A Life-Threatening Disease Causing Infants to Blister,...
A genetic disorder that affects an estimated 25,000 50,000 people in the United States and can be life
threatening. This disease causes blisters on the skin but also in the mouth, esophagus, lungs and
muscles. Though this disorder is not common it can be mild with little symptoms, disabling, where
there are a few problems that may occur or it can be life threatening. This disease is called
Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Epidermolysis Bullosa is a genetic disorder that causes the skin to blister even with the slightest force.
Epidermolysis Bullosa is found in three different types. Each are caused by different genetic
mutations. The most common form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex
(EBS). The less common types of EB ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lives can be cut short if internal organs start to blister. Also those who have EB are more likely to
have skin cancer than those without EB. Another way that life could be cut short is because EB can
cause sepsis which is when bacteria is spread all over the body via blood stream.
There are three main types of EB. Each is caused by a different mutation. The most common type of
EB is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). This variation is unlike the other two in the fact that it is
autosomal dominant. The gene that is mutated is called keratin 14 or KRT14 for short. This gene in
particular codes for keratins, a type of protein that forms skin, hair and nails. There are over 60
mutations that have been found in people living with EBS from this gene alone. Keratin 14 is located
on chromosome 17.
A second type of this disorder is called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB). This is an autosomal
recessive condition. Unlike EBS this variation of EB is more severe and causes more blistering and it
is easier to blister. Mutations caused on the collagen 17 gene which is located on chromosome 10
along with laminin 5 which is located on chromosome 20. Just as there are different variations of EB
there are two different forms of JEB. There are Herlitz and non Herlitz. Herlitz is more severe and
often can cause fingers and toes to fuse together. Herlitz JEB affects all the skin not just certain parts
such as the knees, feet, hands and

Sex Trafficking And Child Prostitution Summary
In regards to their essay on sex trafficking and child prostitution, Kristof and WuDunn note their
successful and failed efforts to help these women. Each time they interviewed a woman, they bought
her from the brothel owner and aimed to set her up for economic success outside of forced
prostitution. However, one girl quickly and willingly returned to the brothel due to her drug
dependence (where she obtained the addiction from being forced to take drugs in order oblige her
customers). Kristof and WuDunn indicated, that in order to effectively help women, advocates need to
focus on prevention, through education, empowerment to give women a voice, and putting brothels
out of business. Prajwala s model is effective for those already in the

How Did Mulholland Build The Aqueduct
During the 1900 s the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings were growing at a fast rate. As an
effect, the demand for basic needs developed day by day; more specifically, water demand. The just
appointed Los Angeles Bureau of Water Works and Supply, Fred Eaton suggested to build a new
aqueduct from Owens Valley to 250 miles south that could store water supply for at least two years.
His first step was to hire self taught engineer, William Mullholland, who seemed to had knowledge
about the un researched area where the aqueduct would be built. After analyzing different options,
Mulholland decided to build the dam in San Francisquito. However, Mulholland s lack of education
seemed to worry expert engineers. Therefore, a board named Aqueduct ... Show more content on

First, the geology where the dam was being built foreshadowed that slippage could happen. Second,
the concrete had not been reinforced with steel and it lacked contraction joints which helped the
expansion of concrete in high temperatures. Third, the dam did not have underneath tunnels or
passages that allowed the inspection of the dam to know if cracks or leaks were present. Lastly,
Mulholland made the decision to utilize concrete instead of clay cores due to the lack of clayey
materials. As a result of this material choice, the dam had to be re designed. Therefore, the dam was
built with a 175 feet high curved side with steps going down all the way to the bottom. As mentioned
before the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings was growing in increasing in population faster
than ever. To proportion this growth, Mulholland added 10 feet to the original height of the dam.
However, this adjustment was made without adjusting the width of the dam, resulting in a
disproportion. Nonetheless, Mulholland concluded the dam was still within the margins of safety.
After two years of construction the dam was completed in May

2 The outputs can be products, services, information and experiences. The transformation of inputs
into outputs can be physical conversion or alteration, transportation, storage or inspection when
dealing with goods. 3 For services, the change would be more at a personal or even psychological
level. From a value perspective, value is created when the value of the outputs is greater than the sum
total of the value of inputs. Asforthe word management , there has been long debate about its meaning.
For our purpose, we take the perspective of the functions that managers perform. The five traditional
functions that managers perform are planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of resources.
Combining these separate definitions into one, operations management can therefore be defined as the
planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of transformation of inputs to outputs. These
aspects can be represented in the form of a simple model as shown in Figure 1.1. b) Describe how

Necessary health care in America
Finding issues with in the American healthcare system is not a very difficult task. But figuring out
how these problems came about takes us on another road through the history of the American
healthcare system, and allows us to see how we got to our current system. A few things we will be
looking at what are some of the most disruptive problems in Americas system, hat other countries do
that make their health care system work well, and what are some of the things that we can do to help
make out health care system more available, and affordable to everyone. To start out our discussion on

I think that it would help break America s unbelievable inequality amongst our societies as well. The
overall coverage of the German health care system is very extensive and makes sure that their people
are taken care of. The next country we have to look at when thinking about great health care and
where to take notes from is, japan. Japan s health care system is very cheap and service is very fast,
but the down side to this is the hospitals are in financial deficit because the cost of everything is so
low. But with a little spike in cost will help prevent the closing and keeping the hospitals from going
broke. The health care system in America in my opinion has the potential to change for the better. The
affirmative care act is a good step forward. But it is not enough yet. If we can figure out a plan in
which we can incorporate a few ideas from other countries that are doing well in terms of their health
care. I believe that if we can adopt a few aspects from the German health care system, such as the rich
and healthy pay for the sick and poor, and the idea behind that if a person is to lose their job, they can
keep their health insurance. These ideas will make the affordable and availability of health insurance

How Did Georgia Formed

Have ever wondered how georgia was formed? Georgia was formed by James Edward Oglethorpe and
some trusted colonist he was assigned to go with. James Oglethorpe founded Georgia to give people
that owes debts to be given a chance to earn money after being released from jail. Oglethorpe ran for
parliament in after the Turkish war and won to be a member. He then decided to reform jails all over
London because his friend Robert had to share a jail with someone who had smallpox; Robert
contracted smallpox and then died. Oglethorpe need somewhere for the prisoners to go after they have

colonies, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. The reason the south did
more of plantation is because the geography and climate is just right for planting and harvesting.
Georgia has great geography because there are hilly plains, fertile soil, forest, along rivers, and
swamps. What the plantation owner does is sell crops to make a profit; a plantation owner harvests
tobacco, rice, sugar cane, and indigo are all called cash crops. Cash crops are worth a lot of money.
Plantation owner has little trouble transporting crops because there are many waterways and southern
colonies have docks which makes it easy to tie ships to the port. Harvesting crops and making lots of
money require lots of labor work, and that is why plantation owner had thousands of slaves. Since
there are no machinery, oxen and horses were a;so often used to plow fields. Slaves, all genders had to
work 18 hours nonstop a day; everyone had equal work proportions. Many generations of slaves were
born in small crude cabins they are required to live in. The second job i will type about is cobbler. A
cobbler is one of the earliest industries in the original 13 colonies. The shoemakers used to make one
shoe the the same side as the other shoe. A cobbler makes a wooden frame for the start of the shoe,
then tops the rest with leather. The third job i am going to type about is blacksmith. The word
blacksmith means a black smitter of iron. Only blacksmiths in bigger cities created railing for
balconies or gates. Lots of blacksmiths shops were small, dull, and barely lit. The main tools for the
jobs are forge, bellows, anvil

Witchcraft and Great Powers
In early modern Europe witchcraft was considered a crime due to people of this time period being
very superstitious. During this time period Witchcraft lead to the invention of such things as Devils
and monsters. The bubonic plague and crimes of Heresy lead to many deaths and therefore the
ideology that developed was it was the work of Witchcraft. It will be established during this essay the
reasons why the use and practice of Witchcraft was deemed to be a crime.
The most favourable belief during early modern Europe was that that women were more susceptible to
becoming Witches then a male would be. The main reason for this being that Eve was fell pray to the

Ginzburg states that many Jews acts of violence carried out against them until they handed them
selves in and reported that they were the ones who had started and spread the Bubonic plague. As a
result of this they were seen to confess to spreading this by using their powers to poison the water and
air. Jews were condemned in the same ways as witches and therefore were burnt at the stake; this was
seen to be the most favoured punishment for crimes of witchery.
During this time period of early modern Europe many religious and scholarly men had combined the
effects of the plague with witchcraft. This said to have occurred because witches had used there
powers to poison people through the water and air and they would state that once people are infected
by these spells that they would die within three to four days.
Due to many Jews and women being of lower class in this time period it was also a belief that because
they were unclean they helped spread the plague rapidly. Due to many women of this time during such
jobs and Midwives and developing herb to heal their family this gave way to women being labeled
witches. This view was prevalent throughout Scotland and as a result many were tried and convicted
of witchcraft.Between 1550 to early 1700 s witch hunts I Scotland developed the theory that witches
were nearly always female and that as a result these attacks were not against the female gender as
such. They

Mike Tidwell wrote this novel with the purpose of informing the readers about the wonderful, often
overlooked location that is the Bayou. He wants the public to know that this region is a treasure and
holds many unique qualities that so many places in the United States are missing today. Through his
journeys he came to love the land and the water. He learned a great deal about shrimping and
crabbing, and the way of life on the Cajun coast. While he wrote this book to inform people about the
region, he also wrote it to persuade readers to care. He wants people to realize that this territory is
becoming extinct. There are many reasons why much of the marshlands are turning to open waters,
and he wants to make sure that the readers become curious about them. He wants to pass on his love
of the land to those who read about his experiences. He most likely hopes that people will read this
book and consider what they can do to help out the cause. Most of the author s statements are based on
experiences. The majority of the book is about the experiences that the author has during his travels

Gene s Development in John Knowles A Separate Peace Essay
Gene s Development in John Knowles A Separate Peace
Throughout life, there is always a person who one strives to beat, be better than or rise above. Little
does each of them know that in the end the two actually make each other stronger. In John Knowles
novel, A Separate Peace (1959), he addresses just this. The novel, told from Gene Forrester s point of
view, is based on a friendship and rivalry between him and his friend, Finny, during World War II. The
two sixteen year olds attend Devon School, a private all boys school, in New Hampshire. Finny, a very

Little sorrow and sadness is expressed around school, even in Gene; no one talks about what happened
but everyone remembers, especially Gene. Throughout the novel, John Knowles strong
characterization of Finny results in a more developed and wiser Gene; in the end, Finny actually
makes Gene a better person.
One instance where Knowles uses characterization in order to achieve his purpose is when Gene
develops the feeling that Finny is trying to sabotage his chance of being head of the class,
valedictorian (41). Gene thinks since Finny is the best at sports, he also desires the need to be the best
scholastically, although he is a very poor student (44). This is Gene s explanation for assuming that
Finny deliberately set out to wreck my [Gene s] studies (43). Gene, enraged by Finny s actions,
figures the motive behind Finny trying to keep him so busy is to throw him off track with his
schoolwork. Although this incident caused much jealousy and rivalry in Gene, it actually benefited
him tremendously. Gene reveals, I became quite a student after that. . . . Now I became not just good
but exceptional (44).
Finny s strong and solid character is again evident the night of the tree jumping in which he fell and
broke his leg. Prior to the occurrence, Gene explodes when Finny automatically assumes Gene will be
present at the Suicide Society tree leap (46). Finny s thinking that studies can just be abandoned at
anytime infuriates Gene. Once Gene

Magical Realism In The NoseAndDon Ysidro
Magical realism, is a form of literary genre that takes the reader on a journey somewhere between the
mundane of ordinary everyday life, to the supernatural world of uncertainty where things are accepted
without question or reason. A gap exists between two world s the ordinary and the extra ordinary
which can be examined in two stories of this genre, The Nose by Nikolai Gogol, and Don Ysidro by
Bruce Holland Rogers. While both have similarities in tone consistent with this genre, such as being
serious and realistic, the stories do have differences in the specific tone of the dialogue the authors use
to describe characters and parts of the story. A comparison and contrast of the above two stories will
reveal both the similarities and differences between stories as they relate to the genre of magical
realism.
Traditional magical realist stories have many similarities that exist to place them in this particular
genre of literature. A tone that is both serious and realistic exists, and connects these two stories in this
genre. Real world settings with real world experiences, where no new worlds are invented or created,
leads the reader to believe what they are reading and adds to a seriousness and realistic view of the
story. Normality is disrupted, just as all seems real, with the injection of a fantastical event as seen in
both stories. In The Nose, a Russian Barber, Ivan Jakovlevitch, of St. Petersburg wakes to a morning
of fresh bread made by his wife, only to

Antigovernment Statements through Painting
While Van Gogh shut himself off from the world first, in rural Provence, and second, in an asylum in
Saint Remy, other artists have used their celebrity to draw attention to contemporary political events,
and to speak out against, and challenge the establishment. As mentioned above, Warhol had made art
from newspaper headlines, thus drawing attention to contemporary politics on race in America.
However, among the best known of such anti governmental statements is Picasso s painting Guernica,
which represents a passionate attack on Spain s fascist government by the Spanish artist living in
Paris. It portrays a scene of the German bombing, in 1937, of Guernica, the Basque capital of
Northern Spain, during the Spanish civil war, and became a universal symbol of the atrocity of war.
The scene is set within a room where, at an open end on the left, a bull flails its tail as it stands over a
woman grieving over the dead child in her arms. The subjects in this painting are shown as innocent
and helpless. The centre is occupied by a horse, which falls in agony as it had just been run through by
a spear or javelin. The large gaping wound in its side is a major focus of the painting, reinforced by
the human skull which overlays the horse s body. On the open palm of the dead soldier in the
foreground is a stigmata, a symbol of martyrdom derived from a stigmata of Christ. A light bulb blazes
in the shape of an evil eye over the suffering horse s head, reminiscent of the bare bulb

Different Characters In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying the story is told from different characters creating many
different perspectives. All though every character has a voice, they are not all created to intelligent and
sympathetic voices. Faulkner controls which characters we closely identify with by the amount of time
he devoted to the characters, the number of entries the person had and the attitude that is given to
these characters. The first deciding factor in which characters the reader would closely identify with is
how much time Faulkner devoted to each character. Some characters in the book were meant to talk
more and we were supposed to get more information from them compared to others. Darl is a good
example of this because his chapters are thoroughly developed with complex sentences and better
thought out ideas. Because of the voice that Faulkner gave Darl, we easily connect to him and have a
better sense of who he is as a character. Not only is Darl one of the better educated children, he is also
an omniscient narrator which enables the reader hear a different perspective of the same event but
from a character who isn t directly experiencing that event. The opposite of Darl is Dewey Dell.
Dewey Dell is not educated and does not have strong sentence structure in her chapters which is how
Faulkner controlled how easily we connect to her. If he wanted us to connect with her more, he would
have given her phrases that were easier to understand and a higher education that would

them. As such England controlled development, religion and the government, just to mention a few.
However, as the colonies developed, they began to covet their individual independence, and this was
seen as a threat by English rulers. The most significant change that these American colonies had to

background, this paper evaluates the length to which it would be accurate to state that the New

before the outbreak of the revolution.
Granting that some colonies still retained established churches by 1763, other colonies had realized a
practical revolution for a religious liberality and a distinction of the church from the state. It is
observed that during the mid 1600 the dominant religion in England was a Christianity. However, the
colonies were predominantly Puritans. Accordingly, the Puritan church in New England was largely
separated from the state, except it taxed residents to collect money to support the church. Thus,

Hartley begins The Go Between: with The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.
This book is memory like in The Glass Menagerie; it is a look through the dusty memory of a sixty
years old man. Another key theme is class distinction and its warping effects upon the life of one small
boy. He s from a disadvantaged family and is invited in an aristocratic family. The father and the
fiancé are aware of the girl s affair with the farmer, but do nothing about it. They are confident she
will do the right thing in the end, and she does. Why don t you marry Ted, the boy asks the young
woman. Because I can t, she replies. Then why are you marrying Trimmington? Because I must. She
understands, and she is tough enough to endure. Indeed, at the end of the film she turns up years later
as an old lady very much in the image of her mother. An extra theme is man woman relationships and
love. Marian and Ted are in love with each other and have an ardent affair together. Lord
Trimmingham probably loved her too because he married her although she was pregnant and Leo felt
in love with her as soon as he saw her. The diary is a symbol of the past and of the doom that chose

The Banquet Scene In The Iliad
The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and the
like. However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic qualities.
The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most human scene in the entire poem . In
the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment between two men
who ironically have much in common below the surface.
Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy s greatest warrior late at night. He
bears what little treasures have not been exhausted by the ten year conflict and plans to plead for the
rightful return of his son s body. This is his final heroic endeavor. And ... Show more content on

Recall in Book III his kindliness towards Helen. This perception of Achilles as a vision of Hektor is
also a reaction to Achilles his newly developed warmth and tenderness. And in fact, not overlooking
what Achilles has done, Priam cannot deny that he is a great strong warrior and has brought much
glory to the side of the Achaians.
By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a zone
of peace.
. There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is uncompromisingly
tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and Achilles will soon be killed.
Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives.
Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens
our sense of what it means to be human
NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father
(Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last book, a
father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown. Though this
symmetry is surely there, Homer is an artist who permits complexities and contradictions. As you
begin to sum up your feelings about the Iliad, test all the threads. The question is not simply is
Achilles right or wrong, or are the Trojans or Argives the real heroes. Homer values both

An Indian Crisis
An Indian Crisis Homo sapien sapiens are a breed unlike any other. These beings create complex

dinosaurs which came before them, humans have survived for over two hundred thousand years

communication and tools which elevated them to the top of the food chain. The only predator to the

Humans massacred fellow humans. In an effort to prevent a crime on such a scale ever again a group

set forth in this document attempt to protect all human beings. This declaration has provided a basis
for what is ethical treatment of humans. All humans use these rights to determine if a person or group
of persons is being mistreated. Among the first, and most basic, rights is the right to life, in which all
people are given the right to live and not have the opportunity seized from them ( Universal
Declaration of Human Rights 11). Despite this being a normality in our culture, in India females are
being killed solely based on their gender.
In India it is a societal normality to routinely kill newborn daughters by drowning them, suffocating
them, or neglecting to feed them (It s a Girl). One mother states in an interview that she has killed
eight daughters in this manner (It s a Girl). Despite being more apt to survive in an environment when
given equal resources as a male child, the female survival rate is rapidly declining in India (Srinivasan

Importance Of Absolute Monarchy
Absolute Monarchy In all age rulers always wanted to be absolute monarchs, not only the kings but
also the queens. Their goal was to control every aspect of society. Throughout the 16th and 17th
Century the rise of many absolute monarchies become a common phenomenon in many European
countries. The power controlling under one people s hand makes economic development rapid, allows
for long term goals to be planned and met and allows for quicker decisions to be made. Among all the
leaders, Peter the Great, Maria Theresa, and Louis XIV can regard as the main representative.
Admittedly, none of the countries will last long without a long term plan of development. However,
absolute monarchy is the best way to achieve this goal. If the countries are under several parts of
forces or a fatuous and self indulgent ruler, it will be hard to take everyone s idea into consideration.
And finally, the country will move towards died. Nevertheless, if the country is an intelligent and
powerful king s country, the country will become flourish and develop rapidly. Peter the Great s
example can be raised here. He has been known as the great Russia reformer in the history. During
that period of time, when all the other European country expanding their region and enlarging their

United States Government Policy Analysis
The role of the United States government has increased to detrimental levels over the last century. Our
nation is currently over 18 trillion dollars in debt and this number continues to grow everyday. Social
programs are leading our nation s people under a constraining weight of debt and forced dependency
on the government. Our government needs to refocus on serving the people instead of enslaving them.
Adam Smith, an eighteenth century Scottish moral philosopher said the ideal functions of the
government are few and well defined. (Lipford, Slice, 2007) Smith named three important functions,
national defense, administration of justice, and the provision of public goods. One of the largest
reasons our country is in so much debt is from government expansion to include many socialistic

encompasses the views of other scholars on the same subject. For instance scholars like Gorsuch
(1988) saw religion as an important variable in people s lives and yet Marx and Durkheim view
religion absolutely in an unexpected way, nevertheless both of them concur that religion is a vital part
of a general public. Amid his profession, Marx talked little on the subject of religion. Notwithstanding,
what is inadequate in volume is compensated for in power and exhaustiveness. As stated by Bell

Native American Colonialism In Rez Life
For over 200 years every treaty, negotiation, and promise to the Native Americans by the American
government has been violated. Native Americans have faced oppression, starvation, cultural
backlashing, and were pushed to the very edge of extinction at the hands of colonial settlers. The
indigenous culture was viewed as recessive and primitive. Americans considered themselves as the
superior race and forcefully assimilated the indigenous people. American society almost succeeded in
eradicating indigenous culture through assimilation and genocide, but indigenous people are an
extremely proud and resilient people. Despite settler s society s effort to decimate the indigenous
nations they have survived and are fighting to preserve their culture. European ideology and influence
runs ramped and infringes on almost every aspect of daily life. Regardless of the infringement of
settler society, indigenous people have battled to create and preserve an autonomous culture. Society
has very powerful and arrogant forces. We now live in an era of post modern colonial manipulation;
where power created by settler colonialism is being used to erase Indigenous identities and presences.

Break Of Day In The Trenches By Isaac Rosenberg
Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets, Isaac Rosenberg.
Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a poet of war, but there is more to his
writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1,
1918. Critics often say that Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the
poetry world. It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of
symbolism and feeling into his pieces.
A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and struggle in war. For
example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man s Dump, On Receiving News of the
War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a
soldier facing battle. It is easy for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a
soldier may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man going through
such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw, feel what he felt, and undergo
what he went through. He mastered this art form in the early years of his life and shared his work with
the world. In many cases, he describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the
work. Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac approaches
more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in Break of Day in the
Trenches,
The darkness crumbles away.
It is the same old druid Time as ever,
Only a live thing leaps my hand,
A queer sardonic rat,
As I pull the parapet s poppy
To stick behind my ear.
Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew Your cosmopolitan sympathies. (Rosenberg, Isaac. Break
of Day in the Trenches. Poetry Foundation. Poetry Foundation, n.d. Web. 24 May 2017.) The
introduction portion of this poem foreshadows a theme for the reader such that Rosenberg does not
use an ABC format, instead he employs a descriptive structure technique. In this particular poem the
rat that will cross No Man s Land and make friends with the enemy, the Germans. According to

  • 2. A Life-Threatening Disease Causing Infants to Blister,... A genetic disorder that affects an estimated 25,000 50,000 people in the United States and can be life threatening. This disease causes blisters on the skin but also in the mouth, esophagus, lungs and muscles. Though this disorder is not common it can be mild with little symptoms, disabling, where there are a few problems that may occur or it can be life threatening. This disease is called Epidermolysis Bullosa. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a genetic disorder that causes the skin to blister even with the slightest force. Epidermolysis Bullosa is found in three different types. Each are caused by different genetic mutations. The most common form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). The less common types of EB ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lives can be cut short if internal organs start to blister. Also those who have EB are more likely to have skin cancer than those without EB. Another way that life could be cut short is because EB can cause sepsis which is when bacteria is spread all over the body via blood stream. There are three main types of EB. Each is caused by a different mutation. The most common type of EB is Epidermolysis Bullosa simplex (EBS). This variation is unlike the other two in the fact that it is autosomal dominant. The gene that is mutated is called keratin 14 or KRT14 for short. This gene in particular codes for keratins, a type of protein that forms skin, hair and nails. There are over 60 mutations that have been found in people living with EBS from this gene alone. Keratin 14 is located on chromosome 17. A second type of this disorder is called Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB). This is an autosomal recessive condition. Unlike EBS this variation of EB is more severe and causes more blistering and it is easier to blister. Mutations caused on the collagen 17 gene which is located on chromosome 10 along with laminin 5 which is located on chromosome 20. Just as there are different variations of EB there are two different forms of JEB. There are Herlitz and non Herlitz. Herlitz is more severe and often can cause fingers and toes to fuse together. Herlitz JEB affects all the skin not just certain parts such as the knees, feet, hands and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sex Trafficking And Child Prostitution Summary In regards to their essay on sex trafficking and child prostitution, Kristof and WuDunn note their successful and failed efforts to help these women. Each time they interviewed a woman, they bought her from the brothel owner and aimed to set her up for economic success outside of forced prostitution. • 4. How Did Mulholland Build The Aqueduct During the 1900 s the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings were growing at a fast rate. As an effect, the demand for basic needs developed day by day; more specifically, water demand. The just appointed Los Angeles Bureau of Water Works and Supply, Fred Eaton suggested to build a new aqueduct from Owens Valley to 250 miles south that could store water supply for at least two years. His first step was to hire self taught engineer, William Mullholland, who seemed to had knowledge about the un researched area where the aqueduct would be built. After analyzing different options, Mulholland decided to build the dam in San Francisquito. However, Mulholland s lack of education seemed to worry expert engineers. Therefore, a board named Aqueduct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the geology where the dam was being built foreshadowed that slippage could happen. Second, the concrete had not been reinforced with steel and it lacked contraction joints which helped the expansion of concrete in high temperatures. Third, the dam did not have underneath tunnels or passages that allowed the inspection of the dam to know if cracks or leaks were present. Lastly, Mulholland made the decision to utilize concrete instead of clay cores due to the lack of clayey materials. As a result of this material choice, the dam had to be re designed. Therefore, the dam was built with a 175 feet high curved side with steps going down all the way to the bottom. As mentioned before the city of Los Angeles and its surroundings was growing in increasing in population faster than ever. To proportion this growth, Mulholland added 10 feet to the original height of the dam. However, this adjustment was made without adjusting the width of the dam, resulting in a disproportion. Nonetheless, Mulholland concluded the dam was still within the margins of safety. After two years of construction the dam was completed in May ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The transformation of inputs into outputs can be physical conversion or alteration, transportation, storage or inspection when dealing with goods. 3 For services, the change would be more at a personal or even psychological level. From a value perspective, value is created when the value of the outputs is greater than the sum total of the value of inputs. Asforthe word management , there has been long debate about its meaning. For our purpose, we take the perspective of the functions that managers perform. The five traditional functions that managers perform are planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of resources. Combining these separate definitions into one, operations management can therefore be defined as the planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of transformation of inputs to outputs. These aspects can be represented in the form of a simple model as shown in Figure 1.1. b) Describe how focus dimensions affect the selection of a process structure and develop advantages and disadvantages for using each process structure in a specific situation. c) Project; In this arrangement, the product remains in a fixed location and ... Japan s health care system is very cheap and service is very fast, but the down side to this is the hospitals are in financial deficit because the cost of everything is so low. But with a little spike in cost will help prevent the closing and keeping the hospitals from going broke. The health care system in America in my opinion has the potential to change for the better. The affirmative care act is a good step forward. But it is not enough yet. If we can figure out a plan in which we can incorporate a few ideas from other countries that are doing well in terms of their health care. I believe that if we can adopt a few aspects from the German health care system, such as the rich and healthy pay for the sick and poor, and the idea behind that if a person is to lose their job, they can keep their health insurance. • 14. Magical Realism In The NoseAndDon Ysidro Magical realism, is a form of literary genre that takes the reader on a journey somewhere between the mundane of ordinary everyday life, to the supernatural world of uncertainty where things are accepted without question or reason. A gap exists between two world s the ordinary and the extra ordinary which can be examined in two stories of this genre, The Nose by Nikolai Gogol, and Don Ysidro by Bruce Holland Rogers. While both have similarities in tone consistent with this genre, such as being serious and realistic, the stories do have differences in the specific tone of the dialogue the authors use to describe characters and parts of the story. A comparison and contrast of the above two stories will reveal both the similarities and differences between stories as they relate to the genre of magical realism. Traditional magical realist stories have many similarities that exist to place them in this particular genre of literature. A tone that is both serious and realistic exists, and connects these two stories in this genre. Real world settings with real world experiences, where no new worlds are invented or created, leads the reader to believe what they are reading and adds to a seriousness and realistic view of the story. Antigovernment Statements through Painting While Van Gogh shut himself off from the world first, in rural Provence, and second, in an asylum in Saint Remy, other artists have used their celebrity to draw attention to contemporary political events, and to speak out against, and challenge the establishment. As mentioned above, Warhol had made art from newspaper headlines, thus drawing attention to contemporary politics on race in America. However, among the best known of such anti governmental statements is Picasso s painting Guernica, which represents a passionate attack on Spain s fascist government by the Spanish artist living in Paris. It portrays a scene of the German bombing, in 1937, of Guernica, the Basque capital of Northern Spain, during the Spanish civil war, and became a universal symbol of the atrocity of war. The scene is set within a room where, at an open end on the left, a bull flails its tail as it stands over a woman grieving over the dead child in her arms. The subjects in this painting are shown as innocent and helpless. The centre is occupied by a horse, which falls in agony as it had just been run through by a spear or javelin. The large gaping wound in its side is a major focus of the painting, reinforced by the human skull which overlays the horse s body. All though every character has a voice, they are not all created to intelligent and sympathetic voices. Faulkner controls which characters we closely identify with by the amount of time he devoted to the characters, the number of entries the person had and the attitude that is given to these characters. The first deciding factor in which characters the reader would closely identify with is how much time Faulkner devoted to each character. Some characters in the book were meant to talk more and we were supposed to get more information from them compared to others. Darl is a good example of this because his chapters are thoroughly developed with complex sentences and better thought out ideas. Because of the voice that Faulkner gave Darl, we easily connect to him and have a better sense of who he is as a character. Not only is Darl one of the better educated children, he is also an omniscient narrator which enables the reader hear a different perspective of the same event but from a character who isn t directly experiencing that event. The opposite of Darl is Dewey Dell. Dewey Dell is not educated and does not have strong sentence structure in her chapters which is how Faulkner controlled how easily we connect to her. As such England controlled development, religion and the government, just to mention a few. However, as the colonies developed, they began to covet their individual independence, and this was seen as a threat by English rulers. The most significant change that these American colonies had to confront was to create a society that was unique and different from that in England. Upon this background, this paper evaluates the length to which it would be accurate to state that the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies had come together to form a single American society way before the outbreak of the revolution. Granting that some colonies still retained established churches by 1763, other colonies had realized a practical revolution for a religious liberality and a distinction of the church from the state. By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a zone of peace. . There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. Although they lack the scaly defenses of reptiles and the sheer size of the dinosaurs which came before them, humans have survived for over two hundred thousand years (Howell 1). The reason they were able to survive stems largely from their evolved forms of communication and tools which elevated them to the top of the food chain. In an effort to prevent a crime on such a scale ever again a group known as the United Nations created a document, Universal Declaration of Human Rights . All humans use these rights to determine if a person or group of persons is being mistreated. Among the first, and most basic, rights is the right to life, in which all people are given the right to live and not have the opportunity seized from them ( Universal Declaration of Human Rights 11). Despite this being a normality in our culture, in India females are being killed solely based on their gender. In India it is a societal normality to routinely kill newborn daughters by drowning them, suffocating them, or neglecting to feed them (It s a Girl). One mother states in an interview that she has killed eight daughters in this manner (It s a Girl). Despite being more apt to survive in an environment when given equal resources as a male child, the female survival rate is rapidly declining in India (Srinivasan 5). The reason for this mass gendercide lies in the bases of Indian culture, specifically the Hindu faith (Female Infanticide 46 47). Women are not expected, or often times allowed, to work in ... Our nation is currently over 18 trillion dollars in debt and this number continues to grow everyday. Social programs are leading our nation s people under a constraining weight of debt and forced dependency on the government. Our government needs to refocus on serving the people instead of enslaving them. Adam Smith, an eighteenth century Scottish moral philosopher said the ideal functions of the government are few and well defined. (Lipford, Slice, 2007) Smith named three important functions, national defense, administration of justice, and the provision of public goods. One of the largest reasons our country is in so much debt is from government expansion to include many socialistic programs. Many of these programs were started by President Franklin D. Native Americans have faced oppression, starvation, cultural backlashing, and were pushed to the very edge of extinction at the hands of colonial settlers. • 37. Break Of Day In The Trenches By Isaac Rosenberg Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets, Isaac Rosenberg. Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a poet of war, but there is more to his writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1, 1918. Critics often say that Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the poetry world. It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of symbolism and feeling into his pieces. A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and struggle in war. For example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man s Dump, On Receiving News of the War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a soldier facing battle. It is easy for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a soldier may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man going through such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw, feel what he felt, and undergo what he went through. He mastered this art form in the early years of his life and shared his work with the world. In many cases, he describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the work. Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac approaches more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in Break of Day in the Trenches, The darkness crumbles away. It is the same old druid Time as ever, Only a live thing leaps my hand, A queer sardonic rat, As I pull the parapet s poppy To stick behind my ear. Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew Your cosmopolitan sympathies. (Rosenberg, Isaac. Break of Day in the Trenches. Poetry Foundation. Poetry Foundation, n.d. Web. 24 May 2017.) The introduction portion of this poem foreshadows a theme for the reader such that Rosenberg does not use an ABC format, instead he employs a descriptive structure technique. In this particular poem the rat that will cross No Man s Land and make friends with the enemy, the Germans. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
