Fruit of the Lemon Explication
Fruit of the Lemon by Andrea Levy
I wanted to add Fondant Fancies to the house shop ping list, but Marion said they were revolting and
that we should eat something more healthy, something more brown not fluorescent pink. Mick didn t
like sweet things and Simon had never heard of them and suggested the sickening Battenberg instead.
But I could carry on eating Mar ion s indigestible macaroni cheese with undercooked greens, Mick s
egg and chips and Simon s shepherd s pie soup, if I knew that I could go home to my mum and dad s,
binge on chicken and eat a Fondant Fancy whole whenever I got desperate (41).

roommate Marion thinks they are unhealthy and that they should eat healthier things. Her roommate
Mick doesn t like sweets which is understandable because not everybody likes sweets. Their other
roommate Simon he has never heard of it and suggest instead that they should put Battenberg which

Inequality In Modern Society
It has almost been a decade since the financially crisis of 2008 sent the United States and global
economy on the edge of collapse. Even though the global economy didn t collapse millions of people
still lost their job, saving accounts, and homes. People all over the country were financially ruined and
many will never be able to reacquire their lost money. After the dust had settled from the housing
crises in 2008 the United States was able to rebound and strengthened its economy.
There was one thing that stood out from this disaster, not one top bank executive was tried or
convicted. Not one bank representative went to prison. It seemed the very wealthy individuals and
banks were immune to the housing crash. The government had no problem bailing out the banking
institution which brought on this crises. It had been made clear there was a significant inequality
between the wealthy and everyone else. The inequality difference between the rich and everyone else
is effecting more than the numbers in a bank account but also wear down the foundation of modern
societies.
In the article How Inequality Erodes the foundation of Modern Societies author Robert Reich, who is
chancellor s professor of public policy at the University of Californian, Berkeley, identifies the utmost
single greatest threat to Western democracies is extreme inequality of it citizens. He states, This is
because inequality erodes two foundation stones of modern society openness to new ideas and

The Current State Consists Of Fragmented Processes
The current state consists of fragmented processes, which is the source of all productivity issues and
inefficiency in the construction industry. The future state should be project focused rather than process
focused . To achieve this desired future state it is essential that these processes are transformed to a
more integrated approach. There should be better collaboration between the different stakeholders in
the industry such as architects, builders, owners and regulatory agencies that issues permits. In the
current, traditional system of project delivery, the relationship between these involved parties are
adversarial. This can lead to the project being marred with schedule delays, budget overruns, poor
quality, and disputes and litigations between the parties involved, as they play the blame game
refusing to take liability or responsibility for the different processes. The desired future state can be
reached through incorporating the more collaborative delivery methods that are gaining popularity,
like Design Build and Integrated Project Delivery. These systems are based on information and risk
sharing. IPD especially has a potential to incorporate Lean Construction practices and Target Value
Design in the process. The alliance of the owner, builder, design professional and other specialty
consultants for the project, can communicate effectively with each other on a common platform of
knowledge sharing. Problems that may arise during construction or design

Malcolm Of The Malcolm X Journey
The Malcolm X Journey
Malcolm Little was born in the mid twentieth century, these were difficult times for the black youth.
As Little grew older he knew there needed to be change, he was one of the few people that was
capable of making that happen for the fellow African American and African. At a very young age
Malcolm grasped the concept that there s something not right, that there needed to be an alteration and
thus is where he started his studies. Malcolm needed to be outspoken he wanted to achieve a certain
impact on others. So he began reading into law, that was the only way for him to get some kind of
basic education. In the midst of his devotion to start a revolution, Malcolm Little s father was killed.
The rage and anger he had took over him and Malcolm became rebellious. Malcolm let go of all his
dreams that he once had and he became a troubled child and started committing felonies targeting
white people, such as armed robbery, burglary. In 1946 he was arrested, it was then and there where he
sat and the unconscious became conscious once again all because of a great influence. Malcolm Little
then changed to Malcolm X, he believed that X was his slave name that was lost. Malcolm X was
empowering arising the new man that brought hope and awakened influence to those that mered not to
have a voice of their own. I will try to layout some of the influences that Malcolm had and the impact
he made on others, the achievements that this man made throughout his time

Counterfeiting Of The United States
According to Alan Behr and Sarah Hsia The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection estimates that
counterfeiting costs the United States an estimated $200 billion each year (2007). Counterfeit items
come in several forms such as bags, money, software, movies, drugs and much more. Many people fail
to see that this practice as unethical and harmful towards the company who has manufactured the
original item. There are laws in the United States that prohibit people from selling counterfeit items,
but there are no punishable laws against the buyers. If there were laws against people who buy
counterfeit items, there could possibly be a drop in these items being sold and distributed. Todd
Barosky explains that: counterfeiting is one of the oldest crimes in America...nearly two centuries of
American history, from the introduction of paper money in the British colonies of North America at
the end of the seventeenth century, to the nationalization of the currency by the federal government at
the middle of the nineteenth century, experiences with counterfeit money were both frequent and
widely shared (2010). Counterfeiting does not only happen in the United States, but in other parts of
the world as well. Jills Jusko reported that back in 2006, more than $155 million in counterfeit goods
were seized by the U.S government. The goods came from China, 81%, Hong Kong, 6%, Taiwan, 1%,
Pakistan, 1%, Korea, 1%, and from other places, 10% (2007). This causes a negative economic effect

The Development And Evolution Of Basketball
The Development and Evolution of Basketball This paper will show the evolution of Dr. Naismith s
game of basketball and team size, players on the court at a time, substitutions, baskets, backboards,
balls, scoring, free throws, fouls, and the rules that come with them. The purpose of this paper is to
show the development and evolution of basketball.
Team Size and Players on the Court How has the size of teams changed since 1891? When Dr.
Naismith had a class at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, he planned to play with as many
people who showed up. 18 people showed up to that class, so they played nine on nine. The positions
where: the left wing, the right wing, the home, the center, the right center, the left center, the right
guard, the left guard, and the goalkeeper. When the game became more popular, everybody wanted to
play, with the as many people can play at a time rule, teams of up to 50 were used, which was much
too many. During this time, the rule changed to you can have large teams, but only nine players on
your team can be on the court at a time ( Evolution of the Game ). How has the amount of players on
the court at a time changed since creation? When Dr. Naismith had his class at the YMCA, he planned
to let everybody play at once, but only having 18 people in that class, it was hard to determine whether
or not large amounts of players on the court at a time would work, they played with nine on nine.
Early leagues only had two teams because there was

CE 3.3.1
In our project, we implemented these effects using the concept of digital delay. Four types of effects
are produced using a digital signal processing kit TMS320C6713 which is programmed using C
language. I converted an analog signal to a digital signal and processed for the desired effect using a
Digital Signal Processor (DSP). The enhanced output from the DSP is then converted back to an
analog signal and fed to a speaker. Digital circuitry was a perfect fit for the process of storing a signal
and then playing it back at a specified time interval. It also solved the problem of losing the high
frequencies on longer delay times.
CE 3.3.2
I looked at the delay and realized that it is used as a sound enhancement and also can be used on
virtually any instrument and on vocals. I researched why delay is used in this application and electrical
signal move at a much higher speed than sound. I learnt Delay is an audio effect which records an
input signal to an audio storage medium, and then plays it back after a period of time. Audio storage
refers to techniques and formats used to store audio with the goal to reproduce the audio later using
audio signal processing to something that resembles the original. I used the FIR echo algorithm that
calculates the current output buffer value by adding the current input buffer value to an input buffer
value that occurred a certain amount of time in the

Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Symbolism Essay
First of all, in Samuel Taylor Coleridge s poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner , Coleridge states
that committing crimes could change a person human of nature by using symbolism. In his poem, the
speaker listens to an old sailor telling his perilous journey in the wedding. During the voyage, the old
sailor other partners are all dead because they meet a strong wind and water shortage after he shot an
albatross. Although he survived from the disaster, he becomes guilty and cannot forgive himself,
Instead of the cross, the Albatross About my neck was hung [...] The self same moment I could pray;
And from my neck so free /The Albatross fell off, and sank Like lead into the sea.[...] Forthwith this
frame of mine was wrenched/ with a woful agony/which forced me to begin my tale/and then it left
me free (141 142,198 291 577 581). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, his imagery shows him that he has been forgive to his crime from God s voices, he still
cannot forgive himself thus he keeps telling others about his experience to feel less guilty. Then,
Coleridge uses symbolism to emphasize how the old sailor s crime changes his human of nature such
as The albatross . The albatross is literally a kind of bird that often appears flying above ocean.
However, in the poem, it becomes the defining symbol of the old sailor s crime. It also symbolizes the
burden of sin as being a Christian as he wears the albatross dead body around his neck instead of his
cross. Before he killed the albatross, he treats animals with careless thoughts as he just shoots the
albatross because he feels fun doing it. After he had killed it, he realizes that he was wrong and his
action was contradicted against Christians belief. Wearing the albatross on his neck symbolizes he is
bothered by his

History Of The Aztec Calendar
The Aztec Calendar was carved in 1479. The Calendar was dedicated to the sun god. It is 3 feet thick,
is about 12 feet across, and weighs almost 25 tones. The Aztec Calendar is a reflection of the Aztecs
Pharisaical understanding of time and space. The Aztecs, along with many of societies at this time
believed that time went in cycles. Now, the Calendar consists of more than just one wheel rather it is a
combination of two wheels. The first Calendar is known to the Aztecs as Xiuhpohualli. The second
being Tonalpohualli. Today I will be expanding on so of the known surrounding the Aztec calendar.
The Aztec calendar played a big role in the complex system of religious beliefs and ceremonies that
consisted of ritualized warfare and human sacrifice

On September 22, 2014 Tesco, the most dominant supermarket in the United Kingdom, confessed that
its earnings for the half year finishing on the 23rd of August 2014 were exaggerated by an expected

5_Skeletal System Organs (1,100 Words). The Framework Of
5_Skeletal System Organs (1,100 words)
The framework of the human body is the skeletal system. Skeletal system organs include the bones,
joints, cartilages, ligaments, tendons and teeth. Bones offer support for the muscles, protect our vital
organs, and allow us to eat food. Our joints allow our body to move, twist and bend. Cartilage, like
our ears and nose, offer soft structures that are more malleable than bones. Two separate bones are
connected by ligaments, and bones and muscles are connected by tendons. Our teeth allow us to bite
and chew our food. Skeletal structure is similar among all people around the world, with the greatest
diversity occurring between the sexes. We will explore each system in greater detail and provide ...

3. Joints
Joints appear throughout our body. Our ability to move turn our head is because of our spine s ability
to twist and turn. Our shoulders and hips allow our arms to move in circles. Our elbows and knees are
hinge joints, which allow us to extend or retract our hands and feet. Our wrists and ankles give is the
ability to move them in circles. Our fingers and toes are hinge joints as well. Every place in your body
that moves, like your jaw, does so because of joints.
4. Ligaments
Ligaments are made of fibrous collagen tissue. The purpose of the ligaments are to connect two bones
to each other. These connects are located at joints, which control and enhance our movements. Our
hips, shoulders, elbows and knees are connected by ligaments. People who are double jointed have
ligaments that allow them to move their joints further than people who are not double jointed.
5. Tendons
Tendons, like ligaments, are also made of fibrous collagen tissue. Tendons connect muscles to bones,
which allow the movements of our muscles to cause our bones to move. When a muscle contracts, it
pulls the tendon which causes the bone in the arm to contract. When we walk, lift items, talk or make
dinner, we are moving our tendons.
6. Teeth
Our teeth allow us to bite and chew our food. Our teeth are connected to our jaw and are incredibly
durable. Teeth are one of the most important indicators of our health. Baby teeth are temporary teeth

Anti-Terrorism Policy In Canada
Anti terrorism policy has become a more important legislative issue since the September 11th incident
in 2001. Prior to this event, North American countries felt the need to implement new policy that
would protect their citizens from criminal activity associated with acts of terror. In Canada, anti
terrorism policy consists of three main components identified in the literature: 1) The criminal code
and relevant violations; 2) Anti Terror Legislation; and 3) policy in practice. In this briefing note, all
three will be analyzed based on whether or not the current policy is sufficiently protecting Canadians
while ensuring that civil liberties are not being violated.

from any other involving terrorism for the three following reasons: First, Khadr was a child soldier

Second, Khadr s entire direct family was sensationalized based on the fact that they were an Al Qaeda

Argument Paper On Gun Control
Position Paper on Gun Control
While Americans were contemplating gun control proposals in the wake of mass shootings at a
Colorado School, another gunman massacred 50 people in a club in Orlando. This incident brought
heated political exchanges between President Obama and Trump, the Republican presidential
candidate. It is estimated that in 2015 alone, there were more than 351 mass shootings in the United
States. This is a worrying trend that should be reversed as soon as possible. Surprisingly, the trend has
divided Americans into two groups. On one extreme end, there are those Americans who believe that
the government should enforce gun control. On the other end, some Americans insist that stricter gun
controls will not help in the fight against killings. In this light, this paper will try to provide a detailed
analysis of the gun control debate while highlighting the various points made by the proponents and
opponents of the gun control. The essay posits that gun control is counterproductive.
The debate on gun control revolves around how the laws to be implemented will affect the acquisition
of guns by the criminals as well as law abiding citizens. Gun control proponents are of the opinion that
in the absence of gun control laws, criminals will acquire guns too easily. In the same vein, if all
citizens are armed, criminals will have a greater incentive to acquire guns. Hence, there will be too
many guns in circulation and crime cases will increase. Contrastingly, gun

Sociological Explanations Of Crime Essay
Sociological explanations of the causes of crime and deviance: an evalutation.
Unusual behaviour, such as cross dressing can be seen as deviant in some places, criminal in others
and acceptable else where. According to sociologist William Graham Sumner deviance is a violation
of established contextual, cultural, or social norms, whether codified by codified by laws or not.
According to Howard Becker 1963, defining deviance has is not a straightforward task. Deviance is
not the quality of the act. Rather it is a quality of how people react to what you do meaning answering
your phone in the street is acceptable behaviour and will not get a negative reaction, answering it in
the middle of an exam is considered rude and will receive a negative sanction, possibly a few bad
looks or exclusion from the examination room, answering your phone when in the witness stand

Case Is Foss V. Harbottle

Foss v. Harbottle
In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east of
Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business and
professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority
shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various
mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said
that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two
shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done
to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is
that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has
separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it states that if the alleged
wrong can be confirmed or ratified by a simple majority of members in a general meeting, then the
court will not interfere, cadit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Development Of Childhood Abuse Victims
THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDHOOD ABUSE VICTIMS 2
The Behavioral Development of Childhood Abuse Victims and How Their Children Are Affected In
2015, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report containing the following
statistics: In 2013, approximately 3.9 million children in the United States were reported to have been
abused or mistreated. 52 states reported a total of 678,932 child victims of abuse and neglect. Victims
between the ages of birth to 1 year old had the highest rate of victimization at 23.1 per 1,000 children
of the same age in the national population. Neglect was the most prevalent form of child abuse, with
79.5% of child victims being made to suffer it. Physical abuse was the second most common form
(18.0%). In 2013, a nationally estimated 1,520 children died from abuse and neglect. (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, 2015). When reading these statistics, it is plain to see that
the abuse and mistreatment of children is a critical issue, not just in the United States, but globally.
Much research has been conducted to determine the general demographics of the perpetrators and the
victims, common trends in cases of abuse that could shed light on the psychology of the abusers and
their victims, and how the abuse inflicted on the victims affects their development into adulthood. In a

2. PATTERN MAKING 2.1 Body Measurement Garment fitting is based on taking body
measurements. So it is very important for a dress maker to know how to take accurate measurements.
For a successful garment cutting, one must know the size and shape of the human body, for which
designing has to be done. Anatomy begins with the eight head theory (Adu Boakye et.al 2012). 2.1.1
Body Anatomy The father of tailoring Mr. Wampon drew seven imaginary lines across the body
structure for the purpose of easy measurement in tailoring. The whole body structure was lengthwise
divided into eight equal parts, which is known as the eight head theory. This theory has become the
foundation of all fashion drawing and for understanding the body shape and structure ... Show more

Role Of Hassall s In T Cell Development
Role of Hassall s corpuscles in T cell development
Abstract
After being first described by Arthur Hill Hassall about 170 years ago, Hassall s corpuscles raised
curiosity in the minds of many researchers. These fascinating structures are located in thymic medulla
and for a long time their exact function had been an unanswered question. Recent advancements in
research has shown that they play a role in the maturation and development of thymocytes in thymus.
They are known to express cytokines, chemokines and other proteins suggesting that they interact with
antigen presenting cells and are actively involved in the development of T cells. Many diseases related
to auto immunity were found to vary from the normal condition, in the context of morphology of these
structures, making it important to understand the nature and role of these bodies in the human thymus.
The review highlights some of the current findings related to the structure and function of Hassall s
corpuscles throwing more light upon their role in the development of T cells.
Introduction
The Thymus is a pinkish, lobulated organ that is located posterior to the sternum. The main function of
the thymus is to process lymphocytes. It is an organ that undergoes involution; around the time of
puberty it degenerates. Thymic involution is important as it is believed to be linked to
immunosenescence and its associated diseases. Much study has been done to understand the cause and
mechanism of thymic degeneration in the hope

GOD Personal Statement
I started my journey working for an adult behavioral program at our local hospital. I worked there for
5 years with amazing people. I now work for a substance abuse facility as support staff that treats not
only the substance abuse but the mental health of the clients as well. I have seen the love and caring
that the counselors have for their clients. They have helped me understand the problems that the
clients are going through. I have become aware of the link between addiction and mental health. These
amazing ladies have inspired me to want to help and hopefully bring my faith in GOD as basis for my

breaks my heart to see this happen. I know all I can do is pray for them. I do believe that all things are
possible through Jesus Christ. I have been asked to pray for family members from some of the girls
which I am more than happy to do. I hope that I am a positive example of GOD s love through the

Similarities Between Stamp Act Congress Declaration Of...
The Stamp Act Congress Declaration of Rights and Grievances was a petition to the king and the two
houses of Parliament asking for colonial position in the government if they were to be taxed. The
Declaration of Independence is a statement from the colonial government wishing to cut ties with
England and to be their own governing force. Both were, in a sense, documents that asked of England
to change their ways of governing the colonies. While both articles are mostly different in how they
ask for that change, there are some similarities in them culturally; even though they are years apart.
First, both of the documents call out the militia based courts set in place by the king. The Stamp Act
Congress states in title VII, That trial by jury is the inherent and invaluable right of every British
subject in these colonies (p. 90) and one of the grievances on why the colonies wish to succeed from
England in the Declaration of Independence is For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial
by Jury (p A69). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, both documents address England unlawfully taxing the colonies. The Stamp Act Congress
states That the only representatives of the people of these colonies are persons chosen therein by
themselves, and no taxes ever have been, or can be constitutionally imposed on them, but by their
respective legislatures (p. 90) and the Declaration of Independence states one of the reasons they had
made this specific document was For imposing Taxes on us without our consent (p A69). This shows
that even between the years both of these were written, the American colonies still believed in fighting
for taxation without representation. Lastly, both documents both state their angers for the Navigation

This is the author account of the film Delicatessen. This is a post apocalyptic film set in France. Meat
and food is very scarce in this dark period for the world. This film has everything from murder, sex,
cannibalism to people living under the ground.
1.1 Methodology
The author was giving the film Delicatessen and told to deconstruct the film and give the author s
opinion on this strange film. The author watched the film a few times and read reviews online to learn
about the director and main actors and actress that starred in Delicatessen.
2.1 Food is Currency
There is no money in this post apocalyptic film so meat, corn, lentils and even sex is used to pay for
food. The people are using the barter system to trade by exchange of commodities rather than money.
Food was more important than money, you need to eat to survive, and meat is the top commodity. The
Kube brothers exchanged 2 bags of corn for nine hundred grams of shoulder meat. And when they
argue this Clapet told the brothers you get what you always get. Lentils were seen as nothing as the
taximan would not take lentils from Louison for his fair, instead he took his shoes, even though taxi
broke down before and Louison had pushed the car for miles.

Wicca and Pagan are two religions, which have many similarities as well as many differences within
each area. Wicca is a sect of Pagan in which each has their own variations on the religion. A good way
to put it; all Wiccans are Pagan, but not all Pagans are Wiccan. Witch is a term used for any
practitioner of Wicca. The Webster s II Dictionary defines witch as 1. A woman who practices sorcery
or is believed to have dealings with the devil, 2. An ugly, vicious old woman; hag. Wicca is described

set of elements. These elements are also used to represent the points of the star within the pentacle.
The elements are east, south, west, north, and center or spirit also known as akasha. In both parts of
the religions, there are a basic set four rules; these rules are live, love, learn, and enjoy. The three laws

religions use the three fold law of return. ; This incorporates that whatever you do, for good or for ill,
shall be returned to you threefold, or three times the amount in which it was issued. It is basically the
natural law of cause and effect.

Explain The Major Processes That Occur During The Prenatal...
The five major processes that occur during the prenatal and postnatal periods of human development
Proliferation, Migration, Differentiation, Myelination and Synaptogensis. Each stage relies on the
properly assembly of neuronal connections to assure a fully functioning organism. Proliferation is the
initial stage, activated during unification period of sperm and egg. This is where new cells begin to
divide, first forming brain cells. These brain cell originate from stem cells, which can be specialized
into nearly any cell in the human body. Once the proliferation process is underway, which research
suggests is less than first after conception, the cells divide uncontrollably. At over two hundred
thousand cells per minute, they do not stop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage is the differentiation period. Here, the cells are assigned unique characteristics of structural,
biochemical and physiological properties all before the birth. Even the glial cells now become
specialized and develop into astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. These cells are extremely important in
the next stage of myelination. Myelination is the stage of neuronal development that is initiated
postnatally. After the baby is born the newly specialized glia cells begin constructing the fatty sheath
around the axon, need for the speed and effectiveness of the neural transmission between all the
neurons in the brain. Oligodendrocytes are responsible for the myelin produced in the central nervous
system. It commences first around the spinal, ascending from the hindbrain structures to the forebrain.
This process continues gradually for decades, until the brain is fully developed. Synaptogenesis is the
final stage of neural development. Neurons in this stage must establish the necessary connections for
proper functioning. Connections made early, that are frequently called upon are likely to remain strong

History Hopi means peaceful ones, or hopeful. The Hopi are a sub tribe of Pueblo, formerly called
Moki, or Moqui. The Hopis regard themselves as the first inhabitants of America. Their village of

oral history traces their origin to a Creation and Emergence from previous worlds, scientists place
them in their present location for the last thousand years, perhaps longer (Waters, 1963).
Archaeologists definitively place the Hopis on the Black Mesa of the Colorado Plateau by 1350. The

The Kachina dolls are used in rituals and ceremonies along with different dances to bring rain and

An Analysis of Thucydides Views on the Melian Dialogue
The Melian Dialogue is a debate between Melian and Athenian representatives concerning the
sovereignty of Melos. The debate did not really occur the arguments given by each side were of
Thucydides own creation. Thus it is reasonable to assume that we can tease out Thucydides own
beliefs. In this paper, I will first extract Thucydides views from the Melian Dialogue and then analyze
whether or not these views are well founded.
Thucydides believed that the Athenians had the stronger argument. Proof of this lies in the way
Thucydides picked the arguments for each side. For the moment, we will disregard the actual content

Athens arguments are of a higher form than the Melians, because they can be proved or disproved.
Thucydides wrote the Dialogue in this way, and thus we can infer that his own beliefs were that
Athenians were aware of such higher argumentation forms, and the Melians were not. Thucydides
believed that Athenian arguments could be tested.
The Athenians always had the last word; had this been an actual debate the Athenians would have won
by showmanship and persuasion alone. The Melians managed to question their rivals, but once the
Athenians responded, there was no Melian rebuttal. To the question of how other neutral Greek city
states might have reacted to Athenian aggression, Athens responded that any neutral sites that might
have become hostile did not concern them. They argued that neutral city states either posed little
threat, or were already under pressure to join the alliance. To this the Melians had nothing to say. They
instead moved on to say that they would be thought of as base and cowardly should they have
submitted. Athens answered that there is only disgrace in submission to an equal power, not a greater
one like Athens. No Melian concern was left unanswered by the Athenians, yet the Melians were often
at a loss for words. The only explanation for this phenomenon

What Does Fragment 123 Mean
Heidegger also believed that we have been interpreting certain pre Socratics wrong. One such pre
Socratic is Heraclitus. More specifically, Heidegger believed that Fragment 123 of Heraclitus in which
he mentions Physis has also been translated falsely, giving the words false definitions as well as false
philosophical theories behind it. Traditionally, Fragment 123 is translated into that nature likes to hide
. Instead of the traditional interpretation of how nature likes to hide, Heidegger believed that when
Heraclitus mentioned Physis, he was referring to Being. More specifically, he was referring to Being
in the Heideggarian context, which is referring to the appearing of that which appears and the
occurring of what is. In other words, he was referring to things which are seeming and happening and

Heidegger believed that being is unchanging, but change is becoming. In other words, being is
something that cannot change, but at the same time, change is something that is heading towards a
fulfillment, or a state of becoming in which no longers and not yets are changing due to their
achievement. Likewise, Dasein is also becoming, but it is not actualizing. Dasein is trying to head
towards its self fulfillment in which Daseins spend their entire lives trying to do, but are never fully
able to reach the goal of self actualization. As a result, beings are something that are constantly being,
while at the same time, constantly becoming, heading towards their self actualization. Heidegger
additionally pointed out that what is no longer has to become, because it is coming into appearance.
To put it in a different perspective, what is becoming is something that is something that cannot exist

Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay
Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto
Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies the
search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM, 175), and
thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western idealized self.
Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of
social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). Her argument is introduced as an effort to
build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She claims
blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. Blasphemy invokes the seriousness of ... Show more

Cyborgs are technological constructs and thus deny the logic of reproduction; they rather mock the
masculinist reproductive dream (CM, 152). They have no memory of a primary state of innocence;
they conceive of no Father s saving through the restoration of a garden they don t recognize the
Garden of Eden in that they do not re member the cosmos (CM, 151). As they build no sense of
community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary of
holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal
capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins.
The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial
boundary breakdowns:
the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and
machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has
become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and
electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence.
When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with it
the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153).
If cyborg myth is about the transgression of boundaries, as Haraway seems to posit, it envisions

critical thinking #1 Essay
1) Which of the four basic strategy types were used by GM? Explain your rationale. GM is a defender.
Even though they slimmed down dramatically they still managed to regain their title from Toyota.
They are experts at what they make and I am sure they would use the slogan We re sticking with the
basics. GM wants to down size the number of platforms they use so they can make the most out of the
fewer platforms.
2) Based on the case, what is GM s vision? Do you think it is realistic? Explain. GM s vision is to
make fewer platforms but use the same basic parts. One goal is fewer auto platforms. GM aims to
build vehicles all over the world that are made from the same basic parts and assembled in plants that
use the same tooling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do think these goals are attainable they just have to stick with the plan and make sure they have a
back up plan in case something does not work out right.
4) Using Figure 5.5, describe the extent to which GM is using the planning/control cycle. They made
their plan they are taking away some of the platforms. They are carrying out the plan by cutting those
platforms. They are controlling the direction by using the profits and going from there. They
controlled the direction by improving the future for the company. I think they are using the
Planning/Control cycle to the fullest. They are following the steps.
5) What did you learn about planning based on this case? Explain I learned that sometime you can not
get ahead of your self. Just because the market is doing good does not mean you should make so many
models. You never know when your industry is going to take a hit and when you have so many
variations of one product it is hard to make each one better. Just stick with the basics. Make your fist
model the best it can be and then move on. You need to follow the Planning/Control cycle. Make your
plan, Carry out your plan, Control your direction by getting results, Take corrective action. Make sure
you follow your plan and always have a back up plan!

Saving First And Paying Cash
Keep in mind that baby boomers were the first generation to grow up on television and credit cards (O
Neill, 1991). Lusardi (2009) noted that most individuals deal frequently with credit cards and other
forms of borrowing yet only a minority of individuals possess basic financial knowledge about debt.
The previous generation used credit as the ultimate last resort while baby boomers were conditioned to
be much more comfortable with credit. For many baby boomers, their idea of saving is buying more to
receive a discount on the purchase. The concept of saving first and paying cash has been replaced with
the concept of you can have anything your heart desires today as long as it is within your credit limit.
More financial education in this area may be a way to prevent a future financial crisis. For immediate
results, this education can be provided by financial advisors. As financial planners work with their
clients to examine their income, expenses, assets and liabilities, the numerical ability of consumers
can be enhanced, thus potentially reducing the number of future foreclosures on homes. The need for
Financial Advisors The previous retirement plan that counted on employer contributions to a defined
benefit plan and a secure social security benefit from the government is fading away. The foundation
of a secure retirement plan will be determined by future retirees taking on much more responsibility.

Essay on Matewan and Norma Rae
Matewan and Norma Rae
Theoretically, the characters of both Matewan, and Norma Rae take part in a capitalistic society. In
both situations the people are partaking in a form of labor market, where they are selling their time
and energy. However, the town of Matewan, governed by the Stone Mountain Coal Companies
monopoly on the land and businesses, and isolated by distance and limited technology, as fallen into a
feudalistic condition. Despite the fact that Norma Rae s small hometown of Alabama bears a great
resemblance to the town of Matewan, their economic situation remains a form of capitalism. Though
the Henely Mill is a dominating force in the small town, with a strong financial hold over the citizens,
it is not as dictatorial of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When new miners arrive in the town of Matewan, they are automatically in debt to the company store
for the equipment need to begin working. Throughout the life of the coal miners they are at the mercy
of the company s scams and whims. Coal mining is a dangerous operation; not only by chance of
mishap, but the coal miners are in great risk of ill health due to the inhalation of coal dust, and the
physical strain of working such a laborious trade. The coal company is insensible to the health
concerns of the miners; individuals are irrelevant to the industrial company, and they are secure on the
knowledge that a fresh supply of young, healthy, able bodied workers will fall into their grasp.
The Stone Mountain Coal Company s monopoly over the resources of Matewan is compounded by the
town s isolation. Matewan, nestled west of the Shenandoah Valley in West Virginia, is not readily
accessible to the outside world; nor is the rest of the world accessible to the citizens of Matewan. The
town is separated not only by physical distance, but also by a lack of technology. In 1920 travel was
still time consuming, and the people of Matewan are unable to easily communicate with the rest of the
world. The inability to commute, and socialize with

R-Type Pyocin Essay
1.5.1.3 R type pyocin: Therapeutic potential The potential of R type pyocin to be developed as a
therapeutic was realized immediately after its discovery. As early as in 1967, Higerd et al showed that
R type pyocin was safe to administer in animals [77]; it did not have a lethal effect on mice and
rabbits when injected in high concentration intraperitoneally. Since then, six studies have specifically
looked at the therapeutic potential of R type pyocins in animal models. Bird and Grieble, in 1969,
injected an infective dose of P. aeruginosa into chick embryos, followed immediately by a suitable
pyocin preparation, and found that a single dose of pyocin increased the survival of infected embryos
from 3% to 46% [78]. In 1972, Merrikin and Terry showed that purified R type pyocin, administered
parenterally to mice infected with sensitive strains of P. aeruginosa, afforded significant ... Show more

aeruginosa infections [79]. Following that, in 1974, Haas et al reported an investigation into the
possible prophylactic effect of R type pyocin in the prevention of the lethal effect of subsequent
challenge with P. aeruginosa [80]. In this study they showed that mice were protected against lethal
intraperitoneal challenge with P. aeruginosa when a single injection of R type pyocins was
administered one hour before the challenge. The protective effect lasted for at least four days.
Although these studies illustrate the potential of R type pyocins as a novel therapeutic, they were
limited in scope and the authors did not quantify the assays, generate dose response curves, or
optimize time and route of administration. In 1975, Rosamund Williams studied the systemic and
topical effects of purified R type pyocins (and F type and S type pyocins) on P. aeruginosa systemic
and burn infections, respectively, in

Archaeological Ceramics Paper
Archaeological ceramics is the most prolific relics that have been studied to expand our understanding
of past cultures. Archaeological study based on the investigation of pottery shape, color, decoration
style and materials that can give a plenty of information regarding typological and invaluable
information, dating and provenance. The study of the mineralogical properties of ceramics plays a
vital role to understand the previous technologies. However, the manufacturing techniques, cleaning
of the clays, adding of the temper, and shaping of objects, firing atmosphere can significantly change
the mineralogical composition of the ceramic objects. In addition to this, the life cycle of ceramics and
its usage and post depositional modifications are also important and can help to change the

Fruit Of The Lemon Analysis Mayra Diaz Professor Susan Zieger Engl020a November 29, 2017 Fruit of the Lemon Explication Fruit of the Lemon by Andrea Levy I wanted to add Fondant Fancies to the house shop ping list, but Marion said they were revolting and that we should eat something more healthy, something more brown not fluorescent pink. Mick didn t like sweet things and Simon had never heard of them and suggested the sickening Battenberg instead. But I could carry on eating Mar ion s indigestible macaroni cheese with undercooked greens, Mick s egg and chips and Simon s shepherd s pie soup, if I knew that I could go home to my mum and dad s, binge on chicken and eat a Fondant Fancy whole whenever I got desperate (41). • 3. Inequality In Modern Society It has almost been a decade since the financially crisis of 2008 sent the United States and global economy on the edge of collapse. Even though the global economy didn t collapse millions of people still lost their job, saving accounts, and homes. People all over the country were financially ruined and many will never be able to reacquire their lost money. After the dust had settled from the housing crises in 2008 the United States was able to rebound and strengthened its economy. There was one thing that stood out from this disaster, not one top bank executive was tried or convicted. Not one bank representative went to prison. It seemed the very wealthy individuals and banks were immune to the housing crash. The government had no problem bailing out the banking institution which brought on this crises. It had been made clear there was a significant inequality between the wealthy and everyone else. The inequality difference between the rich and everyone else is effecting more than the numbers in a bank account but also wear down the foundation of modern societies. In the article How Inequality Erodes the foundation of Modern Societies author Robert Reich, who is chancellor s professor of public policy at the University of Californian, Berkeley, identifies the utmost single greatest threat to Western democracies is extreme inequality of it citizens. He states, This is because inequality erodes two foundation stones of modern society openness to new ideas and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Current State Consists Of Fragmented Processes The current state consists of fragmented processes, which is the source of all productivity issues and inefficiency in the construction industry. The future state should be project focused rather than process focused . To achieve this desired future state it is essential that these processes are transformed to a more integrated approach. There should be better collaboration between the different stakeholders in the industry such as architects, builders, owners and regulatory agencies that issues permits. In the current, traditional system of project delivery, the relationship between these involved parties are adversarial. This can lead to the project being marred with schedule delays, budget overruns, poor quality, and disputes and litigations between the parties involved, as they play the blame game refusing to take liability or responsibility for the different processes. The desired future state can be reached through incorporating the more collaborative delivery methods that are gaining popularity, like Design Build and Integrated Project Delivery. These systems are based on information and risk sharing. IPD especially has a potential to incorporate Lean Construction practices and Target Value Design in the process. The alliance of the owner, builder, design professional and other specialty consultants for the project, can communicate effectively with each other on a common platform of knowledge sharing. • 5. Malcolm Of The Malcolm X Journey The Malcolm X Journey Malcolm Little was born in the mid twentieth century, these were difficult times for the black youth. As Little grew older he knew there needed to be change, he was one of the few people that was capable of making that happen for the fellow African American and African. At a very young age Malcolm grasped the concept that there s something not right, that there needed to be an alteration and thus is where he started his studies. Malcolm needed to be outspoken he wanted to achieve a certain impact on others. So he began reading into law, that was the only way for him to get some kind of basic education. In the midst of his devotion to start a revolution, Malcolm Little s father was killed. The rage and anger he had took over him and Malcolm became rebellious. Malcolm let go of all his dreams that he once had and he became a troubled child and started committing felonies targeting white people, such as armed robbery, burglary. In 1946 he was arrested, it was then and there where he sat and the unconscious became conscious once again all because of a great influence. Malcolm Little then changed to Malcolm X, he believed that X was his slave name that was lost. Malcolm X was empowering arising the new man that brought hope and awakened influence to those that mered not to have a voice of their own. • 7. Counterfeiting Of The United States According to Alan Behr and Sarah Hsia The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection estimates that counterfeiting costs the United States an estimated $200 billion each year (2007). Counterfeit items come in several forms such as bags, money, software, movies, drugs and much more. Many people fail to see that this practice as unethical and harmful towards the company who has manufactured the original item. There are laws in the United States that prohibit people from selling counterfeit items, but there are no punishable laws against the buyers. If there were laws against people who buy counterfeit items, there could possibly be a drop in these items being sold and distributed. Todd Barosky explains that: counterfeiting is one of the oldest crimes in America...nearly two centuries of American history, from the introduction of paper money in the British colonies of North America at the end of the seventeenth century, to the nationalization of the currency by the federal government at the middle of the nineteenth century, experiences with counterfeit money were both frequent and widely shared (2010). Counterfeiting does not only happen in the United States, but in other parts of the world as well. Jills Jusko reported that back in 2006, more than $155 million in counterfeit goods were seized by the U.S government. The goods came from China, 81%, Hong Kong, 6%, Taiwan, 1%, Pakistan, 1%, Korea, 1%, and from other places, 10% (2007). This causes a negative economic effect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this paper is to show the development and evolution of basketball. Team Size and Players on the Court How has the size of teams changed since 1891? When Dr. Naismith had a class at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, he planned to play with as many people who showed up. 18 people showed up to that class, so they played nine on nine. The positions where: the left wing, the right wing, the home, the center, the right center, the left center, the right guard, the left guard, and the goalkeeper. When the game became more popular, everybody wanted to play, with the as many people can play at a time rule, teams of up to 50 were used, which was much too many. During this time, the rule changed to you can have large teams, but only nine players on your team can be on the court at a time ( Evolution of the Game ). How has the amount of players on the court at a time changed since creation? When Dr. Naismith had his class at the YMCA, he planned to let everybody play at once, but only having 18 people in that class, it was hard to determine whether or not large amounts of players on the court at a time would work, they played with nine on nine. CE 3.3.1 In our project, we implemented these effects using the concept of digital delay. Four types of effects are produced using a digital signal processing kit TMS320C6713 which is programmed using C language. I converted an analog signal to a digital signal and processed for the desired effect using a Digital Signal Processor (DSP). The enhanced output from the DSP is then converted back to an analog signal and fed to a speaker. Digital circuitry was a perfect fit for the process of storing a signal and then playing it back at a specified time interval. It also solved the problem of losing the high frequencies on longer delay times. CE 3.3.2 I looked at the delay and realized that it is used as a sound enhancement and also can be used on virtually any instrument and on vocals. I researched why delay is used in this application and electrical signal move at a much higher speed than sound. I learnt Delay is an audio effect which records an input signal to an audio storage medium, and then plays it back after a period of time. Audio storage refers to techniques and formats used to store audio with the goal to reproduce the audio later using audio signal processing to something that resembles the original. I used the FIR echo algorithm that calculates the current output buffer value by adding the current input buffer value to an input buffer value that occurred a certain amount of time in the ... Rime Of The Ancient Mariner Symbolism Essay First of all, in Samuel Taylor Coleridge s poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner , Coleridge states that committing crimes could change a person human of nature by using symbolism. In his poem, the speaker listens to an old sailor telling his perilous journey in the wedding. During the voyage, the old sailor other partners are all dead because they meet a strong wind and water shortage after he shot an albatross. Although, his imagery shows him that he has been forgive to his crime from God s voices, he still cannot forgive himself thus he keeps telling others about his experience to feel less guilty. Then, Coleridge uses symbolism to emphasize how the old sailor s crime changes his human of nature such as The albatross . The albatross is literally a kind of bird that often appears flying above ocean. However, in the poem, it becomes the defining symbol of the old sailor s crime. It also symbolizes the burden of sin as being a Christian as he wears the albatross dead body around his neck instead of his cross. Before he killed the albatross, he treats animals with careless thoughts as he just shoots the albatross because he feels fun doing it. After he had killed it, he realizes that he was wrong and his action was contradicted against Christians belief. Wearing the albatross on his neck symbolizes he is bothered by his ... Skeletal system organs include the bones, joints, cartilages, ligaments, tendons and teeth. Bones offer support for the muscles, protect our vital organs, and allow us to eat food. Our joints allow our body to move, twist and bend. Cartilage, like our ears and nose, offer soft structures that are more malleable than bones. Two separate bones are connected by ligaments, and bones and muscles are connected by tendons. Our teeth allow us to bite and chew our food. Our shoulders and hips allow our arms to move in circles. Our elbows and knees are hinge joints, which allow us to extend or retract our hands and feet. Our wrists and ankles give is the ability to move them in circles. Our fingers and toes are hinge joints as well. Every place in your body that moves, like your jaw, does so because of joints. 4. Ligaments Ligaments are made of fibrous collagen tissue. The purpose of the ligaments are to connect two bones to each other. These connects are located at joints, which control and enhance our movements. Our hips, shoulders, elbows and knees are connected by ligaments. People who are double jointed have ligaments that allow them to move their joints further than people who are not double jointed. 5. Tendons Tendons, like ligaments, are also made of fibrous collagen tissue. Tendons connect muscles to bones, which allow the movements of our muscles to cause our bones to move. When a muscle contracts, it pulls the tendon which causes the bone in the arm to contract. When we walk, lift items, talk or make dinner, we are moving our tendons. 6. Prior to this event, North American countries felt the need to implement new policy that would protect their citizens from criminal activity associated with acts of terror. In Canada, anti terrorism policy consists of three main components identified in the literature: 1) The criminal code and relevant violations; 2) Anti Terror Legislation; and 3) policy in practice. Argument Paper On Gun Control Position Paper on Gun Control While Americans were contemplating gun control proposals in the wake of mass shootings at a Colorado School, another gunman massacred 50 people in a club in Orlando. This incident brought heated political exchanges between President Obama and Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. It is estimated that in 2015 alone, there were more than 351 mass shootings in the United States. This is a worrying trend that should be reversed as soon as possible. Surprisingly, the trend has divided Americans into two groups. On one extreme end, there are those Americans who believe that the government should enforce gun control. On the other end, some Americans insist that stricter gun controls will not help in the fight against killings. In this light, this paper will try to provide a detailed analysis of the gun control debate while highlighting the various points made by the proponents and opponents of the gun control. The essay posits that gun control is counterproductive. The debate on gun control revolves around how the laws to be implemented will affect the acquisition of guns by the criminals as well as law abiding citizens. Gun control proponents are of the opinion that in the absence of gun control laws, criminals will acquire guns too easily. In the same vein, if all citizens are armed, criminals will have a greater incentive to acquire guns. Hence, there will be too many guns in circulation and crime cases will increase. Unusual behaviour, such as cross dressing can be seen as deviant in some places, criminal in others and acceptable else where. According to sociologist William Graham Sumner deviance is a violation of established contextual, cultural, or social norms, whether codified by codified by laws or not. According to Howard Becker 1963, defining deviance has is not a straightforward task. Deviance is not the quality of the act. Rather it is a quality of how people react to what you do meaning answering your phone in the street is acceptable behaviour and will not get a negative reaction, answering it in the middle of an exam is considered rude and will receive a negative sanction, possibly a few bad looks or exclusion from the examination room, answering your phone when in the witness stand before a judge may cause you to be held in contempt of court, possibly fined or jailed. Harbottle In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east of Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business and professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it states that if the alleged wrong can be confirmed or ratified by a simple majority of members in a general meeting, then the court will not interfere, cadit ... Victims between the ages of birth to 1 year old had the highest rate of victimization at 23.1 per 1,000 children of the same age in the national population. Neglect was the most prevalent form of child abuse, with 79.5% of child victims being made to suffer it. Physical abuse was the second most common form (18.0%). In 2013, a nationally estimated 1,520 children died from abuse and neglect. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2015). When reading these statistics, it is plain to see that the abuse and mistreatment of children is a critical issue, not just in the United States, but globally. Much research has been conducted to determine the general demographics of the perpetrators and the victims, common trends in cases of abuse that could shed light on the psychology of the abusers and their victims, and how the abuse inflicted on the victims affects their development into adulthood. • 23. Role Of Hassall s In T Cell Development Role of Hassall s corpuscles in T cell development Abstract After being first described by Arthur Hill Hassall about 170 years ago, Hassall s corpuscles raised curiosity in the minds of many researchers. These fascinating structures are located in thymic medulla and for a long time their exact function had been an unanswered question. Recent advancements in research has shown that they play a role in the maturation and development of thymocytes in thymus. They are known to express cytokines, chemokines and other proteins suggesting that they interact with antigen presenting cells and are actively involved in the development of T cells. Many diseases related to auto immunity were found to vary from the normal condition, in the context of morphology of these structures, making it important to understand the nature and role of these bodies in the human thymus. The review highlights some of the current findings related to the structure and function of Hassall s corpuscles throwing more light upon their role in the development of T cells. Introduction The Thymus is a pinkish, lobulated organ that is located posterior to the sternum. The main function of the thymus is to process lymphocytes. It is an organ that undergoes involution; around the time of puberty it degenerates. Thymic involution is important as it is believed to be linked to immunosenescence and its associated diseases. The Declaration of Independence is a statement from the colonial government wishing to cut ties with England and to be their own governing force. This is where new cells begin to divide, first forming brain cells. These brain cell originate from stem cells, which can be specialized into nearly any cell in the human body. Myelination is the stage of neuronal development that is initiated postnatally. After the baby is born the newly specialized glia cells begin constructing the fatty sheath around the axon, need for the speed and effectiveness of the neural transmission between all the neurons in the brain. Oligodendrocytes are responsible for the myelin produced in the central nervous system. It commences first around the spinal, ascending from the hindbrain structures to the forebrain. The Melians managed to question their rivals, but once the Athenians responded, there was no Melian rebuttal. To the question of how other neutral Greek city states might have reacted to Athenian aggression, Athens responded that any neutral sites that might have become hostile did not concern them. They argued that neutral city states either posed little threat, or were already under pressure to join the alliance. To this the Melians had nothing to say. They instead moved on to say that they would be thought of as base and cowardly should they have submitted. • 37. The I Set Out On A Road Trip racy and I set out on a road trip to Santa Barbara to do a little site seeing and have some lunch. Having left late, we were met by huge crowds and no parking. Wanting to enjoy some time away from home, we decided to continue up the coast and go to Solvang. As we approached Solvang, we saw the sign for Sunstone Winery. Having seen pictures and hearing about their cave, it didn t take much to convince us to stop and see what they had to offer. Driving up and walking through a vine covered archway, you are greeted by a French style Courtyards and a picnic ground where people are sitting around enjoying the outdoors with a glass of wine. To the right of the vine covered archway is a beautiful tasting room also reflecting the French motif. Across the courtyard are two large wooden doors on a stone masonry structure that is built into the side of the hill. This is the location of their barrel aging cave and is frequently used for special events by club members. Walking into the tasting room we were warmly greeted by the staff of Sunstone. As we approached the bar, Jonathan Flores introduced himself and asked if we would like to taste their wines. Who could refuse. Sunstone has 2 different tasting flights from which to select. They have the Classic List and the Reserve List to choose from. Sunstone s primary emphasis is on Rhone and Bordeaux with red varietals being their primary focus but they do have a very nice selection of white wines. Johnathan began to ... Use about half of an Alka Seltzer® tablet and record the mass. Close the test tube with the stopper with the tubing and tilt the test tube so the water and tablet react. When the reaction is finished, record the volume of CO2 recovered by lining the meniscus of the graduated cylinder up with the water level. In order to use the Ideal Gas Law equation, the atmospheric pressure of the room must be recorded from the barometer which was 0.9826 atm. The actual and theoretical yields can be calculated using the Idea Gas Law equation and the percent yield can then be determined. Finally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (see calculations above) It is necessary to adjust the height of the graduated cylinder when reading the meniscus to ensure that the water pressure does not affect the pressure of the recovered gas volume being measured. This would introduce a systematic error because the pressure inside the graduated cylinder would not match the atmospheric pressure no matter who did the experiment. More specifically, Heidegger believed that Fragment 123 of Heraclitus in which he mentions Physis has also been translated falsely, giving the words false definitions as well as false philosophical theories behind it. Traditionally, Fragment 123 is translated into that nature likes to hide . Instead of the traditional interpretation of how nature likes to hide, Heidegger believed that when Heraclitus mentioned Physis, he was referring to Being. More specifically, he was referring to Being in the Heideggarian context, which is referring to the appearing of that which appears and the occurring of what is. In other words, he was referring to things which are seeming and happening and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heidegger believed that being is unchanging, but change is becoming. In other words, being is something that cannot change, but at the same time, change is something that is heading towards a fulfillment, or a state of becoming in which no longers and not yets are changing due to their achievement. Likewise, Dasein is also becoming, but it is not actualizing. Dasein is trying to head towards its self fulfillment in which Daseins spend their entire lives trying to do, but are never fully able to reach the goal of self actualization. As a result, beings are something that are constantly being, while at the same time, constantly becoming, heading towards their self actualization. Heidegger additionally pointed out that what is no longer has to become, because it is coming into appearance. To put it in a different perspective, what is becoming is something that is something that cannot exist anymore, because it is heading towards its true self, and its ultimate demise. It is overall the appearance and the manifestation of something, it is something that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto Essay Donna J. Haraway s A Cyborg Manifesto Haraway s provocative proposal of envisioning the cyborg as a myth of political identity embodies the search for a code of displacement of the hierarchical dualisms of naturalized identities (CM, 175), and thus for the breakdown of the logic of phallogocentrism and of the unity of the Western idealized self. Haraway defines the cyborg as a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction (CM, 149). Her argument is introduced as an effort to build an ironic political myth faithful to feminism, socialism, and materialism (CM, 149). She claims blasphemy and irony as her vantage tools. Blasphemy invokes the seriousness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cyborgs are technological constructs and thus deny the logic of reproduction; they rather mock the masculinist reproductive dream (CM, 152). They have no memory of a primary state of innocence; they conceive of no Father s saving through the restoration of a garden they don t recognize the Garden of Eden in that they do not re member the cosmos (CM, 151). As they build no sense of community on the model of the organic family, they live outside the oedipal project they are wary of holism, but needy for connection (CM, 151). Though the offsprings of militarism, patriarchal capitalism and state socialism, they are illegitimate offsprings and thus unfaithful to their origins. The late twentieth century scientific culture in the United States has experienced three crucial boundary breakdowns: the boundary between human and animal is thoroughly breached the boundary between human and machine has become leaky and ambiguous the boundary between physical and non physical has become very imprecise in that the experience of fluidity and lightness made possible by signals and electromagnetic waves renders the physical both material and opaque, very near to quintessence. When boundaries are transgressed, the transcendent authorization of interpretation is lost, and with it the ontology grounding Western epistemology (CM, 153). If cyborg myth is about the transgression of boundaries, as Haraway seems to posit, it envisions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though they slimmed down dramatically they still managed to regain their title from Toyota. They are experts at what they make and I am sure they would use the slogan We re sticking with the basics. GM wants to down size the number of platforms they use so they can make the most out of the fewer platforms. 2) Based on the case, what is GM s vision? Do you think it is realistic? Explain. GM s vision is to make fewer platforms but use the same basic parts. One goal is fewer auto platforms. They made their plan they are taking away some of the platforms. They are carrying out the plan by cutting those platforms. They are controlling the direction by using the profits and going from there. They controlled the direction by improving the future for the company. I think they are using the Planning/Control cycle to the fullest. They are following the steps. 5) What did you learn about planning based on this case? Explain I learned that sometime you can not get ahead of your self. Just because the market is doing good does not mean you should make so many models. You never know when your industry is going to take a hit and when you have so many variations of one product it is hard to make each one better. Just stick with the basics. Make your fist model the best it can be and then move on. You need to follow the Planning/Control cycle. Make your plan, Carry out your plan, Control your direction by getting results, Take corrective action. Make sure you follow your plan and always have a back up plan! • 42. Saving First And Paying Cash Keep in mind that baby boomers were the first generation to grow up on television and credit cards (O Neill, 1991). Lusardi (2009) noted that most individuals deal frequently with credit cards and other forms of borrowing yet only a minority of individuals possess basic financial knowledge about debt. The previous generation used credit as the ultimate last resort while baby boomers were conditioned to be much more comfortable with credit. For many baby boomers, their idea of saving is buying more to receive a discount on the purchase. The concept of saving first and paying cash has been replaced with the concept of you can have anything your heart desires today as long as it is within your credit limit. More financial education in this area may be a way to prevent a future financial crisis. For immediate results, this education can be provided by financial advisors. As financial planners work with their clients to examine their income, expenses, assets and liabilities, the numerical ability of consumers can be enhanced, thus potentially reducing the number of future foreclosures on homes. The need for Financial Advisors The previous retirement plan that counted on employer contributions to a defined benefit plan and a secure social security benefit from the government is fading away. The foundation of a secure retirement plan will be determined by future retirees taking on much more responsibility. Retirement planning is an on going process with consumer needs constantly ... When new miners arrive in the town of Matewan, they are automatically in debt to the company store for the equipment need to begin working. Throughout the life of the coal miners they are at the mercy of the company s scams and whims. Coal mining is a dangerous operation; not only by chance of mishap, but the coal miners are in great risk of ill health due to the inhalation of coal dust, and the physical strain of working such a laborious trade. The coal company is insensible to the health concerns of the miners; individuals are irrelevant to the industrial company, and they are secure on the knowledge that a fresh supply of young, healthy, able bodied workers will fall into their grasp. The Stone Mountain Coal Company s monopoly over the resources of Matewan is compounded by the town s isolation. Matewan, nestled west of the Shenandoah Valley in West Virginia, is not readily accessible to the outside world; nor is the rest of the world accessible to the citizens of Matewan. The town is separated not only by physical distance, but also by a lack of technology. • 44. R-Type Pyocin Essay 1.5.1.3 R type pyocin: Therapeutic potential The potential of R type pyocin to be developed as a therapeutic was realized immediately after its discovery. As early as in 1967, Higerd et al showed that R type pyocin was safe to administer in animals [77]; it did not have a lethal effect on mice and rabbits when injected in high concentration intraperitoneally. Since then, six studies have specifically looked at the therapeutic potential of R type pyocins in animal models. Bird and Grieble, in 1969, injected an infective dose of P. aeruginosa into chick embryos, followed immediately by a suitable pyocin preparation, and found that a single dose of pyocin increased the survival of infected embryos from 3% to 46% [78]. The protective effect lasted for at least four days. Although these studies illustrate the potential of R type pyocins as a novel therapeutic, they were limited in scope and the authors did not quantify the assays, generate dose response curves, or optimize time and route of administration.
