Mentally Pampering Students Analysis
Implications of Mentally Pampering Students Over the past few years, the environment of American
college campuses has changed drastically. More so than ever before, students and faculty must be
extremely careful over their words and actions because of the recent trend of protecting students from
anything that can offend them or cause them discomfort. The young men and women who are
currently attending these institutes of higher learning will be the next generation of leaders in real
world politics and business and will be forced to deal with difficult people, opposing views, and
uncomfortable ideas on a regular basis. In order to deal with the inevitable difficulties that they will
face as professionals, their beliefs must be challenged and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tocqueville focuses heavily on equality, and at one point he connects equality to the principal source
of beliefs: I see two very clear tendencies in equality: one impels each individual towards new ways of
thinking, while the other would induce him to give up thinking voluntarily (Tocqueville 492).
Tocqueville would not be surprised to see what is happening at institutes of higher learning today,
since it is basically the shift in weight from the former to the latter. While these students could talk to
people who have different ideas in order to gain new perspectives or strengthen their own, they instead
choose to retreat into spaces where they can take comfort by avoiding uncomfortable topics and
protecting their own beliefs. A passage from Judith Shulevitz s New York Time article In College and
Hiding from Scary Ideas gives an effective example of the modern problem: At one point [a student
and sexual assault victim named Emma Hall] went to the lecture hall... but after a while, she had to
return to the safe space. I was feeling bombarded by a lot of viewpoints that really go against my
dearly and closely held beliefs, Ms. Hall said (Shulevitz 2). Instead of facing the painful situation and
ideas that conflicted her own, she returned to a space where no one would challenge her opinions or
make her think of distressing memories. Correspondingly, Tocqueville makes the remark in
Democracy in America that One of the distinctive characteristics of democratic centuries is a taste for
easy successes and instant gratification. This can be seen in intellectual pursuits as well as other areas
of life (498). In other words, people in America sometimes fail to see the big picture they tend to favor

Feminism In Pygmalion
Pygmalion
(...through a Feminist Lens)
Pygmalion was written to challenge the class system, traditional stereotypes and the audience s own
views.
To begin with, George Bernard Shaw was an early and outspoken advocate for the rights of women,
and as a playwright he created some of the most distinctive women characters of his day. He was
deeply influenced in this aspect of his writing by Henrik Ibsen.
This play deals with a lot many themes. To cite a few: Rewriting the tale of Cinderella and Sleeping
beauty, Class, language and phonetics and Independence.
From the very beginning of the play, we can see the unequal relationship between Mr. Higgins (the
man) and Eliza (the woman). This difference can be seen by the parallelism between these two ...

She retorts back by replying, You want me back only to pick up your slippers and put up with your
tempers and fetch and carry for you. Eliza is mere domestic helper for Higgins, a helping hand to Mrs.
Pearce even if Eliza can be much more than that. This is the crude reality of the patriarchal setup.
Women, how much ever is qualified, is better than the opposite gender when it comes to education, the
opposite sex will always take her as a house maid or a person working under him.
Eliza, in the climax scene vulnerably asks Higgins, why he made her a sophisticated Duchess if her
never cared for her, and why did not he thought of the trouble it would make for her, on which Higgins
shocking reply says:
Would the world ever have been made if its makes had been afraid of making trouble? (Act V, 127)
Making life means making troubles. He still finds faults with Eliza, you are an idiot I waste the
treasures of my Miltonic mind by spreading them before you. Higgins thus suffers from intellectual
snobbery. He belongs to the world of Shakespeare and Milton.
All throughout the play, Higgins behave rude with Eliza. Eliza, in the last act as a representative of all
women trapped in patriarchal setup says the below quote to Higgins, who is the representative of all
the patriarchal men in the

Perception is shaped by learning, memorizing, expectation and attention.
Perception involves these top down effects as well as the bottom up process of processing sensory
input. The bottom up processing transfers the low level information to higher level information
(extracts shapes for object recognition) the top down processing refers to a person s concept and
expectations (knowledge) and selective mechanisms that influence perception. Perception includes all
those process by which an individual receive information about his environment like seeing, hearing,
feeling, tasting, and smelling etc.
Perception is the process of interpreting the messages of our senses to provide order and meaning to
the environment. Among the most important perceptions that influence organizational behavior are the
perceptions that organizational members have of each other.
COMPONENTS OF PERCEPTION
Perception has three components a perceiver, a target that is being perceived, and some situational
context in which the perception is occurring.
A. The Perceiver
The perceiver s experience, motives, and emotions can affect his or her perceptions.

Jane Eyre, the Cinderella Copy Essay
Cinderella is a classic fairytale almost every person knows. Such recognition was earned through time
and it s originality. Yet from this well known tale, many stories have stemmed into their own
interesting aspects of virtually the same plot with similar characters. One of the related stories is Jane
Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Brontë uses the main character Jane as Cinderella who finds her prince
charming. Even though Jane Eyre contains more about human nature and less of magic, it still
resembles the Cinderella archetype through Jane s early life and her relationship with Rochester. This
does not, however, help Jane Eyre, but makes it cliché.
Jane s early life can be defined as the classic Cinderella case beginning with Jane s orphaned ... Show

Jane and Mr. Rochester follow this pattern almost precisely. They fall in love somewhat similar to the
way Cinderella and her prince: reluctant at first, then extremely passionate. After separating, each sort
out his and her desires and reason after being apart then proceed to find each other. Jane finds
Rochester rather than the prince looking for Cinderella, but the emotional evolution and plot is the
same. Also, the rich vs. poor aspect is existent. In the end, both stories end with hero and heroine
together in a happy ending. This closely entwined connection gives the reader a feel of unoriginality
despite the differences.
The hugely obvious parallels overshadow those differences. Symbolism and superior development of
characters are blurred together and covered by the relationship to the fairytale, which is easier to
analyze. The novel greatly suffers from the comparison to Cinderella. From Jane and Cinderella s
analogous background, the reader easily assigns a Cinderella personality to Jane on first glance due to
their similarities. The dramatic events concerning Jane and Rochester are perceived in a rather
simplified manner from the relationship to the fairytale. Cinderella and the prince do not undergo any
of the conflicts between reason and passion that Jane and Rochester battle, but it is overlooked when a
reader is involved in predicting the story from his or her

The Importance Of Acculturation In America
Acculturation is the process of how a person or a group of people adapt into another culture by taking
small pieces of that culture into their own culture. It is the idea of blend in with another culture, other
than your own. For example, my family and relatives came to the United States for a little over 10
years now and some of the family members have assimilated into the American culture by beginning
to celebrate the holidays, during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Further, we are remaining
embedded in the ethnic of being Hmong. Many of us decided to come to America to obtain a better
lifestyle, and the America society has greatly impact our life to assimilate into the American culture.
The society and community influence our behaviors of what we like, see, do and act as a child with or
without our parents authority. For instance, if the parents choose to raise their children in an urban
environment with a lot of opportunities to make money via street crime, then those young children
have a likelihood of becoming involve with that sort of lifestyle. Because the youngsters are pure and
innocent, they are sensitive to everything around them. They are conscious taking pieces of another
culture into their own and their lifestyle start to change, include customs, beliefs, behaviors, and value.
In addition, the parents choices and the community or environment have great influence on young
children s life and development. A lot of the products in store are

Reflecting Before My In-Depth Writing Course
Before taking this course in depth writing and research was a task I didn t have to perform often. As a
result, I never thought about the writing process or the details I put into a paper. E.L. Doctorow said
Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader not the fact it is raining, but the feeling of
being rained upon. Reflecting before my technical writing course I would have looked at this quote as
just another quote on the internet. Based off some of the lessons I ve learned in this course to me the
quote means when I m writing I should use concrete details vs abstract. Without the writer saying it s

Wild Bill Hickock was an Outlaw of the Old West
James Butler Hickock, also known as Wild Bill Hickock, was born in Homer, Illinois (now Troye
Grove, Illinois) on May 27, 1837. He was an outlaw of the American Old West. He was a skilled
gunfighter, gambler, and lawman, which are some of the many reasons why he is famous. Hickock
was born and raised on a farm in Illinois. He went west at the age of 18 in 1855 first working as a
stagecoach driver, then as a lawman in Kansas and Nebraska. While in Nebraska, Hickok was often
called Duck Bill . He grew a mustache and began referring to himself as Wild Bill . He fought and
spied for the Union Army during the American Civil War. wild bill.jpg On March 22, 1858, he was
elected as constable of Monticello Township, Kansas. A year later, he joined the Russell, Waddell,
Majors Freight Co, the company of the Pony Express. In 1860, he was seriously injured by a bear
while driving a freight team from Missouri to Texas. He found the road they were taking blocked by a
Cinnamon bear and its two cubs. He dismounted and approached the bear. He shot it in the head, but
the bullet ricocheted from its skull. The bear attacked, crushing him with its body. Hickock slashed its
throat with a knife. When the Civil War began in April 1861, Hickok signed up as a teamster for the
Union Army in Sedalia, Missouri. In September 1862, he was discharged for an unknown reason.
There are no known records of him for over a year, though historians think that Hickok was operating

Establishing Goals
John Green, one of my biggest role models, once said, Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia.
Nostalgia means something you long for, I long for a bright future. In my future, I desire to be an
author. In order to accomplish that, I must thoughtfully construct a plan that will lead me to the
ultimate result of the life that I crave for. Authors influenced me to want to become an author myself.
After reading a wide range of books by varying writers like Ned Vizzini, J.D Salinger, Natalie Babbit,
Mitch Albom, and as I said earlier, John Green, I am determined to leave that evangelical zeal that you
get from books, and only books, on my readers the way many books have done to me before.
Establishing goals is crucial to actualizing my dreams of having a gratifying career as a Young
Adult/Teen novelist. Knowledge is a key aspect when creating the goals that you will pursue because
it is extremely beneficial to know which universities you are bound to attend. For instance, my
university of choice is Columbia University of New York. I would like to study at Columbia
University because I am interested in the clubs and activities they have available there such as The
Artist Society Blog, Quiz Bowl, and Feminist Thought. Furthermore, Columbia University has many
classes and courses for writing. Defining clear goals for myself will motivate me to propel forward
with my endeavors. With a definite mindset of where I want to end up, a Point A to a Point B, it will
ease any stress

Civil Rights Movement During The Civil War
Civil Rights Movement With the winning of the Civil War still in the minds of many, conducting
interviews of previous slaves intrigued those wanting to know what it was like being a slave. With the
interview there is a look inside the life of, a woman still in her childhood, what her life was like, and
how she dealt with being a slave. The life of a slave was no easy feat, but with perseverance many
made it to the wars end, although life still has many hardships for the Freedman today. The interview
was given to Betty Powers by the New Deals Federal Writer s Project in 1936, quite a few years after
the slaves were freed. These interviews were given to give a look into the life of a slave, what they
went through, and the pains and turmoil that white people had caused. This interview just proved how
terrible and inhumane slavery was, and why it needed to be ended, although it caused the south to
completely change its ways in the Reconstruction Era. In the textbook there were views from both the
North and the South on slavery and its end. This article is on the view of the slaves and the North,
believing it was the right thing to end slavery, and that the color of your skin doesn t mean you aren t
human. On the South s view, they believed the opposite that African Americans were below the
whites, and were meant for harsh labor. The treatment of African American s thus leads to Reverend
Henry McNeal Turner to give a speech before the Georgia State Legislator in 1868, because

The Stereotypes Of `` Stuff Asian People Like `` And The...
Asians are typically loud especially when we are on the phone because we do not take insights of our
surroundings. This is one of the biggest stereotypes about Asians out there. According to a 2008 online
article called Stuff Asian People Like written by Peter; states that Asians tend to be loud due to
adversity. We were compared to the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf. Asians are actually peaceful
looking creatures who are soon to be evolved into creatures of such legends like Beowulf . According
to Peter, we are compared to Beowulf because when Asians tend to talk loudly, it is as if we are
screaming at the top of our lungs while trying to kill someone as Beowulf; a barbaric warrior would
do. Peter also states that Asians tend to speak out loud due to the fact that we are stressed out in life.
Peter is really basing this stereotype off of some kung fu movie, because we all know it is true that
when someone like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee starts fighting, they tend to pull out some loud grunts.
Also the article states that we speak loudly because we are not able to express our opinions due to
communism laying a barrier on our world and once we hit America, we are loud due to that barrier
being lifted. What a big load of lies. I say it is a lie because I used to visit my country of Vietnam back
then, and Vietnam is a huge communist country, yet I have seen many people especially other ethnic
Asians visiting the country talking extremely loud. Voicing opinions are one thing,

The Country Of Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico is an island that is impacted by not having enough land for cultivation. The Three
thousand four hundred and ninety two square miles of this island is about seventy five percent hills or
mountains (Worldmark Encyclopedia of the States b). With the large amount of land consisting of hill
or mountains, Puerto Rico has limited amounts of natural resources. While under Spanish colonial
rule, the island was largely neglected because of its limited mineral resources. Following the Spanish
American war in 1898, the U.S. took over control of the island. The U.S. found itself in control of an
island that produced small scale amounts of sugar and coffee. The U.S would then expand the
sugarcane operations and establish markets to use as a viable trade resource.
I will be discussing how the country of Puerto Rico s impact of resource scarcity, issues with
boundary delineation, separatism and sovereignty issues, poverty, migration, legacies of colonialism
and imperialism, global climate change and its impact. The once poor nation of Puerto Rico now
seems to be a stepping stone for trading in the Caribbean. With its location in the Caribbean, Puerto
Rico is a major asset for shipping lanes. One of the main reasons the U.S. wanted to take over this
land. Its geographical location is important in helping to move resources around the world, as well as
keeping an eye on Cuba. The economic system of

Software as a Service
Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged
applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their
computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP) was
introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the Internet
through a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of actions such as
rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs for the customers at
a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those scalability problems or
the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems eventually led to its downfall.
Software as a Service (SaaS) or also known as on demand then evolved from the ASP model. With
SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computer but in the provider s server somewhere else,
and to access the software, the customer needs to connect to that server through either a thin
client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another computer, or a web browser such as
Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Basically, it is also a software delivery model.
But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness and is a multi tenant based service which means
that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied once for all customers instead of one at a time, making

The emperor penguins are slow and dignified, it s a beautiful bird with a blue grey back that shades

humans in a interesting but different way. The Emperor penguins are near the top of the Southern
Ocean s food chain. Their varied menu changes with the season, some prey items are more important
than others. An adult emperor penguin eats 2 3 kilograms each day. When they need to be fatten up

These type of penguins don t have any symbiotic relationships with any organisms since they are the
largest of all penguins and live in the coldest climate on earth. When resources become limited,
organisms must compete for those organisms. Intra specific competition occurs between emperor
penguin species, when they compete for nesting areas. This event gets intense because members of the
same species share the same resources.
Emperor Penguins are basically endangered species because the majority of colonies will have lost
half of their populations by the end of the century. Every few minutes, emperor penguins leap out of
the water when they are seeking for food. They are preyed on by seals and other animals, where they
become vulnerable when entering and exiting water at the beginning and end of breeding seasons. The
Emperor penguins mainly feed on fish, squid and krill. They search for their meals in the open sea or
in the gaps in the sea ice. Like other penguins, they are expert swimmers, usually spending two and
half to nine minutes underwater while diving to depths of more than 400

Kidnap by Nikki Giovanni is a short poem about referring to her lover whom she has great desires to

Analysis Of Frederick Douglass s World Literature
Jenifer E. Forrest Leslie Lovenstein World Literature from 1650 to the Present Online 26 November
2014 Frederick Douglass: From Chains to Podium When a man grows up as an untaught slave in the
southern eighteenth century, he has no other ambitions than to be free. But for Frederick Douglass,
freedom was merely step one. Douglass began his life on a plantation owed from the moment he
arrived. He was not destined to stay put there. Born in (what he can come close to) 1818, he began life
out as a man in chains but ended up a respected wordsmith, but still apologetic for his short comings.
Douglass learned how to read, write, and give speeches; he influenced a nation for changes among
writers today; and he had different approaches to the era he lived in, but knew he wanted change to
exist among all. These things were needed to occur in order for the slavery and African American
society to be recognized as equals among all. His wit was not small nor was his leadership not seen as
defiance. Each step of his journey, brought him to a different place where he faced a challenge that
could not have been met any other way, but with strength and education where he was successful in
obtaining. Douglass was not only a speaker, but was an author of his time. Many colleagues wrote of
him and his life even after he passed away. In Douglass works he spoke of his ignorance and blunders,
but continued to sow his good seed. In the book The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas an

Children Of The School Age
Every child of school age, 5 18 years, in the United States, is required to be in an educational program.
Making decisions for one s self or for the wellbeing of another may require good common sense,
research and knowledge in order to settle on what is best. One important decision that most people
will have to make for themselves or another is about learning. Knowledge, behaviors, skills, values
and preferences are all associated with learning and may be acquired through education. In our world
today there are many ways to get an education: public school, private school, charter school,
homeschool, etc. Per the National Center for Education Statistics, for the fall of 2016, about 50.4
million students attend public elementary and secondary schools. An average of $11,732 per pupil in
public schools is spent from taxpayers. School aged children are expected by truancy laws, to be in
attendance unless their family has chosen another option. Another popular option for families is to
homeschool their student). Homeschool is a parent led home based education. Per research by Brian
D. Ray, Ph.D., there are about 2.3 million home educated students in the United States. An average of
$600 per student in homeschool is spent by families for their education. There are many advantages
and disadvantages to a student being enrolled in homeschool or public school but the overriding goal
for either is to create a learning experience to educate children. The learning

was forewarned and three times he did deny. What brought this prominent and mighty lear down was
not the conspirators as would seem to deem but as Jan Smuts states, A man is not defeated by his
opponents but himself.
In the Shakespearean tragedy Julius Caesar, the infamous Caesar is assassinated by those whom many
consider friends and even brother. Caesar is foretold by many the fate of his destiny. At the end, the
man who considers himself the north star in which Rome revolves around, and the cornerstone and
pillar of the edifice of the empire is brought low.
Everyone agrees Julius Caesar should have ignored the warnings of others; ... Show more content on

The night before the assassination, Calpurnia states... Fierce fiery warriors [fought] upon the clouds.
In ranks and squadrons and right form of war, which drizzled blood upon the capital. This dream and
the odd portents during the night became the second confirmation to Caesar of the events that would
take place if he proceeded to the senate. However, the voice of another darkens the voice of his wife.
And the once wise and noble Caesar is manipulated to his fall. Throughout the play Caesar is not only
deaf to those who care for him the most but the voices in which need his closest attention are
relinquished like words that drift through the air.
The third reason it is imperative for the emperor to regard the warnings is to strengthen character. The
last and final caution Caesar receives is in the streets on the way to the Senate, when he brushes aside
Artemidoro. However, this final plea is not enough to dissuade Caesar from going to the Senate. These
encounters reveal much of Caesar s character one in which lacked discernment. Faced over and over
again to evaluate and make the right decisions Caesar always makes the wrong one. Julius

The most important advances in Healthcare Science in the last 20 years and how one of these will lead
the way for the future of healthcare: Advances in Healthcare Science have allowed hospitals and
clinics to ease the treatment of their patients, as well as giving patients a greater number of options
when approaching their healthcare, as well as more efficient and effective care.
The Human Genome Discoveries (Cox, 2009), were a very significant breakthrough in healthcare. In
2000, scientists in with the International
Human Genome Project released a rough draft of the human genome to the public (Cox, 2009) and the
final high quality version in 2003 (National Human
Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), 2011) occurred, opening the doors to whole new possibilities in
medicine, with regards to genetics and gene therapy. The DNA sequence of the entire human genome
was pieced together after a greatly anticipated 13 years, which allowed scientists and biological
researchers to establish the genetic make up of proteins, which essentially make up the human body.
The Human Genome Project (HGP) sequenced only
euchromatic regions of the genome, which make up about 90% of the genome (En.wikipedia.org,
2016), which consists of, more or less, a majority of the DNA sequences in humans. Unlocking this
huge amount of biological knowledge was exciting, but definitely slightly daunting, as these DNA
sequences had to be identified in

Greek and Roman Architecture Essay example
Greek and Roman Architecture
Greek and Roman architecture is truly amazing. They each had great ideas, and fabulous productions.
It is said that the Pantheon is to Italy what the Parthenon is to Greece. Both are tremendous
monuments that reek of culture and history. Each had a purpose which was displayed by the design
and construction of each. There are such great meanings behind each of these architecural structures.
The Romans and the Greeks alike worshipped and dedicated their structures and designs to the Gods
and Goddess they believed in.
The Pantheon is a temple to all the Greek gods and goddesses. The Pantheon was a temple in honor of
the Olympic gods; in fact, the word pantheon is Greek for of all the gods It is the ... Show more

From the outside of the Pantheon the dome seems shallow and insignificant, said to be purposely done
not to ruin the suprise of the interior (Gilbert 379). It is only when viewing the inside that one can
truly appreciate the amazing architectural design and workmanship of this building. Another
remarkable attribute of this temple to the gods is that it is still in use today with much of the original
materials intact. The columns, the marble paneled walls, the floor, and the two enormous bronze doors
are all originals, making the Pantheon the best preserved surviving Roman structure. The Panthenon
can be viewed at the following site which shows many pictures of the interior and exterior of this truly

Dedicated to the goddess Athena, the warrior maiden, the Parthenon is a Doric style temple (Gilbert
368). It took about 15 years to complete this strucutre (Gilbert 370). A lot like the Roman Pantheon, it
had many columns surrounding the interior and exterior of this structure. This place was decorated
with many sculptures along the inner roof top. It was painted in vivid colors, such as red and blue
(Gilbert 370). Refered to as the cella its inner chamber housed the monumental statue of the Goddess
Athena. Pheidias hisself created this thirty foot high statue of Athena Parthenos, consisting of a frame
made of wood, metal, clay, and plaster.

Figurative Blindness In Oedipus The King
Although blindness and sight seem diametrically opposed, they are more similar to each other than it
would seem. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and literal
blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not understand
his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has suffered with his
whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more harmful than literal
blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him. Oedipus, even though he can
see with his own eyes, is completely clueless to what is happening around him in Thebes. First of all,
he thinks his parents are Polybus and Merope of Corinth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This illustrates the pattern of blindness that is prevalent throughout Greek plays. Literal vision is
clearly seen as not helpful unless you can actually see what is going on. Oedipus s figurative sight
comes from his understanding of his true parentage. And for him, receiving true sight necessitates
shaking off the distractions of literal vision. The second important problem with Oedipus s sight is that
it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of all, Oedipus questions the
blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes. Oedipus forensically questions
Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic.
Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine
1238). In reality, it is Oedipus who lacks sight and sense and Teiresias who possesses these in
abundance. Oedipus talks in the language of rational inquiry, of the courts and of those new sciences
that were already displacing the theologically based sciences that were already

The Characters, Setting, and Symbols of Heart of...
Beyond the shield of civilization and into the depths of a primitive, untamed frontier lies the true face
of the human soul. It is in the midst of this savagery and unrelenting danger that mankind confronts
the brooding nature of his inner self. Joseph Conrad s novel, Heart of Darkness, is the story of one
man s insight into life as he embarks on a voyage to the edges of the world. Here, he meets the bitter,
yet enlightening forces that eventually shape his outlook on life and his own individuality. Conrad s
portrayal of the characters, setting, and symbols, allow the reader to reflect on the true nature of man.
The two main characters in Heart of Darkness, Marlow and Kurtz are used to show the true nature of
man, that is, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is expressed at both the start and the end of the novel. The light of Marlow, and his subsequent
psychological awareness and evolution, is contrasted by Kurtz, who, as many have expressed, may
represent the dark half of Marlow.
Marlow s journey leads him in an urgent search for Kurtz, the one man who can provide him with the
truth about himself. Like Marlow, Kurtz came to the Congo in hopes to bring light and civilization to a
backwards society. He is a highly educated, refined gentlemen; yet, in the end, the brutal nature of the
Congo forces him to resort to the life of a murderer and pilferer. The name Kurtz itself has symbolic
meaning. The physical shortness in Kurtz implies a shortness of character and spirit (Heart of
Darkness: A systematic evaluation). Marlow and Kurtz both symbolize the two conditions of human
nature. Kurtz represents what man could become if left to his own intrinsic devices outside protective
society. Marlow represents a pure untainted civilized soul who has not been drawn to savagery by a
dark, alienated jungle. (Heart of Darkness: A systematic evaluation). When the two come face to face,
each man sees a reflection of what he might have become in the other. In Kurtz, Marlow sees the

The At The Charlotte Fine Art Gallery
Today started out like any other day. I had been working at the Charlotte Fine Art Gallery for over 6
months now. Before my College Graduation I had worked for the Fine Art Gallery as an Internship the
previous summer when they asked me to consider a full time curator position upon graduation. Debra
Collin, owner, of the prestigious gallery wanted a fresh new eye for up and coming artists locally and
nationally. She was a tough, sophisticated North Carolina socialite who had a passion for art but a
stronger desire to control those around her. She sported short, cropped, black hair, pale porcelain well
maintained skin and every day she wore a new couture black dress. Debra walked with a confidant
and cool demeanor. Her reputation for demanding perfection and deeply over critical nature preceded
her. However, when the curator position was presented to me, she assured me my creative eye and
instinct for finding new raw talent with innovative techniques would not be hindered. Debra would
allow me full creative control. I was thrilled at this prestigious opportunity and couldn t wait for
Graduation. Flash forward to the day several months later that would open my eyes to the reality that
what people say and what they actually mean are two entirely different things. Just because I had been
offered a certain position did not necessarily mean, I would actually be allowed to do my job without
some complications along the way. My role required that I find a fresh,

Native Americans vs Europeans
In the time of the American Revolutionary War, there were many differences that influenced how our
country turned out today. Most of the cultural differences occurred between the Native Americans and
the Europeans that had newly settled in what is known today as America. Some of the most notable
differences were those of religion, political, economic, and social. These differences divided the
habitants of America in several ways and formed many bonds but also brought them to many moments
of conflict. When the Europeans landed in America, they sought religious freedom and often tried to
convert the Native Americans. The Native Americans as a whole could not grasp the concept of
worshiping only one god . Native Americans believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the Powhatan tribe had traded its corn with the Virginia colony to show that they were
the more powerful force but this led to the First Anglo American War (1610 1614). When trading with
the Europeans, the Native Americans often contracted many foreign diseases; for example: smallpox,
typhoid, and dysentery. These diseases were often to blame for the Native American s losses during
the early settlement of the Americas by the Europeans. The more people that the Native Americans
lost, the weaker the tribe became and the easier it was for the Europeans to take over their land. When
Henry Hudson sailed up the Hudson River, he claimed land from the Mohawk tribe. This was in
exchange for fur, which established the Fur Trade. Producing only what the tribe needed allowed the
tribes to be self sufficient. The Europeans mass produced everything because they were focused on
exportation. The Europeans would focus on one single product to produce to export but then found the
need to trade with others to obtain what they needed to survive. An example is the production of
tobacco. The tobacco planters had need for more land. They slowly took over some of the Native
American land. The Native Americans got really upset and killed five hundred of one colony s people.
Some Europeans jumped the gun and decided to kill the wrong tribe of Native Americans and that
used to be friendly tribe retaliated. All this

Justice in movie Crash Essay examples
Justice in movie Crash
In the movie Crash, directed by Paul Haggis, John Stuart Mill s theories on Social Justice and Utility
are depicted within the context of the 20th century. Haggis representation of a multicultural society is
one built on racism and inequality, which limits the social justice people can acquire. In this film
prejudice and stereotyping are prevalent when discussing legal rights and moral rights. The social
situation has profound impacts on the choices people make. This society s foundation is based on
injustice, although in the end, justice is served through the concept of `justice of desert .
Social Justice prevails in society where legal laws are practiced and respected. It is considered unjust

In modern society it is a fundamental right not to be discriminated against based on race, ethnicity and
gender. This situation deprived the storeowner of his personal liberty subjecting him to social
injustice. The storeowner has not forfeited his legal rights by giving them up freely; he has been
unjustly deprived of them.
Further, the storeowner has been robbed of his moral rights also. A moral right is something that goes
beyond the law. If the law does not encompass someone s legal interests, it is considered a moral right.
Any owner of a store has the ability to withhold a transaction based on their personal discretion.
However, the transaction is only withheld because of his race this is an obvious intrusion of his moral
rights.
Another example of someone s legal and moral rights being withheld deliberately based on race is
Daniel s (Michael Pena) daily life. Daniel, who comes from an ethnic background, works overtime as
a locksmith so his daughter and wife can live in a neighbourhood without guns and the sounds of
bullets. Consistently throughout the movie we see his legal rights and moral rights considered invalid
because of his race.
In Daniel s first appearance, he is fixing someone s lock. He quietly works away, while the wife of the
house criticizes him. Yelling to her husband, that he is a gang member and that he is going to go and

using only deionized water instead of acetic acid (or vinegar) as we did in the previous lab by adding
acetic acid to zinc iodide. The purpose of this lab was to see how water created the reaction and
another compound or precipitate.
Focus Question: Zn(OH)2 was the product when zinc and iodine were reacted without the presence of
acetic acid in the water.

The chemical equation of the formation of zinc hydroxide after zinc and iodine react:
2Zn+I2+2H2O2Zn(OH)2+I2 2. When zinc hydroxide and acetic acid are reacted, the zinc hydroxide
dissolves and a clear liquid is formed which contains zinc acetate and water. Because zinc hydroxide
is amphoteric, it can either give or receive a proton. When zinc hydroxide reacts with acetic acid, the
reaction yields zinc acetate and water. The reaction is as follows:
Zn(OH)2 + 2CH3COOHZn(CH3COO) 2 + 2H2O 3. What is a side reaction?
A side reaction is an unwanted chemical reaction that diminishes the yield of the desired product. 4.
Acetic acid was used in the synthesis of zinc iodide because an addition of a weak acid prevents the
formation of Zn(OH)2 that occurs when zinc and iodine react with deionized water. The formation of
the precipitate inhibits the production of the product ZnI2 and may make it seem as if the basic law of
conservation of mass was not obeyed. Since acetic acid and water are both volatile, they can both be
easily removed from the solution by heating which would possibly leave behind more ZnI2 . When the
acid is not added, it is interesting to observe the Zn(OH)2 precipitate that is formed.
A New Inquiry:
What if we had heated this precipitate too like in the last experiment to remove all H2O from it?
Would the heating

Lessons Learned From My Peers
The first feedback I received from my peers was very crucial into the development in my final essay.
In my draft, I had two short essay. One about how dirt bike riding was important to me, and the other
on how someone who affected me wrongfully but developed me into the person I am today. Out of
five of my peers, they all chose the essay to do with my bullying. My peers thought that the first two
paragraphs on my essay needed to be taken out because it was lot of plot. They wanted me to get
straight to the point like I was in the third paragraph. They wanted me to make a stronger thesis and
install more imagery into the essay. My grammar needed improvement and so did my vocabulary.
They loved when I talked about how this experience shaped me today and how it has helped me a
better person overall. My peers noticed and really liked the fact that I mentioned that I am happy with
myself no matter what someone says about me. My instructor really liked the story of the essay but

good and it would look good in the eyes of colleges. One comment that was helpful was that I should

The feedback I did use was to delete the paragraphs that did not explain the story or were just boring
and just get straight to the point like I did in the last paragraph. I also decided to accept the feedback
on adding a specific event that had in my life and how it really changed me. I accepted the feedback
on adding stronger words as well. I denied the comment or feedback on how I should delete the essay
and start fresh because I thought this story had a lot of potential, which it

Analysis Of Feet First Into Hell
Feet first into hell , one of the many sayings that describe a battle that has an unpredictable outcome.
The screams of men bleeding from gunshot wounds and the vicious trigger happy soldiers firing away
their rifles at the Japanese soldiers. The sound of airplanes fighting in the sky and missiles whistling
their way down on the island blowing up multiple areas. The heart racing, horrified, and nervous
soldiers fought for their country. Soldiers having only the thought of, Am I going to make it home? .
Multiple American soldiers fighting this battle that would end the Japanese military from further
advancing their support with Axis power. Eventually coming to an end, and the American flag being
raised high. Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, the historical photograph taken on February 23, 1945 by
Joe Rosenthal located on Iwo Jima island, a distance away from Japan. As the island got quieter by the
minute and the count of live Japanese soldiers slowly decreased, six brave soldiers ran and climbed
the highest point of Iwo Jima. Their objective now? Securely raise the American flag to honor
America and the victory over the defeat of Japan. Throughout all the rubble and debris of the
destroyed buildings and weaponry, the flag of America is being raised. The background of this photo
sets the mood in a subtle way. What is viewable is only the sky with partially visible clouds and hills
that travel distances on this island. The mood gives a peaceful feeling as there is no visible

`` The Birthmark `` By Nathanial Hawthorne
Nathanial Hawthorne writes a compelling story about a recently married scientist whose wife has a
blemish on her cheek. The Birthmark written in 1843 is a critique of domesticity, feminine sexuality,
and perfectionism. Cindy Weinstein takes the stance that The Birthmark is a critique of feminine
sexuality. Weinstein suggests, A key reason, then, that Aylmer wants to erase the birthmark is that it
signifies a sexuality with which he is deeply uncomfortable (123). This argument is seen throughout
Hawthorne s story, but Weinstein s argument can be taken a step further to deal with the root cause,
control. Aylmer is disturbed with Georgiana s birthmark due to the fact that it signifies her sexual
desires that he is unable to control.
Aylmer realizes that Georgiana s birthmark is troubling soon after their marriage and intercourse
together. Not a single man in Georgiana s previous relationships has had a problem with her
birthmark, but now that she has had sexual intercourse, Aylmer cannot stop having thoughts about her
birthmark. Hawthorne writes, After his marriage, for he thought little or nothing of the matter before,
Aylmer discovered that this was the case with himself (1). After their intercourse together, Aylmer
unlocks her suppressed feminine sexuality. When he begins to realize she also has the desires, he is
uncomfortable because it defies the culture belief that women do not have these perverse thoughts. As
soon as Georgiana lost her purity, Aylmer

John Eldredge s Wild At Heart
The premise behind Wild at Heart by John Eldredge is simply put: astounding. A book that dives into
the male psyche of today. Who we are, why we re here, what we do; or sometimes rather don t do.
Wild at Heart works hard to break the stereo type of what men are taught to be by the world around
them, and in doing so, helps self diagnose why you, as a guy living in todays world, might feel
unfulfilled. Long story short, I feel as though Eldredge communicated the premise of Wild at Heart
quite effectively. The hypothesis is proved several times throughout the book, actually, each chapter
helps prove the belief. However, the three main points in Wild at Heart are the most potent. As men,
we are innately wired for adventure, bravery and beauty. So the main focuses in this book are as
follows: A Battle to Fight, A Beauty to Rescue, and An Adventure to Live. Somewhere along the way,
so many of us fall along the way side of these points. As Eldredge puts it, we hang up our six shooter
and cowboy hat and grow up just as the world has told us to do. We now see adventure as trading
stocks and going to meetings at a different coffee shop than usual. Society in large can t make up its
mind about men. Where are the real men? The world asks us. The answer that ... Show more content

degraded. Not even intentionally in most cases. Though, as stated in my opening remarks, the world
really can not make up its mind about what it wants men to be. Perhaps if the world could decide we
could follow that. However, in my opinion, it s better that the world not make up it s

Methods Of Controlling The Rotational Speed
2.1 ENHANCING TECHNIQUES
Controlling the rotational speed.
Tool design.
Post weld heat treatment.
Adding low melting point alloying elements.
Low plasticity burnishing.
Laser surface treatments.
Ceramic coatings by MAO.
By cold spraying.
2.1.1. Controlling the rotational speed
As we know that decreasing the rotation speed will cause the corrosion in the nugget region because
of the increase in anodic reaction and increasing the rotational speed will cause sensitised grains in the
HAZ region thus corrosion in HAZ region, hence an optimum rotational speed needs to be obtained so
that the corrosion resistance is maximum. In an investigation carried out by M. Jariyaboon et al. [2] on
the rotational speed of the friction stir welding of AA2024 T351 found out that rotational speed is the
main factor which determines the location of corrosion for welds. It was found out that for low
rotation speed the corrosion attack occurs in the nugget zone due to significant increase anodic
reaction and for higher rotation speed attack was in the HAZ region due to sensitised grain boundaries
in that region. Esther.T.Akinlabi et al. [12] conducted FSW and the influence of friction stir welding
processing parameters on dissimilar joints conducted between aluminium alloy (AA5754) and
commercially pure copper (C11000) was studied. It was found that the joint interfacial regions of the
welds were characterized by interlayers of aluminium and copper. The

The Culture Of The Thule Culture
The Netsilik are an indigenous community that are descendants of the Thule culture, they reside North
of Hudson Bay, just above the Arctic circle. They call themselves the Netsilik or people of the seal
because of their unusual diet (Young, 1970). In his video Young states that, The winter months for the
Netsilik people starts in September and last right up until June, during these months the temperatures
can range anywhere from 30 50 degrees below 0 (1970). During the 2 3 months of warmer weather,
the summer tundra remains wet, since permafrost not far below the surface prevents drainage
(Netsilik, n.d). This causes the Netsilik to migrate frequently.
Their first encounter of non natives was in 1890, a meeting that was brief but would provoke further
meetings until the twentieth century. Interaction with other civilizations would only prove to advance
their own, for neighboring communities like the Iglulik introduced them to more advanced weaponry
like the rifle which eventually replaced their standard harpoon; thus making hunting much easier.
Later on in 1920, trading posts were established, this completely changed their economy, for instead
of white fox fur trapping and trade, the Netsilik now would trade for additional items made by non
natives, including woolen clothing, tobacco, steel traps, fishing nets, canoes, tea, and canvas tents
(Netsilik, n.d). Adding these trading posts not only shows how adaptive the Netsilik are to other
cultures, but it allowed them

  • 2. Mentally Pampering Students Analysis Implications of Mentally Pampering Students Over the past few years, the environment of American college campuses has changed drastically. More so than ever before, students and faculty must be extremely careful over their words and actions because of the recent trend of protecting students from anything that can offend them or cause them discomfort. The young men and women who are currently attending these institutes of higher learning will be the next generation of leaders in real world politics and business and will be forced to deal with difficult people, opposing views, and uncomfortable ideas on a regular basis. In order to deal with the inevitable difficulties that they will face as professionals, their beliefs must be challenged and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tocqueville focuses heavily on equality, and at one point he connects equality to the principal source of beliefs: I see two very clear tendencies in equality: one impels each individual towards new ways of thinking, while the other would induce him to give up thinking voluntarily (Tocqueville 492). Tocqueville would not be surprised to see what is happening at institutes of higher learning today, since it is basically the shift in weight from the former to the latter. While these students could talk to people who have different ideas in order to gain new perspectives or strengthen their own, they instead choose to retreat into spaces where they can take comfort by avoiding uncomfortable topics and protecting their own beliefs. A passage from Judith Shulevitz s New York Time article In College and Hiding from Scary Ideas gives an effective example of the modern problem: At one point [a student and sexual assault victim named Emma Hall] went to the lecture hall... but after a while, she had to return to the safe space. I was feeling bombarded by a lot of viewpoints that really go against my dearly and closely held beliefs, Ms. Hall said (Shulevitz 2). Instead of facing the painful situation and ideas that conflicted her own, she returned to a space where no one would challenge her opinions or make her think of distressing memories. Correspondingly, Tocqueville makes the remark in Democracy in America that One of the distinctive characteristics of democratic centuries is a taste for easy successes and instant gratification. This can be seen in intellectual pursuits as well as other areas of life (498). In other words, people in America sometimes fail to see the big picture they tend to favor ... • 3. Feminism In Pygmalion Pygmalion (...through a Feminist Lens) Pygmalion was written to challenge the class system, traditional stereotypes and the audience s own views. To begin with, George Bernard Shaw was an early and outspoken advocate for the rights of women, and as a playwright he created some of the most distinctive women characters of his day. He was deeply influenced in this aspect of his writing by Henrik Ibsen. This play deals with a lot many themes. To cite a few: Rewriting the tale of Cinderella and Sleeping beauty, Class, language and phonetics and Independence. From the very beginning of the play, we can see the unequal relationship between Mr. Higgins (the man) and Eliza (the woman). This difference can be seen by the parallelism between these two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She retorts back by replying, You want me back only to pick up your slippers and put up with your tempers and fetch and carry for you. Eliza is mere domestic helper for Higgins, a helping hand to Mrs. Pearce even if Eliza can be much more than that. This is the crude reality of the patriarchal setup. Women, how much ever is qualified, is better than the opposite gender when it comes to education, the opposite sex will always take her as a house maid or a person working under him. Eliza, in the climax scene vulnerably asks Higgins, why he made her a sophisticated Duchess if her never cared for her, and why did not he thought of the trouble it would make for her, on which Higgins shocking reply says: Would the world ever have been made if its makes had been afraid of making trouble? (Act V, 127) Making life means making troubles. He still finds faults with Eliza, you are an idiot I waste the treasures of my Miltonic mind by spreading them before you. Higgins thus suffers from intellectual snobbery. He belongs to the world of Shakespeare and Milton. All throughout the play, Higgins behave rude with Eliza. Eliza, in the last act as a representative of all women trapped in patriarchal setup says the below quote to Higgins, who is the representative of all the patriarchal men in the ... • 5. Jane Eyre, the Cinderella Copy Essay Cinderella is a classic fairytale almost every person knows. Such recognition was earned through time and it s originality. Yet from this well known tale, many stories have stemmed into their own interesting aspects of virtually the same plot with similar characters. One of the related stories is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Brontë uses the main character Jane as Cinderella who finds her prince charming. Even though Jane Eyre contains more about human nature and less of magic, it still resembles the Cinderella archetype through Jane s early life and her relationship with Rochester. This does not, however, help Jane Eyre, but makes it cliché. Jane s early life can be defined as the classic Cinderella case beginning with Jane s orphaned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jane and Mr. Rochester follow this pattern almost precisely. They fall in love somewhat similar to the way Cinderella and her prince: reluctant at first, then extremely passionate. After separating, each sort out his and her desires and reason after being apart then proceed to find each other. Jane finds Rochester rather than the prince looking for Cinderella, but the emotional evolution and plot is the same. Also, the rich vs. poor aspect is existent. In the end, both stories end with hero and heroine together in a happy ending. This closely entwined connection gives the reader a feel of unoriginality despite the differences. The hugely obvious parallels overshadow those differences. Symbolism and superior development of characters are blurred together and covered by the relationship to the fairytale, which is easier to analyze. The novel greatly suffers from the comparison to Cinderella. From Jane and Cinderella s analogous background, the reader easily assigns a Cinderella personality to Jane on first glance due to their similarities. The dramatic events concerning Jane and Rochester are perceived in a rather simplified manner from the relationship to the fairytale. Cinderella and the prince do not undergo any of the conflicts between reason and passion that Jane and Rochester battle, but it is overlooked when a reader is involved in predicting the story from his or her ... The Importance Of Acculturation In America Acculturation is the process of how a person or a group of people adapt into another culture by taking small pieces of that culture into their own culture. It is the idea of blend in with another culture, other than your own. For example, my family and relatives came to the United States for a little over 10 years now and some of the family members have assimilated into the American culture by beginning to celebrate the holidays, during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Further, we are remaining embedded in the ethnic of being Hmong. Many of us decided to come to America to obtain a better lifestyle, and the America society has greatly impact our life to assimilate into the American culture. The society and community influence our behaviors of what we like, see, do and act as a child with or without our parents authority. For instance, if the parents choose to raise their children in an urban environment with a lot of opportunities to make money via street crime, then those young children have a likelihood of becoming involve with that sort of lifestyle. Because the youngsters are pure and innocent, they are sensitive to everything around them. They are conscious taking pieces of another culture into their own and their lifestyle start to change, include customs, beliefs, behaviors, and value. He was an outlaw of the American Old West. He was a skilled gunfighter, gambler, and lawman, which are some of the many reasons why he is famous. Hickock was born and raised on a farm in Illinois. He went west at the age of 18 in 1855 first working as a stagecoach driver, then as a lawman in Kansas and Nebraska. While in Nebraska, Hickok was often called Duck Bill . He grew a mustache and began referring to himself as Wild Bill . • 12. Establishing Goals John Green, one of my biggest role models, once said, Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia. Nostalgia means something you long for, I long for a bright future. In my future, I desire to be an author. In order to accomplish that, I must thoughtfully construct a plan that will lead me to the ultimate result of the life that I crave for. Authors influenced me to want to become an author myself. After reading a wide range of books by varying writers like Ned Vizzini, J.D Salinger, Natalie Babbit, Mitch Albom, and as I said earlier, John Green, I am determined to leave that evangelical zeal that you get from books, and only books, on my readers the way many books have done to me before. Establishing goals is crucial to actualizing my dreams of having a gratifying career as a Young Adult/Teen novelist. Knowledge is a key aspect when creating the goals that you will pursue because it is extremely beneficial to know which universities you are bound to attend. For instance, my university of choice is Columbia University of New York. I would like to study at Columbia University because I am interested in the clubs and activities they have available there such as The Artist Society Blog, Quiz Bowl, and Feminist Thought. • 13. Civil Rights Movement During The Civil War Civil Rights Movement With the winning of the Civil War still in the minds of many, conducting interviews of previous slaves intrigued those wanting to know what it was like being a slave. With the interview there is a look inside the life of, a woman still in her childhood, what her life was like, and how she dealt with being a slave. The life of a slave was no easy feat, but with perseverance many made it to the wars end, although life still has many hardships for the Freedman today. The interview was given to Betty Powers by the New Deals Federal Writer s Project in 1936, quite a few years after the slaves were freed. These interviews were given to give a look into the life of a slave, what they went through, and the pains and turmoil that white people had caused. This interview just proved how terrible and inhumane slavery was, and why it needed to be ended, although it caused the south to completely change its ways in the Reconstruction Era. In the textbook there were views from both the North and the South on slavery and its end. This article is on the view of the slaves and the North, believing it was the right thing to end slavery, and that the color of your skin doesn t mean you aren t human. On the South s view, they believed the opposite that African Americans were below the whites, and were meant for harsh labor. The treatment of African American s thus leads to Reverend Henry McNeal Turner to give a speech before the Georgia State Legislator in 1868, because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is one of the biggest stereotypes about Asians out there. According to a 2008 online article called Stuff Asian People Like written by Peter; states that Asians tend to be loud due to adversity. We were compared to the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf. Asians are actually peaceful looking creatures who are soon to be evolved into creatures of such legends like Beowulf . According to Peter, we are compared to Beowulf because when Asians tend to talk loudly, it is as if we are screaming at the top of our lungs while trying to kill someone as Beowulf; a barbaric warrior would do. Peter also states that Asians tend to speak out loud due to the fact that we are stressed out in life. Peter is really basing this stereotype off of some kung fu movie, because we all know it is true that when someone like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee starts fighting, they tend to pull out some loud grunts. Also the article states that we speak loudly because we are not able to express our opinions due to communism laying a barrier on our world and once we hit America, we are loud due to that barrier being lifted. Software as a Service Many years ago, to use software, businesses and organizations purchase traditionally packaged applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, and install them locally onto their computers. In the 1990 s, upon the expansion of the Internet, Application Service Provider (ASP) was introduced wherein businesses were provided with software that they can access over the Internet through a web browser. But then, service and financial failures occurred as a result of actions such as rushing the market offerings before issues were solved and failing to cut the costs for the customers at a greater extent because of having a unique server for each customer. Those scalability problems or the ability to adapt to increasing demands, and reliability problems eventually led to its downfall. Software as a Service (SaaS) or also known as on demand then evolved from the ASP model. With SaaS, software is not installed in the customer s computer but in the provider s server somewhere else, and to access the software, the customer needs to connect to that server through either a thin client, which is a computer or a program that relies on another computer, or a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. Basically, it is also a software delivery model. But unlike the ASP, it has increased user awareness and is a multi tenant based service which means that repairs, updates, and upgrades are applied once for all customers instead of one at a time, making ... Forrest Leslie Lovenstein World Literature from 1650 to the Present Online 26 November 2014 Frederick Douglass: From Chains to Podium When a man grows up as an untaught slave in the southern eighteenth century, he has no other ambitions than to be free. But for Frederick Douglass, freedom was merely step one. Douglass began his life on a plantation owed from the moment he arrived. He was not destined to stay put there. Born in (what he can come close to) 1818, he began life out as a man in chains but ended up a respected wordsmith, but still apologetic for his short comings. Douglass learned how to read, write, and give speeches; he influenced a nation for changes among writers today; and he had different approaches to the era he lived in, but knew he wanted change to exist among all. These things were needed to occur in order for the slavery and African American society to be recognized as equals among all. His wit was not small nor was his leadership not seen as defiance. Each step of his journey, brought him to a different place where he faced a challenge that could not have been met any other way, but with strength and education where he was successful in obtaining. Douglass was not only a speaker, but was an author of his time. Many colleagues wrote of him and his life even after he passed away. In Douglass works he spoke of his ignorance and blunders, but continued to sow his good seed. In the book The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, the relationship between figurative blindness and literal blindness is portrayed. In the play, figurative blindness is what Oedipus has as he does not understand his parentage and the prophecy of his doom. Literal blindness is what Teiresias has suffered with his whole life. Sophocles proves in the play that figurative blindness is far more harmful than literal blindness due to the unwarranted sense of control that sight gives him. The second important problem with Oedipus s sight is that it gives him a sense of control and a strong feeling of arrogance. First of all, Oedipus questions the blind prophet Teiresias about why the plague is devastating Thebes. Oedipus forensically questions Teiresias like he understands what is happening, when that is clearly inaccurate and in fact very ironic. Oedipus says very ironically to Teiresias, You sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man (Perrine 1238). Because zinc hydroxide is amphoteric, it can either give or receive a proton. When zinc hydroxide reacts with acetic acid, the reaction yields zinc acetate and water. The reaction is as follows: Zn(OH)2 + 2CH3COOHZn(CH3COO) 2 + 2H2O 3. What is a side reaction? A side reaction is an unwanted chemical reaction that diminishes the yield of the desired product. 4. Acetic acid was used in the synthesis of zinc iodide because an addition of a weak acid prevents the formation of Zn(OH)2 that occurs when zinc and iodine react with deionized water. The formation of the precipitate inhibits the production of the product ZnI2 and may make it seem as if the basic law of conservation of mass was not obeyed. Since acetic acid and water are both volatile, they can both be easily removed from the solution by heating which would possibly leave behind more ZnI2 . When the acid is not added, it is interesting to observe the Zn(OH)2 precipitate that is formed. A New Inquiry: What if we had heated this precipitate too like in the last experiment to remove all H2O from it? Would the heating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Lessons Learned From My Peers The first feedback I received from my peers was very crucial into the development in my final essay. In my draft, I had two short essay. One about how dirt bike riding was important to me, and the other on how someone who affected me wrongfully but developed me into the person I am today. Out of five of my peers, they all chose the essay to do with my bullying. My peers thought that the first two paragraphs on my essay needed to be taken out because it was lot of plot. They wanted me to get straight to the point like I was in the third paragraph. They wanted me to make a stronger thesis and install more imagery into the essay. My grammar needed improvement and so did my vocabulary. They loved when I talked about how this experience shaped me today and how it has helped me a better person overall. My peers noticed and really liked the fact that I mentioned that I am happy with myself no matter what someone says about me. My instructor really liked the story of the essay but really wanted me to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought this feedback was not helpful at all and very opinionated. I think that my story was very good and it would look good in the eyes of colleges. One comment that was helpful was that I should add a specific event. This helped me narrow my essay from a broader topic to a more detailed one. The feedback I did use was to delete the paragraphs that did not explain the story or were just boring and just get straight to the point like I did in the last paragraph. I also decided to accept the feedback on adding a specific event that had in my life and how it really changed me. I accepted the feedback on adding stronger words as well. I denied the comment or feedback on how I should delete the essay and start fresh because I thought this story had a lot of potential, which it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Analysis Of Feet First Into Hell Feet first into hell , one of the many sayings that describe a battle that has an unpredictable outcome. The screams of men bleeding from gunshot wounds and the vicious trigger happy soldiers firing away their rifles at the Japanese soldiers. The sound of airplanes fighting in the sky and missiles whistling their way down on the island blowing up multiple areas. The heart racing, horrified, and nervous soldiers fought for their country. Soldiers having only the thought of, Am I going to make it home? . Multiple American soldiers fighting this battle that would end the Japanese military from further advancing their support with Axis power. Eventually coming to an end, and the American flag being raised high. Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, the historical photograph taken on February 23, 1945 by Joe Rosenthal located on Iwo Jima island, a distance away from Japan. As the island got quieter by the minute and the count of live Japanese soldiers slowly decreased, six brave soldiers ran and climbed the highest point of Iwo Jima. Their objective now? Securely raise the American flag to honor America and the victory over the defeat of Japan. Throughout all the rubble and debris of the destroyed buildings and weaponry, the flag of America is being raised. The background of this photo sets the mood in a subtle way. What is viewable is only the sky with partially visible clouds and hills that travel distances on this island. The mood gives a peaceful feeling as there is no visible ... • 34. `` The Birthmark `` By Nathanial Hawthorne Nathanial Hawthorne writes a compelling story about a recently married scientist whose wife has a blemish on her cheek. The Birthmark written in 1843 is a critique of domesticity, feminine sexuality, and perfectionism. Cindy Weinstein takes the stance that The Birthmark is a critique of feminine sexuality. Weinstein suggests, A key reason, then, that Aylmer wants to erase the birthmark is that it signifies a sexuality with which he is deeply uncomfortable (123). This argument is seen throughout Hawthorne s story, but Weinstein s argument can be taken a step further to deal with the root cause, control. Aylmer is disturbed with Georgiana s birthmark due to the fact that it signifies her sexual desires that he is unable to control. Aylmer realizes that Georgiana s birthmark is troubling soon after their marriage and intercourse together. Not a single man in Georgiana s previous relationships has had a problem with her birthmark, but now that she has had sexual intercourse, Aylmer cannot stop having thoughts about her birthmark. Hawthorne writes, After his marriage, for he thought little or nothing of the matter before, Aylmer discovered that this was the case with himself (1). After their intercourse together, Aylmer unlocks her suppressed feminine sexuality. When he begins to realize she also has the desires, he is uncomfortable because it defies the culture belief that women do not have these perverse thoughts. As soon as Georgiana lost her purity, Aylmer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. John Eldredge s Wild At Heart The premise behind Wild at Heart by John Eldredge is simply put: astounding. A book that dives into the male psyche of today. Who we are, why we re here, what we do; or sometimes rather don t do. Wild at Heart works hard to break the stereo type of what men are taught to be by the world around them, and in doing so, helps self diagnose why you, as a guy living in todays world, might feel unfulfilled. Long story short, I feel as though Eldredge communicated the premise of Wild at Heart quite effectively. The hypothesis is proved several times throughout the book, actually, each chapter helps prove the belief. However, the three main points in Wild at Heart are the most potent. As men, we are innately wired for adventure, bravery and beauty. So the main focuses in this book are as follows: A Battle to Fight, A Beauty to Rescue, and An Adventure to Live. Somewhere along the way, so many of us fall along the way side of these points. As Eldredge puts it, we hang up our six shooter and cowboy hat and grow up just as the world has told us to do. We now see adventure as trading stocks and going to meetings at a different coffee shop than usual. Society in large can t make up its mind about men. Where are the real men? The world asks us. The answer that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eldredge has done a phenomenal job of exposing men where they fall short, and an even better job of explaining why we fall short! Even in my experience, having been on staff at two churches, around church my entire life, and surrounded by genuinely good people, I can now see how at times men are degraded. Not even intentionally in most cases. Though, as stated in my opening remarks, the world really can not make up its mind about what it wants men to be. Perhaps if the world could decide we could follow that. However, in my opinion, it s better that the world not make up it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Methods Of Controlling The Rotational Speed 2.1 ENHANCING TECHNIQUES Controlling the rotational speed. Tool design. Post weld heat treatment. Adding low melting point alloying elements. Low plasticity burnishing. Laser surface treatments. Ceramic coatings by MAO. By cold spraying. 2.1.1. Controlling the rotational speed As we know that decreasing the rotation speed will cause the corrosion in the nugget region because of the increase in anodic reaction and increasing the rotational speed will cause sensitised grains in the HAZ region thus corrosion in HAZ region, hence an optimum rotational speed needs to be obtained so that the corrosion resistance is maximum. In an investigation carried out by M. Jariyaboon et al. [2] on the rotational speed of the friction stir welding of AA2024 T351 found out that rotational speed is the main factor which determines the location of corrosion for welds. It was found out that for low rotation speed the corrosion attack occurs in the nugget zone due to significant increase anodic reaction and for higher rotation speed attack was in the HAZ region due to sensitised grain boundaries in that region. Esther.T.Akinlabi et al. [12] conducted FSW and the influence of friction stir welding processing parameters on dissimilar joints conducted between aluminium alloy (AA5754) and commercially pure copper (C11000) was studied. It was found that the joint interfacial regions of the welds were characterized by interlayers of aluminium and copper. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Culture Of The Thule Culture The Netsilik are an indigenous community that are descendants of the Thule culture, they reside North of Hudson Bay, just above the Arctic circle. They call themselves the Netsilik or people of the seal because of their unusual diet (Young, 1970). In his video Young states that, The winter months for the Netsilik people starts in September and last right up until June, during these months the temperatures can range anywhere from 30 50 degrees below 0 (1970). During the 2 3 months of warmer weather, the summer tundra remains wet, since permafrost not far below the surface prevents drainage (Netsilik, n.d). This causes the Netsilik to migrate frequently. Their first encounter of non natives was in 1890, a meeting that was brief but would provoke further meetings until the twentieth century. Interaction with other civilizations would only prove to advance their own, for neighboring communities like the Iglulik introduced them to more advanced weaponry like the rifle which eventually replaced their standard harpoon; thus making hunting much easier. Later on in 1920, trading posts were established, this completely changed their economy, for instead of white fox fur trapping and trade, the Netsilik now would trade for additional items made by non natives, including woolen clothing, tobacco, steel traps, fishing nets, canoes, tea, and canvas tents (Netsilik, n.d). Adding these trading posts not only shows how adaptive the Netsilik are to other cultures, but it allowed them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
