Visual Acuity Research Paper
What is visual acuity?
Visual acuity is commonly referred to as the clarity of vision and is dependent on both optical and
neural factors, such as the sharpness of the retinal focus in the eye, the health of the retina, and the
sensitivity of the brain. One aspect of visual acuity is the ability of recognizing and discriminating the
colours of the visible spectrum of light. There are two types of cells involved in vision: rod cells and
cone cells. Rod cells are highly sensitive cells that allow for low acuity vision in dim lit environments,
however they lack the detail and colour information. Cone cells are high acuity cells that provide
colour information in well lit environments. Rod cells provide more convergence than the cone cells
which results in their increased sensitivity but also results in the decreased acuity.
Physiology behind differences in visual acuity in men vs women
It is generally believed that woman have higher discriminatory abilities with respect to naming of
colours, which often implies they have superior colour vision. It has been found in many studies that
women perform better than men in the matching of colours from memory, and tend to use a plethora
of different words to describe sets of colour stimuli. It is possible that there exists an underlying
physiological explanation for why there should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that the separation of the colours (particularly red) will be affected depending on whether
the serine or alanine pigment variants are expressed. It has been found that these variants can actually
result in measured differences in spectral separation (Rodriguez Carmona et al, 2008). In males which
have a single X chromosome approximately half will have the alanine L cone pigment and the other
have will have the serine L cone pigment (Murray et al,

Negative Consequences Of European Exploration
European Exploration is negative due to the effects that individual explorers and triangular trade still
has on my life. Racism and the endangerment of native people are prime examples of the negative
consequences of European Exploration. John Cabot s exploration has had a negative impact on my
life. His discoveries led to the colonization of the Americas. Colonists came to the Americas and killed
natives for land and resources. Natives were frightened to the point of leaving their children in the
attempts to escape. This caused the mass extermination of whole groups of people. In North America,
descendants of these natives are being treated unequally due to their cultural differences. Additionally,
in the United States they are a small minority,

Occupational Therapy History
Occupational Therapy, as defined by WFOT is a client centered health profession concerned with
promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to
enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this
outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the
occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the
environment to better support their occupational engagement . Knowing the definition of Occupational
Therapy is vital to understanding the history of it, and how far this field has evolved over the years.
From the 1700 s to the 1800s, the moral treatment movement began, and was led by Phillippe Pinel
and William Tuke. Both of these men were considered the leaders of the movement. The three main
features of moral treatment include: respect for human individuality, acceptance of the ... Show more

mentioned above was an MD, and he published the Occupational Therapy, a Manual for Nurses in
1915. Around 1910, William Rush Dunton, Jr. helped create a system for using crafts in the treatment
of patients at Sheppard Asylum. The patients were expected to help complete tasks in an on site

Future Of The U.s. Dollar
Future of the U.S. Dollar
Today, the world economy, after witnessing the greatest hit in 70 years, is wondering what life will
look like after the storm has settled. It is grappling with the fundamentals of unemployment,
increasing inflation, current account deficits, negative growth, and zero interest rates along with it,
depreciating the value of money. In the midst of all this the future of the U.S. dollar is uncertain. Will
the dollar maintain its reserve currency status even after its depreciation and regain faith of the
nations? Or will it be replaced by some other currency, shifting the power balances among the nations
forever?
The U.S. dollar peaked in value in 2000 2001 and has been in a significant decline ever since. There
was a relatively brief period in 2008 when the dollar rebounded quite sharply due to the worldwide
financial crisis and economic meltdown, when there was a global rush to the safety of U.S. treasury
securities. But since then, the dollar has resumed its long term downtrend. In the recent years the
dollar has been improving relative to other currencies, becausee of the decline in those other
currencies.
With President Obama s most unprecedented spending plans in history, as well as trillion dollar budget
deficits and the potential to more than double the U.S. national debt in the next 5 10 years, there is
now a widespread speculation that the dollar is headed for new all time lows and a possible collapse.
As a result, we are seeing and hearing

The Methodological Base Of Cybernetic Reasoning
Much of the methodological base of cybernetic reasoning was developed during World War Two.
Work conducted on three grand engineering projects, rockets, radar, and the atomic bomb involved a
cybernetic worldview. Norbert Wiener s advancements in radar and automated air defense were
particularly influential. The black box style of reasoning in cybernetics, which treated systems as
defined by their inputs and outputs, came to prominence in other fields after the end of the Second
World War. The founders of Simulmatics were elsewhere during World War Two. Ithiel Pool was not
working on military defense projects. He, and many other Simulmatics affiliates, were instead
working towards psychological defense of the homeland. Pool worked for the Experimental Division
for the Study of War Time Communications, a secret research group working under the Department of
War. Pool, and other communications theorists, most notably Harold Lasswell, was initially tasked
with developing an automatic translator. When machine translation proved untenable, Pool and his
colleagues moved on to other applications of the text analysis techniques they had developed for
machine translation. The division developed quantitative content analysis techniques that could, using
statistical reasoning, determine whether or not a domestic publication was serving as Nazi
propaganda. Tracking the prevalence of symbols (words and phrases associated with subterfuge,
insurgency, and Nazism), could,

The Importance Of Participation In Sports
Sports, whether team based or individualistic is a great activity for children that provide a variety of
benefits other than physical activity. Participation in sports can help build self esteem, confidence,
motivate children to excel academically, promote social skills and engender future leaders.
Involvement in sports encourages children to become goal oriented. One may ask how being active in
sports correlate to public health? It is advantages for children to develop characteristics that positively
affect society. The Public health system encompasses services among many, that might be in the
children s best interest to deter them from deviant behavior. It is an essential function of our public
health system to inspire youth and children refrain from vandalism, dropping out of school, drug and
alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy criminal conduct ...while moderate participation in sport does initially
increase the risk of alcohol and drug use behavior, these risks diminish as sport becomes an even more
central part of a [youth s] time ( Stansfield, 2015 ).
The entities of the public health system that are instrumental in these endeavors are the Education and
Youth Developmental organizations, the Recreational and Arts related organizations and moreover,
healthcare. It is the duty of public health officials to educate and bring awareness to parents and the
youth involved about the harmful side effects that can be caused by sports such as traumatic brain

The Psychology Of Alfred Adler Essay
Alfred Alder s experiences as a child with feelings of inferiority and weak physique drove his theories
of organ inferiority and idea that humans strive for superiority (Engler, 2014). Alder met many
obstacles in his childhood because of his health including a bone disease called rickets, pneumonia at
the age of four, and he was run over twice (Engler, 2014). Alder insisted that his childhood was
difficult and unhappy considering that his bone disease made him clumsy and awkward (Engler,
2014). Adler s school teacher suggested he should be taken out of school, but he later became a
superior academic (Engler, 2014). In his adulthood, he established himself as a practicing neurologist
and psychiatrist (Engler, 2014.) Examining Adler s life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The negative outcome that may occur is the organ inferiority leading the person to develop possible
neurotic disorders, while the positive path would be ideal compensation and lead to optimal
achievements. Every individual with an organ inferiority can choose to utilize their strengths to
complete goals or dramatize their lives by trying to achieve the impossible. Vaughan (1927) mentions
five characteristics in which one should examine organic imperfection which are heredity, disease,
definite stigmata, childish defects, and reflect anomalies. Heredity was considered the aspect of the
major role in inferiority. The concept of heredity corresponds with Alder s first definition of organic
inferiority, which is inherited damage. Definite stigmata are abnormal features that should be looked
at that suggests that the person has an inferior organ (Vaughan 1927). The article gives the example of
childish defects as lack of bladder control (Vaughan, 1927). Reflect abnormalities whether they are
absent or exaggerated show there is a defective physiological mechanism (Vaughan, 1927). Alder s
life is an example of compensation. Alder had a bone disease that made him clumsy and awkward,
thus he worked on developing his intelligence rather than participating in sports. Alder stepped out of
feelings of inferiority and became a superior academic, and he also developed social interest and he
felt that he fit in his group

Private Security And Public Security
There is no doubt that in today s society the need for private security is important. For many years, it
has played a major part of everyday life. Through the years, many businesses have used private
security to protect property and prevent crime. Private security agencies are also held responsible for
protecting many of America s institutions, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation and health
facilities (Strom et al., 2010). Additionally, not only does private security play an important role in
domestic territory, but internationally. The fact of the matter is that private security in modern times
plays a major role in society. The attacks which took place on September 11, 2001 changed the
industry in the years that followed. Secondly, their role within the criminal justice system is important
as they must be able to collaborate with other agencies such as law enforcement. Lastly, the main
service provided by private sectors, guard services, is one of the most important jobs within the
industry. The fact, however, is that private security has played a major part in all aspect since terrorist
attack, a major part with other agencies, and in the services they provide.
To begin, one must look at what private security is. It is said that many experts do not agree on what
constitutes private security. Due to this there are many different types of definitions. Some of these
differences in definitions can be the focus of a job tasks, the influence of profit, and the

Alcohol In The Media Analysis
Shaken or Stirred?
How alcohol in the media affects young minds.
Media plays a big part in portraying alcohol to be something that young Australians feel they need to
try. Media does not just refer to their portrayal in television shows and movies, but also the role
advertisements have on television, radio, music, billboards, internet, signs, video games, public
transport and magazines. Television advertisement plays a major role in the attraction of alcohol to
adolescence, and a key aspect of this is the timeslot in which they are shown. The timeslot in which
television advertisements depict alcoholic beverages are more often than not in between programs that
are popular amongst the younger generations. This includes cartoons and programs ... Show more

Many youth even try to study these portrayals in order to look and act like the people they see in the
ads. They often show that increased social status and an overall acceptance by society will most
certainly be the result of consumption. This gets even more complicated when celebrities and role
models often associated with adolescence are portrayed with alcohol, as the younger generation will
feel more compelled to try alcohol if their role models do. This can lead to a subconscious abuse of
alcohol simply due to the fact that they don t know any better.
Advertisements aren t the only form of media that draws younger viewers in. Movies and television
programs that depict main, or even minor, characters consuming alcohol can also cause adolescence to
feel that there must not be that many negative effects if these people are doing it, or that the negative
effects must be worth it. A study shows that 52.1% of movies contain alcohol brand name
appearances, while 83% contained the consumption of

Victor Foils In Frankenstein
Throughout her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley consistently used other characters to show who
Victor Frankenstein was as a person. She used his mother, best friend, future lover, creation, and
Robert Walton to demonstrate how he reacted to certain situations and how he needed other people
around him to show his true character. Although Shelley wrote in multiple foils for Frankenstein,
Walton and the monster both consistently had Victor show who he truly was. In a way, Walton is the
best foil for Frankenstein because they are both so similar and both craved glory for their discoveries,
but Walton never shared the same weaknesses as Frankenstein. The monster was a part of Victor. He

He started to think through everything he did, and even stopped himself from creating a second
monster towards the end of the book. ...never will I create another like yourself, equal in deformity

decided not to create another monster. Victor had decided that creating another monster would be
much worse than losing everyone he loved. The monster caused Frankenstein to grow as a character.
He became more responsible and less impulsive by the end of the novel. Frankenstein may have lost
everything, but he had learned from his mistakes and knew better than to create a second monster after
he had suffered so much because of the first one. The monster s creation and overall character forced
Frankenstein to finally take into consideration the gravity of what he had done. Frankenstein had
finally understood that the monster was a result of his own actions, and, in fact, was the complete
embodiment of everything he had done wrong. The monster was all of Frankenstein s horrific actions
in one living being, and Frankenstein had finally understood that. Even Frankenstein s arrangement
with monster demonstrated Frankenstein s growth. The monster had caused Victor to feel empathy
towards the monster. In

The relevance to this study was important because it examines factors that cause withdrawals and my
assist with increasing retention rates. The information collected is significant to all stakeholders who
wish to retain minority students in higher education. Both public and private universities can stand to

Consequently, this study was significant because it revealed the inequities in college persistence
between universities and among various ethnic groups in selected public and private institutions.
Thus, investigating what caused minority students to persist in college beyond their freshmen year

Historic Homes Important For The Cultural Fabric Of The...
Introduction Not only are historic homes important for the cultural fabric of the community, they also
provide economic benefits. The adaptive reuse of existing structures is the greenest form of building
as it recycles all valuable parts, as opposed to the process of demolition and construction that creates
unnecessary waste and is more expensive. The preservation of existing structures within historic
districts provide a layer of protection for property values within the neighborhood. Through the Mills
Act, California has been successful in preserving the cultural fabric of communities, preventing
unsuitable alterations, and increasing the property value of neighborhoods. San Diego is the leader in
Mills Act contracts and has a documented history of its effects. With the proven success of the Mills
Act in San Diego, communities throughout various states can use the Mills Act as a blueprint for a
better preserved environment. Mills Act History The rezoning of Coronado Island in 1971 impacted
the taxation of historical landmarks like the Hotel Del Coronado. In response, Senator James Mills
developed the Mills Act in 1972. The Mills Act allows local municipalities the option of starting a
historic designation program. Before his service as a senator, James Mills was known in San Diego as
a historian, author, and preservationist. A short year later, the Mills Act was deemed unconstitutional
by the State Board of Equalization. The Act was reviewed and reworked. By 1978, the

Jung Typology Personality Analysis
The results of my DISC Assessment test were extremely interesting, and in my opinion, quite accurate

not very cautious, systematic, or much of a perfectionist. These results also tied in fairly closely with

letter, my results indicated that I have marginal or no preference of judging over perceiving. Judging

Mining Hazards Are Caused By Mining Activities That Impact...
Mining hazards are caused by mining activities that impact the nearby environment. Irreversible
damages were caused around the globe since the beginning of mining.
On January 22, 1959, an underground coal mine located in Pennsylvania, U.S.A., suffered one of the
major disasters in the American coal mining industry. The River Slope Mine, an underground coal
mine under the Knox Coal Company administration, was flooded by the Susquehanna River after their
experienced personnel followed orders and continued mining the Pittston vein area. Catastrophic
consequences followed after reaching the safety stop line beneath the Susquehanna River. From a total
of 82 men that were present at the time of the occurrence only 38 men evacuated successfully and
were able to find their way out with no other assistance than the desperation to live. After enormous
effort 32 men were rescued later that same day. The subsequent mine damage was extensive and sadly
12 men were trap, despite the relentless effort to rescue them the task was impossible to complete,
their bodies were never recovered.

The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population
Forced migration is defined as, a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and internally
displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as people
displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or development
projects (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since the 1940, this issue has
risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine out of 1000 people were
evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr Razum, 2017). Health problems can become abundant among forced
migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a small camp. Multiple diseases may begin
to fester among the refuge location because many people may bring the foreign illness to the location.
This may lead to new illnesses in a place that has not experienced that particular type of illness in that
area. Because majority of forced migrants are in such crowded quarters, diseases can proliferate
quickly throughout the population as a result of poor hygiene and sanitation. This leads to an increase
in health care demand; however, due to the increased amount of people in the vicinity these types of
services may be limited or unavailable to the individuals. A decrease or destruction of health care to
forced migrates can eventually lead to and increase mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). Language and
cultural barriers may impact health care attainment for some individuals of forced

Introduction
The purpose of this report is to analyze and illustrate the geographical origins of eragrostis tef along
with details of its global dispersion. The common name of the crop in Ethiopia is tef. It was chosen for
its cultural significance and it s importance
Background
In Ethiopia, about 4.9 million acres of land is devoted to its production every year. From 2003 2005
production statistics indicated that tef accounted for about 29% of the land and 20% of the gross grain
production of all major cereal cultivation in the country (National Research Council).
Eragrostis tef belongs to the grass family Poaceae, and is species of Eragrostis. It contains about 350

The use of tef was quite crucial for the Abyssinians, since the amount of tef seed required to plant
were hundreds of times smaller than that of wheat (Ingram). This productive potential and minimal
time and seed requirements have protected them from hunger when their food supply was under attack
from numerous invaders in the past.
It was reported by Unger in 1866 that tef seeds were also found in the Egyptian Pyramid of Dashur in
3359 BC (National Research Council). Dried tef straws were suggested to have been used in the
making of mud bricks used in the Pyramid of Dashur as well (Seyfu).
The closest wild relative to tef is generally considered to be eragrostis pilosa this species is recorded
as an annual growing weed from Eritrea and Northern regions of Ethiopia (Ingram).
Vavilov has recognized Ethiopia as the center of origin and variety of tef (National Research Council).
Due to the fact that several widespread and non widespread species of eragrostis, some of which are
considered the wild relatives of tef, are found in Ethiopia. Since the genetic diversity for tef does not
exist anywhere else in the world except in Ethiopia, confirms that tef originated and was

Signifier In Gillette Advertisement
Semiotics is defined as the study of symbols and signs as elements of communicative behaviour
(Nöth 476). A sign comprises of two main parts, namely signifier and signified. The signifier refers

Gillette Advert The signifier in the Gillette advertisement is represented by a naked man s torso with
contours similar to a landscape. It is clear that the torso is of man not a woman because of the
masculine physique. It is also appears that the model chosen for the image could be of Caucasian,

Organized Crime And Terrorism Similarities
They are two separate entities with similar characteristics. What are the differences? Although
organized criminals can engage in terrorism and terrorists can engage in criminal activity, their
objectives vary. Organized crime seeks opportunistic targets whereas, the operands modem of
terrorists is symbolic. Terrorism has the main goal of political and/or gain through the destruction of
property and human life.
Organized crime groups are usually made up of members with similar ethnic backgrounds (e.g., Italian
Mafia, Irish Mob) with the prime objective of seeking wealth and power. In the 1920 during
Prohibition, Organized Crime were instrumental in illegal alcohol sales. The success of Organized
depends on an extensive peripheral network. That peripheral network involves bankers, politicians and
law enforcement; ergo, these portals revolving around business activity protects the core of organized
crime (Stratfor, 2010).
Terrorist groups do not depend on an extensive peripheral network since they are driven by political
and/or social directives. Various Middle Eastern Groups (e.g., ISIL) involve the profitable business of

Beer As A Man Who Invented Beer Essay
He was a wise man who invented beer. Plato.
Beer is One of the most widely consumed beverages around the world. According to List 25, An
average American consumes about 23 gallons of the beverage a year, that averages about 27 six packs
or 1 ½ of a kegs which is a lot of beer. Beer was first seen when nomads made beer from grain and
water even before they knew how to make bread. It was considerably cleaner than the water they had
due to the fermentation and alcohol that is created. Then beer evolved over time and became better. In
the early 1800s beer started to become a revolutionary alcohol beverage. In the 1800s there were many
things beer evolved in to: it was known as Ale Oktoberfest was created, and the first golden lager was
created. Later on in the 1900s U.S. retail beer sales exceeded $45 Billion and The world s largest

Computers Are Becoming A Household Item
Introduction
Personal computers are becoming a household item; many houses not only have a personal computer
(one, at least), but also laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Dell Computers, Inc., the manufacturer of
Dell computers, perhaps one of the better known brands of computers, is one company that has been
active for 30 years in the personal computer industry.
Dell Computers was started in 1984 by University of Texas at Austin student, Michael Dell. (Fell,
2013). The company began in his dorm room, out of an idea that consumers will buy personalized
computers, rather than buying a stock item from a store. Dell quickly grew into a multi million dollar
company, going public in 1988. Dell soon expanded into Europe and Asia, and Michael ... Show more

Michael Dell s original idea, to allow the customer to order what they want in a computer, was a
simple, yet effective one. It allowed Dell to grow quickly and become a leader in the industry. (Treacy,
Michael and Wiersema, Fred, January February 1993 Issue).
According to Michael Treacy and Fred Wiersema, writing for the Harvard Business Review, Dell did
three things:
1. Redefined value for customers in the personal computer industry
2. Built a powerful, cohesive business system that was able to deliver more value than that of its
competitors
3. By successfully fulfilling the first 2 objectives, Dell raised consumers expectations beyond what
Dell s competition could fulfill.
In other words, Dell made an effort to understand what customers valued and how to deliver it and
then raised the expectation level of the consumers. Dell computers gaine a reputation for being
reliable and affordable; buyers were able to go online and customize their PC to their preference

You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it. This quote is written by Margaret Thatcher.
This quote inspires me because it relates to me in real life. I ve tried so many times on many different
things, but i ve never gave up so I eventually won it or got it. For example Ar, Ar is very hard for me
because I don t like reading. Last year I got an F on my report card for Ar each quarter. It was hard, I

much as I can and took as much test as I can but the first quarter i failed again. So I tried even harder,
so when the next quarter s grades came out i got an A. I kept trying and eventually I won. So that s
why I chose this quote. I m pretty sure everyone can relate themselves to this quote. This quote can

Monday Night Raw Film Analysis
The scene demands darker lighting and many angles. The area needs to be as three dimensional as the
characters who inhabit it. As is, we have three dimensional characters in a one dimensional space.
There is no depth to their world. The components and meanings of the image become muddled
together in a dull manner.
And this analysis doesn t even address the concept of what the backstage world is. How does it fit into
the rest of the show? How why are audiences capable of seeing it?
What role does the fourth wall play in these segments, if any?

We could credit it as the way wrestling is, but that explanation is not enough.
That s the same mediocre standard that lets people think this is all fake. The backstage area of a WWE
event, in real life, is a fascinating place. The characters alone could serve up a unique visual language.
RAW has the freedom to explore something no other sport and no other television show can. You get
to see the journey behind the curtain of Monday Night Raw while also watching it.
Viewers still don t have access to a fictional version of that world behind the curtain. Backstage
segments continue to reduce that fascinating space to a single dimension. And the characters become
subjects who may or may not be aware of their surroundings.
Going back to the scene between Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon, a lot would have to go into
reshaping it. In fact, the WWE would need to re think the fundamental approach of its visual narrative.
But that s not as severe of a creative overhaul as it sounds.

The Cold Mountain, By Charles Frazier
Within Charles Frazier s Cold Mountain, religion is an ever present component to the novel. This is
prevalent within Inman, Ada and Monroe, Swimmer, and the mountain town itself. At times,
characters will present aspects of religion that do not coincide with the common Christian beliefs
within Cold Mountain, such as Monroe s teachings or Swimmer s own religion as opposed to
Christianity. Each religious person or reference within the story creates a sense of differentiating
views as well as an introduction to multiple perspectives of religion, self, and action. Regarding Inman
and his view of Christianity, he has a deep connection to the church. When Monroe arrived at the
church, the townspeople were skeptical of his sermons because his view of religion did not pose God
as a punishing god, separating his belief from the previous beliefs of the mountain people. Monroe
began to give the people of Cold Mountain a new view and perspective of religion, one not included in
their presumably primitive Baptist background. Monroe quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, which follows
the belief that nature is a way in which God shows his love for the world. According to Inman s
remembrance of one of Monroe s quotes, it goes as follows, that which shows God in me, fortifies me.
That which shows God out of me, makes me a ward and a wen. There is no longer a necessary reason
for my being. Already the long shadows of untimely oblivion creep over me, and I shall decrease

Social Factors Of Public Policies Essay
Social Factors Student s Name Institution Affiliation Introduction Social problems are highly caused
by the improper administration of laws, distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges in a
society. Justice is at the heart of many legal, political, religious and philosophical arguments. Social
factors affect all persons, irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race and religion to be
treated equally and without prejudice. Public policies are expected to solve problems efficiently and
effectively, serve justice, support governmental institutions and policies and encourage active
citizenship. However, public policies at both the local state and national level may contribute to social
problems. Some of these rules impose restrictions on the freedom needed by individuals hence
limiting the aspect of fairness and equality in the society. Moving towards the right direction and
building a stable complete functional community in the world will be noted only if the negative
aspects in the society are done away with as soon as possible. This paper is a discussion on several
aspects in the society; inequality, gender, race and ethnicity, work and economy, marriage and family.
Part I: Inequality. The social disparity has negative effects especially to those affected by this
unfortunate element in the society. Equality in the society is an important factor, as it brings feelings

Controlling Males in Browning s Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess
The death of the female beloved is the only way deemed possible by the insecure, possessive male to
seize her undivided attention. This beloved woman represents the reflector and guarantor of male
identity. Hence, the male anxiety about the woman s independence for her liberty puts his masculine
self estimation at risk (Maxwell 29). The jealous and controlling males in Robert Browning s
Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess possess a fervent desire to fix and monopolize their
unconstrained female beloveds. Due to a fear of death, both speakers attempt to achieve control and

Browning s romantic setting Porphyria has come to [the lover] out of a world from which he is
foreclosed implies that her darling one wish was something comparable to: I want to be with you
forever. The speaker misreads her comment in order to escape being a loved object to be abandoned
again. He states that Porphyria s feminine position is one far too weak to break the vainer ties in a
world of which he cannot be a part of. Torn between passionate possession of her and inevitable
abandonment, he has murdered her in order to turn her into a fetishistic object which can never leave
(Ingersoll 154). The lover confirms that he is in control. He is the observer; she, the silenced object.
Even God has not said a word! (60), rendered silent in the face of the narrating of this masterful
subject (Ingersoll 154). Through the power of his monologue, this lover successfully defies God and
remakes Porphyria into his own object of desire.
Like Porphyria s lover, the murderer in My Last Duchess also demands control in his relationship with
the Duchess. The Duke begins his speech by exposing the exquisite portrait of his former wife to an
initially unidentified guest. To him, this object is his wife. The language he uses in relation to the
portrait seems deliberately confused:

Reflective Paper On Moral Responsibility
Reflective Paper Regarding Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals
Dalia M Al Rubaye
Parkdale High School
Abstract
This paper is generally about the correlation between moral responsibility and rehabilitation. Moral
responsibility was examined in the context of criminals and ordinary people. What brings about a
crime, and what impels an individuals to commit an action that he realizes is wrong. Also, the concept
of rehabilitation and the way in which it is applied were examined to deliver a better understanding of
issues regarding criminals. Examining these concepts was the key used to depict the moral
responsibility, that s innate in people, and how it should be considered in rehabilitating criminals.
Key words: Morality, self respect, conscience, rehabilitation
Moral Responsibility of Rehabilitating Criminals I am a person with very little knowledge regarding
criminology. Luckily, I ve acquired some knowledge from being a girl who loves to read about
philosophy. Linking between the morals I ve learned as a religious person and the theories about the
innate format of a human being presented by philosophers, I was able to initiate my thinking process
and organize my ideas. My ultimate goal was to get to the point where I m able to decide whether the
society and I are morally responsible of rehabilitating criminals or not. Based on my trivial
knowledge, I think that we, as individuals habitating the same community, are morally responsible

Graffiti Research Papers
Graffiti has existed for several decades and it s still going strong. By the definition of any type of
writing on the wall, it actually goes back to ancient Rome. The style of urban graffiti, that most
identify as graffiti, came from New York City in the late 1960s. It was born by the tagging of subway
trains. Tagging means, that they would simply leave their signature in places. For tagging on the
insides of trains, permanent markers worked, but using spray cans of paint quickly became popular as
well, especially for tagging on the outside of trains.
Soon, graffiti became more than just simple tagging, because the graffiti artists, would try to exceed
each other in terms of style. At first, writers would try to make their tags more stylish than anyone else
s. Later on, they would add more colours, special effects, and make their name bigger. Graffiti really
evolved into a complex art form with its own techniques and vocabulary. From simple tags on the

example the first showing of the prologue is a new reader on a television screen, this inclines the
audience to believe important news is coming, it also suggest tragedy. The second time the audience

Taking a Look at Sedum or Stonecrop
Sedum (Sedum spp.), or stonecrop, is a resilient succulent that consists of about 400 species that can
grow pink, white, red or yellow, butterfly attracting, star shaped flowers. Although some varieties can
thrive in warmer zones, most are hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3
through 9. Because these zones can experience sometimes unexpected cold temperatures and frost,
knowing which type of stonecrop to grow is essential to your success. (See References 1 and 2)
About Sedums
Sedums varieties can range in height; some low growing varieties reach no more than 2 inches in
height, while some tall varieties can reach up to 2 feet or more. The low growing varieties work well
in rock gardens and make good ground cover, while the tall varieties work well in borders or as cut
flowers. The origin of the variety you choose to grow greatly determines whether it will survive in
your climate. Without proper protection, sedums that originate from tropical or desert like climates
won t tolerate cool, frost prone areas, while sedums that stem from cooler areas, won t tolerate heat.

The Progression of Streptococcus suis Meningitis Essay
There are three types of pathogens that cause meningitis. The first type of pathogen is Haemophilus
influenzae type b. It is an aerobic gram negative bacteria, meaning they have relatively thin cell walls
and can be resistant to antibiotic treatment. In 95% of invasive diseases are caused by type b. Before
the introduction of a vaccine, it was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis most common in infants.
The organism colonizes in the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat behind the nose) and can
sometimes invade the bloodstream and cause infection at a distant site.
Neisseria meningitides is a bacteria that causes meningoccal disease. It is aerobic, Gram negative
bacteria that causes serious, sometimes fatal, infection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An MRI indicated inflammation of sulci, a groove in the brain, vascular congestion and cortical edema
or fluid on the brain. A spinal tap was obtained from the patient and because of possible pneumococcal
meningitis, an intravenous therapy with a combination of a steroid and antibiotics. Streptococcus suis
was identified and the patient was asked about any recent contact with swine. For several weeks, he
had been slaughtering, by hand, several non commercially raised pigs for a luau. And although he did
not recall any mucosal exposure to the pig blood or secretions, there is no known route for infection to
humans. He did not wear any type of protective gear, i.e., gloves, apron or facemask. His exposure to
pigs blood, skin and organs was extensive. During the slaughter process, his hands sustained multiple
cuts. It is possible that the bacteria entered through those cuts as no other church members who
participated in the preparation became ill. Treatment of ceftrixone and a 4 day course of dexmathasone
was prescribed and his headache improved. He was discharged after 6 days and given a 2 week course
of IV ceftrixone. After 1 day of discharge, he was affected again by headaches accompanied by a mild
hearing loss. After a repeat spinal tap was administered, it was concluded that the headache was a
result of residual meningeal/cerebral edema (swelling) that resolved

Social Change In The Truman Show
The Truman Show (1998) is a science fiction comedy drama that tells a story about a man named
Truman, Jim Carrey, who finds out that his entire life has been a reality show. Since birth, Truman has
been the star of this reality show and everyone in his life, including his best friend, wife, and parents,
have been actors. The executive producer of the show, Christof, has controlled every aspect of Truman
s life. Truman s hometown of Seahaven is a complete set built under a giant arcological dome in the
Los Angeles area. To prevent Truman from ever leaving and discovering his false reality, Christof,
creates an abnormal fear to the water, the only way to leave Seahaven, by having the man who plays

Truman questioned the life he lived in and fought to escape it. The film comments on how settling into
a life where you don t get to achieve goals or dreams, can leave a person empty and therefore living a
life that has no meaning. We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented, it s as simple
as that, Christof says in an interview when asked why he thinks Truman has not figured out that he s
living in a fake world. The accepting of reality that presented, is also parallel to enforcing a status quo.
The film depicts it in a depressing and ignorant light, showing the hardships Truman has had to go
through when trying to break away from the status quo then settling with his reality. As I said before,
Truman s life is supposed to be the epitome of the American Dream. Living in suburbia with a job,
wife, car and relative safety and predictability. The Truman Show (1998) shows that this dream is
nothing more than a pretty cage, and a hollow life. Truman s escape from the dome was an act of
rebellion against the creator of the perfect world, Christof, and everyone who tried to keep him there.
He changes the status quo of his world and forces his creator to beg him to stay. Truman chooses to
break fee and enter into the world of the unknown despite the risks. He leaves Seahaven, a nice place
to live, and ventures to a new place that could be potentially dangerous. He ends the show and the
world he used to live

The Stroop Effect
Abstract
The aim of this experiment was to test cognitive interference. The Stroop Effect is the finding that
naming words is easier than stating the color of the word. The Stroop Effect was first conducted in
1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal
reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks.
Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to read the color of
the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two. This experiment had a
repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The independent variable was
reading the test paper during both tasks. The dependent variable was the time it would take to
complete task one and task two. Participants were asked to read the test paper as fast as they ... Show

The results of our replicated experiment show that just simply reading the word did not take as long as
reading the color of the word. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word versus
reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better comparison to
understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is
because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires
more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider
which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates
conflict in your mind. Based on our schema, we know that reading the actual word is more important
than reading the color. Inference shows that you are not always in control of what you are able to pay
attention to, this occur when you try and focus on the color of the

Bad China Days Essay
Everyone has bad days and expats are no exception.
Yesterday was one of my bad China days ( or morning to be precise). The day start wonderfully. A
good nights sleep, refreshing shower and then breakfast with my wife. We were both ready to face the
day, She set off on her mobility bike (she has a walking disability) and I got to the bus stop just in time
to catch the 6.45am bus.
All seemed right with the world. Well, you know that saying about the calm before the storm read on.
About 5mins into the journey it dawned on me that driver was displaying a very strong affection for
the first gear. He just didn t want to leave it. Normally, our slow procession would have bee a
refreshing experience. I usually complain that bus drivers in China driver too fast ,but on this occasion
I had a morning class to get to ,so the usual devil may care approach would have been appreciated. I
though, had no other alternative , but to accept my fate. I settled down with mobile in hand and read
the BBC News. Part two of my troublesome morning was about to begin and with it my worries about
time keeping, like me would take a back seat.
At the next stop a young guy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the rain,I would only have to wait around 5 mins at the most for the bus that would take me to
class. Low and behold, there it was approaching and with a driver who seemed more accustomed to
the norms of Chinese bus driving. On the bus I got a seat which is unusual at this time of the morning
as rush hour is in full swing. After a short while I noticed the bus taking a right in a place it had never
taken a right before. Probably road works I thought. We kept heading in a direction that was taking me
further and further away from where I wanted to go. In my less than perfect Chinese I asked a fellow
passenger what was happening. Didn t completley understand all that was said, but basically the bus
company had changed the

Active Versus Passive Learning Essays
Most students these days just think they have to go to class, pay attention, write some notes and they
will do fine. That may be true for some people but if they were to use a more active learning approach
instead of passive, they could do even better. Active learning is a learning approach that gets the
student more involved which helps lead to a better understanding and idea of the material being
learned (VickyRN, 2009). Passive learning is the common classroom learning approach where you
listen to a teacher and read information (VickyRN, 2009). If students were more aware of the benefits
of active learning and the difference between active and passive learning, they could achieve higher
academic results and may even enjoy it more. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Expert learners are people who know their learning goals and do their best to reach those goals (O
Brien Moran, 2012). They start early, come up with strategies to help them achieve their goals and are
often satisfied with their results (O Brien Moran, 2012). Novice learners however, have no goals, they
cram the night before a test and just do not give a full effort into their learning and are usually
disappointed with their results (O Brien Moran, 2012). Expert learners often engage in self regulated
learning. Someone who is a self regulated learner is said to begin with setting goals, planning how to
achieve those goals taking into account their time constraints as well as their strength and weaknesses
related to that specific learning task (O Brien Moran, 2012). Once they set their goals and have a
strategy, they carry on while monitoring their results (O Brien Moran, 2012). If their strategies are
working well for them, they continue on, but if they aren t, they adjust until they find something that
works for them and helps them reach their goal (O Brien Moran, 2012). Being an expert learner would
be a great technique to use if you want to learn more actively because it gets you more involved with
your work and you are not just showing up to class, writing some notes and never looking at them
again. Another technique we have talked about in class that would help students learn more actively is
working in groups. Working

Legacy Admission Should Not Be Allowed Since World War I
Legacy Admission As Peter Schmidt of the chronicle says, legacies originated after World War I to
support the immigrant students, particularly Jews. When it became harder to control Jewish
enrollment, in 1920 s most respected universities such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton considered
legacy status. Since then it has raised the concerns for lower class families who did not attend good
universities and their children wanted to attend but ended up not getting admission. In 2003, Senator
Edward Kennedy sought legislation to compel colleges to make public their data on legacy
admissions. It didn t pass due to higher education s powerful lobbying. Legacy admission ... Show

It shows how ivy colleges prefer legacy admissions. Although it is not illegal, but recently two legal
theories are offered under which legacy preferences could be challenged at both public and private
institutions under the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause (Ladeswki 578). The civil act
of 1866 prevents the states from giving titles of nobility. Minorities since most of elite university s
alumni belong to upper class families. Americans are concerned about such type of practices as it
creates doubt about institution s commitment to meritocracy and equal opportunity (Mullen 47). On
the contrary, three out of four Americans oppose ancestry based discrimination so they can create
equal opportunities for lower class families to get into elite colleges. According to Mullen research
shows that a candidate has a 30% chance of admission, an applicant with the exact same academic
record and extracurricular activities, but also a parent who attended the school as an undergraduate
would have 75% chance. This shows that due to legacy admission, there s less academic competition.
Moreover, many colleges claim that legacy status is just use as a tie breaker in a very close admission
call. However, according to the book affirmative action for the rich informs that the weight of legacy
preference is noteworthy, adding 160 points to candidate s record. Samuel G.

Davidson Conformity
In Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason, Michel Foucault, the French
philosopher, writes, What desire can be contrary to nature since it was given to man by nature itself .
In this quote, Foucault examines the absurd nature of human conformity to social norms. Society has a
way of creating unofficial rules and regulations for how the human race should behave and carry out
daily activities. Australian writer and traveler Robyn Davidson challenged the constraints of
conformity when she trekked 1,700 miles across the Australian desert with only four camels and a
dog. As a young, broke, inexperienced, female embarking on an extraordinarily difficult solo journey,
Davidson had all odds for success against her. From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not need anything but the land to live off of, which is why they cannot understand the
western culture and their materialistic need. In the words of Davidson, [the Aboriginal people] are not
separate from the land. When they lose it, they lose themselves, their spirit, their culture...by denying
them their land, we are committing cultural and, in this case, racial genocide (171). After observing
Mr. Eddie, the Aboriginal man who accompanied Davidson for a leg of her journey, [taking] nothing
but his tin of medicines (175), Davidson learned to shed her figurative and literal burdens. After
meeting Eddie, Davidson discarded much of [her] junk...so the pack was lighter and easier to load
(175). With a newfound I only need the essentials mindset she learned from Mr. Eddie, Davidson
[began the] process of paring down possessions...until [she] had only the barest of essentials (175). By
the end of her journey, Davidson carried only a survival kit,..a filthy old sarong for hot weather and a
jumper and wooly socks for cold weather and [she] had something to sleep on and something to eat
and drink out of (259) with her. Everything she needed could be found in the desert. Before her trip,
Davidson had been sick of carrying around the self indulgent negativity which was so much the
malaise of [her] generation, [her] sex, and [her] class (37). The Aboriginals taught Davidson to defy

  • 2. Visual Acuity Research Paper What is visual acuity? Visual acuity is commonly referred to as the clarity of vision and is dependent on both optical and neural factors, such as the sharpness of the retinal focus in the eye, the health of the retina, and the sensitivity of the brain. One aspect of visual acuity is the ability of recognizing and discriminating the colours of the visible spectrum of light. There are two types of cells involved in vision: rod cells and cone cells. Rod cells are highly sensitive cells that allow for low acuity vision in dim lit environments, however they lack the detail and colour information. Cone cells are high acuity cells that provide colour information in well lit environments. Rod cells provide more convergence than the cone cells which results in their increased sensitivity but also results in the decreased acuity. Physiology behind differences in visual acuity in men vs women It is generally believed that woman have higher discriminatory abilities with respect to naming of colours, which often implies they have superior colour vision. It has been found in many studies that women perform better than men in the matching of colours from memory, and tend to use a plethora of different words to describe sets of colour stimuli. Racism and the endangerment of native people are prime examples of the negative consequences of European Exploration. John Cabot s exploration has had a negative impact on my life. His discoveries led to the colonization of the Americas. Colonists came to the Americas and killed natives for land and resources. Natives were frightened to the point of leaving their children in the attempts to escape. This caused the mass extermination of whole groups of people. In North America, descendants of these natives are being treated unequally due to their cultural differences. Additionally, in the United States they are a small minority, ... • 5. Occupational Therapy History Occupational Therapy, as defined by WFOT is a client centered health profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people and communities to enhance their ability to engage in the occupations they want to, need to, or are expected to do, or by modifying the occupation or the environment to better support their occupational engagement . Knowing the definition of Occupational Therapy is vital to understanding the history of it, and how far this field has evolved over the years. From the 1700 s to the 1800s, the moral treatment movement began, and was led by Phillippe Pinel and William Tuke. Both of these men were considered the leaders of the movement. • 6. Future Of The U.s. Dollar Future of the U.S. Dollar Today, the world economy, after witnessing the greatest hit in 70 years, is wondering what life will look like after the storm has settled. It is grappling with the fundamentals of unemployment, increasing inflation, current account deficits, negative growth, and zero interest rates along with it, depreciating the value of money. In the midst of all this the future of the U.S. dollar is uncertain. Will the dollar maintain its reserve currency status even after its depreciation and regain faith of the nations? Or will it be replaced by some other currency, shifting the power balances among the nations forever? The U.S. dollar peaked in value in 2000 2001 and has been in a significant decline ever since. There was a relatively brief period in 2008 when the dollar rebounded quite sharply due to the worldwide financial crisis and economic meltdown, when there was a global rush to the safety of U.S. treasury securities. But since then, the dollar has resumed its long term downtrend. In the recent years the dollar has been improving relative to other currencies, becausee of the decline in those other currencies. With President Obama s most unprecedented spending plans in history, as well as trillion dollar budget deficits and the potential to more than double the U.S. national debt in the next 5 10 years, there is now a widespread speculation that the dollar is headed for new all time lows and a possible collapse. • 7. The Methodological Base Of Cybernetic Reasoning Much of the methodological base of cybernetic reasoning was developed during World War Two. Work conducted on three grand engineering projects, rockets, radar, and the atomic bomb involved a cybernetic worldview. Norbert Wiener s advancements in radar and automated air defense were particularly influential. The black box style of reasoning in cybernetics, which treated systems as defined by their inputs and outputs, came to prominence in other fields after the end of the Second World War. The founders of Simulmatics were elsewhere during World War Two. Ithiel Pool was not working on military defense projects. He, and many other Simulmatics affiliates, were instead working towards psychological defense of the homeland. Pool worked for the Experimental Division for the Study of War Time Communications, a secret research group working under the Department of War. Pool, and other communications theorists, most notably Harold Lasswell, was initially tasked with developing an automatic translator. When machine translation proved untenable, Pool and his colleagues moved on to other applications of the text analysis techniques they had developed for machine translation. The division developed quantitative content analysis techniques that could, using statistical reasoning, determine whether or not a domestic publication was serving as Nazi propaganda. The negative outcome that may occur is the organ inferiority leading the person to develop possible neurotic disorders, while the positive path would be ideal compensation and lead to optimal achievements. Every individual with an organ inferiority can choose to utilize their strengths to complete goals or dramatize their lives by trying to achieve the impossible. Vaughan (1927) mentions five characteristics in which one should examine organic imperfection which are heredity, disease, definite stigmata, childish defects, and reflect anomalies. Heredity was considered the aspect of the major role in inferiority. The concept of heredity corresponds with Alder s first definition of organic inferiority, which is inherited damage. Definite stigmata are abnormal features that should be looked at that suggests that the person has an inferior organ (Vaughan 1927). • 11. Private Security And Public Security There is no doubt that in today s society the need for private security is important. For many years, it has played a major part of everyday life. Through the years, many businesses have used private security to protect property and prevent crime. Private security agencies are also held responsible for protecting many of America s institutions, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation and health facilities (Strom et al., 2010). Media plays a big part in portraying alcohol to be something that young Australians feel they need to try. Media does not just refer to their portrayal in television shows and movies, but also the role advertisements have on television, radio, music, billboards, internet, signs, video games, public transport and magazines. Television advertisement plays a major role in the attraction of alcohol to adolescence, and a key aspect of this is the timeslot in which they are shown. They often show that increased social status and an overall acceptance by society will most certainly be the result of consumption. This can lead to a subconscious abuse of alcohol simply due to the fact that they don t know any better. Advertisements aren t the only form of media that draws younger viewers in. Movies and television programs that depict main, or even minor, characters consuming alcohol can also cause adolescence to feel that there must not be that many negative effects if these people are doing it, or that the negative effects must be worth it. The adaptive reuse of existing structures is the greenest form of building as it recycles all valuable parts, as opposed to the process of demolition and construction that creates unnecessary waste and is more expensive. The preservation of existing structures within historic districts provide a layer of protection for property values within the neighborhood. Through the Mills Act, California has been successful in preserving the cultural fabric of communities, preventing unsuitable alterations, and increasing the property value of neighborhoods. Irreversible damages were caused around the globe since the beginning of mining. On January 22, 1959, an underground coal mine located in Pennsylvania, U.S.A., suffered one of the major disasters in the American coal mining industry. The River Slope Mine, an underground coal mine under the Knox Coal Company administration, was flooded by the Susquehanna River after their experienced personnel followed orders and continued mining the Pittston vein area. Catastrophic consequences followed after reaching the safety stop line beneath the Susquehanna River. From a total of 82 men that were present at the time of the occurrence only 38 men evacuated successfully and were able to find their way out with no other assistance than the desperation to live. After enormous effort 32 men were rescued later that same day. • 19. The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population Forced migration is defined as, a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or development projects (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since the 1940, this issue has risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine out of 1000 people were evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr Razum, 2017). Health problems can become abundant among forced migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a small camp. Multiple diseases may begin to fester among the refuge location because many people may bring the foreign illness to the location. This may lead to new illnesses in a place that has not experienced that particular type of illness in that area. Because majority of forced migrants are in such crowded quarters, diseases can proliferate quickly throughout the population as a result of poor hygiene and sanitation. This leads to an increase in health care demand; however, due to the increased amount of people in the vicinity these types of services may be limited or unavailable to the individuals. A decrease or destruction of health care to forced migrates can eventually lead to and increase mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). The Prologue and First Scene of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet This essay will feature how different directors put the original text of Romeo Juliet into films using their own interpretations. In the prologue Shakespeare has given an insight into the play similar to a blurb on a book or a film trailer. The prologue sets the scene, In fair Verona (where we lay our scene), making the play more believable, as in Shakespeare s time scenery would have been minimal. In Elizabethan theatre the prologue would have been there to catch the audience and tell them that the play was about to begin, as well as including general information, two hours traffic of our stage, like how long the ... Two well known performances of Romeo and Juliet are by Luhrman and Zeffirelli. Baz Luhrman is one of many directors to show their interpretations of Romeo and Juliet . Luhrman repeats the prologue three times, in this sense he is trying to achieve the same as Shakespeare: to capture the audience. Luhrman accomplishes this by the variety of ways in which he portrays the prologue. For example the first showing of the prologue is a new reader on a television screen, this inclines the audience to believe important news is coming, it also suggest tragedy. The second time the audience view the prologue is in a selections of straight cut clips, these are out takes from newspapers, as well as pictures of the setting and characters. It is very similar to a short film trailer and the audience can relate to this, also as the shots are quick in concession this catches the viewers eyes. The third viewing of the prologue is fast black and white subtitles (of the prologue) appearing on the screen, this is there to make sure the audience got every part of the prologue and to aid understanding. • 42. Taking a Look at Sedum or Stonecrop Sedum (Sedum spp.), or stonecrop, is a resilient succulent that consists of about 400 species that can grow pink, white, red or yellow, butterfly attracting, star shaped flowers. Although some varieties can thrive in warmer zones, most are hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 3 through 9. Because these zones can experience sometimes unexpected cold temperatures and frost, knowing which type of stonecrop to grow is essential to your success. (See References 1 and 2) About Sedums Sedums varieties can range in height; some low growing varieties reach no more than 2 inches in height, while some tall varieties can reach up to 2 feet or more. The low growing varieties work well in rock gardens and make good ground cover, while the tall varieties work well in borders or as cut flowers. The origin of the variety you choose to grow greatly determines whether it will survive in your climate. Without proper protection, sedums that originate from tropical or desert like climates won t tolerate cool, frost prone areas, while sedums that stem from cooler areas, won t tolerate heat. (See References 1, p. 54 and References 3, p. 190) Freeze Hardy Sedum Varieties Sedums with finer, smaller leaves are generally more cold hardy and less heat tolerant than those with large leaves. (See References 3) Some frost tolerant varieties that are hardy to USDA hardiness zones 4 through 9 include the 4 inch tall tasteless stonecrop (S. sexantulare), which grows yellow flowers ... The Stroop Effect was first conducted in 1935 by John Ridley Stroop which was published in the Studies of interference in serial verbal reactions . This experiment was replicated by asking 40 participants to complete two different tasks. Task one involved reading words printed in different colors. The second task was to read the color of the printed word. Participants were timed while conducting task one and two. This experiment had a repeated measure and the participants included 20 girls and 20 boys. The independent variable was reading the test paper during both tasks. The dependent variable was the time it would take to complete task one and task two. Participants were asked to read the test paper as fast as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results of our replicated experiment show that just simply reading the word did not take as long as reading the color of the word. In this experiment, we chose to compare reading the word versus reading the color because we felt it was more ecologically valid and acted as a better comparison to understand the Stroop effect. The first reason as to why reading the color of the word takes longer is because of selective attention theory which explains that naming the actual color of the word requires more attention than simply reading the word. Interference is another important concept to consider which occurs when someone sees the words, they see both the color and its meaning and this creates conflict in your mind. Based on our schema, we know that reading the actual word is more important than reading the color. Inference shows that you are not always in control of what you are able to pay attention to, this occur when you try and focus on the color of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That may be true for some people but if they were to use a more active learning approach instead of passive, they could do even better. Active learning is a learning approach that gets the student more involved which helps lead to a better understanding and idea of the material being learned (VickyRN, 2009). Passive learning is the common classroom learning approach where you listen to a teacher and read information (VickyRN, 2009). They start early, come up with strategies to help them achieve their goals and are often satisfied with their results (O Brien Moran, 2012). Novice learners however, have no goals, they cram the night before a test and just do not give a full effort into their learning and are usually disappointed with their results (O Brien Moran, 2012). Expert learners often engage in self regulated learning. Someone who is a self regulated learner is said to begin with setting goals, planning how to achieve those goals taking into account their time constraints as well as their strength and weaknesses related to that specific learning task (O Brien Moran, 2012). Once they set their goals and have a strategy, they carry on while monitoring their results (O Brien Moran, 2012). If their strategies are working well for them, they continue on, but if they aren t, they adjust until they find something that works for them and helps them reach their goal (O Brien Moran, 2012). Being an expert learner would be a great technique to use if you want to learn more actively because it gets you more involved with your work and you are not just showing up to class, writing some notes and never looking at them again.
