Hustler Vs Falwell Case Study
I. Hustler v. Falwell II. 485 U.S. 46 (1988) III. Facts: In Hustler v. Falwell a dispute arose when
Hustler Magazine, a a magazine that circulates nationwide featured a parody of an advertisement for
Campari Liqueur. The inside front cover of the magazine presented interviews with celebrities who
described their first time. One of the parodies belonged to Jerry Falwell, a nationally acclaimed
minister who was featured as describing his first time with his mother when they were both
intoxicated from drinking Campari Liqueur. While the interviews with the celebrities contained a
double sexual reference, it was evident in the end that the ads were referring to the first time the
celebrities had tried Campari Liqueur. However, after the magazine was accessible to the public, Jerry
Falwell sued Hustler Magazine and its publisher for libel, invasion of privacy, and intentional
infliction of emotional distress. At trial court the judge dismissed the invasion of privacy claim and
then sent the case to the jury where they ruled Hustler Magazine on the claim of intentional infliction
of emotional distress and awarded Jerry Falwell $150,000. The case was then taken to the Supreme
Court level on appeal by the petitioner, Jerry Falwell. IV. Issues: (1) Does the First Amendment s
freedom of speech prohibit public figures from recovering damages for intentional infliction of
emotional distress? V. Decision and Action: (1) No. Reversed. VI. Reasoning: Per

Features of the Psychoanalytic and Humanistic Perspectives
Outline the key features of the psychoanalytic and humanistic perspectives, and briefly compare and
contrast their views on conscious experience, a person as an integrated whole, and the role of
therapists in arriving at changes.
Answer
In explaining and predicting animal behaviour, different schools of psychology are of different
perspectives; e.g. cognitive approach focuses on the mental processes, behaviourism is based on
external stimuli and reinforcement, biological approach is concerned with the relationship between the
mind and body and the influence of heredity. However, they are only cope with a specific part of

Freud argued that most of our behaviour is motivated by our unconscious, but how could we know the
existence of it. Freud suggested that there are several ways to access the unconscious level. The first
one is free association, patients are encouraged to give free rein to their thoughts and feelings,
expressing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content, it assumed that repressed
material would be emerged ultimately. The second one is by dream analysis, he opined that
unconscious wishes are often manifested in dreams, sometimes in their true forms, sometimes in
symbolic form (Website : Webref), e.g. children s wish of candies or toys would be reflected in the
content of their dreams. The last one is named as Freudian slip; he argued that an accidental action
would be expressed as the unconscious motivations (Miell, Phoenix Thomas, 2002), e.g. A man who
said Peter is a bad (black) guy!
But what materials would be repressed to the part of unconscious? Freud considered that part of our
unconscious motivations was come from biological drivers, one of these drivers is sexuality or libido
in Freud s terms. It refers any forms of body stimulation that

The Tariff Laws
The tariff laws between the late 1828 and 1833 caused people like John C. Calhoun to realize that
states should have the right reject laws passed by the federal government. This law forced the South to
buy manufactured goods from U.S. manufacturers at a higher price. The southern states also received
a reduced income from raw materials they sold to Northern manufacturers. This affected the Southern
states economy and made many politicians angry, including Calhoun, the vice president and a
politician from South Carolina. Later he wrote a nullification doctrine to express his opinions on the
tariff. The nullification crisis greatly affected the growth of states rights over federal power. Because
of the nullification crisis in South Carolina there were even thoughts of secession in the early 1830 s.
The Nullification Crisis was a sectional crisis during the presidency of Andrew Jackson that arose
when the state of South Carolina attempted to nullify a federal law passed by the United States
Congress. South Carolina s attempt to counter the law was based on a constitutional theory stated by
John C. Calhoun, the vice president and a South Carolina politician. He believed that states had the
right to individually, or with other states, refuse to enact any federal law that has been ruled
unconstitutional by representatives of the state.

Calhoun believed that this right was guaranteed by the Constitution. The protective Tariff of 1828 was

Examples Of Confirmation Bias In Prison
Frontline: Prisoners of Silence
1.) Confirmation Bias is when someone has high hopes for something to turn out the way they want,
that, in their mind, it comes true (Google, 2017). One example would be playing with an Ouija board.
2.) Parents whose children were/are autistic wanted so badly for the process to work that they believed
it. Even the researchers believed FC worked because in their mind they wanted it to work.
Confirmation bias even played a role in hurting families by accusing parents of sexual assault towards
their children (Frontline, 1993).
3.) Issues in Facilitated Communication were that these children were forming complete sentences and
writing poetry to the point that a ten year old was writing at a higher grade

Leading Shiite Ideologies, Questions and Answers
Questions:
Briefly identify the main features of the 3 main variations among the leading Shiite ideologies with
regard to Iranian culture and the Shah s regime? What were the main issues Ayatollah Khomeini had
with the Shah s regime?
Answer:
The Iranian revolution was an ideological affair. With different visions for the future of Iran, the
revolutionaries were united for toppling the monarchy, which they had substantially. All the visions of
these revolutionary, however, were colored by ideology. Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of that
Iranian revolution against the shah. Khomeini marched with Shi ite (Shiyah) Ideology to denounce the
Shahs and created a negative impression among the Iranian People against the Shah s regime. The Shi
ite Ideologies were based on Islamic shariah, The Iranian culture was based on Islamic culture with an
increasing influence of western culture and the shah s regime was friendly with the western culture
policies and mostly against the Shi ite Islamic fundamentalism. The second difference was, shi ite
(shiyah) ideology doesn t support the monarchy or imperialism in Islamic countries, the Iranian
culture in that time were divided in their ideology in between shi ite (Shiyah) and shahs, and the shah
s regime was totally a monarchy and supported by the US and western policy makers. This difference
was also mostly liable for the Iranian revolution. The third and last variation was, the Shi ite (Shiyah)
ideologies tends to follow the shariyah,

Piaget Theory
Piaget s Theory Cognitive Development Process
From a baby to an adult, the mental of human are changing continuously due to the demographic (age,
gender, and education) and environmental factor (family influence and society influence). There are
many types of cognitive development theory that use to prove the human s mental stages of changing.
In cognitive development theory, the theory that is focused on is Piaget s theory of cognitive
development. Piaget s theory, which is the children cognitive development, is through four single
stages for testing all children commonly. This is used to recognize the ways of development factors
that affect children s grief. Before developing the children cognitively, Piaget uses three common
ways to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept grows completely when the child is capable to recognize the object mentally without its
present (Wood et al., 2006). This development brings the Piaget s theory to the second stage.
Next is the preoperational stage which is the most important stage in cognitive development process.
In this stage, the children learn everything from the natural phenomena such as language and behavior.
This stage is allowed them to start the symbolic thinking. For example, when a box is pushed in front
the children, they imagine the box as a moving car. Then, they make the car sound when they think
that is a car. Besides, children in this stage start to work with the problem solving tasks just like the
ways to get the thing at cupboard and ways to wear shirt. Ojose (2008) mentioned that children s
perceptions in this stage are generally restricted to one aspect or dimension of an object at the expense
of the other aspects (p. 27). For instance, when one 500ml bottle is filled with water fully and one
1500ml bottle is filled with ¼ of water, the children think that the 500ml bottle is more water than the
1500ml bottle. That is because the children can only differentiate the dimension and the height as they
do not know the amount of the water inside the bottle. When teaching the child in this stage, the adults
act intelligently. They give an effective question about the characteristic object for developing their
cognitive. For example, mother, who teaches

A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Devices
The Rape of the Lock , written by Alexander Pope, and A Modest Proposal , written by Jonathan
Swift, are both pieces that are well known for being satires. A satire is a piece of literature that uses
irony and comical devices to get a point across to its audience. The Rape of the Lock and A Modest
Proposal may both be satires, but they both have very different methods of delivery and execution. I
believe that A Modest Proposal is more effective in its mode of attack. It is more vicious and scornful
as opposed to The Rape of the Lock . This vicious nature helps get the point across more easily, by
stirring up the people. Also, Juvenalian Satire usually attacks a more serious matter, as this is the case
when comparing A Modest Proposal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This form of satire is more mild in nature, and is often used to arouse amusement in people. In this
piece, Pope uses a story about a woman who gets a lock of her hair chopped off to ridicule social
pretension and vanity. Although this form of satire is not as harsh as Juvenalian satire, it is much
easier to interpret, and not to be taken so seriously. This however, can make the point seem less
serious, as it will be addressed in a comical way. However, this poem is effective in its own way at
getting its point across. One of the important elements that speaks in the poem is the speech made by
the character Clarissa. In her speech, she questions why a society that places emphasis on beauty in
women cannot emphasise good humor. This speech is often interpreted at the main moral of the story,
that people often react too much to silly things, like losing a lock of hair. For this type of topic, this
form of satire works very well, as harsh ridicule is not needed to point out

The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles
In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central
themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central
message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings
and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and
extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus
and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout
Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother.
Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her
child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by
avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that
contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her
prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate,
killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and
conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered.
Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that
noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more
dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays
that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits
shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of
creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the
family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and Eteocles,
Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of the King
position. Eteclos has claimed the

the name C T R was too limited and officially changed the name of the company to International
Business Machines Corporation. During the 1920 s, many new products were created including the
type 4 tabulator which allowed for subtracting numbers (previously had to add negative numbers) and
the standard duplicator machine. Other products such as the card punch system were improved upon.
As the Great Depression settled upon the US in the 1930 s, IBM continued to grow despite other
companies failing all around them. In 1935, when the Social Security Act was passed; IBM was ready
with a large inventory of equipment. The act brought IBM a huge government contract to maintain
employment records for 26 million people. This contract was called the biggest accounting operation
of all time. In the 1940 s, IBM began creating the first super computers. Starting with the Mark I, IBM
created a series of machines that were able to do calculations faster than ever before. In 1956, the first
ever magnetic hard disk for data storage was created. Its capacity was 5 megabytes. Also in the 1950 s,

Rent For Own Home Ownership
Rent To Own Home Ownership
The desire to own a home in America is very common. As a matter of fact, there is no American
Dream without home ownership. Years ago, an economic crisis swept the nation leaving many
homeless, jobless, and flat out broke. Many Americans as well as businesses were victims to this
crisis. Fortunately, the market has started to recover and regain structure and many have been able to
get back to into the home buying market. Millions of jobs are being created and small businesses are
beginning to see profits as well. Overall, the economy is in much better shape. There are many
programs available to help Americans rent, lease and even own homes. Rent to Own has become a

As a home owner, you are responsible for pretty much everything; not just a payment at the first of the
month. Many new homeowners are shocked to know that there are other things that will cost
associated with owning a home such as yard maintenance, malfunctions with heating and air
conditioning, and other expenses that are necessary for the upkeep of the home. This is one way that
home ownership can offer hands on experience for a renter that will prepare them for the real thing .
Another great benefit of rent to own is that, this gives potential buyers an opportunity to get a home
without having a great credit score. As stated before, many Americans were affected by the economic
crisis that hit America years ago. This not only affected the sale of homes, this affected people s
financial stability. Thus, credit scores of many Americans were gravely affected. Many suffered
bankruptcies, maxed out credit cards, failed businesses, etc. Fortunately, the rent to own option has
made it possible for people to get a home even if they were affected. As a matter of fact, while you are
in the process of renting a home, you can work on rebuilding your credit. This is what makes this
benefit so great. However, this only applies to renters that are financially stable enough to go through
this process. For example, if your rent, utilities, food, household

Satire In Political Cartoons
Political cartoons and satire are a prevalent way to depict the current viewpoints in the political
system. In some cases, the cartoons can polarize people when they push the envelope too far.
However, in many cases, Democrats and Republicans alike can join in laughing at the humor intended
by the illustrators and writers. For my cartoon, I chose to draw a picture of an elephant crushing
Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. The meaning behind my cartoon is that even
Republicans are trying to keep Trump from saying all the highly opinionated, offensive, and negative
things in his political campaign. Elephants represent the Republicans, and the Democrats are
symbolized as Donkeys. In my cartoon, the elephant sitting on Trump

Anger And Forgiveness In The Film Smoke Signals
In the film Smoke Signals written by Sherman Alexie, anger and forgiveness play a major part in the
lives of the Native Americans who live in the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation. Forgiving oneself or
forgiving others proves to be a hard battle to conquer. As you view throughout the movie the changes
that take place in each character, think about yourself and what feats you have overcome with anger
and forgiveness. The main characters in the film include Arnold Joseph, Victor Joseph, Thomas Builds
the fire, and Suzy Song. There are multiple areas within the film where offering forgiveness would
hold the key to finding inner peace, the question is do any of the characters actually reach inner peace?
Arnold Joseph battles within his own conscience throughout the film and it isn t obvious whether he
ever forgives himself for what he did. Victor Joseph goes through life with a lot of anger towards his
father, Arnold. He struggles to forgive him for abandoning him as a child, for his alcoholism, and the
physical abuse him and his mother were subjected to. Victor also shows anger towards Thomas Builds
the fire because of their differing views of Arnold Joseph. The only one who doesn t express anger and
is very forgiving is Thomas Builds the fire. He of all people has a right to be angry, after all, he has
lost the most at the hands of another, whether on purpose or by accident. But, he goes through life as a
happy go lucky person, an imaginative storyteller, and above all a caring individual to others.
Interesting enough, the character who changes the most as the movie goes on is Victor Joseph. It isn t
easy for him to forgive, but, as he grows as a person and learns the truth about his fathers actions he
eventually finds peace.
The setting for the majority of the movie takes place at the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho,
but changes when Thomas and Victor travel together to Arizona later in the movie. The movie begins
on July 4th, 1976 and sets the initial conflict early on. It quickly advances to 1998 when the boys are
grown, but, shows excerpts from the past throughout the movie as they reminisced. The Reservation is
portrayed well, showing how Native American societies lived and

Atomic Theory
Atomic theory is the idea that matter is made up of small particles made of atoms. The atomic theory
first had 5 points which were stated by John Dalton who came up with it. The first one was that all
elements were made up of small units called atoms. The second one was that all atoms of a given
element are identical to each other. Third, all the atoms were different from all the other atoms.
Fourth, atoms of different elements combined together in equal numbers to form compounds. Fifth
and final, atoms cannot be broken down, created or divided. John Dalton was a chemist in the early
19th century and his work was focused on the behavior and properties of gases. He used his work on

purposes the writer will name the friend Mary.
Demographic Description of the Client Mary is a 58 year old single African American female who
lives in Atlanta Ga. with two adult daughters and one granddaughter and one grandson. Both
grandchildren are under the age of ten. Mary was married to an FBI agent, and they divorced in the 90

born again and loves the Lord. According to Sabar, we can never completely and utterly comprehend
the other s experience. To gain the best understanding possible of the other we need to appreciate the
way they configure themselves in relation to the environment, the patterns they paint as they relate to
their world and those they meet in their world, the way they shape and form their experience. How the
individual forms and then moves on from one experience to another. A person transitions through

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Summary
In Flannery O Connor s short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find , O Connor tells the story mainly on
the emphasis of the grandmothers prospective. The grandmother was never named in the short story,
only leaving the reader to guess if this story was how O Connor portrayed a feeling toward society and
religion. In order for the reader to understand the point of view of the story, the reader must look at the
back ground of the author. Born in Georgia, where the story takes place, O Connor was raised a
devout Roman Catholic in a largely Protestant South. Due to O Connor s Catholic religion and
conservative upbringing in the protestant south it is easy to see her obvious disapproval with society
and others religious values. O Conner died at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

acceptance of grace, and her characters often do not recognize grace, much less feel the need of it,
until their lives are threatened. (Larson) All of this leads back to the point of view that O Connor

Roman Western Empire Research Paper
Background:
Issue:
Despite 500 years of complete domination over the Mediterranean and much of Europe, the Roman
Western Empire quickly collapsed in the 5th century C.E.
Research Question:
Why did the Roman Western Empire collapse?
Thesis:
Likely, the most convincing explanation is that the fall of the Roman Western Empire, was largely
determined by the Empire s economic instability after repeated invasions by Barbarian tribes.
Two Areas of Arguments:
First, the Empire s economy was weakened as the government was overexpanding and overspending,
which also led to the rise of the Eastern Empire.
Second and more importantly, the Barbarian invasions, which constantly put the Romans under attack,
caused much trouble and devastation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence Items:
There was a lot of overspending, to cover the costs of the army, weapons and defence.
The constant civil wars, rebellions, and attacks had required the constant increase of taxation on the
people of Rome, which made the citizens poorer. In addition, many rich citizens fled to avoid tax
collectors which in turn further weakened the economy by drawing wealth outside the empire.
The Western Roman Empire was so big (from the Atlantic Ocean to Middle East) that it was really
hard to govern it and communicate throughout. With the lack of communication, orders were not able
to reach the people/troops quite as quickly as hoped, which made it much harder for Rome to defend
itself.
The constant civil wars, rebellions, and attacks, all required much military spending by the
government, also links to the barbarian invasions as they caused many of the attacks.
Factor 2: Political power struggles led to civil wars, which affeted the trade, ultimately collapsing the
economy.
Evidence Items:
Since the economy was already suffering, many citizens began making their own goods instead of
trading, furthermore, the civil wars caused many merchants to lose their safe routes throughout the
empire. The civil wars accelerated the failure of

Water Lies By Claude Monet
INTRODUCTION:
For my art experience I visited the Cleveland Museum of Art this past weekend while visiting the city.
In the contemporary section of the museum I experienced several famous foreign artist: Vincent van
Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Claude Monet. For my summary of the experience I m going
to focus on the artist Claude Monet and his painting Water Lilies .
BODY:
Claude Monet (1840 1926) was a french painter born in Paris, and considered the leader of the
impressionism movement. His interest was painting in the open air and using various natural light,
depending on the time of day to capture different sequences. Monet, from an early age, was inspired
by the ocean and coastline of Northern France. The most interesting

Virginia Woolf Quotes
Virginia Woolf is a master in her craft and is able to display the truth of many situations one of these
was in this quote ¨He turned of his own accord and walked steadily in advance of the arms, conscious
of a little amusement at the strange way in which people behaved merely because someone was dead.
Mrs Woolf captured the numbness and confusion that a person feels when they lose those dearest to
them. Shortly after this quote the young man who it is referring to snaps because he realises that he
will have to live in a world without the departed. It is moments like this that Mrs Woolf connects so
deeply to the true emotions that she writes these incredible works that don t romanticize moments of
true emotion as many pieces do. This book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole story is basically this story about how society is shaping this young girl into a woman. The
metaphor is that Virginia Woolf didn t like societies ideals for what a woman had to be and so instead
of allowing this woman to grow, Woolf kills the girl off in an effort to show that societies ideals would
never corrupt that girl. VIrginia Woolf also uses a metaphor when the girl is dying. The girl believe
she is seeing a woman holding a candle. This woman was described as having an almost sinister
presence and was with the girl ass she dreamt of wandering by a river. THe metaphor is that this old
woman is an embodiment of death and the candle is helping to guide this girl towards it and the river
is what must be crossed for the girl to reach death. Mrs Woolf also writes in many smaller paragraphs
instead of fewer large ones. She does this because she has no narration of her piece and the point of
view switches many times. For the same reason, most of the book is dialogue instead of just her
talking as the writer. This also allows for a lot more depth to be built with the characters in the

In contrast, commercial organisations actively adopt emerging SCM techniques and have responded to
volatile and dynamic markets by developing agile supply chains. These agile supply chains build
flexible and responsive capabilities in terms of their processes, networks and how they are integrated
across other organisations (Van Hoek et al., 2001). We investigate the applicability of the agility
concept to the HA supply chain, specifically NGOs, and present the results of our exploratory
investigation. This provides an exciting opportunity to develop and extend the potential originally
suggested by Oloruntoba and Gray (2006), and contribute to the theoretical underpinning of this under

from commercial to HA organisations, we gain insights into how NGOs specifically, and HA agencies

The Composition and Rhetoric Field Essay
Composition and Rhetoric (a.k.a. Writing Studies): A Flexible Field
In his essay, Teach Writing as a Process not a Product, Donald Murray outlines the major difference
between the traditional pedagogy that directed the teaching of writing in the past and his newly hailed
model. Traditionally, Murray explains, English teachers were taught to teach and evaluate students
writing as if it was a finished product of literature when, as he has discovered, students learn better if
they re taught that writing is a process. For Murray, once teachers regard writing as a process, a
student centered, or writer centered, curriculum falls into place. Rules for writing fall by the way side
as writers work at their own pace to see what works best for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The prohibition of any methods of inquiry is not productive when examining an all encompassing
topic such as discourse in culture.
In Susan Miller s historical analysis of Composition and Rhetoric, she explains how English studies
emphasizing the study of great works of literature became the pedagogy of choice within the academy,
and how this choice marginalized the teaching of writing, rhetoric, to the mere teaching of style. In a
traditional version of textual history, Miller explains, people characterized as authors are almost
always imagined in control of language. Miller argues that in order to maintain their status as culture
makers, the partriarchical power mongers who designed the first writing programs, defined writers as
those who wrote great works of literature. Miller is also critical of those scholars of rhetoric who
continue to lament and/or deny that classical rhetoric lost its influence over writing instruction during
its initial establishment in America. Although it s theoretically unfortunate that rhetoric lost its status
for several centuries within the pedagogical practices of writing instruction, Miller argues that
classical rhetoric no longer fit with the needs of a democratic society. Its demise was inevitable.
This historical framework mapped out by Miller fits with Murray s complaint about English teachers
who were taught to regard a student s writing as a product. If a writer is defined merely as a creator of

Comparing Gilgamesh, Enkidu, And Mesopotamian
Nearly every author creates a title for their work that overall reflects the ideas and thoughts they are
presenting in their writing. For instance, the article Buddies in Babylonia: Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and
Mesopotamian Homosexulaity , it s entirety revolves around the relationship of Gilgamesh and
Enkidu and possible ways to view their overall relationship. The article is significant because the
author, Jerrold S. Cooper, proposes unpopular ideas previously made by Thorkild Jacobsen about the
nature of Gligamesh s and Enkidu s relationship. He provides theories not favorable towards his peers
or audience because of the homosexuality factor Jacobsen includes. Due to this courage of suggesting

nature of Gilgamesh s and Enkidu s relationship. Moreover, the question the author is trying to seek an

Generation View Of Reality Essay
Generation s View of Reality
Ben Stiller s 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of
America s twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie s main
characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over educated and
under employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic
Marilyn Gardner. She states, unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the
workforce as a whole. (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as a comedy about love
in the 90 s, the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today
(Kempley, Sec. C., pg 7). The central theme concerning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Somewhere in the middle is Lalaina, a strange mixture of the two. She is the
valedictorian of her graduating class and is briefly employed by a television talk show as an
intern like production assistant until she is fired. In her valedictory address, she condemns the
BMW driving older generation of her parents who have left a lack of employment and natural
resources for her and her peers. Ironically, her graduation gift from her father is a used
BMW, which she concedes to drive until she can afford an inexpensive car of her own. Lalaina s
unemployment leads her to look for jobs where she is inexperienced (working as a news
journalist) to over qualified (flipping burgers at Burgerama), none of which are fruitful. Lalaina
then becomes a slacker herself by eating chips and chain smoking in her pajamas for hours a day.
The social issues facing the characters in the film are what differentiates Reality Bites
from other so called generational flicks such as Rebel Without a Cause, The Graduate, and The
Big Chill. In one of the opening montages, Vicky (Jeanne Garafalo) is shown

Liberals And Conservatives Are Divided Dividing Essay
The main purpose of the article by Matt Motyl titled, Liberals and conservatives are (geographically)
dividing is that political parties affiliations are dividing the U.S. This can be seen through the locations
many Americans live such as liberals going to more urban areas as opposed to the conservatives to go
to less populated areas in rural states (Motyl, 2014). The author uses the Ideological Enclavement
Theory to explain the division of people in the U.S through ideological segregated enclaves (Motyl,
2014).
In this theory, there are two components which he states, People have gut level intuitions about the
ideology of different enclaves, and when the ideology if a community matches people s personal
ideology, people infer that they would fit into that community. Second, when people have the
opportunity to do so, they will selectively migrate into enclaves that share their ideology (Motyl,
2014). He then further breaks down the theory to the consequences that emerge from this division in
three categories which stem from the idea of belonging through the self such as migration, well being
and cognitive style and Intergroup through cooperation, Social capital trust but also hostility
dehumanization and violence (Motyl, 2014). Through his research and others which he states he
believes that people decide to stay or create groups based on their own ideologies and migrate away
from communities where they believe they are unwelcome and not belong in the community. The

Reflection On Saint Augustine s Confessions
Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of the year. I think
that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for
me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that
we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual
evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure
that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcome four, using the
discussion and the process of writing to enhance my intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that
I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the
initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas
of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It
was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact
all the situations had on Saint Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking
the right questions, and using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong
lesson I learned from Seminar 2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found that
making the application and evaluation questions helped me most with

William Shakespeare Authorship Essay
Shakespeare was a famous poet and playwright who wrote over thirty plays that are still wildly
popular today. Although it is widely accepted that William Shakespeare wrote his own material, there
are many people who believe that he was not the true author of the works attributed to him. Arguments
against Shakespeare s authorship range from people believing that it was all a political cover up, and
that there isn t enough factual evidence to come to the conclusion that Shakespeare truly did write his
own work, to the conclusion that there are faults in the Oxfordian Theory of Shakespeare Authorship.
Ultimately, the most valid evidence supports that Shakespeare is in fact the author of the most famous
plays and sonnets of all time.
Although there is not an exact day for William Shakespeare s birth, his birthday can roughly be placed
around April in 1564.He grew up in Stratford upon Avon, located near London, and he was the oldest
of his siblings. Shakespeare had a Latin education as a kid, because as the son of a leading Stratford
citizen, he almost certainly attended Stratford s grammar school. Like all such schools, its curriculum
consisted of an intense emphasis on the Latin classics (Folger Shakespeare Library, 2017). Following
his Latin School background, it is not known how he got his start in theatre, but in 1592 the first
mention of Shakespeare was released, and he was known as an established London actor and
playwright, mocked by a contemporary as a Shake scene

Persuasive Essay On How To Keep It Cool During A Hot Winter
Keeping it Cool during a Hot Perth Summer
Without a doubt, if you have lived in Perth during the summer months, you already know how hot,
humid, wet, and uncomfortable the summer season can be. Being able to keep the heat and moisture
out of your home is a matter of prior planning. Here are some great tips on how to keep your home
cool without using lots of electricity.
The Windows
1. Having tall plants or trees that shade the outside of your home helps to keep the heat away from
entering through your windows.
2. Shading your windows from the outside helps to prevent nearly 75 percent of the solar heat from
reaching the windows. This can easily be done with awnings, overhanging eaves, up and down rolling
shutters, bamboo shades, and self applying reflective film.
3. Whether you have curtains or window blinds, keep them closing during the daylight hours,
especially during the peak heat generating hours of 3 to 6 PM. Light colored curtains are more
effective than darker colored ones. White blinds are effective in reflecting sunlight, and in keeping
solar heat away from the interior rooms cool.
4. Install UV Ray and Sunlight reflective window panes. This not only keeps the humidity and heat
out of your home, it will also reduce your dependence on your air conditioner.
5. Try to keep your windows closed at all times. However, it is totally fine to open your windows, if
you have screen covers, during the evenings if you live in an area that is significantly cooler

A Case Plan For Children And Families Essay
According to the Administration for Children Families (2014) case plans are formed by child
protection staff and families who work together to identify goals for the family (Laracuente, 2016). A
case plan is a written text that explains why the child is considered to be in need of protection, it
provides a lucid statement of the functions and responsibilities of all participants in addressing the
child s care and security needs (Laracuente, 2016). Furthermore, a case plan must also include
stipulations that address the child s developmental needs and assist them to gain the skills and sense of
well being that will allow them to realize their ability (McBain, Sedky, Kjerulf, 2010). All activities,
discussions, and contact with the child and family will be guided by the case plan while it is in effect
(McBain, Sedky, Kjerulf, 2010). Case planning is a method used to provide services that identify
needs, sets goals and determines the importance of actions that are to be taken by a client or the social
service worker. Case planning can, therefore; be described as the process of assessment, organizing,
and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual s needs through communication and
available resources (McBain, Sedky, Kjerulf, 2010).Often the goals of the case planning focus on
maximizing children s safety and diminishing their risk of harming the purpose of the ongoing
intervention, outcomes, and actions required to achieve the goals (Laracuente, 2016).

Two Major Control Theories
Travis Hirschi developed two major control theories which are influential in criminology today
(Lecture). Hirschi first theory was Social Bond Theory which he explained in his paper Causes in
Delinquency, published in 1969 (Lecture). Hirschi criticized his theory and moved the locus of control
from the person s position in society to what internally drove the person not to commit crime (Cullen
Text, Part VI). In 1990, Hirschi discounted Social Bond Theory and teamed up with Michael
Gottfredson in the paper a General Theory of Crime where they explained their new theory, Self
Control Theory (Lecture). Though these theories are inherently different they both contributed greatly
to the control theory and presented an interesting new alternative ... Show more content on

Hirschi stated there were four social bonds that tied the person to conventional ways: attachment,
commitment, involvement and belief (Cullen Text, Part VI). Attachment was the person s emotional
attachment to others (Cullen Text, Part VI). A person may refrain from a criminal act depending on
what he perceives others will think of him after the event. Commitment is the person s investment into
their future (Cullen Text, Part18). If they are invested into their future, they may not jeopardize it by
committing a crime. Involvement is the person s participation in life events and social activities
(Cullen Text, Part18). The person may be too busy to commit a crime. Belief is the person s view of
legitimacy of social rules and laws (Cullen Text, Part18). If that person believes in the rules they are
less likely to break them. If these bonds are weak or broken then a person is more likely going to
commit a crime (Cullen Text, Part18).
Hirschi criticized his first theory and saw there were some inherent errors which he readdressed in is
second theory, Self Control Theory (Lecture). Hirschi s major problem was he believed the locus of
control was not societies bonds to the individual but the internal mechanism of self control (Cullen
Text, Part VI). Hirschi hoped his new theory, Self Control Theory, would

Difference of Marketing Product and Service
The Marketing of product and service are different
A product is normally a thing that sold to people and mostly is tangible. Basically, the marketing of
product is particularly focused on 4P s in marketing mix namely product, price, place, and promotion
(Ehmke Fulton Lusk, n.d.). The marketer needs to analyze the major demand of customers in a
specific market in order to find out a product that can respond the market demand. Firstly, it is
necessary for marketers to focus on the strength as well as eliminate the vulnerabilities of marketed
products in order to improve products to meet customer s demand as much as possible. Secondly, the
price is an important factor in product marketing because of the price must be set to match with ...

I think product and services marketing are significantly different because of characteristic of itself.
The first characteristic of services marketing is intangibility; it cannot be seen, touched or felt prior
consumption. On the other hands, product marketing is tangible, the customer is able to touch, feel,
taste or smell the product either before or after purchasing. For example, when customers walk
through a restaurant, they might get the food smell from the restaurant but they cannot know how well
of service if they do not buy the menu.
Secondly, products can be stored in order to sell to the customer in the next time whereas services
marketing mostly are unable to be inventoried, they are perishable. Hence, the value of service always
exists at the point when it is required. Therefore, it seems to be very difficult to match supply with
demand in service marketing.
Thirdly, the other difference of product and services marketing is the level of relationship between the
client and provider. Undoubtedly, there is much more personal contact required in services marketing
than product marketing. In case of product marketing, customers and sellers may face each other just
once time when they are dealing products and they might have no chance to see each other again.
However, in services marketing, consumers and service providers may have to see each other
frequently throughout until the contract is ended or until the last thing that consumers

My Life Of The Sixth Grade
In the beginning of the sixth grade, I lived in the city of Westlake, Ohio, as I had for just over two
years, and attended Parkside Middle School. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and
happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be
moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that
Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time
before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was
content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly
accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a
miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health,
and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto
me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two
effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of
bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock
me for my oddities. The brunt of their taunts focussed on the combination of two thingsmy rather
great amounts of outspokenness combined with my uninterest in forging friendships or other common
pursuits.

Difference Between Moral Relativism And Moral Objectivism
Essay Assignment #1 Morality seeks to provide a moral agreement that binds the people in a society
by providing a blueprint of shared values that dictate what is right and wrong. The two principles of
morality are moral objectivism and moral relativism. The thesis of this essay is that moral relativism is
a better guide to morality as compared to moral objectivity as it puts things into perspective by
considering moral ideas and variables on a universal understanding.
Moral relativity cannot be completely ignored. As morality is a practical activity, relativity provides a
better moral scope compared to moral objectivism. Moral objectivism could be appropriate if the
current order of things in today s universe is obliterated or if people live as hermits that do not interact
with others.
Morals are relative to cultures and individuals. The same activity can have different moral values
depending on a particular society, culture or persons. For instance, many people in the Western world
consider killing to be bad. But are all instances of killing bad? Is it morally right to kill a killer? For
one with objectivism beliefs, all killings are bad versus one with relativism beliefs would say let us

Persuasive Essay About Pizza
Did you know that in America, we consume about 251,770,000 pounds of pizza in a year?
Approximately three billion pizzas are sold each year in the U.S. alone. Of course, ordering pizza
from your favorite restaurant is not the only way to enjoy the culinary staple. Many people choose to
make their own pizza in the comfort of their own kitchen. Making your own pizza is a healthier and
more affordable option for most people, so I feel it is important to share the process of how to prepare

To put on the sauce you should put small amounts on at a time until you have enough. You can always
put more on, but you cannot take it back off. I suggest using a spoon or spatula to spread the sauce
rather than a knife, because a knife tends to get caught in the dough. After the sauce comes the cheese.
This is my favorite part of the pizza. There are many options when it comes to the cheese because you
can create different combinations of textures and taste by using more than one type. It is easiest to use
either shredded cheese so that you can simply sprinkle it over the pizza, or a block of cheese so that
you can slice or shred it onto the pizza. The next step is probably the most fun. Putting on the
toppings. This is the part where you really get your money s worth. Most pizza chains are stingy with
their ingredients so you do not get a lot of toppings for what you pay. At home, you can put as much
or as little of something as you want and you know that it is being prepares the way you want it to be.
The most common ingredient among Americans is pepperoni, but do not be afraid to try new flavor
combinations. One of the key toppings to include is the seasoning. It is not required, but it will make
quite the difference in the flavor of your pizza. I like to use Garlic and butter on the crust of my pizza
so it will have flavor. Spices like Oregano and Basil are delicious options too. Part of the fun in
making pizza at home is that everyone

Inactivity will only perpetuate their shyness because they are missing out on group activities in a fun

need to embrace being active from early on especially now as their bodies crave being active they will
associate activity with fun . Inability to develop their gross motor skills can lead to the children feeling

relationship with physical activity will be mentally unhealthy. Inability to develop their fine motor

The Reasons For Setting A Business
Introduction There are two reasons for setting a business. One is to profit. The other reason is to
become successful. Good leadership is important in achieving these goals. Melchar and Bosco (2010)

entrepreneurship.

Branson uses his upbringing so as o influence his style of leadership.
In this regard, it is noted that he was trained to be independent by his parents. At a tender age of six,
he would be asked by his mum to alight from the car and find his way back home (University of

  • 2. Hustler Vs Falwell Case Study I. Hustler v. Falwell II. 485 U.S. 46 (1988) III. Facts: In Hustler v. Falwell a dispute arose when Hustler Magazine, a a magazine that circulates nationwide featured a parody of an advertisement for Campari Liqueur. The inside front cover of the magazine presented interviews with celebrities who described their first time. One of the parodies belonged to Jerry Falwell, a nationally acclaimed minister who was featured as describing his first time with his mother when they were both intoxicated from drinking Campari Liqueur. While the interviews with the celebrities contained a double sexual reference, it was evident in the end that the ads were referring to the first time the celebrities had tried Campari Liqueur. However, after the magazine was accessible to the public, Jerry Falwell sued Hustler Magazine and its publisher for libel, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. At trial court the judge dismissed the invasion of privacy claim and then sent the case to the jury where they ruled Hustler Magazine on the claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress and awarded Jerry Falwell $150,000. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court level on appeal by the petitioner, Jerry Falwell. IV. Issues: (1) Does the First Amendment s freedom of speech prohibit public figures from recovering damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress? V. Decision and Action: (1) No. Reversed. Answer In explaining and predicting animal behaviour, different schools of psychology are of different perspectives; e.g. cognitive approach focuses on the mental processes, behaviourism is based on external stimuli and reinforcement, biological approach is concerned with the relationship between the mind and body and the influence of heredity. (Davis Palladino, 1995). Freud argued that most of our behaviour is motivated by our unconscious, but how could we know the existence of it. Freud suggested that there are several ways to access the unconscious level. The first one is free association, patients are encouraged to give free rein to their thoughts and feelings, expressing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content, it assumed that repressed material would be emerged ultimately. The second one is by dream analysis, he opined that unconscious wishes are often manifested in dreams, sometimes in their true forms, sometimes in symbolic form (Website : Webref), e.g. children s wish of candies or toys would be reflected in the content of their dreams. The last one is named as Freudian slip; he argued that an accidental action would be expressed as the unconscious motivations (Miell, Phoenix Thomas, 2002), e.g. A man who said Peter is a bad (black) guy! But what materials would be repressed to the part of unconscious? Freud considered that part of our unconscious motivations was come from biological drivers, one of these drivers is sexuality or libido in Freud s terms. • 4. The Tariff Laws The tariff laws between the late 1828 and 1833 caused people like John C. Calhoun to realize that states should have the right reject laws passed by the federal government. This law forced the South to buy manufactured goods from U.S. manufacturers at a higher price. The southern states also received a reduced income from raw materials they sold to Northern manufacturers. This affected the Southern states economy and made many politicians angry, including Calhoun, the vice president and a politician from South Carolina. Later he wrote a nullification doctrine to express his opinions on the tariff. The nullification crisis greatly affected the growth of states rights over federal power. Because of the nullification crisis in South Carolina there were even thoughts of secession in the early 1830 s. The Nullification Crisis was a sectional crisis during the presidency of Andrew Jackson that arose when the state of South Carolina attempted to nullify a federal law passed by the United States Congress. South Carolina s attempt to counter the law was based on a constitutional theory stated by John C. Calhoun, the vice president and a South Carolina politician. He believed that states had the right to individually, or with other states, refuse to enact any federal law that has been ruled unconstitutional by representatives of the state. Kenyon 2 Calhoun believed that this right was guaranteed by the Constitution. The protective Tariff of 1828 was nicknamed The Tariff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Examples Of Confirmation Bias In Prison Frontline: Prisoners of Silence 1.) Confirmation Bias is when someone has high hopes for something to turn out the way they want, that, in their mind, it comes true (Google, 2017). One example would be playing with an Ouija board. 2.) Parents whose children were/are autistic wanted so badly for the process to work that they believed it. Even the researchers believed FC worked because in their mind they wanted it to work. Confirmation bias even played a role in hurting families by accusing parents of sexual assault towards their children (Frontline, 1993). 3.) Leading Shiite Ideologies, Questions and Answers Questions: Briefly identify the main features of the 3 main variations among the leading Shiite ideologies with regard to Iranian culture and the Shah s regime? What were the main issues Ayatollah Khomeini had with the Shah s regime? Answer: The Iranian revolution was an ideological affair. With different visions for the future of Iran, the revolutionaries were united for toppling the monarchy, which they had substantially. All the visions of these revolutionary, however, were colored by ideology. Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of that Iranian revolution against the shah. Khomeini marched with Shi ite (Shiyah) Ideology to denounce the Shahs and created a negative impression among the Iranian People against the Shah s regime. The Shi ite Ideologies were based on Islamic shariah, The Iranian culture was based on Islamic culture with an increasing influence of western culture and the shah s regime was friendly with the western culture policies and mostly against the Shi ite Islamic fundamentalism. The second difference was, shi ite (shiyah) ideology doesn t support the monarchy or imperialism in Islamic countries, the Iranian culture in that time were divided in their ideology in between shi ite (Shiyah) and shahs, and the shah s regime was totally a monarchy and supported by the US and western policy makers. Piaget Theory Piaget s Theory Cognitive Development Process From a baby to an adult, the mental of human are changing continuously due to the demographic (age, gender, and education) and environmental factor (family influence and society influence). There are many types of cognitive development theory that use to prove the human s mental stages of changing. In cognitive development theory, the theory that is focused on is Piaget s theory of cognitive development. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept grows completely when the child is capable to recognize the object mentally without its present (Wood et al., 2006). This development brings the Piaget s theory to the second stage. Next is the preoperational stage which is the most important stage in cognitive development process. In this stage, the children learn everything from the natural phenomena such as language and behavior. This stage is allowed them to start the symbolic thinking. For example, when a box is pushed in front the children, they imagine the box as a moving car. Then, they make the car sound when they think that is a car. Besides, children in this stage start to work with the problem solving tasks just like the ways to get the thing at cupboard and ways to wear shirt. Ojose (2008) mentioned that children s perceptions in this stage are generally restricted to one aspect or dimension of an object at the expense of the other aspects (p. 27). For instance, when one 500ml bottle is filled with water fully and one 1500ml bottle is filled with ¼ of water, the children think that the 500ml bottle is more water than the 1500ml bottle. That is because the children can only differentiate the dimension and the height as they do not know the amount of the water inside the bottle. When teaching the child in this stage, the adults act intelligently. They give an effective question about the characteristic object for developing their cognitive. For example, mother, who teaches ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Devices The Rape of the Lock , written by Alexander Pope, and A Modest Proposal , written by Jonathan Swift, are both pieces that are well known for being satires. A satire is a piece of literature that uses irony and comical devices to get a point across to its audience. The Rape of the Lock and A Modest Proposal may both be satires, but they both have very different methods of delivery and execution. I believe that A Modest Proposal is more effective in its mode of attack. It is more vicious and scornful as opposed to The Rape of the Lock . This vicious nature helps get the point across more easily, by stirring up the people. Also, Juvenalian Satire usually attacks a more serious matter, as this is the case when comparing A Modest Proposal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This form of satire is more mild in nature, and is often used to arouse amusement in people. In this piece, Pope uses a story about a woman who gets a lock of her hair chopped off to ridicule social pretension and vanity. Although this form of satire is not as harsh as Juvenalian satire, it is much easier to interpret, and not to be taken so seriously. This however, can make the point seem less serious, as it will be addressed in a comical way. However, this poem is effective in its own way at getting its point across. One of the important elements that speaks in the poem is the speech made by the character Clarissa. In her speech, she questions why a society that places emphasis on beauty in women cannot emphasise good humor. This speech is often interpreted at the main moral of the story, that people often react too much to silly things, like losing a lock of hair. • 9. The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate, killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered. Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Forgiving oneself or forgiving others proves to be a hard battle to conquer. As you view throughout the movie the changes that take place in each character, think about yourself and what feats you have overcome with anger and forgiveness. The main characters in the film include Arnold Joseph, Victor Joseph, Thomas Builds the fire, and Suzy Song. There are multiple areas within the film where offering forgiveness would hold the key to finding inner peace, the question is do any of the characters actually reach inner peace? Arnold Joseph battles within his own conscience throughout the film and it isn t obvious whether he ever forgives himself for what he did. Victor Joseph goes through life with a lot of anger towards his father, Arnold. He struggles to forgive him for abandoning him as a child, for his alcoholism, and the physical abuse him and his mother were subjected to. Victor also shows anger towards Thomas Builds the fire because of their differing views of Arnold Joseph. The only one who doesn t express anger and is very forgiving is Thomas Builds the fire. He of all people has a right to be angry, after all, he has lost the most at the hands of another, whether on purpose or by accident. But, he goes through life as a happy go lucky person, an imaginative storyteller, and above all a caring individual to others. Interesting enough, the character who changes the most as the movie goes on is Victor Joseph. It isn t easy for him to forgive, but, as he grows as a person and learns the truth about his fathers actions he eventually finds peace. The setting for the majority of the movie takes place at the Coeur d Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho, but changes when Thomas and Victor travel together to Arizona later in the movie. The movie begins on July 4th, 1976 and sets the initial conflict early on. The Western Roman Empire was so big (from the Atlantic Ocean to Middle East) that it was really hard to govern it and communicate throughout. With the lack of communication, orders were not able to reach the people/troops quite as quickly as hoped, which made it much harder for Rome to defend itself. Writing Studies): A Flexible Field In his essay, Teach Writing as a Process not a Product, Donald Murray outlines the major difference between the traditional pedagogy that directed the teaching of writing in the past and his newly hailed model. Traditionally, Murray explains, English teachers were taught to teach and evaluate students writing as if it was a finished product of literature when, as he has discovered, students learn better if they re taught that writing is a process. The prohibition of any methods of inquiry is not productive when examining an all encompassing topic such as discourse in culture. In Susan Miller s historical analysis of Composition and Rhetoric, she explains how English studies emphasizing the study of great works of literature became the pedagogy of choice within the academy, and how this choice marginalized the teaching of writing, rhetoric, to the mere teaching of style. In a traditional version of textual history, Miller explains, people characterized as authors are almost always imagined in control of language. Miller argues that in order to maintain their status as culture makers, the partriarchical power mongers who designed the first writing programs, defined writers as those who wrote great works of literature. Miller is also critical of those scholars of rhetoric who continue to lament and/or deny that classical rhetoric lost its influence over writing instruction during its initial establishment in America. Although it s theoretically unfortunate that rhetoric lost its status for several centuries within the pedagogical practices of writing instruction, Miller argues that classical rhetoric no longer fit with the needs of a democratic society. Its demise was inevitable. This historical framework mapped out by Miller fits with Murray s complaint about English teachers who were taught to regard a student s writing as a product. • 30. Liberals And Conservatives Are Divided Dividing Essay The main purpose of the article by Matt Motyl titled, Liberals and conservatives are (geographically) dividing is that political parties affiliations are dividing the U.S. This can be seen through the locations many Americans live such as liberals going to more urban areas as opposed to the conservatives to go to less populated areas in rural states (Motyl, 2014). The author uses the Ideological Enclavement Theory to explain the division of people in the U.S through ideological segregated enclaves (Motyl, 2014). In this theory, there are two components which he states, People have gut level intuitions about the ideology of different enclaves, and when the ideology if a community matches people s personal ideology, people infer that they would fit into that community. Second, when people have the opportunity to do so, they will selectively migrate into enclaves that share their ideology (Motyl, 2014). He then further breaks down the theory to the consequences that emerge from this division in three categories which stem from the idea of belonging through the self such as migration, well being and cognitive style and Intergroup through cooperation, Social capital trust but also hostility dehumanization and violence (Motyl, 2014). Through his research and others which he states he believes that people decide to stay or create groups based on their own ideologies and migrate away from communities where they believe they are unwelcome and not belong in the community. I think that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcome four, using the discussion and the process of writing to enhance my intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact all the situations had on Saint Augustine. • 32. William Shakespeare Authorship Essay Shakespeare was a famous poet and playwright who wrote over thirty plays that are still wildly popular today. Although it is widely accepted that William Shakespeare wrote his own material, there are many people who believe that he was not the true author of the works attributed to him. Arguments against Shakespeare s authorship range from people believing that it was all a political cover up, and that there isn t enough factual evidence to come to the conclusion that Shakespeare truly did write his own work, to the conclusion that there are faults in the Oxfordian Theory of Shakespeare Authorship. Ultimately, the most valid evidence supports that Shakespeare is in fact the author of the most famous plays and sonnets of all time. Although there is not an exact day for William Shakespeare s birth, his birthday can roughly be placed around April in 1564.He grew up in Stratford upon Avon, located near London, and he was the oldest of his siblings. Shakespeare had a Latin education as a kid, because as the son of a leading Stratford citizen, he almost certainly attended Stratford s grammar school. Like all such schools, its curriculum consisted of an intense emphasis on the Latin classics (Folger Shakespeare Library, 2017). Following his Latin School background, it is not known how he got his start in theatre, but in 1592 the first mention of Shakespeare was released, and he was known as an established London actor and playwright, mocked by a contemporary as a Shake scene ... • 35. A Case Plan For Children And Families Essay According to the Administration for Children Families (2014) case plans are formed by child protection staff and families who work together to identify goals for the family (Laracuente, 2016). A case plan is a written text that explains why the child is considered to be in need of protection, it provides a lucid statement of the functions and responsibilities of all participants in addressing the child s care and security needs (Laracuente, 2016). Furthermore, a case plan must also include stipulations that address the child s developmental needs and assist them to gain the skills and sense of well being that will allow them to realize their ability (McBain, Sedky, Kjerulf, 2010). All activities, discussions, and contact with the child and family will be guided by the case plan while it is in effect (McBain, Sedky, Kjerulf, 2010). Case planning is a method used to provide services that identify needs, sets goals and determines the importance of actions that are to be taken by a client or the social service worker. Case planning can, therefore; be described as the process of assessment, organizing, and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual s needs through communication and available resources (McBain, Sedky, Kjerulf, 2010).Often the goals of the case planning focus on maximizing children s safety and diminishing their risk of harming the purpose of the ongoing intervention, outcomes, and actions required to achieve the goals (Laracuente, 2016). In 1990, Hirschi discounted Social Bond Theory and teamed up with Michael Gottfredson in the paper a General Theory of Crime where they explained their new theory, Self Control Theory (Lecture). Hirschi stated there were four social bonds that tied the person to conventional ways: attachment, commitment, involvement and belief (Cullen Text, Part VI). Attachment was the person s emotional attachment to others (Cullen Text, Part VI). A person may refrain from a criminal act depending on what he perceives others will think of him after the event. Commitment is the person s investment into their future (Cullen Text, Part18). If they are invested into their future, they may not jeopardize it by committing a crime. Involvement is the person s participation in life events and social activities (Cullen Text, Part18). The person may be too busy to commit a crime. Belief is the person s view of legitimacy of social rules and laws (Cullen Text, Part18). If that person believes in the rules they are less likely to break them. If these bonds are weak or broken then a person is more likely going to commit a crime (Cullen Text, Part18). Basically, the marketing of product is particularly focused on 4P s in marketing mix namely product, price, place, and promotion (Ehmke Fulton Lusk, n.d.). The marketer needs to analyze the major demand of customers in a specific market in order to find out a product that can respond the market demand. I think product and services marketing are significantly different because of characteristic of itself. The first characteristic of services marketing is intangibility; it cannot be seen, touched or felt prior consumption. On the other hands, product marketing is tangible, the customer is able to touch, feel, taste or smell the product either before or after purchasing. For example, when customers walk through a restaurant, they might get the food smell from the restaurant but they cannot know how well of service if they do not buy the menu. Secondly, products can be stored in order to sell to the customer in the next time whereas services marketing mostly are unable to be inventoried, they are perishable. Hence, the value of service always exists at the point when it is required. Therefore, it seems to be very difficult to match supply with demand in service marketing. Thirdly, the other difference of product and services marketing is the level of relationship between the client and provider. Undoubtedly, there is much more personal contact required in services marketing than product marketing. In case of product marketing, customers and sellers may face each other just once time when they are dealing products and they might have no chance to see each other again. As I had for just over two years, I felt very content and happy with my young life and all it contained. Then came my mother, with the news that we would be moving away to the city of Canfield. My mother soothed my slight worry with the knowledge that Canfield was just a few minutes away from Youngstown, Ohio, where I had lived for all the time before the third grade, and where the vast majority of my family resided. She pointed out that I was content with life there once, and could indeed be more happy in the area than before. Thus, I meekly accepted the move, and came to expect nothing severely ill of it. That expectation was a miscalculation. My living in Canfield proved to be detrimental to my physical and emotional health, and served greatly to change the core of my personality. The effect of living in Canfield brought onto me before the others listed previously, and the effect that served actually to precipitate the other two effects, was the damage to my emotional health. That effect was due to rather prevalent amounts of bullying that I experienced within Canfield Village Middle School. Other students would often mock me for my oddities. • 40. Difference Between Moral Relativism And Moral Objectivism Essay Assignment #1 Morality seeks to provide a moral agreement that binds the people in a society by providing a blueprint of shared values that dictate what is right and wrong. The two principles of morality are moral objectivism and moral relativism. The thesis of this essay is that moral relativism is a better guide to morality as compared to moral objectivity as it puts things into perspective by considering moral ideas and variables on a universal understanding. Moral relativity cannot be completely ignored. As morality is a practical activity, relativity provides a better moral scope compared to moral objectivism. Moral objectivism could be appropriate if the current order of things in today s universe is obliterated or if people live as hermits that do not interact with others. Morals are relative to cultures and individuals. The same activity can have different moral values depending on a particular society, culture or persons. After the sauce comes the cheese. This is my favorite part of the pizza. It is easiest to use either shredded cheese so that you can simply sprinkle it over the pizza, or a block of cheese so that you can slice or shred it onto the pizza.
