Age Related Changes That Occur in the Cardiovascular System
Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System
Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System
In the normal conduction of the heart the electrical impulse starts in the SA node, also called the
pacemaker of the heart. The electrical impulse travels through the right atrium and through the
Bachmann s bundle into the left atrium. This stimulates the atria to contract. Next the signal travel
to the AV node. The AV node slightly delays the signal. This delay is needed for the heart
to beat
properly. Without this delay the atria and ventricles would beat at the same time. The electrical
signal then travels to the Bundle of His where it is split into the signals going to the right and left
ventricle. The signal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a disruption of the normal electrical signal. Bradycardia is caused by changes to the heart
related to aging. It is also a disruption of the normal electrical signal.
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition caused by the weakening of the heart and the
cardiovascular system. It develops when the heart is not able to pump enough blood. Some causes
of CHF would include, narrowed arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle coronary artery
disease, past heart attack, or myocardial infarction, with scar tissue that interferes with the heart
muscle s normal work, high blood pressure, heart valve disease, primary disease of the heart muscle
itself, called cardiomyopathy.
High blood pressure is the leading cause of CHF in the elderly. High blood bressure put high
demands on the heart to pump blood. This prolonged demand weakens the heart muscle over
time. The heart doesn t pump as efficiently as it should, the blood slows down and less blood is
pumped. The blood returning to the heart backs up in the veins forcing fluid from the blood
vessels into tissues of the feet and legs. The swelling that results is call edema .

There is just a one person who sells products or services and there are no incentives which help to
break this monopoly. There are many monopoly industries in the market. In monopoly, they use
patents because they don t like if someone s copy their inventions.
Adversely effects on international market and trade
The first price for game software was $US5.99 and it was unchanged. Low fee made it impossible
for the majority of software companies to compete and most of the competitors were either bought
by SesamWare or went out of business within three years. SesamWare was once again at the center
of an international lawsuit, this time for subverting free market competition.

Social Order Research Paper
In the alleged undeveloped social orders, components of radical political, monetary and social
change are broadly apparent. For sure such social orders have seen significant advances in industrial
change, mass transportation and correspondence, and also technology advances. In many parts of
the world, change of economicsactivities and their expulsion from the family and community
settings and in addition modifications in the family structure and labor market differing qualities is
generally clear (CCP, n.d). In many social orders, the transition procedure from traditional settings
to modern settings is moving along quick without the essential time period for modification. The
same changes that took Europeand North America eras to finish are accomplished inside a range of
era in present day creating social orders. Thus, the transition procedure is regularly described by
disturbance, flimsiness, and fast social disintegration.
Change is an inalienable piece of society. Social orders are always showing signs of change to
adjust themselves to the contemporary lifestyle. Social researchers generally utilize the term
modernization to allude to the procedure through which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summer Vacation
It s not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and
I flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South
Carolina to see close relatives that we d been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is
often customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After
moving to Germany our experience with the sunand beach had been little to none. Needless to say,
we were all excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we d
forgotten what it was like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly
reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while
we were at the beach. When first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand,
crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels,
umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose
up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more
extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged around by the current. It wasn t long until
my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the
waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves
would crash down often taking us with them. When we d finish our fun

Weaknesses Of Oral Communication
According to Kendra Cherry (2016), to improve the nonverbal communication is by maintain and
making the eye contact when talking with other people. With the eye contact it promotes trust and
understanding.
Concentrate with the tone of voice when speaking. With tone of voice, it can delivered information
start from enthusiasm to disinterest to anger. Need to start noticing on how the tone of voice can
affects on how other respond by trying using the voice tone to emphasize ideas that want to
communicate.
Use a signal to make communication more attractive and meaningful. Verbal and nonverbal are
good combination to convey the message. Improve it by using the body language so that it can
reinforces and support what we saying especially when making a presentation or talking in a large
group. (Cherry, 2017)
Oral Communication in English
One of my biggest weaknesses is in oral communication which is involves speak in English and not
really influence in English language. There is several ways how I m improving it
With reading often can improve my basic oral communication skills and enhance the vocabulary
skills by reading the English newspaper, novels, magazine and etc. With using the dictionaries also
can improve by understanding in English language. Dictionaries explain everything in depth words
and it helping to learn in best communication and word s usage especially in my spare time, I can
always look for some uncommon words.
Listening is my another practicing for train myself to enhance oral communication by knowing and
understand each of the words they say. It takes time for me to understand the tone, accent spoken
words and sentences but however, gradually I will learn and understanding it a lot like listening in
English news, listen to my lecturer, people do presentation and etc.
Written communications
Another my weaknesses in communication skill is on written especially written memo, report, and
another formal letter. Here I found my solution and tips in how to improve my written skill.
According to Jesal Shetnha (2016) we don t have to write 1000 words per day just to improve our

Cause And Effects Of Climate Change
The Living Planet report calculates that humans are using 30% more resources than the Earth can
replenish each year (Jowit, 2008). Despite this shocking information, the scientific community
around the world are not focus only on a future lack of resources, but also with the possible cause
and effects of climate change. Both topics are directly related with the future of humanlife. Since
people need the nature to provide them food, fresh water and material to produce their daily thing,
the lack of resources is a reality. In addition, according to the article The Consequences of Climate
Change published by NASA scientists had predicted loos of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and
longer, more intense heat waves as some the effects of climate change by 2100 (NASA, n.d.). Thus,
it is clear that there is an agreement that both issues will seriously affect the future of humanity.
However, the scientific community has doubts about which of these themes is crucial for the
survival of human beings. Taking into account how quickly the natural resources have been
consumed, the effects will be felt earlier than the climate change outcomes. When it comes to the
environment, in this specific case about climate change and the depletion of natural resources,
reflection on how these issues relate to and influence human life is inevitable. In the case of climate
change, for example, the article Climate Change and Human Health published by the U.S Global

Moll Flanders As A Realist Characters
When looking at John Gass article, Moll Flanders and the Bastard Birth of Realist Character, he
approaches the conflicting question about how the audience is meant to feel about the main
protagonist, Moll, and whether we are meant to respect her or not. While heavily focusing on the
aspects of genre theory and irony, Gass argues that it is the multiple genreexpectations that give
Moll the reputation of being deep and complex, which leads to her controversial character. He uses
historical context to show how Moll can be seen as a villain, but continues to argue that it is
primarily the expectations brought on by genre theory that make people see her as a villain, based
on those certain expectations. Gass interpretation using genre theory analysis, irony, and historical
context to deeply analyze the novelstrengthen his argument that our feelings towards Moll aren t
the main argument, but instead, that Moll is a true realist character. Gass discusses Moll
Flanders and the text s complexity involving the main protagonist, Moll, questioning whether
the audience is supposed to feel she is evil and villainous, or just someone has the ability to grow
from her past as a criminal. He begins his argument by stating, in both life and literature, we tend
to think of persons as existing in excess of stereotype: as real selves that subsist apart from their
special roles and the attempts of others to define them (111). Being a woman in the 1700 s, Moll
is expected to be married to

Cuba Travel History
History/Future of Cuba Travel
White sand beaches and rolling mountains, wildlife rich rainforests and tumbling waterfalls, cigars
and rum, all wrapped up in defiantly Revolutionary politics; the island of Cuba can rightfully claim
to be one of the most singular destinations on the planet.
The largest and most populous island in the Caribbean, Cuba s 1960 socialist revolution and the
subsequent US trade embargo has frozen the island in time. Vintage, American cars still roar
through the dilapidated streets of its cities, while horses and carts clatter through the countryside.
The entire country lies just south of the United States (by about 90 miles). Turks and Caicos and the

The exact meaning of the name is unclear, but it may be translated either as where fertile land is
abundant (cubao), or great place (coabana).
The capital, Havana, is the largest city on the island. It serves up a mix of destruction and
debauchery. The city has a mix of beautifully restored colonial buildings that rub shoulders with the
rundown tenements of regular Cubans. Although having stark contrasts at times, Havana s salsa
rhythms, dancing and potent cocktails, visiting this city will make for an enthralling urban
experience unlike any other.
Cuba s other cities are experiences in themselves, and offer much culture, history, and charming
snapshots of the gorgeous country!
After being restricted for so long, the time has come to revisit (with freedom), all that Cuba has to
offer! As Cuba slowly opens up its doors to the US again, the demand for travel to Cuba has risen
significantly.
President Obama expanded legal Cuba travel opportunities for Americans in December of 2014. In
January of 2015, the Office of Foreign Assets Control issued regulations allowing nearly every
American to visit Cuba without applying for a license. However, it is important to note that legal

The French And Haitian Revolution
THE AMERICAN, FRENCH AND HAITIAN REVOLUTION3The Haitian RevolutionThe
Haitian Revolution which took place in the year 1791 and went up to 1803 faced twelve years of
insurgency and infighting in a bid to abolish the then entrenched slave trade (Geggus, 2002). The
revolt in Haiti started as a result of a misunderstanding between the mulattoes and the whites which
then escalated into a fully fledged warfare in which the slaves fought with the aim of taking back
their freedom from their white masters (Bryan, 1984). In summary, therefore, the HaitiRevolution
can be termed as a political movement which sought the abolishment and culmination of a long
ongoing slave trade, decolonization, and racial impartiality. In 1804, having won over the whites,...

As a result, the Napoleon together with the French revolutionary armies invaded the European
colonies armed with radical institutional reforms and changes (Acemoglu et al., 2009). The French
aimed to get rid of the judicial and economic set standards which had initially offered protection to
the aristocratic oligarchies, fraternity, clergy and the noble. In so doing, the French were seeking to
bring about the proposition of the law of equality for all humankind and thus promote liberty for
each and every citizen. History records those regions initially run and operated by the Frenchmen
proved prolific concerning economic sustenance after having undergone urbanization. Therefore the
French invasion had no adverse impact on the countries which were run by it and instead showeda
robust social, political and economic growth (Acemoglu et al., 2009). The French revolution,
therefore, lay to waste the constitutional underpinnings of power initially held by the few and
theelite of the society and brought about industrial, social and economic revolution thus paving the
way for a prosperous future. They brought a new age and era of change as they fought to break
down and destroy the antiquated, medieval systems of governance which were oppressive and

Life And Life Of Prison
Twenty years to life in prison, this is what I woke up to one cold December morning. I had been
falsely accused of a crime. It all started a couple of weeks ago. I had gone to the local gas station
to pick up some groceries to fix my family a surprise breakfast. I had planned to go home and fix
them eggs, bacon, waffles, and grits. It would have been perfect, just to have a family meal. I had
arrived at the gas station and proceeded to go into the store to get the groceries that I needed. All of
sudden a man with the gun entered the store. He told the man to give him all the money in the cash
register as he shot at some bottles behind the counter. After the clerk had finished loading the bag,

evidence of what had happened. The judge then asked the cop to play the video, but there was a
problem. The video had been encrypted with a password, and without the password, the video
could not be watched. The judge ruled that this evidence was irrelevant until it could be used.
The judge asked if there was any evidence to be presented. They had one more witness that went
to the stand. The other attorney asked what he remembered about the morning of December 3,
2034. He said that he remembered being in the gas station, and seeing me beside the body (8th
amendment) When I was back in the jail cell, I decided to ask him what the bail had been set at.
He said that there was no bail. He told me that I had been indicted, and I would be going to my
arraignment next. I just kept thinking of my family, and that I had to do everything in my power
to get out of here. I asked the cop also if someone had picked up my car.(4th amendment) He said
it can be picked up as soon as it has been searched. I immediately asked if there was a warrant. He
said that there was, and to get some sleep. He said that tomorrow would be a long day. The next

Immanuel Kant s Duties Towards Animals
In his work titles, Duties Towards Animals, Immanuel Kant makes the assertion that humans have
no obligations towards animals, as humans are superior to other forms of life ( Duties Towards
Animals 564). He defends this position by defining animals to not be self conscious, as Kant only
counts beings that are rational and autonomous in his principle of humanity (Groundwork of the
Metaphysics of Morals 43). This principle states that all humans should always be treated as an
end, and never merely as a means to achieve your own personal goals (Groundwork of the
Metaphysics of Morals 42). Kant proceeds to point out that we have a duty to have positive
interactions with animals so that humans can practice their gracious behavior, and ultimately apply
it to human interactions. It is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, it is declared that a human heart can be judged by the demeanor in which he handles
animals ( Duties Towards Animals 564). Kant makes the observation that animals take great care
of their young, which should lead humans to develop an admiration for them. Even seemingly
cruel and bloodthirsty animals, such as the wolf, exhibit love for their kin, which makes it hard to
justify cruel acts towards any animal ( Duties Towards Animals 564). Those who are desensitized
and used to killing irrational animals without a second thought, such as butchers and doctors, are
not permitted to serve on juries, as they are calloused from dealing with the death of animals (
Duties Towards Animals 565). Although scientists who use animals in experiments are morbid,
Kant deems this acceptable behavior, as their tests will ultimately benefit humans ( Duties Towards
Animals 565). Likewise, animals are referred to as man s instruments in this passage, implying that
their sole purpose of existence is to enhance man s quality of

Describe The Anne Arundel Community
The Anne Arundel County community houses are private homes. They are reflectively new, well
kept and maintained. The majority of the yards are neat; the grasses are well groomed, with little
or no sign of overgrowth. The few buildings are public and commercial buildings, which are closer
to the Anne Arundel County Community Mall and all of the buildings, are easily accessible, with
disabilities ramps for wheelchairs and reserve parking for the handicaps.
The parks and other public spaces were readily accessible and well maintained. There is one full
mile track, a basketball court, a soccer field, a baseball field, and 2 lawn tennis courts. All of the
infrastructures were actively used by variety of people (children, young teenagers and young adult,
adults, middle and old age). Although there were no museum and historic site, however, there were
libraries and it is not certain if the libraries reflect the community culture.
In the community, few trees were planted along the major street and plants were in the private

The Curse Of The Pharaoh
THE CURSE OF THE PHARAOH S Among the world s most famous curses is the curse
pharaohs. King Tutankhamen ruled Egypt as pharaoh for ten years until his death at age nineteen,
around 1324 B.C. Although he was famous for reversing the tumultuous religious reforms of his
father, Pharaoh Akhenaten. Tutankhamen s legacy was largely negated by his heirs. He was
hardly known to the modern world until 1922, when British archaeologist Howard Carter carved
through a doorway and entered the boy pharaoh s tomb, which had remained sealed for more than
3,200 years. The tomb s vase store of artifacts and treasure, intended to accompany the king into the
afterlife, revealed an incredible amount about royal life in ancient Egypt, and quickly made King
Tut the world s most famous pharaoh. Until his tomb was opened and that started the curse of
pharaohs . What is the history behind the curse? Is it the curse real? Since the mid 20th century,
many authors and documentaries have argued that the curse is real in the sense of being caused by
scientifically reasonable causes such as bacteria or radiation. Yet, the modern origins of Egyptian

to explain curses, and their changing uses from accusing disruption of the dead to entertaining

I would like to share my viewpoint besides this industry does have environmental side effects; we
cannot overlook a number of jobs this industry is providing to the job seeker. According to
environment journalists, oil refineries emit a lot of greenhouse gasses, but this scenario is also
covered up with the requirement to develop further on research and development of many eco
friendly techniques for the extraction of oil from the mining.
Even, the government should establish laws and regulations to deal with the problem of
greenhouse effects. They should plant the more plants and even grow double the number they chop

The Construction Of A Log Home
The construction of a log home is very different from conventional construction, even if people
have built a home in the past. Planning and research is key in a large project like this. The
carpenter should prepare for the task in all possible ways. In order for people to build a home that
meets their needs, they needto take into consideration the following steps and instructions (Building
Guide Step by Step Log Home). First, the person building the housemust be emotionally and
financially prepared. They can start by putting a down payment down, or finding out if they
need to apply for a loan. According to Ed Conarchy, a loan originator for Cherry Creek Mortgage
Company, when building a house, the most important thing to consider is the mortgage, so
people need to handle that situation right away. They can talk to mortgage professionals to get
advice. People must also find out if there are any fees needed to be paid for such as maintenance,
repair, or mortgage related fees. The carpenter should have his or her employment situation
properly handled as well. This means they should feel secure about their job. When building,
people should be prepared to stay in one place for a long period of time too. People must realize
timing and readiness are the crucial components to examine (5 Signs You re Ready/ Bankrate.com)
After the decision to build a house is made, people can decide on the type of log they want to

The purpose of the march is to call out on the demands of the movement strike at the heart of the

student debt, and tuition free public college (Redzeal). What this means is that PYO KC brought

Extraordinary Impact of Inventions of the Industrial...
The Industrial Revolution was another of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of
civilization . This quote by Stephen Gardiner pretty much summarizes a long, laborious period of
time into a single 15 word quote. Urbanization, industrialization, and contamination, all formed part
of this significant period of time in European history. Nevertheless, one aspect that better
symbolized the Industrial Revolutionwas the sudden surge of new inventions and machinery that
begun during the Industrial Revolution. Among the numerous inventions that appeared during the
Industrial Revolution, the spinning jenny, the steam locomotive, and the steam enginewere three of
the most remarkable. The spinning jenny, steam locomotive, and... Show more content on

They were a relatively efficient and cheap way to transport goods. Nonetheless, canals, being built
in water, could not reach all places of the country or other parts of England. George Stephenson, as
well as other pioneers in the development of new transportation methods, invented the steam
locomotive, which moved along iron rails on land. Steam locomotives were cheaper and swifter
than canals, and did not have to follow the course of a river. Thus, steam locomotives could go to
more places to transport goods. Additionally, steam locomotives allowed people to travel to far
more places than canals allowed. Thanks to the steam locomotive, transportation became cheaper
and more efficient. But even the revolutionary steam locomotive could not compare to another
Industrial Revolution invention, without which no industry of the time could operate. In the 1700
s people found themselves in the need for coal to power machinery. To address this need, British
inventor Thomas Newcomen developed the steam engine, a machine used to pump water out of
coal mines. The steam engine sought to replace horse powered pumps in mines with a cheaper
machine. Yet, the initial steam engine worked at a slow pace, was bulky and space consuming, and
wasted too much energy, making it highly inefficient. In time, James Watt enhanced Newcomen s
design by improving its usage of energy and reducing its size. Later, since the steam engine
became so useful, they began to be used to power boats,

Catullus Affair With Lesbia
The tale of Catullus and his affair with Lesbia is an interesting one. He conveys his emotions of
love, happiness, sadness, and possibly anger throughout the poems. In V, their love affair is in its
honeymoon stage of extreme love and affection. Catullus especially conveys these emotions in the
line Let thoughts kisses rain, a thousand bliss. The poem sounds as if he were directly talking to
Lesbia and telling her to be just as enraptured by their loveas he is. Although her emotions are not

LXXXVII explains Catullusis very in love with Lesbia, but it sounds as if someone were doubting

How To Grow Corn Essay
Corn: The Planting Of Growing a crop of corn can be very rewarding. With some hard work and
a little bit of luck, it can be very profitable. Planting corn doesn t sound too complicated, but
knowing how to do it right can be the difference between losing money and making a profit. To
get started planting your field of corn, you will need access to a tractor, a field cultivator, a
planter, fertilizer, seed corn and a lot of farm diesel. Of course, you will need to own some
farmland or be leasing the farming rights from the landowner. If you are fortunate enough to have
farmland with irrigation, it can diminish one of the biggest risks associated with farming. Droughts
or dry spells are unforgiving, and no matter how well you prepare the soil, you will need rain or
irrigation water. Using good farming practices will ensure greater corn yields and a higher profit
margin!

To get the first set of rows straight, it helps to set some markers in a straight line from one end of
the field to the other as a guide to follow; this will be best with two people. Begin by putting
something that you can see from the other end of the field, at the other end of the field,
measured out from the edge of the farm to the desired distance. Usually, a five gallon bucket will
do. Then drive back towards the planter and set a marker about a hundred yards in front of the
tractor, measured out from the edge of the field the same distance as the bucket on the other end.
We use cheap paper plates buried about half way down for the markers, they break down quick
in the rain and are biodegradable. We can now have someone drive back towards the bucket and
stop every couple hundred yards and set a plate in line with the others, the person left at the planter
can wave him right or left to help get them aligned as straight as

The Civil Rights Of The United States Essay
The United states has been called the, Land of The Free since its independence was won from
Great Britain, however, until 1965 Free only applied to a select demographic, white, land
owning males. The most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so
today is the African American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were
introduced into the colony of Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in
1831 slavery was finally abolished and all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help
these newly freed slaves begin their new lives 2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose
from this new found freedom and the struggle didn t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the
founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World
War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and several supreme court cases, that African American
finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after these several legal advancements and many different
civil rights movements the playing field, after many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven
and the day by day struggles continued. Even today, 396 years later, there are still racial bias and
inequalities toward the African American community. While in the past or present changes have
been and are being made by either the executive, legislative, or judicial branch to help African
Americans achieve universal freedom and equality, but it is unclear

Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines teufel hunden, meaning Devil
Dogs. These beasts were the ferocious mountain dogs of Bavarian folklore. (Sturkey 2003) Soon
afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a
Marine Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took root
with both the Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted the English
Bulldog as their mascot. (Sturkey 2003) Although the Marine Corps has established itself as a
premier fighting force, there were still rumbles among officials. The original culprits of the war
against the Marines were the senior officers in the US Army. This started immediately after WW
I. During the build up for WW II Army General George C. Marshall was quoted as saying that his
job was to keep the Marine Corps, small, very small. General Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as
making similar comments. They were not the only ones. (wanaki@infi.net Online) Both the Army

Comorbidity mode: For an extra level of difficulty to pandemic would be to remove the card limit
but for every card after 7 at the end of your turn, you must draw an extra infection card. So, if you
have 9 cards you would draw 2 infection cards. The meaning of this allows for more of a chance to

faster. So, every time a player draws a card past 7 they will be given the choice to discard or

From the moment I was situated nude for my initial strip search, I adhered to the fact that I am

CCWF is in full alignment with the retributivist philosophy, so why then do I have feelings of
optimism while incarcerated here?
Utilitarians view punishment as a pathway lined with deterrence... one that ultimately leads
criminals towards rehabilitation. This is a forward looking approach, as it focuses on the future of
criminal behavior (Hemmens et al., 2013). This perspective concentrates on two separate entities.
Those being the person whom is punished, as well as the other members of society. If one were to
ask a utilitarian, Why Punish? the response would likely be, We must punish in order to promote
good and prevent evil... in the future. There is little focus on the crime that has already been
committed or under what circumstances that it occurred. The concern is with what society should
do next in order to prevent it from happening again. Utilitarians believe that if no good
consequences result from punishment, then no punishment is justified. One could look at this
philosophy of punishment as a doorway of opportunity for criminals, but also as a doorway of
fear... one that keeps law abiding citizens from

Pros And Cons Of The Parliament Of Great Britain
Scotland and England have a long standing history with one another. They have always been in
conflict with one another, especially when England tried to take over Scotland. But eventually,
England succeeded in their attempts and, in 1706, their acts of union were passed. They eventually
took effect in May 1, 1707. That day the Parliament of Great Britain was formed. The reason each
side agreed on the Union was because both sides had something to gain from it. The English did not
want the Scottish to choose a monarch from the one sitting on the English throne. On the other
hand, the Scottish had a money problem from their attempt to colonize the Isthmus of Panama in
the 1690s. But a large stretch of time has elapsed since that Union. A vote was held in Scotlandon
September 18, 2014 on whether or not Scotland should succeed from the United Kingdom. The
Scottish had a rather large to make. Both independence from and dependence on the United
Kingdom have their advantages and disadvantages. If argued in the point of view of Scotland, there
are many pros for the whole kingdom. The first advantage is in the government. The Scottish
Parliament is more democratic than the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason this result came about was because of all the disadvantages there is to succeeding. The
prime reason Scotland voted to not succeed was because unity is strength. Being a part of a strong,

Scotland s voice on the world stage would decrease tremendously. Another large reason is the
United Kingdom will cut them off financially. Since Scotland is a part of the UK, the country gives
them money so they can sustain themselves. Without that connection, the UK has no reason to shell
out money to them. This is an economic gamble to Scotland, especially in times of recession and

Judge Haselton s Case Summary
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this
escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and
wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case
being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal,
and the justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses
ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the
original sentence was constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel,
Judge Haselton summarizes the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was
sentenced by the Lower Court to 111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25
accounts of attempted murder. Several medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the
hearing stating that, he is and remains dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal
consist of the sentencing being cruel and unusual and that the protection of society was considered
more than reformation. The higher court denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock
the conscience. The presiding judge also denied that reformation was of higher significance than the
protection of society because there were multiple victims affected in a public setting. Audience,

Biological Weapons And Chemical Weapons
Abstract
Biochemical weapons distribute deadly toxins and microorganisms, such as viruses and bacteria,
with the intent too inflict disease among humans, animals, and agriculture. Biochemical attacks
could in fact result in destruction of food plots, temporarily upsetting a small community, and
killing large amounts of people, or more outcomes. The way that a biochemical weapon is
dispersed depends on many factors. Such as: the agent itself; the preparation; its durability; and
route of infection. most agents can be spread as an aerosol, which means the agent can be inhaled
or can infect a susceptible place on the skin, like a cut or wound. Attackers can also ... Show more

In my opinion, this depiction of the Last Judgment is beautifully rendered and very stylized.
The idea of commissioning an enormous fresco, the largest ever painted in that century, depicting
the Last Judgment, was probably suggested to Clement VII by the traumatic events that were
undermining the unity of Christians at the time. After the pope s death, on September 25, 1534,
and only two days after Michelangelo s arrival in Rome, his successor, Paul III Farnese confirmed
the commission to Michelangelo, and in April 1535, scaffolding was put up in front of the altar
wall. Even before its official unveiling, the Judgment became the target of violent criticisms of a
moral character. All that had happened in the church in the years that preceded the Judgment,
including the Reformation and the Sack of Rome, had a direct influence on the work s conception:
painted on the altar wall, the Last Judgment was to represent humanity face to face with salvation.
The first impression I have when faced with the Last Judgment is that of a truly universal event, at
the center of which stands the powerful figure of Christ. His raised right hand compels the figures
on the left hand side, which are trying to ascend, to be plunged down towards Charon and Minos,
the Judge of the Underworld while his left hand is drawing up the chosen people on his right in an

22 12Reasons why a dual pricing approach to transfer pricing is not widely used in practice include:
1.The manager of the supplying division uses a cost based method to record revenues and does not
have sufficient incentives to control costs.
2.This approach does not provide clear signals to division managers about the level of
decentralization top management wants. 3. This approach tends to insulate managers from the

22 13Disagree. Cost and price information are often useful starting points in the negotiation
process. Costs, particularly variable costs of the selling division, serve as a floor below which
the selling division would be unwilling to sell. Prices that the buying division would pay to
purchase products from the outside market serves as a ceiling above which the buying division
would be unwilling to buy. The price negotiated by the two divisions will, in general, have no
specific relationship to either costs or prices. But the negotiated price will generally fall between
the variable costs based floor and the market price based ceiling.

Essay The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission
Abstract: The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission and its possible effects on the
institutional balance and the question of legitimacy
I. Defining Corruption
The first chapter is an attempt to define corruption. It is important to divide overlapping and
complicated terms such as corruption, scandal and fraud. Corruption is defined as an illegal
transaction, where both actors benefit from their special position in the market or the government.
Scandal is the public reaction to allegations of corruption and thus it is interconnected with the
issue of legitimacy. Fraud, however is a purely criminal cathegory.
The European Commission is a multicultural and multinational institution of the European Union so
it is vital to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the northern part of the continent there is more emphasis on the notions of incompatibility and
the conflict of interest. There are problems however around the financing of political parties.
II. The Organization of the European Commission
The Commission is at thte heart of the Union. It has a very important role in formulating policies,
initiating legislation, overseeing implementation, make administrative decisions.
The Commission had a great impact on the poltics of the Communities from the earliest times. The
ambitions of the Commission to gain more influence in European decision making caused frequent
conflict with the Council of Ministers, which saw the strengthening of the supranational
Commission as a main threat to the souvereignity of the member states. This conflict was
accentuated at the Luxembourg crisis in 1965, which was the greatest institutional crisis of the
Community. The crisis was caused by De Gaulle`s resistance of the Commission`s proposal of
introducing majority voting in the Council instead of unanimity. The French President paralysed
the working of the Community by practicing the quot;empty chair quot; politics, boykotting the
Council of Ministers. The crisis was solved by he Luxembourg compromise, which kept the veto of
the member states.
The first sign of corruption in the Commission was the 1979 report of the Court of Auditors, which
accused the commissioners of using the community funds for private purposes and scrunitized the

Cation Flame Test
The aqueous solution of silver nitrate, AgNOв‚ѓ, when added to the aqueous solution of potassium
chloride, forms a bright white precipitate of silver chloride. Using the technique of gravimetric
analysis, the precipitates were extracted from the liquid onto filter paper through the use of vacuum
filtration. The purpose of this aspect of the experiment is to be able to to calculate the molar mass
of the unknown compound precipitate to compare to the known compound of KCl. Due to there
being excess compound remaining in the vacuum, centrifuge tubes were utilized to further extract
the compound from the liquid. A centrifuge works by spinning the substance at a high speed,
working to separate the precipitate from the water. The centrifugal force... Show more content on

When holding the wire in the Bunsen flame, which had been previously dipped in the unknown
solution, the edge of the flame appeared to emit a pale green color, which would indicate that our
unknown sample would contain the element barium. This conclusion was incorrect and upon
redoing the Flame test and making the unknown solution more concentrated by adding less water, it
was found that the edge of the flame was actually pale violet in color, indicating that the element in
our sample was potassium. Additionally, in week 1, our group encountered another error while
analyzing the properties of our unknown sample through the anion tests. The two cation tests;
Flame and Ammonium concluded that the first element in our compound was in fact potassium.
The problem arose when conducting the anion test to determine whether the unknown sample was
additionally composed of either a sulfate or a chloride. Initially, our sample tested positive for both
sulfate and chloride due the formations of white precipitates. These results indicated that the
unknown sample would be potassium sulfate, but redoing the experimental test again led to the
actual conclusion of a negative result for sulfate due to the absence of a white precipitate. With only
a positive result for chloride, our unknown sample was in fact potassium chloride. Human error
throughout the process of determining the weight of the precipitate with vacuum

Manatees Research Paper
Also known as the sea cow, the manatee has earned the name Gentle Giants of the Sea (Prince
Groff 13). Manatees are large marine animals that breathe air. Although they may look like boulders,
these blocks of blubber are graceful swimmers. The manatee s usual diet, behavioral patterns,
uncommon habitat, and hair raising predators make manatees peculiar animals of the ocean.
This species has a typical diet. The manatee usually eats wet vegetation, making them primarily
herbivores. Manatees have occasionally been seen to eat foods other than plants. Antillean
manatees have been known to eat fish from nets and West African manatees have been to eat clams
(Reynolds and Odell, 1991). Manatees also feed on fallen acorns on surface and ... Show more

This species is classified as a semisocial animal, which means that they are solitary animals while
nursing their young, but casually gather into herds. Manatees are non aggressive, non territorial
herbivores that spend most of their time feeding (6 8 hours per day) and resting (2 12 hours per
day). The remainder of their day is spent travelling, investigating objects, and socializing by
interacting with other manatees (Seaworld). While they are resting, they are either at the surface of
the water or at the bottom of the seabed. Occasionally, manatees can be seen participating in group
activities, including follow the leader and body surfing. The sirenia is a social and solitary animal.
The sirenia s habitat is located in the warm coastal waters. In fact, manatees cannot live in water
colder than 68℉. They can be found where there is an abundance of seagrass or vegetation.
This species can live in either freshwater or saltwater and are usually by boating docks. They
migrate to near the equator in the colder months. During the summer months, they travel as far
north as Massachusetts and as far west as Louisiana and Texas. Manatees are seen in coastal

Mental Illness In Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
Throughout her life, novelist Virginia Woolf suffered with mental illness, and she ultimately
ended her life at age 59. As art often imitates life, it is not surprising that characters in Woolf s
works also struggle with mental illness. One of her novels, Mrs. Dalloway, recounts a day in the
life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high society woman living in London, and those who run in her circle.
As the novel progresses the reader sees one of the characters, Septimus, struggle with post traumatic
stress disorder brought on by serving in war. At the end of the story, he commits suicide. While
there is no explicit articulation of any other character suffering from mental illness in the novel,
Septimus is not alone. Through her thoughts and actions, we can deduce that Clarissa also
endures mental and emotional suffering. Though Clarissa does not actually attempt to end her
life in the novel, her mental and emotional suffering lead her to exhibit suicidal tendencies. To
prove this, I will examine Clarissa s thoughts and actions from a psychological perspective.
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the following are
considered warning signs of suicide talking about feeling trapped, and talking about a feeling of
hopelessness or having no reason to live ( Suicidal Behavior ). In Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa rarely
talks openly about how she is feeling, so the other characters in the novel seldom see Clarissa as
anything but the version of herself she

Death and the African American Literature
Racism in the United States is without a doubt one of the most gruesome forms of inhumanity. This
disease generated the dehumanization of slavery which has taken the lives of innumerable innocent
African Americans. It has also robbed a whole race of their identities, heritages and cultures.
Throughout the myriad of novels, excerpts, poems, videos and other forms of literature that we
encountered in this course, it is unmistakable that the African Americanliterary tradition
demonstrates that the past (the unbelievable sufferings of African Americans) can never be arrested
and forgotten. The many that have perished at the feet of racismare the history of African Americans
themselves, and the African American literary tradition makes it a... Show more content on

The lyrics to spirituals such as I feel like my time ain t long and Many Thousands Gone help
develop the idea of compounding loss. The unknown speakers and singers in these songs are not
just mourning over the losses of the past, but impending losses as well their own death. Such
spirituals as these two show that death in slavery is a cycle, history often repeats itself. Just as
one is killed, many more will face the same fate. The idea of compounding loss is a terrible way
to think and function, for one to think about their impending death and openly succumb to it is
unbelievable and beyond words, but that is the reality that slavery brings to its captives. A cycle
of pain and misery has been eating away at them too much and too long that all they can do is
hope for the sweet relief of death. Douglass Narrative and Negro spirituals have done a remarkable
job as being the establishment of history and literature of the African American lives, now future
writers have been given the background to begin their own writings. Although Abel Meeropol was
not an African American writer (he was Jewish), the vividness of his 1936 poem Strange Fruit,
follows the traditional writing techniques of slave narratives and spirituals in exemplifying the
viciousness and massacre that African Americans are still encountering. Meeropol confirm that
although almost a century has passed since the Narrative and these Negro spirituals; it is still
evident that the

Age Related Changes That Occur in the Cardiovascular System Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System Age Related Changes that Occur in the Cardiovascular System In the normal conduction of the heart the electrical impulse starts in the SA node, also called the pacemaker of the heart. The electrical impulse travels through the right atrium and through the Bachmann s bundle into the left atrium. This stimulates the atria to contract. Next the signal travel to the AV node. The AV node slightly delays the signal. This delay is needed for the heart to beat properly. Without this delay the atria and ventricles would beat at the same time. The electrical signal then travels to the Bundle of His where it is split into the signals going to the right and left ventricle. The signal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition caused by the weakening of the heart and the cardiovascular system. It develops when the heart is not able to pump enough blood. Some causes of CHF would include, narrowed arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle coronary artery disease, past heart attack, or myocardial infarction, with scar tissue that interferes with the heart muscle s normal work, high blood pressure, heart valve disease, primary disease of the heart muscle itself, called cardiomyopathy. High blood pressure is the leading cause of CHF in the elderly. High blood bressure put high demands on the heart to pump blood. This prolonged demand weakens the heart muscle over time. The heart doesn t pump as efficiently as it should, the blood slows down and less blood is pumped. The blood returning to the heart backs up in the veins forcing fluid from the blood vessels into tissues of the feet and legs. The swelling that results is call edema . For sure such social orders have seen significant advances in industrial change, mass transportation and correspondence, and also technology advances. In many parts of the world, change of economicsactivities and their expulsion from the family and community settings and in addition modifications in the family structure and labor market differing qualities is generally clear (CCP, n.d). In many social orders, the transition procedure from traditional settings to modern settings is moving along quick without the essential time period for modification. Thus, the transition procedure is regularly described by disturbance, flimsiness, and fast social disintegration. Change is an inalienable piece of society. • 7. Summer Vacation It s not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and I flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South Carolina to see close relatives that we d been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is often customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After moving to Germany our experience with the sunand beach had been little to none. Needless to say, we were all excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we d forgotten what it was like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while we were at the beach. When first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand, crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels, umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged around by the current. It wasn t long until my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves would crash down often taking us with them. When we d finish our fun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Cause And Effects Of Climate Change The Living Planet report calculates that humans are using 30% more resources than the Earth can replenish each year (Jowit, 2008). Despite this shocking information, the scientific community around the world are not focus only on a future lack of resources, but also with the possible cause and effects of climate change. Both topics are directly related with the future of humanlife. Since people need the nature to provide them food, fresh water and material to produce their daily thing, the lack of resources is a reality. In addition, according to the article The Consequences of Climate Change published by NASA scientists had predicted loos of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves as some the effects of climate change by 2100 (NASA, n.d.). Thus, it is clear that there is an agreement that both issues will seriously affect the future of humanity. However, the scientific community has doubts about which of these themes is crucial for the survival of human beings. Taking into account how quickly the natural resources have been consumed, the effects will be felt earlier than the climate change outcomes. When it comes to the environment, in this specific case about climate change and the depletion of natural resources, reflection on how these issues relate to and influence human life is inevitable. • 10. Moll Flanders As A Realist Characters When looking at John Gass article, Moll Flanders and the Bastard Birth of Realist Character, he approaches the conflicting question about how the audience is meant to feel about the main protagonist, Moll, and whether we are meant to respect her or not. While heavily focusing on the aspects of genre theory and irony, Gass argues that it is the multiple genreexpectations that give Moll the reputation of being deep and complex, which leads to her controversial character. He uses historical context to show how Moll can be seen as a villain, but continues to argue that it is primarily the expectations brought on by genre theory that make people see her as a villain, based on those certain expectations. Gass interpretation using genre theory analysis, irony, and historical context to deeply analyze the novelstrengthen his argument that our feelings towards Moll aren t the main argument, but instead, that Moll is a true realist character. Gass discusses Moll Flanders and the text s complexity involving the main protagonist, Moll, questioning whether the audience is supposed to feel she is evil and villainous, or just someone has the ability to grow from her past as a criminal. He begins his argument by stating, in both life and literature, we tend to think of persons as existing in excess of stereotype: as real selves that subsist apart from their special roles and the attempts of others to define them (111). Being a woman in the 1700 s, Moll is expected to be married to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The French And Haitian Revolution THE AMERICAN, FRENCH AND HAITIAN REVOLUTION3The Haitian RevolutionThe Haitian Revolution which took place in the year 1791 and went up to 1803 faced twelve years of insurgency and infighting in a bid to abolish the then entrenched slave trade (Geggus, 2002). The revolt in Haiti started as a result of a misunderstanding between the mulattoes and the whites which then escalated into a fully fledged warfare in which the slaves fought with the aim of taking back their freedom from their white masters (Bryan, 1984). In summary, therefore, the HaitiRevolution can be termed as a political movement which sought the abolishment and culmination of a long ongoing slave trade, decolonization, and racial impartiality. As a result, the Napoleon together with the French revolutionary armies invaded the European colonies armed with radical institutional reforms and changes (Acemoglu et al., 2009). In so doing, the French were seeking to bring about the proposition of the law of equality for all humankind and thus promote liberty for each and every citizen. History records those regions initially run and operated by the Frenchmen proved prolific concerning economic sustenance after having undergone urbanization. Therefore the French invasion had no adverse impact on the countries which were run by it and instead showeda robust social, political and economic growth (Acemoglu et al., 2009). The French revolution, therefore, lay to waste the constitutional underpinnings of power initially held by the few and theelite of the society and brought about industrial, social and economic revolution thus paving the way for a prosperous future. It would have been perfect, just to have a family meal. I had arrived at the gas station and proceeded to go into the store to get the groceries that I needed. • 14. Immanuel Kant s Duties Towards Animals In his work titles, Duties Towards Animals, Immanuel Kant makes the assertion that humans have no obligations towards animals, as humans are superior to other forms of life ( Duties Towards Animals 564). He defends this position by defining animals to not be self conscious, as Kant only counts beings that are rational and autonomous in his principle of humanity (Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals 43). This principle states that all humans should always be treated as an end, and never merely as a means to achieve your own personal goals (Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals 42). Kant proceeds to point out that we have a duty to have positive interactions with animals so that humans can practice their gracious behavior, and ultimately apply it to human interactions. It is... Even seemingly cruel and bloodthirsty animals, such as the wolf, exhibit love for their kin, which makes it hard to justify cruel acts towards any animal ( Duties Towards Animals 564). Those who are desensitized and used to killing irrational animals without a second thought, such as butchers and doctors, are not permitted to serve on juries, as they are calloused from dealing with the death of animals ( Duties Towards Animals 565). King Tutankhamen ruled Egypt as pharaoh for ten years until his death at age nineteen, around 1324 B.C. Although he was famous for reversing the tumultuous religious reforms of his father, Pharaoh Akhenaten. Tutankhamen s legacy was largely negated by his heirs. He was hardly known to the modern world until 1922, when British archaeologist Howard Carter carved through a doorway and entered the boy pharaoh s tomb, which had remained sealed for more than 3,200 years. The tomb s vase store of artifacts and treasure, intended to accompany the king into the afterlife, revealed an incredible amount about royal life in ancient Egypt, and quickly made King Tut the world s most famous pharaoh. Until his tomb was opened and that started the curse of pharaohs . What is the history behind the curse? Is it the curse real? Since the mid 20th century, many authors and documentaries have argued that the curse is real in the sense of being caused by scientifically reasonable causes such as bacteria or radiation. Yet, the modern origins of Egyptian mummy curse stories, their developed mainly in European cultures, the shift from magic to science to explain curses, and their changing uses from accusing disruption of the dead to entertaining movies. Nevertheless, one aspect that better symbolized the Industrial Revolutionwas the sudden surge of new inventions and machinery that begun during the Industrial Revolution. Nonetheless, canals, being built in water, could not reach all places of the country or other parts of England. George Stephenson, as well as other pioneers in the development of new transportation methods, invented the steam locomotive, which moved along iron rails on land. Steam locomotives were cheaper and swifter than canals, and did not have to follow the course of a river. Thus, steam locomotives could go to more places to transport goods. Additionally, steam locomotives allowed people to travel to far more places than canals allowed. Thanks to the steam locomotive, transportation became cheaper and more efficient. But even the revolutionary steam locomotive could not compare to another Industrial Revolution invention, without which no industry of the time could operate. In the 1700 s people found themselves in the need for coal to power machinery. To address this need, British inventor Thomas Newcomen developed the steam engine, a machine used to pump water out of coal mines. The steam engine sought to replace horse powered pumps in mines with a cheaper machine. Yet, the initial steam engine worked at a slow pace, was bulky and space consuming, and wasted too much energy, making it highly inefficient. In time, James Watt enhanced Newcomen s design by improving its usage of energy and reducing its size. Later, since the steam engine became so useful, they began to be used to power boats, ... They have always been in conflict with one another, especially when England tried to take over Scotland. But eventually, England succeeded in their attempts and, in 1706, their acts of union were passed. They eventually took effect in May 1, 1707. That day the Parliament of Great Britain was formed. The reason each side agreed on the Union was because both sides had something to gain from it. The English did not want the Scottish to choose a monarch from the one sitting on the English throne. (Petrov) There are two main reasons cause this area aridity. First, within the latitude of the Tropic of Cancer, it receives much sun radiation, so the air is heated and rise. Approaching the mid latitude around 39В° N, air descends, and subtropical high pressure belt results. That is to say, high pressure brings considerable sunshine, hot summer weather, and very little precipination. The way that a biochemical weapon is dispersed depends on many factors. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, this depiction of the Last Judgment is beautifully rendered and very stylized. The idea of commissioning an enormous fresco, the largest ever painted in that century, depicting the Last Judgment, was probably suggested to Clement VII by the traumatic events that were undermining the unity of Christians at the time. After the pope s death, on September 25, 1534, and only two days after Michelangelo s arrival in Rome, his successor, Paul III Farnese confirmed the commission to Michelangelo, and in April 1535, scaffolding was put up in front of the altar wall. Even before its official unveiling, the Judgment became the target of violent criticisms of a moral character. All that had happened in the church in the years that preceded the Judgment, including the Reformation and the Sack of Rome, had a direct influence on the work s conception: painted on the altar wall, the Last Judgment was to represent humanity face to face with salvation. The first impression I have when faced with the Last Judgment is that of a truly universal event, at the center of which stands the powerful figure of Christ. His raised right hand compels the figures on the left hand side, which are trying to ascend, to be plunged down towards Charon and Minos, the Judge of the Underworld while his left hand is drawing up the chosen people on his right in an irresistible current of strength. This approach tends to insulate managers from the frictions of the marketplace because costs, not market prices, affect the revenues of the supplying division. 4. It leads to problems in computing the taxable income of subunits located in different tax jurisdictions. 22 13Disagree. Cost and price information are often useful starting points in the negotiation process. Costs, particularly variable costs of the selling division, serve as a floor below which the selling division would be unwilling to sell. Prices that the buying division would pay to purchase products from the outside market serves as a ceiling above which the buying division would be unwilling to buy. • 45. Mental Illness In Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Throughout her life, novelist Virginia Woolf suffered with mental illness, and she ultimately ended her life at age 59. As art often imitates life, it is not surprising that characters in Woolf s works also struggle with mental illness. One of her novels, Mrs. Dalloway, recounts a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a high society woman living in London, and those who run in her circle. As the novel progresses the reader sees one of the characters, Septimus, struggle with post traumatic stress disorder brought on by serving in war. At the end of the story, he commits suicide. While there is no explicit articulation of any other character suffering from mental illness in the novel, Septimus is not alone. Through her thoughts and actions, we can deduce that Clarissa also endures mental and emotional suffering. Though Clarissa does not actually attempt to end her life in the novel, her mental and emotional suffering lead her to exhibit suicidal tendencies. To prove this, I will examine Clarissa s thoughts and actions from a psychological perspective. According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the following are considered warning signs of suicide talking about feeling trapped, and talking about a feeling of hopelessness or having no reason to live ( Suicidal Behavior ). In Mrs. Dalloway, Clarissa rarely talks openly about how she is feeling, so the other characters in the novel seldom see Clarissa as anything but the version of herself she ... The idea of compounding loss is a terrible way to think and function, for one to think about their impending death and openly succumb to it is unbelievable and beyond words, but that is the reality that slavery brings to its captives.
