Research Paper On Pascal s Wager
Pascal s wager is basically the belief in God to allow the permission to get into the gold pearly gates,
also known as Heaven. Pascal weighs out the good and the bad when believing in God to determine
what he should believe. When weighing out the good it way over steps the bad, since the bad is a life
long eternity spent in hell. The only down side is that there may have been a little time lost from your
life when trying to learn more about God. Believing in God is a simple and a really easy choice to
make, so you do not have to spend eternity in Hell. People can look at every argument in the existence
of God and wonder if it is true or not, when simply just believing would could potentially benefit you.
When god finds you have the knowledge to challenge the arguments that he may not ... Show more

The better choice is to just believe that God exist to benefit yourself. If that means following blind and
having a hard time raping your mind around the possibility that God might actually exist, then that is
ok. If it is hard finding a religion you believe in, then just say you believe in God and see where that
takes you. God could actually save the ones with knowledge to fight the arguments of Gods existence,
by simply knowing since they are smart enough to believe in him to benefit them selves, then they can
do what they want with the knowledge they have and Heaven is waiting for them. Believing in God to
get your self into the pearly golden gates is not a bad idea at all. The positive consequences most
definitely way out the bad, and it is clearly better to believe in God and waste a little time if there does
happen to be no God. The chance that there is an all knowing, all powerful, all good God; waiting for
is approval into Heaven is a much better idea than to be spending eternity in

Heathcliff A Bad Man
but where did he come from, the little dark thing, harbored by a good man to his bane (Bronte c34)
Heathcliff is a very troubled and dark man, but he did not become this way overnight. In this essay, I
will be explaining how Heathcliff became who he was and how he morphed from an abandoned street
urchin into a diabolical wealthy Miser. Many things or people influence Heathcliff s life such as how
he has been treated, the violence displayed to him and from him, and Catherine and the way she acts
when she is with him and when she is with others. All of these factors have made Heathcliff the way
he was portrayed at the end of the novel. In the beginning of Nelly s story, we learn that Heathcliff
was adopted by Mr. Earnshaw. When Mr. Earnshaw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earnshaw dies their bond becomes stronger. Then everything goes south for Heathcliff when
Catherine meets Edgar and chooses to marry him. I believe that this upsets Heathcliff so much
because Catherine is his only friend and this is when Heathcliff really starts being manipulative and
evil. While Catherine was staying with Edgar Hindley treats Heathcliff like a servant and denies him
an education. This infuriated Heathcliff so he leaves for 3 years. As a result of Hindley s torture
Heathcliff becomes bitter and uncivilized. Heathcliff swears revenge against Hindley and then follows
through when he moves back to wuthering heights and takes everything from him Hindley in a game
of poker. After he s pretty much ruined Hindley s life and turns Hareton into a miniature Heathcliff it
is not enough. Heathcliff marries Isabella and then tortures her in their marriage so much so that she
just leaves so that he can secretly torture Edgar by being the heir to his fortune. This is the time when
Heathcliff starts showing his diabolical ways and begins to ruin everyone s life. Heathcliff is very evil
and I think that it spawns from when he was a child, and how mistreated he was and now he just wants
to miss treat everyone in his life so that they feel the anguish that he always

How Is Entertainment Ruining Society
Mr. Gabler s assertion that entertainment would eventually ruin society, although not entirely invalid,
is not correct. Entertainment has been a near essential part of culture since culture has been around.
While entertainment has been a part of society for an indefinite time in recent years it has become
increasingly integrated into the everyday lives of people. In the 18th century a popular example of
entertainment would be the theatre. This was the era of great poets and writers like Shakespeare.
Despite the increasing notoriety these establishments attained the people who regularly attended still
only did so on a weekly basis and would not have had more than two or three hours worth of exposure
to these events. This meant that the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No longer are people spending a few hours per week on entertaining events like plays or fairs. Rather
we see a complete integration of entertainment into daily life. Television runs on a 24/7 basis, the
internet is constantly available for entertaining purposes, and shows or movies are streamed by the
billions per year. This constant exposure to entertainment has given people less time to think and
therefore has blurred the lines between the entertainment and reality. In fact, entities like reality TV
has completely negated any sense of fictional entertainment. This has had conflicting effects.
Smoking, for example, is commonly considered to be highly detrimental to your health. This is
advertised today in commercials, shows, and movies. However, it is these same methods of defaming
it that it became a widespread issue originally. In the mid 20th century smoking became wildly
popular due to famous movie stars being portrayed as smoking. People who see their favorite actor or
actress smoking a cigarette in their favorite movie and they tend to emulate that. This is a clear cut
example of how our integrated entertainment industry can show more than one side to an

Disadvantages Of Incremental Budgeting
Incremental budget
Incremental budgeting is a process that is mainly concerned with the incremental (or marginal)
adjustments to the current budgeted allowance. This method can be used by Excellent Year Ltd if they
are not having any major changes compared to the previous year.
Advantages of incremental budgeting
Incremental budgeting is easily understood (as it is retrospective), makes marginal changes and
secures agreement through negotiation. It is administratively straightforward (and therefore cheap)
and allows policy makers to concentrate of the key areas of change. Incremental budgeting is
particularly useful where outputs are difficult to define/quantify; and it is stable and, therefore,
changes are gradual.
Disadvantages of incremental budgeting

It is then possible to see the department s performance in the capacity levels. As long as the company
doesn t go over full capacity, fixed cost will not fluctuate. Using flexible budgeting is possible when
the product demand varies.
Flexible budgets separate the fixed and variable costs, which then allows for budgets to be set
automatically to an activity level. Thus, variances between actual costs and budgeted costs are set for
volume fluctuations before differences due to price and quantity factors are computed. At first, flexible
budgets are used to accurately measure performance because they compare actual costs for a given
output with the budgeted costs for the same level of output. The bad thing of a flexible budget is that,
by not allowing the manager to insert set figures, it is also difficult to estimate. Instead of looking at
an estimate of what to expect financially, the manager is left looking at a range of estimates. Excellent
Year Ltd should adopt fixed budgets when its demand is

The Importance Of The Uniform Commercial Code
The Uniform Commercial Code is a set of legal rules that was developed to bring about a sense of
consistency to the commercial industry. It is merely a blueprint of how the developers interpret the
way of doing business that would be fair and just to all parties concerned. It was totally up to the
individual states if they would enact the UCC as written or construct modifications they felt were
necessary to circumstances within that state. Once the codes were adopted by an individual state, they
became the legal authority that still governs the way many business transactions are handled today.
The Uniform Commercial Code has been one of the standards for doing business in North Carolina
since 1965. Over the years, there have been changes and modifications to the originally adopted code;
but, it is important to note that the basics of justice and fairness to all parties involved, have remained
the same. As important as the UCC is to commerce today, it is by no means the only law governing
business. Prior to the adoption of the UCC, the legal authority for just about every aspect of life
business or personal has been Common Law. Although the UCC encompasses the ways of commerce
today, it is important to remember that business thrives on contracts and Contract Law is still a major
portion of Common Law. It stands to reason that each is just as important as the other when it comes
to the standards of doing business. There are probably a wide range of opinions as to whether

What Does A Patient Mean To You
What does patients mean to you? The poem by Phillips Brooks is, Be patient and understanding Life
is too short to be vengeful or malicious. To me that poem is what I live for. I have so many times
where all i wanted to do was say something, but I couldn t because of my job. Being patient is the key
to life. Never do anything you will regret in the long run.
I have had jobs where I have had to wait on very rude customers. I worked at Cara, a salon. I
remember this one time where i had wait on this one rude lady. I was polite, like I always am. I first
asked her if she wanted any water, she responded with If you don t touch the glass, I would like some.

honestly so shocked when I got the phone call. I went in for the interview and I had started working
the next day. Till this day I still have my job and I m very happy with what I do. You always run into
very rude customers, but you always have to stay patient. I remember the day that I started, I was so
nervous that I would mess up. A few months came along, and well, I ran into that difficult customer.
This one man asked me if I could get something for him and of course I said yes. He was asking me to
get, I think a candle from the top shelf of aisle number four. Well the front called me to go and bag,
while I was heading up to the front, he yelled at me requesting that I stay and help. I didn t want to
anger the man or one of the cashiers, so I called one of the managers to help the man. As I was
finishing up, he came up to me and was yelling at me in front of all these customers, I was turning red.
I was being as patient as I could and then a manager asked what was wrong. The man said that I just
walked off and didn t help him. I helped the man and then I bagged his groceries, I carried out for him

Pompei Amphitheatre Research Paper
Now lets visit a couple of places in Pompei. Some famous and interesting places are The Villa of the
Mysteries, The Garden of fugitives , and The Pompeii Amphitheatre. The Villa of Mysteries is famous
for the series of Frescos in many rooms. It was a country house built around 65 50 BC.
The mural painting that gives this house its name is found in the dining room, or triclinium, of the
house. It s associated with Dionysian cult practices that are known to have flourished in the area.
Dionysus, was the Greek god of wine and ecstasy. Dionysian cult members were all female, called
Maenads or Bacchantes.
The frescoes at Pompeii have been sorted into four main styles the First, Second, Third, and Fourth

The Pompeii Amphitheatre is the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatre. It is located in the ancient
Roman city of Pompeii, it was covered under all the ash and dust from the eruption of Mount
Vesuvius. It consists of a large cavea around which are the steps, divided into sections, which cover the
entire perimeter of the construction. The different sections are the ima cavea, the lower part, media
cavea, the middle part, and summa cavea, the upper part. The lower seats were reserved for
dignitaries, people considered to be important because of high rank or office. The higher seats were
for plebeians, commoners.
Now let s look at the clothes of Pompei. In ancient Pompeii, men wore togas, woolen robes and
women wore stolas, which are very similar to togas. They wore these over their tunics, under clothes.
They also didn t wear any underwear. People buried in the ash wore heavier clothing than the light
summer clothes typical of August. I love food, Don t you? Ancient Pompeii s common foods include

Argument On Lying
I m not upset that you lied to me, I m upset that from now on I can t believe you. These were the
famous words Friedrich Nietzsche spoke and almost everyone in this world can probably relate to
it.Lying seems so universal, but no one can really agree if it s warranted or not. After reviewing a few
opinionated and factual articles on lying, the opinionated conclusion is lying is almost always never
justified unless it is to protect someone from getting hurt. In A Philosopher On Lying , by Mary Alder,
a philosopher named, Immanuel Kant, has his perspective on lying as, Don t tell someone a lie, Kant
said, because then you are not treating that person with respect, as an individual. .This statement at
first glance may seem valid, but let s take a closer look.If your mom had breast cancer and she told
you about it but, said not to mention it to your dad for fear that he might get a heart attack, what would
you do? Especially what shall you do if he asks you if you know anything about your mom acting
weird lately? The majority of you reading this most likely have switched sides against Immanuel
Kant, but, for those who think, Well, surely he must have had made an exception about protecting
someone s life, you are wrong. Immanuel Kant believes, ...it s not about the size of the lie any lie,
even one to save someone s life, is dangerous. so if he was in that situation, he wouldn t care if it
risked his father s life. Therefore, that is the flaw in Immanuel Kant s argument,

The Horror Of The Zombies
The zombies are used to represent the mass panic of a containable situation, and the government is
portrayed as safe keepers of people, but also critiquing the government s actual response time and
effectiveness to situations. Both the story and the movie utilize zombies as a substitution for a more
real and occurring matter. The nationwide panic that is represented through a zombie apocalypse can
be interpreted as a problem that the country is facing or may have faced before. The fact the most

A zombie will kill if able. Given zombies, according to Sims were never not hungry (52), they didn t
rush to an opportunity. Sims describes a scene where Michael essentially has a stare down with a
jogger zombie. He says the zombie was facing his direction, but was lacking life. The zombies have an
unquenchable thirst for meat, flesh, and brains yet do not act upon their desire. Maybe, due to decay,
the eye sight of the zombie has decreased significantly along with its other senses. Or, once
zombiefied it no longer even use the senses. The zombies may altogether gain new and different
senses, and rely heavily upon those to tell what is around them. Either way, the awareness of a zombie
is significantly lower than a living human, but still dangerous none the less. The Night of the Living
Dead zombies are seen as pretty slow, but may be more aware. Night of the Living Dead zombies
utilized tools and were persistent. The first zombie that ap pears in the movie seemed to be the most
aggressive one. He wrestles the guy to the ground and runs after the girl. After she locks herself in the
car he first tries the door handle on both sides of the car. Figuring out that that didn t work he got a
rock and broke the window. His level of un derstanding had far surpassed that of the zombies in A

Much Ado About Nothing Essay On The Mind And Power
The human mind is complicated. The human mind is a puzzle, a puzzle that had puzzled great minds
since the days of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Today, mankind s knowledge of their own psychology
is but the tip of the iceberg to the complete story. The human mind often acts in spontaneous and
unexpected ways. Yet, the reason about why people behave the way they do is certain. People are
motivated by power, specifically the illusion of control, anger, and jealousy caused by power, to
perform extreme acts.
The abundance of power can create an illusion of control that can be damaging to one and the ones
around him or her. In The Thought of Acquiring Power Motivates People to Act, Marguerite
Rigoglioso gives an overview of three different studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Much Ado About Nothing, the villain Don John was implied to be the illegitimate step brother of
Don Pedro. Commenting on his heritage, Don John states it better fits my blood to be disdained/ of all
than to fashion a carriage to rob love from any (Ado.I.iii.26 27). Through his honesty, Don John
expressed jealousy toward his brother s popularity among the group. Conrade, Don John s royal
servant, advised Don John to retain a positive relationship with his brother, which was a logical advice
due to the influence Don Pedro has over the others and his role as a leader in the play, as evident when
he planned the marriage proposal to Hero at the party. Don John s jealousy influenced him to plot
against the engagement of Hero and Claudio, who was Don Pedro s loyal soldier. Sometimes, people
desire power not for dominance over others, but for power for achieving self actualization. In his
article, Murderous Envy, Dr. Peter Langman describes motivations for students to attempt or
contemplate homicide. Interestingly, he stated [f]ew shooters kill anyone who has harassed them, and
that shooters are more likely driven by envy than by revenge (Langman). In all the cases the doctor
described, including the infamous Columbine shooting, the shooters envied their peer s normality in
life. Dylan Klebold envied the athletes social popularity, Stephen Morgan envied his peers beauty and
intelligence, Seung Hui Cho envied the wealth of stuck up hedonists (Langman), etc. The envy in
people caused by a lack of power influences them to hurt others physically or

Capital Punishment Analysis
In the United States, decisions on capital punishment are made by members of a jury. Jurors must
acquire a majority verdict in order to sentence an accused to death. Although jurors are asked to be
objective, their decisions are, however, more often influenced by values than facts (Devine and Kelly,
393). In fact, based on the Capital Jury Project (CJP) which include 1,200 interviews of jurors who
served in 353 death penalty trials in 14 states (Devine and Kelly, 393), Dennis J. Devine and
Christopher E. Kelly used 314 CJP juries to conduct a bivariate and multivariate analyses to
understand how jurists make the decision (Devine and Kelly, 393). Before them, using the same
method, other researchers Bowers, Steiner, and Sandys found out that

The Challenges And Resiliencies Of Latino Immigrant...
The current study is examining the challenges and resiliencies of Latino immigrant parents. This study
will be using a qualitative research design. This qualitative design will be accomplished through the
use of face to face and phone interviews. This current study seeks to answer the following questions:
What parental challenges do Latino immigrant parents face? What resiliencies do Latino immigrant
parents obtain? What resources/services do Latino immigrant parents feel they need? What parenting
skills, styles, and/or knowledge have Latino immigrant parents used and were they effective in
producing positive child outcomes? One advantage of using a qualitative design is that the researchers
get more detailed and in depth answers. Another advantage of using a qualitative design is that more
complex questions can be asked. Researchers can also explain terms and questions in order to get the
most reliable answers. One limitation of using a qualitative design, is the limited number of
participants upon which the results are based. Without a large sample size, it is difficult to conclude
that the results will be generalized to a larger population size. Another limitation of this study is that
the research results will be based on self reports which limits the reliance on the data. Participants may
not truthfully report their behaviors and feelings. Participants may answer the interview questions with
socially acceptable answers. Participants may be inclined to change their

Persuasive Essay On The Public Transportation System
What started out as a trip to Philadelphia ended up turning into a unique experience with public
transportation. There is more to public transportation than hopping on a bus or train and just getting to
your destination. There are unsaid rules that go along with riding in the public transportation system
and the point of my exploration remix is to share these rules with any other college students who do
not fully understand them. Without being aware of the unsaid rules, it is very easy to break them. I
want to prevent college students from making the mistake of embarking on the public transportation
system with no prior knowledge and prevent students from breaking any of the rules like I did. My
remix serves to provide quick information for those who want to use public transportation. College
students primarily will not take the time to seriously read through a handbook for public transportation
nor sit down to watch a video. However, a flyer with only a few sentences is readable and convenient.
All a flyer needs is a little bit of color and bold lettering and there it is! One of the rhetorical ideas I
used was humor. Humor is a great tool when used correctly because the listener will start to pay
attention when they laugh. I achieved this appeal to pathos by using cartoons on the flyer. It is easy to
glance over something and not read it but when something small makes one chuckle, they will retain
the information received. Using a tool such as humor allows the work to be memorable.
Technologically this was a tough assignment. At first, the original plan was to make a short video type
public service announcement. Unfortunately, I did not possess the knowledge to create one.
Regardless, making a flyer may be more effective for college students. I have incredibly awful
handwriting, so for me to draw any sort of flyer would be a waste of time. A more aesthetically
pleasing method would be to create a flyer online using microsoft word, multiple colors as well as a
small amount of photography. This is exactly what I did. There were many things I would have liked
to do with the flyer, but since I lacked technical knowledge, I could not achieve these ideas. I would
have liked to fade the photos behind the text so you

Earle s second major concept of her book is the relentless greed of the human race. Through pollution,
ignorance, and pillaging of all resources, the human race has become that of a vampire species,
feeding off of the seductive lure of power, money, and claim that our planet s oceans bring. A
particular lipstick wearing, wolf hunting politician made a statement that is becoming unanimous with

The Morality Of Law By John Finnis
This is also in accordance to the theories made by John Finnis, a naturalist, who proposes that humans
need law to help them achieve their own projects in life and any rule that hinders them from doing so
can be rightfully disobeyed given that it doesn t cause a social distortion. With all these adding up, we
can see why he considers the procedure of lawmaking as the internal morality of law. An analogy was
given by him with his principles of legality being labelled as the rules to using the tool, law. If the
rules are not followed then the tool cannot be used to its fullest extent and thus the definition of the
law is not realised. Accommodation to the principle is morale as it helps in achieving a human s
greatest purpose in life. His idea of internal morality of law is illustrated in his book, The Morality of
Law, through a story of a fictional king named Rex who applied his rules in ways that always resulted
in a failure. Fuller laid out the failed attempts of ruling and turns it into a list of eight Principles of
Legality or as he calls it as, Desideratum of Law. He contends that the conditions of the principle have
to be met for a legal system to be considered as valid, and the lack of it fails as such. That said, in
order for a legal system to be recognised, first and essentially, there must be rules. It is not enough for
someone to give out commands, there must be proper law. The rules then need to be publicised,
prospective, understandable, non contradictory,

The Effects Of Physical Inactivity On Human Body
Background
Its widely known that physical inactivity has enormous negative health effects. Poor cardio respiratory
fitness, adiposity, impaired glucose toler ance, hypertension, and arteriosclerosis are independent
threats to health and that physical inactivity increases the risk for premature death (Lars). The negative
health effects of physical inactivity are numerous. Examples are high blood pressure, increased risk of
diabetes, increased stress and depression, and shorter life expectancy. It is clear that not being
physically active takes a large toll on the human body. There are many different ways that an
individual can turn their life around. Anything from going for a walk or going from a 5 mile run will
make a lasting effect. Some people take exercise to the extreme and use high intensity training.
During intense exercise the body gets pushed to its limits. The cardiovascular system is one that is
pushed to its bounds. While at rest the heart is beating at about 70 beats per minute. During vigorous
exercise, the heart rate increases dramatically. The general rule to find the maximum heart rate is
taking 206.9 (0.67 x age) (Waehner). For an average 20 year old, that is about 194 beats per minute
which is over double the heart at rest. The increase in heart rate is because it is doing everything it can
to push blood to the muscles during that time. The muscles demand 50% of the blood flow during
intensive exercise, whereas they only demand 10% while at rest

My Future As A Military Officer And My Current Life At The...
This particular lesson I felt was extremely applicable to both my future as a military officer and my
current life at the academy. This reading focuses on conflict among members in an organization. The
reading describes common issues that lead to unhealthy conflict and how to avoid those issues.
Conflict is seen as a good thing in organizations as it creates a more complete understanding of the
choices, it creates a better range or options, and ultimately allows for effective decisions making.
However, it needs to be effectively managed to have a successful organization. Conflict can
sometimes turn unproductive, as comments can be interpreted as personal attacks. The reading offers
six tactics for managing interpersonal conflict. Of these six, I see the idea of focus on the facts as the
most important. This tactic states that the more information that one can provide to a situation, the less
likely conflicting viewpoints will be seen as personal attacks. This is especially true when data is
objective and up to date, as numbers do not lie and they are hard to argue. I see this often at the
academy when discussing possible changes in policy. Especially in situations that involve many
cadets. Often, discussions are very opinion based with little factual information because cadets often
do not have access to it. Because of this, these discussions often become a pointless debate. I could
make the assumption that this happens in an operational Air Force setting as well. In

Lack Of Professional Human Resource Workforce
Lack of Professional Human Resource Workforce A mechanized information framework requires

Electronic data interchange
For a long time, EDIFACT has been the most broadly utilized convention for EDI messages.
Numerous healthcare associations, and also businesses in different commercial enterprises, have
utilized the EDI approach as a part of request to trade particular space records towards the end of work
serious assignments. As a rule, EDI encourages the application to application electronic trade of
linguistically organized information arranged reports. However, over the years it has become apparent
that healthcare communication standards, such as EDI messages, fail to effectively establish
requirements for the internal structure and architecture of communicating systems, requiring the
information in any one system to be mapped twice: once into the message standard format by the
contributing system, and once back into the internal representation of the receiving system (Dudeck,
1998).Although the EDI approach achieves integration at the data level, it does not provide process
integration. Thus, it has been characterised by many as a complex technology owing to the daunting
task of the mapping

History Channel Series Modern Marvels
It takes more than just an army to keep America s military and personnel operating 365 days a year at
100%, it also takes an air force and navy. The task for getting supplies, soldiers, Marines and sailors to
where they are needed in the world falls to the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) and
its components which is truly a herculean feat. The History Channel series Modern Marvels featured
USTRANSCOM in season 17 episode 11 which covered packaging and the technology and creativity
that it takes to create and sustain movement of all types of items and people. In the episode the series
highlighted all three major subcommands of USTRANSCOM; Air Mobility Command, Military
Sealift Command and Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Center. Having served four years
active duty in the U.S. Navy directly after September 11, 2001 and now serving in the U.S. Navy
Reserves and just recently returning from a deployment overseas to the Horn of Africa I have had
firsthand experience with the services of USTRANSCOM and some knowledge about what they do. It
is extremely interesting to see how my fellow brothers and sisters in arms help those of us that are not
only down range in our designated area of responsibility but as well as at home. Unfortunately the 10
to 15 minute segment was too short to really show all that USTRANSCOM does (its mission), all the
different types of equipment they use to complete their missions and the vast array of three
subcommands capabilities.

Lax Credit Standards:
In an effort to remedy such disproportion between inventory and demand, in 1995 SDI began to
negligently issue credit lines. As exemplified by Table 2, due to such leniency net sales continued to
increase between 1995 and 1997 (Appendix A). However, as illustrated by Table 1 the relaxed credit
standards caused a 39% spike in accounts receivable from 1994 to 1995 (Appendix A). Consequently,
the increase in inventory and accounts receivable negatively impacted the current ratio of the firm. As
a result, the firm s liquidity dropped significantly below industry average in 1995 to 1.90 from 2.96,
well above the 2.25 average, in 1994 (Appendix C). Therefore, the cash flow of the firm was
negatively affected by the issuance of credit as accounts receivable continued to rise.
Loan Reliance:
As inventories and account receivable steadily increased, the firm distressingly opted for a short term
solution. By means of long term lending in 1994 and higher short term credit in 1994 and 1995, SDI
chose to temporarily resolve the current issues of the firm without considering the potential long term
ramifications. As illustrated in Table 1, long term loans remained the same while short term bank loans
increased by 71% between 1994 and 1995; a drastic change within a short span of time (Appendix A).
Similarly, as depicted in Table 2, the interest on the firm s short term loans rose from 1994 to 1995

Hearing Loss Essay
Who is affected by hearing loss?
Hearing loss is the most common physical disability in the whole wide world. In the United States
alone, about 28 million people have some level of hearing impairment that interferes with their ability
to understand normal speech and participate in conversations. Another 2 million cannot hear at all.
Age is the most common factor in increasing hearing loss. About 30 percent of people between 65 and
74 experience some difficulty in hearing. That percentage and the severity of the loss increase with
age.
Younger people can develop hearing loss as well. Fourteen percent of people between the ages of 45

The poems We Wear the Mask and Sympathy by Paul Dunbar both symbolize oppressed black
Americans and tell of the suffering that they endured. In his poem Dunbar uses dramatic, descriptive
and symbolic language to portray images in his poetry of the pointless prejudices and racism that
African Americans faced in America during the Harlem Renaissance. In the poem We Wear the Mask,
the mask wearers did not want the world to focus on what was really happening. They wanted to take
the spotlight off of the pain and struggle and redirect it towards the hope and strength that the
individuals had within. Just because they were not allowed equal rights and liberties, they refused to
let that dictate their joy, happiness and peace. We are

The Great Leap Forward By Joseph Stalin
After breaking away from a temporary alliance with the KMT during the war with Japan (1937 1945),
civil war broke out between the Communist Party and the KMT; resulting in the Communist Parties
victory. This lead to the founding of the People s Republic of China (PRC). Mao Zedong along with
other Communist leaders set out to remodel China with his campaign of the Great Leap Forward
through mass mobilisation of labour to improve agricultural and industrial production , eventually
transforming China into an industrial superpower that would surpass Western countries within fifteen
years. The Great Leap Forward model was borrowed from the model used by Joseph Stalin in the
USSR of an enterprise that was evaluated on the basis of success indicators ... items produced,
quantity of labour used and amount of raw materials depleted . Mao wanted to adapt the Stalin Model
of controlled planting and production with the Asian idea of collectivisation in mind, ultimately
creating China into a self sufficient industrial nation.
In 1966, Mao launched the Cultural Revolution in order to reassert his authority over China and the
CCP, but also ensure that China would not revert back into capitalism and cement the revolution so as
not to make the same revisionist mistakes that Mao had seen in the USSR.
I aim to establish whether the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution were successes for China
in modernising and pushing the country forward or a failure that achieved

Wise Words From Byzantium Is A Heaven
Byzantium was one of the major cities of the world. The whole city was like an art exhibit with layers

For Yeats, the holy city of Byzantium especially the Byzantium of Justinian represented a golden age
that produced lasting cultural monuments: the Justinian Code, which provided the basis of European
law, and so many works of art and architecture. Byzantium was the best place imaginable, like

Life can suck at times. People can be stretched every direction and feel as if they are being beat on.
There are times when people feel physically and emotionally worn out to the point where they want to
give up. However, when those people continue to stay strong and fight, they accomplish amazing
things and learn more than they could have ever imagined. Truth is, everybody will face trials in life,
but it s how people react to them that makes a difference. In the article, Wise Words From Wise
Leaders, by Kenyon Craig, it says, We all face adversity at some point in our lives. Our success lies in
how we handle it. Many of us allow challenges to defeat us. What I say to you is this: accept your
challenge head on. If you focus on developing into a stronger and wiser individual, you will succeed
not in spite of, but because of the very challenges you face. The most successful people in life don t
get that way from having it easy in life. When a person accepts a challenge and learns from their
mistakes and hardships that is when they are able to rise above the rest. Why? Because they
understand concepts that others couldn t even begin to grasp. They know the importance of life and
just how drastically it can change. They appreciate what they have and cherish the little things in life.
In the poem, the speaker calls upon the older and experienced people to, come from the holy fire,

Why Evolution Is True
Many people believe that Evolution is the creation of all living things that are from the past, present,

people question the theory of Evolution. The creation of humans is something that we all have
opinions and beliefs about how it all began. The creation of all living things that now live on earth, it
is the question that I will describe to all as I understand how Evolution has changed and affected all
living creatures and humans around the world. A scientist who studies evolution started with the

Paper Mache Research Paper
Art is perhaps the best way on the planet to show and describe feelings. For many people art is
nothing but color on paper, but in truth it is so much more. To be able to properly understand a work
of art, which could be a sculpture, painting, drawing etc. You must first be able to understand how the
artist has expressed themselves. So we are going to take this one step at a time and look at one of the
most popular type of sculpture. Paper mache. Paper mache comes from the combination of French
syllables, papier mache meaning chewed paper. The art form gets its name from it s wet, soggy
appearance. The composite material can be made from paper or pulp. In Ancient Egypt, many of the

For those of you who don t know what a pinata is, it is basically a paper mache animal or toy that you
hollow out and fill with candy. Then you put on a blindfold and hit it with a bat until the candy comes
out. This tradition first originated from Spain except you would fill the pinata with toys or other small
trinkets instead of candy.
For those of you who are new to art. It is not easy. Frustration can be very common, especially when
you sculpt in paper mache. I have done paper mache before and know it to be very unforgiving if you
make a mistake. A couple examples of things you want to avoid are: thin spots on your project, (cave

Like I said at the start of this essay. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself in many ways: visual,
photographic, sculpting (3D) etc. but one thing everyone must keep in mind is that no piece of art is
perfect. If you make a mistake that is just fine, you are not a professional. And if you are, well good
for you. But what I am trying to say is that not just anyone can fully grasp or understand art. As all my
teachers say. It s okay not to know, however it isn t okay not to

There are no Truly Victimless Crimes Essay
A man chooses to take cocaine. He understands the risks he is taking, and he believes that taking the
cocaine is worth the risk. Should he be allowed to take the drug? Or should the government force him
to abstain from it, in his own interest? He is not hurting anyone but himself, so why should there be a
law against it? This debate has raged since the beginning of civilization. J. S. Mill, in his Essay on
Liberty, takes the position that is commonly accepted: the government should not interfere with
matters that do not involve more than one person. These matters are often called victimless crimes.
Mill along with the majority of people in today s world claims that if a person commits a crime against

The view in favor of legalized prostitution is uninformed. A prostitute s terms are often violated by the
customer, or by the prostitute s employer. Sixty two percent of prostitutes report being raped at their
job, usually by their employers. Seventy five percent have been violently attacked by an employer or
customer. These are all actions that were not agreed to by the prostitute, causing the prostitute to
become a victim. Other negative effects on the prostitute can result from the practice. Seventy five
percent of prostitutes have attempted suicide, which may be related to the sixty five percent who have
clinical post traumatic stress disorder. Ninety two percent of prostitutes say that they want to escape
from the world of prostitution. There is also another potential victim: the family of the prostitute or of
the customer. A prostitute s family may feel shame for the actions of their relative, leading to stress
and depression. People who visit prostitutes often find that their families break up over their infidelity.
This can cause massive stress and depression for the spouse and children. It is safe to say that
prostitution is not the harmless service so many people claim it is. Prostitution is not a victimless
crime. Illegal drugs are probably the biggest issue among proponents of legalized victimless crimes.
While many people believe in the principle of complete social liberty, they find it hard to accept the

foundation upon which a person builds any relationship with their loved ones such as family or

crying like a river, kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her honesty and the great

belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while she was giving the last minute

accident. My mother never told me that what we did was called honesty. We never talked about the

Patrick Bateman s Use Of Dramaturgy In American Psycho
Introduction Dramaturgy, or impression management, is the conscious effort an individual puts forth
when trying to present a certain impression of himself to others. This is used in things like job
interviews in order to highlight certain aspects that one might want others to perceive more vividly.
There are also two types of self presentation as well. There is tactical, as just discussed, and then there
is authentic. The authentic self is when someone is using his or her own genuine personality. This
often requires no thinking in how one should act or portray. In contrast to the job interview using a
tactical self presentation, the authentic presentation would be when an individual is associating with
friends or close family. The individual s actions are free flowing and he can feel relaxed. Furthermore,
there are several components to dramaturgy. There are frontstage and backstage moments, authentic
and tactical self, in face and out of face moments, non observance, tact, and sign vehicles. All of these

Psychoanalysis In Catcher In The Rye
J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye is regarded as a seminal work of fiction with many
psychological and social themes, particularly those related to personal development and the transition
out of childhood. In this paper, The Catcher in the Rye will be analyzed from the basis of an Adlerian
psychoanalytic perspective with a particular emphasis on personality development and the influence
of siblings and birth order. This analysis will center around the main character of Salinger s story,
Holden , who appears to have developed an inferiority complex in his early life which he attempts to
make up for with antisocial and dishonest de identification behaviour. The Adlerian model of
psychoanalysis is ideally suited for the character of Holden and provides a number of insights into the
influences upon Holden, the state of his mind and the motivations that make up his unique character.
Alfred Adler, a renowned and highly influential psychologist who came to prominence in the early
part of the 20th century coined the term family constellation , which served as a metaphor to describe
the influence of familial bonds and dynamics upon the personality development of individuals,
particularly children. Adler s conception of the family constellation has been adopted and studied
extensively since his time. Rudolf Dreikurs built upon Adler s work some years later, and vouched for
the usefulness of the family constellation perspective in psychoanalytic work: A clear formulation

During the Sierra Vista interview people were questioned in their knowledge of the structure of
government. Participants from all three groups were polled. Most (group three being the most
knowledgeable), could not provide appropriate answers to the questions proposed. A participant from
group two, Teresa Suggs was asked to name the three branches of government, her response was as
follows: state, local, and federal. (Suggs, Donolly, Ziska, and Anzuelda) Another participant from
group one answered the same question with this reply: Democrat, Republican, and Liberal . (Suggs,
Donolly, Ziska, and Anzuelda)
In addition, all three groups were polled on the process they use when choosing a candidate for
election. Those who do participate civically do not appear to do any information gathering prior to

Analysis Of Totality And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas
One of the greatest scholars of the twentieth century is Emmanuel Levinas, but the convolution of his
thinking prevents his work from spreading quickly. Totality and Infinity, a book on exteriority is one
of his articles that have been liked by many readers in the past and recent times. The writer
demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how infinite is
an outcome of the correlation of self to other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the
dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his work, infinite is the
beginning or foundation of ethics and, he also declines any ethical intellectualism. Levinas
acknowledges the idea that every human being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because sex can mean different things to different people, any phenomenology of sex should start by
tackling on possible foundational aspects of the experience (Levinas, 108). One the key aspect is the
idea that sexual practice consists of the relations that takes place between to individuals. Naturally,
sexual practice does not need the presence of a second party and in many cases, sexual experience
comprises of many individuals. On the other hand, even in a time when sex occurs solitarily or among
people within the same group, the encounter with another individual can characterize the experience
(Levinas, 108). For example individuals who practice masturbation do that because of remembering
the experience he had with a previous partner. In his work, Levinas tend to argues that a real ethical
relationship can only take place in a situation whereby the self cannot spin the other into an object of
comprehension (Levinas, 108). While not emphasizing broadly on sex and sexuality, the writer in a
few words explicated his opinions on the issue in late part of this book, where he extended his idea of
the face to face ethnic encounter to matter of Eros and productiveness (Levinas, 108).
Encounter with the Other In the book Totality and Infinity, the writer started by illustrating the self as
a naturally egoist way of life (Levinas, 198). He indicated that

Marvin Gaye s Song Ain T No Mountain High Enough
There are so many influential songs that I can relate to. Marvin Gaye, Ain t No Mountain High
Enough , wrote one that stands out. This classic song has lyrics that have withstood time. Many times,
in rigorous courses throughout high school and Nova Southeastern University I sang out this song,
pushing myself forward realizing the mountain in front of me is actually attainable. A person who is
staunch and faithful can conquer any mountain and their desired endeavors. Picking an influential
movie is also quite arduous. However, I can relate to West Side Story. My family is from N.Y.C. and I
can watch this musical over and over again. Tony, a leader of the White gang called the Jets falls in
love with Maria whose brother is a leader of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the top of my list of objects to bring the Bible would be number one. Being able to read the Bible
daily would give me strength, wisdom and guidance. I normally attend Sunday church services and
without attending a service the Bible would inspire me to keep the faith on a deserted island. There are
so many verses in the Old and New Testament that would embolden and excite me. Here is a prime
example in the Book of Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am
your God. I will strengthen you and help you Until I would be rescued I would also need a knife. This
weapon would allow me to shield myself and also be used as a means of gathering food. While a gun
would soon run out of ammunition, a knife can be recycled countless times for protection and for
hunting or fishing. Over the last few years I have hiked the Appalachian Trail and have become a
knowledgeable camper and hunter. These life occurrences certainly would contribute to a prolonged
stay on a deserted island. Lastly, I would want a first aid medicine kit. Although we take for granted
our health it is imperative to have a kit with band aids, bug spray, Neosporin and other simple
medications. Cuts, allergies and infections will occur and a simple first aid kit would be particularly
significant, because sometimes insignificant lacerations can quickly escalate to large and dangerous

Leadership Styles-Leadership Training From Mindtools
Leaders styles encompass how they relate to others within and outside the organization, how they
view themselves and their position, and to a very large extent whether or not they are successful as
leaders (Community Tool Box, n.d.). Psychologist Kurt Lewin developed his framework in the 1930s,
and it provided the foundation for leadership ( Leadership Styles Leadership Training From
MindTools.com, n.d.). He argued that there are three major styles of leadership: Autocratic leaders,
Democratic leaders, and Laissez faire, these particular leadership styles can explore the advantages
and disadvantages of you used within a business or health organization ( Leadership Styles Leadership
Training From MindTools.com, n.d.). Here are a few examples from the MindTool: Autocratic ...

The transactional leadership style and transformational leadership tools can help within or outside of
the organization. Transactional leadership helps a leader to transactions between leader and followers,
and a transformational leader thinks about changing the world, even if only on a small scale
(Community Tool Box, n.d.). Although there is no guarantee that either a transactional or
transformational leader will be an effective it will be left upon the individual themselves. A
transformational leader thinks about changing the world, even if only on a small scale (Community
Tool Box, n.d.). However, when breaking down the two different tools of leadership Dr. Martian
Luther King Jr. was a perfect example of a transformational leader. Dr. King show an overwhelming in
depth of true leadership when he delivered his I Have A Dream speech this was a man who show great
strength in the midst of his fears, create unity, and convincing people that a vision is reachable while

Geoffrey Chaucer s The Shipman s Tale
The structure and characters of Geoffrey Chaucer s The Shipman s Tale warp the traditional in order to
create a thriving network for exchange. Stylistically, this particular tale utilizes common conventions
of the fabliau: sex, trickery, and poetic justice. That being said, The Shipman s Tale is completely void
of an overall moral message a key element in the genre. Instead, there is a focus on the presence of
male and female characters who work to fulfill an individual agenda, and on the [exploration of] each
other s intentions in cloaked terms... [and the avoidance of] direct commitment (Finlayson 342).
Chaucer rejuvenates the fabliau s structure, which allows the Merchant, his wife, and the Monk to
each assume the mercantile roles of borrower, lender, seller and purchaser of goods without seriously
harming their relationships (Finlayson 343). As a result, the meaning of the tale is not embedded in the
fulfillment of norms of this genre, but in its displacement of these conventions by focus on the
exchanges between the characters. John Finlayson points out that since licit and illicit sex are
paralleled with honest and dishonest trade... [The Shipman s Tale] only recognizes the non ideal world
of suspended moral laws, lustful hedonism and deceit , thus establishing the immoral series of events
between the Monk, the Merchant, and his wife as an acceptable reality (349). This common ground
between the three characters creates a community where the interchangeability of

The History of Art at Iowa State University Essay
Have you ever been to Iowa State University and seen all of the magnificent art that is located on
campus? Iowa State is home to one of the largest campus public art collections in the United States.
There are over 2,000 works of public art (George Washington Carver). The foundation of the
contemporary Art on Campus Collection and Program began during the Depression in the 1930s,
when Iowa State s President Hughes envisioned that, The arts would enrich and provide substantial
intellectual exploration into our college curricula (George Washington Carver). Who doesn t love art?

We live in a world where there is lots of judging and I believe people may not even give some art
pieces a chance. In the 1940s, Christian Petersen sculpted a plaster figure of George Washington
Carver. According to an article from Iowa State Museums, This is one of the few free standing, full
length sculptures that Petersen ever made (George Washington Carver). He sculpted Carver as an old
man holding a single peanut in his hands. Petersen s intentions were to emphasize Carver s vision for
the future of agriculture (George Washington Carver). George Washington Carver was the first African
American to attend Iowa State, and I personally didn t know this until I saw the sculpture located near
Carver Hall. Art has its meanings, even if sometimes you aren t looking for them. A quote from
George Washington Carver shows how much he cared for this blessed university, I have no words to
adequately express my impressions of dear old I.S.C. (Iowa State College). All I am and all I hope to
be, I owe in a very large measure to this blessed institution (Mark Bagley). When this sculpture was
first created Petersen wasn t able to cast this sculpture in bronze because the cost was too much
money, so he painted the work of art to resemble bronze. The sculpture was originally put inside
Carver Hall on the first floor lobby (George Washington Carver). If this was put outside it would have
just got ruined by the weather, since the snow and cold could

The Unmanned Aerial System can also loiter at a different speed presenting the opportunity of other
aircraft to overtaking the UAS. Due to this ability, potential midair collision scenarios are numerous.
Two critical technological functions will separate the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle s architectures in the
system. The vehicle s ability to control the vehicle, survey and avoid must be addressed by the FAA to
mitigate the risk of midair and ground collision factors. UAS technology can perform hovering
functions and offers potential advantages of lethal or non lethal weapons; Thermal infrared visual EO

items and then some could aid in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The information could take longer to receive due to windows of opportunity, and other forms of
interferences. Emergencies would not receive the depth of perception supplied by the capabilities a
UAS can provide. There would still be intrusion into our lives but in some cases (depending on who
you are) on a smaller scale. The possibility of midair and ground collisions would occur. It unrealistic
to say our condition would be worst but forward progress would be hampered. Recommendations The
FAA is bound by Title 49 of the US Code that governs transportation; Subtitle I of Title 49 which
governs the DOT, and Subtitle VII which governs aviation programs. This charges the FAA that they
shall consider ....assigning and maintaining safety as the highest priority in air commerce and
enhancing safety (Weibel, 2005). The classification of UAVs is so broad in nature any craft could fit;
as one writer stated, Could also include paper airplanes (Weibel, 2005). It is recommended the FAA
continue to work with all other relevant governing agencies, and public entities to create better
regulations that are specifically applicable to every class of Unmanned Aerial System. Although there
are guidelines set forth by the FAA, laying a better foundation of classification of each Unmanned
Aerial System that covers capabilities, flight envelope, and specified usage. These guidelines must be
applicable across the board. The FAA should put just as much thought

The Transmogrification of Venus to Mary in the Works of...
The works of Sandro Botticelli are among the most revered of renaissance painting. The sweeping
curves of his women and the ethereal beauty of their gazes are recognized instantaneously: from a
grandmother in a small town to the cognoscenti of New York or Paris, few can claim to be unmoved
by his work. Patronized by the Vatican as well as one of the most rich and powerful Florentines of his
time, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, Botticelli was hugely popular in his own day. His most
magnificent work, the Primavera, as well as The Birth of Venus, Camilla and the Centaur, and Mars
and Venus contain entirely mythological figures whose significances have been debated by various art
historians for centuries. Born as Alessandro di ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you were to unite with her in wedlock and claim her as yours, she would make all your years sweet
(Hartt and Wilkins 378). This passage could have countless connotations. The one that seems to make
the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his upcoming marriage to
Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the figures that he did because
they held a strong meaning for him since he received the aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way
Venus is used in this picture along with the Three Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has
mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken
out of context, Venus could mean anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and
gardens, along with Flora (Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it
could suggest fertility being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that
the picture is showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a
virginal, pure looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2). The fact that there are, blossoming off of
the orange trees, ripe sumptuous fruits is congruent with the fertility theme as well as the fact that
oranges are part of the Medici coat of arms (Hartt and Watkins 379). Or is could be all of these ideas

Venezuela Economic Crisis Essay
Over 135,000 Venezuelans waited on an international bridge to enter Colombia so that they could
shop for food, toiletries, and medicine which are hardly available in any of the country s stores. The
government of Venezuela had closed the borders a year ago, but briefly ordered them open twice this
week. Governments made the decision to open the borders after 500 women, mostly dressed in white,
broke through the border controls to buy food in Colombia on July 10. Many of the Venezuelans sold
their personal items to be able to afford food and groceries, and some invested their savings and
emergency funds to provide for basic necessities of their families. This is money we had been saving
for an emergency, and this is an emergency, said Ramiro Ramirez, who crossed the border ... Show

Things are hard and we urgently need food. I have a granddaughter who s 2, and we can only give her
mashed potatoes because we can t find rice or pasta, never mind milk, Mariana Montes told Wall
Street Journal. Venezuela has experienced cyclic economic crisis for decades, and the recent one is
triggered by falling oil prices (country s major source of revenue), and consequent balance of payment
crunch and triple digit inflation, all of which led to shortages of food and household product supplies.
Already the multinationals are closing offices in Venezuela, shops are short of basic supplies such as
oil, rice, flour, and sugar, and if the situation gets worse, it might deal a hard blow to the country.
Protests and riots have become more frequent in the country since September last year when economic
condition gradually started getting worse. MarketWatch reported that inflation is predicted to rise and
cross 1,640 pert by next year. The nation s currency Bolivar has taken a sharp plunge downward, and
has made it more difficult for the people to afford products of daily

An Analysis of Employee Rights vs. Employer Rights
An Analysis of Employee Rights vs. Employer Rights BSAD 319 Professional Ethics 4/29/2012
When comparing the granted rights of employees versus employers, it does not truly seem that either
party has the advantage. These factors can often vary depending on state laws and regulations, and it
appears when consulting these laws, that there are many loopholes due to the gray areas that
accompany behavioral legal situations. There are many occurrences of foul play, stereotyping and
opinionated biases that seem to have caused and shaped these existing laws. Very much like the
medical field now, it seems that many employers have taken tedious extra precautions in order to
avoid legislation with what may be disgruntled past employees. ... Show more content on

This can be interpreted unfairly, due to the fact that many things ingested by the human body can
appear to be harmful on a urine test. This inaccuracy paired with human lab errors in the analysis stage
can lead to problems for an employee, for no legitimate reason. As stated in an article published by the
American Civil Liberties Union, The lab procedure is a second invasion of privacy. Urinalysis reveals
not only the presence of illegal drugs, but also the existence of many other physical and medical
conditions, including genetic predisposition to disease or pregnancy. In 1988, the Washington, D.C.
Police Department admitted it used urine samples collected for drug tests to screen female employees
for pregnancy without their knowledge or consent. Furthermore, human error in the lab, or the test s
failure to distinguish between legal and illegal substances, can make even a small margin of error add
up to a huge potential for false positive results. (American Civil Liberties Union, 1997.) The
disclosure of pregnancy is a very difficult topic for women in the workplace. It is one of the reasons
that women have been unable to attain the same status of men in a professional setting, and it is still
one of the reasons why women are not making the same salary amounts statistically, as most men. The
fact that this information is available to the employer without permission, is not only a side product of
drug

  • 2. Research Paper On Pascal s Wager Pascal s wager is basically the belief in God to allow the permission to get into the gold pearly gates, also known as Heaven. Pascal weighs out the good and the bad when believing in God to determine what he should believe. When weighing out the good it way over steps the bad, since the bad is a life long eternity spent in hell. The only down side is that there may have been a little time lost from your life when trying to learn more about God. Believing in God is a simple and a really easy choice to make, so you do not have to spend eternity in Hell. People can look at every argument in the existence of God and wonder if it is true or not, when simply just believing would could potentially benefit you. If that means following blind and having a hard time raping your mind around the possibility that God might actually exist, then that is ok. If it is hard finding a religion you believe in, then just say you believe in God and see where that takes you. God could actually save the ones with knowledge to fight the arguments of Gods existence, by simply knowing since they are smart enough to believe in him to benefit them selves, then they can do what they want with the knowledge they have and Heaven is waiting for them. Believing in God to get your self into the pearly golden gates is not a bad idea at all. The positive consequences most definitely way out the bad, and it is clearly better to believe in God and waste a little time if there does happen to be no God. Heathcliff A Bad Man but where did he come from, the little dark thing, harbored by a good man to his bane (Bronte c34) Heathcliff is a very troubled and dark man, but he did not become this way overnight. In this essay, I will be explaining how Heathcliff became who he was and how he morphed from an abandoned street urchin into a diabolical wealthy Miser. Many things or people influence Heathcliff s life such as how he has been treated, the violence displayed to him and from him, and Catherine and the way she acts when she is with him and when she is with others. All of these factors have made Heathcliff the way he was portrayed at the end of the novel. In the beginning of Nelly s story, we learn that Heathcliff was adopted by Mr. Earnshaw. When Mr. Earnshaw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earnshaw dies their bond becomes stronger. Then everything goes south for Heathcliff when Catherine meets Edgar and chooses to marry him. I believe that this upsets Heathcliff so much because Catherine is his only friend and this is when Heathcliff really starts being manipulative and evil. While Catherine was staying with Edgar Hindley treats Heathcliff like a servant and denies him an education. This infuriated Heathcliff so he leaves for 3 years. As a result of Hindley s torture Heathcliff becomes bitter and uncivilized. Heathcliff swears revenge against Hindley and then follows through when he moves back to wuthering heights and takes everything from him Hindley in a game of poker. After he s pretty much ruined Hindley s life and turns Hareton into a miniature Heathcliff it is not enough. Heathcliff marries Isabella and then tortures her in their marriage so much so that she just leaves so that he can secretly torture Edgar by being the heir to his fortune. This is the time when Heathcliff starts showing his diabolical ways and begins to ruin everyone s life. Heathcliff is very evil and I think that it spawns from when he was a child, and how mistreated he was and now he just wants to miss treat everyone in his life so that they feel the anguish that he always ... • 4. How Is Entertainment Ruining Society Mr. Gabler s assertion that entertainment would eventually ruin society, although not entirely invalid, is not correct. Entertainment has been a near essential part of culture since culture has been around. While entertainment has been a part of society for an indefinite time in recent years it has become increasingly integrated into the everyday lives of people. In the 18th century a popular example of entertainment would be the theatre. This was the era of great poets and writers like Shakespeare. Despite the increasing notoriety these establishments attained the people who regularly attended still only did so on a weekly basis and would not have had more than two or three hours worth of exposure to these events. This meant that the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No longer are people spending a few hours per week on entertaining events like plays or fairs. Rather we see a complete integration of entertainment into daily life. Television runs on a 24/7 basis, the internet is constantly available for entertaining purposes, and shows or movies are streamed by the billions per year. This constant exposure to entertainment has given people less time to think and therefore has blurred the lines between the entertainment and reality. In fact, entities like reality TV has completely negated any sense of fictional entertainment. This has had conflicting effects. Smoking, for example, is commonly considered to be highly detrimental to your health. This is advertised today in commercials, shows, and movies. However, it is these same methods of defaming it that it became a widespread issue originally. In the mid 20th century smoking became wildly popular due to famous movie stars being portrayed as smoking. Disadvantages Of Incremental Budgeting Incremental budget Incremental budgeting is a process that is mainly concerned with the incremental (or marginal) adjustments to the current budgeted allowance. This method can be used by Excellent Year Ltd if they are not having any major changes compared to the previous year. Advantages of incremental budgeting Incremental budgeting is easily understood (as it is retrospective), makes marginal changes and secures agreement through negotiation. It is administratively straightforward (and therefore cheap) and allows policy makers to concentrate of the key areas of change. As long as the company doesn t go over full capacity, fixed cost will not fluctuate. Using flexible budgeting is possible when the product demand varies. Flexible budgets separate the fixed and variable costs, which then allows for budgets to be set automatically to an activity level. Thus, variances between actual costs and budgeted costs are set for volume fluctuations before differences due to price and quantity factors are computed. At first, flexible budgets are used to accurately measure performance because they compare actual costs for a given output with the budgeted costs for the same level of output. The bad thing of a flexible budget is that, by not allowing the manager to insert set figures, it is also difficult to estimate. • 6. The Importance Of The Uniform Commercial Code The Uniform Commercial Code is a set of legal rules that was developed to bring about a sense of consistency to the commercial industry. It is merely a blueprint of how the developers interpret the way of doing business that would be fair and just to all parties concerned. It was totally up to the individual states if they would enact the UCC as written or construct modifications they felt were necessary to circumstances within that state. Once the codes were adopted by an individual state, they became the legal authority that still governs the way many business transactions are handled today. The Uniform Commercial Code has been one of the standards for doing business in North Carolina since 1965. Over the years, there have been changes and modifications to the originally adopted code; but, it is important to note that the basics of justice and fairness to all parties involved, have remained the same. As important as the UCC is to commerce today, it is by no means the only law governing business. Prior to the adoption of the UCC, the legal authority for just about every aspect of life business or personal has been Common Law. Although the UCC encompasses the ways of commerce today, it is important to remember that business thrives on contracts and Contract Law is still a major portion of Common Law. It stands to reason that each is just as important as the other when it comes to the standards of doing business. There are probably a wide range of opinions as to whether ... These were the famous words Friedrich Nietzsche spoke and almost everyone in this world can probably relate to it.Lying seems so universal, but no one can really agree if it s warranted or not. After reviewing a few opinionated and factual articles on lying, the opinionated conclusion is lying is almost always never justified unless it is to protect someone from getting hurt. In A Philosopher On Lying , by Mary Alder, a philosopher named, Immanuel Kant, has his perspective on lying as, Don t tell someone a lie, Kant said, because then you are not treating that person with respect, as an individual. .This statement at first glance may seem valid, but let s take a closer look.If your mom had breast cancer and she told you about it but, said not to mention it to your dad for fear that he might get a heart attack, what would you do? Especially what shall you do if he asks you if you know anything about your mom acting weird lately? The majority of you reading this most likely have switched sides against Immanuel Kant, but, for those who think, Well, surely he must have had made an exception about protecting someone s life, you are wrong. The human mind is a puzzle, a puzzle that had puzzled great minds since the days of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Today, mankind s knowledge of their own psychology is but the tip of the iceberg to the complete story. The human mind often acts in spontaneous and unexpected ways. Yet, the reason about why people behave the way they do is certain. People are motivated by power, specifically the illusion of control, anger, and jealousy caused by power, to perform extreme acts. The abundance of power can create an illusion of control that can be damaging to one and the ones around him or her. Commenting on his heritage, Don John states it better fits my blood to be disdained/ of all than to fashion a carriage to rob love from any (Ado.I.iii.26 27). Through his honesty, Don John expressed jealousy toward his brother s popularity among the group. Conrade, Don John s royal servant, advised Don John to retain a positive relationship with his brother, which was a logical advice due to the influence Don Pedro has over the others and his role as a leader in the play, as evident when he planned the marriage proposal to Hero at the party. Don John s jealousy influenced him to plot against the engagement of Hero and Claudio, who was Don Pedro s loyal soldier. In his article, Murderous Envy, Dr. Peter Langman describes motivations for students to attempt or contemplate homicide. Interestingly, he stated [f]ew shooters kill anyone who has harassed them, and that shooters are more likely driven by envy than by revenge (Langman). In all the cases the doctor described, including the infamous Columbine shooting, the shooters envied their peer s normality in life. Jurors must acquire a majority verdict in order to sentence an accused to death. Although jurors are asked to be objective, their decisions are, however, more often influenced by values than facts (Devine and Kelly, 393). In fact, based on the Capital Jury Project (CJP) which include 1,200 interviews of jurors who served in 353 death penalty trials in 14 states (Devine and Kelly, 393), Dennis J. This study will be using a qualitative research design. This qualitative design will be accomplished through the use of face to face and phone interviews. This current study seeks to answer the following questions: What parental challenges do Latino immigrant parents face? What resiliencies do Latino immigrant parents obtain? What resources/services do Latino immigrant parents feel they need? What parenting skills, styles, and/or knowledge have Latino immigrant parents used and were they effective in producing positive child outcomes? One advantage of using a qualitative design is that the researchers get more detailed and in depth answers. Another advantage of using a qualitative design is that more complex questions can be asked. Researchers can also explain terms and questions in order to get the most reliable answers. One limitation of using a qualitative design, is the limited number of participants upon which the results are based. Without a large sample size, it is difficult to conclude that the results will be generalized to a larger population size. Another limitation of this study is that the research results will be based on self reports which limits the reliance on the data. Participants may not truthfully report their behaviors and feelings. • 14. Persuasive Essay On The Public Transportation System What started out as a trip to Philadelphia ended up turning into a unique experience with public transportation. There is more to public transportation than hopping on a bus or train and just getting to your destination. There are unsaid rules that go along with riding in the public transportation system and the point of my exploration remix is to share these rules with any other college students who do not fully understand them. Without being aware of the unsaid rules, it is very easy to break them. I want to prevent college students from making the mistake of embarking on the public transportation system with no prior knowledge and prevent students from breaking any of the rules like I did. My remix serves to provide quick information for those who want to use public transportation. College students primarily will not take the time to seriously read through a handbook for public transportation nor sit down to watch a video. However, a flyer with only a few sentences is readable and convenient. All a flyer needs is a little bit of color and bold lettering and there it is! One of the rhetorical ideas I used was humor. Humor is a great tool when used correctly because the listener will start to pay attention when they laugh. I achieved this appeal to pathos by using cartoons on the flyer. It is easy to glance over something and not read it but when something small makes one chuckle, they will retain the information received. Using a tool such as humor allows the work to be memorable. Technologically this was a tough assignment. At first, the original plan was to make a short video type public service announcement. Unfortunately, I did not possess the knowledge to create one. Regardless, making a flyer may be more effective for college students. I have incredibly awful handwriting, so for me to draw any sort of flyer would be a waste of time. A more aesthetically pleasing method would be to create a flyer online using microsoft word, multiple colors as well as a small amount of photography. This is exactly what I did. There were many things I would have liked to do with the flyer, but since I lacked technical knowledge, I could not achieve these ideas. • 16. The Morality Of Law By John Finnis This is also in accordance to the theories made by John Finnis, a naturalist, who proposes that humans need law to help them achieve their own projects in life and any rule that hinders them from doing so can be rightfully disobeyed given that it doesn t cause a social distortion. With all these adding up, we can see why he considers the procedure of lawmaking as the internal morality of law. An analogy was given by him with his principles of legality being labelled as the rules to using the tool, law. If the rules are not followed then the tool cannot be used to its fullest extent and thus the definition of the law is not realised. Accommodation to the principle is morale as it helps in achieving a human s greatest purpose in life. His idea of internal morality of law is illustrated in his book, The Morality of Law, through a story of a fictional king named Rex who applied his rules in ways that always resulted in a failure. Fuller laid out the failed attempts of ruling and turns it into a list of eight Principles of Legality or as he calls it as, Desideratum of Law. He contends that the conditions of the principle have to be met for a legal system to be considered as valid, and the lack of it fails as such. That said, in order for a legal system to be recognised, first and essentially, there must be rules. It is not enough for someone to give out commands, there must be proper law. The rules then need to be publicised, prospective, understandable, non contradictory, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anything from going for a walk or going from a 5 mile run will make a lasting effect. Some people take exercise to the extreme and use high intensity training. During intense exercise the body gets pushed to its limits. The cardiovascular system is one that is pushed to its bounds. While at rest the heart is beating at about 70 beats per minute. During vigorous exercise, the heart rate increases dramatically. The general rule to find the maximum heart rate is taking 206.9 (0.67 x age) (Waehner). For an average 20 year old, that is about 194 beats per minute which is over double the heart at rest. The increase in heart rate is because it is doing everything it can to push blood to the muscles during that time. The muscles demand 50% of the blood flow during intensive exercise, whereas they only demand 10% while at rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As one who lives a life rather than a lifestyle myself, I find this opening to the essay to conjure linguistic maneuvers of the conservative right used to dismiss the grievances of gay men. While I may be going out on a limb in this analysis, most often the binary life vs. lifestyle is code for heterosexual vs. homosexual in short, gays and lesbians don t live lives but rather we live lifestyles. Ours are mockeries of real lives, thus requiring the supplemental style. Rogoff is not sure what a gay play...might be. In truth, this is no easy question, and there are no easy answers to it. Are the plays of Tennessee Williams, such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and The Glass Menagerie gay plays, since the author was gay? Or do only his later works qualify as gay plays, as they focused specifically on gay material? Are any of the plays of William Shakespeare gay plays, for that matter? • 20. My Future As A Military Officer And My Current Life At The... This particular lesson I felt was extremely applicable to both my future as a military officer and my current life at the academy. This reading focuses on conflict among members in an organization. The reading describes common issues that lead to unhealthy conflict and how to avoid those issues. Conflict is seen as a good thing in organizations as it creates a more complete understanding of the choices, it creates a better range or options, and ultimately allows for effective decisions making. However, it needs to be effectively managed to have a successful organization. Conflict can sometimes turn unproductive, as comments can be interpreted as personal attacks. The reading offers six tactics for managing interpersonal conflict. Of these six, I see the idea of focus on the facts as the most important. This tactic states that the more information that one can provide to a situation, the less likely conflicting viewpoints will be seen as personal attacks. This is especially true when data is objective and up to date, as numbers do not lie and they are hard to argue. I see this often at the academy when discussing possible changes in policy. Especially in situations that involve many cadets. Often, discussions are very opinion based with little factual information because cadets often do not have access to it. Because of this, these discussions often become a pointless debate. I could make the assumption that this happens in an operational Air Force setting as well. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, as illustrated by Table 1 the relaxed credit standards caused a 39% spike in accounts receivable from 1994 to 1995 (Appendix A). Patrick Bateman s Use Of Dramaturgy In American Psycho Introduction Dramaturgy, or impression management, is the conscious effort an individual puts forth when trying to present a certain impression of himself to others. This is used in things like job interviews in order to highlight certain aspects that one might want others to perceive more vividly. There are also two types of self presentation as well. There is tactical, as just discussed, and then there is authentic. The authentic self is when someone is using his or her own genuine personality. This often requires no thinking in how one should act or portray. In contrast to the job interview using a tactical self presentation, the authentic presentation would be when an individual is associating with friends or close family. The individual s actions are free flowing and he can feel relaxed. Furthermore, there are several components to dramaturgy. This analysis will center around the main character of Salinger s story, Holden , who appears to have developed an inferiority complex in his early life which he attempts to make up for with antisocial and dishonest de identification behaviour. The Adlerian model of psychoanalysis is ideally suited for the character of Holden and provides a number of insights into the influences upon Holden, the state of his mind and the motivations that make up his unique character. Alfred Adler, a renowned and highly influential psychologist who came to prominence in the early part of the 20th century coined the term family constellation , which served as a metaphor to describe the influence of familial bonds and dynamics upon the personality development of individuals, particularly children. Adler s conception of the family constellation has been adopted and studied extensively since his time. Rudolf Dreikurs built upon Adler s work some years later, and vouched for the usefulness of the family constellation perspective in psychoanalytic work: A clear formulation ... Stylistically, this particular tale utilizes common conventions of the fabliau: sex, trickery, and poetic justice. That being said, The Shipman s Tale is completely void of an overall moral message a key element in the genre. Instead, there is a focus on the presence of male and female characters who work to fulfill an individual agenda, and on the [exploration of] each other s intentions in cloaked terms... Chaucer rejuvenates the fabliau s structure, which allows the Merchant, his wife, and the Monk to each assume the mercantile roles of borrower, lender, seller and purchaser of goods without seriously harming their relationships (Finlayson 343). As a result, the meaning of the tale is not embedded in the fulfillment of norms of this genre, but in its displacement of these conventions by focus on the exchanges between the characters. John Finlayson points out that since licit and illicit sex are paralleled with honest and dishonest trade... [The Shipman s Tale] only recognizes the non ideal world of suspended moral laws, lustful hedonism and deceit , thus establishing the immoral series of events between the Monk, the Merchant, and his wife as an acceptable reality (349). The one that seems to make the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his upcoming marriage to Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the figures that he did because they held a strong meaning for him since he received the aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way Venus is used in this picture along with the Three Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken out of context, Venus could mean anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and gardens, along with Flora (Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it could suggest fertility being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that the picture is showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a virginal, pure looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2).
