Importance Of Reading And Writing
Reading and writing is very essential in one s lifetime. People always say they don t like reading and
they don t like writing because it s boring and they have no interest, but little do they know they do it
way more than they think. Everyday you re reading and writing, it might not be reading from a book
or writing an essay but you re doing it. Most of you re reading comes from you reading texts
messages, reading comments and captions on social media, reading road signs, etc. Most of your
writing comes from typing those text messages and comments and captions. Without reading and
writing you will basically have the same mental capacity of a rock. You wouldn t be able to get out the
right pronunciation of words correctly and be able to understand thigs people are trying to tell you or
write out to you. Other than oxygen and water reading and writing is the most essential part of a
human s life.
As a young kid, I was always good at reading and writing. I always had some of the best hand writing
and I could always spell out words easily. Back then my mom would put me on different learning
mechanisms like children s books and Hooked on Phonics. Those tools it what helped me to be the
good speller, reader writer I am today. I used to showcase my talents in the annual spelling bee s every
year in elementary, I would never win but I would always come in second or third only because I have
a slight problem of just spelling words out word of mouth, but I can write out any word

Statement Of Internal Medicine
William Arthur Ward, author of Fountains of Faith, once wrote: Curiosity is the wick in the candle of
learning. I was always a curious child. Whenever I saw a sick person, I wondered what happens inside
the human body that causes illness, and my natural inquisitiveness only increased as I got older. By
the time I joined medical school, it was very clear to me that in this field I would be dealing with the
most precious thing in the world: human life. I truly believe that medicine is a service to humanity
because of the big difference a physician can make in a patient s life.
During medical school, I enjoyed the opportunity to rotate through the various wards of the hospital,
where I encountered scores of different types of patients with ... Show more content on

Internal medicine involves determining the crucial items from a huge pool of physical signs and lab
data, decisions on how to treat a difficult case, and estimating the risks and benefits of treatment for a
particular case. Of course, internal medicine is not only about diagnosing and managing a particular
case, but also about understanding every patient and being attuned to their changing needs, concerns,
and mental state. This is one of the only fields where providing healthcare and health education go
hand in hand. I personally enjoy managing the minute details of a case, helping patients understand
their conditions, and developing a comprehensive plan of care for them. The great versatility of this
field, the interplay between the different body systems involved, and the necessity of managing the
well being of the patient in entirety are all aspects of internal medicine that mesmerize

Explaining the Term Urbanisation Essay
Explaining the Term Urbanisation
Urbanisation is the process in which the number of people living in cities increases compared with the
number of people living in rural areas. A country is considered to be urbanised when over 50% of its
population lives in urban places. In the UK the movement of people from rural to urban areas
followed the industrial revolution as people were needed to work in the factories in the CBD. It took
place throughout the 19th and Early 20th Centuries in Europe and North America. By 1950 most of
the people in these two continents lived in urban area. However their urbanisation was relatively slow,
allowing government s time to plan and provide for the needs of increasing ... Show more content on

Urbanisation results in urban sprawl. Urban sprawl is the expansion of urban areas into surrounding
non urban areas. In developing countries it occurs largely as a result of growing cities. In developed
countries car dependence is a major factor. For example in London UK, people may prefer to live in
the outskirts of the city where it is less congested and polluted and then commute to work using public
transport or their own cars.
Rapid urbanisation occurred during the period of industrialisation that took place in Europe and North
America in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many people moved from rural to urban areas
to get jobs. Since 1950 the most rapid growth in urbanisation has occurred in LEDCs, such as South
America, Africa and Asia. Between 1950 and 1990 the urban population living in LEDCs doubled. In
developed countries the increase was less than half.
People living in rural areas are pulled to the city. Often they believe that the standard of living in
urban areas will be much better than that in rural areas., however they are usually wrong. People also
hope for well paid jobs, and the greater opportunities to find casual or informal work.
2.) Explain the changing distributions of the world s largest counter urbanisation cities in recent years.
Counter urbanisation is a process of decentralisation where

Poetry Analysis Robert Frost Essay
POETRY ANALYSIS: DESIGN Robert Frost s poem Design seemingly disputes the question whether
there is a design to life; yet, he is not able to establish an answer. Despite the comlexity of his poem
his implied message is rather simple. Frost s statement clarified human s eagerness to finding a
meaning to life and an essential background and reason to events, regardless of how small and
insignificant they might be. His work states an advice not to interpret too much into insignificant
conincidences or apportion them too much relevance. During the first stanza, the speaker of the poem
encounters a dimpled white spider on a white heal all that has previously caught a white moth. This
seemingly coincidental situation is so distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, he proposes two answers on how the conincidence might have happenend. He suggests
that a design of darkness, an evil power, delectated by conceiling a bad deed in the color of goodness,
is to be held responsible. Yet, a spider killing an insect is a fairly common sight and in no way
spectacular. This would imply, that the designer, God, or whatever you might want to call it, himself,
besides all the beauty on earth, also created destruction. This is a shocking picture and differs from
most peoples image of a creator which is what makes this poem so powerful and striking. His second
idea would be that there is no order and design to life at all. If this small example of destruction was
not the work of some evil force, then so his argumentation there can be no God or goodness leading
the small things on earth. Consequently, if small things on earth are not governed by a good force, the
possibility of no god or no design at all is given. But does this form of reasoning not seem a little far
fetched, almost satiric? Even though Robert Frost is known for agnostic poetry, this poem obviously
focuses on humanity. It is a parody of humans everlasting curiosity and their compulsion to find a
proof for a supreme being and a reason for existence on earth. He is describing a spider killing a moth
while sitting on a flower and despite the fact that there is a perfectly plausible biological

On The Road Dean Mariarty Analysis
The Pothole Friend Friends are like roads. Back roads, highways, freeways each present different
challenges and experiences, much like the relationships one forms during a lifetime. Genuine
relationships, just like a smooth, newly paved road, make the journey of life pleasant, but every now
and again one hits a pothole. Although the damage potholes cause can be aggravating at first, they are
equally important as the smooth part of the road, for it is these nuisances in life that teach valuable
lessons necessary for individual learning and growth. In On the Road, Dean Moriarty is a pothole that
Sal Paradise encounters during his travels. Upon reflection of the flawed friendship between Dean and
Sal, I have come to realize that I have experienced a similar relationship. Dean is popular, attractive,
and in Sal s eyes, is just about the coolest person ever. Personally, I can relate to admiring a friend for
analogous reasons. I first met this individual in middle school when we played soccer together. In high
school our friendship grew and we spent more time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

competitive sports and could not afford to go out every weekend. It was by stepping back and

that although we had some similarities as friends, our bond was based solely around having fun. When
I recalled how she shared secrets I had asked her to keep private and made frivolous comments that
embarrassed me in group settings, it suddenly became clear that she did these things because to her,
having a good time was more important than being in an emotionally supportive friendship. Just as
Dean was apathetic towards Sal, she did not seem to overly care about my thoughts and feelings, but
rather simply enjoyed my presence just as I enjoyed

If change is forced on people normally problems occur. Change must be realistic, achievable and
measurable, so as managing director it is extremely important to understand how to engage
employees, and lead the business, in working around this change (TFG 2014). Change management
enables employees to adopt a change so that business objectives and outcomes can be achieved.
Whenever there is some sort of organizational change employees can experience varied levels of
discomfort. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors,
such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new
change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts
should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching
this in the best way. Planning, leading organizing, negotiating and controlling are four management
functions that can be used and implemented to keep employees motivated towards company goals and
reassured about the businesses direction in a time of change.
Organizations are continually faced with a changing environment, therefore a need for a shift in
strategic direction, must be implemented. The successes of major organizational change initiatives are
almost always dependent on the incorporation of its workers and employees to help implement these
changes.

The Aeneid A Kind Of Propaganda, Cicero s Second Philippic
Relying on hostile evidence to recreate Marcus Antonius life from his youth until the Battle of Actium
entrains several issues. This essay will discuss Virgil s Latin epic The Aeneid , a kind of propaganda,
Cicero s Second Philippic a piece written with personal and political intentions in mind, and Plutarch s
Rome in Crisis regarding Antony. One must treat these sources with caution, not least because of the
inherent bias present in their writing. It is necessary to take into account the context, type of source
and how the author has shaped material for their own personal or political gain. Limitations.
Virgil shapes material for his own literary and historical purposes, therefore bias is present. The
Aeneid is in part acknowledges Augustus as being key to the Golden Age after Caesar s assassination
(2).The 19 year old grand nephew/adopted son was Caesar s heir and eventually he defeated Cleo and
Antony at Actium in 31 bc (3). In this Euphoria Virgil took to writing patriotic poems such as The
Aeneid (4). After a century of civil war, Augustus victory promises a return of order, prosperity and
peace to Rome.
Augustus ignored Virgil s instruction to burn The Aeneid after his death in 19 BC. This indicates that
Virgil wrote in favour of his patron, ruler of Rome and is hostile towards Antony due to this (5).
Therefore, Augustus is a bringer of peace , consequently Mark Antony is associated with the violence
of civil war.

Heritable Race Based Slavery And Indentured Servitude Essay
1. Heritable Race Based Slavery Indentured Servitude:
a. Heritable Race Based Slavery:
Heritable Race Based Slavery was essentially similar to indentured servitude because indentured
servitude led to heritable race based slavery in certain ways. Without indentured servitude, they would
have never gotten to the need to use heritable race based slavery. Which is following in the condition
of the mother. The children of a slave mother are born into slavery. They are born into slavery and
they are going to be a slave because their mother is. It used to be following in the condition of the
father, but what father is a slave? It was rare, especially if you have a mulatto child. The father would
be white. So, to avoid having all these free black children, who should be slaves ( Follow The Money
) they used the condition of the mother. The mother is always a slave, so therefore, they make money
and get more slaves out of the deal. You have a generation to generation guaranteed slave, what more
could you want?
b. Indentured Slavery:
Indentured Servitude is where you can say it all started. Indentured Servitude was used for 4 7 years to
pay off a debt. It could be extended, but there was always a promise that it would end (you would gain
freedom) and that you would get land when it was over and settled with. Indentured Servitude also
had blacks and whites together. They were not separated like they were with slavery, which was
strictly blacks. Indentured Servitude was not passed

The Market Of Monopoly, Oligopoly And Duopoly Monopoly
Introduction
There are different types of market situation a firm has to face which directly affect the price and the
quantity demanded and supplied in the economy. The major types of market structures prevalent in the
economy are perfect competition, monopolistic market, monopoly, oligopoly and duopoly. Here, in
this essay we will be elaborating about three market conditions i.e. monopoly, oligopoly and duopoly
where monopoly is characterized by single seller in the market selling unique products with high
barriers to entry which makes it difficult or impossible for others firms to enter the market. As a result,
firm can enjoy abnormal profit by owning the fundamental resources, licenses and patents that create
legal barriers to other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New Zealand Stock Exchange which can be called as only competitor is also interested to help them
rather than competing with them. Likewise, Australia has the legalized monopoly in the field of casino
and gambling licenses. For example, tatts lotto and TAB operations in Queensland, Southern
Australia, Northern Territory is legally protected. In addition to this, city link trains are also enjoying
monopoly n the major cities like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (Dunn 2006). Through monopoly
firms want to maintain the standards and retain the prices ( Darren 2012).
In the monopoly market situation the profit is maximum at a point where marginal cost (MC) is equal
to marginal revenue (MR) where equilibrium price is P1 and cost being ATC1 leading to abnormal
economic profit which is shown by the shaded area (Hubbard et. al. 2013).
With limited options the oligopoly tends to largely ignore the actual consumer because they have such
little market power so, consumer orientation is low in an oligopoly and the investment in market
research tends to be low to non surviving. As a result of all this, oligopolistic markets have highly
loyal customers due high brand awareness but very low in brand associations and exhibits low
differentiation from each other. In Australia 80 percent of national retail banking is ruled by four big
banks i.e. National Australia bank (NAB), Common Wealth Bank, Australia

How To Write A Medical Malpractice Essay
You have gone to a licensed physical therapist for rehabilitation, but instead of getting better, your
condition has worsened. You get yourself medically checked and realize that you have undergone
wrong treatment. Now, you must be wondering if you can file a case of medical malpractice against

Finally you will have to explain the extent and depth of your injuries and how those injuries

Macbeth Tomorrow And Tomorrow
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.... These are some of the opening words to one of the most
famous soliloquy ever written by William Shakespeare. If you are familiar with this quote then you
know that it was said by Macbeth in Act Five, Scene Five of Shakespeare s famous play Macbeth.
Macbeth shares these thoughts with the audience after his wife, Lady Macbeth, commits suicide
overcome with the guilt of killing King Duncan. Ever since the death of Duncan, Lady Macbeth had
been having trouble sleeping and getting over the guilt of planning and helping with the murder of the
old great King of Scotland. Some argue that this soliloquy is the actually point in the play Macbeth
where Macbeth himself starts to realize that he is almost done. ... Show more content on

To a certain extent I can relate to this thought because most of us will live life and not do anything
majorly important, but even the smallest things make a difference. For the main reason that even the
smallest things in life make a difference it s easy to see that everyone makes a difference and that life
is not just a waste of time. For example if you were to walk down the street and help someone carry
their groceries to their car or into their house it might inspire them to help someone else. The theory is
that if you do something to help someone they might feel more likely to help someone who would do
the same and in the end more people would be helping each other. This seemingly small act would
argue that no one s life is a waste. Macbeth on the other hand is arguing that everyone s life is waste
because no one truly does anything important with their lives; more specifically Macbeth views his
life and the life of his wife as wasteful because all they did was murder a perfectly good king in self
interest. We see this quote in act five, scene five, lines 24 28; Life s but a walking shadow, a poor
player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an
idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Not only does Macbeth say that life is wasteful, he
says that it represents nothing. By this he means that everyone is living for nothing and is wasteful at
the same time, no one is important. I believe that Macbeth might have had different aspect of this idea
had he not wasted away his life by murdering someone out of self interest. Personally I think that
Macbeth would ve had a different view on this idea had he not just lost his wife, who left behind
nothing but sorrow for Macbeth

Graphs are an important way to communicate and visualize trends and patterns that are otherwise
difficult to identify and gain valuable insight into a given relation or problem in this way. Information
when given in the form of tables can be easily graphed and be used to make educated predictions and
decisions. A graph, like an equation, is the language that best helps recognize the relationship, which
exists between the variables involved in a situation. Graphs, like languages, have specific rules, some
of which date back to ancient civilizations. It is believed that the coordinate system was first used in
ancient times for urban planning, surveying, and astronomy in the old Egyptian and Babylonian
civilizations. For thousands of years, the rectangular coordinate system was used, not exactly the way
we know it today. It was not until the 1600s, when it was rediscovered by the mathematicians of the
time that geometric problems could be solved by using algebraic equations and vice versa. Rene
Descartes (1596 1650) and Pierre Fermat (1601 1665) are credited with being the first mathematicians
in taking such an approach. This approach evolved over time into the Cartesian coordinate system, as
it is known today.

The Endoplasmic Reticulum
1. Introduction
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the central intracellular organelle providing stringent quality
control systems to protein synthesis. Upon accumulation of misfolded/ unfolded proteins in the ER,
eukaryotic cells have developed an evolutionarily conserved adaptive mechanism, unfolded protein
response (UPR), to clear these proteins and restore ER homeostasis. The ability to respond to
perturbations in ER function is critical for cell survival but chronic or amplified ER stress can lead to
apoptosis to protect the organism by removing the stressed cells. Growing evidence suggests that ER
stress mediated apoptosis may contribute to pathophysiological processes involved in a number of
diseases such as neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis and renal disease [1]. This term
paper intends to address (i) ER stress mediated signaling, (ii) molecular mechanisms linking ER stress
to apoptosis and (iii) a potential role of ER stress in autoimmunity in the context of type I diabetes.
2. The Endoplasmic Reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an essential organelle that is a major place for the biogenesis of
cellular components including proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates and internal calcium storage. ER is
primarily responsible for protein translocation, protein folding and protein post modification. Proper
folding of protein in the ER is accomplished with the aid of ER resident proteins or enzymes such as
chaperones. Binding of chaperones to

Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, And Symbolic...
This response addresses question four and define the provided theories, which include structural
functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. In doing so, various components of the
theories are identified in relation to the topic of social change. In doing so, it is important to point out
that in sociology, theories are used to explain the patterns, the way groups of people decide to perform
specific actions, and the way societies do certain things or rather experience a change in a different
manner. On the other hand, social change implies the growth and development of a social order, which
bears some significant consequences.
To begin with, structural functionalism looks at the society as a bundle of a complex system with
different parts that work to support the whole. It stipulates that a society is a combination of
interrelated components, which work independently, but seek to achieve a common goal, which
supports the growth of the whole system. Some of the systems in the society include the government,
schools, businesses, and families. In essence, all these different components are fundamental in the
society as they serve different functions to develop the society. On the other hand, social conflict
theory looks at the society as a system with equal components, but within the endeavors to grow to
find themselves in conflicting paths. Thinking about the society, some of the trends lead to conflict
among the people living together. For example, ageism,

Both are pretty bad in their own ways. Physical fights as I see it, is when the people fighting are just
going for hurting the body. The mental fights for me are trickier because half the time people don t
even realize they re in one till it s too late. Honestly I think it s girls who start the mental fights 90% of
the time. The become your friend, but the moment you mess up something. Like for example, their
birthday or favorite color. They become your worst enemy, and you don t know that they re plotting
against you until it s too late. They are like a mean puppy in a sense. Nice and friendly at first, but
then the next thing you know you re petting them and they re trying to bite your hand off.
I honestly think that people start fights because they re bored and in need of something to talk about. I
think people should get more into being productive rather than starting drama just so they can relate to
their favorite tv show stars. Like I know this girl named Serena and let me tell you she loves drama.
With her it is like new drama is always coming up. It can be quite annoying honestly. I find it rather
crazy to me how you always hear people say I don t like drama, but a week later you hear how they
ended up starting drama. I m just personally sick of all the fighting/drama, but people seem to just
love it.

Modeling Disaster Recovery By Estimating Rpo And Rto
Modelling Disaster Recovery by Estimating RPO and RTO Thaila Annamalai (CSU ID: 830860017),
thaila@colostate.edu
Abstract Disaster Recovery (DR) proposes strategies for choosing the pattern of DR for every
business Unit. The importance of the business and the DR readiness is assessed by the recovery time
objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO). This assessing method make sure business
continuity even under a drastic failure and a long disrupted period. The data backup and protection has
become a basic requirement in networks because of the generation of data in huge volume from each
business unit. The disasters that can occur has to be identified and should be evaluated ... Show more

Traditionally, the DRP was to back up the data in a remote place and then access them during disaster.
The storing of data remotely can take place in two ways either periodically or from time to time.
These methods were costly and inefficient since large amount of storage was needed. The
development in cloud computing paved a way for this problem. In cloud computing large amount of
data can be generated and stored. Also, this gives real time backup of data. Though only large scale
business units use real time backup other advantages of cloud computing are utilized by other business
units. The primary working site and the backup site is separated. The probability of failure occurring
in both sites at the same time is rare. The RTO is defined as the time during which the business unit is
unavailable due to the failure. This includes the time of the disaster occurrence and the time needed to
restore the functionalities. The RPO is the time period between two successive backups. This metric
will let the user aware of the maximum amount of data that can be lost when the restoration is
completed. The RPO should be close to 0 in an optimized DR system.
MOTIVATION
Disaster recovery has become the topic of interest in today s research due to two main reasons: (1) The
size of the computer data handled by the organizations are huge and are growing with time. (2) if the
data loss is not handled within the

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels
No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different
characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner
mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which
characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from

characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are

Cosmopolitanism And The Role Of Diversity In American Cinema
Cosmopolitanism or the capacity of belonging everywhere has been defined by a high level of mutual
respect for the rights of others and a generalized tolerance of ethnic, cultural, political and national
differences (Buchanan, 2010, p. 99). Beyond the Kantian, individual definition, some recent
sociological and cultural approaches on the issue suggest that it could be more productive to study it in
a situated context and not as an abstract idea (Glick Schiller and Irving, 2015). Now that the concept is
becoming more relevant to the study of transnational cinemas, it is worth to notice that this
interpretation of film cosmopolitanism is not necessarily subscribed to the idea of a neutral cinema,
free from local or national perspectives.
In order to analyse the particular case of international film festivals as showcases of diversity in the
Colombian cinema, this paper addresses the ideas of cosmopolitanism as ... Show more content on

For instance, critical cosmopolitanism, seen within the scope of cultural modes of mediation
emphasizes moments of world openness created out of the encounter of the local with the global
(Delantey, 2006, 27). But the ideas of cosmopolitanism may also be related to a colonial gaze upon the
discovery of the other and here the postcolonial theory provides a critical overview that questions the
univocal idea of modernity. This perspective opens up the possibility of understanding a
cosmopolitanism from below or diversality (Mignolo, 2000). Beyond a uniform idea of globalization
studies on cultural media industries in Latin America point out to the idea of mundialization of culture

technology and government structures in the production, consume and circulation of cultural

Holden Caulfield s The Catcher s The Rye
Are 50 s teens able to survive the hurtful but unavoidable transition of becoming a grown up as they
struggle with the changes that come along with it?
JD. Salinger s 1951 book, The Catcher in the Rye, shows us how society treated their confused and
changing teenagers during their transition into adulthood. The book s main character Holden Caulfield
is being pressured into growing up even though he doesn t feel ready, to lead an adult life. He is still
struggling socially and mourning for his deceased brother whose death turned Holden upside down
and into a negative, hopeless person from a young age, which causes him to be distracted, indifferent
and to flunk every school he goes to.
Therefore, Holden Caulfield seems to be dealing with a world that is forcing him to change his ways
and grow up because of his age while he struggles with his past, present and future, in this JD Salinger
classic.
Thesis Statement Brainstorm:
1 Salinger s main character Holden, is seen to be struggling with his past, present and future in The
Catcher in the Rye.
2 Holden is seen to be having unspecified negative thoughts about growing up throughout JD Salinger
s famous The Catcher in the Rye.
3 JD Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye s main character Holden Caulfield seems to be dealing with a
world that forces him to change his ways because of his age and what it s expected from him while he
is struggling with his past, present and future.

The Relation Between Wen s Theorem And Lawton
In this work, we review a paper by Parker [4]. In [4] Parker derived several trace identities for M(3,
C). In this paper we improve on the results obtained by Parker [4]. We discuss the relation between
Wen s theorem and Lawton [1] and Will s work on the trace of the commutator
[8]. We also present the merits on how to parametrise pair of pants via traces and cross ratio. In the
last section we use a formula which is due to Pratoussevitch [6] to compute trace of matrices
generated by complex reflection.

Keywords: Hermitian matrix, Hermitian form, Free group, Triangle group,
Special linear group, Special unitary group, Trace of a matrix.
1 Introduction
In his survey paper published as [4], Parker studied the connection between the geometry of M and
traces of Γ, where M is a complex hyperbolic orbifold written as H2
C
/Γ and Γ is a discrete, faithful representation of π1(M) to
Isom(H2
C). He did that by first considering the case where Γ is a free group on two generators and secondly,
looking at the case where Γ is a triangle group generated by complex reflections in three complex
lines. Several geometrical information connecting traces and complex hyperbolic space could be seen
in Parker [4].
Pratossevitch [6] also presented several formulas for the traces of elements in complex hyperbolic
triangle groups generated by complex reflections. In this paper we improve on the traces identities
found by Parker [4] on M(3, C).

Monumento a la Memoria y la Verdad, San Salvador
Annotated Bibliography
Monument:
Monumento a la Memoria y a la Verdad. 6 Dec. 2003. Black Granite. San Salvador, El Salvador. Sept.
2004.
This monument was created in order to commemorate the civilians lives lost during the Salvadoran
Civil War. The monument was made to resemble the Vietnam Memorial; it is made of black granite
and has in scripted the names of the war victims. However, the monument only has in scripted the
names of 30,000 of the 75,000 war victims. The names are organized in alphabetical order. It is 85 feet
long and 15 feet tall. The monument also has the name of the massacres that took place during the war
such as La Masacre del Izote in which an entire town was burned down and 10,000 civilians were
killed. The project begun in 1994 and it was finished in 2003. The monument was made to pay the
government s moral debt to the population, as stated by the current president of El Salvador. It is
meant to be a symbol of memory and reconciliation. However, the reconciliation aspect of it can be
debatable because it requires the forgiveness for all the lives that were lost during the war and the
horrific circumstances citizens were subject to. The question whether or not the goal of the monument
was met is challenged by forgiving means forgetting paradox.

Power Of Choice In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
The book of Genesis demonstrates the history of creation. In the process of creating the world, the
reader can see that there are three sections demonstrated: the creation, the fall, and redemption. The
way that these three sections are exhibited is the amount of imagery and parallelism displayed in each
story. However, in the book, East of Eden, there is an allusion of Cain and Abel story in which
demonstrates the power of choice. This idea of the power of choice comes back to the original story of
the human creation: Adam and Eve. With the combination of the history of Genesis and Steinbeck s
novel East of Eden, demonstrates the idea of liberation especially with Steinbeck s character Cal.
In the book of Genesis, the story of Adam and Eve is the example of individual choice for the rest of
humanity. When God confronted Adam He stated, Thou shalt not eat of it : cursed is the ground for
thy sake: in sorrow shalt, thou eat of it all the days of thy life (3:17). Here in ... Show more content on

He states, the Hebrew word, the word timshel Thou mayest that gives a choice. It might be the most
important word in the world (303). This idea of timshel is a recurring theme all throughout the third
and fourth part of the novel. Lee does state two other definitions in which one states, a command and
the other one states a promise. At the end of the novel, Lee is pressuring Adam to forgive his only
living child, Cal and break a curse. For many scholars, the ending of the novel can be a little
ambiguous just because there is no clear indication of the action of stating, Timshel. In my
interpretation of the ending of the novel is a sign of liberation that started from the garden of Eden to
the story of Cain and Abel , until now. At the end when Adam states, Timshel, it shows that Cal is free
to be who wants to be. Cal can have the liberty of choice and not be thrown down to a tradition or
cruse that started in the book of

Importance Of Political Egalitarianism
Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal
conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political
equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio professional
categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the
only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the
others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects
participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with
different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve
problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other
factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the
needs of people. Many studies on different countries have established that the greater economic status
of the individuals corresponds to greater political participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly
subordinates to the following logic: a certain social and economic position that evokes a sense of
social and political competence generates a certain level of political participation. Understanding
political participation presupposes the ability to understand

Space Travel And Its Impact On The Future
Commercializing Low Earth Orbit
If humans hope to undertake space travel and investigate our solar system and beyond, space travel
first have to make it affordable, relevant and interesting to the general public and the private sector
and the government have to work together. New technology has to be developed, including more
sustainable rockets, new fuel propagation methods and energy consumption techniques that can allow
for prolonged space travel. But before making plans for space travel, the costs that come along with
launching objects or humans into the final frontier of space have to be reduced significantly. A good
way to increase the public interest and to raise money for space travel is to commercialize low earth
orbit flights. Low Earth Orbit is only about 400 km above the Earth; the International Space Station
(ISS) is currently hovering in Low Earth Orbit in the thermosphere of Earth s atmosphere (1). Some
companies have started selling the idea that for a certain price one can now travel to Low Earth Orbit
and get the feeling of temporarily floating in space due to the decreased effect of gravity. Of course it
is very expensive to buy a ticket to participate in one of these flights but commercializing the idea of
flying to space and becoming an astronaut can help fund future space endeavors. Also, we are starting
to see more and more partnerships developing between private companies interesting in space travel
and the National Aeronautics and Space

Reflection About Fun Home
Fun Home is a Modern musical based on the graphic novel of the same name. Until this class I was
not familiar with this show. I had heard about it in passing but had never heard any of the music, did
not know the plot line, and I did not know the origins. When I heard that it had won a Tony, I knew it
had to be good but I was still a little skeptical since I did not know much about it. However, once I
saw it I can say that I was not disappointed. It had some great lessons that most of us can take away
even if we do not agree with the context of the lessons. For the most part, the actors did a phenomenal
job, and there were some insane vocals. The lighting and stage design were great. All of this was
topped off with some great music. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She nailed that role. One of the parts that hit me hardest was when she was telling college age Alison
to not come back home again because she did not want her to waist her life like she had. What made it
so powerful for me was how the actress took that pause right after she said don t come back. It made
me think that the mother was mad at Alison because of her being lesbian, but then she finished the
thought and the true message came through. It was just incredible how much weight can be put into
one pause. The only person I was not a huge fan of was the actor who played Roy. To start with he
came on as four different characters over the course of the show. While I know that is difficult to do it
is by no means impossible, and he seemed to struggle with it. I think the biggest issue that he was
having was that all his characters seemed very immature and almost childish. He did not seem to be
able to switch very easily from being an adult to being a high schooler so all his characters seemed to
sit somewhere in the middle. This just made the show feel off at some points which made me as an
audience member feel kind of strange and almost uncomfortable. Other than that, I thought the
performance was very well done. Another aspect of the show that I really liked was the music. Not all
music is created equally, and just because this show is a musical does not mean that the music is that
great. However, this show delivered on that front with flying colors. Every

The Use of Anabolic Steroids in Society Today
The use of steroids in our society today is very common, that is with prescription. But that is not the

steroids over a specific period of time, stopping for a period, and starting again. In addition, users
frequently combine several different types of steroids to maximize their effectiveness while
minimizing negative effects, a process known as stacking (NIDA July/August 1997).
A lot of people associate steroids with body builders. I made the same assumption that is until I
researched this paper. In the 18 34 age group, about 1 percent had ever used steroids, for ages 35 and
older, that figure went down to .2 percent. More men than women had used the drugs: 0.9 percent of
men and 0.2 percent of women said they had ever taken steroids. NIDA s Monitoring the Future study

Innovation Policy in Brazil
As technological globalization advances and technological change progresses more quickly than ever

called National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and CAPES with the
responsibility to coordinate the programs of postgraduate education. The system is consolidated later
on with the inauguration of Brazil s innovation agency (FINEP) in the 80s and the creation of

Schick Razor Commercials Advantages And Disadvantages
Per current societal norms, all people are expected to shave at least one part of their body. Your
perceived gender determines how much one is expected to shave; for example, women are expected to
remove more hair than men are. Many companies take advantage of this norm, but the leading
enforcer of the rule is razor companies. Schick razor commercials are no exception. The company
produces razors and advertisements for the gender specific razors for men or women, and their
commercials are noticeably different depending on their target audience.
In different commercial targeted to women created by Schick, all the women were shown to be doing
different tasks. The first commercial picture a pink razor robot battling a jungle to refuel its hydrating
gel pockets, and shortly after transforms back to a razor ready to serve its owner by shaving her leg on
the side of a bathtub. This commercial entertaining, but was also based on the theory that all women
should be viewed as independent, yet girly at the same. The second commercial showed very thin
women standing in front of small bushes that were supposed to represent their own pubic hair. Two
women were given rusty scissors, and one was given a special Schick trimmer. After completing their
task, the Schick bush ended in the shape of a heart, and the remaining women glared enviously at the
clean cut bush. Again, this is based in the fact that women must be clean shaven no matter where the
area is. Finally, in commercial three, a girlfriend is pictured rushing around her apartment while trying
to clean and shave at the same time to prepare for the introduction of her boyfriend s mother. Once
more, the razor company shows how women are expected to be fully shaved for important events. Of
the tree, all the commercials were pictured in bright colors with girls conforming to the expectation
that all their natural body hair must be kept under wraps, if no completely removed.
The men s commercials were an entirely different scenario. The first men s commercial pictured a boy
in a laundromat who started to flirt with the only girl there, who started a laundry fight with him. The
shirt turned to water when it hit the boy to symbolize the hydration that the razor brought

  • 2. Importance Of Reading And Writing Reading and writing is very essential in one s lifetime. People always say they don t like reading and they don t like writing because it s boring and they have no interest, but little do they know they do it way more than they think. Everyday you re reading and writing, it might not be reading from a book or writing an essay but you re doing it. Most of you re reading comes from you reading texts messages, reading comments and captions on social media, reading road signs, etc. Most of your writing comes from typing those text messages and comments and captions. Without reading and writing you will basically have the same mental capacity of a rock. You wouldn t be able to get out the right pronunciation of words correctly and be able to understand thigs people are trying to tell you or write out to you. Other than oxygen and water reading and writing is the most essential part of a human s life. As a young kid, I was always good at reading and writing. I always had some of the best hand writing and I could always spell out words easily. Back then my mom would put me on different learning mechanisms like children s books and Hooked on Phonics. Those tools it what helped me to be the good speller, reader writer I am today. I used to showcase my talents in the annual spelling bee s every year in elementary, I would never win but I would always come in second or third only because I have a slight problem of just spelling words out word of mouth, but I can write out any word ... By the time I joined medical school, it was very clear to me that in this field I would be dealing with the most precious thing in the world: human life. I truly believe that medicine is a service to humanity because of the big difference a physician can make in a patient s life. During medical school, I enjoyed the opportunity to rotate through the various wards of the hospital, where I encountered scores of different types of patients with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Internal medicine involves determining the crucial items from a huge pool of physical signs and lab data, decisions on how to treat a difficult case, and estimating the risks and benefits of treatment for a particular case. Of course, internal medicine is not only about diagnosing and managing a particular case, but also about understanding every patient and being attuned to their changing needs, concerns, and mental state. This is one of the only fields where providing healthcare and health education go hand in hand. I personally enjoy managing the minute details of a case, helping patients understand their conditions, and developing a comprehensive plan of care for them. The great versatility of this field, the interplay between the different body systems involved, and the necessity of managing the well being of the patient in entirety are all aspects of internal medicine that mesmerize ... • 6. Explaining the Term Urbanisation Essay Explaining the Term Urbanisation Urbanisation is the process in which the number of people living in cities increases compared with the number of people living in rural areas. A country is considered to be urbanised when over 50% of its population lives in urban places. In the UK the movement of people from rural to urban areas followed the industrial revolution as people were needed to work in the factories in the CBD. It took place throughout the 19th and Early 20th Centuries in Europe and North America. By 1950 most of the people in these two continents lived in urban area. However their urbanisation was relatively slow, allowing government s time to plan and provide for the needs of increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Urbanisation results in urban sprawl. Urban sprawl is the expansion of urban areas into surrounding non urban areas. In developing countries it occurs largely as a result of growing cities. In developed countries car dependence is a major factor. For example in London UK, people may prefer to live in the outskirts of the city where it is less congested and polluted and then commute to work using public transport or their own cars. Rapid urbanisation occurred during the period of industrialisation that took place in Europe and North America in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many people moved from rural to urban areas to get jobs. Since 1950 the most rapid growth in urbanisation has occurred in LEDCs, such as South America, Africa and Asia. Between 1950 and 1990 the urban population living in LEDCs doubled. In developed countries the increase was less than half. People living in rural areas are pulled to the city. Often they believe that the standard of living in urban areas will be much better than that in rural areas., however they are usually wrong. People also hope for well paid jobs, and the greater opportunities to find casual or informal work. 2.) • 7. Poetry Analysis Robert Frost Essay POETRY ANALYSIS: DESIGN Robert Frost s poem Design seemingly disputes the question whether there is a design to life; yet, he is not able to establish an answer. Despite the comlexity of his poem his implied message is rather simple. Frost s statement clarified human s eagerness to finding a meaning to life and an essential background and reason to events, regardless of how small and insignificant they might be. His work states an advice not to interpret too much into insignificant conincidences or apportion them too much relevance. During the first stanza, the speaker of the poem encounters a dimpled white spider on a white heal all that has previously caught a white moth. This seemingly coincidental situation is so distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, he proposes two answers on how the conincidence might have happenend. He suggests that a design of darkness, an evil power, delectated by conceiling a bad deed in the color of goodness, is to be held responsible. Yet, a spider killing an insect is a fairly common sight and in no way spectacular. This would imply, that the designer, God, or whatever you might want to call it, himself, besides all the beauty on earth, also created destruction. This is a shocking picture and differs from most peoples image of a creator which is what makes this poem so powerful and striking. His second idea would be that there is no order and design to life at all. If this small example of destruction was not the work of some evil force, then so his argumentation there can be no God or goodness leading the small things on earth. Consequently, if small things on earth are not governed by a good force, the possibility of no god or no design at all is given. But does this form of reasoning not seem a little far fetched, almost satiric? Even though Robert Frost is known for agnostic poetry, this poem obviously focuses on humanity. It is a parody of humans everlasting curiosity and their compulsion to find a proof for a supreme being and a reason for existence on earth. He is describing a spider killing a moth while sitting on a flower and despite the fact that there is a perfectly plausible biological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Back roads, highways, freeways each present different challenges and experiences, much like the relationships one forms during a lifetime. Genuine relationships, just like a smooth, newly paved road, make the journey of life pleasant, but every now and again one hits a pothole. Although the damage potholes cause can be aggravating at first, they are equally important as the smooth part of the road, for it is these nuisances in life that teach valuable lessons necessary for individual learning and growth. In On the Road, Dean Moriarty is a pothole that Sal Paradise encounters during his travels. Upon reflection of the flawed friendship between Dean and Sal, I have come to realize that I have experienced a similar relationship. Change must be realistic, achievable and measurable, so as managing director it is extremely important to understand how to engage employees, and lead the business, in working around this change (TFG 2014). Change management enables employees to adopt a change so that business objectives and outcomes can be achieved. Whenever there is some sort of organizational change employees can experience varied levels of discomfort. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors, such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching this in the best way. Planning, leading organizing, negotiating and controlling are four management functions that can be used and implemented to keep employees motivated towards company goals and reassured about the businesses direction in a time of change. Organizations are continually faced with a changing environment, therefore a need for a shift in strategic direction, must be implemented. The successes of major organizational change initiatives are almost always dependent on the incorporation of its workers and employees to help implement these changes. A ... If you are familiar with this quote then you know that it was said by Macbeth in Act Five, Scene Five of Shakespeare s famous play Macbeth. Macbeth shares these thoughts with the audience after his wife, Lady Macbeth, commits suicide overcome with the guilt of killing King Duncan. Ever since the death of Duncan, Lady Macbeth had been having trouble sleeping and getting over the guilt of planning and helping with the murder of the old great King of Scotland. To a certain extent I can relate to this thought because most of us will live life and not do anything majorly important, but even the smallest things make a difference. For the main reason that even the smallest things in life make a difference it s easy to see that everyone makes a difference and that life is not just a waste of time. For example if you were to walk down the street and help someone carry their groceries to their car or into their house it might inspire them to help someone else. The theory is that if you do something to help someone they might feel more likely to help someone who would do the same and in the end more people would be helping each other. This seemingly small act would argue that no one s life is a waste. Macbeth on the other hand is arguing that everyone s life is waste because no one truly does anything important with their lives; more specifically Macbeth views his life and the life of his wife as wasteful because all they did was murder a perfectly good king in self interest. We see this quote in act five, scene five, lines 24 28; Life s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing. Not only does Macbeth say that life is wasteful, he says that it represents nothing. By this he means that everyone is living for nothing and is wasteful at the same time, no one is important. I believe that Macbeth might have had different aspect of this idea had he not wasted away his life by murdering someone out of self interest. • 16. The Endoplasmic Reticulum 1. Introduction The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the central intracellular organelle providing stringent quality control systems to protein synthesis. Upon accumulation of misfolded/ unfolded proteins in the ER, eukaryotic cells have developed an evolutionarily conserved adaptive mechanism, unfolded protein response (UPR), to clear these proteins and restore ER homeostasis. The ability to respond to perturbations in ER function is critical for cell survival but chronic or amplified ER stress can lead to apoptosis to protect the organism by removing the stressed cells. Growing evidence suggests that ER stress mediated apoptosis may contribute to pathophysiological processes involved in a number of diseases such as neurodegenerative disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis and renal disease [1]. This response addresses question four and define the provided theories, which include structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. In doing so, various components of the theories are identified in relation to the topic of social change. In doing so, it is important to point out that in sociology, theories are used to explain the patterns, the way groups of people decide to perform specific actions, and the way societies do certain things or rather experience a change in a different manner. On the other hand, social change implies the growth and development of a social order, which bears some significant consequences. To begin with, structural functionalism looks at the society as a bundle of a complex system with different parts that work to support the whole. It stipulates that a society is a combination of interrelated components, which work independently, but seek to achieve a common goal, which supports the growth of the whole system. Some of the systems in the society include the government, schools, businesses, and families. In essence, all these different components are fundamental in the society as they serve different functions to develop the society. Traditionally, the DRP was to back up the data in a remote place and then access them during disaster. The storing of data remotely can take place in two ways either periodically or from time to time. These methods were costly and inefficient since large amount of storage was needed. The development in cloud computing paved a way for this problem. In cloud computing large amount of data can be generated and stored. Also, this gives real time backup of data. Though only large scale business units use real time backup other advantages of cloud computing are utilized by other business units. The primary working site and the backup site is separated. The probability of failure occurring in both sites at the same time is rare. The RTO is defined as the time during which the business unit is unavailable due to the failure. This includes the time of the disaster occurrence and the time needed to restore the functionalities. The RPO is the time period between two successive backups. This metric will let the user aware of the maximum amount of data that can be lost when the restoration is completed. The RPO should be close to 0 in an optimized DR system. Beyond the Kantian, individual definition, some recent sociological and cultural approaches on the issue suggest that it could be more productive to study it in a situated context and not as an abstract idea (Glick Schiller and Irving, 2015). The monument also has the name of the massacres that took place during the war such as La Masacre del Izote in which an entire town was burned down and 10,000 civilians were killed. The project begun in 1994 and it was finished in 2003. The monument was made to pay the government s moral debt to the population, as stated by the current president of El Salvador. It is meant to be a symbol of memory and reconciliation. However, the reconciliation aspect of it can be debatable because it requires the forgiveness for all the lives that were lost during the war and the horrific circumstances citizens were subject to. The question whether or not the goal of the monument was met is challenged by forgiving means forgetting paradox. Books: DeLugan, Robin M. • 25. Power Of Choice In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden The book of Genesis demonstrates the history of creation. In the process of creating the world, the reader can see that there are three sections demonstrated: the creation, the fall, and redemption. The way that these three sections are exhibited is the amount of imagery and parallelism displayed in each story. However, in the book, East of Eden, there is an allusion of Cain and Abel story in which demonstrates the power of choice. This idea of the power of choice comes back to the original story of the human creation: Adam and Eve. With the combination of the history of Genesis and Steinbeck s novel East of Eden, demonstrates the idea of liberation especially with Steinbeck s character Cal. In the book of Genesis, the story of Adam and Eve is the example of individual choice for the rest of humanity. When God confronted Adam He stated, Thou shalt not eat of it : cursed is the ground for thy sake: in sorrow shalt, thou eat of it all the days of thy life (3:17). Here in ... This idea of timshel is a recurring theme all throughout the third and fourth part of the novel. Lee does state two other definitions in which one states, a command and the other one states a promise. At the end of the novel, Lee is pressuring Adam to forgive his only living child, Cal and break a curse. For many scholars, the ending of the novel can be a little ambiguous just because there is no clear indication of the action of stating, Timshel. In my interpretation of the ending of the novel is a sign of liberation that started from the garden of Eden to the story of Cain and Abel , until now. At the end when Adam states, Timshel, it shows that Cal is free to be who wants to be. Cal can have the liberty of choice and not be thrown down to a tradition or cruse that started in the book of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Importance Of Political Egalitarianism Political egalitarianism is the essential principle of any democratic society. All citizens have equal conditions for participation in political life. However, the reality is that the principle of political equality of citizens coexists with the social hierarchy that has developed around the socio professional categories, the level of education and income, classes and etc. Because we consider democracy as the only right way of governing people it is important to understand what makes some participate and the others to stay away from the whole process. Income can be one of the major factors that affects participation and needs to be studied in details. In particular, this work compares how people with different economic situations participate in the society, specifically whether they try to help to solve problems in the community if they ask help from government officials and etc. It also examines other factors like trust in the political system, trust in the election, and believe that politicians listen to the needs of people. Many studies on different countries have established that the greater economic status of the individuals corresponds to greater political participation. Political commitment is quite rigidly subordinates to the following logic: a certain social and economic position that evokes a sense of social and political competence generates a certain level of political participation. • 27. Space Travel And Its Impact On The Future Commercializing Low Earth Orbit If humans hope to undertake space travel and investigate our solar system and beyond, space travel first have to make it affordable, relevant and interesting to the general public and the private sector and the government have to work together. New technology has to be developed, including more sustainable rockets, new fuel propagation methods and energy consumption techniques that can allow for prolonged space travel. But before making plans for space travel, the costs that come along with launching objects or humans into the final frontier of space have to be reduced significantly. A good way to increase the public interest and to raise money for space travel is to commercialize low earth orbit flights. Low Earth Orbit is only about 400 km above the Earth; the International Space Station (ISS) is currently hovering in Low Earth Orbit in the thermosphere of Earth s atmosphere (1). Some companies have started selling the idea that for a certain price one can now travel to Low Earth Orbit and get the feeling of temporarily floating in space due to the decreased effect of gravity. Of course it is very expensive to buy a ticket to participate in one of these flights but commercializing the idea of flying to space and becoming an astronaut can help fund future space endeavors. • 29. Reflection About Fun Home Fun Home is a Modern musical based on the graphic novel of the same name. Until this class I was not familiar with this show. I had heard about it in passing but had never heard any of the music, did not know the plot line, and I did not know the origins. When I heard that it had won a Tony, I knew it had to be good but I was still a little skeptical since I did not know much about it. However, once I saw it I can say that I was not disappointed. It had some great lessons that most of us can take away even if we do not agree with the context of the lessons. For the most part, the actors did a phenomenal job, and there were some insane vocals. The lighting and stage design were great. All of this was topped off with some great music. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She nailed that role. One of the parts that hit me hardest was when she was telling college age Alison to not come back home again because she did not want her to waist her life like she had. What made it so powerful for me was how the actress took that pause right after she said don t come back. It made me think that the mother was mad at Alison because of her being lesbian, but then she finished the thought and the true message came through. It was just incredible how much weight can be put into one pause. The only person I was not a huge fan of was the actor who played Roy. To start with he came on as four different characters over the course of the show. While I know that is difficult to do it is by no means impossible, and he seemed to struggle with it. I think the biggest issue that he was having was that all his characters seemed very immature and almost childish. He did not seem to be able to switch very easily from being an adult to being a high schooler so all his characters seemed to sit somewhere in the middle. This just made the show feel off at some points which made me as an audience member feel kind of strange and almost uncomfortable. Other than that, I thought the performance was very well done. Another aspect of the show that I really liked was the music. Not all music is created equally, and just because this show is a musical does not mean that the music is that great. • 40. Schick Razor Commercials Advantages And Disadvantages Per current societal norms, all people are expected to shave at least one part of their body. Your perceived gender determines how much one is expected to shave; for example, women are expected to remove more hair than men are. Many companies take advantage of this norm, but the leading enforcer of the rule is razor companies. Schick razor commercials are no exception. The company produces razors and advertisements for the gender specific razors for men or women, and their commercials are noticeably different depending on their target audience. In different commercial targeted to women created by Schick, all the women were shown to be doing different tasks. The first commercial picture a pink razor robot battling a jungle to refuel its hydrating gel pockets, and shortly after transforms back to a razor ready to serve its owner by shaving her leg on the side of a bathtub. This commercial entertaining, but was also based on the theory that all women should be viewed as independent, yet girly at the same. The second commercial showed very thin women standing in front of small bushes that were supposed to represent their own pubic hair. Two women were given rusty scissors, and one was given a special Schick trimmer. After completing their task, the Schick bush ended in the shape of a heart, and the remaining women glared enviously at the clean cut bush. Again, this is based in the fact that women must be clean shaven no matter where the area is. Finally, in commercial three, a girlfriend is pictured rushing around her apartment while trying to clean and shave at the same time to prepare for the introduction of her boyfriend s mother. Once more, the razor company shows how women are expected to be fully shaved for important events. Of the tree, all the commercials were pictured in bright colors with girls conforming to the expectation that all their natural body hair must be kept under wraps, if no completely removed. The men s commercials were an entirely different scenario. The first men s commercial pictured a boy in a laundromat who started to flirt with the only girl there, who started a laundry fight with him.
