A Long Way Gone
Emily Bronte and Paul Dunbar
Have you ever had that feeling of wanting to free yourself from something, breaking the wall that
holds you back, cutting the string that won t let you go on and be free? Emily Bronte in her poem The
Caged Bird and Sympathy by Paul Dunbar portray their feelings in their lyric poems. Bronte was born
in 1818 in Yorkshire, England. She lived during the end of the romantic period, which made a huge
impact on her writings. Romanticism was an artistic and intellectual movement originating in Europe
in the late 1700s and characterized by a heightened interest in nature, emphasis on the individual s
expression of emotion and imagination... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first element our writers used to express their message of wanting to be free is form. The narrator
for The Caged Bird feels alone and wishes to be able to snatch the chains that keep her tied down.
Also, in the poem Sympathy by Dunbar as well an in The Caged Bird both authors used a bird to
symbolize the captivity and aspiration for freedom. Both poets wrote their piece in lyric form because
of obvious reasons. A lyric poem is defined as a poem that expresses personal and emotional feelings.
Writing poems with this form shows the amount of deep emotion that the narrator feels toward this
work. In addition, both authors wrote their poems in iambic pentameter to make the poem sound like a
natural flow of speech to really show the deep feelings the poets are feeling.
Using elements of language such as imagery and alliteration to give her readers a visual of what she is
feeling and the oppression she is going through. In line 6 of Bronte s poem, she describes the world as
Earth s breezy hills and heaven s blue sea , using adjectives to arouse and grasp her feeling of being
free in nature. After this she starts to use words, which represents captivity such as chain and alone.
She says, Could my hand unlock the chain/ how gladly I would watch it

The Benefits Of Raising The Minimum Wage
Raising the minimum wage helps both the employees and employers. Boosting the economic growth
in America. Minimum wage helps ensure a fair wage for the low paid workers. There have been
debates on this economical topic for years, whether if it should or shouldn t be raised. In the United
States, the Minimum wage should be raised. By doing so it brings good benefits and keeps the
economy stable.
Raising minimum wage helps improve the public health in the United States. The public health effect
is often left out whenever there is a discussion on raising the minimum wage. The public health
impacts greatly on low income Americans by raising the minimum wage. By improving the health of
many Americans, medical care cost would also change. Zhou Chen and David Meltzer conducted a
research if both the obesity rates and minimum wage are connected in a way. By using the data from
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System also known as BRFSS, Chen and Meltzer were able to
find a connection between the two. BRFSS interviews more than 350,000 adults each year, making it
the largest health survey in the world.
Through the PSID DaeHwan and J. Paul Leigh found that low wage does increase obesity and body
mass by a statistical test. Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is a long term survey of a set of
households in the United States. Around $190 billion dollars are spent on obesity each year in medical
bills. If the minimum wage raised, there would be a ten percent decrease in

Fight Club and Feminism Essay
The issue at the heart of the David Fincher film, Fight Club, is not that of man s rebellion against a
society of men raised by women . This is a film that outwardly exhibits itself as promoting the
resurrection of the ultra male , surreptitiously holding women accountable for the decay of manhood.
However, the underlying truth of the film is not of resisting the force of destruction that is woman , or
of resisting the corruption of manhood at her hand, but of penetrating the apathy needed to survive in
an environment ruled by commercial desire, not need. In reality, Fight Club is a careful examination,
through parody, of what it means to be a man; carefully examining the role of women in a society

These support groups (notably, the testicular cancer survivors group, Remaining Men Together ) give
Jack the emotional stimulation he so desperately craves. It is the enveloping comfort of cathartic
release that is his salve; but, like all addictions, tolerance sets in, and the fix must be elevated. Henry
A. Giroux, in his essay Private Satisfactions and Public Disorders: Fight Club, Patriarchy, and the
Politics of Masculine Violence , maintains the argument that Hollywood films, being in a position of
public pedagogy, exhibit a great deal of influence and must be regarded carefully; he criticizes the
film, saying Fight Club: ...offers up particular notions of agency in which white working class and
middle class men are allowed to see themselves as oppressed and lacking because their masculinity
has been compromised by and subordinated to those social and economic spheres and needs that
constitute the realm of the feminine. Giroux sees the film satirizing and condemning the weepy
process of femininization that therapy groups offer as compensation for wounds it inflicted upon itself,
and he s right (insofar as there is no therapy group offered for the disaffected). Jack is certainly an
individual deserving of disdain for his involvement in the founding of a club where men meet to,
ultimately, beat the shit out of each other; and, as Giroux suggests, this type of man deserves no
personal revolution, no reclamation of lost

To His Coy Mistress Poem Analysis
To His Coy Mistress has a particularly strong theme of Time. One of the main ideas involved is that
you must to savour what you have in the moment because everything expires and dies eventually. It is
also a very physical poem, focusing on visual attraction rather than pure love. It is also a sexual poem,
trying to pressurize a partner into sex. To His Coy Mistress has a particularly strong theme of Time.
One of the main ideas involved is that you ought to savour what you have in the moment because

sex. The man is expressing his love in a lustful way whereas Curley s wife traps men for money by
seducing them. To His Coy Mistress is split into three stanzas, each speaking of a different sort of

his novel of Of Mice and Men , Steinbeck uses Curley s wife to present this idea of being a possession
of one s leading to isolation therefore leading to loneliness. Curley s wife is a representation of how
women are treated in 1930 s America. Moreover, Steinbeck s technique of not giving Curley s wife a

Examples Of The Crucible And The Columbine Shootings
We Cannot (E)scapegoat What Happened The mainstream media is constantly being blamed for
crimes that people themselves commit. In The Crucible, a group of girls were caught dancing in the
woods by Reverend Parris. This was thought of as a sin and the girls used their overly religious
society to their advantage by blaming their actions on witches. The Columbine shooting was a tragic
event that brought high school safety into a new light. Both of the seniors committing the crime killed
themselves before they could be questioned, causing the terrified public to blame the incident on the
media, specifically Marilyn Manson. While The Crucible and the Columbine shootings are similar in
people standing up for incoherent children and deaths for selfish reasons, they are also very different.
Children in high school were killed in the Columbine shooting while adults were killed in The
Crucible and the who was targeted. A scapegoat, by definition is, A person who is blamed for the
wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency (Oxford dictionary).
The Crucible is easily one of the greatest examples of a scapegoat. The town was completely prepared
to blame witches for the girls actions. The Columbine shooting blamed Marilyn Manson, a man
known for his outlandish dress and style. On April 20th, 1999, two students murdered 12 teachers and
students in cold blood. These two seniors, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, committed suicide before
incredulous government officials were able to ask them why. The public standing up for incoherent
children was one of the interchangeable qualities brought forth in these stories. People were killed
because the public was oblivious and not paying attention to what these kids were calling out. The two
criminals, guilty of the Columbine massacre, were social outcasts. Dylan Klebold, one of the two
seniors, was clinically depressed and was prepared to commit suicide. They had gotten arrested
previously for breaking into a van, and spend the rest of that year trying to convince everyone they
were sorry. Both of the teenagers were openly hateful as well. Eric Harris wrote in his journal, You

Similarities Between Frankenstein And The Island Of Dr Moreau
Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Island of Dr. Moreau are
excellent examples of Gothic fiction. These stories deal with the forces of good against evil. The good
forces are the family, social conscience, religious belief and moral judgement, all constituents of a
civilized society. The evil side is the corruption of conscience, the misuse of power, violation of nature
and rampant ego. The themes of each work explore the dual nature of mankind. Behind the benevolent
face of civilization there still lurks the beast within every man and it is this fear that the protagonists
exploit to justify their blasphemous experiments. The brooding gothic background is powerful vehicle
for writers to express their unease regarding the imbalance between nature, science, man and
spirituality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fact that Raef s manage was trying to influence his decisions makes an obvious bias to who Raef

Surfing Informative Speech
Have you ever seen a perfect wave with all of its beauty? I have been a victim of seeing the perfect
wave. Surfing is a great sport but if you happen to stubble across the perfect wave or so you think so
you re in for a great treat. Some good spots to surf is Banzai Pipeline, Rincon, Malibu and much more.
In 1926 surfing was born by a man named Tom Blake. He just took a piece of driftwood of his house
and went out to surf. Surfing is exciting because Thinking about surfing can excite you, When the surf

When the surf is good you can get long rides. When you get good long big waves it almost feels like
you re flying because when you are on a big wave and you pop up it feels like you can be jumping
down a mountain and gliding across it. A good long ride is like a steep barreling wave and barreling
means the wave opens up to like a room and you can pretty much go into that room if the waves are
barreling or some people call it being in the tube. Sometimes when you are on a good long wave it can
feel like you are gliding across the glorious deep blue sea forever. So you probably noticed that good
long rides are pretty epic! It s just a fun sport. Surfing is just an overall fun sport because you can
make up new tricks and your own surfing style for example, a pro surfer Jordy Smith created the
rodeo flip in which you do a backflip 360 and land it, also an example of having your own surf style is
Dane Reynolds who does turns that are way different than anyone else s turns. You can also go in
contests and if you win we all know that winning is fun! When you are on a wave you re in total
control and no one can control you like in other sports. When it comes to excitement, surfing is what

Over Switching
In Andy Molinsky s article Adapt a New Culture, but Don t Go Too Far , over switching is a common
behavior among individuals who make mistakes when they are pushing themselves too far to match a
particular culture. It is inevitable which can affect individual s life or career (Molinsky). International
students and workers are told that individualism is an important part of the culture in the United
States. While they are trying to adapt to that culture, mistakes might happen because of their
unappropriated language and behavior. The best way to minimize the effect of over switching is to
learn from interacting with people from the culture that you are trying to adapt into. In the article,
Cheng, a Chinese professional, hears from others that it is important to express his ideas to colleagues
because it can show his leadership potential. Believing it can make improvements his career life, he

Lake Pollution Issues
The issue regarding the Lake of the Ozarks is one that has been floating around for some time. The
water quality has gone down the drain in recent years due to numerous factors such as leaking sewage
and trash pollution. This issue is an environmental concern because it makes the escherichia coli (e.
coli) levels in the water go up, which can lead to illnesses and deaths of people and animals across the
area. There was said to have been as much as 15,000 gallons of sewage that led directly into the Lake
of the Ozarks (DNR). This is obviously a problem because it is affecting the health of everyone and
everything; however, people are asking why it may matter.
Many people care about their lake. It s where they can go to swim and hang out with friends.
Residents care about the pollution issue that is going on because more and more people are deciding to
live by the lake full time which increases lake pollution. Another aspect that is being affected with the
pollution are the animals in the water. The e. coli levels in the area are shifting because of the
pollution issues. When the sewage is released into the lake it most definitely does not help with
keeping the lake clean. As more pollution problems come up, they need to be fixed by the public
living there. The residents surrounding the lake need to pay more attention of what is being thrown
into the lake and the status of their sewage tanks to insure they are not leaking or damaged. If those
tasks are fixed little by little

Morality, Moral, And Morality
Introduction As part of leadership, morality has been seen as a fundamental part. Among the
leadership traits, morality is has been defined as a very significant reality in how the leaders would
interact. By extension, various definitions have been brought forward in the attempts to understand
morality. However, moral relativism has been defined as a theoretical approach under which what is
right and what is wrong is effectively studied, (Sergiovanni, 2013). Therefore, it is very difficult to
distinguish ethics from morality. Ethics and morality seem to augment each other in emphasizing the
guiding principles of life. Clearly, morality encompasses almost all aspects of the human life starting
from an individual level and extending to the societal level. In the same light, there is no agreed
definition of leadership. Gini (2011) in the article, Moral Leadership: An Overview, asserts that
leadership entails numerous points of view that seem to all be centered on the fact that a leader will
prioritize efforts so as to realize positive results for others. Thus, leadership is a social process that
involves positive influence between a leader and their followers (Gini, 2011). The fact that leaders
would have to be in touch with their followers; emphasizes should be morality. Moral leadership
entails a leader who is concerned with their principles regarding rightness or wrongness of their
human character (Sergiovanni, 2013). Moral leadership is important since its

With any Hollywood movie based on historical events there always exists an attempt to balance
historical accuracy with artistic license. Remaining accurate enough to appeal to those with
backgrounds in the field of history while still being entertaining enough for the masses is a difficult
task. One that can often lead to disaster. The film Glory is no exception to this attempt at maintaining
an equilibrium of fact and fiction. There are numerous mistakes in the film, and graded on this fact
alone the film deserves at best a C. Directed by Edward Zwick and starring Matthew Broderick,

Many of whom were well educated. An observer claimed that they all could read and write and made
an excellent appearance (Shaw and Duncan 33). An interesting side note to the make up of the 54th is
the fact that the only member of the 54th portrayed in the film who actually existed is Colonel Shaw.
Many minor characters portrayed are actual historical figures, such as Frederick Douglass and
Governor John A. Andrew. The names of some characters are combinations of names of real soldiers.
In an interview with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology newspaper The Tech director Edward

Colonel Shaw s acceptance of the position as commander of this new regiment. In the film Shaw

Emile Durkheim s View Of Religion
There are a numerous amount of different perspectives when concerning religions and myths. One
example is Emile Durkheim whose perspective of religion was that it was a social component of
human beings. He suggested that people got their regions ideas, were taught how to carry out their
rituals and developed their ideals as a result of their socialization. He believed that there were no false
religions and added that religion quite dominated over its followers and made them dependent on it.
Durkheim tried to distinguish between religion and magic. He suggested that religious or sacred things
are special and that commonplace things are profane. Magic rituals he claimed were just social events.
Religious ideas were created while rituals were being performed causing many emotional participates
to feel the presence of unseen beings among them, which was Durkheim s idea of a sacred world.
Durkheim stated that there is no church of magic and that there was no lasting bond between the
magician and his audience. A church binds the group together and a moral community because

Edward Tylor an English Scholar, defined religion as the belief in spiritual beings. He offered the
theory that these beliefs came from dreams and that the dreamer was somewhere between the living

Organizational Dynamics of Implementing Business Intelligence Initiatives
Business intelligence is the ability of a business to be able to extract actionable insight from business
as well as market data, which is used to make better decisions in business; and to improve the
corporate performance of the business. Business intelligence must exist for businesses in the world
today to survive(Electrosmard Ltd). Almost every business today worth its salt is looking for the
appropriate business intelligence technology in order to survive in today s fiercely competitive world.
Business intelligence also helps companies and businesses to survive during hard economic times.
During such periods, it is not a surprise to find companies still spending on the processes of business
intelligence because without such solutions, there is no business at all. In any case, there is a business;
it is most likely on the decline in terms of productivity and revenues. Business intelligence is not a
onetime thing; it is an ongoing process. Business intelligence goes on as long as the business is still
running; the business intelligence continues to exist too.
Business intelligence involves techniques based on computers that are used in the identification,
extraction, as well as the analysis of business data(Electrosmart Ltd). The business data in this case
could be revenue from sales made from given products, could also be sales that a given department
has made, or

Australian Constitutional Monarchy
Introduction
The only system of governance which has been used in Australia since federation in 1901 has been a
Constitutional Monarchy. Within this system there is a constitution, which determines and limits the
role of government in Australian society; there is a monarch, who inherits the role of Head of State
from his or her parent; and there is a parliament where elected members sit to create and vote on
legislation. However, in the 1980s and 1990s a new political movement gained a large amount of
popularity in Australia. This movement endorsed changing Australia s system of government to a semi
presidential republic. This systems most commonly recognised difference is the removal of the
monarch as the Head of State and a president as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constitutional monarchy has served Australia well for over 110 years, and we should not change
it, due to potential risks associated with doing so, such as politicising the role of the Head of State of
Australia.
The constitutional monarchy means Australia a non political Head of State, this would change if a
republic model was adopted. Queen Elizabeth, as well as other past monarchs, have not had a political
role in the governance of the country. The introduction of an elected Head of State would mean that
Australia would have to have a Head of State who plays a political role, which is considered by many
to be negative, because traditionally only members of parliament have played political roles in
Australia s governance.
Australia has close ties to its monarch which should not be removed. Australia and the United
Kingdom have a strong international relationship, which is partially due to the strength caused by
sharing a Head of State. If Australia removes the Queen as its Head of State, this will likely weaken its
relationship with the United Kingdom, who is considered to be one of our closest

Some states have laws so strict that asking a nursing mother to stop, cover up, or move elsewhere is a
violation of her civil rights and gives her grounds to sue for damages in a court of law .
Babies who are not breastfed in places other than home will eventually become used to only being fed
in one place. Therefore the nourishing mother will basically become house bound. It is important for
women to get out of the house following birth, so they don t become depressed and feel cut off from
the rest of the world. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics The AAP recommends that
babies be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life. Babies should continue to
breastfeed for a year and for as long as is mutually desired by the mother and baby . During these first
6 months the mother should be dedicated to supplying breast milk whenever and wherever she and her
infant feel appropriate. Why should a mother be segregated from her everyday life during her nursing
period just to make others feel comfortable ?
For the most part women cover themselves with a shawl, a wrap, or a cover of some sort while
breastfeeding. If not they make sure that they are not exposed in any way. Breastfeeding saves
everyone money. According to Opposing Views A conservative 2001 report estimates that at least $3.6

Darius The Great Of The Empire
Darius I, also known as Darius the Great, was the third king who reigned from 550 486 BCE during
the Achaemenid Empire. While he lived, Darius held the empire at its peak, which stretched from the
river Nile and parts of Northern Greece to the Indus River Valley. One of the most major events in
Darius s life was his expedition to discipline Athens and Eretria for their support in the Ionian Revolt.
He made his empire larger by vanquishing Thrace and Macedonia, and occupying Scythia. He also
arranged his empire, by splitting it into provinces and placing governors to rule over it. Darius
organized a new financial system, along with making Aramaic the official language of the empire. He
followed religious tolerance that created peace within the empire. Darius order the carving of the cliff
face Behistun Inscription, an autobiography of great modern linguistic significance. Darius was born
as the eldest of five sons to a leading figure of power in Persia named Hystaspes. Herodotus of
Halicarnassus, author of The Histories, wrote that after a dream that seemed to predict Darius reign,
King Cyrus became suspicious of the son of Hystaspes, who was about twenty at that time and had
been left behind in Persia because he was too young for war (Herodotus) . Herodotus adds that Cyrus
sent back Hystaspes to control his son. A couple days late and the king was killed in action against the
Medes. Either Cyrus or his son and successor Cambyses appointed Hystaspes as governor of

A day in the life of hair is not easy. Like, getting wedged in braids, getting dyed, having lice crawling
around you (which is itchy) or getting shaved into stubble. People can take good care of their hair and
others, it s just a feature. However, Hannah is a whole different story. If you looked at Hannah you
would just see a twelve year old girl with dimples and dark, kinky hair. Hannah and I have a rapport
relationship. I m on top of her head watching her grow up into an intelligent teenager. I m the dark,
kinky hair and I have been here for the tough times like when her dad had died and when she got

I have been counting the days ever since I heard the lousy news. I am ecstatic for her because it was
her day to shine! (if she was dreading it then why is she happy) DING!! Blasted the bell above the
door of the salon. The noise rang in me as we walked towards the woman behind the desk in the salon.
Welcome!! she exclaimed. Savannah will help you! Hannah (and I) turned to see a tall, young, copper
haired women. The woman took said hi and took Hannah s hand and lead her and her mom to the last
chair on the left side of the small tattered house. Hannah sat in the chair and pulled me up and into a
black, marble bowl behind the chair. She turned the tap on the bowl and the water blasted out of the

sappy, white liquid into her hand. She rubbed the liquid on me. It cleaned me rubbing the oils and dirt
off me while the water washed it in the sink and down the drain. Finally, it was all gone but she was
pouring some more liquid into her hand. Here we go again. I thought. But it wasn t the first white,

Copper Transport Disorders Paper
Background Problem:
Inherited copper transport disorders are caused by a defect in the gene that decodes for copper
transporting ATPases. This defect interferes with how the human body utilizes copper which is
manifested in disorders such as Wilson s disease, Menkes Disease, and the rare Occipital Horn
Syndrome. This article attempts to examine the types of copper transport disorders and focus on the
clinical problems in diagnosis and treatments. Even though there are diagnosis methods and
treatments for these diseases, there are still issues with the available resources. Readers would be
interested in the larger work because early diagnosis and treatment of this disease is critical in
managing the disorders.
Purpose:
When attempting to improve on the efficiency of diagnoses and treatments of copper transport
disorders, it was found that patients with Wilson s disease develop hepatocellular carcinoma even
though they are receiving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chelating agents given to remove excess copper are given either an hour before meals or two
hours after meals. Due to this, patients tend to become nauseous after consuming their medicine. This
side effect causes many patients to avoid taking their medicine. This is important because by solving
this obstacle, more patients will be more compliant in the treatment of their disease. Secondly, patients
with Wilson s disease have decreased levels of ceruloplasmin. This disrupts the iron homeostasis
which results in the accumulation of both iron and copper in the liver. This information is important
with diagnosing the disease. Another disease, such as hemochromatosis also exhibit high levels of iron
in the body. With this knowledge, when diagnosing patients, physicians should test for both diseases

The Bitter Conflict in Northern Ireland Essay examples
The Bitter Conflict in Northern Ireland
Out of all the conflicts that have occurred in Western Europe since the Second World War, Northern
Ireland has been one of the most bitter, long lasting and intractable. This conflict is based in the
struggle of one side of the community for a unified independent Ireland and the opposition of the other
part of the community to this aim and their desire for Northern Ireland to remain a part of the United
Kingdom. Due to the hostility between these two sides issues of discrimination in areas such as
housing, employment, electoral manipulations and religious histories have been rife. Northern Ireland
is torn over the balance of power relations between communities and questions of governance. ...

Although this is good news there are many areas of employment which are still inadequate and
unmonitored. The Policy of Appraisal and Fair Treatment and Targeting Social Need initiatives were
intended to be set up in the 90 s to act as monitoring and job creation schemes. Neither of these
reached the goals they were hoped to achieve. PAFT received no consideration and hopes for
reparation for past discriminations came to nothing when its function became reduced to equality and
TSN was sidelined with no real aims. Neither monitor the religion or gender of staff.
The allocation of public housing has also been an area subject to accusations of discrimination. In the
1960 s civil rights movements began in protest against the lack of civil and housing rights of the
Catholics of Northern Ireland. In June 1966, a nationalist councillor Austin Currie squatted in a house
in the Tyrone village of Caledon to oppose the treatment the Irish people were receiving. Though it
was meant to be a peaceful protest there was a violent reaction. In 1969 The Cameron Report
examined the causes of the civil disorders which started on 5 October 1968 in Londonderry. They
found that the discrimination in the allocation of housing, together with lack of housing provision was
among the main grievances of the Catholic population. At the time, housing was an important political
issue, in addition to being of great socio economic importance sub tenants were not given a vote in

Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense
The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the
film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer understand
the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a boy named Cole
Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees things that other
people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see ghosts, among people as if
living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe tries to help Cole with his
problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other patients, Vincent Grey, who was
a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director uses foreshadowing, symbolism and
motif to construct the theme of communication within the film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth
Sense director M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing to hint to the viewers what will happen next
throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a valuable tool more than just once throughout the
motion picture. For example, in the beginning Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home.
Vincent Grey was a former patient of Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that
he had failed him and then Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That
would be a fatal wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a
flashback. The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example
indicates that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only
person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to
communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see. This
is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe only wore
an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears anything
besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. Another foreshadow is in the beginning, when
Cole speaks to Dr. Crowe in the church he spoke in

Dear Mom And Dad,. I Completely Understand Why You Are
Dear Mom and Dad, I completely understand why you are concerned about my use of marijuana not
only for the well being of this family but also for my own health and future. I definitely understand
your concerns, but you need to understand that you grew up in a completely different generation than
me. Marijuana use is very common now days not only in The United States but all around the world.
Many people who you interact with every day have at one point in their lives or even currently smoke
marijuana, yet they are still able support their families, have a steady job, and even in my situation get
a good education. One of the reasons you haven t realized this is because there are no long term effects

Now I understand that the two of you believe that marijuana is a gateway drug but I have done
excessive research and I can assure you that it is in in no shape or form a gateway drug . The gateway
theory argues that because heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine users often used marijuana before
graduating to harder drugs, it must be a gateway to harder drug use. The theory implies that there is a
causal mechanism that biologically sensitizes drug users, making them more willing to try and more
desirous of harder drugs. Yet the gateway hypothesis doesn t make sense to those who use marijuana
or have used in the past. Research shows that the vast majority of marijuana users do not go on to use
hard drugs. Many users compare their daily cannabis habit with dependency on caffeine. The UK
Department of Health say Cannabis is a weakly addictive drug but does induce dependence in a
significant minority of heavy users. If you are a regular cannabis smoker (every day) and you stop
smoking, you will experience some of the following withdrawal symptoms: restlessness, irritability,
mild agitation, insomnia, nausea, sleep disturbance, sweats, and intense dreams. These symptoms,
however, are mild and short lived, lasting 2 to 4 days. With such negligible withdrawal symptoms, it is
not surprising that quitting marijuana is so easy, especially for someone with very strong will power,
such as myself.

Hitcher, Education For Leisure, My Last Duchess, and The Lab
Hitcher, Education For Leisure, My Last Duchess, and The Lab
Hitcher By Simon Armitage, Education For Leisure By Carol Anne
Duffy, My Last Duchess and The Lab by Robert Browning are all poems that deal with violence or the
prospect of violence.
Hitcher is a poem about a man who is angry at being threatened with the sack, he picks up a hitch
hiker and kills him and then leaves him on the road side. The poetic voice seems to be psychotic and
also talks about the attack in a casual manner.
Ed for Leisure also deals with a bitter person who feels he has been let down by society. As he
becomes increasingly demotivated, he gets more and more violent ending with leaving the house with
a bread knife. Both poets aim to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simple and direct language is used by Armitage to demonstrate the characters casual attitude to
violence. It is also used in Ed for Leisure to help create the short staccato lines such as Today I am
going to kill something. Anything.
Both poems by Robert Browning are dramatic monologues, The Lab is a mixture of the main
characters thoughts and her words to the apothecary. She seems very similar to the main characters in
both Ed for Leisure and Hitcher as an insane twisted side of her character is exposed...
The lady in The Laboratory is plotting to murder the mistress of her lover and seems very excited
about the prospect of death. In asking the apothecary, Wot that I bid you spare her the pain; she shows
that she wants her victim to die slowly and painfully. This demonstrates a craving for violence like the
characters in Armitage and Duffy s poems. As well as sharing the structure of a dramatic monologue,
The Lab is also arranged in stanzas like the previous two poems and contains rhyme like Hitcher . The
second poem by Robert
Browning is called My Last Duchess like the other 3 poems it is a dramatic monologue and shares the
same rhyme scheme as The Lab . The poetic voice talks about how his wife was too flirtatious and
how it was not only him that brought smiles to her face. After a while, he grew tired of not being
appreciated, gave orders and her smile stopped all together.

J Coles Be Free Essay
For this critical reflection of a protest song I have chosen J Coles Be Free . Through his music and
lyrics, J Cole is constantly pushing a political agenda, questioning society and its norms as well as
putting a focus on current and past events. There are multiple reasons why I chose this song and genre.
Since the Watts riots in California there has not been a large scale African American rights protest.
Blues started off the musical African American protest wave and it seemed to end with the death of
Tupac. Since the early 2000 s African American music has strayed away from protest and evolved into
story telling related to events in the life of the artist and the current trend in rap seems to be about
fashion. It is safe to say protest music from the African American perspective had died. So it is
amazing to see artist like J Cole still giving voice to the average person and questioning those who
control us. The new wave of protest music has resulted from the recent police African American
interactions that have resulted in many black teenagers dead. These events have caused riots in
Missouri, Baltimore and Florida. J Coles be Free is a protest song about the mistreatment of black
people and the recent tragedy involving Michael Brown.
The Watts Riot in 1965 was a six day massive riot, which was both the largest and costliest urban
rebellion of the Civil Rights era (BBC). Over the course of the six day riot, over 14,000 California
National Guard troops were

Students And Athletes Athletes
Ambidexterity Amongst Students and Athletes MATH 141 (Prof. An) Final Project December 2015
Romeo Ardimento, Lorraine Jabouin, Christopher Kremer, Fiona Macleod Introduction/Background
Being Ambidextrous can be quite useful; particularly for athletes and musicians. Many sports require
the use of both hands, as do many instruments. For this reason our team decided to determine the
difference in ambidexterity, if any, between people who are either athletes or musicians, and
individuals who are not involved in either sports or music. We were interested in determining if the
ability of participants to use their weak hand as well as their dominant hand is associated with
participation in athletics or music. Does an individual s participation in either a sport or the fact that
they play a musical instrument dictate how well they can use both hands? Methodology We decided
that the best way to answer this question would be with a study. Our participants would be made up of
60 students. These participants would be made up of three equally divided identity groups. 20 athletes,
20 musicians, and 20 individuals who do not participate in sports or play an instrument (who from this
point on will be referred to as the neither group). Those identified as athletes had to have had been on
a Varsity team and those who were identified as musicians had to have been playing their instrument
for more than two years. Individuals who fell into both categories were excluded. Participants were

Essay On The Trail Of Tears
Along the Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears played a part in what is known as the Manifest Destiny,
which was the expansion of the colonists to the west. Gold was found on the Cherokee land during the
Georgia Gold Rush. The greed that it created was one of the leading causes of the Trail of Tears where
thousands of Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their native lands (Cherokee.org). Little
did the Native Americans realize that the new nation that was going to be forming around them would
affect not only their lives but the lives of their descendants. Even though the Cherokee made efforts to
keep their land through the court system and even attempted to assimilate to the American way of life
it was to no avail. They tried to agree to treaties with the United States Government. Even though,
they were eventually forced to leave their lands. By forcing the Native Americans to abandon their
homes, robbing their lands, taking their freedom, and forcing them to adapt and to assimilate into a
new land and culture showed how vindictive President Andrew Jackson was regarding the Native
Americans. The Trail of Tears was an instance of the United States Government committing genocide
against the Native Americans
Until 1828, the federal government agreed that Cherokee had rights to their land, but when Andrew
Jackson was elected President, that all ended. Jackson refused to believe that the tribes were sovereign
and thus viewed Indian treaties, as an absurdity

Reflection About Hunting
Hunting has dated back to ancient times when there were massive sheets of ice covering the planet,
and yet, all of the evolving the human race has done, it is still a crucial part of some people s everyday
life. It has been a family tradition for dads to take their sons into the woods, and teach them the ways
of stalking your prey, and finally killing it. On my eighth birthday, I woke up to my dad dressed in a
camouflage top holding onto a bow and arrow and a massive white target standing at his feet. His first
words were we are going to have fun today . I instantly thought that that day I was going to be killing
my first animal, but to my dismay, it turned out that blood was not shed for three years.
I loved that bow and arrow, and I can remember everyday after school I would go to the garage and
shoot that bow to the point where I couldn t manage to draw it back. After about month, I had lost
hope in killing anything with that bow because I was not able to shoot it straight. There was a time
that I was shooting in the garage at a target, and the arrow slipped out of my hand, and it had managed
to hit a bottle of lighter fluid. Granted I there was not enough force behind the arrow to push it the
entire way through the can, but it was enough to spill the lighter fluid all over my foam target. I was
no longer to use my bow and arrow unsupervised.
Years later, my dad decided to take me to the gun range. He had brought the gun that his father had
taught him how to shoot

Analysis Of The Book By Alex Haley
1) Alex Haley wrote the book due to the several interviews he had with Malcolm X. Malcolm is
technically the author of the book due to the fact that those are his words and that Malcolm X narrates
the novel . 2) The difference between the two is that a biography is the writing of ones life written by
another individual in third person. A autobiography is the writing of ones life written by that same
individual and/or protagonist in first person. 3) Malcolm X did not know his biological father because
his father was killed in 1931 by white supremacists. Malcolm was at the young age of 6 and had little
memory of his father. 4) Skin color and hair texture had a major impact on the family and in the
society itself. Due to the fact that Malcolm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Clay thought, No, I can t believe it. Hannah Baker killed herself. (Asher 7). Most people know
someone who killed themselves, like Clay knew Hannah and Jay Asher s relative attempted suicide.
Jay Asher also used suicide to give people a kind of closure with suicide since most people who knew
someone who committed suicide do not understand their reasons for killing themselves. Hannah stated

sentence as Hannah did what she didn t want to do, she left no suicide note thinking that her parents

Some reasons people leave suicide is To Increase the pain of survivors by attempting to create guilt (

when she wrote that part of the suicide note. Another reason people write suicide notes is To set out
the reasons for suicide ( Suicide Note ). Hannah used her audio version of her suicide note to do this
exact thing. People write suicide notes to express thoughts and feelings they believed they could not

Support Transportation Changes Throughout Different Periods
Central Government.
The participation of the central government willing to support transportation changes appeared at
different periods. The first attempt was during the administration of León Febres Cordero (1984 1998)
giving support to the Empresa Municipal de Transporte. After him, Rodrigo Borja s (1988 1992) team
developed plans that will improve transportation in the city. Their main idea was to acquire a train to
connect the south of the city with the valleys. Nevertheless, that option was not the best alternative
due to the few population living at the valleys (Interviewer X, 2016). During this administration, ideas

The negotiation of the funding had to be government government and CONADE (National Council

  • 2. A Long Way Gone By Emily Bronte Gustavo Leon Kathryn Overbeck ENC 1102 October 28, 2015 A Long Way Gone Emily Bronte and Paul Dunbar Have you ever had that feeling of wanting to free yourself from something, breaking the wall that holds you back, cutting the string that won t let you go on and be free? Emily Bronte in her poem The Caged Bird and Sympathy by Paul Dunbar portray their feelings in their lyric poems. Bronte was born in 1818 in Yorkshire, England. She lived during the end of the romantic period, which made a huge impact on her writings. Romanticism was an artistic and intellectual movement originating in Europe in the late 1700s and characterized by a heightened interest in nature, emphasis on the individual s expression of emotion and imagination... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first element our writers used to express their message of wanting to be free is form. The narrator for The Caged Bird feels alone and wishes to be able to snatch the chains that keep her tied down. Also, in the poem Sympathy by Dunbar as well an in The Caged Bird both authors used a bird to symbolize the captivity and aspiration for freedom. Both poets wrote their piece in lyric form because of obvious reasons. A lyric poem is defined as a poem that expresses personal and emotional feelings. Writing poems with this form shows the amount of deep emotion that the narrator feels toward this work. In addition, both authors wrote their poems in iambic pentameter to make the poem sound like a natural flow of speech to really show the deep feelings the poets are feeling. Using elements of language such as imagery and alliteration to give her readers a visual of what she is feeling and the oppression she is going through. In line 6 of Bronte s poem, she describes the world as Earth s breezy hills and heaven s blue sea , using adjectives to arouse and grasp her feeling of being free in nature. After this she starts to use words, which represents captivity such as chain and alone. She says, Could my hand unlock the chain/ how gladly I would watch it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Benefits Of Raising The Minimum Wage Raising the minimum wage helps both the employees and employers. Boosting the economic growth in America. Minimum wage helps ensure a fair wage for the low paid workers. There have been debates on this economical topic for years, whether if it should or shouldn t be raised. In the United States, the Minimum wage should be raised. By doing so it brings good benefits and keeps the economy stable. Raising minimum wage helps improve the public health in the United States. The public health effect is often left out whenever there is a discussion on raising the minimum wage. The public health impacts greatly on low income Americans by raising the minimum wage. By improving the health of many Americans, medical care cost would also change. Zhou Chen and David Meltzer conducted a research if both the obesity rates and minimum wage are connected in a way. By using the data from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System also known as BRFSS, Chen and Meltzer were able to find a connection between the two. BRFSS interviews more than 350,000 adults each year, making it the largest health survey in the world. Through the PSID DaeHwan and J. Paul Leigh found that low wage does increase obesity and body mass by a statistical test. Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is a long term survey of a set of households in the United States. Around $190 billion dollars are spent on obesity each year in medical bills. If the minimum wage raised, there would be a ten percent decrease in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fight Club and Feminism Essay The issue at the heart of the David Fincher film, Fight Club, is not that of man s rebellion against a society of men raised by women . This is a film that outwardly exhibits itself as promoting the resurrection of the ultra male , surreptitiously holding women accountable for the decay of manhood. However, the underlying truth of the film is not of resisting the force of destruction that is woman , or of resisting the corruption of manhood at her hand, but of penetrating the apathy needed to survive in an environment ruled by commercial desire, not need. In reality, Fight Club is a careful examination, through parody, of what it means to be a man; carefully examining the role of women in a society busy rushing towards sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These support groups (notably, the testicular cancer survivors group, Remaining Men Together ) give Jack the emotional stimulation he so desperately craves. It is the enveloping comfort of cathartic release that is his salve; but, like all addictions, tolerance sets in, and the fix must be elevated. Henry A. Giroux, in his essay Private Satisfactions and Public Disorders: Fight Club, Patriarchy, and the Politics of Masculine Violence , maintains the argument that Hollywood films, being in a position of public pedagogy, exhibit a great deal of influence and must be regarded carefully; he criticizes the film, saying Fight Club: ...offers up particular notions of agency in which white working class and middle class men are allowed to see themselves as oppressed and lacking because their masculinity has been compromised by and subordinated to those social and economic spheres and needs that constitute the realm of the feminine. Giroux sees the film satirizing and condemning the weepy process of femininization that therapy groups offer as compensation for wounds it inflicted upon itself, and he s right (insofar as there is no therapy group offered for the disaffected). Jack is certainly an individual deserving of disdain for his involvement in the founding of a club where men meet to, ultimately, beat the shit out of each other; and, as Giroux suggests, this type of man deserves no personal revolution, no reclamation of lost ... One of the main ideas involved is that you must to savour what you have in the moment because everything expires and dies eventually. To His Coy Mistress has a particularly strong theme of Time. One of the main ideas involved is that you ought to savour what you have in the moment because everything expires and dies eventually. It is also a very physical poem, focusing on visual attraction rather than pure love, or love of someone s traits. It is also a sexual poem; trying to force a partner into sex. The man is expressing his love in a lustful way whereas Curley s wife traps men for money by seducing them. To His Coy Mistress is split into three stanzas, each speaking of a different sort of reality. The first paragraph is an ideal scenario in which he can love her forever. In his novel of Of Mice and Men , Steinbeck uses Curley s wife to present this idea of being a possession of one s leading to isolation therefore leading to loneliness. Curley s wife is a representation of how women are treated in 1930 s America. Moreover, Steinbeck s technique of not giving Curley s wife a name clearly mirrors that women are treated like an object, causing the reader to maybe sympathise her or women of that period. • 6. Examples Of The Crucible And The Columbine Shootings We Cannot (E)scapegoat What Happened The mainstream media is constantly being blamed for crimes that people themselves commit. In The Crucible, a group of girls were caught dancing in the woods by Reverend Parris. This was thought of as a sin and the girls used their overly religious society to their advantage by blaming their actions on witches. The Columbine shooting was a tragic event that brought high school safety into a new light. Both of the seniors committing the crime killed themselves before they could be questioned, causing the terrified public to blame the incident on the media, specifically Marilyn Manson. While The Crucible and the Columbine shootings are similar in people standing up for incoherent children and deaths for selfish reasons, they are also very different. Children in high school were killed in the Columbine shooting while adults were killed in The Crucible and the who was targeted. A scapegoat, by definition is, A person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency (Oxford dictionary). The Crucible is easily one of the greatest examples of a scapegoat. The town was completely prepared to blame witches for the girls actions. The Columbine shooting blamed Marilyn Manson, a man known for his outlandish dress and style. On April 20th, 1999, two students murdered 12 teachers and students in cold blood. These two seniors, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, committed suicide before incredulous government officials were able to ask them why. The public standing up for incoherent children was one of the interchangeable qualities brought forth in these stories. People were killed because the public was oblivious and not paying attention to what these kids were calling out. The two criminals, guilty of the Columbine massacre, were social outcasts. Dylan Klebold, one of the two seniors, was clinically depressed and was prepared to commit suicide. They had gotten arrested previously for breaking into a van, and spend the rest of that year trying to convince everyone they were sorry. Both of the teenagers were openly hateful as well. Eric Harris wrote in his journal, You know what I hate? Star Wars fans: get a friggin life, you boring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Similarities Between Frankenstein And The Island Of Dr Moreau Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Island of Dr. Moreau are excellent examples of Gothic fiction. These stories deal with the forces of good against evil. The good forces are the family, social conscience, religious belief and moral judgement, all constituents of a civilized society. The evil side is the corruption of conscience, the misuse of power, violation of nature and rampant ego. The themes of each work explore the dual nature of mankind. Behind the benevolent face of civilization there still lurks the beast within every man and it is this fear that the protagonists exploit to justify their blasphemous experiments. The brooding gothic background is powerful vehicle for writers to express their unease regarding the imbalance between nature, science, man and spirituality. ... The most important qualities that Raef should have been seeking were technical experience, capability to work efficiently in small teams, resonate for better results, all the members with prior project experience, and find the most abstract minds that he could to ensure multiple outstanding viewpoints. The fact that Raef s manage was trying to influence his decisions makes an obvious bias to who Raef might consider asking onto the team. Surfing is a great sport but if you happen to stubble across the perfect wave or so you think so you re in for a great treat. Some good spots to surf is Banzai Pipeline, Rincon, Malibu and much more. In 1926 surfing was born by a man named Tom Blake. He just took a piece of driftwood of his house and went out to surf. Surfing is exciting because Thinking about surfing can excite you, When the surf is good you can get some epic long rides that might barrel and surfing is just an overall fun sport. When the surf is good you can get long rides. When you get good long big waves it almost feels like you re flying because when you are on a big wave and you pop up it feels like you can be jumping down a mountain and gliding across it. A good long ride is like a steep barreling wave and barreling means the wave opens up to like a room and you can pretty much go into that room if the waves are barreling or some people call it being in the tube. Sometimes when you are on a good long wave it can feel like you are gliding across the glorious deep blue sea forever. So you probably noticed that good long rides are pretty epic! It s just a fun sport. Over Switching In Andy Molinsky s article Adapt a New Culture, but Don t Go Too Far , over switching is a common behavior among individuals who make mistakes when they are pushing themselves too far to match a particular culture. It is inevitable which can affect individual s life or career (Molinsky). International students and workers are told that individualism is an important part of the culture in the United States. While they are trying to adapt to that culture, mistakes might happen because of their unappropriated language and behavior. The best way to minimize the effect of over switching is to learn from interacting with people from the culture that you are trying to adapt into. • 11. Lake Pollution Issues The issue regarding the Lake of the Ozarks is one that has been floating around for some time. The water quality has gone down the drain in recent years due to numerous factors such as leaking sewage and trash pollution. This issue is an environmental concern because it makes the escherichia coli (e. coli) levels in the water go up, which can lead to illnesses and deaths of people and animals across the area. There was said to have been as much as 15,000 gallons of sewage that led directly into the Lake of the Ozarks (DNR). This is obviously a problem because it is affecting the health of everyone and everything; however, people are asking why it may matter. Many people care about their lake. It s where they can go to swim and hang out with friends. Residents care about the pollution issue that is going on because more and more people are deciding to live by the lake full time which increases lake pollution. Another aspect that is being affected with the pollution are the animals in the water. The e. coli levels in the area are shifting because of the pollution issues. When the sewage is released into the lake it most definitely does not help with keeping the lake clean. As more pollution problems come up, they need to be fixed by the public living there. The residents surrounding the lake need to pay more attention of what is being thrown into the lake and the status of their sewage tanks to insure they are not leaking or damaged. If those tasks are fixed little by little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Morality, Moral, And Morality Introduction As part of leadership, morality has been seen as a fundamental part. Among the leadership traits, morality is has been defined as a very significant reality in how the leaders would interact. By extension, various definitions have been brought forward in the attempts to understand morality. However, moral relativism has been defined as a theoretical approach under which what is right and what is wrong is effectively studied, (Sergiovanni, 2013). Therefore, it is very difficult to distinguish ethics from morality. Ethics and morality seem to augment each other in emphasizing the guiding principles of life. Clearly, morality encompasses almost all aspects of the human life starting from an individual level and extending to the societal level. In the same light, there is no agreed definition of leadership. Gini (2011) in the article, Moral Leadership: An Overview, asserts that leadership entails numerous points of view that seem to all be centered on the fact that a leader will prioritize efforts so as to realize positive results for others. Thus, leadership is a social process that involves positive influence between a leader and their followers (Gini, 2011). The fact that leaders would have to be in touch with their followers; emphasizes should be morality. Moral leadership entails a leader who is concerned with their principles regarding rightness or wrongness of their human character (Sergiovanni, 2013). Moral leadership is important since its ... The film Glory is no exception to this attempt at maintaining an equilibrium of fact and fiction. There are numerous mistakes in the film, and graded on this fact alone the film deserves at best a C. He believed that there were no false religions and added that religion quite dominated over its followers and made them dependent on it. Durkheim tried to distinguish between religion and magic. He suggested that religious or sacred things are special and that commonplace things are profane. Magic rituals he claimed were just social events. Religious ideas were created while rituals were being performed causing many emotional participates to feel the presence of unseen beings among them, which was Durkheim s idea of a sacred world. Within this system there is a constitution, which determines and limits the role of government in Australian society; there is a monarch, who inherits the role of Head of State from his or her parent; and there is a parliament where elected members sit to create and vote on legislation. However, in the 1980s and 1990s a new political movement gained a large amount of popularity in Australia. Queen Elizabeth, as well as other past monarchs, have not had a political role in the governance of the country. • 25. Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer understand the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a boy named Cole Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees things that other people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see ghosts, among people as if living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe tries to help Cole with his problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other patients, Vincent Grey, who was a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to construct the theme of communication within the film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing to hint to the viewers what will happen next throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a valuable tool more than just once throughout the motion picture. For example, in the beginning Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home. Vincent Grey was a former patient of Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that he had failed him and then Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That would be a fatal wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a flashback. The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example indicates that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see. This is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe only wore an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears anything besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. • 28. J Coles Be Free Essay For this critical reflection of a protest song I have chosen J Coles Be Free . Through his music and lyrics, J Cole is constantly pushing a political agenda, questioning society and its norms as well as putting a focus on current and past events. There are multiple reasons why I chose this song and genre. Since the Watts riots in California there has not been a large scale African American rights protest. Blues started off the musical African American protest wave and it seemed to end with the death of Tupac. Since the early 2000 s African American music has strayed away from protest and evolved into story telling related to events in the life of the artist and the current trend in rap seems to be about fashion. It is safe to say protest music from the African American perspective had died. So it is amazing to see artist like J Cole still giving voice to the average person and questioning those who control us. The new wave of protest music has resulted from the recent police African American interactions that have resulted in many black teenagers dead. These events have caused riots in Missouri, Baltimore and Florida. J Coles be Free is a protest song about the mistreatment of black people and the recent tragedy involving Michael Brown. • 30. Students And Athletes Athletes Ambidexterity Amongst Students and Athletes MATH 141 (Prof. An) Final Project December 2015 Romeo Ardimento, Lorraine Jabouin, Christopher Kremer, Fiona Macleod Introduction/Background Being Ambidextrous can be quite useful; particularly for athletes and musicians. Many sports require the use of both hands, as do many instruments. For this reason our team decided to determine the difference in ambidexterity, if any, between people who are either athletes or musicians, and individuals who are not involved in either sports or music. We were interested in determining if the ability of participants to use their weak hand as well as their dominant hand is associated with participation in athletics or music. Does an individual s participation in either a sport or the fact that they play a musical instrument dictate how well they can use both hands? Methodology We decided that the best way to answer this question would be with a study. Our participants would be made up of 60 students. These participants would be made up of three equally divided identity groups. 20 athletes, 20 musicians, and 20 individuals who do not participate in sports or play an instrument (who from this point on will be referred to as the neither group). Those identified as athletes had to have had been on a Varsity team and those who were identified as musicians had to have been playing their instrument for more than two years. Individuals who fell into both categories were excluded. Participants were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Essay On The Trail Of Tears Along the Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears played a part in what is known as the Manifest Destiny, which was the expansion of the colonists to the west. Gold was found on the Cherokee land during the Georgia Gold Rush. The greed that it created was one of the leading causes of the Trail of Tears where thousands of Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their native lands (Cherokee.org). Little did the Native Americans realize that the new nation that was going to be forming around them would affect not only their lives but the lives of their descendants. Even though the Cherokee made efforts to keep their land through the court system and even attempted to assimilate to the American way of life it was to no avail. They tried to agree to treaties with the United States Government. Even though, they were eventually forced to leave their lands. By forcing the Native Americans to abandon their homes, robbing their lands, taking their freedom, and forcing them to adapt and to assimilate into a new land and culture showed how vindictive President Andrew Jackson was regarding the Native Americans. The Trail of Tears was an instance of the United States Government committing genocide against the Native Americans Until 1828, the federal government agreed that Cherokee had rights to their land, but when Andrew Jackson was elected President, that all ended. Jackson refused to believe that the tribes were sovereign and thus viewed Indian treaties, as an absurdity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Reflection About Hunting Hunting has dated back to ancient times when there were massive sheets of ice covering the planet, and yet, all of the evolving the human race has done, it is still a crucial part of some people s everyday life. It has been a family tradition for dads to take their sons into the woods, and teach them the ways of stalking your prey, and finally killing it. On my eighth birthday, I woke up to my dad dressed in a camouflage top holding onto a bow and arrow and a massive white target standing at his feet. His first words were we are going to have fun today . I instantly thought that that day I was going to be killing my first animal, but to my dismay, it turned out that blood was not shed for three years. I loved that bow and arrow, and I can remember everyday after school I would go to the garage and shoot that bow to the point where I couldn t manage to draw it back. After about month, I had lost hope in killing anything with that bow because I was not able to shoot it straight. There was a time that I was shooting in the garage at a target, and the arrow slipped out of my hand, and it had managed to hit a bottle of lighter fluid. Granted I there was not enough force behind the arrow to push it the entire way through the can, but it was enough to spill the lighter fluid all over my foam target. I was no longer to use my bow and arrow unsupervised. Years later, my dad decided to take me to the gun range. He had brought the gun that his father had taught him how to shoot ...
