The Medical Ethics Of Human Experimentation
When one researches about the medical ethics in human experimentation, it is difficult to disregard the
harsh realities of it. As Leonard Nimoy stated in his role as Spock in the movie, Star Trek II: The
Wrath of Khan, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few . This is the cruel truth that be
seen everywhere, but many people tend to ignore it since it is such a dreary thought. Many people,
especially those in third world countries, are exploited every day. Large corporate companies come to
typically poorer foreign nations, where there is a large gap between the rich and poor, to find cheaper
workers. Many people in these foreigners tend to be desperate for money and immediately sign up for
these jobs. Typical corporations would hire these people and make them work in inhumane working
conditions such as long hours, less pay, and give no sanitation facilities. Although this happens on an
everyday basis, there are very few people out there who challenge the large corporations. This
example can also apply to medical ethics, sometimes a small amount of people have to suffer through
experiments to help the general public. Although this is a morbid thought, it has been used in the past.
During the mid twentieth century, many American scientist believe that experimenting on a few
people and making them suffer would create results that would be very beneficial to the general
public. Today, most modern developed countries don t believe in this ideology, but there are

LOWER EXTREMITY MIRROR THEARPY IN STROKE PATIENTS WITH NEGLECT
Alli McCarthy
PT 640 Research Proposal
Spring Semester 2015
Research Question: Can mirror therapy performed on the upper and lower extremity of stroke patients
improve unilateral visual neglect more than mirror therapy exclusively performed on the upper
extremity?
Abstract
Background and Purpose. Stroke patients with visual neglect can be treated with mirror therapy to
improve neglect and function. Previous studies have shown improvement of neglect and function in
stroke patients who are given mirror therapy on the upper extremity only. This research will exam
whether mirror therapy of both the upper and lower extremity can show greater improvement than if
mirror therapy is performed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pilot study will be performed since no current research looking at the effect of mirror therapy
performed on stroke patients with neglect with primary outcome measures of SCT and LBT have
provided exact values of means with standard deviations between the groups. An effect size of .50 will
be used based on the study performed by Pandian et al. which looked at the effect of mirror therapy
performed on stroke patients with neglect and used similar primary outcome measures as this study
(Pandian) Therefore, with an effect size of .5, a sample size of 64 participants in each group will be
needed. However, it is necessary to account for a predicted attrition rate when recruiting participants.
Based on the 12% attrition rate seen in the study performed by Pandian et al., this study will start with
an additional 8 participants per group with the hope of maintaining 80% power and reducing the risk
of a type II error. (Pandian) Therefore, this study will begin with 72 participants in each group. An
intention to treat analysis will be performed in order to account for subjects who drop out of the study.
A Bonferroni adjustment will be made in order to maintain an overall α2 = 0.05 to protect against type

The Continental Army Of General Washington
The Continental Army, under the command of General Washington, had followed the British forces to
an area located in Freehold, NJ. General Washington s use of IPB played out on multiple fronts during
the pre battle phase. In one aspect, General Washington directed forces under the command of Major
General Charles Lee to harass the British rear guard. This started June 18, 1778, as the British forces
exited Philadelphia with 12,000 personnel and 12 mile baggage train (Stryker, 1927). The baggage
train consisted of personnel goods, minimal resupplies, and basic food items. General Washington also
had troops add to the challenges of the movement by mudding wells, destroying bridges and
constructing blockades on roads. Unbeknownst to General Clinton, General Washington had sent an
advance unit to direct the New Jersey Militia. Generals William Maxwell and Philemon Dickerson,
ordered the NJ Militia to destroy nearly every bridge along known routes (Mitnick, 2005). This caused
General Clinton to either repair the bridges or wade across shallow rivers crosses leading to the further
exhaustion his men and beasts of burden. This also directed the British troops to move towards the
Monmouth courthouse. The Continentals prediction of routes through IPB allowed for continuous
harassment of the British troops while at a safe distance. General Clinton used the date of June 27th,
to rest his men and reconnoiter the areas by scouts. He used his scouts to determine possible

Essay On Operation Enduring Freedom
On September 10th 2001 a cold front swept through the East Coast with rain and thunderstorms that
would leave behind a cool clear morning on September 11, 2001. That morning started as normally as
any other Tuesday of the year. The sun shined and the birds were singing. Children headed for school,
as adults set out for work. There was no foreshadowing or any warning of what was to come. The
morning routine of a bustling New York City was well into a rhythm, when the world that Americans
knew, was brought to its knees, and would forever be changed.
At 8:45 a.m., Eastern Time, out of the sky hurdled, toward Manhattan, an airplane. The American
Airlines flight 11 was a Boeing 767 airliner that was flying uncharacteristically low. At 8:46 a.m., the

Operation Enduring Freedom started on October 20th 2001, Operation Enduring Freedom was part of
a larger conflict that would become known as the Global War on Terrorism. It was the response to the
attack on 9/11; it came swiftly and was very harsh in nature. In total 2,380 American troops would
lose their lives to the conflict. The objective of the war was to free the regions of focus from the grips
of extremist ideology and rule. Operation Enduring Freedom was gateway to another Middle East
conflict that would begin to liberate a people from the oppressive rule of a sadistic dictator. Operation
Iraqi Freedom was started in order to liberate the Iraqi people from the rule of Saddam Hussein and
also to remove possible weapons of mass destruction from the unstable control of said ruler. The
conflict, which claimed the lives of 4,491 American troops, began on March 20th 2003 and ended on

Comparing The Alinsky Tradition And Friedman Approaches,...
In the article Contrasting Organization Approaching The Alinsky Tradition and Friedman Approaches,
Marty Martinson and Celena Sue discuss several ways in which Alinsky dealt with situations which he
thought could benefit the parties that were oppressed. He believed power lies with the people and
forming of organizations was one of the ways that a society or community would receive positive
results. The main premise of the organizations was to select a leader who could be seen as an outsider
with a passion to motivate members of that community to plead their cause with the aim of winning.
One example in which Alinsky s approach was successful was during the 1930s in Chicago. The
Armour s Company, which is one of the meat parkers company was treating their employees in a very
distasteful manner. For example, the company could cut their wages three times during the year
without any consultation with the employees and they had no security as well. This was considered a
huge problem since the employees could not do anything about because they had no union
representation. To address this problem, with the help of Alinksy Backyard neighborhood council was
formed; it was a coalition of the churches, unions and approximately one hundred small businesses.
This coalition held a massive rally to address the problems that these employees faced at the
workplace and the need to get them into a union. This coalition organized a massive rally to address
the plight of these employees

high level mathematics and science in my free time rather than the person who would play video
games such as League of Legends or text and socialize in their free time. Time to me is very valuable
and I enjoy spending this time learning and spending it wisely while having bits of fun. As myself, I

Essay about Compact Flourescent Lamp and the Environment
Compact Flourescent Lamp and the Environment
Abstract
Technological advances have come a long way since the incandescent light bulb. Today, the compact
fluorescent lamp (CFL) is the most energy efficient light bulb on the market. In the beginning,
consumers had resistance toward the CFL. With governmental support in establishing energy efficient
lighting programs, the CFL have been able to stay in the market and improve throughout the years.
Introduction
With the advances in technology today, we are able to produce a variety of energy efficient products,
one of which is the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). Having come a long way from the energy
absorbing incandescents, CFL is clearly the choice for the future. CFLs ... Show more content on

(Rigdon and Wadman, 1992). One must wonder why this new and improved technology is left in the
dark and why the resistance to the CFL?
Historical Significance
The incandescent light bulbs dates back to Thomas Edison s 1879 design which was a marvelous
invention for the 19th Century. The incandescent light bulb heats a filament by electric resistance
inside a sealed glass globe and makes the thin tungsten wire glow white hot (Luoma, 1991). The
incandescent blub is very inefficient because only 10% of the electricity flowing into the filament
becomes light and the remaining nine tenths is lost at heat (Luoma, 1991). A standard blub is hot to the
touch because it expends more than 90% of the electrical energy keeping its tungsten filament hot
enough to glow (Roodman, 1993).
A more advanced alternative to the standard incandescent light bulb is the CFL. Fluorescent tubes,
developed in the 1930 s, utilize a chemical physical process involving the ionization of argon gas
(Luoma, 1991). The fluorescent bulbs use one fifth to one third as much electricity to deliver the same
number of lumens as conventional incandescent light bulbs (Petrowski, 1995). However, fluorescent s
adaptability to everyday household lamps have been hampered by the bulkiness of its long tubes and
by problems with flickering and unpleasant light. With

Different Definitions Of Being Creative
Option B Many people have activities that are significant to them that certain activity can be described
as being a special part of them, for me it would be being creative. The definition of being creative in
the dictionary is relating to or involving the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production
of artistic work. Though, there are many different definitions of being creative in the world. What I
will show the reader is what being creative means to me and why it s significant. Now there are
reasons for why this is significant to me, one gets to be imaginative, artistic, and they get to travel, but
there is more to it than that. First, in being creative for me splits into different things I get to do while
being creative and that the first thing would be being imaginative. Imaginative means to have a big
imagination thus thinking of new ideas or things and thinking of possibilities in my mind that don t
seem real. Seeing images of what I want to do then converting them to dreams or goals I have. Ever
since I can remember I have been imaginative also thinking always picturing it s been carved into my
brain and memory. The first time I started to figure out that I wanted to always be creative was when
my mom announced we would be going to Florida. That s when my imaginative mind came to a place
and started imagining what it would be like what I would be able to do there. Would I have fun what
would happen when I get there because we were going to Florida

The First Advantage Of Cloud Computing
Body
Variety of Cloud Models
The first advantage of cloud computing is the variety of cloud models. There are three types of
deployment models used in the everyday; they are the following: public, hybrid, and private. Public
cloud is accessed by anyone on the internet through web applications and services. The hybrid cloud
contains many inside and outside developers used by many businesses. Lastly, the private cloud is
services only offered on a private network where no one outside the network can access. This model is
safer because the cloud is not open to data breaches (compared to a public cloud).
Cloud computing also offers three kind of services: Software as a service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a
service (IaaS), and Platform as a service (PaaS). The first one is software as a service; it is a single
application on the internet to be used by all people. On the client side, it requires no investment into
running servers needed on the other side. This service also requires less maintenance and is cheaper.
Some applications that use this service are Hotmail, Google Apps, Skype, and other 2.0 applications.
Infrastructure as a service has unlimited storage on the cloud, and they can expand and shrink the
storage space. This one requires no need of a server to be running. Some refer to it as Hardware as a
service or Haas. One benefit is you pay only for the amount of storage you use. Amazon s web
services are one of the major companies to offer Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and

Jack Zipes Fairy Tales And The Art Of Subversion
The tradition of storytelling is as old as civilization itself. Man has always been fond of adventures
and legends. Tales from epics have been sung by bards in all parts of the world. The Iliad, as a story,
has existed long before Homer put it to paper. Owing to our intellectual prowess, humans have been
capable of deciphering countless number of phenomenon. However, that which we could not account
for, we feared or worshiped, labeling it as other worldly. When man assigned the unintelligible as
supernatural, he was absolutely smitten. He created fantasy a world full of fairies, gnomes, sprites,
monsters and ghosts all inducing emotions of either wonder, delight, or horror. Jack Zipes in his work
Fairy Tales and the Art of Subversion, emphasizing on the origin of fairy tales, states, Though it is
impossible to trace the historical origins and evolution of fairy tales to a particular time and place, we

Ever since oral folk narratives were translated into stable written texts intended to entertain children,
their original meaning has become masked, or at least obscured. Yet it is not impossible to recover that
meaning and its implications. The wolf in Little Red Riding Hood stands for not simply evil, but
vices, the mention of which in real life is bound to send chills up the spine. Rape and cannibalism
characterize the tale. The wolf represents the sexual predator and the cannibal, who in many versions
of the tale cooks the grandmother and feeds it to Little Red Riding Hood. The intention of rape is
nothing but highlighted in the tale. The wolf stalks Little Red Riding Hood to the grandmother s

ABSTRACT
In FEAABAQUS, adaptive mesh (ALE) method is one of the most important elements to maintain a
high quality mesh throughout an analysis in a case that large deformation causes element distortion.
The purpose of this master of engineering report is to use adaptive meshing in simulation of an
axisymmetric forging problem where highly deformation was seen. Meanwhile, investigating results
of elastic plastic deformation simulation in FEAABAQUS. Through finishing the simulation under
different mesh sizes and mesh types in ABAQUS, rectangle type meshing is better for this forging

foil on top of your loop.
Step 4. Using a flat iron, scrunch the foil 3 4 times. Be careful, the foil will be very hot for the next
few seconds so either use heat protective gloves or make sure you arrange your foils in a way that
those do not touch your face.
PRO TIP: While you can put tinfoil all over your hair and then warm up each of the foil cocoons I
recommend heating your foils one by one. That way, you ll allow each piece stay warm for a longer
period of time (read: your curls will last longer!).
Step 5. Take out the foils one by one. Spritz with some hair spray and you are all set!
I hope you enjoyed this fun flat iron trick! Please comment below if you ever tried it yourself. Also,
please let me know if you want to see more hair styling hacks posts on my blog I d love to share each

Watermelon Woman Analysis
As having a historical aspect in novels and films can have an major impact on plots, one must look at
the various ways history and historicity can be used. Both the novel Kindred and the film Watermelon
Woman utilize these historical aspects in similar and opposing ways to tell their stories. With matters
such as the knowledge (and/or lack of knowledge) and creating a imagine of history, the stories of
Dana and Cheryl provide readers and viewers with a look at the variety of impacts that can be
affected. In Watermelon Woman, viewers meet Cheryl, who is on a quest to find information on the
Watermelon Woman , a nickname given to Fae Richards, an actress she is fascinated with. Cheryl s
story is filled with seeking out people and sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of Cheryl s and Dana s placement of time(s) in Watermelon Woman and Kindred, the
characters journeys are focused differently upon in the matters of history versus historicity. Defining
history as the facts of the past, it is clear that Cheryl lacks history at the basis of her image of
Richards. Dana doesn t lack history in comparison; she knows of the facts from what she learned
through her time in the past, it s simply not written down accurately in records. Dana lived through
history as a prominent figure in the lives of her ancestors. Throughout Kindred, Dana s journey creates
an image of history for readers compared to Cheryl, whose ending of Watermelon Woman is simply an
image she has created for her viewers through the creation of the film. Dana experiences historicity
first handedly throughout time, giving a truth to the representation of history she knows to be missing
from history s records. Cheryl, comparably, is a caught up documentor who uses history to find the
truth, which in her case, can be argued against due to such a lack of records and reliable sources. The
importance of history and historicity lies with how they can be used to represent truth. History is not
always accurate, people are left out and disregarded as being labeled important figures of the past. On
the opposing side, when a character, such as Dana, is so closely tied to being a historistic figure,
readers can

What Are The Key Roles Involved In Running The...
Interviewing a few of moderators in this community gave insight into how it operated. One member of
the group noted two key roles involved in running the administrative side of the community. These
two roles may sound similar, but they have striking differences that make their variation requisite to
the success of the community. The higher of the two being the Administrative, position or the admin
for short. The second role is the Moderator, or mod. During normal operation, these roles share many
of the same responsibilities of each other. That is, until one important event causes the significant
schism to occur. This event is known as, high time.

Contrast this with the role of the administrator. During high time, the administrators are focusing on
what the future of the group will hold. To conceptualize this, they will be participating in the social
image of the community. This may entail advertisements, interview results, website review, and
magazine publications. They ll be the ones imagining, after this event dies down, what will our group
look like? What will we stand for after it is complete? Who will we be? Together, these two roles are
the scaffolding for the governance of this community.
There are a few other roles below the moderator and administrator position, which play less of a role
in the administration of the group. The one such role to note is the community s database of
information editors. These individuals are assigned the role after speaking specifically to an admin
who will ask what section of the database they are interested in contributing to. The users are put on a
trial as well where all of their initial posts are reviewed prior to full release. Once they have access,
they are given the task to documenting pertinent information to the subject they ve been assigned. The
user will learn about proper documentation techniques, and will become an elder within the topic.
All this being said, what type of governance does the community incorporate to deal with deviant
behavior? At a core the

Doing Business In Nepal
I decided to do my research for values and beliefs on Nepal, because it gave me an opportunity to
share a positive experience for my pastor unlike the one Bush had with the shoes. When the first
earthquake in Nepal happened we sent a team to Nepal to help, and while they were there they handed
out white scarves. Several months later my church sent our pastor and while there the same scarves
that were handed out previously to the people got returned to our pastor. As he was leaving people
came by and hung the scarves around his neck, he was told that this was the highest respect the people
of Nepal could show. He was also handed a wooden drinking vessel, that had survived the earthquake,
it was 100+ years old and he was told that it was the highest valued ... Show more content on

I can not tell you what an awesome feeling it was to listen to my pastor tell the story of what he
experienced. So when reading about the disrespect of Bush and the shoes it reminded me of what our
pastor experienced. So I decided to search on Nepal business etiquette. According to the article Doing
Business in Nepal), it is a practiced custom when invited to someones home to give a gift (Doing

because it helps get to know the person you are doing business with and help break the barrier of
conversation is talking about your family, work, and life experiences are all good ways to establish
personal relationships (Culture Crossing). Which in my opinion is a good thing to help you in your
business meeting. Something I found interesting and is not practiced as it use to be in the US, if you
are invited for a meal then the host is expected to pay for it, and they consider it rude if you offer to
pay (Doing Business in Nepal). Now I don t know personally from a

THE CANADIAN MAGAZINE DISPUTE THESIS STATEMENT
The negative effect of globalization on nearby culture is exacerbated by the day. It is developing with
the exemption. It is always debilitating the thoughts, governmental issues and economy of countries.
Since culture as a term is utilized to depict practically every human attempt; it is hard to draw a
division between the true social activities deserving of exceptional defensive measure. This essay is an
exploration of the effect of globalization on nearby societies with the Canadian Magazine Dispute as a
core interest.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Self-Delusion In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
1. Self delusion seems to be an affliction that affects many of the characters in the play. Choosing any
two characters, show how and explain why self delusion is a hindrance to developing a true, honest
sense of self. Use two or three specific examples and relevant quotes from the text to support your
argument.
Self delusion is the act of deceiving one s self, in the play Death of a Salesman we see self delusion
taking place between two characters which are Willy and his son Happy. In the play self delusion is a
hindrance to developing a true, honest sense of self because they are lying about the person that they
truly are. We see throughout the play Happy and Willy not grasping reality and mainly exaggerating

Happy s self delusions come from wanting to exceed his father s expectations in hopes that one day
his father would approve. Since Happy had always listened to his father s over exaggerated stories it is
possible that he himself learned to over exaggerate his own so that he could appear well off and
successful. One of Happy s self delusions is portraying that he is successful in his job, he claims to be
the assistant buyer but in reality he is the assistant to the assistant You big blow, are you the assistant
buyer? You re one of the two assistants to the assistant, aren t you? (pg.131). This fits the theme of self
delusion because Happy cannot seem to grasp reality and instead hopes that people will believe his
eccentric job title. Another self delusion that Happy seems to create is embellishing the stories about
his affairs with most women and how a lot of women want him because he is a womanizer. Happy
sounds proud of himself when speaking about how he has ruined the lives of the women that he has
had sexual relations with because they happened to be married. Another self delusion that Happy
keeps repeating is that he is going to get married. Happy is a womanizer and most likely is not going
to get married anytime soon in the play because he seems to enjoy the company of a lot of woman
even though he feels lonely. Happy telling his father that he is going to get married is so that he could
reach his father s standards and so that his father could realize that he is getting his life in order and all
that he is really missing is a wife. Happy s self delusions come into play when you see him mimicking

The Creation Of Adam s Ceiling Essay
According to arthistory.about.com The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo, which
is on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling. The Sistine Chapel forms part of the large Papal Chapel built within
the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel s ceiling
in 1508. Michelangelo painted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The creation of Adam was
painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to complete. In the Sistine
Chapel s this painting is located next to the Creation of Eve, which is the panel at the center of the
room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar. The ceiling measures about 141
feet by 43 feet. Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of frescoes. (arthistory.about.com)
According to www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting fresco painting is a method of painting water
based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. The colors are made by grinding
dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint dries and sets with the plaster to become a
permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends itself to a
monumental style, is durable, and has a matte surface. This contributed to why Michelangelo chose to
paint using this style. (www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting)

Police Enforcement And The Police Agencies
Introduce: I think we all can agree that the police agencies, image has been ruined in every way you
could possibly think of. I truly believe that no one honors the police agencies anymore. As technology
has enhance over the years, far as cell phones, people are able to see what police officers are really
doing while on the force. There have been many video release when police brutality was reveal, as
well as how the police agencies respond to an incident. Over the years, community policing has
declined. People just don t trust the police anymore. The media has ruined it! The police is here to
protect. Police agencies, faces a number of issues today, I found that preventing racial profiling,
recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce, and reducing community violence were the most
challenging. All points go hand in hand, to actually produce a solution to better the police agencies.
Recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce: There are in an increase in challenges, with recruiting
and retaining a skilled workforce. Police agencies are having experiencing shortage issues. According
to ABCNews, states that the number of applicants to the police department has dropped 90 percent

varies reason why people don t join the police agencies, such as people view the job as dangerous .

Departures Storm Jameson
In Departures, Storm Jameson depicts her isolation as a child and its continuation into adulthood.
Behind the cold barriers that Jameson builds around herself in both her child and adult life, an
unending cycle of fear continues within her. This cycle is reflected in the narrative structure of the
anecdote. Jameson s authorial choices to employ Labov s elements in a disjointed fashion and have a
brief complicating action reinforce her social detachment both as a child and an adult. Along with the
disjointed narrative elements, an omitted coda and resolution convey that the detachment continues
throughout her life in a cycle of fear and isolation. With the intent of creating a structural detachment
that reflects her own emotional detachment, Jameson, as author, puts together an orientation and
complicating action that don t appear to go together. On a September train ride, distant memories and
thoughts blur past the grown Jameson s eyes, such as the journeys made feverish by unmanageable
longings and ambitions, night journeys in wartime (15) and continue to make their way to the
forefront of her mind with a picture of the darkened corridor crammed with young men in clumsy
khaki, smoking, falling asleep, [and] journeys with a heavy baby in one arm (Jameson 15). Before
Jameson as adult can make her way back to her memory as a child, she must travel through many
other memories of departures and journeys. This roundabout way in which Jameson brings her reader
into her memories structurally reflects the detached feelings she has for herself as a child. It suggests a
physiological separation between Jameson and herself because she cannot easily think about her past.
These detached feelings are enforced textually when she uses the third person to refer to herself as the
child (15) and to those presumably close to her like her mother, whom she calls the captain s wife
(16). By creating this structural and textual detachment, Jameson emphasizes her emotional isolation
from herself as a child. Before speaking about herself as a child, she must search through her
memories like a knot of adders uncoiling themselves, (15) which suggests that it is painful for
Jameson to reach back to her childhood

Inbreeding Depression By Environment Interactions Essay
Inbreeding Depression
Inbreeding depression is a widely studied topic in the fields of not only genetics, but as well as the
fields of biology, ecology, etc. Directly speaking, inbreeding depression results in the loss or reduced
expression of a trait due to the mating between two closely related organisms (Hartl 547). As of today,
there are a plethora of studies and evidence that explain how and why inbreeding occurs within
populations even though it is deleterious for the populations. However, several of these experiments
are done in an unnatural environment or researchers have manipulated data in a way to deem the
results not truly representative (JM Pemberton et al.,2016). It is vital to discover and understand the
inbreeding depression of organisms in natural conditions so that this area of study is accurately
represented by reasonable data and the knowledge of this topic can be expanded accurately. The
article, Inbreeding Depression by Environment Interactions in a Free living Mammal Population
published in Heredity in November 2016, discusses research done on a population of sheep in St.
Kilda in attempt to discover inbreeding depression by environment interaction with unmanipulated
and true data. The sheep live on an isolated island, so it is assumed that inbreeding is high in the
population and genetic variation is low as well.
In this article, the researchers analyzed nine traits in the sheep for inbreeding depression by
environment interaction. These traits are

Effectiveness Of A Patient Applied 10 % Potassium Nitrate
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Reinhart, T. C., Killoy, W. J., Love, J., Overman, P. R., Sakumura, J. S. (1990)
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a patient applied 10% potassium nitrate glycerine
based gel in decreasing dentinal sensitivity on teeth with exposed dentin apical to the cementoenamel
junction. The patients were divided into 3 treatment groups: group 1 was treated with a glycerine
based 10% potassium nitrate gel; group 2 was treated with a glycerine gel without potassium nitrate;
and group 3 received no gel and no treatment (control). Following brushing and flossing, groups 1 and
2 applied the gel to the test teeth using custom made soft acrylic trays, for a period of 5 min/ day for 4
weeks. Patient responses to cold water stimuli were measured at baseline (week 0), then at I , 2 , 3 and
4 week intervals. Group 1 patients showed a significant decrease in sensitivity to cold at week 2 only.
The group 2 patients showed a significant decrease in sensitivity to cold after 3 and 4 weeks. A
statistically significant decrease in sensitivity was noted between group 2 and group 3 patients at week
3, the most sustained decrease in sensitivity to cold was found on teeth treated with plain glycerine.
Ide M, Wilson RF, Ashley FP. (2001)
The aim of the study was to investigate the reproducibility of commonly used measurement protocols
for dentine hypersensitivity on single or multiple teeth. In addition, newly developed controlled air

online searches about the tainted milk scandal. This has made the company s information appear

financial activities will be displayed and the public will see it themselves if there is any unclean
transactions were made. With this action, if the company did not do anything unethical, it will be the
only matter of time that the company would gain back the trust from public.
Q4. Governments throughout the world have been slow to react publicly to serious problems such as
SARS, mad cow disease, and now melamine contamination. Who benefits and who loses because of
these delays?
Governmental follow up has not been speedy ever since the investigation of melamine contamination
was revealed. With these delays, the manufacturing companies that have been exporting milk power
would make use of the time lag to clear their remaining stocks before the rumors go wild. As a result,
these companies would not only earn expected profits but also be free from reputational and financial
losses. The only group who suffers from these delays would be the buyers especially direct
consumers. While the government takes a minute longer, we won t know how many more killing

And there is no such consciousness. Anyway, that was one of many answers. One of my favorites was
this. This was in a public debate. A guy said to me, but suppose we ask you, do you understand
Chinese? And suppose you say, yes, I understand Chinese. Well? Well, OK, let s try that and see how

I insist on a good question period. So let me take a drink of water, and we go to the next step, which I
think is more important. A lot of people thought, well, look, maybe the computer doesn t understand
Chinese, but all the same, it does information processing.
And it does, after all, do computation. That s what we define the machine to do. And I had to review a
couple of books recently. One book said that we live in a new age, the age of information. And in a
wonderful outburst, the author said everything is information. Now that ought to worry us if
everything is information. And I read another book. This was an optimistic book. I reviewed this for
The New York Review of Books a less optimistic book by a guy who said computers are now so smart

And then I don t have to tell this audience the next step. They ll be much smarter than we are. And
then look out because they might get sick of being oppressed by us. And they might simply rise up and
overthrow us all. And this, the author said modestly I guess this is how you sell books he said this may
be the greatest challenge that humanity has ever faced, the upcoming revolt of super smart computers.
Now, I want to say both of these claims are silly. I mean, I m speaking shorthand here. There ll be

The Tell Tale Heart By Edgar Allen Poe
There is no genius without some touch of madness. (Aristotle) However, when it is fueled by constant
denial, madness can suddenly turn into a force that completely controls us. The Tell Tale Heart , a
short story by Edgar Allen Poe, explores the effects of madness on an individual s character and
actions through the narrator and his attempt to convince the reader and himself of his sanity. The story
follows his struggles in constantly denying his madness, rather than accepting what he is. As the short
story progresses, it becomes evident that even a touch of madness can go on to overtake our thoughts
and actions especially if we cannot accept it as an essential part of us. An individual s ability to accept
and face madness is directly related to their personal sense of acknowledgement and their self
awareness that is associated with that. The narrator confesses that the sole reason for killing the old
man is his eye. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made
up my mind to rid myself of the eye for ever. The narrator begins his tale of madness by trying to
convince the reader he is not insane, but the reader quickly speculates that the narrator indeed is out of
control. The fact that the old man s eye is the only motivation to murder him proves the narrator is so
mentally unstable that he must search for justification to kill. In his mind, he rationalizes murder with
his own unreasonable fear of the eye. The narrator

  • 4. The Medical Ethics Of Human Experimentation When one researches about the medical ethics in human experimentation, it is difficult to disregard the harsh realities of it. As Leonard Nimoy stated in his role as Spock in the movie, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few . This is the cruel truth that be seen everywhere, but many people tend to ignore it since it is such a dreary thought. Many people, especially those in third world countries, are exploited every day. Large corporate companies come to typically poorer foreign nations, where there is a large gap between the rich and poor, to find cheaper workers. Many people in these foreigners tend to be desperate for money and immediately sign up for these jobs. Typical corporations would hire these people and make them work in inhumane working conditions such as long hours, less pay, and give no sanitation facilities. Although this happens on an everyday basis, there are very few people out there who challenge the large corporations. This example can also apply to medical ethics, sometimes a small amount of people have to suffer through experiments to help the general public. Although this is a morbid thought, it has been used in the past. During the mid twentieth century, many American scientist believe that experimenting on a few people and making them suffer would create results that would be very beneficial to the general public. Today, most modern developed countries don t believe in this ideology, but there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A pilot study will be performed since no current research looking at the effect of mirror therapy performed on stroke patients with neglect with primary outcome measures of SCT and LBT have provided exact values of means with standard deviations between the groups. An effect size of .50 will be used based on the study performed by Pandian et al. which looked at the effect of mirror therapy performed on stroke patients with neglect and used similar primary outcome measures as this study (Pandian) Therefore, with an effect size of .5, a sample size of 64 participants in each group will be needed. However, it is necessary to account for a predicted attrition rate when recruiting participants. Based on the 12% attrition rate seen in the study performed by Pandian et al., this study will start with an additional 8 participants per group with the hope of maintaining 80% power and reducing the risk of a type II error. (Pandian) Therefore, this study will begin with 72 participants in each group. An intention to treat analysis will be performed in order to account for subjects who drop out of the study. • 6. The Continental Army Of General Washington The Continental Army, under the command of General Washington, had followed the British forces to an area located in Freehold, NJ. General Washington s use of IPB played out on multiple fronts during the pre battle phase. In one aspect, General Washington directed forces under the command of Major General Charles Lee to harass the British rear guard. This started June 18, 1778, as the British forces exited Philadelphia with 12,000 personnel and 12 mile baggage train (Stryker, 1927). The baggage train consisted of personnel goods, minimal resupplies, and basic food items. General Washington also had troops add to the challenges of the movement by mudding wells, destroying bridges and constructing blockades on roads. Unbeknownst to General Clinton, General Washington had sent an advance unit to direct the New Jersey Militia. Generals William Maxwell and Philemon Dickerson, ordered the NJ Militia to destroy nearly every bridge along known routes (Mitnick, 2005). This caused General Clinton to either repair the bridges or wade across shallow rivers crosses leading to the further exhaustion his men and beasts of burden. This also directed the British troops to move towards the Monmouth courthouse. The Continentals prediction of routes through IPB allowed for continuous harassment of the British troops while at a safe distance. General Clinton used the date of June 27th, to rest his men and reconnoiter the areas by scouts. He used his scouts to determine possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On Operation Enduring Freedom On September 10th 2001 a cold front swept through the East Coast with rain and thunderstorms that would leave behind a cool clear morning on September 11, 2001. That morning started as normally as any other Tuesday of the year. The sun shined and the birds were singing. Children headed for school, as adults set out for work. There was no foreshadowing or any warning of what was to come. The morning routine of a bustling New York City was well into a rhythm, when the world that Americans knew, was brought to its knees, and would forever be changed. At 8:45 a.m., Eastern Time, out of the sky hurdled, toward Manhattan, an airplane. The American Airlines flight 11 was a Boeing 767 airliner that was flying uncharacteristically low. At 8:46 a.m., the plane struck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Operation Enduring Freedom started on October 20th 2001, Operation Enduring Freedom was part of a larger conflict that would become known as the Global War on Terrorism. The objective of the war was to free the regions of focus from the grips of extremist ideology and rule. Operation Enduring Freedom was gateway to another Middle East conflict that would begin to liberate a people from the oppressive rule of a sadistic dictator. Operation Iraqi Freedom was started in order to liberate the Iraqi people from the rule of Saddam Hussein and also to remove possible weapons of mass destruction from the unstable control of said ruler. The conflict, which claimed the lives of 4,491 American troops, began on March 20th 2003 and ended on December 18th 2011. • 8. Comparing The Alinsky Tradition And Friedman Approaches,... In the article Contrasting Organization Approaching The Alinsky Tradition and Friedman Approaches, Marty Martinson and Celena Sue discuss several ways in which Alinsky dealt with situations which he thought could benefit the parties that were oppressed. He believed power lies with the people and forming of organizations was one of the ways that a society or community would receive positive results. The main premise of the organizations was to select a leader who could be seen as an outsider with a passion to motivate members of that community to plead their cause with the aim of winning. One example in which Alinsky s approach was successful was during the 1930s in Chicago. The Armour s Company, which is one of the meat parkers company was treating their employees in a very distasteful manner. For example, the company could cut their wages three times during the year without any consultation with the employees and they had no security as well. This was considered a huge problem since the employees could not do anything about because they had no union representation. To address this problem, with the help of Alinksy Backyard neighborhood council was formed; it was a coalition of the churches, unions and approximately one hundred small businesses. This coalition held a massive rally to address the problems that these employees faced at the workplace and the need to get them into a union. Today, the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is the most energy efficient light bulb on the market. In the beginning, consumers had resistance toward the CFL. With governmental support in establishing energy efficient lighting programs, the CFL have been able to stay in the market and improve throughout the years. One must wonder why this new and improved technology is left in the dark and why the resistance to the CFL? Historical Significance The incandescent light bulbs dates back to Thomas Edison s 1879 design which was a marvelous invention for the 19th Century. The incandescent light bulb heats a filament by electric resistance inside a sealed glass globe and makes the thin tungsten wire glow white hot (Luoma, 1991). The incandescent blub is very inefficient because only 10% of the electricity flowing into the filament becomes light and the remaining nine tenths is lost at heat (Luoma, 1991). A standard blub is hot to the touch because it expends more than 90% of the electrical energy keeping its tungsten filament hot enough to glow (Roodman, 1993). A more advanced alternative to the standard incandescent light bulb is the CFL. Fluorescent tubes, developed in the 1930 s, utilize a chemical physical process involving the ionization of argon gas (Luoma, 1991). The fluorescent bulbs use one fifth to one third as much electricity to deliver the same number of lumens as conventional incandescent light bulbs (Petrowski, 1995). However, fluorescent s adaptability to everyday household lamps have been hampered by the bulkiness of its long tubes and by problems with flickering and unpleasant light. With ... There are three types of deployment models used in the everyday; they are the following: public, hybrid, and private. Public cloud is accessed by anyone on the internet through web applications and services. The hybrid cloud contains many inside and outside developers used by many businesses. Lastly, the private cloud is services only offered on a private network where no one outside the network can access. This model is safer because the cloud is not open to data breaches (compared to a public cloud). Cloud computing also offers three kind of services: Software as a service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and Platform as a service (PaaS). The first one is software as a service; it is a single application on the internet to be used by all people. On the client side, it requires no investment into running servers needed on the other side. This service also requires less maintenance and is cheaper. Some applications that use this service are Hotmail, Google Apps, Skype, and other 2.0 applications. Infrastructure as a service has unlimited storage on the cloud, and they can expand and shrink the storage space. This one requires no need of a server to be running. Dana doesn t lack history in comparison; she knows of the facts from what she learned through her time in the past, it s simply not written down accurately in records. All points go hand in hand, to actually produce a solution to better the police agencies. Recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce: There are in an increase in challenges, with recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce. Police agencies are having experiencing shortage issues. According to ABCNews, states that the number of applicants to the police department has dropped 90 percent over the past five years, and Reno, Nev., which reports a decline of 50 percent since 1997. There are varies reason why people don t join the police agencies, such as people view the job as dangerous . Most people are likely to join the force simply because it something at heart. • 30. Departures Storm Jameson In Departures, Storm Jameson depicts her isolation as a child and its continuation into adulthood. Behind the cold barriers that Jameson builds around herself in both her child and adult life, an unending cycle of fear continues within her. This cycle is reflected in the narrative structure of the anecdote. Jameson s authorial choices to employ Labov s elements in a disjointed fashion and have a brief complicating action reinforce her social detachment both as a child and an adult. Along with the disjointed narrative elements, an omitted coda and resolution convey that the detachment continues throughout her life in a cycle of fear and isolation. With the intent of creating a structural detachment that reflects her own emotional detachment, Jameson, as author, puts together an orientation and complicating action that don t appear to go together. On a September train ride, distant memories and thoughts blur past the grown Jameson s eyes, such as the journeys made feverish by unmanageable longings and ambitions, night journeys in wartime (15) and continue to make their way to the forefront of her mind with a picture of the darkened corridor crammed with young men in clumsy khaki, smoking, falling asleep, [and] journeys with a heavy baby in one arm (Jameson 15). Before Jameson as adult can make her way back to her memory as a child, she must travel through many other memories of departures and journeys. This roundabout way in which Jameson brings her reader into her memories structurally reflects the detached feelings she has for herself as a child. It suggests a physiological separation between Jameson and herself because she cannot easily think about her past. These detached feelings are enforced textually when she uses the third person to refer to herself as the child (15) and to those presumably close to her like her mother, whom she calls the captain s wife (16). By creating this structural and textual detachment, Jameson emphasizes her emotional isolation from herself as a child. Before speaking about herself as a child, she must search through her memories like a knot of adders uncoiling themselves, (15) which suggests that it is painful for Jameson to reach back to her childhood ... • 31. Inbreeding Depression By Environment Interactions Essay Inbreeding Depression Inbreeding depression is a widely studied topic in the fields of not only genetics, but as well as the fields of biology, ecology, etc. Directly speaking, inbreeding depression results in the loss or reduced expression of a trait due to the mating between two closely related organisms (Hartl 547). As of today, there are a plethora of studies and evidence that explain how and why inbreeding occurs within populations even though it is deleterious for the populations. However, several of these experiments are done in an unnatural environment or researchers have manipulated data in a way to deem the results not truly representative (JM Pemberton et al.,2016). It is vital to discover and understand the inbreeding depression of organisms in natural conditions so that this area of study is accurately represented by reasonable data and the knowledge of this topic can be expanded accurately. The article, Inbreeding Depression by Environment Interactions in a Free living Mammal Population published in Heredity in November 2016, discusses research done on a population of sheep in St. Kilda in attempt to discover inbreeding depression by environment interaction with unmanipulated and true data. The sheep live on an isolated island, so it is assumed that inbreeding is high in the population and genetic variation is low as well. In this article, the researchers analyzed nine traits in the sheep for inbreeding depression by environment interaction. These traits are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Effectiveness Of A Patient Applied 10 % Potassium Nitrate REVIEW OF LITERATURE Reinhart, T. C., Killoy, W. J., Love, J., Overman, P. R., Sakumura, J. S. (1990) This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a patient applied 10% potassium nitrate glycerine based gel in decreasing dentinal sensitivity on teeth with exposed dentin apical to the cementoenamel junction. The patients were divided into 3 treatment groups: group 1 was treated with a glycerine based 10% potassium nitrate gel; group 2 was treated with a glycerine gel without potassium nitrate; and group 3 received no gel and no treatment (control). Following brushing and flossing, groups 1 and 2 applied the gel to the test teeth using custom made soft acrylic trays, for a period of 5 min/ day for 4 weeks. Patient responses to cold water stimuli were measured at baseline (week 0), then at I , 2 , 3 and 4 week intervals. Group 1 patients showed a significant decrease in sensitivity to cold at week 2 only. The group 2 patients showed a significant decrease in sensitivity to cold after 3 and 4 weeks. A statistically significant decrease in sensitivity was noted between group 2 and group 3 patients at week 3, the most sustained decrease in sensitivity to cold was found on teeth treated with plain glycerine. Ide M, Wilson RF, Ashley FP. (2001) The aim of the study was to investigate the reproducibility of commonly used measurement protocols for dentine hypersensitivity on single or multiple teeth. In addition, newly developed controlled air and cold fluid stimuli were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Ethics Assignment Case 1: China s tainted baby milk powder Q1. Given strong profit growth, has there been any damage to Baidu.com s reputation? Yes, as we can see it from a whole picture obviously there has been damage to Baidu.com s reputation. Ever since the incident happened, Baidu.com has been affected by rumors saying that it accepted the screen out payments to protect a certain number of milk manufacturing company from online searches about the tainted milk scandal. This has made the company s information appear unreliable. It would not be taken into account if Baidu.com were a small company with narrow scale, in this case, when the rumor has gone too far, it is time for Baidu.com to take action or it would be too late. All they need to do is to disclose company s financial reports to public. By making things transparent, all financial activities will be displayed and the public will see it themselves if there is any unclean transactions were made. With this action, if the company did not do anything unethical, it will be the only matter of time that the company would gain back the trust from public. Q4. Governments throughout the world have been slow to react publicly to serious problems such as SARS, mad cow disease, and now melamine contamination. Who benefits and who loses because of these delays? Governmental follow up has not been speedy ever since the investigation of melamine contamination was revealed. With these delays, the manufacturing companies that have been exporting milk power would make use of the time lag to clear their remaining stocks before the rumors go wild. As a result, these companies would not only earn expected profits but also be free from reputational and financial losses. The only group who suffers from these delays would be the buyers especially direct consumers. While the government takes a minute longer, we won t know how many more killing products would be sold and consumed, and how many more people would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Pros And Cons Of Understanding China But the room can t either. How does the room get from the syntax of the computer program of the input symbols to the semantics of the understanding of the symbols? There s no way the room can get there because that would require some consciousness in the room in addition to my consciousness. And there is no such consciousness. Anyway, that was one of many answers. One of my favorites was this. This was in a public debate. A guy said to me, but suppose we ask you, do you understand Chinese? And suppose you say, yes, I understand Chinese. Well? Well, OK, let s try that and see how far we get. I get a question that looks like this. Now, this will be in a dialect of Chinese some of you won t recognize. Unknown to me, that symbol means, do you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I insist on a good question period. So let me take a drink of water, and we go to the next step, which I think is more important. A lot of people thought, well, look, maybe the computer doesn t understand Chinese, but all the same, it does information processing. And it does, after all, do computation. That s what we define the machine to do. And I had to review a couple of books recently. One book said that we live in a new age, the age of information. And in a wonderful outburst, the author said everything is information. Now that ought to worry us if everything is information. And I read another book. This was an optimistic book. I reviewed this for The New York Review of Books a less optimistic book by a guy who said computers are now so smart they re almost as smart as we are. And pretty soon, they ll be just as smart as we are. And then I don t have to tell this audience the next step. They ll be much smarter than we are. And then look out because they might get sick of being oppressed by us. And they might simply rise up and overthrow us all. And this, the author said modestly I guess this is how you sell books he said this may be the greatest challenge that humanity has ever faced, the upcoming revolt of super smart computers. Now, I want to say both of these claims are silly. I mean, I m speaking shorthand here. There ll be plenty of chance to answer me. And I want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Tell Tale Heart By Edgar Allen Poe There is no genius without some touch of madness. (Aristotle) However, when it is fueled by constant denial, madness can suddenly turn into a force that completely controls us. The Tell Tale Heart , a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, explores the effects of madness on an individual s character and actions through the narrator and his attempt to convince the reader and himself of his sanity. The story follows his struggles in constantly denying his madness, rather than accepting what he is. As the short story progresses, it becomes evident that even a touch of madness can go on to overtake our thoughts and actions especially if we cannot accept it as an essential part of us. An individual s ability to accept and face madness is directly related to their personal sense of acknowledgement and their self awareness that is associated with that. The narrator confesses that the sole reason for killing the old man is his eye. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I made up my mind to rid myself of the eye for ever. The narrator begins his tale of madness by trying to convince the reader he is not insane, but the reader quickly speculates that the narrator indeed is out of control. The fact that the old man s eye is the only motivation to murder him proves the narrator is so mentally unstable that he must search for justification to kill. In his mind, he rationalizes murder with his own unreasonable fear of the eye. The narrator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
