Essay on Adults with Learning Disabilities
Adults with Learning Disabilities
The field has not quite reached consensus on definitions of LD, and there are professionals as well as
members of the public who do not understand them or believe they exist. For example, in a Roper
(1995) survey of 1,200 adults, 85% associated LD with mental retardation 66% with deafness, and
60% with blindness. In Rocco s (1997) research, faculty questioned the existence of certain conditions
or if they existed, the appropriateness of classifying the condition as a disability (p. 158). However,
most definitions describe learning disabilities as a group of disorders that affect the ability to acquire
and use listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or math skills (Gerber and Reiff 1994; ...

One reason for the variance is misidentification. African Americans and Hispanics are often
inappropriately diagnosed with LD, such as speakers of African American English whose language
may be considered substandard or deficient by assessors (Gregg et al. 1996). There is also the
unresolved question yet persistent belief that one half of all adults with low literacy skills in fact have
learning disabilities (Gerber and Reiff 1994, p. 121).
Successful Adjustment for Adults with LD
Adults with LD may face challenges in several areas of life, including education, employment, daily
routines, and social interactions. However, many are able to make successful life adjustments.
Research has recently been directed toward learning what factors help these adults succeed. Most of
these studies used such measures of success as educational attainment, income, job level, and job and
life satisfaction. Success was influenced by educational experiences and personal characteristics/
background. Educational factors included the following: high school completion; quality of
elementary secondary education; quality of postsecondary education, training, and services; and a shift
from a remedial to a compensatory approach in special education (Gerber and Reiff 1994). Successful

Ways in which Lifelong Learning can Contribute towards the...
Introduction:
In this essay, ways in which lifelong learning can contribute towards the new global culture and new
knowledge society, facts about lifelong learning and how the educator deals with the learners will be
discussed.
What is learning?
Learning is defined as obtaining a new ability or knowledge. For example: leaning to ride a bike,
learning to walk, learning a new language, and so on.
What is lifelong learning?
According to the English dictionary, lifelong learning is the use of both formal and informal learning
opportunities throughout people s lives in order to foster the continuous development and
improvement of the knowledge and skills needed for employment and personal fulfilment.
This means that lifelong learning is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more disciplinary way to handle a disruptive student would be to keep a list of all the student s
transgressions and then discuss these transgressions with their parents. This forms a dialogue with the
parents so that they can find out what the reason is for their child s disruptive behaviour and therefore
being able to come up with a solution to this issue.
You have to get to the roots of why each individual is acting in such a way. Usually they are searching
for attention must find a way to make sure the student can get attention for positive behaviour. Poor
behaviour should get either no attention or the kind of attention that is so negative the student won t
want it. Brad, Compton, CA
Dealing with exceptional learners (outstanding):
An exceptional learner is defined as a student with both gifts and a learning disability. This means that
the learner is either handicapped, autistic, retarded, or has some other kind of disability that requires
them to be treated and taught differently.
A school or organization is required by the law to make an effort to maintain equality in educational
opportunities and admission. Legislation in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 forbids
discrimination on the basis of physical/sensory handicap or mental retardation.
When dealing with exceptional learners, it is imperative that the lecturer has the appropriate
educational course that would suit an

The Duchess Figurative Language
Through the use of figurative language, imagery, and symbolism Robert Browning is able to portray
his poem about the Duke in the light he wants. The several literary devices used in figurative language
aid in he conversational flow, while the imagery gives you the sense of what emotion is going at the
time, and symbolism showing the underlying use for the subjects mentioned throughout the poem. The
several literary devices most predominantly used in the poem are assonance and alliteration. For
example, the depth and passion of its earnest glance... is an example of assonance used in the poem as
well as And seemed as they would ask me, if they durst. The reason Browning uses this technique so
much is because of his format, he has his poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To make a clearer depiction of the character of the Duke and his opinion and treatment of his late wife,
Browning effectively made use of Renaissance images. The most apparent symbol used is the portrait
of the late Duchess, painted on the wall by artist Frà Pandolf. The poem only tells the reader that the
painting captures the Duchess bright personality and her love for life a depiction that has distressed
the Duke when her wife was still alive. But the painting itself and how it came to be tells us more
about the Duke s personality. The painting portrayed and captured the duchess in a nice light,
however, the duke chooses who can see it as he stated, none puts by the curtain I have drawn for you,
but I... clearly the duke only wants to show a select few of people how he wants his last duchess to be
remembered. Also, he also mentions a bronze statue of Neptune towards the end of the poem where he
speaks of himself like the god of the sea and as you read further on the reader will notice the duke
likes to present himself as someone in power. The duke turned things into valuable pieces in order to
show he is dominant and powerful, just like how he personified the painting of his late wife and how
he described the bronze

Charles Eames Psychology
Although I am familiar with the Eames name and especially their contributions to chair design, I
admittedly did not know the Eames were so engrained in American history beyond their contributions
to the chair.
The one thing that really stands out to me as the main reason for their success is specifically Charles
Eames insatiable desire to learn, and further, the incorporation of his artistic and architectural visions
to produce novel ideas and projects to epitomize Gardner s great man/woman definition of creativity.
It would be naïve to dismiss the idea that revenue was also most likely a motivating factor, but the
revenue as depicted in the documentary was specifically a means to financial ends; a source of income
for truly revolutionary work. I think ultimately, no matter the amount of revenue, unless someone is
inherently motivated, Gardner s great man/woman definition cannot be fulfilled due to the almost
magical power that innate motivation, interest, drive, and work ethic have on individuals who are
heralded in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From both of the accounts, it seemed that regardless of what was going on around them, they both had
a continuous, unrelenting thought process regarding things they were passionate about. As Einstein
eloquently stated, I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. In my opinion, although
Einstein understated his legendary scientific acumen (the same acumen that makes his name
synonymous with genius), the quote reinforces the idea that Einstein s curiosity was most instrumental
in his success. It would make sense, considering both are posthumously esteemed members of
academia for their theories and providing revolutionary food for thought. Eames seemed to have this
same desire where it seems he was always trying to think or learn simply out of his love for

Forensic Pathologists And Autopsies
The Importance of Forensic Pathologists and Autopsies Death becomes a part of every single person s
life at some point in time, whether it is in the form of a close relative, parent, spouse, or even one s
own death. While it is not the most pleasant subject, death is something that needs to be addressed to
prepare those who will have to manage it when the time comes. Depending on the situation at hand,
certain circumstances of demise may not be completely understood, and in these cases, autopsies can
provide families with closure by giving them answers needed to clarify any questions that may have
come along with the loss of their loved one ( American Autopsy Services , np). With new advances in
technology and new medical diagnostic systems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having an answer regarding a loved one s death in cases of uncertainty is psychologically beneficial
to the family members, especially if they are concerned that the death had occurred because of
something they did. If there were any genetic disorders that led to the death, those can be clarified and
relayed to the family as well. Clinicians and hospitals benefit from autopsies because they provide
reassurance of the diagnoses, treatments and the appropriateness of the medical care received. Society
experiences the benefits of autopsies through the evaluation of diagnostic tests, drugs, and diagnostic
techniques along with advanced medical knowledge of new diseases as well as environmental,
occupational, and existing diseases. Mortality statistics are only able to be verified from autopsy data
because so often statistics are inaccurate with the lack of an autopsy (Stöppler,

Dream Interpretation Research Paper
Dream interpretation is an old tradition that dates back at least as far as Biblical times. Perhaps the
most famous instance of dream interpretation is where the Pharaoh tells David his dreams about seven
skinny sheep eating seven fat sheep and seven skinny ears of corn eating seven fat ears of corn. David
interpreted this to mean seven years of bumper crops followed by seven years of poor crops. With
proper planning, this allowed the Pharaoh to protect his people from potential famine during the
coming lean years.
Dreams can be a means to tap into subconscious thought processes and tell us what we know that we
don t even consciously realize that we know. But we are also more psychically sensitive when we
sleep. So our dreams can contain extra sensory information that is unavailable to most people when
they are awake. Most premonitions of the future actually occur in dream form, not in waking visions.
The vast majority of the time, dreams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you read your written notes out loud, you may find that the dreams are like pictures of common
expressions. This may be something you do not notice in the images or if you read the words silently
to yourself. It may only become apparent when you speak it out loud and hear the homonyms and
common phrases, such as the expression of something bugging me to express something bothering
you or being stabbed in the back to express a feeling of betrayal and so forth.
Especially at first, or when you are going through a particularly stressful time when the stakes are high
for you, it can help to run your dreams past someone else, preferably someone knowledgeable about
dream interpretation. They can help you sort out the most likely meaning. Sometimes, dream
meanings can be counterintuitive or people can read in either what they would like to hear or perhaps
what they most fear instead of what is really there. An objective listener can help you avoid such

Hills Like White Elephants Symbolism
Throughout the course of each person s life, the journey for life appreciation is tested. Many paths are
taken to find the value of it, but when found, it includes the decisions of choosing what s valuable.
Ernest Hemingway Hills like White Elephants is a short story that reveals people s unseen
appreciation for life. As suggested by the title this literary story fits into sub genre realistic fiction,
showing people s different approaches for appreciation. Taking place in 1927, this story focuses on a
young couple who face a big decision in their relationship. On their trip towards Madrid, they stop at a
junction to pause and reflect on their choices. The women can either follow her boyfriend suggestions
of aborting the baby or terminate their relationship by keeping it. Ernest Hemingway exposes the

In this story the use of symbolism is used to expose Jig s appreciation of life by identifying herself
with a scenic view. The theme of this story is revealed by her portraying her sentiments towards

when he writes They re lovely hills she said (222) exposing to the reader that this character is a person

desensitized he shows no emotions towards the death of his father, impacting his loss of innocence.
Wiesel saw many deaths, many lives taken, he is numb to the feeling of death. As his father is taken

was out of tears. And deep inside me, if I could not weep. But I was out of tears [..] I might have

The Consequences of the Economic Development of Polar and Sub Polar Regions
Although indigenous populations established themselves centuries ago, polar and sub polar regions of
the Arctic and Antarctica have only fairly recently begun to develop. Originally classified as remote
regions in the world, where the only activities, which took place, were small scale fishing and hunting
by locals in order to survive, they have become sources of great economic development and
prosperity.
Due to their proximity to many highly populated countries, Arctic regions have perhaps experienced
greater economic development than Antarctic regions. The route of this economic development began

In 1968, the great quantities of oil and gas discovered beneath Alaska s North Slope, overlooking
Prudhoe Bay, subsequently led to the construction of the Trans Alaska pipeline to Valdez in 1974. This
increased communication links and trade links and therefore brought in vast amounts of money for the
economy and until 1990, oil and natural gas still provided 85% of Alaska s gross state product.
As personal wealth and length of leisure time are increasing, people are beginning to seek out new,
more exotic locations. For example, tourism in Alaska has become a vital industry, attracting almost
1.1 million people per year. Visitors not only come to view the landscape features, such as its coasts,
glaciers and mountains, but also to see its huge variety of wild life (ranging from Brown bears to sea
lions) and for fishing (especially salmon). Such levels of tourism have increased economic
development as tourists themselves bring money into the state as well as foreign currency. Tourism is
constantly increasing and being developed as the government want to diversify employment
opportunities in order to increase the rate of economic growth.
Antarctica has similar reasons for economic development, however, on a much smaller scale due to its
uninhabitable climate and landscape. The tourism industry is

Education And Social Economic Reward
We have all heard the expression that education is the key to success. . It makes sense, right? The
more education you have, the more successful you will be. In some ways that is true. The education
we get prepares us for our future and our future outcomes. After all, there is a direct correlation
between education and social economic reward and that people with high education usually live
happier, healthier, and wealthier lives. Those individuals who obtain higher education and the skills
that they learn will later lead the individual to work in high status and high paying jobs. We assume
that they make an astonishing amount of money and everyone lives happily ever after right? In our
world today the American Dream is lost, is just that, a dream. We are taught that if you play by the
rules, work hard, apply yourself and do well in school and that will open doors for you, and you will
be successful and all that other crap we are told in school , TV, news, radio and practically everywhere
else. Although everyone deserves the right to education and the key to success the truth of the matter
is that education inequalities exist and not everyone is getting the same level of education or the same
opportunities either. The group in America that obtains the best education is the upper class while the
lower class students are left with lower odds of education.
One major roadblock in your dreams for success and education is what sociologists know as the
conflict theory. Karl

Throughout the history of witchcraft it has been hard to establish if any of these accusations on
‘witches were actually true due to lack of records and proof, although it now seems certain that the
vast majority of women incited were innocent. In the book The Bewitching of Anne Gunter we can see
how these allegations can be completely fabricated for personal gain and revenge.
The British Isles, was a tense and troubled time in the late 1500 s/early 1600 s where the book is set.

The Gregory family later tried to get Gunter charged with manslaughter, they failed but Gunter never
forgave their attempt.
A few years later in the summer of 1604 when Anne collapsed with what all believed to be an attack
of the mother (hysteria), Brian Gunter saw his chance to get revenge on the Gregory s and discredit
them.
At first Anne claims she didn t attribute this sickness to witchcraft in anyway. It was only later that
year in October when the illness came back; that she maintains her father and the neighbours
concocted the bewitchment with the aim of blaming Elizabeth Gregory. If we look for motive, Brian
bringing the Gregory family into disrepute in this manner would be a fitting form of revenge.
Throughout the supposed bewitching, Anne feigned fits and trances, saw familiars, vomited pins,
showed psychic powers and made it so her clothes unlaced themselves during fits. All of this was to
convince witnesses of her ‘bewitching , in order to further support this her father would give her
potions to drink. One to induce vomiting and fits, and another to enable her to suffer pain and not feel
it. In the court case Anne testified that it was the neighbour Alice Kirfoote who would stick pins into
her body, to show the numbness.
During the various visits to the Gunter house to observe Anne s behaviour, it is believed that one
visitor gave Brian Gunter a lengthy article entitled The most strange and admirable discoverie of the

Despite this independence, there have been times when the government felt it necessary to infringe

While it may seem contrary to their practices, Heaven s Gate believers do not promote suicide in its
normal connotation. Rather, they consider suicide transitioning into the next level when it is being
offered. Prior to the mass suicide of 1997, Heaven s Gate members thought that a UFO would pick
them up from Earth and bring them to the next level. After years of waiting for the UFO s coming and
many false alarms, many Heaven s Gate followers felt called to abandon their vehicles or bodies, in
hopes of freeing the spirit into the next level as was exemplified in the ritual suicide in 1997.
Additionally, there was also a large communal component to Heaven s Gate. Members lived together
and traveled together and members all had a platonic partner. With this platonic partner, Friction was
practiced. Friction was where two individuals would share deep, personal issues that were meant to be
uncomfortable so the two individuals could truly bond on a deeper level. Additionally, there was a
group of individuals within Heaven s Gate who were called the Away Team and held the position of
leading members in The Process. The Process, one of the most central principles of Heaven s Gate, is
the journey to renounce all aforementioned personal attachments to the Earth so that one may be
prepared to exit this level, such as the abstinence from sex and name changes.

Demand Curve, Supply Curve Equilibrium. The Demand Curve
Demand Curve, Supply Curve Equilibrium
The demand curve can be shown in a graph and it reflects the relationship between the price and
amount of a commodity that people are able and willing to buy at a set price. The demand curve slopes
downward because are more prone to buying a good as the price declines. For example, coffee
drinkers may be willing to buy more cups of Starbucks coffee if a medium cup of regular coffee sells
for $1.49 versus $2.10. Instead of buying one cup a day they may buy 2 or 3 cups a day. Lower prices
increase the demand for higher quantities (Hill, n.d.). In many cases, the supply curve slopes upward
from left to right, because the price of product and quantity supplied are correlated. Demand and
supply curves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the government adopts a price control, there is no longer an equilibrium price determined by
supply and demand. When government set price ceilings or price floors, they disrupt the normal
direction of distributing available resources (Mankiw, 2015). A good example is when the government
changes the minimum wage laws to increase the hourly rate in hopes of helping the poor, and this also
results in others being unemployed. Since the companies would not have to pay more to produce the
same quantity, they are forced to lay off some of their employees. The government has an influence on
supply and demand by controlling the prices of certain goods and regulations in certain industries. The
government can impose taxes on goods and services to raise revenue that may be used to subsidize
projects and government funded programs. When taxes are imposed on goods and services, the
government determines tax incidence, meaning who will pay taxes among those partaking in the
market economy. Whether the levied tax is paid by the seller or the buyer, it affects both directly and
indirectly (Hill, n.d.). For example, let s say that Starbuck s paid a tax on the import of whole coffee
beans. Although the tax would be imposed on Starbucks the cost would be passed on to consumers of

Disadvantages In my life, disadvantages have been a setback in my path to success. My advantages
have not always overruled them. The worst part of my disadvantages is that I have no control over
them. As I continue to live life, I struggle to overcome my disadvantages and to shine bright. My
biggest disadvantage would be my race. Being an African American in the United States has always
been seen as a negative. From the moment my ancestors were brought to the United States, they were
forced to adjust to European customs. They were slaves, forced to do labor and were considered
property of the white man. Although slavery was abolished, discrimination occurred. Many African
American activist fought and died for African Americans rights. There would only be nuance, but
today things are going downhill again.
Today, the stereotypes of African Americans are put upon me. I am often judged due to my race. I
have been treated intellectually inferior multiple times. People often assume me to be living in poverty
and fatherless. Sometimes, people are suspicious of me due to media and newscasts displaying African
Americans as criminals and dangerous. Due to my color, people even believe silly things like me
having a love for watermelon, grape soda and fried chicken.
Although, none of those things are true about me. As I mentioned, I have a strong sense of analytical
intelligence. I also have an active father in my life who goes

The And The Little Difference Within The 20th Century
Migration has always been a controversial theme since the early twentieth century not only because of
it s complex historical development, but also it is related to and can be influenced by various social
issues such as social status, gender, and society s attitude towards immigrants. The aim of this essay is
to argue the how the similarities and the little difference within them of the characters in literature
play the role in theme of migration. The first similarity is that Antonia and Janie have a same special
identity besides their nationalities immigrants. Both two articles portray their youth life, as
immigrants, in America. They were depreciated because they are immigrants instead of native
Americans. In other words, their youth experience reflects the general Americans attitude towards
immigrants at the beginning of The Great Immigration. When Antonia talks to Jim about how her

Examples Of Dido In The Aeneid
A prime example of a relationship that holds the stability of a society on its shoulders in The Aeneid is
between Dido (Queen of Carthage) and the Carthaginian people. We first encounter Dido in Book
One, when Aeneas and Achates are wandering through Carthage, shrouded by cloud. Virgil describes,
Dido walked happily with the throng around her, intent on hastening the work for her future realm,
telling us that as a Queen, she devoted to her city and loved by her subjects. This description of Dido
walking around Carthage starkly contrasts with Virgil s passage in Book four describing her walking
through the city, after Dido s heart has been inflamed by cupid s arrow with passion for Aeneas. Virgil
writes, Dido as on fire with love and wandering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was seen as an uncontrollable sickness; a good Roman woman would take a pre approved,
appropriate husband not a man she was in love with. It is for this reason we can begin to understand
Virgil s viewpoint on the situation. In her attempt to help Aeneas, Venus inadvertently cuts all ties
Dido had with her people. Venus weapon of choice: love. Once the graceful, level headed queen was
infected by cupid s arrow, she became irrational and irresponsible with only Aeneas in mind, breaking
the relationship she had with her subjects. Dido laments, Because of (Aeneas) I have lost all self
respect and my good name, my only hope of reaching the stars, an example of the inner conflict
caused by a breakdown in relationship. Once compared to the exceptionally beautiful Diana, Virgil s
last description of Dido before her suicide is as follows; Her eyes were reddening and rolling... and
she was pale with the pallor of imminent death. This character breakdown provides the audience with
excellent evidence of how love (due to the interference from the gods) ruined Dido, and subsequently
the strong relationship she had once fostered with her

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Research Paper
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow became one of the most beloved poets because of his exceptional
writing skills and has largely impacted America today in many ways. The way in which he presented
his style within his writings is unique and remarkable, and the reason why he is widely popular. Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow was one of America s most prolific poets of his time, and helped shape
American character through his manipulation of the English language. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
was born on February 27, 1807 in Portland, Maine to Stephen Longfellow and Zilpah Wadsworth
(Gartner). Longfellow was born into a wealthy family of lawyers and was sent to school at the young
age of three, preparing him and his brothers for college. ( Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ). By the time
he had turned six, he could read and write exceptionally well compared to other children. His ... Show

Two of these issues include the concept of life as well as youth.
One of Longfellow s famous poems, A Psalm of Life, includes many distinctive literary devices that
he consistently used throughout his works. One device, rhythm, is Longfellow s signature throughout
all of these poems. In A Psalm of Life, the rhyme scheme is presented as a simple ABAB. This can be
seen in phrases such as, Tell me not in mournful numbers...for the soul is dead that slumbers. ( A
Psalm of Life ). Rhyming is a prominent literary device throughout his poems as he did write lyric
poems which focused on emotions and had songlike qualities.
The legacy and influence of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was not short lived. In fact, many English
teachers teach on his poetry today because they believe it is easier to understand, and more effective at
preparing students for understanding complex poetry. Longfellow is also known for the various
catchphrases we use today, such as, footprints on the sands of time

The Valve Academic Research Consortium
TECHNICAL COMPLICATIONS OF TAVR The Valve Academic Research Consortium (VARC) is
an organization that overlooks the TAVR trials and has met twice in San Francisco and Amsterdam
and proposed a standardized endpoints for the TAVR clinical trials.58,59 The purpose was to
standardize post operative complications of TAVR such as myocardial infarction, stroke, bleeding
complications, acute kidney injury, vascular complications, prosthetic valve performance, other
complications related to prosthetic valve, and mortality. Other post operative complications noted with
TAVR are malpositioning, valve migration or embolization, conversion to open surgery and need for
pacemaker implantation.60 VARC also proposed some clinical benefit endpoints: exercise
performance, assessment of New York Heart Association ( NYHA) functional status, and various
quality of life and frailty questionnaires. VARC recommended using CPK MB as a periprocedural
marker for myocardial infarction and required 20% increase with the second sample with elevation of
a minimum of 10 times the upper limit of normal.
Cerebral Embolism
TAVR is associated with the highest stroke rates among percutaneous cardiac interventions, ranging
between 4 to 5% in the two large randomized clinical trials which compared TAVR and SAVR in high
risk patients.21,27 Stroke remains one of the most dreaded complications in patients undergoing
TAVR. Although neurological complications after TAVR were found to be significantly higher as

The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis
Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in 1583. He
lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and technology,
while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci,
Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the world at the time.
Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese characters and images that he
believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional tool to remember what that took
place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning memories to a character or image, so
when you think of the image, you can remember the memories associated with it. Spence then breaks
up the chapters separately by each image or character and talks about the history and story from Ricci
s life associated with the image or character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the
novel, though a summary of the themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence
largely discusses the three main religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and
then draws parallels with the three largest religions in China at the time, Confucianism, Buddhism,
and Daoism. However, these examples are not the only instances where a trio of three religions and
belief systems are present. At the end of the Warring States period in China, around 350 BCE, China

Research of Color Theory Essay
Research of Color Theory
Color fills our world with beauty. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the bright red
and golden yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants and the brilliantly
colored arch of a rainbow. We also use color in various ways to add pleasure and interest to our lives.
For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and decorate their homes with
colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. By their selection and arrangement of colors,
artists try to make their paintings more realistic or expressive.
Color serves as a means of communication. In sports, different colored uniforms show which team the

Light is a form of energy that behaves in some ways like waves. Light waves have a range of
wavelengths. A wavelength is the distance between any point on one wave and the corresponding
point on the next wave. Different wavelengths of light appear to us as different colors. Light that
contains all wavelengths in the same proportions as sunlight appears white. See LIGHT.
When a beam of sunlight passes through a specially shaped glass object called a prism, the rays of
different wavelengths are bent at different angles. The bending breaks up the sunlight into a beautiful
band of colors. This band contains all the colors of the rainbow and is called the visible spectrum. At
one end of the spectrum, the light appears as violet. It consists of the shortest wavelengths of light that
we can see. Farther along the spectrum, the light has increasingly longer wavelengths. It appears as
blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, each shading into its neighboring colors in the spectrum. The
longest wavelengths of light that we can see appear deep red in color. Some descriptions of the
spectrum also mention the color indigo, which is closely related to blue, between violet and blue.
Light waves are a form of electromagnetic waves, which consist of patterns of electric and magnetic
energy. The visible spectrum is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum the

Analyzing Thorstein Veblen s The Theory of the Leisure Class
In 1899 Thorstein Veblen wrote The Theory of the Leisure Class: An Economic Study of Institutions.
In this work, Veblen presented critical thinking that pertains to people s habits and their related social
norms. He explores the way certain people disregard the divisions that exist within the social system,
while subsequently emulating certain aspects of the leisure class in an effort to present an image of
higher social status. He also presented the theory of conspicuous consumption, which refers to an
instance when a person can fulfill their needs by purchasing a product at a lower cost that is equal in
quality and function to its more expensive counterpart; however, said person chooses to buy the more

Luxury fashion items can be acquired via several different avenues, as well as at several different
price points in today s market. Previously, the only options consumers had for the acquisition of
luxury fashion goods was to purchase directly from the retail store; however, now there are an
enormous amount of resources for consumers to opt for a used product at a much lower price by
shopping on websites like eBay, or by purchasing from the growing amount of high end consignment
stores. Another option that luxury fashion consumers can easily utilize is to buy the item new and at a
cheaper price by shopping at outlet stores or discount department stores like Nordstrom Rack and T.J.
Maxx. Finally, these consumers have the option to borrow. Websites like BagBorrowOrSteal.com have
created hugely profitable businesses by making the latest luxury accessory available to be rented at a
cost that is a fraction of what the item would cost if purchased new from the retailer. These options
have granted a much larger array of people the opportunity to experience aspects of the luxury
lifestyle and the luxury image than ever before.

Significance of the Food and Ritual Objects Used at the Festival of Passover
Pesach also known as Passover is observed for seven days, eight outside of Israel. Pesach celebrates
the freedom for two hundred years of Egyptian slavery.
The most important part of the festival is the Sedar meal. This meal takes place, in Jewish homes on
the first night of Pesach. This meal includes a symbolic meaning and retells the story of the Israelites
escape from Egypt. Jews eat unleavened bread during this time. This is called matzah. Certain
preparations must be made for the Sedar meal and Passover. Passover starts by cleaning the house of
all chametz (leaven). This is because they believe that God commanded ... Show more content on

The Shank bone is to symbolise the Paschal lamb offered as the Passover sacrifice in biblical times. In
some communities, it is common to use a chicken neck in place of the shank bone. Vegetarian
households often use beets for the shank bone on the Seder plate. The red beets symbolize the blood of
the Paschal lamb, which was used to mark the lintel and doorposts of the houses during the first
Passover (Exodus 12:22). Any house with sign of blood was safe from the lat plague. The egg is to
symbolise a new life. The egg is usually hard boiled and then roasted and grilled. The egg also
represents how a dead feature becomes a new life, so in this case a chick. Jews believe that this is
joyful as it relates to them. Jews recite the Hallel during this time. Marror or bitter herbs are usually
freshly grated horseradish or horseradish paste. This brings tears to the eyes of the Jews, and
symbolises the sadness felt by the Jews. This reminds the Jews of slavery. Maror is used in the Seder
because of the commandment (in Numbers 9:11) to eat the paschal lamb with unleavened bread and
bitter herbs. Lettuce is also eaten in Pesach. This symbolises how first lettuce tastes nice at the
beginning and bitter at the end. This shows how the pharaoh welcomed them to Egypt, and later used
them as slaves. Charoset is a mixture of apples, nuts and spices. This symbolises all

It s The American Way Essay
Most people are always striving to better themselves. It s the American Way . For proof, check the
sales figures on the number of self improvement books sold each year. This is not a pitch for you to
jump in and start selling these kinds of books, but it is a indication of people s awareness that in order
to better themselves, they have to continue improving their personal selling ab abilities.
To excel in any selling situation, you must have confidence, and confidence comes, first and foremost,
from knowledge. You have to know and understand yourself and your goals. You have to recognize
and accept your weaknesses as well as your special talents. This requires a kind of personal honesty
that not everyone is capable of exercising.
In addition to knowing yourself, you must continue learning about people. Just as with yourself, you
must be caring, forgiving and laudatory with others. In any sales effort, you must accept other people
as they are, not as you would like for them to be. One of the most common faults of sales people is
impatience when the prospective customer is slow to understand or make a decision. The successful
salesperson handles these situations the same as he would if he were asking a girl for a date, or even
applying for a new job.
Learning your product, making a clear presentation to qualified prospects, and closing more sales will
take a lot less time once you know your own capabilities and failings, and understand and care about

Puerto City Market History
Ponce City Market is a new development including retail, residential and commercial space that
repurposes the historic Sears Roebuck and Company building in the Old Fourth Ward district of
Atlanta.
The site has been in public use at least back to the 1860 s when it was a popular day trip for Atlantans
who wished to visit Ponce de Leon Springs for their reputed health benefits. The springs on the site
were named by Atlanta physician, Dr. Henry L. Wilson, for Juan Ponce de Leon, of Fountain of Youth
fame, and it is from these springs, rather than the Spanish explorer, that Ponce de Leon Avenue takes
its name. Over time additional attractions were built at the site to capitalize on the popularity of the
springs and in 1903 the construction of a true amusement park was begun. Ponce de Leon Park
remained a local attraction through the early 1920 s.
In 1924, the park now closed, Sears Roebuck and Company chose the site for their Southeastern
headquarters and began work on the current structure, completing the first phase in 1926. The building
is one of the largest in the South and is located on a sixteen acre site facing Ponce de Leon Avenue.
Sears closed their retail store on the site after more than fifty years but maintained the building as a
regional office until 1987.

Anemone Descriptive Writing
The air, heavy with the morning fog, parts around the three figures like still water around a hull.
Crunching rocks and barnacles under boots disrupt the thick silence of the morning, the sharp sound

The more time I spent around theater, the more I realized that, at it s heart, theater is not about skill. It
is not about how well you act or if you can do a killer French accent. At it s heart, theater is a state of
being. It is about accepting everyone and giving them a place to call home. It is about jamming out
backstage to every musical number you aren t in. It is about being there for your cast members in their
times of need, no matter how small the problem might seem. It is about shared laughs and weird faces.
It is about opening your heart to strangers and finding yourself with a family. That is the spirit of
theater.
At the end of the day, I am still that anemone, only now, I see life a little differently, through theater
colored glasses if you will. There are still those curious fingers but now they are not so scary. Theater
taught me, as backwards as it may sound, to not be afraid of my fears. It taught me that I should not be

Cultural Influences On Bullying
There are many influences that play their parts within Bullying that many of us are not always aware
of. Social roles, cultural beliefs and biases, social inequality, and even excising social conditions fall
within social issues of Bullying. For starters, a victim and Bullies are considered the social roles of
Bullying. The victim often describes the person being bullied as opposed to the bully is the person
initiating bullying.
When a person is initiating bullying, it often refers to verbal or physical harassment such as fighting,
calling names and even black mailing. In fact, researchers and bloggers have mentioned labeling kids,
as victims and Bullies does not help discard the situation. It is known to cause children to identify
themselves as victims and bullies and patterns may be repeated. Nonetheless, although social roles

Divine Law And Ismene By SophoclesAntigone

Mrs. Sicotte
English II
21 November 2017 Antigone Test
Sophocles Antigone sheds light on some questions some of these include, as question one says, human
laws versus divine laws, and loyalty to the family versus loyalty to the state. Sophocles writes about
how one should always follow divine laws. He does this through the character of Antigone, one of
Oedipus children. Antigone says that she must act as per the religious law, the law of higher God.
Ismene, her sister and another child of Oedipus declares that she cannot go against the law of the
citizens. Antigone, knowing full well the consequences of defying Creon, acts on her principles as she

By corruption few men thrive, and many come to mischief (Sophocles 12). The sentinel responds to
this with the accusation that Creon is too blinded to realize that it was not him, Plague on it! Tis hard,
a man should be suspicious, And with a false suspicion! (Sophocles 13). However, in the play he does
make some good decisions, he is seen as an effective leader where he believes in order and laws and
punishment for breaking those laws. He mostly believes in his laws having more authority than the
God s laws and talks about how anarchy is the true downforce of a nation.
In question six it is asked if Antigone or Creon is the tragic hero. In the play of Antigone, Creon is the
tragic hero. Sophocles at first portrays Creon as a just leader. He has good, rational reasons for his
laws and punishments. By the end of the play Creon s hubris, has taken over him, which leads to his
demise. He does not realize how bad his hubris has interfered with his dealing of problems until
Teiresias s prophecy, Therefore the Gods accept not of us now Solemn peace offering or burnt
sacrifice, Nor bird trills out a happy boding note, Gorged with the fatness of a slain man s blood
(Sophocles 38). By then it is too late. This is the path of a tragic character. Creon s pride and hubris
got the better of himself when he thought himself higher than the Gods. Creon finally realizes that

  • 2. Essay on Adults with Learning Disabilities Adults with Learning Disabilities The field has not quite reached consensus on definitions of LD, and there are professionals as well as members of the public who do not understand them or believe they exist. For example, in a Roper (1995) survey of 1,200 adults, 85% associated LD with mental retardation 66% with deafness, and 60% with blindness. In Rocco s (1997) research, faculty questioned the existence of certain conditions or if they existed, the appropriateness of classifying the condition as a disability (p. 158). However, most definitions describe learning disabilities as a group of disorders that affect the ability to acquire and use listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or math skills (Gerber and Reiff 1994; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason for the variance is misidentification. African Americans and Hispanics are often inappropriately diagnosed with LD, such as speakers of African American English whose language may be considered substandard or deficient by assessors (Gregg et al. 1996). There is also the unresolved question yet persistent belief that one half of all adults with low literacy skills in fact have learning disabilities (Gerber and Reiff 1994, p. 121). Successful Adjustment for Adults with LD Adults with LD may face challenges in several areas of life, including education, employment, daily routines, and social interactions. However, many are able to make successful life adjustments. Research has recently been directed toward learning what factors help these adults succeed. Most of these studies used such measures of success as educational attainment, income, job level, and job and life satisfaction. Success was influenced by educational experiences and personal characteristics/ background. Educational factors included the following: high school completion; quality of elementary secondary education; quality of postsecondary education, training, and services; and a shift from a remedial to a compensatory approach in special education (Gerber and Reiff 1994). Successful college students with LD ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ways in which Lifelong Learning can Contribute towards the... Introduction: In this essay, ways in which lifelong learning can contribute towards the new global culture and new knowledge society, facts about lifelong learning and how the educator deals with the learners will be discussed. What is learning? Learning is defined as obtaining a new ability or knowledge. For example: leaning to ride a bike, learning to walk, learning a new language, and so on. What is lifelong learning? According to the English dictionary, lifelong learning is the use of both formal and informal learning opportunities throughout people s lives in order to foster the continuous development and improvement of the knowledge and skills needed for employment and personal fulfilment. This means that lifelong learning is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more disciplinary way to handle a disruptive student would be to keep a list of all the student s transgressions and then discuss these transgressions with their parents. This forms a dialogue with the parents so that they can find out what the reason is for their child s disruptive behaviour and therefore being able to come up with a solution to this issue. You have to get to the roots of why each individual is acting in such a way. Usually they are searching for attention must find a way to make sure the student can get attention for positive behaviour. Poor behaviour should get either no attention or the kind of attention that is so negative the student won t want it. Brad, Compton, CA Dealing with exceptional learners (outstanding): An exceptional learner is defined as a student with both gifts and a learning disability. This means that the learner is either handicapped, autistic, retarded, or has some other kind of disability that requires them to be treated and taught differently. A school or organization is required by the law to make an effort to maintain equality in educational opportunities and admission. Legislation in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 forbids discrimination on the basis of physical/sensory handicap or mental retardation. When dealing with exceptional learners, it is imperative that the lecturer has the appropriate educational course that would suit an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Duchess Figurative Language Through the use of figurative language, imagery, and symbolism Robert Browning is able to portray his poem about the Duke in the light he wants. The several literary devices used in figurative language aid in he conversational flow, while the imagery gives you the sense of what emotion is going at the time, and symbolism showing the underlying use for the subjects mentioned throughout the poem. The several literary devices most predominantly used in the poem are assonance and alliteration. For example, the depth and passion of its earnest glance... is an example of assonance used in the poem as well as And seemed as they would ask me, if they durst. To make a clearer depiction of the character of the Duke and his opinion and treatment of his late wife, Browning effectively made use of Renaissance images. The most apparent symbol used is the portrait of the late Duchess, painted on the wall by artist Frà Pandolf. The poem only tells the reader that the painting captures the Duchess bright personality and her love for life a depiction that has distressed the Duke when her wife was still alive. But the painting itself and how it came to be tells us more about the Duke s personality. The painting portrayed and captured the duchess in a nice light, however, the duke chooses who can see it as he stated, none puts by the curtain I have drawn for you, but I... clearly the duke only wants to show a select few of people how he wants his last duchess to be remembered. Also, he also mentions a bronze statue of Neptune towards the end of the poem where he speaks of himself like the god of the sea and as you read further on the reader will notice the duke likes to present himself as someone in power. The duke turned things into valuable pieces in order to show he is dominant and powerful, just like how he personified the painting of his late wife and how he described the bronze ... • 5. Charles Eames Psychology Although I am familiar with the Eames name and especially their contributions to chair design, I admittedly did not know the Eames were so engrained in American history beyond their contributions to the chair. The one thing that really stands out to me as the main reason for their success is specifically Charles Eames insatiable desire to learn, and further, the incorporation of his artistic and architectural visions to produce novel ideas and projects to epitomize Gardner s great man/woman definition of creativity. It would be naïve to dismiss the idea that revenue was also most likely a motivating factor, but the revenue as depicted in the documentary was specifically a means to financial ends; a source of income for truly revolutionary work. I think ultimately, no matter the amount of revenue, unless someone is inherently motivated, Gardner s great man/woman definition cannot be fulfilled due to the almost magical power that innate motivation, interest, drive, and work ethic have on individuals who are heralded in history ... From both of the accounts, it seemed that regardless of what was going on around them, they both had a continuous, unrelenting thought process regarding things they were passionate about. As Einstein eloquently stated, I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. In my opinion, although Einstein understated his legendary scientific acumen (the same acumen that makes his name synonymous with genius), the quote reinforces the idea that Einstein s curiosity was most instrumental in his success. It would make sense, considering both are posthumously esteemed members of academia for their theories and providing revolutionary food for thought. • 6. Forensic Pathologists And Autopsies The Importance of Forensic Pathologists and Autopsies Death becomes a part of every single person s life at some point in time, whether it is in the form of a close relative, parent, spouse, or even one s own death. While it is not the most pleasant subject, death is something that needs to be addressed to prepare those who will have to manage it when the time comes. Depending on the situation at hand, certain circumstances of demise may not be completely understood, and in these cases, autopsies can provide families with closure by giving them answers needed to clarify any questions that may have come along with the loss of their loved one ( American Autopsy Services , np). Having an answer regarding a loved one s death in cases of uncertainty is psychologically beneficial to the family members, especially if they are concerned that the death had occurred because of something they did. If there were any genetic disorders that led to the death, those can be clarified and relayed to the family as well. Clinicians and hospitals benefit from autopsies because they provide reassurance of the diagnoses, treatments and the appropriateness of the medical care received. Society experiences the benefits of autopsies through the evaluation of diagnostic tests, drugs, and diagnostic techniques along with advanced medical knowledge of new diseases as well as environmental, occupational, and existing diseases. • 7. Dream Interpretation Research Paper Dream interpretation is an old tradition that dates back at least as far as Biblical times. Perhaps the most famous instance of dream interpretation is where the Pharaoh tells David his dreams about seven skinny sheep eating seven fat sheep and seven skinny ears of corn eating seven fat ears of corn. David interpreted this to mean seven years of bumper crops followed by seven years of poor crops. With proper planning, this allowed the Pharaoh to protect his people from potential famine during the coming lean years. Dreams can be a means to tap into subconscious thought processes and tell us what we know that we don t even consciously realize that we know. But we are also more psychically sensitive when we sleep. So our dreams can contain extra sensory information that is unavailable to most people when they are awake. Most premonitions of the future actually occur in dream form, not in waking visions. The vast majority of the time, dreams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many paths are taken to find the value of it, but when found, it includes the decisions of choosing what s valuable. Ernest Hemingway Hills like White Elephants is a short story that reveals people s unseen appreciation for life. As suggested by the title this literary story fits into sub genre realistic fiction, showing people s different approaches for appreciation. Taking place in 1927, this story focuses on a young couple who face a big decision in their relationship. On their trip towards Madrid, they stop at a junction to pause and reflect on their choices. The Consequences of the Economic Development of Polar and Sub Polar Regions Although indigenous populations established themselves centuries ago, polar and sub polar regions of the Arctic and Antarctica have only fairly recently begun to develop. Originally classified as remote regions in the world, where the only activities, which took place, were small scale fishing and hunting by locals in order to survive, they have become sources of great economic development and prosperity. In 1968, the great quantities of oil and gas discovered beneath Alaska s North Slope, overlooking Prudhoe Bay, subsequently led to the construction of the Trans Alaska pipeline to Valdez in 1974. This increased communication links and trade links and therefore brought in vast amounts of money for the economy and until 1990, oil and natural gas still provided 85% of Alaska s gross state product. As personal wealth and length of leisure time are increasing, people are beginning to seek out new, more exotic locations. For example, tourism in Alaska has become a vital industry, attracting almost 1.1 million people per year. Visitors not only come to view the landscape features, such as its coasts, glaciers and mountains, but also to see its huge variety of wild life (ranging from Brown bears to sea lions) and for fishing (especially salmon). Such levels of tourism have increased economic development as tourists themselves bring money into the state as well as foreign currency. • 11. Education And Social Economic Reward We have all heard the expression that education is the key to success. . It makes sense, right? The more education you have, the more successful you will be. In some ways that is true. The education we get prepares us for our future and our future outcomes. After all, there is a direct correlation between education and social economic reward and that people with high education usually live happier, healthier, and wealthier lives. Those individuals who obtain higher education and the skills that they learn will later lead the individual to work in high status and high paying jobs. We assume that they make an astonishing amount of money and everyone lives happily ever after right? In our world today the American Dream is lost, is just that, a dream. We are taught that if you play by the rules, work hard, apply yourself and do well in school and that will open doors for you, and you will be successful and all that other crap we are told in school , TV, news, radio and practically everywhere else. Although everyone deserves the right to education and the key to success the truth of the matter is that education inequalities exist and not everyone is getting the same level of education or the same opportunities either. The group in America that obtains the best education is the upper class while the lower class students are left with lower odds of education. If we look for motive, Brian bringing the Gregory family into disrepute in this manner would be a fitting form of revenge. All of this was to convince witnesses of her ‘bewitching , in order to further support this her father would give her potions to drink. After years of waiting for the UFO s coming and many false alarms, many Heaven s Gate followers felt called to abandon their vehicles or bodies, in hopes of freeing the spirit into the next level as was exemplified in the ritual suicide in 1997. Additionally, there was also a large communal component to Heaven s Gate. Members lived together and traveled together and members all had a platonic partner. With this platonic partner, Friction was practiced. Friction was where two individuals would share deep, personal issues that were meant to be uncomfortable so the two individuals could truly bond on a deeper level. In his novel, The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci, Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the world at the time. Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese characters and images that he believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional tool to remember what that took place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning memories to a character or image, so when you think of the image, you can remember the memories associated with it.
