Synopsis Of A Book Meridian By Alice Walker Essay
Nataliya Tyshchenko
Professors Aberbach, Decker, Fink
GE Cluster: America in the Sixties
4 November 2016
Time Warp: Meridian In psychology, the primacy effect is defined as the tendency to recall primary
information better than information divulged later on. This observation can be extended to how first
impressions resonate well in the minds of humans. In her historical novel, Meridian, author Alice
Walker reshapes perceptions about who holds power and moral authority and what determines this by
making time out of joint (choosing an interesting narrative structure, with a most important beginning)
and employing symbolism and repetition. Abandoning chronological order forces a reader to
constantly abandon preconceived notion about characters, events, movements, and even themselves.
As a result, the meaning of reality, life, and what is normal is resignified . The effect of narrative
structure is evident when Walker s choice for the beginning of the novel affects the reader s perception
of moral authority and power for the rest of the novel. By opening with multiple, and incredibly
varying, definitions of the word Meridian, Walker establishes her idea that the main character is tough
to pin down. Who she is will not be clear to the audience. This perhaps presages that Meridian s moral
authority and power will not be easily defined or pinned down either and it is useless to try to assign a
secondary meaning ( myth ) to her because it will always shift. Though it is human

In a letter to Yang, Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, said: I am disappointed. [Our offer] remains the

Ballmer wrote: Our discussions led us to conclude that you would take steps to make Yahoo!

an advertising agency, who wants to see a stronger rival to Google, commented: Microsoft showed
self discipline by not bidding higher. Microsoft is a $300bn company with plenty of other ideas. The

Essay on Post-colonial Encounters in the Early 20th Century
Alfred Noyes wrote The Empire Builders at the turn of the twentieth century. Despite the time at
which it was written in, there are various post colonial themes regarding the hierarchy of difference.
The tone of the poem is pessimistic which is understandable since Noyes is writing during the
Naturalist period of English literature. Noyes is speaking to the middle class of England; those who
fulfill their duties as they come (Noyes, 45). He uses the first person plural article to create a
unification between the readers and the narrator. Noyes, in his poem, addresses two postcolonial
themes of Christianity as a vehicle of colonization, and the fallacies of European philosophy. In this
essay, I argue that the themes and structure that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the empire builder has more lines of description, he is situated in a higher category of social
stratification.
Another instrument that allows the empire builder to situate himself in higher categories of hierarchy
is Christianity. Noyes gives Christianity a large amount of agency in the discourse of colonialism.
Christianity was composite in producing Africa as backward. Christianity has two roles: firstly, it is a
method by which the white man created an inferiority complex amongst the natives and secondly it
created a clear distinction between colonizer and native. At the beginning of the poem, he mentions
the superiority of the white man and describes them as the Lord God of battles... (Noyes, 5). By saying
this, he is not only amplifying the inequality between the white man and the native but also
introducing Christianity as a method of creating the divide. On line thirty six, there is a description of
the empire builder as having a shadowy crown of thorn (Noyes, 36). At this point in the poem, Noyes
is slightly empathizing with the empire builder since he has to carry all the burden of the country on
his back. Furthermore, by saying that he has a crown of thorns, Noyes is comparing the status of the
empire builder to that of Jesus Christ, which is establishing the former as the highest authority in
societal hierarchy. Towards the end of the poem, Noyes makes the distinction between heaven and
home. This is

The Undivided Declaration Of Rowland High School
In Rowland High School, October 6, 2014.
The Undivided Declaration of Rowland High School,
When in the course of human events, it becomes imperative to shake off the bands of repeated name
callings and falsely given identities which have been connected for so long, and to assume that the
playing field is once again even, giving your undivided attention and respect to the opinions of the
unheard and abandoned as they state why they have decided to stand up against the bullying and how
they plan to write how to isolate themselves from bullying altogether.
We hold these truths to be axiomatic: that all students, no matter their background, ethnicity, or rank,
are created equal in status and in identity; no student is higher than the other. Each student is equipped
with secure and unalienable Rights; that among these rights are Respect, Rightful Identity, and
Freedom of Speech. We also believe that rules are formed to protect these certain rights and that the
power of these rules comes from the power of the students; whenever any part of the rule fails to
protect these rights, it is the right of the students to change it and to form a new rule that follows such
principles which organizes its powers to end in Security and Happiness. Fair judgment, as a matter of
fact, will ordain to say that long prevailing consequences should not be changed because of trivial,
temporary, or fleeting reasons; and, in fact, history proves that students are more likely to suffer the
bullying,

Toyota, Ford and Gm Essay
1: Corporate Governance Both Ford and GM completely abide by NYSE corporate governance
standards, as they are domestic US companies. Ford and GM are required to strictly follow NYSE
corporate governance standards. Toyota is permitted to follow certain corporate governance practices
complying with Japanese laws and regulations, the NYSE has ruled that Toyota is exempt from certain
NYSE corporate governance requirements. A significant difference in Toyota s corporate governance
structure is that the company currently does not have any directors that can be deemed as independent
directors. Another major difference is that unlike domestic US companies Toyota is not required to

ISS only computes CGQ s for American companies, we can only compare GM and Ford. Fords
Corporate Governance Quotient as of March 2007 is better than 4.5% of S P 500 companies and
52.5% better than industry competitors, while GM s CGQ is better than 98.4% of S P 500 companies
and 100% of industry competitors. Clearly GM s corporate governance structure is rated higher than
Fords. All three of these companies are industry giants. Toyota s market capitalization is 240.32b, GM
s market capitalization is 17.53b, and Ford s market capitalization is 15.01b. The large difference in
market capitalization between the competitors is because of falling share prices in GM and Ford,
while Toyota s share prices have been rising. This can also be attributed to the recent profitability of
Toyota vs. Ford and GM. The difference in share prices also accounts for the large differences in
average daily trading volume which is led by Ford ($7.94/share) whose average volume is 60,244,600

The Role Of Proactive Administration Of Human Asset Issues...
Introduction Mergers and acquisitions are expanding in worldwide as associations attempt to grow
their operations and increment their upper hand. Yet, regardless of hopeful desires, mergers and
acquisitions regularly come up short, to a limited extent since director s disregard human asset issues,
which are occasionally considered until significant issues emerge. This study highlights the
significance of proactive administration of human asset issues, simultaneously with recommendation
for the issues, and offers point by point commonsense guidance to guarantee that the procedure will
succeed. In recent years, human resource managers have been triggered to play a more strategic role in
their organizations, especially in making strategic decisions and going through radical organizational
changes such as merging process. Nowadays this requirement is even more urgent and act due to the
fact that past decade has been characterized by enormous growth in mergers. HR Management should

Flattery In Julius Caesar Research Paper
In William Shakespeare s tragedy, Julius Caesar, flattery plays a very important role and is a tool that
is used several times within the play and appears to work when trying to persuade people more often
than not. The instances where flattery is particularly visible are when Cassius uses flattery with
Brutus, Decius flatters Caesar, and Antony uses flattery with Brutus. The most important example is
when Cassius uses flattery with Brutus. The flattery used upon Brutus is what affects the entire play.
Cassius believes that if Caesar is made leader of Rome, nothing but harm with be done. In order to
stop this from happening, Cassius needs to get Brutus on his side because he would be an important
tool in justifying why Caesar was assassinated;

The Goal Of The Indian Boarding Schools
The Indian boarding schools had many goals; however, the primary goal was to completely obliterate
the culture of indigenous people. This process was done through small goals. The Indians didn t have
many options. The only options that they were given were either to be killed or to assimilate into
white civilization through Indian boarding schools. Richard Pratt, a former military man is a prime
example of implementing Indian boarding schools. Indian children were taking from their home
reservations to attend off reservation boarding schools. The goals of the boarding school were to kill
the Indian, save the man. Indians attending boarding schools were going through an assimilation
process. The long term goal was to leave with a white man s image or with white ways. This was
achieved through Indians being forced to cut their hair, wearing military uniforms, learning English,
new religion (ex: Christianity). Through this process, many children forgot what their birth given
name was. It was not uncommon for children to return back to their reservation with no recollection of
who they are Your name s not Billy. Your name s TAH rruhm, she told him (Bear, Charla). The white
Anglo Saxons goal was to erase anything associated with Indian culture because in their minds they
viewed Indians as savages. The white people in charge of running these boarding schools went to
extreme lengths to achieve erasure. These short term goals were very traumatizing for the children

team players are and what country, school, or club they are a part of, but rugby and football clothing
are slightly different. Throughout time, rugby uniforms have been modified, but they are still the same
in some areas. In the past, jerseys were somewhat similar to polo shirts. On the back, they had a
specific assigned number and their team colors were striped horizontally. Also on a few shirts they
have a rose on them or a nice plant that represents their club team. They still have these old fashioned
uniforms in some club leagues. New and improved uniforms have their solid leading team color with

Essay on Aspects of Social Injustice in The Shawshank...
It is not an exaggeration to say that society is an irreplaceable factor when it comes to developing a
person s potential to its fullest. Indeed, a considerable number of features considered characteristics of
our kind could have only been developed within the boundaries of society and are found nowhere else
in the world of living organisms. However, society may not always be the best platform for the
development of one s individuality. Sometimes people are not treated in a correct manner, which gives
rise to social injustice. Art, in numerous forms, has been reflecting this unpleasant phenomenon for
many centuries. In the movie titled The Shawshank Redemption, by director Frank Darbabont, the
idea of social injustice is illustrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They employ the abilities of the main character to get out of difficult situations with taxes. This means
that while being in prison, Andy Dufresne is forced to use experience to trick the federal tax system.
In other words, a criminal, after being accused of committing a crime, is continuously forced to
commit another crime. While prison is supposed to make people think about the wrong they have
done, the prison in the movie forces a person to walk the path of a criminal much further than one
wants to.
Another aspect in which social injustice is portrayed in the movie is a scene involving one of the
supporting characters: an old prison librarian named Brooks Hatlen. After spending fifty years in the
prison environment, the poor man is finally set free, but he finds it extremely difficult to adapt to a
society that has changed over five decades. In fact, he finds it impossible, so he hangs himself,
suggesting that there is no way for him to adapt to the new world. Once again, this is a vivid example
of the negative impact of prison on individuals. Society accused Brooks of committing a forbidden
action and punished him for it by taking away his freedom. However, in reality, it put him in the
destructive environment that gradually destroyed his personality and did not leave him a chance to
become a better person (Kallen 89). Therefore, society was

The sample range consists of 154 patients. The strength of this study design study represents in the
large number of participants in this study.
This study is addressing the population I am addressing in my project, as it identify the barriers that
might exist in the community towards accessing physical therapy treatment for their pelvic floor
problems.
The strengths of this study are the ability to identify the common barriers for accessing physical
therapy treatments; barriers such like financial constraints (51.4%), perceived lack of utility (37.1%),
time constraints (30.0%), and travel issues (18.6%). On the other hand, 84.4% of participants had 1 or
more comorbid pain condition. Whereas 51.4% expressed some level of anxiety regarding the pelvic
floor physical therapy option, and only 9.6% of participants did not start treatment because of their
fear of the treatment. A weakness point for this study is the generalization issue. While the goal of
most qualitative studies that includes generalization to provide a rich, contextualized understanding of
some aspect of human experience through the intensive study of particular cases. Yet, in an
environment where evidence for improving practice is held in high esteem, generalization in relation
to knowledge claims merits careful attention by both qualitative and quantitative

Learning English Language Analysis
At the beginning of the year I didn t feel as confident, I felt scared and different about writing; but I
didn t feel the same way as I feel now about writing in english. The reason I didn t feel as confident at
the beginning of the year is because I was an ESOL student. During the two years of me being an
ESOL student my english grew from level 1 to level 6, meaning that I no longer need any help in
understanding English. After many tries, I finally reached my goal in writing I wanted to be at; as a
student in 8th grade. I had many weakness that I tried my best to become better at, such as, proper
word usage, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. But not only I felt uncomfortable with my
writing, I also felt uncomfortable in speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I practiced different ways of writing and strengthened my weakness; such as, grammar, and sentence
structure. I learned from my mistakes and know many sentence structures that will help me write the
correct way, with less comma splices and more sentences like compound complex. Now I know how
to write long, and complicated assignments, I m ready to continue learning more in high school. After
being an ESOL student for 2 years, I feel finally confident in writing and be in the range with other
students. Being an ESOL student can be difficult too, you have to learn new things from the beginning
as if you are going to first grade, starting with the ABC and learning to read, while the other students
you are with know all of this. His makes you feel uncomfortable and unconfident near them. And only
once you learn all the things they know, you feel confident just as much they do. After 3 years in the
USA I now know that I m ready for high school, and ready to share what I know. I know things that I
would never had thought I will know as good as now, like, english. The only way to learn something
new, the correct way, such as a new language, is to be at that place, to hear how people talk, have
conversation, and how they use words. Now that I ve understood that, I clearly know that if I stayed in
Israel I wouldn t know how to write essays and many assignments that have been given to me. But I m
also glad that I know the people I met in those years, many of which had helped me and gave

Helicobacter pylori and Gastric cancer
Helicobacter pylori is a small, microaerophilic gram negative rods that regularly colonize the human
stomach (Strausbaugh et al., 2002). It is one of the common bacterial pathogen that is found in the
stomach of almost half of the world s population (Zhao et al., 2014) and such well adaptation or
successful long lasting colonization of H. pylori in to the human stomach is achieved by the
combination of different factors, which addresses different challenges presented by harsh environment

Due to the well adaptation of Helicobacter pylori in human stomach and its pathogenicity, it is
primarily known as causative agent of variety of gastric disease such as gastritis, gastro duodenal ulcer
and gastric cancer (Backert et al., 2004). The association between H.pylori and gastric cancer has
attracted the attention of all people around the world because in 1994 an International Agency for
Research on Cancer (IARC) which is also a subordinate organization of WHO identified H.pylori as
group 1 (definite carcinogen). According to (Asaka et al., 2001) the relationship between H.pylori
with stomach cancer can be explained by two possible mechanism. The first mechanism is based on
carcinogenesis promoting effect of pathogen itself and second is the development of carcinogenesis
environment due to long term infection with such pathogen. The second mechanism determined that
though the H.pylori do not promote the carcinogenesis effect by itself, the long term infection caused
by such pathogen can causes the gastric mucosa inflammation that leads to mucosal atrophy resulting
to intestinal metaplasia which are considered as precursor of gastric cancer.
Gastric cancer is one of the second most common cancers all over the world with high morbidity and

Properties of a service oriented architecture:
Self contained web service: The client should contain no services itself and no additional software.
The use of a programming language that can access a server should be enough.
Self describing web service: The data being handled should be self describing. No additional software
should be used to decode data being handled. The client only retrieves from the server.
Follow strict standards: XML and HTTP being the most common basis for web services.
Programmatic access to data: SOA provides data at the most simple level. No GUI should be

It is never asked for on the streets by its clinical name, diamorphine. There is a common street phrase
used about and by those whose lives are wrapped up in heroin addiction which is: chasing the dragon .
Seems like such a curious phrase but once translated with knowledge, it makes sense. Heroin gives the
user an incredible rush of happiness and well being that cannot be experienced in normal life. But,
usually after two hours the high is over. Sometimes, one time using heroin is all it takes to create an
addict who cannot bear to live without ever feeling the rush again. With other people, it may take 3 or
4 times using to become an addict depending on the amount taken. Chasing the dragon is looking for
that high. And, when not high, the user feels physically and psychologically so horrible that he must
have it whether by injecting, inhaled or smoked to alleviate his discomfort. A logical question is Why
would one even begin to take heroin? They have to be crazy!

bite or claw marks which make the dog look tainted in the eyes of some, rather an animal that s being
used against its will. Dogs for fighting may be born, bought, or even stolen for the sole use of fighting
another dog. Though different breeds are used in dog fighting, the most common breed associated is
the American Pit Bull Terrier. (Destreza 281) The dogs used for fighting get very little compassion in
their lives, living alone with only one thing being taught to them, to fight all other animals that they
see. If a dog tries to escape from a dog fight instead of fighting, the owner normally will end up
disposing of the animal. When a dog is not successful in a fight,

Is Sustainability A Path For Profitability And Competitive...
Ibrahim Alojeel
Is Sustainability a path to Profitability and Competitive Advantage for Small Business in America?
If we each take responsibility in shifting our own behavior, we can trigger the type of change that is
necessary to achieve sustainability for our race or this planet. We change our planet, our environment,
our humanity every day, every year, every decade, and every millennia .
Yehuda Berg
I. Introduction
In this era of sustainable development, companies have realized the importance of adopting a
corporate social responsibility and contributing their part in the development of environmental
sustainability in the community that they are a part of. However, what is interesting to note is that
many companies have found the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
by going green and adopting sustainable practices as an attractive opportunity for them to reduce their
costs and increase their profits. For example, a New York based mass producer of furniture, Human
scale, cut back its carbon footprint only to find out that it also helped the company to reduce its
electrical, packaging and shipping costs. Similarly, companies like New Belgium and Aspin Skiing
Co. have also found that environmental conscience wasn t divorced from critical business need ,
meaning following their corporate responsibility can actually benefit them in terms of increased
revenues (Kramer, 2013). However, the situation is not the same for small businesses in America.
Small Businesses and Sustainability:
Small businesses or SMEs can be defined as those types of businesses where the total number of
employees is less than five hundred and such businesses have much fewer resources than large
companies (Russell Young, 2013). These businesses are a source of growth for the U.S. economy as
they bring innovation and new opportunities for jobs in the market. These businesses represent
approximately 99 percent of the US employer firms and contribute greatly towards the creation of new
private sector jobs. Thus if these companies agree to adopt sustainable strategies, this will not only
benefit them but also the entire American economy (Russell Young, 2013). This makes the

Disadvantages Faced By Aboriginal People
Introduction:
Smoking rates have halved in Australians over the past 30 years, falling below 16%. Except for in
Indigenous populations, smoking rates have remained at more than twice this level, with even higher
rates reported in remote communities (RACGP, 2013) The inequality that has been faced by
Indigenous people is still at an unacceptable level, and has been identified as a human rights concern
by the United Nations (Dick, 2007). Smoking is a major issue because, it is the most preventable
contributor to the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non Indigenous peoples (Ivers,
2011). Smoking contributes to 17% of the life expectancy gap (Australian Government: Department
for Health and Welfare, 2011). The socio economic disadvantage faced by Indigenous people leads to
the addiction of tobacco, which can be caused by many factors including; their position on the social
gradient, education, social exclusion, their employment status and their social support. There is a lack
of developed personal skills on the health risks of tobacco, some Aboriginals don t identify smoking as
a health issue (Korff, 2014), due to the history of Aboriginal people around smoking. As well as first
hand smoke, passive smoking also contributes to poor health, especially for children. Smoking is the
major cause for heart disease, stroke, some cancers, lung diseases and a variety of other conditions
(HealthInfoNet.ecu.edu.au, 2013). If we could reduce tobacco consumption levels

An anthology of gay male fantasy erotica. For the Like a Spell anthology, we asked writers to
challenge the traditional tropes and send us something new original stories of magic users, interesting
twists on the typical sorcerers and mages. The response was overwhelming and exciting, and we
decided to publish four separate anthologies, using the theme of classical elements (earth, air, fire, and
water) as the focus for each collection. For the fire anthology, we ve focused on stories portraying the
love between men. Fire equals passion and heat, the all encompassing flames of male desire. Think of
the fire gods Ra and Vulcan, Agni and Xiuhtecuhtli, embodying strength, ferocity, and power. In

Global commerce trade is primarly dependent on trans ocean shipping; roughly 90% of general cargo

Furthermore, the sum of the two lanes, Asia North America and Intra Asia, would account for roughly
41% of the overall shipping trade. Therefore, Meli Marine will benefit from the entering in the Asia

the future: Meli Marine has perceived an increased demand by its customers for shippings in the Asia
North America lane. The expectation shows that Meli Marine could meet a drop in the growth of its
lane in respect to the previous years while Asia North America lane growth is expected to increase.
Therefore, it is important taking in consideration a diversification. Meli Marine has built a strong

its business model could even succeed in other lanes. Teeh Sah

Adam And Eve In Homer s Odyssey
Adam and Eve, these names are synonymous with how human nature conquers logical thinking. Eve
was enticed by the apple, she became selfish and was ingenuous of the consequences. Today, many are
overtook by temptation, apathetic of the possible consequences. This morality confliction even
appears in literature, such as the Odyssey. In the Odyssey by Homer, when hunger for pride interferes
with heroism, the characters susceptibility to temptation heightens. Odysseus portrays cockiness
which ignites his witty actions if he is faced with obstacles. These actions are seen throughout the
story, especially when he has an audience. Odysseus has the need to sustain a perfect image, one
where he deludes others into believing he is godly. His hubris ... Show more content on

Its as if his will to keep his dignity overrules his actions, that he cannot accept being looked down
upon. His need to control everything at all times shows how manipulative he can be. This
manipulation is showed in another section of the Odyssey, where Odysseus causes his crew to believe
that there is a way out without death. Odysseus states, Should know what the goddess Circe foretold.
Better we should all know, live or die. We may still beat death and get out of this alive. ( Book12XII,
162 164) Circe had foreshadowed many losses if they chose to continue this journey, yet Odysseus
made the decision to continue on. ( some may argue idk how to start this ) This could be seen as a
heroic action displaying bravery and courage yet this action only magnifies Odysseus other side. This
other side instead portrays him as a person who easily falls into their desires and temptation. This
transpires because of his hunger for kleos which falls under the category of pride. Kleos overtakes him
causing him to do irrational actions and being selfish, kleos interfered in this situation by making him
more willing to sacrifice his men, knowing there is no way out. To head

Bubonic Plague
http://ponderosa pine.uoregon.edu/students/Janis/menu.html
Abstract
Bubonic plague has had a major impact on the history of the world. Caused by the bacterium, Yersinia
pestis, and transmitted by fleas often found on rats, bubonic plague has killed over 50 million people
over the centuries. Burrowing rodent populations across the world keep the disease present in the
world today. Outbreaks, though often small, still occur in many places. The use of antibiotics and
increased scientific knowledge first gained in the 1890s have reduced the destruction of plague
outbreaks. In Medieval times, with the unknowing help of humans, bubonic plague exploded into a
pandemic. Known as the ³Black Death², it decimated Europe in 1350, killing 1/3 of the ... Show more

Fourteenth century physicians didn t know what caused the plague, but they knew it was contagious.
As a result they wore an early kind of bioprotective suit which included a large beaked head piece.
The beak of the head piece, which made them look like large birds, was filled with vinegar, sweet oils
and other strong smelling compounds to counteract the stench of the dead and dying plague victims.
Bubonic plague has a vaccine. It lasts for about 6 months. Currently, plague vaccine is not available in
the United States. A new vaccine is being worked on and could be licensed later this year. Travelers to
plague infested areas should take prophylaxic antibiotics. The preferred antibiotic for prophylaxis is
tetracycline or doxycycline, and for children 8 or less, sulfonamides. Bubonic plague is easily treated
if caught early. Streptomycin is the preferred drug, but gentamicin, teracyclines, and chloramphenicol
also are effective. Penicillin is useless on plague. Treatment shortly after exposure can reduce overall
plague mortality from 60% 100% to 10% 15%. The most effective way to prevent plague is better
sanitary conditions and precautions. These conditions and precautions include:
rat populations should be controlled using rodenticide
effective insecticides should be used to control the flea population that transmits plague to humans and
rodents
ships should be fumigated with hydrocyanic gas before arriving in port
conditions around human dwellings should be made

Early Childhood Environments
Early childhood environments should set out to provide children with the freedom to express and
respond freely. The more children are given opportunities to recreate things they see in their everyday
lives, the more they can create their own meaning and understanding of the world around them. Hyun
(1998) believes that educators should teach and learn in environments which require in depth
reflection on their own lives and values. I feel this can connect with the way an educator values art
with in the learning environment. By having your own personal understanding, values and connection
with art and its impact on your own life, can help in allowing the flow of artistic creativity in your
teaching practices. If you are open to the world of art in the form of experiences, discussion and
critiquing, then you can pass this enthusiasm towards art onto your learners. Teaching pedagogies

adult artwork. Engaging children with the world of art by taking them into galleries to see different
works of art can, as mentioned by Terreni (2001, p. 2), produce a wealth of new ideas and can be the
stimulus for new and exciting work. As we feel an array of emotions, thoughts and ideas when we
leave a breath taking new exposure to new art experiences. Such as feelings of stimulus, inspiration,

Benefits Of Secondary School Teacher
Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, Nelson Mandela. Secondary
school teachers can essentially make or break the next generation of America. What students are
taught in school can heavily affect how their future turns out to be. Secondary school teachers are
some of the people that are heavily credited for many famous celebrities or athletes successes for the
education they gave them. NBC News anchor Brian Williams is an example of someone who has
given his secondary school teachers some form of acknowledgement for his success. Secondary
school teachers are an important part of a person s life in their spiritual, mental, and moral growth in
life, and are some of the people who help shape young mind s to do whatever they put their minds to.
A skilled worker, regardless of the job description, remains a treasure, Madeleine M. Kunin. Over one
million secondary school teachers currently hold jobs in the United States. Secondary school teachers
typically teach students in grades ranging from seventh to high school senior, primarily in English,
arithmetic, and science fields ( Secondary School Teachers 490), and each day they teach three to six
classes of varying sizes. Secondary school teachers have a lot more benefits to their job than what it
appears to be. A good majority of them are spiritual or mental benefits, but some benefits are physical
or monetary. Some secondary school teachers direct extracurricular activities, and

Geater Center Case Study
One problem in the City of Anderson is there is nothing for teens to do. Older generations always brag
and talk about how they always had things to do or places to go. If you are under the age of 18
nowadays, there s literally nothing to do besides play sports or get in trouble. We no longer have
facilities for young adults to attend to have fun, for free. There are more children in the city doing
illegal things than anything positive. We the people of Anderson community have to come together
and solve this problem so the younger generations have fun and positive things to do. I always hear
from the adults about how they had access into gyms around the city. They also had a big Boy Girls
Club that was open to the public, kids of all ages attended. What happened to these facilities? The only
thing we have open to children now is the Geater Center. The Geater center is located downtown, kind
of closer to the west side so the only kids who have access to go live close by. We should build more
facilities all around town or turn the old school building into recreation centers for the kids. Doing this
will more than likely get rid of the laziness in most kids. Kids nowadays lack the creativeness and the

The Impact Of Mongol Conquests
As the Mongols expanded their nation through conquest, they were able to revive trade while
cultivating the blend of new ideas and cultural traditions. Despite the positive attributes that the
Mongols brought, the Mongol conquests also caused a great deal of destruction to the societies of Afro
Eurasia during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The barbaric violence used by the Mongols
during these times contradicts the peace and prosperity they supposedly yearned for. The brutality of
the Mongolian military resulted in a large drop of Afro Eurasian population. Mongol invasions were
extremely cruel to the extent where some cities were annihilated and entire populations extinguished.
An anonymous author of The Secret History of the Mongols writes about the merciless Chinggis Khan
and his gruesome warfare tactics he used on the Tangut peoples. The Mongolian ruler ordered Tangut
cities to be destroyed and to have the women, children, and grandchildren all executed. (Doc. 1). This
document provides insight to the extent of the impact of Mongol destruction, where cities like Tangut
were completely destroyed. One would expect the author to glorify the Mongols by discussing the
humane aspect of Mongol conquest, because this account was written for the Mongol royal family.
However, an account like this might have been seen as satisfactory for the royal family, since the
Mongols celebrated and encouraged horrendous atrocities. Russian monks from the city of Novgorod

Hidden Meaning Of Jack From Lord Of The Flies
Brandon Lawrence
Mrs.Brown
English
3 October 2017
Character Analysis Hidden meaning can be found in many different places. They can be in poems,
novels, murals, paintings, and even in everyday life. Hidden meanings are there to challenge the
reader, to make them think and really analyze the work. In the case of the novel The Lord of The Flies,
by William Golding, the hidden meaning comes to us in the form many of his characters. One of them
is Jack. Jack started off like everyone else equal with power or a share of the things on the island.
Later on he takes a group of the kids. Now there are two groups of the kids. Showing that sooner or
later a group may later split into two groups and people will have to chose a side. Jack lead his ...

Ralph is a good leader but most of the boys follow Jacks lead because of a few reasonings and one of
them being that he can hunt and he provided them with food. Even though it was uncooked meat at
least it was protein that needed. At this point in the book William Golding has been foreshadowing
how the boys split into two tribes . One of them being Ralph and the other of course being Jack. Ralph
is the nice and kind leader who wants to get off the island. Jack is the type of leader who rules with
fear and power. His power as being able to provide meat for his people. A fire! Make a faire! At once
half the boys were on their feet. Jack clamored among them, the conch forgotten. Come on! Follow
me! The Space under the palm trees was full of noise and movement. Ralph Was on his feet too,
shouting for quiet, but no one heard him. All at once the crowd swayed toward the island and was
gone following Jack. (William Golding) Now right he is a prime example of how the kids don t listen
to Ralph anymore and they are turning towards Jack as their main leader. Jack has made the boys think
that violence and harm is a way to live. They like it because to them it is fun, daring, and most of all it
can be adventurous. This to the boys is way more fun then making up rules and following them like
how Raph has been doing. There are a few boys that

Essay on Harriet Tubman and the Abolitionist Movement
When we think of African American history we often forget about the people before the civil rights
movement. The people who paved the way for future leaders. Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, and
Rosa parks are often who we think of. We forget about individuals that made a significant impact that
led us to the present place we are today. Harriet Tubman s contribute to history was that she was the
conductor of the Underground Railroad, which helped bring slaves to freedom. Harriet Tubman was
an abolitionist and was part of the woman s suffrage move. Harriet Tubman was born as Araminta
Ross in 1820 or 1821, on a plantation in Dorchester County, Buckton, Maryland, and the slave of
Anthony Thompson. She was one of eleven children to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

name as her mother Harriet. She was sold to James Cook to weave. The weaving often made her
cough and sneeze. She would get severe coughs and fevers. Like many slaves, Harriet was often
whipped. One day she stole a lump of sugar from Miss Susan, in fear of getting whipped she ran away
for four days. However, when she returned home she was whipped severely. She learned a great lesson
from this experience; she should put on layers of clothes so it wouldn t hurt as much when she was
being whipped.
At the age of 13, Harriet became more rebellious; she disobeyed her masters as people watched. One
day, another male slave was getting beat; the overseer wanted to punish him and he wanted Harriet to
help but she refused to. Harriet was hit with a weight, which put a hole in her skull and pushed her
skull against her brain. She described it as it broke my skull and cut a piece of that shawl clean off and
drove it into my head . After the accident she didn t get medical treatment and soon had to return to

  • 2. Synopsis Of A Book Meridian By Alice Walker Essay Nataliya Tyshchenko Professors Aberbach, Decker, Fink GE Cluster: America in the Sixties 4 November 2016 Time Warp: Meridian In psychology, the primacy effect is defined as the tendency to recall primary information better than information divulged later on. This observation can be extended to how first impressions resonate well in the minds of humans. In her historical novel, Meridian, author Alice Walker reshapes perceptions about who holds power and moral authority and what determines this by making time out of joint (choosing an interesting narrative structure, with a most important beginning) and employing symbolism and repetition. Abandoning chronological order forces a reader to constantly abandon preconceived notion about characters, events, movements, and even themselves. As a result, the meaning of reality, life, and what is normal is resignified . The effect of narrative structure is evident when Walker s choice for the beginning of the novel affects the reader s perception of moral authority and power for the rest of the novel. By opening with multiple, and incredibly varying, definitions of the word Meridian, Walker establishes her idea that the main character is tough to pin down. Who she is will not be clear to the audience. This perhaps presages that Meridian s moral authority and power will not be easily defined or pinned down either and it is useless to try to assign a secondary meaning ( myth ) to her because it will always shift. Though it is human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This case is based on adapted highlights from date consecutive articles about Yahoo! by the following journalists, in The Times, The Sunday Times and Times Online: Suzy Jagger and Mike Harvey, along with Murad Ahmed, Amanda Andrews, Holden Frith, Jonathan Richards, Dominic Rushe , Dan Sabbagh, Christine Seib, Susan Thompson, Tempus and John Waples 19/06/07 Jerry Yang was doing a PhD at Stanford when he and fellow student, David Filo, created a website directory. Yahoo! is talking with both News Corporation and AOL, too, trying to forge a strategic alliance against Google. In a letter to Yang, Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, said: I am disappointed. [Our offer] remains the only alternative that provides, for your stockholders, full and fair value. You have left significant value on the table. Yang now has to prove he can boost Yahoo! s share price and justify his board s decision. Ballmer wrote: Our discussions led us to conclude that you would take steps to make Yahoo! undesirable. We regard with particular concern your plan to respond to a hostile bid by outsourcing to Google key paid internet search facilities currently offered by Yahoo! Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, an advertising agency, who wants to see a stronger rival to Google, commented: Microsoft showed self discipline by not bidding higher. Microsoft is a $300bn company with plenty of other ideas. The people who have lost most are agencies who were looking for a better balance in the marketplace. Over half the $40bn spent advertising online is on search ads . Google captured 77% of the market in the fourth quarter. Yahoo! s share was 18%; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Post-colonial Encounters in the Early 20th Century Alfred Noyes wrote The Empire Builders at the turn of the twentieth century. Despite the time at which it was written in, there are various post colonial themes regarding the hierarchy of difference. The tone of the poem is pessimistic which is understandable since Noyes is writing during the Naturalist period of English literature. Noyes is speaking to the middle class of England; those who fulfill their duties as they come (Noyes, 45). He uses the first person plural article to create a unification between the readers and the narrator. Noyes, in his poem, addresses two postcolonial themes of Christianity as a vehicle of colonization, and the fallacies of European philosophy. In this essay, I argue that the themes and structure that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the empire builder has more lines of description, he is situated in a higher category of social stratification. Another instrument that allows the empire builder to situate himself in higher categories of hierarchy is Christianity. Noyes gives Christianity a large amount of agency in the discourse of colonialism. Christianity was composite in producing Africa as backward. Christianity has two roles: firstly, it is a method by which the white man created an inferiority complex amongst the natives and secondly it created a clear distinction between colonizer and native. At the beginning of the poem, he mentions the superiority of the white man and describes them as the Lord God of battles... (Noyes, 5). By saying this, he is not only amplifying the inequality between the white man and the native but also introducing Christianity as a method of creating the divide. On line thirty six, there is a description of the empire builder as having a shadowy crown of thorn (Noyes, 36). At this point in the poem, Noyes is slightly empathizing with the empire builder since he has to carry all the burden of the country on his back. Furthermore, by saying that he has a crown of thorns, Noyes is comparing the status of the empire builder to that of Jesus Christ, which is establishing the former as the highest authority in societal hierarchy. Towards the end of the poem, Noyes makes the distinction between heaven and home. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Undivided Declaration Of Rowland High School In Rowland High School, October 6, 2014. The Undivided Declaration of Rowland High School, When in the course of human events, it becomes imperative to shake off the bands of repeated name callings and falsely given identities which have been connected for so long, and to assume that the playing field is once again even, giving your undivided attention and respect to the opinions of the unheard and abandoned as they state why they have decided to stand up against the bullying and how they plan to write how to isolate themselves from bullying altogether. We hold these truths to be axiomatic: that all students, no matter their background, ethnicity, or rank, are created equal in status and in identity; no student is higher than the other. Each student is equipped with secure and unalienable Rights; that among these rights are Respect, Rightful Identity, and Freedom of Speech. We also believe that rules are formed to protect these certain rights and that the power of these rules comes from the power of the students; whenever any part of the rule fails to protect these rights, it is the right of the students to change it and to form a new rule that follows such principles which organizes its powers to end in Security and Happiness. Fair judgment, as a matter of fact, will ordain to say that long prevailing consequences should not be changed because of trivial, temporary, or fleeting reasons; and, in fact, history proves that students are more likely to suffer the bullying, ... Ford and GM are required to strictly follow NYSE corporate governance standards. Toyota is permitted to follow certain corporate governance practices complying with Japanese laws and regulations, the NYSE has ruled that Toyota is exempt from certain NYSE corporate governance requirements. A significant difference in Toyota s corporate governance structure is that the company currently does not have any directors that can be deemed as independent directors. Another major difference is that unlike domestic US companies Toyota is not required to have shareholder approval of equity compensation plans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the ISS only computes CGQ s for American companies, we can only compare GM and Ford. Fords Corporate Governance Quotient as of March 2007 is better than 4.5% of S P 500 companies and 52.5% better than industry competitors, while GM s CGQ is better than 98.4% of S P 500 companies and 100% of industry competitors. Clearly GM s corporate governance structure is rated higher than Fords. All three of these companies are industry giants. Toyota s market capitalization is 240.32b, GM s market capitalization is 17.53b, and Ford s market capitalization is 15.01b. The large difference in market capitalization between the competitors is because of falling share prices in GM and Ford, while Toyota s share prices have been rising. This can also be attributed to the recent profitability of Toyota vs. Ford and GM. The difference in share prices also accounts for the large differences in average daily trading volume which is led by Ford ($7.94/share) whose average volume is 60,244,600 compared to GM (30.99/share) whose average ... Flattery In Julius Caesar Research Paper In William Shakespeare s tragedy, Julius Caesar, flattery plays a very important role and is a tool that is used several times within the play and appears to work when trying to persuade people more often than not. The instances where flattery is particularly visible are when Cassius uses flattery with Brutus, Decius flatters Caesar, and Antony uses flattery with Brutus. The most important example is when Cassius uses flattery with Brutus. The flattery used upon Brutus is what affects the entire play. • 9. The Goal Of The Indian Boarding Schools The Indian boarding schools had many goals; however, the primary goal was to completely obliterate the culture of indigenous people. This process was done through small goals. The Indians didn t have many options. The only options that they were given were either to be killed or to assimilate into white civilization through Indian boarding schools. Richard Pratt, a former military man is a prime example of implementing Indian boarding schools. Indian children were taking from their home reservations to attend off reservation boarding schools. The goals of the boarding school were to kill the Indian, save the man. Indians attending boarding schools were going through an assimilation process. The long term goal was to leave with a white man s image or with white ways. This was achieved through Indians being forced to cut their hair, wearing military uniforms, learning English, new religion (ex: Christianity). Through this process, many children forgot what their birth given name was. It was not uncommon for children to return back to their reservation with no recollection of who they are Your name s not Billy. Your name s TAH rruhm, she told him (Bear, Charla). The white Anglo Saxons goal was to erase anything associated with Indian culture because in their minds they viewed Indians as savages. The white people in charge of running these boarding schools went to extreme lengths to achieve erasure. These short term goals were very traumatizing for the children ... Throughout time, rugby uniforms have been modified, but they are still the same in some areas. In the past, jerseys were somewhat similar to polo shirts. On the back, they had a specific assigned number and their team colors were striped horizontally. Also on a few shirts they have a rose on them or a nice plant that represents their club team. • 11. Essay on Aspects of Social Injustice in The Shawshank... It is not an exaggeration to say that society is an irreplaceable factor when it comes to developing a person s potential to its fullest. Indeed, a considerable number of features considered characteristics of our kind could have only been developed within the boundaries of society and are found nowhere else in the world of living organisms. However, society may not always be the best platform for the development of one s individuality. Sometimes people are not treated in a correct manner, which gives rise to social injustice. They employ the abilities of the main character to get out of difficult situations with taxes. This means that while being in prison, Andy Dufresne is forced to use experience to trick the federal tax system. In other words, a criminal, after being accused of committing a crime, is continuously forced to commit another crime. While prison is supposed to make people think about the wrong they have done, the prison in the movie forces a person to walk the path of a criminal much further than one wants to. Another aspect in which social injustice is portrayed in the movie is a scene involving one of the supporting characters: an old prison librarian named Brooks Hatlen. After spending fifty years in the prison environment, the poor man is finally set free, but he finds it extremely difficult to adapt to a society that has changed over five decades. In fact, he finds it impossible, so he hangs himself, suggesting that there is no way for him to adapt to the new world. Once again, this is a vivid example of the negative impact of prison on individuals. Society accused Brooks of committing a forbidden action and punished him for it by taking away his freedom. However, in reality, it put him in the destructive environment that gradually destroyed his personality and did not leave him a chance to become a better person (Kallen 89). The reason I didn t feel as confident at the beginning of the year is because I was an ESOL student. His makes you feel uncomfortable and unconfident near them. And only once you learn all the things they know, you feel confident just as much they do. After 3 years in the USA I now know that I m ready for high school, and ready to share what I know. I know things that I would never had thought I will know as good as now, like, english. The only way to learn something new, the correct way, such as a new language, is to be at that place, to hear how people talk, have conversation, and how they use words.
