the first automobile insurance policy for $114.74 and became USAA s first member. Two years later in
1924 USAA printed their first credo. The company motto was Service to the Services. 1928 was the

Zodiac Symbols In The Go-Between By L. P. Hartley
The Go Between by L.P. Hartley features the narrator, Leo Colston who has found and is rereading his
childhood diary from the summer of 1900. This summer is paramount in Leo s personal development
and the shaping of his views of the world. In the summer of 1900, Leo was approaching his thirteenth
birthday and staying with his friend and schoolmate Marcus Maudsley at Marcus family s estate,
Brandham Hall. There, Leo is forced to confront class, love, and loss of innocence throughout the
course of this summer. Leo s story is retold when he finds the diary that he kept that summer. Leo s
diary entries show his affinity for Zodiac symbols, which was inspired by the astrological symbols
that are at the beginning of the diary. Leo used these symbols ... Show more content on

He first purposefully told Marian that Ted wanted to meet her at six o clock, when Ted told Leo half
past six o clock. Then, Leo decides that he should use the same magic spells that he used to ward off
his violent school bullies in the beginning of the diary. Leo used the nightshade that was growing in
the shed that Ted and Marian would use to rendezvous. Leo ultimately decides not to use the
nightshade as it is deadly. However, the nightshade does cause Leo to fall ill and he has to go home
soon after. Ted Burgess commits suicide soon after Marian s mother finds them having sex in the shed.
It was then that we saw them, together on the ground, the Virgin and the Water carrier, two bodies
moving like one. (Hartley. 305). Leo holds himself partially responsible for the death of Ted due to his
magic spell that was only meant to break up the couple. However, Leo ends up physically hurting
himself as well. This brings forward the idea that Leo saw himself closely related to Ted Burgess. Leo
does not want to be Ted, because it reinforces Leo s own class status and inability to break out of it in
order to be with

The Aspects Of Ias 17
IAS 17 Leases prescribes the accounting policies and discloses applicable to leases, both for lessees
and lessors (Deloitte, 2015:1). All leases are either classified as a finance lease or an operating lease,
with the main difference being the information that is required to be recorded on the balance sheet. As
some information is then off balance sheet, this can cause conflict with the objective of financial
statements. As the objectives are set to provide financial information about the entity to existing and
potential investors, lenders and creditors, without this information it is hard for them to see the true
value of the company (ACCA, 2011). This essay will discuss the aspects of IAS 17 in detail while
approaching conflicts that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the article by Milano (2012) also describes how operating leases can be an efficient and
flexible way of leasing to many businesses. Leasing can be an advantage to a lot of successful
companies if managed accurately. The lessee has a choice in the portion of the life of the asset they
lease, meaning when that contract is up they can refresh the asset with a newer version which can lead
to improved performance and reliability (Milano, 2012). These advantages can be received by both
financing and operating leases, although the downfall of the operating lease is that the liability of the
full cost of the asset is not recorded in their balance sheet, instead only the smaller cost of the annual
expense is included. This could mean that an investor or owner taking on a company may not realise
the large amount of expense that occurs from leasing an asset as the total liability cannot be seen.
Enron is a well known example of a company that has run into trouble as a result of concealing large
amounts of debt from the company accounts (BBC, 2002). The company grew dramatically very
quickly in the US, and then the success turned out to be as a result of their scam, the company ended
up being the biggest business bankruptcy ever (Forbes, 2013). The Enron scandal has resulted in many
other companies being investigated for the same offences. Barclays bank are an example of this as
they struck an unusual deal

The Mongol Invasions
Trade and travel played a large part in the cultural development nations and gave people an incentive
to interact with one another. The Mongol invasions seemed too led to mass destruction, but by the end
of the Mongol conquest a new order had been laid in place. This order let to greater communication
which opened the trade routes and encouraged travel from Eurasia to Africa. As more trade routes
opened a diffusion of knowledge occurred spreading technologies along the trade routes. However
Technology wasn t the only thing spread along the trade routes, diseases were also spread causing
mass death tolls. The drive to have better trade routes encouraged exploration and the discovery of the
Americas. By the year 1000 the Mongol invasion and conquest was complete. The leaders Mongol
leaders set out to create a better system of communication. The new order that the Mongol Lords

These large continents offered not only more resources for trading, but also land for the taking. The
trade route now had a whole new world to influence. The Europeans set out to make this land a
reflection of their own beliefs and customs, while profiting from the land itself. These trade routes
created a highway that for the first time really connected the people of the world. Once the Europeans
had a trade route established they began to trade in earnest with the coastal area of Africa. Those
goods imported to Africa in greatest volumes included cloth, iron and copper in raw and worked form,
and cowry shells used by local populations as currency (Bortolot). The European traders then took the
goods they had gotten from the African market home to sell. The trade ships would return to their
nations loaded with carvings, spices, and ivory. They would sell these exotic fares for a goodly sum

planeta,

Christian Meditation
Some Christians are against meditation in general, or even mediation in Christian context. Some are
fearful because they automatically associate any type of meditation with Asian religious traditions.
The Christian practice of meditation has been forgotten by some, and it has been centuries since it was
a common tradition. In his book, Prayer of Heart and Body, Thomas Ryan says that rather than
learning intellectually about God that the meditation allows the Christian to know Him through direct
experience. Christian meditation has been around as long as Christianity itself, including the three
major branches, Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant including evangelical denominations. In his thesis on
the difference between Christian meditation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Augustine was a Christian monk from the sixteenth century who used devotion and memory to reflect
on Genesis as the model for spiritual life with God. St. Augustine s meditation is an example of
devotional meditation. Augustine s prayer life focused on engaging the mind, emotions and motivation
for a direct link to God. St. Teresa of Avila, also of the sixteenth century, emphasized what is known as
a prayer of union and the boy as a means to achieve it through importance of contemplative prayer and
meditation on the greatness of God. Her works were part of the inspiration behind Jeanne Marie
Bouvier de la Motte Guyon and the Quietist controversy of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Meditation in the Society of Friends, or Quakers, is closely related to the Quietist movement because
they both focus on internal spiritual life with God. Protestant Bishop Joseph Hall, a ...of the sixteenth
and seventeenth centuries was influenced by Augustine and wrote several works on meditation titled
The Arte of Divine Meditation, Meditations and Vowes, and Heaven on Earth. Despite this, Hall saw
meditation as no more than a means to turn the mind on a spiritual item through dialog on a topic. Hall
identified three types of meditation: two deliberate forms of meditation logical and emotional and then
what Hall referred to as an occasional meditation because it was prompted by external

Now use the conjoint part worths to run another segmentation analysis and explore whether there are
distinct segments (as opposed to the overall market) that would prefer the new Kirin product you
designed. [Note: you may need to create a new data file that combines the partworth data sheet from

back and forth between these two files to select the required data to run the analysis]. Should you
standardize the data when running this segmentation analysis? [why or why not]. After running the
segmentation tool, how many segments do you find? Which segment looks most promising for Kirin,
and what market share could Kirin achieve in this segment? Is it worthwhile for Kirin to design a

A. While running the segmentation analysis with the part worth data we didn t need to standardize the

data). After running the segmentation analysis, we get 3 clusters as displayed by the following

Nintendo Gamecube Research Papers
Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube came out in 2001 and since then has gained a
huge following in the realm of eSports. The game consists of two players fighting for control over the
stage. When your opponent hits you with a move, your percent goes up by a specific amount and you
are knocked back. The next time you get hit, you get knocked back a little further. The object of the
game is to get the other player out of the box of the map. This basic concept produced a grassroots
community around the world that holds tournaments with anywhere from a dozen players crowded
around one CRT television to more recent grand scale tournaments held in stadiums with thousands of
entrants. As the community grew, it was clear that a few players stood out from the rest. These players

However, all of this changed with one swedish player, William Leffen Hjelte. Leffen is seen as the
villain of the competitive smash scene, mainly due to his rude and vulgar attitude in and out of the
game, but also because he did what no other player can do. Competitive smash was changed forever
when Leffen took out every god of melee and similarly when SFAT showed his major improvements
in 2016. Leffen s first win over a god happened at Apex 2014 when he beat Hungrybox, a Jigglypuff
player who was ranked 5th in the world at the time. This victory put the otherwise unknown Leffen on
the radar of the smash scene and began his journey to the top (Rogowski). The next god Leffen had his
sights on was Armada. Leffen, being a fellow swedish player, had faced off with him plenty of times
before but was never able to surmount the wall that is Armada; a player that has not dropped a set to a

early loss to a player named Ice that sent him into the loser s bracket. However, Leffen

The Studies Of Music And How It May Not Help The Alzheimer...
In order to understand how the studies of music and how it may or may not help the Alzheimer s
disease (AD) one would need the background of it. AD is a progressive neurological disease that leads
to deterioration in cognitive abilities. People with AD encounter a progressive decline in their
neurological capabilities, which manifest in language deficits, among other cognitive difficulties. The
main failures in speech include naming difficulties, verbal fluency deficit, comprehension problems,
and deterioration of spontaneous speech. People with AD tend to have discourse deficits, which
include empty phrases, indefinite words, and repetitions. The speech of a person with the deficits is
difficult for an interlocutor to follow. Thus, theses progressive language failures can lead people with
AD to isolation. Due to their progressive inability to communicate, people with AD need interventions
that address their communication needs and help prevent social isolation (Dass, A., Amir, D. 2014).
Increased social interaction can improve quality of life by enabling people with AD to remain socially
engaged. Communication trainings include active instruction such as role playing and analyzing video
observations of conversations with people with AD. Computer based systems are also used, providing
multimedia stimuli. Reminiscence therapy uses the intact long term memory that enabling people with
AD to engage in a conversation about their past experiences (Dass, A., Amir, D.

A1 Steak Sauce and Marinades | To: | Smith, Chuck | From: | | CC: | | Date: | | Re: | Lawry s Defense |
Comments: | Issue Lawry is attempting to release a new steak sauce that should penetrate the market
by early April. Obviously a new player in the market is not a major concern to A1/Kraft, having over
50 percent of the market share. The best case scenario for Lawry is that they will only gain ten percent
of the market share. The direct threat for A1 lies with Lawry s marketing tactics. Lawry is attempting
to launch a Memorial Day advertisement with Publix, offering a two for $5 promotion. The issue is
that retailers generally support only one brand in a particular category in a given week. In recent years

[Appendix B shows Pro Forma for Option 1 and Appendix C shows a Pro Forma for Option 2] A1 can
also take a reactive approach by increase its advertising while Lawry is running its two for $5
promotion. A1 Steak Sauce can pay for more efficient shelf spacing in the retail outlet. This will
include end caps, more facings in the stores, larger and increase signage (bigger and better than what
they have done in years past). A1 can also use their brand recognition to their advantage by ensuring
more restaurants that publically use A1 display their products, rather it s on the menu or tables.
Currently A1 spends roughly 15% of total revenue on advertising. Option 3: A1 could simply increase
their percentage of revenue to marketing and adverting from 15% to 20%. This approach will decrease
A1 s net profit by roughly 7.5million (with the worst case scenario that A1 will not increase sales at
all) but it will allow A1 to increase its brand awareness and make it substantially harder for Lawry to
penetrate the market with its new steak sauce. [Appendix D displays A1 s pro forma with the original
15% of revenue funding its marketing while Appendix E displays an increase to 20% of revenue
funding marketing initiatives]Recommendation: Based on the financial analysis of each option,

The Americans With Disabilities Act
Since it was signed into law in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has been a challenge
for employers to implement. This law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in both
public and public businesses. There were numerous lawsuits where disabled employees have charged
that employers have failed to accommodate his or her needs in the workplace. However, Supreme
Court decisions interpreted the act in a way that made it difficult to prove that an impairment was a
disability thereby ruling in favor of an employer. As a result, the ADAAmendments Act of 2008
(ADAA) was enacted to clarify the definition of disability (United States, Department of Justice, Civil
Rights Division, 2014, para. 1). Companies from every industry struggle to ensure that it meets the
requirements to ensure that no disparity between individuals with a disability and those without a
disability. In Accommodations of Patients with Disabilities in Primary Care: A Mixed Methods Study
of Practice Administrators, the author addresses the disparities in how health care facilities treat
individuals with disabilities compared to individuals with no disability (Pharr, 2013). This paper will
summarize the findings of this study and the impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the
ADAAmendments Act of 2008 on health care. In her study, Pharr surveyed a group of primary care

Sociological Aspects Of Consumerism
ONE
My purpose for this is not to give solutions to fix this problem, but rather to shed light on it because i
do believe this is a problem that we are not aware of, as a culture. In today s world I believe we no
longer value conversations or acts of kindness or human interaction in general. its all about things. We
have become mindless consumers and are so obsessed with things, stuff, junk, call it what you want,
its controlling our lives.
TWO
There are a few ways in which one could interpret the word consumerism and its effects, economic,
environmental etc. but I am going focus on the psychological and sociological aspects of it, So what is
consumerism, how does it affect you? And why should you care? The sociology definition of
consumerism is the belief that personal well being and happiness depend on the level of personal
consumption. Essentially, the problem isn t consumption, it s consumerism, there is a very important
difference. If consumption is the act, consumerism is the social system which exists when that act
becomes defining of a society. And it s consumerism that causes the problems. Consumerism takes the
act of consumption and turns it into the defining act of our role as social beings.

The Banning Of Books In American Schools
Over the past few years, with the increasing inflammation of America s political climate, many books
have been banned all across American schools simply for the inclusion of material that was deemed
offensive by teachers and other staff alike, with the children tending not to be significantly affected by
the contents of the books. Several books subject to this censorship include Slaughterhouse 5,
Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and To Kill a Mockingbird. I wholeheartedly believe they were unjustly banned,
as their pro freedom messages were interpreted as being against freedom, and that they deserve to be
given a second chance in many schools.
To begin, there were many reasons for the banning of these books that can be easily disproved. These

The Need for Groundwater Extraction Regulation
Groundwater is used primarily for irrigating farmland; and secondarily, for consumption and industrial
use. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and
groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at
large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks,
extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. The problem is especially severe
in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater withdrawal in the United States
(Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would directly lead to diminished food
production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from outside the state. Groundwater resources
are an unregulated public resource and despite any innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques,
the only sustainable, long term solution is to enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much
groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain
water from alternative sources is the ideal solution to address the perennially growing challenge of
groundwater depletion in California.
This regulatory effort must begin in politics but it needs to spread to society as well only when people
realize the consequences of over extraction will they even consider ceasing doing so. This solution is
not based primarily in science and technology, and is

They make their decisions based on financial information certified by CPAs. This profession, and
since its appearance, has not stagnated and has undergone several changes. These changes occurred
mainly after the financial scandals of the 2000s. These changes are primarily the approval of the
Sarbanes Oxley Act.
AICPA issued an examination of the future of the profession and the determining factors of the future
of CPAs. The project examined the trends affecting CPAs in their daily work, enlisted opinions on
how these trends will impact CPAs in the years ahead, and helped to identify actions the profession
could take to meet challenges and leverage opportunities now and in the coming years. (AICPA)
In this study we will be interested to look at four influential factors in the profession of CPAs which
are: Pre certification and lifelong learning, pride in the profession, value proposition, and world wide
profession.
The four most important themes that I consider are:
1) Pre certification and lifelong Learning:
A CPA has to maintain a dynamic changing of business in matters related to government regulations

must dedicate time to stay current with regulations, social economics, technology, and political trends

The Importance of Classifying and Distinguishing Between Independent Contractors and Employee s
Briggs, Latisha J.
National University
Abstract Through this paper we will explore the importance of distinguishings classifications between
independent contractors and employees. We will examine identifying established relationship between
employers and workers while covering assigned roles of employees and independent contractors. We
will briefly discuss enacted laws and recommended practices to avoid misclassification penalties and
consequences. Lastly, we will explore vital factors that should be considered while classifying
workers.
The Importance of Distinguishing Classification Between Independent Contractors and Employees
Determining the classification between an independent contractor and an employee proves to be rather
complex, yet vital, regarding tax issues. Therefore, assigning correct classification is critical to both
employer and workers that carry out the labor, especially pertaining to benefits and tax payment
obligations. Organizations that classify their workers as employees assume financial responsibility for
them. Hartman asserts this by stating that, the distinction, however, is significant for tax law
compliance and categorization, for benefit plans, for cost reduction plans, and for discrimination
claims (Bennett Alexander, Hartman, 2012). Specifically, the employer s

Gender Specific Role In Forging Groups
From the time that fully modern humans emerged about 100,00 years ago up until approximately
12,000 years ago, societies of humans practiced foraging as a means for their survival. This period in
which foraging was predominant is known as the pre complexity period. In the traditional sense,
anthropologists classify complex societies as those that are sedentary and practice farming instead of
foraging. The traditional classification of a sedentary, agrarian society as complex is imperfect
because it discounts the societal complexities found within foraging bands. While these societies are
sometimes portrayed as primitive without culture, they actually have an egalitarian social structure
with language, religion, and a vast knowledge of the landscape in which they lived. The !Kung people
of southern Africa, for example, were able to identify close to 90 different plant species and utilize
them in their diet. While there were clear gender specific roles in foraging societies, where women
tended to gather plants while men hunted, the societies themselves did not have persistent inequalities.

These characteristics include increased population, increased urbanism, use of storage, increased
inequalities, economic interdependence between societies, and an increase in central authority. These
characteristics are best understood through a web model instead of a direct linear chain of events. This
is due to the fact that many of these characteristics likely coevolved together and could have
developed in various different orders based on the location of the society. For example, one society
could have consolidated authority before the introduction of record keeping, while another society
may have prioritized agrarian record keeping and as a result power was consolidated amongst those

Hmong In America
On the other hand, the U.S. Hmong community has experienced a drastically different history,
resulting in a socioeconomic status well below the Asian American averages. Hmong Americans
arrived in the United States as political refugees escaping communist forces in Laos, Vietnam, and
Thailand. During North Vietnam s invasion of Laos, the U.S. CIA began recruiting and training
indigenous Hmong men to fight in General Pao s Secret Army. 60% of Hmong men in Laos received
financial assistance from the CIA in exchange for their service. After the takeover of pro U.S.
governments in South Vietnam and Laos, Hmong soldiers escaped to Thailand where they were forced
into refugee camps. The first wave of Hmong who arrived in the U.S. in 1975 were primarily ... Show

Hmong report below average English proficiency, educational attainment, and household income. Due
to the model minority argument, Hmong and other struggling Asian American subgroups don t receive
substantial government assistance despite their alarming statistics. In their native countries, Hmong
lived in isolated, rural regions with little traditional schooling functioning primarily as farmers. As a
result of the Hmong coming to the U.S. as refugees as opposed to immigrants, they didn t undergo the
same self selection process which favors educated and wealthy professionals. Because the majority of
Hmong came to the U.S. for survival rather than economic gain they were unprepared socially and
economically for life in the U.S. In 2015, 60% of the foreign born Hmong population reported their
level of education as high school or less. Additionally, only 40% of the foreign born Hmong
population reported being proficient in English. These statistics indicate that a large portion of Hmong
refugees arrived in the U.S. with minimal education and spoke little English making assimilation even
more difficult. Hmong Americans report a median household income of $48,000 while the U.S.
average is $57,000. This statistic is particularly troubling because although Hmong are only slightly
behind the U.S. average 32% of them live in multigenerational households and average greater than

Worldview Of Theistic Evolution And Special Creation
Theistic evolution is the most common worldview of how the earth and life started, some others are
atheistic evolution (also commonly known as Darwinian evolution and naturalistic evolution) and
special creation. Versions of theistic evolution come to the point between one of two extremes. One
view is close to deism, which says God allows only natural processes to influence the development of
life. The other assumes that God constantly used miraculous intervention to guide evolution
(GotQuestions.org). The first problem of theistic evolution is that they state that there is a God, but He
is not directly involved in the origin of life. According to this view, God created the building blocks
and natural laws with the plan of there becoming life

Charles Dickens The Signalman and A Birthday by Karen Mansfield
A signalman is a short story written by Charles Dickens. This is a story about a signalman who is
driven mad by the environment of his work, away from sunlight and people. But he was not alone; a
supernatural ghost decides to accompany him too. He has a lot of responsibilities to shoulder.
There are only two characters that really are prominent in the short story. In fact in the story, there are
only about three to five characters. The important characters are the signalman and the narrator.
Charles Dickens uses dialogue to make the characters more appealing and easier to understand. He has

I observed him to be remarkably exact and vigilant, breaking off his discourse at a syllable, and
remaining silent until what he had to do was done. The signalman seemed to love his work even if he
did not love his work he was always very devoted to his work.
I believe that one s work environment or even home environment defines a person and that is what
builds one s character. The signalman had nothing in his life except his job; he had nothing to return to
his home for, no wife or children. His work environment was unpleasant and seems unhealthy and the
narrator saw this as stepping into the

The teacher needs to be caring so that the students in the class feel important and wanted. Another

The Invention Of Inkjet Printing
The concept of inkjet printing originated in the 20th century, and the technology was first extensively
developed in the early 1950s. Starting in the late 1970s inkjet printers that could reproduce digital
images generated by computers were developed, mainly by Epson, Hewlett Packard (HP), and Canon.
Although inkjet printers only appeared on the consumer market in the late 1980s, they had been under
development for more than twenty years by that time. In the mid 1970s, printer companies realized the
potential of the technology that would make dot matrix printers obsolete. The challenge, however, was
to come up with a way to create an affordable inkjet printer that would reliably create high quality
print outs .In the worldwide consumer market, four manufacturers account for the majority of inkjet
printer sales: Canon, HP, Epson, and Lexmark, a 1991 spin off from IBM.[1]( IBM Archives: 1990s .

The continuous ink jet method is used commercially for marking and coding of products and
packages. The first patent on the idea is from 1867, by William Thomson. The first commercial model
was introduced in 1951 by Siemens. In continuous ink jet technology, a high pressure pump directs
liquid ink from a reservoir through a microscopic nozzle, creating a continuous stream of ink droplets.

Immigration Policy And Foreign Policy
Immigration policy and foreign policy are in many ways interlinked, as they are often used to meet
goals in one another s policy areas. Together, they are used to enhance the safety of our citizens,
making this topic particularly important. Immigration is specifically linked to our foreign policy
efforts with underdeveloped countries (Keely 1978). To fully understand one policy area, you must
understand aspects of the other. Thus, one should consider these relationships when analyzing and
evaluating Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump s policies on immigration reform.
Immigration policy can often be used as a tool for foreign policy goals. This usually occurs when
national safety is threatened, and it is sparked by merely the perception that immigration and terrorism
are linked. Many believe that terrorists can enter our country by manipulating Immigration laws such
as refugee asylums, which leads to stricter immigration policy to better secure our national safety
(Franzblau 1997, 4 11). Even now, the Republican Nominee for President of the United States, Donald
Trump, makes statements like, our immigration system is being used to attack us (Hensch 2015).
Regardless of the truth value behind his statement, it is relevant to note that the notion itself by such
an important political figure could create a push for stricter immigration policy. The change in policy
may be surrounding the issue of immigration, but the actual goal is the foreign policy goal of
enhanced national

Imagine a day when youngsters would leave for school carrying nothing more than an electronic
device weighing less than one pound. The advent and growing popularity of electronic textbooks may

Ken White, an instructor at Everett Community College, points out that some older students may have

Difference Between La Comunicacion And Interpersonal
Capítulo I

a. Higher levels of education for women
b. Higher unemployment rates for women
c. Higher average pay levels for women
d. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women
Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to work
outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women s education level increases, so does
the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. This means a

Fewer positions equal fewer opportunities. Therefore, women chosing not to work outside the home
are not effected by higher employment rates for women. Higher average pay levels for women would
increase the opportunity cost. Women chosing to work outside the home would have more opportunity
at higher wages. Whereas, women chosing not to work outside the home relinquish the higher
earnings. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women
would mean fewer positions available for women choosing to work outside the home, causing the

Managing Pain During The Acute Care Setting
Everyone experiences pain differently, its etiology, source, and type of pain is unique to each patient.
Pain is defined as a complex, multidimensional phenomenon that originates from sensory stimuli,
which has obvious motivation affective properties, demands attention, disrupts thought and behavior
and results in activity aimed to stop the pain (Blanchard, 2010). Managing pain in the acute care
setting has become one of the greatest challenges nurses and healthcare providers face.
Unsatisfactorily managed pain can contribute to several adverse outcomes for hospitalized patients
including reduced mobility, stimulation of unhealthy stress response, infection, creates barriers, and
additional complications. As pain treatment becomes more aggressive, so too does our attention to
reassessment of pain after intervention to ensure both safe and effective pain management (Gordon,
2014).
In 1992, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research provided guidelines for the management of
acute postoperative pain. The goals of the pain management guidelines are to reduce pain,
complications, and length of hospital stay, to educate patients in communicating unrelieved pain; and
to enhance patient satisfaction with pain management practices (Good, 1998). From these guidelines,
Marion Good, PhD, RN, helped develop a middle range theory for Acute Pain Management for adults
who can learn, set goals, and communicate symptoms. The theory does not pertain to individuals such

The first step for mummification is to take the body to the tent, also known as Ibu, which is a place to
purify the body. The body will be washed with a specific wine and later on rise with water from the

to cut the body. The first cut is usually on the left side of the body and they will remove as much as
possible of the internal organs. It s important to remove the internal organs because it s the first part of
the body that will decompose. The organs are cleaned and placed in canopic jars but the heart is kept
inside of the body because it is the centre of intelligence and feeling and the man will need it in the

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Christ Climbed Down, AndSometime...
Lawrence Ferlinghetti is often regarded as one of the most influential American poets of the 20th
century, and his writing covers a wide range of social topics regarding the status of American culture
during the 1950s and 60s. Many of Ferlinghetti s works focus on his vision of America and how that
vision had not come to fruition because of the less than ideal situations surrounding American culture
at the time. Consequently, Ferlinghetti was also an avid member of the Beat generation and used his
ability to write as a platform for spreading the message of the Beatniks. As we have discussed in class,

1. What would it take for AMD to see a significant increase in its market share in processors used in
corporate desktops and notebooks? How can the success of Opteron in the server segment be
leveraged to other segments?
Before coming back on the success of Opteron , AMD s product range in the server segment, we have
to explain the history of the company and what leads AMD to launch this new innovative and
disruptive product line in 2003.
For years, AMD held the place of a distant follower of the large microprocessor market leader, Intel.
Up to there, the competitor Intel led the market (with a push strategy) by creating consumer needs
thanks to technological innovations. Those were linked with strong marketing campaign in order to
facilitate a quicker adoption process of their new product line. However, in 2003, AMD change its
traditional strategy to use a widely different one by switching into a blue ocean strategy. Indeed, AMD
has changed course to become a starter firm. AMD has decided to launch at first its own brand server
microprocessor range, called Opteron before one of Intel. At this moment, the firm made the decision
to initiate the moves of server segment and therefore take heavier risks in term of investments, sales,

Ulcerative Proctitis
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease of the large intestine where the inner lining
of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers, that produces pus or mucous
and may cause bleeding. It affects the innermost lining of the large intestine and the rectum. The
rectum is always involved in ulcerative colitis. When inflammation only occurs in the rectum, the
disease is called ulcerative proctitis. If the inflammation extends into the upper parts of the colon and
the whole colon is involved, it is called universal proctitis or pancolitis (Christian Novdqvist).
Swelling causes the bowel to move its contents quickly and evacuate frequently. It rarely affects the
small intestine.

The diagnosis of this condition is insinuated by the symptoms of rectal bleeding, abdominal bleeding,
and diarrhea. The doctor must rule out other possible causes. Some tests may include a stool test to
check for infection, a blood test to reveal what the white blood cell count is, a colonoscopy to examine

There is no cure for ulcerative colitis, only medications to reduce symptoms or surgical intervention.

This summer is paramount in Leo s personal development and the shaping of his views of the world. In the summer of 1900, Leo was approaching his thirteenth birthday and staying with his friend and schoolmate Marcus Maudsley at Marcus family s estate, Brandham Hall. There, Leo is forced to confront class, love, and loss of innocence throughout the course of this summer. Leo s story is retold when he finds the diary that he kept that summer. All leases are either classified as a finance lease or an operating lease, with the main difference being the information that is required to be recorded on the balance sheet. As some information is then off balance sheet, this can cause conflict with the objective of financial statements. As the objectives are set to provide financial information about the entity to existing and potential investors, lenders and creditors, without this information it is hard for them to see the true value of the company (ACCA, 2011). However, the article by Milano (2012) also describes how operating leases can be an efficient and flexible way of leasing to many businesses. Leasing can be an advantage to a lot of successful companies if managed accurately. The lessee has a choice in the portion of the life of the asset they lease, meaning when that contract is up they can refresh the asset with a newer version which can lead to improved performance and reliability (Milano, 2012). These advantages can be received by both financing and operating leases, although the downfall of the operating lease is that the liability of the full cost of the asset is not recorded in their balance sheet, instead only the smaller cost of the annual expense is included. This could mean that an investor or owner taking on a company may not realise the large amount of expense that occurs from leasing an asset as the total liability cannot be seen. Enron is a well known example of a company that has run into trouble as a result of concealing large amounts of debt from the company accounts (BBC, 2002). The company grew dramatically very quickly in the US, and then the success turned out to be as a result of their scam, the company ended up being the biggest business bankruptcy ever (Forbes, 2013). Augustine was a Christian monk from the sixteenth century who used devotion and memory to reflect on Genesis as the model for spiritual life with God. St. Augustine s meditation is an example of devotional meditation. Augustine s prayer life focused on engaging the mind, emotions and motivation for a direct link to God. St. Teresa of Avila, also of the sixteenth century, emphasized what is known as a prayer of union and the boy as a means to achieve it through importance of contemplative prayer and meditation on the greatness of God. In order to understand how the studies of music and how it may or may not help the Alzheimer s disease (AD) one would need the background of it. AD is a progressive neurological disease that leads to deterioration in cognitive abilities. People with AD encounter a progressive decline in their neurological capabilities, which manifest in language deficits, among other cognitive difficulties. The main failures in speech include naming difficulties, verbal fluency deficit, comprehension problems, and deterioration of spontaneous speech. People with AD tend to have discourse deficits, which include empty phrases, indefinite words, and repetitions. The speech of a person with the deficits is difficult for an interlocutor to follow. Thus, theses progressive language failures can lead people with AD to isolation. Due to their progressive inability to communicate, people with AD need interventions that address their communication needs and help prevent social isolation (Dass, A., Amir, D. 2014). Increased social interaction can improve quality of life by enabling people with AD to remain socially engaged. Communication trainings include active instruction such as role playing and analyzing video observations of conversations with people with AD. Computer based systems are also used, providing multimedia stimuli. This law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in both public and public businesses. There were numerous lawsuits where disabled employees have charged that employers have failed to accommodate his or her needs in the workplace. However, Supreme Court decisions interpreted the act in a way that made it difficult to prove that an impairment was a disability thereby ruling in favor of an employer. Sociological Aspects Of Consumerism ONE My purpose for this is not to give solutions to fix this problem, but rather to shed light on it because i do believe this is a problem that we are not aware of, as a culture. In today s world I believe we no longer value conversations or acts of kindness or human interaction in general. its all about things. We have become mindless consumers and are so obsessed with things, stuff, junk, call it what you want, its controlling our lives. TWO There are a few ways in which one could interpret the word consumerism and its effects, economic, environmental etc. but I am going focus on the psychological and sociological aspects of it, So what is consumerism, how does it affect you? And why should you care? The sociology definition of consumerism is the belief that personal well being and happiness depend on the level of personal consumption. Essentially, the problem isn t consumption, it s consumerism, there is a very important difference. If consumption is the act, consumerism is the social system which exists when that act becomes defining of a society. And it s consumerism that causes the problems. Consumerism takes the act of consumption and turns it into the defining act of our role as social beings. THREE People tend to measure their quality of life based on the amount of things they have. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks, extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. The problem is especially severe in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater withdrawal in the United States (Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would directly lead to diminished food production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from outside the state. Groundwater resources are an unregulated public resource and despite any innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques, the only sustainable, long term solution is to enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain water from alternative sources is the ideal solution to address the perennially growing challenge of groundwater depletion in California. HMR630 Week #1 Paper February 7, 2015 The Importance of Classifying and Distinguishing Between Independent Contractors and Employee s Briggs, Latisha J. National University Abstract Through this paper we will explore the importance of distinguishings classifications between independent contractors and employees. We will examine identifying established relationship between employers and workers while covering assigned roles of employees and independent contractors. We will briefly discuss enacted laws and recommended practices to avoid misclassification penalties and consequences. Lastly, we will explore vital factors that should be considered while classifying workers. The Importance of Distinguishing Classification Between Independent Contractors and Employees Determining the classification between an independent contractor and an employee proves to be rather complex, yet vital, regarding tax issues. Therefore, assigning correct classification is critical to both employer and workers that carry out the labor, especially pertaining to benefits and tax payment obligations. Organizations that classify their workers as employees assume financial responsibility for them. Hartman asserts this by stating that, the distinction, however, is significant for tax law compliance and categorization, for benefit plans, for cost reduction plans, and for discrimination claims (Bennett Alexander, Hartman, 2012). Gender Specific Role In Forging Groups From the time that fully modern humans emerged about 100,00 years ago up until approximately 12,000 years ago, societies of humans practiced foraging as a means for their survival. This period in which foraging was predominant is known as the pre complexity period. In the traditional sense, anthropologists classify complex societies as those that are sedentary and practice farming instead of foraging. The traditional classification of a sedentary, agrarian society as complex is imperfect because it discounts the societal complexities found within foraging bands. While these societies are sometimes portrayed as primitive without culture, they actually have an egalitarian social structure with language, religion, and a vast knowledge of the landscape in which they lived. The !Kung people of southern Africa, for example, were able to identify close to 90 different plant species and utilize them in their diet. • 27. The Invention Of Inkjet Printing The concept of inkjet printing originated in the 20th century, and the technology was first extensively developed in the early 1950s. Starting in the late 1970s inkjet printers that could reproduce digital images generated by computers were developed, mainly by Epson, Hewlett Packard (HP), and Canon. Although inkjet printers only appeared on the consumer market in the late 1980s, they had been under development for more than twenty years by that time. In the mid 1970s, printer companies realized the potential of the technology that would make dot matrix printers obsolete. The challenge, however, was to come up with a way to create an affordable inkjet printer that would reliably create high quality print outs .In the worldwide consumer market, four manufacturers account for the majority of inkjet printer sales: Canon, HP, Epson, and Lexmark, a 1991 spin off from IBM.[1]( IBM Archives: 1990s . 03.ibm.com. The first patent on the idea is from 1867, by William Thomson. The first commercial model was introduced in 1951 by Siemens. In continuous ink jet technology, a high pressure pump directs liquid ink from a reservoir through a microscopic nozzle, creating a continuous stream of ink droplets. • 29. Immigration Policy And Foreign Policy Immigration policy and foreign policy are in many ways interlinked, as they are often used to meet goals in one another s policy areas. Together, they are used to enhance the safety of our citizens, making this topic particularly important. Immigration is specifically linked to our foreign policy efforts with underdeveloped countries (Keely 1978). To fully understand one policy area, you must understand aspects of the other. Thus, one should consider these relationships when analyzing and evaluating Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump s policies on immigration reform. Immigration policy can often be used as a tool for foreign policy goals. This usually occurs when national safety is threatened, and it is sparked by merely the perception that immigration and terrorism are linked. Many believe that terrorists can enter our country by manipulating Immigration laws such as refugee asylums, which leads to stricter immigration policy to better secure our national safety (Franzblau 1997, 4 11). Even now, the Republican Nominee for President of the United States, Donald Trump, makes statements like, our immigration system is being used to attack us (Hensch 2015). Regardless of the truth value behind his statement, it is relevant to note that the notion itself by such an important political figure could create a push for stricter immigration policy. Higher levels of education for women b. Higher unemployment rates for women c. Higher average pay levels for women d. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to work outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women s education level increases, so does the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. Pain is defined as a complex, multidimensional phenomenon that originates from sensory stimuli, which has obvious motivation affective properties, demands attention, disrupts thought and behavior and results in activity aimed to stop the pain (Blanchard, 2010). Managing pain in the acute care setting has become one of the greatest challenges nurses and healthcare providers face. Unsatisfactorily managed pain can contribute to several adverse outcomes for hospitalized patients including reduced mobility, stimulation of unhealthy stress response, infection, creates barriers, and additional complications. As pain treatment becomes more aggressive, so too does our attention to reassessment of pain after intervention to ensure both safe and effective pain management (Gordon, 2014). In 1992, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research provided guidelines for the management of acute postoperative pain. The goals of the pain management guidelines are to reduce pain, complications, and length of hospital stay, to educate patients in communicating unrelieved pain; and to enhance patient satisfaction with pain management practices (Good, 1998). From these guidelines, Marion Good, PhD, RN, helped develop a middle range theory for Acute Pain Management for adults who can learn, set goals, and communicate symptoms.
