The Pros And Cons Of Eating
Kohen looked up at the waitress. She was about their age, maybe a little older, with sandy blond
hair streaked with a purple that matched the plasma flow beneath her. She had striking green eyes
that complemented her flushed cheeks and wore a short black skirt with buttons on the side with a
vibrant, tight red blouse.
Meford ordered a Professor s Regret right off the bat and asked for a menu. Kohen smiled, guess
he wasn t planning to take it easy tonight for there was no stronger drink. The Professor s Regret
was a concoction of various liqueurs and a fizzy tab that makes it feel like drinking bubbly air. It
was an awesome drink, but Kohen was planning to take it easy so he ordered one pint of the daily
draft and got a menu too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I guess the residents of our fair city still do need a place to unwind and kick back, Kohen replied.
Indeed, and what about that waitress! Whoa, where else in our fair city are you going to find a
girl like that? Mmm, purple hair and revealing attire, Meford said adoringly.
It was true most people inside Minerva did dress what would seem more conservatively, but it
was just more practical attire. The clothes that the waitress was wearing were hard to come by and
were part of the atmosphere of the Solstice. People came here to escape the glowing and humming
of the force fields and the scholastic life they had chosen and cherished.
Half way through their dinner and two Professor s Delights later for Meford, the chandelier
doors opened and entered Bergess and three of her best friends. The four of them were hardly
ever seen apart and were the envy and desire of every patron in Solstice. Eyes of jealous
girlfriends and wanting boyfriends darted back and forth from the door to the company they had
come with. Meford being a little tipsy slapped Kohen on the shoulder and said a little too loud,
She s here man, make your move.
Kohen glanced over to the door where the ladies had arrived only to see them disappear into the
crowd towards the bar. Kohen, not wanting to make a scene, told Meford to lower his voice and
play it cool. Meford apologized and took another bite of his tuber. Kohen took another sip of his
beer and slowly chewed his salad

Margaret Atwood s Surfacing Essay
Margaret Atwood s Surfacing
Throughout the book the narrator constantly intertwines the past and present as though it is side
by side. Atwood shows this in the opening sentence I can t believe I m on this road again . The
use of the adjective again reveals the narrator has been in this place in an earlier life. The narrator
seems to repress a lot of her past and continuously contradicts herself, which at times confuses the
reader as we can not tell whether she is talking about her past or her present and whether she
regards it as home as she says Now were on home ground foreign territory .
This links in with one of the key divisions in the story between the
Americans and the Canadians that is portrayed throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This links in with when the narrator says I never identified it as mine and all the time it was in
me I felt like an incubator , as a mother she should not be feeling this way suggesting she lacks the
emotional intelligence as a nurturer and a lover, which is ironic as later we find she never actually
gave birth to this child.
Another key point of the narrators division from her emotion is when she refers to her child as it .
This impersonal singular pronoun reiterates the protagonist s lack of sentiment. This also links in
with chapter 3 as the narrator reveals her relationship with Joe as predominantly sexual cool he
called it, was the way I took off my clothes and put them on again later very smoothly as if I wee
feeling no emotion reiterating her lack of emotion/affection.
In chapter three we see the conflict between the two languages of
French and English starting to arise. On page twenty we see the first utterance occurring when the
waitress in the restaurants utters
Amburger impersonating the protagonist s English dialect. The narrator then states This is border
country . In this simple sentence it is clear to see the notion of division twenty protagonist holds.
The protagonist seems to be somewhat paranoid as to whether she belongs in this place.
Again on page t we see the narrator being placed in a paradoxical position when she thinks if you
live in a place you should speak the language. But this isn t where I

Similarities and Differences in the Rise of the Roman and Mayan Civilizations
Between 600 BCE and 600 CE, the Mayan Civilization in Mesoamerica and the Roman
Civilization rose to the height of their power. Rome was rapidly growing as a Republic and then
Empire, creating a legacy throughout Europe and Asia that would leave a lasting impact for
centuries. The Empire conquered land by use of political force, religious unity, and maintaining
power through a strong economy. The Mayans were heavily based around religion. It was used as
a motivation to expand their civilization, gaining political power and a strong economy. However,
they were not considered an Empire due to decentralization of government. The rise of the Mayans
and the Romans differed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mayan political system was divided into city states, where each had their own government,
similarly to Ancient Greece. During the rise of the civilization, a social hierarchy was created,
with religious figures and priests at the top granting them political power. This allowed for
society to be dominated by religion, and for political figures to use religion to monopolize
power and support. The Mayans expanded their civilization to gain more human sacrifices, or in
the name of their religion, opposed to the Romans who expanded for political power. However,
the Romans had very centralized systems of government. During the rise of the Republic, the
new ideology of democracy and the defeat of the Persian Empire in the Persian War allowed for a
societal belief in a strong government to rise. The Roman people believed that they have a strong
centralized government, and people became increasingly greedy for power. Change occurred in
Roman political power during the rise of the Empire. When Alexander the Great expanded the
Roman Empire to the height of its political control by conquering nations throughout Europe and
Asia, the greed for power is evident. The centralization of the Roman government allowed for
expansion of the Empire through economic and religious growth, monopolizing control of trade
throughout its territory and spreading religious ideology through the enforced religious unity and

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson
All people deal with emotions in everyday life and most will have problems controlling their
emotions at some point in time. However, when emotions get out of hand people can start having
problems in their daily life. In August Wilson s play Fences, he uses his piece to explain that
someone unable to control their actions caused by selfish, hatred, or angry emotions will cause
issues in one s personal life, general decisions, and in family life. Wilson hopes to target people
who can t control their emotions and wishes to prevent the negative effects of uncontrolled actions
caused by negative emotion. The inability to control one s emotions can harm their friends, decision
making, and family.
Wilson main reason of writing the play is to show the audience that uncontrolled emotion can be
harmful in one s life. In Wilson s play, he uses the character Troy, a man who is a married man
with a rough history and has anger issues. Troy personal life is heavily influenced by his emotion
especially the anger from his past. Troy spends the majority of the play stating that he was
unable to play baseball due to his race even though he claims to be better than the majority of
players playing at the time. All through the play, Troy told Rose his wife, Cory, and Bano about
how if he was white he would be a professional baseball player and how his life would be better
(1.1.80 90). The main reason Wilson has Troy behave that way is to show how being angry in the
past will hurt one s

Changing Nyc s Unemployment Rate
Changing NYC s Unemployment Rate New York City is one of the most populous cities in the
world. With the massive amount of people who call New York City home, there is a need for a
vast amount of job opportunities. Unemployment is one of the major problems that the people in
New York City face. Finding a job can be stressful and hard. In order to combat the increasing
unemployment rate in New York City, there needs to be more help for students in college, new
federal programs that will create new jobs, and lower taxes on businesses. Education is known as a
pathway to many new job opportunities, hence creating a need for a postsecondary degree in order
to obtain employment. A high schooldiploma is a prerequisite for many entry level jobs. There are
numerous public schools in New York City that offer twelve years of education free to students
from all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. After one has graduated from public school, he or
she may want to continue his or her education and go on to college. A college degree opens the
door to more job prospects than would a high school degree. The federal and state governments
offer students money based on students financial need, but the cost of college does not just stop at
the cost of tuition. Students have to pay for room and board, transportation, textbooks and a
multitude of other essentials to cover their everyday needs. All of these costs add up and can
discourage many students from going to college or force students

African American History
In the early 1920s Marcus Garvey captured the interest of many black Americans when he
emphasized black nationalism and black separatism (White et. al. 2012). In 1966, former leader of
the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Stokely Carmichael, echoed Garvey s
philosophy when he coined the term Black Power at a rally in Mississippi (Brown 2014).
Introduced as an oratorical tool, black power urged racepride and race unity to inspire militancy
among black Americans. It was founded on the belief that black survival depended on the
exercise of black power to effect economic and political change in black communities. Alongside
Malcolm X s rhetoric of empowerment and the aggressiveness of groups such as the Black
Panther Party, Carmichael s vision of black power was not representative of integration what he
believed spoke to the problem of blackness (Carmichael 1966).
Interestingly, affirmative action, a then new approach to empowering black Americans, undermined
this basic tenant. It gave African Americans preferential treatment in hiring and school admissions,
which effectually assimilated blacks into majorly white institutions. (Affirmative Action 2014)
Thus, affirmative action adopted a more inclusive philosophy. As such, it is easy to conclude that
these two ideologies lie on opposite sides of the race relations spectrum; that despite originating to
bring about societal justice for African Americans, black power advocates sought their freedoms

The Republic, By Plato Essay
In one of his most widely read texts, the Republic, Plato sets out to explore the very nature of the
concept of Justice, the various forms it takes in the world, and its relevance to the lives of men. As
Socrates states, it is about the way we ought to live (I 352d). The dialogue begins by introducing
the commonly held view of justice, via Thrasymachus, Glaucon and Adeimantus, as the non
performance of certain types of unlawful or antisocial acts. However, the entire treatise quickly
moves on to concentrate on a different meaning of justice, as a form of moral virtue. He wishes to
demonstrate that justice and moralityare interconnected because humans can only achieve a good
life which he claims is the best way to live if they have those things that are desirable in
themselves (II 357b). Therefore Plato s argument, as it sets out to prove the intrinsic value of
living a just life, is neither deontological, nor consequentialist. In the Republic, Plato is arguing for
the transcendent value of justice as a human good, or virtue, which informs and guides moral
conduct. Plato bases his argument on a new and unique understanding of what justice is and how
morally sensitive people are able to learn about the real nature of justice, morality and other virtues.
He believes that it is necessary to grasp the true or intrinsic nature of certain virtues in order to
make accurate judgements about the appropriate way to act in relation to others, justice and the
collective good.

Criticism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales
Edgar Allan Poe s critique of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales states, that any author
who hope to be successful will write poetry and short stories in the same style that he, himself
uses (Poe). Poe s continued popularity prove his ability to write an entertaining story, but what
gives him the right to control another s work of art? He was, without a doubt, an arrogant
person, and believed his way was the only proper way to write. Many may not agree with his
theories on writing, or his need to make others abide by his rules, but there may be something to
his beliefs. His stories, like the The Tell Tale Heart , are packed with emotion and flow beautifully

Looking at The Tell Tale Heart in our textbook (1186), we can see that it is about three and a half
pages long. This meets Poe s length requirement, because it can be read in one sitting. The story
also has a preconceived effect, or unity of effect, throughout. The Tell Tale Heart is a dark story
that deals with murder and guilt. The narrator kills a man because he doesn t like his eye, chops
him up and hides him under the floorboards. There is nothing to misinterpret in this story; the
narrator is a crazy and dangerous man. This leads to the climax, where the narrator starts feeling
guilt for killing the old man. He starts to believe he can hear the man s heart through the
floorboards; The heartbeat gets louder and louder until the narrator can no longer take it. When the
police arrive, he turns himself in just to get away from the beating. With climax being the final
element, Poe has made sure The Tell Tale Heart has everything necessary to be considered a short

A Small Pond And A Big Pond
If you are given a choice, what would you pick to be? A big fish in a small pond or a small fish
in a big pond? Life will give you choices, situations, opportunities that can place you on one side
or another and suddenly, the path of opportunity appears, the moment where you can escape from
the pond and reach the glory. Could we change that spot where life place us? Could the fish escape
from the pond?
Being born in Santo Domingo put me for many years as the Big fish in the Small Pond Since I
was a kid, one of my passions have been to write, at the age of 7 I sent an article to a Children s
magazine in Santo Domingo called Al Compas sharing my point of views in my article I was

At the end of High School I received the Student Excellence Award and won a scholarship to

wanted to focus on copywriting or TV production. Then one day through the passion of a very

Thus, while the obligation regarding a genuine link was maintained in the 1958 Convention, the
proposal that the existence of a genuine link should be a basis for the recognition of nationality

more effective implementation of the duties of the flag State, and not to establish criteria by
reference to which the validity of the registration of ships in a flag State may be challenged by

Circus Persuasive Speech
Summarize Written Text 1. A herd of elephants flies past you at sixty miles perhour, followed by
a streak of tigers, a pride of lions, and a bunch of clowns. What do you see? It must be a circus
train! One of the first uses of the circus train is credited to W.C. Coup. He partnered with P.T.
Barnum in 1871 to expand the reach of their newly combined shows using locomotives. Before
circus trains, these operators had to lug around all of their animals, performers, and equipment
with a team of more than 600 horses. Since there were no highways, these voyages were rough
and took a long time. Circuses would stop at many small towns between the large venues.
Performing at many of these small towns was not very profitable. Because of these limitations,
circuses could not grow as large as the imaginations of the operators. After they began using circus
trains, Barnum and Coup only brought their show to large cities. These performances were much
more profitable and the profits went toward creating an even bigger and better circus. Multiple
rings were added and the show went on. Today, Ringling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

similar word ninja. This probably happened because it was a lot quicker and easier to just say

Pornography, Erotica, and Nude Art – There Is a Difference...
Pornography is a subject that has always been argued and stirs up controversy almost anywhere it
may arise. There are people who are against it, and would like to ban all pornography for the
benefit of everyone, while there are those who defend it, claiming it is part of their guaranteed free
speech, to express themselves in a manner of their choosing. With the issue of pornographybeing
debated and spoken of, one major mistake people make is that they look at pornography according
to their own views. Different types of people look at pornography differently, and therefore create
their own definition of pornography in their minds. Usually, pornography tends to be mistaken with

So the students were then allowed to look at the subject s breasts and ponder the importance of
nude art as they made replicas of the woman in a graceful, artistic, position. The students
probably submitted a signed note from their parents to be involved in the sculpture session,
because I do not know of any public school that would allow its students to take part in this type
of class during school hours, on school grounds. The woman s nudity is considered as art
because she is posing for an art class, which was allowed by a public school, although I highly do
not think that it would actually happen. Nude art s purpose is to portray the human body as an art
form, and not an object of sexuality or arousal.
Both pornography and erotica have the main purpose to sexually stimulate people, but
pornography does not show the emotional connection between the individuals involved in the
sexual acts, while erotica does. Erotica is just like nude art, except that erotica possesses no
artistic value, and art does contain an artistic value that is accepted by everyone. There is a form
of art called erotic art that I guess is a mixture of erotica and nude art. But if guidelines were to be
set by the government, art forms that could be on the borderline of erotic art could be easier to
distinguish. Pornography is not classified as nude art at all, and nude art is not pornography.
Pornography just has the sole

Gender Equality And Gender Discrimination Essay
Gender equality? Is it really a time in modern day age when women are considered to be equal to
men or do women still have a long way to go? Throughout history men have been the dominant
gender and women have been thought to be less than the man. Men have held positions of power
and authority while women have hidden in the shadows of men. In the 21st century, women have
made great strides in attempts to be treated equally as men but are still treated differently. This
modern day society believes genderequality exists but in reality, there is clearly an inequality
amongst people creating negative stereotype gender roles, sexually degrading and gender
discrimination towards women. The 21st century has seen a dramatic shift in traditional family
dynamics and has pulled apart gender role divisions. During World War II men dutifully joined
the military and women went to work in the factories, taking on occupations that were traditionally
held by men. When the war ended, women returned to their traditional roles as wives and mothers
(Winograd, 2016). Women began to realize that they too, can carry out roles of the men. As the
years began to change so did the thoughts and ideas of women. Women now believe that men and
women should be treated as equals, and women have every right to be in the position of traditional
men roles. Winograd (2016) explains that women are refusing to accept any restrictions based on
their gender...on what they might be allowed to do and what

Ocean Acidification Essay
To begin, Ocean Acidification is a complex issue that revolves around the pH level of the water
in the oceans. According to Ocean Acidification by Gattuso and Lina Ocean Acidification is a
reduction in the pH of the ocean over an extended period, typically decades or longer, caused
primarily by the uptake of CO 2 from the atmosphere Scientists use the pHscale to describe the
strength of acids and bases. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 with 0 being the most acidic and
14 the most basic. Gattuso and Lina address that, Once dissolved in seawater, CO 2 is a weak
acid which generates a number of changes in seawater chemistry. Furthermore they state, The
ocean pH levels has decreased from approximately 8.2 to 8.1 between pre industrial time and the
1990s, and may reach 7.8 in 2100. The issue of Ocean Acidificationis dependent on the pH levels
of the oceans. The belief is lowered pH levels could cause disastrous effects to the millions of
different types of sea life in the oceans. Scientists believe that a difference in pH levels could
devastate the ecology of the oceans. For example, it is stated by Gattuso Lina that, Changes in the
carbonate chemistry of seawater can have a wide range of effects, some of which may be mediated
through disturbances in the acid base status of affected organisms. As a result, The extracellular pH

Swan Lake Analysis
Matthew Bourne s Swan Lake was first performed at the Sadler Wells Theatre in London in 1995.
Bourne s version of Swan Lake is the longest running ballet in London s West End and on
Broadway. It has been performed in a number different countries such as United Kingdom, Europe,
Australia, South Korea, Japan, Israel and Singapore. Mathew Bourne s rendering is best known for
having traditionally female parts of the swans danced by men. Graeme Murphy version of Swan
Lake is not so much a battle between Odette (Good) and Odile (evil), which is presented through
the original Swan Lake. But it examines love and betrayal, and other elements of the original story.
Through comparing and contrasting Acts 2 and Act 4 of Graeme Murphy s rendering of Swan Lake
and Mathew Bourne s Act 2 and Act 4, this essay will interpret and evaluate how each
choreographer portrays movement and non movement components throughout their piece.
Act 2 By Royal Command, Odette is committed to a sanatorium
Throughout Act 2 by royal command, Odette is determined to a mental institution. Graeme Murphy
effective interprets Movement and non movement components throughout the duration of Act 2. He
uses movement components such as general and personal space, contracting, sustained and
repetition movements. He also interprets Port de bra, Allegro, Chaines and jete. He uses these to
portray the emotion of Odette frustration and here transition into a swan, he also uses abstract and

The appearance of Dover Beach at this time is only of what the human senses can envision. The

Arnold stops to really listen to the sea, he only hears the sea s melancholy, long, withdrawing roar.
(9). Arnold justifies the theory that things are not always what they appear to be. The world only
seems to be beautiful, but is really a place of conflict, chaos and dangerous misunderstandings.
Imagery is the strongest supporter of the theme. A description of the sea in its states of calmness
and roughness are depicted. Sight and sound help intensify other images. The poems strongest
feelings are usually expressed by their imagery, though rhythm is also used to convey meaning.
Arnold uses the first stanza of the poem to create visual, auditory, and olfactory images that will
allow the reader to picture the sea of which the speaker is viewing. Through the use of several
poetic Figures of speech, sounds, and irony of words are also used. Line one; The Sea is calm
tonight (1) has a gentle rhythm that can be compared to the ebb and flow (17) of the sea. With
this description one can imagine a beautiful beach with water lapping upon the shore. The second
line also gives the image of a calm sea. In the opening stanzas words such as gleams (4) and
glimmering (5) are used, giving a sense of light. In contrast the ending stanzas use words such as

I Am A Student Right Now At Milton High School

Career we want and how technology is used in it My name is Jay Lee. I am a student right now
at Milton High School. I formally attended FSA and right 13 years old. In college I am planning
to take neuroscience, robotics, and architecture. I intend to become a professor like my father, and
do my own research I want. Neuroscience is science that s about nerve system in the brain. In
neuroscience you can make the brain control using its nerve system other machines like exo
skeleton. It has already been done in the Brazil world cup. A group of scientist made an exo
skeleton that uses the nerve system of the brain to move around. It was a miracle for a man who
could not walk all of his life and walk again in front of the entire crowd using the exo skeleton.
Robotics is making robots that help mankind to things easier. For example we can make a robot
save someone who is in danger and not have any life of innocent firefighters or the rescuers
sacrificed. In architecture I would like to design buildings and other sightseeing places. The study
of neuroscience increased exponentially due to increase of due to advance of advances in
molecular, electrophysiology, and computational neuroscience. It has helped neuroscientist research
all aspect of the brain nerve system: how it functions, malfunctions, or changes. The study of
neuroscience can be done in multiple steps ranging from molecular and cellular to the system and

Objectification Of Women In The Fashion Industry
Objectification of women is not something new in today s society but has been an issue for
many years, ranging from advertisements in the 1950 s telling women what they had to do in
order to be the perfect wife to the advertisements today telling women to look a certain way.
Everyone is constantly surrounded by advertisements, they are on the television, in magazines,
on the sides of buses and buildings and all around us on the internet. There is no way to escape
these advertisements, as Jean Kilbourne said The average American is exposed to over 3,000
ads every single day and will spend two years of his or her life watching television commercials.
Many people only notice that women are being objectified in beauty and fashion advertisements,
as this is the most common places. However, this is sadly not true, women are used as a tool of
advertisements for food, cars, beer and even by organizations such as PETA. However, this is still
the biggest area of concern for women. This essay aims to address how the fashion industry is
objectifying women, through advertisements aimed at females and advertisements aimed at males.
To begin, the lingerie industry is guilty for portraying only thin, white women. An advertisement
from Victoria secret in 2014, titled the perfect body (Luxen, 2017) was released and caused a
massive uproar. The advertisement was titled the perfect body but did not show more than one
body type, it showed 10 skinny Victoria secret models, and only showed

Democracy In America By Alexis De Tocqueville
The project that Alexis de Tocqueville undertook in writing Democracy in America was highly
ambitious, and became one of the most influential texts of the nineteenth century, and remains to
this day a classic in political science literature. Having witnessed the failure of France to
democratize, Tocqueville sought out to study a prosperous democracy. The United Statesof America
during the writing of this text exemplified stability and democratic governance, allowing Alexis de
Tocqueville to gain insight into making a democratic governmentsucceed. His travels and studies in
the United States ultimately led him to conclude that the transition toward a democratic
government and equality of conditions had developed strongest in America, though he suggests that
it is indeed a universal phenomenon and a perpetual historical tendency that could not be stopped.

The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God
As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot
better to have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey
was a great example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so
long was because of the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not
have gotten home at all. In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves
that signify Poseidon not letting Odysseusgo home. The image is very good at showing the
hopelessness the ship in. Also, Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a
similar point of the power and what can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it
shows only how awful the gods can be. It is about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and
the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the
mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods.
The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the
Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In
book 9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is

Comparing Wide Sargasso Sea and Jane Eyre Essay
Authors, Jean Rhys and Charlotte Bronte constructed their novels in completely different time
periods and came from different influences in writing. Jean Rhys s fiction book, Wide Sargasso
Sea is an interesting relation to Jane Eyre. The female character of Jane Eyre forms into a furiously,
passionate, independent young woman. The female character of Jean Rhyss illustration is a
character that Jane will know further on as Rochester s crazy wife who is bolted in an attic. Jean
Rhys further studies this character, where as Charlotte Bronte approved that it was left explained

These two novels are both feminist works, although each book leads to feminist problems
somewhat differently. Jane has a strong foundation in what woman deserve, as well as achieve
specific goals for how she portrays her spot in society being a woman; Antoinette has no
knowledge where to start to change herself. In Wide Sargasso Sea, Rhys poses the likelihood that
maybe; the gap between women and men can t be penetrated. Possibly, the unbalance is so great
that Antoinette cannot have a feeling of cheerfulness and pleasure that Jane discovers near the end
of the novel. Wide Sargasso Sea portrays the fluctuating position of woman in the twentieth century.
Wide Sargasso Sea and Jane Eyre can single handedly be looked at as signs of feminist texts,
however, Wide Sargasso Sea presents itself with more description on post modern shape of
feminism.
An interesting insight into grasping the un similarities of how Antoinette and Jane portray their

Several components of the performance likewise strategic planning and management, accountability
of performance, performance auditing and performance measurement were part of undisputed

world functions today. People have become greatly dependent on technology and the internet that
the concept of having a physical conversation does not seem appealing anymore. In fact,
technology is widely used as an excuse by the public to ignore people that they do not wish to

Othello Racism Analysis
Isolation, by definition, represent the act of being separated from a general group. In William
Shakespeare s Othello, racism can be seen as a common thing throughout the dialogues in the play.
Almost every single character have made racial slurs towards Othello. The protagonist, Othello is
seen as an isolated individual from the rest of Venice due to his skin colour. Othellofeels insecure
about his race. The antagonist, Iago is able to take advantage of Othello s insecurities and weak
emotions by endlessly convinces him about Desdemona s infidelity. Racism in his society and
Othello s sense of heroism contribute to his downfall. However, Othello s insecurity regarding his
race is the tragic flaw that caused his downfall, killing both himself and his loved wife.
Externally, In Othello society, other s racist comments against him incorporate some impact on
Othello s downfall. Characters such as Roderigo, Iago, and Brabantio referred Othello as an
inhumane being. Othello was known as the moor and thick lips by Iago and Roderigo. Almost
everyone discriminates Othello verbally because of his skin colour. Yet, Iago is the most racist
towards Othello, he attempted to aggravate Brabantio by telling him an old black ram (I, III,23)
is making the beast with two backs with your white ewe . Iago referred Othello as black and
Desdemona as white, where two of them contradict each other. Iago intended to upset Brabantio
by using racist animal imagery to prove to Brabantio about his daughter s elopement. We can see
that Iago have no respect for Othello as a person, but only sees him as a black animal.
Nonetheless, Desdemona s father, Brabantio also have a racist attitude towards Othello. Brabantio
doesn t seem to believe that Othello won his daughter over with his personality. He believes
Desdemona is abused, stol n, corrupted by spells and medicine (I, III,60 61). Brabantio considered
her daughter s elopement unnatural because he just cannot believe his daughter fall in love with
what she feared to look on ( ). Others racist comment around Othello exposes his inner insecurity
step by step, up to a point that Othello can no longer take it and causes his downfall.
Internally, Othello s insecurities about

The Causes Of The Cultural Revolution Of China
Revolution: the deconstruction phase in the circle of societal reconstruction. In most cases, the
society rebuilds itself, improves, takes mistakes from the past, and makes sure to establish itself as
something new, distancing itself from its past faults. However, that is not always the case. The
cultural revolutionof China, lasting from 1966 1976, was a revolution unlike many others; it resulted
in the destruction of traditional Chinese culture, as well as the reshaping of the Chinese political
mentality.
Mao Zedong, the chairman of the Communist Party of China, was the chief instigator of the
revolution. Much of his motivations stemmed from his poor relationships with other party
leaders. This tension with the other members was caused by the Great Leap Forward, an attempt
by Mao to increase agricultural and industrial production in China within a very short span of
time. This resulted in the overworking of farmers, a famine with an estimated 40 million deaths,
and a disgrace for Mao (Ramzy). Even his intended successor, Liu Shaoqi, who was groomed to
perfection by Mao himself, turned his back on him after the disastrous attempt at reforming the
agricultural industry. However, due to Mao s well placed use of propaganda, he managed to
climb back to power, establish a loyal base, and spread his ideology across China. He believed the
Communist Party to be corrupt and need to be cleansed of those poisoned by intellectualism. Liu

Limited Liability
Discussion Assignment
You own and operate a small store. Currently, you are a single proprietor.
What kinds of risks and liabilities are you facing?
When a business is run as a single proprietor means that the owner is solely responsible and liable
for the actions of the company. The risk and the liability are that the personal assets such as
house, car, land, or bank savings are also part of the business. There is no legal separation of the
assets between the business and the owner of the business. For example, if the single proprietor
defaults on a bank loan or there is an accident on one of the employees, the owner is the sole
responsible. The bank can seize and liquidate the personal assets for the debts. In addition, the
employee who suffered injury for in a work related accident can sue and held the owner liable. The

However, this risk can be addressed by incorporating the business. There are various options of
incorporation depending on the type of business and goals. The most common are the Limited

When the sole proprietor incorporates, it gives advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is
that the owner can sales shares to investors and raise capital. Moreover, with an incorporated
business the owner and the employees can benefit from health insurance, workers compensation,
insurance against accidents, etc. Another advantage of incorporating the business is that it
guarantees the safety of the personal assets. For example, if there is an accident or the business
defaults on the bank loan, only the business will be liable. The personal assets such as your house

The Purple Rose Of Cairo
Chapter 3 The third chapter will mainly discuss Woody Allen?s The Purple Rose of Cairo
(1985) to examine how a theme about cinema goers reflects a desire from the filmmaker and the
audience. The film fabricates a fantasy where the protagonist of a film called ?The Purple Rose
of Cairo?, Tom Baxter (enacted by Jeff Daniels), ?steps? out of the film during a screening. He
joins Cecilia (starred by Mia Farrow), a frustrated waitress and aggrieved wife who has watched
this film countless times, and starts an adventure in the real world. Confronting the chaos
caused by Tom arbitrarily leaving the screen, Gil Shepard, an actor who impersonates Tom,
comes to persuade Tom to return to the film, while pursuing Cecilia at the same time. In the end,
Cecilia chooses to stay in reality but ends up alone due to Gil abandoning her for his career in
Hollywood. Allen sets the story background in New Jersey during the Depression, when
moviegoers frequently went to see films in order to escape from their hopeless reality caused by
underemployment and the market downturn of the 1930s. Allen was especially inspired to create
a film set in the 1930s, since this period coincided with his childhood, and he recalled the
passionate cinema audiences of the time (Allen and Bj?rkman, 2004). Established as a reflexive
fiction based on the ?past?, The Purple Rose of Cairo embodies Allen?s recollection of his boyhood
cinephilia. Thus the work bears autobiographical determination, representing Allen?s

Make a plan for working on each assignment and avoid procrastination. Procrastination is one of
the biggest challenges for any student. It is easy to put off an assignment until the last minute
only to turn in work that is not to the best of your ability because you were rushed. It is best to
plan out certain times throughout the day that can be used to get required reading or research
complete. You can get more accomplished throughout the week if you take it a little at a time.
Consistency will yield more results than trying to get all of an assignment complete at the last
minute. The student can also prepare all the materials needed for an assignment in advance. It is
much easier to complete an assignment if you have all the required resources readily available
ahead of time. There is an enormous difference between undergraduate classes and classes taken in
a graduate degree plan. Student s that are in an undergraduate degree plan are expected to
summarize material that is researched or given to them for a paper. According to Lavelle and

emphasis on depth and breadth, demand for genre competence, and often expectation for
publication, merely reporting or summarizing are insufficient (Lavelle amp; Bushrow, 2007). The

Germany, Russia, And Austria Hungary
From my perspective the game started off with France and Italy immediately isolating them, and
only talking to one another, with the exception of Britain later on. Germany, Russia, Turkey, and
Austria Hungary all started off talking to one another, but after a few turns passed each country
branched off into an immediate pair. Those being: Germany and Russia, Turkey and Austria
Hungary. Turkey came out strong taking advantage of the unclaimed space between Austria
Hungary and them; they remained strong throughout the game, quickly taking over territory.
Germany and Russia set their sights towards France and worked together to claim territory,
however, Russia did not leave the manpower behind to protect its lower end, and Turkey began to
creep its way in. Britain appeared to become focused solely on overseeing the demise of Russia
and lead a one front assault against the country. France and Italy attempted to work together
towards a common goal, though; they both appeared to be heading in separate directions unable to
support one another, their alliance proving little. Italy and Austria Hungary with alliances spread
too far to aid battled one another in losing fight for territory as neither held the man power to
successfully claim victory and often ended up in a standoff with neither moving or simply trading
territory. However, the unresolved disputes between the two allowed for Turkey to continue

Sexual Orientation Influence
The study of the development of sexual orientation has transformed greatly in the past few
decades. Beliefs such as homosexual attraction being a choice and homosexuality being the result
of faulty psychological development caused by sexual abuse and other troubling childhood
experiences have been labelled as prejudice, incorrect and have been discarded by most scientists.
But what does cause a person to develop one sexual orientationover another? The truth is that the
exact causes for the development of a particular sexual orientation have not been discovered yet. A
lot of research has been conducted to determine the influence of genetics, hormones, development,
and social and cultural influences. These studies have led many to believe that biology and
environment play a complex role in forming a person s sexual preference. This goes along with
what has been discussed in class regarding nature vs. nurture; what determines sexual orientation
more than likely lies somewhere on the spectrum between the two extremes of nature and nurture.
There is strong evidence of the role of genes in the determining of sexual orientation. ... Show more

Fetal hormones may be seen as either the primary influence on sexual orientation or as a co factor
interacting with genes or the environment, according to Simon LeVay. The exact hormones and
what levels needed are unclear, but current scientific studies point to the same hormones that assist
in sexual differentiation, namely testosterone and DHT (LeVay, 2011). Support for this comes from
the fact that the brain structures of homosexuals differ from their same sex heterosexual
counterparts. According to LeVay s study, gay men and straight women have, on average, equally
proportioned brain hemispheres. Lesbian women and straight men, on the other hand, have slightly
larger right brain

Which Americans were most affected by this act and how did they respond to the Tea Act of

taxes and laws put on the American Colonies by the British. One point from my second
paragraph would be the affect this Act had on the Americans with business s. the people with
business s were in fear that this Tea Act would put them out of business s and they would not be
able to provide for their family s and keep their home up and running. My third paragraph is
talking about what lead up to the Tea Act of 1773. The main thing that lead up to this act would
be the British being in so much dept. from war and moving their soldiers from one place to
another and supplying them with weapons and food and clothing. My fourth paragraph is going
to be talking about the way the Americans responded to the Tea Act of 1773. A good many of the
Americans formed a resistance against the Tea Act of 1773 and decide to throw tea off a ship

Positive Effect Breaking news! Society has a positive effect on people. This has been never
before seen. This is how we found out. In On the Road: Middle school football team execute life

positive effect on people. In On the road there are examples of how society has had a positive
effect on people. First it had a large change on how the football team acted. The Olivet Football
Team had started to act more caringly and helpful. When someone came up with the idea to let a
disabled kid named Keith Orr score a touchdown at their next gameno one disagreed. Everyone
wanted to help Keith. Next society positively affected Keith. His community around him saw what
he was going through and wanted him to have a moment of glory. Lastly society positively

Thomas Hobbes And John Locke
By the second half of the 17th Century, England would experience one of the bloodiest conflicts in
its history, ultimately serving to influence some of the most phenomenal political philosophers in
Europe Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke. England was in constant unrest, choosing new forms of
government almost on a whim in desperate attempts to restore order in the Country. The English
Civil War in 1642 etched a legacy of dread in the people of England, and the war only appeared
more disastrous and fruitless when it became apparent the new Puritanical regime was just as
irresponsible as the previous regime by Charles I and his predecessor James I. Therefore, when the
Glorious Revolution arrived in 1588, England was relieved that the Governmentwas finally adapting
to advocate the toleration and the security of civil liberties on a grander scale. No longer would
rulers attempt to mimic the authority of Louis XIV and other absolute monarchs. However, without
the historical events that had occurred in England, it is unclear whether England s present form of
government nor any Republic thereafter would be the same because the historical events which
influenced the political philosophies of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were derived mainly from
a combination of elements from the English Civil War, The Leveller Movement, The Puritanical
Dictatorship, or Louis XIV s reign.
Locke s own political notions were shaped by the principles of previous legislative support
organizations

Impression Management By Tobias Wolff
When Lombardi instituted the rule that players could not drink standing at a bar he was
implementing the effect of impression management. The book describes impression management
as a set of behaviors that people use to protect their self image or change the way they are seen by
others. The book also teaches us the two main goals of impression managementwhich is to
minimize bad and to maximize good. Minimize bad by avoiding blame for poor performances or
ask for forgiveness. Maximizing good by generating respect and liking from other people.
Although not all players were drinking alcohol or frequenting bars, the ones that were had to keep
a good image for the team. For the Townsfolks who were frequenting the bars that the parkers were

Jim Davis Research Paper
Garfield, is an American comic character created by Jim Davis in 1978. It tells the story of a cat
named Garfield, his owner Jon and their dog named Odie. I all started in 1970 when the comic
artist Jim Davis decided to take a troll of the comic books in order to introduce a new, interesting
and relatable character and he realized that dogs were doing great but there were no cats at that
time. Davis figured that as he grew up on a farm with 25 cats, he could come up with a strip based
on cats. He then continued to create a strip with a catas its main character and thus created Garfield.
At first, Garfield consisted of four main characters. Davis was inspired from his grandfather for
Garfield s name and personality; who Davis described as a large cantankerous man . Jon Arbuckel
was inspired from a 1950 s coffee commercial, Odie the dog was based a car dealer commercial
Davis wrote and Odie s owner who was created for Jon to have someone to talk to. The strip was
originally centered on Jon as its main character but, got rejected... Show more content on

Differences In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
The world contains an outrageous amount of similarities and differences that involve with today s
society and the society of Waknuk that deals with human intolerance in one way or another. The
Chrysalids by John Wyndham include some similarities within our society and Waknuk that
demonstrate how quickly people judge others according to their physical appearance and the racism
that still exist in both societies. An example of a differenceis that there are many different religion
and beliefs today compared to the society of Waknuk. Humankinds are prejudiced in countless
different manners because of the bitterness and cruelty inside humanity s heart and mind.
As society develops, the more injustice human grows by how everyone make conclusions on a
person based on external image. First and foremost, the society of Waknuk are very harsh about the
definition and the true image of God that sadly they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start with, when Sophie and her family ran away in fear because f Sophie being a deviant,
according to Uncle Axel, I m telling you, he went on, that a lot of people saying that a thing is
so, doesn t prove it is so. I m telling that nobody, nobody really knows what the image is (64), this
demonstrates that even though a person may look different it is not for one today if it right or
not. Along with the words of Alex Haley, Racism is taught in our society, it is not automatic. It
is learned behavior toward persons with dissimilar physical characteristics, clearly proves that
everyone has their own opinion, but it does not mean that one must force it onto other people.
Another example would be how people on Mississippi made up a rule that black people are
allowed to be ridiculed and isolated from everyone else because of how they have different skin
color compared to others. In conclusion, racism is a common problem because many people
believe that their race is superior than others as a result of their

Zone Of Proximal Development Paper
1) The Zone of Proximal Development. Please add two examples applying this concept to schooling.
The Zone of Proximal Development is where the skill set taught to the child is much higher than
the child s skill set. It also refers to the ability of children to master a task either on their own or
with help. It describes the difficulty of a task ranging from a kid who gets it right away to
someone who could not master the task without several weeks of assistance.
Vygotsky felt that the child s current sociocultural environment played a strong role in how well
they learned and language plays a strong role in shaping their thoughts. He also felt that the teacher
should guide the student and that other students should be used as part of the teaching ... Show more

Actually right now, I want to think aloud, but the fact that my husband is in the other room, means
I cannot. Because of that of that, I will edit and go over this tomorrow when he is not here. I
believe private speech is an important aspect of learning in all stages of development. Try to watch
yourself when you are trying to solve a difficult problem and I beat you think aloud. It is not just
for young children.
When you are writing a paper, reading the paper aloud is the best way to proofread your paper. I
also like thinking quietly since I can think faster than I can talk, so often times I will do silent
thinking.
3) Vygotsky and education. How important is education and what is the primary school teacher s
role?
Education is very important and the primary teacher s role plays a large part in how well a child
learns. She should be a guide to the students and not be a dictator. Meaning she show them how to
do things in a step by step process so they can eventually perform these task on their own. Early
education sets the stage for learning in later years and is a very important aspect of child
development.
4) Do you think Piaget s theory or Vygotsky s theory would be more helpful in teaching? Explain
and add several examples.
Both have theories that are helpful when teaching young children new

Planning Policies On Social Life
Planning policies on Social Life in Cities
For year s urban policy and strategy has been dominated by thinking about the physical city:
landmark architecture, transport, housing, urban development, and increasingly the technological
infrastructure to create smarter, more productive, and greener cities. Clearly social issues like
health, education, employment and public safety matter to city leaders but policy and public
services deal with people in the abstract rather than the particular, which is why so often, plans
diverge from reality in unpredictable and unintended ways. The social life of cities, in particular
the ordinary, the small scale and mundane aspects of urban life, are commonly overlooked as a
source of insight and inspiration for city planners and decision makers.
Looking at the everyday life of city streets and neighborhoods provides a perspective on cities,
social change and the radical variety of urban life, that is dramatically different to thinking about the
city as an intelligent network or transport system with predefined ideas about how people will
behave that is more of how the social planning do. Social planning is the process by which
policymakers legislators, government agencies, planners, and, often, funders try to solve
community problems or improve conditions in the community by devising and implementing
policies intended to have certain results. These policies may take the form of laws, regulations,
incentives, media campaigns,

The Change Of Movement Patterns Of The Pupils
Conclusion
From these sessions, I can see there are still lots of issues I can work on in the continuing
sessions. To sum up, I will begin with the development and the change of movement patterns of the
pupils. Additionally, the relationships of adults and my expectation of the growing of this group
are also covered. The concept of a group was difficult for the pupils, but we worked hard to
facilitate them. In the beginning, they were separately seeking attention from adults. Andie focused
on personal support, Julia reacted more than reflected, Helen wanted a personal space, and Calvin
may have been thinking about a leader. Their movement qualities were similar to those witnessed
during the observation period. During week three to six, Julia and Helen evolved unfriendly but
close relationship. Julia s strong offense evoked Helen s stronger and indirect movement
responses, because of the anger, upset or fear caused. It was hard for Julia for think about what
she was doing in the session, and she expressed like a Retreatist role (Schmais, 1998:25), whose
over self protection became the target of the anger. This seemed to create Calvin s rivalry with
Julia over managing the group in session eight. His movement qualities became stronger to
accommodate his experience. It seemed lots of anxiety came up in the group in a way of fight or
flight. (Schmais, 1998:28) In building up their relationships, I needed to help them develop a more
positive experience by setting more

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Eating Kohen looked up at the waitress. She was about their age, maybe a little older, with sandy blond hair streaked with a purple that matched the plasma flow beneath her. She had striking green eyes that complemented her flushed cheeks and wore a short black skirt with buttons on the side with a vibrant, tight red blouse. Meford ordered a Professor s Regret right off the bat and asked for a menu. Kohen smiled, guess he wasn t planning to take it easy tonight for there was no stronger drink. The Professor s Regret was a concoction of various liqueurs and a fizzy tab that makes it feel like drinking bubbly air. It was an awesome drink, but Kohen was planning to take it easy so he ordered one pint of the daily draft and got a menu too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I guess the residents of our fair city still do need a place to unwind and kick back, Kohen replied. Indeed, and what about that waitress! Whoa, where else in our fair city are you going to find a girl like that? Mmm, purple hair and revealing attire, Meford said adoringly. It was true most people inside Minerva did dress what would seem more conservatively, but it was just more practical attire. The clothes that the waitress was wearing were hard to come by and were part of the atmosphere of the Solstice. People came here to escape the glowing and humming of the force fields and the scholastic life they had chosen and cherished. Half way through their dinner and two Professor s Delights later for Meford, the chandelier doors opened and entered Bergess and three of her best friends. The four of them were hardly ever seen apart and were the envy and desire of every patron in Solstice. Eyes of jealous girlfriends and wanting boyfriends darted back and forth from the door to the company they had come with. Meford being a little tipsy slapped Kohen on the shoulder and said a little too loud, She s here man, make your move. Kohen glanced over to the door where the ladies had arrived only to see them disappear into the crowd towards the bar. Kohen, not wanting to make a scene, told Meford to lower his voice and play it cool. Meford apologized and took another bite of his tuber. Kohen took another sip of his beer and slowly chewed his salad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Margaret Atwood s Surfacing Essay Margaret Atwood s Surfacing Throughout the book the narrator constantly intertwines the past and present as though it is side by side. Atwood shows this in the opening sentence I can t believe I m on this road again . The use of the adjective again reveals the narrator has been in this place in an earlier life. The narrator seems to repress a lot of her past and continuously contradicts herself, which at times confuses the reader as we can not tell whether she is talking about her past or her present and whether she regards it as home as she says Now were on home ground foreign territory . This links in with one of the key divisions in the story between the Americans and the Canadians that is portrayed throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This links in with when the narrator says I never identified it as mine and all the time it was in me I felt like an incubator , as a mother she should not be feeling this way suggesting she lacks the emotional intelligence as a nurturer and a lover, which is ironic as later we find she never actually gave birth to this child. Another key point of the narrators division from her emotion is when she refers to her child as it . This impersonal singular pronoun reiterates the protagonist s lack of sentiment. This also links in with chapter 3 as the narrator reveals her relationship with Joe as predominantly sexual cool he called it, was the way I took off my clothes and put them on again later very smoothly as if I wee feeling no emotion reiterating her lack of emotion/affection. In chapter three we see the conflict between the two languages of French and English starting to arise. On page twenty we see the first utterance occurring when the waitress in the restaurants utters Amburger impersonating the protagonist s English dialect. The narrator then states This is border country . In this simple sentence it is clear to see the notion of division twenty protagonist holds. The protagonist seems to be somewhat paranoid as to whether she belongs in this place. Again on page t we see the narrator being placed in a paradoxical position when she thinks if you live in a place you should speak the language. But this isn t where I ... Similarities and Differences in the Rise of the Roman and Mayan Civilizations Between 600 BCE and 600 CE, the Mayan Civilization in Mesoamerica and the Roman Civilization rose to the height of their power. Rome was rapidly growing as a Republic and then Empire, creating a legacy throughout Europe and Asia that would leave a lasting impact for centuries. The Empire conquered land by use of political force, religious unity, and maintaining power through a strong economy. The Mayans were heavily based around religion. The Mayan political system was divided into city states, where each had their own government, similarly to Ancient Greece. During the rise of the civilization, a social hierarchy was created, with religious figures and priests at the top granting them political power. This allowed for society to be dominated by religion, and for political figures to use religion to monopolize power and support. The Mayans expanded their civilization to gain more human sacrifices, or in the name of their religion, opposed to the Romans who expanded for political power. However, the Romans had very centralized systems of government. During the rise of the Republic, the new ideology of democracy and the defeat of the Persian Empire in the Persian War allowed for a societal belief in a strong government to rise. The Roman people believed that they have a strong centralized government, and people became increasingly greedy for power. Change occurred in Roman political power during the rise of the Empire. When Alexander the Great expanded the Roman Empire to the height of its political control by conquering nations throughout Europe and Asia, the greed for power is evident. The centralization of the Roman government allowed for expansion of the Empire through economic and religious growth, monopolizing control of trade throughout its territory and spreading religious ideology through the enforced religious unity and the Hellenistic ... • 6. Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson All people deal with emotions in everyday life and most will have problems controlling their emotions at some point in time. However, when emotions get out of hand people can start having problems in their daily life. In August Wilson s play Fences, he uses his piece to explain that someone unable to control their actions caused by selfish, hatred, or angry emotions will cause issues in one s personal life, general decisions, and in family life. Wilson hopes to target people who can t control their emotions and wishes to prevent the negative effects of uncontrolled actions caused by negative emotion. The inability to control one s emotions can harm their friends, decision making, and family. Wilson main reason of writing the play is to show the audience that uncontrolled emotion can be harmful in one s life. In Wilson s play, he uses the character Troy, a man who is a married man with a rough history and has anger issues. Troy personal life is heavily influenced by his emotion especially the anger from his past. Troy spends the majority of the play stating that he was unable to play baseball due to his race even though he claims to be better than the majority of players playing at the time. All through the play, Troy told Rose his wife, Cory, and Bano about how if he was white he would be a professional baseball player and how his life would be better (1.1.80 90). • 11. African American History In the early 1920s Marcus Garvey captured the interest of many black Americans when he emphasized black nationalism and black separatism (White et. al. 2012). In 1966, former leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Stokely Carmichael, echoed Garvey s philosophy when he coined the term Black Power at a rally in Mississippi (Brown 2014). Introduced as an oratorical tool, black power urged racepride and race unity to inspire militancy among black Americans. It was founded on the belief that black survival depended on the exercise of black power to effect economic and political change in black communities. Alongside Malcolm X s rhetoric of empowerment and the aggressiveness of groups such as the Black Panther Party, Carmichael s vision of black power was not representative of integration what he believed spoke to the problem of blackness (Carmichael 1966). Interestingly, affirmative action, a then new approach to empowering black Americans, undermined this basic tenant. It gave African Americans preferential treatment in hiring and school admissions, which effectually assimilated blacks into majorly white institutions. (Affirmative Action 2014) Thus, affirmative action adopted a more inclusive philosophy. As such, it is easy to conclude that these two ideologies lie on opposite sides of the race relations spectrum; that despite originating to bring about societal justice for African Americans, black power advocates sought their freedoms through ... • 12. The Republic, By Plato Essay In one of his most widely read texts, the Republic, Plato sets out to explore the very nature of the concept of Justice, the various forms it takes in the world, and its relevance to the lives of men. As Socrates states, it is about the way we ought to live (I 352d). The dialogue begins by introducing the commonly held view of justice, via Thrasymachus, Glaucon and Adeimantus, as the non performance of certain types of unlawful or antisocial acts. However, the entire treatise quickly moves on to concentrate on a different meaning of justice, as a form of moral virtue. He wishes to demonstrate that justice and moralityare interconnected because humans can only achieve a good life which he claims is the best way to live if they have those things that are desirable in themselves (II 357b). Therefore Plato s argument, as it sets out to prove the intrinsic value of living a just life, is neither deontological, nor consequentialist. In the Republic, Plato is arguing for the transcendent value of justice as a human good, or virtue, which informs and guides moral conduct. Plato bases his argument on a new and unique understanding of what justice is and how morally sensitive people are able to learn about the real nature of justice, morality and other virtues. He believes that it is necessary to grasp the true or intrinsic nature of certain virtues in order to make accurate judgements about the appropriate way to act in relation to others, justice and the collective good. ... Criticism Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales Edgar Allan Poe s critique of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales states, that any author who hope to be successful will write poetry and short stories in the same style that he, himself uses (Poe). Poe s continued popularity prove his ability to write an entertaining story, but what gives him the right to control another s work of art? He was, without a doubt, an arrogant person, and believed his way was the only proper way to write. Many may not agree with his theories on writing, or his need to make others abide by his rules, but there may be something to his beliefs. The Tell Tale Heart is a dark story that deals with murder and guilt. The narrator kills a man because he doesn t like his eye, chops him up and hides him under the floorboards. There is nothing to misinterpret in this story; the narrator is a crazy and dangerous man. This leads to the climax, where the narrator starts feeling guilt for killing the old man. He starts to believe he can hear the man s heart through the floorboards; The heartbeat gets louder and louder until the narrator can no longer take it. What do you see? It must be a circus train! One of the first uses of the circus train is credited to W.C. Coup. He partnered with P.T. Barnum in 1871 to expand the reach of their newly combined shows using locomotives. Before circus trains, these operators had to lug around all of their animals, performers, and equipment with a team of more than 600 horses. Since there were no highways, these voyages were rough and took a long time. Circuses would stop at many small towns between the large venues. Performing at many of these small towns was not very profitable. Because of these limitations, circuses could not grow as large as the imaginations of the operators. After they began using circus trains, Barnum and Coup only brought their show to large cities. These performances were much more profitable and the profits went toward creating an even bigger and better circus. Multiple rings were added and the show went on. Today, Ringling... There are people who are against it, and would like to ban all pornography for the benefit of everyone, while there are those who defend it, claiming it is part of their guaranteed free speech, to express themselves in a manner of their choosing. With the issue of pornographybeing debated and spoken of, one major mistake people make is that they look at pornography according to their own views. The woman s nudity is considered as art because she is posing for an art class, which was allowed by a public school, although I highly do not think that it would actually happen. Nude art s purpose is to portray the human body as an art form, and not an object of sexuality or arousal. Both pornography and erotica have the main purpose to sexually stimulate people, but pornography does not show the emotional connection between the individuals involved in the sexual acts, while erotica does. Erotica is just like nude art, except that erotica possesses no artistic value, and art does contain an artistic value that is accepted by everyone. There is a form of art called erotic art that I guess is a mixture of erotica and nude art. • 18. Gender Equality And Gender Discrimination Essay Gender equality? Is it really a time in modern day age when women are considered to be equal to men or do women still have a long way to go? Throughout history men have been the dominant gender and women have been thought to be less than the man. Men have held positions of power and authority while women have hidden in the shadows of men. In the 21st century, women have made great strides in attempts to be treated equally as men but are still treated differently. This modern day society believes genderequality exists but in reality, there is clearly an inequality amongst people creating negative stereotype gender roles, sexually degrading and gender discrimination towards women. The 21st century has seen a dramatic shift in traditional family dynamics and has pulled apart gender role divisions. During World War II men dutifully joined the military and women went to work in the factories, taking on occupations that were traditionally held by men. When the war ended, women returned to their traditional roles as wives and mothers (Winograd, 2016). Women began to realize that they too, can carry out roles of the men. • 19. Ocean Acidification Essay To begin, Ocean Acidification is a complex issue that revolves around the pH level of the water in the oceans. According to Ocean Acidification by Gattuso and Lina Ocean Acidification is a reduction in the pH of the ocean over an extended period, typically decades or longer, caused primarily by the uptake of CO 2 from the atmosphere Scientists use the pHscale to describe the strength of acids and bases. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 with 0 being the most acidic and 14 the most basic. Gattuso and Lina address that, Once dissolved in seawater, CO 2 is a weak acid which generates a number of changes in seawater chemistry. Furthermore they state, The ocean pH levels has decreased from approximately 8.2 to 8.1 between pre industrial time and the 1990s, and may reach 7.8 in 2100. The issue of Ocean Acidificationis dependent on the pH levels of the oceans. The belief is lowered pH levels could cause disastrous effects to the millions of different types of sea life in the oceans. Scientists believe that a difference in pH levels could devastate the ecology of the oceans. For example, it is stated by Gattuso Lina that, Changes in the carbonate chemistry of seawater can have a wide range of effects, some of which may be mediated through disturbances in the acid base status of affected organisms. As a result, The extracellular pH of body fluids in animals and the intracellular pH of various organisms are usually tightly regulated, but the capacity of regulatory ... Everyone is constantly surrounded by advertisements, they are on the television, in magazines, on the sides of buses and buildings and all around us on the internet. In most cases, the society rebuilds itself, improves, takes mistakes from the past, and makes sure to establish itself as something new, distancing itself from its past faults. The cultural revolutionof China, lasting from 1966 1976, was a revolution unlike many others; it resulted in the destruction of traditional Chinese culture, as well as the reshaping of the Chinese political mentality. Mao Zedong, the chairman of the Communist Party of China, was the chief instigator of the revolution. Much of his motivations stemmed from his poor relationships with other party leaders. This tension with the other members was caused by the Great Leap Forward, an attempt by Mao to increase agricultural and industrial production in China within a very short span of time. This resulted in the overworking of farmers, a famine with an estimated 40 million deaths, and a disgrace for Mao (Ramzy). Even his intended successor, Liu Shaoqi, who was groomed to perfection by Mao himself, turned his back on him after the disastrous attempt at reforming the agricultural industry. Britain appeared to become focused solely on overseeing the demise of Russia and lead a one front assault against the country. France and Italy attempted to work together towards a common goal, though; they both appeared to be heading in separate directions unable to support one another, their alliance proving little. Italy and Austria Hungary with alliances spread too far to aid battled one another in losing fight for territory as neither held the man power to successfully claim victory and often ended up in a standoff with neither moving or simply trading territory. However, the unresolved disputes between the two allowed for Turkey to continue advancing north into Austria Hungary s territory and distract Italy from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Ainsley Soli Sociology Ainsley Soli is a good person who does not belong here. At least, that is what she has been telling herself the last two years as she sits alone in solitary confinement in San Quentin State Prison. The only human contact she has had in the last 742 days is with the feral, monstrous guards that pay her a visit with a tray full of slop called prison food every day. She has not spoken one word since May 24, 2014. Sometimes she wishes she could speak, but there is no use talking when no one listens to what you have to say. That s the problem with this whole situation. No one listened to her when she was suddenly arrested three years ago for a crime she most certainly did not commit, and no one bothered to believe her indignant cries when a guard randomly escorted her to solitary confinement during her shift in the laundry... Ainsley feels her jaw go completely slack and she rereads the message over and over again just to make sure she hasn t gone officially crazy. She lets herself hope for a second that maybe this will be her path out of this prison. Maybe, just maybe, she ll be able to see her kids again and delve in absolute freedom. But, as soon as she starts getting hopeful, she stops herself from getting too carried away. There s no possible way someone is going to magically rescue her from the desolate tower and gallop into the sunset, like some fairytale. A happily ever after isn t possible for Ainsley Soli, apparently. So, Ainsley does not prepare like the note says, because for all she knows, she could be imagining all of this. She remembers seeing studies about how much psychological damages occur to people in solitary confinement. Just as she drifts in and out of sleep, eager to dream about her children, the heavy metal door in her room slowly creaks open. Ainsley jerks out of bed as she sees a tall female guard silhouetted in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Sexual Orientation Influence The study of the development of sexual orientation has transformed greatly in the past few decades. Beliefs such as homosexual attraction being a choice and homosexuality being the result of faulty psychological development caused by sexual abuse and other troubling childhood experiences have been labelled as prejudice, incorrect and have been discarded by most scientists. But what does cause a person to develop one sexual orientationover another? The truth is that the exact causes for the development of a particular sexual orientation have not been discovered yet. A lot of research has been conducted to determine the influence of genetics, hormones, development, and social and cultural influences. These studies have led many to believe that biology and environment play a complex role in forming a person s sexual preference. This goes along with what has been discussed in class regarding nature vs. nurture; what determines sexual orientation more than likely lies somewhere on the spectrum between the two extremes of nature and nurture. There is strong evidence of the role of genes in the determining of sexual orientation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fetal hormones may be seen as either the primary influence on sexual orientation or as a co factor interacting with genes or the environment, according to Simon LeVay. The exact hormones and what levels needed are unclear, but current scientific studies point to the same hormones that assist in sexual differentiation, namely testosterone and DHT (LeVay, 2011). Support for this comes from the fact that the brain structures of homosexuals differ from their same sex heterosexual counterparts. According to LeVay s study, gay men and straight women have, on average, equally proportioned brain hemispheres. Lesbian women and straight men, on the other hand, have slightly larger right brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Thomas Hobbes And John Locke By the second half of the 17th Century, England would experience one of the bloodiest conflicts in its history, ultimately serving to influence some of the most phenomenal political philosophers in Europe Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke. England was in constant unrest, choosing new forms of government almost on a whim in desperate attempts to restore order in the Country. The English Civil War in 1642 etched a legacy of dread in the people of England, and the war only appeared more disastrous and fruitless when it became apparent the new Puritanical regime was just as irresponsible as the previous regime by Charles I and his predecessor James I. Therefore, when the Glorious Revolution arrived in 1588, England was relieved that the Governmentwas finally adapting to advocate the toleration and the security of civil liberties on a grander scale. No longer would rulers attempt to mimic the authority of Louis XIV and other absolute monarchs. However, without the historical events that had occurred in England, it is unclear whether England s present form of government nor any Republic thereafter would be the same because the historical events which influenced the political philosophies of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were derived mainly from a combination of elements from the English Civil War, The Leveller Movement, The Puritanical Dictatorship, or Louis XIV s reign. Locke s own political notions were shaped by the principles of previous legislative support organizations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Jim Davis Research Paper Garfield, is an American comic character created by Jim Davis in 1978. It tells the story of a cat named Garfield, his owner Jon and their dog named Odie. I all started in 1970 when the comic artist Jim Davis decided to take a troll of the comic books in order to introduce a new, interesting and relatable character and he realized that dogs were doing great but there were no cats at that time. Davis figured that as he grew up on a farm with 25 cats, he could come up with a strip based on cats. He then continued to create a strip with a catas its main character and thus created Garfield. At first, Garfield consisted of four main characters. Davis was inspired from his grandfather for Garfield s name and personality; who Davis described as a large cantankerous man . Jon Arbuckel was inspired from a 1950 s coffee commercial, Odie the dog was based a car dealer commercial Davis wrote and Odie s owner who was created for Jon to have someone to talk to. The Chrysalids by John Wyndham include some similarities within our society and Waknuk that demonstrate how quickly people judge others according to their physical appearance and the racism that still exist in both societies. An example of a differenceis that there are many different religion and beliefs today compared to the society of Waknuk. Humankinds are prejudiced in countless different manners because of the bitterness and cruelty inside humanity s heart and mind. The Zone of Proximal Development is where the skill set taught to the child is much higher than the child s skill set. It also refers to the ability of children to master a task either on their own or with help. It describes the difficulty of a task ranging from a kid who gets it right away to someone who could not master the task without several weeks of assistance. It is not just for young children. When you are writing a paper, reading the paper aloud is the best way to proofread your paper. I also like thinking quietly since I can think faster than I can talk, so often times I will do silent thinking. 3) Vygotsky and education. How important is education and what is the primary school teacher s role? Education is very important and the primary teacher s role plays a large part in how well a child learns. She should be a guide to the students and not be a dictator. Meaning she show them how to do things in a step by step process so they can eventually perform these task on their own. Early education sets the stage for learning in later years and is a very important aspect of child development. 4) Do you think Piaget s theory or Vygotsky s theory would be more helpful in teaching? • 51. Planning Policies On Social Life Planning policies on Social Life in Cities For year s urban policy and strategy has been dominated by thinking about the physical city: landmark architecture, transport, housing, urban development, and increasingly the technological infrastructure to create smarter, more productive, and greener cities. Clearly social issues like health, education, employment and public safety matter to city leaders but policy and public services deal with people in the abstract rather than the particular, which is why so often, plans diverge from reality in unpredictable and unintended ways. The social life of cities, in particular the ordinary, the small scale and mundane aspects of urban life, are commonly overlooked as a source of insight and inspiration for city planners and decision makers. Looking at the everyday life of city streets and neighborhoods provides a perspective on cities, social change and the radical variety of urban life, that is dramatically different to thinking about the city as an intelligent network or transport system with predefined ideas about how people will behave that is more of how the social planning do. Social planning is the process by which policymakers legislators, government agencies, planners, and, often, funders try to solve community problems or improve conditions in the community by devising and implementing policies intended to have certain results. • 52. The Change Of Movement Patterns Of The Pupils Conclusion From these sessions, I can see there are still lots of issues I can work on in the continuing sessions. To sum up, I will begin with the development and the change of movement patterns of the pupils. Additionally, the relationships of adults and my expectation of the growing of this group are also covered. The concept of a group was difficult for the pupils, but we worked hard to facilitate them. In the beginning, they were separately seeking attention from adults. Andie focused on personal support, Julia reacted more than reflected, Helen wanted a personal space, and Calvin may have been thinking about a leader. Their movement qualities were similar to those witnessed during the observation period. During week three to six, Julia and Helen evolved unfriendly but close relationship. Julia s strong offense evoked Helen s stronger and indirect movement responses, because of the anger, upset or fear caused. It was hard for Julia for think about what she was doing in the session, and she expressed like a Retreatist role (Schmais, 1998:25), whose over self protection became the target of the anger. This seemed to create Calvin s rivalry with Julia over managing the group in session eight. His movement qualities became stronger to accommodate his experience. It seemed lots of anxiety came up in the group in a way of fight or flight. (Schmais, 1998:28) In building up their relationships, I needed to help them develop a more positive experience by setting more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
