College Student Involvement
Throughout my high school and college career, I have had the opportunity to be involved in a
multitude of extracurricular programs that has made my educational experience extraordinary. The
programs I was involved with at Boise High School include choir, basketball, sports medicine,
National Honor Society of Sports Medicine and National Honor Society. Outside of school, I was an
active volunteer in my community with the Idaho Humane Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Southwest Idaho, and the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho. I have continued this active involvement
throughout my collegeeducationby getting involved in multiple programs at Idaho State University.

Regarding The Topic Of Theism, One Must Take Into...
Regarding the topic of theism, one must take into consideration several factors when justifying or
repudiating its reasonableness due to its subjective and therefore controversial nature, it is quite
difficult to say precisely whether theism is justified or otherwise. Personally, I am not convinced of
either position yet, and as a recently converted Christian (in other words, I am still relatively new to
the ideals surrounding western theology) both arguments seem plausible and require further
thought. On one hand, theistic belief has existed for centuries upon centuries for so long, theismhas
ingrained itself into the cultures and lifestyles of those who believe in a higher power, with Sunday
becoming a holy day and holidays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanity has a clear desire to understand and have answers, and perhaps they turn to theism in
order to justify these ideas in which case, theism is perfectly justified. It yields its purpose to
explaining the wonders of the world. Today, individuals use theistic beliefs to explain
phenomenons such as miracles, personal revelations, and supernatural concepts rather than using
it to justify science and laws of nature as their ancient ancestors may have done. However, in any
case, both modern and ancient believers seek to know, and to live, beneath the surfaces of life, and
to be aware of the realities beneath the superficialities (Robertson Davies, The Lyre of Orpheus).
Indulging in theistic belief gives more meaning to life for these particular individuals, and perhaps
the common consensus of a widely accepted faith an organized religion and place of worship further
solidifies these beliefs. Additionally, several arguments exist in order to justify theism, including
the argument from design and the ontological, cosmological, moral arguments. Taking logical,
empirical, and moral considerations into thought, the philosophical justification of theism holds; yet
there are corresponding rebuttals that raise skepticism within my scientific self. For example, in
The Analogy of the Watch by William Paley, a hypothetical situation arises in which one finds a
pocket watch in the middle of the woods upon its discovery, one would figure that the laws

Meditation Essay On Meditation
Buddhist Meditation is a practice that consists of the channeling of the flow of the mind.
Habitually, our mind is consistently trying to create certain habits and patterns and many of the
time these patterns are developed without our knowledge. Yet, meditation makes us aware of these
habitual patterns through mindfulness, right concentration, and the middle way fostering the goals
of knowing the mind, shaping the mind, and freeing the mind.
One of the main goals of Buddhist meditation includes the idea of the middle way the creative and
outgoing counterbalance that transcends the two extremes of self punishment and overindulgence
of the senses. This is depicted in Chapter 1 of Sarah Shaw s Introduction to Buddhist Meditation,
where the ideal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mindfulness uses direct observation to see through perverted conceptions/views and invalidate
them, which leads to clarity of intention (the aim being to be aware of all experience). Right
Mindfulness incorporates being aware, scrutiny, and wisdom leading to what we refer to as
insightful meditation . Right Concentration, also referred to in the Eightfold Path, incorporates the
unification of the mind, settling, and tranquility leading to what we refer to as calm meditation .
The significance of these two practices are that they allow us to achieve the four factors for spiritual
growth: association with admirable people, listening to the Dhamma (the teaching of Buddha), wise
reflection, and practice in accordance with the Dhamma. Mindfulness is not simply an
incorporation of the body, mind, feeling, and Dhamma it involves distinguishing what is
wholesome and what is unwholesome, as well as the discernment of impermanence. The
contribution of such practices allows us to be aware of our habitual patterns and alter the usual way
that mind operates which produces dissatisfaction/ suffering with conscious

Surrogate Motherhood
In the past adoption was the only alternative for infertile women who wished to have children.
Advances in technology however have created new options for women who have a defective uterus
or defective ovaries. Two alternatives that are gaining popularity are straight surrogacy and host
surrogacy. In straight surrogacy, or traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated with
the sperm of the intended father by way of artificial insemination. In these cases, the surrogate
mother not only carries the child but is genetically linked to the child as well. She however
relinquishes her role of social mother to the intended mother. In host surrogacy the intended parents
produce an embryo through in vitro fertilization, which is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Such extreme cases however are rare and for the most part surrogacy is successful, with
problems being minimal. In fact research shows most cases are successful. In the largest and
most representative study of surrogate mothers so far, 34 women were interviewed
approximately one year after they had given birth. After handing over the child, eleven of the
woman experienced only mild difficulties, one reported moderate difficulty, and the rest reported
not having any difficulties. After a year only two reported experiencing occasional mild
difficulties, while the rest reported none. In none of the cases did any of the woman report
feeling that the child was like their own. As it was put by one of the woman, she never viewed it
as handing over the child, instead she considered she was handing back the child. Surrogate
mothers often report feeling a positive sense of self worth, that seeing their commissioning couple
s faces once the child is born makes the whole process worthwhile. Surrogacy has not only
benefited many couples hoping to have children, but surrogate mothers wishing to give the gift of
life to a child as well. Surrogacy however has also raised ethical questions in determining who
claims the right as the legal parent of a child, sometimes creating problems that can be difficult to
resolve. Surrogacy should therefore be

The Effective Managing Of Data
The era of digitalization considered the data as an important information asset that is required to be
safeguarded and stored in an effective manner to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and
availability of the information (Conklin, White, Williams, Davis Cothren, 2012). The effective
managing of data helps in accessing the accurate information at right time for organizational
decision making purposes to achieve the long term business goals (Conklin et al., 2012). New
innovations in the field of technology are used for carrying out research that resulted in entirely
new categories of data in boundlessly growing amounts (Strasser, 2014). Research projects includes
data in the physical and the digital form that are required to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is also needed to process the data effectively, make it easy access to primary data, to ensure
accuracy of information and to verify the data is adhere to the standards (Fisheries and Aquaculture
Department, n.d.). Data management resulted in saving time and resources in long term (Boston
University, n.d.).
Data managers are responsible for carrying out the data management. They could range from
researchers, graduate students, research assistants, information technology experts and research
librarians. These data managers are accountable for the dataset throughout its life cycle to guarantee
its functionality and proficiency for reusing the information during and after a given research
project is finished (Texas A M University, 2015).
History and evolution of data management The data management have been evolved over the
years in well defined phases. These phases are shown in figure 1. Figure 1. The evolution of data

Why I Want To Be A Death Metal Argumentative Essay
Death metal is an extreme subgenre of music relating to heavy metal.. It is heavily distorted and
low tuned guitars, sung with deep growling vocals and screams, minor keys, abrupt tempo, key, and
time signature changes and chromatic chord progressions. The lyrical themes of death metal are
often slasher violence religion (sometimes Satanism), occultism, horror, nature, mythology,
philosophy, and politics, and they may mention extreme acts such as mutilation, dissection, torture,
rape, cannibalism, and necrophilia. And most, if not all death metalbands tend to cause a lot of
controversy.
The death metal band from New York called Cannibal Corpse is as all American as it gets: They
test the limits of free speech by pushing the boundaries as far as they can get, and for decades
have lived their own American dream, living off the pay from the hardest way to make a living, a
heavy/death metal band that s very popular. Through songs such as Hammer Smashed Face,
Rancid Amputation, Mummified in Barbed Wire, and even darker songs such as Hacksaw
Decapitation, Blowtorch Slaughter, Cyanide Assassin, Necropedophile, Icepick Lobotomy (do I
need to continue), have managed to turn a lot of heads and not in a good way. Some parts of
Germany don t even let Cannibal Corpse perform. And Cannibal ... Show more content on

Research Paper On Fake Fashion
Introduction
When shopping online or buying items of luxury brands such as fashion items or cosmetics
items, and so on, you often hear the fake or super fake product. Many shoppers do not really
know that they are buying fake goods, and they think they are buying cheap goods. Fake web
pages are often filled with images and logos taken from the brand, besides, they also reduce the
prices for the goods. Fake goods are products which copy from famous brands and the user cannot
recognize, including the logo or the date of manufacture, the brand printed on the packaging. why
does the fake fashion exist?
Because many people buy it
Why do people know that it is fake but they still buy it?
Because they do not know they are hurting the brands .... In my presentation I not only want to talk
clearly about fake fashion with three main points below, but I also emphasize that fake fashion is
illegal and must be stopped. Hook
Body
When people buy fake products, they are supporting the fake industry which is stealing gray matter.
Imaging that the other take your ideas and earn money from them with the low prices and qualities.
That is a terrible thing with any designer and owner, because of building a brand s name they had
to afford and failed. It is not only just a name, but it also contains more core value and the fight of
the brand with other competitions in any time. They must be constantly trying new things and be

The Civil War Of 1861
The Civil War took place in 1861 and it lasted up until 1865. It was a war between the United
States or, The Union army rather, and eleven deep rooted southern states known as the
Confederacy. The Civil War occurred mainly as a direct response to slavery. The South preferred
to keep slavery and the North simply wanted to preserve the Union. However, there were many
other incidents that occurred and there were different battles that caused the Civil War to have
its end results. Those battles will be addressed in the following paragraphs. The very first battle
took place in 1861. It was known as both The Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Manassas. The
Union army, led by General Irvin Manassas, was slightly larger than the Confederate army, led by
P.G.T. Beauregard. It took place in northern Virginia when the Union army marched to Manassas
in attempt to attack the Confederates. The attack appeared to be successful, but the Confederates
managed to survive. They later went on to counterattack the Union and McDowell and his army
were forced to retreat back to Washington. This battle was very detrimental and overwhelming for
the Union army, and left them in a state of disbelief. However, in 1861 the Union were still able
to make substantial progress. They were eventually able to proclaim western Virginia a new
renowned state admitted as West Virginia in 1863. Shortly after the Battle of Bull Run, the war
took a turn in favor of the Union. A Union regiment directed by David

My First Day As A Server At Cafe Mac
Shoveling before Winter
I swiped my card at the information desk and walked in optimistic and excited for my first day
as a server at CafГ© Mac. Little did I know how much of my design OCD my job would trigger.
After an infinite three hours of standing, greeting and serving people I was asked to shovel heaps
of ice, and winter hadn t even started yet! The last hour of my shift at the cafГ© involved me
shoveling ice out of refrigerator deli cases, reeling the ice to the back of the kitchen, using all my
might to dump heavy baskets of ice into the sink and then the best part: running hot water over
the ice for over fifteen minutes to melt the ice. This was the first time I had seen water being
used to melt ice. Coming from a country with a huge water scarcity problem, I could not accept
that I had to waste such large quantities of water on my job. So I did the next best thing I could
think of, I talked to my adviser and checked if there was any way we could carry out this process
while wasting lesser amounts of water and I was shut down with the reply please do the work you
have been assigned . Another struggle I faced was that when I put the ice into the sink, I noticed
that most of the food that fell on the ice, clogged the sink. This was too cumbersome a job that
wasted too much water and something had to be done about it.
As I have highlighted above, the object I think that has both ethical has well as design related
problems would be that of the salad bar deli cases

The League Of Nations During World War I
The League of Nations was started after World War I to try to bring peace to this world after this
horrid war we had just been in. It was proposed by Woodrow Wilson, to the allied forces to join
in this league to use arbitration to make decisions on other nations matters so it can be solved
before they try to start a war. This might sound all well but if you think about it, it is impossible to
achieve world peace in general. The League of Nationswas a great idea but in reality the US should
not have joined the League of Nations. The League s goals included disarmament, preventing war
through collective security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation and
diplomacy, and improving global welfare. Despite these bold aims, the League proved incapable
of preventing aggression by the fascist powers in late 1930s. The United Nations effectively
replaced it after World War II and inherited a number of agencies and organizations founded by the
League. The opposition to the League of Nations comes from four sources: The extreme Socialists
and radical revolutionists who look on all measures devised by government as at present
constitution as capitalistic and as bourgeois makeshifts ; from constitutives who considers any
change as dangerous and revolutionary; from Republican party leaders who want to make political
capital against Wilson a democrat, and from those who believe in an extreme nationalism and who
feel that any international agreement will curb

Aesop s Fables
Introduction:
I chose to research the genre of fables, specifically Aesop s fables. I only informed of the basics
of fables. To be frank with you I don t even think there is much to know about fables. What is
there to know? They contain lessons, animals, and they are short. From time to time people use
them in their quotidian day to back up their opinions. Especially authority figures like parents,
teachers, and, well I can just think of those two. Personally I believe that Don t let things for the
last minute is their favorite one. Why haven t you done your homework? ... oh wait, that does not
apply to fables. Well in summation my knowledge on fables is very superficial.
The reason for me selecting fables is because they have an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

No joke, I love her. The whole process was a bit irritating but a fun experience.
Find:
What I love most about fables is that each one of them comes with a moral, the positive or negative
interpretation of a story that always leaves a life lesson. The reaction generated from a fable s
moral depends on the individuals knowledge about life; each person will interpret a moral
differently because each one has lived a different life. Fables are also carried on from generation to
generation and have a purpose that is to entertain. These short stories are made up with animals or
inanimate objects representing humans. Fables are used as a teaching tool for young children and
even for adults. According to some scholars Aesopcould have been African American because of
his many references to animals. ( Aesop Encyclopedia of World Biography, par 2). There are
many hypotheses on what or who Aesop could have been. There was also a rumor that he was a
slave and got free because of his extraordinary story telling abilities ( Aesop Encyclopedia of
World Biography, par 5). A fable is simply a synonym of allegory. Over the years fables have
maintained their position as a helpful tool to many teachers around the world to help students.
Fables continue to be very appealing to the public. They soon begun to disperse around the world
and started being translated in many languages. Considering my age, one of the fables that we,
teenagers, have to keep in

Hydraulic Fracturing
The Split Personality of Hydraulic Fracturing There is wide agreement among most experts and
the public that the current energy sources we use in the United States are in need of a replacement.
Reliance on the fossil fuels of coal and oil are problematic for at least two reasons: their negative
impact on the environment (both in extraction and their use) and the reliance on supplies of these
from other countries, which has created problems on the geopolitical front. Nuclear fission remains
a controversial alternative, considering the risks involved in a catastrophic meltdown and the lack
of a long term waste storage solution. The successful development of horizontal drilling by the
energy industry coupled with the existing technology of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what s problem? It is the coupling of the twin practices of horizontal drilling and hydraulic
fracturing that allows for the extraction of shale bound natural gas deposits. It is the combination of
those techniques along with the inherent properties of the shale and the natural gas bound in the
rock that has led to a maelstrom of controversy. Unexplained health problems, contaminated
groundwater, mysterious earthquakes, poisonous wastewater, and surprisingly increased carbon
footprint have all been linked to the modern practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. What
are the facts backing up those claims? Is fracking hazardous to our health? Before addressing these
key questions, the economic and geopolitical benefits of our natural gas bounty should be
examined. The economic and political benefits of increased natural gas usage are frequently touted.
Since oil imports account for about half of the U.S. trade deficit (Williamson) then any reduction in
our reliance on foreign oil would certainly have some impact. More significantly, as McGlynn notes
geopolitical turmoil has put foreign sources at risk (1052). Disruption of these sources, mainly from
the Persian Gulf, continues to haunt the foreign policy of the United States. Our continued
dependence on this Middle Eastern petroleum pipeline paints our nation s administrations in a
corner when taking a stand against human rights violations, rigged elections, and other practices to
which our

Monotheistic Religion In The Paleolithic And Neolithic Period
Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the
early phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and
bone artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock
structures. There was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived
a nomadic lifestyle, migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food.
Neolithic: The Neolithic period lasted from about 9000 b.c. to about 8000 b.c. It was the last phase
of the Stone Age; and encompassed the domestication of animals, the development of agriculture,
and the manufacturing of pottery and textiles. During this period people were beginning to settle
and develop a more sedentary way of life. With this type of life style came territorial issues,
meaning that because of the idea of settling and claiming land people would be more likely to
protect it or fight for it.
Monotheism: The basic definition of monotheism is the belief in one God. The opposite of
polytheism, which is the belief in many Gods, who each serve a different purpose. However, for a
monotheistic religion, the God is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful; this God would be the
sole creator and provider. There are three major religions associated with monotheism, Judaism,
Christianity and Islam.

Tackling Environmental Pollution with Green Taxes
Introduction Green taxes were introduced objectively to tackle environment pollutions. According
to (Fullerton, Leicester, Smith, 2008), taxes on things such as Landfill, industrial energy use (the
climate change levy), aggregate levy, motor fuel differentiation, vehicle exercise duty differentiation
and central London congestion charge had either been introduced or reformed in the past 20 years
to tackle environmental pollution. These taxes are called Green Taxes or Environmental Taxes.
Global warming has brought a big concern on environmental issues in many countries, including
U.K. Different studies have suggested the need for swift and urgent actions to alleviate the possible
costs of climate change. Introducing taxes so called environmental taxes, changes trade permits and
other economic measures might play an important role to achieve cost effective control of
greenhouse gas emissions (Stern, 2007)
Figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that U.K government collected
ВЈ41.4billions from environmental taxes in the year 2010 (Office for National Statistics, 2011),
rising up to 4.8% in comparison to 2009. This implies that environmental tax revenues have
increased exponentially year on year basis, causing doubts to consumers mind on two aspects. (a)

that a women s place is in the home is due to the most socially accepted and common career of

Court of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation of Probationary Period
A recent ruling by the California Court of Appeal clarifies when a government employer should
calculate the beginning and end of an employee s probationary period. In California Department of
Correction and Rehabilitation v. California State Personnel Board (2015) Cal.App.5th , the Court of
Appeal held that the first day of the probationary period should be counted when calculating the
probationary period, and therefore, any notice not properly served as required by statute within the
period is defective.
The case revolved around Appellant, McCauley, who was hired as a Correctional Sergeant at
Avenal State Prison. His new position began on December 2, 2008 and was subject to a 12
month probationary period before becoming permanent. On December 1, 2009, the California
Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) served McCauley with a notice of rejection
removing him from the position effective December 8, 2009. On December 2, 2009, another
document was served on him extending his probationary period until December 8, 2009.
McCauley contended the papers were invalid due to the CDCR s failure to comply with timing and
notice requirements in relation to the duration of the probationary period. He appealed to the
California State Personnel Board which agreed with him and revoked the notice of rejection. The
CDCR thereafter challenged the finding by filing a writ of mandate in the trial

serve wins the rally, no points are scored for either player, and the player who won the rally
retains the right to serve. Keeping the ball low and hitting it high gives the opponent time to get
to the ball before it bounces twice. Once the ball is in play, each player hits the ball back and
forth until one misses the ball, hits an illegal shot or goes out of bounds. The objective is earn
points or win the serve each player must try end the rally. To end a rally, a player s shot hits the
front wall at its lowest point, causing the ball to go out of bounds rather than bounce back into
the playing area; this is call a kill shot or a rollout. Rallies end with an error, or if the ball makes

variations. The key to a great shot is to grip your racquet firmly. Many shots will fall short
because of an improper grip and the racquet ends up at the wrong angle when it actually makes

The Influence Of Classical Greek Architecture In Carlisle
Classical Greek Architecture in Carlisle
The influence of Classical Greek Architecture on modern architecture is evident all over
Pennsylvania. Carlisle, in particular, is full of old buildings that utilize the styles of the Greek
Classical Period. The Old Cumberland County Courthouse is a perfect example of how the
architectural styles of the Classical Period have been carried out through time. This building is a
historical landmark, located in downtown Carlisle, which was built in 1846 and currently serves as
the housing of county offices (Cumberland Civil War). The columns and structure of the old
courthouse mostly follow the Corinthian order but are also influenced by the Doric order in its
simplicity. Both orders were used together to express the purpose of the building, which can be
observed just by looking at the building. The design and structure of the old courthouse may have
also been influenced by later architects such as Filippo Brunelleschi and Thomas Jefferson.
However, the classical styles of the building are obvious and reflect the building s use quite well.
The first noticeable characteristic of The Old Cumberland County Courthouse are its four huge
Corinthian columns. The column s base appears to be two stacked rings holding up the shaft, which
bears the flute and fillet pattern that is consistent with the Corinthian order (Fiero 124). However,
this pattern of flute and fillet can also be found in the Ionic order (Fiero 124). The column s vertical

Adjustable Speed Induction Motor Drive
PWM Adjustable Speed Induction Motor Drive
Abstract:
This paper investigates adjustable speed induction motor drive using 2 level and 3 level
PWM.The result obtained is verified using Matlab simulation. This result compares the hamonic
contect in between 2 level and 3 level by FFT analysis tool.To analyse the resulta a carrier based
pwm was taken using 2 level and 3 level topology and a threephase bridge convetor with internally
generated capability SPWM/SVPWM was intrduced. Carrier freqency18*60Hz, modulation index
0.9, output voltage freqency 60 Hz and ouput voltage phase 0 degre Was fixed. So corresponing
to above values, the motor speed was 1800 rpm. Or 188.5 radian/sec, hence torque is 11.87Nm.
A two pole squirrel cage motor was taken subjected to 400V dc source with modulation index0.9
prduces 220v rms.when motor starts, at 0.5s it reaches its steady speed 181 radian/sec or 1728
rpm. Now by discretizing the FFT tool displays the frequency spectrum of voltage and current
waveforms. These signals are stored in workspace in the ASM structure with time variable
generated by the Scope block. As my model is discretized, the signal saved in this structure is
sampled at a fixed step and consequently satisfies the FFT tool requirements. It was observed that
value of total harmonic distortion(THD) was 65.77 percent in 2 level and 35.11 percent in 3 level
for SPWM invertor and 56.77 percent for SVPWM invertor.
The pulse width modulated (PWM) inverter is the most

Different Cultures, Different Essay
Every society and culture has different ways of interpreting and defining occurrences by the way
their own culture or society functions. A society s culture, consists of whatever it is one has to
know or believe in order to operate in a manner acceptable to its members (Geertz 242). The rituals,
customs, ethics and morals that are attributed to the cultureshave caused these differences. To
understand how the people of one culture interpret a situation or event, one must evaluate the
attributesthat a culture has. The criteria that an event is based on changes as one culture applies
their own ideas to the given situation. Heroism and violationare two concepts that are easily
misinterpreted depending on culture s ideals. Since cultures... Show more content on

What tripped Cohen up, and with him the whole, ancient pattern of social and economic
relationships within which he functioned, was a confusion of tongues. (Geertz 241)
Geertz explains that the reason for the confusion, and the different interpretations of the event that
took place is a simple misunderstanding that when took place in clashing cultures with different
views, both striving to claim the situation in their own contexts became a somewhat humorous
event. This conflict between cultures causes a view of a person to change depending on which
point of reference they are being seen from.
In Ernest Hemingway s Indian Camp, the conflict between cultures again cause a difference of
views of the father. The concept of heroism and violation becomes the issue of conflict. The
father or doctor is considered a hero or a violator of the Indian woman depending on the culture
viewing him. From the father s culture, he is viewed as a hero for his actions at the Indian camp.
His actions are viewed as heroic under the circumstances of his procedure. Because of the culture
of the Indian people, having a white man, an outsider of the tribe, come in and operate on an
Indian woman is viewed as obscene and a violation of the woman not to

Short Story Monologue
Despite the speed demons driving, I had a fantastic time with my new friends. After exerting our
energy from walking around the mall, we stopped for a late lunch, before watching a movie
together, and headed back home. John invited me back to his apartment, yet I felt apprehensive
at the idea of being alone with him in his domain. Thank you, once again for taking me, I say as I
exit the car. Thanks for coming out with us, says Patsy. This time, I wait by the building door
and wave them goodbye before heading inside. As I skip my way up the stairs, ready to recap my
day to Alice, my phone shrills, causing me to pause just before my front door to retrieve it. Hey,
Alice. Hi Eva, I m just calling to let you know I won t be home... Show more content on

However, it dissipates soon after, leaving Alice s door intact. Invisible bands tighten around my
chest, making it impossible to breathe, I become dizzy from hyperventilating, I need to leave the
apartment, somewhat regretting John s invitation. As I manage to calm myself, allowing my
thoughts to run clearer, I realise the stupidity of spending the evening with John, enduring his
lingering stares, considering I m far from ready to attempt a relationship with anyone right now,
what with my wretched heart set on Angelo. Inside my bedroom, I remove my winter
accessories and leather coat, tossing them on the bed beside my bag and phone, and peer into
my washing basket. There isn t much in there, not enough for a full load, nevertheless, it will
take my mind off of Alice and Angelo for a while. I heft my washing basket and head down to the
basement where the washers and dryers live. No one knows who began the rule, nevertheless, the
unwritten rule is for everyone in the building to add money to the kitty for the machine s service
and purchase of the washing powder and dryer sheets. I plunge my hand into my jeans pocket and
dig out the loose change hidden within. Seventy one cents, not much, but at least it s something.
The cool, dimly lit basement remains just as neglected as the rest of the building. Cobwebs, long

Zindal Kordan Analysis
Nineteen year old Zindal Kordan stood at the window on the 409th floor of the unfinished Pax

When Zindal met his eyes, he was surprised to find sorrow there, actual sorrow. He said nothing.
The group of people lifted Zin from the table and lowered him into a narrow container. They

Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
Gun Control will NOT reduce crime
The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the constitution by the Second Amendment. Liberals are
looking to amend the constitution any way they can. They want to ban handguns or at least restrict
sales. Studies have shown that gun control cannot stop people from committing the crime.
While the Founding Fathers of this country were developing the system of government, as set forth
in the Constitution, many feared that a standing army controlled by a strong central government
would leave them helpless. The federal Constitution contained no provisions to prohibit a standing
army or allow states to create their own militias. The Constitution was signed by thirty nine men

Firearms are the most deadly instruments of attack. State constitutions of forty three states
guarantee citizens the right to use weapons in self defense. Most states with this law believe that
every citizen has the right to bear arms in defense of himself or the state. A study by the National
Safety Council shows that accidental death by firearms is near the bottom of the scale among
causes of accidental death. Accidental deaths involving firearms has decreased from three thousand
in 1967 to eighteen hundred in 1986, and is still decreasing (Gottlieb 16).
Gun control would not really reduce the rate of violent crime. Firearms kill Sixty percent of all
murder victims in the United States. Firearms injure another seventy thousand per year. Medicare
paid out 14 billion dollars last year for injuries involving firearms (Lindermann 1). Professor
Donald B. Kates said that a study conducted by the University of Wisconsin said, Gun control laws
have no individual or collective effect in reducing the rate of violent crime. The study considered
economic, demographic, and racial variables. Congressman Bill Goodling says that the willful
criminal is the real cause of most violent crime, not the gun (Gottlieb 18).
If a handgun ban were issued, there would have to be citizens that would comply with such a law.
In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a
gun than when he or she has

Alkaline Phosphatase Lab
This experiment has allowed the determination and calculation of different kinetic parameters for
alkaline phosphatase. First, it was necessary to generate a standard curve for PNP presenting the
absorbance as a function of the concentration of PNP since the remaining of the experiment is
based on measuring absorbance values of PNP. This standard curve is then a good tool to convert
those absorbance values into PNP concentrationvalues that can be used to study the kinetics of the
alkaline phosphatase enzyme. Once the standard curve was generated, an assay optimization was
performed to determine the best enzyme to be used. This was done through catalyzing the reaction
of conversion of PNPP to PNP by using different alkaline phosphatase concentrations.... Show more

First, we can talk about error in the standard curve made which could be related to measurements
of the absorbance leading to the equation of the straight line that could affect all of the
calculations. Another source of error, as mentioned before, could be in the choice of the alkaline
phosphatase concentration in B. Choosing a concentration that is not very accurate would have
affected part C in the experiment. As of what concerns future improvements of this experiment,
more standard dilutions could be used to generate the standard curve so that there is a wider
range of values of concentrations of PNP for a more accurate conversion from absorbance values
to PNP concentration values along the experiment. Furthermore, in part B and C more alkaline
phosphatase dilutions and more PNPP dilutions could be prepared for the same reason:
providing a wider range of values and therefore more accuracy in calculations. An addition area of
improvement could also be related to the preparation of alkaline phosphatase in the first, trying to
make a preparation that is as pure as possible for a higher value for the specific activity. Overall,
enzyme kinetics experiments have many complex parts that have different potential areas of errors
but also different areas of improvements as they are implicated in many fields of industrial
applications including experiments to

Providing the tools and systems required for leading a measurement managed HR architecture,
this important book heralds the emergence of human resources as a strategic powerhouse in
todays organizations. Three experts in the field outline a powerful measurement system that
highlights the indisputable role HR can play as both a prime source of sustainable competitive

This presents an interesting dilemma: The asset which is most important is the least understood,
least prone to measurement, and, hence least susceptible to management. He goes on to commend
the co authors of The HR Scorecard for three specific contributions: their development of causal
models which illustrate the relationship of HR value drivers with business outcomes and thereby
take the Balanced Scorecard to the next level of sophistication; their research on the drivers of
highperformance organizations to provide a framework to decision makers with which to formulate
and implement strategies for human capital growth; and finally, their insights into the competencies
required by HR professionals, competencies which can enabler an organization to deliver on the
promise of its measurement system. In essence, the co authors of The HR Scorecard identify and
explain linkages indeed the interdependence between and among people, strategy, and performance.
Only by understanding these linkages and their independence can decision makers in any
organization (regardless of size or nature) accurately measure the nature, value, and impact of
human capital on the bottom line. Moreover, decision makers can then make much more accurate

Wideman Vs. Limerick Essay
John Edgar Wideman s Our Time , and Patricia Nelson Limerick s Empire of Innocence , are two
very different stories about one particular theme. In these selections both authors are writing history.
Wideman is writing the history of his brother s life, and Limerick is writing the history of the old
west. Although the theme is the same, the two authors styles, methods, and writing concerns differ
greatly.
In the following passage from Our Time , John is visiting his brother, Robby, in prison. While

The variance between John and Robby s stories brings Wideman to the decision to write the
selection as both of the brothers recollections.
As Limerick tells the story of the old west, she explains, One skill essential to the writing of
Western American historyis a capacity to deal with multiple points of view (Limerick p. 504). She
explains this through many stories, including the stories of Narcissa Whitman, the missionary sent

tribe she was working with, and Julia by John Milleain of Virginia City. The Indians were looked
upon as beasts, and Milleain was praised by the respectable women of Virginia City. In
perspective, and in Limericks opinion, the Indians may not have been to blame, due to the fact
that they were merely protecting themselves from the diseases brought on by Narcissa that had
already killed every infected tribe member. Not to forget Julia Bulette s favored death just
because her profession was not morally accepted. These are the views referred to by Limerick that

herself as one who can complete any task and one who shows responsibility. Despite this, Disney s

College Accreditation
Pam: Are Online Master of Accounting Degrees Accredited?
Prospective finance students may be interested in pursuing an accredited Online Master of
Accounting. While an online education offers affordable flexibility, some students still worry about
the accreditation quality of their online program. Read on to learn about college accreditation for
accounting degrees.
Why Does Accreditation Matter?
College accreditation refers to the voluntary review of educational programs by independent
organizations in order to verify the school s academic quality and consistency. Colleges that
maintain accreditation from prestigious accrediting agencies demonstrate that their institution
continually maintains the highest learning standards. On the other hand, accreditation is also
important because it helps determine the college s eligibility for federal Title IV assistance, state
financial aid programs and employer tuition assistance programs. Additionally, recognized
accreditation is an essential requirement for graduate programs, college credit transfers and
professional licensure, such as an accounting CPA credential.

Ftp Impact On Society
The early 1930s was home to one of the most devastating times in American history. Many
Americans were unemployed, making little money, and struggled getting by everyday. One thing
that brought people together were the theatrical arts. The Federal Theatre Project (FTP) helped to
bring jobs and entertainment to people during the Great Depression. The FTP did many things to
bring theatrical works across the country, but the short span of four years questions its
effectiveness. The FTP gained government support and provided jobs for people seeking work.
With the government backing the FTP, there were sure to be political problems such as

Whistleblowing Legislation and Its Role In Corporate Governance
Whistleblowing occurs when an employee, contractor or supplier goes outside the normal
management channels to report suspected wrongdoing at work. A study indicates that no specific
actor dominates the revelation of fraud: short sellers and equity holders revealed the fraud in 9% of
the cases; financial analysts and auditors revealed 14% each; the Securities Exchange
Commission ( SEC ) accounted for 6%; the media accounted for 14%; non financial market
regulators 16%; and employees (whistleblowers) accounted for 19%. The United States enacted
sweeping legislation to protect whistleblowers after a series of corporate scandals, but more is
needed. Since whistleblowing plays an important role in the corporate regulatory scheme, this

In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea
of change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the
audience to convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape
meaning of change. In red dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people
around him, strengthening the theme of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog
(2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle
ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s life, and the people around him, especially
Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too. The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted
when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm with her family. The audience
sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and impacts the rest of the story.
The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the theme of loss. Not only in
dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The audience sees the
effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re home now boy
Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s voice, a
specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to the
audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the
use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will
cause a huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning
and Red Dog, the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to
create meaning and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these
themes and ideas can be better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme
of loyalty quite extensively in the first story. Biggie and Billy share quite a connection, For a while
my mother thought Biggie and me were gay The Turning (2004), the two went through high school
together, Billy pretty much wrote Biggies

What Are The Similarities Between King James Version And...
Be very sure of this people never reject the Bible because they cannot understand it. They
understand it too well; they understand that it condemns their own behavior; they understand that
it witnesses against their own sins, and summons them to judgment. They try to believe it is false
and useless, because they don t like to believe it is true. J.C. Ryle. Before I begin I would like to
say that I use both the King James Version and English Standard Version
. I have nothing against the
KJV and I believe it is an inspired word of God. The problem is I don t believe it is the only
inspired word of God.
Many will tell you that the KJV is the truest of trues and it is perfect and they may not be wrong. I
for one have nothing wrong with the King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So if I ve done my math correctly Paul most definitely didn t use the KJV to deliver his very
inspired messages sent from God. Most people using the KJV now are using a modern version
of the KJV, not the 1611 original King James. If it was the only inspired version why wouldn t
you continue to use it and not modernize it? If the King James Version was the only true version
would someone who was saved from a message delivered from an uninspired version have a
faulty faith and salvation? Now I don t know what translation the evangelist was speaking from
when I got saved but I would hate to believe that if it was not the KJV that I haven t truly been
saved all this time. You would assume that the translation from the oldest manuscripts would be the
most accurate but versions such as the ESV actually use older manuscript families than that of the
KJV. I fear for the intentions of the KJV only advocates, for I feel that many but not all, focus
more on the Bible translation and the persuading of others to use it than they do on the main
character and persuasion of others to follow

Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense
The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the
film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer
understand the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a
boy named Cole Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees
things that other people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see
ghosts, among people as if living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe
tries to help Cole with his problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other
patients, Vincent Grey, who was a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director
uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to construct the theme of communication within the
film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth Sensedirector M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing
to hint to the viewers what will happen next throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a
valuable tool more than just once throughout the motion picture. For example, in the beginning
Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home. Vincent Grey was a former patient of
Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that he had failed him and then
Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That would be a fatal
wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a flashback.
The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example indicates
that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only
person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to
communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see.
This is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe
only wore an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears
anything besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. Another foreshadow is in the
beginning, when Cole speaks to Dr. Crowe in the church he spoke in

Caesar Rodney Research Paper
Caesar Rodney, the first of the delegation from Delaware, was a native of that state, and was born
about the year 1730. His birth place was Dover. The family, from which he was descended, was
of ancient date, and is honorably spoken of in the history of early times. We read of Sir Walter
De Rodeney, of Sir George De Rodeney, and Sir Henry De Rodeney, with several others of the
same name, even earlier than the year 1234. Sir Richard De Rodeney accompanied the gallant
Richard Coeur de Lion in his crusade to the Holy Land, where he fell, while fighting at the siege of
Acre. In subsequent years, the wealth and power of the family continued to be great. Intermarriages
took place between some of the members of it, and several illustrious and... Show more content on

Soon after the settlement of Pennsylvania by William Penn, William Rodney, one of the
descendants of this illustrious family removed to that province and after a short residence in
Philadelphia, settled in Kent, a county upon the Delaware. This gentleman died in the year
1708, leaving a considerable fortune, and eight children, the eldest of whom is the subject of the
following sketch. Mr. Rodney inherited from his father a large landed estate, which was
entailed upon him, according to the usages of distinguished families at that day. At the early age
of twenty eight years, such was his popularity, he was appointed high sheriff in the county in
which he resided, and on the expiration of his term of service, he was created a justice of the
peace, and a judge of the lower courts. In 1762, and perhaps at a still earlier date, he represented
the county of Kent in the provincial legislature. In this station he entered with great zeal and
activity into the prominent measures of the day. In the year 1765, the first general congress was
assembled, as is well known, at New York, to consult

These cobwebs are most often found in cellars, under doorsteps and porches, beneath
floorboards or in piles of trash. In desert regions they can be found in almost any crevice in the
soil, as well as in cacti and agave plants. Chapter 17 Solitary Life Black widow spiders are
solitary, sedentary creatures. This means that they prefer to be alone, and they like to stay on
one place for long periods of time. The only time more than one black widow will be found
together is their during mating season. Chapter 18 The Black Widow Bite Upon getting bitten
by a black widow, you should seek medical attention immediately. In humans, bites produce
muscle aches, nausea, and a paralysis of the diaphragm that can make breathing difficult. Black
widows are nonaggressive and bite only in self defense, such as when someone accidentally sits
on them. Despite popular belief, most people who are bitten suffer no serious damage. Chapter
19 Fatal or Not? Although black widow bites can be fatal to young children, most people do
survive. If you think a black widow, or any other spider has bitten you, it is always best to remain
cautious and to tell an adult. Chapter 20

The Partition of India by the British Empire
The Pakistan
On August 1947, the British Empire partitioned the British Indian Empire into two autonomous and
sovereign nations, India and Pakistan. Instantly after the autonomy, both countries joined the
British Commonwealth. The autonomy of India and Pakistan made the between religious
viciousness of such greatness that trade of populace along religious lines turned into a need in
every nation. More than two million individuals moved over the new fringes and more than one
hundred thousand kicked the bucket in the spate of mutual brutality, that spread even past these
Territories. Significant brutality emitted succeeding the division of Punjab, Bengal, and Kashmir
which raised into prompting the first war between India and Pakistan. With aid and further United
Nations (UN) and Soviet Union s contribution finished the war however it turned into an until now
uncertain Kashmir question.
Taking after the freedom, the Pakistan got included in nonstop regional debate with India (in east)
over Kashmir and Bengal and with the Afghanistan (in west) over the tribal line. Its political history
has been portrayed by tyrant military standard and the short vote based rivalry between
conservative preservationists and left wing gatherings all around its history.

Section 2 Section 1
According to Article II, Section 2, Clause I of the Constitution, the President of the United States is
commander in chief of the United States Armed Forces U.S. ranks have their roots in British
military traditions, with the President possessing ultimate authority, but no rank , maintaining a
civilian status. What this means in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, refers to the President
as the commander in chief of the army and navy of the United States. What the founders meant by
this clause was that once war was declared, it would then be the responsibility of the President, as
the commander in chief, to direct the war. As with European monarchies, the position of the
American president as the nominal head of the armed forces is deeply rooted in traditions going
back centuries. However, there are limitations on the authority of the President and what he can
and cannot do, such as he can make the decision on the amount of troops are on the ground and
if and when the attack will began, but he cannot start a war without Congressional approval. A
Declaration of War must be passed by congress before any war can began. This is a checks and
balance system set up to keep one person from having too much power. And starting a war just
because he does not like how things are going.

Similarities Between The Pit And The Pendulum
The Spanish Inquisition was a holy and violent endeavor that was meant to convert non Christians
into Christians, but when some kind of rebellion or outburst took place, the rebel was meant with
force and punished harshly. The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe is undoubtedly a piece of
gothic literature taking place during the Spanish Inquisitionfollowing the imprisonment of the
narrator. Edgar Allan Poehas written many pieces about death and despair throughout his
impressive career. The Pit and the Pendulum indeed no exception to this literary trend. This specific
story takes place during the spanish inquisition and focuses on the narrator who is imprisoned and
tortured in a mysterious room. The Pit and the Pendulum has many elements of gothic literature
such as the setting and point of view, the aspect of fear within the novel, and the horrid presence of
death throughout the story.
The setting suggests the genre of the story to the readers from the very beginning.

conditions of mind I might have had courage to end my misery at once by a plunge into one of
these abysses; but now I was the veriest of cowards. Neither could I forget what I had read of
these pits that the sudden extinction of life formed no part of their most horrible plan. (11) This
shows how in the beginning there was the quick thought of a swift death, but by the end, the
narrator realizes that there is no way out and accepts

Argumentative Essay On Black Licorice
The US Food and Drug Administration warned on Monday against too much consumption of
black licorice, a popular Halloween treat. Consuming 2 ounces of black licorice daily for at least
two weeks can trigger arrhythmia and other medical problems, Healthday reported. The
regulator pointed out that glycyrrhizin, a compound derived from licorice root, can cause a
drop in potassium level in the body. It could lead to abnormal heart rhythm, hypertension,
congestive heart failure, lethargy, and swelling, the FDA warned. There will be no permanent
health problem if the consumption of black licorice stops. The warning is mainly for people 40
years old and above. Also for kids Even if it is mostly children who go on trick and treat during
Halloween to collect a lot of candies and chocolates, the FDA said its warning applies to all ages
if too much of black licorice is eaten. The agency advised people who experience muscle
weakness or irregular heart rhythm to stop eating the sweet immediately and contact a health
provider. It can also interact with some medication, dietary supplements, and herbs. Among men,
licorice can reduce testosterone levels, while for women, it may cause harm for those with a
history of estrogen dependent tumors such as breast or uterine cancer because of its estrogenic
properties. Pregnant women are also advised against consuming licorice because it can induce
premature labor. Folk remedy However, licorice is also used as a traditional or folk remedy in

  • 3. Regarding The Topic Of Theism, One Must Take Into... Regarding the topic of theism, one must take into consideration several factors when justifying or repudiating its reasonableness due to its subjective and therefore controversial nature, it is quite difficult to say precisely whether theism is justified or otherwise. Personally, I am not convinced of either position yet, and as a recently converted Christian (in other words, I am still relatively new to the ideals surrounding western theology) both arguments seem plausible and require further thought. On one hand, theistic belief has existed for centuries upon centuries for so long, theismhas ingrained itself into the cultures and lifestyles of those who believe in a higher power, with Sunday becoming a holy day and holidays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanity has a clear desire to understand and have answers, and perhaps they turn to theism in order to justify these ideas in which case, theism is perfectly justified. It yields its purpose to explaining the wonders of the world. Today, individuals use theistic beliefs to explain phenomenons such as miracles, personal revelations, and supernatural concepts rather than using it to justify science and laws of nature as their ancient ancestors may have done. However, in any case, both modern and ancient believers seek to know, and to live, beneath the surfaces of life, and to be aware of the realities beneath the superficialities (Robertson Davies, The Lyre of Orpheus). Indulging in theistic belief gives more meaning to life for these particular individuals, and perhaps the common consensus of a widely accepted faith an organized religion and place of worship further solidifies these beliefs. Additionally, several arguments exist in order to justify theism, including the argument from design and the ontological, cosmological, moral arguments. Taking logical, empirical, and moral considerations into thought, the philosophical justification of theism holds; yet there are corresponding rebuttals that raise skepticism within my scientific self. For example, in The Analogy of the Watch by William Paley, a hypothetical situation arises in which one finds a pocket watch in the middle of the woods upon its discovery, one would figure that the laws ... • 4. Meditation Essay On Meditation Buddhist Meditation is a practice that consists of the channeling of the flow of the mind. Habitually, our mind is consistently trying to create certain habits and patterns and many of the time these patterns are developed without our knowledge. Yet, meditation makes us aware of these habitual patterns through mindfulness, right concentration, and the middle way fostering the goals of knowing the mind, shaping the mind, and freeing the mind. One of the main goals of Buddhist meditation includes the idea of the middle way the creative and outgoing counterbalance that transcends the two extremes of self punishment and overindulgence of the senses. Mindfulness uses direct observation to see through perverted conceptions/views and invalidate them, which leads to clarity of intention (the aim being to be aware of all experience). Right Mindfulness incorporates being aware, scrutiny, and wisdom leading to what we refer to as insightful meditation . Right Concentration, also referred to in the Eightfold Path, incorporates the unification of the mind, settling, and tranquility leading to what we refer to as calm meditation . The significance of these two practices are that they allow us to achieve the four factors for spiritual growth: association with admirable people, listening to the Dhamma (the teaching of Buddha), wise reflection, and practice in accordance with the Dhamma. Mindfulness is not simply an incorporation of the body, mind, feeling, and Dhamma it involves distinguishing what is wholesome and what is unwholesome, as well as the discernment of impermanence. The contribution of such practices allows us to be aware of our habitual patterns and alter the usual way that mind operates which produces dissatisfaction/ suffering with conscious ... • 5. Surrogate Motherhood In the past adoption was the only alternative for infertile women who wished to have children. Advances in technology however have created new options for women who have a defective uterus or defective ovaries. Two alternatives that are gaining popularity are straight surrogacy and host surrogacy. In straight surrogacy, or traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated with the sperm of the intended father by way of artificial insemination. In these cases, the surrogate mother not only carries the child but is genetically linked to the child as well. She however relinquishes her role of social mother to the intended mother. In host surrogacy the intended parents produce an embryo through in vitro fertilization, which is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such extreme cases however are rare and for the most part surrogacy is successful, with problems being minimal. In fact research shows most cases are successful. In the largest and most representative study of surrogate mothers so far, 34 women were interviewed approximately one year after they had given birth. After handing over the child, eleven of the woman experienced only mild difficulties, one reported moderate difficulty, and the rest reported not having any difficulties. After a year only two reported experiencing occasional mild difficulties, while the rest reported none. In none of the cases did any of the woman report feeling that the child was like their own. As it was put by one of the woman, she never viewed it as handing over the child, instead she considered she was handing back the child. Surrogate mothers often report feeling a positive sense of self worth, that seeing their commissioning couple s faces once the child is born makes the whole process worthwhile. Surrogacy has not only benefited many couples hoping to have children, but surrogate mothers wishing to give the gift of life to a child as well. Surrogacy however has also raised ethical questions in determining who claims the right as the legal parent of a child, sometimes creating problems that can be difficult to resolve. Surrogacy should therefore be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is heavily distorted and low tuned guitars, sung with deep growling vocals and screams, minor keys, abrupt tempo, key, and time signature changes and chromatic chord progressions. The lyrical themes of death metal are often slasher violence religion (sometimes Satanism), occultism, horror, nature, mythology, philosophy, and politics, and they may mention extreme acts such as mutilation, dissection, torture, rape, cannibalism, and necrophilia. And most, if not all death metalbands tend to cause a lot of controversy. Research Paper On Fake Fashion Introduction When shopping online or buying items of luxury brands such as fashion items or cosmetics items, and so on, you often hear the fake or super fake product. Many shoppers do not really know that they are buying fake goods, and they think they are buying cheap goods. Fake web pages are often filled with images and logos taken from the brand, besides, they also reduce the prices for the goods. Fake goods are products which copy from famous brands and the user cannot recognize, including the logo or the date of manufacture, the brand printed on the packaging. why does the fake fashion exist? Because many people buy it Why do people know that it is fake but they still buy it? Because they do not know they are hurting the brands .... It was a war between the United States or, The Union army rather, and eleven deep rooted southern states known as the Confederacy. The Civil War occurred mainly as a direct response to slavery. The South preferred to keep slavery and the North simply wanted to preserve the Union. However, there were many other incidents that occurred and there were different battles that caused the Civil War to have its end results. Those battles will be addressed in the following paragraphs. The very first battle took place in 1861. It was known as both The Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Manassas. The Union army, led by General Irvin Manassas, was slightly larger than the Confederate army, led by P.G.T. Beauregard. It took place in northern Virginia when the Union army marched to Manassas in attempt to attack the Confederates. The attack appeared to be successful, but the Confederates managed to survive. They later went on to counterattack the Union and McDowell and his army were forced to retreat back to Washington. This battle was very detrimental and overwhelming for the Union army, and left them in a state of disbelief. However, in 1861 the Union were still able to make substantial progress. They were eventually able to proclaim western Virginia a new renowned state admitted as West Virginia in 1863. Shortly after the Battle of Bull Run, the war took a turn in favor of the Union. Little did I know how much of my design OCD my job would trigger. After an infinite three hours of standing, greeting and serving people I was asked to shovel heaps of ice, and winter hadn t even started yet! The last hour of my shift at the cafГ© involved me shoveling ice out of refrigerator deli cases, reeling the ice to the back of the kitchen, using all my might to dump heavy baskets of ice into the sink and then the best part: running hot water over the ice for over fifteen minutes to melt the ice. This was the first time I had seen water being used to melt ice. Coming from a country with a huge water scarcity problem, I could not accept that I had to waste such large quantities of water on my job. So I did the next best thing I could think of, I talked to my adviser and checked if there was any way we could carry out this process while wasting lesser amounts of water and I was shut down with the reply please do the work you have been assigned . Another struggle I faced was that when I put the ice into the sink, I noticed that most of the food that fell on the ice, clogged the sink. It was proposed by Woodrow Wilson, to the allied forces to join in this league to use arbitration to make decisions on other nations matters so it can be solved before they try to start a war. This might sound all well but if you think about it, it is impossible to achieve world peace in general. The League of Nationswas a great idea but in reality the US should not have joined the League of Nations. The League s goals included disarmament, preventing war through collective security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation and diplomacy, and improving global welfare. Despite these bold aims, the League proved incapable of preventing aggression by the fascist powers in late 1930s. The United Nations effectively replaced it after World War II and inherited a number of agencies and organizations founded by the League. The opposition to the League of Nations comes from four sources: The extreme Socialists and radical revolutionists who look on all measures devised by government as at present constitution as capitalistic and as bourgeois makeshifts ; from constitutives who considers any change as dangerous and revolutionary; from Republican party leaders who want to make political capital against Wilson a democrat, and from those who believe in an extreme nationalism and who feel that any international agreement will curb ... The reaction generated from a fable s moral depends on the individuals knowledge about life; each person will interpret a moral differently because each one has lived a different life. Fables are also carried on from generation to generation and have a purpose that is to entertain. These short stories are made up with animals or inanimate objects representing humans. Fables are used as a teaching tool for young children and even for adults. According to some scholars Aesopcould have been African American because of his many references to animals. There was also a rumor that he was a slave and got free because of his extraordinary story telling abilities ( Aesop Encyclopedia of World Biography, par 5). A fable is simply a synonym of allegory. Over the years fables have maintained their position as a helpful tool to many teachers around the world to help students. Fables continue to be very appealing to the public. • 13. Hydraulic Fracturing The Split Personality of Hydraulic Fracturing There is wide agreement among most experts and the public that the current energy sources we use in the United States are in need of a replacement. Reliance on the fossil fuels of coal and oil are problematic for at least two reasons: their negative impact on the environment (both in extraction and their use) and the reliance on supplies of these from other countries, which has created problems on the geopolitical front. Nuclear fission remains a controversial alternative, considering the risks involved in a catastrophic meltdown and the lack of a long term waste storage solution. The successful development of horizontal drilling by the energy industry coupled with the existing technology of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what s problem? It is the coupling of the twin practices of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing that allows for the extraction of shale bound natural gas deposits. It is the combination of those techniques along with the inherent properties of the shale and the natural gas bound in the rock that has led to a maelstrom of controversy. Unexplained health problems, contaminated groundwater, mysterious earthquakes, poisonous wastewater, and surprisingly increased carbon footprint have all been linked to the modern practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. What are the facts backing up those claims? Is fracking hazardous to our health? Before addressing these key questions, the economic and geopolitical benefits of our natural gas bounty should be examined. The economic and political benefits of increased natural gas usage are frequently touted. Since oil imports account for about half of the U.S. trade deficit (Williamson) then any reduction in our reliance on foreign oil would certainly have some impact. More significantly, as McGlynn notes geopolitical turmoil has put foreign sources at risk (1052). Disruption of these sources, mainly from the Persian Gulf, continues to haunt the foreign policy of the United States. • 14. Monotheistic Religion In The Paleolithic And Neolithic Period Paleolithic: The Paleolithic period lasted from about 200,000 b.c. to about 10,000 b.c. It was the early phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed a steady development of stone tools, antler and bone artifacts, engraving on bone and stone, and paintings on the walls of caves and rock structures. There was not much structure built or agriculture done in this period as the people lived a nomadic lifestyle, migrating with the herds of animals they hunted for food. Neolithic: The Neolithic period lasted from about 9000 b.c. to about 8000 b.c. It was the last phase of the Stone Age; and encompassed the domestication of animals, the development of agriculture, and the manufacturing of pottery and textiles. During this period people were beginning to settle and develop a more sedentary way of life. With this type of life style came territorial issues, meaning that because of the idea of settling and claiming land people would be more likely to protect it or fight for it. Monotheism: The basic definition of monotheism is the belief in one God. The opposite of polytheism, which is the belief in many Gods, who each serve a different purpose. However, for a monotheistic religion, the God is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful; this God would be the sole creator and provider. These taxes are called Green Taxes or Environmental Taxes. Global warming has brought a big concern on environmental issues in many countries, including U.K. Different studies have suggested the need for swift and urgent actions to alleviate the possible costs of climate change. Introducing taxes so called environmental taxes, changes trade permits and other economic measures might play an important role to achieve cost effective control of greenhouse gas emissions (Stern, 2007) Figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that U.K government collected ВЈ41.4billions from environmental taxes in the year 2010 (Office for National Statistics, 2011), rising up to 4.8% in comparison to 2009. Court of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation of Probationary Period A recent ruling by the California Court of Appeal clarifies when a government employer should calculate the beginning and end of an employee s probationary period. In California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation v. California State Personnel Board (2015) Cal.App.5th , the Court of Appeal held that the first day of the probationary period should be counted when calculating the probationary period, and therefore, any notice not properly served as required by statute within the period is defective. The case revolved around Appellant, McCauley, who was hired as a Correctional Sergeant at Avenal State Prison. His new position began on December 2, 2008 and was subject to a 12 month probationary period before becoming permanent. On December 1, 2009, the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) served McCauley with a notice of rejection removing him from the position effective December 8, 2009. On December 2, 2009, another document was served on him extending his probationary period until December 8, 2009. McCauley contended the papers were invalid due to the CDCR s failure to comply with timing and notice requirements in relation to the duration of the probationary period. • 21. The Influence Of Classical Greek Architecture In Carlisle Classical Greek Architecture in Carlisle The influence of Classical Greek Architecture on modern architecture is evident all over Pennsylvania. Carlisle, in particular, is full of old buildings that utilize the styles of the Greek Classical Period. The Old Cumberland County Courthouse is a perfect example of how the architectural styles of the Classical Period have been carried out through time. This building is a historical landmark, located in downtown Carlisle, which was built in 1846 and currently serves as the housing of county offices (Cumberland Civil War). The columns and structure of the old courthouse mostly follow the Corinthian order but are also influenced by the Doric order in its simplicity. Both orders were used together to express the purpose of the building, which can be observed just by looking at the building. The design and structure of the old courthouse may have also been influenced by later architects such as Filippo Brunelleschi and Thomas Jefferson. However, the classical styles of the building are obvious and reflect the building s use quite well. The first noticeable characteristic of The Old Cumberland County Courthouse are its four huge Corinthian columns. The column s base appears to be two stacked rings holding up the shaft, which bears the flute and fillet pattern that is consistent with the Corinthian order (Fiero 124). However, this pattern of flute and fillet can also be found in the Ionic order (Fiero 124). The column s vertical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adjustable Speed Induction Motor Drive PWM Adjustable Speed Induction Motor Drive Abstract: This paper investigates adjustable speed induction motor drive using 2 level and 3 level PWM.The result obtained is verified using Matlab simulation. This result compares the hamonic contect in between 2 level and 3 level by FFT analysis tool.To analyse the resulta a carrier based pwm was taken using 2 level and 3 level topology and a threephase bridge convetor with internally generated capability SPWM/SVPWM was intrduced. Carrier freqency18*60Hz, modulation index 0.9, output voltage freqency 60 Hz and ouput voltage phase 0 degre Was fixed. So corresponing to above values, the motor speed was 1800 rpm. Or 188.5 radian/sec, hence torque is 11.87Nm. A two pole squirrel cage motor was taken subjected to 400V dc source with modulation index0.9 prduces 220v rms.when motor starts, at 0.5s it reaches its steady speed 181 radian/sec or 1728 rpm. Now by discretizing the FFT tool displays the frequency spectrum of voltage and current waveforms. These signals are stored in workspace in the ASM structure with time variable generated by the Scope block. As my model is discretized, the signal saved in this structure is sampled at a fixed step and consequently satisfies the FFT tool requirements. It was observed that value of total harmonic distortion(THD) was 65.77 percent in 2 level and 35.11 percent in 3 level for SPWM invertor and 56.77 percent for SVPWM invertor. A society s culture, consists of whatever it is one has to know or believe in order to operate in a manner acceptable to its members (Geertz 242). The rituals, customs, ethics and morals that are attributed to the cultureshave caused these differences. To understand how the people of one culture interpret a situation or event, one must evaluate the attributesthat a culture has. What tripped Cohen up, and with him the whole, ancient pattern of social and economic relationships within which he functioned, was a confusion of tongues. (Geertz 241) Geertz explains that the reason for the confusion, and the different interpretations of the event that took place is a simple misunderstanding that when took place in clashing cultures with different views, both striving to claim the situation in their own contexts became a somewhat humorous event. This conflict between cultures causes a view of a person to change depending on which point of reference they are being seen from. In Ernest Hemingway s Indian Camp, the conflict between cultures again cause a difference of views of the father. The concept of heroism and violation becomes the issue of conflict. The father or doctor is considered a hero or a violator of the Indian woman depending on the culture viewing him. From the father s culture, he is viewed as a hero for his actions at the Indian camp. His actions are viewed as heroic under the circumstances of his procedure. Because of the culture of the Indian people, having a white man, an outsider of the tribe, come in and operate on an Indian woman is viewed as obscene and a violation of the woman not to ... Accidental deaths involving firearms has decreased from three thousand in 1967 to eighteen hundred in 1986, and is still decreasing (Gottlieb 16). • 29. Alkaline Phosphatase Lab This experiment has allowed the determination and calculation of different kinetic parameters for alkaline phosphatase. First, it was necessary to generate a standard curve for PNP presenting the absorbance as a function of the concentration of PNP since the remaining of the experiment is based on measuring absorbance values of PNP. This standard curve is then a good tool to convert those absorbance values into PNP concentrationvalues that can be used to study the kinetics of the alkaline phosphatase enzyme. Once the standard curve was generated, an assay optimization was performed to determine the best enzyme to be used. This was done through catalyzing the reaction of conversion of PNPP to PNP by using different alkaline phosphatase concentrations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, we can talk about error in the standard curve made which could be related to measurements of the absorbance leading to the equation of the straight line that could affect all of the calculations. Another source of error, as mentioned before, could be in the choice of the alkaline phosphatase concentration in B. Choosing a concentration that is not very accurate would have affected part C in the experiment. As of what concerns future improvements of this experiment, more standard dilutions could be used to generate the standard curve so that there is a wider range of values of concentrations of PNP for a more accurate conversion from absorbance values to PNP concentration values along the experiment. Furthermore, in part B and C more alkaline phosphatase dilutions and more PNPP dilutions could be prepared for the same reason: providing a wider range of values and therefore more accuracy in calculations. An addition area of improvement could also be related to the preparation of alkaline phosphatase in the first, trying to make a preparation that is as pure as possible for a higher value for the specific activity. Overall, enzyme kinetics experiments have many complex parts that have different potential areas of errors but also different areas of improvements as they are implicated in many fields of industrial applications including experiments to ... • 42. What Are The Similarities Between King James Version And... Be very sure of this people never reject the Bible because they cannot understand it. They understand it too well; they understand that it condemns their own behavior; they understand that it witnesses against their own sins, and summons them to judgment. They try to believe it is false and useless, because they don t like to believe it is true. J.C. Ryle. Before I begin I would like to say that I use both the King James Version and English Standard Version . I have nothing against the KJV and I believe it is an inspired word of God. The problem is I don t believe it is the only inspired word of God. Many will tell you that the KJV is the truest of trues and it is perfect and they may not be wrong. I for one have nothing wrong with the King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So if I ve done my math correctly Paul most definitely didn t use the KJV to deliver his very inspired messages sent from God. Most people using the KJV now are using a modern version of the KJV, not the 1611 original King James. If it was the only inspired version why wouldn t you continue to use it and not modernize it? If the King James Version was the only true version would someone who was saved from a message delivered from an uninspired version have a faulty faith and salvation? Now I don t know what translation the evangelist was speaking from when I got saved but I would hate to believe that if it was not the KJV that I haven t truly been saved all this time. You would assume that the translation from the oldest manuscripts would be the most accurate but versions such as the ESV actually use older manuscript families than that of the KJV. I fear for the intentions of the KJV only advocates, for I feel that many but not all, focus more on the Bible translation and the persuading of others to use it than they do on the main character and persuasion of others to follow ... • 43. Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer understand the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a boy named Cole Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees things that other people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see ghosts, among people as if living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe tries to help Cole with his problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other patients, Vincent Grey, who was a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to construct the theme of communication within the film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth Sensedirector M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing to hint to the viewers what will happen next throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a valuable tool more than just once throughout the motion picture. For example, in the beginning Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home. Vincent Grey was a former patient of Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that he had failed him and then Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That would be a fatal wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a flashback. The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example indicates that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see. This is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe only wore an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears anything besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. Another foreshadow is in the beginning, when Cole speaks to Dr. Crowe in the church he spoke in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Section 2 Section 1 According to Article II, Section 2, Clause I of the Constitution, the President of the United States is commander in chief of the United States Armed Forces U.S. ranks have their roots in British military traditions, with the President possessing ultimate authority, but no rank , maintaining a civilian status. What this means in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, refers to the President as the commander in chief of the army and navy of the United States. What the founders meant by this clause was that once war was declared, it would then be the responsibility of the President, as the commander in chief, to direct the war. As with European monarchies, the position of the American president as the nominal head of the armed forces is deeply rooted in traditions going back centuries. However, there are limitations on the authority of the President and what he can and cannot do, such as he can make the decision on the amount of troops are on the ground and if and when the attack will began, but he cannot start a war without Congressional approval. A Declaration of War must be passed by congress before any war can began. This is a checks and balance system set up to keep one person from having too much power.
