In The Stories Of Eva Luna By Isabel Allende
In the unique position of being both related to the Marxist president whose reign preceded that of
Augusto Pinochet, and a woman in an increasingly gender sensitive society, Isabel Allende witnessed
much of the tragedy that befell Latin America in the late 1900 s. Allende made it her task to combine
elements of the magical and absurd with her own struggles, and those of society under oppressive rule
and stereotypes. She ultimately acted as an influential supporter of women s empowerment, and she
harnessed this desire for equality and strength through her own literary work. In her 1989 collection of
short stories entitled The Stories of Eva Luna, she takes a peculiar, yet transcendent stance on the
reality of women s lives within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by way of the crippling two words that she whispers to him, the power that was thought to
lie in the figure of the Colonel comes to lie entirely in the more prudent Belisa. Similarly, in the story,
If You Touched My Heart, Amadeo Peralta has complete control of Hortesina, locking her up in a cell
for his aesthetic pleasure and, because he felt like it. (66) But by the end of the story, the same
exchange of power plays out, with Peralta now in a cell and Hortesina observing, healthy and well,
from the outside. The same external, intergender powerplay is found in many of the stories in this
collection. Additionally, a theme of agony and despair penetrates these stories, and characters find
themselves in situations they have little control over. In The Gold of Tomas Vargas, Antonia Sierra is a
young woman married to Tomas Vargas, a miser in matters of family and a quarreling spender in
matters of personal interest. By the time she was 40, she, had hardly a tooth left in her head, her once
audacious body had been ruined by work, births and miscarriages (51). Furthermore, when it is
discovered that Concha Diaz is the child of Tomas, Antonia s

Burnout Or Compassion Fatigue
Vicarious trauma is also known as compassion fatigue and is often associated with the cost of caring
for others (Figley, 1982). Other terms used to describe this phenomenon are secondary trauma, stress
or secondary victimization (figley, 1982). At the heart of this issue, is that social workers, therapists,
first responders, volunteers, that work with trauma victims/survivors can experience vicarious trauma,
or compassion fatigue because of the work they do, and love. Compassion fatigue is the emotional
residue from the exposure of hearing trauma stories over and over until your heart and head is full
until the caller/client s trauma becomes your experience too. You cannot hear story after story and
remain unaffected. As your callers/clients experience a daily repetition of trauma, so will you .Being a
witness to pain, loss, fear, terror or injustice that the caller/client is living through and has to endure

The day comes and you think you cannot hear one more story of trauma. This is not a sign of burnout
but of compassion fatigue. It s a signal to you that it is time to step back and do self care. Burnout and
compassion fatigue are often confused as the same thing. The difference between them is that burnout
builds up gradually over time and resolves itself when the volunteer or practitioner takes a break or
goes to other work, even in the same field. Vicarious trauma or compassion fatigue is a state of
tension, stress and preoccupation with the stories and traumatic experiences described and endured by
callers/clients. Triggering your own potential traumas or experiences and looping back and forth
between your callers/clients stories and your own until there is no objective place to witness

The Impact Of Online Activism On Hong Kong
Online activism is increasingly advocated in many modern societies by allowing activists to instantly
spread and deliver information to a broader audience. In the digital age, activists can easily raise
awareness, share videos and opinions through various online platforms. This new phenomenon of
activism driven by media technologies has been widely used in Hong Kong to retain human rights,
protesting for more autonomy and democracy. Given the ability of online activism to raise awareness
and rally support for different political or social movements, it places great challenge for the Hong
Kong and Mainland Chinese authorities to keep their power intact.
This paper will examines how Hong Kong civil societies have used online activism to ... Show more

To answer these questions, this paper argues that online activism can be successful in mobilizing
supporters together, but not necessarily effective in achieving the desired outcome due political
boundaries. This paper is divided into five main parts: part one introduces the theoretical framework
of activism and the use of media technologies to support for human rights. Part two explores how a
unique Hong Kong identity was created during the years as a British colony and examines the degree
of democracy in Hong Kong after the handover of sovereignty in 1997. Part three uses case studies of
the July 1 protest and the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong to illustrate the use of media in
convening for supporters. Part four evaluates the effectiveness of using online activism to pursue
social and political changes as demonstrated in the two case studies. Finally, this paper examines the
responses from government authorities in tackling Internet activism and how some are deemed to
violate basic human rights.
Activism has always been present throughout history whilst using digital platforms have further drive
it to a next level. Activism is the ability to act, influence or even change the course of history.
Societies today did not become the way it is naturally, rather, it is shaped by historical events and is
constantly changing in response to the stances and actions of the citizens. Activism entails the actions
of promoting, impeding government policies or social issues

Computer Need Different Components to Make Them Function...
A personal computer (PC) is any general purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and original sales
price make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end user with
no intervening computer operator. PCs include any type of computer that is used in a personal manner.
A personal computer may be a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet PC, or a handheld PC (also called a
palmtop). The most common microprocessors in personal computers are x86 compatible CPUs.
Software applications for personal computers include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Web
browsers and e mail clients, games, and myriad personal productivity and special purpose software
applications. Modern personal computers often have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A keyboard has 26 letter keys (simulating the 26 letters of the alphabet) each with 2 types of character,
upper case and lower case, use the Caps Lock button to move through each case. You can use
shortcuts by using the keyboard, a certain combination of keys could activate a shortcut that has been
programmed into the computer (CTRL + C for example is copy).
Modern computers that are not laptops or Tablets have a mouse. A mouse is a round device that is
designed to fit into the users hand comfortably. The mouse s most important function is to control a
pointer on the screen. With this you can control what happens on your computer. The mouse on a PC
has 2 buttons, the left button is used to pick an object or a piece of text, the right button is to access a
menu on whatever the pointer is on. MAC s have only one button which controls everything the
mouse does. Nowadays PC mice have a round segment between the 2 buttons. This is used to scroll
down a piece of text easier. MAC s are more advanced and use a ball on the top of the mouse. This is
used for scrolling in any direction. This is useful for any documents in landscape form. Older mice
also have a ball at the bottom of it which judges the pointer s movement. The ball is connected to 2
wheels that detect movement and moves the pointer; however these balls were very sensitive and had
to be cleaned every so often. They also needed something called a mouse mat to

Why China s Fall Would Have On The Global Economy
Using the elements of PEST analysis as a framework discuss what impact you consider China s fall
would have on the global economy.
The Chinese economy can be viewed as the cornerstone of the global economy. The current global
GDP, measured in purchasing power parity of nearly 60%, as well as current international rate of
growth at more than 80%, is primarily accounted for by China and other neighbouring middle income
countries, such as India or Vietnam.[1] These numbers are significant in understanding our global
economy, which is widely interconnected through alliances of trade, laws and finance, thereby
affecting our daily lives politically, economically, socially and technologically.[2] With recent analysis
indicating that China s growth has declined to about 6.8% by the end of 2015[3], how would a crash in
China s economy affect the global market?
Following the 2008 2009 global economic crash, emerging markets like China with a rapid growth
rate were presumed to safeguard the larger economies of the European Union, Japan and the United
States. As China expanded its industrial revolution with an unprecedented annual growth rate and
increased international trade, many countries in particular Germany benefited economically. Germany
became one of China s main suppliers for technology that it required in order to produce goods, as
well as luxury products such as cars for the new money generation of entrepreneurs; Chinese buying
power currently makes up 6.6% of Germany s

West African American Slavery In The 1800s
Slavery has been around for thousands of years, but suddenly in the eighteen hundreds people started
to oppose it. The New York Tribune wrote Time Machine 1846, and the Washington Post published
West African Country struggles to come to terms with its slavery past ; two articles that investigate the
topic of slavery in the nineteenth century. In west Africa there is a small country along the coast called
Benin. The whole country is in controversy over the country s history and whether or not they should
support their slavery past. In 1846, a man by the name of Northrup witnessed a slave auction and the
cruelty of buying slaves. These two articles have similarities but are also quite different. The most

Case Study Vicarious Trauma
Brief Description Vicarious Trauma, Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Resiliency
The demands of today s healthcare providers and mental health workers, has become challenging due
to the complexities and mass influx of mental health disorders. Although some of these problems may
seem small when compare to trauma and crisis. The population affected by trauma and crisis can be
challenging to those that work directly with this population. Conversely, many workers of this
population suffer from burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. Burnout is defined as of
physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that produces a lack of interest in everyday activities, and
work related constant stress and trauma. Compassion fatigue is when workers no longer have feelings
of compassion, due to exhibiting on going empathy (James Gilliland, 2017). Counselors that suffer
from Vicarious Trauma, is when human service workers are affected by trauma responses in caring for
these individuals, and they start to feel traumatized concordling. Lastly the feeling of Resiliency when
counselors, physicians, social workers, can go back to work without any negative feelings of burnout,
fatigue or feeling traumatized. In the following case study Anna is experiencing nightmares about
being sexually assaulted this is an example of vicarious trauma, she is feeling depressed, and is taking

Cursive Writing In Public Schools
Should cursive writing be taught to students in public schools? Personally, I believe cursive writing is
a bit outdated in a sense. But I do not see it as a roadblock to any stepping stones if students were
taught cursive writing. There are several facts and statements that add to the support of my opinion.
Cursive writing is seen as outdated in sorts due to the quickly developing technological world. In
2012, a survey was conveyed amongst handwriting teachers and come to find out only 37% of the
teachers used cursive writing. Computer skills and typing are crucial in todays world. Cursive was
once used as a form of identification, people s signatures were valued. Where in todays world,
signatures are not always used. We now have digital passwords, as well as thumbprints to verify
identity. I would argue that cursive writing is proven to help stimulate both the left and right sides of
the human brain, while as typing and print do not. It is believed that handwriting goes hand in hand
with brain injuries. Tests showed that some people who had suffered brain injuries that affected their
writing, typing, or print, could still write in cursive. This directly proves that cursive, type, and print
use different sections of the brain. Though cursive writing excercises both parts of the brain, is it
worth sacrificing needed time in todays fast acting technological world? ... Show more content on

Edward Bellamy Looking Backward
Looking Backward
The book Looking Backward was written by Edward Bellamy and published in the year 1888.
Bellamy started off his career as a journalist but then married and decided to devote his efforts to
writing fiction novels. Looking Backward was published and Bellamy was famous. The book stirred
around the country and had people imagining a world like the one Bellamy created in his book. The
idea of a utopia as the one he describes is unbelievable. His book is what people, of even now in the
twenty first century, wish the world could possible be like. However, Bellamy s world of reasoning
and judging of people based on the inner beliefs was not what people of then or now do. Bellamy s

Mr. West is surprised by how the society has turned out and the kindness he received from a complete

vast improvements among the half a century he has been asleep. Here Bellamy begins to describe the
utopia world that he has created. Julian is amazed to hear how the society is equally prosperous and is
worried and the society values common good among the society than who has the most power. Within
the next few chapters Dr. Leete and Julian stay up to talk and answer questions that he may have. In
these chapters Bellamy is using a comparison of the Julian s old world to the utopia that he has just
entered and what Bellamy is creating as reader s continue with the story. Bellamy continues to explain
further details of this utopia. For one Bellamy explains how each makes the money equally within the
state and than how the money is given to the state to be equally distributed. Continuing on Bellamy
describes a little how the society and state was run back in the ninetieth century. He talks about man s
place in the work field and all the other responsibility that they carry out. Bellamy writes about each
world a little at a time in order for the reader to distinguish the differences of the ninetieth century and
the twentieth century. As the chapters progress and the story of the unimaginable world continues

Andy Clark s Natural-Born Cyborgs Essay
Andy Clark, in Natural Born Cyborgs, offers an extended argument that technology s impact on and
intertwining with ordinary biological human life is not to be feared, either psychologically or morally.
Clark offers several key concepts towards his line of reasoning. Clark argues that a human being
thinks and reasons based on the biological brain and body dynamically linked with the culture and
technological tools transparently accessible to the human. This form of thinking and reasoning
develops new quot;thinking systems quot; that which over time become second nature thoughts and
reasons and are the basis of even newer quot;thinking systems. quot; It is a repetitive cycle that
continues forever being built upon previous systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The example he uses is of a boy trapped in isolation at a computer or video game. Clark asserts that
isolation is a matter of perspective, and that as it appears the boy is alone, he is actually spending
quality time in his chosen community that is brought together only through the power of technology.
He contends that this may expand our embodied awareness, In a strange way, we may even come to
better appreciate the value and significance of our normal bodily presence by exploring such
alternatives. Not disembodiment, then, so much as a deeper understanding of why the body matters
and of the space of possible bodies and perspectives. Not isolation so much as a wider and less
geocentric kind of community. (Clark, 194) The argument strategy that Clark employs is similar to a
critiquing strategy where he clearly defines his opponent s concern(s), usually by the use of a real
world example. After he has made the reader well aware of his opponent s concern(s), he generally
uses the same example to tactfully pitch his proposal as a solution to eliminate or neutralize the
concern. The proposal is based on one of two sources, his personal beliefs or observations and theories
based on his research and comprehensive knowledge of humans, technology, and society. In some
instances, he will offer multiple proposals to strengthen his defense and allow the reader to understand
there a several possibilities. It appears from the heavy citation of Daniel Dennett s works

Examples Of Racial Tension In To Kill A Mockingbird
This novel introduced that racial tension still continued in the South during the 1960 s. In To Kill a
Mockingbird, Harper Lee introduces literary devices to address the racial tensions that still continue in
the South during the 1960 s. The conflict in this story is external because it incorporates how the black
community is severely criticized by the other residents in Maycomb, Alabama. These racial tensions
caused many black people to be accused of to cleanse the south and return it to how it originally was.
First of all , hyperbole was used in this novel to show that there are still those who want the blacks to
be treated like third class citizens. As stated in the novel They said he just broke into a blind raving
charge at the fence and started climbing over (pg. 235 ) this shows that they exaggerated the truth of
him escaping in order to have an excuse to kill him. This further proves that the racial tensions in the
South continued and there would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these cases involved a black male being accused of a crime they didn t commit. For instance,
Shields argues persuasively that Lee s novel more closely reflected the less infamous 1933 case of
Walter Lett, a black man accused of raping a white woman (Best) this proves that Lee understood the
tragedy that was happening in the south and wanted to demonstrates how blacks were treated in her
novel. Moreover, To Kill a Mockingbird is the structural and ideological detail of the Emmett Till trial
of 1955, which upon close consideration seems unquestionably to have provided a workable model for
aspects of Lee s fictional Tom Robinson trial . (Chura) in Lee s novel To Kill a Mockingbird Tom s
case helped understand how the other cases in history were won due to racists being put on jury. This
further proves that racism will continue in the south even in places where the law is supposed to be

Before everything, there was nothing. It was nothing, yet it was something. A void filled of colour
unimaginable, and smoky mists. This void was called Chaos.
As empty as the Chaos was, it was unexpectedly still inhabited. Inhabited by creatures with an entire
body as bright as snow, and horns that twisted and curled into elegant spirals. They had nimble legs as
long as evergreen trees, and hooves as reflective as silver. These creatures had no name, and not a
single soul is quite sure where they came from. These mystical creatures seemed to have only one
purpose, which was walking. Every second of their lives, they grazed in herds across the Chaos in
straight lines, with no plain goal in sight.

Lastly, the final creature altered into Erebus, the troublesome god of darkness. Erebus, seeing all this

Essay #1 The communication breakdown is caused in part by verbal communication, after the use of

The breakdown occurs as the assistant hands the wrong wire and instrument to the orthodontist. The
use of jargon is also affected by the way the johari window theory applies to this scene. In this scene,
the open pane of the assistant is very small and her hidden pane is large because she does not know
the orthodontist. One of the pieces of information lying in the hidden pane is her lack of understanding
of the jargon used in the scene. Her lack of comfortability with the orthodontist causes her to keep this
lack of knowledge in the hidden pane, shown by the narrator s statement, She didn t want to embarrass
herself by saying she did not know which wire is which... which lead her to hand Dr. Lipinsky the

When it comes to corruption in politics, no one is immune. Both parties have had their share. Not too
long ago three members of Congress who are Republican were indicted due to political and financial
scandals (Wallis, 2012). Two are currently under investigation and one is in prison (Wallis, 2012). Part
of the problem in these corruption scandals involves the ability of interest groups to determine policy
as well as pork barrel spending (Wallis, 2012). While corruption takes place at all levels of
government, it has been particularly noticeable in the U.S. Congress. In the United States, there are

A significant amount of energy is needed to heat water. Energy is required to heat water for washing

Strategies Synergies Reducing waste is the key strategies to reduce food water and energy waste. Food
water energy waste includes reducing meat production and consumption. Composting food waste is a
valuable resource which can be used to fertilize agricultural land depleted of its nutrients from
industrial farming. Food waste can also convert to biofuel which can generate electric used to

The Transcript For Think Tank
The transcript for Think Tank with Ben Wattenberg from September 16th 2004 on Does the U.N.
Work? is a debate with two opposing views one for and one against the United Nations. Timothy
Wirth the President of the United Nations Foundation, former U.S. Senator and former undersecretary
for global affairs at the U.S. Department of State goes against Josh Muravchik a scholar at the
American Enterprise Institute and author of Exporting Democracy: fulfilling America s Destiny, and,
The Imperative of American Leadership: A Challenge to Neoisolationism. Wirth argues for the UN
and Muravchik against. The central argument made by Muravchik is that the United Nations never
really became what it was meant to be. It was conceived as an institution that was to maintain world
peace but never could fulfill that role however, the United States itself is now the main power to keep
peace in the world. The attempt to counterbalance American power in Muravchik s opinion is
dangerous since it will cause the world to be much less peaceful since the U.S. is able to keep the
peace that the U.N can not do. On the contrary, Wirth argues that the U.N. a product of WW2 still is
inline with its original intention, to make sure nations get together and no single country is able to
impose its will on others. Wirth understands that times have changed and the U.N. is trying to
modernize itself in accordance to the modern world. Wirth does understand that countries will have
their own self interests

Forced Marriage In The Uk
Every single day, a lot of women and men, domestic and child, and person with disabilities becomes a
victim of forced marriage. Forced marriage is recognized in the UK as a form of violence and a
serious abuse of human rights. In Re K, A Local Authority v N, Munby J emphasis that forced
marriage is a gross abuse of human rights...It is a form of domestic violence that dehumanises people
by denying them their right to choose how to live their lives...no social or cultural imperative can
extenuate and no pretended recourse to religious belief can possibly justify forced marriage. As a civil

A special unit, the Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) is a joint initiative with the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office and Home Office. Most victims who contacted the FMU in 2015 were 329
(27%) involved victims below the aged of 18 and 427 (35%) relating to people aged between 18 and
25, the majority of cases 980 (80%) involved women ,but there should remain significant concern
about male victims, as reported numbers have 240 cases (20%) and the number of unreported cases is
of course unknown. FMU elaborated a clear definition that forced marriage is not the same as
arranged marriage, which is one where the families of both parties take a leading role in choosing a
marriage partner, but where the choice of whether or not to accept the arrangement remains with the
parties. Forced marriage is a marriage, which is conduct without the valid consent of one or both of
the parties and duress is involved, which recognised by UK courts to include physical pressure to

Educational Pension Benefits and Conflict Management Essay
Educational Pension Benefits
Although there is a plethora of possible sources of conflict in any workplace, the ones in this case are
rather explicit. These include personal differences, Informal deficiencies , role incompatibility,
environment stress, perceptions, and expectations. Personal differences could be related to personal
values, physiognomies, family bonds or ties, and material belongings.
Moreover, job performance, education, knowledge, and training tend to mold each individual in a
distinctive way and unfortunately, some personalities just do not mix. For instance, it is obvious that
some of the senior partners just did not agree with Mike Roth s personality and aggressive nature,
which caused a colossal clash within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, some of the senior partners did not approve of Roth s disorganization, loud antics, and
overzealous approach to business. Perception is how someone perceives, understands, and interprets
some aspect of his or her job, duties, tasks, and instructions. A good example of perception happened
when Roth assumed he had full disclosure and controls to do whatever it took to give the company the
needed economic boost it had been lacking. Expectation is the belief that something will happen or is
going to happen similar to the way Roth had an uncanny knack to predict certain business outcomes.
There are five common approaches to conflict management, which includes forcing, avoiding,
compromising, accommodating, and collaborating (Whetten, D. A., Cameron, K. S. 2011). The
forcing approach is both assertive and uncooperative and is an attempt to satisfy the individual s needs
at the expense of others. For example, Roth intentionally ignored company rules, regulations, and
wishes of the senior partners in regards to which projects should be completed first. It almost seemed
like Roth used a form of coercion against younger employees in order to get them to do tasks that he
felt had priority. This of course divided the workplace between his followers and non followers, which
upset the flow of activity and creativity within the workshop. The avoiding approach is always low on
both an aggressive and complaisant level, which means walking away from a

Our Knowledge Of Living Things Increases Essay
As our knowledge of living things increases, as we come to a deeper understanding of their life cycles,
their interactions with other organisms, and the manifold ways in which they adjust to the
environment, we become more fully aware of how each of them is carrying out its biological functions
according to the laws of its species specific nature. But besides this, our increasing knowledge and
understanding also develop in us a sharpened awareness of the uniqueness of each individual
organism. Scientists who have made careful studies of particular plants and animals, whether in the
field or in laboratories, have often acquired a knowledge of their subjects as identifiable individuals.
Close observation over extended periods of time has led them to an appreciation of the unique
personalities of their subjects. Sometimes a scientist may come to take a special interest in a particular
animal or plant, all the while remaining strictly objective in the gathering and recording of data.
Nonscientists may likewise experience this development of interest when, as amateur naturalists, they
make accurate observations over sustained periods of close acquaintance with an individual organism.
As one becomes more and more familiar with the organism and its behavior, one becomes fully
sensitive to the particular way it is living out its life cycle. One may become fascinated by it and even
experience some involvement with its good and bad fortunes (that is, with the occurrence of

My Brother Sam Is Dead By The Collier Brothers
In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by the Collier Brothers, the main character Tim Meeker is
divided within himself by war. Tim has seen war divide him with everything. His Father is a Loyalist,
and his brother is a Patriot. He hasn t chose his side so he is very confused. He admires his brother,
and is scared of his Father. If Tim were to make a decision it would drastically change the story. But,
he would be betraying one of his close family members. Since Tim is so divided do you think he will
make a big decision or stay neutral. Tim could be a Loyalist because the Loyalist save him. On page

For Colored Girls Essay
For colored girls (FCG) is Tyler Perry s adaption to Shange s first and most acclaimed, theater piece.
Shange s original work was not so much of a play with an ongoing plot; rather, it consist of a series of
emotional poetic monologues accompanied with dance movements and music. Shange called her work
a choreopoem. The original work by Shange and Perry s adaption deal with black feminism and what
it means to be a black women living in America. The poems deal with love, abandonment, domestic
violence, rape, and abortion, embodied by each woman s story. The end of the play brings together all

Many black feminist felt that Perry would goof it up and turn it into another Madea movie cash cow.
One article even stated that Oprah Winfrey, didn t even want him to make the film. Now I ve learned
that even Tyler s close pal Oprah Winfrey did not want him to make the film version of the iconic
1975 play by Ntozake Shange. And that her reaction echoed the outrage of many black females along
the lines of, How dare you! because the storyline is profoundly their story, not any man s, and
especially not his. (Nikki Finke, 2010).
Many black feminist were outrage because Shange s work is a landmark to black feminism and
African American Literature. People were also skeptical because prior to the release of the film, Tyler
Perry, had only done African American romantic comedies. Essentially, nobody thought he would be
able to stick to the script and produce a film with such a strong relatable message.
Real recognizing real. FCG is relatable to women of color because their stories are universal to black
women. Their stories are my stories. FCG gives a small voice to women who struggle with the color

my life, if I have the brains and perseverance to accomplish it . Annie Sullivan was at first looked

teaching Keller a blind and deaf child to properly behave and communicate. Although Sullivan faced
many obstacles while attempting to teach Keller the meaning of language, she was able to triumph

movement experientials (kinesthetic), KMP massage opportunities (tactile) to encourage multimodal
learning possibilities for understanding tension flow Attributes in the Kestenberg Movement Profile.
One video is a part of the recent KMP video project explaining all categories of the KMP system. The
second video shows dance/movement therapy in a High School with rural working class teenage
mothers and babies demonstrating a variety of temperaments. Along with tension flow rhythms,
another way that tension flow is classified in the KMP system is through its Attributes or intensity

Best MAMA Performances of 2017
Now that fan wars have finally die down, let s take a look at some of the best performances from Mnet

MAMA Hong Kong: The Force Of The Planet EXO
EXO performed The Eve , one the best non title track of the year by the way, and I got goosebump
while watching the live stage. The dance at the chorus has to be one of the sexiest choreographies of
the year. They didn t have to do much, but the slow hip thrust and their attitude/facial expressions
gave the song that smooth, sexy feel. I was dead after Kai s solo dance, and I am sure others were, too.
Gosh, Kai is such a talented dancer and he slayed that performance! Of course, they also performed
their two popular title track, Kokopop and Power. I like it when artists do something with their
performance at year end award shows with remixes of their songs. EXO s performance was definitely
one of the best performances of the night along with BTS.

I stayed up for MAMA Hong Kong just to watch the collaboration between Soyou and Chanyeol and I

The Learning ( Or Behaviourist ) Approach
The learning (or behaviourist) approach, at its core, is about how experience affects our behaviour and
how we learn behaviours. This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and we
become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the
observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal
workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable
behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based off
the research undertaken into behaviour. Unsurprisingly, the behaviourist approach works closely with
the experimental branch of psychology, and it also works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned
stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the
environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned, yet.
The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned stimulus at
the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response (i.e. neutral) is
associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned stimulus. Often, at
this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the conditioned stimulus on many
occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not always the case; if a neutral stimulus
produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not need to be strengthened over time,
because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the conditioned stimulus has been associated with
the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can produce a conditioned response. This association
can then be generalized to other, similar objects; as was shown in the Little Albert experiment
performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the white rat had been generalized to other similar furry

The History of Southwest Airlines
Introduction
The Southwest is a leading American air service and is the largest low priced service provider with the
base in Texas. The airline came to existence in 1976 and its name became Southwest in 1971.
According to an overview in 2014 the company has around 45k employees and around 3.4k flights are
operated each day. Mostly Southwest Airlines uses 737s, except in 1970s and 1980s, when it rented
some 727s from BI airlines. Over the last couple of years southwest is facing certain logistic issues,
which is not only damaging its reputation but also affecting its business strategies (Gittell, 2004).
Southwest airline is the biggest airline in the United States carrying more than. It is the sixth largest
US airline by revenue and maintains the second largest fleet of airliners of all commercial airlines

Heart Of Darkness Research Paper
Joseph Conrad sets various elements of his novel Heart of Darkness in opposition to each other to
reveal how Man, both knowingly and unknowingly, conceals a dark heart under a facade of
civilization. Some of the more pervasive opposites in his novel are control vs helplessness, civilization
vs savagery, and light vs darkness. Control vs helplessness Marlow and his fellow Europeans in
England believe that since their country has taken control of the Congo, their people by proxy have
complete influence over the lives of the Congolese. The irony is found in the fact that the Europeans
who come to the Congo to harvest its resources are subject to the influence of the African jungle once
they arrive, and are twisted in both mind and soul. Conrad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the Europeans, the Congolese are the epitome of savagery, with their brutish appearances and wild
songs and dances. However, speaker Marlow consistently notes how the Company men and other
whites are convinced in their more civilized culture, and yet fail to display the traits commonly
associated with refined society, such as fairness, altruism, unity, and hard work. They instead work the
Congolese like slaves and are uncaring of their suffering, preferring instead to attend to their own
desires; one example being the Chief Accountant, who cares for his appearance and neatly organizes
his workspace, yet ignores how the many black shapes [crouch]...clinging to the earth, half coming

The Europeans are consistently shown to be less humane than the Congalese, who are decent in
comparison. The irony displayed in the behavior of the two races suggests that the white men were
only better behaved when restrained by the rules of English society; with the removal of limits in the
Congo, their darker tendencies were loosed upon the Congolese and upon each

as a platform to improve the well being of all Canadians and raise awareness about health concerns
and innovative health strategies.
When did it start and why?
The CCHS is a joint effort of Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Statistics Canada,
and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). In 1991, the National Task Force on Health
Information highlighted various discrepancies with the collection and management of Canadian health
data. As a result, a Health Information Roadmap was constructed and a framework for the CCHS was
developed. The CCHS initiative began surveying in 2001, and, in 2015, the CCHS implemented a new
collection mandate resulting from a redesign project that included significant content modifications.

The Prairies Essay example
The term romantic is defined as literature depicting emotional matter in an imaginative form (Morner).
Romanticism was a cultural movement in the eighteenth century that had an impact on in many areas
including music, art, and literature. The movement that Romanticism put forth was so powerful that
today, scholars refer to it as a revolution that took place in rebellion against the austere views of
groups like the Puritans from the previous centuries. Many images of nature in the writing at this time,
as well as writers, encompass sympathetic interests in the past. One particular piece, William Cullen
Bryant s The Prairies captures an strong sympathetic look to the past.

Bryant shows his appreciation for those who come before in saying, Man s better nature triumphed
then. (L 79) After continual expansion of the American colonies, many Indian tribes were forced to
leave their native land and move westward. Bryant explains that this had a major impact on the mound
people, The red man came/ The roaming hunter tribes, warlike and fierce, / And the mound builders
vanished from the earth (L 58 61). Then Bryant becomes extremely compassionate for the vanquished
mound people when he says, All—save the piles of earth that hold their bones / The platforms where
they worshipped unknown gods / The barriers which they builded from the soil/ To keep the foe at
bay—till o er the walls/ The wild beleaguerers broke, and one by one, / The strong holds of the plain
were forced, and heaped/ With corpses (L 64 71). After taking over the prairies form the mound
people, the Indians then lived peacefully until they again come in contact with the colonists. The
colonist way on life is what again forces the Indians to leave because all of the bison had been killed.
Later in the poem Bryant then shows sympathetic feelings toward the Indians after their way of life
was changed by the colonists when he states, The white man s face—among Missouri s springs,/ And
pools whose issues swell the Oregan,/ He rears his little Venice. In the plains/ The bison feeds no more

Historical Background Of Hbcus Essay
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF HBCUs AND PWIs
INTRODUCTION:
There was discrimination between African Americans and Whites before the Civil War. At that time,
Colleges and Universities were established only to educate Whites; only Whites went to Colleges and
Universities. There was not any educational system for African Americans. After the civil war, to fill
the educational gap between Whites and African Americans, HBCUs were established. At a time when
Predominantly White Institutions(PWI) didn t allow African Americans to read in those Institutions,
HBUs offered the best opportunity for higher education. (Bush, George, President)

The mission of those private and public institutions was to provide knowledge for African Americans

In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the separate but equal doctrine and made a decision in
Brown v. Board of Education, and held that racially segregated public schools deprive African
American children of equal protection guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States
Constitution. (U.S. Supreme Court, 1954) Many public HBCUs merged with PWIs or closed. Most of
the African American students continued to attend after rendered the decision. ( Historically Black

Casta Painting Analysis
Casta Paintings refer to a pictorial genre developed in the early eighteen centuries in New Spain to
portray procreation. They are sequencing of images that illustrate the three major races that resided in
the Americas: Indigenes (indios), Spaniards (Españoles), and Africans (negros). The process of mixing
ancestries in the union of people of different races was known as mestizaje. Casta was a hierarchical
system of race classification created by Spanish elites in Hispanic America during the 18th century.
Casta paintings, produced for elite criollo audiences (those of Spanish ancestry born in the Americas),
bolstered economic and social inequality and legitimized a racial hierarchy that kept criollos at the
top. The whiter the heritage a person could claim, the higher in status they could claim, conversely,
darker features meant less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each scene depicts a man and a women and their offspring, accompanied by a label identifying each
person by a casta category to reflect their degree of racial mixing. As we begin to examine the series
of Casta paintings by the artist José de Alcíbar from the second half of the 18th century we explore the
relationship between visual and textual depictions of colonial space. In the Series of 16, No. 1:
Spaniard and Indian produce a Mestizo, we see that the Spaniard is depicted as a white male, the
Indian as a dark woman, and the child as a white Mestizo. As stated before, the whiter one is the
higher prestige they have as well as an economic and social equality. The way they are labeled also
demonstrates the hierarchy that keep the criollos at the top. The way they are dressed also depicts their
origin, having the child be dressed in all white to demonstrate similar

An Analysis of the Impact of the Internet on Competition in the Banking Industry, using Porter s Five
Forces Model
Irene Siaw The Open University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong AlecYu Cisco Systems (HK) Ltd, Hong
Kong The emergence of the Intemet has created both threats and opportunities for banking executives.
Those who are able to leverage competitive benefits from the Intemet are confronted with significant
business potential. The Internet has fundamentally changed traditional relationships and services

al 2000). Intemet banking refers to the use of the Intemet as a channel in the delivery of banking
products and services (Starita, 1999). Intemet banking and traditional PC banking differ with respect
to the application software resident on the user s computer and hence the requirement for ongoing
software upgrades and distributions. In most home banking ventures, the bank provides the customer
with an application software program (or PFM by customer) that operates on a customer s designated
PC. By contrast, with Intemet banking, potential customers already have the software they need to do
their banking services as application software resides on the bank s server in the form of the home
page. The Security First Network Bank (SFNB) in the United States inaugurated the world s first
transactional Web site on October 18, 1995. Since then, the number of Intemet banks has increased
significantly each year. In 1999, according to the Online Banking Report: The Tme US Intemet Batiks
(www.onlinebankingreport.com), the United States alone saw over 200 new Web based start ups
and/or spin offs from existing conventional banks.
Impact on the Competitive Landscape in the Banking Industry
Many research studies cu gue that Intemet banking will be the predominant trend in the future of the
banking industry (Birch Young, 1997; Humphreys, 1998; Crede, 1998; Franco Klein, 1999; Brennand,
1999; Cisco, 1999). The FS Intemet Value Creation

  • 2. In The Stories Of Eva Luna By Isabel Allende In the unique position of being both related to the Marxist president whose reign preceded that of Augusto Pinochet, and a woman in an increasingly gender sensitive society, Isabel Allende witnessed much of the tragedy that befell Latin America in the late 1900 s. Allende made it her task to combine elements of the magical and absurd with her own struggles, and those of society under oppressive rule and stereotypes. She ultimately acted as an influential supporter of women s empowerment, and she harnessed this desire for equality and strength through her own literary work. In her 1989 collection of short stories entitled The Stories of Eva Luna, she takes a peculiar, yet transcendent stance on the reality of women s lives within the ... However, by way of the crippling two words that she whispers to him, the power that was thought to lie in the figure of the Colonel comes to lie entirely in the more prudent Belisa. Similarly, in the story, If You Touched My Heart, Amadeo Peralta has complete control of Hortesina, locking her up in a cell for his aesthetic pleasure and, because he felt like it. The same external, intergender powerplay is found in many of the stories in this collection. Additionally, a theme of agony and despair penetrates these stories, and characters find themselves in situations they have little control over. Other terms used to describe this phenomenon are secondary trauma, stress or secondary victimization (figley, 1982). At the heart of this issue, is that social workers, therapists, first responders, volunteers, that work with trauma victims/survivors can experience vicarious trauma, or compassion fatigue because of the work they do, and love. Compassion fatigue is the emotional residue from the exposure of hearing trauma stories over and over until your heart and head is full until the caller/client s trauma becomes your experience too. The difference between them is that burnout builds up gradually over time and resolves itself when the volunteer or practitioner takes a break or goes to other work, even in the same field. • 6. Why China s Fall Would Have On The Global Economy Using the elements of PEST analysis as a framework discuss what impact you consider China s fall would have on the global economy. The Chinese economy can be viewed as the cornerstone of the global economy. The current global GDP, measured in purchasing power parity of nearly 60%, as well as current international rate of growth at more than 80%, is primarily accounted for by China and other neighbouring middle income countries, such as India or Vietnam.[1] These numbers are significant in understanding our global economy, which is widely interconnected through alliances of trade, laws and finance, thereby affecting our daily lives politically, economically, socially and technologically.[2] With recent analysis indicating that China s growth has declined to about 6.8% by the end of 2015[3], how would a crash in China s economy affect the global market? Following the 2008 2009 global economic crash, emerging markets like China with a rapid growth rate were presumed to safeguard the larger economies of the European Union, Japan and the United States. As China expanded its industrial revolution with an unprecedented annual growth rate and increased international trade, many countries in particular Germany benefited economically. Germany became one of China s main suppliers for technology that it required in order to produce goods, as well as luxury products such as cars for the new money generation of entrepreneurs; Chinese buying power currently makes up 6.6% of Germany s ... • 10. Cursive Writing In Public Schools Should cursive writing be taught to students in public schools? Personally, I believe cursive writing is a bit outdated in a sense. But I do not see it as a roadblock to any stepping stones if students were taught cursive writing. There are several facts and statements that add to the support of my opinion. Cursive writing is seen as outdated in sorts due to the quickly developing technological world. In 2012, a survey was conveyed amongst handwriting teachers and come to find out only 37% of the teachers used cursive writing. Computer skills and typing are crucial in todays world. Cursive was once used as a form of identification, people s signatures were valued. Where in todays world, signatures are not always used. We now have digital passwords, as well as thumbprints to verify identity. I would argue that cursive writing is proven to help stimulate both the left and right sides of the human brain, while as typing and print do not. It is believed that handwriting goes hand in hand with brain injuries. Tests showed that some people who had suffered brain injuries that affected their writing, typing, or print, could still write in cursive. This directly proves that cursive, type, and print use different sections of the brain. Clark offers several key concepts towards his line of reasoning. Clark argues that a human being thinks and reasons based on the biological brain and body dynamically linked with the culture and technological tools transparently accessible to the human. Clark asserts that isolation is a matter of perspective, and that as it appears the boy is alone, he is actually spending quality time in his chosen community that is brought together only through the power of technology. He contends that this may expand our embodied awareness, In a strange way, we may even come to better appreciate the value and significance of our normal bodily presence by exploring such alternatives. Not disembodiment, then, so much as a deeper understanding of why the body matters and of the space of possible bodies and perspectives. Not isolation so much as a wider and less geocentric kind of community. (Clark, 194) The argument strategy that Clark employs is similar to a critiquing strategy where he clearly defines his opponent s concern(s), usually by the use of a real world example. After he has made the reader well aware of his opponent s concern(s), he generally uses the same example to tactfully pitch his proposal as a solution to eliminate or neutralize the concern. The proposal is based on one of two sources, his personal beliefs or observations and theories based on his research and comprehensive knowledge of humans, technology, and society. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee introduces literary devices to address the racial tensions that still continue in the South during the 1960 s. The conflict in this story is external because it incorporates how the black community is severely criticized by the other residents in Maycomb, Alabama. These racial tensions caused many black people to be accused of to cleanse the south and return it to how it originally was. Work? is a debate with two opposing views one for and one against the United Nations. Timothy Wirth the President of the United Nations Foundation, former U.S. Senator and former undersecretary for global affairs at the U.S. Department of State goes against Josh Muravchik a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and author of Exporting Democracy: fulfilling America s Destiny, and, The Imperative of American Leadership: A Challenge to Neoisolationism. Wirth argues for the UN and Muravchik against. The central argument made by Muravchik is that the United Nations never really became what it was meant to be. It was conceived as an institution that was to maintain world peace but never could fulfill that role however, the United States itself is now the main power to keep peace in the world. The attempt to counterbalance American power in Muravchik s opinion is dangerous since it will cause the world to be much less peaceful since the U.S. is able to keep the peace that the U.N can not do. On the contrary, Wirth argues that the U.N. a product of WW2 still is inline with its original intention, to make sure nations get together and no single country is able to impose its will on others. Wirth understands that times have changed and the U.N. is trying to modernize itself in accordance to the modern world. Wirth does understand that countries will have their own self interests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, some of the senior partners did not approve of Roth s disorganization, loud antics, and overzealous approach to business. Perception is how someone perceives, understands, and interprets some aspect of his or her job, duties, tasks, and instructions. A good example of perception happened when Roth assumed he had full disclosure and controls to do whatever it took to give the company the needed economic boost it had been lacking. Expectation is the belief that something will happen or is going to happen similar to the way Roth had an uncanny knack to predict certain business outcomes. There are five common approaches to conflict management, which includes forcing, avoiding, compromising, accommodating, and collaborating (Whetten, D. A., Cameron, K. S. 2011). The forcing approach is both assertive and uncooperative and is an attempt to satisfy the individual s needs at the expense of others. For example, Roth intentionally ignored company rules, regulations, and wishes of the senior partners in regards to which projects should be completed first. It almost seemed like Roth used a form of coercion against younger employees in order to get them to do tasks that he felt had priority. This of course divided the workplace between his followers and non followers, which upset the flow of activity and creativity within the workshop. The avoiding approach is always low on both an aggressive and complaisant level, which means walking away from a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our Knowledge Of Living Things Increases Essay As our knowledge of living things increases, as we come to a deeper understanding of their life cycles, their interactions with other organisms, and the manifold ways in which they adjust to the environment, we become more fully aware of how each of them is carrying out its biological functions according to the laws of its species specific nature. But besides this, our increasing knowledge and understanding also develop in us a sharpened awareness of the uniqueness of each individual organism. Scientists who have made careful studies of particular plants and animals, whether in the field or in laboratories, have often acquired a knowledge of their subjects as identifiable individuals. Close observation over extended periods of time has led them to an appreciation of the unique personalities of their subjects. Sometimes a scientist may come to take a special interest in a particular animal or plant, all the while remaining strictly objective in the gathering and recording of data. Nonscientists may likewise experience this development of interest when, as amateur naturalists, they make accurate observations over sustained periods of close acquaintance with an individual organism. As one becomes more and more familiar with the organism and its behavior, one becomes fully sensitive to the particular way it is living out its life cycle. One may become fascinated by it and even experience some involvement with its good and bad fortunes (that is, with the occurrence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and we become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based off the research undertaken into behaviour. The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned, yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response (i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects; as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the white rat had been generalized to other similar furry animals and ... Furthermore, the effective utilization of the CCHS can serve as a platform to improve the well being of all Canadians and raise awareness about health concerns and innovative health strategies. When did it start and why? The CCHS is a joint effort of Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Statistics Canada, and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). In 1991, the National Task Force on Health Information highlighted various discrepancies with the collection and management of Canadian health data. As a result, a Health Information Roadmap was constructed and a framework for the CCHS was developed. The CCHS initiative began surveying in 2001, and, in 2015, the CCHS implemented a new collection mandate resulting from a redesign project that included significant content modifications. Cross sectional Survey v. Longitudinal A cross sectional survey is conducted at a single point in time and analyzes the prevalence of selected topics. Romanticism was a cultural movement in the eighteenth century that had an impact on in many areas including music, art, and literature. The movement that Romanticism put forth was so powerful that today, scholars refer to it as a revolution that took place in rebellion against the austere views of groups like the Puritans from the previous centuries. (L 79) After continual expansion of the American colonies, many Indian tribes were forced to leave their native land and move westward. Bryant explains that this had a major impact on the mound people, The red man came/ The roaming hunter tribes, warlike and fierce, / And the mound builders vanished from the earth (L 58 61). Then Bryant becomes extremely compassionate for the vanquished mound people when he says, All—save the piles of earth that hold their bones / The platforms where they worshipped unknown gods / The barriers which they builded from the soil/ To keep the foe at bay—till o er the walls/ The wild beleaguerers broke, and one by one, / The strong holds of the plain were forced, and heaped/ With corpses (L 64 71). After taking over the prairies form the mound people, the Indians then lived peacefully until they again come in contact with the colonists. The colonist way on life is what again forces the Indians to leave because all of the bison had been killed. Later in the poem Bryant then shows sympathetic feelings toward the Indians after their way of life was changed by the colonists when he states, The white man s face—among Missouri s springs,/ And pools whose issues swell the Oregan,/ He rears his little Venice. In the plains/ The bison feeds no more (L 95 98). William Cullen Bryant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Casta Painting Analysis Casta Paintings refer to a pictorial genre developed in the early eighteen centuries in New Spain to portray procreation. They are sequencing of images that illustrate the three major races that resided in the Americas: Indigenes (indios), Spaniards (Españoles), and Africans (negros). The process of mixing ancestries in the union of people of different races was known as mestizaje. Casta was a hierarchical system of race classification created by Spanish elites in Hispanic America during the 18th century. Casta paintings, produced for elite criollo audiences (those of Spanish ancestry born in the Americas), bolstered economic and social inequality and legitimized a racial hierarchy that kept criollos at the top. Intemet banking refers to the use of the Intemet as a channel in the delivery of banking products and services (Starita, 1999). Intemet banking and traditional PC banking differ with respect to the application software resident on the user s computer and hence the requirement for ongoing software upgrades and distributions. In most home banking ventures, the bank provides the customer with an application software program (or PFM by customer) that operates on a customer s designated PC. By contrast, with Intemet banking, potential customers already have the software they need to do their banking services as application software resides on the bank s server in the form of the home page. The Security First Network Bank (SFNB) in the United States inaugurated the world s first transactional Web site on October 18, 1995. Since then, the number of Intemet banks has increased significantly each year. In 1999, according to the Online Banking Report: The Tme US Intemet Batiks (www.onlinebankingreport.com), the United States alone saw over 200 new Web based start ups and/or spin offs from existing conventional banks.
