Corporate Social Responsibility has Risen to Prominence...
What is CSR and why has it risen to prominence in the past decade?
There are now several concepts of CSR and its definition, along with the meaning across
corporations. In my opinion, and according with our textbook in page 11. CSR is about a
particular set of business and strategies that deal with social issues. In addition, we can clearly
perceive that CSRs application along corporations has increase in the past decade due to the several
local, and international regulations in order to enforce business to act responsible.
2. What are the six main characteristics of CSR? How do definitions of CSR vary around the core
characteristics?

operations and their lack of conscious under the concepts of CSR.
In the other hand, Uncharted Play, is a company 100% dedicated to operate under the guide of
their mission and vision where CSR is their main focus and only way to do business.
4. CSR is only relevant for large private sector companies. Critically discuss providing examples
from SMEs, the public and civil sectors.
There are several factors that determine that at the moment CSR is primarily relevant to large
private sectors, according with our textbook, First, SMEs are informal in nature and this reason
lack the need for bureaucratic systems and its structures due to the advantages of small size
businesses. Second, large corporations, are often under the loop of the society and their actions are
visible and vulnerable to criticism. And third, usually the small business are manger by the owner
and for this reason, there is not obligation or direct pressure to serve the shareholders to maximize
or return their investment at any cost.

How Diversity Makes Us Smarter By Katherine W Phillips
I believe that Diversity plays important roles in our lives. Without diversity, we cannot widen
our field of view. Diversity helps us to open up our eyes and our world. From reading the essay
How diversity makes us smarter , written by Katherine W Phillips, I learned that there are some
negative effects brought up by the social diversity where dialog of inclusion is advanced, but
mostly diversity is something that has positive effect in our society and even individual. I could
also reflect and make connection with my experience of moving from non diverse community to
diverse community. I was born in Japan and spent my life there until seventh grade. Even though
my environment was very fulfilling, my community had little diversity. Everyone was from the
same area, we all have same culture, and same race. Individual could had variety of thought but
our basic mind was very similar since we all grow up in the same environment. I can say that I
had little more diversity in my life than other people around me since my mother was Korean, I
had some Korean people around me. Korea is a country located right next to Japan, but they do
have different culture, language, and people. It gave me a little push to become diverse person.
However, there was a big change when I moved to America as an international student in seventh
grade. For the first time in my life, I was surrounded by people who were not my people . When I
walked into the class, everyone had different race, culture,

Reducing High School Dropouts
In the education system today, competition for scholarships and acceptance into college is
increasingly competitive. In order to access to these advantageous opportunities, students in high
school work diligently in order to maintain high grades. As a consequence, distractions, and even
worse, falling behind, can be disastrous. Many of these said distractions however, are fellow
students themselves. Just as many students strive for excellence, others barely pass for mediocracy,
and they drag diligent students down in their apathy of school. In order to remove these
distractions, it could be suggested that by lowering the high schooldropoutage, it would benefit
studious students by removing those who don t wish to be attending school.... Show more content on

These opponents sight many reasons and examples of why the high school age should not be
lowered. One of these reasons is that they do not believe that allowing a juvenile to decide such a
defining moment in their life without parental consent. As many high school drop outs potentially
earn a drastically lower salary than their high school diploma receiving counter parts, it is seen as
irresponsible to allow, what is essentially a child, to make such a devastating life

Task 1:
The role of a teacher has changed considerably over the years in the past the teacher may have
been perceived as being the fountain of all knowledge and the purveyor of information. I would
like to think we are still the fountain of all knowledge but the way we deliver our courses has
changed considerably. We no longer stand at the front of the class with rows and rows of learners
sitting waiting for us to transmit the information to them.
As a teacher we are now the facilitator of knowledge. Our job is to guide the learners and allow
them to take responsibility for there own learning. We are less likely to have students in rows in
front of us and more likely to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abstract conceptualization is when we come to a decision about what we would do differently next
time. The way we would come to a decision is through further studying or staff development and
reading the right literature.
Active experimentation is the conclusion of our abstract conceptualization stage and provides the
platform that we can plan our changes. Once we have administered these changes we can then start
the cycle again and have some new concrete experiences.
Kolb also described how Lewin s action research and T group training in laboratories was
influenced by the concept of feedback that was used by electrical engineers. This feedback process
involved concrete experience; observations and reflections; formation of abstract concepts and
generalizations; and testing implications of concepts in new situations . The similarities with Kolb

Charles Dickens is universally perceived as one of the excellent authors in literature. A Tale of
Two Cities is one of Dickens most precise novels, and is also exceptionally fast paced. Dickens
chose to publish it in weekly portions, and there s consistently ample action to keep readers
captivated. Dickens, we find throughout history, always had a knack for the dramatic, and it s
undoubtedly presented in this novel. This type of appealing style and approach is demonstrated in

Environment And DAPL Lectures
For my event immersion, I chose to attend two different lectures. Specifically, the power of
knowledge: higher education, reintegration and liberation, as well as the environment/DAPL
lecture. Both lectures served as a reminder of what is necessary towards a focus on education in
society. I decided to look at both lectures because of my interest in how the two potentially collide
based off an interesting that I had personally. Socialization is one aspect of the conversation that
does not necessarily come forth, but holds a large degree of relevance.
The significance of these lectures is that they all revolve around a need for people to be more
understanding of one another through education. Education serves as a vehicle that helps people to

The issue here is based on the fact that socialization ultimately works in hand with education and
it applies the identities. That is, Harro (2008) found that identities are ascribed to us at birth
through no effort or decision or choice of our own (p. 46). Considering this, it becomes
increasingly difficult to create a us vs them scenario. When in reality, it is two groups of people
who have grown up believing two different ideologies, and there is not really any type of dynamic
change that is associated with this conversation. The contrast of these two conversations only add
to the ongoing understanding of how difficult it is to have a difference if any. The more important
conversation that is occurring here is ultimately how can one bridge the gap of knowledge and
conversation that is occurring here.
Society currently stands at odds due in part to the fact that there is a gap in knowledge and
socialization is at the heart of it. In the instances provided by both lecturers, they are tied by the
fact that there is no real manner upon which their issues can be resolved because socialization
ultimately acts as the judge and jury. They are both looking to bridge the gap between the two
parties at odds that have developed. However, as Harro stated, there isn t a realistic solution due in
part to the fact that socialization is so significant in this

Redemption In Schindler s List
Never shall I forget the feeling of anticipation when the little boy in Schindler s List is looking for
a hiding spot and, when it came to desperate measures, the boy had to hide in the latrine. The boy s
daring actions at survival show how he feels about life and death and make the viewers question
whether if they were in his position would they commit the same act.
The boy starts out standing in a herd of children, the other children are oblivious to what is going
on and blindly go into the cattle cars thinking they are going on a field trip. There are a few
other children who know that everything will not be sweet at the new destination so they escape
to a hiding place. Some of these children are not successful when planning their escape, but this
little boy is. The boy stealthily runs the other direction into the place of residence to find a hiding
place. The first place the boy looks is under the metal floorboard, to his dismay, he finds children
hiding underneath. The next place the boy looks is in a chimney, he finds another child hiding and
the child immediately closes the door. The anticipation grows because the viewers know that the

along with the other children will go to extreme measures to survive. This makes the viewers
witness the apocryphal horrors everyone went through to survive during the holocaust. This scene
stands out more than the other scenes because it shows how the children know the value of their
life and the measures the children would go through to keep their life. At the end of the movie, the
viewers see the actor of the scene and the male who made the choice. This shows that the choice
the boy made in the scene impacted his life for the

Peter Singer Famine Affluence And Morality Analysis

modern world. Singer brings up the main situation going on right now, all around the world.
People that are dying because of lack of food, shelter, and medical attention is bad. Singer
believes that if we can do something that prevent from happening without sacrificing anything,
then do it. For example, if we see a child drowning. The sacrifice is getting wet but that shouldn t

Summary Of The Most Dangerous GameAndPorphyria s Lover
IntroFrom the beginning men used God to justify the unjustifiable. Salman Rushdie, The Satanic
Verses. Salman Rushdie points are truly stated and are seen in literature work. The two stories The
Most Dangerous Game and Porphyria s Lover , both portray the characters, General Zaroff and
Porphyria s Lover, as murderers who think they have done nothing wrong. The authors Connell and
Browning use conflict and characterization to convey that some find it easy to justify murder.
DP 1Through the use of external conflict between Zaroff and Rainsford s hunting prowess, and
Porphyria s Lover strangling Porphyria, the authors show how each can easily justify murder.
Rainsford, the main character, fell off his boat and swam ashore a mysterious island. When he
arrived he came across a fortress of sorts, and meet the man incharge, General Zaroff. Zaroff is
talking to Rainsford about his past and the island he lives on. Zaroff tells Rainsford about his
hunting experiences when he says Hunting was beginning to bore me! And hunting, remember, had
been my life(33). This is when Zaroff s internal conflict arises, suffers from ennui in hunting and
wants something more of a challenge to kill. He has been hunting for as long as he can remember
and every beast he has faced, he overcame and killed it, until there was no animal he couldn t kill.
This is what caused Zaroff to want a challenge, something that . must have courage, cunning and,
above all, it must be able to reason.

Examining Four Types of Diversity Essay examples
While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to
all the qualities that make people different. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is
to understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact
human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in
skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact
on individualbehavior will be described.
One type of diversity is occupation. For example, an individual in a professional occupation is
more likely to make his or her own decisions and is also more ... Show more content on

The same employee may have had close relationships with subordinates before they became
supervisor. This example shows how occupation impacts behavior and how a change in position
can alter individual behavior. The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One
of the most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often
adapt their behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and
abilities. For example, consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very
effective written communication skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is
likely to adapt his or her behavior so they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating
orally. As a specific example, this individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of
communicating with their employees, instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates
how people tend to adapt their behavior so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding
having to use their weaker skills and abilities. Another type of diversity is personality traits.
Personality traits are defined as recurring patterns of behavior such as friendliness, social
dominance, conventionality, emotional adjustment, and aesthetic inclination (Seamon Kenrick,
1994). As this definition shows, personality traits are actually defined because of the observed
behavior they result in. The link

Military Cyber Systems Can Be Attacked From External And...
Because we are in many ways at the beginning stages of technology advancement and many of
the modern day systems used by the military are relatively new it is difficult to predict the
likelihood that a specific system will be vulnerable to attacks and exploitation. Therefore, it is
necessary to always be prepared for it. As Bill Blunden, an author who investigates and writes on
the topic of cyberwar stated, the absence of historical data makes it nearly impossible to
analytically calculate the probability of a genuine cyber Armageddon (2014).
Past exploitations of military cyber systems and their consequences
History shows that military cyber systems can be attacked from external and internal threats. In
2008 a flash drive infected with malicious code spread throughout the system once an internal user
connected it to a military laptop, allowing the attacker unhindered access to information on both
unclassified and classified networks. It is suspected to have been planted by a foreign intelligence
agency and moved the Department of Defense to implement a new cybersecurity strategy (Mills,
2008). In March of 2015 ISIS gained control of at least 100 military personnel PII and made threats,
asking American supporters to commit Jihadist attacks against these personnel. In July of 2010

A Brief Note On Wildlife Photography, And For Good Reason
Wildlife photography is a very popular area to specialise in, and for good reason. It gives you a
great excuse to spend extended periods of time outdoors, keeps you fit, and allows you to
develop a real appreciation for the natural world. But it can also be a very challenging field too,
especially since your subject is often running away from you! I m going to share with you 15 of
my top tips so that you can start improving your wildlife photos straight away. Hopefully by the
end of this article you ll have learnt something new that will help you on your journey to becoming
the next Art Wolfe. 1. Shoot on Eye level When you re standing up and shooting an animal on the
ground, your angle of view is pointing downwards. This detracts from the photo, making the
perspective seem strange. It also decreases the distance between the subject and the background,
getting rid of your chance for that nice, soft bokeh (background). Instead, get onto eye level with
your subject. It brings the viewer down onto the animal s level, creating a much more interesting
perspective. It will most likely increase the distance between the subject and the background too,
removing distracting elements by throwing the backdrop out of focus. 2. Learn About Your Subject
Getting to know the animal you re photographing can be a really helpful trick. If you know about
an animal s typical behavioural traits, then you will be able to predict movements or particular
things you can focus on capturing.

Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain Essay
Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain
The towns of Hoquiam and Aberdeen are located on the eastern edge of Grays Harbor in western
Washington state. If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If
not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people s lives.
Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population
9,000) and after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the
eastern most point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On

prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until

years ago as the economy fell and available lands were depleted. Now people are worried that the
Northwestern logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen is marked for a slow ugly

According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen s name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic

Linear Spirometry Lab Report
Thirteen adult subjects (five male and eight female) 19 23 years of age were gathered to
perform a forced expiratory volume (FVC) maneuver and have pulmonary testing conducted
during increasing intensity exercise. Respiratory measures for tidal flow volume loops were
measured using pulmonary spirometry. For this experiment, an MC TA 200V Metabolic Cart
was used to collect data. The equipment was setup as follows: a sterilized mouthpiece was
attached to a filter configured with one way valves to ensure only inspired air came in to the
system from the outside and the expired air was sent to the apparatus. Upon configuring the
mouthpiece, it was attached to clean bore tubing, which was then connected to the flow head.
From the flow head, two tubes separately connect to the spirometry pod. Before the first subject
performed their trials, the spirometry pod was zeroed once. If an additional file was used in
LabChart for a new subject it would be zeroed an additional time. It was important to ensure that the
data being placed into the LabChart data pad contained the first traces of both channels. Once the
subject had the mouthpiece inserted in their mouth and nose plugs were... Show more content on

Some researchers argue that the cost of spares is always an area where cost reduction can be of

Yan et al (2008) Ebeling (1997), pointed out the purpose of maintenance is to extend equipment life
and minimise the frequency of service interruption. Ebeling (1997) concluded that availability is the
important index of the all indices for power availability. Several maintenance types or tactics have
been suggested by many authors for example (Mowbray, 1991 and Kelly, 1997). There are mainly
two types of maintenance practices and these are breakdown and preventive maintenance.
Breakdown maintenance requires replacement of damaged part of the equipment during
unscheduled maintenance while preventive maintenance requires replacement of the components at
pre determined intervals. Condition based maintenance is used to monitor the condition of the
equipment using condition monitoring technique.
There is a general belief that corrective maintenance is less economical than preventive
maintenance, and all failures can then be prevented. This approach to preventive maintenance
firstly wastes a lot of resources in doing unnecessary tasks which will not improve equipment or
system availability and secondly it is potentially risk (Tsang,1995).Principal argument in favour of

The World War II, And A Man
It was World War II, and a man by the name John Muller was fighting in Poland for the United

John has not seen his family in a year and a half. John had three comrades that he grew up with
that were in his unit; Dan Macintosh, Eugene Soap, and Jim Franklin, also known as ghost from
disappearing during battle and flanking the enemy during a battle earlier in the year. They all had a
great friendship with each other, and they also had each other s backs. One day while John and

Empowering Your Organization
Empowering Your Organization
Introduction
Organizations are about people. People are the most valuable asset that an organization can possess
to create success. The development of these people and the ability for an organization to retain
talent can be complex. An organization must be organized to communicate and provide the
structure necessary for growth and development. They must also have the people within the
organization understand their ability to grow and the directions available within the organization
for growth.
In the industrial age a company was primarily there to provide goods and serves. Many
organizational behaviorists at that time focused on getting the most production from the employee.

A great example of this is in losing weight many people choose to go on a quick fix diet plan. This
is a wonderful way to reduce the weight in the short term but the person eventually returns to their
previous weight. Change must come from the inside through long term changes in the way that
they think about food and the long term change in diet.
When an organization has the symptoms of disempowerment it is not just from the inability of the
individuals internally but from a dysfunctional mindset within the organization. Therefore the
organization must perform a metamorphose to change the structure of the company and the
mindset of the individuals and management.
There are six values that are an essential part of the framework necessary for change within an
organization. These six values are self responsibility, authentic communication, trust, learning and
growing, interpersonal process skills and caring.
When looking at an organizational level of self responsibility the empowering organization has
individuals that take responsibility for their jobs, team and organization being the way that they
need it to be. This is the opposite of the mindset of victimization and an understanding that changes
comes from each individual within an organization.
If an organization promotes authentic communication it is obvious through

The Cost Of Cost Costing
Procedure costing is utilized when there is large scale manufacture of comparative items, where
the expenses connected with individual units of yield can t be separated from one another. As
such, the expense of every item delivered is thought to be the same as the expense of each other
item. Under this idea, expenses are amassed over a settled time of time, abridged, and after that
designated to the greater part of the units delivered amid that time of time on a predictable premise.
At the pointwhen items are rather being produced on an individual premise, occupation costing is
utilized to amass costsand appoint the expenses to items. At the point when a creation procedure
contains a few mass assembling and some modified components, then a crossover costing
framework is utilized.
Cases of the businesses where this kind of creation happens incorporate oil refining, sustenance
generation, and substance preparing. Case in point, how would you focus the exact expense needed
to make one gallon of flying fuel, when a great many gallons of the same fuel are spouting out of a
refinery consistently? The expense bookkeeping technique utilized for this situation is procedure
costing.
Procedure costing is the main sensible methodology to deciding item costs in numerous commercial
enterprises. It utilizes the greater part of the same diary entrances found in an occupation costing
environment, so there is no compelling reason to rebuild the diagram of records to any huge degree.

Greek Burial
Burials are one of the most used archaeological sites for scholars to gain insight and information on
all civilizations, and in this case Greek civilizations. In his book Ethnic Identity, Stuart Hall makes a
strong argument illustrating that social structures may be articulated and projected through
funerary ritual and this may be undeniable (). Greek burialcustoms depict a parallel with society and
their standards of living throughout time; focusing on the Bronze Age and into the Classical Period,
the changing society of Ancient Greek shows the development of these burials.

What Is The Idea Of Voltaire
The Ideas of Voltaire
David Zakharian
9/24/2017
The Ideas of Voltaire The enlightenment can be described as an era where people took the ideas
and methods of the scientific revolution, and tired to see if there was a way to find the natural
laws that govern the universe and human society. People looked through a new lens and
questioned the basic presumptions of an idea to come to a better understanding of things. People
asked questions about why things functioned the way they do. Many philosophers attempted to
find the solutions of problems people faced by using reason. These thinkers tried to make life for
people in Europe better. They explored political representation, the natural rights of man, the ideals
of how to find a ruler, what limits rulers should have, the ideals of religion, and how society could
be beneficial for everybody. What happened was a progression of ideas during this period of time.
One major philosopher of this era includes Voltaire, his ideas included support of civil rights like
freedom of speech, disapproval of authority, opposition to the Church, and deism. His idea of
disapproval of authority stemmed from his distrust in democracy. In his opinion, a monarch
should be advised by wise and educated people to make decisions. During his time, most people
were uneducated and illiterate. That is why Voltaire dismissed the idea of democracy, his only
view of functioning government was based on educated and honest people. His model of an
ideal government would be an enlightened monarch that had philosophers as his advisors who
would counterbalance his desire for more power and wealth at the cost of society. Furthermore,
another belief he had was deism. This was associated with his disapproval of how corrupt
churches were. Voltaire considered churches to be hypocrites. For example, priests would take
vows of celibacy, but still give into their desires. Besides that, stealing is considered a sin. It was
common for clergy to use the ignorance and naivety of simple people to take their possessions.
Voltaire thought that clergy were unneeded, since they were corrupt along with royalty. He believed
a simple religion was much better, and thought that people should have the

The Impact of Invasive Species on Ecosystems Essay
Influence on ecosystems range from human causes like the bulldozing of a forest to natural causes
like a fire or a flood. In recent times, the introduction and spread of invasive species has
transformed native communities rapidly and, in some cases, created irreversible damages. In the
Earth s history, changes have often occurred in the ecosystems. For example, glaciersand the retreat
of glaciers cause wide spread changes. However, although change is a constant in ecosystems,
animals and habitats often cannot adapt to the rapid alterations of non natural stresses. Harm to the
environment from the introduction of invasive speciesoccurs through changes in the habitatand
declines in the native species. Invasive species... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Van Driesche, nonnative species are more likely to establish if they invade habitats
with lowered biotic resistance, encounter prey with poorly developed mechanisms of self defense,
or invade habitats unaccompanied by their specialized natural enemies or when their invasion is
facilitated by earlier invaders (2000). Damage to these communities, then, can be seen both in
cumulative effects and in a cycle of self reinforcement. Although pristine environments are still at
risk from invasion, this positive feedback loop makes habitats already with a disturbance by
exotics even more vulnerable to other invasions. With the increasing amount of disturbed habitats,
invasive species could soon become the leading cause of ecological degradation (SoulГ© Orians,
2001). Invasive species can alter habitats in a number of ways. Changes in the physical structure of
the land are the most visually obvious. Examples include narrowing stream channels, reducing sand
supply to dunes, and stabilizing surfaces such as mudflats, and each invasive species goes about
these changes in their own way. For instance, the burrowing activities of Australian isopods cause
the banks of tidal channels to collapse, leading to the widening of channels and the loss of
vegetated salt marsh (Cox, 1999). On the other hand, Japanese mussels that have invaded the San
Diego area are stabilizing mudflats. Although reaching Southern California in the 1960s,

many adaptions to the original scenarios, however for the purpose of this essay the two scenarios
can be described as follows. In the first scenario you are in a trolley cart travelling down a hill on

Artemis informative speech to Hippolytus not only displays the dramatic irony present throughout
the play, but also solidifies many predominant themes present during the play. This passage
summarizes the entire play as Artemis describes the plans of the characters, going on to blame
Phaedra, the Nurse, Aphrodite, and Theseus. (Halleran, 276) Through Artemis passage (Euripides,
1283 1312), the truth about Phaedra and Hippolytus, unknown and misunderstood by Theseus,

Artemis recognizes Phaedra s nobility and honour, telling Theseus she came also for, ...[his] wife s

to maintain her reputation, as well as her struggle to fight off the emotional attachment to
Hippolytus instilled in her by the goddess Aphrodite. Relationships between gods and mortals are
vital to Greek culture. Hippolytus, as strongly devoted as he is to the goddess Artemis, fails to
show respect to the goddess of sexuality, Aphrodite. Aphrodite initially describes Hippolytus as, an
arrogant young man who should be punished for his contempt for [Aphrodite s] world. (Halleran,

Hippolytus killed. Although Hippolytus has the support of the goddess Artemis, Aphrodite s
scheme to have Hippolytus killed ultimately triumphs, relating the play to Greek culture, implying
the gods ultimately decide all mortals fate. Another god who impacts the life of Hippolytus is
Poseidon, father of Theseus. Poseidon grants Theseus three wishes, and does Theseus well by
fulfilling the curse Theseus wishes for his son; the curse of death. Evidently, Poseidon, although

Zimbabwe s Struggle For Human Rights Abuses
Introduction In the modern diamond market, there is a plethora of minerals waiting to be mined.
Within Africa s southern region, Zimbabwe has found diamonds to be a vital commodity in
sustaining the country. In order to reach these minerals, mining companies must find a steady
supply of labor to mine and sort the diamonds before they are later sold rough in wholesale to
dealers, distributed to be cut, polished, and turned into jewelry at manufacturing plants, and
marketed by retailers to finally be sold to customers. (Levin, 2014, p.24). Zimbabwe s main mine
is Marange Field, a mine run by the government that handles unofficial conflict diamonds diamonds
used to finance rebellious wars. (Nicholas, 2012, p.650) Although technically conflict free under
the Kimberly Process, Zimbabwe over the past 15 years has continued to commit human rights
abuses. Allowed by Zimbabwe s government influence and the high supply of desperate families
living in poverty available to mine for the precious gems, a thriving international industry emerged.
This control of desperation allows producers of Marange Fields to use forced labor within the
supply chain. (Baker, 2015, p. 65) Although Zimbabwe is by the United Nations definition
providing conflict free diamonds, it is evident that individuals are being trafficked and abused in the
mining stage of production. Research reveals systematic methodologies of trafficking within the

Heroin Negative Effects
What are the negative effects of Heroin usage? Heroin is a very addicting drug that if abused bad
enough, can be very hard to control. The user can learn how to control the thoughts or behaviors
that may have once led to the craving of the drug.
Heroin is a short acting opioid. In other words, it takes effect rapidly, however, it leaves the
bloodstream quickly. The NHTSA estimates that heroinwithdrawal symptoms start within six to
twelve hours of the last dose and it lasts five to ten days in total. There are dozens of symptoms
Heroin causes. Symptoms may only last a week approximately, however symptoms can be severe.
Some of these include bad teeth, cold sweats, weakening of the immune system, coma, loss of
memory, etc. There are a collection of other symptoms but those are the most common.
Withdrawal from heroin is not generally considered life threatening on its own. However, some of
the medical and psychological symptoms may have complications. For someone who did not
abuse heroin in massive doses, withdrawal may be more tempered and not last as long. When
heroin is abused, a rush of pleasure occurs, and when it is removed, the opposite effect happens.
Heroin binds to opioid receptors, which increases chemicals in the brain that are responsible for
feelings of pleasure. Heroin is an opioid drug that suppresses some of the functions of the central
nervous system. For example, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and temperature regulation.
Someone with a history of mental illnesses or addiction to other drugs may be more likely to
become more dependent on the drug taste. The longer someone uses heroin, how it was abused,
and how much was taken each time will all be factors in how dependent the brain and body are
to the drug. In the past decade, the CDC reports that abuse has doubled for Americans aged
eighteen to twenty five. In 2013, it is estimated that eighteen thousand two hundred people have
died from a heroin overdose, which is close to four times the number of heroin related overdose
fatalities in 2002. Heroin may be a cheaper alternative to powerful and addictive drugs such as
Oxycontin and Vicodin. CNN has reported that close to half of injection heroin users abused a

Different Methods Of Qualitative Research
This essay will look at the qualitative approaches to research and look into more detail at the main
traditions and theoretical approaches to qualitative research, the main research methods associated
with qualitative research; and the main criticisms that are frequently levelled at qualitative research.
There are many different definitions of qualitative research; one definition that defines it well is; a
means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or
human problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically
collected in the participant s setting. (Creswell, J. 2009)
There are many different methods of qualitative research and the approaches used include narrative,
phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. The narrative approach retells a
person s story across time; it explores what the story means and the lessons to be learnt from it. The
goal of phenomenological research is to describe participants experiences in a specific context and
understand a phenomenon.
Grounded theory research looks at a process, an action or an interaction with the goal of
developing a theory. The researcher attempts to derive a general, abstract theory of a process,
action, or interaction grounded in the views of participants in a study. This process involves using
multiple stages of data collection and the refinement and interrelationship of categories of
information (Strauss Corbin,

If you are still weary about which plastic water bottle or glasses you buy there is a way you can
check if it safe. There numbers with recycling symbols located somewhere on the plastic item.
The numbers you want your water bottle are 1,2,4, and 5, while you want to avoid the numbers
3, 6, and 7. The reason you want to avoid 3,6, and 7 are because those are the numbers that still
contain BPA. The number 3 contains PVC plastic that usually used as peanut butter jars and
squeeze bottles. The plastic numbered 6 is made with polystyrene. The Chemical is normally
found in things such as styrofoam trays. Last number 7 are non recyclable and are made with
polycarbonate. Another important thing people should know is that not all BPA free water
bottle are not so safe and maybe even as bad as just having the BPA in the bottle. There are two
different things I found some research on that have been used to replace BPA one being BPS
(bisphenol S) and the other called Tritan. As for BPS in January of this year scientists found out
that BPS is messing with the brain development of the zebrafish, why this is important to us is
because we share 80% of genes with the zebrafish. There were also urine test that found out that
about 81% of people in the US have trace amounts of this chemical. As for Tritan, a lot is still
known about it because it is still fairly new, but in some experiments conducted it had a higher
estrogen effect on animals than BPA did and another no effect whatsoever.. Now only studying,
testing, and time will tell if it is truly safe or

Aging Adults And Substance Abuse
Monica Neumann
Gerontology Fall 2015
As we read through this literature review, we will outline some of the findings from the most
recent research from 2010 2015. The focus is on aging adults and substance abuse in the United
States. The use of alcohol, and prescription medications among this population, also known as the
Baby Boomers is a major concern. One focus will be on the prevalence of substance abuse (alcohol
and prescription use) and the consequences both mentally and physically. Being apart of the aging
population and substance abuse this can lead to misdiagnosing and treating substance abuse among
the elderly.
The Baby Boomer population is growing rapidly here in the United Sates and the issues of
substance abuse and misuse among older adults is a concern. The prevalence of substance use
among this population is increasing and the most common substances used are alcohol, prescription
medications and over the counter medications. Continued use of alcohol and prescription drugs, we
tend to see a rise in the number of older adults admitted to the hospital, with that comes higher
healthcare costs.
With the growing concern over the physical and mental health effects of substance abuse as the
population of older adults continues to rise, the question is whether there are going to be enough
treatment options available for this age group and if so, what type of treatment is best. With the
aging population growing in the United States, the question is raised

Archbishop Oscar Romero
Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero is best known as a martyr of the Salvadorian people. He was
a person who truly embodied what he preached. During his lifetime, he spoke out for the
voiceless, made an effort to change the Salvadorian society during the war and carried out God s
message without thinking twice. Oscar Arnulfo Romero was born on August 15, 1917 in Ciudad
Barrios, San Miguel, in the eastern part of El Salvador (Brockman 30). His father was Santos
Romero, a telegraph operator and his mother was Guadalupe de Jesus(Brockman 30). He grew up
in El Salvador, a country in Central America and lived a very humble lifestyle, in which electricity
and other commodities weren t missed. He grew up with seven brothers and sisters and shared...

Peace is thus the product of justice and love....as long as we see no actions working toward a more
just order in El Salvador, we cannot believe there is a true desire for peace (Brockman 60).
This quote basically sums ups how he went about making his opinion known. He simply voiced
what he believed and that shows that he has a good emotional state and was motivated obviously
by something he strongly believed in. The most prevalent intelligence type in Romero s life
social intelligence because during the whole biography it is clear to asses that his main focus
was helping those who couldn t help themselves, speaking out for those who couldn t speak up
and reaching out to those looked over. He had a way of understanding and relating to the society
he was a part of and this might be due to the way in which he was raised which was in a very
humble, typical style. He could relate to those who he was reaching out to help. Other types of
intelligences he had were emotional intelligence because he could empathize with the people
and also verbal intelligence because he had an excellent use of words to get his point across as is
evident in his homilies and letters. Overall, Oscar Romero s intelligence played an important role
on his self concept and his relationship with others. Archbishop Oscar Romero s self concept I
think is pretty good because he isn t afraid to go against the norm and stand up for what

In all of the previous rebellions we ve studied women weren t as involved. If women were
mentioned, they were on the sidelines at home or being used as pawns such as in the Pueblo
Revolt or Bacon s Rebellion. For once, to my knowledge, men were not the key player who
started the rebellion. It was angry, starving women who took charge and this switch in gender
roles is, for me, monumental. However, once I researched the bread riot in depth I realized that
the rioters main objective was not food, but finery. The true happenings of the bread riot is
entangled in numerous story versions. The first was that the bread rioters were solely women. In
the primary documents I discovered that the made consisted of women, men, and children. There is
not a consensus on the amount of people involved in the riot. Some sources claim sixty people
while John Jones claimed that the number continued to swell until they were more than a thousand
. None of the three stories mentions a woman waving a skeleton arm screaming We celebrate our
right to live! We are starving! Nor do they mentioned the crowd chanting Bread or Blood! The
presence of President Davis is somewhat questionable. Two out the three accounts places President
Davis, however, in Sallie Putnam the

Doing School Summary
Denise Pope Clark, author of Doing School, went to Faircrest High School in order to study the
behaviors and habits students, teachers, and parents use to ensure success in the school system. I
am going to analyze each claim she made and determine if they are accurate or not based on my
own experiences. Pope begins by explaining the habits used to get ahead by students and
categorizes them under an umbrella she calls Doing School . The habits she identifies are
establishing allies and treaties, multi tasking, cheating, and being what she calls a squeaky wheel .
See the writing task above for a more in depth definition of these terms. Bear in mind that Pope
doesn t use any numerical data, just her observations from her time at Faircrest High School. I
personally don t see students totally relying on these habits to Do School. In my school
environment, I see students working hard, but only employing these techniques to cut corners
when they don t feel totally committed to a task. Multi tasking and being a squeaky wheel are
common among my student body, but cheating and establishing allies I feel are almost non
existent. I feel if Pope went to multiple schools, instead of just Faircrest, she would have a better
understanding of how most students Do School. The next item Pope discusses is the Grade Trap .
The Grade Trap is essentially the cycle of students knowing, but not learning, the material they need
to for the time being and then moving on and forgetting the

The Manor System Thrived In The Middle Ages
The manor system is an economic arrangement between both the lords and the serfs. There is a
mutual agreement between them. This was a basic economic system that thrived in the Middle
Ages. During these times, the manor was the lord s property. This is where he would live and
thrive. The lord s were high on the feudal pyramid which meant they were almost as great as
kings. They would give land out in exchange for a bond. This may be raising farmland or having
military protection. The people in these places were called vassals and kept the manor system
moving. The manors would be like small towns. The peasants that lived on the manor would
never stray more than 25 miles away in their lifetime. Usually there may be 15 30 families living
on a manor at a time. A manor may have a church, farms, a house for lord although there were
workshops as well throughout the manor. Furthermore, these communities were very self
sufficient, and this benefited the lords greatly. The serfs and peasants have to work and provide
things such as crops, milk and cheese, fuel, cloth, leather goods, and lumber. All of these items
were needed for the lord s daily life. Certain items had to be purchased from the outside due to it
not being available in their area.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feudalism captivates over the lord s giving certain rights and land in return for work. These
workers would provide all the items needed for these places to survive. Although these peasants
worked a lot, their lives were very tough. These individuals have to pay enormous taxes for
everything. They had to pay a church tax, this was further known as a tithe, and consisted of 10
percent of their pay. They also had to pay taxes for grains many tried to avoid this but,
nevertheless it was a crime in these times. There was also a tax on marriage as well as having the
need for consent from the lord on these marriages. The lives of the peasants were very tough in these

How Does Napoleon Use Power In Animal Farm
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world (Mandela).
Napoleon realizes this truth and takes full advantage of it early on in the story. In George Orwell
s allegorical novel Animal Farm, Napoleon seizes control of the now independent farm. He allows
the pigs to be educated and excludes the others. However, he personally educates some puppies,
foreseeing them as a powerful weapon to gain full authority over the animalsand to reduce distrust
that could lead to revolt. As he continues to rule, he acquires more power and he uses it to violate
and change laws so that they best benefit him and his reign. Napoleon s main focus in ruling

Fortunately for him, he already wields the power of education, enabling him to rise almost
effortlessly to power; With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume
leadership (pg. 21). This is a subtle infraction of the principles clearly stated in the commandments
of Animalism. Equality is supposed to apply to everyone and every situation, but the animals are
accustomed to having a leader, therefore, it is second nature for them to rely on a person higher
than them. Sadly for the majority of the naГЇve animals, the pigs ascend to power simply because
the weapon of education is pointing at them and they are found weaponless and unable to defend
themselves. Animalism is turned into an oligarchy, rule by the elite, in this case the pigs are the
elite because they are more educated than the animals. Napoleon not only wants power over the
lowly farm animals, but he seeks absolute control over the entire farm, including the remaining
pigs. To do this, he again takes advantage of the power that lies in education; He said that the
education of the young was more important than anything that could be done for those who were
already grown up (pg. 26). To be a leader, it is vital for

Comparing Daoism And Confucianism
While Daoism and Confucianism are of two different strains of thought they often flow in the same
way like two parallel rivers in governance in aspects of life, in practice the two systems are often
flow be each other to some degree but never interconnect at any points. Confucianism deals with
social matters, while Taoism concerns itself with the search for meaning. They share common
beliefs about man, society, and the universe, although these notions were around long before either
philosophy. Confucianismand Daoism are the two most influential philosophies in China both

According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family,
community, state, and kingdom, to ensure order and unity. Man s virtue in all its forms is called
ren which would make sense but Daoism does not make much sense the ideology in which the
ideal ruler and government do not interfere in the lives of the people and lead them to prosperity of
primitive simplicity by nonaction and focuses on intuitive spontaneity. It is civilization that has
corrupted humanity from its early state of innocence but realistically as a person or society lives
and ages there is no such thing as innocence as one must grow and learn. The sage practices
nonaction, gives up worldly ambitions, and lives a simple life in accord with nature though that one
does. The dedication to right relationships and a solid social order contrast directly with the inner
direct intuition of Taoism. While both philosophies of Confucianism and Taoism may end up with
the same result in having a healthy society, one is taught and can culminate in results while the
other is impeded by environmental variables and through inaction and exclusiveness may cause

Of Oedipus Rex s Influence On The Number 23
Oedipus Rex s Influence on The Number 23
Julia A. Meade
University of Maine
Oedipus Rex is one of the first tragedies in theatre history to be recorded, and to have survived for
present day society to appreciate. Written by one of three ancient greek playwrights, Sophocles,
this performance has paved the way for many other pieces of work (Brockett Ball, 2014). One such
work from contemporary times, The Number 23, a movie starring Jim Carrey, appears to follow a
similar, if not the same, plot as Oedipus Rex. Both pieces of work start in the middle of the
trouble; The play starts in the middle of a deathly illness that has spread across the kingdom of
Thebes, which Oedipus is ruler of, and the movie starts with Walter reading a book that seems
oddly similar to his own life. Oedipus is tasked with finding out who murdered the previous king,
since the god Apollo told Creon, Oedipus brother in law, that the murderer is the abomination in
Thebes that has caused the illness. Walter becomes obsessed with the main character of the book
he received from his wife, whose life revolves around the number 23. He tasks himself with
finding out more about the author of the book, since he believes the book was somehow written
about his own life. Both of these characters become investigators to find the truth. In Walter s
journey he finds more and more details of the book that fit details in his own life. In the book are
characters Fingerling and Isabel whom, both,

Alice Monroe Boys And Girls
How would you react when someone forces expectations on to you that you disagree with?
Would you try to reason with them, or just give in and act the way they expect of you? In the
short story Boys and Girls by Alice Monroe has a girl go through and answer that question in her
story. At first disagreeing, after being pressures by the people in her family she gives in to the
ideas that others had set on her. The life of the narrator conveys the idea that an individual may
have to conform to the rolls society sets on them.
At first, the narrator disagrees with how her family expects her to be. Specifically, her mother
expectations, as she is the most direct stating I just get my back turned and she runs off. It s not
like I had a girl in the family at all. The narrator instead of working with her mother inside their
house prefers to work out doors in her father s fox farm. Directly conflicting with how her mother

tipping point, where she stops rebelling and give ins. When she opens the gate it symbolizes her
will to ignore the pressure being set on her leaving. At night what was her favorite time of the
day changes. When she tells her self stories at they start the same, but end up focusing on how
long her hair was, or what kind of dress she had. They no longer have the same excitement they
once had. As the story ends they find out that she was the one that let flora out. The narrator

Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead
To what extent did the author Tom Stoppard prove in his play a certain parallel or recurring events
to be significant. Tom Stoppard used certain recurring events to be significant like the coin
flipping, the discussion about death, and the confusion about Ros and Guil s identity and who they
are. Each of these recurring events prove in Tom Stoppard s play a certain events to be significant.
The coin flipping, begins in the beginning of the play. It can either come up heads or it can come
up tails. coins appear throughout the play and symbolize the forces of mortality that control human
life and render human free will meaningless. but the play quickly reveals that there is nothing
fantastical about such odds: they are in fact the odds of human will against death. Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are moving towards an inescapable fate. Audience members are aware of this from the

Stoppard demands that the questions be seriously considered in a play that is equal parts comedy
and philosophy. Stoppard does not seem to intend to provide any definite answers to the questions
he poses because doing so would cheapen the experience. All of these events in some way show
the randomness of life or its inevitable end. They are never able to explain the significance of any
event or come to any conclusion on anything, but in the end it didn t matter. They were always
going to meet the same end, regardless of their own understanding or lack of it. Their actions and
ultimate end reflect humankind s struggle to find meaning and rationalize its existence while
simultaneously being destined to die, unable to escape mortality by any means. From the very
beginning of the play, there is a sense of confinement and inescapability, and the boat perfectly
represents the title pair s entrapment in their unavoidable

Christian Brothers Academy
I can surely say that my senior year would not be nearly as enjoyable without the GURU program.
The ability to facilitate an engaging discussion with not one but two groups of freshmen at
Christian Brothers Academy is something I look forward to every cycle. By discussing some
relatively controversial subject topics with these freshmen, I put myself in a role model position,
one to influence positive decision making in order for these kids to make their own transition into
AcademyMen, to really make the most out of their four years at CBA. I have learned a lot about
the ten freshmen that I oversee. I can say that I know each of them pretty well now. But finally, I

Also, it definitely affects my worldview with God and my Christian morality in the context of a
LaSallian school. We owe everything that we have become to God, and personally I owe a lot
to Christian Brothers Academy for making me the Academy Man that I am today. Moreover, I
see myself as a liaison between these freshmen and the CBA faculty, staff, and family in order
for them to eventually transform themselves in their lives while keeping God as a major focus.
By embracing my own self value through Christian morality, I must also encourage these
freshmen that they are valuable because of their relationship with God in this LaSallian school,
exemplifying the teachings of St. John Baptist de La Salle. As an example, Peck States in The
Road Less Traveled, this feeling of being valuable is a cornerstone of self discipline because
when one considers oneself valuable one will take care of oneself in all ways that are necessary.
Self discipline is self caring (Peck 24). Self discipline is so important in my own life, and I look
to teach the freshmen the importance of it as well. My own relationship with God is one based on
self caring, the petitioning for forgiveness and the constant gratification that goes along with it.
When it comes down to it, we all have the free will to believe what we want to believe, however, it
is integral to these

  • 5. How Diversity Makes Us Smarter By Katherine W Phillips I believe that Diversity plays important roles in our lives. Without diversity, we cannot widen our field of view. Diversity helps us to open up our eyes and our world. From reading the essay How diversity makes us smarter , written by Katherine W Phillips, I learned that there are some negative effects brought up by the social diversity where dialog of inclusion is advanced, but mostly diversity is something that has positive effect in our society and even individual. I could also reflect and make connection with my experience of moving from non diverse community to diverse community. I was born in Japan and spent my life there until seventh grade. Even though my environment was very fulfilling, my community had little diversity. Everyone was from the same area, we all have same culture, and same race. Individual could had variety of thought but our basic mind was very similar since we all grow up in the same environment. I can say that I had little more diversity in my life than other people around me since my mother was Korean, I had some Korean people around me. Korea is a country located right next to Japan, but they do have different culture, language, and people. It gave me a little push to become diverse person. However, there was a big change when I moved to America as an international student in seventh grade. For the first time in my life, I was surrounded by people who were not my people . When I walked into the class, everyone had different race, culture, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reducing High School Dropouts In the education system today, competition for scholarships and acceptance into college is increasingly competitive. In order to access to these advantageous opportunities, students in high school work diligently in order to maintain high grades. As a consequence, distractions, and even worse, falling behind, can be disastrous. Many of these said distractions however, are fellow students themselves. Just as many students strive for excellence, others barely pass for mediocracy, and they drag diligent students down in their apathy of school. In order to remove these distractions, it could be suggested that by lowering the high schooldropoutage, it would benefit studious students by removing those who don t wish to be attending school.... One of these reasons is that they do not believe that allowing a juvenile to decide such a defining moment in their life without parental consent. Continuing Personal and Professional Development Task 1: The role of a teacher has changed considerably over the years in the past the teacher may have been perceived as being the fountain of all knowledge and the purveyor of information. I would like to think we are still the fountain of all knowledge but the way we deliver our courses has changed considerably. We no longer stand at the front of the class with rows and rows of learners sitting waiting for us to transmit the information to them. As a teacher we are now the facilitator of knowledge. Our job is to guide the learners and allow them to take responsibility for there own learning. We are less likely to have students in rows in front of us and more likely to have ... Abstract conceptualization is when we come to a decision about what we would do differently next time. The way we would come to a decision is through further studying or staff development and reading the right literature. Active experimentation is the conclusion of our abstract conceptualization stage and provides the platform that we can plan our changes. Once we have administered these changes we can then start the cycle again and have some new concrete experiences. Kolb also described how Lewin s action research and T group training in laboratories was influenced by the concept of feedback that was used by electrical engineers. This feedback process involved concrete experience; observations and reflections; formation of abstract concepts and generalizations; and testing implications of concepts in new situations . The similarities with Kolb s learning cycle (Beard, Colin; Wilson, John P.. Experiential Learningp.32) One of the things that first brought my attention to this book was that I was looking for some inspiration on reflective practices in engineering which is my field and it s for this reason that I discovered this section. Gibbs Reflective Cycle Professor Graham Gibbs has came illustrated his six stage cycle of reflection. In order for learning to take place Gibbs believes that the cycle below must be completed. ... • 9. Tale Of Two Cities Allusions Charles Dickens is universally perceived as one of the excellent authors in literature. A Tale of Two Cities is one of Dickens most precise novels, and is also exceptionally fast paced. Dickens chose to publish it in weekly portions, and there s consistently ample action to keep readers captivated. Dickens, we find throughout history, always had a knack for the dramatic, and it s undoubtedly presented in this novel. This type of appealing style and approach is demonstrated in A Tale of Two Cities through the use of symbols and allusions, while also clearly presenting the overarching theme of the book: Resurrection. • 10. Environment And DAPL Lectures For my event immersion, I chose to attend two different lectures. Specifically, the power of knowledge: higher education, reintegration and liberation, as well as the environment/DAPL lecture. Both lectures served as a reminder of what is necessary towards a focus on education in society. I decided to look at both lectures because of my interest in how the two potentially collide based off an interesting that I had personally. Socialization is one aspect of the conversation that does not necessarily come forth, but holds a large degree of relevance. The significance of these lectures is that they all revolve around a need for people to be more understanding of one another through education. Education serves as a vehicle that helps people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issue here is based on the fact that socialization ultimately works in hand with education and it applies the identities. That is, Harro (2008) found that identities are ascribed to us at birth through no effort or decision or choice of our own (p. 46). Considering this, it becomes increasingly difficult to create a us vs them scenario. When in reality, it is two groups of people who have grown up believing two different ideologies, and there is not really any type of dynamic change that is associated with this conversation. The contrast of these two conversations only add to the ongoing understanding of how difficult it is to have a difference if any. The more important conversation that is occurring here is ultimately how can one bridge the gap of knowledge and conversation that is occurring here. Society currently stands at odds due in part to the fact that there is a gap in knowledge and socialization is at the heart of it. In the instances provided by both lecturers, they are tied by the fact that there is no real manner upon which their issues can be resolved because socialization ultimately acts as the judge and jury. They are both looking to bridge the gap between the two parties at odds that have developed. However, as Harro stated, there isn t a realistic solution due in part to the fact that socialization is so significant in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Redemption In Schindler s List Never shall I forget the feeling of anticipation when the little boy in Schindler s List is looking for a hiding spot and, when it came to desperate measures, the boy had to hide in the latrine. The boy s daring actions at survival show how he feels about life and death and make the viewers question whether if they were in his position would they commit the same act. The boy starts out standing in a herd of children, the other children are oblivious to what is going on and blindly go into the cattle cars thinking they are going on a field trip. There are a few other children who know that everything will not be sweet at the new destination so they escape to a hiding place. Some of these children are not successful when planning their escape, but this little boy is. The boy stealthily runs the other direction into the place of residence to find a hiding place. The first place the boy looks is under the metal floorboard, to his dismay, he finds children hiding underneath. The next place the boy looks is in a chimney, he finds another child hiding and the child immediately closes the door. The anticipation grows because the viewers know that the child is at a ... People that are dying because of lack of food, shelter, and medical attention is bad. Singer believes that if we can do something that prevent from happening without sacrificing anything, then do it. • 14. Summary Of The Most Dangerous GameAndPorphyria s Lover IntroFrom the beginning men used God to justify the unjustifiable. Salman Rushdie, The Satanic Verses. Salman Rushdie points are truly stated and are seen in literature work. The two stories The Most Dangerous Game and Porphyria s Lover , both portray the characters, General Zaroff and Porphyria s Lover, as murderers who think they have done nothing wrong. The authors Connell and Browning use conflict and characterization to convey that some find it easy to justify murder. DP 1Through the use of external conflict between Zaroff and Rainsford s hunting prowess, and Porphyria s Lover strangling Porphyria, the authors show how each can easily justify murder. • 15. Examining Four Types of Diversity Essay examples While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to all the qualities that make people different. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is to understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact on individualbehavior will be described. One type of diversity is occupation. For example, an individual in a professional occupation is more likely to make his or her own decisions and is also more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same employee may have had close relationships with subordinates before they became supervisor. This example shows how occupation impacts behavior and how a change in position can alter individual behavior. The next type of diversity is differences in skills and abilities. One of the most important factors when considering skills and abilities is that individuals will often adapt their behavior so they are making use of what they consider their positive skills and abilities. For example, consider the case of an individual who believes that they have very effective written communication skills but very poor oral communication skills. This individual is likely to adapt his or her behavior so they write as much as possible, while avoiding communicating orally. As a specific example, this individual might prepare memos or write emails as a way of communicating with their employees, instead of having a meeting with employees. This illustrates how people tend to adapt their behavior so they are using their positive qualities, while avoiding having to use their weaker skills and abilities. Another type of diversity is personality traits. Personality traits are defined as recurring patterns of behavior such as friendliness, social dominance, conventionality, emotional adjustment, and aesthetic inclination (Seamon Kenrick, 1994). As this definition shows, personality traits are actually defined because of the observed behavior they result in. The link ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because we are in many ways at the beginning stages of technology advancement and many of the modern day systems used by the military are relatively new it is difficult to predict the likelihood that a specific system will be vulnerable to attacks and exploitation. Therefore, it is necessary to always be prepared for it. As Bill Blunden, an author who investigates and writes on the topic of cyberwar stated, the absence of historical data makes it nearly impossible to analytically calculate the probability of a genuine cyber Armageddon (2014). Past exploitations of military cyber systems and their consequences History shows that military cyber systems can be attacked from external and internal threats. In 2008 a flash drive infected with malicious code spread throughout the system once an internal user connected it to a military laptop, allowing the attacker unhindered access to information on both unclassified and classified networks. It is suspected to have been planted by a foreign intelligence agency and moved the Department of Defense to implement a new cybersecurity strategy (Mills, 2008). In March of 2015 ISIS gained control of at least 100 military personnel PII and made threats, asking American supporters to commit Jihadist attacks against these personnel. But it can also be a very challenging field too, especially since your subject is often running away from you! I m going to share with you 15 of my top tips so that you can start improving your wildlife photos straight away. Hopefully by the end of this article you ll have learnt something new that will help you on your journey to becoming the next Art Wolfe. 1. Shoot on Eye level When you re standing up and shooting an animal on the ground, your angle of view is pointing downwards. This detracts from the photo, making the perspective seem strange. It also decreases the distance between the subject and the background, getting rid of your chance for that nice, soft bokeh (background). Instead, get onto eye level with your subject. It brings the viewer down onto the animal s level, creating a much more interesting perspective. It will most likely increase the distance between the subject and the background too, removing distracting elements by throwing the backdrop out of focus. 2. Learn About Your Subject Getting to know the animal you re photographing can be a really helpful trick. If you know about an animal s typical behavioural traits, then you will be able to predict movements or particular things you can focus on capturing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cost Of Cost Costing Procedure costing is utilized when there is large scale manufacture of comparative items, where the expenses connected with individual units of yield can t be separated from one another. Under this idea, expenses are amassed over a settled time of time, abridged, and after that designated to the greater part of the units delivered amid that time of time on a predictable premise. At the pointwhen items are rather being produced on an individual premise, occupation costing is utilized to amass costsand appoint the expenses to items. • 30. What Is The Idea Of Voltaire The Ideas of Voltaire David Zakharian 9/24/2017 The Ideas of Voltaire The enlightenment can be described as an era where people took the ideas and methods of the scientific revolution, and tired to see if there was a way to find the natural laws that govern the universe and human society. People looked through a new lens and questioned the basic presumptions of an idea to come to a better understanding of things. People asked questions about why things functioned the way they do. Many philosophers attempted to find the solutions of problems people faced by using reason. These thinkers tried to make life for people in Europe better. They explored political representation, the natural rights of man, the ideals of how to find a ruler, what limits rulers should have, the ideals of religion, and how society could be beneficial for everybody. What happened was a progression of ideas during this period of time. One major philosopher of this era includes Voltaire, his ideas included support of civil rights like freedom of speech, disapproval of authority, opposition to the Church, and deism. His idea of disapproval of authority stemmed from his distrust in democracy. In his opinion, a monarch should be advised by wise and educated people to make decisions. During his time, most people were uneducated and illiterate. That is why Voltaire dismissed the idea of democracy, his only view of functioning government was based on educated and honest people. His model of an ideal government would be an enlightened monarch that had philosophers as his advisors who would counterbalance his desire for more power and wealth at the cost of society. Furthermore, another belief he had was deism. This was associated with his disapproval of how corrupt churches were. Voltaire considered churches to be hypocrites. For example, priests would take vows of celibacy, but still give into their desires. Besides that, stealing is considered a sin. It was common for clergy to use the ignorance and naivety of simple people to take their possessions. Voltaire thought that clergy were unneeded, since they were corrupt along with royalty. In recent times, the introduction and spread of invasive species has transformed native communities rapidly and, in some cases, created irreversible damages. In the Earth s history, changes have often occurred in the ecosystems. For example, glaciersand the retreat of glaciers cause wide spread changes. According to Van Driesche, nonnative species are more likely to establish if they invade habitats with lowered biotic resistance, encounter prey with poorly developed mechanisms of self defense, or invade habitats unaccompanied by their specialized natural enemies or when their invasion is facilitated by earlier invaders (2000). Damage to these communities, then, can be seen both in cumulative effects and in a cycle of self reinforcement. Although pristine environments are still at risk from invasion, this positive feedback loop makes habitats already with a disturbance by exotics even more vulnerable to other invasions. With the increasing amount of disturbed habitats, invasive species could soon become the leading cause of ecological degradation (SoulГ© Orians, 2001). Invasive species can alter habitats in a number of ways. Changes in the physical structure of the land are the most visually obvious. Examples include narrowing stream channels, reducing sand supply to dunes, and stabilizing surfaces such as mudflats, and each invasive species goes about these changes in their own way. For instance, the burrowing activities of Australian isopods cause the banks of tidal channels to collapse, leading to the widening of channels and the loss of vegetated salt marsh (Cox, 1999). • 35. Zimbabwe s Struggle For Human Rights Abuses Introduction In the modern diamond market, there is a plethora of minerals waiting to be mined. Within Africa s southern region, Zimbabwe has found diamonds to be a vital commodity in sustaining the country. In order to reach these minerals, mining companies must find a steady supply of labor to mine and sort the diamonds before they are later sold rough in wholesale to dealers, distributed to be cut, polished, and turned into jewelry at manufacturing plants, and marketed by retailers to finally be sold to customers. (Levin, 2014, p.24). Zimbabwe s main mine is Marange Field, a mine run by the government that handles unofficial conflict diamonds diamonds used to finance rebellious wars. (Nicholas, 2012, p.650) Although technically conflict free under the Kimberly Process, Zimbabwe over the past 15 years has continued to commit human rights abuses. Allowed by Zimbabwe s government influence and the high supply of desperate families living in poverty available to mine for the precious gems, a thriving international industry emerged. This control of desperation allows producers of Marange Fields to use forced labor within the supply chain. (Baker, 2015, p. 65) Although Zimbabwe is by the United Nations definition providing conflict free diamonds, it is evident that individuals are being trafficked and abused in the mining stage of production. Research reveals systematic methodologies of trafficking within the Marange Fields mine and how regulations within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Heroin Negative Effects What are the negative effects of Heroin usage? Heroin is a very addicting drug that if abused bad enough, can be very hard to control. The user can learn how to control the thoughts or behaviors that may have once led to the craving of the drug. Heroin is a short acting opioid. In other words, it takes effect rapidly, however, it leaves the bloodstream quickly. The NHTSA estimates that heroinwithdrawal symptoms start within six to twelve hours of the last dose and it lasts five to ten days in total. There are dozens of symptoms Heroin causes. Symptoms may only last a week approximately, however symptoms can be severe. Some of these include bad teeth, cold sweats, weakening of the immune system, coma, loss of memory, etc. There are a collection of other symptoms but those are the most common. Withdrawal from heroin is not generally considered life threatening on its own. However, some of the medical and psychological symptoms may have complications. For someone who did not abuse heroin in massive doses, withdrawal may be more tempered and not last as long. When heroin is abused, a rush of pleasure occurs, and when it is removed, the opposite effect happens. Heroin binds to opioid receptors, which increases chemicals in the brain that are responsible for feelings of pleasure. Heroin is an opioid drug that suppresses some of the functions of the central nervous system. For example, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration and temperature regulation. Someone with a history of mental illnesses or addiction to other drugs may be more likely to become more dependent on the drug taste. The longer someone uses heroin, how it was abused, and how much was taken each time will all be factors in how dependent the brain and body are to the drug. In the past decade, the CDC reports that abuse has doubled for Americans aged eighteen to twenty five. In 2013, it is estimated that eighteen thousand two hundred people have died from a heroin overdose, which is close to four times the number of heroin related overdose fatalities in 2002. Heroin may be a cheaper alternative to powerful and addictive drugs such as Oxycontin and Vicodin. CNN has reported that close to half of injection heroin users abused a ... Different Methods Of Qualitative Research This essay will look at the qualitative approaches to research and look into more detail at the main traditions and theoretical approaches to qualitative research, the main research methods associated with qualitative research; and the main criticisms that are frequently levelled at qualitative research. There are many different definitions of qualitative research; one definition that defines it well is; a means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically collected in the participant s setting. (Creswell, J. 2009) There are many different methods of qualitative research and the approaches used include narrative, phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. The narrative approach retells a person s story across time; it explores what the story means and the lessons to be learnt from it. The goal of phenomenological research is to describe participants experiences in a specific context and understand a phenomenon. Grounded theory research looks at a process, an action or an interaction with the goal of developing a theory. The researcher attempts to derive a general, abstract theory of a process, action, or interaction grounded in the views of participants in a study. This process involves using multiple stages of data collection and the refinement and interrelationship of categories of information (Strauss Corbin, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason you want to avoid 3,6, and 7 are because those are the numbers that still contain BPA. The number 3 contains PVC plastic that usually used as peanut butter jars and squeeze bottles. The plastic numbered 6 is made with polystyrene. The Chemical is normally found in things such as styrofoam trays. Last number 7 are non recyclable and are made with polycarbonate. Aging Adults And Substance Abuse Monica Neumann Gerontology Fall 2015 As we read through this literature review, we will outline some of the findings from the most recent research from 2010 2015. The focus is on aging adults and substance abuse in the United States. The use of alcohol, and prescription medications among this population, also known as the Baby Boomers is a major concern. One focus will be on the prevalence of substance abuse (alcohol and prescription use) and the consequences both mentally and physically. Being apart of the aging population and substance abuse this can lead to misdiagnosing and treating substance abuse among the elderly. The Baby Boomer population is growing rapidly here in the United Sates and the issues of substance abuse and misuse among older adults is a concern. The prevalence of substance use among this population is increasing and the most common substances used are alcohol, prescription medications and over the counter medications. Continued use of alcohol and prescription drugs, we tend to see a rise in the number of older adults admitted to the hospital, with that comes higher healthcare costs. With the growing concern over the physical and mental health effects of substance abuse as the population of older adults continues to rise, the question is whether there are going to be enough treatment options available for this age group and if so, what type of treatment is best. The habits she identifies are establishing allies and treaties, multi tasking, cheating, and being what she calls a squeaky wheel . The lord s were high on the feudal pyramid which meant they were almost as great as kings. They would give land out in exchange for a bond. This may be raising farmland or having military protection. Written by one of three ancient greek playwrights, Sophocles, this performance has paved the way for many other pieces of work (Brockett Ball, 2014). One such work from contemporary times, The Number 23, a movie starring Jim Carrey, appears to follow a similar, if not the same, plot as Oedipus Rex. Both pieces of work start in the middle of the trouble; The play starts in the middle of a deathly illness that has spread across the kingdom of Thebes, which Oedipus is ruler of, and the movie starts with Walter reading a book that seems oddly similar to his own life. Oedipus is tasked with finding out who murdered the previous king, since the god Apollo told Creon, Oedipus brother in law, that the murderer is the abomination in Thebes that has caused the illness.
