Agriculture In China Since The Late 19th Century
Since the agricultural revolution, ninety nine percent of humanity had worked the fields of agriculture
in order to survive. Almost nobody had been able to move away from the fields to cities, and people in
the cities had almost never wanted to stop being a craftsman to begin a new life as a farmer. Although
the latter point remains true to this day, the former has been dramatically altered. With innovations in
agriculture as simple as hardened iron plows and better irrigation, slightly more people could make
their homes in cities. With the innovation of steam power and the reaper in the late 18th and early 19th
century, many more people had to leave farming as farm production increased to join in the steam
powered industry in the cites. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This created a great migration from farms to cities where farmers learned a low skill, low wage trade
in a highly productive factory, out producing high skilled artisans of the same vein. Supply of goods
skyrocketed high above the pre industrial era, driving prices way down. With such high production in
so many niches of the market, people could actually purchase nonessentials despite earning less
money from working in a factory; money was actually worth more. Because living in a city had
become cheaper, more farmers were attracted to come to work in a city further increasing this
migration. This migration is still happening today in China. Chinese are moving from agricultural to
urban areas for the same reasons americans and europeans have been doing since the 17th century.
What these factories to create, however, is a large increase in income and wealth inequality; however,
this barely matters because relatively everyone is better off. The rich did not steal their money from
anyone, and the poor are not having their money taken away. The resource pie has been getting bigger;
although some peoples pieces have been getting bigger faster, it does not change the fact that everyone
is better

President Andrew Jackson Essay
President AJ Andrew Jackson was born in 1767, and grew up in the border of North and South
Carolina. He attended frontier schools and acquired the reputation of being fiery tempered and willing
to fight all comers. He also learned to read, and he was often called on by the community to read
aloud the news from the Philadelphia papers.
In 1775, with the beginning of the American Revolution, Andrew Jackson, then only 13 years old
became an orderly and messenger. He took part in the Battle of Hanging Rock against the British and
in a few small skirmishes with British sympathizers known as Loyalists or Tories. His brother Hugh
was killed, and when the British raided Waxhaw, both he and Robert were captured. Because Jackson

After one year in the, Jackson moved to the Senate, the other chamber of the Congress of the United
States. He served from September 1797 to April 1798 and then retired to private life.
During the years of 1804 to 1812, Jackson settled, with his wife in his home retiring indefinately.
Although Jackson was active in local politics, he took little interest in national affairs. The one
exception was his brief involvement with the so called Burr conspiracy. Former Vice President Aaron
Burr, determined to restore his personal fortunes, convinced Jackson that he had government backing
to lead a filibustering expedition into Mexico. Jackson agreed to build him some boats, but when he
realized that Burr and his group were acting entirely on their own, he immediately dropped his
connection with the scheme. Jackson s hot temper involved him in a number of feuds and duels. Many
of them were caused by remarks made about his marriage. The duel with Charles Dickinson in 1806
stands out as an example of Jackson s characteristic refusal even to acknowledge the possibility of
defeat. Jackson let his opponent fire first, because Dickinson was a faster and better shot. Allowing
himself time to take deliberate aim, Jackson planned to kill his man with a single bullet, even if he had
shot me through the brain. Thus, Jackson took a bullet in the chest and, without flinching, calmly
killed his man. Jackson was also

The Nature of Evil in William Shakespeare’ s Othello Essay
William Shakespeare’s Othello uses different and unique techniques in his language to express the
nature of evil throughout the play. Verbal twists and the characters most importantly stress the act of
evil. Iago, most of all is portrayed as the “villain” or “protagonist in the play. Shakespeare uses this
character to set the basis of evil. Each plot point is spiraled further into tragedy due to the nature of
Iago and his manipulative language towards the other main characters.
Corruption overcomes the Venetian society as Iago uses his crafty skills of deceit. The plan to have
Othello turn against the ones he loves is the perfect example of evil’s nature. The power struggle is
evident between these two. This situation is the start to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
355,] By playing on his hopes, Iago is able to conjure money and jewels from Roderigo, making
himself a profit, while using Roderigo to further his other plans. He also thinks stealthy on his feet and
is able to improvise whenever something unexpected occurs. When Cassio takes hold of Desdemona s
hand before the arrival of the Moor Othello, Iago says, With as little a web as this will I ensnare as
great a fly as Cassio. [II, i, 163] This language demonstrates the evil inside Iago’s goals of retrieving
absolute power. He actually even says of himself, I am an honest man.... [II, iii, 245] Iago slowly
corrupts the character’s thoughts, creating ideas in their minds without implicating himself. His
medicine works! Thus credulous fools are caught.... [II, i, 44] And what s he then that says I play the
villain, when this advice is free I give, and honest, [II, iii, 299] says Iago. In turn, people rarely stop to
consider the fact that old Iago could be deceiving and manipulating them; yet they are convinced that
he is Honest Iago. From these quotes from “Othello” it is proven that the dialogue used between
Iago and the others is manipulative causing an evil outcome.
Iago’s complexity in character grows as the play comes closer to a conclusion. The tricky and crafty
way Shakespeare uses the evil in Iago is to make him seem amoral as opposed to the typical immoral
villain. At the climactic end of the play, Iago s plot and plan is given away to Othello

Massachusetts Bay Colony Dbq
In the 1630s to 1660s, the Puritans strong belief in god and its upholding shaped the Massachusetts
Bay Colony s development. The colony was fully based on the Puritan s view which painted their
religion and it effected the lifestyle. The Puritans were a highly religious group that believed god s
will was the absolute. As shown in document 3, it states how the church is always right and nothing
should be done to offend it. This shows the grasp of the Puritans hold toward god because this was a
statement of the church s membership and so it should display their beliefs. It demonstrates the way
that Puritans work for god and should not do anything to tarnish the name. Then in document 4, it
thanks god for bringing them to this country because this is where they flourished and developed.
Again the mention of god shows how the colony was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In document 5, it portrays god as all loving and he is the basis of morality. This shows the extent that
Puritans believed God controlled everything and was the judge to everything. Document 8 is about
how God was the leader and that the colonist should remember and be grateful for his guidance.
Higginson is a clergyman so it is natural that he would believe in the power of god and want to spread
it so others can see his view, this is reflected on the colony founded by the Puritanical principals.
When the puritans met with someone they disagreed with, it was because they challenged god. They
had a colony build by their views on god, so they banished the mavericks. Anne Hutchinson was
banished foe spreading word of not putting ultimate faith in god, and Roger William was also
banished for questioning

Power Of Magic In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The Power of Magic in A Midsummer Night s Dream One of the most important elements of
Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream is the contrast between the real world and a world lived
in by fairies, and other magical beings and forces. Magic is a powerful and useful tool for the
characters that can use it. Some characters abuse the power of magic, while others are more
responsible in how they use it. Shakespeare plays with the boundaries between fantasy and reality.
Like the reality and illusion and the mirrored world of fair and human. He looks at into man s conflict
with characteristics of human behavior. A Midsummer Night s Dream contains many supernatural
elements for example magic and transformation. Oberon is one of the characters that abuse the power
of magic. Oberon is the King of the Fairies, his magic affects his own life, and the lives of other
characters and everyone experience his magic differently. Oberon is married to Titania, Queen of the
Fairies, who got an Indian boy from her friend who passed away. Oberon desperately wants the Indian
boy to be one of his followers, but the boy is one of Titania followers and she will not give him up.
This is when Oberon decides to use magic so he could win the Indian boy. Oberon uses the magic of a
flower to make his wife, Titania fall in love with the creature she sees. Oberon says, Fetch me that
flower; the herd I shew d thee once: / The juice of it in sleeping eye lids laid / Will make or man or

The Narrator As An Invisible Man
The novel opens with the nameless narrator introducing himself to the reader as an invisible man. The
Narrator makes it clear that he is not actually invisible but is considered as such because people refuse
to see him. The Narrator is speaking from an underground space illuminated by a ridiculous number of
light bulbs underneath a whites only building. He goes on to tell the reader that he was not always in
this predicament and begins to tell the tale of his younger days which led him to his current situation.
Invisible Man pleads that the reader bear with him during this tale characterized by naivety, ignorance,
and eagerness. The tale opens with the Narrator being invited to give his high school valedictory
speech in front of leading white men in his community. When the Narrator arrives to give his speech,
he is forced to participate in a boxing style competition, along with several other boys, for the
entertainment of the white men in attendance. Invisible Man and the boys are then made to further
humiliate themselves by having to grab coins off of an electrified rug. Once this is over, the Narrator
is allowed to give his speech. The men love it until the Narrator slips up and says social equality
instead of social responsibility . After delivering his speech, Invisible Man is given a briefcase with a
scholarship to the state college for Negroes inside. Later that night, the Narrator has a dream about his
grandfather and the new briefcase. In the dream, Invisible Man

Comparing Mccandless, Emerson, And Henry David Thoreau
Self reliance is the freedom of being independent. One only relies on oneself and doesn t look for help
or for anyone to save them. One is perfectly content with being solely reliant. Three people who
believed greatly in self reliance were Chris McCandless, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David
Thoreau. They had many different beliefs and along with acting out in civil disobedience, acting in
nonconformity, thinking nature was most important, and being a transcendentalist, they was also self
reliant. McCandless, Emerson, and Thoreau were all people who believed strongly in self reliance.
One belief all three writers had is self reliance. In the nonfiction book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer,
the author talks about how McCandless was very independent

Facts About Athens
Brief historical background of Athens city Metrics of status
The first settlement of Athens was about 3000 BC, and it was located on the rock of Acropolis.
According to the tradition, Athens was founded, by King Theseus united in several state settlements of
Attica. According to the Greek Mythology, Athens is named after the goddess of wisdom, after she
defeated Poseidon in a competition for patronage in the city. Poseidon gave the city a spring of water
and Athena presented and olive tree. The citizens accepted the olive tree as a symbol of peace and
prosperity. Athena became the patroness of the city, and several temples were built in her honor.

The Characteristics Of Kamo No Chomei s Life
The Kamakura period was a balance between disaster and natural elegance. Kamo no Chomei s
coming of age included religious routines that created a path for himself that he followed whether or
not he liked. Being born into a family where serving higher authorities is mandatory, the quest to have
higher status in the world is expected. In Kamo no Chōmei s shoes he lacks social skill to advance
himself. This could then b pictured as growing the characteristics of Humility and Arrogance. For
Example, his father died young while Chomei was still in his teens, leaving him without the means for
social advancement. (Chomei 623) Much like today after coming of age and experience people can
figure out what they are good at and not so good at, and in Chomei shoes he excelled at poetry and
writing. Since being invited to the prestigious Imperial poetry office where all the best writings across
the state are collected. This is the beginning of Chomei s true character of reserve to himself and make
his status better. But since being denied a higher position in the shrine, Chomei reclusiveness
heightened. When Chomei moves to pure land he has been humbled by his experiences and his
enjoyment and fulfillment of what nature can give him and his writings, while at the same time he sees
people s greed for these same virtues. People are always looking for the new and better, never satisfied
with the stuff they have today. For instance, the new iPhone, people will always buy the new IPhone

Bull Tattoo Culture
Bull tattoos are symbolic of masculinity as far as the Samoans are concerned. Samoa s rich history and
cultural diversity has ensured that the art of tattooing, first introduced more than two thousand years
ago in Samoa, has burgeoned into a global movement! Tatau, the Samoan word for tattoo, portrays
correctness and workmanlike traits. These two traits have led to the concept of tattoos being
masculine, and bull tattoos, more so! Apart of its rich cultural magnificence, why should one give
attention to the various vagaries of the Samoans? And what do they have to do with the concept of bull
tattoos?
Did you know that one of the most famous wrestlers of our times, Dwayne Johnson alias The Rock, is
a Samoan who can trace his ancestry back to the Polynesian island of Samoa? The Rock has single

It did not separate from the firewall, and the fuel line showed no signs of loss of integrity. The cockpit

Difference Between Fly Fishing And Spin Fishing
Fly Fishing Vs Spin Fishing : Fly fishing is a fishing experience that is unlike any other. Being up in
the clear mountain waters just casting away, time flies faster than ever. Even on a day when the fish
aren t biting, and it just seems like the nothing can go right, just being there is enough to pass the day.
Then there are those days when catching a fish is effortless, every knot that is tied is perfect, and every
cast is better than the last one; those are the days that are unforgettable. There have been times when it
seems as if it is getting dark after just a few casts. Fly fishing is something that everyone should try.
Fly fishing and spin fishing, how are they different; how are they similar? Fly fishing is the casting of
artificial flies that come in all styles and sizes, in order to catch a fish. This style of fishing is mostly
done in streams and creeks for various types of trout. Spin fishing is the casting of artificial, or live
bait in order to catch various types of freshwater fish. Most spin fishing is done is rivers, lakes, and
ponds. The only real similarity between the two is that they both catch fish. However, that is where the
similarities stop ( The Difference Between... ). This means that everything else is different in its own
way. Fly fishing is different from spin fishing in its techniques, baits, and equipment.
The first difference between fly fishing and spin fishing is in their techniques. The first technique is

American Traditions And Qualities Of The United States Essay
For many international students, acclimating to American society can be troublesome and occasionally
disappointing. American traditions and qualities may be altogether different from those of your nation
of origin, and you may discover them befuddling. America s populace reflects surprising ethnic
differences. Non white individuals dwarf whites in a lesser expansive urban area. Daily papers
regularly utilize such terms as Asian American, Italian
American, and Bedouin American to mirror the ingenuity of different ethnic legacies inside the
Unified States. There are individuals whose skin is named white, dark, cocoa, yellow and red.
There are individuals who have numerous years of formal instruction and individuals who have about
none. There are the exceptionally rich and also the extremely poor. There are
Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Communists, Communists, Libertarians, and disciples of other
political perspectives too. There are Legal advisors, agriculturists, handymen, instructors, social
laborers, movement officers and individuals in a great many different occupations. Some live in urban
zones and some in rustic ones. Given this differing qualities, would one be able to conveniently
discuss Americans ? Probably so, given that one is watchful.

A Symbolic Activity Essay
Memorialization as a Symbolic Activity There is a growing awareness that addressing past injustices
are crucial for the process of healing and reconciliation. In order to move towards a peaceful future,
governments must acknowledge and respond to the wrongs and injustices of the past. While there is an
agreement between people that the process of reconciliation must acknowledge the wrongs of the past
and the victims, many scholars debate about how such acknowledgments are best communicated, so
that they will be sufficiently credible and effective in improving future relations. In fact, many argue
that memory is crucially important as a response to past injustices, especially when dealing with
human rights violations. Memorializing the past, through memorials, commemorative ceremonies,
etc., is widely promoted as a valuable way of redressing the wrongs of the past. But what kind of
redress can memorials provide, and how can they advance in transitional justice? Indeed, I consider
these symbolic reparations to be a double edged sword due to the strengths and weaknesses, it presents
as a practice for redressing the losses that were suffered by victims. In recent years, forgiveness has
attracted attention as a possible response of victims to perpetrators in past violent human rights
abuses. Moreover, transitional justice focuses on the effective and legitimate ways of addressing past
wrongs and moving towards achieving political reconciliation and re establishing societies

structures, the nearest neighbor algorithm for processing the skyline query, the branch and bound
skyline (BBS) algorithm, the sort filter skyline (SFS) algorithm that exploits pre arranged lists, and
linear erase sorting (LESS) algorithm for the skyline. Recently, there has been a growing interest in

In [28], it is shown that the proposed method is not correct. Sharifzadeh and colleagues [29] have
proposed another version of the method that eliminates the flaws of the previous version, but it is
computationally costly. Other methods for calculating skyline have been suggested as well. A multi
objective optimized process for skyline has been presented based on the genetic algorithm by Özyer et
al. [30]. Fuzzy skyline has been proposed to make the skyline more flexible. In particular, fuzzy
skyline in [31] is considered and a flexible overcome relation is provided. This relationship makes it
possible to extend skyline with points that are not highly dominated by any other points (even if they
are strongly dominated). Yet, other methods arise to improve the skyline. A variety of fuzzy skyline
methods are studied in [32]. In the paper, five incentives are raised to fuzzify the skyline. The first
motivation is to refine the skyline with the introduction of a sequence of points to find the best skyline
points. The second is to make the skyline more flexible. This means that where points conditions are
close to the skyline points, they are also considered as members of the skyline. In the third case, the
skyline can become easier with different methods. For example, by

The IT Benefits Risks and Auditing Opportunities from
Jacksonville Jaguars
1. Introduction
The Jacksonville Jaguars National Football League (NFL) was one of the first major sporting
organizations to take advantage of information technology tools to sale snacks and souvenirs in their
stadium.
From 1995 fans of Jacksonville Jaguars can use Spot Cards to buy drinks, snacks and team souvenirs.
In other words, they needn t to use cash and change to pay for these things. The reloadable Spot
Cards, which contain an embedded electronic chip, operate manner similar to other smart cards such
as Kinko s Express Pay cards and many retail establishments including university student
identification cards that are used for fee payment, meal and book purchases, and building access.
Not only does the Spot Card offer benefits to fans in the stadium, but the use of IT also offers
advantages to stadium vendors by providing better financial information when monitoring their
business. Though SC offers improvement for the fans and vendors, those sales need assurance that the
technology and related information produced is accurate and reliable.
2. Process of IT Payment in Jacksonville Jaguars

An Analysis Of The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
The metamorphosis, written by a German author Franz Kafka. Kafka and his Metamorphosis is a
masterpiece of absurdist literature, but what is the most absurd part in this whole story ? Everyone s
first reaction may be human turn into beetles this setting could be the most absurd sense indeed,
because this kind of transformation is never going to happen in reality. However, in the history of
literature, there are numerous similar metamorphosis plot happens between human and animals or
plants, the ancient Greek mythology has the story of the bulls; the ancient Roman Apuleius s golden
donkey tells the story of a man into a donkey and so on. Therefore human turn into beetles is not
particularly absurd set, or that is not enough to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the death of Gregory, the family relieved, have to go out to picnic. From Gregory into insects to
death, only a few days time, this family is not like just lost the baby son look. We can not help to ask:
this mentality is really normal? People in real life will not become insects, but their families will also
appear above the absurd mentality? Let s take a look at the subjective feelings of Greggel s insects:
loss of language skills, inconvenience, reduced appetite, and care for people. What is the closest thing
in real life? That is sick. Kraft s most prominent artistic feature is the overall absurdity and detail of
the truth, the work of the central event is absurd, but the central environment of the incident is true,
resulting in actual situation effect. Specifically to this text, the central event that becomes a bug is
absurd, but the family s response to this event is real. When a person from the pillar into a terminally
ill patient, his family will certainly be very concerned, very sympathetic. But when the patient
gradually lost the ability, when the family economic burden is getting heavier, the family s boredom
and complain will naturally arise. And when the patient becomes the biggest obstacle to a new life, the
family is even happy for his disappearance. We will never become a bug, but we will definitely
become a patient. If the closest person would treat us like a bug, that would be more desperate. The
main idea of Kafka s

The Soviet Union Of Soviet Republics
Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, former Soviet republics have been forced to
undertake the harrowing task of achieving stability for their citizens and developing their own
identities independent from the former hegemon. Some, such as Poland, have been successful in this
regard, while others, such as Georgia, have been less fortunate. For Ukraine, a vast agricultural
country with centuries old ties to Russia, answers to the questions of stability and identity have been
uncertain ones. In spring 2014, following the Ukrainian Revolution in which pro Russian president
Viktor Yanukovych was deposed and replaced by Olexander Turchnyov, Russian forces invaded
Crimea after signing an accession treaty on March 18. Throughout the year, this conflict escalated
with violence between pro Russian militants along with Russian forces and Ukrainian military and
thousands of deaths. The violence in Crimea, where Russians have an ethnic majority of 58%, and
eastern Ukraine began to dissipate in late September when Russian military commenced a withdrawal
from Ukraine. The violence intensified again in early November when pro Russian separatists in
eastern Ukraine held new elections supported by Russia and denounced by Ukraine, the United States,
and the European Union. This is an issue that has vast economic repercussions for powerful eurozone
countries such as Germany, whose GDP growth rate fell to 0.4% in the second quarter, and who has

Feudalism In Cinderella
The French invaded the Rhineland, in what is now Germany, in 1792 during the French Revolution.
During this time, the French invaders pillaged towns, raped women, and destroyed entire families.
While the French believed that they were liberating the Germans from the yoke of feudalism, (Large
629) they were really creating a bitter enemy of the German people who found unity in hating
anything French. This new found zealotry was exemplified during the Romanticism period by writers
such as the Grimm brothers. They believed that writing down these folk tales was a way of accurately
representing their German culture. Due to this deep seeded belief, they allude to the French invaders
of Germany in Cinderella through the use of the evil stepsisters who invade Cinderella s home. When
the stepsisters arrive, Cinderella is forced to work from dusk to dawn in her own house, but she is able
to maintain her kindness. This image created through Cinderella s struggle can be compared to that of
the German people. The portrayal of the evil stepsisters as France, Cinderella as Germany, and the
Dove as the Holy Trinity, shows that the Grimm s version of Cinderella acts not only as a story to
entertain audiences but as a way to represent the German s struggles against the French occupation of
the Rhineland. The stepsisters that intruded into Cinderella s home are unmistakable allusions toward
the French invaders of 1792. The Grimm s used some of the essential elements of nationalism when

The Phillips Curve Essay
The Phillips Curve
Economists agree that unemployment and inflation are two of the major macroeconomic problems of
the twentieth century. If a relationship between the two existed then this would be a major break
through for the macro management of the economy. Phillips work was empirical started with evidence
and worked towards a theory. The causation for the Phillips theory was that the level of
unemployment caused the rate of change in money wages to be what it was.
What economic theory lies behind this?
As unemployment decreases the available pull of labour goes down. This means that resources
become increasingly scarce and workers can push for higher wage rates. Or as unemployment
decreases more people have

They held that it was the government s duty to achieve the correct level of demand by manipulating its
own spending and tax receipts, or in other words, to have an active fiscal policy. This policy required
the government to spend more than it received if the economy had less than full employment. As a
consequence, aggregate demand would rise through a multiplier effect and unemployment would fall.
The inflation controversy Demand Pull or Cost Push?
Keynesian economists were divided into two camps. Some believed that inflation was caused by too
much demand for goods and services, or excess demand i.e. Demand Pull Inflation. Such economists
were very enthusiastic about the Phillips curve because it seemed to provide strong evidence for their
views. The second camp of Keynesian economists believed that inflation was caused by cost pressures
arising from high wage settlements gained by strong trade unions and from increases in import prices
i.e. Cost Push Inflation. They were doubtful about the usefulness of the Phillips curve. On the

evidence of the Phillips curve they thought that wage inflation and unemployment could be traded off
against each other, that policy makers could decide to have a bit less unemployment in exchange for
accepting a bit more wage inflation or vice versa. The Phillips curve helped the demand pull
Keynesians in another way as in order to manage the level

Vera Lynn s Song The White Cliffs Of Dover
For all the world resembling Moses confronting a pair of rebellious Israelites, Bishop Brian Taylor
glowered at us from across his large old oak desk in his ninth floor office. He seemed both perturbed
and distrustful of our motives, and consequently, began our meeting by testing Reverend Fran s
resolve and subsequently probing her theology and methodology. When he finally realized that her
vernacular liturgy was from the Anglican Book of Alternative Services (BAS) he relaxed somewhat.
He seemed particularly interested in my idiomized setting of Psalm 148 to the tune of Vera Lynn s hit
song The White Cliffs of Dover . Vera Lynn s music apparently meant something special to him; still,
his religious conditioning did not permit him to regard Vera Lynn s 1940 s swing style of music as a
musical idiom he or his contemporaries could relate to in Anglican worship. His religious training was
too strong to allow even a beloved musical idiom to permeate the Anglican worship space on a regular
basis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

quandary: if things turned sour, Parish Council controlled the worship space and the bishop controlled

DBQ Essay On New Year s Resolutions
As you say goodbye to one year and hello to another, people all around the world welcome one more
thing, New Year s resolutions. New Year s has been a source of celebration for almost 4,000 years.
While it now falls on the first of January, it was initially celebrated on the first new moon following
the vernal equinox by the Babylonians. A huge festival known as Akitu was then celebrated to mark
the new year along with celebrating the mythical victory of the sky god Marduk (Source D). The
celebrations and meanings of the celebrations have changed over these years, but some traditions do
remain. The Ancient Babylonians made these promises to earn favors with the gods and to the start the

Research done by psychologist John Norcross found that only forty percent of the people who made
New Year s resolutions kept them after six months (Source A). In his research, he seems to say that
this is the reason resolutions are pointless. If you take a more optimistic look at these numbers, that is
a large number of people who are actually making a positive change to their lives. He shows that after
two years the numbers are even lower with only nineteen percent following their resolutions
(Document A) Again, the eighty one percent failures are disappointing, but the nineteen percent of
success may be life changing for people. Even a small resolution, like having a protein shake once a
week, can make someone happier and feel a real sense of accomplishment. New Year s resolutions,
when they are achieved or at least attempted, give people a goal and a chance to make an important
change. This encourages people to feel hopeful about a goal, whether it is losing weight, eating better,
or improving grades. Again, people will point out the disappointment that people may feel if they fail
to follow through with their resolution. Although that may occur, the happiness that will result from
achieving a goal will be very

The Field Of Legal Theory Is Continually Being Refined
The field of legal theory is continually being refined through further thought, and through the process
of greater collective experience. The majority of modern legal works find their roots in the
Enlightenment period. The modern legal theory has developed into two main schools that deal with
how the law is and does not address what the law should be; those two fields are legal positivism and
legal realism. Of the two primary schools of thought, legal positivism is the more common, and it
defines the law as it is found in the actual practices or institutions of society. Two of the most notable
authors of legal positivism are H.L.A. Hart and Hans Kelsen both were heavily influenced by ideas of
the Enlightenment, however each had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even custom is not law unless it is recognized and enforced by a competent human authority. These
themes were prevalent in Hobbes s Leviathan and influenced the entirety of positivism, most notably
Hume and Kant. The influence of David Hume and Immanuel Kant is clearly evident in the writings
of H.L.A. Hart and Hans Kelsen. The primary ideas of Hume that influenced Hart were that the world
as it is can only be perceived and that facts and values came from different sources. Hume felt that
facts were observable occurrences in the physical world and values were derived from the community.
One of the most important ideas that Hume developed through the premise that the world is only
perceived is that there is no cause and effect as it is only a chain of facts linked by necessity. The most
significant ideas that Kant developed were the concept of synthetic a priori knowledge and that the
human conscience establishes what the mind knows. These two separate ideas go well together being
that Kant is developing the existence of empirical knowledge that is known before any experience,
which goes handily with the conscience determining what the mind knows. The ideas of Hume and
Kant will prove a sound foundation for Kelsen and Hart to build on. The work of H.L.A. Hart was
most influenced by the work of David Hume. Hart defines the law as the voluntary observance of the
commands of the sovereign. Ratnapala

Migrant Groups Are More At Risk Of Developing Mental Disorder
Today there are approximately 1 billion migrants in the world out of which 214 million are
international migrants and 740 million are internal migrants. This wide range of population include
workers, undocumented migrants, students, refugees and others, with each having different needs,
health determinants and vulnerability. The health needs of this large population are considerable
(WHO, 2015). Migration is a stressful experience and not all of the migrants respond to the stress
similarly. The response of individual can be influenced by multiple factors like personal, social and
cultural. Some of these factors are aggravated by the loss of social support system, cultural values,
religious norms, changes in own identity and adjustment to a new culture. These stresses related to
migration impact the mental health of migrants and there are strong evidences which suggest that
certain migrant groups are more at risk of developing mental disorder. Moreover, the rate of mental
illness is also increased among migrants (Bhugra, Gupta, Bhui, Craig, Dogra Ingleby, 2011). The loss
of culture and social support cause grief which is a healthy reaction and natural consequence of
migration. However, psychiatric intervention is required if significant distress is caused and symptoms
persist for specific period of time. Cultural bereavement is an experience of migrated person due to the

The Aspect of Faux Furs in the Fashion Industry
Faux (f oh) Made in imitation; Fake
Faux furs in the fashion industry is the only moral substitute against real furs. Furs in the fashion
industry, is it moral? This has been an alarming question for quite some time. In response, the creation
of Faux furs has taken the industry by storm. For years, the bearing of fur in fashion was associated
with wealth, luxury, and glamour. With this perception of status, comes the perception of faux furs.
Associated with cheap, knock offs of furs; identified as a cheap imitation for the mass markets. (Trew,

Faux furs have taken primary standpoint for use of fashion, and are a predominant political statement
in the industry. Designers are using faux fur in a proud statement against the fur industry. Faux furs
are being used as political protest statements, and have evolved into a creature of their own from a life
of being a tacky counterfeit. While faux fur has very recently created a strong positive presence in
fashion, it s debate has been dated back to the 19th century. PETA s campaign of naked celebrities
protested that they would rather go naked than wear fur ; while David Bailey s Dumb Animals

The Importance Of Art And The Judgement Of Hunefer
Art by its nature is a subject of the philosophical, social, economic, political or religious context
surrounding its creator. More often than not, a work of art addresses a specific topic or somewhat
revolves around a particular person. Therefore, it is impossible to separate the context of a piece of
painting, either historical or cultural, to its intrinsic value or the artwork s meaning. On the other hand,
different cultures and time utilized specific conventions that govern the representation of objects of
creativity. This essay highlights various pieces of art and their relationship to particular cultural,
political, economic, or social settings. Moreover, it pinpoints how different times influence art
presentation. One of the pieces of art that shows the relationship between context and art is the
Judgement of Hunefer as illustrated in the Book of The Dead (Kleiner, 2016). The Judgement of
Hunefer is a painting on a papyrus scroll showing the journey of Hunefer, a royal scribe, and steward
of Seti, from his death to the afterlife. The image illustrates several items including spells and prayers
needed to secure a happy immortality (Kleiner, 2016). Moreover, the picture shows several steps in
transition into the afterlife including Anubis, the jackal headed god of embalmment leading Hunefer
into the hall of judgment, Anubis weighing Hunefer s heart against a feather, and finally Hunefer
meeting Horus to receive an award of the eternal life (Kleiner, 2016). The

Contemplative Importance
The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1)
Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical
exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating
in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to
attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating
in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s
present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and
words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices
in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my
opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a
sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully
embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain
topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation
portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and
constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Since arriving at

Sir Isaac Newton Research Project.
Prior to Sir Isaac Newton, Europe was still holding onto the Aristotelian views about the universe.
However, during the 16th century, after the Italian Renaissance, the scientific revolution unleashed.
Nicolaus Copernicus dispelled Ptolemy s theories and brought forth his own, which received an
enormous amount of backlash from the church. The Copernican Hypothesis theorised that the stars,
planets, including the Earth, revolved around the fixed sun. The hypothesis, however, presented three
issues: First, The Stars remained motionless, its paths created as the Earth revolved around its axis.
Second, Copernicus theory implied that the universe was immense, if not infinite. Third, Copernicus
characterised the Earth as just another planet, not as a heavenly, different sphere as previously
conceived. It took a few other Astronomers to solve the issues that remained after Copernicus.

dependant on doctors willingness to participate. Encouraging doctors to get involved will be difficult.
There may be a need for a gatekeeper. Before getting doctors involved, specific permission will be
required. In Scotland, any NHS research must be approved by the Research Scotland Permissions
Coordinating Centre. This body will also hopefully aid me in getting in contact with doctors.
Before conducting such interviews ethical clearance will be sought. In these interviews, I aim to
include doctors from both genders, with a range of ages and ranges of professional experience. This
will maintain fairness and show if there are any differences between justifications depending on their
previous medical experience. In the interests of time and cost saving these interviews will be
conducted

Sonic Drive-In Restaurant Essay examples
The fast food industry is changing everyday. There are new products being introduced in the market
and new slogans being created. The companies in the fast food industry will do their best to make the
greater burger, and to make bigger and better fries.
Founded in 1953, Sonic has become the largest drive in chain in the nation. Sonic was founded by
Troy Smith, Jr. in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His dream was to own his own business. Sonic Drive In keeps
the 1950s alive through its chain of drive in restaurants, each complete with speaker based ordering
systems and carhop servers some on roller skates. Sonics top competitors are McDonald s, Burger
King, and Wendy s. McDonald s is the leading competitor in the fast food industry. ... Show more

Exhibit 2. Swot Analysis of Sonic: America s Drive in
Opportunities: Strengths: Sonics financial performance has had a great growth in the economy. From
1992 2001, net sales increased annually by 27%,19%,25%,22%,21%,20%,17%,8%,and 18%. And on
March 22, 2003, Sonic reported net income of $12.6 billion and revenue increased by 19%. Another
opportunity is Sonic is very product differentiated. Sonic is known for its unique made to order menu
items. Sonic continues to support menu innovations, such as its breakfast menu, Sonic Summer
Nights, toaster sandwiches, extra long cheese coneys, and frozen and fountain favorites. Hamburgers
are made to order and served in aluminum foil, preserving the heat and drinks are served in Styrofoam
cups to preserve the cold.
Opportunities: Weakness: Human resources: There is a low employee rate because of the high
turnover. The restaurant industry tends employ more retirees than the younger generation. However,
the industry could strengthen this weakness, by making the companies more attractive to the younger
generation.
Threats: Strengths: Sonic is operating in a fast food industry that is dominated by large competitors,
but through it all Sonic stays on top as the nations largest drive in chain.
Threats: Weakness: The rising popularity of dieting could be real threat to Sonic. Sonics competitors
have low carb menus and Sonic does not carry it

Soviet Union and the United States Race into Space
In 1957, the Soviet Union and the United States once rivals in the Cold War began to race for being
the best in spaceflight. The space race was eventually resolved in an agreement in 1972. Before this
agreement, each sent satellites in attempts to try to out do the other. Satellites eventually turned to
manned spacecrafts, which then turned to men on the moon. Now there is the International Space
Station, which is a permanently crewed and cooperative laboratory in space. All of this started with a
little friendly competition between the USSR and the United States. However, despite the fun space
typically is, the government should not spend any more time up in space and should spend its time
trying to correct the plummeting economy and other problems here on Earth.
Background
In order to truly understand space exploration, it is crucial to have a strong and accurate sense of
background knowledge of the space race. The foundation of rocketry was built by Wernher Von
Braun. Von Braun was the inventor of the rocket and the world s first ballistic missile the V 2 (The
Hunt). In 1932, he tested his rocket in front of the military, only to have it fail (Bellis). Over time he
was able to design and construct rockets that were able to function, like the previously mentioned V 2
rocket. The V 2 was an extremely deadly rocket; it travelled at 2,386 miles per hour with its load of
one ton of high explosive (Trueman). The rockets were later used in World War Two. About 1000 V2 s

Comparing Kant, Liberal Legacies And Foreign Affairs
In Kant, Liberal Legacies, and Foreign Affairs, Doyle attempts to disprove the Realist political system
while advocating for the Liberal political system using second opinions and various forms of
evidence. Doyle creates a strong case for the adoption of liberal democracies within states because, as
he explains, promotes peace between them. He discusses the fact that states who adopt a domestic
liberal system hold the same key institutions and these create a pacifist effect among liberal states.
Throughout his paper, Doyle addresses a couple main items. The first being the fact that liberal states
do not go to war with other liberal states, and the second being the fact that despite remaining
peaceable with each other, liberal states have problems with many other non liberal states. Throughout
his paper, Doyle discusses the liberalism will bring peace rule as if it is already proven and true
despite historical evidence, and can be used to predict an outcome for the future. This type of
discussion is for a law and not a hypothesis. Doyle also seems to claim that the political nature of the
individual state will solely determine its policies and actions. He discredits the Realist point of view
and does not dabble with the possibility that the anarchical system of the world could contribute to
states actions as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Insight Into Contemporary British And Indian Societies
With reference to contemporary Britain and one other society, explain ways in which the societies are
held together through common cultures but are also unequal and divided. This essay will demonstrate
some key concepts in sociology by providing an insight into how contemporary British and Indian
societies have held together through common cultures but are unequal and divided. It will explain how
shared culture, social organisation, values and norms between the two societies may help produce
stability and conformity within themselves. It will also highlight that there are systematic differences
between societies in relation to key sociological concepts. The text will demonstrate this by into
different aspects of their cultures featuring its norms and values, marriage and families, stratification
and Inequalities whilst attempting to link these to two key sociological theories. Norms are considered
to be standard, especially of social behaviour that is expected, whereas values are the Principles or
standards of behaviour of what is important in life.(OFORD: Online) Contemporary Britain has many
norms and values in contrast to Indian culture. The United Kingdom is a crowded country. People
cope with this situation by being reserved and apprehensive in public, politely ignoring strangers,
quietly minding their own business. (BYRON, 2001) Even though in British culture it is considered
normal to be reserved and reserved in public, in the contrary Indian culture is very

Risk Management Is A Essential Component Of Any Business
Risk Management is a vital component of any business, especially health care. Risk management can
be generally defined as recognizing, preventing, and monitoring situations that could result in injury
or liability, monetary loss, or noncompliance of regulations (Chubb Health Care, 2004, 9). In a basic
risk management system, risks are identified in separate risk area. Each risk area is handled by a
different department. It addresses the risks to an organization at the department level. In the basic risk
management system, the risks are evaluated at a reactive approach rather than a proactive approach. In
comparison, the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) system addresses risks as an organization, or
enterprise, level and is proactive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Significant risk events must be identified. The risks are analyzed based on impact and evaluated as an
inherent basis or a residual basis. Risk response is determined by the method that best fits the
organization s objectives and risk tolerances. This can be by avoidance, acceptance, reduction, or
sharing. The organization implements policies to respond to the risk and carry out the policy.
Communication of the risk and its response is timely and appropriately disseminated through the
organization. The ERM system allows for monitoring, updating, and maintaining through ongoing
evaluations of processes and policies (Brannan and Taylor, n.d).
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has moved their focus
to patient safety. JCAHO now performs unannounced surveys of accredited facilities to ensure that
their standards are being followed and patient safety is being addressed. When a survey is being
conducted, the surveyor evaluates compliance with JCAHO standards through staff responds and
documentation review as if they were a patient in that facility that was receiving care. Health care
organizations must be in the mode of continual readiness and compliance and National Patient Safety
Goals. The National Patient Safety Goals address slips and falls, communication,

  • 2. Agriculture In China Since The Late 19th Century Since the agricultural revolution, ninety nine percent of humanity had worked the fields of agriculture in order to survive. Almost nobody had been able to move away from the fields to cities, and people in the cities had almost never wanted to stop being a craftsman to begin a new life as a farmer. Although the latter point remains true to this day, the former has been dramatically altered. With innovations in agriculture as simple as hardened iron plows and better irrigation, slightly more people could make their homes in cities. With the innovation of steam power and the reaper in the late 18th and early 19th century, many more people had to leave farming as farm production increased to join in the steam powered industry in the cites. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This created a great migration from farms to cities where farmers learned a low skill, low wage trade in a highly productive factory, out producing high skilled artisans of the same vein. Supply of goods skyrocketed high above the pre industrial era, driving prices way down. With such high production in so many niches of the market, people could actually purchase nonessentials despite earning less money from working in a factory; money was actually worth more. Because living in a city had become cheaper, more farmers were attracted to come to work in a city further increasing this migration. This migration is still happening today in China. Chinese are moving from agricultural to urban areas for the same reasons americans and europeans have been doing since the 17th century. What these factories to create, however, is a large increase in income and wealth inequality; however, this barely matters because relatively everyone is better off. The rich did not steal their money from anyone, and the poor are not having their money taken away. The resource pie has been getting bigger; although some peoples pieces have been getting bigger faster, it does not change the fact that everyone is better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. President Andrew Jackson Essay President AJ Andrew Jackson was born in 1767, and grew up in the border of North and South Carolina. He attended frontier schools and acquired the reputation of being fiery tempered and willing to fight all comers. He also learned to read, and he was often called on by the community to read aloud the news from the Philadelphia papers. In 1775, with the beginning of the American Revolution, Andrew Jackson, then only 13 years old became an orderly and messenger. He took part in the Battle of Hanging Rock against the British and in a few small skirmishes with British sympathizers known as Loyalists or Tories. His brother Hugh was killed, and when the British raided Waxhaw, both he and Robert were captured. Because Jackson refused to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After one year in the, Jackson moved to the Senate, the other chamber of the Congress of the United States. He served from September 1797 to April 1798 and then retired to private life. During the years of 1804 to 1812, Jackson settled, with his wife in his home retiring indefinately. Although Jackson was active in local politics, he took little interest in national affairs. The one exception was his brief involvement with the so called Burr conspiracy. Former Vice President Aaron Burr, determined to restore his personal fortunes, convinced Jackson that he had government backing to lead a filibustering expedition into Mexico. Jackson agreed to build him some boats, but when he realized that Burr and his group were acting entirely on their own, he immediately dropped his connection with the scheme. Jackson s hot temper involved him in a number of feuds and duels. Many of them were caused by remarks made about his marriage. The duel with Charles Dickinson in 1806 stands out as an example of Jackson s characteristic refusal even to acknowledge the possibility of defeat. Jackson let his opponent fire first, because Dickinson was a faster and better shot. Allowing himself time to take deliberate aim, Jackson planned to kill his man with a single bullet, even if he had shot me through the brain. Thus, Jackson took a bullet in the chest and, without flinching, calmly killed his man. Jackson was also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Nature of Evil in William Shakespeare’ s Othello Essay William Shakespeare’s Othello uses different and unique techniques in his language to express the nature of evil throughout the play. Verbal twists and the characters most importantly stress the act of evil. Iago, most of all is portrayed as the “villain” or “protagonist in the play. Shakespeare uses this character to set the basis of evil. Each plot point is spiraled further into tragedy due to the nature of Iago and his manipulative language towards the other main characters. Corruption overcomes the Venetian society as Iago uses his crafty skills of deceit. The plan to have Othello turn against the ones he loves is the perfect example of evil’s nature. The power struggle is evident between these two. This situation is the start to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 355,] By playing on his hopes, Iago is able to conjure money and jewels from Roderigo, making himself a profit, while using Roderigo to further his other plans. He also thinks stealthy on his feet and is able to improvise whenever something unexpected occurs. When Cassio takes hold of Desdemona s hand before the arrival of the Moor Othello, Iago says, With as little a web as this will I ensnare as great a fly as Cassio. [II, i, 163] This language demonstrates the evil inside Iago’s goals of retrieving absolute power. He actually even says of himself, I am an honest man.... [II, iii, 245] Iago slowly corrupts the character’s thoughts, creating ideas in their minds without implicating himself. His medicine works! Thus credulous fools are caught.... [II, i, 44] And what s he then that says I play the villain, when this advice is free I give, and honest, [II, iii, 299] says Iago. In turn, people rarely stop to consider the fact that old Iago could be deceiving and manipulating them; yet they are convinced that he is Honest Iago. From these quotes from “Othello” it is proven that the dialogue used between Iago and the others is manipulative causing an evil outcome. Iago’s complexity in character grows as the play comes closer to a conclusion. The tricky and crafty way Shakespeare uses the evil in Iago is to make him seem amoral as opposed to the typical immoral villain. At the climactic end of the play, Iago s plot and plan is given away to Othello ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Higginson is a clergyman so it is natural that he would believe in the power of god and want to spread it so others can see his view, this is reflected on the colony founded by the Puritanical principals. When the puritans met with someone they disagreed with, it was because they challenged god. They had a colony build by their views on god, so they banished the mavericks. In order to move towards a peaceful future, governments must acknowledge and respond to the wrongs and injustices of the past. While there is an agreement between people that the process of reconciliation must acknowledge the wrongs of the past and the victims, many scholars debate about how such acknowledgments are best communicated, so that they will be sufficiently credible and effective in improving future relations. In fact, many argue that memory is crucially important as a response to past injustices, especially when dealing with human rights violations. Memorializing the past, through memorials, commemorative ceremonies, etc., is widely promoted as a valuable way of redressing the wrongs of the past. But what kind of redress can memorials provide, and how can they advance in transitional justice? During this time, the French invaders pillaged towns, raped women, and destroyed entire families. While the French believed that they were liberating the Germans from the yoke of feudalism, (Large 629) they were really creating a bitter enemy of the German people who found unity in hating anything French. This new found zealotry was exemplified during the Romanticism period by writers such as the Grimm brothers. They believed that writing down these folk tales was a way of accurately representing their German culture. Due to this deep seeded belief, they allude to the French invaders of Germany in Cinderella through the use of the evil stepsisters who invade Cinderella s home. When the stepsisters arrive, Cinderella is forced to work from dusk to dawn in her own house, but she is able to maintain her kindness. This image created through Cinderella s struggle can be compared to that of the German people. The portrayal of the evil stepsisters as France, Cinderella as Germany, and the Dove as the Holy Trinity, shows that the Grimm s version of Cinderella acts not only as a story to entertain audiences but as a way to represent the German s struggles against the French occupation of the Rhineland. The causation for the Phillips theory was that the level of unemployment caused the rate of change in money wages to be what it was. What economic theory lies behind this? As unemployment decreases the available pull of labour goes down. This means that resources become increasingly scarce and workers can push for higher wage rates. They held that it was the government s duty to achieve the correct level of demand by manipulating its own spending and tax receipts, or in other words, to have an active fiscal policy. This policy required the government to spend more than it received if the economy had less than full employment. As a consequence, aggregate demand would rise through a multiplier effect and unemployment would fall. The inflation controversy Demand Pull or Cost Push? Keynesian economists were divided into two camps. Some believed that inflation was caused by too much demand for goods and services, or excess demand i.e. Demand Pull Inflation. Such economists were very enthusiastic about the Phillips curve because it seemed to provide strong evidence for their views. The second camp of Keynesian economists believed that inflation was caused by cost pressures arising from high wage settlements gained by strong trade unions and from increases in import prices i.e. Cost Push Inflation. They were doubtful about the usefulness of the Phillips curve. On the Nicholas Perry evidence of the Phillips curve they thought that wage inflation and unemployment could be traded off against each other, that policy makers could decide to have a bit less unemployment in exchange for accepting a bit more wage inflation or vice versa. The Phillips curve helped the demand pull Keynesians in another way as in order to manage the level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vera Lynn s Song The White Cliffs Of Dover For all the world resembling Moses confronting a pair of rebellious Israelites, Bishop Brian Taylor glowered at us from across his large old oak desk in his ninth floor office. He seemed both perturbed and distrustful of our motives, and consequently, began our meeting by testing Reverend Fran s resolve and subsequently probing her theology and methodology. When he finally realized that her vernacular liturgy was from the Anglican Book of Alternative Services (BAS) he relaxed somewhat. He seemed particularly interested in my idiomized setting of Psalm 148 to the tune of Vera Lynn s hit song The White Cliffs of Dover . Vera Lynn s music apparently meant something special to him; still, his religious conditioning did not permit him to regard Vera Lynn s 1940 s swing style of music as a musical idiom he or his contemporaries could relate to in Anglican worship. New Year s has been a source of celebration for almost 4,000 years. While it now falls on the first of January, it was initially celebrated on the first new moon following the vernal equinox by the Babylonians. A huge festival known as Akitu was then celebrated to mark the new year along with celebrating the mythical victory of the sky god Marduk (Source D). He shows that after two years the numbers are even lower with only nineteen percent following their resolutions (Document A) Again, the eighty one percent failures are disappointing, but the nineteen percent of success may be life changing for people. Even a small resolution, like having a protein shake once a week, can make someone happier and feel a real sense of accomplishment. New Year s resolutions, when they are achieved or at least attempted, give people a goal and a chance to make an important change. This encourages people to feel hopeful about a goal, whether it is losing weight, eating better, or improving grades. The Field Of Legal Theory Is Continually Being Refined The field of legal theory is continually being refined through further thought, and through the process of greater collective experience. The majority of modern legal works find their roots in the Enlightenment period. The modern legal theory has developed into two main schools that deal with how the law is and does not address what the law should be; those two fields are legal positivism and legal realism. Of the two primary schools of thought, legal positivism is the more common, and it defines the law as it is found in the actual practices or institutions of society. These themes were prevalent in Hobbes s Leviathan and influenced the entirety of positivism, most notably Hume and Kant. The influence of David Hume and Immanuel Kant is clearly evident in the writings of H.L.A. Hart and Hans Kelsen. The primary ideas of Hume that influenced Hart were that the world as it is can only be perceived and that facts and values came from different sources. Hume felt that facts were observable occurrences in the physical world and values were derived from the community. One of the most important ideas that Hume developed through the premise that the world is only perceived is that there is no cause and effect as it is only a chain of facts linked by necessity. The most significant ideas that Kant developed were the concept of synthetic a priori knowledge and that the human conscience establishes what the mind knows. These two separate ideas go well together being that Kant is developing the existence of empirical knowledge that is known before any experience, which goes handily with the conscience determining what the mind knows. The ideas of Hume and Kant will prove a sound foundation for Kelsen and Hart to build on. The work of H.L.A. Hart was most influenced by the work of David Hume. More often than not, a work of art addresses a specific topic or somewhat revolves around a particular person. Therefore, it is impossible to separate the context of a piece of painting, either historical or cultural, to its intrinsic value or the artwork s meaning. On the other hand, different cultures and time utilized specific conventions that govern the representation of objects of creativity. This essay highlights various pieces of art and their relationship to particular cultural, political, economic, or social settings. Moreover, it pinpoints how different times influence art presentation. One of the pieces of art that shows the relationship between context and art is the Judgement of Hunefer as illustrated in the Book of The Dead (Kleiner, 2016). The Judgement of Hunefer is a painting on a papyrus scroll showing the journey of Hunefer, a royal scribe, and steward of Seti, from his death to the afterlife. The image illustrates several items including spells and prayers needed to secure a happy immortality (Kleiner, 2016). Moreover, the picture shows several steps in transition into the afterlife including Anubis, the jackal headed god of embalmment leading Hunefer into the hall of judgment, Anubis weighing Hunefer s heart against a feather, and finally Hunefer meeting Horus to receive an award of the eternal life (Kleiner, 2016). Contemplative Importance The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1) Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. The Copernican Hypothesis theorised that the stars, planets, including the Earth, revolved around the fixed sun. The space race was eventually resolved in an agreement in 1972. Before this agreement, each sent satellites in attempts to try to out do the other. Satellites eventually turned to manned spacecrafts, which then turned to men on the moon. Now there is the International Space Station, which is a permanently crewed and cooperative laboratory in space. All of this started with a little friendly competition between the USSR and the United States. However, despite the fun space typically is, the government should not spend any more time up in space and should spend its time trying to correct the plummeting economy and other problems here on Earth. Doyle creates a strong case for the adoption of liberal democracies within states because, as he explains, promotes peace between them. He discusses the fact that states who adopt a domestic liberal system hold the same key institutions and these create a pacifist effect among liberal states. Throughout his paper, Doyle addresses a couple main items. The first being the fact that liberal states do not go to war with other liberal states, and the second being the fact that despite remaining peaceable with each other, liberal states have problems with many other non liberal states. Throughout his paper, Doyle discusses the liberalism will bring peace rule as if it is already proven and true despite historical evidence, and can be used to predict an outcome for the future.
