Disadvantages Of Nanotechnology Essay
To understand the limitations and drawbacks of conventional drug delivery systems
To understand different nanotechnology methods used in drug delivery systems
To understand the advantages and disadvantages of nanotechnology based drug delivery
To understand the future scope of nanotechnology based drug delivery studies and advancements.
1. Present Day Drug Delivery Systems
Drug delivery is always referred to new approaches, formulations, technologies and systems that help
in transporting an active ingredient which is found to have pharmacological importance safely to
result in desired therapeutic effects. Specific site targeting systems are very essential in achieving so.
Otherwise, it might involve facilitating systemic pharmacokinetics. In drug delivery, there are two
parameters that are mostly concerned which include the quantity of drug used and the ... Show more

Lacunae of Present Day Drug Delivery System
Some of the serious lacunae in the current drug delivery systems are as follows:
a. A reduced loading and therapeutic effect due to partial degradation of the drug before it reaches its
destination is a major concern. For example, a drug administered orally may undergo changes in the
stomach due to the action of gastric enzymes. Drugs administered through enteral routes undergo a
first pass effect, which is the term used for the hepatic metabolism of a pharmacological agent when it
is absorbed from the gut and delivered to the liver via the portal circulation. These processes lead to
premature drug loss due to drug metabolism and rapid clearance from the body.
b. A lack of targeting ability is yet another major disadvantage of many drugs. When a drug is
administered parenterally, it is distributed to all parts of the human body through the bloodstream,
rather than to the specific target organ which needs the pharmacological treatment. Biochemical and
physiological barriers of certain organs also limit drug delivery to the specified organ, like the human

What impact did the Vikings have on North Britain
What impact did the Vikings have on North Britain?
Shortly before the ninth century, North west Europe was exposed to raids and attacks from the
Scandinavians. They had discovered the wealth that could be obtained from the richer communities of
Britain and Frankia, both in currency and natural resources (the latter being found especially in
Ireland). As time went on, during the course of the ninth century, the leaders of the attacks on these
countries grew more ambitious and soon there were different motives for raiding these places. Many
leaders had become content to stay and settle permanently in these abundantly richer countries. This
process of Viking settlement led to the integration of two cultures, between the peoples of the ... Show

Soon after, Orkney, Shetland and the majority of the western Isles had fallen to the new Scandinavian
settlers. In 839, the Vikings had enjoyed a major victory in which the King of Fortriu, Eogan mac
Oengusa and the King of Dal Riata, Aed mac Boanta were both killed in battle. In 867 the Vikings had
seized control of Northubria forming the Kingdom of York . Which is also mentioned in the Annals of
Ulster; The dark foreigners won a battle over the northern Saxons at York. Approximately three years
after, Dunbarton was also taken over as well, leaving a newly combined Pictish and Gaelic kingdom
which had been brought together by Cinead mac Alpin ( or more commonly known as Kenneth Alpin),
leaving the Kingdom almost entirely encircled by the new Scandinavian settlers
The usual perception of Vikings plays reference to their role mainly as raiders, being disruptive and
destructive. However conquerors and colonists made a more positive contribution by encouraging
commerce, the growth of towns and re shaping political structures. We can see this by the fact that
much of North England had been

The Historical Context Of Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus

Tamora: Gender Constructs in Titus Andronicus
In Shakespeare s plays it is important to understand the historical context of women in the Elizabethan
Age and their role. The Shakespearean era consisted of a misogynistic and patriarchal society which
contrasted with Queen Elizabeth being the head of the state. Even though the most important person in
England was a woman, the common woman was still very limited in her power and in her
independence. Women in this era were dependent on men socially, economically and sexually.
Married women were not allowed to be in the public without their husbands, they were bound to the
domestic area. Women in general were believed to be less rational than men and always needed male
protection and guidance. As they were thought to be incapable of caring for themselves, it was the
men s duty to control their sexuality; the father had to guarantee that his daughter marries as a virgin
and the husband had to control his wife so she would only bear his children. Economically women
were dependent on men because they were not allowed to have their own business or be involved in
trade. They were seen as objects of bartering that men traded with and treated as if they were property.
Women were believed to be passive objects, this idea of male dominance above women is represented
in theology and philosophy and even supported by medical science: The fact that female sex organs
were inside was

The Strict Liability Theory
The Strict Liability Theory Introduction Strict Liability in simplistic terms can imply an individual or
company being liable for their deeds, conducts and outcomes that result in damages to others. A
personal complaint of injury for a strict liability case is not as a consequence of a foreplanned action
or careless deed (Boatright, 2012). The respondent s action should have triggered strict liability and
that the complainant suffered harm. In fact, one cannot understand what strict liability in the criminal
law means, in the same token understand why it is considered unorthodox and morally dyslogistic.
The respondent s responsibility and blameworthiness, or mental fault should be evaluated and, more
particularly, the usual relevance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the owner knew or should have recognized the animal s specific solicitude (Alabama injury
law advisor, 2009). In a case involving a domestic animal, the owner is most certainly liable only if he
has prior knowledge that his animal has dangerous behaviors and mannerisms. The First bite rule
states that the owner is accountable for the second occasion that his animal bites somebody, but not
the first instance it bites. Aberrantly Dangerous Activity Strict liability is a certainty for all such
activities that involve more or less so substantial risk of harm in their functionality and performance.
If the respondent engages in any array of activities and fortuitously and non negligently causes harm
to the complainant, he or she is strictly liable. Must be remembered, this is subject to a few limitations
that are beyond the jurisdiction of Strict Liability Theory. Essentially, abnormally dangerous activities
include all activities related to nuclear reactors, explosives, crop spraying and many others (Cantú,
2002). At present, for ascertaining the extent to which an activity is abnormally dangerous, the courts
focus their emphasis on the following factors. Firstly, the high degree of risk of harm to person or
property. Secondly, the attributable gravity of the damage to the activity and whether a party
responsible cannot perform the activity with complete safety. Moreover, the limits to which the
activity is

Animal Welfare Vs Animal Rights
These alternatives, once studied enough to be credible, could change the face of animal testing.
Unfortunately according to the John Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, scientists say
we simply do not yet understand the complexities of the human body well enough to be able to design
suitable non animal alternatives (Shany 85). This means millions of animals will be killed in the years
to come, but hopefully we take the time to find a safe alternative. Once an alternative becomes
available, we will be able to reduce the number of animals killed each year during testing. Animal
welfare vs. animal rights is another big aspect of the animal testing controversy. You may think that
both groups are for the same thing, but they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may come as a surprise to some, because the advances from animal testing are relatively
unknown. Many medical advances have been found because of animal testing, including penicillin,
blood transfusions, insulin (that controls blood sugar levels of diabetics), kidney transplants, and
vaccines for polio and meningitis (Shany 84). These treatments and vaccines would not have been
discovered if animal testing had not been used. Not only have treatments and vaccines been found for
humans, but treatments for animals have been too, such as the vaccines for rabies, anthrax, feline
leukemia, and canine parvo virus (Shany 84). All of these medicines and treatments have been found
through animal testing, and the world would be in bad shape if they hadn t found the treatment for

The Impact Of Arena On The Beginnings Of The Civil War
First, thank you very much for following the advice set out in my last memo. Through a coordinated
media campaign focussed on clarifying the role of ARENA in the beginnings of the civil war, we ve
been able to secure a small but consistent advantage over our FMLN opponents. However, according
to the research that my team and I have conducted, this advantage is very fragile. While El Salvadoran
voters have communicated to us that they do not blame ARENA for the start of the conflict, there is
more confusion about the role of the party during the height of the war in the 1980s. Therefore, this
memo will be divided into three parts: first, a surface level history of the conflict through the 1980s;
second, potential academic explanations for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magaña s Presidency took an active and purposeful role in opposing the FMLN guerrillas through
attacks on the group s primarily peasant base and support network. From 1981 to 1983, it is estimated
that at least 18,000 civilians were killed by government forces. Many of these deaths were the result of
air force bombings of peasants trying to flee across the Honduras border or massacres committed by
government infantry groups against FMLN friendly villages such as El Mozote in December 1981.
Paramilitary death squads were also incredibly active during this time period, at one point killing six
members of the opposition Christian Democratic Party (PDC), resulting in a condemnation of the
Magaña government by PDC leader José Napoleón Duarte. The second phase of the conflict,
following the election of Duarte and the PDC in the 1984 5 elections, resulted in a reduction in
government violence against civilians and attempts, although ultimately unsuccessful, to reach a peace
between the FMLN and government. The US backed Duarte, who defeated ARENA leader Roberto d
Aubuisson amid allegations of electoral fraud, became the first civilian President in forty years.
Political murders declined significantly during his administration, although there were still civilian
deaths in combat zones and mass displacement concerns amounting to around 1500 deaths per year.

Similarities And Differences Of Banquets In The...
Research Paper
Have you ever wondered how banquets from the Elizabethan Era are similar and different from today
s era? Everyday life in the Elizabethan Era was amazing; however, banquets and inventions were the
same as how we live today. This paper will explain the different events and similarities and differences
from now and the Elizabethan Era .
In the Elizabethan Era there were many big feasts and festivals. Some feasts were for the queen and
many other royals .These banquets and feast were very different from today. The average family in the
21st century eats one meal; however in the Elizabethan Era people ate five different course meals at
their banquets and feasts. Some of the foods that were served: a quarter stag, a stuffed ... Show more

In Elizabethan Era their audiences in their theater were filled like some of our movie theaters today.
Their performances were mostly given in the afternoon. Except in this century people mostly go to
movies at night time. Their movies would last two or three hours just like today s theater.
At some of these theater shows in the Elizabethan Era there were many different artist. Queen
Elizabeth even made up some of the arts herself. Some of the artist that painted portraits of Queen
Elizabeth was Hans Holbein, and Nicholas Hillard. Hillard painted a mini portrait of Queen Elizabeth
in 1952. Hillard painted most of his portraits from Henry s courtiers .Most of these paintings were
brought before Queen Elizabeth at these banquets and feasts that were held. These two artists got their
ideas from the European Renaissance.
In the painting that Hillard painted in 1572, he painted Queen Elizabeth in a piece of clothing they
called a ruff. The Elizabethan Era clothing style is something you wouldn t see anyone wearing in the
21st century. In the 2000s people wore jeans and shirts and casual jackets. In the Elizabethan Era
women wore gowns, corsets, and ruffs. Men wore doublets, breeches, and ruffs as

Taking a Look at Existentialism
Existentialism when looked in a dictionary means a philosophical theory or approach which
emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their
development through acts of the will. This theory emphasizes on the existence of man as an individual
and how every choices exerted by him determines a different course of action for him. Existentialism
when looked in a lexicon implies a philosophical hypothesis or methodology which accentuates the
presence of the distinctive individual as a free and capable executor deciding their particular
advancement through demonstrations of the will. This hypothesis accentuates on the presence of man
as a singular and how every decisions pushed by him decides an alternate approach for him.
Existentialism is a philosophical viewpoint that anxieties the imperativeness of unrestrained choice,
opportunity of decision, and moral obligation. This viewpoint underlines the exceptional encounters of
every person and the obligation of every individual for their decisions and what they make of
themselves. Since it picked up ubiquity at the end of the second world war , the expression
existentialism has basically been connected with a social development that developed out of the
wartime scholarly air of the Left Bank in Paris and spread through fiction and symbolization to the
extent that logic. The hypothetical and different compositions of Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de
Beauvoir, Albert Camus, and Frantz

Nicu Case Studies
INTRODUCTION It is common consensus that the levels of light and noise in a Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU) ward has always been and presently unacceptable, although historically there has
been ongoing debate about the exact level and type of impact this environment has on preterm infants
in terms of their sleep patterns and neuropsychological development. There has been some support by
substantial research that has previously found stimulation in the NICU has a detrimental effect on the
development, growth and quality of sleep of infants. Long term implications have also been found to
have a negative effect on the motor and neurological functioning of preterm infants. However, other
studies argue that they had found no significant effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to provide premature babies with the many undisturbed rest hours they require for their
development, health and well being. The investigation was done by three different principal designers
and a team in three stages, understanding the problem (vision building), verifying (specifying) by
conducting a feasibility study, and project management (preparation for strict development). Despite
the positive results of many academic and company studies, several physicians reported in personal
communication that the actual sound levels at the ward has only changed marginally (if at all) over the
years. Sound levels at the NICU are problematic for the neonate infants, because noise is a direct
cause of long lasting auditory problems and a significant cause of neurologic impairment,
cardiovascular and respiratory problems. There were new technology measures proposed to minimise
or overcome these problems, including a central system connecting all medical equipment, centrally
controlled sound generating units with redesigned sounds and user interfaces. Despite only having
found two studies on the variable of movement, both researchers agreed that movement
(tactile/kinaesthetic stimulation) had positive effects on a range of developmental outcomes of preterm
infants. Only two studies suggested new solutions for this ongoing problem, but yet again none of
these have been tried, tested or proven in real cases. The fact that there are barely any studies done on
the variable of constant movement makes problems in this field of research even more challenging to
solve, hence the need for further interest and research on the specific variables of constant movement,
light and noise if we are going to provide and create a

Children Of Poverty And Poverty
Children Living in Poverty
Andrea Guzmán
California State University, Fullerton
I. NEEDS STATEMENT
Children who live in extreme poverty or who live below the poverty line for multiple years appear, all
other things being equal, to suffer the worst outcomes Income poverty is the condition of not having
enough income to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. Because children are dependent on
others, they enter or avoid poverty by virtue of their family s economic circumstances. Children
cannot alter family conditions by themselves, at least until they approach adulthood (Brooks Gunn
Duncan, 1997). A child living in poverty is a societal issue that affects society as a whole.

The Long Goodbye, By John T. Edge, And The Alternate World
Stranger Businesses
There are certain professions in this world that everyday people could not fathom working in. This
article discusses the businesses of a mortuary in The Last Stop by Brian Cable, meat manufacturing in
I m Not Leaving Until I Eat This Thing by John T. Edge, and the alternate world among female
prisoners in The Long Goodbye: Mother s Day in Federal Prison by Amanda Coyne. To each of these
businesses, characters or speakers face a fear of the unusual components that these fields hold. Finally,
the individuals in these stories are conflicted with reaching a resolution to these fears. Working or
owning a business entails a significant period of a person s life, where one undertakes training in order
to be paid for that profession. The Last Stop comprises of a tour around a mortuary and its dealings
with the dead. This business in particular, Goodbody Mortuaries, prepares the deceased for a casket

businesses because Throughout our lives, death remains intensely private (Cable 64). For this reason,
the actual notion of embalming a person we once loved captures a bizarre image. Together with I m

Tracking Pba Schedule
INTRODUCTORY SUMMARY
In the past two years, our company has consistently missed the release dates for our PBA (printed
board assembly) products. These missed releases have resulted in fines to the company, and extreme
customer dissatisfaction. We have had to reduce our workforce considerably over the past year, and in
the process, we have lost experienced employee talent. Middle management has accepted the
challenge to develop a PBA Design to Release Spreadsheet. This spreadsheet process will assist our
Research and Development organization in achieving the company s goal to honor its contractual
obligations to customers. Since budget cuts are in place, the spreadsheet will be developed based on
existing resources and work force. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once each group has agreed upon their responsibilities, the Team Lead will present the list to the Core
Team. In the past, when this kind of information has been collected, the biggest concern expressed
from all of the groups is the limited amount of time they have to complete their job efficiently. Their
main concern is limited personnel and resources. This spreadsheet tracking process will present a
work culture challenge in the way our teams approach their tasks.
CORE TEAM REVIEWS EACH GROUP S DEFINITION OF DUTIES
After each group has completed their list of tasks and timelines, the Core Team reviews the combined
results. The Core Team s goal is to evaluate the lists, and incorporate them into the final spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet will define the fundamental duties and timelines to complete for each group. The
ultimate goal is to get the product to the customer within eight months.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The logical approach is to start to perform the design work in parallel across groups, when practical.
This practice of concurrent engineering is commonly used by understaffed, schedule driven
companies. Using this method, each group can be working on their portion of the design, without
having to wait for the previous group to complete their portion. When the schedule of the PBA release
has been established, an excel spreadsheet is generated with each participant s responsibilities and
timelines.

Designing Of Plan Layout And Architecture Of House
CHAPTER:1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Brief Introduction: Now a days as development of buildings is
increasing and there is demand of designing of plan layout and architecture of house. Now sometimes
after the design is ready and house is build the client is not satisfied with the work as there is miss
interaction between designing and understanding of plan layout. Even contractors get confuse while
investing in big society just by looking at planning; like if the outcome of construction does not go as
good as design. People even get confuse while selecting the texture and colour of the houses they want
to build. To deal with these issues, recent research area projects includes few closely related areas of
computer discipline like Virtual Reality Architecture. Virtual Reality is a powerful new technology
with great opportunity to help contractors and architect for making their presentation of plan layout
better. This project focus on real time experience. User can view model of their property in virtual
reality. Here they get a walk through environment of the property they are planning to build. Even as it
is a new technology architect and contractor can satisfy and convince their customers more easily.
Even interior and texture of the house can be designed using this project. 1.2 Aim of the project: This
project aims for converting and viewing 3D model of houses into virtual reality for user. In this user

Environmental Questions Minerals Society uses metals that come from mineral deposits to make
buildings, pipes, wires, vehicles, and other products (Mathes, 2004). Other minerals are also used to
produce products, such as using clay for bricks, sulfur to make fertilizer and refine petroleum, and oil,
coal, and natural gas are used for energy. Metallic minerals are hard, contain their own shine or luster,
are ductile and malleable (capable of being hammered thin and extended without breakage), and do
not break when hit where non metallic minerals are just the opposite (Daga). An example of metallic
minerals is tin, which can be used to make cans to preserve food as well as other products. An
example of non metallic minerals is marble, used to make counter tops and decorative pieces. Mining
Depending on how deep into the earth the minerals are that are to be extracted, explosives are used to
blast rock into smaller pieces and heavy machinery brings it out of the earth from the tunnels that are
formed by the explosives. The minerals are then processed by a separation method to be refined into
products. The processing includes heating the metals after separation to temperatures that reach 1600
degrees to be formed. For metals that are on the surface of the earth, a process of booming is used
where water is collected into large reservoirs and discharged in large amounts to remove large
amounts of gravel in a thick mud state to show where the minerals are. For minerals

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Presidentialism
1. Introduction Since the Third Wave of Democratization, numerous developing countries have
undergone democratization. However, it has been a controversial topic on which constitutional
framework, i.e. Presidentialism or Parliamentarism, would serve better in bringing political stability to
these new democracies. While there s no doubt in my mind that Parliamentarism would be a better
choice for them, I believe that it needs to be operated under several necessary conditions. I will
explain about my rationale in the following paragraphs. 2. Definition of political stability Firstly,
frequency of social unrest , which can be demonstrated by activities such as civil strife, political

It is because under Presidentialism, a candidate may win the poll even if only a minority of voters pick
them as their ideal choice (Canello, 2012). That is even more likely in the new democracies in
developing countries, where there tends to have numerous major candidates in the election due to the
existence of multi party and lack of coordination between parties with similar background and
ideologies, unlike the U.S., that has a two party system with two well organized parties including the
Democrats and the Republicans, that are the political affiliations of nearly all the Americans. For
example, the first Egypt president Mohamed Morsi only won less than a one fourth of the votes in the
first round of the election in 2012 (Lynch and Stanglin, 2013). On the other hand, in Parliamentarism,

Example Of Conflict Theory
The conflict theory maintains that the law and policy regarding the justice system are tools used by the
people with the most political power to further their interests. Based on Marxist s social theory, the
conflict theory stresses how the people in power can manipulate the law or other legal policies to help
their agenda. An example of this would be the progressive police reform, in which it was a social
movement advocating progress, change, and reform in the police occupation (Progressive Police
Reform). In the 19th century, the police was seen as social workers and in order to implement the
social work role, they hired women officers. Female police officers believed that they should play a
helping role similar to that of being the mother at home. The greatest influence from the progressive
police reform was produced by August Vollmer, the chief of police in ... Show more content on

However, in more recent times, there has been numerous occasions where police officers have abused
their power and exhibited behavior that are not consistent to what they were trained. These police
officers have taken their power above their powers and in some people s opinions, above the law. In a
recent event, a man by the name of Eric Garner was placed in a chokehold by a New York police
officer. A video was taken of the episode and it clearly shows Mr. Garner struggling to breath and
screaming for his life. After several moments of constant, desperate cries for help, Eric Garner went
completely limp. Now, people have various translations of what occurred, but the main point of this is
that the police unnecessarily used excessive force on a man that was undoubtedly struggling for his

Analysis Of How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Let Me Count...
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Elizabeth Barrett Browning said that in her poem How do
I love thee? Let me count the ways. to show her love for her unnamed husband. She shows just from
that statement her love for him if she is willing to make a list solely for the ways she love him. If that
is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to
love her unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning
loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love of God and put
towards her love for him. Browning has just written about her obsession over her husband and how it
seems to be a problem with her day to day routine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If she only has candlelight then it should indicate that there is no light outside and that it is the
evening. So her meaning behind the quote is that she loves him from the morning to the evening. If
that isn t enough to sound a bit weird for somebody to love another person everyday. Browning
obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much?
¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...¨. The poem
is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for
this man. The quote states the ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints.¨ The love
that she lost is almost certainly the of God. When she says ¨lost saints¨ a saint is a person that has a
likeness are closeness to God. A person with exceptional holiness. So when she says that ¨lost saints¨ it
should mean her lost of love towards God. So when Browning writes ¨I love thee with a love I seemed
to lose¨ then it should mean that she loves him more than God, because it seems like she has replaced
her love towards God and replaced it with her love towards him. Putting the man in her mind at a God
like state or being. So if Browning loves this

Illegal Trafficking Is A Source, Transit, And Destination...
According to the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, Bangladesh is a source, transit, and
destination for human trafficking involving women, men, and children (1). Bangladeshi men and
women are lured into work under false pretenses within their own country or into neighboring
countries (2). A large proportion of cross border trafficking in Bangladesh is due to migration in
search of employment. Most are subjected to forced labor or forced prostitution (3).
Thousands of unreported children are trafficked from Bangladesh to other countries every year (2).
Children who are taken by traffickers often come from impoverished or isolated regions. The parents
are promised that their children will have a well paid job or a nice marriage (4). Impoverished and
desperate, they trust the offers, which ultimately lead their children to be exploited through trafficking
(7).
3) If this is a destination country and/or if there is internal human trafficking, which forms of
trafficking are common in this country? (If you think that there are no forms of trafficking happening
within this country, provide citations about that and some reasons why it is not happening. The reasons
don t have to be proven, but they must be plausible.)
Within the country, trafficked people are subjected to sex trafficking, domestic servitude, or forced
and bonded labor (7).
Girls are commonly trafficked into sexual exploitation or bonded servitude. The sexual exploitation of
boys is a fast growing issue in

First Opium War Research Paper
Good morning class and Mrs Bennett. The Hypothesis for this topic is that the First Opium War
caused problems in society because the criminal rate increased, as well as the local consumption of the
drug. This presentation will be discussing mainly what opium is, what the first opium war was, and
why it started. The Opium War was a battle in China that occurred during the mid 19th century. This
war was between western countries, such as Britain, and the Qing Dynasty, which ruled China
between 1644 and 1911.
The First Opium War was conducted from 1839 to 1842, and was between China and Britain. The
reasoning for the war occurring was caused by China s attempts to withhold the Opium trade. It was
over diplomatic relations, trade, and the administration of foreign nationals in China. Opium was
illegally being imported into China, through India, by the British. They grew the opium on their
plantations in India. At first, the British were addicted to stimulating Chinese tea. Trade imbalance
occurred due to the Chinese buying few European products and demanding Gold or Silver in return.
The reverse flow of Silver and the increasing number of opium addicts alarmed Chinese officials, and
resulted in over 20,000 chests of opium to be confiscated. As opium was being imported into china, it
caused unrest in society, the local consumption to increase, and the decrease in the price of the drug.
Being a stimulant drug, Opium spread throughout the country, badly affecting its nation. ... Show

Examples Of Achieved Statuses
An achieved status is acquired on the basis of merit; it is a position that is earned or chosen and
reflects a person s skills, abilities, and efforts. Examples of achieved statuses include one s profession.
An ascribed status, on the other hand, is one that is beyond an individual s control. It is not earned, but
rather something people are either born with or had no control over. Some ascribed statuses are race,
nationality, and sex. Important can be defined as having a significant positive impact on one s daily
life, more specifically, one s interactions with others. Based on these definitions, this essay will argue
that, to a large extent, the statuses achieved by an individual are more important than the ones ascribed
to an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, achieved statuses are more important than ascribed statuses as achieved statuses differentiates
people from one another, especially when they are taken into greater regard than ascribed statuses,
which then in turn affects other people s perception of them. One example of this is education in
Singapore, where the greater emphasis on one s results places the spotlight on individual
achievements. Students are judged by others based on how much they score for tests and what grades
they get. One of the first things family members ask students when they meet them is how they are
doing in school. Furthermore, there are programmes in Singapore that provide greater depth and
breadth of content for students, for which the students are selected based purely on merit and ability.
The Gifted Education Programme (GEP) is one such programme that aims to identify individuals who
are gifted and provide them with a more enriched programme. All students in the country take
selection tests in Primary 3 and the top 1% of the cohort is identified for the programme. The selection
test does not discriminate based on one s ascribed statuses, be it race, religion or nationality.

The Consumer Price Index For Education
Households are not captivating as much as they need for their respective sustenance of needs. In
Rolph s (2012) summary article outlining wages versus prices, and he claims the economy supposedly
gained 163,000 jobs in July 2012, and for those Americans lucky enough to have work, it may not be
enough. Incomes have risen over time from the 1970 s, but not at the same rate that the Consumer
Price Index has. As reported by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2014 in Poverty USA (2014), 47 million
people lived in poverty, which means the poverty rate for 2014 was 15%. The year before the 2008
recession, poverty rate had an increase of 2.3% by 2014 (Poverty USA, 2014). As many Americans

Despite this, the overall cost of food has continuously increased (USDA ERS Historical CPI,2014).
Prices for basic food groups such as, processed fruits, vegetables, eggs, dairy, and poultry have each
had their own changes in prices. From 2000 to 2014, eggs have had the greatest amount of price
increase, while sugar and sweets had one of the lowest. Not surprisingly, foods that are considered
healthy, like organic fruits and vegetables, have had a greater increase in price when compared to
nonorganic. This makes it harder for the average family to be able to afford to a nutritious diet (USDA

purchase goods and services that satisfy economic wants. Households have been seeing an increase in
their income over time. The empirical proof of that fact lies in several journals published by U.S.
Government Printing Office. In Selected Social and Economic Characteristics of Households Money

Lewis Base Research
Description
Everyday, we encounter solutions that can be classified as bases. What exactly is a base? A scientist
named Gilbert N. Lewis came up with the definition of a basic solution, which we now refer to as a
Lewis base, which we will discuss in this lesson.
!!!What Is a Lewis Base?
What makes a solution a base? Bases are solutions that are generally described as bitter and slippery
or slimy feeling. However, how can we tell in an acid base chemical reaction, which chemical
compound is a base? There are various definitions from different scientists on what a base is. In 1923,
a scientist named Gilbert N. Lewis came up with a definition of a base. This definition of a base is
now referred to as a Lewis base.

The anion (negatively charged hydroxide ion) acts as a Lewis base
!!!Lesson Summary
In 1923, Gilbert N. Lewis came up with the definition base, which we now refer to as Lewis base. A
__Lewis base__ is a compound that is an electron pair donor or a nucleophile, which is a substance
that donates electrons. In an acid base reaction, we can recognize the Lewis base as the compound that
donates its nonbonding electrons.
Lewis bases are typically compounds that contain nonbonding pairs. Phosphine (PH3), organic
compounds containing phosphorus (P), amines and anions act as Lewis bases because nonbonding
pairs are present in these compounds. These nonbonding pairs of electrons are then donated in an acid
base chemical reaction.

Neural Mechanisms in Controlling Eating Behaviour
Outline and evaluate the role of neural mechanisms in controlling eating behaviour (24 marks)
Today there is enormous interest in the psychological factors that can affects a person s eating habits,
but some of the clearest research findings have come from research into the brain (neural) mechanisms
controlling eating behaviour.
One important mechanism to consider is the role of homeostasis in all mammals. Homeostasis is how
the body maintains a constant internal environment. Our diet is essential to homeostasis as it provides
the nutrients that allow physiological processes to be regulated within narrow limits. The body has
evolved two separate systems one for turning eating on and one for turning eating off . Glucose levels

The protein leptin is produced in response to satiation which is secreted into the bloodstream from fat
tissue, leading to fat loss and decreased appetite. To support the role of this protein, Zhang et.al
injected two copies of the gene for obesity into some mice and these ob/ob mice had a tendency to
overeat. They discovered that the ob/ob mice had a defective gene for the protein leptin and were
unable to experience a decrease in appetite as well as fat loss. However, injecting these mice with
leptin caused them to lose weight dramatically. This shows how proteins also have a role in
controlling our eating behaviour and not only neural mechanisms.
Moreover, thinking about a food makes us feel hungry but also food related smells and sights. The
neural control of these cognitive factors in hunger probably originates in the main brain area the
amygdala and the inferior prefrontal cortex. The amygdala plays a role in selecting foods based on
previous experience. To support this, Rolls and Rolls found that surgically removing the amygdala in
rats would cause the animals to consume both familiar and novel foods indiscriminately, whereas
amygdala intact rats would initially avoid novel foods and consume only the more palatable familiar
foods instead. This suggests how our previous experience in eating certain foods alters what we eat
due to the role of the amygdala processing such

Ideally, I expect consistent quality throughout all the sections of the report. You need to leave enough

clearly identified. The following details must be on the front of all assignments: Name: Student
Number: Assignment Name: Subject Code/Name: Lecturer/Tutor: Due Date: Date Submitted: It is
recommended that students KEEP A COPY OF ALL WORK SUBMITTED. While it is extremely rare
for student work to be misplaced, it does sometimes occur. The onus is on you to prove that a piece of

Failure to take care of these matters causes confusion and ambiguity. Ask someone to read and

whites. As mentioned in the beginning of the story, Mr. Williams was born February 28, 1929 in

Career and Technical Education in High School: Does it Improve Student Outcomes?
Problem
Career and Technical Education (CTE) or vocational education provides preparation and skill building
for careers. Some high school students will enter the workforce without additional training, but many
will receive secondary CTE professional certifications. The goal of CTE is to connect students with
growing industries in the American economy and give them the skills and training required for long
term success. However, little is known about CTE. Therefore, students lack access to high quality
secondary CTE.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the students who participated in CTE especially
those concentrating by taking a sequence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2. Does greater exposure to CTE improve education and employment outcomes (high school
graduation, college enrollment, employment status, and wages)? (nondirectional)
3. Does CTE concentration (taking a sequence of three or more courses in an occupationally aligned
program of study ) have benefits for students? Do certain students benefit more than others?
(nondirectional)
Research Methods The author uses associational research to investigate relationships between taking
CTE courses and improving outcomes for those students. He used causal comparative methodologies
to compare students who participated in CTE and students that did not.
Subjects Involved This study follows three cohorts of students those who started ninth grade in 2008,
2009, and 2010 (the high school classes of 2012 through 2014) from ninth grade through the year after
they should have graduated high school. These cohorts include over 100,000 individual students and
more than 350,000 student year observations. More specifically, all of these students are enrolled in
Arkansas high schools. This study includes all students in Arkansas that are enrolled in CTE courses.

Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway
Nick is a World War I veteran who, as many veterans, suffers from emotional trauma that his
experiences from the war left him with. Multiple scenes throughout the story, Big Two Hearted River,
relates to Nick, the main character s, journey toward recovery. Nick describes his surroundings in way
that parallels to his own experiences and current voyage in respect to his revival.. He takes a calming
adventure saturated with calming natural paths over hills, through woodland, and along a river to find
peace with himself and to return to his prewar state of mind. As Nick sets off on his journey, he comes
to a river in which he observes in a way that relates to his own advancing expedition: It swirled
against the log spiles of the bridge. Nick looked down into the clear, brown water, colored from the
pebbly bottom and watched the trout keeping themselves steady in the current with wavering fins. As
he watched them they changed their position by quick angles, only to hold steady in the fast water
again. (Hemingway 177) This scene is Nick s first inspiration for how he should go about recovering.
The trouts literal state in the water mirrors Nick s emotional state and recovery process. There are
rapid waters all around the fish, which compares to the rough emotional condition that Nick is facing.
Nick notices how the trout change positions and push again the swirling current in order to stay
steadily on the right track. Nick can use this to understand that he must change his own

Disadvantages Of Nanotechnology Essay To understand the limitations and drawbacks of conventional drug delivery systems To understand different nanotechnology methods used in drug delivery systems To understand the advantages and disadvantages of nanotechnology based drug delivery To understand the future scope of nanotechnology based drug delivery studies and advancements. 1. Present Day Drug Delivery Systems Drug delivery is always referred to new approaches, formulations, technologies and systems that help in transporting an active ingredient which is found to have pharmacological importance safely to result in desired therapeutic effects. Specific site targeting systems are very essential in achieving so. Otherwise, it might involve facilitating systemic pharmacokinetics. In drug delivery, there are two parameters that are mostly concerned which include the quantity of drug used and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lacunae of Present Day Drug Delivery System Some of the serious lacunae in the current drug delivery systems are as follows: a. A reduced loading and therapeutic effect due to partial degradation of the drug before it reaches its destination is a major concern. For example, a drug administered orally may undergo changes in the stomach due to the action of gastric enzymes. Drugs administered through enteral routes undergo a first pass effect, which is the term used for the hepatic metabolism of a pharmacological agent when it is absorbed from the gut and delivered to the liver via the portal circulation. These processes lead to premature drug loss due to drug metabolism and rapid clearance from the body. b. A lack of targeting ability is yet another major disadvantage of many drugs. When a drug is administered parenterally, it is distributed to all parts of the human body through the bloodstream, rather than to the specific target organ which needs the pharmacological treatment. Biochemical and physiological barriers of certain organs also limit drug delivery to the specified organ, like the human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What impact did the Vikings have on North Britain What impact did the Vikings have on North Britain? Shortly before the ninth century, North west Europe was exposed to raids and attacks from the Scandinavians. They had discovered the wealth that could be obtained from the richer communities of Britain and Frankia, both in currency and natural resources (the latter being found especially in Ireland). As time went on, during the course of the ninth century, the leaders of the attacks on these countries grew more ambitious and soon there were different motives for raiding these places. Many leaders had become content to stay and settle permanently in these abundantly richer countries. This process of Viking settlement led to the integration of two cultures, between the peoples of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon after, Orkney, Shetland and the majority of the western Isles had fallen to the new Scandinavian settlers. In 839, the Vikings had enjoyed a major victory in which the King of Fortriu, Eogan mac Oengusa and the King of Dal Riata, Aed mac Boanta were both killed in battle. In 867 the Vikings had seized control of Northubria forming the Kingdom of York . Which is also mentioned in the Annals of Ulster; The dark foreigners won a battle over the northern Saxons at York. Approximately three years after, Dunbarton was also taken over as well, leaving a newly combined Pictish and Gaelic kingdom which had been brought together by Cinead mac Alpin ( or more commonly known as Kenneth Alpin), leaving the Kingdom almost entirely encircled by the new Scandinavian settlers The usual perception of Vikings plays reference to their role mainly as raiders, being disruptive and destructive. However conquerors and colonists made a more positive contribution by encouraging commerce, the growth of towns and re shaping political structures. • 4. The Historical Context Of Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus Tiffany Stelle English Prof Barrett Graves 8 April 2015 Tamora: Gender Constructs in Titus Andronicus In Shakespeare s plays it is important to understand the historical context of women in the Elizabethan Age and their role. The Shakespearean era consisted of a misogynistic and patriarchal society which contrasted with Queen Elizabeth being the head of the state. Even though the most important person in England was a woman, the common woman was still very limited in her power and in her independence. Women in this era were dependent on men socially, economically and sexually. Married women were not allowed to be in the public without their husbands, they were bound to the domestic area. Women in general were believed to be less rational than men and always needed male protection and guidance. As they were thought to be incapable of caring for themselves, it was the men s duty to control their sexuality; the father had to guarantee that his daughter marries as a virgin and the husband had to control his wife so she would only bear his children. Economically women were dependent on men because they were not allowed to have their own business or be involved in trade. They were seen as objects of bartering that men traded with and treated as if they were property. Women were believed to be passive objects, this idea of male dominance above women is represented in theology and philosophy and even supported by medical science: The fact that female sex organs were inside was ... • 5. The Strict Liability Theory The Strict Liability Theory Introduction Strict Liability in simplistic terms can imply an individual or company being liable for their deeds, conducts and outcomes that result in damages to others. A personal complaint of injury for a strict liability case is not as a consequence of a foreplanned action or careless deed (Boatright, 2012). The respondent s action should have triggered strict liability and that the complainant suffered harm. In fact, one cannot understand what strict liability in the criminal law means, in the same token understand why it is considered unorthodox and morally dyslogistic. The respondent s responsibility and blameworthiness, or mental fault should be evaluated and, more particularly, the usual relevance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, the owner knew or should have recognized the animal s specific solicitude (Alabama injury law advisor, 2009). In a case involving a domestic animal, the owner is most certainly liable only if he has prior knowledge that his animal has dangerous behaviors and mannerisms. The First bite rule states that the owner is accountable for the second occasion that his animal bites somebody, but not the first instance it bites. Aberrantly Dangerous Activity Strict liability is a certainty for all such activities that involve more or less so substantial risk of harm in their functionality and performance. If the respondent engages in any array of activities and fortuitously and non negligently causes harm to the complainant, he or she is strictly liable. Must be remembered, this is subject to a few limitations that are beyond the jurisdiction of Strict Liability Theory. Essentially, abnormally dangerous activities include all activities related to nuclear reactors, explosives, crop spraying and many others (Cantú, 2002). At present, for ascertaining the extent to which an activity is abnormally dangerous, the courts focus their emphasis on the following factors. Firstly, the high degree of risk of harm to person or property. Secondly, the attributable gravity of the damage to the activity and whether a party responsible cannot perform the activity with complete safety. Moreover, the limits to which the activity is ... • 6. Animal Welfare Vs Animal Rights These alternatives, once studied enough to be credible, could change the face of animal testing. Unfortunately according to the John Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, scientists say we simply do not yet understand the complexities of the human body well enough to be able to design suitable non animal alternatives (Shany 85). This means millions of animals will be killed in the years to come, but hopefully we take the time to find a safe alternative. Once an alternative becomes available, we will be able to reduce the number of animals killed each year during testing. Animal welfare vs. animal rights is another big aspect of the animal testing controversy. You may think that both groups are for the same thing, but they are ... Many medical advances have been found because of animal testing, including penicillin, blood transfusions, insulin (that controls blood sugar levels of diabetics), kidney transplants, and vaccines for polio and meningitis (Shany 84). These treatments and vaccines would not have been discovered if animal testing had not been used. Not only have treatments and vaccines been found for humans, but treatments for animals have been too, such as the vaccines for rabies, anthrax, feline leukemia, and canine parvo virus (Shany 84). • 7. The Impact Of Arena On The Beginnings Of The Civil War First, thank you very much for following the advice set out in my last memo. Through a coordinated media campaign focussed on clarifying the role of ARENA in the beginnings of the civil war, we ve been able to secure a small but consistent advantage over our FMLN opponents. However, according to the research that my team and I have conducted, this advantage is very fragile. While El Salvadoran voters have communicated to us that they do not blame ARENA for the start of the conflict, there is more confusion about the role of the party during the height of the war in the 1980s. Therefore, this memo will be divided into three parts: first, a surface level history of the conflict through the 1980s; second, potential academic explanations for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Magaña s Presidency took an active and purposeful role in opposing the FMLN guerrillas through attacks on the group s primarily peasant base and support network. From 1981 to 1983, it is estimated that at least 18,000 civilians were killed by government forces. Many of these deaths were the result of air force bombings of peasants trying to flee across the Honduras border or massacres committed by government infantry groups against FMLN friendly villages such as El Mozote in December 1981. Paramilitary death squads were also incredibly active during this time period, at one point killing six members of the opposition Christian Democratic Party (PDC), resulting in a condemnation of the Magaña government by PDC leader José Napoleón Duarte. The second phase of the conflict, following the election of Duarte and the PDC in the 1984 5 elections, resulted in a reduction in government violence against civilians and attempts, although ultimately unsuccessful, to reach a peace between the FMLN and government. The US backed Duarte, who defeated ARENA leader Roberto d Aubuisson amid allegations of electoral fraud, became the first civilian President in forty years. Political murders declined significantly during his administration, although there were still civilian deaths in combat zones and mass displacement concerns amounting to around 1500 deaths per year. Taking a Look at Existentialism Existentialism when looked in a dictionary means a philosophical theory or approach which emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their development through acts of the will. This theory emphasizes on the existence of man as an individual and how every choices exerted by him determines a different course of action for him. Existentialism when looked in a lexicon implies a philosophical hypothesis or methodology which accentuates the presence of the distinctive individual as a free and capable executor deciding their particular advancement through demonstrations of the will. This viewpoint underlines the exceptional encounters of every person and the obligation of every individual for their decisions and what they make of themselves. Since it picked up ubiquity at the end of the second world war , the expression existentialism has basically been connected with a social development that developed out of the wartime scholarly air of the Left Bank in Paris and spread through fiction and symbolization to the extent that logic. • 11. Nicu Case Studies INTRODUCTION It is common consensus that the levels of light and noise in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) ward has always been and presently unacceptable, although historically there has been ongoing debate about the exact level and type of impact this environment has on preterm infants in terms of their sleep patterns and neuropsychological development. There has been some support by substantial research that has previously found stimulation in the NICU has a detrimental effect on the development, growth and quality of sleep of infants. Long term implications have also been found to have a negative effect on the motor and neurological functioning of preterm infants. However, other studies argue that they had found no significant effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to provide premature babies with the many undisturbed rest hours they require for their development, health and well being. The investigation was done by three different principal designers and a team in three stages, understanding the problem (vision building), verifying (specifying) by conducting a feasibility study, and project management (preparation for strict development). Despite the positive results of many academic and company studies, several physicians reported in personal communication that the actual sound levels at the ward has only changed marginally (if at all) over the years. Sound levels at the NICU are problematic for the neonate infants, because noise is a direct cause of long lasting auditory problems and a significant cause of neurologic impairment, cardiovascular and respiratory problems. There were new technology measures proposed to minimise or overcome these problems, including a central system connecting all medical equipment, centrally controlled sound generating units with redesigned sounds and user interfaces. Despite only having found two studies on the variable of movement, both researchers agreed that movement (tactile/kinaesthetic stimulation) had positive effects on a range of developmental outcomes of preterm infants. Only two studies suggested new solutions for this ongoing problem, but yet again none of these have been tried, tested or proven in real cases. • 12. Children Of Poverty And Poverty Children Living in Poverty Andrea Guzmán California State University, Fullerton I. NEEDS STATEMENT Children who live in extreme poverty or who live below the poverty line for multiple years appear, all other things being equal, to suffer the worst outcomes Income poverty is the condition of not having enough income to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. Because children are dependent on others, they enter or avoid poverty by virtue of their family s economic circumstances. Children cannot alter family conditions by themselves, at least until they approach adulthood (Brooks Gunn Duncan, 1997). A child living in poverty is a societal issue that affects society as a whole. A. Nature and extent of the problem Data broken down by demographics, such as gender, ethnicity, region, age, specific distinctions within the population, prevalence, number of people National The statistics of children living in poverty are at elevated quantities. Nationally, around one in five children are living in poverty (Raphel, 2014). Social Services (2015), specifies that 21.6% of the United States children were living in poverty in 2013. To each of these businesses, characters or speakers face a fear of the unusual components that these fields hold. Finally, the individuals in these stories are conflicted with reaching a resolution to these fears. Working or owning a business entails a significant period of a person s life, where one undertakes training in order to be paid for that profession. The Last Stop comprises of a tour around a mortuary and its dealings with the dead. This business in particular, Goodbody Mortuaries, prepares the deceased for a casket viewing, offers funeral services, and handles burial arrangements. Mortuaries are among strange businesses because Throughout our lives, death remains intensely private (Cable 64). These missed releases have resulted in fines to the company, and extreme customer dissatisfaction. We have had to reduce our workforce considerably over the past year, and in the process, we have lost experienced employee talent. Middle management has accepted the challenge to develop a PBA Design to Release Spreadsheet. This spreadsheet process will assist our Research and Development organization in achieving the company s goal to honor its contractual obligations to customers. Once each group has agreed upon their responsibilities, the Team Lead will present the list to the Core Team. In the past, when this kind of information has been collected, the biggest concern expressed from all of the groups is the limited amount of time they have to complete their job efficiently. Their main concern is limited personnel and resources. This spreadsheet tracking process will present a work culture challenge in the way our teams approach their tasks. CORE TEAM REVIEWS EACH GROUP S DEFINITION OF DUTIES After each group has completed their list of tasks and timelines, the Core Team reviews the combined results. The Core Team s goal is to evaluate the lists, and incorporate them into the final spreadsheet. The spreadsheet will define the fundamental duties and timelines to complete for each group. The ultimate goal is to get the product to the customer within eight months. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The logical approach is to start to perform the design work in parallel across groups, when practical. This practice of concurrent engineering is commonly used by understaffed, schedule driven companies. Using this method, each group can be working on their portion of the design, without having to wait for the previous group to complete their portion. When the schedule of the PBA release has been established, an excel spreadsheet is generated with each participant s responsibilities and timelines. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now sometimes after the design is ready and house is build the client is not satisfied with the work as there is miss interaction between designing and understanding of plan layout. Even contractors get confuse while investing in big society just by looking at planning; like if the outcome of construction does not go as good as design. People even get confuse while selecting the texture and colour of the houses they want to build. To deal with these issues, recent research area projects includes few closely related areas of computer discipline like Virtual Reality Architecture. Virtual Reality is a powerful new technology with great opportunity to help contractors and architect for making their presentation of plan layout better. This project focus on real time experience. User can view model of their property in virtual reality. Here they get a walk through environment of the property they are planning to build. Other minerals are also used to produce products, such as using clay for bricks, sulfur to make fertilizer and refine petroleum, and oil, coal, and natural gas are used for energy. Metallic minerals are hard, contain their own shine or luster, are ductile and malleable (capable of being hammered thin and extended without breakage), and do not break when hit where non metallic minerals are just the opposite (Daga). An example of metallic minerals is tin, which can be used to make cans to preserve food as well as other products. An example of non metallic minerals is marble, used to make counter tops and decorative pieces. Mining Depending on how deep into the earth the minerals are that are to be extracted, explosives are used to blast rock into smaller pieces and heavy machinery brings it out of the earth from the tunnels that are formed by the explosives. The minerals are then processed by a separation method to be refined into products. The processing includes heating the metals after separation to temperatures that reach 1600 degrees to be formed. For metals that are on the surface of the earth, a process of booming is used where water is collected into large reservoirs and discharged in large amounts to remove large amounts of gravel in a thick mud state to show where the minerals are. Example Of Conflict Theory The conflict theory maintains that the law and policy regarding the justice system are tools used by the people with the most political power to further their interests. Based on Marxist s social theory, the conflict theory stresses how the people in power can manipulate the law or other legal policies to help their agenda. An example of this would be the progressive police reform, in which it was a social movement advocating progress, change, and reform in the police occupation (Progressive Police Reform). In the 19th century, the police was seen as social workers and in order to implement the social work role, they hired women officers. If that is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to love her unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love of God and put towards her love for him. Browning obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much? ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...¨. The poem is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for this man. The quote states the ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. The Hypothesis for this topic is that the First Opium War caused problems in society because the criminal rate increased, as well as the local consumption of the drug. This presentation will be discussing mainly what opium is, what the first opium war was, and why it started. The Opium War was a battle in China that occurred during the mid 19th century. This war was between western countries, such as Britain, and the Qing Dynasty, which ruled China between 1644 and 1911. The First Opium War was conducted from 1839 to 1842, and was between China and Britain. The reasoning for the war occurring was caused by China s attempts to withhold the Opium trade. It was over diplomatic relations, trade, and the administration of foreign nationals in China. Opium was illegally being imported into China, through India, by the British. They grew the opium on their plantations in India. At first, the British were addicted to stimulating Chinese tea. Trade imbalance occurred due to the Chinese buying few European products and demanding Gold or Silver in return. The reverse flow of Silver and the increasing number of opium addicts alarmed Chinese officials, and resulted in over 20,000 chests of opium to be confiscated. As opium was being imported into china, it caused unrest in society, the local consumption to increase, and the decrease in the price of the drug. Neural Mechanisms in Controlling Eating Behaviour Outline and evaluate the role of neural mechanisms in controlling eating behaviour (24 marks) Today there is enormous interest in the psychological factors that can affects a person s eating habits, but some of the clearest research findings have come from research into the brain (neural) mechanisms controlling eating behaviour. One important mechanism to consider is the role of homeostasis in all mammals. Homeostasis is how the body maintains a constant internal environment. To support the role of this protein, Zhang et.al injected two copies of the gene for obesity into some mice and these ob/ob mice had a tendency to overeat. They discovered that the ob/ob mice had a defective gene for the protein leptin and were unable to experience a decrease in appetite as well as fat loss. However, injecting these mice with leptin caused them to lose weight dramatically. This shows how proteins also have a role in controlling our eating behaviour and not only neural mechanisms. Moreover, thinking about a food makes us feel hungry but also food related smells and sights. The neural control of these cognitive factors in hunger probably originates in the main brain area the amygdala and the inferior prefrontal cortex. The amygdala plays a role in selecting foods based on previous experience. To support this, Rolls and Rolls found that surgically removing the amygdala in rats would cause the animals to consume both familiar and novel foods indiscriminately, whereas amygdala intact rats would initially avoid novel foods and consume only the more palatable familiar foods instead. This suggests how our previous experience in eating certain foods alters what we eat due to the role of the amygdala processing such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
