Qualitative Analysis Autism
Children who have pragmatic language impairments often have difficulty with language
comprehension, telling stories and participating in conversations. This typically leads to further
problems fitting in with their peers, making friends and being successful within a classroom. There
has been a lot of research regarding effective treatments for improving social skills for students with
autism. One barrier to drawing conclusions about optimal treatments for children with autism is the
use of highly varied dependent measures in the treatment literature (Cunningham, 2012, p.1). The
study conducted by Cunningham focuses on reviewing previous studies on this topic and addressing
variables important in the development and the measures taken within those studies. The studies used
assessed social interaction skills in young children with autism through a focus on various related
literatures.
This study mainly uses qualitative research methods, however quantitative methods are also used,
such as in standard assessments. This article is concerned with exploring, digging deeper, and
understanding what things mean. Some examples of research ... Show more content on

Most agree that the variety of assessment measures need to be best used in combination with autism
specific assessment tools. When using different assessment measures, one assumption that often
occurs is that every assessment will provide the same results. According to Cunningham (2012), there
have been few systematic efforts to develop specific criteria for the evaluation and selection of
assessment measures for early childhood disorders. When using the rating scales to gather
information, researchers observe both verbal and non verbal students. Approximately 25% of the items
are not scored for nonverbal children and therefore summary scores are biased by non random missing
scores (Cunnigham,

The Importance Of Indigenous People In Australia
The role and place of Indigenous Australians in perceptions of national identity is generally neglected.
Contemporary issues among Indigenous people in Australia include racial discrimination, poor health
and access to health services, levels of employment and education (Hampton Toombs, 2013). The
traumatic diaspora of the Stolen Generations and the negative impacts of racial and economic
disadvantage such as segregation and displacement have contributed to Indigenous peoples feeling of
mistrust (Queensland Health, 2015). According to Kelly (2013), a fundamental challenge faced by
educators today is planning and teaching for a future where the tragedies of the past are overcome for
Indigenous students. This essay views these topics as interrelated and discusses them in reference to
whole school best practice to support teaching Indigenous students.
In Australia, educational policies at the Commonwealth level have had set expectations for the
inclusion of Indigenous themes in school curricula for more than two decades (Kelly, 2013). ACARA
has a stated intention of ensuring that all young Australians will be given the opportunity to gain a
deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures ,
(Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2011), yet Lowe Yunkaporta (n.d.),
describe the Australian Curriculum as privileged content that ignores the realities faced by twenty first
century learners. It fosters a

Pansia Argumentative Essay
Three Changes before the first ever departure of the Sonic Line N043, Pansia was in cleavage. On one
side the fear, the envious hatred, the general awareness of a more than symbolic abandonment and the
sad rationality regarding the possible consequences of the first ever migration of about a quarter of our
species; on the other one preparations, euphoria, the maniacal observation of the quiet space nebulized
in the universe s infinite mirror: the soon to be exile Pansia sitting on the threshold of the planetoid,
looking for itself in the darkness beyond Moon, forgetful even of the shaft displacement that was
going to take place in conjunction with its take off. You would have been no longer able to distinguish

Reflection Paper On Self-Evaluation
Self evaluation builds on a natural tendency to check out the progress of one s own learning and to
improve. Being a foreign medical graduate, and a stay at home mom for the last 17 years, I felt
nervous around my colleagues who are professionals and experts in their fields due to years of
experience that I felt I did not yet have. This paper discusses peer feedback and self assessment based
on multiple negotiation exercises performed by me during the on campus visit of summer, 2017. For
example, I have realized that it is essential to not only know my opponent, but to also know myself.
This opportunity of self reflection has allowed me to recognize beneficial methods of conduct for
various negations occurring under various conditions such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It allowed me to think of a solution that was agreeable to most of my team members and helped us
from getting sued in the Brookside Community Hospital Negotiation exercise. I approach most of my
conversations in this manner with my family at home which helps me in understanding the other
person and my duty and goals that I need to accomplish. Trustworthiness is a good strategy that my
colleagues picked in me and I am proud of it. This is because I am a good listener and my team felt
that their concerns are being heard which allowed them to believe in my proposals. This strategy
helped me in my role as Brook the Chief Legal Counsel, SWE, Sales Manager, and Lennon in
negotiation exercises Fastkin, New Media Web Design and Geben Robotics respectively. My
colleagues have mentioned my ability to look at the whole picture as my strength to which I agree. I
was able to expand the pie rather than divide the pie and get to a yes that changed the win lose game
to a win win scenario where both sides can benefit can benefit more by working on mutual benefits
and try to stay away from false conflicts or illusory effects. I think that zero sum is a negative
perception and it is often possible for people to gain, especially if they collaborate. I often use this
technique at home with my children and spouse. If a negotiation turns to a conflict and becomes
personal, the sense of fair play (or even getting what I need) then goes out of the window. I had a

The And Benefits Of A Behavioral Strategy
1. When comparing two behavioral types in simple terms what determines the relative costs and
benefits of a behavioral strategy (when compared to another option)? The environment determines the
relative costs and benefits of a behavioral strategy.
2. Can the costs and benefits of strategies change over time? Answer YES or NO, and then in simple
terms using no more than 1 sentence explain why or why not. Yes, the costs and benefits of strategies
can change over time, because the environment can change over time.
Using optimality and game theory = can earn up to 4 points
3. Explain optimality theory. Optimality theory is a way of modifying a behavior such that the benefits
are maximized, while the costs are minimized.

Include how changes in the environment might shift the decision. How your voice compares to other
callers, the number of satellites that already exist per caller, and the number of predators around would
all influence Harry s decision to become a satellite or caller. If an environmental shift were to occur in
which the majority of frogs were small and unable to call, it would be beneficial for Harry to become
a caller, as a medium sized frog, because someone has to call in order to attract the females. If a
different shift in environment occurred in which all frogs were large and chose to call, it would be
beneficial for Harry to become a satellite, because there would be very few other satellites with which
Harry would have to compete for females with.
6D. Which of these factors do not involve assessing what other frogs are actually doing? Of the above
factors, Harry s voice does not involve assessing what other frogs are actually doing, because Harry
knows his relative size, and therefore his calling ability.
The comparative method = can earn up to 2 points

the beginning of To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout is terrified of the Radley Place because she is not
brave. She hears someone laughing while she is in the Radley Place after her brother Jem rolled her in

Scout is not very caring or brave. She is not caring because she does not think about others feelings
and how they would feel if she carried out her actions a certain way. For example, the first summer
Dill comes to visit she asks about his father, ... I haven t got one. Is he dead? No. . . Then if he s not

thinking about Dill s feelings and how awkward it feels for him when she asks about his father. After
Dill says no, it is obvious that the conversation is taking a turn in the wrong direction and once Dill
blushes, it is obvious that he is embarrassed. Also, Scout is not very brave at the beginning of the book
because she is scared of something that she has no reason to be scared of. For example, when they

Northern Arizona University Case Study
Founded in 1899, Northern Arizona University s (NAU) first library opened with a dictionary and
encyclopedia in its collection. Located in the central part of the NAU Flagstaff campus, it provides
both physical and virtual environments that foster intellectual discovery, collaborative research, and
access to technology (Library overview, 2016). As with most academic libraries, the research
collections are critical to supporting the curricular and research mission of the university. As of April
2016, members of the NAU community and public have access to more than 670,000 print and e
books, 81,000 e journals, 161,000 online audio and video recordings (J. Swann, personal
communication, April 19, 2016). Successful learning requires inclusive and widespread support along
with relevant resources from the library. Thus, the library offers spaces including group and individual
study rooms; multi media production studios, classrooms, and a makerspace. The library s mission
statement confirms the organization is committed to:
(1) Providing a physical environment for intellectual discovery, collaborative research projects, and
computing, and an equally rich online learning environment that is fully accessible to students, faculty
and staff regardless of location;
(2) Aligning its efforts to institutional and college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Character Analysis Of A Separate Peace
Separating Peace Character By Character
A Separate Peace is a novel based around a group of high school boys in a private college preparatory
school named Devon. Most of Devon s students want, have, and search for peace throughout their
time at school. Upon return from summer break, each character searches for and discovers their own
peace. Each character has found or withheld a certain peace, in real life. Each separate peace is
exposed throughout fatal or cheerful events. The words separate and peace represent a variety of ideas
in Knowles novel, especially for Gene, Phineas, and Leper. I believe author John Knowles chose this
title to imply individuals may possess their own unique peace.

He was always fully at peace there and did not care what the others thought about that. There are so
many people who love to be outside just to be there and admire the scene. I completely relate,
especially during the summer.
During the times that I was spending my time alone I felt completely friendless and without
acquaintances. I eventually became used to it and it was not so bad. When I did end up in a group like
Leper did with Gene, Finny, Chet, and Bobby, I felt better about myself. I also met a new girl in my
grade who was always by herself. I felt bad and began to talk to her. She would not force herself on
anyone and was really quiet and shy and would stay by herself if needs be. She was really excited to
make new friends and we hit it right off. A body can be peaceful, being alone to revel in their own
version of entertainment, but still with a group of pals. This is one specific peace that can fill a person.
There are so many more and a couple of other categories were demonstrated through the writing, each
showing in a different main character.
The title does not necessarily stand just for being happy when alone. It can also be interpreted to being
a peace if being talkative, surrounded by close buddies, having healthy, silly, crazy relationships with
everyone, and doing the possible and anything off the beaten path (such as breaking the rules and
jumping out of a tree). In the text there is one constantly

industry is deeply related to the government sector. As case says, both companies Bombardier and

Until the firm gets the competitiveness position, it needs subsidiary in R D and finance for company
operation. However, after getting the position, the firm relies on the government in its sales
promotion, that is, along with the company growth, the private firm has changed its strategic resource
that the government subsidy is utilized. Finally, once the more than 2 countries governments subsidize
the firms in their countries, that would be an international dispute. WTO function To join WTO is an
international status for smooth trade. Even though WTO judge fairly to solve the dispute, it does not
well function to provide entire solution. The most critical point is that WTO can do nothing to impose
their ruling to the disputed countries even if those countries never agree or accept it. Only thing is that
under ruling the country has a right to make a sanction to another on one on one level. However the
contemporary international organizations have a common problem. WTO only replies on each country
s political decision in the end. WTO should have more effective function to force their ruling to the
country, such as administrative litigation. 4. Segment analysis Aircraft industry has only small
suppliers while the customers are all over the world. As above mentioned the industry requires large
complex cooperate alliances in its hierarchy, only few countries having high tech industry basis are

US Immigration Policy
The Intersection of Immigration Policy and Compassion
US Immigration Policy in modern America is an embarrassment, compounded by many politicians
apathetic and sometimes avaricious stance regarding these human transplants. For example, The
Immigration Act of 1990 requires that those seeking Diversity Immigrant Visas obtain a high school
diploma and have two years work experience, as well as two years job training before applicants can
be considered to receive said Visa. In countries with destitute economies and little access to education
for the masses, what chance do ordinary citizens have of meeting these criteria? These prerequisites
share parallels with Jim Crow Laws of the 20th century such as a literacy tests and poll taxes, which
not only disenfranchised blacks but also poor whites. If we only allow the educated and previously
employed a foot through the door, we are doing a disservice to those not afforded the same
opportunities and stealing from them the possibility of a new life in the land of opportunity. I ... Show

fears of paralleled corruption between the US and Mexican government at the law enforcement and

William Shakespeare s Macbeth
What makes us who we are? Well, this is a broad question, but a lot of different factors impact us on a
way we might not understand until the time is right. The motivation and goals we set for ourselves,
who we surround ourselves with whether we have a choice or not, learning from mistakes and making
our own and how regrets and guilt play a role, and difficult situations that we are born into or get

All of us witnessed how football players during a penalty on important match might miss it
dramatically, even though it does not seem to be a hard task for a sportsman who practiced football
playing for years and it is his profession. This paradoxical situation is called choking under pressure; it
is a description of lower result in performance of motor skill in situations of high pressure than

There are two main approaches to answer this question. First one is distraction theories, which suggest
that choking under pressure in stressing situation is a result of distraction on irrelevant thoughts such
as worries about the situation and outcomes (Beilock Carr, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Comparing Medieval Chants and 20th Century Rap Essay
Comparing Medieval Chants and 20th Century Rap
Medieval chants and Twentieth Century rap are both musical forms that have many similarities and
differences. There are many aspects to these two musical forms.
These aspects include creation, development and history. In both their purpose and audience, chants
and rap can be both similar, but at the same time, completely different.
The way that they are performed and set up, or structured, is where the most evident differences occur.
The Medieval chant, also known as the Gregorian chant, has been credited to
Pope Gregory I. Medieval chants originated around the year 600 A.D. The purpose behind the creation
of chant was to fight the political, and somewhat social, stress ... Show more content on

soon evolve again. Now, suddenly rap became a sure way for blacks, especially young teens, to
express their frustrations, rage and sometimes, even social concerns. No matter who is performing the
chant, it is like most others, unchanging. All the while, rap was becoming harder and harder to pin
point to any certain subject. The subjects became a reflection of the rapper and their surroundings to
the point where even Christians would soon become followers. In the
Medieval Period, there was hardly any division between sacred and secular music. Even though the
chants were known by all the people, there were still not considered the music of the people because
of the lack of division put forth. In this same way, rap and chants are very similar. Both, rap and chant,

Rap, however, had a huge variety of messages. Some very strong and powerful, while others were

The Second Vatican Council and Its Lasting Effects
Kevin Buckley

THE 1000C
Dr. Holland
As time constantly presses forward and the earth continues to revolve, the world will never stop
progressing and adapting to better suit the needs of mankind. The evolution of religion has greatly
enhanced the quality of life for humanity by providing individuals with a strong belief system that is
now the foundation of many peoples core values. One universal religion that has undergone extensive
amounts of reform is Christianity. In particular, the Catholic church is well known for the development
of their famous ecumenical council meetings that help determine the future of the church. Numerous
Councils have been conducted throughout the course of history, but none more significant than the
most recent, the Second Vatican Council or Vatican II. The Catholic church was operating as if it was
still the medieval period and desperately needed to be modernized. As a result, every Roman Catholic
Church official was gathered to meet and devise a plan for how to introduce the church to the modern
world. Consequently, the following will reveal the Second Vatican Council and the ramifications of
the agenda, history and theology evolution, significant texts, and new developments. January 25th
1959, is a day every catholic remembers because it was on that day when Pope John XXIII announced
that he was assembling what was to be the 21st ecumenical council of the Roman

Essay Exxon Oil Spill
Oil spills have often occurred too many times in this world. Unfortunately, when this does happen,
there is always losses of life. Many people are affected by it. There is always a price to pay. On March
24, 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil tanker spilt all its oil into the ocean.
Going about twelve miles per hour, the doubt of a oil spill was highly unlikely. But, when the oil
tanker hit Bligh Reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound, the worst oil spill in United States history
occurred. Consequently, more than eleven million gallons of oil spued into the ocean. In addition,
more than thirteen hundred miles of shoreline was coated with oil. Furthermore, the slick would have

The money was split up in certain ways. First, $213.1 million went towards reimbursements. Second,
$180 million went towards research, monitoring, and restoration. $392 million went to habitat
protection. Third, $108 million went to restoration reserve. Last, $31.1 million went to science
management, public information, and administration. So, who is to blame for the oil spill?
Exxon Valdez skipper Joseph Hazelwood was the ships captain when the oil spill occurred. But, he
blames third mate Greg Cousins, who was on the bridge, failed to turn the tanker away from Bligh
Reef despite orders to do so. Indications show that Hazelwood was intoxicated the night of the spill.
Based on evidence, the skipper had three vodka drinks earlier. He was charged with piloting the tanker
while drunk. He was sentenced to 1,000 hours of community service, was fined $5,000, and was fired.
Has Exxon done anything to prevent another oil spill? The answer is...
Yes, Exxon has done something to prevent another oil spill. In the aftermath of the Exxon Valdez
accident, Exxon redoubled its long time commitment to safeguard the environment, employees, and
operating communities worldwide. To improve the chances of not having another spill happen, Exxon
has modifies its tanker routes. Second, they have instituted drug and alcohol testing programs for
safety sensitive positions. Next,

Banning The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by...
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain might seem like a good book to have
high school students read since it s about a boy named Huckleberry Finn and his adventures through
his life by dealing with the struggles that he has or when he finds a runaway slave, named Jim, who is
on an island trying to stay hidden so he will not be sold as a slave. Throughout the novel the reader
will see that Huck has an adventurous personality, comes to find out who is father is and tries to help
Jim, the runaway slave, to live and hopefully see his family again. Also, there are people out there that
might think Huck Finn may not be a good book to read and think that it should be banned from

Also, it was a liberal word that was used to describe African Americans and Mark Twain was just
using this word as to portray how the Southerners talked and wanted to maintain the reality of the
book. Readers who read Huck Finn may find it hard to read due to the fact that Mark Twain uses the
language of his time period as the language in the book and that involved using profanity and not
showing lots of respect towards either the white Southerners or the black Southerners, that is why
most people reading this will not be able to handle either the profanity or the reality of how people we
treated in the South during the early 1800 s. A second thing that most people who read or have read
this would probably think that this is a controversial book, but in fact it s actually a classic, with real
life events or situations. What some people do not realize is that Huck Finn uses profanity as so does
the real world, but so does music and movies and if their trying to get books banned because it uses
profanity then they should try to get music and movies banned too. Huck Finn is just a young boy
living to survive and helping Jim along the way. He s just living a most people back in the day and
that is real life, there s nothing controversial about that. Also, some people think while reading this
book that Jim was a bad person and was influencing Huck while they were together when in reality

Norwin Meneses Role In The Iran-Contra Scandal
8. Who was Norwin Meneses? What was his role in the Iran Contra Scandal? (Be Specific)
Norwin Meneses was the primary connection to Colombian cocaine in Nicaragua prior to the 1979
Sandinista takeover. He fled with Blandon and other Somoza sympathizers and became instrumental
in the funding of the Contras through CIA sanctioned cocaine sales in America (OIG, 2016). As the
Contra counter revolution began to form, he became the adviser to the military commander of the
Contra forces. He was known drug kingpin of Nicaragua due to his close ties to Colombian drug
cartels and those same connections gave him the access to the quantities of cocaine that would sold in
the United States to fund the Contra s CIA sponsored proxy war to overthrow the Sandinistas.

Role Of Women In Dracula
The Power Struggle in Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s Dracula is a highly controversial novel written in the Victorian Era. The Victorian era
was a time when gender played a very restrictive role in society. Men and women were expected to
follow certain behavior and to stay within the conventions of the time. In Dracula, the reader
encounters the new woman , a woman who does not stay within the bounds of Victorian gender
tradition. The reader also gains insight into the dominate role that men play in the novel and how the
patriarchy impacts society. There are two opinions among critics, one being that the men primarily
dictate the events and characterization in the novel, or the second argument being that women actually
fulfill this role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many critics argue that the men completely dictate the plot and the behavior of most characters in the
novel. The Crew of Light primarily perpetuates the patriarchy and control women. Mitchell R. Lewis
concludes that the male plays the most significant role in dictating the basis of the novel. In his entry
about Dracula he states, The efforts of the male characters to kill Dracula are really efforts to
subordinate female sexuality to the Victorian institution of heterosexual marriage, in which women
primarily play the prescribed roles of wife and mother. It is also an effort to save the embattled
masculinity of the male characters. . The male characters are constantly plotting to uphold the
patriarchy and to force women to act how they want them to, weather they know it or not. The men
must prove their masculinity and dominance over the woman. In another gender criticism, Sos Eltis
takes a similar view. Eltis cites multiple events in the text where masculinity is triumphing over
femininity and prolonging the familiar, traditional gender roles of Victorian society. He talks of the
killing of Lucy saying, The staking of Lucy is described in overtly sexual terms, as a reassertion of
masculine dominance and sexual aggression ... Arthur Holmwood becomes the embodiment of
determined, self controlled, masculinity. (456). Both critics agree that one of the primary problems in

Conflict Between Cultural And Historical Norms
Women, whether in the western world or third world countries, are socialised in patriarchal societies
where misogyny is often internalised. As a result women often make choices, which reflect their
subordinate status to keep to the norm and stabilise themselves economically and socially. Women in
countries in sub Saharan Africa, South and East Asian areas, though in differing contexts face similar
struggles of subservience and manipulation. Women accommodate, resist or adapt to the sexist
oppressive system. Those who choose to bargain with the social constructs aim to enhance their
situation, giving them more power and to some extent freedom from ideological societies that
subjugate them.
Deniz Kandiyoti, s bargaining with patriarchy offers a complex but seemingly pertinent argument in
regards to the dichotomy between society and gender specific roles. Regarding their practices as fluid
and negotiable, where societies are the product of imposition that struggle between cultural and
historical norms. Within these systems of negotiation, Kandiyoti s juxtaposes agricultural labor and
classic patriarchy. Within Sub Saharan Africa gender relations tend to favor that of males, receiving
both credit and economic stability, however it is not just the men who contribute to the economy but
that of women. Patriarchal bargaining in Africa has resulted in women s resistance to men s absolutist
power over the access and value of their work. Kandiyoti sates women have very little

Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis
The zeitgeist of 20th century Iran was nationalism. From the establishment of a constitutional
monarchy to the ongoing struggle against foreign invaders, it has been a tool utilized by ideologues to
further their own agendas. In Persepolis, a young Marjane Satrapi asserts the metaphorical truism, The
revolution is like a bicycle. When the wheels don t turn, it falls. Each revolutionary was able to gain
momentum by pedaling away from imperialist exploitation and domineering but then sought to pedal
the wheels towards the direction where their respective interests lie, and in turn immobilized the
bicycle, causing it to fall. Just as nationalism can be used to overthrow a dictator, it can also be used to

The Anglo Persian Agreement followed in 1919, whereby the British gained control of the country s

something about the state of the country and how it fueled/surged nationalist resistance] As Marjane s
father tells her, it was Reza Khan who, with the assistance of the British, overthrew the corrupt Qajar
dynasty and was appointed shah (king). Propelled by the gust of nationalism that had emerged in
response to foreign takeover and domestic tumult, Reza worked to curtail outside influence, reform
and modernize the country. Nevertheless, he ruled with an iron fist that ultimately led to his downfall,
coming to be severely detested by the populace, succumbing to fascist sympathies during WII, and
being forced to abdicate in 1941. Though his son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Shah) inherited the
throne, Reza s real successor was Mohammad Mossadegh, a statesman of tremendous passion who
would come to represent Third World nationalism and go down as one of the most popular figures in
Iranian history. Two central beliefs shaped Mossadegh s political consciousness. The first was a
passionate faith in the rule of law, which made him an enemy of autocracy and, in particular, Reza
Shah. The second was a conviction that Iranians must rule themselves and not submit to the will of
foreigners. (Kinzer 53) It was in 1949 that Mossadegh, a vocal member of the majlis, formed and
became leader of the National Front, an umbrella organization dedicated to fortifying democracy and
limiting foreign influence. In a span of two years, the National Front became the governing coalition
and Mossadegh was elected prime minister by an overwhelming majority vote. The nationalization of

Pros And Cons Of Space Travel
Evidence of liquid water is found on Mars, which if it weren t for NASA this would not have been
known. So what will be learned from private companies? Space travel should not be privatized
because they wasted the government s money and failed NASA, they are only taking cargo, and if
they succeed, they will have more control over space travel than NASA and the government. Making
something private basically means that it will go from being owned by the government to a private
company. NASA has already become partially private, they launched two shuttles from other
companies with the help of NASA.

If NASA becomes private then that means that companies could have more knowledge than the
government since they do give more money to NASA. If they turn private they would think only about
the flight, for example taking cargo, not about actual research. The idea is that getting astronauts into
orbit, which NASA has been doing for 49 years, is getting to be so old hat that someone other than the
government can do it. (Borenstein par.2) The companies may think that it is simple. If others are
allowed to take astronauts, it is not positive that they know what can happen.
Final thoughts
Space privatization can be helpful in some ways, for example it could give jobs to some people but
according to Borenstein, ..former NASA officials worried about safety and from congressional leaders
worried about lost jobs (par.3). NASA will just be another customer to companies, for example, when
NASA had to pay Russia. This topic is important because, it will determine what our future
generations will know about space. This mean that in the future, if the become private it could only
turn about flight, and the research will not be important

Alternative to Incarceration Essay
December 5, 2001
Alternatives to incarceration
Ever since the first prison opened in the United States in 1790, incarceration has been the center of the
nation s criminal justice system. Over this 200 year period many creative alternatives to incarceration
have been tried, and many at a much lower cost than imprisonment. It wasn t until the late 1980 s
when our criminal justice systems across the country began experiencing a problem with
overcrowding of facilities. This problem forced lawmakers to develop new options for sentencing
criminal offenders. Unlike jail or prisons, which create an expensive cycle of violence and crime,
these alternatives actually prevent violence and strengthen communities.

Another commonly used alternative is house arrest and confinement. This sanction restricts an
individual to his or her residence for specific periods of time; in most house arrest programs offenders
are allowed to leave their homes only for employment, medical needs, or mandated assignments such
as community service or school. The emphasis of this program is on confinement, and the supervising
officers role is to ensure that the offender stays confined at home. There are three different levels of
home confinement, each with a different degree of restricted freedom. The first is curfew which
requires offenders to be in their residence during limited, specific hours, generally at night. The
offender s movements outside of the curfew hours are unregulated. The second is home detention that
requires offenders to remain at home at all times except for employment, education, treatment, or
other pre approved activities. This program may be with the assisted with electronic monitoring. The
last level is home incarceration. This program requires offenders to remain at home at all times, with
very limited exceptions for religious or medical purposes. At a minimum, offenders are subject to
random contacts across all hours covered by the condition in order to verify compliance.
Electronic monitoring is another widely used form of surveillance in which an electronic device is

Using Scientific Inquiry Model in High School Biology
Rationale
In classrooms today, educators are constantly seeking and implementing engaging lessons that will
increase student knowledge and skills. The intent of the activities is to help students become
independent learners and use process thinking skills. Students seem to learn best by actually directing
their own learning and doing, rather than being led from step to step by the teacher. In science, it is
especially important that students learn by inquiry and use more of a hands on approach to learning
scientific concepts. According to Wilke and Straits (2005), inquiry based learning is where students
explore a problem using the processes and tools of the discipline. It is often shown in a way that

Philosophy of Teaching
In society today, the world continues its expansion in diversity; therefore, teachers must accommodate
to fulfill the new developments of education. This diversity includes expanding educational
philosophies that truly benefit the future leaders of tomorrow. My personal educational philosophy is
one that comes from experiences as well as what I would like to see in my career as a teacher.
My belief as to the purpose of education includes many different aspects. The first is that schools
should promote students to be more independent, while encouraging one to also interact with society.
In my opinion, students are encouraged to be themselves and pursue their own individual interest
while still respecting the natural and understood laws of society. Next, a teacher should encourage
students to use various thinking methods compared to a simple means of problem solving by direct
instruction. Alberts (2008) states, What I mean by teaching science as inquiry is, at a minimum
allowing students to conceptualize a problem that was solved by a scientific discovery, and then
forcing them to wrestle with possible answers to the problem before they are told the answer. This
statement suggests that students are required to think

The Chalcedon Dichotomy
Introduction
The doctrine of Christology has been an issue for the church since we have received the blessings of
Christ and his atoning work of the cross. The issue of Jesus and his identity was one that Jesus dealt
with in his own ministry. It must not be surprising to us that there are still questions in understanding
the identity and reality of Jesus in his humanity and his simultaneous divinity. In the early church, the
attempt to explain this dichotomy or duality was often diluted by human attempts to speak logically on
the matter. Human logic will not be able to understand the mysteries of God (Isaiah 55:11). However,
we are none the less left with the matter of identifying and defending who Jesus is before the world.
Many false doctrines have been conceived which attempt to explain this truth but fall far short of

When it met in 451, the Council of Chalcedon first confirmed four texts: the Nicene Creed in its fuller
form from Constantinople I, Cyril of Alexandria s second letter to Nestorius, Cyril s letter to John of

generations and established for the church a way to defend the Christology of the gospel. The issues
exposed by this doctrinal statement are extremely profound because it deals with humanity s ability to
either become, or be like God in any way. Some believed that since Christ was able to achieve God
likeness in spite of his humanness, then the prospect of others achieving similar godliness could be
possible. The Formula of Chalcedon responds to the mysticism and pietism that is so prevalent in the
modern church. The Incarnation of Christ is essential to Christianity and must be upheld as it is a

Questions On History And Beliefs
Midterm Lesson Plan #4
Reading:
History and Beliefs:
This religion dates back to more than 2500 year ago. The most recent spiritual leader was Mahavira.
He has been given the title victor because of his ability to conquer ignorance as well as achieve the
luminous perfect soul (Pluralism Project p2) He then embarked on a preaching through all of India
talking about the truth he had realized. He attracted people from all walks of life, whom he taught
about the presence of soul in all beings and that karma is what ultimately binds us in the circle of
suffering and that nonviolence towards all living things (ahimsa) would be the way to overcome this
cycle.
At the core of beliefs and conduct for Jains lie the five great vows:

Clad or Digambar monks divest themselves of clothing. They also hold that women need to be reborn a

use to sweep away any living animal before they walk or sit and a water pot. The other branch is the
Svetambar who believe in the idea that women can obtain enlightenment because of Tirthankara Malli
who was a woman, and wear white clothes. They are allowed more possessions including the clothes.
Puja in front of images is also allowed.
Ethics:
As well as the three jewels which constitute right faith, right knowledge and right conduct. In order to
comply with this in an individual s life the Jains live with the ideals of non violence so they are
vegetarian, they recognize that speech can cause great harm and even violence, they honor a
commitment to justice between the rich and the poor, being faithful in marriage for the laity and
chastity for the monastic, lastly balancing the needs to possess things for the laity so as not to replace
spiritual love with the love of possessions. Ethical considerations abound for the Jain as to
employment, education, and public policy.
Education: will need to be considered for students in a traditional American schooling in order to

Narcissistic Stereotypes
The youngest generation obsesses over gaining approval in a way unprecedented by the past. This
obsession stems from the increase of narcissistic attitudes found in children, including overconfidence,
a deep need for admiration, and a lack of empathy (Mayo Clinic Staff). The skyrocketing growth of
social networking and the increase in the prevalence of superficial celebrities shown in the media only
enhances narcissistic behaviors. However, these attitudes are initially caused by the actions of parents.
An occurring shift in parenting styles centers around rewarding kids even when the child s amount of
effort does not warrant praise. This type of award system fosters narcissistic attitudes that affect how

The biggest influence of personality are childhood experiences and the way in which parents choose to
raise their kids. The shift in parenting styles contributes to the growing levels of narcissistic attitudes
presented in the youngest generation. Because of the shift in values, the media evolved to highlight
vain celebrities instead of focusing on the successes of brilliant, hard working people. Social media
takes away the emotional involvement in relationships and replaces those feelings with shallow
gratification that causes people to grow an unhealthy attachment to the social network. Nothing can

Rhetorical Analysis Of Franklin Roosevelt s Speech
A president who led the United States out of the great depression into a new world and then through a
terrorist attack to be know to have given the most memorable speech of the United States history is
named Franklin Roosevelt. On December 7th, 1941,Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan and the
following day Roosevelt stood in front of the United States suggesting to declare war on Japan for
their actions. Within Roosevelt s speech he uses the audience s emotion to bring them together against
Japan with anger but also with hope. Then Roosevelt goes into the facts that are leading the country
into danger to try and get congress to declare war; Roosevelt s use of logos becomes a model for other
speeches, like Bush s speech after 9/11. Finally, Roosevelt is determined to show how unethical Japan
was during the attack and how declaring war is truly moral to protect the country. Roosevelt s
infamous speech strives to bring the nation into unity to declare war on Japan through emotion, reason
and virtues. Franklin Roosevelt uses his authoritative credentials, somber tone and selective word
choice to direct his audience into an emotional response toward his speech. He first gets his audiences
attention with addressing the higher powers and then discussing the day that will live in infamy
(Roosevelt). Roosevelt wants the emotional response of congress and the American people to begin to
rally in unity toward a war effort against Japan; he started to obtain unity and emotion of the

Essay on The Corruption of the American Dream in The Great...
On April 10, 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, a novel that would later become
one of the best known pieces of classic literature in history. However, at the time of its publication,
Gatsby was fairly unpopular ad the reviews were never consistent. As shocking as it may seem, I
believe it is because Fitzgerald s intelligence and creativity levels were way ahead of his time, which
is evident when one pays close attention to the themes of the novel. Forgiveness, love, and memory of
the past are just a few themes you will come across in this story. Aside from these, there is one other
theme that is much more dominant and could possibly have been the cause of The Great Gatsby s
slight lack of initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you were, or are, one of those who feel this way you believe that if one does not own the fanciest
clothes, the fastest cars, or the most extravagant house then they simply are not living the American
dream. This materialistic aspect completely disregards happiness, family, and moral values. It is also
the aspect that Fitzgerald seems to focus on the most with The Great Gatsby. In the novel, the main
character, Jay Gatsby is most definitely living the American dream in the sense of materialism. He was
never seen wearing less than the best of suits, and even seeing his shirts drove his love interest, Daisy
to tears. They re such beautiful shirts...I ve never seen such beautiful shirts (Fitzgerald, p. 98). His
mansion was described as looking like the World s fair when he was throwing one of his thrilling
parties. Although the only information Fitzgerald gives us about Gatsby s car is that it was a Rolls
Royce (pg. 35), that is enough to tell us he was not lacking in the fastest cars area. As for the
fundamentally based ideas of the American dream, Jay Gatsby has only a few of them covered. He is
certainly wealthy and prosperous. And if the fact that he can host a party, have the entire town attend,
and repeat every weekend without ever showing his face does not scream high social status , I don t
know what does! The part of this fundamental aspect that Mr. Gatsby is lacking is a family and
happiness.

Online vs. Traditional Education
Online vs. Traditional Education Have you ever had the opportunity to take online classes? Have you
even heard of online classes? If you haven t, you are missing out on a great opportunity. Online
education is rapidly becoming a popular alternative to traditional education. It is offering more
flexibility for students and providing individuals with better opportunities for postsecondary
education. Even though traditional education has been the only form of education for hundreds of
years, online education offers a new and improved style of learning. When people think of education,
they think of a classroom filled with desks, paper, books, and other students. After all, this is how
humans have been taught for generations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In traditional education, everything is face to face. The students interact with the teacher directly and
the discussion occurs only in the classroom. This face to face interaction allows the students to build
social skills and form relationships with other classmates. The only downfall there is with this method
is that once the class is over, it can be difficult to contact the instructor if a question or problem would
arise. In online education, communication is much different. Students can be thousands of miles apart
and live in different time zones. Therefore there cannot be any face to face interaction. Instead, online
education relies on instant messaging through a forum. It is very similar to a chat room. This is where
the majority of the communication takes place. Students can communicate with the instructor and with
each other by posting messages and waiting for a reply. This makes it very easy to get a hold of other
people, no matter the time of day. The downfall with this method is that sometimes it can take a while
before you receive a reply. However, online courses require a certain amount of participation so the
question will be addressed before too long. Many people question the amount of work that online
students do. Some even say that online colleges should not be as credible as traditional universities.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. Online education shares many of

Thornton Wilder
Throughout the play, Thornton Wilder seems to suggest that everyday events make up a special and
beautiful life. The author includes multiple different scenes to represent the simplicity of life. As the
Stage Manager describes the death of Joe Crowell, the bright student headed to be engineer, he implies
the idea that one should acknowledge the small yet great things in life before it s too late. The author
also includes the death of Emily which questions how much humans understand of life. This event lets
readers take in the beautiful moments in their lives and recognize the small things that make them
happy. Wilder includes the small moment of Emily finding joy in the simple and natural things like
Mrs. Gibbs heliotrope and the moonlight. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emily finds joy in the small things like how the moonlight s so won derful and so is the smell of
Mrs.Gibbs heliotrope (45). Emily appreciates the little things in life like the beautiful moonlight and
smell of the heliotrope. Wilder portrays this to explain the idea of enjoying the simple things can make
life so much more special. Emily is chatting with her father and enjoys this time to comment on the
simple things of nature. This relates to life now since there are many things that we do everyday that
are simply beautiful. Since they are young, the children don t realize the mundane action of going to
school makes up their special lives. The children meet, down center and head towards Main Street,
then turn left (16) to go to school. The children are going about their everyday lives but don t seem to
realize that simple actions like this can make life so beautiful and something to celebrate about. Wilder
shows this common theme by having the two families go through everyday life, placing emphasis on
the simple actions like

Trust agreements are extremely useful tools in the estate planning process. As part of a comprehensive
estate plan, trust agreements can protect your assets, provide for your family, and provide for your
care if you should become incapacitated.
However, trust agreements are also complex documents that must be drafted carefully in order to meet
your goals and comply with state and federal requirements for trust agreements. An experienced
Jacksonville trust attorney can explain in detail the pros and cons of each type of trust agreement and
help you decide the type of trust agreement that best meets your needs and goals.

Once you place your assets into the trust, they must be administered according to the terms of the
trust. Therefore, you must be very careful when choosing an irrevocable trust and drafting an
irrevocable trust. An experienced trust attorney can explain in further detail the benefits of this type of
trust agreement and why it may be the best choice for you. In some cases, an irrevocable trust can be a
valuable tool in Medicaid/nursing home planning.
Retirement Trust
This is a specialized type of trust agreement that a trust attorney may recommend to protect your
Individual Retirement Account from creditors. You can use a retirement trust to protect your IRA for
the benefit of your beneficiaries. Because this is a specialized type of trust agreement, you want to
consult a trust attorney before choosing this type of trust as part of your estate planning strategy.
Special Needs Trust
Special needs trusts are another type of specialized trusts that must be drafted very carefully to ensure
the trust agreement meets all of the requirements for a special needs trust. The trust is designed to
provide for the care of a disabled or special needs person and can also be used to hold assets so that
the person will qualify for public benefits. The funds from a special needs trust is not distributed to the
beneficiary directly but the funds are used to provide for the needs and care for the

Nor Easter Crisis Case Study
In October 2011 a Nor easter storm hit Connecticut, leaving a majority of its residents without power
for weeks. The residents were alarmed by the Nor easter storm, which reported to cause the largest
number of power outages in the history of the state. Power to the People: Connecticut Light and
Power (CL P) was the major organization responsible to provide power services to the regions affected
by the storm. The October 2011 Nor easter crises were, in fact, a natural disaster that could not have
been prevented, yet CL P had eventually become the scapegoat for the damage endured by the state of
Connecticut. A company s communication strategies during a time of crises play a vital role in
maintaining its reputation. Failing to communicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second most important priority should have been to protect and maintain its reputation, which in
this case, CL P had clearly failed. Although CL P took reasonable action in the time of crises, the
company s poor communication strategies following the Nor easter crises had influenced stakeholders
to perceive the CL P to be inefficient and unreliable. CL P and its company spokesperson, CEO and
President, Jeffrey Butler received heavy criticism for his inability to communicate to stakeholders
about the damage assessment and restoration

Obesity In Australia
1. Introduction
The mission of Obesity Australia is to make changes in the public awareness of obesity, its occurrence
and its treatment. Currently in Australia about 63% of the adult population is overweight or obese,
with 28% obese. Public view on obesity is merely a personal issue must change if as a community we
are to address the growing medical and social costs, and the often hidden productivity losses. The key
of changing the public perceptions are the media and medical specialists, in particular general

Death Penalty Pros And Cons
Opposing the Death Penalty When discussing the death penalty and its pros and cons, this subject can
quickly become very controversial. Can one really believe that an individual can commit a crime so
wicked that they should be put to death by another individual? The death penalty or capital
punishment is defined as a government sanctioned practice where a person is sentenced to death by
the state as a punishment for a crime. I oppose the death penalty, it should be put to an end and
terminated because the actual applications for the death penalty is random and capricious, the death
penalty violates the eighteenth amendment of the United States constitution, and even the guilty
should have the right to life.
The Death Penalty and Similar Crimes
To begin with, the death penalty should be terminated because the actual applications for the death
penalty is random, and capricious. In other words, the death penalty system here in the United States
is applied in an unfair manner. According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the death
penalty system is an unjust method against people because it is largely dependent on how much
income and money the individual has, the intellectual skills of their attorneys, the victim s race and or
ethnicity and exactly where the crime took place. It is proven that people of color is executed more
compared to white people, more so if the victim is white. Innocent people are often executed by the
state. Over one hundred and fifty six

  • 2. Qualitative Analysis Autism Children who have pragmatic language impairments often have difficulty with language comprehension, telling stories and participating in conversations. This typically leads to further problems fitting in with their peers, making friends and being successful within a classroom. There has been a lot of research regarding effective treatments for improving social skills for students with autism. One barrier to drawing conclusions about optimal treatments for children with autism is the use of highly varied dependent measures in the treatment literature (Cunningham, 2012, p.1). The study conducted by Cunningham focuses on reviewing previous studies on this topic and addressing variables important in the development and the measures taken within those studies. The studies used assessed social interaction skills in young children with autism through a focus on various related literatures. This study mainly uses qualitative research methods, however quantitative methods are also used, such as in standard assessments. • 3. The Importance Of Indigenous People In Australia The role and place of Indigenous Australians in perceptions of national identity is generally neglected. Contemporary issues among Indigenous people in Australia include racial discrimination, poor health and access to health services, levels of employment and education (Hampton Toombs, 2013). The traumatic diaspora of the Stolen Generations and the negative impacts of racial and economic disadvantage such as segregation and displacement have contributed to Indigenous peoples feeling of mistrust (Queensland Health, 2015). According to Kelly (2013), a fundamental challenge faced by educators today is planning and teaching for a future where the tragedies of the past are overcome for Indigenous students. This essay views these topics as interrelated and discusses them in reference to whole school best practice to support teaching Indigenous students. In Australia, educational policies at the Commonwealth level have had set expectations for the inclusion of Indigenous themes in school curricula for more than two decades (Kelly, 2013). ACARA has a stated intention of ensuring that all young Australians will be given the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures , (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2011), yet Lowe Yunkaporta (n.d.), describe the Australian Curriculum as privileged content that ignores the realities faced by twenty first century learners. Most of Devon s students want, have, and search for peace throughout their time at school. Upon return from summer break, each character searches for and discovers their own peace. Each character has found or withheld a certain peace, in real life. Each separate peace is exposed throughout fatal or cheerful events. I eventually became used to it and it was not so bad. When I did end up in a group like Leper did with Gene, Finny, Chet, and Bobby, I felt better about myself. I also met a new girl in my grade who was always by herself. I felt bad and began to talk to her. In Dracula, the reader encounters the new woman , a woman who does not stay within the bounds of Victorian gender tradition. It is also an effort to save the embattled masculinity of the male characters. . The male characters are constantly plotting to uphold the patriarchy and to force women to act how they want them to, weather they know it or not. The men must prove their masculinity and dominance over the woman. In another gender criticism, Sos Eltis takes a similar view. As shocking as it may seem, I believe it is because Fitzgerald s intelligence and creativity levels were way ahead of his time, which is evident when one pays close attention to the themes of the novel. Forgiveness, love, and memory of the past are just a few themes you will come across in this story. Aside from these, there is one other theme that is much more dominant and could possibly have been the cause of The Great Gatsby s slight lack of initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were, or are, one of those who feel this way you believe that if one does not own the fanciest clothes, the fastest cars, or the most extravagant house then they simply are not living the American dream. This materialistic aspect completely disregards happiness, family, and moral values. It is also the aspect that Fitzgerald seems to focus on the most with The Great Gatsby. In the novel, the main character, Jay Gatsby is most definitely living the American dream in the sense of materialism. He was never seen wearing less than the best of suits, and even seeing his shirts drove his love interest, Daisy to tears. They re such beautiful shirts...I ve never seen such beautiful shirts (Fitzgerald, p. 98). His mansion was described as looking like the World s fair when he was throwing one of his thrilling parties. Although the only information Fitzgerald gives us about Gatsby s car is that it was a Rolls Royce (pg. 35), that is enough to tell us he was not lacking in the fastest cars area. As for the fundamentally based ideas of the American dream, Jay Gatsby has only a few of them covered. He is certainly wealthy and prosperous. And if the fact that he can host a party, have the entire town attend, and repeat every weekend without ever showing his face does not scream high social status , I don t know what does! The part of this fundamental aspect that Mr. Gatsby is lacking is a family and happiness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you haven t, you are missing out on a great opportunity. Online education is rapidly becoming a popular alternative to traditional education. It is offering more flexibility for students and providing individuals with better opportunities for postsecondary education. Even though traditional education has been the only form of education for hundreds of years, online education offers a new and improved style of learning. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In traditional education, everything is face to face. The students interact with the teacher directly and the discussion occurs only in the classroom. This face to face interaction allows the students to build social skills and form relationships with other classmates. The only downfall there is with this method is that once the class is over, it can be difficult to contact the instructor if a question or problem would arise. In online education, communication is much different. Students can be thousands of miles apart and live in different time zones. Therefore there cannot be any face to face interaction. Instead, online education relies on instant messaging through a forum. It is very similar to a chat room. This is where the majority of the communication takes place. Students can communicate with the instructor and with each other by posting messages and waiting for a reply. This makes it very easy to get a hold of other people, no matter the time of day. The downfall with this method is that sometimes it can take a while before you receive a reply. However, online courses require a certain amount of participation so the question will be addressed before too long. Many people question the amount of work that online students do. Some even say that online colleges should not be as credible as traditional universities. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Online education shares many of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Death Penalty Pros And Cons Opposing the Death Penalty When discussing the death penalty and its pros and cons, this subject can quickly become very controversial. Can one really believe that an individual can commit a crime so wicked that they should be put to death by another individual? The death penalty or capital punishment is defined as a government sanctioned practice where a person is sentenced to death by the state as a punishment for a crime. I oppose the death penalty, it should be put to an end and terminated because the actual applications for the death penalty is random and capricious, the death penalty violates the eighteenth amendment of the United States constitution, and even the guilty should have the right to life.
