention of
the main character. In other movies and television shows when the female character is not considered
attractive, she must go through a complete makeover before her love interest even notices her. Once
the makeover is complete, the girl s love interest is completely stupefied with her beauty and instantly
falls in love with her. This plot device leads

Ophelia The Innocent Victim in Shakespeare s Hamlet
Poor Ophelia, she lost her lover, her father, her mind, and, posthumously, her brother. Ophelia is the
only truly innocent victim in Hamlet. This essay will examine Ophelia s downward spiral from a

From the beginning of the play, in Act I Scene iii, Laertes and Polonius are trying to convince her that
Hamlet does not love her and only is interested in her so he can sleep with her. Laertes says Perhaps

In Act III scene i, Polonius and the King hide behind Ophelia s curtains and eavesdrop on the

a breeder of sinners? Hamlet goes on to say ...This was sometime a paradox, but now / the time gives
it proof. I did love you once. Ophelia replies with Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so. Her heart

deceiving her the whole time. This was likely a major factor in Ophelia s descent into madness and
eventually, death. Again, Ophelia is the victim.
Ophelia s downfall continues throughout the play, and her final plunge into the waters of madness and
suicide culminate around her father s death. Hamlet, while talking threateningly to his mother,
accidentally slays Polonius who was hiding behind the curtain in his mother s room. Hamlet thought it

considering it was the first time the boys held a meeting and discussed their situation. They came up

Michael Moore exposes corporate America s dark side in Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to

terrorism by dehumanizing and exploiting their workers then forcing them to the streets to survive.
The actions by individuals such as Roger Smith and Phil Knight are perfect examples of capitalists
constantly oppressing the working class described by Karl Marx. By dehumanizing workers business
owners are able to push them to the streets by closing factories and remain a good public image. Who

them to countries with lower worker standards to increase profit. This disregard of human life pushes
workers to the streets forcing them into poverty. What do these people have to look forward to after

often went on to say Poor Emily whenever anything happened to her (Faulkner 82). What I believe to

According to the APA the normal human copes by talking the death of a family member out with

  • 9. A Slave During The Slave Trade In the course of humanity, there have been times in which people will look upon one another with nothing but disgust and indifference. While it is becoming less of a situation as time progresses and ideals change, there was much controversy back when trading one another was legal. Abraham Lincoln once said in his novel entitled Complete Works Volume XII, Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves (Chandler). However, the question must be begged: what is slavery, and how much do people really know about some of the tragic stories that occurred during that time period? Olaudah Equiano was a slave during the slave trade who wrote an autobiography about his experiences with said topic. After being enslaved for ten years, he finally could afford to buy his freedom and become an anti slavery activist. His text explains his trek across oceans in a ship with awful living conditions. In the text, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, by Olaudah Equiano, the reader can learn about the conditions aboard the ships, the cruelty of the sailors and the aftermath of the Atlantic Slave Trade. To begin, Equiano speaks about the repulsive circumstances he experiences whilst on the ship. Being a miniscule boat, there should be no way that a surplus of slaves could fit...or it there? A Brief Note On Science And The Nineteenth Century Faith v.s Science Sunya Hassan History 10 Faith vs. Science in the Nineteenth Century Throughout history, the comparison of faith and science have caused debate between our historians. However, they can agree that the nineteenth century was somewhat of a blurred line in American history to determine where the population s allegiance laid. While the Second Great Awakening riled up a lot of devout Baptists and Methodists, science had also taken a toll with the Industrial Revolution. Which is still one of the most significant economic changes in American history to date. And although Darwin s finds did not occur in the US, the effects of his theory of evolution made men and women in the states question their beliefs and faith in religion. Technological developments also created issues for the church as they were losing grip of power on their believers. Even though religion played a large role in the early nineteenth century, given the facts, science and innovation captured the interest of America s people and undermined their faith. Although faith was not the leading candidate for winning over the allegiance, faith in religion runs deep down to the foundations of America. Coates directs the book to Samori to give his audience personal insight into the various stages of a black man s life. From his childhood, to his college experience, to his complicated role as a father, Coates gradually unfolds a critical account of the relationship between black and white communities. He calls those who believe themselves to be white the Dreamers and criticizes them for the indifference toward black people s experiences. He wants the audience to reflect upon themselves and realize that they are part of the problem. Coates gives a subtle indication on how he is reaching out to the audience by writing this letter to his son. He begins the letter by saying Son but he does not specify who his son until halfway through the book where he finally tells the audience his name. Coates finally reveals his sons name to the readers by saying, The struggle is in your name, Samori... (69) indicating that there is an indifference towards black people he wants people to notice. When he first brings up Samori s name, it gives the audience a sense of their relationship. However, he might have let the audience know who his son was late in the book to indirectly direct what he was saying to the audience. Samori s late mentioning in the book also allows the ... The Oversexualization And Objectification Of Women The Oversexualization and Objectification of Women On all platforms of media, women and even young girls are oversexualized; thus leading to men viewing women as no more than breasts, vaginas, legs, or any other body part they prefer. Even in current television shows, movies, comic books, and advertisements, women are still depicted as sexual objects, which can damage a woman s confidence. The oversexualization of women s bodies can degrade a young woman s confidence, and when girls try to boost confidence by dressing or acting like the women they see in the media, they are reprimanded for it. Girls cannot be blamed for their sexualization; they are just emulating what they see in the media. On television and in movies, women are often portrayed as the love interest for the main male character or the succubus that tries to gain the main character s love through temptation. Most the women depicted in the romances are white, thin, and busty. Often the attractive female lead has a best friend who is deemed overweight and never receives any romantic interactions. The only goal the female character has is to gain the attention of the main character.
