Optimism Definition Essay
Crafting an essay on the concept of optimism presents a unique set of challenges that may not be
immediately apparent. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of information but in capturing the
essence of optimism itself. The subject demands a delicate balance between defining optimism,
exploring its various facets, and delving into its subjective nature.
To start, one must grapple with the abstract nature of optimism. Unlike more concrete topics,
optimism is a complex and multifaceted concept that can be interpreted differently by
individuals. This inherent subjectivity makes it challenging to pin down a universally accepted
definition. It requires a nuanced exploration that considers cultural, personal, and historical
perspectives.
Moreover, the challenge extends to striking the right tone. An essay on optimism should inspire
positivity without oversimplifying the complexities of life. It's about walking the fine line
between acknowledging the harsh realities of the world while embracing a hopeful outlook.
Achieving this balance in language and style requires a thoughtful and measured approach.
Another obstacle lies in the need for depth. Optimism is not a mere surface-level concept; it
involves understanding the psychological, social, and even physiological aspects that contribute
to a positive mindset. This necessitates thorough research and the integration of various
disciplines, making the essay a challenging endeavor that goes beyond mere definition.
Additionally, the writer must be attuned to the potential pitfalls of clichГ©s and platitudes. An
essay on optimism risks becoming trite if it merely reiterates common sayings without offering
fresh insights or perspectives. Striking a balance between familiarity and originality becomes
crucial to keep the essay engaging and impactful.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the definition of optimism requires navigating through the
intricate web of subjectivity, maintaining a delicate balance in tone, delving into the complexity
of the concept, and avoiding the pitfalls of clichГ©s. It is a task that demands both intellectual
rigor and creative finesse.

Fossil Fuel Vs. Fossil Fuels
Opening Scientists say that the earth has existed for over 4.5 billion years (Sarfati,
Jonathan). In fact, if we condensed the entire history of the earth into a 1 year
period it would show that humans would only have existed in its final hour. Over
these billions of years plant and animal remains have decayed from exposure to
heat and pressure to form natural deposits of fossil fuels (Science Daily). There are
3 types of fossil fuels that we use today. Oil, coal, and natural gasmake up the
majority of our energy source. These resources have been developing in the earth s
crust for billions of years before humans came into existence. Without fossil fuels the
world would not be where it is today. The purpose of this paper is to explain the
fundamentals of each fossil fuel, the advantages and disadvantages of using fossil
fuels as an energy source, and how they shape the world we live in today.
Non Renewable Energy Fossil fuels are one of the hot topics of the modern world.
Perhaps the biggest problem we face today is the shortage of fossil fuels, and the
lack of new energy sources to replace them. Fossil fuels are considered non
renewable. Oil, coal, and natural gas have revolutionized the world we live in. These
fossil fuels have ignited an economic and social boom that has never been seen
before. It has allowed industrialization to grow the population exponentially. In 1875,
just before the first industrial revolution, the world s population was roughly 1.325
billion.
My Love Of Art
Question (Q): So just to get some basic information, where are you from? Kumi
Yamashita (Kumi): I was born in a small town not that far outside of Tokyo. I
moved to the United states when I was in high school as a foreign exchange
student. Q: How did you discover that you loved art? Kumi: I don t really
remember when art wasn t a part of my life in some way or form. Both of my
parents were involved in very creative occupations. My mother made all of the
clothes for my sister and I, as she had studied fashion for most of her life. My dad
was particularly interested in traditional styles of Japanese crafts and drawings. He
was an industrial design professor who spent his free time sculpting. My parents
encouraged my sister and I to draw and express ourselves. I always loved drawing
and I spent hours of my childhood with a pencil in my hand, in fact, my father named
me kumi, which uses two chinese characters В the first character е·Ґ translates as to
make or create and the second character зѕЋ translates as beauty . so maybe my dad
jinxed me! (Butler) Q: How did you decide to take your love of art and transition it to
becoming an artist ? Kumi: I don t think there was ever a specific moment in my
life where I decided that I was going to be an artist. It just kind of happened. It sounds
cheesy but I just do what I love every day, and I guess now I am an artist. Q: Your
artwork isn t a typical painting or sculpture, in your words, how would you describe

Military Desertion Research Paper
Bryce Peterson

If Military hierarchies are not an effective form of ranking systems how have they
been successfully used for thousands of years? Although it is true that there is tension
among the military, there are several reasons that debunk all theories about justifying
military desertion and treason. For thousands of years all branches of any nations or
empires Army were extensively trained for combat and situations that may arise in
that environment. To say a officer in the military would leave even under command
not to because they are under stress, is a very poor reason to break the law and
millitarys codes.
Since the beginning of war there have been troops leaving there post, and since the

Descriptive Essay On The Road
It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited
for the ride. We are about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am
packing and my eyes are drooping because it is early in the morning. I finally get
done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear the engine turning and then
a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as we
unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh
air. In the air I smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of
us. I roll my window up to avoid the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I
see a sign telling me that we are at the border of Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska
... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun behind it. I roll
down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath
in fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks
dead. When we got to the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was
made by two cars who had raced down the road. We hustled into the motel for we
did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I am tired because I can t
sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to fall
into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was
very comforting of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we
went and had breakfast. The motel did not offer much, but it was good enough for
now. We get back on the constructed pavement and headstraight towards Arizona. I
was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with. Nebraska is a
long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for
what felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was
popcorn popping in my ear. Then I realized it was because we were heading up
hills. This was because we were heading towards the mountains. The mountains were
white on the top and what seemed like a very dark blue. Colorado was colder than
the other states, and we did stuff like horseback riding in the mountains and ziplining.

Analysis of Randall Jarrell s The Death of the Ball...
Many of the great poems we read today were written in times of great distress. One
of these writers was Randall Jarrell. After being born on May 6, 1914, in Nashville
Tennessee, Jarrell and his parents moved to Los Angeles where his dad worked as a
photographer. When Mr. and Mrs. Jarrell divorced, Randall and his younger brother
returned to Nashville to live with their mother. While in Nashville, Randall attended
Hume Frogg high school. Randall showed his love for the arts while in high school
by participating in dramatics and journalism. Jarrell continued his career in the arts
when he wrote and edited for Vanderbilt s humor magazine, The Vanderbilt
Masquerader. After earning his graduate degree at Vanderbilt, Jarrell accepted a

When Jarrell says the words, hunched in the belly, the reader gets a very
uncomfortable feeling. In line number three the reader gets visual imagery as well
as slight tactile imagery. The visual imagery comes when Jarrell says, Six miles
from earth. The reader gets a clear image of something being very high above the
ground. When the author says, loosed from the dream of life, the reader gets a
slight feeling of death or a vision of someone dying. The fourth line, I woke to the
black flak and the nightmare fighters, brings the reader visual, auditory and tactile
imagery. The reader can picture someone waking up to shrapnel, from an
exploding bomb, flying by their head. One can hear the gunfire of the, nightmare
fighters, along with the exploding shells. The reader also gets a tactile image
when the author says, I woke up, because everyone knows what it is like to wake
up from a sleep. In the fifth and final line the reader gets a very graphic visual
image. The reader can picture someone s body being so destroyed that instead of
removing the body from the turret the soldiers must wash it out with a hose. Jarrell
also used a great deal of figurative language in this poem. The entire poem is an
extended metaphor. This poem compares the struggles of war with the struggles of
being born. More specifically, it compares being killed the belly of a plane and being
killed in the womb of a mother. We see
Siddhartha Gautama Was A Great Leader
Siddhartha Gautama was the son of a king, indulged like a prince who abandoned
the life of aspiration to pursue Enlightenment. When I lived in Nepal, I went to
school and studied Buddhism. There I learned about his life and the philosophies he
kept in practices. Also, I learned that he was a great leader, and his great ideas such
as the Four Noble Truths, Eightfold path, Nirvana, fundamental wisdoms, the theory
of karma and rebirth, the five precepts and Wheel of Dharma has influenced many
people. I learned about his great achievement and how he was able to create a whole
new religion, Buddhism, which is now known as the fourth largest religion in the
world, by influencing people through his unique practices and philosophy. From this
experience, I learned firsthand that he is a great religious leader who left a legacy
not just on Nepalese culture, but on the whole world.
The founder of Buddhism was a man named Siddhartha Gautama. He was born in
Nepal, just where I was. To be more specific he was born in an eminent garden of
Lumbini which soon rehabilitated to a place of pilgrimage. Even then it wasn t sure
that he was really born in Lumbini, it was a predication. Some Buddhist from last
some century had interrogated about the Siddhartha Gautama birth story, but sighting
them on confident ground when it rises to the later history of Lumbini (Irons). This
was proven by the memorial pillars there, which was created by Indian emperor
Ashoka. King Asoka was the king of Mauryan
The Face-Negotiation Theory and Stella Ting-Toomey Essay
In the world of communication, there are many theories which describe different
ways people communicate. According to Doctor Thomas Hanitzsch, an associate
professor of communication at the University of Munich in Germany,
Communication Theory is an international forum publishing high quality, original
research into the theoretical development of communicationfrom across a wide array
of disciplines ( Communication Theory ). A specific communication theory that will
be highlighted is the FaceNegotiation theory developed by Stella Ting Toomey.
Simply stated, Dr. Ting Toomey suggests that conflict is a consequence of identity
management on an individual and cultural level, and occurs when an individual or
group s face is threatened.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some additional information includes, that according to Stella Ting Toomey s Home
on the Web, Dr. Ting Toomey has held major leadership roles in international
communication associations and has served on more than fifteen editorial boards (
Stella ). To further explain the theory of Face Negotiation, when Dr. Ting Toomey
suggests conflict is a consequence of identity management on an individual and
cultural level, she means that culture has a significant impact in regards to identity
management. One s culture has defined rules as to how someone is to properly
interact amongst other individuals and groups, and these rules include values, norms,
beliefs and traditions. Generally, an individual would strive to adhere and follow all
of their culture s rules, and in turn, would view another individual turning against
those rules as a threat to their overall culture or beliefs. Similarly, Dr. Ting Toomey
states that conflict can come from a clash of these rules, a misinterpretation, or as a
result of misapplying certain expectations and standards for behavior for a given
situation (Griffin List ). The Face Negotiation theory suggests there are three goals
that any conflict will revolve around; content, relational and identity, or rather, needs,
interests or goals. Based on M. Afzalur Rahim s work, Dr. Ting Toomey and later
John Oetzel, identified eight distinct responses to conflicting situations based on an
incompatibility (Griffin
The Benefits of the Proposed California High Speed Rail
California High Speed Rail High speed rail transportation has become an important
issue in California that could potentially help our current transportation system and
other environmental issues that need to be dealt with. This is an important issue to
look into because currently our transportation system could be a lot more efficient
using high speed rail instead of just the current car and air system that we have right
now. Because of this there are a lot of potential benefits from the economic side of
putting a high speed rail system in California from saving time, money, and fast
efficient mobility throughout the state. These benefits also include a stimulus
towards the state s economy in forms of employment and income growth due towards
construction and implementation even if these aren t permanent jobs. Some
environmental benefits of a high speed transportation is a decrease in pollution, using
less nonrenewable resources such as oil, and decreasing the amount of other modes
of transportation that currently need to be used. It is controversial though because of
the cost of implementing such high speed transportation, versus the current
transportation system that we already have. These increasing costs of implementing
the have current plan for high speed rail have caused great concern because of costs
such high possible costs needed to implement compared to its benefits. My problem
that I have come up with is it cost effective and beneficial for the state of

crisis have also triggered off a very fierce debate about the impact of the neoliberal
era and the structure of the modern financial system. From the neoclassical
perspective each of these crisis required a new model to explain past events but it
always viewed the crisis to be cause by an external factor, a distortion to the market
mechanism. As a result of these crisis a discourse, which does not accept the
neoclassical assumptions about the economy has attracted more attention. When the

The main gist of these free market reforms have been captured in the Washington
Consensus ideas. The neoliberal era refers to a period during which these believes
were widely upheld and respective reforms were introduced. In the developed
countries it is most often Ronald Regan in the United States and Margaret Thatcher
in the United Kingdom, who are presented as the main neoliberal agents. The
international economic institutions (IMF, Worldbank and WTO), which conducted
structural adjustment programmes are often seen as those that imposed these
reforms on the developing world. The neoliberal set of policies is often connected
to increasing financialisation of the world economy (Fine, 2009). Finance did not
only become a greater part of GDP but above all it became more strategically
important for economic development. Stock of global financial assets in years 1980
2007 has increased tenfold and constituted almost 4.5 times the multiple of world
GDP (Palma, 2009). It has been suggested that while the activities of a financial
system in the neoliberal era consume more of national income, they become
detrimental to the real economy (Dymski, 2011). This is due to the transformation of
the relationship created between the lender and the borrower in a neoliberal era,
which will be explored in greater detail further. The term financial fragility refers to a
situation where the economy is vulnerable to financial crisis. It suggests
Personal Statement On Hard Work
Focused, hard work is the real key to success. Keep our eyes on the goals, and just
keep taking the next step towards completing it. If we are not sure which way to
do something, do it both ways and see which work better . (John Carmack) As each
day that we live there is always something we want to accomplish in our life span
to remember for the rest of our live and for that reason we set goals to plan and
work for it. Goals are what give us direction in life setting us a personal target to
shoot for. And for this reason is why we take severe course of action to accomplish
our goals with perseverance. But it important to develop severe quality in order to
achieve our goals like having a determination that will fuel ourselves to work for our
goals until we have fulfill it. Also, believein ourselves when no else think it possible
to do the impossible in addition it very vital to have commitments because it is
what spurs us to take action and what we would be willing to give 100 % to achieve
. This is why we must take these actions so that we can have a better chance of
accomplishing our goals.
To begin we must have a determination in order to reach our goals no matter what the
obstacles is put before us. Determination is what connect our physically and mentally
characteristic together to work against any odds that is put against us. Some people
may achieve success by luck, but most by determination only. Some people give up
easily, while some fight until the end. If there

Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado states that there are 150 lakes and 450
miles of streams. This kind of wetland ecosystem is prominent for featuring dense
wildlife environments in which elk, moose, big horn sheep, black bears, and
cougars thrive. Furthermore, the Continental Divide is located in the Rocky
Mountains. The Rocky Mountains are widely considered one of the most
biologically diverse regions in the world and the Rocky Mountain s flora and
fauna are no exception. Elk herds can range from 300 to 800 each winter,
approximately 350 bighorn sheep, and various mule and deer populations, along
with small geese populations flying overhead. It is precisely this diversity that
makes the Rockies so appealing to tourists every year. In addition, there are 60
other species of mammals, 280 recorded bird species, six amphibian species (the
endangered boreal toad is included), one reptile (i.e. garter snake), 11 species of
fish, and countless species of insects, including a large number of butterflies. Elk

among the meadows and densely populated forests. During the summer, elk are
likely to stay above treeline and move to lower elevations during the seasons of fall,
winter, and spring. Also, elk generally feed around dusk and dawn. Bighorn sheep

The Orthodox View Of Orthodox Church
Orthodox is a religion that is talked less among strong Christian believers. Many of
the population don t even know that it exists, youth, and old adults are more likely
to discuss the religion Catholicism. Directly following the social protocol, many
think that orthodox is a religion that died out long time ago and few never learns
the history behind of its being in this world. Unlike the other denominations,
Orthodox churches have followed strict rules and scriptures that have been passed
down from generations. Many of my friends may say, Orthodox is not a true
religion. Stop wasting your time! As a member of the Orthodox faith for eighteen
years, I can only replay and say, You have no idea what you are talking about. In this
DCA paper, I will write to show that I am part of the Orthodox church, logically
explain why Orthodox altar boys is so strong, and illustrate how this type of
commitment affects your emotional life to prove that I belong in the Orthodox
discourse community.
I have always admired my faith, since birth I have been grown to believe Orthodox
scriptures and to follow the undying faith. I nearly never understood what certain
motions of a priest during a service or what some of the readings meant in my years
as a child. The recognition of church faith began when I was 12 years old, as a
member of the St. Mary s, now called St. Mary s Valliyapally, in Farmers Branch,
Carrolton, TX. I started to learn the importance of each word in the prayer book, and

Western Film Research Paper
Western Essay
Alannah Jones
When you think about film genre, you may ask yourself questions such as, how has
it evolved over time? Why has it evolved over time? How has it shaped popular
culture? Film, regardless of the genre, consists of elements, in which makes it a film.
In a western genre, you may look for elements such as costumes, effects/editing, and
narrative. What about these elements makes them important in a Western film?
In the film industry, costumes are an important element. Not only do the costumes
support the genre, but they also conduct character s representation. In the film The
Magnificent 7 , Yul Brynner, the man who creates the magnificent seven, is dressed
in all black. Whereas, every other character is either in white ... Show more content on

In the first film, which I mentioned above, special effects and editing had not been
strongly developed quite yet. You notice this during some points in the film.
Including, whenever a character was shot, there was no immediate effect. Typically
the character would grasp their chest, around the heart area, and fall forward onto
the ground, revealing the blood and injury from the bullet on their back. Whereas in
the second film, after Butch and Sundance were shot, there was immediate effect.
They both sat down in hiding, felt their injury and when they lifted their hands,
they were covered in blood. In the third film, when a man was shot, he was taken
back to a small town, and a veterinarian attempted at taking the bullet out of his
chest, you could clearly see the injury and the damage it had caused this man.
Editing and effects have evolved drastically. These days in films, once someone hits
the ground, whether it be from a gunshot, or some other type of hit, you instantly see
blood. Either pooling beside their heads or by their sides, or their hands dripping
with it. Editing and effects have become so realistic, that it has shaped popular culture
to the point of where, the effects can t be any less than what they are. If editing and
effects, were to be less, they would be criticised and not
Pros And Cons Of DRE Research
There are a great deal of reforms and frustration due to the DRE machines because
they are outdated and the government officials are not doing enough for the activist
voters. The people in numerous states have taken legal action to either improve

against states in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Arizona, New York, California, New
Mexico and Colorado. (Boyle,M. Davis E., Flanagan J., and Steigleder S. 2016) The
voters complaints are most likely because of the DRE method likelihood of failing to

process will change the election history. Because of the voting machines malfunction
and have security issues there has to be some kind of authority that can protect
these machines from fraud, hacking, and breakdowns. Consequently, the matter gets
worse in some states and local counties. In order to fulfill the people satisfaction,
the government need to do two duties. The first process that the State must do is
require all voting machines to produce a voter s confirmation which will be used
for auditing purposes to see if vote match with hand count records (National
Conference of State Legislature. 2016). The counties can only do little because it
needs the states approval and financial funding. The second process is the federal
and states cooperation of buying voting machines or update the system so that it can
produce paper records (National Conference of State Legislature. 2016). Many states
lack the ability to deliver the requirements unless the federal law enact
Barry Glassner The Culture Of Fear Analysis
Engrossed in fear, many Americans are living under the false perceptions
portrayed by the media. This tendency is due to the underestimated power the
media has in over society. With all the different forms of access the media has, it is
almost a second nature to accept what the media is portraying as true. Why is it
that, according to the Polly Klaas Foundation, although the majority of missing
children in our country are runaways , three out four parents fear that their children
will be kidnapped? Or that according to Skeptical Inquirer, not a single death or
injury has been reported from a stranger poisoning Halloween candy since 1958 ,
yet parents still fear for their children? Or according to if you add up all the

migraines, or other illnesses, you d find that the total number of Americans

nation of around 322 million. Scratch the surface of any pseudo fear and you ll

Analysis Of Frederick Douglass Narrative
Frederick Douglass Narrative serves as an influential text which provides detailed
examples of how slavery allowed a country and a government to justify the brutal
dehumanization and oppression of an entire race of people. Using personal
experience, Douglass explains how the slave institution not only dehumanized
himself, but also how the process affected other slaves and the slaveowners as well.
Douglass relies on a strong imagery relating back to animals to show this
dehumanization process, which the essay will be discussion and critically analysing
the effectiveness of using imagery to present his arguments. Douglass begins by
stating how dehumanization begins from birth. It is rare for a slave to know

In fact, Douglass discusses about when he was first offered a pair of trouser from
his mistress, and how he eagerly scrubbed away at the mange and dead skin on his
feet and knees for three days in hope of the precious reward. The fact that
something as simple as trouser was considered to be a high reward and luxury by
slaves shows a level of dehumanization, as clothes were a normal commodity for
white people. By using the word mange , it likens Douglass to a stray dog, who by
scrubbing away at his skin hopes to become suitable for a good home. Children
would also be fed mush , which was boiled, coarse corn meal, which they would eat
off the floor with whatever they could use. At night, children and adults alike
would be expected to sleep on the floor together, and Douglass laments how his
feet were cracked from exposure to frost during the night. Throughout his reflection
of his childhood, Douglass refers to how the children were regularly referred to as
pigs , and how their were forced to mimic the behaviour of pigs due to how they
were treat by their owners. The children are forced to fight in order to gain the most
food, or to have clothing, which instates a mindset of individuality early on in their
lives: only the toughest will survive. This individualistic mindset is dangerous, as it
further prevents slaves from forming bonds in fear that they will lose precious
resources, including favour with their master. By showing humanity,

Scotland. By the year 1888, the first league championship was on the move. The rapid
rise of organised football gave a start to the development of professionalism and
speculation in the sport. The popularity of the sport also influenced its spread outside
the country; therefore other European countries also started forming their football
associations. This ultimately led to the consistent development of international
football community (FIFA.com, 2016).
Opposite to the fact that England has been historically dominant in football, the
England national football team has won the World Cup only once in 1966. Also, in
terms of national football team, the United Kingdom is not represented as one team.
Instead, all the countries in the UK England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales
have their own football teams (Bloomsbury international.com, 2014).
Despite the failure of the national team of the home country of football, Britain has
generated one of the most dominated and the most unpredictable football leagues,
English Premier League, and many of the best football clubs not only in the entire
Europe but also in the world. The English Premier League (EPL), also called as
Darwin s Doubts
Dr. Stephen Meyer s Darwin s Doubts could possible disprove Charles Darwin s
theory of biological evolution. In fact, Meyer s ideologies emphasize a creationist s
perspective on materialism and a reassurance of the belief in an intelligent designer.
Critics are appealing to ridicule Meyer s inaccuracies of data on the Cambrian
explosion and the actual duration of the period in which fossils appeared. Critics also
question Meyer s misinterpretation of past and modern phylogenetic classification,
and correlations between older nomenclature of phyla within the Cambrian period.
Nevertheless, the debate between naturalism and materialism can presumably be
skewed, the fact remains on whether one is undoubtedly factual. But Meyer s takes a
different proposition on the skepticism of evolutionistic hating creationists, accepting
the fact that world is undoubtedly indifferent, but his mission is to combine both
religionand sciencetogether. In so doing, Meyer s exhibits philosophies consistent
with the idea of an intelligent designer, in which... Show more content on

Darwin was well acquainted with the research of the Cambrian Explosion, 540
million years ago within a ten million year timeframe that showed a rapid growth in
the number and complexity of biological forms. The sudden appearance of such
geologically diversity contrasted from Darwin s viewpoint of a steady evolution.
Considering the overall observation of the research, Darwin wanted to assure his
readers: If my theory be true, it is indisputable that before the lowest Silurian
[Cambrian] stratum was deposited, long periods elapsed, as long as, or probably far
longer than, the whole interval from the Silurian age to the present day; and that
during these vast, yet quite unknown, periods of time, the world swarmed with living
creatures. (Darwin

Compare And Contrast Afghanistan And United States
The three Countries I chose to talk about are, Afghanistan , China, And United States.
I chose these places because they are in different regions of the world, with different
development levels and population. Taking a look at the PRB I ve noticed some great
differences between these countries. Afghanistan has a high and stable birth rates, but
its still low in populationcompared to the other countries, this is due to a high
mortality rate of infants along with, 45% of its population under the age of 15 and
2% of the age of 65. I believe this to be a result of lack of resources and medicines of
this low developed country, putting it in the second stage of demographic transition.
On the other hand, China, a much more developed country is complete opposite.
This country has a low fertility and mortality rate, with a life expectancy rate of 75
for both sexes which is greater than the world s rate of 71.. With... Show more content

This is important because it reflects people living standards in each country. Showing
United States to be the most dominant financially. Poverty is one of the biggest
global issues in existence. Many people, mainly children suffer from disease due to
lack of medicine, proper heath facilities, food and poor living conditions, many even
being homeless. I believe it is one of the biggest issues that affects these numbers that
are being reported, the United States is a much more developed country than
Afghanistan, this is why there are such drastic differences between the two. China
also being a high developed country does not suffer much either, but the over
population growth has been affecting this country in more negative than positive
Southern Gothic Elements In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
Southern Gothic is a well known genre of literature that has been used around the
world for decades. It is very unique and has distinct characteristics that separate it
from other genres. Some of its elements include emphasis placed on hardships, flawed
and uncommon characters, supernatural or ironic events to guide the plot, and more.
Harper Lee, a world renowned author, wrote an impeccable story including several
Southern Gothiccharacteristics. The protagonist, Scout Finch, explains her daily
life in her hometown of Maycomb and discusses events that provoke disagreements
and prejudice. Her father, Atticus, is a wise man who teaches his children to
respect all people, no matter their race or background. As a lawyer, he becomes
involved in the case of a black man, Tom Robinson, who has been accused of rape.
This novel shines light on the prejudice and racist events in the 1930s that have been
mentioned in the book. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee utilizes elements of
the spectacular sub genre, such as deeply flawed or eccentric characters and
supernatural events, to explore social issues in the American South, like prejudice
and racism.
First, one of the main elements of Southern Gothic mentioned in the novel is
deeply flawed or eccentric characters. For example, one character that has many
flaws is Boo Radley. He is the neighborhood villain who is known to be very violent
and people do their best to steer clear of him. Scout recalls what Miss Stephanie
Symbolism In Rabbit Proof Fence
The 2002 controversial movie, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, aims
to enlighten the audience about the suffering of Indigenous Australians during The
Great Depression. Similar to this, the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set
in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a first person point of view to
explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with vastly
different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks,
dialogue and symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly
different views on the Indigenous people and White Australians.
Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig,
a half caste Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her
cousin and sister in order to find her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of
this movie is to highlight the negative effects of attempting to assimilate a race that
does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines wanted was to
live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to
have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the
audience. They are able to imagine their children in Molly s situation and realise that
stealing the Aborigine children from their mothers was not right. Molly is
characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl who does everything
she can to make it back

It took approximately 98 minutes for it to rotate the earth which meant it passed the

The launch of the Sputnik had such a big impact on America because America
thought of themselves as the world s technological leaders (Richerme 35). Also
the Soviets, after all, were not supposed to be good at technology (DeGroot 3).
This scared America and brought them into a big crisis or as some call a race. This
race was known as the space race and it was a very long and twisted path that it
bared on its shoulders. Now that after America and the Soviet Union where both
partaking in the space race they both had suspicions about each other. Eisenhower,
on the other hand, saw satellites as pointless unless they provided something useful
back on Earth (DeGroot 5). A spy satellite, on the other hand, could provide
accurate pictures of Soviet military capabilities, thus enabling the United States to
spend its defense budget wisely, without wasting huge sums on challenging
phantom forces (DeGroot 5). America was worried about the Soviets spying on
America because of security issues so America wanted to pursue on building
themselves a satellite to provide accurate pictures of Soviet military capabilities
(DeGroot 5). The only problem was that Flying over another nation s territory
without permission was, however, illegal under international law. What was not
clear was whether the law applied to satellites (DeGroot 5). America and the Soviets

Introducing The Monarchy By 1 Samuel
Introducing the Monarchy
Introduction
1 Samuel presents Israel transformation from theocracy to monarchy as theological
and sociopolitical. Knut Heim mentions, Such transformation could not take place
without stresses and conflicts. The book of Samuel in general, and chaps. 8 15 in
particular, reflect the tensions and ambiguities of these transitional time. The Israel
s request of a king is seen desperate and insistence to become like other nations, due
to internal and external crises. Of course, it was an evil thing to ask for because they
were the God s chosen people and God was their divine king. They are supposed to
be different than other nations. Nevertheless, God graciously gives them a king, Saul,
who eventually fails but God s eternal plan of kingship unfolds as he choses a king
for himself in David.
Although 1 Samuel narrates the transition from theocracy, the judge, Samuel to a
monarchial nation of Israel, the narrator reminds that Yahweh was already their
mighty king and who had also proven himself trustworthy and also quite capable of
calling out charismatic judges to lead the people in times of emergency after all he
is the God. The Israel nation was God s chosen people and under God s care and
divine kingship. In Samuel 7 we see obedience of Israel to God s appointed judge,
Samuel, that favored God s deliverance of Israel from the hands of Philistines. There
is no doubt Israel had not seen and experienced ultimate power of deliverance.

Analysis Of Don Quixote
Don Quixote
By Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is the tale of a Christian knight, don
Quixote, and his trustworthy squire, Sancho Panza, and their quests around Spain.
Thus, I travel about this wilderness and these unpopulated areas seeking adventures,
and I m committed to offering my arm and my person in any perilous adventure that
comes my way to help the weak and needy. (p. 97 98) Our story takes place in the
seventeenth century in La Mancha, south central Spain.
Miguel de Cervantes takes us on this epic adventure firstly by introducing don
Quixote and some of his deeds, and later on Sancho Panza, and the incredible
undertakings they faced for the sake of knight errantry. Our main character, don
Quixote, was an hidalgo of about fifty years old with a lanky figure and a passion for
romances of chivalry, which he believed to be true. His muse was Dulcinea del
Toboso.
Don Quixote decided to go out with his horse, Rocinante, to redress all the wrongs
and help those in need as the knights errant in those stories he cherished. He first
went to an inn, where the innkeeper dubbed him a knight. Don Quixote was found
hurt by a man of his village and taken back. Don Quixote s niece, the priest, and the
barber of his village blamed those books for his craziness so they burned them.
Don Quixote decided to start a second expedition now with the company of his
neighbor Sancho Panza as his squire, and promising Sancho that he would become
the governor of an insula. Sancho was by nature a coward and quite fainthearted, he
was illiterate but a ludicrous character. Their first adventure together was the
encounter with the windmills which don Quixote thought were giants, suffice it to
say he ended beaten on the ground.
Don Quixote now called himself the Woebegone Knight and Sancho was
reprimanded because of his absurd linking of proverbs. After many travails, they
arrived to Sierra Morena where don Quixote

Literary Analysis Of Once More To The Lake
Literary Analysis: Once More to the Lake and Forgetfulness The poem
Forgetfulness by Billy Collins and the passage Once More to the Lake by E.B
White, both use devices to develop a similar theme of time. The poem Forgetfulness
uses figurative language and describing words to develop a theme of forgetfulness,
while Once More to the Lake uses flashbacks and sensory details to develop a theme
of accepting aging. In the passageOnce More to the Lake , a man struggles with his
identity while at the lake with his son. The two passagesOnce more to the Lake and
Forgetfulness both use devices to develop the common theme that of, time is the
greatest enemy.
First and foremost, Once More to the Lake by E.B White develops the theme by
applying amazing flashbacks and outstanding sensory details. In the passage White
struggles with his identity and accepting reality which leads to a huge problem that
developed, man vs self. By returning to the lake with his son, White remembers all
the memories he had built in the years before when he went with his father, I guess
I remembered clearest of all the early mornings, when the lake was cool and motion
less, remembered how the bedroom smelled of the lumber it was made of and of the
wet woods whose scent entered through the screen (White page 1). The sensory detail
in that line helped the readers picture the surroundings and to show how much love
White has for the lake and the memories he created in the past. During the
Career Progression And The Career Development
The above quote by Confucius is often quoted, yet job happiness isn t as easily
achieved. One of the reasons behind job dissatisfaction is often the lack of planning.
But career progression and the ability find a job that doesn t feel like work requires
meticulous research and focus.
In this guide, we ll explain career progression and the reasons why it s so
important. We ll provide a four step plan to help you develop a plan that guarantees
you don t feel left behind when it comes to achieving your career goals.
What is career progression?
The concept of career progressing is closely tied to the idea of career development.
Career development is the lifelong process of managing your circumstances in order
to move forward to achieving your personal goals. It s the management of your
education, work and leisure activities in a way that helps you achieve the kind of
future you want.
As the definition of progress states, progress is a process developing gradually
towards a more advanced state . Career progression sees you working towards your
ultimate professional goals, little by little.
In essence, career progression determines and outlines the route you should follow
in order to reach the career development goals you ve set out for you. For example,
your dream career goal might be to own your own business. A career progression
plan will help identify the educational and work related steps you should take in
order to get closer to this goal and ultimately, to achieve
Why Is Forensic Biology Important In Criminal
Investigation
Forensic biology is very important to many criminal investigations by being able to
use scientific evidence in entomology, odontology, anthropology, DNA testing,
serology, toxicology, microbiology, and pathology. These different subfields are to
provide an unbiased result that can identify a suspect, a victim, eliminate a suspect,
exonerate the wrongly accused, corroborate a timeline of events, establish a time and
cause of death, or even identify a weapon. Forensic biology should be applied to the
discovery of bones, decomposing corpse, sexual assault, and unusual deaths. When an
unidentified set of remains are discovered with very little evidence surrounding the
mysterious death, forensic odontology may be able to use the teeth of the... Show

If a set of bones are discovered and determined to be over 100 years old I do not
think it would be worth the taxpayer s money to invest in the attempt to identify
someone who has been deceased over 100 years. This also includes not to invest in
facial reconstruction either. It is one thing to determine the age of the bones, but
DNA and other biologic studies should be used on more current investigations of
the dead and alive. I think that sometimes it really depends on the circumstances to
determine whether to performing expensive DNA, serological, odonatological,
anthropological, and even entomological examinations is worth the time of
analysts, materials, and equipment. Right now, we have a backlog of rape kits and
DNA evidence that waits to be tested, these are the priority since we have a better
chance solving a more recent case versus something over 100 years old. I think as
time goes on the processes for analyzing DNA, etc. will become more automated,
along with the cost of the supplies to do rape kits, DNA swabs, etc. With more
competition or manufacturers to push for their forensic biology products or
equipment, cost will no longer be an issue in the
Darwin s Theory Of Evolution
Darwin s theory of evolution states that by natural selection, organisms that possess
heritable traits that enable them to better adapt to their environment, compared with
other members of their species will be more likely to survive, reproduce, and pass
more of their genes on to the next generation . The grouping of organisms in the
classification table is not just the result of similarities, colours, ecological functions,
etc, it also covers and expresses information about our understanding of the
evolutionary history of these groups. Another part of Darwin s theory of evolution
that has an effect on the classification table is natural selection, which is the process
where organisms that better adapted to their environment tend to survive and
produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by
Charles Darwin, and it is now regarded as be the main process that brings about
evolution . Over time organisms have evolved to adapt, to their new or ever changing
environment, different predators and natural selection. An example of these adapting
animals are the great white sharkand the fern.
Two organisms that adapted over time are the great white shark and the fern. The
great white shark is a large fish, with a torpedo shaped body, 5 gills slits, an anal
fin, no fin spines, pointed snout, crescent shaped tails, and 3 main fins which are the
dorsal fin which is on the back of the shark and the two pectoral fins which are on
the shark s side. These

Important Battles of the Revolutionary War
The two most important battles in the Revolutionary war were the Battle of
Saratoga in the north and the Siege of Yorktown in the south. These two battles
were parts of the Revolutionary War, which was a civil war with two sides the
British Loyalists and the Patriots. These two battles are important because they were
major advances for the Patriot side of the war.
The Battle of Saratoga was fought on October 17, 1777 in Saratoga, New York. This
battle was known as the turning point in the war for the Patriots side and when the
French decided to get involved and team up with the Patriots. The Patriots won the
Battle of Saratoga when 5,895 British and Hessian (allies with the British) troops
with General Burgoyne leading them surrendered their weapons. Without this victory
the British would have been able to get reinforcements and continue their way
through the north with the divide and conquer plan and the Patriots would have not
gotten the support of the French troops which helped the war fold out the way it did.
Thus making the Battle of Saratoga one of the most important battles in the
Revolutionary War due to reinforcements from the French making this the turning
point in the war.

Investigating Hooke s Law And The Euler Bernoulli
Bending...
In this lab, deflection and strain are measured in an attempt to confirm Hooke s law
and the Euler Bernoulli bending beam theory. In addition, the measured data allows
us to calculate the modulus of elasticity (Young s Modulus) or E of the cantilever
beam. Through the course of the experiment our observations revealed that the
addition of weights deformed the beamin response to the applied stress. This
deformation can be modeled using the Euler Bernoulli beam bending theory. Our
experimentation and calculations revealed that our data did indeed prove the theories
mentioned in this lab. Furthermore, our values for the modulus of elasticityor E came
within the range of established values found online.
Engineering involves a wide array of problems that must be overcome. A great
deal of time is spent researching materials and their properties. Materials
compromise all aspects of our society, from buildings to roads to even the
equipment that was used in this lab. Problems arise in regards to how strong or
flexible the material is, with the official terms being stress, strain, and elasticity.
Improper use of such materials results in tragedies such as the Tacoma Narrows
Bridge in Washington that failed to due resonance and stress beyond its elastic limit
[1].
This lab teaches us the importance of stress, strain, and elasticity. Their relationships
are explored through the deformation of a cantilever beam. Stress is introduced as
weights and the beams experiences strain.

character should not have any heroic praise, and he finds ways of justifying the way
the Puritans beliefs. Lawrence uses methods of brief repetition, direct syntax, and
complacent tone to convey that Hester Prynneis guilty. D.H. Lawrence uses brief
repetition to represent that Hester is guilty of sin. Lawrence finds ways of writing
repetition in the attempt to get his point across without hesitation when he states,
Adulteress, Alpha, Abel, Adam, America (Lawrence). He is able to fully convey
that Hester is sinful with negatively connotated words that are organized in a
repetitive way. Relating Hester to Abel represents his dislike towards her as well
as shows her sin because it represents how low he views her. Abel was not an
innocent character, to say the least. Lawrence uses this comparison in a way that
flips their roles in a sense, and it draws a huge impact. Lawrence finds ways of
camouflaging the ways he uses repetition as well, Worship her there. The Woman, the
Magna Mater (Lawrence). By saying that she is a women and then writing that she is
just a fertility mother, he concludes her guilt as sinful for committing her actions and
The Global Of Natural Resource Curse And Transparency
It also has very high resource rents as a share of GDP, at 47%. However, resources
do not always automatically lead to poor outcomes. For instance, North America
produces more oil than Africa, but it has the lowest resource rents as a share of
GDP and has good governance ratings. Canada remains among the top ten world oil
producers, according to the US Department of Energy, but has one of the least
corrupt governments in the world, also according to the World Bank. Norway is
one of the top ten exporters of crude oil in the world, while maintaining its stature
as a perennial leader of the United Nations Human Development Index. In this way,
natural resource curse did not appear to be unavoidable. Global Approaches to
Resource Curse and Transparency The widespread of negative impact of natural
resource abundance lead the world to explore possible ways to tackle the problems
effectively and turn these resources into the welfare of countries. The new
conventional view is that the resource curse can be explained by equating good
outcomes from oil revenues with good governance and good institutions. *At the
center of the debate over the occurrence of the resource curse also lies the importance
of the role of institutions in promoting economic growth and maintaining high quality
governance. If institutions are not strong enough to oversee ownership, profit taking
and resolution of grievances, the rapid flow of resource rents can quickly overwhelm
the government s ability to exert
Jimmy Cross Character Analysis Essay
In this short story by Tim O Brien, Lieutenant Jimmy cross leads a platoon of men in
the Vietnam War. Unable to keep his thoughts from his unrequited love interested,
Martha, Cross allowed his platoon to become lax in their duties and mentally
removed from the war. The conflict arises when one of his men, Ted Lavender, is
killed on a mission. The conflict is resolved when LieutenantCross abandons his
youthful fantasy world for the reality of the war he is living in. Cross finds new
purpose in the vigilant leadership of his men. O Brien carefully listed and weighted
items, both physical and mental, that individual soldiers carried, which served as a
link in developing his character s personality traits. Henry Dobbins is a machine...

Norman Bowker, otherwise a very gentle person (9), carried a diary and a human
thumb that Mitchel Sanders gifted to him. The diary is representative of his gentle
or even compassionate nature. Whereas, the severed finger of the sixteen year old
boy represents his need to toughen up in the reality he was living in where innocent
looking sixteen year old kids carry rifles and ammunition. Rat Kiley is the medic and
carried comic books, brandy, and a medical supply satchel with morphine, plasma,
malaria tablets, surgical tape and M Ms. Kiley s youth is captured in his desire for
comic books and candy. Kiowa is an American Indian steeped in tradition. A devout
Baptist, Kiowa carried an illustrated New Testament from his father, a feathered
hunting hatchet from his grandfather, moccasins, and his grandmother s distrust of
white men. Lee Strunk s slingshot and tanning lotion are representative of an
outdoorsy, adventurous boy. This is further shown when he comes out of the dreaded
tunnel grinning (8). Finally, protagonist Jimmy Cross is the platoon leader and carried
a compass, maps, code books, binoculars, a .45 caliber pistol that weighs almost
three pounds, strobe light, two photographs of Martha, a good luck pebble, and the
responsibility for the lives of his men. Jimmy Cross is sentimental and his love for
Martha, whom he hoped was a virgin, represented Cross youthful innocence. The

I admitted a baby girl in the NICU weighing 1lb 7oz with esophageal atresia I also
met the parents the same day of admission to orient them to the unit, the equipment,
and to address any concerns regarding visiting time. This baby was in the unit for few
months I frequently cared for her and the family. On this Sunday morning, the mother
asked me Do you go to church I replied her with the name of the church also told her
I volunteer at church as an usher on my off Sundays. When parents confirmed that
they attend the same church we formed the bond between us. I asked the mother if
prayers from the church is fine with her familyshe replied absolutely. I provided the
mother with the pastor s contact number and asked for permission to inform the
pastor in person to start prayerfor the baby girl and the family.
This baby girl needed series of repair but feeding tube placement was the only
surgery done in the hospital that I work. Through extensive search there was no
hospital found in Florida capable of performing the baby girl s surgery than
Boston Children s Hospital. Plan to transfer the baby started and on this day of
transferred to Boston Hospital I was the nurse caring for this baby. I gave her a
bath and dressed her up with a pink colored outfit before the parents and the
transport team arrival. As the mother walked in the unit and saw the baby girl in the
outfit for the first time turned to me and said, thank you for all your care It was at

Laurent Clerc Research Paper
Born on December 26th, 1785 in the small village of La Balmes les Grottes,
France, (a village on the northeastern edge of Lyon) Laurent Clerc was born the
only child to the Clerc family. The name of his parents were Joseph Francois Clerc
and Marie Elizabeth Candy. Joseph was the Royal Civil Attorney and Justice of the
Peace and his mother, Marie, was the magistrate of another town. His father was
also mayor of their village from 1780 1814. Although, soon they d come to realize
their young boy wasn t your average infant. It is unclear whether Laurent was born
deaf or if it was caused from an accident he had as a child. This newfound family had
now begun with some altercations, but none these loving parents wouldn t overcome.
They kept Laurent safe and sound and as he grew, they would find ways to
communicate with him through home sign. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He was so dedicated that he was even assigned to the highest class. Later, he sailed
off with Thomas Gallaudet (a former student of his) to finalize a school for the
Deaf in America. They finally accomplished this when they created the School for
the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut. His incredible ability to teach and relate to the
students did not go unnoticed. Even today he is still known as a renowned master
teacher. His love for teaching made him stay in America longer than he desired. He
never did return to his family in France. Sadly, after a full life, Louis Laurent Marie
Clerc, passed away on July 18th, 1869 at the age of 83 years old. His wife and him
were buried at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut. Him and his wife
s gravestones were actually vandalized and damaged, but a man named, Alan
Barwiolek along with the Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund, made sure their headstones
were returned to their former glory and respect. I think it s safe to say that teaching
was his life force, he died 10 years after

The American Counterculture Movement
The American counterculture movement began with the assassination of U.S.
President John F. Kennedy, the termination of the United States combat involvement
in Southeast Asia, the end of the draft in 1973, and the resignation of President
Richard M. Nixon in 1974. Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was the main
organizational groups of the campus based radical movement known as the New Left
in the 1960s. The New Left was a term used to describe the left wing movements in
the 1960s and 1970s.
Students for a Democratic Society were the largest and most influential radical
student organization of the 1960s. At the beginning, there were just a few dozen
members, inspired by the civil rights movement and initially concerned with equality,
economic justice, peace, and participatory democracy. With the escalation of the
Vietnam War, SDS grew rapidly as young people protested the destruction wrought by
the United States government and military. Polite protest turned into stronger and
more determined resistance as rage and frustration increased all across the country.
We are people of this generation, bred in at least modest comfort, housed now in
universities, looking uncomfortably to the world we inherit, according to the
manifesto known as the Port Huron Statement. The Port Huron Statement was
created by 60 young Americans who traveled in June 1962 to a retreat at the base of
Lake Huron, Michigan, to hash out their beliefs about social change. All these years

Optimism Definition Essay. Optimism essay - writerstable.web.fc2.com

  • 1. Optimism Definition Essay Crafting an essay on the concept of optimism presents a unique set of challenges that may not be immediately apparent. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of information but in capturing the essence of optimism itself. The subject demands a delicate balance between defining optimism, exploring its various facets, and delving into its subjective nature. To start, one must grapple with the abstract nature of optimism. Unlike more concrete topics, optimism is a complex and multifaceted concept that can be interpreted differently by individuals. This inherent subjectivity makes it challenging to pin down a universally accepted definition. It requires a nuanced exploration that considers cultural, personal, and historical perspectives. Moreover, the challenge extends to striking the right tone. An essay on optimism should inspire positivity without oversimplifying the complexities of life. It's about walking the fine line between acknowledging the harsh realities of the world while embracing a hopeful outlook. Achieving this balance in language and style requires a thoughtful and measured approach. Another obstacle lies in the need for depth. Optimism is not a mere surface-level concept; it involves understanding the psychological, social, and even physiological aspects that contribute to a positive mindset. This necessitates thorough research and the integration of various disciplines, making the essay a challenging endeavor that goes beyond mere definition. Additionally, the writer must be attuned to the potential pitfalls of clichГ©s and platitudes. An essay on optimism risks becoming trite if it merely reiterates common sayings without offering fresh insights or perspectives. Striking a balance between familiarity and originality becomes crucial to keep the essay engaging and impactful. In conclusion, composing an essay on the definition of optimism requires navigating through the intricate web of subjectivity, maintaining a delicate balance in tone, delving into the complexity of the concept, and avoiding the pitfalls of clichГ©s. It is a task that demands both intellectual rigor and creative finesse. • 2. Fossil Fuel Vs. Fossil Fuels Opening Scientists say that the earth has existed for over 4.5 billion years (Sarfati, Jonathan). In fact, if we condensed the entire history of the earth into a 1 year period it would show that humans would only have existed in its final hour. Over these billions of years plant and animal remains have decayed from exposure to heat and pressure to form natural deposits of fossil fuels (Science Daily). There are 3 types of fossil fuels that we use today. Oil, coal, and natural gasmake up the majority of our energy source. These resources have been developing in the earth s crust for billions of years before humans came into existence. Without fossil fuels the world would not be where it is today. The purpose of this paper is to explain the fundamentals of each fossil fuel, the advantages and disadvantages of using fossil fuels as an energy source, and how they shape the world we live in today. Non Renewable Energy Fossil fuels are one of the hot topics of the modern world. Perhaps the biggest problem we face today is the shortage of fossil fuels, and the lack of new energy sources to replace them. Fossil fuels are considered non renewable. Oil, coal, and natural gas have revolutionized the world we live in. These fossil fuels have ignited an economic and social boom that has never been seen before. It has allowed industrialization to grow the population exponentially. In 1875, just before the first industrial revolution, the world s population was roughly 1.325 billion.
  • 3. My Love Of Art Question (Q): So just to get some basic information, where are you from? Kumi Yamashita (Kumi): I was born in a small town not that far outside of Tokyo. I moved to the United states when I was in high school as a foreign exchange student. Q: How did you discover that you loved art? Kumi: I don t really remember when art wasn t a part of my life in some way or form. Both of my parents were involved in very creative occupations. My mother made all of the clothes for my sister and I, as she had studied fashion for most of her life. My dad was particularly interested in traditional styles of Japanese crafts and drawings. He was an industrial design professor who spent his free time sculpting. My parents encouraged my sister and I to draw and express ourselves. I always loved drawing and I spent hours of my childhood with a pencil in my hand, in fact, my father named me kumi, which uses two chinese characters В the first character е·Ґ translates as to make or create and the second character зѕЋ translates as beauty . so maybe my dad jinxed me! (Butler) Q: How did you decide to take your love of art and transition it to becoming an artist ? Kumi: I don t think there was ever a specific moment in my life where I decided that I was going to be an artist. It just kind of happened. It sounds cheesy but I just do what I love every day, and I guess now I am an artist. Q: Your artwork isn t a typical painting or sculpture, in your words, how would you describe your pieces

Although it is true that there is tension among the military, there are several reasons that debunk all theories about justifying military desertion and treason. For thousands of years all branches of any nations or empires Army were extensively trained for combat and situations that may arise in that environment. To say a officer in the military would leave even under command not to because they are under stress, is a very poor reason to break the law and millitarys codes. • 5. Descriptive Essay On The Road It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited for the ride. We are about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are drooping because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. In the air I smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of us. I roll my window up to avoid the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign telling me that we are at the border of Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down the road. We hustled into the motel for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I am tired because I can t sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to fall into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel did not offer much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and headstraight towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with. Nebraska is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear. Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. This was because we were heading towards the mountains. The mountains were white on the top and what seemed like a very dark blue. Colorado was colder than the other states, and we did stuff like horseback riding in the mountains and ziplining. It

  • 7. Analysis of Randall Jarrell s The Death of the Ball... Many of the great poems we read today were written in times of great distress. One of these writers was Randall Jarrell. After being born on May 6, 1914, in Nashville Tennessee, Jarrell and his parents moved to Los Angeles where his dad worked as a photographer. When Mr. and Mrs. Jarrell divorced, Randall and his younger brother returned to Nashville to live with their mother. While in Nashville, Randall attended Hume Frogg high school. Randall showed his love for the arts while in high school by participating in dramatics and journalism. Jarrell continued his career in the arts when he wrote and edited for Vanderbilt s humor magazine, The Vanderbilt Masquerader. After earning his graduate degree at Vanderbilt, Jarrell accepted a ... In line number three the reader gets visual imagery as well as slight tactile imagery. The visual imagery comes when Jarrell says, Six miles from earth. The reader gets a clear image of something being very high above the ground. When the author says, loosed from the dream of life, the reader gets a slight feeling of death or a vision of someone dying. The fourth line, I woke to the black flak and the nightmare fighters, brings the reader visual, auditory and tactile imagery. The reader can picture someone waking up to shrapnel, from an exploding bomb, flying by their head. One can hear the gunfire of the, nightmare fighters, along with the exploding shells. The reader also gets a tactile image when the author says, I woke up, because everyone knows what it is like to wake up from a sleep. In the fifth and final line the reader gets a very graphic visual image. The reader can picture someone s body being so destroyed that instead of removing the body from the turret the soldiers must wash it out with a hose. Jarrell also used a great deal of figurative language in this poem. The entire poem is an extended metaphor. This poem compares the struggles of war with the struggles of being born. More specifically, it compares being killed the belly of a plane and being killed in the womb of a mother. We see

When I lived in Nepal, I went to school and studied Buddhism. There I learned about his life and the philosophies he kept in practices. Also, I learned that he was a great leader, and his great ideas such as the Four Noble Truths, Eightfold path, Nirvana, fundamental wisdoms, the theory of karma and rebirth, the five precepts and Wheel of Dharma has influenced many people. I learned about his great achievement and how he was able to create a whole new religion, Buddhism, which is now known as the fourth largest religion in the world, by influencing people through his unique practices and philosophy. From this experience, I learned firsthand that he is a great religious leader who left a legacy not just on Nepalese culture, but on the whole world. The founder of Buddhism was a man named Siddhartha Gautama. He was born in Nepal, just where I was. To be more specific he was born in an eminent garden of Lumbini which soon rehabilitated to a place of pilgrimage. Even then it wasn t sure that he was really born in Lumbini, it was a predication. Some Buddhist from last some century had interrogated about the Siddhartha Gautama birth story, but sighting them on confident ground when it rises to the later history of Lumbini (Irons). This was proven by the memorial pillars there, which was created by Indian emperor Ashoka. • 9. The Face-Negotiation Theory and Stella Ting-Toomey Essay In the world of communication, there are many theories which describe different ways people communicate. According to Doctor Thomas Hanitzsch, an associate professor of communication at the University of Munich in Germany, Communication Theory is an international forum publishing high quality, original research into the theoretical development of communicationfrom across a wide array of disciplines ( Communication Theory ). A specific communication theory that will be highlighted is the FaceNegotiation theory developed by Stella Ting Toomey. Simply stated, Dr. Ting Toomey suggests that conflict is a consequence of identity management on an individual and cultural level, and occurs when an individual or group s face is threatened.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some additional information includes, that according to Stella Ting Toomey s Home on the Web, Dr. Ting Toomey has held major leadership roles in international communication associations and has served on more than fifteen editorial boards ( Stella ). To further explain the theory of Face Negotiation, when Dr. Ting Toomey suggests conflict is a consequence of identity management on an individual and cultural level, she means that culture has a significant impact in regards to identity management. One s culture has defined rules as to how someone is to properly interact amongst other individuals and groups, and these rules include values, norms, beliefs and traditions. Generally, an individual would strive to adhere and follow all of their culture s rules, and in turn, would view another individual turning against those rules as a threat to their overall culture or beliefs. Similarly, Dr. Ting Toomey states that conflict can come from a clash of these rules, a misinterpretation, or as a result of misapplying certain expectations and standards for behavior for a given situation (Griffin List ). The Face Negotiation theory suggests there are three goals that any conflict will revolve around; content, relational and identity, or rather, needs, interests or goals. Based on M. Afzalur Rahim s work, Dr. Ting Toomey and later John Oetzel, identified eight distinct responses to conflicting situations based on an incompatibility (Griffin
  • 10. The Benefits of the Proposed California High Speed Rail California High Speed Rail High speed rail transportation has become an important issue in California that could potentially help our current transportation system and other environmental issues that need to be dealt with. This is an important issue to look into because currently our transportation system could be a lot more efficient using high speed rail instead of just the current car and air system that we have right now. Because of this there are a lot of potential benefits from the economic side of putting a high speed rail system in California from saving time, money, and fast efficient mobility throughout the state. These benefits also include a stimulus towards the state s economy in forms of employment and income growth due towards construction and implementation even if these aren t permanent jobs. Some environmental benefits of a high speed transportation is a decrease in pollution, using less nonrenewable resources such as oil, and decreasing the amount of other modes of transportation that currently need to be used. It is controversial though because of the cost of implementing such high speed transportation, versus the current transportation system that we already have. These increasing costs of implementing the have current plan for high speed rail have caused great concern because of costs such high possible costs needed to implement compared to its benefits. My problem that I have come up with is it cost effective and beneficial for the state of

These crisis have also triggered off a very fierce debate about the impact of the neoliberal era and the structure of the modern financial system. From the neoclassical perspective each of these crisis required a new model to explain past events but it always viewed the crisis to be cause by an external factor, a distortion to the market mechanism. As a result of these crisis a discourse, which does not accept the neoclassical assumptions about the economy has attracted more attention. When the market primacy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main gist of these free market reforms have been captured in the Washington Consensus ideas. The neoliberal era refers to a period during which these believes were widely upheld and respective reforms were introduced. In the developed countries it is most often Ronald Regan in the United States and Margaret Thatcher in the United Kingdom, who are presented as the main neoliberal agents. The international economic institutions (IMF, Worldbank and WTO), which conducted structural adjustment programmes are often seen as those that imposed these reforms on the developing world. The neoliberal set of policies is often connected to increasing financialisation of the world economy (Fine, 2009). Finance did not only become a greater part of GDP but above all it became more strategically important for economic development. Stock of global financial assets in years 1980 2007 has increased tenfold and constituted almost 4.5 times the multiple of world GDP (Palma, 2009). It has been suggested that while the activities of a financial system in the neoliberal era consume more of national income, they become detrimental to the real economy (Dymski, 2011). This is due to the transformation of the relationship created between the lender and the borrower in a neoliberal era, which will be explored in greater detail further. The term financial fragility refers to a situation where the economy is vulnerable to financial crisis. It suggests

How has it shaped popular culture? Film, regardless of the genre, consists of elements, in which makes it a film. In a western genre, you may look for elements such as costumes, effects/editing, and narrative. What about these elements makes them important in a Western film? In the film industry, costumes are an important element. Not only do the costumes support the genre, but they also conduct character s representation. You notice this during some points in the film. Including, whenever a character was shot, there was no immediate effect. Typically the character would grasp their chest, around the heart area, and fall forward onto the ground, revealing the blood and injury from the bullet on their back. Whereas in the second film, after Butch and Sundance were shot, there was immediate effect. They both sat down in hiding, felt their injury and when they lifted their hands, they were covered in blood. In the third film, when a man was shot, he was taken back to a small town, and a veterinarian attempted at taking the bullet out of his chest, you could clearly see the injury and the damage it had caused this man. Editing and effects have evolved drastically. These days in films, once someone hits the ground, whether it be from a gunshot, or some other type of hit, you instantly see blood. Either pooling beside their heads or by their sides, or their hands dripping with it. Editing and effects have become so realistic, that it has shaped popular culture to the point of where, the effects can t be any less than what they are. If editing and effects, were to be less, they would be criticised and not

This tendency is due to the underestimated power the media has in over society. With all the different forms of access the media has, it is almost a second nature to accept what the media is portraying as true. Why is it that, according to the Polly Klaas Foundation, although the majority of missing children in our country are runaways , three out four parents fear that their children will be kidnapped? Or that according to Skeptical Inquirer, not a single death or injury has been reported from a stranger poisoning Halloween candy since 1958 , yet parents still fear for their children? Or according to if you add up all the mentions in the press of the millions of Americans with heart disease, cancer, migraines, or other illnesses, you d find that the total number of Americans supposedly afflicted with a serious disease is 543 million a shocking number in a nation of around 322 million. Douglass relies on a strong imagery relating back to animals to show this dehumanization process, which the essay will be discussion and critically analysing the effectiveness of using imagery to present his arguments. In fact, Douglass discusses about when he was first offered a pair of trouser from his mistress, and how he eagerly scrubbed away at the mange and dead skin on his feet and knees for three days in hope of the precious reward. The fact that something as simple as trouser was considered to be a high reward and luxury by slaves shows a level of dehumanization, as clothes were a normal commodity for white people. By using the word mange , it likens Douglass to a stray dog, who by scrubbing away at his skin hopes to become suitable for a good home. Children would also be fed mush , which was boiled, coarse corn meal, which they would eat off the floor with whatever they could use. At night, children and adults alike would be expected to sleep on the floor together, and Douglass laments how his feet were cracked from exposure to frost during the night. Throughout his reflection of his childhood, Douglass refers to how the children were regularly referred to as pigs , and how their were forced to mimic the behaviour of pigs due to how they were treat by their owners. The children are forced to fight in order to gain the most food, or to have clothing, which instates a mindset of individuality early on in their lives: only the toughest will survive. This individualistic mindset is dangerous, as it further prevents slaves from forming bonds in fear that they will lose precious resources, including favour with their master. By showing humanity,

Similar to this, the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a first person point of view to explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with vastly different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks, dialogue and symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly different views on the Indigenous people and White Australians. Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig, a half caste Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her cousin and sister in order to find her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of this movie is to highlight the negative effects of attempting to assimilate a race that does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines wanted was to live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the audience. Analysis Of Don Quixote Don Quixote By Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is the tale of a Christian knight, don Quixote, and his trustworthy squire, Sancho Panza, and their quests around Spain. Thus, I travel about this wilderness and these unpopulated areas seeking adventures, and I m committed to offering my arm and my person in any perilous adventure that comes my way to help the weak and needy. (p. 97 98) Our story takes place in the seventeenth century in La Mancha, south central Spain. Miguel de Cervantes takes us on this epic adventure firstly by introducing don Quixote and some of his deeds, and later on Sancho Panza, and the incredible undertakings they faced for the sake of knight errantry. Our main character, don Quixote, was an hidalgo of about fifty years old with a lanky figure and a passion for romances of chivalry, which he believed to be true. His muse was Dulcinea del Toboso. Don Quixote decided to go out with his horse, Rocinante, to redress all the wrongs and help those in need as the knights errant in those stories he cherished. He first went to an inn, where the innkeeper dubbed him a knight. Don Quixote was found hurt by a man of his village and taken back. Don Quixote s niece, the priest, and the barber of his village blamed those books for his craziness so they burned them. Don Quixote decided to start a second expedition now with the company of his neighbor Sancho Panza as his squire, and promising Sancho that he would become the governor of an insula. Sancho was by nature a coward and quite fainthearted, he was illiterate but a ludicrous character. Their first adventure together was the encounter with the windmills which don Quixote thought were giants, suffice it to say he ended beaten on the ground. Don Quixote now called himself the Woebegone Knight and Sancho was reprimanded because of his absurd linking of proverbs. After many travails, they arrived to Sierra Morena where don Quixote

It is one thing to determine the age of the bones, but DNA and other biologic studies should be used on more current investigations of the dead and alive. Darwin s Theory Of Evolution Darwin s theory of evolution states that by natural selection, organisms that possess heritable traits that enable them to better adapt to their environment, compared with other members of their species will be more likely to survive, reproduce, and pass more of their genes on to the next generation . The grouping of organisms in the classification table is not just the result of similarities, colours, ecological functions, etc, it also covers and expresses information about our understanding of the evolutionary history of these groups. Another part of Darwin s theory of evolution that has an effect on the classification table is natural selection, which is the process where organisms that better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin, and it is now regarded as be the main process that brings about evolution . Over time organisms have evolved to adapt, to their new or ever changing environment, different predators and natural selection. An example of these adapting animals are the great white sharkand the fern. Two organisms that adapted over time are the great white shark and the fern. The great white shark is a large fish, with a torpedo shaped body, 5 gills slits, an anal fin, no fin spines, pointed snout, crescent shaped tails, and 3 main fins which are the dorsal fin which is on the back of the shark and the two pectoral fins which are on the shark s side. These two battles were parts of the Revolutionary War, which was a civil war with two sides the British Loyalists and the Patriots. These two battles are important because they were major advances for the Patriot side of the war. The Battle of Saratoga was fought on October 17, 1777 in Saratoga, New York. This battle was known as the turning point in the war for the Patriots side and when the French decided to get involved and team up with the Patriots. The Patriots won the Battle of Saratoga when 5,895 British and Hessian (allies with the British) troops with General Burgoyne leading them surrendered their weapons. Without this victory the British would have been able to get reinforcements and continue their way through the north with the divide and conquer plan and the Patriots would have not gotten the support of the French troops which helped the war fold out the way it did. In addition, the measured data allows us to calculate the modulus of elasticity (Young s Modulus) or E of the cantilever beam. Through the course of the experiment our observations revealed that the addition of weights deformed the beamin response to the applied stress. This deformation can be modeled using the Euler Bernoulli beam bending theory. Our experimentation and calculations revealed that our data did indeed prove the theories mentioned in this lab. Furthermore, our values for the modulus of elasticityor E came within the range of established values found online. Engineering involves a wide array of problems that must be overcome. A great deal of time is spent researching materials and their properties. Materials compromise all aspects of our society, from buildings to roads to even the equipment that was used in this lab. Problems arise in regards to how strong or flexible the material is, with the official terms being stress, strain, and elasticity. Improper use of such materials results in tragedies such as the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington that failed to due resonance and stress beyond its elastic limit [1]. This lab teaches us the importance of stress, strain, and elasticity. Their relationships are explored through the deformation of a cantilever beam. Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was the main organizational groups of the campus based radical movement known as the New Left in the 1960s. The New Left was a term used to describe the left wing movements in the 1960s and 1970s. Students for a Democratic Society were the largest and most influential radical student organization of the 1960s. At the beginning, there were just a few dozen members, inspired by the civil rights movement and initially concerned with equality, economic justice, peace, and participatory democracy. With the escalation of the Vietnam War, SDS grew rapidly as young people protested the destruction wrought by the United States government and military.
