Newer treatments for schizophrenia symptom management focus on both the DA and the 5 HT
systems in an attempt to alleviate positive, negative and cognitive symptoms (Leucht et al., 2009;
Leucht, Wahlbeck, Hamann, Kissling, 2003). The 5 HT hypothesis of schizophrenia arose from
toxicologic explanations of mental illness that were popular in the 1950s (Osmond, 1958). Toxicologic
explanations received their inspiration from the observation that exogenous substances could produce
effects that resemble certain signs and symptoms of mental illness, such as hallucinations (Osmond,
1958). The 5 HT hypothesis arose based on the observation that hallucinogenic effects, such as those
seen with LSD administration, are mediated by 5 HT agonism, and hence, schizophrenia symptoms
likely arise from a similar mechanism (Baumeister Hawkins, 2004). However, in the 1970s, the 5 HT
hypothesis of schizophrenia was almost completely replaced by the DA hypothesis, only making a
comeback later with the proven effectiveness of the atypical antipsychotics, such as clozapine
(Baumeister Hawkins, 2004).
While the main action of typical antipsychotics is on the D2 receptor, atypical antipsychotics show
enhanced activity at 5 HT receptors with a low affinity for D2 receptors (Divac et al., 2014). Atypical
antipsychotics are more effective in reducing cognitive and negative symptoms and result in fewer

All eight studies were various in race, ethnicities, and genders. However, the most frequent
demographic in all the studies was an adult male.
The two case studies had very weak sample sizes (Jones, Barrowclough, Callott, Day, Earnshaw,

He found the history final exam on the ground. Good Guy also had good morals and values which
were challenged during this story. Everybody around him was begging and even bartering to try and
get the test. The text states, How much do you want for that test? The Rich Kid was willing to pay for

My Grandparents Speech
Many people only have the privilege of seeing their grandparents on birthdays and other holidays.
Luckily for me, I see mine almost every week. My grandparents, specifically my mom s parents, have
both played a large role in shaping me into the person I am today. My grandpa, or Pa , especially, has
been more of a father to me than my own. He has held an essential role in my life, and is continually
shaping me each day. My grandpa is a strong willed and old fashioned man. He likes to do things his
way. In addition, he always works hard and provides for his family. Throughout the course of my
rather short life, my grandpa has taught me many lessons. Here are three stories that stick out to me

family was there, as my grandpa decided to make a big purchase. He was buying a 2005 Chevy SSR
convertible, and five year old me was ecstatic. After a long night of waiting for all the details to be
worked out, the car was his. Me, being the bratty kid I was, jumped in and said, I get the first ride! On

48 Shades of Brown by Nick Earls is a novel that follows Dan Bancroft, the main protagonist, and his
troubling experiences as he goes through his final year of school. Dan is thrown into a world of
unfamiliarity, where he makes many comical and embarrassing decisions. This novel expresses the
theme of having or not having control subtly through the choices Dan makes, and their consequences.
This theme is also successfully revealed through the four elements; characters, plot, motifs and setting.
The relationships between the characters are vital to providing an insight into the theme.
In the beginning of the novel 48 Shades of Brown , the theme of having or not having control is
effectively demonstrated through the characters. When Dan is faced with the issue of living in a share
house during his final year of school, he begins to identify the struggles of surviving in the
unorganised environment. A situation where Dan lacks control is when Naomi and her boyfriend are
having sex in the room next door and Dan wants to go outside, but the floorboards (would) squeak so
they d know (p.19). Dan lacks control in this situation as he has no power over what is happening in
