Georgia O Keeffe Essay
Georgia O Keeffe
The meaning of a word to me is not as exact as the meaning of a color. Colors and shapes make a
more definite statement than words. I write this because such odd things have been done about me
with words. I have often been told what to paint. I am often amazed at the spoken and written
word telling me what I have painted. I make this effort because no one else can know how my
paintings happen. Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I
have done with where I have been that should be of interest.
Georgia O Keeffe
Georgia O Keeffe is one of the most influential artists there is today. Her works are valued highly
and are quite beautiful and unique. As a prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The size of the bloom relative to a human really reflected the relative importance of nature and
mankind in the artist s eyes. Georgia O Keeffe painted everything from lilies, jonquils, daisies,
irises, sweet peas, morning glories, poppies, forget me nots, marigolds, poinsettias, orchids,
sunflowers, petunias, marigolds, and many more were reborn in her paintings. O Keeffe wasn t
happy because people looked at her paintings and tried to see them in the way of a female. She said,
Well I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower
you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower
as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t. She did not like the idea
that people thought she painted the way she did because she was a female. She painted that way
because that was how she saw things. The flowers that she created epitomize her growth, success,
magnetism, and energy at that certain stage in her career. Her choice to paint these flowers was
influenced by her early training, natural attraction to flowers, and the idea of something fresh and
fragile.
Close observations of O Keeffe s flowers show that she never really pursued the realistic approach.
She didn t paint every petal and detail. Instead she gave her flowers a life of their own, and
expression that changed significantly

Thunder and Early Scientific Theory Essay
Thunder and Early Scientific Theory
It lends its name to one of the most common weather phenomenon on Earth the thunderstorm and
its associated elements: the thunderhead, thunder cloud, thunder bolt, thundershower and thunder
clap. Early humans believed thunder came from the deities the voice and expression of their god(s).
The roster of thunder gods includes: Thor of the Scandinavians, Donar of the Germans, Zeus of the
Greeks, Jupiter of the Romans, Taranis of the Celts, Perkunis of the Slavs, Indra of the Indians and
Shango of the Nigerian Yoruba. Each is know to throw thunderbolts or bundles of lightning at the
earth while their voices reverberates across the heavens.

They both believed that air smashing against the clouds caused thunder and, as the air struggled its
way through the clouds, it kindled a flame which was lightning.
Anaxogoras (ca 499 427 BC), however, believed that thunder resulted when fire flashing through
clouds (lightning) was quenched by the water in the cloud. Democritus (ca 460 370 BC), on the
other hand, suggested that thunder and lightning were due to the unequal mixing of particles
within clouds which caused violent motions, the resulting sound of which was thunder.
Aristotle (384 322 BC), in his series of essays entitled Meteorologica (written around 334 BC),
wrote that thunder occurs when
the dry exhalation that gets trapped when the air is in the process of colliding is forcibly ejected as
the clouds condense and in its course strikes the surrounding clouds, and the noise caused by the
impact is what we call thunder...similarly the windy exhalations in the clouds produces thunder
when it strikes a dense cloud formation. Different kinds of sound are produced because of the lack
of uniformity in the clouds and because hollows occur where their density is not continuous.
He also wrote that, in general,
the ejected winds burns with a fine and gentle fire and it is then what we call lightning, which
occurs when the falling wind appears to

Viral Respiratory Tract Infections ( Vrtis )
Introduction
Viral respiratory tract infections (VRTIs) are the most common illness in humans according to
Fendrick (2004). Acute respiratory infections kill approximately 4 million people per year.
Approximately half of these respiratory infections are due to viruses. Respiratory infections are one
of the top causes of mortality throughout the world. In many developing nations they are the major
cause of death in young children (WHO 2013). Often referred to as the common cold, the term
upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is used to describe acute viral infections involving upper
airway structures including the nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchi.
Viruses cause most URIs, with rhinovirus, parainfluenza ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Because URTIs are primarily viral use of antibiotics is not recommended.
According to Fendrick (2004) there are 110 million physician visits and 23.2 million physician
telephone calls in the United States yearly regarding VRTI and an estimated 6 million emergency
department visits for the cold occur annually. 69% of those with colds will self medicate with an
over the counter (OTC) product, they receive an estimated 41 million unnecessary prescriptions for
antibiotics at a cost of 1.1 billion dollars annually and spend 400 million on prescriptions for
symptomatic therapies annually. Additionally Americans spend almost 3 billion annually on OTC
medications for relief of symptoms related to URIs.
According to WHO (2010) up to 60% of people with viral upper respiratory tract infections
receive antibiotics inappropriately and the overuse of antibiotics increases antimicrobial resistance.
Antimicrobial resistance may extend illnesses and also increase the length of stay and number of
hospital admissions. The associated costs of this resistance is estimated to be approximately 4 to 5
billion dollars in the United States each year and approximately 9 billion euros per year in Europe.
Peterson (2007) states that one possible reason for continued high rates of antibiotic prescribing for
viral illness is patient expectation of receiving a prescription for antibiotics and fears that
complications will

They Live Movie Analysis
In the movie They Live, I observed many different types of mise en scene. To me the most
obvious form of mise en scene is the sunglasses. A piece of mise en scene is discovered when the
main character puts on the sunglasses, and the theme of the movie is finally revealed to the
viewers. In the beginning of the movie the space aspect is revealed to the audience because as a
viewer you figure out the setting of the film. These are just two of the many examples of mise en
scene that are presented throughout the movie.
The film s mise en scene reveals the character and his personality traits early in the movie. We
visually see the main character first in the movie walking through a city looking for a job. This
noticeable mis en scene at this time of the movie gives us information about the main character that
gives the viewers a wider range of information that would not have been known without the mis en
scene.
The movie s mise en scene tries to shape our feelings by contrasting the two opposite societies.
The movie makes the audience feel like we are a part of the movement to help stop the elite
society from conforming the rest of the world to their ways. The visual information helps shape
its viewer s feelings to make us feel like we should be against the conformant, and the movie did a
good job of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lighting is what grabbed my attention in the movie. When the sunglasses weren t being used
the lighting was high key because it was bright and colorful. On the other hand, when the main
character is wearing the sunglasses the lighting changes from high key to low key. The only colors
that are seen while the main character has the sunglasses on is black and white. This gives the
movie a dull look, but without this visual element I don t think that the movie would have been able
to represent the huge different between the two different worlds in the

Goal Setting for Academic Success
29 November 2010 Goal Setting for Academic Success Goals are like road maps; they get a
person from one point to another. Goals provide the direction one needs to reach a destination.
The best way to get results is to plan for the future, but live one day at a time. Think about the
future; how does one define success? What makes one happy? What drives a person? What makes
a person get out of bed in the morning? Does success mean family, money, security, helping others,
improving the environment, solving problems, a career, or a degree? Whatever a student decides,
the key to academic success is to strengthen one s will to succeed and to do this one must set

By conditioning, the student will be able to follow this map created as if life depends on it
because in a way it does. This is the student s future and they should take it very seriously (Carter
et al. 100). Putting academic strategies into action is to achieve a desired goal. Prepare daily,
weekly, monthly, and yearly; action plans are your set of directions to achieve academic goals.
Things to remember to include in a plan of action is time management, which would include how
much time is spent studying everyday; where the student will study, who the student will study
with, and how the student will avoid distractions. Keeping assignments and important dates
organized in a planner is very important. The student will then be able to refer to it on a daily. A
student must also take into consideration negativity and how to avoid it, assuring that the short
term goals are being met successfully. The student should be encouraged even if they don t succeed
at first to try again. The student may struggle at first deciding and committing to academic goals,
but that doesn t mean they can t go back and revise academic plans. It s important to note that in the
beginning of the post secondary experience; academically the student should start out simple but be
concise. If the student is undecided on a major but still has to find classes to take, conquering the

Comparing The Scottsboro Trials And The Salem Witch Trials
In 1931, in Scottsboro, Alabama, nine young black men were charged with raping two white
women. They were tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. While the death sentences were
overturned by the Alabama Supreme Court, the Scottsboro boys still served an average of ten
years in prison for a crime that they didn t commit. While the Scottsboro trials took place over
200 years after the Salem Witch Trials, the circumstances surrounding both cases are extremely
similar. One way in which the Scottsboro Trials and the Salem Witch Trials are similar is that in
both cases, the accused parties were eventually proven to be innocent. In the Scottsboro Trials, all
of the nine accused young men were later found to be innocent. In April 2013, the governor of
Alabama officially pardoned the Scottsboro Boys and exonerated them of any wrong doing. In
1711, the colony of Salem restored the rights and innocence of those accused during the Salem
Witch Trials. Even though both of the accused parties seemed guilty to the people of both

money from her uncle, Reverend Parris, and disappeared. The evidence that the accused were
witches was based on the testimony of the young girls of the town, mainly Abigail Williams. The

The Worst Time Of My Life
Tissues boxes, and powerade bottles cover my floor as I lie in my bed wishing it would be over.
It hurts to move and even worse when I try to lay on my left side, I hate having to bear through
the pain but, I had no choice. Most kids would like to stay home from school every once in a
while maybe because they don t want to go to school or because they re sick. Some would pay to
be sick and stay home a day or two but, me on the other hand I can t just stay a day or two; I
usually stay weeks because I always have it bad but this year had to be the worst time of my life.
Every year it would always come in the winter time, the worst time to be sick honestly. The
coughing always comes first I usually don t think nothing of it but then I receive a stuffy nose
that finds its way to make me sneeze and sound congested. However, the last time I got sick was
a little bit more than an average cold. It was Late January early February, I started to get the
simple signs of a cold right after basketball season. I stayed home just one day since my body
started to ache with every moment I made. I went back to school but my health was just getting
worse and worse every day I went to school. After that my mom thought it was probably the flu
or maybe strep throat so I went to the doctor that following week hoping we could get the answer
to our questions. When I went to the doctors they called me back so they could run all the possible

Stereotypes In The Lion King
Films serve as a means of communication and are composed of millions of different elements that
form a narrative. Also, they use original techniques to deliver messages in ways that the creator
wants them to deliver. Usually, children s films contain a variety of implicit messages, because the
language should be simple, and in turn, it should contain fun elements. However, one of the best
ways to create stereotypes in cultureis the use of children s movies, because people build their
personality and critical thinking in their first years of life. An example of this is the movie The
Lion King, where the characters are animals, but also each one plays a role of a human being
within a society. This filmshows a patriarchal and sexist society, where men have all the power not
only in government but also within their own family; women, by contrast, have a secondary role
always being focused on the service of men and their children. It also has an implicit... Show more

The lionesses are excellent hunting, but although they are stronger than lions, they are stripped
of the ability to govern. Nala, the little lioness that is shown as a stronger female with a firm
character who wins all fights against Simba, is the perfect example of why the lioness is
essential to the survivor of the pride. Moreover, from the beginning of the film, the wife of
Mufasa, Sarabi is forgotten. She is only mentioned a few times in order to demonstrate that their
role is to serve, as Mufasa expressed when he said to her, At dawn, he is your son . Even when
Simba is thought to be dead, his mother is not presented to show concern or sadness, which
would be the natural reaction of a mother. In addition, Sarabi is a lioness but she does not shine.

All criminal s first offenses should automatically be sentenced to a rehabilitation facility. Jail is
going to do nothing but aggravate the offender. Sending them to treatment can possibly change
their mindset and mentality. In order to put this plan into effect, we will need approval of
higher authorities to build these facilities. The biggest concern will be the cost of the projects,
but overall it will benefit the community greatly. In retrospect, these treatment facilities will
actually cost less to care for the patients than they would if they were initially placed in a jail or
prison cell. One full year of methadone maintenance treatment is approximately $4,700 per
patient, whereas one full year of imprisonment costs approximately $24,000 per person (

lined up upper teeth which are in sequent, he is in a cheerful position. Face lines limits the above

the high energy period of time during twenties. Lively brushwork on copper makes the artwork

Thinner brush is used for sketching curve lines blending together which resonance with not stable
emotional state during early adulthood. The focal point is his lips as they are painted in a warmer
color. In addition to lips, the forehead and hair style are emphasized. Rembrandt deliberately has

Mining into Devastation
Introduction
Mining affects the lives of millions of Americans every day. Although the United
States has a large amount of coal remaining to be mined and burned, almost three fourths of the
public land in America has been declared off limits for mining. Mountaintop mining is a relatively
new form of surface mining that has steadily gained popularity. The debate as to whether or not this
process is an economic necessity or environmental disaster for Kentuckians is the question.
Undoubtedly, it is an environmental disaster and it should be removed in every state that they are
using it not to mention the health hazards. One report found states, Although dozens of new coal
burning power plants are planned or under construction, the latest coal boom is meeting resistance
from critics who want to shift the U.S. economy toward cleaner fuels. Even if electricity from coal
is cheaper than other sources, they argue, the savings are far outweighed by its environmental and
health impacts (Isabella, 2013).

The Impact Of Low Socioeconomic Status On Health
The social determinants of health influences an individual s risk behaviours, their environmental
exposures and their access to resources to promote health. The social determinants refer to factors
of an individual s level of education and income, their occupation, their standard of housing, food
and water quality, air pollution levels, and the resources available to them. Studies have highlighted
a strong relationship between low socioeconomic statusand low health status which for an
individual may persist from birth, childhood, adulthood, elderly and may persist into the next
generation.
Study author Silvia Stringhini said Reducing poverty, improving education and creating safe home,
school and work environments are central to overcoming the impact of socioeconomic deprivation.
By doing this, socioeconomic status could be targeted and improved, leading to better wealth and
health for many. (Source: Huffington Post Title: Low socioeconomic status affects life expectancy

New Zealand based doctor Martin Tobias also said there was no one issue that meant people from
low socioeconomic groups were more likely to be unwell.
Having low social rank means being powerless to determine your own destiny, deprived of material
resources, and limited in the opportunities open to you, which shapes both your lifestyle and your
life chances, Tobias said. (Source: Huffington Post Title: Low socioeconomic status affects life

Essay On Dante s Inferno
See no Evil. Hear no Evil. Do no Evil.
Trapped up to his waist in ice, Dante s Satan with his warped wings pushes freezing gusts of air
throughout the caverns of the ninth circle of hell. With him, the worst of all sinners are warped
into fantastical shapes while encased in the frigid ice. They are the betrayers of love, the godly
ideal of voluntary benefaction, and now must spend eternity without warmth or light. Nothing is
felt; by being a traitor to their state or their benefactor, they have lost their right to God s love,
condemned in the center of the Earth.
I admire Satan in this situation the rejected angel thrown deep into Hell because of his power over
his realm. His wings freeze the ice and trap both him and the sinners within it, and his heads, a
warped holy trinity, continually chew on the three apparently worst humans in history: Judas,
Cassius, and Brutus. Thrust into this duty of penultimate torturer, Satan delivers the worst
treatment of all of the sins because he too is deserving of it. The power of reciprocal judgment
would be the greatest way to force me to become a perfect human. With this, I would be willing to
give up my sense of touch, as those surrounding Satan must also do. ... Show more content on

Emergency Plumbing Services Case Study
How to Find Emergency Plumbing Services Five Questions to Ask
It is common for homeowners to put plumbing issues in the back of their mind, until emergency
plumbing services are needed. In an emergency, every second counts, especially in situations,
such as a burst pipe or busted water heater. In emergency situations, it is essential that you hire a
qualified plumber to avoid costly mistakes down the road. The best defense is to have plumbers
in Seattle on hand before a disaster strikes, so in order to protect yourself, here are five questions
to ask before making the decision to hire.
Are You Licensed?
The first question to ask when hiring potential emergency plumbing services, is are you licensed in
Seattle? Not all areas require a license, so if they do not have one, make sure to ask if it is
required. Licensed plumbers in Seattle must pass a test showing they know the current building
codes and they are required to stay up to date on all building code changes. If a license is required
and you hire an unlicensed plumber, the work will be considered illegal, which means the
insurance company will not reimburse you and you may have to pay a fine to the city and/or county.

employees in case of injuries that occur while in your home. Without workers compensation, you
would be responsible for the medical bills and any other associated

Research and statistics discussed in this report are retrieved from Government bodies and peer

The Australian Government developed a national nutrition policy in 2012 2013 to encourage
citizens to lead healthy lives and reduce nutrition related diseases (National Health and Medical
Research Council [NHMRC], 2013) such as obesity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Good
nutrition equates to a healthy life, a study into the global burden of disease reported that 15% of
global disease was caused by lack of nutrition, in Australia in 2003, 2.1% of the burden of disease
was attributed to lack of consumption of fruit and vegetable (NHMRC, 2013). The Australian
dietary guidelines states, evidence shows that a diet high in nutritional quality consistent with
national dietary guidelines reduces the risk of death and disease (NHMRC, 2013). Nutrition is such
an important aspect of our lives that it is now taught in our schools and forms part of most
educational policies such as the Melbourne Declaration, National Quality Standards and also in the
Australian Curriculum. The Melbourne Declaration states that it is important all students develop a
sense of self awareness and self worth that allows them to make decisions in relation to their
physical well being and are provided with knowledge and understanding that allows them to
establish and maintain healthy lives (MEECYA, 2009), providing students with information in
relation to the importance of nutrition will ensure these goals are met. Vince Whitman (2001, cited
in Sorhaindo Feinstein 2006 ) stated at the 1990 World Conference on Education for All: Meeting

important factor in the development both physically mentally and behaviourally for school aged

Metamorphosis Analysis
Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis is about the dehumanization of a man named Gregor, when he
wastes his life monotonously repeating the same task every day to support his uncaring family. The
lack of purpose in his life is an example of absurdist fiction, a genre of fictional narrative that uses
satire and irrationality to explore the human experience of meaninglessness. Furthermore, The
Metamorphosisuses aspects of magical realism, such as transformation of common, distortion of
time and loss of identity, featured in other magical realism works such as Axolotl and The
Handsomest Drowned Man in the World . Kafka s The Metamorphosis has both absurdist fiction
and magical realism traits, therefore, should not only be classified as... Show more content on

His dad was an abusive father and businessman, Kafka s siblings represented Gregor s sister and
his mother was the only who cared and supported him. Satire and the irrationality of life are key
aspects of The Metamorphosis and are what makes it absurdist fiction.
Kafka utilizes distortion of time, an element of magical realism in The Metamorphosis to show
how Gregor is losing touch with humanity, similar to how Julio Cortazar uses it in Axolotl .
Distortion of time shows the reader that the way Gregor lives in his world is different from the
way we live ours, Magical realism...tells its stories from the perspective of people who live in our
world and experience a different reality from the one we call objective (Rogers 1). Time is absent
in The Metamorphosis , Often he just lay there the long nights without sleeping at all, scrabbling
for hours on the leather. (112) this is significant because it shows how Gregor after turning into an
insect, experiences reality differently. Before turning into an insect, Gregor s only purpose in life
was to support his family and did not need to keep track on time. After his transformation, because
he could not support his family anymore, he lost his purpose in life; without being able to use his
time to support his family, he could only sit around and rot. Kafka adjusts the flow of time to show
the reader the perspective of a man with no purpose. Axolotl is similar in this fashion, being in the

The Tell Tale Heart Human Instinct
The bases of human instinct are profound into its history and encounters. At the point when in
people s own particular lives they are to discover the premise of human instinct, they should look to
their infant years, the developmental years. Presently take for instance in the event that an infant is
in the wild or in high class, all around mannered, affluent family. The humaninstinct of the infant in
the wild will be precisely that, wild and riotous. While then again the infant in the all around

More often than not there is an obscure parity and the wickedness is quelled; be that as it may,
when there is a movement, for reasons unknown, the dim or insidiousness side of human instinct
can surface. In human nature often times a person wants to rid their conscious of ill thoughts
often times by committing violent acts. In The Tell Tale Heart, the storyteller chooses to kill
this pulse. He plans to execute his thoughts of the eye, I made up my mind to take the life of the
old man and thus rid myself of the eye forever (Poe 1843). The storyteller is threatened by the
conferred ethics of the old man. This can be reached out into the bigger representation of the
contention in mankind and the conferred profound quality of the heart inside. Mankind in strife
with itself shows a mystery; is this inner voice regular, as well as the restriction to it, is
additionally common. Humans often value their picture and practical status is more vital than
their honesty. Poe sets up his stories in the space between the assurance of brutality in
humankind and the questionable way of where this savagery originates from. In The Tell Tale
Heart, the wrongdoing itself is portrayed in computed subtle element for the reader to appreciate,
yet the setting, inspiration, and general work are covered up. The Tell Tale Heart displays a
novel affirmation that the value of other s opinion exists; How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and
observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1843). Here the narrator is
trying to prove to the readers that he is not insane. He would rather tell the readers that he is sane
and have them on his side rather than proving he is not insane. Human instinct includes focusing on
insignificant things, in the narrator s case, an eyeball. Putting his potential franticness aside, the
narrator focuses on the old man, and how angry he was with him over something as absurd as his

Muscle Electromyography Analysis
A muscle is composed of multiple individual muscle fibers that are organized in a motor unit that is
innervated by a single motor neuron. The motor neuron is responsible for propagating an action
potential resulting in the muscle fibers in the motor unit contracting. An electromyography (EMG)
is able to detect the depolarization of the musclefibers, characterizing an action potential, and help
quantify the number of active fibers and the magnitude of force. We hypothesize that the triceps
will be activated more for movements involving supination with and without elbow extension than
during reverse and regular curls as indicated by values from the EMG. We tested the hypothesis by
connecting two surface level electrodes to the triceps and

My Favorite Character In The Taming Of The Shrew
Taming of the shrew and 10 things I hate about you assignment.
Who is your favourite character?
My favourite character in the taming of the shrew is tranio because although he is not a antagonist
like petruchio, lucentio or the sisters he is the character that the play relies on. The plot of the
taming of the shrew consists of a man named petruchio marrying a woman named Katherine so
that another man named lucentio can marry Katherines younger sister Bianca. Tranio is a great
help to this play by convincing lucentio to go and find some girls in the first place and he also
convinces the sisters father babtista that he is lucentio so that lucentio can follow his love
Bianca. Tranio does not marry by the end of the play although he is a great help to lucentio
giving him great ideas during his peruse of love like convincing him to pretend to be a teacher
named Cambio to get closer to Bianca. The reason I like tranio best is because he is very selfless
and devoted to lucentio and his plans.
2. Write a love poem or sonnet from the perspective of Petruchio. (100 words)
Katherine my dearest,
You are to me as fish are to the sea, swimming and wading let our love never start fading. We will
live together as we age, we will never break after any rage, we will only grow stronger like a steel
cage. I am sorry for any damage that will be done, I knew our love would sprout after our
relationship had begun, I just hope we never stop having fun. Katherine my feelings for you are
unexplainable, if my feelings for you were words they would be unattainable, Katherine let our love
never be detainable for I will never hold you down. I will only let you have what you need and if
you need me then I will let you roam free, free in our free love as we are prisoners being let free
leaving our chain, embracing our pain and joining each other in forevermore.
Sincerely petruchio.
3. Is Taming of the shrew a sexist play? (200 words)
I believe that the taming of the shrew was an early adaption of a feminists story. There are
sometimes subtle and hidden hints in the taming of the shrew that point out to feminists and sexist
topics. Some of these topics are that Katherine before she is made more normal and how a woman

The Absolute Ego
During this paper I will discuss Fichte s ideas on the absolute ego and how it pertains to the idea
of God. I will also discus the similarities and also the differences between Fichte and Smakra as
outlined by Lewis. I will then conclude with my remarks and thoughts upon the subject matter.
Fichte was an idealist. This is the belief that nothing is known to us except ideas. Since this was
the belief of Fichte he avoided dualism and instead believed that only that which is in and for
consciousness can be assumed to exist. Fichte thus proceeded to explain experience as the
product of intelligence in itself. This idea of intelligence in itself is the ego. To understand this
further we must think the wall , once you think the wall then think of the person who thought the
wall, and thus you could go on indefinitely. This shows that no matter how we try to objectify the
self there always remains the pure ego. Furthermore, all can intellectually intuit the pure ego. This
is further explained that anyone who is conscious of an action as his own is aware of himself
acting. Once someone recognizes that an action is their own, the person is able to reflect on their
self consciousness and will realize that they can intuit the pure ego as an infinite activity. The pure
ego itself is not conscious; the pure ego becomes conscious through the philosophers activity
directed towards the pure ego as an activity. Once this occurs the pure ego posits itself. This pure
ego is

Kiss Of The Fur Queen Analysis
In Tomson Highway s novel Kiss of the Fur Queen the opening passage transports the reader to the
harsh, cold, and intense struggle of the caribou hunter, Abraham Okimasis during a championship

Highway utilizes a fantastic variety of literary devices to dramatize Okimasis physical and
emotional experience through his last leg of the raceby creating a powerfully intense atmosphere
through the effective use of descriptive imagery, passionate diction, repetition of words, and a tone
of desperation. To begin with, the author utilizes descriptive vivid imagery to awaken the reader s

Election Ballot Boxes Taken From The Polling Station
The next day on June 13th there were reports of election ballot boxes taken from the polling
station before being counted in front of poll observers. The interior ministry worked to subvert
the idea that there was anything wrong with the vote. However, the people knew differently.
Mousavi asked the interior ministry to allow a demonstration to take place, the answer was no.
The answer of no did not stop the people from still coming out to the streets, they chanted Down
with the dictator The Basij used batons, rubber hoses and cables. Ahmadinejad held a victory
rally at Valiasr Square on Sunday, June 14th and remarked about the protestors as poor losers,
comparing them to having lost a soccer match and that The nation s huge river would not leave
any opportunity for the expression of dirt and dust. The term dirt and dust (khas o khashak) is
now a symbol recognizing reformist activity during the defeat of the Mousavi elections. There
was an article in the Etemad Melli newspaper that showed a picture of a protester holding a sign
stating The Epic of Dust and Dirt which was a reference to Khatami s first landslide victory in
1997 described as the epic of the second of Khordad. The reference to Khatami s theme as the
epic of the second of Khordad is about Khordad 2, 1376 (in the Gregorian calendar May 23, 1997)

cultural traditionalism. During this time the reformist

Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus was bon in 163 B.C. and came from a distinguished family. His

was a woman of wide culture who employed Greek tutors to educate her sons, Tiberius and Gaius.
Two tutors who influenced Tiberius at a young agewere Diophanes, a teacher of oration and
Blossius of Cumae, a philosopher.

The land was to be distributed to roman citizens up to a maximum of 30 iugera who had to pay a

as the majority of large land owners were senators, he alienated himself form them. Gracchus did
not consult the senate regarding this measure and instead brought it before the popular
assembly. His reason for doing so might have been that he believed it would get bogged down in
the senate, as it was a bill directly affecting their finances or perhaps it was because he only had
one year to act and realized the immediate need for reform. However Tiberius had friends in the
senate and it is possible that the bill may have got through if he had followed procedure and if
the senators put the needs of the republic before their own. When the bill was brought before the
Concilium Plebis, it was vetoed by fellow tribune M. Octavius, a large holder of public land. After
pleading with Octavius to withdraw his veto, Tiberius asked the people for the removal of
Octavius as tribune. The people voted in favour of his deposition and elected another tribune who

How Did British Colonization Affect The Development Of The...
Main Idea 1
Seventeenth century Spanish, French, Dutch, and British colonizers embraced different social and
economic goals, cultural assumptions, and folkways, resulting in varied models of colonization.
Spain sought to establish tight control over the process of colonization in the Western Hemisphere
and to convert and/or exploit the native population. French and Dutch colonial efforts involved
relatively few Europeans and used trade alliances and intermarriage with American Indians to
acquire furs and other products for export to Europe. Unlike their European competitors, the English
eventually sought to establish colonies based on agriculture, sending relatively large numbers of
men and women to acquire land and populate their settlements, while having relatively hostile
relationships with American Indians. The British American system of slaverydeveloped out of the
economic, demographic, and geographic characteristics of the British controlled regions of the New
World. Reinforced by a strong belief in British racial and cultural superiority, the British system
enslaved black people in perpetuity, altered African gender and kinship relationships in the colonies,
and was one factor that led the British colonists into violent confrontations with native peoples. The
New England colonies, founded primarily by Puritans seeking to establish a community of like
minded religious believers, developed a close knit, homogeneous society and a thriving mixed
economy of agriculture

Testing For Reducing Prison Rights
The United States government has a high mandatory minimum for first time nonviolent drug
charges. Therefore, offenders stay in the prison system longer and facilities are not able to properly
provide the necessary accommodations to catch up due to the increase of non violent prisoners that
fill the system. According to the article Tests for Reducing PrisonPopulations by Erik Eckholm, one
of the problems is that the United Statesgovernment is trying to come up with better mandatory
sentencing and strengthen the crumbling rehabilitation system for nonviolent prisoners (1). The
Overcrowding of prisons within the United States is an issue that needs to be addressed because
there are too many tax dollars being spent, prison sentences change or do not necessarily fit the
crime, and drug offenders and nonviolent criminals, who need services other than prison time, are
draining the system.
The system sees many of the same habitual drug offenders daily due to some cities not providing
enough resources or programs to keep these habitual offenders out. According to the article The
Prison Problem by David Brooks, politicians are wanting to crack down on criminals to show that
they are tough when it comes to handling our justice system (1). Eckholm supports this in his
article stating that for almost 40 years the U.S. has locked up more people than we ever have in the
history of the United States. This has become the main cause in prison overcrowding (1).The

In the case of Innostat, the main issue on the culture of the organization has led to a bad
productivity and has affected its effectiveness and efficiency. This portrays that Innostat has
overlooked the importance of culture which claims by Schein (2004) as powerful energy for the
organization in order to reach the goals. Hence, Innostat is now struggling to bring back its
innovating edge. By referring to the Burke Litwin Model (1992), it can be seen that there is an
interconnectedness of four factors including leadership, culture, work unit climate and motivation
which the effects will be analyze using the same model shortly. Ultimately, this analysis proposes

This kind of leadership promotes a culture of dependency toward the leader, hence blocks the
growth of creativity, skill and knowledge of the employees. This is supported by the expert, Eckerts
(Beer, 2006) who further states that charismatic leadership style like Jack has lose the creative
energy of the employees. In addition to that, due to this leadership style, it does not promote the
culture of cooperation, teamwork and trust between the top management and employees.
Due to this culture, the work unit climate is affected as well. It can be seen that there is a weak
cross functional collaboration among the departments since Jack s leadership. This is demonstrated
by Jack, who goes directly to R D department for new projects without considering any discussion
with other departments. Therefore, other departments do not functioning at their optimal level
hence, it affects the organization effectiveness. Besides that, it is clear that Innostat employees only
working within their own departments, and prefer to work on their achievements, hence prove that
there is no common goal among them. Apart from that, Jack s opinion on Good ideas don t need
incentives, they need passion (Beer, 2006) is one of the factors that affect the individual and
organizational performance. Jack as a leader does not put much attention on the rewards, hence it

The Importance Of Government
Government is something that every country needs. Without government there would complete
anarchy. Anarchy doesn t work because citizens can t be completely free to do whatever they want.
One of the main reasons that government is a necessity is because the government needs to set in
stone, laws that the citizens must abide to. We need rules and laws in a country, because without
them people would be free to use and take advantage of each other. We also need the government,
because we need to be able to communicate and organize sessions with other countries in order to
resolve conflicts, or talk economics/trading. We the people have always had some form of
government leading us in the United States, and without one we wouldn t know how to handle
situations. It s important for a country to have decently strict immigration laws. Accepting a bunch
of foreigners into the country can actually be risky due to not knowing their previous way of life
or beliefs. The Government must provide several required services to the people. The Government
must provide a well trained police force system to protect everyday citizens from crime. Related to
that subject the government must provide a good court, and jail system to handle possible convicts.
Every country also should have a good education system. The future of each and every country
depends on the younger generation. Another service that the government must provide is a fire
department. Without fire departments many people could lose

There has been much discussion surrounding the name change from Saul to Paul beginning in
Acts chapter 13. It is shown throughout the New Testament after Saul s conversion that he
called himself Paul and only used the name Saul when he referred to incidents that occurred
prior to his conversion. Other commentaries attribute the name change to Saul s desire to not
share the same name with wicked King Saul from the Old Testament who persecuted David,
Jesus ancestor. Many significant people in the Bible were referred to by different names such
as Jesus disciples Matthew (Levi), Simon (Peter), Abraham (Abram), Sarah (Sarai), Jacob
(Israel). The Bible does not offer a reason why Saul changed his name to Paul or indicate whether it
was inspired by God or not. The timing of the change of name leads us to believe it was because of
his conversion and desire to abandon his old nature and walk in the calling God placed on his life.
The Damascus Experience The account of Saul s conversion is such an important theme that it is
reported in three different areas of the book (Acts 9:1 19, Acts 22:4 16 and Acts 26:9 19). Even
though these 3 verses differ in the amount of detail they contain, they all focus on different aspects
of the miraculous encounter. Charles

Smith et al.(1969) treated job satisfaction both as a general attitude and as satisfaction with five
specific dimensions: pay, work, promotion, supervision, and co workers. According to Pareek

about the out¬come of interactions among five components of the organization. These interaction
components are Structure, System, Culture, Leader behaviour, and employees psychological needs.
Allen Meyer, (1990) O Reiily Chatman, (1986) stated The Organizational commitment refers to the

Analysis Of Music In The Ballad Of Gregorio Cortez
Music is sound organized by humans; audible statement that mirrors a way of life or a way of
thinking; a language spoken directly, without translation, between people who understand. In this
class we studied liberal arts, and how it uses general intellectual development rather than opposed
training, to develop a musical analysis of musicsuch as The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez . To develop
an analysis, we group the organization of music into five musical elements rhythm, melody,
harmony, texture, and form, and we find some type of organization or order in these pieces like
pulse and background instruments to help identify these elements. The Ballad of Gregorio
Cortez genre is a corrido, which is a Mexican/ Mexican American popular narrative song and
poetry form. The sorry of the corrido is when Cortina became a Mexican hero when he shot a
deputy/ marshal in the 1850 s for the mistreating one of his mother s young servants. This incident
led to an open conflict with the American authorities. This story represented the struggles that the
people were facing in the region and Cortez s ability to evade capture. This corrido was taken
place in American in Texas along the Mexico border. He was captured for the murders that he
committed and was sentenced to life in prison. The first Musical element that was included in the
class was rhythm. Rhythm is an element of music that deals with the arrangement of sound and

manipulated. Her defense stated that she had no choice but to act as she did. The prosecution
denied her brainwashing claim and said that she was one of their expert witnesses a rebel in
search of a cause. The prosecution emphasized the fact that Hearst had been rebellious prior to
the kidnapping and this was just another act of her rebellion. After a 5week trial, the jury
convicted Hearst of bank robbery. Heart s very famous defense lawyer, F. Lee Bailey, said that
they lost the case for two reasons, the judge improperly allowed evidence into the trial about Hearst
s behavior after the robbery, and the government, the jurors, and many Americans felt that Patty

The Republic Of Niger, A Poor, Landlocked Country Essay
The Republic of Niger, a poor, landlocked country, located in the heart of Sub Saharan West Africa.
Niger has seen its fair share of change throughout the decades; moving away from the control of the
French Parliament in 1960, Niger formally declared its independence. Despite this bold act of
independence, Nigerwould not see its first steps towards democracy until the early 1990 s, when
they held their first open election as a free state. However, even with the empowerment of the
people in a democratic government, Niger has seen itself nearly torn apart as a result constant
coups, that have occurred as recently as 2010. Such instability has led to incredulous amounts of
corruption and poverty, within the Niger government. This lack of stability and constant turnover in
government, has been a driving factor behind the lack of resources available for educationin Niger.
Although education in Niger is free, the country is nearly entirely rural with an unevenly
distributed population. These factors have lead to a lack of schoolbuildings in nearly every part of
Niger, and as a result, Niger has an adult literacy rate of only 28.7%; this being the second lowest
literacy rate in all of Western Africa, trailed only by Burkina Faso (21.8%). Niger s education
system is based on the incredibly successful model of France which consists of: primary school,
secondary school and finally higher education. While this model has been effective for the French,
most children in Niger will

Nutrition Preference And Its Effect On Diet Preference
Introduction:
Every living thing has a diet preference, it just depends how wide or narrow those preferences
are. Diet preference helps determine the genetic make up of an organism, you are what you eat .
The appetite level of an organism can affect diet preference by allowing them to eat something
they wouldn t normally eat. For this same reason, hydration levels of an organism may play a role
in diet preference. Understanding diet preference in a species like humans may seem trivial but not
for something like a house cricket.
House crickets, Acheta domesticus are thought to be endemic to northwest Africa or southwest
Asia (Weismann and Rentz 1977, Ghouri 1961). Currently this species has a near cosmopolitan
distribution, and is typically associated with anthropogenic establishments. Females can be easily
distinguished from males from their ovipositor, which allows them to lay eggs underground.
Crickets are diet generalists and can feed on a variety of plants(revise). Currently there is little
research on what effects hydration levels has on diet preference in crickets. If crickets are given a
choice between kale and iceberg lettuce, crickets that are more dehydrated will visit iceberg lettuce
over kale. Sex may play a factor in this as well. If sex has an effect on number of visits to kale and
iceberg then we should see a difference in visits among males and females.
Methods:
41 crickets, 17 males and 24 females that were obtained from the Petsmart store at El Con

Violent Crimes Vs White Collar Crimes
White Collar Crimes and Violent Crimes and whether or not they should receive the same priority
levels. This discussion question I feel is like comparing apples to oranges. These are two
completely different types of crimes, usually with completely different victims.
White collar crimes are important and can result in a large loss of money or assets. White collar
crimes are often referred to or viewed as victimless crimes. However, this is not the case.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations White Collar Crime website, a white collar
crime scam can do everything from destroying and bankrupting a company, cost a family their
entire life savings, or cost investors billions of dollars, or possibly all three. Scams are extremely
prevalent

The Influences of Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince on...
Richard the Third was a power hungry tyrant, willing to do whatever it took to become the most
powerful man in the land. He lied, schemed, and ran down anyone who stumbled across his
highway to fame and fortune. His exploits, though morally deplorable, were highly successful for
him up until his fateful end. Many of his actions were taken straight from NiccolГІ Machiavelli s
The Prince, which is famous for its hard hearted philosophies on achieving power and ruling.
Richard followed Machiavelli s advice in that he was ruthless and careful to cover his tracks, but
he failed to heed one of his warnings: he made himself unpopular.
Richard was pushed far back in the line to the throne, being a third child and the present King
already having his own heirs. To even have a chance at ruling, his brothers and the oldest brother
s children would have to be killed. Richard saw to this quickly and methodically, as if murdering
family and children were completely natural to him. Near the end he did recognize that what he
had done was a damnable deed, but he consoled himself by saying that it was a neccisary evil for
him to ascend the throne. By using this justification, he was able to kill anyone who he thought was
a threat to his kingship. Machiavelli advised his Prince that if he wanted to gain a position that
didn t belong to him, he would have to be ready to kill the defenders of that space. He warned the
Prince that the deed might anger God, but implied that there was no other way

Gas Price Fluctuation Analysis
A recent price shift that all American drivers have experienced is the constant fluctuations of gas
prices. As I turned 16 in 2013 gas prices were on the rise ranging from $3 $4 across the nation. For
many Americans it caused them to make economical decisions on what vehicle to buy taking on
extra jobs to pay for gas, cutting out vacations because of the high gas expense. During 2013 I
would even struggle filling up my dodge pickup every week and realizing how much money I was
spending just on gas. However, in 2016 prices have decreased to $1 $2 dollars. If we look back on
the history of gas prices we can analyze that reason gas prices change so often is based on the
amount of crude oil. Since oil is the main input for producing gasoline, so if there is a rise in oil
price than gasoline price must rise as well. Many factors go into affecting gas prices, but one
example in particular is the detriment of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One product in Arkansas that is always on high demand are yeti cups. Many stores sell out the
first day they get shipments in causing customers to visit many stores to find the product. A
shortage of product is defined as the amount by which the quantity of demand of a product
exceeds the quantity supplied at a particular price. If I were a manager store where I experienced
a shortage of a high demand item, such as a yeti cup, I would find a different producer or
multiple producer to supply the store with that product. For example since the yeti cup there have
been many similar stainless steal cups that have been produced. These cups are usually a lower
price and have a different brand name, and design. By brining in a yeti competitor this will drive
the demand of the Yeti cup down. Consumers will begin to buy what is available which will satisfy
them decreasing the supply for the yeti and eventually benefit the store because these consumers are
buying form us instead of looking for the cup

Nurse Retention And Retention
Many organizations have realized the key to their effectiveness lies in their ability to recruit and
retain capable nurses. Retention is a process that should be started before a nurse is hired and needs
to be continued until the nurse resigns.
Renewed attention has been directed at retention of nurses in a multigenerational workforce over
the past 10 to 20 years (Palumbo et al., 2009). The turnover rate of a new graduate ranges from
22.6% to 60% in the first year (Mills Mullins, 2008; Van Wyngeeren Stuart, n.d.), the average age
of the nurse is 45 years, and nurses begin to phase into retirement beginning at age 55 years.
In light of these facts, it is little wonder that nursing has begun to focus attention on expand¬ing
retention programs beyond the promotion of job satisfaction, safety, respect, and financial security
plans, and gain sharing (Palumbo et al., 2009) to the development of infrastructure services that
meet the diverse needs of current employees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today more than ever it is imperative that nurses and other health care workers experience a sense
of community in the workplace because many spend more time at work than at any other single
place.
General strategies commonly used for nurse retention of new and experienced nurses are identified
in Box 20 2. According to a study conducted by Palumbo and colleagues (2009), although common
retention expecta¬tions have been identified as important to nurses of all ages, several difference
were noted related to the perceived significance of various retention strategies reported by
generational groups (Box

John Locke s Identification Of Natural Rights Essay
Locke s identification of natural rights John Locke, one of the founders of our great country, had
three natural rights that he believed in life, liberty, and estate. These natural rights still exist today
within the American law. John Locke s identification of natural rights fits well with American law
because John Lockehad a big influence on the shaping of American government and laws. The
extent of libertythat each American has is still the same as when Locke came up with this natural
right. In America, people still get to make their own decisions on their religious views, what
lifestyle they want to live, their political views, and how they act. American people still have the
freedom of liberty to do what they want and make their own choices. As well as liberty American
people all have the natural right to life and that has not changed from Locke s identification of
natural rights. The natural right... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American capitalism still allows for people to privately own businesses and make a profit using
those businesses without being ran by the government or the government having to much of a say
on what the business can and can not do, allowing a free market. The whole economic system in
America is a capitalism system that allows for people to invest, produce, and sell goods and
services in exchange for money. John Locke said Individuals, that is to say, by mixing their labor
with the naturally occurring abundance of the earth (the land, forests, rivers, and so on), were
justified in taking the products of that effort for their own as private property, which is what
America s economic system is a capitalism that John Locke identified. John Locke identified that
with the ability to obtain private property there would be unequal ownership of private property
which also fits with today s capitalism. John Locke s identification of natural rights fits with the

An Analysis Of Amy Tan s Short Story Two Kinds
The Ungrateful Underachiever
The definition of an underachiever as stated by Webster is one (such as a student) that fails to
attain a predicted level of achievement or does not do as well as expected. In the short story Two
Kinds written by Amy Tan, Ni Kan is the queen of underachievers. She determines at a young age to
become defiant to her mom. After experiencing disappointment from letting her mom down, Ni
Kan determined that she would become an underachiever and intentionally failed throughout her
life.
What makes a child determine at such a young age to defy her mom on every hand for the rest of
their life? The sad realization that Ni Kan would rather see her mother angry at her than
disappointed in her became her revelation. Anger meant that she was in control and not her mom.
And then I saw what seemed to be the prodigy side of me a face I had never seen before. I looked
at my reflection, blinking so that I could see more clearly. The girlstaring back at me was angry,
powerful. She and I were the same. I had new thoughts, willful thoughts or rather, thoughts filled
with lots of won ts. I won t let her change me, I promised myself. I won t be what I m not. (2)
This shows the beginning of when Ni Kan realized she was not ever going to become a child
prodigy for her mom.
During the same week when I read the Amy Tan story, I was in the midst of a conflict with my
own mother. I was trying to decide where to attend graduate school after

  • 2. Georgia O Keeffe Essay Georgia O Keeffe The meaning of a word to me is not as exact as the meaning of a color. Colors and shapes make a more definite statement than words. I write this because such odd things have been done about me with words. I have often been told what to paint. I am often amazed at the spoken and written word telling me what I have painted. I make this effort because no one else can know how my paintings happen. Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest. Georgia O Keeffe Georgia O Keeffe is one of the most influential artists there is today. Her works are valued highly and are quite beautiful and unique. As a prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The size of the bloom relative to a human really reflected the relative importance of nature and mankind in the artist s eyes. Georgia O Keeffe painted everything from lilies, jonquils, daisies, irises, sweet peas, morning glories, poppies, forget me nots, marigolds, poinsettias, orchids, sunflowers, petunias, marigolds, and many more were reborn in her paintings. O Keeffe wasn t happy because people looked at her paintings and tried to see them in the way of a female. She said, Well I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t. She did not like the idea that people thought she painted the way she did because she was a female. She painted that way because that was how she saw things. The flowers that she created epitomize her growth, success, magnetism, and energy at that certain stage in her career. Her choice to paint these flowers was influenced by her early training, natural attraction to flowers, and the idea of something fresh and fragile. Close observations of O Keeffe s flowers show that she never really pursued the realistic approach. She didn t paint every petal and detail. Instead she gave her flowers a life of their own, and expression that changed significantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thunder and Early Scientific Theory Essay Thunder and Early Scientific Theory It lends its name to one of the most common weather phenomenon on Earth the thunderstorm and its associated elements: the thunderhead, thunder cloud, thunder bolt, thundershower and thunder clap. Early humans believed thunder came from the deities the voice and expression of their god(s). The roster of thunder gods includes: Thor of the Scandinavians, Donar of the Germans, Zeus of the Greeks, Jupiter of the Romans, Taranis of the Celts, Perkunis of the Slavs, Indra of the Indians and Shango of the Nigerian Yoruba. Each is know to throw thunderbolts or bundles of lightning at the earth while their voices reverberates across the heavens. Many early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They both believed that air smashing against the clouds caused thunder and, as the air struggled its way through the clouds, it kindled a flame which was lightning. Anaxogoras (ca 499 427 BC), however, believed that thunder resulted when fire flashing through clouds (lightning) was quenched by the water in the cloud. Democritus (ca 460 370 BC), on the other hand, suggested that thunder and lightning were due to the unequal mixing of particles within clouds which caused violent motions, the resulting sound of which was thunder. Aristotle (384 322 BC), in his series of essays entitled Meteorologica (written around 334 BC), wrote that thunder occurs when the dry exhalation that gets trapped when the air is in the process of colliding is forcibly ejected as the clouds condense and in its course strikes the surrounding clouds, and the noise caused by the impact is what we call thunder...similarly the windy exhalations in the clouds produces thunder when it strikes a dense cloud formation. Different kinds of sound are produced because of the lack of uniformity in the clouds and because hollows occur where their density is not continuous. He also wrote that, in general, the ejected winds burns with a fine and gentle fire and it is then what we call lightning, which occurs when the falling wind appears to ... • 4. Viral Respiratory Tract Infections ( Vrtis ) Introduction Viral respiratory tract infections (VRTIs) are the most common illness in humans according to Fendrick (2004). Acute respiratory infections kill approximately 4 million people per year. Approximately half of these respiratory infections are due to viruses. Respiratory infections are one of the top causes of mortality throughout the world. In many developing nations they are the major cause of death in young children (WHO 2013). Often referred to as the common cold, the term upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is used to describe acute viral infections involving upper airway structures including the nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchi. Viruses cause most URIs, with rhinovirus, parainfluenza ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because URTIs are primarily viral use of antibiotics is not recommended. According to Fendrick (2004) there are 110 million physician visits and 23.2 million physician telephone calls in the United States yearly regarding VRTI and an estimated 6 million emergency department visits for the cold occur annually. 69% of those with colds will self medicate with an over the counter (OTC) product, they receive an estimated 41 million unnecessary prescriptions for antibiotics at a cost of 1.1 billion dollars annually and spend 400 million on prescriptions for symptomatic therapies annually. Additionally Americans spend almost 3 billion annually on OTC medications for relief of symptoms related to URIs. According to WHO (2010) up to 60% of people with viral upper respiratory tract infections receive antibiotics inappropriately and the overuse of antibiotics increases antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial resistance may extend illnesses and also increase the length of stay and number of hospital admissions. The associated costs of this resistance is estimated to be approximately 4 to 5 billion dollars in the United States each year and approximately 9 billion euros per year in Europe. Peterson (2007) states that one possible reason for continued high rates of antibiotic prescribing for viral illness is patient expectation of receiving a prescription for antibiotics and fears that complications will ... • 5. They Live Movie Analysis In the movie They Live, I observed many different types of mise en scene. To me the most obvious form of mise en scene is the sunglasses. A piece of mise en scene is discovered when the main character puts on the sunglasses, and the theme of the movie is finally revealed to the viewers. In the beginning of the movie the space aspect is revealed to the audience because as a viewer you figure out the setting of the film. These are just two of the many examples of mise en scene that are presented throughout the movie. The film s mise en scene reveals the character and his personality traits early in the movie. We visually see the main character first in the movie walking through a city looking for a job. This noticeable mis en scene at this time of the movie gives us information about the main character that gives the viewers a wider range of information that would not have been known without the mis en scene. The movie s mise en scene tries to shape our feelings by contrasting the two opposite societies. The movie makes the audience feel like we are a part of the movement to help stop the elite society from conforming the rest of the world to their ways. The visual information helps shape its viewer s feelings to make us feel like we should be against the conformant, and the movie did a good job of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lighting is what grabbed my attention in the movie. When the sunglasses weren t being used the lighting was high key because it was bright and colorful. On the other hand, when the main character is wearing the sunglasses the lighting changes from high key to low key. The only colors that are seen while the main character has the sunglasses on is black and white. This gives the movie a dull look, but without this visual element I don t think that the movie would have been able to represent the huge different between the two different worlds in the ... • 6. Goal Setting for Academic Success 29 November 2010 Goal Setting for Academic Success Goals are like road maps; they get a person from one point to another. Goals provide the direction one needs to reach a destination. The best way to get results is to plan for the future, but live one day at a time. Think about the future; how does one define success? What makes one happy? What drives a person? What makes a person get out of bed in the morning? Does success mean family, money, security, helping others, improving the environment, solving problems, a career, or a degree? By conditioning, the student will be able to follow this map created as if life depends on it because in a way it does. This is the student s future and they should take it very seriously (Carter et al. 100). Putting academic strategies into action is to achieve a desired goal. Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly; action plans are your set of directions to achieve academic goals. Things to remember to include in a plan of action is time management, which would include how much time is spent studying everyday; where the student will study, who the student will study with, and how the student will avoid distractions. Keeping assignments and important dates organized in a planner is very important. The student will then be able to refer to it on a daily. A student must also take into consideration negativity and how to avoid it, assuring that the short term goals are being met successfully. The student should be encouraged even if they don t succeed at first to try again. The student may struggle at first deciding and committing to academic goals, but that doesn t mean they can t go back and revise academic plans. • 7. Comparing The Scottsboro Trials And The Salem Witch Trials In 1931, in Scottsboro, Alabama, nine young black men were charged with raping two white women. They were tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. While the death sentences were overturned by the Alabama Supreme Court, the Scottsboro boys still served an average of ten years in prison for a crime that they didn t commit. While the Scottsboro trials took place over 200 years after the Salem Witch Trials, the circumstances surrounding both cases are extremely similar. One way in which the Scottsboro Trials and the Salem Witch Trials are similar is that in both cases, the accused parties were eventually proven to be innocent. In the Scottsboro Trials, all of the nine accused young men were later found to be innocent. In April 2013, the governor of Alabama officially pardoned the Scottsboro Boys and exonerated them of any wrong doing. In 1711, the colony of Salem restored the rights and innocence of those accused during the Salem Witch Trials. • 9. Stereotypes In The Lion King Films serve as a means of communication and are composed of millions of different elements that form a narrative. Also, they use original techniques to deliver messages in ways that the creator wants them to deliver. Usually, children s films contain a variety of implicit messages, because the language should be simple, and in turn, it should contain fun elements. However, one of the best ways to create stereotypes in cultureis the use of children s movies, because people build their personality and critical thinking in their first years of life. An example of this is the movie The Lion King, where the characters are animals, but also each one plays a role of a human being within a society. All criminal s first offenses should automatically be sentenced to a rehabilitation facility. Jail is going to do nothing but aggravate the offender. Sending them to treatment can possibly change their mindset and mentality. In order to put this plan into effect, we will need approval of higher authorities to build these facilities. The biggest concern will be the cost of the projects, but overall it will benefit the community greatly. In retrospect, these treatment facilities will actually cost less to care for the patients than they would if they were initially placed in a jail or prison cell. One full year of methadone maintenance treatment is approximately $4,700 per patient, whereas one full year of imprisonment costs approximately $24,000 per person ( Principles ). Mining Into Destruction Of The United States Mining into Destruction Amanda Poltorak Hopkinsville Community College Mining into Devastation Introduction Mining affects the lives of millions of Americans every day. Although the United States has a large amount of coal remaining to be mined and burned, almost three fourths of the public land in America has been declared off limits for mining. Mountaintop mining is a relatively new form of surface mining that has steadily gained popularity. The debate as to whether or not this process is an economic necessity or environmental disaster for Kentuckians is the question. Undoubtedly, it is an environmental disaster and it should be removed in every state that they are using it not to mention the health hazards. One report found states, Although dozens of new coal burning power plants are planned or under construction, the latest coal boom is meeting resistance from critics who want to shift the U.S. economy toward cleaner fuels. Even if electricity from coal is cheaper than other sources, they argue, the savings are far outweighed by its environmental and health impacts (Isabella, 2013). The Impact Of Low Socioeconomic Status On Health The social determinants of health influences an individual s risk behaviours, their environmental exposures and their access to resources to promote health. The social determinants refer to factors of an individual s level of education and income, their occupation, their standard of housing, food and water quality, air pollution levels, and the resources available to them. Studies have highlighted a strong relationship between low socioeconomic statusand low health status which for an individual may persist from birth, childhood, adulthood, elderly and may persist into the next generation. Study author Silvia Stringhini said Reducing poverty, improving education and creating safe home, school and work environments are central to overcoming the impact of socioeconomic deprivation. By doing this, socioeconomic status could be targeted and improved, leading to better wealth and health for many. (Source: Huffington Post Title: Low socioeconomic status affects life expectancy more than obesity, 1/02/2017). New Zealand based doctor Martin Tobias also said there was no one issue that meant people from low socioeconomic groups were more likely to be unwell. • 15. Essay On Dante s Inferno See no Evil. Hear no Evil. Do no Evil. Trapped up to his waist in ice, Dante s Satan with his warped wings pushes freezing gusts of air throughout the caverns of the ninth circle of hell. With him, the worst of all sinners are warped into fantastical shapes while encased in the frigid ice. They are the betrayers of love, the godly ideal of voluntary benefaction, and now must spend eternity without warmth or light. Nothing is felt; by being a traitor to their state or their benefactor, they have lost their right to God s love, condemned in the center of the Earth. I admire Satan in this situation the rejected angel thrown deep into Hell because of his power over his realm. His wings freeze the ice and trap both him and the sinners within it, and his heads, a warped holy trinity, continually chew on the three apparently worst humans in history: Judas, Cassius, and Brutus. Thrust into this duty of penultimate torturer, Satan delivers the worst treatment of all of the sins because he too is deserving of it. The power of reciprocal judgment would be the greatest way to force me to become a perfect human. • 16. Emergency Plumbing Services Case Study How to Find Emergency Plumbing Services Five Questions to Ask It is common for homeowners to put plumbing issues in the back of their mind, until emergency plumbing services are needed. In an emergency, every second counts, especially in situations, such as a burst pipe or busted water heater. In emergency situations, it is essential that you hire a qualified plumber to avoid costly mistakes down the road. The best defense is to have plumbers in Seattle on hand before a disaster strikes, so in order to protect yourself, here are five questions to ask before making the decision to hire. Are You Licensed? The first question to ask when hiring potential emergency plumbing services, is are you licensed in Seattle? The Australian Government developed a national nutrition policy in 2012 2013 to encourage citizens to lead healthy lives and reduce nutrition related diseases (National Health and Medical Research Council [NHMRC], 2013) such as obesity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Good nutrition equates to a healthy life, a study into the global burden of disease reported that 15% of global disease was caused by lack of nutrition, in Australia in 2003, 2.1% of the burden of disease was attributed to lack of consumption of fruit and vegetable (NHMRC, 2013). The Australian dietary guidelines states, evidence shows that a diet high in nutritional quality consistent with national dietary guidelines reduces the risk of death and disease (NHMRC, 2013). Nutrition is such an important aspect of our lives that it is now taught in our schools and forms part of most educational policies such as the Melbourne Declaration, National Quality Standards and also in the Australian Curriculum. The Melbourne Declaration states that it is important all students develop a sense of self awareness and self worth that allows them to make decisions in relation to their physical well being and are provided with knowledge and understanding that allows them to establish and maintain healthy lives (MEECYA, 2009), providing students with information in relation to the importance of nutrition will ensure these goals are met. • 18. Metamorphosis Analysis Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis is about the dehumanization of a man named Gregor, when he wastes his life monotonously repeating the same task every day to support his uncaring family. The lack of purpose in his life is an example of absurdist fiction, a genre of fictional narrative that uses satire and irrationality to explore the human experience of meaninglessness. Furthermore, The Metamorphosisuses aspects of magical realism, such as transformation of common, distortion of time and loss of identity, featured in other magical realism works such as Axolotl and The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World . Kafka s The Metamorphosis has both absurdist fiction and magical realism traits, therefore, should not only be classified as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His dad was an abusive father and businessman, Kafka s siblings represented Gregor s sister and his mother was the only who cared and supported him. Satire and the irrationality of life are key aspects of The Metamorphosis and are what makes it absurdist fiction. Kafka utilizes distortion of time, an element of magical realism in The Metamorphosis to show how Gregor is losing touch with humanity, similar to how Julio Cortazar uses it in Axolotl . Distortion of time shows the reader that the way Gregor lives in his world is different from the way we live ours, Magical realism...tells its stories from the perspective of people who live in our world and experience a different reality from the one we call objective (Rogers 1). Time is absent in The Metamorphosis , Often he just lay there the long nights without sleeping at all, scrabbling for hours on the leather. (112) this is significant because it shows how Gregor after turning into an insect, experiences reality differently. Before turning into an insect, Gregor s only purpose in life was to support his family and did not need to keep track on time. After his transformation, because he could not support his family anymore, he lost his purpose in life; without being able to use his time to support his family, he could only sit around and rot. Kafka adjusts the flow of time to show the reader the perspective of a man with no purpose. Axolotl is similar in this fashion, being in the magical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the point when in people s own particular lives they are to discover the premise of human instinct, they should look to their infant years, the developmental years. Presently take for instance in the event that an infant is in the wild or in high class, all around mannered, affluent family. The humaninstinct of the infant in the wild will be precisely that, wild and riotous. While then again the infant in the all around mannered society will be very much mannered and moralistic. More often than not there is an obscure parity and the wickedness is quelled; be that as it may, when there is a movement, for reasons unknown, the dim or insidiousness side of human instinct can surface. In human nature often times a person wants to rid their conscious of ill thoughts often times by committing violent acts. In The Tell Tale Heart, the storyteller chooses to kill this pulse. He plans to execute his thoughts of the eye, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man and thus rid myself of the eye forever (Poe 1843). The storyteller is threatened by the conferred ethics of the old man. This can be reached out into the bigger representation of the contention in mankind and the conferred profound quality of the heart inside. Mankind in strife with itself shows a mystery; is this inner voice regular, as well as the restriction to it, is additionally common. Humans often value their picture and practical status is more vital than their honesty. Poe sets up his stories in the space between the assurance of brutality in humankind and the questionable way of where this savagery originates from. In The Tell Tale Heart, the wrongdoing itself is portrayed in computed subtle element for the reader to appreciate, yet the setting, inspiration, and general work are covered up. The Tell Tale Heart displays a novel affirmation that the value of other s opinion exists; How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story (Poe 1843). Here the narrator is trying to prove to the readers that he is not insane. He would rather tell the readers that he is sane and have them on his side rather than proving he is not insane. My favourite character in the taming of the shrew is tranio because although he is not a antagonist like petruchio, lucentio or the sisters he is the character that the play relies on. The plot of the taming of the shrew consists of a man named petruchio marrying a woman named Katherine so that another man named lucentio can marry Katherines younger sister Bianca. Tranio is a great help to this play by convincing lucentio to go and find some girls in the first place and he also convinces the sisters father babtista that he is lucentio so that lucentio can follow his love Bianca. Tranio does not marry by the end of the play although he is a great help to lucentio giving him great ideas during his peruse of love like convincing him to pretend to be a teacher named Cambio to get closer to Bianca. The reason I like tranio best is because he is very selfless and devoted to lucentio and his plans. 2. Write a love poem or sonnet from the perspective of Petruchio. (100 words) Katherine my dearest, You are to me as fish are to the sea, swimming and wading let our love never start fading. We will live together as we age, we will never break after any rage, we will only grow stronger like a steel cage. I am sorry for any damage that will be done, I knew our love would sprout after our relationship had begun, I just hope we never stop having fun. Katherine my feelings for you are unexplainable, if my feelings for you were words they would be unattainable, Katherine let our love never be detainable for I will never hold you down. I will only let you have what you need and if you need me then I will let you roam free, free in our free love as we are prisoners being let free leaving our chain, embracing our pain and joining each other in forevermore. • 24. The Absolute Ego During this paper I will discuss Fichte s ideas on the absolute ego and how it pertains to the idea of God. I will also discus the similarities and also the differences between Fichte and Smakra as outlined by Lewis. I will then conclude with my remarks and thoughts upon the subject matter. Fichte was an idealist. This is the belief that nothing is known to us except ideas. Since this was the belief of Fichte he avoided dualism and instead believed that only that which is in and for consciousness can be assumed to exist. Fichte thus proceeded to explain experience as the product of intelligence in itself. This idea of intelligence in itself is the ego. To understand this further we must think the wall , once you think the wall then think of the person who thought the wall, and thus you could go on indefinitely. This shows that no matter how we try to objectify the self there always remains the pure ego. Furthermore, all can intellectually intuit the pure ego. This is further explained that anyone who is conscious of an action as his own is aware of himself acting. Once someone recognizes that an action is their own, the person is able to reflect on their self consciousness and will realize that they can intuit the pure ego as an infinite activity. The pure ego itself is not conscious; the pure ego becomes conscious through the philosophers activity directed towards the pure ego as an activity. Once this occurs the pure ego posits itself. Main Idea 1 Seventeenth century Spanish, French, Dutch, and British colonizers embraced different social and economic goals, cultural assumptions, and folkways, resulting in varied models of colonization. Spain sought to establish tight control over the process of colonization in the Western Hemisphere and to convert and/or exploit the native population. French and Dutch colonial efforts involved relatively few Europeans and used trade alliances and intermarriage with American Indians to acquire furs and other products for export to Europe. Unlike their European competitors, the English eventually sought to establish colonies based on agriculture, sending relatively large numbers of men and women to acquire land and populate their settlements, while having relatively hostile relationships with American Indians. The British American system of slaverydeveloped out of the economic, demographic, and geographic characteristics of the British controlled regions of the New World. Reinforced by a strong belief in British racial and cultural superiority, the British system enslaved black people in perpetuity, altered African gender and kinship relationships in the colonies, and was one factor that led the British colonists into violent confrontations with native peoples. The Overcrowding of prisons within the United States is an issue that needs to be addressed because there are too many tax dollars being spent, prison sentences change or do not necessarily fit the crime, and drug offenders and nonviolent criminals, who need services other than prison time, are draining the system. The system sees many of the same habitual drug offenders daily due to some cities not providing enough resources or programs to keep these habitual offenders out. Anarchy doesn t work because citizens can t be completely free to do whatever they want. One of the main reasons that government is a necessity is because the government needs to set in stone, laws that the citizens must abide to. We need rules and laws in a country, because without them people would be free to use and take advantage of each other. It is shown throughout the New Testament after Saul s conversion that he called himself Paul and only used the name Saul when he referred to incidents that occurred prior to his conversion. Other commentaries attribute the name change to Saul s desire to not share the same name with wicked King Saul from the Old Testament who persecuted David, Jesus ancestor. Many significant people in the Bible were referred to by different names such as Jesus disciples Matthew (Levi), Simon (Peter), Abraham (Abram), Sarah (Sarai), Jacob (Israel). The Bible does not offer a reason why Saul changed his name to Paul or indicate whether it was inspired by God or not. The timing of the change of name leads us to believe it was because of his conversion and desire to abandon his old nature and walk in the calling God placed on his life. Her defense stated that she had no choice but to act as she did. The prosecution denied her brainwashing claim and said that she was one of their expert witnesses a rebel in search of a cause. The prosecution emphasized the fact that Hearst had been rebellious prior to the kidnapping and this was just another act of her rebellion. After a 5week trial, the jury convicted Hearst of bank robbery. Heart s very famous defense lawyer, F. Lee Bailey, said that they lost the case for two reasons, the judge improperly allowed evidence into the trial about Hearst s behavior after the robbery, and the government, the jurors, and many Americans felt that Patty Hearst had become a ... • 40. The Republic Of Niger, A Poor, Landlocked Country Essay The Republic of Niger, a poor, landlocked country, located in the heart of Sub Saharan West Africa. Niger has seen its fair share of change throughout the decades; moving away from the control of the French Parliament in 1960, Niger formally declared its independence. Despite this bold act of independence, Nigerwould not see its first steps towards democracy until the early 1990 s, when they held their first open election as a free state. However, even with the empowerment of the people in a democratic government, Niger has seen itself nearly torn apart as a result constant coups, that have occurred as recently as 2010. Such instability has led to incredulous amounts of corruption and poverty, within the Niger government. This lack of stability and constant turnover in government, has been a driving factor behind the lack of resources available for educationin Niger. Although education in Niger is free, the country is nearly entirely rural with an unevenly distributed population. These factors have lead to a lack of schoolbuildings in nearly every part of Niger, and as a result, Niger has an adult literacy rate of only 28.7%; this being the second lowest literacy rate in all of Western Africa, trailed only by Burkina Faso (21.8%). Niger s education system is based on the incredibly successful model of France which consists of: primary school, secondary school and finally higher education. While this model has been effective for the French, most children in Niger will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Nutrition Preference And Its Effect On Diet Preference Introduction: Every living thing has a diet preference, it just depends how wide or narrow those preferences are. Diet preference helps determine the genetic make up of an organism, you are what you eat . The appetite level of an organism can affect diet preference by allowing them to eat something they wouldn t normally eat. For this same reason, hydration levels of an organism may play a role in diet preference. Understanding diet preference in a species like humans may seem trivial but not for something like a house cricket. House crickets, Acheta domesticus are thought to be endemic to northwest Africa or southwest Asia (Weismann and Rentz 1977, Ghouri 1961). Currently this species has a near cosmopolitan distribution, and is typically associated with anthropogenic establishments. Females can be easily distinguished from males from their ovipositor, which allows them to lay eggs underground. Crickets are diet generalists and can feed on a variety of plants(revise). Currently there is little research on what effects hydration levels has on diet preference in crickets. If crickets are given a choice between kale and iceberg lettuce, crickets that are more dehydrated will visit iceberg lettuce over kale. Sex may play a factor in this as well. If sex has an effect on number of visits to kale and iceberg then we should see a difference in visits among males and females. Methods: 41 crickets, 17 males and 24 females that were obtained from the Petsmart store at El Con ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Influences of NiccolГІ Machiavelli’s The Prince on... Richard the Third was a power hungry tyrant, willing to do whatever it took to become the most powerful man in the land. He lied, schemed, and ran down anyone who stumbled across his highway to fame and fortune. His exploits, though morally deplorable, were highly successful for him up until his fateful end. Many of his actions were taken straight from NiccolГІ Machiavelli s The Prince, which is famous for its hard hearted philosophies on achieving power and ruling. Richard followed Machiavelli s advice in that he was ruthless and careful to cover his tracks, but he failed to heed one of his warnings: he made himself unpopular. Richard was pushed far back in the line to the throne, being a third child and the present King already having his own heirs. To even have a chance at ruling, his brothers and the oldest brother s children would have to be killed. Richard saw to this quickly and methodically, as if murdering family and children were completely natural to him. Near the end he did recognize that what he had done was a damnable deed, but he consoled himself by saying that it was a neccisary evil for him to ascend the throne. By using this justification, he was able to kill anyone who he thought was a threat to his kingship. Machiavelli advised his Prince that if he wanted to gain a position that didn t belong to him, he would have to be ready to kill the defenders of that space. He warned the Prince that the deed might anger God, but implied that there was no other way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Gas Price Fluctuation Analysis A recent price shift that all American drivers have experienced is the constant fluctuations of gas prices. As I turned 16 in 2013 gas prices were on the rise ranging from $3 $4 across the nation. For many Americans it caused them to make economical decisions on what vehicle to buy taking on extra jobs to pay for gas, cutting out vacations because of the high gas expense. During 2013 I would even struggle filling up my dodge pickup every week and realizing how much money I was spending just on gas. However, in 2016 prices have decreased to $1 $2 dollars. If we look back on the history of gas prices we can analyze that reason gas prices change so often is based on the amount of crude oil. Since oil is the main input for producing gasoline, so if there is a rise in oil price than gasoline price must rise as well. Many factors go into affecting gas prices, but one example in particular is the detriment of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example since the yeti cup there have been many similar stainless steal cups that have been produced. These cups are usually a lower price and have a different brand name, and design. • 46. Nurse Retention And Retention Many organizations have realized the key to their effectiveness lies in their ability to recruit and retain capable nurses. Retention is a process that should be started before a nurse is hired and needs to be continued until the nurse resigns. Renewed attention has been directed at retention of nurses in a multigenerational workforce over the past 10 to 20 years (Palumbo et al., 2009). The turnover rate of a new graduate ranges from 22.6% to 60% in the first year (Mills Mullins, 2008; Van Wyngeeren Stuart, n.d.), the average age of the nurse is 45 years, and nurses begin to phase into retirement beginning at age 55 years. In light of these facts, it is little wonder that nursing has begun to focus attention on expandВ¬ing retention programs beyond the promotion of job satisfaction, safety, respect, and financial security plans, and gain sharing (Palumbo et al., 2009) to the development of infrastructure services that meet the diverse needs of current employees. ... John Locke s Identification Of Natural Rights Essay Locke s identification of natural rights John Locke, one of the founders of our great country, had three natural rights that he believed in life, liberty, and estate. These natural rights still exist today within the American law. John Locke s identification of natural rights fits well with American law because John Lockehad a big influence on the shaping of American government and laws. The extent of libertythat each American has is still the same as when Locke came up with this natural right. In America, people still get to make their own decisions on their religious views, what lifestyle they want to live, their political views, and how they act. American people still have the freedom of liberty to do what they want and make their own choices. • 49. An Analysis Of Amy Tan s Short Story Two Kinds The Ungrateful Underachiever The definition of an underachiever as stated by Webster is one (such as a student) that fails to attain a predicted level of achievement or does not do as well as expected. In the short story Two Kinds written by Amy Tan, Ni Kan is the queen of underachievers. She determines at a young age to become defiant to her mom. After experiencing disappointment from letting her mom down, Ni Kan determined that she would become an underachiever and intentionally failed throughout her life. What makes a child determine at such a young age to defy her mom on every hand for the rest of their life? The sad realization that Ni Kan would rather see her mother angry at her than disappointed in her became her revelation. Anger meant that she was in control and not her mom. And then I saw what seemed to be the prodigy side of me a face I had never seen before. I looked at my reflection, blinking so that I could see more clearly. The girlstaring back at me was angry, powerful. She and I were the same. I had new thoughts, willful thoughts or rather, thoughts filled with lots of won ts. I won t let her change me, I promised myself. I won t be what I m not. (2) This shows the beginning of when Ni Kan realized she was not ever going to become a child prodigy for her mom. During the same week when I read the Amy Tan story, I was in the midst of a conflict with my own mother. I was trying to decide where to attend graduate school after ...
