Analysis Of The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven...
Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Peter A. Levine, Ph.D. In
Sherman Alexie s collection of short stories, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, we
read stories of Native American struggles for survival in an American society designed to keep
Native Americans locked in the cycle of intergenerational trauma. Alexie illustrates the importance
of rejecting intergenerational trauma as a method of survival, by isolating the two main causes
intergenerational trauma becomes inescapable and giving examples that showcase the impact of
attempting to survive the cycle. Through the interpretation of multiple sources, it becomes clear
that the inescapability of intergenerational trauma is the outcome of internalized oppression and
pessimism.
Internalized oppression is just one factor that contributes to the inescapability of intergenerational
trauma. Alexie uses figurative language to demonstrate that the cycle of oppression is further
perpetuated by the concept of racial inferiority, poverty, and failure to achieve an education in his
short story The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn t Flash Red Anymore . The main
character, Victor, sits on the porch with his friend Adrian as they reminisce their past and hope for
others futures. Victor claims that Indians [could] easily survive the big stuff... It s the small things
that hurt the most. The white waitress who wouldn t take an order, Tonto, the Washington Redskins

Leadership Transition Essay
Studying leadership encompasses a broad range of perspective and ways of thought. Leadership in
the context of community engagement is particularly interesting due to its relevance to fostering
community partnerships and performing relevant and useful service. Relationships between a
group and a community partner who have a need to be fulfilled is best kept in working order to
allow the best engagement and benefit possible. I specifically chose to investigate the leadership
transition, since it is highly relevant to particularly senior studentleaders. Furthermore, I chose to
approach my interviews and analysis using the socially responsible leadership model. This model
popularized by Dugan frames leadership in college students as... Show more content on

One student after tapping the new leaders remarked, I don t think it was their first choice, like they
would ve volunteered themselves for it. This sentiment reveals the disadvantages of using this
form of choosing new leaders. Another student leader expressed that he would have rather had an
election or nomination: I wish more people in our club knew each other better, cause I think that
would help with a voting or campaigning I guess to be the leader. But we meet so infrequently.
Number of students can influence the choosing process, but this student leader pointed to a lack of
group cohesion. His comment suggests that more group bonding or strengthening activities would
have allowed him to conduct an election, but that was not possible this year. Additionally all
student leaders that were interviewed were also originally chosen to their position via this method
as well. This points to a reproduction of past leadership transition techniques and the difficulty in
breaking those in certain organizations. All in all, there are certainly barriers to choosing new
leaders, and a lack of interest and cohesion from group members seemed to be the most pressing
matters.
Communication The most meaningful communication seemed to arise from face to face
interactions within leadership transition. One of the community partners spoke of having potlucks
with her leaders and the importance

Charles Manson Accomplishments
Charles Manson was an illegitimate, unplanned child, born to a 16 year old mother. His mother
was irresponsible, into drugs and criminal activity, and unable to care for a child. She reportedly
sold him when he was a young child for a pitcher of beer (Henderson). Sounds like an amazing
childhood, right. Wrong. Charles Mansonwas bounced around from house to house, and because
of that, his childhood was not that great. Because of his nerve wrecking childhood, Manson was
bound to be a criminal. As the years went by and time took its course, Manson decided that he
wanted to take a new turn in life and become a star.
All Charles Manson wanted to be was a music sensation and this was his opportunity. One day in
1968, two teenage girls were hitch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Manson was soon introduced. Now, Manson had already spent 12 years of his life in prison
(Jolly). His offenses ranged from pimping and the theft of government checks to grand theft auto
and rape (Henderson). During the time that Dennis and Charlie started talking and hanging out
more during his stay at the Wilson home. They soon found out that both of them had a passion for
music. Once Wilson and Manson started discussing about their music abilities, they started writing
music together. Dennis once said, I told them [the girls] about our involvement with the
Maharishi and they told me they too had a guru, a guy named Charlie who d recently come out of
jail after 12 years. He drifted into crime, but when I met him, I found he had great musical ideas.

Ramification In Toni Morrison s Beloved
The Personal and Collective Implications and Ramifications of Paul D s Recuperative Journey
toward Self Reclamation in Morrison s Beloved
Toni Morrison s prime supporting character, Paul D, embarks upon a physical, emotional, and
spiritual journey in the novel Beloved that ultimately culminates in personal, familial, and in terms
of the larger historical ex slave community collective ramifications. Via Morrison s cyclical mode
of narration, Paul D progresses geographically from the Kentucky slave plantation ironically
designated Sweet Home , to a Georgian prison in which he serves time toiling on a chain gang, and
finally, to main character Sethe s spiritually besieged home in post Civil War Cincinnati.
Emotionally and philosophically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the reader again comes into contact with Paul D, he is psychologically equipped to
resume his journey of recuperation and self reconciliation. Upon returning to Sethe and
discovering that the ghostly Beloved has departed (perhaps for good), Paul is finally able to
reach his the end of his journey of absolution. The ex slave who once dwelled solely in the past
and shunned all aspects of human intimacy, rekindles hope simultaneously both in the broken
Sethe and in himself. When Sethe laments that she has again lost her best thing , Paul D
responds, You your best thing (Morrison Ch. 28). Further exemplifying his newfound sense of
identity and emancipation, Paul D asserts to Sethe: Me and you, we got more yesterday than
anybody. We need some kind of tomorrow (Morrison Ch. 28). While Paul D s 18 year journey
from the unspeakable atrocities of Sweet Home to the new beginning with the woman he has
always loved is momentous in and of itself, it is apparent that Morrison is utilizing Paul D as a
microcosm of the larger, post Civil War black community. Ultimately, Beloved is a book that
champions the notion that confrontation of and reconciliation of one s past is a cathartic and
necessary step to securing some kind of

What Is Thoreau s Time At Walden Pond
Many of the major literary tools that we have encountered throughout our analysis of famous
works were found in Henry David Thoreau s Walden. Walden is a personal story of Thoreau s
time at Walden Pond; he tells us about his experiences, both spiritually and physically. He analyzes
the nature and settings around him, finding multiple meanings in everything. Thoreau was a true
transcendentalist of his time, writing on many different levels in all of his works. I perceive that
we inhabitants of New England live this mean life that we do because our vision does not
penetrate the surface of things. We think that that is which appears to be. This is true when one
reads any works from Thoreau. In order to fully comprehend Thoreau s works, the... Show more

He describes both the depth and the purity of the pond, which is a symbol for human nature as
well. Since he comments: I am thankful that this pond was made deep and pure for a symbol , it s
clear that these features assume a spiritual and moral meaning. Since he is interested with depth
concerning Walden Pond, he comes up with a plan to figure out how deep the pond is. Thoreau
ponders why people claim the pond is bottomless when he figures out it is actually one hundred
feet deep. He comes to the conclusion that people need to believe in infinity. The symbolic
meaning of depth is suggested when he urges: Let us work and wedge our feet downward
through the mud and slush of opinion, and prejudice, and tradition and appearance till we come
to a hard bottom and rocks in place, which we can call reality Thoreau claims humans need a
depth of thought in order to reflect and go beyond the surface of things to reach the essential
facts of life. Thoreau describes a purity of the Walden Pond that sets it apart from other ponds.
Walden is described as a mirror in which all impurity presented to it sinks . Thoreau puts an
emphasis on the purity of the pond; this could be due to Thoreau s fear of physical
contamination, due to the railroad being so close, as well as intellectual contamination, since he
feels society is poisoned. Thoreau himself tries to purify his spirit and rid himself of his animal
nature, to reunite the spiritual world with the natural world. He abandons his old life and society
s corrupting influences by going to the woods and living simply. He does so with the tranquility
of Walden Pond and his bean field. Given these peculiar features, it appears evident that the pond
has a divine nature which is shown in two ways: as the medium of divine expression and as a
mirror which reflects the spirituality of mankind and the

Snow Falling On Cedars
In order for a human being to achieve true enlightenment, they must strive towards blissful
ignorance. David Guterson s, Snow Falling on Cedars involves protagonist Hatsue Imada, and her
spouse Kabuo Miyamoto. Kabuo, a World War two veteran, is trialled in court, the guilt weighing
him heavily. Guterson makes the racism against the Japanese evident throughout the novel, and the
impacts it has towards Japanese Americans. Ursula Kroeber Le Guin s short story, The Ones Who
Walk Away From Omelas takes place in the quaint, utopian city of Omelas, and the disasters that
lurk beneath. The happiness of the citizens relies solely on the misery of a single child, locked
away and hidden from the rest of civilization. The short story looks at an interesting... Show more

David Guterson wrote Hatsue s cultural journey as rough and uncomfortable, as the tension
between the Americans and Japanese were strong, and Hatsue was on the brink of finding herself
and where she belonged. Hatsue quoted, I don t want to be Japanese, and felt tired in her skin.
Guterson portrayed that Hatsue found it easier to deny her culture, than to accept the truth of the
matter that her boyfriend is an American essentially the enemy . The American s and the
Japanese thought it simpler to feud with each other, than to admit to being afraid of one another.
Guterson explained, The whites, you see, are tempted by their egos and have no means to resist,
and went on further to quote, We Japanese ...bend our egos, all of the time, and that is where we
differ. The two cultures found that ignoring ways in which they would be able to fix their
problems, and instead showing acts of blunt racism, left both parties at peace. They both had their
prejudices, and sought it easier to act on it than do anything to fix it. A similar problem is faced in
Omelas, as Guin quotes, Their tears at the bitter injustice dry when they begin to perceive the
terrible justice of reality, and to accept it. The citizens of Omelas were content to distance
themselves from the thought of the mistreated boy, and to acknowledge the matter for what it is,
and move on. The boy s distraught feelings

They are formed when in a melted or gelatinous phase. They are heated, formed, and then cooled in
their final shape.
Advantages: Thermoplastics have a decent range of properties and are energy efficient each in their
manufacture and process. Thermoplastic parts are often created in very high volume with high
preciseness and low cost. Thermoplastics may replace metals with a substantial weight savings,
providing correct care is taken in its design. Most thermoplastics have better fatigue properties than
metals and can tolerate larger deflections than metals without deforming.
Disadvantages: Thermoplastics melt. Some degrade in direct sunlight or underneath high U.V. light
levels. Several materials have poor resistance to hydrocarbons, organic solvents, and extremely
polar solvents however others have great resistance to those materials. Thermoplastics suffer from
creep, a relaxation of the material from long term loading. Several thermoplastic materials,
particularly composites, tend to fracture instead of deform beneath high stress levels.

How Does Anne Frank Overcome Adversity
A person whom I have read about who had to overcome significant adversities in her life is Anne
Frank. As a comparison, I feel as though Anne Frank and I are somewhat similar, yet also very
different. This is why I chose her for this writing sample. She is someone who has gone through
significant adversity in her life and has had both unlike and yet somewhat relatable experiences
to myself. Anne Frank and I are in a very similar age group. She was in hiding for 2 years and
died when she was 16. Which means she first went into hiding, when she was 14. This is where
she faced her most significant adversity. She was 14 when her experience started and 16 when it
was overcome. I am 15 years old, therefore, my age is between both of Anne Frank s biggest

Competitiveness, Strategy, And Productivity
Chapter 2: Competitiveness, Strategy, and Productivity To begin with, Chapter two covers three
important aspects of the business world which are competitiveness, strategy, and also productivity.
These particular aspects are very important for any company to succeed in the world of business.
With that being stated, any type of firm such as a manufacturer or a service provider, they must
employ these three aspects because they play an important role in growing revenues. For an
organization to even be considered successful, they must have a competitive advantage which leads
to a strategy that will meet the company s goals, while having the knowledge ability to help
produce the goods and services in a cost effective manner. Also, it is known that most organizations
have a single state called the Mission Statement. The mission statement basically summarizes these
three aspects of a company. One question that the Mission Statement should address is, What level
of business are we in? This mission statement is categorized as the absolute basis for the
organizational goals. Furthermore, this particular topic helps the business world in so many ways.
Competitiveness, Strategy, and Productivity are the three important characteristics of any business.
Competitiveness in this chapter refers to the effectiveness of an organization in the marketplace
similar to the other operations that offer familiar products or services. Strategy is known to denote

begins. Most drug rehab centers will help you qualify your benefits prior to scheduling your stay.
The entry requirements
Whether you re a new or a relapsing client, support groups and information sessions like Drug
Rehab Center in FL will always accept you. The only entry requirement is to abstain from drug or
alcohol use when you begin the program. Abstinence is not always requirement for psychological
program, but medical programs require abstinence because of the detoxification effects.
Know the philosophy of treatment
Whether it s spiritual, mental or physical, you must agree with the program s philosophy. All
addiction treatments have different philosophies. The Good Future Rehab Center of Florida uses a
12 step approach.
The time and duration of stay
Contrary to the stereotypes, many people continue to work full time or part time. Good Future
Rehab Center offers either a full time residential program where staying in the center for 24 hours
a day for weeks or months is needed or a part time outpatient basis where only a few hours are
required per day.
Choosing an Addiction Treatment Center is only the beginning. When the addicted person decides

The Importance Of Light
Francis Bacon once said, In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.
This shows that you truly cannot have or see a good thing without also knowing what bad looks
like. There are billions of people in this world, the best and brightest people are those people who
have overcome that darkness. Those people know what darkness is and have experienced it first
hand, therefore they shine so much brighter. These people who have seen darkness and who shine
so bright because of it are a guide for those who may be waiting in the darkness. Like a lighthouse
does for ships at night or like the stars and moon do for travelers. Without darkness, there would be
no need for guidance or change. There would be no point in having stars, lighthouses, or unique
bright people.
Take the life of Jesus for example, this man was born in a manger surrounded by dirty animals.
He never sinned a day in his life, yet he constantly received hate from those around them. People
hated him so much that they hung him upon a cross, which is one of the most excoriatingly
painful ways to die. He had nails driven into his hands and feet, a crown made of thorns forced
down onto his head, and he had to hang there for hours as he slowly suffocated. This man knew
darkness better than anyone, yet he is still a light or lighthouse for all people. John 1:5 states, The
light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. John 8:12 it says, When Jesus
spoke again to the

Analysis Of Mark And The Gospel Of Matthew
In the Bible, several verses convey the same event or message that is told in another verse, but
the context or delivery of the story or message differs from each other, because the authors want
to convey a different message in each scene. An example of an event conveyed in two different
verses is Mark 6:45 52 and Matthew 14:22 33. Both verses recall the events of The Walking on the
Water. To summarize the scene, the Walking on Water is about the events immediately after the
Feeding of the Five Thousand where Jesusprays on a mountain. Eventually, the disciples struggle
with a storm, and Jesus is able to catch up with them by walking on the water. At first, the disciples
believe that Jesus is a ghost, but he is able to convince them that he indeed walked on the water. As
the storm calms down, Jesus has his doubts about whether the disciples understand the miracles.
It is noted that the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Matthew tells various events in a different
manner or perspective, and have an effect on how The Walking on the Water is retold.
Concerning the complete Gospel of Mark, The story is told with an unusual urgency (Powell, p.
40), and Emphasize Jesus s deeds over his words (Powell, p. 41). In terms of theology, this presents
people in general in a neutral fashion, while presenting Jesus as a god, and less as a person.
In comparison to the Gospel of Mark, The fulfillment of prophecy is an important theme in
Matthew (Powell, p. 69), and the

Height Of A Marble Essay
We designed an investigation to find the answer to the question How does the height of a marble
affect the work it does on the cup? The question explores how the height has an affect on the
amount of work done on the cup and the amount of gravitational potential the marble has. We
tested this by creating an experiment in which we dropped a marble down a ramp to hit and
move a cup while testing the different heights we collected the data of how far the cup moved and
used it to create a trend and a claim that resolved the objective question. The claim, which is the
general statement of conclusion as of the result of an experiment, is the higher the height of an
object the more gravitational potential (GPE) it has and the more work that will be done on the
object hit. So in this case that higher the marble is dropped from the more... Show more content on

30 cm in height with an average of 95 cm of movement from the cup, 20 cm in height with an
average of 62.7 cm in movement, and 10 cm in height and an average movement of 34.8 cm.
This data proves and supports the trend as with the increase of height the average distance of
movement from the cup increases as the trend stated it would. This trend in a way was also
backed by Galileo Galilei as he found that the longer an object falls the faster it moves, with an
increase of velocity being 32 ft or 9.8 m per second. As the object is moving faster that means an
increase in in kinetic energy and with an increase in kinetic energy comes an increase in the
collision force or amount of work done on the object hit. This increase in kinetic energy is also
seen in the increase of mass, when the mass grows as does the kinetic energy, where on collision
they made a bigger impact with mass. So it s as a whole not the change in mass or height, but the
increase or decrease in kinetic energy caused by the change in mass or height or any other given

criminal investigations because it can help investigators figure out exactly who the guilty party is
and it would eliminate false accusations. More than 2,000 people have been exonerated of serious
crimes since 1989 in the United States, according to a report by college researchers who have

Tibetan Ritual Deer Mask Dance
The Elements of the Masked Dancer The Tibetan Ritual Deer Mask Dance is a rarity to most
other dances. As most dances, the stage starts out pitch black dark and the spotlight turns directly
onto the dancer. This performance is shown by only one dancer yet four people are on the stage as
well. The other four people on the stage were preforming live musicfor the masked dancer which is
rare. The music started out at a slow beat that was felt directly into the placement of the dancers
footsteps as he makes his way to center stage. As the steady beat helped travel the dancer to the
center of the stage, the musicians then switched to syncopated rhythms. As the syncopated rhythms
would play, the performer would become more rigid in his movements. The dancer would use his
wrists in sharp motions as if jerking his hands to the new beat. Also, the dancer would start off by
rolling his neck in circles and this motion would transition into quick turns. The turns would start
off in the squatting position and end up all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

backdrop and scenery might have helped wrap the audiences head around the purpose of this
masked deer dance. As the dancer performed with a deer mask, this could allude to be seen as a
ritual thanking the gods for the animal that was provided. Just like the deer, no beat of the song
was missed or unused by the dancer. Every beat was heard by the masked performer and used to
his full extent to show the story of Tibetan Rituals. What was normally performed regularly in a
village, is now being performed on a stage to inform the audience and to keep traditions

What Does Gait Analysis Means
Gait means locomotion and evaluating locomotion by professionals is called gait analysis. Pattern
of walking differ from one individual to another. A gait cycle consists of the activities that occur
from the point of initial contact of one lower extremity to the point at which the same extremity
contacts the ground again There are 2 phases of walking: stance phase ii. Swing phase. Stance
phase covers from heels strike to toe. In this phase foot is on ground which acts as a shock
absorber. Swing phase is non weight bearing phase in which weight is only on one foot during
walking. Gait constitutes movement of whole body which involves biomechanical abnormalities
like running, skipping, hopping etc. Gait analysis is performed by physiotherapist,

Analysis Of Blink Once
Title: The title of the book is Blink Once. The title doesn t exactly fit with what the book is about,
but I do have an understanding as to why the author might have titled it Blink Once. That being that
before you know your life can change right before your eyes.
Author: The author of this book is Cylin Busby. I have not read any of her other books.
Genre: Blink Once is a fictional, mystery, and romance book. This book sparked my interest
because mystery and romances are favorite genres. I would recommend this book to someone who
likes romance but not a sappy love story. It s more of a mystery with a slight twist of romance.
Characters: Although there were a reasonable amount of characters in the story, there were only
two that were important and consistent throughout the book. The others didn t have much of an
impact into the story.
West is the main characterof the book. He a young teen in high school who was also a biker,
unfortunately he ends up in the hospital after a terrible accident that left him paralyzed. He now has
to adjust to new changes while living a hospital, but little did he know he would meet someone
extremely important to him.
Olivia use to be a dancer and she is also admitted into the hospital for an eating disorder that she is
trying to overcome. Olivia and West build an incredible relationship while admitted in the hospital,
but unfortunately Olivia ends up in an unpredictable situation that cuts their relationship short.

19th Century Photography Research Paper
The Influence Of Realism In 19th Century Photography
Through research of 19th century photography and Realism this paper will set out to prove that the
realism movement helped influence photography. It will do this by going in to detail what Realism
is, how 19th century photography worked, and how they are similar and different. This will be

establish a strong case for how Realism had an influence on photography.

The artist of this painting, Gustave Courbet, was one of the first artist to call himself a Realist
(1819 1877). This painting is a picture of a young man and an old man crushing rocks to
produce the gravel used for the roadbeds. These stonebreakers represent the disenfranchised
lower class on whose backs the modern life was being built upon. The young man in the painting
is struggling to move the large basket of rocks to the side of the road. He is wearing a ripped
shirt and pants, but his working boots are more modern. The older gentleman, is knelt down,
tired from the work. He is breaking the rocks, while wearing the outfit of a lower class man.
What the older man was wearing is the more traditional style of a peasant with his wooden shoes.
The younger man is almost representing a grim of the future, while the older man shows a more
out of date, or the rural past. Courbet said when talking about his inspiration for this painting is
that One side is a an old man seventy... On the other side is a young fellow... In labor such as
this, one s life begins that way, and it ends the same way. (Stokstad 973) Courbet does a great job
of signifying the brutality of the modern life with his choices of dull, and dark colors, as well as a
more rough painting patters, he uses awkward poses and stilted composition. The painting seem

Cultural Secrecy Breed s Suspicion
Due to their ambiguity secretive religions open themselves up to many misconceptions and
issues especially when concerning the law. In my research paper I will identify a religion that
has had problems arise due to their secretive nature. I popular culture secrecy breed s suspicion.
Religion in particular is expected in the west to be open, honest and welcoming, based largely
on the model of Christianity. Plenty of religions involve secrecy, where believers are told things
forbidden to outsiders, and where further information is often revealed in stages as believers rise
through the ranks. With religion there are lot of reasons for secrecy, to avoid outsiders
obtaining sacred knowledge only privy to people in a certain religion or occult. Most religions
believe that knowledge is sacred and to be shared with only insiders in the religion who
wholehearted believe and respect the religion. I recall as a child I was apart of a free Mason
group called Order of the Eastern Star. We had weekly meetings and before the meetings
adjourned we were reminded that we could not let anyone know what happen in the meeting, not
even our mother, which to say did not sit well with her. The information that is shared often is not
highly classified, but with many religious groups it s more so about inclusiveness. Because you
are apart of this particular group you are included in something bigger than yourself, which is what
some people search for in religion. On the on the side of secrets

Comparing Aristotle s Virtue Ethics And J. S. Mill
The first thing is to talk about what is ethics? Understanding it is the best thing to do. Ethical

Death Of Romeo And Juliet
I believe that there is nothing you can do to prevent your death, many people could argue that
Romeo and Juliet could have done many things differently to prevent their deaths. Here are a
few things many people believe they could have done to prolong their lives: Romeo did not have
to kill Tybalt, Romeo could have stayed in Mantua and waited on the priest, and a very good idea
would have been that they could have aloaked and ran away. First of all, Romeo did not have to
kill Tybalt, because the Prince was going to kill him anyway, as a punishment for murdering
Mercutio. I can see how some people think Romeo did the right thing by killing Tybalt. Tybalt did

Family Guy Is An American Sitcom
Texas Longhorns football fans often use a specific hand gesture when rooting for their team; by
holding up the fore and pinkie fingers while keeping the middle and ring fingers down, using the

The French Revolution In Haiti
Haiti splits the island of Hispaniola with its neighbor, the Dominican Republic in the Greater
Antilles of the Caribbean Sea. Established by Spain in 1492, control of Haiti was ceded to the
French and the island began to flourish under its new rulers. The slave trade played an enormous
part of the country s history, at the time accounting for nearly a third of the entire slave trade across
the Atlantic. Controlled for years by the French, Haitithen called Saint Domingue was the Pearl of
the Antilles, one of the richest islands in France s empire. In the 1780s, Haiti exported 60% of all
the coffee and 40% of all the sugar consumed in Europe: more than all of Britain s West Indian

Book Report On Eric Ross
Today I was finally granted a day off from work. The first place I knew I would head, after
sleeping in, would be to the coffee house down on 1st Avenue. The leaves were just starting to fall
outside. Soon winter would be here.
The smell of fresh brewed coffee invaded my nose as I stepped inside the door. I walked up to the
counter and viewed the numerous amount of tasty treats they had on display today. I ordered a
double chocolate muffin with a caramel latte and then sat down on my most loved couch with my
sketchbook and pencils.
This couch had a lot of memories. Memories of me planning the kill and over analyzing every
aspect of it to the memories of me and him cuddling on this couch to a cup of coffee and a good

How could I be so oblivious? The signs were all there, and I was so blind to them. I overwhelmed
with the feeling of being used and manipulated. He was the man of my dreams till now.
A tear trickled down my cheek as I read the article on some of his history. It wasn t a tear of
complete sadness. This tear was a mixture of anger, sorrow and desperation.
Little did I know, he had been married for three years to the woman who gave birth to his child 12
years prior.
After more digging, I came across an article about his wife. A year after they got married, they
found her dead in the bathroom of his million dollar mansion. She had committed suicide by slitting
her veins open on her wrists. She had left a note expressing her feelings about him straying the path
from their marriage.
So he isn t cheating now, but he has before. Why is it such a big deal now that he can t introduce
me to his family? Maybe even just his daughter?
It was time for Eric and I to have a chat about what was going on between us. So I decided that the
next day I would pay him a visit.

I made sure I had on my most form fitting outfit that would accentuate my curves. He ll be putty in

The Early Childhood Curriculum Te Wh Ж’Г„ Riki Essay
In Aotearoa, the early childhood curriculum Te WhДЃriki has an immense focus on children s
holistic development which is fostered and guided by interconnecting principles and strands that
construct the curriculum. Within the strands, there are goals that teacher s educators must follow
to provide high quality teaching to sustain and fulfil the curriculum.
Te WhДЃriki describes curriculum as the sum total of the experiences, activities, and events,
whether direct or indirect, which occur within an environment designed to foster children s learning
and development (Ministry of Education, 1996, p.10). These experiences, activities and events vary
from centre to centre; though still provide opportunities for healthy holistic development. The arts
and literacies foster children s development of verbal and non verbal communication and language
and provide an exploration of theories of mean making. Through the concept of multi literacies,
multi modal ways of thinking are acknowledged the various ways children learn to process their
thoughts, emotions and actions. Throughout Te WhДЃriki, the arts and multi literacies are woven
through opportunities of dramatic play, drama, dance, music, representational resources and through
ways children represent and reflect their cultural backgrounds such as MДЃori children engaging
and participating in the haka, poi and waiata (Wright, 2003).

This event enabled core and foundational civilizations to develop in many different places around

The Catcher Of The Rye By F. D. Salinger
During the 1950 s, literature underwent a tremendous change in structure as well as philosophy.
J. D. Salinger s book The Catcher in the Rye helped contribute to this revolution by highlighting
new philosophies in literature. This is evident in pre 1950 writing as well as the changes that
persisted through the remaining part of the decade, especially in the writing style popularized
during the Great Depression. The Catcher in the Rye also contributed to a change in conflict.
This conflict started as an external object to overcome, but after the release of this book and
others, the conflict changed from external to internal and became a moral or philosophical
struggle to be thought about rather than something to overcome. Jerome David Salinger began
his life on January 1, 1919 in New York, New York. Salinger was born to Sol and Miriam
Salinger, and he was the younger of two children. Salinger s father was a rabbi who ran a
successful ham and cheese import business. Salinger mother was Scottish born and non Jewish,

everyone and it was only after Salinger s bar Mitzvah that he found out about his mother s
heritage. Salinger was shipped to Valley Forge Military Academy after flunking out of McBurney

Characteristics Of The Carolingian Empire
In the eyes of Pepin III the Short, his reasoning behind him usurping the Merovingian throne was
simple: power in all ways except symbolically was in his hands. Backed by the pope, military
success and ambition, he overthrew Childeric III to claim his singular rule over the Franks,
marking the end of the Merovingian empire and the birth of Carolingian rule. With this history,
the Carolingian mindset was set: if you were superior to that of who was in power, you deserved
to be the singular ruler. In a sense, the Carolingians took this mindset into all reaches of life,
including the development of a style of writingthat would reign supreme and exert its influence into
the modern era. This style of writing, later named Carolingian minuscule, would not only dominate
over other styles of writing, but would give a greater incentive to protect truth and beauty, all while
combining culture and language within a script.
Prior to the rise of Carolingian minuscule, the empire and those surrounding it each had a unique
style of writing, with scribes taking their own liberty in how to write within those styles, creating an
insurmountable amount of variations. Within the Carolingian empire, Latin had a very strong
influence on classic works, especially those from Rome and Greece, so typically, the Latin that
was idolized was distorted by a plethora of writing styles, many of which were confusing (Aherne
159). In the land that the Carolingians initially ruled over, the script of

The rational for this selection is that quasi experimental designs are used to determine the
effects of an intervention, such as diabetes group office visits on participants receiving and not
receiving this intervention (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). Even though convenience sampling is
known to be a weak method of sampling due to its lack of bias control, it can work significantly
well when knowledge and care is used to perform a study (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013).
Extraneous Variables Extraneous variables are variables that are not desired by the researcher,
but they influence the relationship of the study variables (Dictionary of Nursing Theory and
Research, 2010). In order to properly interpret study results, the goal of the research design is to
control these variables (Dictionary of Nursing Theory and Research, 2010). A study environment
that is not controlled introduces extraneous variables, so it is important to have an environment
that is equal to all participants (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). An example of an extraneous variable
in this study would be previous diabetes knowledge, because level of education is an important
extraneous variable (Grove, Burns, Gray, 2013). It would be ideal if all participants had the same

It is through better understanding the student mother experiences and the types of institutional
supports they may or may not need that we can assist them in becoming more active members of
the academy, staying in postsecondary education versus stopping out or dropping out and decrease
the marginalization they experience in the traditional model of the university. Thus, the qualitative
research study discussed in this paper was conducted in 2008 2009 and involved in depth
interviewing and a short survey. Furthermore, the sample that participated in this research study
included 24 student mothers (ages 18 30) with children under the age of five, who are also enrolled
part time in undergraduate or graduate coursework (i.e., at least one class per semester). Mothers of
children under five are unique because children within this age cohort are more dependent on their
caregivers and are normally not in school full time. Consequently, women s motherhood
responsibilities are less flexible than they might be in future years. The findings discussed in this
article will address a portion of the overall outcomes from this research study focusing on the
experiences these student mothers had with institutional support available via the university and
the needs that the student mothers believe should be addressed by universities in order to improve

Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide s Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire. Voltaire wrote it to
poke fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz s idea of philosophical optimism, the belief that we live in

were made of. This led us to the subject of protons, neutrons and electrons. Over the course of the
next few days he taught me the basics of what I have now come... Show more content on

When the bell rang, signifying school had ended I ran through the hallways, weaving in and out
of people who were exiting their classrooms. I rushed over to my locker, put in the combination,
grabbed my backpack, and sprinted outside. My dad was there, waiting in the parking lot to pick
me up, like he did everyday. I rushed over to him and asked him when we could talk, Later, be
patient he replied. I opened the car door, and jumped in, closing the door after myself. My dad
got into the car, and we started on the short drive home. The whole ride I was bouncing up and
down in my seat in anticipation. When I finally got home, my dad gave in to me and said we
could talk about string theory. We sat down and he explained string theory to me. He then
explained how strings could be what protons, neutrons and electrons. This is about when I made
the connection that if atoms make up everything in this world and strings make up atoms, then I
too am made of strings! In other words, I am made up of the same things that a chair is made up
of, simply vibrating at a different

Beowulf and Grendel
Beowulf is a classical epic poem which describes Beowulf s heroic deeds and his acts towards
bringing justice and peace to the Scandinavian society by eradicating Grendel. The original
manuscript (700 1000A.D.) and the modern film (2005) reveals significant differences between the
characters traits and descriptions, an important quotation, descriptions of places, motives, a
character s presence and events that have taken place. Thus, this modern adaptation, Beowulfand
Grendel, of an ancient text, Beowulf, is significantly flawed as any modern adaptation of an
ancient text will be. In the film, specific characters are portrayed differently as they are in the
poem. A significant example of this is from the character, Grendel. The... Show more content on

For example, in the film, Hrothgar awakes in the morning and sees his soldiers slaughtered after
a night of Grendel s killings. He runs up to one of them and kneels beside them and begins to
weep and screams that he should be buried here with them because he cannot do anything to stop
Grendel. Here, Hrothgar is confused and does not know what to do to stop this troll . Even with
the arrival of Beowulf and his heroic stories and confidence to defeat Grendel, Hrothgar is still
pictured as a depressed and weak character. An example in the film that Hrothgar is still confused
and depressed even after the arrival of Beowulf is when Hrothgar and Beowulf argue on the
upper floor of the mead hall after two unsuccessful nights of trying to defeat Grendel. Hrothgar is
agitated and impatient to the fact that Beowulf has still not eliminated Grendel . This argument
is an example that Hrothgar is still very worried and depressed even with the arrival of a great
hero, Beowulf. These examples show that King Hrothgar in the film, is a character that has fell
into a permanent depression and lacks courage, confidence, and leadership qualities. These
qualities greatly contrast with the qualities of Hrothgar in the poem which symbolizes him as a
great leader even through times of hardship. Beowulf is written in the form of Old English and the
film is recorded in a modern perspective and many of the poem s words and quotations are not
utilized to its full extent and context. A

Key Purpose Behind The Dobb- Frank Act
Very often than not there are regulations implemented as a means to dissolve an issue that needs to
be resolved as soon as possible and is implemented immediately. However these needed resolutions
end up affecting the little man such as community banks.
The main purpose behind the Dobb Frank act was to lend a hand to consumers and make the market
more financially stable. The majority of commercial banks are in fact community banks and tend to
serve in suburban, and rural communities. A huge difference between the larger banks in a
metropolitan area and a community bank is the way they make decisions on the customer that
come in to obtain a loan. Community banks use a means of relationship banking, which is when
the representative of the bank attempt to meet the needs of the customer by attempting to find a
means to meet these needs. Finding the best means through financial services with the customer
and working with them builds a relationship that might even be for a long term. Larger banks in
a metropolitan area are more likely to impose a less relationship minded means of dealing with
their customers. More than likely they ll turn to transactional banking. Transactional banks has no
input from customers and relies on the facts about the customer s history information, such as
credit scores. This type of banking is very affective when dealing with customer s on a wider scale,
because this serves as a cheaper option for a wider scale customer base. While this is great

Computer Technology and its Advancement in Nursing
As nursing students, we are taught to utilize the nursing process in almost every aspect of our work.
The nursing process communicates and coordinates care with all other clinical disciplines. It assists
in coordinating discharge planning, education, teaching, and transition of care. Utilizing
informatics and healthcare technologies is one of the nursing essentials of the Master s in
Education Program. Nursing is the hub of information flow in all types of healthcare organizations.
Developing the science and technology of nursing informatics will enhance the information
available to nurses in clinical practice management, education, and research. The American Nurses
Association or ANA defines nursing informatics as, a specialty that integrates nursing science,
computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and
knowledge in nursing practice . Nursing informatics first got its start in the late 1960 s when the 1st
computer systems were implemented in hospitals. Nursing informatics is based on information
technology. Information technology is any technology which processes and communicates data. It
includes computers, voice, data and image sensing, communication devices, graphic devices,
multimedia imaging, etc. Information technology also entails the use of things as simple as a pen
and paper, telephones, and fax machines.

The Failure Of Mind Control In 1984 By George Orwell
One of George Orwell s themes in 1984 is that language is important to thought therefore capable
of mind control. It is language that helps people communicate with each other. Once language
can be centralized in a political agency, then the thoughts of citizens can be controlled. It will be
impossible in this society to think any disobedient or rebellious thoughts. Why? Mainly because
there are no words with which to think them. Mr. Orwell lived during the time that totalitarian
societies were springing up in the world. Mr. Orwell thought these countries wanted to turn their
citizens into machines. Happiness becoming a synthetic creation from without rather than from
within. Happiness would be void of natural passions and personal inclinations. The reality of life
in a totalitarian society. The Party introduces Newspeak to replace English. The Party is
constantly refining and perfecting Newspeak. The Party s goal is that no one will be able to
question the absolute power of the Party. In this totalitarian society an individual only has power
if he ceases to be an individual. If an individual can subject himself completely, if he can escape
from his identity, if he can let himself be so much into the Party that he is the Party, then he is
all powerful and immortal. The power over people, over the body and especially over the mind is
what the Party is seeking. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in
the good of others; we are

  • 2. Analysis Of The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven... Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Peter A. Levine, Ph.D. In Sherman Alexie s collection of short stories, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, we read stories of Native American struggles for survival in an American society designed to keep Native Americans locked in the cycle of intergenerational trauma. Alexie illustrates the importance of rejecting intergenerational trauma as a method of survival, by isolating the two main causes intergenerational trauma becomes inescapable and giving examples that showcase the impact of attempting to survive the cycle. Through the interpretation of multiple sources, it becomes clear that the inescapability of intergenerational trauma is the outcome of internalized oppression and pessimism. Internalized oppression is just one factor that contributes to the inescapability of intergenerational trauma. Alexie uses figurative language to demonstrate that the cycle of oppression is further perpetuated by the concept of racial inferiority, poverty, and failure to achieve an education in his short story The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn t Flash Red Anymore . The main character, Victor, sits on the porch with his friend Adrian as they reminisce their past and hope for others futures. Victor claims that Indians [could] easily survive the big stuff... Leadership in the context of community engagement is particularly interesting due to its relevance to fostering community partnerships and performing relevant and useful service. Relationships between a group and a community partner who have a need to be fulfilled is best kept in working order to allow the best engagement and benefit possible. This sentiment reveals the disadvantages of using this form of choosing new leaders. Another student leader expressed that he would have rather had an election or nomination: I wish more people in our club knew each other better, cause I think that would help with a voting or campaigning I guess to be the leader. But we meet so infrequently. Number of students can influence the choosing process, but this student leader pointed to a lack of group cohesion. His comment suggests that more group bonding or strengthening activities would have allowed him to conduct an election, but that was not possible this year. Additionally all student leaders that were interviewed were also originally chosen to their position via this method as well. This points to a reproduction of past leadership transition techniques and the difficulty in breaking those in certain organizations. All in all, there are certainly barriers to choosing new leaders, and a lack of interest and cohesion from group members seemed to be the most pressing matters. Walden is a personal story of Thoreau s time at Walden Pond; he tells us about his experiences, both spiritually and physically. He analyzes the nature and settings around him, finding multiple meanings in everything. Thoreau was a true transcendentalist of his time, writing on many different levels in all of his works. I perceive that we inhabitants of New England live this mean life that we do because our vision does not penetrate the surface of things. We think that that is which appears to be. He describes both the depth and the purity of the pond, which is a symbol for human nature as well. Since he comments: I am thankful that this pond was made deep and pure for a symbol , it s clear that these features assume a spiritual and moral meaning. Since he is interested with depth concerning Walden Pond, he comes up with a plan to figure out how deep the pond is. Thoreau ponders why people claim the pond is bottomless when he figures out it is actually one hundred feet deep. He comes to the conclusion that people need to believe in infinity. The symbolic meaning of depth is suggested when he urges: Let us work and wedge our feet downward through the mud and slush of opinion, and prejudice, and tradition and appearance till we come to a hard bottom and rocks in place, which we can call reality Thoreau claims humans need a depth of thought in order to reflect and go beyond the surface of things to reach the essential facts of life. Thoreau describes a purity of the Walden Pond that sets it apart from other ponds. Walden is described as a mirror in which all impurity presented to it sinks . Thoreau puts an emphasis on the purity of the pond; this could be due to Thoreau s fear of physical contamination, due to the railroad being so close, as well as intellectual contamination, since he feels society is poisoned. Thoreau himself tries to purify his spirit and rid himself of his animal nature, to reunite the spiritual world with the natural world. He abandons his old life and society s corrupting influences by going to the woods and living simply. He does so with the tranquility of Walden Pond and his bean field. Given these peculiar features, it appears evident that the pond has a divine nature which is shown in two ways: as the medium of divine expression and as a mirror which reflects the spirituality of mankind and the ... Guterson portrayed that Hatsue found it easier to deny her culture, than to accept the truth of the matter that her boyfriend is an American essentially the enemy . The American s and the Japanese thought it simpler to feud with each other, than to admit to being afraid of one another. Guterson explained, The whites, you see, are tempted by their egos and have no means to resist, and went on further to quote, We Japanese ...bend our egos, all of the time, and that is where we differ. • 14. The Importance Of Light Francis Bacon once said, In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present. This shows that you truly cannot have or see a good thing without also knowing what bad looks like. There are billions of people in this world, the best and brightest people are those people who have overcome that darkness. Those people know what darkness is and have experienced it first hand, therefore they shine so much brighter. These people who have seen darkness and who shine so bright because of it are a guide for those who may be waiting in the darkness. Like a lighthouse does for ships at night or like the stars and moon do for travelers. Without darkness, there would be no need for guidance or change. There would be no point in having stars, lighthouses, or unique bright people. Take the life of Jesus for example, this man was born in a manger surrounded by dirty animals. He never sinned a day in his life, yet he constantly received hate from those around them. People hated him so much that they hung him upon a cross, which is one of the most excoriatingly painful ways to die. He had nails driven into his hands and feet, a crown made of thorns forced down onto his head, and he had to hang there for hours as he slowly suffocated. This man knew darkness better than anyone, yet he is still a light or lighthouse for all people. John 1:5 states, The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. Analysis Of Mark And The Gospel Of Matthew In the Bible, several verses convey the same event or message that is told in another verse, but the context or delivery of the story or message differs from each other, because the authors want to convey a different message in each scene. An example of an event conveyed in two different verses is Mark 6:45 52 and Matthew 14:22 33. Both verses recall the events of The Walking on the Water. To summarize the scene, the Walking on Water is about the events immediately after the Feeding of the Five Thousand where Jesusprays on a mountain. Eventually, the disciples struggle with a storm, and Jesus is able to catch up with them by walking on the water. At first, the disciples believe that Jesus is a ghost, but he is able to convince them that he indeed walked on the water. As the storm calms down, Jesus has his doubts about whether the disciples understand the miracles. It is noted that the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Matthew tells various events in a different manner or perspective, and have an effect on how The Walking on the Water is retold. Concerning the complete Gospel of Mark, The story is told with an unusual urgency (Powell, p. 40), and Emphasize Jesus s deeds over his words (Powell, p. 41). In terms of theology, this presents people in general in a neutral fashion, while presenting Jesus as a god, and less as a person. The question explores how the height has an affect on the amount of work done on the cup and the amount of gravitational potential the marble has. We tested this by creating an experiment in which we dropped a marble down a ramp to hit and move a cup while testing the different heights we collected the data of how far the cup moved and used it to create a trend and a claim that resolved the objective question. The claim, which is the general statement of conclusion as of the result of an experiment, is the higher the height of an object the more gravitational potential (GPE) it has and the more work that will be done on the object hit. This trend in a way was also backed by Galileo Galilei as he found that the longer an object falls the faster it moves, with an increase of velocity being 32 ft or 9.8 m per second. As the object is moving faster that means an increase in in kinetic energy and with an increase in kinetic energy comes an increase in the collision force or amount of work done on the object hit. This increase in kinetic energy is also seen in the increase of mass, when the mass grows as does the kinetic energy, where on collision they made a bigger impact with mass. The artist of this painting, Gustave Courbet, was one of the first artist to call himself a Realist (1819 1877). This painting is a picture of a young man and an old man crushing rocks to produce the gravel used for the roadbeds. These stonebreakers represent the disenfranchised lower class on whose backs the modern life was being built upon. The young man in the painting is struggling to move the large basket of rocks to the side of the road. He is wearing a ripped shirt and pants, but his working boots are more modern. The older gentleman, is knelt down, tired from the work. He is breaking the rocks, while wearing the outfit of a lower class man. What the older man was wearing is the more traditional style of a peasant with his wooden shoes. The younger man is almost representing a grim of the future, while the older man shows a more out of date, or the rural past. Courbet said when talking about his inspiration for this painting is that One side is a an old man seventy... On the other side is a young fellow... In labor such as this, one s life begins that way, and it ends the same way. (Stokstad 973) Courbet does a great job of signifying the brutality of the modern life with his choices of dull, and dark colors, as well as a more rough painting patters, he uses awkward poses and stilted composition. In my research paper I will identify a religion that has had problems arise due to their secretive nature. I popular culture secrecy breed s suspicion. Religion in particular is expected in the west to be open, honest and welcoming, based largely on the model of Christianity. Plenty of religions involve secrecy, where believers are told things forbidden to outsiders, and where further information is often revealed in stages as believers rise through the ranks. With religion there are lot of reasons for secrecy, to avoid outsiders obtaining sacred knowledge only privy to people in a certain religion or occult. Most religions believe that knowledge is sacred and to be shared with only insiders in the religion who wholehearted believe and respect the religion. I recall as a child I was apart of a free Mason group called Order of the Eastern Star. We had weekly meetings and before the meetings adjourned we were reminded that we could not let anyone know what happen in the meeting, not even our mother, which to say did not sit well with her. The information that is shared often is not highly classified, but with many religious groups it s more so about inclusiveness. Because you are apart of this particular group you are included in something bigger than yourself, which is what some people search for in religion. On the on the side of secrets ... Here are a few things many people believe they could have done to prolong their lives: Romeo did not have to kill Tybalt, Romeo could have stayed in Mantua and waited on the priest, and a very good idea would have been that they could have aloaked and ran away. First of all, Romeo did not have to kill Tybalt, because the Prince was going to kill him anyway, as a punishment for murdering Mercutio. Salinger s book The Catcher in the Rye helped contribute to this revolution by highlighting new philosophies in literature. This is evident in pre 1950 writing as well as the changes that persisted through the remaining part of the decade, especially in the writing style popularized during the Great Depression. The Catcher in the Rye also contributed to a change in conflict. This conflict started as an external object to overcome, but after the release of this book and others, the conflict changed from external to internal and became a moral or philosophical struggle to be thought about rather than something to overcome. • 37. Characteristics Of The Carolingian Empire In the eyes of Pepin III the Short, his reasoning behind him usurping the Merovingian throne was simple: power in all ways except symbolically was in his hands. Backed by the pope, military success and ambition, he overthrew Childeric III to claim his singular rule over the Franks, marking the end of the Merovingian empire and the birth of Carolingian rule. With this history, the Carolingian mindset was set: if you were superior to that of who was in power, you deserved to be the singular ruler. In a sense, the Carolingians took this mindset into all reaches of life, including the development of a style of writingthat would reign supreme and exert its influence into the modern era. This style of writing, later named Carolingian minuscule, would not only dominate over other styles of writing, but would give a greater incentive to protect truth and beauty, all while combining culture and language within a script. Prior to the rise of Carolingian minuscule, the empire and those surrounding it each had a unique style of writing, with scribes taking their own liberty in how to write within those styles, creating an insurmountable amount of variations. Within the Carolingian empire, Latin had a very strong influence on classic works, especially those from Rome and Greece, so typically, the Latin that was idolized was distorted by a plethora of writing styles, many of which were confusing (Aherne 159). Extraneous Variables Extraneous variables are variables that are not desired by the researcher, but they influence the relationship of the study variables (Dictionary of Nursing Theory and Research, 2010). In order to properly interpret study results, the goal of the research design is to control these variables (Dictionary of Nursing Theory and Research, 2010). Here, Hrothgar is confused and does not know what to do to stop this troll . An example in the film that Hrothgar is still confused and depressed even after the arrival of Beowulf is when Hrothgar and Beowulf argue on the upper floor of the mead hall after two unsuccessful nights of trying to defeat Grendel.
