Literary Analysis Of Theodore Dreiser s An American Tragedy
Theodore Dreiser s, An American Tragedy is a prime example of how social tensions between
the rich and the poor and the vicious need to rise to the top can lead to abandonment. The
protagonist, Clyde Griffiths is filled with the willingness to rise far above and looks down upon
his peers. After being represented and invited to see the luxurious ways of the rich Clyde
decides to abandon loose threads that can threaten his rise to the top. Clyde is easily influenced
by others which later on leads to his downfall. Clyde was never born into the luxurious way of
the rich. Infact throughout his life with his parents, Asa and Elvira Griffiths, who are religious
people, have moved from city to city often having difficulty providing food for their children.
Even though the Griffiths have taught their children moral values this has not stopped Clyde
from being tempted to live like his peers. Clyde s first influential encounter with people his age
was when he started working at the Green Davidson as a bellhop where he had become
acquainted to fancy places such as restaurants. At this time he had become vicious in making
himself look good in order to fit in with his peers and became obsessed in dressing well and
following norms that people of his age were doing such as learning how to dance and going to
social events. Clyde now having been introduced to the luxurious ways became even more obsessed
after being introduced to his uncle Samuel Griffiths. Samuel Griffiths owns a Shirt and

Doctor Welsh s Seizures
It was a long day; one full of many seizures. As a sit at the doctor s office waiting for my report, I
fiddle around with my mother s long, sparkly necklace. Barrett and Janine, the monotone voice said,
echoing off the walls in the room.
I began to shake hastily everywhere. I didn t know where I was. There were clouds moving in the
wind that looked like curtains.

Barrett will be entering another MRI tomorrow. Also the MRI calls for a diet that consists of only
vegetables and fruits. Additionally, the payment will be made afterwards depending upon what

never told you to stay still, therefore, we have the right to sue him since he began to yell at an

I guess the rumor has really started in that small hospital. I told him.

The news was out. Doctor Welsh was out of his mind and had been treating his patients unfairly

The Board Of Directors And Management
I. Introduction
The board of directors and management in companies respectively constitute a fatal role to control
issues within a company so as to face the internationalization of real and financial markets that ease
the boundaries of the business world and increase the corporation s complexity and risks. While the
responsibilities of senior management is to control the day to day business affairs to ensure the
implementation of the strategies approved by the board, directors control the direction and goal of
the company as well as establish the limits of management behaviour against management
misconduct. In that respect, making a proper and explicit distinction between the function or duties
of directors and senior management is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1) According to the judgement of the court in AWA Ltd v Daniels, we know that the board of

establish internal controls, management information systems and accounting records; reduce to
writing if appropriate and communicate policies and strategies adopted by the board; summarise
the information that reflects the financial position and corporation s affairs for the board; prepare
the suggestions, proposals and budget for the board; deal with the personnel problem such as hiring

Essay On Holy Trinity Cathedral
Holy Trinity Cathedral
On March the 6th ,2016, I visited the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral church in San Francisco.
The site is located in a convenient neighborhood one block south Union St at 1530 Green St. This
Orthodox Church is the oldest Orthodox parish in town, and it is one of the few parishes in
northern California with such a unique shape. The church was designed to show the Russian
unique architect, and its outstanding shape connected to Moscow patriarch. Even though it is a
small church, but it looks stunning where it s placed right in the corner with a two sides street view.
What religious tradition the site is a part of The contemporary Orthodox Church historically
connects to the earliest Christian communities founded in the eastern part of the Mediterranean by
Jesus. The fundamental core ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole worship is highly liturgical as well as iconographic, both of which are central to the
church s life, history, and practice. The iconic, that include depictions of Jesus, Mary the Virgin,
biblical scenes, and saints, are believed to create an atmosphere where God is present. Strongly the
Eastern Orthodoxy doctrinal places great authority in the Bible, the Creeds, and the seven
ecumenical councils. The Russian Orthodox reflects not only its Orthodox heritage, but also the
culture of its native land. In fact, it also reflects the most central belief in all Christianity is the
doctrine of resurrection. People who follow the Orthodox Church believe that Jesus Christ was
crucified and died, then afterward descended into Hell and returned three days later, fully human
and divine. He as well brought with him the promise of salvation and spiritual immortality, which
he gave to every human being. In the Orthodoxy faith all the religious beliefs are connected directly
or indirectly to that core

Antigone Gender Roles Creon
Gender roles is a major theme in Antigone. The characters all have different ways of acting on the
same conflict. Antigone and Creon are the main characters, but Ismene and Haemon s roles are
also significant when it comes to the gender roles in the play. Due to the time period, women and
men were expected to act a certain way. Antigoneand Haemon do not act like the typical woman
and man of their time; Creonand Ismene do. Gender roles are important in Antigone because the
actions the characters choose to take is what leads to conflict in the play.
In Antigone, there was a battle between two brothers, Eurydice and Polynices. They were battling
for the throne and both ended up murdering each other. Creon, the king of Thebes, ruled that

The fall of the Roman Empire gave way to Rome regaining political power through the Church
which was the Official religion of the Empire. In that way, Rome s former territories could gain

Weberian Bureaucracy Case Study
First of all, I agree that the political structure and administrative arrangements in Hong Kong have
contributed to the closest approximation of Weberian bureaucracy in contemporary world. When
Hong Kong government gained sovereignty after the handover in 1997, it has adopted the
bureaucracy model to solve the problems of its inefficiency post governmentduring the colonial
period. The bureaucracy was suggested by a German sociologist Max Weber, who claimed it as an
ideal system for the efficiency of the organization and administration. Max Weber s bureaucracy
consists of six specific characteristics: division of work, authority hierarchy, formal selection, formal
rules and regulations, impersonality, and career orientation. Among these six... Show more content

For the Victoria Harbor planning, Hong Kong government decided to coordinate with various non
government actors and private sectors. This was because the Government believed harbor planning
should not only limited to government s purview but should integrate the public s opinions towards
the planning. However, the government was superior in decision making process and showed that
it did not wanted publics to engage in policy making process. For example, most of policy making
process was done autonomously by the government where the non government actors were absent;
lack of communication channel between the government and non government sectors; and
government only informed its decisions to non government sectors without consulting with them.
Therefore, there were constant conflicts between the government, private sectors, and the group of
civil society throughout the process. If there was a proper communications and co ordination, and if
government allowed non government actors to engage in decision making process, the tension
between the government and non government actors wouldn t be exist. Because even though their
interests and aims are different they can reach an agreement throughout the direct and indirect
communications. Therefore, with impersonality presents in the policy co ordination process, the
power structure would not

Assertive Discipline Scenarios
Assertive Discipline Approach Scenario #1 The advantages of the approach are that Clinton is
aware of what the expectations are from the teacher. At the start of the year the Ms Adams
clearly communicated her wants and needs to the class. She displayed these rules in the
classroom so that all the children can see that what is expected from them. Ms Adams gave
Clinton three chances, so that he could create a learning environment which is acceptable for
children to learn. Once Clinton had received three chances Ms Adams had the right to bring in
other people to support her and the child to create an environment which allows children to learn
and develop. The disadvantages of the approach are that Ms Adams used discipline to assert her
dominance over Clinton. I feel that by tracking the children s behaviour on the white board, the
children could see it as a challenge or game to get three marks on the board to test the limits of Ms
Adams. This system takes Clinton out of the classroom until his parents and the principal. I feel
that some children would love this punishment, so would not work for all. Democratic Discipline
approach Scenario #2... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is looking at the misbehaviour to see the reason behind it. Ms Taggert allowed Clinton to
talk about why he thought he was misbehaving and allowed him to discuss how he felt and why.
Ms Taggert gave him a responsibility as a leader to allow Clinton to satisfy his need for attention
and so he felt like he belonged in the group. I feel that Ms Taggert had used the information to
allow herself to see what Clinton needed in the classroom to support his learning and develop a
sense of among his class

The Color Purple Sisterhood
Day to day women are emotionally, mentally, and physically abused by men. They are degraded
by society and stripped away their sense of self worth. However when given a strong sisterly
bond between another female, one may regain their self confidence. The Color Purple Author
Alice Walker creates a theme based on sisterhood, and instills in the novel the power of love and

damage towards her self esteem. This leaves Celie to be a very submissive and fearful young
woman. In the primary stages of the novel, Celie struggles to discover her true identity and stand
up for herself in a society dominated by men. When Celie reluctantly gets married to a man
named Albert (Mr____), she is constantly beaten for no reason, other than to keep her
submissive and show his authority over her. His irrational violent act towards Celie causes her
to stay obedient and timid, and her perception of herself to be worse than it was to begin with.
After Albert s son Harpo marries a woman named Sophia, Celie starts to resent Sophia and is
jealous because of her willingness to fight back and because she is the complete opposite of her,
Sophia is a confident, strong and bold woman, who is not afraid to stand up for herself, and
although Sophia have their differences at first, Sophia later on tries to prove to Celie that not all
women are passive to their husbands. It is not long before Celie begins to admire Sophia and

The Role Of Paralegal In Family Law
Bird (2014) addresses the functions of a family law paralegal. If a client need assistance with
family issues such as divorce, adoption, domestic violence, child abuse or neglect then a paralegal
is the person to contact. As the paralegal, their job is to find out the problem the clients might have
by asking the right questions while keeping the client focused. When dealing with family law
aspects, it is easy for the clients to express their emotions. Paralegals duties are to call the clients
and schedule appointments to interview with the attorney at a convenient time (Bird, 2014). Some

Sales Tax Errors
To error is human, and that fact is never so apparent than when dealing with taxes. Recently,
several states have publicized the most common sales tax management errors experienced by their
residents in an effort to help business owners comply with complicated sales tax laws.
Each state has its own rules when it comes to sales tax errors, but generally jail time is reserved
for those who willfully and knowingly report incorrect sales tax. However, it can be difficult for an
auditor to distinguish an innocent accident from intentionally dishonest bookkeeping. So, it is best
to catch the errors you can before an audit and document all your business in an easy to follow and

Essay on Oppression of Women in The Awakening
Kate Chopin s novel The Awakening in the opening chapter provides the argument for women s
entrapment in roles that society has forced upon them. Chopin was not just trying to write an
entertaining story but trying to convey arguments against these social injustices. Women are like
these birds trapped in these cages unable to free themselves from these imposed roles by society.
Chopin opens her novel with the a parrot in a cage repeating the same phrase over and over. The
parrot is pretty to look at, but when the bird speaks it is very annoying. This is the way women

History Of Career And Technical Education
Career and Technical Education has played a large role throughout the history of the United
States and Ohio specifically. The legal history of Career and Technical Education in the United
States and the state of Ohio has a long history dating back to the 1800s. Career and Technical
Education is also at the forefront in current legal news: a bill sitting in committee and a push for
more Americans to study in Career and Technical Education related fields. With Americans
realizing that not everyone can or wants to attend college or university, Career and Technical
Education is relevant and so is its long history in the United States and, more specifically, Ohio.
Before 1862, there was really no legal history for Career and Technical Education. However,
Congressman Justin S. Morrill of Vermont proposed a bill in 1857 to have federal support in
agricultural and industrial education. President Buchanan did not support the legislation, so
there was no action on the bill. In 1861 however, Morrill reintroduced his bill to the House of
Representatives. President Lincoln later signed it in summer of 1862. This act gave public lands
to build colleges for agriculture and mechanical arts in each state. Each state, within five years,
had to provide a college or the state would be revoked of the grant. This set the stage clearly for
the rest of the legislation in what is now known as Career and Technical Education ( Independent
Action 38). The first major legislation in Ohio for Career

Comparision of the tragic characters in Othello and King...
The Greek philosopher Aristotle set forth the guidelines for a tragedy in his work Poetics.
According to Aristotle, the tragic character in a tragedy is a person, not all good or bad, who
begins in a rank of high degree and importance and then experiences a downfall due to a tragic
flaw. In the end of most tragedies, the character comes to a realization of his flaw after enduring a
great deal of suffering. William Shakespeare, an English playwright of the 17th century, composed
many tragedies, including King Lear and Othello, which exemplified the characteristics of a tragic
herooutlined by Aristotle. The main characters in King Lear and Othello share many of the traits
essential to tragic characters, yet they differ in their specific... Show more content on

The pride held by Othello and Lear leads to further pride in others. They gain a sense that others
would have no reason to do them harm which leads them both to deceit and poor judgment.
Because Othello thinks highly of himself, he believes others will do the same; his open and
trusting nature allows Iago to take advantage of him. Othello is constantly referring to Iago as
Honest Iago and entrusting him with important duties, such as attending to his wife when he leaves
for Cyprus. Iago scoffs at Othello s trust in him and shows intention of deceit:
The Moor is of a free and open nature,
That thinks men honest that but seem to be so,
And will as tenderly be led by the nose
As asses are. (Othello, I.iii.442 445)
Iago insults Othello by comparing him to a submissive donkey, and he displays an intent of
deceiving Othello in this simile. Lear s pride, like Othello s, causes him to trust others who plan on
deceiving him. Two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, gain Lear s trust through their flattering
formalistic love speeches by playing into his pride and boosting his self image. Lear is
unsuspecting of the daughters plot against him, and the two go on to take advantage of their father
s poor judgment. Lear trustingly divides his kingdom between them, giving up his power and
entrusting his well being into the hands of these malicious characters. Goneril

Essay On Lame Hypnotic Patterns
Frankly, I could go on for days explaining countless ways that NLP Hypnosis can help both Men
Women become better lovers... AND... to find better lovers.
That said, this is just an article, and you re just looking for some juicy content that you can start to
use immediately.
Before I get into the really good stuff, let me say that this isn t about being one of those cheeseballs
with really lame hypnotic language patterns. Very far from it.
To give you a bit of a chuckle, here s an example of what I mean by lame hypnotic patterns:
I once had a student of one of my NLP Training programs tell me that he had a great technique he
learned from his Pickup Artist Guru , and he asked if he could share it in front of the class.

I then informed him (after I stopped laughing hysterically which took a while LOL...) that I do

It could work, because he had enough confidence to dare to try something so incredibly lame.
It s the confidence that would work. Not the lame language pattern.
Anyway, here are 5 tips you can actually use that WILL work and will dramatically enhance your
experiences in the bedroom...
1. Learn how to anchor peak states (both emotional and physical). If you don t know what an
anchor is, in the simplest terms, it s an external stimulus that creates a consistent internal response.
For example, it s like when you hear a special love song, and it makes you think about your partner
in a romantic way.
That s just one example of many different kinds of anchors.
Anchors can be set via any, and or all, of our 5 senses, meaning visually, auditorilly, kinestheticlly
(meaning touch), smell, and or taste.
One of many great ways to create a powerful anchor is to gently touch your partner s ear, or ears
(some like tongue, some don t, but almost all like a very very soft touch) during peak emotional
and physical experiences. Yes, that means during

Character Analysis Of Equality 7-2521 In Anthem By Ayn Rand
In Ayn Rand s novella, Anthem Equality 7 2521 places himself in trouble yet again in chapter six.
Equality 7 2521 who is unique and sands out much throughout his life for being different, often he
endures consequences for being different. As the rest fear the government and lack the capability
to think for themselves, Equality 7 2521 stands out. He has no fear for the government and

refusing to confess where he was when the rest were at the Theatre he is taken to the Palace of

Equality is placed in a society, which he is unique and unlike the rest. He is not like the others
he is curious of the unknown, while the rest are carless and do not dare to expand their
knowledge. We looked upon the faces of the Council, but there was no curiosity in those faces,
and no anger, and no mercy (63). Using these words to describe the members of the Council of
the Home helps express the society that Equality 7 2521 is living in. The differences amongst
Equality 7 2521 and the government show the clash between them. People in the society are
hesitant to do the actions that they are told to do, but Equality 7 2521 feels pride in the actions
he is not suppose to take part in. Two men stood by the post, naked but for the leather aprons and
leather hoods over their faces (64). As these men hide their identity from doing an action they

disobeys showing the differences amongst Equality 7 2521 and the rest of society. Equality 7

Testing and diagnosing an ectopic pregnancy is actually difficult, because an answer to the
problem is not always clear cut, nor is it always available right away. The hCG levels in the
woman s body may be tested to check the rate of increase in them over the pregnancy. They
normally double about every two days in anormal pregnancy. But this alone is not a conclusive
indicator of an ectopic pregnancy. An ultrasound is frequently used, along with vaginal ultrasound
to try to visualize the pregnancy and the position of the baby. If a uterine (normal) pregnancy is
confirmed then the chance of an ectopic pregnancy is extremely rare. Sometimes it is too early to
diagnose an ectopic via ultrasound, and the exam has to be repeated. If the ectopic pregnancy is
visualized, on the other hand, then the couple will proceed to treatment options available depending
on their situation.
Sometimes in urgent situations a laparoscopy procedure will be done to provide both the diagnosis
and the treatment. This is done in an operating room as a surgery. If the patient does have an
ectopic, the procedure is surgically treated at that time.
The two main types of treatment are chemical and surgical. Chemical treatment is done with a drug
called methotrexate. It is used to literally dissolve the pregnancy in non urgent

The Most Powerful Computers Of The Technology World
Supercomputers
The most powerful computers in the technology world are the Supercomputers. Hence, as the word
super elaborate that supercomputers are usually used for the projects that needs to process large
amount of data, at very high speed. Supercomputers not only has the high processing power; they
are also huge in size. You need a big room to fit in a supercomputer, and a strong cooling system to
avoid getting a supercomputer to get overheated. They usually have more than one CPU s to
generate high level data processing speed, and they need to have a large storage as well. The
unit system that are used to measure the computing performance of the supercomputer are
FLOPS (Floating point Operation Per Second). The first ever supercomputer was made during
the time of Second World War named Colossus . It was made by The Great Britain, specially to
crack the coded messages of Germans. Colossus could read up to 5000 characters in a second.
Colossus was the start of a revolution in supercomputing. Since 1944, more enhanced and
powerful supercomputers were introduced for example MIT Whirlwind by MIT in 1950. Cray 1

Controversy In Shakespeare s Restless World
William Shakespeare is a name familiar to nearly every English speaking person. He is known
as a poet, playwright and actor, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the
English language. While many people might know a thing or two about Shakespeare, does
anyone stop to think about what the world was like around him? What kind of trials and
tribulations did the people of that Era have to face? What type of people did Shakespearian
productions attract? The book, Shakespeare s Restless World, answers these questions by using the
history behind certain objects from this era. Within the book, there are different objects that
represent events or people who surrounded Shakespeare, such as, the Stratford Chalice represents
political and religious controversy, the brass handed iron fork from the rose theatre represents the
audience, and the failed flags for Great Britain represent political controversy. The Stratford Chalice

The Possibility Of Evil Analysis
We all like to look at things that appeal our preferences. But sometimes, appearances can deceive
us, such as a good deal you may see. One common example would be online shopping. The price
that is offered upfront is very appealing, all until it comes down to the final cost after including
shipping and handling, taxes, or any other unmentioned expenses. Or maybe a movie that has an
interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of
judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis.
The main characters in the short stories Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahland, The Possibility
of Evil , by Shirley Jackson, should have known this lesson. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary
Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and
angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears
to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. After reading both
stories, the readers learn that even though something may appear one way, it can turn out to be
something completely different than we expected. True colors are not always revealed at first sight.
In The Possibility of Evil, Shirley Jackson gives us a character who seems to be the town s
sweetest, most innocent, and is the longest established resident, but in reality is a nosy, dark

Trojan Women Analysis
The Trojan Women was an eye opening escapade for multiple viewers. This play was written by
Ellen McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s
Department of Theatre and Dance. The cruel effects of war on the world is evident; however, most
forget about the heartache women behind the scenes experience. McLaughlin wrote a moving script
that portrays the struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry
displayed an emphasis on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women
was not a play for all types of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the
viewer. Personally, this play is not one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and
the direction tied together interestingly to make this production.
Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the
chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between
women that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through
their actions as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles
complimented with unique performers emerged from the rest. Hecuba played by Abriana QuiГ±ones
was breathtakingly wonderful in capturing the audience when expressing the heartache of losing
Troy. The weeping and restlessness was raw and authentic. Andromacheplayed by Bess Lawson

What Is The Controversy Of Capital Punishment
The much debated controversy of Capital Punishment
Many people question the need for the death penalty, the execution of those who have committed
certain crimes, as a capital punishment. For instance, the author of Against the American System of
Capital Punishment , Jack Greenburg, who is a Professor of Law at Columbia University, argues
that the death penalty does not benefit society and is not necessary. Likewise, Kevin Johnson,
writer of Study Finds No Evidence Death Penalty Deters Crime , also argues against the use of the
death penalty by pointing out the flaws in the common research of deterrence. On the other hand,
some may also argue for the many aids the death penalty offers. Professor of Jurisprudence and
Public Policy at Fordham University, Ernest Van den Haag, with his The Ultimate Punishment: a
Defense , and authors James M. Reams and Charles T. Putnam, with their article, Making a Case for
the Deterrence Effect of Capital Punishment , both give arguments for the grander justice the death
penalty offers. While each of these articles give very well thought out claims for the necessity of the
death penalty, using arguments including racism, and deterrence, Van den Haag s claim gives the
clearest and best arguments. When confronted with racism being involved with the death ... Show

justice that is outlined in Van den Haag s argument. Van den Haag s overall claim that racism has

goal: misdistribution is irrelevant because justice has been established. This is significant to making
his argument superior because he focuses on the overall purpose of the death penalty rather than its

Avatar Movie Analysis
Avatar is a blockbuster film from 2009 and one of my most favorite Sci fi films of all time. The
film was directed by James Cameron, who is known for directing films like Titanic (1997), Aliens
(1986), and the Terminator (1984), all of which helped shape the film industry into what it is today.
Although at the time, there was a recession and people were trying to save money, this movie
became the highest grossing film in at the time. The movie provided stunning 3D technology unlike
any other movie and this was one of the reasons that made people want to go watch the film. From
visual effects to the camera angles, James Camerondirected this movie to make the audience feel
like they are in the movie. Although the film looked amazing, there were messages and themes
inside the film that made it such a success. The film provoked discussions about various messages
and themes embedded inside the film, such as terrorism, Imperialism, religious connections, and
connections to current world. Such messages can be clearly seen throughout the plot of the movie.
The plot of the movie is very simple, it takes place the future, where humans are looking to other
planets for resources and this is a very likely future of the current human race because Earth is
limited on resources and as we run out of resources we will have to look towards other planets for
resources. Jake Sully, the main protagonist of the film, is a former U.S. Marine who is paralyzed

or she advises the Queen , however this is only a suggestion, she isn t obliged. This is a rather
inadequate factor as the Monarch has Royal Prerogative , a privilege of entitlement in appointing
whoever she wishes to fulfil this role. As Harold Nicolson wrote in 1952 When the head of a
Government resigns, or is defeated in Parliament , the choice of his successor devolves upon the
King alone . Although the Queen can lawfully select anybody she wishes, this is overruled by
constitutional conventions, a set of rules which guide her in this process. On June 23rd,2016 the
results of the referendum called by David Cameron, changed the political landscape of England.
David Cameron, former Prime Minister led the campaign to remain during the referendum, however
he was unsuccessful and an incumbent Prime Minister. Thus he had to resign, The Prime Minister
resigned on Friday 24th June . Theresa May... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason being is that she commanded a handsome amount of support in both rounds of her party
s vote. Her final contender Andrea Leadson left the race, leaving only Theresa May standing. The
Conservative party was left without a leader and due to Theresa May being a more cogent and
experienced politician than the other candidates , she was unequivocally the most suitable
candidate for the role of the Prime Minister. This displays that this process was equal and at no
point was it uncandid. Respectfully Westminster have remained democratic throughout the difficult
circumstances relating to the resignation of David

Comparing Imagery in Frost s Acquainted with the Night...
Imagery in Frost s Acquainted with the Night and Sexton s Her Kind
In order to maximize meaning and overall total effect of a piece of work, writers use various
literary devices. These techniques enhance the author s work and add a dimension that results in
higher reader satisfaction. Throughout the poems I have read this quarter thus far, I have
discovered the use of imagery as a prominent source of literary embellishment. In particular the
image of night is used in poems Acquainted with the Night, written by Robert Frost, and Her Kind,
written by Anne Sexton, to portray a dark and lonely tone. All through both poems there is a dark
feeling due to word selection and associations to evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Her Kind, by Anne Sexton, the same feeling of loneliness is achieved through
association with the night. The image of night has the same quality of being rejected by society,
and outcast because of the disconnection with people. Night is seen by the world as a time to
sleep and be within ones own thoughts and dreams. For the speaker to be up and about signifies
that she is alone while the world sleeps. Therefore she must be lonely. Using night as the setting
but not totally describing every little detail, creates a sense of unknown. The witch in this case is
spooky and misunderstood and is unable to participate in daily activities so she must take shelter
of the night in order to do her evil business. Night allows the concept of a witch to take its full
affect. Witches are almost always associated with the night. Especially when it is a wicked witch.
Witches are ugly so they must travel at night

Growing a Garden in Death of a Salesman
Growing a Garden
In Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller uses motifs and symbols to express some of the problems
of the main character, Willy. Miller motivates Willy to start a garden in the backyard of his
apartment, even though the garden won t grow. This showed Willy to be the type who does not
accept defeat, as he believes he can grow a garden, but to the reader, it s obvious that he can t.
Although filled with the desire to grow a garden in order to start anew, Willy is unable to do so
due to his apartment and his thoughts. To start off, Willy s inability to grow a garden is majorly
due to the environment his apartment is placed in. In this story, the apartment is a tool of
symbolism used to develop the idea of the modern world. The apartment that blocks the sun into
his backyard limits Willy s ability to grow a garden. This modern society shadows over his house,
keeping the sun away, also keeping him in the past. This leads to the way the modern world is run,
and because it is different than what Willy can handle, he cannot adapt to modern society. The
modern world restricts Willy from starting anew, but the irony being that not only does Willy not
have the money to move on from his house and into a place where he could grow a garden, he
simply doesn t want to. He wishes to stay, but needs money to pay off the house. His lack of
money is expressed as Linda mentions for him not to forget to ask for a little advance (53). What
Linda is referring to is that Willy

Elijah Short Stories
Elijah thought today would be special, he always had a sixth sense about those things. He knew
when a sailor would return from the dock when he worked, with a new tale of adventure and
when a new shipment came. And because of that Elijah hurried off from his room to get to the
dock early that morning, so he could figure out exactly what was making him feel so excited
subconsciously. He grabbed that morning s paper for his boss, an extra task he did in the morning
because Jared so hated extra social interaction. Then treated himself to half a fresh loaf of breadat
the farmers market. He had had a very good month taking jobs in addition to graveyard shifts at
the moore, if he kept up he might be able to rent the room for a month or so instead of paying
nightly. Elijah was very new to paying for his own board, his parents only passing... Show more

What no! I m a londonite of course I just need to get you to Lasawn and they ll explain the whole

What s a Lasawn? Cried Elijah
You know? London s assassins, spies, and what not Tory said as he quickly paced out of the alley

Only a homeless man stood near, He shook the lantern 3 times and shooner appeared in the distance.
Elijah stood near and cried out How the He started Trick of the light. Tory explained briefly be

  • 2. Literary Analysis Of Theodore Dreiser s An American Tragedy Theodore Dreiser s, An American Tragedy is a prime example of how social tensions between the rich and the poor and the vicious need to rise to the top can lead to abandonment. The protagonist, Clyde Griffiths is filled with the willingness to rise far above and looks down upon his peers. After being represented and invited to see the luxurious ways of the rich Clyde decides to abandon loose threads that can threaten his rise to the top. Clyde is easily influenced by others which later on leads to his downfall. Clyde was never born into the luxurious way of the rich. Infact throughout his life with his parents, Asa and Elvira Griffiths, who are religious people, have moved from city to city often having difficulty providing food for their children. Even though the Griffiths have taught their children moral values this has not stopped Clyde from being tempted to live like his peers. Clyde s first influential encounter with people his age was when he started working at the Green Davidson as a bellhop where he had become acquainted to fancy places such as restaurants. At this time he had become vicious in making himself look good in order to fit in with his peers and became obsessed in dressing well and following norms that people of his age were doing such as learning how to dance and going to social events. Clyde now having been introduced to the luxurious ways became even more obsessed after being introduced to his uncle Samuel Griffiths. Samuel Griffiths owns a Shirt and ... Iago scoffs at Othello s trust in him and shows intention of deceit: The Moor is of a free and open nature, That thinks men honest that but seem to be so, And will as tenderly be led by the nose As asses are. (Othello, I.iii.442 445) Iago insults Othello by comparing him to a submissive donkey, and he displays an intent of deceiving Othello in this simile. Lear s pride, like Othello s, causes him to trust others who plan on deceiving him. Two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, gain Lear s trust through their flattering formalistic love speeches by playing into his pride and boosting his self image. Lear is unsuspecting of the daughters plot against him, and the two go on to take advantage of their father s poor judgment. Lear trustingly divides his kingdom between them, giving up his power and entrusting his well being into the hands of these malicious characters. Goneril ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you don t know what an anchor is, in the simplest terms, it s an external stimulus that creates a consistent internal response. For example, it s like when you hear a special love song, and it makes you think about your partner in a romantic way. That s just one example of many different kinds of anchors. Anchors can be set via any, and or all, of our 5 senses, meaning visually, auditorilly, kinestheticlly (meaning touch), smell, and or taste. One of many great ways to create a powerful anchor is to gently touch your partner s ear, or ears (some like tongue, some don t, but almost all like a very very soft touch) during peak emotional and physical experiences. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Testing and diagnosing an ectopic pregnancy is actually difficult, because an answer to the problem is not always clear cut, nor is it always available right away. The hCG levels in the woman s body may be tested to check the rate of increase in them over the pregnancy. They normally double about every two days in anormal pregnancy. But this alone is not a conclusive indicator of an ectopic pregnancy. An ultrasound is frequently used, along with vaginal ultrasound to try to visualize the pregnancy and the position of the baby. If a uterine (normal) pregnancy is confirmed then the chance of an ectopic pregnancy is extremely rare. Sometimes it is too early to diagnose an ectopic via ultrasound, and the exam has to be repeated. If the ectopic pregnancy is visualized, on the other hand, then the couple will proceed to treatment options available depending on their situation. Sometimes in urgent situations a laparoscopy procedure will be done to provide both the diagnosis and the treatment. This is done in an operating room as a surgery. If the patient does have an ectopic, the procedure is surgically treated at that time. The two main types of treatment are chemical and surgical. He is known as a poet, playwright and actor, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language. While many people might know a thing or two about Shakespeare, does anyone stop to think about what the world was like around him? What kind of trials and tribulations did the people of that Era have to face? What type of people did Shakespearian productions attract? The book, Shakespeare s Restless World, answers these questions by using the history behind certain objects from this era. Within the book, there are different objects that represent events or people who surrounded Shakespeare, such as, the Stratford Chalice represents political and religious controversy, the brass handed iron fork from the rose theatre represents the audience, and the failed flags for Great Britain represent political controversy. Or maybe a movie that has an interesting trailer, but the actual film as a whole was not as good as it appeared to be. Instead of judging at first glance, one should first investigate and then make a decision after their analysis. In Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary Maloney is a kind housewife this sweet who loves her husband dearly, but changes to a bitter and angry widow after her husband leaves her. In The Possibility of Evil, Miss Strangeworth appears to be a kind elderly lady, but behind close doors, she is the complete opposite. This play was written by Ellen McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s Department of Theatre and Dance. The cruel effects of war on the world is evident; however, most forget about the heartache women behind the scenes experience. McLaughlin wrote a moving script that portrays the struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry displayed an emphasis on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women was not a play for all types of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the viewer. Personally, this play is not one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and the direction tied together interestingly to make this production. Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between women that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through their actions as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles complimented with unique performers emerged from the rest. What Is The Controversy Of Capital Punishment The much debated controversy of Capital Punishment Many people question the need for the death penalty, the execution of those who have committed certain crimes, as a capital punishment. For instance, the author of Against the American System of Capital Punishment , Jack Greenburg, who is a Professor of Law at Columbia University, argues that the death penalty does not benefit society and is not necessary. Likewise, Kevin Johnson, writer of Study Finds No Evidence Death Penalty Deters Crime , also argues against the use of the death penalty by pointing out the flaws in the common research of deterrence. Professor of Jurisprudence and Public Policy at Fordham University, Ernest Van den Haag, with his The Ultimate Punishment: a Defense , and authors James M. Reams and Charles T. The central focus of this essay is to understand the common process of appointing the Prime Minister, interpreting how Theresa May was selected and to comprehend as to whether or not this process was fair. Traditionally, the leader of the political party that can control a majority in the House of Commons, shall be appointed Prime Minister. When a Prime Minister resigns, he or she advises the Queen , however this is only a suggestion, she isn t obliged. This is a rather inadequate factor as the Monarch has Royal Prerogative , a privilege of entitlement in appointing whoever she wishes to fulfil this role. As Harold Nicolson wrote in 1952 When the head of a Government resigns, or is defeated in Parliament , the choice of his successor devolves upon the King alone . Although the Queen can lawfully select anybody she wishes, this is overruled by constitutional conventions, a set of rules which guide her in this process. Although filled with the desire to grow a garden in order to start anew, Willy is unable to do so due to his apartment and his thoughts. To start off, Willy s inability to grow a garden is majorly due to the environment his apartment is placed in. In this story, the apartment is a tool of symbolism used to develop the idea of the modern world. The apartment that blocks the sun into his backyard limits Willy s ability to grow a garden. This modern society shadows over his house, keeping the sun away, also keeping him in the past. This leads to the way the modern world is run, and because it is different than what Willy can handle, he cannot adapt to modern society. The modern world restricts Willy from starting anew, but the irony being that not only does Willy not have the money to move on from his house and into a place where he could grow a garden, he simply doesn t want to.
