Essay on Biography of Michael Phelps
Credibility is an important characteristic to have. How credible you are means how trustworthy and
reliable you are. I think my athletic trainer is credible. He is good at what he does and always knows
how to help anyone who is injured so I trust he knows what he is doing. If he never knew what to do
and could not help you he would not be a very credible athletic trainer. This shows that your actions
can affect your credibility. I think Michael Phelps is a credible person when it comes to swimming. He
was very successful though his credibility took a hit when he was pictured holding a marijuana pipe
(Crouse).
Phelps was born to his parents, Fred and Debbie, on June 30, 1985 (JockBio: Michael Phelps
Biography). He has two sisters, Whitney ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Phelps also won a gold medal in 800 meter freestyle relay, 200 meter individual medley, 200 meter
freestyle, and the 400 meter freestyle relay. Michael Phelps made history by breaking the record of
seven gold medals in one Olympics by winning eight (JackBio: Michael Phelps Biography). These
Olympics made Michael Phelps a celebrity. He became known by many because he was an amazing
swimmer. Kids looked up to Phelps wanting to be like him someday.
Three months after his history making swims in Beijing, Michael Phelps was caught with a glass pipe,
or bong, that is used for smoking marijuana (Papa). A picture of Phelps holding the pipe and looking
like he was smoking was published in a British newspaper in 2009 (Crouse). The picture was taken
while he was at a party (Papa). Phelps did not ever admit to smoking marijuana but did apologize
(Mail Foreign Service). He said I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad
judgement ... For this, I am sorry (Papa). Phelps still got punished. He was banned from competing in
any swimming competitions for three months by USA Swimming (Mail Foreign Service). Along with
the suspension there was also a withdrawal of financial support for Phelps (Mail Foreign Service). The
contract Michael Phelps had with Kellogg s would not be renewed after it ended due to his drug
scandal (Mail Foreign Service). Kellogg s made a statement saying

The Definition Of Obscenity And Obscenity Laws Constructed...
Obscenity revolves around what constitutes pornography and sexually explicit material to be protected
by the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and press as stated in the Constitution. I want to
look at the language and definitions of obscenity created by the Supreme Court and interrupt their
effects on society. In this essay, I want to argue that the creation of the definition of obscenity and
obscenity laws constructed from community standards can be harmful to society because they can be
interrupted in many different ways. First, I would like to define terms of what obscenity means and the
differences between obscenity, vulgarity, and profanity. Obscenity, as defined by the Supreme Court
case of Miller v. California, believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a legal context, obscenity describes expressions that are typically sexual or crude references to the
body or bodily functions that offend the sexual morality of a given time and place. Even though, this
creates a gray are between something considered profane or vulgar language and/or behavior and
obscenity because profanity and vulgarity can offend the sexual morality as well. Nonetheless, the
First Amendment of the Constitution does not protect behavior, actions, or language seen specifically
as obscene.
Next, I would like to explore at what point or context does something turn from being considered
profane and/or vulgar into being considered obscene and therefore, against the law. In Roth v. US, the
court held that obscenity was not within the area of constitutionally protected speech or press . The
Supreme Court made it clear in the ruling that the First Amendment did not protect every behavior,
action, or expression, such as materials that were utterly without redeeming social importance . The
Supreme Court believed the definition of obscenity as stated in the above paragraph gave a fair
warning to the public and satisfied the demands of the Due Process clause in the Fourteenth
Amendment. The Supreme Court wanted to ensure to the public that an individual couldn t be
deprived of life, liberty and property without

A Patient With Respiratory Acidosis Essay
a) In a patient with respiratory acidosis, the partial pressure of CO2 in the plasma (PCO2) rises above
normal levels of 40 mmHg (1). Airway resistance due to asthma, respiratory depression due to drug
use as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease all cause hypoventilation, lowering partial
pressure of plasma oxygen (PO2) to below its normal value of approximately 100 mm Hg (1) and can
lead to respiratory acidosis. The equation below describes the equation between CO2 and H2O with
H+ and HCO3 . According to the law of mass action, all reactions tend towards equilibrium, and any
disturbance in the amount of any of the products or reactants will shift the reaction in a direction
which leads to re establishment of equilibrium. If CO2 concentration rises, the new chemical
equilibrium will favour further production of both H+ and HCO3 through disassociation of H2CO3.
Each additional molecule of CO2 would lead to production of one molecule of H+ and HCO3 .
〖CO〗_2+H_2 O→ H_2 CO^3→H^++HCO_3^ (1).
Production of H+ will cause plasma pH to fall below 7.4. Normally, increases in H+ concentrations
are buffered mostly by haemoglobin, however buffers can only resist small changes in pH. The HCO3
levels increase slightly, but are likely to still remain within normal levels of 22 to 26 mEq/L. This is
because equilibrium changes in concentrations is slight compared to the large compensatory changes
(1). Renal mechanisms can assist in excreting H+ and reabsorbing HCO3 .

Men s Health Magazine Analysis
The generic conventions that society condones concerning the male and the female figure is
emphasized on the Men s Health magazine headlining Cristiano Ronaldo, a world class soccer athlete,
GQ magazine (The Body Issue) calling attention to Cristiano Ronaldo and Alessandra Ambrosie, and
Muscle and Fitness featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Study done by researchers shows that men s
most powerful space of resistance against pressures to possess the perfect body was a traditional
masculine identity, and females powerful space of resistance was less traditional feminine identities
incorporating masculine characteristics (Jackson et al 30). This study holds true for the GQ magazine.

Use of language and Word Choice in My Last Duchess Essay
My Last Duchess by Robert Browning is a dramatic monologue in which the Duke of Ferrara is
discussing the matter of a dowry with an emissary sent by a Count. The use of dramatic monologue
allows the poet to subtly reveal the personality of the persona to the reader.
The language used by the speaker allows the poet to evoke strong emotions in the reader.
The reader is given an early insight into the personality of the Duke in the very first line of the
monologue:
That s my last Duchess painted on the wall
This early impression portrays the Duke as a very sophisticated man with a wealth of knowledge in
art. This impression is continued when he mentions the very artist who painted the Duchess, Fra
Pandolf .
However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This manner is not only continued, but emphasised further still when the Duke reverts to the subject of
money, discussing the situation with the
dowry . This shows how superficial and indeed shameful a person the
Duke is.
This shameful personality is brought out further still by the poet s use of rhyme and rhythm, the very
heart of the poem. The poet s use of style represents the Duke himself the poem has many example of
rhyme, for example Paint and Faint and, Durst and First this would suggest that the persona was
articulate. However, this is shown to be nothing more than a façade in the way in which the lines of
the poem run together, showing that the poet is not as skilled in language as he would like to make
out:
but/thanked/Somehow
The Duke here is seen to be struggling to express himself, showing his lack of skill in language and
emphasising that he has tried to create a false impression of himself. Even the rhythm of the poem,
iambic pentameter, which is very regular and basic, reflects the simplicity of the speaker himself, in
terms of his linguistic ability. The manner in which the Duke tries to cover up this limited ability
emphasises his superficiality.
However, it is the poet s clever use of word choice which is most effective in revealing the Duke s
personality.

Breitbart New Right
There is a growing sentiment that nationalist and conservative political parties are increasing in
popularity and influence around the world. While this may be true to some extent, it is arguably the
rise of the New Right that is gaining significant momentum in surging popularity and influence at this
current time. While it is easy to suggest that nationalist, populist, conservative and even fascism is
becoming more mainstream and acceptable in modern society, it is important that the New Right is
differentiated from the current group of right leaning politics. This paper will identify and discuss
what is the new right and what makes it different from other forms of the political right, as well as

The use of social media from the left and right are noticeably different. Brooker and Barnett (2017)
observed that those who were drawn to social justice politics tended to use insults as opposed to
engaging in a serious debate. This itself has created a stigma for socialists who don t support and even
oppose identity politics, but are associated with those using identity politics, similar to how the new
and alt right are often stated to be one of the same. And it is identity politics that s arguably drawing
the forgotten people to these alternative sources of information and humour. The ideology of political
correctness is identified by young people as censorship and suppression, comparable to
totalitarianism. It is for this reason why the new and alt right have made significant inroads in the
social media space. Traditional media repressed what those on the right call freedom of speech, thus
forcing individuals to search other places, predominantly online where their voices, concerns and
opinions can be

Oj Simpson s defense team was known as the Dream team . They were made up of multiple lawyers,
friends and close acquaintances. They defended him and won the case against the people of the state
of California. Johnnie Cochran one of the Dream team members played a major role in the outcome of

The Causes Of The Great Fear Of 1789
7. The causes of the peasants uprising known as the Great Fear of 1789 was the peasants impatience
and want to take matters into their own hands because they were furious with being forced to deal
with the most of the taxation, the church tithes, and the nobles abusing their privileges effecting their
lives. The cause that pushed them over the edge to begin the uprisings was the rise in the price of
bread. The outcomes of the uprising were the destroying of feudal documents, enclosed lands raided,
and most importantly the Nation Assembly having no choice but to issue a decree on August 4, 1789
that abolished all noble privileges including the hunting rights, the fees for legal cases judged in a lord
s court, forcing peasants to work on roads, along with the abolishment of tithes.
8. The documents of the National Assembly were the August Decree, The Declaration of the Rights of
Man and of the Citizen, the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, and the Constitution of 1791.The
Enlightenment ideas are reflected in each one like in the August Decree, the National Assembly
revokes the nobility s privileges and serfdom over the peasants in which they violated their natural
rights of especially liberty by John Locke as well as the economic ideas of Adam Smith of abolishing
guilds. The freeing of the serfs reflected Diderot s ideas. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of
the Citizen reflects the Enlightenment ideas of the government protecting the people s natural rights of

Furthermore, grease can be recycled or disposed of with the trash. Solid food waste should be ground

Inclusive Education
Abstract
A paragraph from Desiderata says, You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars,
you have a right to be here. The paragraph is in consonance with United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization s (UNESCO) 1994 Salamanca Statement which calls for the
accommodation of all children, regardless of their physical, intellectual, emotional state in an ordinary
school. The Framework for Action stipulates that children with special educational needs, namely: the

Mouton and Marais say its time to reconceptualize the classroom and not automatically think bad
behavior is the students problem and something that needs to be controlled. (Mouton, J. Marais, H.C.,
1990)
He suggested several ideas to ensure that classroom setting will adapt to inclusive education.
One, classrooms need one main rule respect one another. After this, if students and teachers create
interesting curriculum with materials that matter in the students lives, then students will be interested,
involved and focused on what they have designed. Two, teachers need excellent observational skills to
determine what caused a behavioral problem. Three, structure the environment so students are actively
engaged and motivated. That will be good teaching for all students. This will involve collaboration
and networking. It also means the teacher is not always in control, but is a member of the team of
problem solvers including the parents, the students and the other teachers. Lastly, common strategies

Compare and Contrast Essay of Rikki Tikki Tavi
Many people assume that the book and movie of the same story are always very similar, but they are
incorrect. In my comparison of the short story Rikki tikki tavi by Rudyard Kipling and the movie of
Rikki tikki tavi, I found them to be rather different. There were many minor differences, but the three
main topics in the short story that clearly differentiate it from the movie are the setting, the character
traits, and the use of humor. The setting in the movie differs from the setting in the short story in a few
ways. The setting in the movie dives into larger detail in many of the scenes such as in the beginning
flood scene. The flood scene setting in the movie reveals an eerie, strong, storm with a flood that
resembles a river and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning, the character traits in the movie differ from those portrayed in the short
story. The ways in which they differ include the various switched roles of characters and other aspects
including age and clothing. One of the switched roles is right in the beginning of the movie when the
father lifts up Rikki from the sand, whereas in the short story the mother picks him up. Another
switched role would be when Darzee s wife explains what happened to their baby egg that was eaten
by Nag, but in the short story Darzee does the explaining. One last switched role I came across was
how Nag is the instigator who wanted to take over the garden, but in the story it is Nagaina. Some
other differences include the age of Teddy and the clothing of the family. In the short story, Rudyard
Kipling creates Teddy as a young toddler, using words such as nursery to describe the room where he
sleeps, but in the movie Teddy appears to be almost ten years old with his fancy clothing and tall
height. Surprisingly, the family in the movie wears very nice, neat clothing. This is surprising because
of the way Rudyard Kipling describes the setting. With sand, dirt, and a garden, you would presume
that it would be a humid climate, which would result in the wearing of sandals and shorts. However, in

Advantages Of Communism And Communism
For many years, countries all around the world have been long debated between Capitalism
(Democracy or Republic) and Communism. The cold war is a perfect example of this; we spent
approximately 50 years in terror to solve this global issue. We should emphasize on the one system
that will lead to bright future. We, as humans, living/working under government. So we should make
our political system without obstacles and well organized. This question assumed from the
fundamental argument. In this argument, there are two perspectives shown: yes, if more countries

countries shouldn t have a communist policy because capitalism has more advantages than ... Show

Countries, which have the poor economy and a huge number of people who are poor then communism
is the best solution to get rid of. No one tried to work better than someone else because everyone is
paid at regular and has a job to do for their whole age. By making a united world, countries should
have communist principles to survive a separation between rich and poor. Additionally, if the number
of poor people would rapidly increase, then the rich people could not afford to make their rebels stop,
so a war would eventually happen. As I mentioned above, since there is no division then there are no

My Rifle Research Paper
I have got very many gifts and a bunch of unique, special gifts. This unreal item was a .308 caliber
rifle. It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three aspects of the gun
stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size of the gun itself. The
design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one. My rifle, in my opinion,
has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of the gun, it was sleek, natural
camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at the metal parts, and this matte finish
of black really matched the stock, which gave it my attention as I focused on it at first glance. The
barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple
times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp after constant heating through the violent explosion of the
cartridge as the bullets races through the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements
were just as important. At the time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. If I was too have

Service Members’ Transition to Community College Essay
Introduction
As demographics of college and university students in the United States evolve, so too must the
policies and procedures used to assist students in their pursuit of post secondary education (Radford,
2009). By the passage of educational acts such as the Servicemen s Readjustment Act of 1944 (Public
Law 78 346), the 1985 Montgomery GI Bill (Public Law 110 252), and now the Post 9/11 GI Bill
(Public Law 100 48), institutions of higher education have committed themselves not only to educate
the recently discharged and deactivated, but to address a student population with unique needs.
Student development practitioners must adapt strategies to assist the transition experience of their

Problem Statement
Under the original GI Bill (Public Law 78 346), about 4.9 million veterans enrolled in vocational and
technical training (Field, Helbel, Smallwood, 2008). According to the Department of Veterans Affairs,
Bradley (2009) surmised that an estimated 112,000 claims for benefits under the new GI Bill have
already been processed, and an estimated 250,000 veterans are expected to receive education benefits
in the next two years. Perhaps the greatest need of many returning veterans is assistance in addressing
psychological and social problems associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic
brain injury, or multiple physical injuries (Ford, Northrup, Wiley, 2009). While, historically,
community colleges are charged with serving those outside traditional student populations, it is
imperative that institutions of higher education recognize and plan for military and veteran student
needs.
Many combat veterans return with mental health needs that can complicate educational achievement.
In addition to specific disorders such as traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder,
combat veterans experience psychosocial disruption as they rapidly transition from the role from
warrior to that of student. (Sachs, 2008, p.1)
Focused services and procedural and programmatic adaptation can be modeled upon the experiences

Plato s Views On The Virtue Of The Virtues Essay
As far as I am concerned, the result is that I know nothing, for when I don t know what justice is, I ll
hardly know whether it is a kind of virtue or not, or whether a person who has it is happy or unhappy
(Republic 354c)
Plato presents Socrates as believing in the unity of the virtues, skeptical of those who, like Meno, wish
to treat the virtues as distinct objects of inquiry in dialogues such as Laches, Protagoras, Meno, the
Republic, and Euthyphro. These dialogues provide good reason to deny that Plato s Socrates believed
in the numerical identity of the virtues. I shall argue that in the various virtues is one essence (or virtue
), as revealed in a conceptual search for definitional clarity and a metaphysical appeal to Form that
encompasses innumerous virtues.
I.
For Socrates, an adequate definition will reveal the common quality that belongs to both all and only;
and necessarily and sufficiently, instances of the virtue that is being defined. In Euthyphro, Socrates
addresses these definitional issues by criticizing the paradox presented in the dialogue as follows: And
so Euthyphro, when you re asked what the pious is, it looks as though you don t want to reveal its
being to me, but rather to tell me one of its affections that this happens to the pious, that its loved by
all the gods (Euthyphro 11a). The term being here I will interpret as essence, the more commonly
utilized semantic in translations of Plato (Ross 2006). An appropriate

management which, Armistead et al (1994), argued is at the heart of the control and planning process
within operations management in the service industry.
Capacity management and all its elements including, staff, delivery systems and processes is such a
large part of any organisation it is vital to its success. For any organisation being able to manage
capacity is critical to the simple business function of providing a service to meet the demand set by
customers. (Hill et al, 2011)
3.0 Capacity Decisions
It is to be expected that more insightful capacity decisions can be made when demand can be
forecasted accurately. Nonetheless, demand can fluctuate through unpredictable factor, such as,
weather conditions. When faced with these circumstances even forecasting techniques of the highest
standard may not be sufficient enough to provide enough detailed information. (A Betts et al 2000) 3.1

A Research Study On Research Design
Research design The use of survey design was done for the study to be able to adopt a quantitative
approach. The fact that this survey method has the capability to make data collection from various
responding groups more enhanced made it the favorite. Besides, this method didn t require a lot of
investment for the administering and development purposes, it possesses various variables that could
easily be studied, and seemed to be very easy comparatively in order to make generalizations (Glasow,
2005; Zikmund, Babin, Carr Griffin, 2009). Research method Participants and sampling For this study,
the concerned sample (n = 272) was made out of the professionally chosen staff team and managers in
a certain American government department and Green s (1991) thumb rule was used in order to find
out the sample size, according to which at least 50 participants are required to observe the reversion or
correlation with the numbers that increased with greater numbers of IVs (Independent Variables).
Moreover, the older studies that were conducted (Ericksen Dyer, 2005; Katou Budhwar, 2007; Watson,
Maxwell Furquharson, 2007) in which the sample sizes that were similar were made use of to analyse
the organizational performance in all the Health Care Organizations organizations was somewhat used
as well as kind of reference points that gave a direction in the determination of the study s sample size.

Importance of Fitness Facility Employment for Physical...
While a balanced educational program specializing in physical therapy, fitness instruction, and overall
health is capable of imparting the knowledge necessary to effectively train others, it is the prerogative
of each graduating student to assess the job market and decide between working in a traditional gym
and seeking self employed status. For most aspiring fitness trainers and physical therapists, the
realization of long held ambitions will be delivered in the form of a secure and steady full time
position with a major fitness franchise such as Gold s Gym, Snap Fitness, or Bally Total Fitness. With
recently released statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor stating that employment of fitness
trainers and instructors is expected to grow by 24 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average
for all occupations, (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012), the majority of individuals with a fitness based
degree or certification are enticed by the protection offered by such a robust industry. Others are
drawn to the freedom and excitement of working as a freelance personal trainer, relishing the
opportunity to travel, meet new clients and develop customized fitness programs. Most personal
trainers who work in a freelance capacity value the sense of independence derived from their work, as
well as the ability to help other people improve their lives by achieving their fitness goals. Evaluating
the distinct advantages and disadvantages of these divergent paths represents a

The Importance Of Conflicts In The Jungle
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a tough read that teaches the corrupt policies of capitalism. The
narrator, Jurgis, struggles with his new life in America because it isn t the ideal dream that most
immigrants have. Jurgis struggles are understandable, but there are many who have never had to
experience what he has so it is harder to sympathize and compare oneself to that of a character with no
similarities. However, this novel also teaches the hardships immigrants typically went through during
their transitions, or their lives in general, in America while also providing the reader with healthy
confusion. This novel establishes a sense of confusion, uneasiness, or worry while also making the
reader feel pleasure or happiness. There are several instances in the novel where the reader
experiences this healthy confusion while learning about the differences in lifestyles between the
fortunate and those looking to have a new life but encounter conflicts. Most scenes in this novel are
sad, but also have happiness buried deep within the text or meaning. In The Jungle, Jurgis struggles
with his life in America and has trouble finding a job to support himself, his family, and pay off his
debts, like the wedding. He is able to find a job, but it does not pay well and the working conditions
are horrible. After hurting himself and going to jail, he is unable to find another job and does whatever
he can to try to make money. The union workers eventually become aware that they

The Ontological Argument By Anselm
I will begin my paper by discussing the two major versions of the ontological argument by Anselm
presented in the proslogion. The first being Possible and actual existence , and the second being
Contingent or Necessary . One should start off with the first summarized in the standard form as
follows: #1 It is a conceptual truth that God is a being than which none greater can be imagined. #2
God exists as an idea in the mind. #3 A being that exists as an idea in the mind and in reality is, other
things being equal, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. #4 Thus, if God exists
only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something that is greater than God. #5 But we cannot
imagine something that is greater than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[Ia] Unfortunately to properly render a complete discussion of the ontological argument One must
begin by defining a few keywords. Definitions for P2 are as follows. first, conceptual truth: something
that can be understood or perceived by the use of reason or imagination. Second, a being: one s basic
nature, or the qualities thereof; essence or personality[3]. Third, greater: of ability, quality, or
eminence considerably above the normal or average [4]. Forth, imagined: form a mental image or
concept of [4]. Fifth, Idea: a thought or suggestion as to a possible course of action [4]. Sixth, mind:
the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and
to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought [4]. Definitions for P3 are as follows. Seventh, actual:
existing in fact; typically as contrasted with what was intended, expected, or believed [4]. Eighth,
existence: the fact or state of living or having objective reality. Ninth, contingent: occurring or existing
only if certain other circumstances are the case; dependent on [4]. Tenth, necessary: present; needed;
essential [4]. Due to the nature of definitions, I will not give an argument for the lack of implied
meanings.
[IIa] For P2 axioms #1 and #3 appears that using a loose form of relativism the argument holds.
For axiom #2 its entirety is an assumption that is to be disproved. Axioms #4 6 are logical deductions
from Axioms #1 through #3. For P3

The Exodus Source Analysis Essay
The Exodus
In this source analysis paper I will be analyzing the Bible, specifically Exodus, to explore the Israelite
people during their time of wandering from Egypt to the Promised Land and why it took them so long
to reach their destination. It will also touch on Moses and his descendants and reason as to why he was
able to look at the land, but unable to go and live there.
To give a brief description, Exodus is a Greek word that translates to departure or going out. A large
chunk of Exodus as well as Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy follow the Israelites in their
departure from Egypt to the Promised Land under the leadership of Moses (Coogan and Redmount
2001, 58). This story has become an important moment in the Israelite faith as ... Show more content

much to stop them so he then ordered that all newborn Hebrew boys should be killed which is where
Moses comes in. After being hidden in the Nile river and found by Pharaoh s daughter, he was raised

MGM Grand is the world s major and leading resorts and Casino Company that owns and operates 24
points within The USA. In all MGM Resorts, the main aim is to provide high quality customer
services in all facilities around the world so as to enhance shareholder value and sustainability.
According to Hair et al. (2008), customer s behaviors on selecting a hotel is normally affected by the
hotel services and products. Thus, MGM Resorts ensures that it offers the best products and services
to meet or even exceed the customer s expectations to attract more customers. Promotion and
advertising normally play the role of the communicator between the company and consumers. In this
report, I discuss the promotional strategies that MGM Resort International use and the competitive
advantage, the company gains with respect to promotion.

Similarities Between Kfc And Mcdonalds
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of the following report is to compare the contribution towards social responsibility of two
competing fast food franchises in South Africa, namely KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and
McDonald s.
This comparative study will give insight into background information concerning the two franchises:
how they were formed, their mission, their vision, as well as their objectives. The background
information will then be followed by a comparative study of how both franchises contribute towards
social responsibility in the form of charity contributions, scholarships and sport sponsorship.
The Companies Act has been incorporated with sections of the King Code to form what is known as
integrated reporting. It stipulates that in order for a business to be successful, it must understand the
economic, social and environmental context it operates in. Nowadays, company success is not solely
based the amount of profit earned, but it includes how the business contributes in society, a term
known as corporate citizenship. This study will evaluate the corporate citizenship of both franchises to
compare their fairness, transparency, responsibility and accountability when dealing with society as a
whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

responsibility, as well as its

to preliteracy development (Parent involvement, 78). There are times when the parents want to be

American Tobacco Advertising History
Throughout American history, tobacco has been a prominent feature in carving the landscape of this
nation s civilization and culture. From Native American medicine to snuff to pipe cigars, tobacco has
permeated the history of the United States in multiple forms. However, no tobacco product has been
more integral to modern American culture than the cigarette a relatively young commodity, in contrast
to its predecessors. The birth of the cigarette was the gateway to modern American advertising and
consumer culture. The cigarette s American journey has been an intensive one, from its beginnings in
the late 1800s as a modest, unpopular offshoot in the Duke Sons. tobacco company to its rise to
cultural acclaim in the mid twentieth century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wealthy stars smoked the same brands as the most hard hit, poverty stricken men and women. The ad,
The Height of Good Taste, likely exploited this oneness. The beautiful woman depicted was not just

become much more important. Related experience includes internships, projects, and research

that you are interested in learning more about what you are doing or about learning new things.
Another interesting idea that was discussed was about the outcome of an internship. An outcome of an

History And Outlook Of A Popular Chain Coffee Shop, Starbucks

Business School, focuses on the history and outlook of a popular chain coffee shop, Starbucks. By
discussing a brief history of the café brand and its rise and fall through the economic crisis of 2008, it
was clear that the company managed so proficiently due to strategic moves made by leadership. The
article explored how the company centered it focus on its consumers and building itself a priority spot
in the community by utilizing customer opinions and social media. In fact, by doing so, the
corporation not only survive the 2008 economic downfall, but thrived to become of the innovative
leaders of the 21st century (Lemus, Feingenblatt, Orta, Rivero, 2015.) By executing strategic moves in
five phases, the company bounced back to become a main staple in everyday life. Starbucks is present
in 50 states in the US and 43 countries. It is one of the most respected brands, winning awards such as
Best Business , Most Admired Company , 100 Best Corporate Citizens and so on (Husain, Khan,

The Evolution Of Hip Hop Music
When hip hop first emerged in the streets of New York in the 1970s, nobody predicted that this new
type of sound would become as admired and widespread as it has become. This new genre of music
has encouraged and motivated numerous artists from not just the United States, but elsewhere to
integrate their own originality and create a new sound that several audiences can enjoy throughout. I
started to pay attention to Puerto Rican rap group Calle 13 when I first heard their song Atreve Te Te .
This track had a different sound and lyrical content from other songs that were playing on the radio
during this time. It incorporated a Colombian Cumbia sound as well as Spanglish in their lyrics, which
other singles in the radio were not integrating.

This definitely shows courage because back in that time you weren t allowed to travel across the

  • 2. Essay on Biography of Michael Phelps Credibility is an important characteristic to have. How credible you are means how trustworthy and reliable you are. I think my athletic trainer is credible. He is good at what he does and always knows how to help anyone who is injured so I trust he knows what he is doing. If he never knew what to do and could not help you he would not be a very credible athletic trainer. This shows that your actions can affect your credibility. I think Michael Phelps is a credible person when it comes to swimming. He was very successful though his credibility took a hit when he was pictured holding a marijuana pipe (Crouse). Phelps was born to his parents, Fred and Debbie, on June 30, 1985 (JockBio: Michael Phelps Biography). He has two sisters, Whitney ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Phelps also won a gold medal in 800 meter freestyle relay, 200 meter individual medley, 200 meter freestyle, and the 400 meter freestyle relay. Michael Phelps made history by breaking the record of seven gold medals in one Olympics by winning eight (JackBio: Michael Phelps Biography). These Olympics made Michael Phelps a celebrity. He became known by many because he was an amazing swimmer. Kids looked up to Phelps wanting to be like him someday. Three months after his history making swims in Beijing, Michael Phelps was caught with a glass pipe, or bong, that is used for smoking marijuana (Papa). A picture of Phelps holding the pipe and looking like he was smoking was published in a British newspaper in 2009 (Crouse). The picture was taken while he was at a party (Papa). Phelps did not ever admit to smoking marijuana but did apologize (Mail Foreign Service). He said I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgement ... For this, I am sorry (Papa). Phelps still got punished. He was banned from competing in any swimming competitions for three months by USA Swimming (Mail Foreign Service). Along with the suspension there was also a withdrawal of financial support for Phelps (Mail Foreign Service). • 3. The Definition Of Obscenity And Obscenity Laws Constructed... Obscenity revolves around what constitutes pornography and sexually explicit material to be protected by the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and press as stated in the Constitution. I want to look at the language and definitions of obscenity created by the Supreme Court and interrupt their effects on society. In this essay, I want to argue that the creation of the definition of obscenity and obscenity laws constructed from community standards can be harmful to society because they can be interrupted in many different ways. First, I would like to define terms of what obscenity means and the differences between obscenity, vulgarity, and profanity. Obscenity, as defined by the Supreme Court case of Miller v. California, believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a legal context, obscenity describes expressions that are typically sexual or crude references to the body or bodily functions that offend the sexual morality of a given time and place. Even though, this creates a gray are between something considered profane or vulgar language and/or behavior and obscenity because profanity and vulgarity can offend the sexual morality as well. Nonetheless, the First Amendment of the Constitution does not protect behavior, actions, or language seen specifically as obscene. Next, I would like to explore at what point or context does something turn from being considered profane and/or vulgar into being considered obscene and therefore, against the law. In Roth v. US, the court held that obscenity was not within the area of constitutionally protected speech or press . The Supreme Court made it clear in the ruling that the First Amendment did not protect every behavior, action, or expression, such as materials that were utterly without redeeming social importance . The Supreme Court believed the definition of obscenity as stated in the above paragraph gave a fair warning to the public and satisfied the demands of the Due Process clause in the Fourteenth Amendment. • 5. A Patient With Respiratory Acidosis Essay a) In a patient with respiratory acidosis, the partial pressure of CO2 in the plasma (PCO2) rises above normal levels of 40 mmHg (1). Airway resistance due to asthma, respiratory depression due to drug use as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease all cause hypoventilation, lowering partial pressure of plasma oxygen (PO2) to below its normal value of approximately 100 mm Hg (1) and can lead to respiratory acidosis. The equation below describes the equation between CO2 and H2O with H+ and HCO3 . According to the law of mass action, all reactions tend towards equilibrium, and any disturbance in the amount of any of the products or reactants will shift the reaction in a direction which leads to re establishment of equilibrium. If CO2 concentration rises, the new chemical equilibrium will favour further production of both H+ and HCO3 through disassociation of H2CO3. Each additional molecule of CO2 would lead to production of one molecule of H+ and HCO3 . 〖CO〗_2+H_2 O→ H_2 CO^3→H^++HCO_3^ (1). Production of H+ will cause plasma pH to fall below 7.4. Normally, increases in H+ concentrations are buffered mostly by haemoglobin, however buffers can only resist small changes in pH. The HCO3 levels increase slightly, but are likely to still remain within normal levels of 22 to 26 mEq/L. This is because equilibrium changes in concentrations is slight compared to the large compensatory changes (1). Renal mechanisms can assist in excreting H+ and reabsorbing HCO3 . ... • 7. Use of language and Word Choice in My Last Duchess Essay My Last Duchess by Robert Browning is a dramatic monologue in which the Duke of Ferrara is discussing the matter of a dowry with an emissary sent by a Count. The use of dramatic monologue allows the poet to subtly reveal the personality of the persona to the reader. The language used by the speaker allows the poet to evoke strong emotions in the reader. The reader is given an early insight into the personality of the Duke in the very first line of the monologue: That s my last Duchess painted on the wall This early impression portrays the Duke as a very sophisticated man with a wealth of knowledge in art. This impression is continued when he mentions the very artist who painted the Duchess, Fra Pandolf . However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This manner is not only continued, but emphasised further still when the Duke reverts to the subject of money, discussing the situation with the dowry . This shows how superficial and indeed shameful a person the Duke is. This shameful personality is brought out further still by the poet s use of rhyme and rhythm, the very heart of the poem. The poet s use of style represents the Duke himself the poem has many example of rhyme, for example Paint and Faint and, Durst and First this would suggest that the persona was articulate. However, this is shown to be nothing more than a façade in the way in which the lines of the poem run together, showing that the poet is not as skilled in language as he would like to make out: but/thanked/Somehow The Duke here is seen to be struggling to express himself, showing his lack of skill in language and emphasising that he has tried to create a false impression of himself. Even the rhythm of the poem, iambic pentameter, which is very regular and basic, reflects the simplicity of the speaker himself, in terms of his linguistic ability. The manner in which the Duke tries to cover up this limited ability emphasises his superficiality. However, it is the poet s clever use of word choice which is most effective in revealing the Duke s personality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Breitbart New Right There is a growing sentiment that nationalist and conservative political parties are increasing in popularity and influence around the world. While this may be true to some extent, it is arguably the rise of the New Right that is gaining significant momentum in surging popularity and influence at this current time. While it is easy to suggest that nationalist, populist, conservative and even fascism is becoming more mainstream and acceptable in modern society, it is important that the New Right is differentiated from the current group of right leaning politics. This paper will identify and discuss what is the new right and what makes it different from other forms of the political right, as well as examining the cause and as contributing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of social media from the left and right are noticeably different. Brooker and Barnett (2017) observed that those who were drawn to social justice politics tended to use insults as opposed to engaging in a serious debate. This itself has created a stigma for socialists who don t support and even oppose identity politics, but are associated with those using identity politics, similar to how the new and alt right are often stated to be one of the same. And it is identity politics that s arguably drawing the forgotten people to these alternative sources of information and humour. The ideology of political correctness is identified by young people as censorship and suppression, comparable to totalitarianism. It is for this reason why the new and alt right have made significant inroads in the social media space. Traditional media repressed what those on the right call freedom of speech, thus forcing individuals to search other places, predominantly online where their voices, concerns and opinions can be ... Marais, H.C., 1990) He suggested several ideas to ensure that classroom setting will adapt to inclusive education. One, classrooms need one main rule respect one another. After this, if students and teachers create interesting curriculum with materials that matter in the students lives, then students will be interested, involved and focused on what they have designed. Two, teachers need excellent observational skills to determine what caused a behavioral problem. Three, structure the environment so students are actively engaged and motivated. That will be good teaching for all students. This will involve collaboration and networking. It also means the teacher is not always in control, but is a member of the team of problem solvers including the parents, the students and the other teachers. Lastly, common strategies ... • 13. Compare and Contrast Essay of Rikki Tikki Tavi Many people assume that the book and movie of the same story are always very similar, but they are incorrect. In my comparison of the short story Rikki tikki tavi by Rudyard Kipling and the movie of Rikki tikki tavi, I found them to be rather different. There were many minor differences, but the three main topics in the short story that clearly differentiate it from the movie are the setting, the character traits, and the use of humor. The setting in the movie differs from the setting in the short story in a few ways. The setting in the movie dives into larger detail in many of the scenes such as in the beginning flood scene. From the very beginning, the character traits in the movie differ from those portrayed in the short story. The ways in which they differ include the various switched roles of characters and other aspects including age and clothing. One of the switched roles is right in the beginning of the movie when the father lifts up Rikki from the sand, whereas in the short story the mother picks him up. Another switched role would be when Darzee s wife explains what happened to their baby egg that was eaten by Nag, but in the short story Darzee does the explaining. One last switched role I came across was how Nag is the instigator who wanted to take over the garden, but in the story it is Nagaina. Some other differences include the age of Teddy and the clothing of the family. In the short story, Rudyard Kipling creates Teddy as a young toddler, using words such as nursery to describe the room where he sleeps, but in the movie Teddy appears to be almost ten years old with his fancy clothing and tall height. Surprisingly, the family in the movie wears very nice, neat clothing. This is surprising because of the way Rudyard Kipling describes the setting. With sand, dirt, and a garden, you would presume that it would be a humid climate, which would result in the wearing of sandals and shorts. However, in the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three aspects of the gun stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size of the gun itself. The design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one. My rifle, in my opinion, has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of the gun, it was sleek, natural camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at the metal parts, and this matte finish of black really matched the stock, which gave it my attention as I focused on it at first glance. The barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp after constant heating through the violent explosion of the cartridge as the bullets races through the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements were just as important. At the time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. Perhaps the greatest need of many returning veterans is assistance in addressing psychological and social problems associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, or multiple physical injuries (Ford, Northrup, Wiley, 2009). While, historically, community colleges are charged with serving those outside traditional student populations, it is imperative that institutions of higher education recognize and plan for military and veteran student needs. Many combat veterans return with mental health needs that can complicate educational achievement. In addition to specific disorders such as traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder, combat veterans experience psychosocial disruption as they rapidly transition from the role from warrior to that of student. • 18. Plato s Views On The Virtue Of The Virtues Essay As far as I am concerned, the result is that I know nothing, for when I don t know what justice is, I ll hardly know whether it is a kind of virtue or not, or whether a person who has it is happy or unhappy (Republic 354c) Plato presents Socrates as believing in the unity of the virtues, skeptical of those who, like Meno, wish to treat the virtues as distinct objects of inquiry in dialogues such as Laches, Protagoras, Meno, the Republic, and Euthyphro. These dialogues provide good reason to deny that Plato s Socrates believed in the numerical identity of the virtues. I shall argue that in the various virtues is one essence (or virtue ), as revealed in a conceptual search for definitional clarity and a metaphysical appeal to Form that encompasses innumerous virtues. I. For Socrates, an adequate definition will reveal the common quality that belongs to both all and only; and necessarily and sufficiently, instances of the virtue that is being defined. In Euthyphro, Socrates addresses these definitional issues by criticizing the paradox presented in the dialogue as follows: And so Euthyphro, when you re asked what the pious is, it looks as though you don t want to reveal its being to me, but rather to tell me one of its affections that this happens to the pious, that its loved by all the gods (Euthyphro 11a). The first being Possible and actual existence , and the second being Contingent or Necessary . Second, a being: one s basic nature, or the qualities thereof; essence or personality[3]. Third, greater: of ability, quality, or eminence considerably above the normal or average [4]. Forth, imagined: form a mental image or concept of [4]. Fifth, Idea: a thought or suggestion as to a possible course of action [4]. Sixth, mind: the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought [4]. Definitions for P3 are as follows. Seventh, actual: existing in fact; typically as contrasted with what was intended, expected, or believed [4]. Eighth, existence: the fact or state of living or having objective reality. Ninth, contingent: occurring or existing only if certain other circumstances are the case; dependent on [4]. Tenth, necessary: present; needed; essential [4]. Due to the nature of definitions, I will not give an argument for the lack of implied meanings. [IIa] For P2 axioms #1 and #3 appears that using a loose form of relativism the argument holds. For axiom #2 its entirety is an assumption that is to be disproved.
