Ultrasound Is Sound Based Imaging Technique
Introduction
Ultrasound is acoustic energy with a frequency at about 20kHz which is above the capability of human
hearing. It is more commonly used in the medical field than food industry. In the medical field, the
most significant usage of ultrasound is in sonographic scanners. As these scanners work at 2 18MHz,
it produces smaller wavelength which is able to make sonogram of smaller details. As such, ultrasound
sound based imaging technique is used to visualize body structures and tissues (Carovac, Smajlovic,
Junuzovic, 2011). Ultrasound contributes to the food industry via its acoustic cavitation in food and
dairy processing. For example, extraction using ultrasound technology has shown to increase yield of
high value food ingredients while emulsification produces food emulsions with smaller droplet size
(Chandrapala, Oliver, Kentish, Ashokkumar, 2012). In the dairy industry, ultrasound was proved to
enhance heat stability of dairy proteins and is used to separate fat from milk (Grieser, 2015). Although
most of the reported benefits of using ultrasound in food industry was done in the laboratory, major
advances have been made in recent years to utilize ultrasound in commercial processes (Patist Bates,
2008).
Mechanism?
The intrinsic mechanism of crystallization under the influenced of ultrasonic irradiation was not well
understood though there are many researchers working on this topic for the past few years. In spite of
that, the two recognized mechanism that

The Movement Toward Communism In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
In the novel The Jungle, Upton Sinclair makes the movement towards communism necessary and
inevitable by exposing the most disgraceful aspects of capitalism. He does this by exploring the
oppressive power structure within the meat packing industry. Additionally, Sinclair studies the
unbelievably imbalanced distribution of wealth created by capitalism. Ultimately Sinclair conveys that
capitalism is a systematic way to maintain the proletariats trapped in their socioeconomic status while
assuring that the bourgeoisie remain in power for generations to come. Sinclair makes it clear that
communism is a necessary step to liberating the lower classes from the grasp of the upper class. The
movement towards communism in the novel The Jungle seems ... Show more content on

Sinclair describes the power structure within the meatpacking industry as, the Beef Trust ... was the
incarnation of blind and insensate Greed. It was a monster devouring with a thousand mouths,
trampling with a thousand hoofs; it was the Great Butcher it was the spirit of Capitalism made flesh.
(Sinclair,137) Through this metaphor Sinclair illustrates the unsanitary, unsafe, and merciless
conditions the workers of the meatpacking industry were subjected to both on the job and in every
other aspect of their daily lives. All while the upper class spends enormous amounts of money without
taking in to consideration the miserable lives the lower classes are forced to live. In The Communist
Manifesto Marx states, No sooner is the exploitation of the labourer by the manufacturer, so thus far,
at an end, that he receives his wages in cash, than he is set upon by the other portions of the
bourgeoisie, the landlord, the shopkeeper, the pawnbroker, etc. (Marx, 18) In essence, the capitalistic
power structure not only exploits the proletariat in the work environment but also in every other
financial aspect possible including securing basic needs like housing, food and clothing and no where
is this more apparent than in the town surrounding the meatpacking plants of

A Simple Quilt In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
How could a simple quilt ruin the relationship with anyone family? You will not understand. The point
is these quilts, these quilts! (Walker 321). Characterization relates to the characters personality and
appearance. Maggie and Dee both wanted the quilt that their grandmother made. Maggie is the
youngest of her sister Dee. Mama gave the quilt to Dee and Maggie was upset. Alice Walker is the
author of this story Everyday Use . Maggie is the youngest of her sister Dee. She is shy and passive.
Maggie is ashamed of herself. She has burn scars down her arms and legs, she is thin and dark, and
her hair is not that nice: Maggie will be nervous until after her sister goes: she will stand hopelessly in
corners homely and ashamed of the burn scars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is outgoing and determined to make something out of herself. Dee is lighter than her sister
Maggie, and she has a nice figure, and fuller hair. She is smarter than Maggie. But, Dee knows the
least about her heritage. Dee always want nice things: A yellow organdy dress to wear to her
graduation from high school; black pumps to match a green suit she d made from an old suit
somebody gave me (Walker 316). Dee judges Maggie because of her burned scars: Sometimes I can
still here the flames and feel Maggie s arms sticking to me, her hair smoking and her dress falling off
her in little black papery flakes. (Walker 316). Mama is a large big boned woman with rough, man
working hands. She wears flannel night gowns to bed and overalls during the day. Mama is like Dee
and Maggie, mother, and father. Mama treats Maggie different from Dee. She treats Dee like she is the
youngest. They all look at Maggie different because she is a little slow. But, Maggie knows the most.
Mama spoils Dee and she also get Dee whatever she wants. Overall the story Everyday Use is based
off who know the most about their heritage. The quilt is the problem in the story. Both Maggie and
Dee wanted the quilt. Maggie is ashamed of herself because of her skin. Dee is the one who think she
is on top of the world. Mama tries to keep both of her kids happy, but it does not work out in the

Sick Leave Research Paper
Introduction Sick leave whether it is paid or unpaid is time off from work that employees can use to
stay home to attend to their health needs or the health needs of immediate family members. Labor law
in the United States currently doesn t require employers to provide paid sick days in the short term nor
does it require employers to offer longer term paid sick leave for more serious illnesses. Furthermore,
the current law doesn t protect workers from termination should they miss work due to sickness
(Heymann, J., Rho, H., Schmitt, J., Earl, A, 2009). In collective bargaining, however, unions can
negotiate additional protections regarding sick leave, which may include short and long term disability

Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks typically consist of a large number of sensor nodes with limited onboard
battery resources which are difficult to recharge or replace. Thus the reduction of energy consumption
for end to end data rate and maximization of network lifetime have become chief research concern. In
recent years, many techniques have been proposed for improving the energy efficiency in wireless
sensor networks. Among these techniques, V MIMO technique has been considered as one of the
effective ways to save energy. In WSN a node has two communication related energy consuming
roles, one role is to serve as a packet generating source node (SN), and the other role is to relay
packets for the other nodes, which are both energy consuming operations. This is why the energy
minimization is required to extend the lifetime of the WSN.
WSN nodes are commonly designed to communicate using single input single output (SISO)
technology using a single transceiver antenna. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) with space time
block codes is a communication method that uses multiple antenna to enable lower power long
distance wireless communication over multipath fading channel. It may impossible to apply MIMO
technology to small WSN devices since small sensor nodes may only be able to have a single antenna.
Therefore, through collaboration of several single antenna equipped devices, a cooperative MIMO
technique called virtual MIMO (V MIMO) has been proposed in [4].

The Theme of Mental Health Illustrated in Woolf s Mrs....
Mrs. Dalloway , by Virginia Woolf is a derivative text of The Hours , written by Michael
Cunningham. The novels both share an important theme of mental health. The circumstances of
mental health are commonly sympathetic, and empathetic. The characters Septimus and Clarissa in
Mrs. Dalloway and Richard, Laura Brown, and Virginia Woolf in The Hours show the strongest
symbols for this theme. Most of the problems and treatments these characters face are in direct result
of the age they live in. Both novels express a relationship between era, illnesses and treatments. The
clearest illness was that of Septimus, in Mrs. Dalloway . Septimus suffered from shell shock, a result
of the First World War. This illness in turn brought about an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On the other hand, the sinister Sir William Bradshaw wishes Septimus were in a rest home and to
undergo re programming. Bradshaw s awareness is especially revealing of the attitude of some doctors
at the time:
Health we must have; and health is proportion; so that when a man comes into your room and says he
is Christ... ...and has a message... ...and threatens... ...to kill himself, you invoke proportion; order rest
in bed; rest in solitude; silence and rest; rest without friends, without books; without messages; six
months rest... (Page 110).
Woolf s own experiences could be reflected off of those of Bradshaw s thoughts. Woolf portrays
doctors to be useless. The delusions of Septimus are shown through Woolf s characteristic stream of
consciousness style.
Once you fall, Septimus repeated to himself, human nature is on you. Holmes and Bradshaw are on
you. They scour the desert. They fly screaming into the wilderness. The rack and the thumbscrew are
applied. Human nature is remorseless. (Page 108).
Through this quote, the reader is able to see the way in which Septimus thoughts are portrayed. The
thoughts of Septimus show him to be a helpless victim. When understanding the way Septimus is
being treated by the doctor, the reader can not help but feel sympathy for him. Woolf s use of stream
of consciousness is that of cautiousness and delicacy. In The Hours Richard, a gay poet dying of AIDS

Causes and Consequences of Human Trafficking in Haiti Essay
Throughout the globe, whether a country is highly developed or unstable, all countries must face the
issue of humanitarian crisis. These misfortunes can be triggered by human action or can occur
involuntarily. Ranging from natural disasters, to diseases, to internal or external conflict, each has
been proven to be detrimental to the stability of the society. Haiti has recently gotten attention for
being simultaneously affected by multiple crises; each of which helps to place Haiti in a trap which
they cannot lift themselves out of without foreign intervention and aid. Organizations such as the
Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN), a collaboration between Jesuit
universities, are in place hoping to promote awareness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Officials in Haiti estimate that an overwhelming 90,000 to 120,000 children are currently forced into
this practice, reflecting greatly on the lack of economic stability and growth within the country (2005
Trafficking in Persons Report). When thinking of sexual exploitation, forced prostitution and rape are
often the first to come to mind; however, women of Haiti have been noted to consciously choose to
exploit themselves. Furthermore, women will trade sex for a goods, shelter, or even security, in turn
causing sex to be classified as an income generating strategy (Kempadoo, 84). According to a statistic
pulled in 1984, 30 percent of the prostitutes from Haiti or from the Dominican Republic were between
fifteen and twenty years old (Benoit, 39). Consequently, the numbers of individuals affected by
trafficking in Haiti is evident of the presence and nature of crisis occurring.
Haiti is extremely susceptible to the humanitarian crisis of human trafficking due to their unstable
government, lack of law enforcement, and static economy. Although Jean Bertrand Aristide held the
position of president, the society still suffered from brutal acts of violence. Due to the fear of being
overthrown, the military acted in this way to divest the Haitian people of their freedoms (Americas
Watch, 1). However, subsequent to Aristide s resignation in early 2004, Haiti continued to struggle to
gain control

The Rabbits
The Rabbits Essay Images are a universal language that appeals to a wider audience through
techniques that give the pictures meaning. Consequently, an individual is able to perceive the image in
their own way depending on their level of knowledge. As a result, the audience is able to interpret
both simple and complex ideas within the pictures according to their own understanding. John
Marsden and Shaun Tan s picture book The Rabbits demonstrates the different ways an individual may
interpret narratives through techniques such as allegory, anthropomorphism and symbolism. Through
these techniques, simple and complex ideas are communicated, and depending on a person s

The use of simulacra allows the machines to appear as a rabbits head, consuming the land. The
symbolism of the machine conveys the idea of the rabbits taking everything they want, the land, the
crops and animals etc. Another techniques used in image is the juxtaposition and irony between the
huge machine and the tiny rabbit who is controlling it. This technique may be interpreted by the older
audience as the power and control the rabbits have over the land, crops and the possums.
Consequently, the image may be understood as the British taking over the Aboriginals during the
Colonisation of Australia. A salient image of a painting captures the viewer s attention due to its
radiant colours compared to the bleak background. The foreground illustrates a painting being held up
by two rabbits, labelled 1 and 2 . This reflects the complex idea of there being a lot of important
rabbits being labelled as just a number. The building in the painting aligns with the ones being created
in the background creating vectors that lead your eyes to construction of it. Consequently, the huge
buildings are held up by weak foundations that convey the idea of the foundation of the British being
weak. On the other hand, this is juxtaposed to the foundation of the possums on the tree; sturdy and
strong. This complex idea is able to be understood by the older audience due to their wider range of
knowledge and

Contraception And Safe Sex Education Essay
Within the United States, 38 states of the 48 states examined have some form of abstinence only
education. Of those 38, 21 have laws in place that require schools to solely teach abstinence only sex
education (Stranger Hall, Kathrin F. and David W. Hall 4). The logic behind such practices is to
prevent teenagers from engaging in intercourse and to decrease the rate of teen pregnancies. The
curriculum of abstinence only programs stresses that teenagers should not engage in intercourse since
that is the only way to guarantee one will not get pregnant. Information about contraceptives and safe
sex to prevent pregnancies and the spread of STDs is not mentioned, and in fact is against those 21
states laws regarding use of funds to discuss in the class. The only information about contraceptives
that is allowed while using those funds is emphasizing the failure rates (Advocates for Youth).
Contrary to what these states are trying to accomplish, the rate of pregnancy is much higher than the
median of the United States. Of the 48 states studied, the median rate of pregnancy is 62.5 per 1000
girls aged 14 19. However, the median of pregnancies for states with strictly abstinence only
education is 76 per 1000 girls (Stranger Hall, Kathrin F. and David W. Hall Table 3). The top 5 states
with the highest pregnancy rates for girls aged 15 19 (recorded age represents the age at which the
pregnancy ended) are New Mexico, 255 per 1000; Mississippi, 241 per 1000; Texas, 235 per 1000;

Physical Abuse Essay
Life is complex and there is still an abundance of knowledge we have yet to gather about it. We know
where it originated and what has evolved from it. From the knowledge we gather about the world
around us, we can develop a sense of self and who we are as a person. As soon as we know who we
are, we then begin to acknowledge that there are people around us that we relate closely to by blood or
by choice; family. Our family can be the people we eat with around the dinner table or the people who
remain by our side through the hardships and the good times. The feelings we encompass for these
people around us may be everlasting love, but it can also be animosity. We can appreciate these people
and all they do for us, or despise their every being. As a result of the hatred we may embody toward
someone, we may act out. Maybe by using verbal abuse, and maybe with physical abuse. Some of the
best ways to help children cope with the mental and physical abuse from their childhood would be to
encourage them to discuss the events and assure them it was not their fault, recognize the self
destructive ways they act out as a result and provide support, and inspire them to get more involved in
their school and community, all of which will contribute to them moving past their trauma and easing
back into reality and a better future.
Encouraging children to discuss abusive events and assure them it was not their fault can help them
cope. It was not until months after I met my best friend that

Tennessee Williams play A Streetcar Named Desire and Zhang Yimou s film Raise the Red Lantern
both explore the social constraints that have historically been placed on the female gender. Set in
1940s New Orleans and 1920s Northern China respectively, inherent in both texts is an androcentric
and patriarchal society that can be observed to impact the protagonists , Blanche Dubois and Songlian
s, psychological capacities to a substantial extent. Indeed, it can be suggested that their behaviours,
mindsets and attitudes were manipulated by the society in which they lived, the extent of which will
be explored in this essay.

Songlian submits herself to the fate of existing solely to serve a man for whom she exhibits no
emotional attachment. The fact that Blanche and Songlian saw prostitution and the concubine role
respectively as their only option is a reflection of the impact on their psyches by their respective
society s diminished conceptions of women.
Raise the Red Lantern and A Streetcar Named Desire examine the way the power struggles affect the
protagonists interactions and the motives behind these. The power plays, manipulation and revenge
between the four oppressed women. In Raise the Red Lantern are driven by jealousy. Songlian was
initially uncomfortable in her relationship with Chen, exhibited during their first night together when
her one request to him was to put out the lights. However, despite her initial reluctance, she came to
the realisation that if she could manage to have a foot massage everyday [she d] soon be running this
household. Therefore, she too succumbed to the petty rivalries, most notably when she utilised the
situation of cutting Zhuoyun s hair to damage her ear. Similarly, Blanche is continually struggling
against Stella s husband, Stanley, for dominance. Until the arrival of Blanche, Stanley s masculine
power and control was unchallenged. Needing to overcome the fear she feels around Stanley, Blanche
tries to expose, confront and exploit his vulnerabilities, emasculating him by describing him as

Therefore, the cost formula using direct labor hours as the activity base is $17,000 per quarter plus

direct labor hours as the activity base is twice as large as for the regression using tons mined as the
activity base. However, managers should look more closely at the costs and try to determine why
utilities costs are more closely tied to direct labor hours than to the number of tons mined.

Dog Park
I believe that a dog park is both good and, bad and I have many reasons for that statement, when
considering a place to build a dog park first it does infact need to be a lot larger than only one acre,
Because a lot of dogs are territorial and when you end up having too many dominate dogs in one area,
problems are bound to occor. Their will always be people that complain and just waste all of their time
and energy over a dog that barks or somthing minesclew. Their are many benifts to a large dog park

overall life, and improves their behavior. The Dogpark needs to be in a location where it can be big

Pros Of Leasing
In the vast majority of situations here in the United States, I recommend leasing over any other ways
to finance and drive a car.
This might surprise you.
Because we have been brainwashed that leasing is a fool s way to drive a car.
But when we exploit the benefits of leasing (and avoid the common traps), we are able to drive a lot
more car for a lot less money over our lifetime.
*** We all know leasing is confusing
Leasing is meant to seem complicated.
This is done on purpose, because it tricks (most) people into making poor financial choices. And these
bad decisions puts more profit into the dealer s bank account.
But when we exploit leasing in our favor, it is almost always cheaper than any other form of financing
a new car.

I am about to share with you the big loophole of new car leasing.
Ready?
Here it is...
It is a secret that most people do not know about.
It is the secret that gets most people thinking leasing has mileage and damage penalties.
But the secret is this:
The legal loophole around paying for end of lease penalties is to get the dealership to buy our car back
from us (instead of turning it in).
Let me repeat this, because it is the secret to get more car for less money.
At any time during a lease, we can sell our leased car to any dealership on the planet. It does not
matter if we sell a leased Toyota to a BMW dealership or a leased Audi to a Honda dealership.
Because as soon as we sell the car to the dealership, the lease company gets paid off and cannot charge
us for end of lease extras.
This is known as a early lease buyout .
It is the cost that anyone can buy the car for. And it is calculated at the same time we sign the lease
paperwork.
Even better, some dealerships will offer us more for our leased car than the early lease buyout.
Why? Because they can flip our leased car and sell it used on their lot for a ton of profit. (More on this

My Experience In High School Essay
It was a cool fall day, the pleasant cool breeze against my face, as I make my way down the road to
the rendezvous point. I arrive at the high school, and realize I m slightly early. I put the skateboard on
the ground and proceed to attempt to ride it, thankful that no one was there to see. Though I enjoy
skating, the point of meeting at the high school was so that no one had to see our novice attempts at it.
After five minutes of failing to get the board to leave the ground with me remaining on it, Raith and
Mea cross the road just in time to witness my pitiful endeavor. We spent most of the morning cruising
on our boards and sitting, drinking various sodas we had brought, and chatting. It was a rather
enjoyable start to the day, but by the time noon rolled around, most of us had to use the bathroom. So
we collectively decided to head down to the skate park because it was close, had a bathroom, and
sounded like it could be fun. Little did we know how much trouble would come from this little trip.
We arrive at the skate park to find that, surprisingly, no one is there. I make my way to the bathroom,
as well does the rest of the group. Afterwards we can t see the point of heading back immediately. I
attempt a few ramps and fall on my butt a few times so, ultimately, we decide to sit at the bench and
talk. I was facing the road and Raith and Mea sat with their backs to it. At this point, I m already

Political And Present Day Entrepreneurs
In this paper we examine economical, political and present day entrepreneurs. Outline a politico
economic growth system centered on the entrepreneurs. This examination is presented to discuss the
challenges a modern day entrepreneur s face in the ultra competitive technology market place. We also
point to a modern day entrepreneur who succeeded in a very stereotypical industry. Gender
stereotypes are also of immense concern, and presented for reader awareness. The pitfalls associated
with a tech startup are presented to show the vast complexity in the modern day. Options are
illustrated of what an entrepreneur can do when the locale is not conducive to their business
development. We summarize with a positive note if the right strategy is employed, anyone can be
successful.
Entrepreneurship is commonly linked with brick and mortar business run by a sole proprietor or
someone with a brand new invention. However, entrepreneurship is much more than this, ask any
American teenager who grew up in the late 1980 s or early 1990 s and they will tell you rap music was
immensely popular and dominated solely by African American artists. Conversely, they all stopped,
collaborated, and listed to a new artist on the music scene, who broke the mold and stereotype of the a

Aphra Behn s Oroonoko as the First Modern Novel Essay
During the seventeenth century, the art of writing was like uncharted waters for women, in which most
who ventured were rendered pathetically unsuccessful. No matter the quality, publications written by
women were typically ridiculed by their male contenders. However, a handful of women defied the
common standards and were prosperous; one of these was Aprha Behn. Virgina Wolf says of Behn, All
women together ought to let flowers fall upon the tomb of Aphra Behn, for it was she who earned
them the right to speak their minds. Although she was a woman of outstanding accomplishments, one
of her publications truly glistens. Oroonoko (1688), the epic tale of a heroic black slave, has often
been dubbed the first modern novel in that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His face was not that of brown, rusty black which most of that nation are, but a perfect ebony, or

being like snow, as were his teeth. His nose was rising and Roman, instead of African and flat. His
mouth, the finest shape that could be seen; far from those great turned lips that were natural to most
Negroes. (Behn 80 81)
Furthermore, the female narrator present is yet another uncanny character in Oroonoko because
influencial women were not typically presented in literature in the seventeenth century. Janet Todd
describes the narrator as, a watcher and a listener, a recipient of gossip and news, commonsensical in
her comments, but not omniscient and not able to deliver poetic justice in a place of real life
happening or to provide a simple and single version of people and events (19). Likewise, great care is
taken to focus on a specific location in which the tale takes place. It is clearly stated that the novel
takes place in a colony in America, called Surinam, in the West Indies (Behn 75). The story goes on to
examine the place of the main character s birth, Coramantien. Thus, Aphra Behn demonstrates
particularity in her concise depiction of characters and their environments.
The theme is a major component of a novel. Not only does it gives the work purpose, it also produces
concert and unanimity. Paul Hunter says, The

Three Main Ideas Associated With Romanticism
1. The revolutions connect the Enlightenment to the Romantics. The Enlightenment s ideas revolved
around social order, reason, and knowing your place in society. The Romantics views were polar
opposite from these ideas. Their main ideas were personal fulfillment, emotion over reason, and
having a follow your heart attitude. These opposing viewpoints and the rise of the middle class
disrupted the social order and eventually led to revolutions across the world, but especially in Europe.
2. The three main ideas associated with Romanticism are emotion over reason, personal fulfillment,
and follow your heart. These ideas were often associated with living simply on a farm and being with
nature. Often they reflected more of a middle class lifestyle. Two authors I read about that used this
style of writing are Goethe and Monzaemon.
3. The three main ideas associated with Realism are survival of the fittest, do what it takes, and
pragmatism. These ideas were often associated with poverty and living in the slums of a city. Two
authors I read about that used this style of writing are Tolstoy and Baudelaire.
4. I personally think that lyric is the best fit for Romanticism. Romanticism is all about emotion and
nature and poetry is a perfect way to express ones feelings about anything without having to make a
point or story.
5. I personally think that narrative is the best fit for Realism, because in a narrative you tell a story and
stuff happens. A narrative is more like real life than

What Is The Role Of Women In The Awakening, By Kate Chopin
Kate Chopin was a fearless and bold author because her work are famous for her open minded
representation of female characters. She lived in a time period where society did not allow women to
really have a say in anything and were not allowed to be independent. Chopin was an American author
of short stories and novels and her well known works are The Awakening, The Storm and The Story of
an Hour . Chopin is considered as a role model to women who were faced with society s restrictions
and just wanted to be free. The Awakening by Kate Chopin was about the character Edna trying to find
her independence but society restrictions would get in the way. Looking at the situation of women
some centuries ago, one can hardly deny that women had permanently been discriminated: Neither
were they allowed to take part in political life, nor did they get a proper education or were granted any
kind of selfhood. Towards the end of the nineteenth century, wives were still regarded as the objects of
others rather than as the free subjects of their own fates (Fox Genovese 35). The limitations and
beliefs forced on Edna are only because of her gender. During the Victorian Era the society believed
that women were just fit to be mothers and wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her community criticized of the novel because it told a specific truth without conclusion or
condemnation. The knowledge of a true independence for women, or more surprisingly yet, equality
between men and women was too much to visualize. Chopin s demonstration of the awakening of her
character, Edna, her acknowledgement that respectable women did certainly have sexual feelings
proved too strong for many who read her novel. The society was shocked by such a compassionate
view towards the actions and emotions of the sexually aware and independent female protagonist (Fox

Occipital Lobe Case Study
1. The occipital lobe is responsible for allowing visual stimulus to be understood by the mammals
experiencing it. It can be argued that by lesioning the occipital lobe within the pigeon, she is impairing
the lobe and therefore, the pigeon would be unable to determine a moving stimulus. In turn, one could
say that the occipital lobe does play a role in motion detection, as motion detection is visually
observed. However, this experiment doesn t necessarily draw one solid conclusion for whether or not
the occipital lobe is responsible for motion detection. There are many pathways within the brain that
are interconnected and complex. It seems too black and white to conclude that the occipital lobe is the
main region of the brain responsible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One method that could be used to expand on her research could be to try the stereotaxic apparatus. A
lesion within the occipital lobe could be created with this method on several different types of
mammals. This would be highly important to test. The experiment had only been tested on a pigeon.
The brain of the pigeon has a different structure than the brain of other mammals. In order to make a
fair conclusion, more mammals with different brain structures should be considered. This method
would also allow for more testing control within the specific brain region, leading me to believe that
the results would be more accurate due to the mapping of the stereotaxic atlas. Another testing method
to consider could be the use of a scanning electron microscope. This microscope would create a highly
detailed three dimensional image of the brain. Allowing for the investigator to perceive more accurate
result depictions through the changing results of the images within different mammal brain structures.
First, the investigator could take an image of the brain with the microscope before the lesion was
created, and then proceed to take a picture after the lesion was created. The occipital lobe could be
examined more in depth through fine

Media In Media
The effects of media consumption on behavioral tendencies have long been the subject of both popular
and academic scrutiny. Specifically, it is widely accepted that over exposure to depictions of violence
in media can lead to desensitization to violent content and even short term aggressive behavior. From
a psychological perspective (but not from a sociological one), this is hard to dispute as there are
numerous studies which confirm this phenomenon although these studies have also been the victim of
sensationalist interpretations and representations. Essentially what has been postulated is a simple
cause and effect relationship: media exposure leads to a behavioral change. And as of recently, video
games, in particular, have been the subject of increased scrutiny in the context of this relationship and
once again there is evidence to support such a relationship. However, a review of available data
published by the American Psychological Association (Granic, Lobels, Engels, 2014) has suggested
that another, more positive cause and effect relationship may be at work with this type of media as it
has grown in visibility and mainstream acceptance. One such trend that has emerged from a review of
multiple studies is that playing video games can result in an increase in problem solving skills. This
has largely gone overlooked by the popular press and the public at large who instead continue to focus
on the link to aggressive behavior. And it is also important to consider that the findings of the APA do
not disprove this link; this potential increase in problem solving ability and the separate increase of
aggressive tendencies are not necessarily mutually exclusive to one another. In fact, it is entirely likely
that there is one singular reason that both occur as a result of playing video games: interactivity.
Interactivity in the context of video games constitutes a deep immersion in an entertaining fiction at a
level that other visual media cannot match. James Paul Gee (2007) clarifies this point further nothing
happens until a player acts and makes decisions... words and deeds are all placed in the context of an
interactive relationship between the player and the world. And ultimately, an interactive

Loneliness And Isolation In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In this excerpt of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the scene reveals the creature s desperation to befriend
the DeLaceys to escape his loneliness. After approaching the old DeLacey, he expresses his yearning
for companionship and protection from the family. However, Felix, Safie, and Agatha suddenly enter
the hovel and confront the creature. The horror (96) on the faces of his friends and being struck
violently with a stick (97) show the rejection that the creature experiences. His only link to humanity
is broken and he is isolated from society. This passage exhibits the central theme of loneliness as
experienced by the creature. The excerpt shows that loneliness is caused by rejection from society,
companionship is desired, and isolation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is isolated from society, and it is proven when the DeLacey family rejects the creature for his
appearance. This passage parallels the creature s first rejection by his own creator, Victor
Frankenstein. Due to the his ugliness, Victor abandons his creation because of his disgust (35). As a
result, the creature is left to explore the world on his own without guidance. His appearance causes
him to be feared by nearly everyone he sees, and thus, he is isolated. Earlier, when the creature
encounters an old man, he shrieked loudly (73) and ran out of his hut. His physique is such a cause of
alarm for others, that even strangers leave their houses in fear. However, this passage shows the
kindness that the blind DeLacey showed. Since he could not see, the old DeLacey was the only person
who would listen to the creature, because he could not judge his appearance. He had empathy. Still,
the creature faced rejection. Subsequently, he believed that solitude [was his] only consolation (61).
The creature used isolation as a coping mechanism for his constant rejection. However, this only
contributed to his loneliness and suffering. The creature even compares himself to the devil (93) to
emphasise his seclusion. He uses this analogy to show his despair because even the enemy of God had
his companions (93). Frankenstein s creation is physically and emotionally alone because he is the
only one of his kind. He is not accepted because of his deformities. Therefore, rejection from society,
is the cause of his

Unit 208 Using a Diary System
Unit 208 Using a diary system
L1 Understand a Diary System
1. Explain the purpose of using a diary system
The purpose of using a diary system is mainly to be organised. If you did not have diary systems
meetings would be near to impossible to plan and you wouldn t know where staff were if they were
out of the building. A business wouldn t run properly if this was the case, having an up to date diary
will keep you and other members of staff accessible to all relevant people. Diary systems help make
sure that people are able to communicate efficiently.

You should never record any confidential information when making a new diary entry. If you are
entering into an electronic diary system it may be good to set an alarm for when the meeting is about
to begin and mark it in the diary as busy as then you know you can not enter anything that will clash
with any other time in your diary. You will need to make sure you make note of any equipment that
will be needed. For example you may need a projector for a PowerPoint or you may need
refreshments if the meeting is scheduled to go on for a while. The appointment may be reoccurring, if
so you will need to put the reoccurring as new entries too. You also need to make sure that all relevant
people know where to go to, this could be the attendees or people who will need to know where you
are in case they need to get hold of you.
2.2 Explain how to prioritise requests.
To prioritise requests means to see which ones are most important. However in the business that I
work for we prioritise requests on a first come first served basis. When room booking s come in if the
room is available they will be allocated that room. However if two room bookings come in for the
same room on the same day, whoever put in the request first will be allocated that room.
When it comes to my daily requests such as from my manager or my work colleagues I have to go on
what needs doing more urgently and if not

How The Music Business Has Made Much Progress Since Those...
The music business has made much progress since those horrible days of the mono recordings. In
those days, craftsmen, makers, and specialists didn t have any options on what gear that would use to
complete their recordings. With the headway in innovation and new developments always being made
in the music business, the open doors are interminable. On the off chance that you turn up the meaning
of innovation you will see the words business and trade, which to me just means development and
improvement. Innovation has and will keep on influencing development and improvement in the
music business. With the development of innovation, the specialized end of delivering and designing

messages synchronized drum machines, arrangements, and other musical gadgets. Framework

advances in innovation has permitted these gadgets to work with timing tickers so everything does not

be more intricate and modern, the need for instinctive, simple to utilize controls over then got to be
key on the off chance that they are to be utilized successfully. Innovation has made music frameworks

Many believe that the feminist movement started in the 70 s when feminism became more of a

docudrama Iron Jawed Angels directed by Katja von Garnier in 2004, tells the story of passionate and
remarkable young suffragists, Alice Paul and her friend, Lucy Burns, setting the stage for what a
progressive and determined woman during this time should look like. Alice and Lucy are two activists
who just arrived from London and are meeting with Carrie Chapman Catta and Anna Howard, leaders

With all of this happening, Alice decides it would be best to create a separate organization of women

Lab #7 Thermochemistry: Heat of Reaction
Abstract
The main objective of this experiment was to calculate the enthalpy of the reaction for the
decomposition of hydrogen peroxide as well as measure the heat capacity in regard to the
neutralization of a strong base and strong acid. Additionally, data was graphed in order to find the
change in time relating to temperature vs. time. A calorimeter was made so that the temperatures of
these reactions could be monitored and recorded, as well as allow us to complete calculations. Overall
the results proved to be decent as there was a percent error for enthalpy of only 7.63%, and it was
found that our calculations were accurate.

Secondary Batteries
Batteries are essential for the wireless heart monitors to operate. A battery is composed of
electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy to electrical energy and consists of a cathode
(the positive terminal) and an anode (the negative terminal). The battery needs to connect to the
external circuits of the wireless heart monitor, and electrolytes move and cause the electrolytes to act
as ions and preform work. There are two ways in which batteries can behave: a primary and a
secondary battery. Primary batteries are disposable after one use and secondary batteries can be reused
after being charges. In primary batteries once the electrodes have changed during battery use, they
cannot b0e changed back. Secondary batteries can be recharged, and the initial make up of the
electrodes can be changed by a reverse current. Primary batteries are mainly used in devices that

Evolution Of Object Oriented Technology
ABSTRACT
This paper is discuss about the evolution of Object oriented technology in software design and
implementation and it s role in the present market for developing server side scripting or web based
products. There are many Object oriented languages are available in the market but in all of them
companies choose to use open source languages like Java, .NET , C++, C#, and Visual Basic .NET
etc. The call for these languages has improved because the license cost is very less, negligible or zero.
Because of these open source languages, it is easy to find applicable libraries and development source

HISTORY OF SIMULAAND SMALLTALK
Simula:
The theory of objects in the Simula 67 was introduced by the discrete event simulation which was the
outcome of the formal programming language, designed in 1960 s, created by Kristen Niggard has and
Ole Johan Dahl of Norwegian Computing Center (NCC) in Oslo. Simula 67 has been influenced by
the C.A.R. and SIMSCRIPT. Tony Hoare s proposed the Record classes. As part of the explicit
programming model the Classes and objects or their instances were presented in Simula. The
Automatic Garbage collection concept that was created earlier for the functional programming
language Lisp was used by Simula. For the study and improvement of ship movements and the
contents on them via cargo ports, Simula was utilized for creating the physical model of ships and the
content that they carried. Many languages were influenced by Simula 67 such as derivatives of LISP
(CLOS), Smalltalk, Pascal, and C++ Object.

The Is The Trojan Horse
In the book Horror in Architecture, horror is defined in various ways, from horror being the truth
about abstraction to horror reorienting the notion that what exists is not necessarily all that might be.
Eight different typologies of horror are identified which includes Doubles and Clones, Exquisite
Corpse, Partially and Mostly Dead, Reiteration and Reflexivity, Incontinent Object, Trojan Horse,
Homunculism and Gigantism, Solidity, Mass, Stereotomy, Distortion, and Disproportion. The
typology I ll be basing my argument on is the Trojan Horse which has been defined by Joshua
Comaroff and Ong Ker Shing as a less obvious but equally disconcerting form of duality. It can also
be perceived as a lack of indication about what is going on within. This paper intends to discuss the
Trojan Horse typology of horror through the works of the architect Zaha Hadid who has produced a
number of projects that fit into the Trojan Horse typology of horror. Projects which include the Vitra
Fire station in Weil am Rhein, the MAXXI museum in Rome and the 1st floor interior design she did
for the Hotel Puerta America in Madrid, Spain illustrate the Trojan Horse typology because they have
unpredictable interior spaces which subjects the exterior to some kind of random or stylistic treatment.

project can be seen as the creation of an internal environment that shuns the exterior expression.

of others. Goodness is also showed throughout this epic as having the ability to cleanse evil. Even
though evil is presented by Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the dragon, who are filled with a desire to
act against people and ultimately destroy them, even pride, a human quality, is presented in Beowulf
as a sign that evil exists. This story might even be considered a classic because it mainly talks about

He often talked about his accomplishments saying, They had seen me bolstered in the blood of
enemies when I battled and bound five beasts, raided a troll nest and in the night sea slaughtered sea
brutes. (Beowulf 419 422), which shows how good can also be a bit proud. In the end, though, most of
the time good will always defeat evil but good won t always stay alive. For example, in the end of
Beowulf, although Grendel was killed by Beowulf as well as his mother, Beowulf still dies. In other
words, just because evil is defeated doesn t mean good will always live.
On a different but similar note, is Grendel s mother, who is seen as vengeful. Different, because she
isn t the same type of evil that Grendel is, but similar because she is still an opponent to both men and
the society of man at the time that Beowulf was written, or rather, spoken. Also, Grendel s mother is

try to dehumanize Grendel s mother. While she is indeed just as evil as Grendel was, she does not
represent the utter evil that man must fight to achieve immortality. She is a symbol of defiance of man,
but she can be seen as more of a neutral symbol. Grendel s mother doesn t attack Heorot because she
doesn t like it. She attacks it because Beowulf killed her only son, But now his mother had sallied

William Bennett Drug Policy And The Intellectuals Summary
In his essay, Drug Policy and the Intellectuals , William Bennett dissects the intellectuals role in the
National Drug Policy and explains that they are too uninterested and too lazy when it comes to this
debate. Bennett understands that the drug policy is a complex problem, and forcefully suggests that it
must be broken down carefully in order to find a conclusion that best fits our nation as a whole.
Bennett s major claims are that legalization will be wholly ineffective and detrimental, our society has
multiple drug related problems that urgently need solutions, and finally he offers what he believes to
be the most viable and effective solutions to the problem at hand. Bennett explains that the drug
problem is not one that can be easily solved, therefore the simple act of legalizing drugs would prove
to being effective and the solution requires more analysis. He goes one to explain that the intellectuals
aren t taking all of the factors into consideration, because the are ... Show more content on

Bennett says that heavy drug use destroys human character (550) and therefore it is immoral and is
lacking in virtue. The abuse of drugs abolishes the values of an autonomy and ruin relationships,
according to Bennett. He states that drug use dismantles friendships and families while at the same
time sabotaging our mind and body. He then discredits the intellectuals and affirms that the real
experts on the subject are those who have witnessed it firsthand, such as: teachers, cops, parents, (and)
kids (550). He exclaims that these people are facing living with the consequences of drugs everyday
and witnessing the horrid effects of drugs, while concurrently battling against drug use. The
intellectuals fail to comprehend the complete effects of drugs on these people and their lives, Bennett
explains, so they find pseudosolutions like legalization (551) effective and

  • 2. Ultrasound Is Sound Based Imaging Technique Introduction Ultrasound is acoustic energy with a frequency at about 20kHz which is above the capability of human hearing. It is more commonly used in the medical field than food industry. In the medical field, the most significant usage of ultrasound is in sonographic scanners. As these scanners work at 2 18MHz, it produces smaller wavelength which is able to make sonogram of smaller details. As such, ultrasound sound based imaging technique is used to visualize body structures and tissues (Carovac, Smajlovic, Junuzovic, 2011). Ultrasound contributes to the food industry via its acoustic cavitation in food and dairy processing. For example, extraction using ultrasound technology has shown to increase yield of high value food ingredients while emulsification produces food emulsions with smaller droplet size (Chandrapala, Oliver, Kentish, Ashokkumar, 2012). In the dairy industry, ultrasound was proved to enhance heat stability of dairy proteins and is used to separate fat from milk (Grieser, 2015). Although most of the reported benefits of using ultrasound in food industry was done in the laboratory, major advances have been made in recent years to utilize ultrasound in commercial processes (Patist Bates, 2008). Mechanism? The intrinsic mechanism of crystallization under the influenced of ultrasonic irradiation was not well understood though there are many researchers working on this topic for the past few years. In spite of that, the two recognized mechanism that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Movement Toward Communism In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle In the novel The Jungle, Upton Sinclair makes the movement towards communism necessary and inevitable by exposing the most disgraceful aspects of capitalism. He does this by exploring the oppressive power structure within the meat packing industry. Additionally, Sinclair studies the unbelievably imbalanced distribution of wealth created by capitalism. Ultimately Sinclair conveys that capitalism is a systematic way to maintain the proletariats trapped in their socioeconomic status while assuring that the bourgeoisie remain in power for generations to come. Sinclair makes it clear that communism is a necessary step to liberating the lower classes from the grasp of the upper class. The movement towards communism in the novel The Jungle seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sinclair describes the power structure within the meatpacking industry as, the Beef Trust ... was the incarnation of blind and insensate Greed. It was a monster devouring with a thousand mouths, trampling with a thousand hoofs; it was the Great Butcher it was the spirit of Capitalism made flesh. (Sinclair,137) Through this metaphor Sinclair illustrates the unsanitary, unsafe, and merciless conditions the workers of the meatpacking industry were subjected to both on the job and in every other aspect of their daily lives. All while the upper class spends enormous amounts of money without taking in to consideration the miserable lives the lower classes are forced to live. Sick Leave Research Paper Introduction Sick leave whether it is paid or unpaid is time off from work that employees can use to stay home to attend to their health needs or the health needs of immediate family members. Labor law in the United States currently doesn t require employers to provide paid sick days in the short term nor does it require employers to offer longer term paid sick leave for more serious illnesses. Furthermore, the current law doesn t protect workers from termination should they miss work due to sickness (Heymann, J., Rho, H., Schmitt, J., Earl, A, 2009). • 6. Wireless Sensor Networks Wireless sensor networks typically consist of a large number of sensor nodes with limited onboard battery resources which are difficult to recharge or replace. Thus the reduction of energy consumption for end to end data rate and maximization of network lifetime have become chief research concern. In recent years, many techniques have been proposed for improving the energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks. Among these techniques, V MIMO technique has been considered as one of the effective ways to save energy. In WSN a node has two communication related energy consuming roles, one role is to serve as a packet generating source node (SN), and the other role is to relay packets for the other nodes, which are both energy consuming operations. This is why the energy minimization is required to extend the lifetime of the WSN. WSN nodes are commonly designed to communicate using single input single output (SISO) technology using a single transceiver antenna. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) with space time block codes is a communication method that uses multiple antenna to enable lower power long distance wireless communication over multipath fading channel. It may impossible to apply MIMO technology to small WSN devices since small sensor nodes may only be able to have a single antenna. Therefore, through collaboration of several single antenna equipped devices, a cooperative MIMO technique called virtual MIMO (V MIMO) has been proposed in [4]. The single hop energy ... The novels both share an important theme of mental health. The circumstances of mental health are commonly sympathetic, and empathetic. The characters Septimus and Clarissa in Mrs. Dalloway and Richard, Laura Brown, and Virginia Woolf in The Hours show the strongest symbols for this theme. Most of the problems and treatments these characters face are in direct result of the age they live in. Both novels express a relationship between era, illnesses and treatments. Haiti has recently gotten attention for being simultaneously affected by multiple crises; each of which helps to place Haiti in a trap which they cannot lift themselves out of without foreign intervention and aid. Officials in Haiti estimate that an overwhelming 90,000 to 120,000 children are currently forced into this practice, reflecting greatly on the lack of economic stability and growth within the country (2005 Trafficking in Persons Report). When thinking of sexual exploitation, forced prostitution and rape are often the first to come to mind; however, women of Haiti have been noted to consciously choose to exploit themselves. Furthermore, women will trade sex for a goods, shelter, or even security, in turn causing sex to be classified as an income generating strategy (Kempadoo, 84). According to a statistic pulled in 1984, 30 percent of the prostitutes from Haiti or from the Dominican Republic were between fifteen and twenty years old (Benoit, 39). Consequently, the numbers of individuals affected by trafficking in Haiti is evident of the presence and nature of crisis occurring. Haiti is extremely susceptible to the humanitarian crisis of human trafficking due to their unstable government, lack of law enforcement, and static economy. Of those 38, 21 have laws in place that require schools to solely teach abstinence only sex education (Stranger Hall, Kathrin F. and David W. Hall 4). The logic behind such practices is to prevent teenagers from engaging in intercourse and to decrease the rate of teen pregnancies. The curriculum of abstinence only programs stresses that teenagers should not engage in intercourse since that is the only way to guarantee one will not get pregnant. Information about contraceptives and safe sex to prevent pregnancies and the spread of STDs is not mentioned, and in fact is against those 21 states laws regarding use of funds to discuss in the class. The only information about contraceptives that is allowed while using those funds is emphasizing the failure rates (Advocates for Youth). • 11. Physical Abuse Essay Life is complex and there is still an abundance of knowledge we have yet to gather about it. We know where it originated and what has evolved from it. From the knowledge we gather about the world around us, we can develop a sense of self and who we are as a person. As soon as we know who we are, we then begin to acknowledge that there are people around us that we relate closely to by blood or by choice; family. Our family can be the people we eat with around the dinner table or the people who remain by our side through the hardships and the good times. The feelings we encompass for these people around us may be everlasting love, but it can also be animosity. We can appreciate these people and all they do for us, or despise their every being. As a result of the hatred we may embody toward someone, we may act out. Maybe by using verbal abuse, and maybe with physical abuse. Some of the best ways to help children cope with the mental and physical abuse from their childhood would be to encourage them to discuss the events and assure them it was not their fault, recognize the self destructive ways they act out as a result and provide support, and inspire them to get more involved in their school and community, all of which will contribute to them moving past their trauma and easing back into reality and a better future. This method would also allow for more testing control within the specific brain region, leading me to believe that the results would be more accurate due to the mapping of the stereotaxic atlas. Another testing method to consider could be the use of a scanning electron microscope. This microscope would create a highly detailed three dimensional image of the brain. Allowing for the investigator to perceive more accurate result depictions through the changing results of the images within different mammal brain structures. First, the investigator could take an image of the brain with the microscope before the lesion was created, and then proceed to take a picture after the lesion was created. The occipital lobe could be examined more in depth through fine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Media In Media The effects of media consumption on behavioral tendencies have long been the subject of both popular and academic scrutiny. Specifically, it is widely accepted that over exposure to depictions of violence in media can lead to desensitization to violent content and even short term aggressive behavior. From a psychological perspective (but not from a sociological one), this is hard to dispute as there are numerous studies which confirm this phenomenon although these studies have also been the victim of sensationalist interpretations and representations. Essentially what has been postulated is a simple cause and effect relationship: media exposure leads to a behavioral change. And as of recently, video games, in particular, have been the subject of increased scrutiny in the context of this relationship and once again there is evidence to support such a relationship. However, a review of available data published by the American Psychological Association (Granic, Lobels, Engels, 2014) has suggested that another, more positive cause and effect relationship may be at work with this type of media as it has grown in visibility and mainstream acceptance. One such trend that has emerged from a review of multiple studies is that playing video games can result in an increase in problem solving skills. This has largely gone overlooked by the popular press and the public at large who instead continue to focus on the link to aggressive behavior. And it is also important to consider that the findings of the APA do not disprove this link; this potential increase in problem solving ability and the separate increase of aggressive tendencies are not necessarily mutually exclusive to one another. In fact, it is entirely likely that there is one singular reason that both occur as a result of playing video games: interactivity. Interactivity in the context of video games constitutes a deep immersion in an entertaining fiction at a level that other visual media cannot match. James Paul Gee (2007) clarifies this point further nothing happens until a player acts and makes decisions... words and deeds are all placed in the context of an interactive relationship between the player and the world. And ultimately, an interactive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Loneliness And Isolation In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein In this excerpt of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the scene reveals the creature s desperation to befriend the DeLaceys to escape his loneliness. After approaching the old DeLacey, he expresses his yearning for companionship and protection from the family. However, Felix, Safie, and Agatha suddenly enter the hovel and confront the creature. The horror (96) on the faces of his friends and being struck violently with a stick (97) show the rejection that the creature experiences. He is isolated from society, and it is proven when the DeLacey family rejects the creature for his appearance. This passage parallels the creature s first rejection by his own creator, Victor Frankenstein. Due to the his ugliness, Victor abandons his creation because of his disgust (35). As a result, the creature is left to explore the world on his own without guidance. His appearance causes him to be feared by nearly everyone he sees, and thus, he is isolated. Earlier, when the creature encounters an old man, he shrieked loudly (73) and ran out of his hut. His physique is such a cause of alarm for others, that even strangers leave their houses in fear. However, this passage shows the kindness that the blind DeLacey showed. Since he could not see, the old DeLacey was the only person who would listen to the creature, because he could not judge his appearance. He had empathy. Still, the creature faced rejection. Subsequently, he believed that solitude [was his] only consolation (61). The creature used isolation as a coping mechanism for his constant rejection. However, this only contributed to his loneliness and suffering. The creature even compares himself to the devil (93) to emphasise his seclusion. He uses this analogy to show his despair because even the enemy of God had his companions (93). Frankenstein s creation is physically and emotionally alone because he is the only one of his kind. For example, in the end of Beowulf, although Grendel was killed by Beowulf as well as his mother, Beowulf still dies. In other words, just because evil is defeated doesn t mean good will always live. On a different but similar note, is Grendel s mother, who is seen as vengeful. Different, because she isn t the same type of evil that Grendel is, but similar because she is still an opponent to both men and the society of man at the time that Beowulf was written, or rather, spoken. Also, Grendel s mother is tainted in the opposite way that Grendel is; while Grendel is given a humanistic point of view, people try to dehumanize Grendel s mother. While she is indeed just as evil as Grendel was, she does not represent the utter evil that man must fight to achieve immortality. She is a symbol of defiance of man, but she can be seen as more of a neutral symbol. Grendel s mother doesn t attack Heorot because she doesn t like it.
