Roland Barthes s Theory Of Semiotics Through Digital...
1. INTRODUCTION
Semiotics is the study of sign systems. It explores how words and other signs convey meaning. In
semiotics, a sign is anything that stands in for something other than itself. This lesson focuses
primarily on linguistic signs. Roland Barthes is a theorist that is particularly interested in how things
mean rather than what things mean. Through Barthes and Saussure s theories, the understanding of
semiotics through digital advertising will be represented through an argument of comparing these two
unique key thinkers. The comparison between these two theorists share its importance when
understanding advertising through visual examples. Once analyzing an example of digital advertising,
these separate theories will serve as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to certain mythologies, Barthes main interest was in semiology. He is highly skilled at
finding, manipulating and exploiting theories and concepts of how things come to mean before anyone
else does so. The basics of semiotics and how it is applied to many forms of imagery and context is
applied through Barthes theory. This theory consists of three orders of specification, denotation,
connotation and myth (Chandler 2006,18).
Within semiotics, denotation and connotation are terms describing the relationship between the
signifier and its signified, and an analytic distinction is made between two types of signifiers:
denotative signified and a connotative signified (Panofsky 1970a,51 3). This meaning includes both
denotation and connotation through the action and reaction of the representation of signs.
Denotation is described as the definitional, literal or obvious meaning of a sign according to the art
historian Erwin Panofsky (Hasenmueller 1978). The denotation of a representational visual image is
what all viewers from any culture and at any time would recognise the image as depicting
(Hasenmueller 1978). As Roland Barthes noted, De Saussure created a model of signs that focused on
denotation at the expense of connotation and it was left to subsequent theorists to offer an account of
this important dimension of meaning (Barthes

Monitoring, Monitoring And Termination Of Clients

It is important for case managers to contact all agencies and / or programs that are primarily
responsible for their clients, meeting their goals which is stated in each individual s service plans
(Summers, 2012).
By receiving feedback from such person (s) will notify case managers what is the best alternative, if
any, for their clients. Case managers should question if their clients moving toward their goal
effectively; should the service (s) be continued, discontinued, or modified. It is in the best interest of
all case managers to monitor and contact, parent (s), person (s), agencies, and services associate with
their client s case to document any and all noticeable changes, no matter how great or small. This is
very beneficial to their clients in meeting their needs. On the other hand, there are obligations case
managers must meet for their agency. Most services provided to their clients are funded through state
and public funding. These funds are limited and must be spent wisely. Therefore, it is essential for
case managers to determine what form of action need to be taken; services their client will be or are
receiving based on individual goal (s). Along with, monitoring their clients progress and revising, if
necessary. Each appropriate course of action case managers makes based on their clients need could

The Melian Dialogue, Written By Thucydides
The Melian Dialogue , written by Thucydides, is a classic argument mainly over power and realism
taken place under international politics. In this dialogue, consisting of the Athenians and the Melians,
the Athenians arrive on the island where the Melians had resided in attempt to conquer it. At this time,
the Athenians are at war with the Spartans and see that the island can only benefit them in the war.
Now, the Melians are kinsman of the Spartans, but they are a neutral state. The Athenians, however,
cannot accept the Melian s neutrality and offer them a kind ultimatum: pay tribute to state of Athens or
be destroyed. Later, the Athenians congregate with Melian representatives in order to reason with
them so they can accept their ultimatum. The Melians try to convince the Athenians one ... Show more

The Athenians also believe the Melians should carefully choose their fate and consider all the
possibilities rather than deliberately involving themselves in a war that they cannot fight. Yet the
Melians still believe that there is hope, and that the outcome of a war is not predictable nor
guaranteed. They also explain to the Athenians that if they attack their country, many awful
repercussions would ensue. As the Melians go on to list these repercussions, the Athenians oppose
each of their premises with their own reasoning. Ultimately, the Melian representatives conclude that
they would not surrender to the Athenians. Moreover, the Melian decision meant that they would
indeed go to war with the Athenians. As expected, the Melians were outnumbered and overpowered,
which forced them to do nothing but surrender to Athenians. Unfortunately, the Athenians put to death

The Effects Of Adhd On The Life Of An Individual
Using your textbook and the article above, construct 2 8 sentence paragraphs summarizing what you
read.
In the article entitled, The effects of ADHD on the life of an individual, their family, and community
from preschool to adult life , provided by the Archives of Disease in Childhood, talks about the
individual stages of a person suffering from ADHD. The stages beginning from childhood and
continue on to adolescence and lastly adult life. Every stage is very different from the next. As
children in preschool, in this age group there is often unusually poor intensity of play and excessive
motor restlessness. So they lack being playful but they excessively talk maybe interrupting the teacher
or someone that is an authority figure. Their behavior opposes those of societal norms like breaking
the rules in a classroom. Their social skills lack as they keep to themselves so not much interaction
with others. It is important that when teachers notice a difference in the student s behavior to
immediately inform the parents that way parents can be more so involved with the child. Parents
might encounter huge amounts of stress even strain on their marriage when finding out about their
child, but with the help of teachers and outside sources parents will be better able to meet the demands
of the child. In the first years of schooling children with normal learning abilities will surpass those
with ADHD, but if the teacher is actively involved with those students with ADHD (338) they

U.s. R And D Industrial Policy
U.S. R D Industrial Policy While the United States touts free market policies as main guiding
principles, U.S. policy makers have actively used research and development (R D) industrial policies
to maintain and grow the U.S. economy. There are two types of R D, also known as research and
experimentation (R E), funding models; one is direct federal research dollars given to industry,
typically for basic research, and the other in the use of tax credits for R D activities. Tax credit policies
began in 1981 as part of the Economic Recovery Tax Act (Talley, 2011). The U.S. has long funded R
D, however this funding has steadily decreased with the total in 1976 of just over 1.2% of GDP with
dropping below .8% of GDP in 2014 (AAAS, 2014a). As of 2013, South Korea, Finland, Japan,
Taiwan, and Germany all outspend the U.S. on direct R D funding relative to GDP (AAAS, 2014b).
The IMF and OECD indicate that R D tax credits are a main growth strategy for the G 20 nations
(IMF, 2014). This research topics explores how the United States domestic industrial policies
supporting research and development influence business and entrepreneurial behaviors within the
U.S., which industries has this benefited the most, overall societal impacts of advancements in
technology and automation, and finally how this supports comparative advantage for the United States
as well as implications for developing nations. The U.S. Congress has funded the R D tax credit on a

Adopting clouds in a typical manufacturing enterprise can save the cost in a multiple way, for example
the elimination of some of the functions that were essential in traditional IT (Xu, 2012). Owing to the
decreasing cost, cloud computing lowers IT barriers to innovation, and also makes enterprises easily
scale their services according to client demand, which is increasingly reliant on accurate information.
Xu (2012) believed that cloud computing may play a critical role in the realization the philosophy of

Groundbreaking Piece in the New York Magazine of 1915...
In February 1915, the New York magazine, The Smart Set: A Magazine of Cleverness, featured a piece
called, The Flapper. This was the first time a magazine had ever shown the rebellious young girl who
wore short dresses and skirts in the 1920 s. The magazine described the flapper as A charming
creature! (The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) and continued to boast the reputation of the
flapper by portraying her as educated and mysterious. The magazine Vanity Fair soon followed in
September of 1921, but this magazine demolished the reputation of the flapper girl. Why aren t they at
home? (Panzini The Flapper a New Type: September 1921) the magazine and the majority of people
asked. The article then described how the image of the flapper girl is distinguishing a mother from her
daughter by the way they acted and dressed.
The image of a flapper girl was not just in the United States, for Germany and France had the flapper
girl as an icon. The term for flapper girl in Germany is, der Backfish, and in French it is l Ingénue.
(The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) Before the flapper girl, there was the era of Victorian
fashion, the role of women before World War One, and the role of women during World War One. Post
World War One, the focus on the image of women in society skyrocketed through every day flapper
girls and through publicized flapper girls such as famous actresses Clara Bow and Louise Brooks. In
the 1920 s, opportunities expanded dramatically for women,

The Extinction Of The Wolf Populations
In the past several years news organizations have reported that the wolf populations have been
dwindling and researchers are attempting to bring the wolf populations back to what they should be.
The population on Royal Isle has been struggling to survive. Many populations are suffering on the
island and researchers are struggling to make the population hit a point where they are able to survive
without overpopulating or under populating. The wolf population in upper Michigan has now hit a
high where people are starting to hunt them to protect wildlife. It used to be a very small population
but now it is thriving which will cause adverse consequences. This is also a struggle in Yellowstone
National Park. People have a lot of different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animals who ate off of the scrapes from wolf kills now have to go to other places to find protein
and food (Kluger). Once the scientists thought that the population was getting to low the new pack
was introduced. Once the new pack was introduced the other animal populations got more under
control. The coyotes were brought back down to a manageable size which helped the other
populations come back to normal range. This is a good sign because now the environment can go back
to the way it should be and be lush again. Now that the wolf population is back to where it should be,
other concerns have come into the topic. The grey wolf is a protected species that cannot be hunted in
any way. This is causing problems with the locals. Many farmers feel that they need to protect their
livestock by whatever means necessary. With the wolves being protected they cannot shot them like
they would back in the older times. The wolf population that was introduced back in 1995 is from
Canada though. They are also considered an experimental group because they are being observed.
This causes concern to the civilians living near the wolves. The wolves in the experimental group can
be shot or killed to protect livestock but the protected group cannot. If the protected group is killed
there would be consequences. This leaves a question every time a wolf is shot as to whether or not the
wolf is

Abstract: Association rule mining can be used to extract patterns of a website visitors behaviour. This
data can be used to improve web marketing (e business) techniques or to improve the web surfing
experience. Here we are applying association rule on web usage log file of an institution. We are using
association rule as interesting measures and verifying their values in two different period of time. We
will see how this comparison brings extra important information about association rules generation
and helps a webmaster make more and more accurate decisions about the website development and
enhancements. Here our main aim is to remove user unwanted uninterested rules and to replace them
with new and most favourable patterns or we can say by association rules. In this paper we are
describing association rules mining approach.

The Intellectual Inequality In H. G. Wells The Time Machine
In H.G. Wells novel The Time Machine, the unnamed protagonist, whom the narrator simply refers to
as the Time Traveller , states, It is a law of nature we overlook, that intellectual versatility is the

race of tranquil people, the Eloi (pp. 19, 24). He describes one of the first Eloi men that he meets once

tunic, girdled at the waist with a leather belt. Sandals or buskins I could not clearly distinguish which

Napoleon s Letters From An Italian Nobleman s Family
Acquiring insight into the personalities and feelings of any historical figure is a tricky thing. Often we
are left with secondary, and sometimes very biased, accounts of how individuals conducted
themselves in various situations in their lives. But luckily, we are sometimes left with vivid sources
penned by figures themselves, and that is what we have with Napoleon s letters. Through them we can
hope to gain a better and more well rounded look into the life one of the most loved, and reviled, men
in recent history.
To begin, let us take a look at Napoleon s letters to his immediate family. Letter 71 is addressed to his
sister Pauline, who in 1803 had married into an Italian nobleman s family. In this letter, Napoleon
expresses his love for his sister, and wishes her nothing but happiness, showing a tender and brotherly
side not often associated with the conquering emperor. But this letter is also no simple social call, but
a request that his sister make herself known and appreciated as a socialite in the city of Rome, seat of
the Papal States. This is a shrewd and clever move on his part, displaying an understanding of the
delicacies of statesmanship and foreign opinion.
In letter 109, a brief note penned in 1806 to his sister Elisa, Napoleon urges her to only allow dresses
of silk and batiste to be worn at the court of her husband in Italy. He insists that preference may be
given to the products of French industry , and is fully confident that such fashion will become

Conflict In Lord Of The Flies Essay
War is the state of conflict and competition between opposing forces. Nonetheless, war can be caused
through emotional and psychological issues through two sides that obtain power from the support of
influential followers. William Golding exhibits this perception in the novel, Lord of the Flies as a
plane carrying a group of British schoolboys is shot down over the Pacific during a combat warfare in
Europe. In the midst of consternation and chaos, Ralph, one of the many young boys on the plane, is
able to distinguish the fear among the boys and use them as a barrier to survival. Ralph s leadership is
visible from the beginning as he is elected leader of the boys, on the other hand, Jack is cheated out of
becoming the leader as he resembles a militaristic attitude who is greedy to make rules and discipline
anyone for breaking his rules. A component of the novel consists of Ralph and Jack struggling to
invest in each others distinct power leading to the boys descending into savagery and the loss of
civilization during the events of the atomic war. Through the background of the atomic war, Golding

One source of great mortality and morbidity in Europe and North America is the cardiovascular
disease, Atherosclerosis. It is recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease of the intermediate and

35% death in the UK each year. Mortality rate are generally higher in men than pre menopausal

Comparing Cinema And Psychoanalysis
Both Cinema and Psychoanalysis were born at the end of the 19th century. They share a common
historical background shaped by the changes that modernity imposed over the Western societies.
Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why psychoanalysis influenced cinema so much. At the time the
brothers Lumière were screening the first results of the cinematograph , Freud and Joseph Breuer had
recently published their studies on Hysteria (The Guardian, 2001). In this essay I will analyse how my

done around mental illness tried to discover what changes of the brain would lead to insanity. Many
diseases did not show any physical mental damage but it was assumed that the techniques were not yet
sufficient. The psychological causes were ignored. Freud changed this perspective forever (Silverman,
1985).
Freud was reluctant to the fusion of psychoanalysis and film. He rejected several offers from major
studios to write scripts and he disliked being filmed or photograph (The Guardian, 2001). This did not
stop his theories from leaving a mark in film. His explanation of the human mind presented cinema

Analysis Of Money In The Great Gatsby
Happiness of Money
(Literary analysis on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald) Gold diggers are commonly known as
women that only go after a guy because of the money that he has. The said women doesn t even need
to love the man just to have the money is enough to keep her around on him. Often times there is a
man that really does like this lady, but because he doesn t have money he never gets with her. What if
this man without the money decide he would do anything to get money to impress the girl. The Great
Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald tells a story of a man name Gatsby that left his love of his life to go and
serve in the military only to return back home and find out she married a rich man and had a kid. In an

An online article by Teachout states, such stories embody the rags to riches vision of worldly success
that has come to be known as the American Dream . American dream is what many stand for. The true
way he got the money was through drug dealing and the bad side of things, the money was not earn
honestly. Clearly, the American dream to become someone from very little is in play in this message.
Another message for The Great Gatsby is challenging the idea of money makes you happy. Having a
lot of money means you can buy anything such as , big house, new vehicles, etc. Anything new that
comes out can easily be bought. Gatsby reached this point and this is why he spends lots of money on
parties because he had so much money it doesn t matter. But is Gatsby really happy? In the novel it
says, Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay (Page78). Even with all his
money Gatsby was still not happy because he didn t have what he really wants which was Daisy. The
reason he even got all this money was in hopes to get Daisy to see all his money and make her come
back to him. This didn t go as planned because Daisy husband Tom would not let her go anywhere
without him. So Gatsby was left alone with all that money but no love. In this novel money doesn t
equal happiness, but love was truly the point of happiness. In another online article it says, None of
these are bad but certainly distracting at

Is Jay Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald´s The Great Gatsby, a...
To decide whether Jay Gatsby is a good man or not, one must define what a good man really is.
Although it is an extremely vague and layered term, a good man best fits the description of a man
whose intentions are never meant to harm anyone. In addition, readers must remember that the Gatsby
in the novel is Nick Carraway s version, and that is a very biased version. Yet, based off of the events
depicted in The Great Gatsby, I believe that Jay Gatsby is a good man. Gatsby is not formally
introduced until chapter three, and due to his initial description, readers hold him in much higher
regard than other characters in the novel. Nick introduces Gatsby in an extremely intriguing and
flattering manner, saying, He smiled understandingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of how one would go about arguing how Jay Gatsby is not a good man , he is undeniably
an embodiment of the American dream. Born James Gatz to two poor farmers in the Midwest, Gatsby
s imaginations had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The truth was that Jay Gatsby ...
sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God ... to this conception he was
faithful to the end (98). The notion of the self made man alone is something that is honored within
American society, and therefore, Jay Gatsby is an honorable person. Parallel to Benjamin Franklin,
Gatsby envisioned the perfect man and left home with nothing in order to become that idealistic
version of himself. Gatsby s similarity to Benjamin Franklin is highlighted by Mr. Gatz with Gatsby s
childhood schedule seemingly based off of The Way to Wealth. Yet, being an honorable person alone
does not make Gatsby a good man . What does make Gatsby a good man though, is his outstanding
selflessness. Despite the immense wealth he gains, Jay Gatsby is always trying to do things for others,
such as asking Nick on his boat, or giving a random party goer an entirely new dress after ruining their
original dress at one of Gatsby s parties. Even in the case of Gatsby doing Nick favors, Gatsby does
not expect anything in return from Nick, but he does hope for a reconnection with Daisy. Part of what
really makes Gatsby a good

The Importance Of Wearing Retainers After Treatment
The Importance of Wearing Retainers after Treatment
After all the effort and orthodontic appointments, the time has finally come when your child s braces
are coming off. Congratulations! Braces were the initial, and vital, first half of the treatment to ensure
that your child has a lifetime of healthy, well positioned, and straight teeth. Now starts the second half
of the treatment that will keep those beautiful teeth in their current condition for the rest of your child
s life; the retainer.
Here are some of the typical questions and answers that our patients from Covington, Mandeville,
Metairie, Uptown, Franklinton, Ocean Springs, Harvey, and Pascagoula often want to know about
retainers.

This is a removable apparatus and, depending on your preference, you can choose from a variety of
colors.
The Essix Retainer:
This type of retainer is clear and it fits over all of your teeth. Your individual retainer is formed from
an impression of your teeth and it does not contain any wires or other metals. It is comfortable to wear
and fits snugly around your teeth.
The Bonded Retainer:
This type of retainer involves cementing, or bonding, wires to the inside surface of your lower front
and canine teeth. Because this style of a retainer is permanently fixed to your teeth, you need to take
extra care when cleaning the wires.
Do I have to wear the retainer all the time?
If you have removable retainers, your orthodontist will instruct you on the amount of time that you ll
need to wear them. Generally, retainers are initially worn all the time, except for when you clean them
or when you are eating. Your orthodontist will provide you with a personalized schedule for when you
can alter the time required for wearing the retainer.
Are there any risks if I stop wearing the retainer?
If you do not follow the timetable your orthodontist prescribed, or if you completely stop wearing the
retainer, you are taking the risk that your perfectly aligned teeth will start to shift back to their former
condition. This is not something that you will want. Your orthodontist will evaluate your progress
during your routine appointments

Homosexual Police Officers
Abstract
Media coverage surrounding alternative sexualities has also expanded in recent years and, in the wake
of gay liberation and the emergence of lesbian and gay studies, an ever increasing flow of academic
documentation pertaining to sexual orientation has flourished. We now know more about homosexual
lives in general and about the experiences of particular groups such as those in prison those who offer
sex in exchange for money and those who lived during particular historical periods. However, with the
knowledge and awareness about what it means to be gay or lesbian has increased considerably, there
remains an ignorance on a number of homosexual issues. Explanations of why sexual orientations

The presence of women and gay men on the police force challenges the traditional heterosexually
masculine definition of the occupation. Recognizing the need for gay and lesbian police officers and
other criminal justice professionals to have an arena to discuss needs and concerns in an atmosphere
free of job related reprisals, the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) was established in 1981. GOAL
continues to provide a safe environment for people who have been, and continue to be, victims of
harassment and discrimination in the workplace, while at the same time attempting to change
homophobic attitudes in the workplace and in the community at large (Dahir, 1999). Other
organizations such as Law Enforcement Gays and Lesbians (LEGAL) also offer support for gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender workers in the criminal justice system. According to Dahir (1999),
The Gay Police Association (GPA) was formed in 1990 by a handful of officers in the Metropolitan
Police. Since then it has grown into a formally recognized and respected staff association with
members in all 52 UK police forces. The GPA is the only national organization that specifically
represents the needs and interests of gay police staff in the United Kingdom (para.1). Membership is
open to all Gay, Lesbian, Bi sexual, Transgender and Transsexual Police Officers and Police Staff.

The Medieval Church
One of the issues of the Medieval church was that they were worried that their pastorate were not
sufficiently concentrating on otherworldly matters and were concentrating a lot on material riches.
This was created generally as a result of a development of riches inside of the religious communities
and inside of the individual coffers of the church. With this came a rot of general ethical quality,
displayed by the ascent of indecencies, for example, insatiability, lack of restraint, and savagery. The
Church looked to defeat these indecencies essentially by expulsion and execution. The Reformation of

Getting Ready To Move
Winter is the time of year where the number of people who are moving house slows down. Not only
are there the holidays ahead to be focused on, but the possibility of encountering bad weather during
the shift seems to deter those who are relocating voluntarily. Money Nation estimates you can save up
to 30% on your moving costs when you relocate during the off peak seasons because companies will
be vying for your business. However, choosing to move during the winter months means you must be
prepared for possible issues that lie ahead. There are three stages of your winter move you should
consider now while you are packing, so you are not dealing with raised stress levels once the
relocation is under way.
Getting Ready To Move
Packing is never much fun, but it s even less exciting when it is freezing outside, and all you want to

delayed due to weather, the liquid within the jars could freeze, and the jars could explode from the
pressure. This makes for an ugly clean up job when it is time to unpack at the other end.
Make sure your home is ready for the movers on moving day. The path between your home and the
truck needs to be snow and ice free. Have it shoveled and salted before the movers arrive so they are
not slipping and sliding while moving your valued belongings.
Once the truck is loaded, you need to be prepared for what could happen during the move

Social Attachment Theory
Abstract Despite its roots in evolutionary theory, attachment theory has long split itself into two
factions: adaptive and maladaptive. For years, insecure attachment has been implicated as one of the
root causes for a number of psychological concerns. (Dozier, Stovall McClough, Albus, 2008) Tsachi
Ein Dor, however, theorized something different. His social defense theory posits an entirely new
interpretation of attachment that all attachment orientations have adaptive qualities for the
environment in which they exist and that society at large benefits when groups are made up of a
variety of attachment orientations. This paper seeks to better understand the schemas proposed by

Simpson and Belsky (2008) suggested that, in fact, Charles Darwin was the first attachment theorist.
His concept of evolutionary theory the idea that human social behaviors are a reflection of selection
pressures is viewed as one of the greatest intellectual accomplishments in the history of science. (p.
133) This theory offered up the proposition that behaviors persist solely because they are
advantageous to a species survival. If you understand humans to be primarily social creatures, then
under this theory you would have assume that social connection was a behavior honed over time by
evolution because it was advantageous to survival. Bringing this idea into the world of
psychoanalysis, the object relations school of thought utilizes evolutionary theory to understand
humans as biologically wired for connection. This connection (or attachment, as Bowlby termed it)
shapes our personality structure and style. (6.5) To Bowlby, attachment is part of a pre programmed
behavioral set aimed at keeping an infant in close proximity to his/her main caregiver (typically a
mother figure). (3.4) In his first volume on attachment (year), Bowlby proposed that attachment is
consistent over time and that an infant will grow to relate to others in the same way he/she related to
his/her original attachment figure. This concept is often referred to in the attachment literature as the
child s working model. (3.2) While it is believed that this attachment relationship

Moreover, it has been noticed that Zoecon s strengths are noticeable in the market too. Since the

Canada Goose Case Analysis Essay
Current situation
Canada Goose has experienced steady organic growth as a niche brand, selling their product through
independently owned stores. By June 2008 it was selling product in 28 different countries across
North America and Europe plus two authorized online retailers. Now it has a significant opportunity to
further cement itself as a market leader by placing its product with a national chain. Initially, Canada
Goose considered offers from two national chain retailers. One offer came from a Canadian chain
called Asmuns Place. Another offer came from Levene s Menswear. Table 1 provides a high level
overview and compares these two offers.

Firstly, the Canada Goose brand faces a threat from the increased number of fake products by
counterfeiters. Secondly, there is a rising concern from independent stores that national chain stores
would discount Canada Goose products causing their sales to drop. And thirdly, Lisa Freedman from
Asmuns Place made a last minute offer for exclusive distribution of Canada Goose female and
menswear through their store chain. This offer restricts Canada Goose s flexibility in terms of
choosing a distribution partner, but simplifies the distribution process.
Recommendations
Pursue both initial opportunities with the women s closing product line for Asmuns Place and with the
men s product line for Levene s Menswear. This will result in an increase in the market share in
Canada by 10%. It will provide the ability to bring newer products to market, and not restrict the
distribution of products to a single national chain store. Canada Goose should define the conditions
under which Asmuns Place or any other retail chain will feature its products in store advertisements. It
also needs to assure its original distribution partners that they will be able to maintain their existing
brand prestige and pricing throughout all their stores in Canada.
Canada Goose should expand their distribution of its product to Eastern Europe starting with Russia
since it is a country with severe winter conditions. This will assure Canada Goose growth without the
risk of saturating the

Analysis Of Prufrock s A Good Boy
The District court improperly granted summary judgment as a reasonable jury could find that Prufrock
suffered a tangible detriment when he was denied tutoring and received the worst English grade of his
college career after he rejected Professor Crewel s offer to take care of things for him if he was a good
boy .(Prufrock Dep. 4:5 24, June 1, 2014.)To determine whether plaintiff suffered a tangible
detriment, courts consider whether 1) plaintiff suffered a material loss and 2) the loss resulted from
plaintiff s rejection of advances. See e.g., Johnson v. Galen Health Insts., Inc., 267 F. Supp. 2d 679,
684 (W.D. Ky. 2003).
Courts have defined a material loss as an adverse change to a crucial aspect of the employment or
educational experience. See e.g., Bowman v. Shawnee, 220 F.3d 456, 461 462 (6th Cir. 2000);
Johnson 267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In the educational context, courts have found that a jury could find a
tangible detriment to be a loss of course credit, evaluations, grades and recommendations. Johnson
267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In Johnson the court held that a reasonable jury could find that the plaintiff
suffered a material loss where she failed the course as receiving credit was a crucial aspect of her
education. Id. Similarly, in Petrone v. Cleveland the court noted that recommendations and evaluations
were material components of education. 993 F. Supp. 1119, 1129 (N.D. Ohio 1998).

Reflection On Henry Hudson Trail
This year for service day I traveled to the Henry Hudson Trail, which is part of the Monmouth County
Park system, in order to pick up trash and clean off the trail. This particular location I visited for
service day does not have a specific mission; however this trail offers New Jersey residents the
opportunity to be immersed in nature and enjoy beauty of this state. At this location I expected to see a
lot of trash and dirt that needed to be attended too and cleaned up which was our job. At this trail,
about 10 students and myself walked the trail in the very cold weather picking up trash and cleaning
up all the items that people left behind. Even though the trail did contain some a lot of litter and the
weather was very brutal, the trail was a beautiful location full of lively colors and beautiful trees that
made the trip somewhat enjoyable. Through my volunteering at the Henry Hudson Trail, I now

how much of a burden litter really is not only for nature but also for people whose job it is to clean up
the environment. I have gained a better understanding of nature and litter which will help me in the

  • 2. Roland Barthes s Theory Of Semiotics Through Digital... 1. INTRODUCTION Semiotics is the study of sign systems. It explores how words and other signs convey meaning. In semiotics, a sign is anything that stands in for something other than itself. This lesson focuses primarily on linguistic signs. Roland Barthes is a theorist that is particularly interested in how things mean rather than what things mean. Through Barthes and Saussure s theories, the understanding of semiotics through digital advertising will be represented through an argument of comparing these two unique key thinkers. The comparison between these two theorists share its importance when understanding advertising through visual examples. Once analyzing an example of digital advertising, these separate theories will serve as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to certain mythologies, Barthes main interest was in semiology. He is highly skilled at finding, manipulating and exploiting theories and concepts of how things come to mean before anyone else does so. The basics of semiotics and how it is applied to many forms of imagery and context is applied through Barthes theory. This theory consists of three orders of specification, denotation, connotation and myth (Chandler 2006,18). Within semiotics, denotation and connotation are terms describing the relationship between the signifier and its signified, and an analytic distinction is made between two types of signifiers: denotative signified and a connotative signified (Panofsky 1970a,51 3). This meaning includes both denotation and connotation through the action and reaction of the representation of signs. Denotation is described as the definitional, literal or obvious meaning of a sign according to the art historian Erwin Panofsky (Hasenmueller 1978). The denotation of a representational visual image is what all viewers from any culture and at any time would recognise the image as depicting (Hasenmueller 1978). As Roland Barthes noted, De Saussure created a model of signs that focused on denotation at the expense of connotation and it was left to subsequent theorists to offer an account of this important dimension of meaning (Barthes ... It is important for case managers to contact all agencies and / or programs that are primarily responsible for their clients, meeting their goals which is stated in each individual s service plans (Summers, 2012). By receiving feedback from such person (s) will notify case managers what is the best alternative, if any, for their clients. Case managers should question if their clients moving toward their goal effectively; should the service (s) be continued, discontinued, or modified. It is in the best interest of all case managers to monitor and contact, parent (s), person (s), agencies, and services associate with their client s case to document any and all noticeable changes, no matter how great or small. In this dialogue, consisting of the Athenians and the Melians, the Athenians arrive on the island where the Melians had resided in attempt to conquer it. At this time, the Athenians are at war with the Spartans and see that the island can only benefit them in the war. Now, the Melians are kinsman of the Spartans, but they are a neutral state. The Athenians, however, cannot accept the Melian s neutrality and offer them a kind ultimatum: pay tribute to state of Athens or be destroyed. The Athenians also believe the Melians should carefully choose their fate and consider all the possibilities rather than deliberately involving themselves in a war that they cannot fight. Yet the Melians still believe that there is hope, and that the outcome of a war is not predictable nor guaranteed. They also explain to the Athenians that if they attack their country, many awful repercussions would ensue. As the Melians go on to list these repercussions, the Athenians oppose each of their premises with their own reasoning. Ultimately, the Melian representatives conclude that they would not surrender to the Athenians. Moreover, the Melian decision meant that they would indeed go to war with the Athenians. • 5. The Effects Of Adhd On The Life Of An Individual Using your textbook and the article above, construct 2 8 sentence paragraphs summarizing what you read. In the article entitled, The effects of ADHD on the life of an individual, their family, and community from preschool to adult life , provided by the Archives of Disease in Childhood, talks about the individual stages of a person suffering from ADHD. The stages beginning from childhood and continue on to adolescence and lastly adult life. Every stage is very different from the next. As children in preschool, in this age group there is often unusually poor intensity of play and excessive motor restlessness. So they lack being playful but they excessively talk maybe interrupting the teacher or someone that is an authority figure. Their behavior opposes those of societal norms like breaking the rules in a classroom. Their social skills lack as they keep to themselves so not much interaction with others. It is important that when teachers notice a difference in the student s behavior to immediately inform the parents that way parents can be more so involved with the child. Parents might encounter huge amounts of stress even strain on their marriage when finding out about their child, but with the help of teachers and outside sources parents will be better able to meet the demands of the child. In the first years of schooling children with normal learning abilities will surpass those with ADHD, but if the teacher is actively involved with those students with ADHD (338) they ... • 6. U.s. R And D Industrial Policy U.S. R D Industrial Policy While the United States touts free market policies as main guiding principles, U.S. policy makers have actively used research and development (R D) industrial policies to maintain and grow the U.S. economy. There are two types of R D, also known as research and experimentation (R E), funding models; one is direct federal research dollars given to industry, typically for basic research, and the other in the use of tax credits for R D activities. Tax credit policies began in 1981 as part of the Economic Recovery Tax Act (Talley, 2011). The U.S. has long funded R D, however this funding has steadily decreased with the total in 1976 of just over 1.2% of GDP with dropping below .8% of GDP in 2014 (AAAS, 2014a). As of 2013, South Korea, Finland, Japan, Taiwan, and Germany all outspend the U.S. on direct R D funding relative to GDP (AAAS, 2014b). The IMF and OECD indicate that R D tax credits are a main growth strategy for the G 20 nations (IMF, 2014). This research topics explores how the United States domestic industrial policies supporting research and development influence business and entrepreneurial behaviors within the U.S., which industries has this benefited the most, overall societal impacts of advancements in technology and automation, and finally how this supports comparative advantage for the United States as well as implications for developing nations. The price is quite close to which was proposed by Intel, but in fact, just two months before Intel approved the acquisition, Altera rejected the price that Intel proposed. In the last few years, Intel suffered from the declining sales of personal computers, of which has been the main profitability source, and has been dominated by Intel for a long time, as consumers switch their preference from laptops and personal computers to tablets and other mobile devices (Huddleston, 2015). • 8. Groundbreaking Piece in the New York Magazine of 1915... In February 1915, the New York magazine, The Smart Set: A Magazine of Cleverness, featured a piece called, The Flapper. This was the first time a magazine had ever shown the rebellious young girl who wore short dresses and skirts in the 1920 s. The magazine described the flapper as A charming creature! (The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) and continued to boast the reputation of the flapper by portraying her as educated and mysterious. The magazine Vanity Fair soon followed in September of 1921, but this magazine demolished the reputation of the flapper girl. Why aren t they at home? (Panzini The Flapper a New Type: September 1921) the magazine and the majority of people asked. The article then described how the image of the flapper girl is distinguishing a mother from her daughter by the way they acted and dressed. The image of a flapper girl was not just in the United States, for Germany and France had the flapper girl as an icon. The term for flapper girl in Germany is, der Backfish, and in French it is l Ingénue. (The Smart Set : A Magazine of Cleverness) Before the flapper girl, there was the era of Victorian fashion, the role of women before World War One, and the role of women during World War One. Post World War One, the focus on the image of women in society skyrocketed through every day flapper girls and through publicized flapper girls such as famous actresses Clara Bow and Louise Brooks. The Extinction Of The Wolf Populations In the past several years news organizations have reported that the wolf populations have been dwindling and researchers are attempting to bring the wolf populations back to what they should be. The population on Royal Isle has been struggling to survive. Many populations are suffering on the island and researchers are struggling to make the population hit a point where they are able to survive without overpopulating or under populating. The wolf population in upper Michigan has now hit a high where people are starting to hunt them to protect wildlife. It used to be a very small population but now it is thriving which will cause adverse consequences. This is also a struggle in Yellowstone National Park. People have a lot of different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The animals who ate off of the scrapes from wolf kills now have to go to other places to find protein and food (Kluger). Once the scientists thought that the population was getting to low the new pack was introduced. Once the new pack was introduced the other animal populations got more under control. The coyotes were brought back down to a manageable size which helped the other populations come back to normal range. This is a good sign because now the environment can go back to the way it should be and be lush again. Now that the wolf population is back to where it should be, other concerns have come into the topic. The grey wolf is a protected species that cannot be hunted in any way. This is causing problems with the locals. Many farmers feel that they need to protect their livestock by whatever means necessary. With the wolves being protected they cannot shot them like they would back in the older times. The wolf population that was introduced back in 1995 is from Canada though. They are also considered an experimental group because they are being observed. This causes concern to the civilians living near the wolves. The wolves in the experimental group can be shot or killed to protect livestock but the protected group cannot. If the protected group is killed there would be consequences. This leaves a question every time a wolf is shot as to whether or not the wolf is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Napoleon s Letters From An Italian Nobleman s Family Acquiring insight into the personalities and feelings of any historical figure is a tricky thing. Often we are left with secondary, and sometimes very biased, accounts of how individuals conducted themselves in various situations in their lives. But luckily, we are sometimes left with vivid sources penned by figures themselves, and that is what we have with Napoleon s letters. Through them we can hope to gain a better and more well rounded look into the life one of the most loved, and reviled, men in recent history. To begin, let us take a look at Napoleon s letters to his immediate family. Letter 71 is addressed to his sister Pauline, who in 1803 had married into an Italian nobleman s family. In this letter, Napoleon expresses his love for his sister, and wishes her nothing but happiness, showing a tender and brotherly side not often associated with the conquering emperor. But this letter is also no simple social call, but a request that his sister make herself known and appreciated as a socialite in the city of Rome, seat of the Papal States. This is a shrewd and clever move on his part, displaying an understanding of the delicacies of statesmanship and foreign opinion. In letter 109, a brief note penned in 1806 to his sister Elisa, Napoleon urges her to only allow dresses of silk and batiste to be worn at the court of her husband in Italy. (3.4) In his first volume on attachment (year), Bowlby proposed that attachment is consistent over time and that an infant will grow to relate to others in the same way he/she related to his/her original attachment figure. This concept is often referred to in the attachment literature as the child s working model. (3.2) While it is believed that this attachment relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The corporation has many patents and licenses for many of it s products, putting it away from strong competition by protection itself . Moreover, it has been noticed that Zoecon s strengths are noticeable in the market too. Since the company s sales of chemicals for black flag and roach motel record 100$ million in one year, as well as sales to PCOs reaching $2.5 billion in 1985 , We notice that PCOs represent the major segment for Zoecon , speaking of strengths. The corporation s weaknesses can be identified as follows: It is specialized in the production of the chemicals themselves but have not experience in retail selling. Most of Zoecon s products do not have Zoecon s brand name but are integrated as a base for companies like C. Johnson and sons, Boyle Midway division. We can notice that Zoecon cannot reach the consumers directly without an intermediary. Another weakness is that the insecticides are effective but may be harmful for people and pets , on the other hand, Insect growth regulators are safe , but their effect are not noticeable quickly which can quite a big problem for skeptic consumers . • 30. Canada Goose Case Analysis Essay Current situation Canada Goose has experienced steady organic growth as a niche brand, selling their product through independently owned stores. By June 2008 it was selling product in 28 different countries across North America and Europe plus two authorized online retailers. Now it has a significant opportunity to further cement itself as a market leader by placing its product with a national chain. Initially, Canada Goose considered offers from two national chain retailers. One offer came from a Canadian chain called Asmuns Place. Another offer came from Levene s Menswear. Table 1 provides a high level overview and compares these two offers. Table 1. Brief offer comparisons. |StoreFeature |Est. |locations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the Canada Goose brand faces a threat from the increased number of fake products by counterfeiters. Secondly, there is a rising concern from independent stores that national chain stores would discount Canada Goose products causing their sales to drop. And thirdly, Lisa Freedman from Asmuns Place made a last minute offer for exclusive distribution of Canada Goose female and menswear through their store chain. This offer restricts Canada Goose s flexibility in terms of choosing a distribution partner, but simplifies the distribution process. Recommendations Pursue both initial opportunities with the women s closing product line for Asmuns Place and with the men s product line for Levene s Menswear. This will result in an increase in the market share in Canada by 10%. It will provide the ability to bring newer products to market, and not restrict the distribution of products to a single national chain store. Canada Goose should define the conditions under which Asmuns Place or any other retail chain will feature its products in store advertisements. It also needs to assure its original distribution partners that they will be able to maintain their existing brand prestige and pricing throughout all their stores in Canada. Canada Goose should expand their distribution of its product to Eastern Europe starting with Russia since it is a country with severe winter conditions. This will assure Canada Goose growth without the risk of saturating the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Analysis Of Prufrock s A Good Boy The District court improperly granted summary judgment as a reasonable jury could find that Prufrock suffered a tangible detriment when he was denied tutoring and received the worst English grade of his college career after he rejected Professor Crewel s offer to take care of things for him if he was a good boy .(Prufrock Dep. 4:5 24, June 1, 2014.)To determine whether plaintiff suffered a tangible detriment, courts consider whether 1) plaintiff suffered a material loss and 2) the loss resulted from plaintiff s rejection of advances. See e.g., Johnson v. Galen Health Insts., Inc., 267 F. Supp. 2d 679, 684 (W.D. Ky. 2003). Courts have defined a material loss as an adverse change to a crucial aspect of the employment or educational experience. See e.g., Bowman v. Shawnee, 220 F.3d 456, 461 462 (6th Cir. 2000); Johnson 267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In the educational context, courts have found that a jury could find a tangible detriment to be a loss of course credit, evaluations, grades and recommendations. Johnson 267 F. Supp. 2d at 684. In Johnson the court held that a reasonable jury could find that the plaintiff suffered a material loss where she failed the course as receiving credit was a crucial aspect of her education. Id. Similarly, in Petrone v. Cleveland the court noted that recommendations and evaluations were material components of education. 993 F. Supp. 1119, 1129 (N.D. Ohio 1998). • 33. Reflection On Henry Hudson Trail This year for service day I traveled to the Henry Hudson Trail, which is part of the Monmouth County Park system, in order to pick up trash and clean off the trail. This particular location I visited for service day does not have a specific mission; however this trail offers New Jersey residents the opportunity to be immersed in nature and enjoy beauty of this state. At this location I expected to see a lot of trash and dirt that needed to be attended too and cleaned up which was our job. At this trail, about 10 students and myself walked the trail in the very cold weather picking up trash and cleaning up all the items that people left behind. Even though the trail did contain some a lot of litter and the weather was very brutal, the trail was a beautiful location full of lively colors and beautiful trees that made the trip somewhat enjoyable. Through my volunteering at the Henry Hudson Trail, I now understand better the problem of littering. Before this experience, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whenever I see someone litter from now on I will make sure to stop them and inform them on how someone must clean up their mess and how they are being disrespectful to other humans and the environment. I will probably not continue this service opportunity and do it again because although I love nature, I do not enough trash or germs; however, I will continually spread the message of no littering. Even though I have not acquired a love for cleaning up trails, this service opportunity still has been very worthwhile. Through this location, I learned the importance of a clean environment and how much of a burden litter really is not only for nature but also for people whose job it is to clean up the environment. I have gained a better understanding of nature and litter which will help me in the future to be more aware and help the world be a cleaner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
