Essay On College Stakeholders
The key stakeholders of education include traditional four year non profit universities/colleges and for
profit colleges, state and federal government funding agencies, students and parents, and employers of
students who graduate college. The main alignment between non profit universities/colleges and for
profit colleges revolve around their desire for an increase in student quality, increase in faculty quality,
increase in student population, increase in prestige, and thus consequently an increase in revenues. All
types of colleges are trying to increase their endowment by raising tuition charges, admitting more
students, hosting fundraisers, and asking for donation from their alumni. The main policy that colleges
use to increase their endowment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The companies give loans to students because of the high cost of tuition and in doing so, they also
charge a high interest rate. Students are then stuck in a difficult situation because they can either deny
the loan, thus denying their college education, or they can take the high interest loan, and be burdened
in debt, and receive their college education. Most students usually decide to take the loan because of
the policy of employers. Employers of students who graduate college align with non profit colleges,
for profit colleges, and government funding agencies with the idea of having a higher number of
students attending colleges. These employers want to hire people who are highly skilled in their
respective fields and want people who can apply their skills well in a corporate setting. These
employer institute policies such as requiring a minimum degree to apply for a job position and
offering internships to only college students, making it almost impossible for people who have not
attended college to obtain these

Hurricane Andrew Research Papers
The sound of the wind, that s what you never forget. The initial whisper. The growing mewing that
turns into a howl. Then they cry of glass shattering. The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana
Veciana Suarez, as she remembers one of the worst, fiercest, and most powerful storm to hit South
Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and
devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane
was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever
recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after
everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew.
As many know, hurricanes are considered to be among the most powerful forces in nature. A hurricane
is a powerful storm system that produces intense winds and heavy rainfall. Hurricanes form over
warm ocean water during warm months such as June, July, and August which is known as the ... Show

manner. As she continued to speak, she talked about how they prepared for Hurricane Andrew. We
went out and brought cold cuts, flashlights, candles, we even tied down everything on our back porch
and whatever we could not tie down, went in our shed. I thought we prepared more than enough, but
we didn t. We prepared just enough. She explained how the storm was furious, how it was very
powerful and dangerous. When I asked Mrs. Brown was there any damage done to her house, she said
yes. Our big avocado tree that has been there for almost 25 years, fell and hit our back porch and or

Home Remodeling Project
A home remodeling project can be an exciting yet frightening time. We ve all heard complete horror
stories about contractors who didn t finish the job, robbed the homeowner of thousands of dollars or
projects that ended up costing way more than the contractor estimated. Hiring a remodeling contractor
doesn t have to be a horror story if you plan before you start your search and carefully research and
interview contractors before settling on the one who will complete your job. Know What You Want
Before researching contractors, know what you want done to your home. You don t want the
contractor to influence your choices based on their own set of ideas. Research the material choices that
would be best for your space, and know the costs. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything should be documented in the contract. If there are changes to be made on either side, make
sure the contract reflects those changes including any new costs. Down Payment Contractors require a
down pyament before they ll start work on the home. Often, the down payment will pay for starting
materials. Be wary of a contractor who asks for half of the entire budget up front. You don t want to be
paying for the finishes on the contractor s last project. In some states, there s a legal limit to the
amount the contractor can ask for, but a safe amount is between 10 and 25 percent of the entire job.
Proper Permits Less than reputable companies might try to persuade you that you don t need permits.
Almost all home remodeling projects will need permits and inspections. When it s time to sell your
home, work done without a permit can cause a headache. The contractor s job is to obtain any permits
for work about to be done. You ll regret not obtaining the proper permits. It s also a way to judge the

Xerox Xerox was originally founded in 1906 as the Haloid Company, which later became Haloid
Xerox in 1958 and finally Xerox Corporation in 1961. Xerox currently has 136,000 employees in 160
countries (www.xerox.com/about xerox, 2011). With over 130,000 employees, human resources is
vitally important to the corporation. This paper will examine how human resource professionals can
ensure that top organizational leaders encourage managers and employees to follow laws and

addition, the changes that Xerox made to become a more attractive employer for women and
minorities will be identified. Finally, there will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A compilation of these actions allowed Xerox to increase its profitability. An organization s best
advertisement is its employees. When one is proud of where they work and their company values, they
will share that information with family, friends and anyone who will listen about the great and diverse
organization they work for. This would peak the interest of others who would also like to bring their
skills and competencies to Xerox. Next, customers are more likely to purchase products and services
from people who look like them. So to have a diverse workforce would mean that people from all
walks of life and nationalities will patron your company. Lastly, Xerox was proactive in its attitudes
towards diversity and developed programs and initiatives to address it. By promoting an inclusive
environment they took steps to alleviate and/or avoid potential complaints and lawsuits related to
discrimination in the workplace. All of these action plans added value to the organization.

The Crucible Tone
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, revolves around the Salem witch trials of the 15th century. Much of
what precedes the play portion of the novel is dedicated to establishing the background of the novel.
This passage, in specific, sets the tone of the novel as it describes the ideology of the witch hunts, and
how they came into effect. The passage summarizes the fundamental ideas of the witch hunts as a
paradox stating, The witch hunt was a perverse manifestation of the panic which set among the classes
when the balance began to turn toward greater individual freedom (Miller 11). These words are an
important part of the novel because it lays out a groundwork which the rest of the ideas and concepts
that are brought up in the novel will build themselves upon. Simply put, it sets the tone for the rest of
the novel. It describes the fears that the characters have, and what conflicts they will undergo. For
instance, signs of mob mentality can be gleamed from the passage. This can be seen when it says,
balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom (Miller 11).

The factors that contribute to one s attitude, Affects emotions, Behaviors actions, Cognitions thoughts,
the ABC s of attitude (Carter amp; Seifert, 2016, Chapter 16). When our emotions, actions and
thoughts are not working together it can be difficult. Finding out more about our behavior will help us
learn more about our attitude. The self perception theory says that we are not fully aware of our
attitudes. Most of the time with infer our attitudes based on our behavior. It is the opposite in fact, our
behavior affects our attitude. We can change our behavior and the result will be a change in attitude.

An excellent example of instrumental aggression is when a child will hit another child, in order to get
the toy that the child was playing with. The other type of aggression is hostile aggression. Hostile
aggression is a desire to do harm to another, like a person bullying another individual. We are attracted
to people that are similar to us. What attracts us to people is not only physical characteristics, but also
a person competency, however if a person is over competent, we lose attraction towards them. We also
like people that are physically attractive but as the old saying goes looks can be deceiving. A good
looking person can sometimes have the worst attitude, and may not be the best company.
Groups play a huge role on a person s behavior. Once you are in a group you start to treat others
outside of the group differently. Although, belonging to a group can bring up someone s self esteem,
treating others differently can lead to prejudice and discrimination and that is not a good thing. Groups
can also affect your decision to help or to not help others.
Social Psychology plays an important role in life and in the workplace. At work you have to treat
everyone the same and not be prejudice towards them. Discrimination is also not permitted in the
workplace. Being able to control your own, as well as, others behavior and attitude is important. Also,
when working you have to be able to conform and obey.

Hamlet And Laertes By William Shakespeare
Hamlet and Laertes
William Shakespeare s Hamlet is one of his excellent tragedies which explores the difference between
themes such as love and revenge or the complexities of life and death. In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet
and Laertes show some comparisons and contrasts which give an abundance of interest to the play. In
fact, Hamlet and Laertes display impulsive reactions when angered; both have fathers killed, and both
are seeking revenge. Even so, both characters display a considerable likeness, which is trying to
protect the same person, Ophelia. It is important to realize that both loved her, but in different ways.
On the other hand, Hamlet had a lovely mother who was the Queen and Laertes never had a mother
figure in his life (Shmoop web).
One of those Hamlet s characteristics revealed in the play depicts him as an individual who was not
naturally vengeful, but he was loyal to his father. Therefore, he swore an oath to his father to seek
revenge. Also, Hamlet did not want to endanger his friends into the dangerous mission of seeking
revenge against the new King, so he urged his friends to shake hands and become part of it, swearing
in faith. He was not sure if the ghost was really his father rather than a deceitful demon (Hamlet
trailers). Therefore, he staged the Mousetrap to verify Claudius guilt. Hamlet built the plot of the play,
knowing that his uncle killed his father in cold blood. As a result, Hamlet s scorn of the new king
grows throughout the

Ronald Reagan Bibliography Essay
Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan came from humble beginnings. He was born on February 6, 1911 in the town of
Tampico, Illinois. His parents were Jack and Nelle. Jack Reagan was an unsuccessful salesman who
was also known as an alcoholic. His mother, Nelle Wilson Reagon was a devout farmwoman who
raised Ronald and his older brother, Neil, in the Disciples of Christ Church despite their father s
Catholicism. The family moved frequently, sometimes in response to new job opportunities,
sometimes after Jack had been fired because of his drinking. In 1920 they settled in Dixon, Illinois,
where Jack became the proprietor and part owner of a shoe store (Reeves 2). Ronald Reagan was an

Newsreels and magazine photos depicted Reagan coming home for leaves and visits. Reagan later
sometimes seemed actually to have believed the ruse. Even decades later, he liked to talk about
coming back from the war, like other veterans, eager to take up family life again (a life that in his case
had hardly been interrupted) (D Souza 11).
Reagan s postwar acting career never regained the momentum it had enjoyed in the early 1940s. He
had some occasional successes (among them The Hasty Heart in 1949), but he found himself working
more often now in minor roles or minor films. Jane Wyman s career, in the meantime, was flourishing,
and her absorption with it contributed to what were already growing tensions within the marriage. The
couple divorced in 1948 (Reagan 4).
As his career and his marriage languished, Reagan had begun to become active in politics. His first
vehicle was the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the film actors union. Reagan had been active in SAG
since his first months in Hollywood, and his involvement grew with his marriage to Wyman, who was
also an important figure in the organization. In 1946, he chaired a union strike committee and
demonstrated an energy and a toughness that his SAG

Having a spokesperson that is credible is most important because it is a composite of the other
characteristics. The Black Eyed Peas are a very popular band, which makes people more likely to

the same effect as a celebrity. The Black Eyed Peas are attractive and likeable to most people. Their
music is attractive to both young and older generations, which is something that is very hard to do.

products like sodas, cars, electronics, phones, fashion, and sports brands. However, country music
artists have a different target market so I believe that they would be best suited to be endorsed by
brands like trucks, guns and hunting gear. 3. If I were going to design a TV ad for the Black Eyed Peas
about an upcoming concert I would make sure to reach more than just one target market. The Black
Eyed Peas are a well known band and have been able to appeal to both young adults and older adults
but not elderly so it is important to create a commercial that will appeal to both as well. As far as the
message strategy, I would use affective message strategy because people already know who they are,
now they need to invoke their fans feelings and emotions to make them feel that they need to go to the
concert. The executional framework I d recommend would be fantasy because you want to be able to
create a commercial that makes them feel that they are actually there. To create this type of effective
ad it would be a good idea to show video from previous concerts then state the dates and locations of

Summary Of Let It Snow By David Sedaris
A Relationship Left in the Cold
Let It Snow by David Sedaris is a short story that magnifies the extent to which children might go in
order to grab the attention of their parents. It is full imaginative details that would help the reader
understand what it feels like to be a child. Sedaris starts with these imaginative details from the
beginning of the story to the end and this keeps the interest of the reader. After the reader begins to
read he/she might get the assumption that the story will be about a snow day, but it focuses on the hurt
and neglect in which Sedaris and his siblings experience from their drunken mother and absent father.
After being kicked out into the cold by their mother, the children are left to think about their
relationship with their parents while battling a cold weather. The writer begins to express his feelings
towards his parents, particularly his mother, by providing various details that keep the reader
emotionally invested in the story.
Sedaris reflects on his past, specifically an event that took place during his childhood days. Young
Sedaris and his siblings did not go to school due to bad and unpredicted weather. At that time, North
Carolina hadn t experienced a snow storm like this one before, and kids were excited and could not
wait to play with their friends in the snow. The reader figures out that this story does not focus on
snow but it centers the relationship that Sedaris and his siblings have with their mother. Sedaris clearly

Black Walnut Tree
The Black Walnut Tree
The relationship between the Tree and the family in the poem The Black Walnut Tree by Mary Oliver
is conveyed as harsh and difficult. If they choose to sell the tree then it s assured that the house will be
safe, however, they lose a part of their history. If they do not sell the tree, then they have a chance of
the tree destroying the house, but they are struggling to even pay the mortgage and cannot afford any
more expenses. By the selected spacing of the poem, figurative language, and lyric this relationship
dilemma is conveyed.
By the use of free verse, Oliver is able to space the poem to have greater effect on the reader as well as
to strengthen the meaning of the relationship and dilemma between the family and tree. For instance,
lines 9 to 11, each line is spaced so that is sticks in the mind. No information is lost, meaning, that it is
easier and more relative to see where the argument is going for the reader. Throughout, the poem there
are also sections such as lines 16 to19 that personally involves the reader, because it draws in on

language is lines 34 to 35 Whip crack . By doing so, mortgage is brought in once more as an even

Australian Television Industry
Good morning Ms Angrisano and my fellow students. Today I will be speaking to you about the
changing nature of the Australian television industry from 1950 s to 2010. Television was introduced
in Australia around 1956. It was popular to the extent that within a few years it was the main source of
entertainment. This effected the way Australians live. They began staying at home more rather than
going to the movies or going to play sports. America played a big part on this as it was our main
influence. Australia enjoyed their shows, fashion, values and latest trends. Just like America
influencing Australia, Australia also impacted on countries worldwide. Australia was no longer an
isolated island, Television has joined a gap between Australia and other countries this was done

Rennaissance and Mannerist Essay
The art work from the 1400 s to the 1600 s showed a drastic change after 1520 when Mannerism was
brought about. After a while the Mannerist style was known to not be such a good thing. People saw
the paintings as not classical and distorted or out of proportion. Mannerism seemed to coincide with a
period of political and religious unrest which lead to and age of anxiety and crisis where the clarity
and confidence of the High Renaissance was lost (Benton and DiYanni 37 38). Leonardo da Vinci,
Raphael, and Parmigianino show some differences in Renaissance and Mannerism with their works of
art of the Madonna.

The column in the background on the right symbolizes the torture of Jesus, because he was bound to a

take up room where there was not much detail with out him.
After discussing both Renaissance paintings and Mannerist paintings it goes to show that during the
Renaissance times the artist cared more about the realistic details that were put into the art. Unlike in
Parmigianino s painting of the Madonna she gives her an unrealistically long neck and fingers. During
the Renaissance it was all about the Church and representing it, once the sack of Rome happened in
1527 that is when everything went down hill and people began to paint in the distorted, uneven
manner of Mannerism. In both the Madonna of the Rocks and the Madonna of the Meadows there is a
sense of peace for them both being out in nature where everything is pure. Also they both seem
happier; the expressions on the faces seem less concerned as in Parmigianino s.

Orca Whales in Captivity
If you love something, set it free. This is a quote that has circulated for years, and nowhere else is it
more applicable than in SeaWorld s parks. Trainers and corporate alike claim a deep love for the
animals they keep captive, but in recent years, the topic of holding orca whales in captivity has
become more controversial than ever before. The CNN documentary Blackfish brought the conditions
Seaworld provides for its orcas to the public eye in a way that had not been done before, which led to
much public outrage. The containment of orca whales for educational and entertainment purposes has,
in almost every way, been brought into question. Ranging from the physical and psychological
damages they experience, the issues in their family structures, and the dangers that their human
trainers experience, orca whales are not fit to be kept in captivity.
Many of SeaWorld s former trainers have admitted to seeing physical and psychological damages
amongst the animals. One prime physical condition many whales have been exposed to is what is
commonly referred to as raking. Raking occurs when one orca drags, or rakes, its teeth along another
whale. According to Seaworld s own website, Killer whales may rank themselves and establish
dominance by... raking (tooth scratching) and other vigorous behavior (Manby). Raking is a
completely natural practice among orcas, but the issue truly arises

George Orwell Use Of Conformity In 1984
A rebel is a person who rises in opposition against an established government; a person who refuses
allegiance to and resists a ruling party. Every society s set of rules and regulations evokes the inner
insurgent of a minority; George Orwell s dystopia demonstrates the execution of pursuing ones
rebellious tendencies and the unconscious destruction that follows. In George Orwell s 1984, Orwell
juxtaposes rebellion and conformity by using various techniques. The portrayal of London, the Prole
District and the Golden Country, the contrast between the Parson s family unit and Winston s
relationship with Julia along with the depiction of mind versus body are all ways in which Orwell
chooses to analogize rebellion and conformity.
Within Orwell s dystopia, London, the Golden Country and the Prole District play large roles in the
way Winston and Julia not only act, but also speak of themselves and the Inner Party. London is a
concrete jungle where, ...there seemed to be no colour in anything except the posters that were

Genetic Makeup In Carnivorous Plants
Rae shawn Bart
November,06 2017
What about the Genetic makeup and DNA of a carnivorous plants different from other plants.
What makes a carnivorous plant different for starters, for those who don t know what a carnivorous
plant is, it s a plant that instead of getting nutrients from the soil and absorbing nutrients from water it
gets its nutrients from eating things. An example of this would be the Venus fly trap, instead of getting
nutrients from the ground it eats fly s and other insects to get the nutrients it need, but the real question
is what about their genetic makeup makes them different from regular plants. Here is one of the ways
it s different from regular plants.
Firstly, what makes them different is their genes and example of this would be the pitcher plant.
Unlike the Venus fly trap, the pitcher plant has insects go inside it and they get stuck in the liquid it
produces. This plant has two different kind of leaves the first one being the normal leaves which
regular plants use, but the leave that is different is what forms the pitcher like shape of the pitcher
plant which performs the catching reactions. Researcher s sequenced the plants DNA and looked at the
gene reaction between both leaf s (Boyce Greenfield) What they found is that certain genes are only
on the pitcher leaf, or preferentially in the pitcher leaf, and that some of these very likely have to do
with the trap development, . So, over the course of time these carnivorous plants seemed

diving is beneficial to a homeless man like himself, society needs to be aware of their wasteful habits.
At the beginning of his article, Eighner redefines dumpster diving to change people s negative views
on the term. Traditionally dumpster diving is known as looking for treasure in someone else s trash.
Eighner explains that the term dumpster diving is a little too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To build his credibility as well as showing the positives of his job, Eighner starts off with his
definition of dumpster diving. After changing society s perception of dumpster diving, he reveals
society s wasteful habits through irony. Even though Eighner is dependent on waste, he urges society
to be aware that they shouldn t be wasteful. Lastly, Eighner compares scavengers to can scroungers to
uplift his own group while condescending the scroungers. Through ignorance or with intention, can
scroungers do not take full advantage of the items they find or have, just like the rest of society. The
trash that the can scroungers carelessly ignored is a scavenger s

Common Cold Recovery
The runny nose, the painfully scratchy throat, and clammy body are all common symptoms of the
common cold, a sickness that almost everyone has experienced in their lifetime. A cough heard in the
cold weather is normal and even expected, but what if one never had to deal with problems like these
again? Or if they did only have them with a fraction of the severity and a much quicker recovery time?
By following three simple and very effective steps, one can recover more quickly from a cold and
possibly avoid catching one altogether. Some of the best ways include following certain, specific
hygienic protocols, eating the proper, nutrient rich foods, and most importantly of all, resting. First,
we all must remember to be clean, which includes washing one s hands regularly. By washing hands
regularly using warm water, soap, and a little elbow grease, one can easily prevent days of sickness,
save dozens of tissues from being used, and even spare the person using ... Show more content on

Our bodies are outstandingly complex and capable of doing extraordinary things. Many of these things
happen while we sleep, such as the encoding long term memories. The repair of tissues and damaged
cells also takes place while a human is resting. The common cold is a viral infection, and once it fights
its way into our bodies, begins the task of injecting its own DNA into our cells, not only reproducing
and growing, but changing the original nucleotide sequence of a cell into something new and deadly.
Our bodies then attack these viral cells with the white blood cells, causing our bodies to kill these
infectious invaders. Sleeping allows the body to repair the tissues that are damaged due to this process
leading to a quicker recovery. Resting and staying home while exhibiting symptoms also helps prevent
the disease from spreading around to hundreds of other

The Down Information Processing Occurs
a) Top down information processing occurs when an individual uses previous knowledge, such as the
context of a situation, to recognize and identify patterns when making a decision. In this study, the top
down information that the researchers looked at was whether or not gender marked definite articles in
French would affect lexical activation during spoken word recognition. A critical display would
consist of four images, a target, cohort competitor, and two distractors. For example, using the
materials from Appendix A, a target word could be couronne crown in English, the cohort competitor
would be couteau knife in English, and the distractors would be chaussure shoe and lapin rabbit .
When the eye tracking is set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using this model, it is expected that the participants would spend more time fixating on the images of
the dustpan and comb because of their phonetic similarities as they both begin with [pε ]. Then as the
word progresses, they will retrieve the target word, the dustpan, and fixate their eyes on the image.
The second goal of the first experiment was to see how the gendered articles would influence the
lexical activation during word recognition. In this trial, using phonologically distinct words, a critical
display could be composed of the target word le cerf volant (the kite), the paired distractor la
coccinelle (the ladybug), and two competitors le dauphin (the dolphin) and la tomate (the tomato).
Upon hearing the beginning of the utterance le , the participant is expected to fixate on both the
images of the target, the kite, and the masculine competitor, the dolphin. If the participant does indeed
do this, it shows that the matching gender marked articles are being accessed at the start of the
utterance and as more sound input is processed, the target word gets more activated, eventually
retrieving the correct word and fixating on the right image. c) Figure 5 illustrates the main results of
Experiment 2, displaying the probability of fixation over time in milliseconds for the target, cohort
competitor, and the average of the distractors. The trends in the

Sleep Deprivation And The Sleep
Sleep is a basic necessity of everyday life. According to the National Foundation of sleep, a person is
required to sleep at least seven to nine hours a day. (citation) As mentioned by Matt T. Bianchi in the
book Sleep Deprivation and Disease, The normal quantity of sleep depends on the individual and a
myriad of other factors such as environment and an individual s waking needs. (citation) This means
that the quantity of sleep that people achieve depends on their body s needs and functions.
Unfortunately, according to the Nation Foundation of Sleep, twenty percent of individuals are affected
by sleep deprivation each year. This a huge number. Sleep deprivation is a lack of the required sleep a
person needs in a week . It can come in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The percentage decreases after the age of fifty. Both quality and quantity are important when it comes
to sleep. If one fails to acquire the appropriate amount of R.E.M sleep and sleeps less than six hours
everyday for one week, then that person would have a total sleep debt of seven to fourteen hours. The
effects of not sleeping properly can be felt as soon as the next day.
As mentioned before, there are two types of sleep deprivation, partial sleep deprivation and total sleep
deprivation. A person is considered partially sleep deprived if he or she gets less than five hours of
sleep per night. If a person gets less than three hours of sleep per night, then he or she is considered
sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation can either be caused by lifestyle or medical issues. Factors such as
drinking coffee at night, obesity, stress, insomnia, and sleep apnea negatively affect the way one
sleeps. As mentioned previously, sleep deprivation can affect one s physically. Some of these effects
include: obesity, type two diabetes and heart disease. Most of these effects are cyclical. This means
that it is a repeating process.
Obesity is a physical illness which results in the extreme production of fat and cholesterol. Obesity is
an increasing problem in the U.S. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Obesity has
more than doubled since the 1980 s. In the 2014, six hundred million adults aged eighteen and up,
were suffering from obesity. Obesity

Analysis Of Frank Jackson s What Mary DidnT Know
The topic I chose for this paper is the article What Mary Didn t Know written by Frank Jackson.
Essentially, What Mary Didn t Know focuses on a woman, Mary, who is confined to a room where
nothing contains any colour, everything is in black and white. She is educated this same way, strictly
through means black and white tools. She is taught every possible thing there is to know about the
physical nature of our world. Jackson concludes that physicalism must be false, for when she is let out
of that black and white room, having complete knowledge of the physical world, that she will learn
what the colour red is. Jackson believes that through his article, he has disproven physicalism. This
paper will prove why Jackson s article is false, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second counter argument Jackson could have is that the realm of mental states has always existed.
To say that a realm of mental states exists during a time without life, without conscious, is nothing
short of foolish. A separate realm of reality made up of nothing more than experiences cannot possibly
exist without anything to experience it. If there is no living thing to perceive a reality solely made up
of mental states, in what capacity would it exist? The simple answer is that it could not possibly exist,
which would result in a time where the world, existence itself, was physicalist. Therefore, his second
possible counter argument is not feasible either. This leaves only one possible solution. The world had
to be at some point physicalist, which will be used as a tool throughout the rest of this paper.
II: Approach from Evolution Jellyfish have been on Earth for more than 650 million years. But there is
something even more interesting about them: they completely lack a brain. Despite this, they are still
able to do incredible things such as touch, smell, and see. Even if it is in a way that is
incomprehensible to us, these animals are still able to experience the world in some form. By Jackson
s logic, this should be utterly impossible. For sensations must exist in a separate realm away from this
reality, how could they access this realm if they have absolutely no thought? No consciousness? And

History Textbooks Crazy History
Jonah Petrick
History Textbooks and Their Crazy History Without reading these fascinating articles one might never
realize the complexity and controversy surrounding history textbooks. I for one, would have never
guessed that racial equality wasn t truly displayed in textbooks until well after the 1960 s. Textbooks,
it seems, have been used for almost nothing but profit and political gains and due to this have been
revised to fulfill the needs of the targeted. Leaders and state boards declare what they want to appear
in textbooks and by doing this the students view is limited to that textbook. This allows leaders and
the elected to mold their people and their nation, sometimes for worse and sometimes for better. Even
though much turbulence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Textbooks are still being written for profit, politics, and nationalism. Education boards have been
around for centuries and they are the ones who decide what they want their state or nation to recognize
as valid history. Modern day education boards are revising textbooks to outline many narrow minded
ideas such as in Texas where, they wanted the texts to establish that the U.S. is a Christian land
governed by Christian principles (The Week), and Slavery under the new standards, would no longer
be described as America s original sin, and would become the Atlantic triangular trade (The Week),
such revisions will strongly affect the views of

The Poem Clocks and Lovers by W. H. Auden
The poem Clocks and Lovers by W. H. Auden s contrasts the idea of whether or not love will outlast
time. Initially, the poem portrays a lover affirming the belief that love will triumph over time. The
poem transitions and depicts the clocks argument that due to time, love will eventually fade away. The
narrator contrasts the two arguments with usage of imagery, personification, tone and diction. The
argument that love will prevail over time is contrasted by the belief that as time goes by, time can
never be stopped and love will not last. Overall, neither belief is represented as correct because the
narrator contrasts the two opposing arguments by displaying that two arguments are incompatible. In
regards to their following arguments, time is not as malicious or arduous to love but love is not
impervious to time. Beginning early in the poem and used heavily throughout, imagery and
personification are utilized to exemplify the lovers argument. The belief that love is never ending is
created through never ending connotations, I ll love you, dear, I ll love you Till China and Africa meet,
and the river jumps over the mountain and the salmon sing in the street. The lover uses images of the
impossible such as fish singing, the laws of physics breaking, and distant continents meeting. This
strengthens the original belief that love is eternal and superior to time itself. These tasks are nearly
impossible and the idea of love one day ending is equated with them.

Analysis Of The Emperor Of Ice Cream
6. While Dylan Thomas Do not go gentle into that goodnight and Wallace Stevens The Emperor of Ice
Cream both deal with overcoming or facing a death, the poems take contrasting views on how to see
death. Death is subjective and the effects of it change depending on who has passed and who is
experiencing the loss. Death can be portrayed in a positive and negative tone and in a reverent one as
well.
Thomas portrays death in the reverent tone. He is urging the dying to down in flames, to burn as bright
as possible before he or she can no longer burn at all. This is shown through the title, Do not go gentle
into that goodnight , and through the phrases burn and rave and the repeated rave, rave . Thomas is
urging the dying to leave something to be remembered by. He wants them to leave one last mark on
this world.
Stevens contrasts Tomas view on death. Stevens death is frivolous and has no impact on the world. A
common woman has died, and nobody seems to care and that s exactly how Stevens wants use to feel
about it. He seemingly portrays her as a monster to get the point of her not mattering to resonate. The
line horny feet protrude give the deceased undesirable qualities that causes the reader to see her as less
of a person. People bring flowers in last month s newspaper to show that this is not something people
care about. They did not even care enough to give the deceased a vase or glass for her flowers. The

Role Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
Are world is becoming a place full of a bunch of mindless consumers that can t think for themselves.
We are not capable of thinking deeply because we have all these things around us distracting us like
advertisements and we always have things in ours ears like headphones just like the seashell ear pieces
in Fahrenheit 451. We are not capable of electing politicians based on real issues we just vote for the
best looking politician and think he is automatically the best. We also can t communicate with each
other there is too much technology and if we do interact with people it involves technology and no one
really is interested in books they are immersed in their devices and tvs. Today s world is turning into
Fahrenheit 451 s world we are not capable of thinking deeply we are not capable of electing
politicians based on real issues and we are not capable of communicating with each other. In
Fahrenheit 451 s world they are not capable of thinking deeply or thinking for themselves the people
in Fahrenheit 451 are almost mind controlled. In fahrenheit 451 people are not able to think deeply
because of mass media like when montag is on the train a jingle for denham s dentifrice toothpaste
comes on in the train and everyone is distracted by it and no one tries to stop it but montag tries to
stop it. He tries to stop the jingle because he is trying to read and retain the information but he can t
retain the information. In today s world that is similar we are distracted by

Achievement Goals As A Measure Of Motivation
The article Achievement Goals as a Measure of Motivation in University Students talked about the
difference in performance goals and mastery goals in students currently enrolled in universities. The
article described a performance goal is one that is associated to a specific outcome; For example,
passing your first chemistry exam. Performance goals are more common with short term goals solely
because the majority of the time they aren t something you can do continuously. On the other hand, a
mastery goal is described as one that you set in order to show you your comprehension of a certain
topic or task; for instance, instead of passing your chemistry exam, you want to fully understand
chemistry and become a master.
Throughout high school, I was the kind of student that always did the bare minimum but knew that I
could do better. I never did my homework, and I the only test I have ever studied for was my SAT
because I knew that was my only option to get into this university. After reading this article, I realized
that all I was doing was setting an academic alienation goal which meant I was choosing to perform
tasks that required the minimum amount of effort, which is turn was just setting my up to fail, and
even though it wasn t really saying that I wanted to fail, that s what I was doing.
Once I was accepted to Texas A M, I realized that this kind of mentality was no longer going to work
for me. I knew that if I wanted to succeed in college, I was going to have to

A Report On The Technical Letter
The technical letter was sent to EU to inquire whether 37% efficiency is in line with the EU standards.
The answer was that 37% efficiency completely satisfies the EU requirements. Mr. Baker thinks that
37% efficiency is economically feasible. It never was just about building the power plant. They looked
at all the renewable options, possibility of Zhur, etc. During their analyses, they took the triple price of
carbon from the 2012 study, to make sure it is still economically viable.
Regarding their opinion on Vice president of ECA Ms. Laura Tuck and ECA Managing Director Ms.
Ellen Goldstein, Mr. Baker said that their position is very clear and straightforward, if they see any
problems with this project, they will not proceed with it, and they have no career advancement issues
to satisfy. Ellen Goldstein has cancelled a $1.3 billion project in Bangladesh over the corruption issue.
Mr. Peters mentioned that Contour Global will only manage this project and it doesn t have the
expertise to build it. For the EPC contract, they have to have a competitive bidder.
Contour Global as an investor will provide the equity and the rest will come from the debt financing.
On 25% IRR: At this point, they don t have a strong opinion, but Bank will give it a serious look. If
this looks like a very unbalanced deal, they will not finance it. This is a problem of Kosovo
government to agree to put such a high tariff on people. This is the other side of the request for higher

Crete Battle Essay
What caused the battle?
The introduction of aircraft to the war gave countries the abilities to do things never thought possible.
Sending paratroopers to the ground from the sky, and high accuracy target bombing were only a
couple of things that the introduction of aircraft brought. However, in order to use these aircraft, a
place for takeoff and landing was a necessity. This is where the island of Crete, in Greece, had an
advantage. As Crete was the largest of the islands in the Mediterranean, it would be the perfect
location for raids into the Balkans and Southern Europe, along with being a base for tactical air
support in Greece and the Balkans. The harbor was also the largest in the Mediterranean, so it would
be ideal for Naval base operations. If Crete were to fall into the hands of the Germans, it could be used
for raids into Egypt and Palestine, used as a base in the eastern Mediterranean, used to prevent the
British from taking advantage of the Balkans, to support operations in North Africa, ... Show more

shortage of troops and equipment due to other battles being carried out in the Middle East, they began
the battle with a great disadvantage. However, they did have some time to prepare as the assault was

Essay On College Stakeholders The key stakeholders of education include traditional four year non profit universities/colleges and for profit colleges, state and federal government funding agencies, students and parents, and employers of students who graduate college. The main alignment between non profit universities/colleges and for profit colleges revolve around their desire for an increase in student quality, increase in faculty quality, increase in student population, increase in prestige, and thus consequently an increase in revenues. All types of colleges are trying to increase their endowment by raising tuition charges, admitting more students, hosting fundraisers, and asking for donation from their alumni. Students are then stuck in a difficult situation because they can either deny the loan, thus denying their college education, or they can take the high interest loan, and be burdened in debt, and receive their college education. Most students usually decide to take the loan because of the policy of employers. Employers of students who graduate college align with non profit colleges, for profit colleges, and government funding agencies with the idea of having a higher number of students attending colleges. These employers want to hire people who are highly skilled in their respective fields and want people who can apply their skills well in a corporate setting. The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana Veciana Suarez, as she remembers one of the worst, fiercest, and most powerful storm to hit South Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew. • 6. The Crucible Tone The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, revolves around the Salem witch trials of the 15th century. Much of what precedes the play portion of the novel is dedicated to establishing the background of the novel. This passage, in specific, sets the tone of the novel as it describes the ideology of the witch hunts, and how they came into effect. The passage summarizes the fundamental ideas of the witch hunts as a paradox stating, The witch hunt was a perverse manifestation of the panic which set among the classes when the balance began to turn toward greater individual freedom (Miller 11). These words are an important part of the novel because it lays out a groundwork which the rest of the ideas and concepts that are brought up in the novel will build themselves upon. Simply put, it sets the tone for the rest of the novel. It describes the fears that the characters have, and what conflicts they will undergo. For instance, signs of mob mentality can be gleamed from the passage. This can be seen when it says, balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom (Miller 11). ... Hamlet And Laertes By William Shakespeare Hamlet and Laertes William Shakespeare s Hamlet is one of his excellent tragedies which explores the difference between themes such as love and revenge or the complexities of life and death. In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet and Laertes show some comparisons and contrasts which give an abundance of interest to the play. In fact, Hamlet and Laertes display impulsive reactions when angered; both have fathers killed, and both are seeking revenge. Even so, both characters display a considerable likeness, which is trying to protect the same person, Ophelia. It is important to realize that both loved her, but in different ways. On the other hand, Hamlet had a lovely mother who was the Queen and Laertes never had a mother figure in his life (Shmoop web). One of those Hamlet s characteristics revealed in the play depicts him as an individual who was not naturally vengeful, but he was loyal to his father. Therefore, he swore an oath to his father to seek revenge. Also, Hamlet did not want to endanger his friends into the dangerous mission of seeking revenge against the new King, so he urged his friends to shake hands and become part of it, swearing in faith. He was not sure if the ghost was really his father rather than a deceitful demon (Hamlet trailers). Therefore, he staged the Mousetrap to verify Claudius guilt. Here is one of the ways it s different from regular plants. Firstly, what makes them different is their genes and example of this would be the pitcher plant. Unlike the Venus fly trap, the pitcher plant has insects go inside it and they get stuck in the liquid it produces. This plant has two different kind of leaves the first one being the normal leaves which regular plants use, but the leave that is different is what forms the pitcher like shape of the pitcher plant which performs the catching reactions. Researcher s sequenced the plants DNA and looked at the gene reaction between both leaf s (Boyce Greenfield) What they found is that certain genes are only on the pitcher leaf, or preferentially in the pitcher leaf, and that some of these very likely have to do with the trap development, . So, over the course of time these carnivorous plants seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving Dumpster Diving: Beneficial Yet Detrimental When people think about dumpsters, a disgusted image of wretched odors, tornadoes of flies, and spilled sour liquids comes to their minds. In addition, they stay away from dumpsters, fearing they would catch some type of illness. Yet, people don t know that dumpsters has all types of treasures. Because of people s wasteful habits, a wide variety of items end up in the dumpsters; some are incredibly useful and even in good condition. In his article, On Dumpster Diving, formerly homeless author Lars Eighner describes how he became dependent on dumpster diving for survival. Eighner includes a definition of dumpster diving, utilizes irony, and makes a comparison between dumpster divers and can scroungers to show that even though dumpster diving is beneficial to a homeless man like himself, society needs to be aware of their wasteful habits. • 22. Common Cold Recovery The runny nose, the painfully scratchy throat, and clammy body are all common symptoms of the common cold, a sickness that almost everyone has experienced in their lifetime. A cough heard in the cold weather is normal and even expected, but what if one never had to deal with problems like these again? Or if they did only have them with a fraction of the severity and a much quicker recovery time? By following three simple and very effective steps, one can recover more quickly from a cold and possibly avoid catching one altogether. Some of the best ways include following certain, specific hygienic protocols, eating the proper, nutrient rich foods, and most importantly of all, resting. First, we all must remember to be clean, which includes washing one s hands regularly. By washing hands regularly using warm water, soap, and a little elbow grease, one can easily prevent days of sickness, save dozens of tissues from being used, and even spare the person using ... Many of these things happen while we sleep, such as the encoding long term memories. The repair of tissues and damaged cells also takes place while a human is resting. The common cold is a viral infection, and once it fights its way into our bodies, begins the task of injecting its own DNA into our cells, not only reproducing and growing, but changing the original nucleotide sequence of a cell into something new and deadly. Our bodies then attack these viral cells with the white blood cells, causing our bodies to kill these infectious invaders. Sleeping allows the body to repair the tissues that are damaged due to this process leading to a quicker recovery. • 23. The Down Information Processing Occurs a) Top down information processing occurs when an individual uses previous knowledge, such as the context of a situation, to recognize and identify patterns when making a decision. In this study, the top down information that the researchers looked at was whether or not gender marked definite articles in French would affect lexical activation during spoken word recognition. A critical display would consist of four images, a target, cohort competitor, and two distractors. For example, using the materials from Appendix A, a target word could be couronne crown in English, the cohort competitor would be couteau knife in English, and the distractors would be chaussure shoe and lapin rabbit . When the eye tracking is set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using this model, it is expected that the participants would spend more time fixating on the images of the dustpan and comb because of their phonetic similarities as they both begin with [pε ]. Then as the word progresses, they will retrieve the target word, the dustpan, and fixate their eyes on the image. The second goal of the first experiment was to see how the gendered articles would influence the lexical activation during word recognition. In this trial, using phonologically distinct words, a critical display could be composed of the target word le cerf volant (the kite), the paired distractor la coccinelle (the ladybug), and two competitors le dauphin (the dolphin) and la tomate (the tomato). Upon hearing the beginning of the utterance le , the participant is expected to fixate on both the images of the target, the kite, and the masculine competitor, the dolphin. If the participant does indeed do this, it shows that the matching gender marked articles are being accessed at the start of the utterance and as more sound input is processed, the target word gets more activated, eventually retrieving the correct word and fixating on the right image. c) Figure 5 illustrates the main results of Experiment 2, displaying the probability of fixation over time in milliseconds for the target, cohort competitor, and the average of the distractors. (citation) As mentioned by Matt T. Bianchi in the book Sleep Deprivation and Disease, The normal quantity of sleep depends on the individual and a myriad of other factors such as environment and an individual s waking needs. (citation) This means that the quantity of sleep that people achieve depends on their body s needs and functions. Both quality and quantity are important when it comes to sleep. If one fails to acquire the appropriate amount of R.E.M sleep and sleeps less than six hours everyday for one week, then that person would have a total sleep debt of seven to fourteen hours. The effects of not sleeping properly can be felt as soon as the next day. As mentioned before, there are two types of sleep deprivation, partial sleep deprivation and total sleep deprivation. A person is considered partially sleep deprived if he or she gets less than five hours of sleep per night. If a person gets less than three hours of sleep per night, then he or she is considered sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation can either be caused by lifestyle or medical issues. Factors such as drinking coffee at night, obesity, stress, insomnia, and sleep apnea negatively affect the way one sleeps. As mentioned previously, sleep deprivation can affect one s physically. Some of these effects include: obesity, type two diabetes and heart disease. Most of these effects are cyclical. This means that it is a repeating process. Essentially, What Mary Didn t Know focuses on a woman, Mary, who is confined to a room where nothing contains any colour, everything is in black and white. She is educated this same way, strictly through means black and white tools. She is taught every possible thing there is to know about the physical nature of our world. Jackson concludes that physicalism must be false, for when she is let out of that black and white room, having complete knowledge of the physical world, that she will learn what the colour red is. Jackson believes that through his article, he has disproven physicalism. This paper will prove why Jackson s article is false, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second counter argument Jackson could have is that the realm of mental states has always existed. To say that a realm of mental states exists during a time without life, without conscious, is nothing short of foolish. A separate realm of reality made up of nothing more than experiences cannot possibly exist without anything to experience it. If there is no living thing to perceive a reality solely made up of mental states, in what capacity would it exist? The simple answer is that it could not possibly exist, which would result in a time where the world, existence itself, was physicalist. Therefore, his second possible counter argument is not feasible either. This leaves only one possible solution. The world had to be at some point physicalist, which will be used as a tool throughout the rest of this paper. • 28. The Poem Clocks and Lovers by W. H. Auden The poem Clocks and Lovers by W. H. Auden s contrasts the idea of whether or not love will outlast time. Initially, the poem portrays a lover affirming the belief that love will triumph over time. The poem transitions and depicts the clocks argument that due to time, love will eventually fade away. The narrator contrasts the two arguments with usage of imagery, personification, tone and diction. The argument that love will prevail over time is contrasted by the belief that as time goes by, time can never be stopped and love will not last. Overall, neither belief is represented as correct because the narrator contrasts the two opposing arguments by displaying that two arguments are incompatible. In regards to their following arguments, time is not as malicious or arduous to love but love is not impervious to time. Beginning early in the poem and used heavily throughout, imagery and personification are utilized to exemplify the lovers argument. The belief that love is never ending is created through never ending connotations, I ll love you, dear, I ll love you Till China and Africa meet, and the river jumps over the mountain and the salmon sing in the street. The lover uses images of the impossible such as fish singing, the laws of physics breaking, and distant continents meeting. This strengthens the original belief that love is eternal and superior to time itself. These tasks are nearly impossible and the idea of love one day ending is equated with them. ... • 29. Analysis Of The Emperor Of Ice Cream 6. While Dylan Thomas Do not go gentle into that goodnight and Wallace Stevens The Emperor of Ice Cream both deal with overcoming or facing a death, the poems take contrasting views on how to see death. Death is subjective and the effects of it change depending on who has passed and who is experiencing the loss. Death can be portrayed in a positive and negative tone and in a reverent one as well. Thomas portrays death in the reverent tone. He is urging the dying to down in flames, to burn as bright as possible before he or she can no longer burn at all. This is shown through the title, Do not go gentle into that goodnight , and through the phrases burn and rave and the repeated rave, rave . Thomas is urging the dying to leave something to be remembered by. He wants them to leave one last mark on this world. Stevens contrasts Tomas view on death. Stevens death is frivolous and has no impact on the world. A common woman has died, and nobody seems to care and that s exactly how Stevens wants use to feel about it. He seemingly portrays her as a monster to get the point of her not mattering to resonate. The line horny feet protrude give the deceased undesirable qualities that causes the reader to see her as less of a person. • 31. Achievement Goals As A Measure Of Motivation The article Achievement Goals as a Measure of Motivation in University Students talked about the difference in performance goals and mastery goals in students currently enrolled in universities. The article described a performance goal is one that is associated to a specific outcome; For example, passing your first chemistry exam. Performance goals are more common with short term goals solely because the majority of the time they aren t something you can do continuously. On the other hand, a mastery goal is described as one that you set in order to show you your comprehension of a certain topic or task; for instance, instead of passing your chemistry exam, you want to fully understand chemistry and become a master. Throughout high school, I was the kind of student that always did the bare minimum but knew that I could do better. I never did my homework, and I the only test I have ever studied for was my SAT because I knew that was my only option to get into this university. Sending paratroopers to the ground from the sky, and high accuracy target bombing were only a couple of things that the introduction of aircraft brought.
