As we read through this literature review, we will outline some of the findings from the most
recent research from 2010 2015. The focus is on aging adults and substance abuse in the United
States. The use of alcohol, and prescription medications among this population, also known as the
Baby Boomers is a major concern. One focus will be on the prevalence of substance abuse (alcohol
and prescription use) and the consequences both mentally and physically. Being apart of the aging
population and substance abuse this can lead to misdiagnosing and treating substance abuse among
the elderly.
The Baby Boomer population is growing rapidly here in the United Sates and the issues of
substance abuse and misuse among older adults is a concern. The prevalence of substance use
among this population is increasing and the most common substances used are alcohol, prescription
medications and over the counter medications. Continued use of alcohol and prescription drugs, we
tend to see a rise in the number of older adults admitted to the hospital, with that comes higher
healthcare costs.
With the growing concern over the physical and mental health effects of substance abuse as the

Doing School Summary
Denise Pope Clark, author of Doing School, went to Faircrest High School in order to study the
behaviors and habits students, teachers, and parents use to ensure success in the school system. I
am going to analyze each claim she made and determine if they are accurate or not based on my
own experiences. Pope begins by explaining the habits used to get ahead by students and
categorizes them under an umbrella she calls Doing School . The habits she identifies are
establishing allies and treaties, multi tasking, cheating, and being what she calls a squeaky wheel .
See the writing task above for a more in depth definition of these terms. Bear in mind that Pope
doesn t use any numerical data, just her observations from her time at Faircrest High School. I
personally don t see students totally relying on these habits to Do School. In my school
environment, I see students working hard, but only employing these techniques to cut corners

The manor system is an economic arrangement between both the lords and the serfs. There is a
mutual agreement between them. This was a basic economic system that thrived in the Middle

present day society to appreciate. Written by one of three ancient greek playwrights, Sophocles,
this performance has paved the way for many other pieces of work (Brockett Ball, 2014). One such
work from contemporary times, The Number 23, a movie starring Jim Carrey, appears to follow a
similar, if not the same, plot as Oedipus Rex. Both pieces of work start in the middle of the
trouble; The play starts in the middle of a deathly illness that has spread across the kingdom of
Thebes, which Oedipus is ruler of, and the movie starts with Walter reading a book that seems
oddly similar to his own life. Oedipus is tasked with finding out who murdered the previous king,
since the god Apollo told Creon, Oedipus brother in law, that the murderer is the abomination in
Thebes that has caused the illness. Walter becomes obsessed with the main character of the book
