Spinach Photosynthesis Lab Report
We measured the rate of photosynthesis in this lab. By exposing spinach leaves to light, we were
triggering photosynthesis to start. Photons from the light excite electrons in the accessory pigments
in the leaves which then causes them to eventually transfer their energy to the chlorophyll a
molecule in the reaction center which causes an electron to jump to a primary electron acceptor,
thus moving the energy along. When this electron jumps, the photolysis of water occurs in order
fill the electron hole in the chlorophyll a molecules. H2O splits into electrons, H+ ions, and oxygen.
Therefore measuring the percentage of O2 in the container will be measuring the rate of
photosynthesis. As there was no increase in the amount of O2, this would... Show more content on

For this lab, we used blue and red filters over the lights which, when measured, ended up having a
maximum emission for the blue filter of 491 nm while the red was 667 nm. Most red
wavelengths have a wavelength of 622 to 780 nm while blue wavelengths range from 455 to 492
nm ( Wavelength ). Moreover, spinach photosynthetic pigment absorbed light optimally between
wavelengths of 400 nm and 450 nm and also at 650 nm (Lederer). This means that the blue
wavelengths (being at 491 nm) were 41 nm higher that the optimally absorbed wavelengths. On
the other hand, the red wavelengths of the filter were only 17 nm over 650 nm and therefore were
much closer to the optimal absorbed light. The shorter distance between the red wavelengths
shows that the red filter was closest to the wavelength that spinach would get the most out of. The
blue wavelength was too far off from the optimal wavelength so it did not do as much for its
spinach leaves. This is why the red wavelengths may have increased the rate of photosynthesis over
the blue

A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For...
First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words,
but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or
development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the
inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the
other hand, Microevolutionalludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of
a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor.
According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level.
So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require
that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its
position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in
development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of
blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a
gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro
evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. Rather, we reproduce the
historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation: geography, fossils, and living beings.
Once we ve made sense of what transformative occasions have occurred, we

Police Misconduct And Criminal Justice
Introduction Police executives have always had different issues within the police department.
Most police executives try to find a quick fix in order to solve the issue of police misconduct.
Police misconduct is defined as inappropriate action taken by police officers in relation with their
official duties (PoliceMisconduct Law Legal Definition, n.d.). In order to solve this issue, one must
acknowledge their different challenges, overcome the code of silence , and find out the role of
organizational culture.
Challenges Facing Police Executives There are many challenges facing the police executives in
the 21st century, such as civil disorder and criminal prosecution of officers. In recent years there
have been quite a few civil disorders. A civil disorder is a situation in which some citizens
behave in a way that threatens the wellbeing of other citizens or the peace of a community
(Cambridge Dictionaries, 2016). In the past seven years there has been a quite a few civil
disorders in the United States, such as the 2016 Donald Trump Chicago rally protest, the 2014
protest in Ferguson, Missouri, and the protests in New York, New York and Berkeley California
after a grand jury did not indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner. Due to the causes of
some of these protests, the public have a distrust and lack of confidence in the law and the legal
system (Tyler, 2013). As a police executive, one would have to make decisions in hopes not only to

Fear During The Cold War
The Cold War (1941 91) was a time of political and military tension between Soviet Russia and the
United States. During this time, there was a great deal of fear between the 2 international
superpowers as they both possessed nuclear weapons capable of wiping each other out. The
Americans were in constant fear of Communismand Soviet spies. The paranoia was exacerbated by
some politicians who suggested that Soviet spies were everywhere. This fear made some
Americans to accuse their own neighbors of being Communist sympathizers.

Orwell s Use Of The Phonetic Alphabet In The Military...
The military, as a whole, has a countless number of sayings, slogans and acronyms for every, single
aspect of military life. Consequently, it feels like learning a new language to those newly
indoctrinated members of this culture; being required to learn a new alphabet, the phonetic
alphabet, reinforces this feeling. While the mastery of this languageis slow and arduous, there is a
larger purpose behind it. To protect its service members as well as its assets, the military needs
every part to run smoothly and efficiently. Accordingly, they have crafted a language, and an
alphabet, after George Orwell s heart: one that leaves nothing up to interpretation, one which is
terse, and builds a clear and consistent picture of the point being made. Admittedly, when
someone in the military attempts to spell a word using the phonetic alphabet, it goes against
Orwell s second rule: Never use a long word where a short one will do, (519). Instead of spelling K
I F E R, the spelling of my name becomes, Kilo, India, Foxtrot, Echo, Romeo; obviously, this takes
longer and would not be considered efficient Orwell.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people, at one point or another, have been on the phone with someone, trying to spell out a
word or a code, and had a hard time hearing what one of the letters was. Perhaps the person on the
other end said something along the lines of, its b as in bog; however, to the person listening, the
b as in bog sounds a lot like d as in dog. To make matters worse, different people use different
words to explain what letter they are taking about in these types of situation. The military evades
such a problem by making one, uniform series of words to express every letter and number. This
builds a consistency which allows soldiers to focus on the real problems at hand, instead of trying
to decipher what some random word

Health Care Delivery System Essay
The health care delivery system in U.S. has multiple components that enable people to receive
health care. It is unique and not simple system with decentralized group of health care services that
are sometimes lack of coordination, standardization, and planning. Also the system has overpriced
services, multiple insurers, selective access, and imperfect market. These are outcomes of lack a
single national entity or set of policies guiding the health care system. Often happens that doctors
and hospitals who practicing in the same community and caring for the same patients are not
connected to each other. The U.S. current healthcare payment model it is a mix of private insurers
and public programs where each have own set of rules and payment algorithms that brings problem

Catholic Religion Research Paper
Coming from an Eastern Orthodox Church, I had very little knowledge of Catholicism. I decided
to take Basics of Catholic Faith course in order to have an understanding of the Catholic Church
and their teachings. In today s world, there are many religions that teach different aspects of God.
Catholic teachings offer a lot of moral and spiritual guidance that other Churches narrows down.
Catholic Churchsays Jesus is good news, and Catholic faith means graciously accepting that good
news and sharing it with others. This base idea of Catholicism is what people might get, that they
can t get from anywhere else.
The concept of Thin places really stood out during the course. The idea of a place that is borderline

Holy Communion, Baptism, Confession etc., are the times we feel closer to God s presence,
therefore; Sacraments are like thin places, are there to remind us of God. Brothers and sisters,
let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries is how
the Eucharistic liturgy starts, which is basically taking us into a thin place. These ceremonies
and sacraments take us way closer to God and help us enter into a sacred mystery where we
encounter Christ. Every sacrament is a window through which the light of Christ can shine into
our darkness and through these, Christ comes into our lives. After learning about this in lecture,
and having a better understanding of thin places , I am able to feel God s presence more while
taking Holy Communion, which I would gladly say I am that person who walks into Church,
feeling God s presence by entering onto the Holy ground. I feel a connection so strong at that
place that I never felt anywhere else. I feel like God is listening whenever I am there. I get a
serene feeling that renews my faith that we are indeed connected to God and such places do help
us feel that. Everybody has a thin place that they may recognize or not, but those places do bring
in a form of grace and peace. God is not distant from us, but it is our view that helps us realize

Chelow Kebab History
The Persian Empire fell in the year 330 BCE due to the invasion of Alexander III of Macedon
(Metropolitan Museum of Art). During this the Greeks controlled the Persian lands, this was
known as the Seleucid dynasty. After the Seleucid dynasty there were many dynasties that
controlled Persia. During the year 633 654 AD Muslims started attacking the Sassanid Empire and
took back control of Iran, this was known as the Muslim conquest or the Arab conquest of Iran.
Modern day Iran is divided into 31 provinces (Statoids). These 31 provinces are combined into 5
regions of Iran. These 5 regions are Tehran (middle northern region), Esfahan (middle southern
region), Tabriz (northwest region), Kermanshah (western region), and Mashhad (eastern region)....

Ghormeh is originally a Turkish word; this dish is from the region of Tabriz, which is next to

The Case For Investment Into Art And The Development Of...
2.1 Art Index and Methodology The case for investment into art and the development of art indices
has been at the forefront of the evolution of investing into alternative assets. Databases, indices, and
market reports are now essential analytical tools with which art investors can assess financial
performance. Over the past few decades, researchers have used different methodologies to calculate
the financial returns on art investments, based on public auction records.
2.1.1 General Review There are four main methodologies for producing art price indices. Average
prices, geometric means, repeat sales and hedonic regressions. The first significant study was by
Stein (1977), who analyzes the financial return of auctioned paintings in USA and Britain for the
period of 1946 68 by using the average prices methods. Stein considered the auctioned objects each
year as a random sample of the underlying stock of art and constructs an index based on the yearly
average transaction price. Baumol (1986) and Frey and Pommerehne (1989) calculate the geometric
mean return on works that sold at least twice during the considered time frame. Baumol constructs a
data set of transaction prices of the best known art works from 1652 to 1961 in London by using
geometric mean method. Revisiting Baumol s study, Frey and Pommerehne enlarge the data set by
extending the time period to 1987 and including auction sales from European countries. However,
these two methods do not enable the construction

Government does not have My College s Back
Last week, while having my morning coffee, I overheard a conversation between a college
lecturer and a well known secretary in The Ministry of Finance. I was about to return upstairs in
my office when I observed the secretary pushed forward, looking the lecturer directly in her eyes
emphatically and aggressively said, You academics just don t get it...the government aint gat no
money to take care no university. I relaxed in my seat as the conversation between the two raged on.
This same discussion is but a fragment of a national discussion that has been ongoing in this
country for many years, and the debate is whether or not The Bahamasis economically, financially
and socially developed enough to maintaina university. This situation has become a worrying
problem indeed.According to her article, We Do Not Need A University , Ms. Pam Burnside
discusses the issue of The Bahamas being a small independent nation who wants to ameliorate its
tertiary level institution with inadequate financial resources. She further explains that the Bahamas
is too greedy and is ashamed of the College that we already have in existence. In addition, she
argues that The Bahamas does not need a university and simply cannot afford it. In response to
Burnside s arguments, I most certainly agree with her. The College of The Bahamas is not well
equipped to become a university as it lacks a few vital components that need to be addressed
urgently: Financial resources,Infrastructure and Staffing.

Atrium Fire Rate
Yi, Huo, Li and Feng Chow [13] study the relationship between the time when flooding flow of
smoke occurs and the aspect ratio of atrium under different heat release rate (HRR) of fire,32
simulations were carried out using a field model, FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator, Version 3). The
size of the atrium and HRR of steady fire are listed in Table (2 4). In all the simulations, the size of
the fire room was set at 3 m Г— 3 m Г— 3 m, the fire was located at the center of the floor of the
fire room, the height of atrium was 27 m. The vents in the fire floor were both 2 m Г— 1.5 m with
sill at 1 m above the floor. The ambient temperature is 20 oC.
Fig. (2 8) shows the situation of early stage when a fire occurs in an adjacent floor to an atrium.
The fire floor has two vertical vents (WA and WB) open to outside and the atrium respectively. The
ceiling of the atrium is open, and it is supposed that the isolation between the atrium and the other
floors is ideal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The velocity profile at the vents is simply shown in Fig. 1. At the top of the vents, because the
smoke in the fire floor is lighter than the air in the atrium and outside, pressure difference between
the fire floor and outside (atrium as the same) is larger than at the lower place of the vents. At the
bottom of the vents, the pressure difference gets negative to that at the top. So there should be a

Biosphere Project
During our biosphere project, some things went well, like having soil from the ground, and
others made it worse. I hope our findings will be useful in the biosphere you re about to start.
One thing that I would definitely suggest doing is planting grass seeds as well as other plants.
This will help to produce more oxygen, give a more realistic environment to your animals, and
take more carbon dioxide out of the air. Just in case your plants die, the grass can keep your
biosphere alive for a little longer. If you can find any worms, you should put them in your
biosphere because they help decompose dead organisms, and they produce carbon dioxide for the
plants. I also recommend not having a pond, but using a spray bottle instead. Animals can drown in

This negotiation, which occurred in 2005, was regarding the sale of Neiman Marcus Group
(Neiman) and joint corporate agency comprising of 2 large private equity firms namely Texas
Pacific Group (TPG) and Warburg Pincus (Warburg). It is potent to note that at the time of the said

It was highlighted by Howard Raiffa that there are certain organising questions that need to be

proposed that the primary question to be answered is in regards to the number of individuals or
group of individuals involved, i.e the size and the presence or absence of internal conflicts in the
groups.
As mentioned above, the key parties involved are Neiman, TPG, Warburg, their respective lawyers
as well as Neiman s banker, Goldman Sachs.

Smallwood s Middle Passage
Smallwood s, like Taylor s, qualitative analysis is based on white sources as none where written
by the slaves themselves. However, Smallwood is able to get over this hurdle by comparing her
archival findings with the cultural, social, and political features of the societies of the Gold
Coast. Interestingly, Smallwood relates the experience of the Middle Passage with African
cultural notions of cosmology and funeral rights and rituals. Her approach is refreshing as she is
not simply interested in the quantity of slaves brought to market through the middle passage, but
rather, she is interested in the experience of the middle passage and how that experience turned
Africans into slaves. Smallwood s goal is to bring the people aboard slave ships to life as
subjects in American social history. Her goal is one of agency, and is an important and critical
goal of any social history. Smallwood traces the transformation, step by step, of Africans to slaves.
The human being is central to this transformation. As the reader moves through the book the reader
slowly sees captive Africans being molded into slaves. Though Smallwood seeks to show agency...

The Importance Of Masculinity
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning
small battles with honor, (Norman Mailer). Masculinity holds a different meaning for everybody.
For some people it means being a male, but for others it holds a deeper meaning. For example, my
dad believes that in order to have masculinityhe must be able to fix everything. He takes on tasks
having to do with landscaping, plumbing, lighting, and even interior design; most of the time, he
says something along the lines of I can fix that in a minute or I ve just got to go get the supplies.
He then waits until my mom gets a professional to come do the task, and he claims that we did not
give him enough time to get it done. My dad, along with my other malefriends, feels that since he
is a male he needs to prove his masculinity by putting on the act of a handyman. My father went
to school at Johnson and Wales University for a degree in criminal justice. Getting a bachelor s
degree in criminal justice does not teach one how to fix the caulk in a bathtub; in spite of that,
my father attempted this task. A couple of weeks ago, I realized that the caulk in my shower had
begun to deteriorate. I informed my dad that I thought it needed to be repaired and suggested he

On November 5, the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Devin Patrick Kelley shot
at the church. The shooting killed at least 26 people, with many more wounded.
Kelley fired from the outside and hit two people. He then travelled around to the side and entered,
still shooting. He was wearing black tactical gear, a ballistic vest and extra rounds of ammunition.
The shooter was armed with a rifle.
As he left the church, an armed neighbor returned fire. Consequently, Kelley was hit, causing
slight injury. The neighbor proceeded to shoot after Kelley as he jumped in his car and speedily
drove away. The police chased him until he crashed his vehicle, and was found dead in his vehicle

Freudian Psychoanalysis As The Forerunner Of All...
Reading response 3
Jones and Butman (2012) view psychoanalysis as the forerunner of all psychotherapeutic methods.
Freudian psychoanalysis theorizes that all human behavior is influenced by early childhood
experiences. Freud argues that human behavior is mostly unconscious and driven by conflicting
desires, feelings, fears, and motives. The goal of psychoanalysis is to resolve intrapsychic conflict
by bringing into conscious awareness the unconscious desires and motives of an individual.
Through free association, the unconscious is made conscious, and unresolved conflict or anxiety is
resolved. Psychoanalysis also seeks to challenge self defeating coping methods or defense
mechanisms and aims to replace the negative coping methods with more effective coping
mechanism (Jones Butman, 2012) Freud s model of personality posits that:
1.There are three levels of consciousness: the conscious experiences, the preconscious experiences,
and unconscious experiences, however, all behavior is determined by unconscious experiences.
2.Human Behavior is determined by past unresolved events from childhood.
3.Human behavior is determined by the interaction of sexual and aggressive drives.
4.Personality is structured in terms the id, ego and superego. The id is pleasure driven, and seeks
to satisfy its needs. The ego is reality based and fulfills the wishes and demands of the id in the
outside world. The superego, a split off from the ego, characterizes internalized values and moral

Irving Berlin Contributions
Irving Berlin made important contributions to musicals and music writing. After his background
information is provided, the prior sentence will be proven by using examples of the songs he
made as a freelance songwriter, a songwriter for Broadway musical productions , and Hollywood
Musical productions, the popularity of the songs, and the awards.
Israel Berlin who we now know as Irving Berlin, was born May 11th, Eighteen 1888, in the town
of Tyumen, a Siberian city in Russia. He was the one out of eight children. His father, Moses
Baline, was a Cantor in the Jewish Synagogue, and his mother was Lena Lipkin Baline During the
time he lived in Russia, he and his family were treated terribly, for the fact that Russia was at that
time attacking the Jews and the Jewish community. The only thing he remembered about Russia
was when an Anti Semitic group burned down his house, and he sat in front of his house all night
watching it burn. In circa 1883 his family moved to Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United
States of America via Ellis Island. Everyone in his family regardless of age, except for practical
reasons such as an infant, had to work. Although his family was very poor, he did not seem to
notice. His father was a very strict Jew and would punish his children with beatings even for as
simple of a reason as taking their shoes off in an unorthodox way. He worked odd jobs until he was
eight years of age, when his father died, he became a street singer while doubling as

Louisiana Chemicals Affect Human Health
Louisiana Chemicals: Sources and Human Health
Piers A. Cropp
Lynn University
Following the industrial revolution, societies across the world began to notice strange effects on
individuals throughout certain local communities. Though toxicology was a relatively new and
rudimentary practice at the time, scientists were able to trace these effects back to chemicals being
exposed to industrial workers, their families, and nearby neighborhoods. Unfortunately, industry in
the United States continued to expand with little regard for the effects on human health. As a result
from this expansion the amount of chemicals released into the atmosphere skyrocketed
continuously all the way to present day society. However, as industry expanded so did scientific
technology, the understanding of chemicals, their exposure ... Show more content on

Ammonia inhalation causes upper respiratory irritation. In a study conducted in 1973, four of
six participants admitted to experiencing irritation of the nose and eyes after an exposure to 50
ppm of ammonia for 10 minutes. Thirty percent of the participants described nose, eye, and
throat irritation at an exposure of 75 ppm for 5 minutes. However, low occupational exposure
over a period of about fourteen years showed no effect on pulmonary function. However, rare
cases of high concentrated exposure show sever effects. For example, around 1989 an adult male
was found unconscious next to a ruptured pipeline carrying liquid ammonia. He suffered burns on
his eyes as well as his skin, and experienced difficulty breathing. Throughout the following month,
he suffered from cases of complete circulatory collapse (which he was resuscitated from) and
eventually died from cardiac arrest. Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia (2,500 ppm) can
potentially lead to cardiovascular problems including: elevated pulse, rise in blood pressure, and

Differences Between The Plefuans And The Patricians
Today for your review, a discussion of the economic and political differences between the patricians
and the plebeians and an examination of the results of the first revolt.
According to Morey, (1901), in such an ironic conclusion, the plebeians had consolidated with
the patricians to overthrow the kings that were in power, and together were successful in this
affiliation. However, while the patricians were awarded lands and gained more power after the
kings were overthrown, there were disastrous results for the plebeians. There are many things that
lead to the revolt, first, while the plebeians had the right to vote, they could not hold a political
office, or sit in the Senate. The rule of the patricians proved to be as oppressive as the kingship
had and the struggle began in earnest between the two classes. Second to add insult to injury the
plebeians were even worse off monetarily.
Not only were there great economic hardships, but the human suffering was just as great, most of
the plebeians lived outside the city walls, with their home and families vulnerable, and while the
plebeian men were away serving their country, fighting in the war, their families were left
unprotected and many had suffered greatly at the hands of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Music Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock s iconic film Psycho is one of the best horror movies in history. It is famous as
well as notorious even with today s high standards. The movie is about a secretary, Marion, who
embezzles $40,00 from a client of her employer. She goes on the run and ends up staying at a very
remote and creepy hotel. There she meets Norman Bates, a man who seems to be under a lot of
control of his mother. Marion ends up being murdered in the famous shower scene by Norman s
mother, however, at the end we end up finding out that the mother was actually Norman who had
developed a double personality of his mother. While this movie s story and plot are outstanding
to stay the least, the movie s success also had a lot to do with the sound used within in key
scenes. The sound also helped play a major role in the movie s themes, which I believe to fear, and
guilt.
I think that the music used in throughout the film corresponded with the theme overall in some
way, shape or form. Even at the very beginning of the film, before any scenes take place, we are
given suspenseful music. This is used to convey the over arching theme to the audience right away
to make it obvious that this is the way that they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To do this they used quick sharper notes and sudden changes in pace and key of the music.
However, once the car takes a different turn, the music stops and the audience is relieved. Another
example, is again when Marion is driving, she is remembering back to the crime that she
committed. In this scene it is obvious that Marion feels very guilty, and the music playing in the

Abstract
I will be evaluating the guest services department at the Hilton Garden Inn in Charlotte, NC. The
hotel is part of a much larger Hilton family that is quite successful, but this particular property is
suffering from lower guest satisfaction scores, several recent management changes and the resulting
low employee morale. The new guest services manager expects that once the new management both
in guest services and the hotel overall gets settled, the low morale and slipping guest satisfaction
scores can be assuaged by using specialized customer service training. This analysis will follow the
progress of the Guest Services Team ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Person analysis
There are three full time and three part time members of the Guest Services department. Each of the
full time staff members have been with the company more than two years. The three part time
employees have all been with the company for one year or less with two of the front desk agents
having joined the company within the last two months. While the two newest hires have not
become entirely confident in their positions, the need for overall customer service training would
certainly benefit the department as a whole. Low morale has also been an issue for the department
with employees often complaining about long hours, improper staffing for busy shifts, and
recurring difficulties addressing customer complaints.
Task Analysis
Front Desk agents are responsible for greeting guests and conducting the check in and check out
process. The Guest Services department is the most prominent customer facing position in the
organization as the staff is also responsible for nearly all customer service interactions including,
but not limited to: setting wake up calls, taking room service order, providing suggestions and
directions to local attractions and amenities, fielding customer complaints, and taking reservations.
The individuals that serve in this capacity need to be adept communicators equipped with an

The Mind Is An Amazing Place
The mind is an amazing place. It s incredibly adaptable and incredibly complex. The study of
psychology aims to help us understand the the complexity of the brain. To help understand the
behavior and mind and to assist in embracing all aspects of conscious and unconscious experience.
And while we aim to categorize and understand all aspects of the mind, it seems that we end up
highlight complex, fascinating and uniquely different each individual s mind works. One of the
unique ways we ve categorized the way our brainprocesses information is through senses. We ll
take a look at each sensein the coming paragraphs.
The ability to detect and interpret the events that are occurring around us allows us to respond to
these stimuli appropriately (Gibson Pick, 2000). The human brain has a large capacity to interpret
information through sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. One of the examples in chapter 4 of
our book talks about our capacities for sense is like a kaleidoscope. In in a perfect scenario all
senses work together in a beautiful medley.
Take the following excerpt for example:
In many ways our senses are quite remarkable. The human eye can detect the equivalent of a single
candle flame burning 30 miles away and can distinguish among more than 300,000 different colors.
The human ear can detect sounds as low as 20 hertz (vibrations per second) and as high as 20,000
hertz, and it can hear the tick of a clock about 20 feet away in a quiet room. We can taste a

This fear was indicative of national health agencies and representatives failure to communicate
the low risk of transmission. Ebola is only communicable through direct contact with bodily
fluids after a person has begun to display symptoms, the first of which is often a fever ( Ethics
and Ebola: Public Health Planning and Response , 14 15). However, even at the start of
symptom expression, people are unlikely to transmit the disease; virion count is so low during
the first couple days after the onset of fever that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for
Ebola often returns false negatives during this period (Drazen 1). Thomas Eric Duncan, the first
case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil, is a prime example of the virus s low transmission rate at the
onset of symptoms. His family, whom he lived in close quarters with for several days while
symptomatic, never contracted the disease, whereas the nurses caring for him towards the end of
his life when his virion count was high, did. Moreover, the level of the health infrastructure and
equipment that is available in the United States is drastically better staffed, trained, and equipped
than in West Africa. When a patient begins exhibiting symptoms here, they can be quickly isolated,
which was not possible in Liberia. The lack of any public health authorities to monitor cases of the

The Path Of Becoming An Orthopedic Surgeon
The Path to Becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon
Introduction
Obtaining a degree in medicine is one of the lengthiest educational paths one can choose to take.
Choosing to become a surgeon lengthens that journey even more and it is one of the most
challenging degrees to obtain. An orthopedic surgeon is a physician that focuses on the diagnosis,
care, and treatment of patients with disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons,
nerves, and skin. ( Career in Orthopaedics ). Throughout treatment in these areas, they use medical,
physical, and rehabilitative methods as well as surgery ( Career in Orthopaedics ). Despite being
branded surgeons only about 50% of their everyday job description involves surgical aspects or
procedures ( Career in Orthopaedics ). Dr. Brian J. Cole ( Interview with an Orthopedic Surgeon)

My position: I am in disagreement with this statement and my analysis, based on contextual
evidence, is as follows:
Although I could argue the question posited above from either position, as many have done before
and, as many will continue to do after me, I do not believe that Socrates waivers in his beliefs

To further bolster his position, Socrates does not fail to point out to the jury that these other men
are applauded for doing such service to the city of Athens when he states, Each of these men can
go to any city and persuade the young, who can keep company with any one of their own fellow
citizens they want without paying.......pay them a fee, and be grateful to them besides (Apology
19e 20a). Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been
accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up
charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d).

side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the
above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my
belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in

against him regarding his proported atheism but summarily solidifies his position as one who
clearly is concerned with obeying the law. In this passage he states, Even so, let the matter

Similarities Between Theatre And Hospitality Industry
Comparing theatre and the hospitality industry is like comparing apples and oranges they have a
surprising amount of similarities while retaining their own individual characteristics. Theatre is the
art of performing on stage. Employees have a wide range of skills in order to produce a
performance that guests will enjoy. On the opposite side of the spectrum, hospitality involves
restaurant and hotelmanagement, event planning, and tourism. Much of the industry is centered
around providing the best experience possible for customers, as is theatre. While hospitality
workers are not actors or crew members, employees in both industries strive to provide the best
experience for their guests. Both theatre and hospitality offer intangible goodsand services, require
a great amount of practice outside of the classroom, and put an emphasis on design. Theatre and

Examples Of Rebirth In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
The Rebirth of a New Man:
A Journey of Hope among the Contradictions Inherent in Human Nature.
A man and a child, father and son, are alone against an inclement nature while pushing a cart filled
with tools, blankets, and things that they have found along the way to the south. About ten years
before the world had been reduced to ashes by an apocalyptic disaster, which it is not known
whether it was caused by a natural event or the foolishness of human beings. The world is reduced
to a single color, gray, that of the ashes covering all that is left, that of hearts and minds, clouded
by the pain of the loss and the terror of solitude. All that is left of the humankind is a few tenacious
survivors struggling unceasingly against hunger and cold, and those who have lost any trace of
humanity giving free vent to the lowest instincts of oppression and violence. But in the novel The
Road, Cormac McCarthy paints a vivid and dramatic picture of the catastrophic consequences of a
cataclysm that are nothing more than an excuse to minimize the outer contingencies with the sole
purpose to bring up what is really dear to his heart, the relationship between a father and a son.
They have been deliberately left unnamed for the whole story to epitomize the archetypes of the
man and the child, a hymn to paternity, and to unconditional love. In a world reduced to the
essentials, McCarthy aims not merely to explore the complexities of the relationship between the
two, which in fact remains

along with the peoples who believed them. As archaeologists search the past for a better history of

Christianity began in what was the Roman Empire. Largely ignored by the masses, it was a
small monotheistic cult in a polytheistic society. The simplicity of it quickly attracted converts
(Veyne 525). Where once they only had Roman idols, a new one was added, that of Jesus Christ.
It is not to say that they simply quit believing in the Gods and Goddesses that had safeguarded
their crops, homes and families, only that this God offering salvation was added (Veyne 545).
Popular society saw a world under control of demons, and to ensure their safety they worshiped a
variety of Gods and Goddesses (Veyne 396). As the cult spread, new beliefs were added. These
include the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of Jesus, the belief in one God (Noss 636).
The rapid growth of Christianity caused alarm in many people. Between 195 and 212, Christians
were sporadically persecuted. After 212, persecution slowed, and they were allowed to exist (Frend
294). A major force in the popularization of Christianity was when Constantine converted.
Constantine, a late Roman Emperor, discontinued the policy outlawing Christianity, and made it an
acceptable religion in the Roman Empire (Frend 294). Christianity spread when the clergy
canonized saints, building temples and altering rituals to match those in the Roman Empire.

The Giver Right
I do believe that Jonas did the right thing at the end of The Giver. The releasing of the memories
was very important in reshaping the Community and his actions also saved Gabriel who was about
to be released, or killed. Leaving the Community was necessary to release the memories and there
have been many examples in the Bibleof people leaving their homelands to fulfill a promise or
prophecy.
Once Jonas crossed the boundary into Elsewhere, all of his memories were given back to the
Community. These included his memories of color, snow, sun, and others. With those good
memories, however, came bad memories as well. These were memories of war, hunger, loss, and
pain. Bad memories are not meant to be locked away forever. Instead, they should be ... Show more

He did seem hesitant to do so at first. However, he realized what staying behind would cause, so
he went along with his plan. If he stayed behind, Gabriel would have been murdered, the people
of the Community would have never been able to experience and learn from the memories, and
Jonas would spend his entire life longing for the true feelings of love. There were many people
in the Bible who had to leave there homes behind for the good of them and those around them.
For example, God told Abraham to leave his home and find the land God had promised him. The
details of his journey are shown in Genesis 12. When he arrived in the land, which was near
Canaan, God said that He would give all of the land to his offspring and bless Abraham and those
who bless him.
While I can see how Jonas s actions could be seen as hasty, I also see the good that came from
those actions. Now that he has escaped, the memories have been released and now everyone can
experience what Jonas has experienced and learn from it. Gabriel is safe and free with Jonas and,
even though he was hesitant, I still see the good that came from Jonas leaving the Community. His
actions have greatly benefitted both him and Gabriel and all of those who live in the

whereby we inflate the value of the wrongs we suffer, and minimize the value of those we
ourselves inflict. (Santa Barbara 179). Luckily, there are nations such as Canada, with politicians
like Lloyd Axworthy, who created the Canadian peace building initiative in 1996. The initiative
suggested a concern for the multidimensional and integrated causes of civil war and thus
acknowledged the need to address the economic, social, and political aspects of reconstruction and
reconciliation (Keating 171). Michael R. Marrus argues that there are four contexts that need to be
addressed when trying to develop a strategy for reconciliation. These are political, legal, material,
and cultural. These different areas of concern

Concussions In Football, Footballs And Concussions In The NFL
To entice fans, the NFL implements multiple fantasy football leagues, the NFL Red Zone and
video games such as Madden. This brings a substantial amount of support to the NFL because
they allow the fans to feel like they are a real part of the game and not just part of the audience.
Due to this, the NFL season is made to be one of the most anticipated times of the year for
players, coaches, and especially fans. Sundays are dedicated to football in most American
households. So, it is no surprise that if one player takes a hard hit it is often over looked. In the
2015 football season the total number of reported concussions was 271. This is almost a 32%
increase from the previous year with only 206 reported concussions (Seifert). These numbers do not
account for all the concussions that go unreported and most concussions from this sport go
unreported. Any trauma to the braincan be harmful, but repeated concussions, like those that occur
in the NFL, and concussions without treatment make the symptoms worse. Most NFL players are
suffering but not a lot is being done about it.
News broadcasting stations used to accentuate the violence of the NFL and allowed anyone who
watched their shows to relive the hard hits players took weeks after they happened. [I]n the 1990s,
the ABC network opened its Monday Night Football broadcast with a montage that concluded with
two helmets smashing against each other and bursting into sparks. Turner Network Television
(TNT) promoted its first NFL

The Tragedy Of The Red Tails
Films do not simply give someone words and ask them to create a world of their own; films
offer a complete other dimension that the viewer belongs to for a few brief hours. Without films
like Saving Private Ryan, society would not be able to experience the emotions of, in this case,
war, but the emotions of other people in general. Those who watched Milk for the first time
were suddenly smacked in the face by the reality of what it was like to stand up for their rights.
The audiences of Red Tails saw what it was like to get treated like you were less than someone
else, and how people needed to prove their worth to others. None of these films had anything to
do with events current from their times of release, but sometimes it is good to empathize with
our ancestors. Movies do not need to only ever show people being oppressed in order to connect
with an audience though, sometimes it is good to just allow people to feel raw emotions. Crash
addresses the oppressed by labeling everyone as oppressed and by also labeling everyone as the
oppressor, allowing the filmto truly connect to all audiences. Paul Haggis uses the film Crash to
portray what stereotypes people really think in, using the language as a vessel to take the audience
within their own subconscious.
In Paul Haggis 2004 film, Crash, he shows how closely seven completely different groups of
people, along with a few side groups, brush up in each other s lives. The tagline Things are not

A Summary Of Trauma
Devastating effects, harboring memories, mental and emotional distress lingered with a victim long
after the traumatic experience. Children can lose the ability to control their behaviors and emotions
due to traumatic triggers. Children who have experience trauma develop implicit memories. Robin
Grill (2003) described these memories as, What we don t remember with our minds, we remember
with our bodies, with or hearts and our guts with lasting implications for our thinking, feeling, and
behavior (p. 1). Many of these subconscious memories and feelings are difficult to put into words. It
is imperative for social workers and teachers to use nonverbal methods to communicate with
children and students of trauma. Many children do not have the appropriate vocabulary to articulate
feelings or describe traumatic events. Teachers can use art therapy as a method to communicate and

Teachers must become aware and address fulfilling a child s physiological and safety needs. The
next step is to use methods and techniques that allow children to open up, communicate, and
express themselves and their traumatic experiences. Past psychologists and therapists have used
art to explore the trauma of children, helped children discuss and deal with emotional distress,
and build rapport and empathy with patients (Kuban, 2015). Today, art is used as a tool for
assessing children s emotional, behavioral, and social development, as well as therapy to analyze

If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound? A Reader Oriented approach
to Edgar Alan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart The Titular question is an old philosophical riddle for
which a wide range of metaphysical and non metaphysical solution has been offered. The
answers differ based on the perspective of the interpreter. Judging these answers is neither
possible nor desirable for us, but the riddle and the ensuing debates attest to the veracity of one
of the most basic tenets of reader response theory: If a text does not have a reader, it does not
exist or at least, it has no meaning. It s reader, with whatever experience he brings to the text, who
gives it its meaning. Of particular significance is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator is a psychopath with wacky motivations. If we accept this convenient explanation
then we have to deal with another question: could a madman talks with such lucidity and
exactness? The answer that Ken Frieden gives to this question is a positive one. He downplays
the contrast between the sane narrative and mad narrator: The discrepancy between sane
narrator and madman perhaps shows the error of assuming that linguistic normalcy implies
psychological normalcy. Friedan took it for granted that the narrator is mad because he kills an
old man for no reason. He is doubly mad, Friedan said, when he imagines he hears the pounding
of the dead man s heart and gives away the crime he had concealed. Yet the narrator tells a
coherent tale, as if to demonstrate out of spite that he is sane, refuting the ordinary belief that he
must be mad. On the other side of the road, there are critics who are sympathetic toward the
narrator and dismiss any suggestion of madness. Daniel Hoffman, for instance is willing to
believe the narrator s claim about the Old man s eye. Hoffman reads the vulture like eye as a
Freudian Father Figure. He takes the old man as a father figure; whose Eye becomes the all seeing
surveillance of the child by the father. (Bloom 53) . This surveillance is, Hoffman writes, the

Advice To Youth Satire
Twain s Terrible Tips: Analytical Essay of Advice to Youth In Mark Twain s Advice to Youth he
is giving advice to the parents of children through satire. Though it may seem he is speaking
directly to the children, he uses horatian satire to address the parents and express what he believes
to be the problems of how they are raising their children. Children are being raised to always do
the right thing, though their parents know they will eventually make mistakes. Twain was trying to
change this approach in parenting. Instead of teaching children to be superior, the children should
be taught how to be a successful adult. All children are going to disobey, lie, and make mistakes.
Mark Twain s satirical approach is meant to show parents that children should be prepared to be an
adult, instead of having to learn everything the hard way. In Advice to Youth Twain uses techniques
like irony, reversal, and understatement to subtly hint that parenting needs to change. Irony is a
great tool to use, because it lightens the mood and brings humor into the story. By using irony,

It allows the writer to say the opposite of what the reader is expecting, and still getting their
point across. When convincing the reader, getting up in the mornings with a lark is the best,
Twain uses reversal. But a lark is really the best thing to get up with. It gives you a splendid
reputation with everybody to know that you get up with the lark; and if you get the right kind
of lark, and work at him right, you can easily train him to get up at half past nine, every time it s
no trick at all. Typically getting up with the lark means getting up very early in the morning, but
Twain reverses this belief by saying a person can train a lark to wake up much later. Reversal is a
great technique to use in this case, because the reader is not expecting the lark to be waking up so

Political Parties And The Republican Party Platform
Generally speaking, anyone who lives in the United States of America knows that there are two
main political parties the Republicans and the Democrats. Having two main parties has its
advantages and, of course, its disadvantages. For example, in By the People James E. Monroe
and Rogan Kersh (301) point out having this type of system creates predictability and stability.
However, they also declare (301) it can lead to a gridlock. This is not a new concept either as
there has been a divide since the beginning of both parties. The two parties more often than not
disagree on various issues, while rarely agreeing on what is best for the country.
Democrats and Republicans highly differ when comparing views on climate change. The
Democrats accept human role in climate change while many Republicans question if climate
change is even real. In the 2016 Democratic Party Platform (27), they state in the first 100 days of
the next administration, the president will convene a summit of the words best engineers, climate
scientists, policy experts, activists, and indigenous communities to chart a course to solve the
climate crisis. This is highlighted previously when President Obama, a Democrat, traveled to Paris
for a convention about climate change where he met other leaders around the world to make a plan
to help fix the issues surrounding climate change. This shows the basic principles of the Democratic
Party as internationalist and having the large government as it states in the

The two movies have two characters that have light vs dark. For example, the two characters on
Strangers on A Train, Bruno and Guy, are two men who are supposedly total opposites. This is
very similar to the two Charlies in Shadow of a Doubt. They share the same message, while both
of the characters in both stories are linked to the world of darkness and death. Just like Shadow of
a Doubt, there are two women wearing glasses and a pair of drinks that are doubles. In the
beginning of the story, it had its moments of doubling. It also shares the theme of psychological and
sexual pathologies, stated in The Art of Alfred Hitchcock. The idea of the Guy Bruno homosexual
engagement is daring for its time. This helps the narrative s broader reference of the theme of two
aspects of one personality. Guy didn t share the feelings Bruno had for Guy. Bruno came across as

To begin, opponents argue that mandated coverage infringes on religious freedom and conscience.
In 1809, Thomas Jefferson declared [no] provision in our Constitution ought to be dear to man than
that which protects rights of conscience against the enterprises of the civil authority (Fortenberry
2). Jefferson s statement suggests a contraception law leaves the rights of opponents at risk.
Furthermore, contrary to supporter s beliefs, critics contend that abortions would not be reduced
from the mandate. To support, executive director Greg Pfundstein, of the New York City pro life
organization Chiaroscuro Foundation, writes in the National Review that although contraceptives
were broadly available the 70s the out of wedlock birthrate has tripled and the number of abortions
had not decreased, ( Birth Control Funding: 5). This implies that opponents are not convinced by
proponent s proposal s. Finally, opponents emphasize that complete coverage is detrimental to
American ideals. The federal government crossed a line says republican congressman Jeff
Fortenberry, in an article criticizing the mandate, the affordable Care Act represents the flash point
of an ideological agenda that in no small measure threatens to undermine fundamental liberties that
have defined the essence of our national character, (1) . This statement suggests that many critics do
not wish to impact the status quo.

Final Three Crusades Essay
Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God.
The final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark

Catholic wars started to try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the
religion, the final three crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction.
The purpose of the research I have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper

The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions
during the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans
feeling the need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses,
many people abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in
the Middle East. Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of
the crusades failed or simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand
Christianity. The Crusades where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to
local Christians, which was part of the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades
however did leave some practices instilled in the later religions that where to be made. Through
these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted practices that are now influential in there
religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an interesting out look of how crusades
brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that maybe the crusades where not

Benefits Of Denying The Antecedent
What exactly is denying the Antecedent? It is a fallacy in formal logic where in a standard if/then
premise, the antecedent (what comes after the if ) is made not true, and then it is concludes that
the consequent (what comes after the then ) is not true. Denying the antecedent, sometimes also
called inverse error or fallacy of the inverse, is a formal fallacy of inferring the inverse from the
original statement. I choose this argument because I didn t know much about it, and I felt like I
could understand it more if I knew more about the different arguments. Arguments of this form are
invalid. Informally, this means that arguments of this form do not give good reason to establish
their conclusions, even if their premises are true. When I read about it in the text book it seemed
interesting to learn about, and this became the perfect opportunity to do so. I feel like this
assignment as giving a lot of clarification on understanding the differences in the arguments....

It doesn t bite. Therefore, it s not a shark. It is not that clear that a fallacy is being committed, but
because this is a formal argument following a strict form, even if the conclusion seems to be true,

cannot conclude with certainty that it isn t a shark. The arguer has committed a formal fallacy, and
the argument is invalid because the truth of the premises does not guarantee the truth of the
conclusion. The reason why I choose to do this argument because when I was reading this section

  • 2. Spinach Photosynthesis Lab Report We measured the rate of photosynthesis in this lab. By exposing spinach leaves to light, we were triggering photosynthesis to start. Photons from the light excite electrons in the accessory pigments in the leaves which then causes them to eventually transfer their energy to the chlorophyll a molecule in the reaction center which causes an electron to jump to a primary electron acceptor, thus moving the energy along. When this electron jumps, the photolysis of water occurs in order fill the electron hole in the chlorophyll a molecules. H2O splits into electrons, H+ ions, and oxygen. Therefore measuring the percentage of O2 in the container will be measuring the rate of photosynthesis. As there was no increase in the amount of O2, this would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this lab, we used blue and red filters over the lights which, when measured, ended up having a maximum emission for the blue filter of 491 nm while the red was 667 nm. Most red wavelengths have a wavelength of 622 to 780 nm while blue wavelengths range from 455 to 492 nm ( Wavelength ). Moreover, spinach photosynthetic pigment absorbed light optimally between wavelengths of 400 nm and 450 nm and also at 650 nm (Lederer). This means that the blue wavelengths (being at 491 nm) were 41 nm higher that the optimally absorbed wavelengths. On the other hand, the red wavelengths of the filter were only 17 nm over 650 nm and therefore were much closer to the optimal absorbed light. The shorter distance between the red wavelengths shows that the red filter was closest to the wavelength that spinach would get the most out of. The blue wavelength was too far off from the optimal wavelength so it did not do as much for its spinach leaves. This is why the red wavelengths may have increased the rate of photosynthesis over the blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For... First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words, but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the other hand, Microevolutionalludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor. According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level. So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. Rather, we reproduce the historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation: geography, fossils, and living beings. Once we ve made sense of what transformative occasions have occurred, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Orwell s Use Of The Phonetic Alphabet In The Military... The military, as a whole, has a countless number of sayings, slogans and acronyms for every, single aspect of military life. Consequently, it feels like learning a new language to those newly indoctrinated members of this culture; being required to learn a new alphabet, the phonetic alphabet, reinforces this feeling. While the mastery of this languageis slow and arduous, there is a larger purpose behind it. To protect its service members as well as its assets, the military needs every part to run smoothly and efficiently. Accordingly, they have crafted a language, and an alphabet, after George Orwell s heart: one that leaves nothing up to interpretation, one which is terse, and builds a clear and consistent picture of the point being made. Admittedly, when someone in the military attempts to spell a word using the phonetic alphabet, it goes against Orwell s second rule: Never use a long word where a short one will do, (519). Instead of spelling K I F E R, the spelling of my name becomes, Kilo, India, Foxtrot, Echo, Romeo; obviously, this takes longer and would not be considered efficient Orwell.... Most people, at one point or another, have been on the phone with someone, trying to spell out a word or a code, and had a hard time hearing what one of the letters was. Perhaps the person on the other end said something along the lines of, its b as in bog; however, to the person listening, the b as in bog sounds a lot like d as in dog. To make matters worse, different people use different words to explain what letter they are taking about in these types of situation. The military evades such a problem by making one, uniform series of words to express every letter and number. This builds a consistency which allows soldiers to focus on the real problems at hand, instead of trying to decipher what some random word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Catholic Religion Research Paper Coming from an Eastern Orthodox Church, I had very little knowledge of Catholicism. I decided to take Basics of Catholic Faith course in order to have an understanding of the Catholic Church and their teachings. In today s world, there are many religions that teach different aspects of God. Catholic teachings offer a lot of moral and spiritual guidance that other Churches narrows down. Catholic Churchsays Jesus is good news, and Catholic faith means graciously accepting that good news and sharing it with others. This base idea of Catholicism is what people might get, that they can t get from anywhere else. The concept of Thin places really stood out during the course. Holy Communion, Baptism, Confession etc., are the times we feel closer to God s presence, therefore; Sacraments are like thin places, are there to remind us of God. Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries is how the Eucharistic liturgy starts, which is basically taking us into a thin place. These ceremonies and sacraments take us way closer to God and help us enter into a sacred mystery where we encounter Christ. Every sacrament is a window through which the light of Christ can shine into our darkness and through these, Christ comes into our lives. After learning about this in lecture, and having a better understanding of thin places , I am able to feel God s presence more while taking Holy Communion, which I would gladly say I am that person who walks into Church, feeling God s presence by entering onto the Holy ground. I feel a connection so strong at that place that I never felt anywhere else. I feel like God is listening whenever I am there. I get a serene feeling that renews my faith that we are indeed connected to God and such places do help us feel that. Everybody has a thin place that they may recognize or not, but those places do bring in a form of grace and peace. God is not distant from us, but it is our view that helps us realize ... During the year 633 654 AD Muslims started attacking the Sassanid Empire and took back control of Iran, this was known as the Muslim conquest or the Arab conquest of Iran. • 10. The Case For Investment Into Art And The Development Of... 2.1 Art Index and Methodology The case for investment into art and the development of art indices has been at the forefront of the evolution of investing into alternative assets. Databases, indices, and market reports are now essential analytical tools with which art investors can assess financial performance. Over the past few decades, researchers have used different methodologies to calculate the financial returns on art investments, based on public auction records. 2.1.1 General Review There are four main methodologies for producing art price indices. Average prices, geometric means, repeat sales and hedonic regressions. The first significant study was by Stein (1977), who analyzes the financial return of auctioned paintings in USA and Britain for the period of 1946 68 by using the average prices methods. Stein considered the auctioned objects each year as a random sample of the underlying stock of art and constructs an index based on the yearly average transaction price. Baumol (1986) and Frey and Pommerehne (1989) calculate the geometric mean return on works that sold at least twice during the considered time frame. Baumol constructs a data set of transaction prices of the best known art works from 1652 to 1961 in London by using geometric mean method. Revisiting Baumol s study, Frey and Pommerehne enlarge the data set by extending the time period to 1987 and including auction sales from European countries. However, these two methods do not enable the construction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Government does not have My College s Back Last week, while having my morning coffee, I overheard a conversation between a college lecturer and a well known secretary in The Ministry of Finance. I was about to return upstairs in my office when I observed the secretary pushed forward, looking the lecturer directly in her eyes emphatically and aggressively said, You academics just don t get it...the government aint gat no money to take care no university. I relaxed in my seat as the conversation between the two raged on. This same discussion is but a fragment of a national discussion that has been ongoing in this country for many years, and the debate is whether or not The Bahamasis economically, financially and socially developed enough to maintaina university. This situation has become a worrying problem indeed.According to her article, We Do Not Need A University , Ms. Pam Burnside discusses the issue of The Bahamas being a small independent nation who wants to ameliorate its tertiary level institution with inadequate financial resources. She further explains that the Bahamas is too greedy and is ashamed of the College that we already have in existence. In addition, she argues that The Bahamas does not need a university and simply cannot afford it. In response to Burnside s arguments, I most certainly agree with her. This will help to produce more oxygen, give a more realistic environment to your animals, and take more carbon dioxide out of the air. Just in case your plants die, the grass can keep your biosphere alive for a little longer. If you can find any worms, you should put them in your biosphere because they help decompose dead organisms, and they produce carbon dioxide for the plants. Interestingly, Smallwood relates the experience of the Middle Passage with African cultural notions of cosmology and funeral rights and rituals. Her approach is refreshing as she is not simply interested in the quantity of slaves brought to market through the middle passage, but rather, she is interested in the experience of the middle passage and how that experience turned Africans into slaves. Smallwood s goal is to bring the people aboard slave ships to life as subjects in American social history. Her goal is one of agency, and is an important and critical goal of any social history. Masculinity holds a different meaning for everybody. For some people it means being a male, but for others it holds a deeper meaning. For example, my dad believes that in order to have masculinityhe must be able to fix everything. He takes on tasks having to do with landscaping, plumbing, lighting, and even interior design; most of the time, he says something along the lines of I can fix that in a minute or I ve just got to go get the supplies. He then waits until my mom gets a professional to come do the task, and he claims that we did not give him enough time to get it done. My dad, along with my other malefriends, feels that since he is a male he needs to prove his masculinity by putting on the act of a handyman. Freudian psychoanalysis theorizes that all human behavior is influenced by early childhood experiences. Freud argues that human behavior is mostly unconscious and driven by conflicting desires, feelings, fears, and motives. The goal of psychoanalysis is to resolve intrapsychic conflict by bringing into conscious awareness the unconscious desires and motives of an individual. Through free association, the unconscious is made conscious, and unresolved conflict or anxiety is resolved. Psychoanalysis also seeks to challenge self defeating coping methods or defense mechanisms and aims to replace the negative coping methods with more effective coping mechanism (Jones Butman, 2012) Freud s model of personality posits that: 1.There are three levels of consciousness: the conscious experiences, the preconscious experiences, and unconscious experiences, however, all behavior is determined by unconscious experiences. 2.Human Behavior is determined by past unresolved events from childhood. 3.Human behavior is determined by the interaction of sexual and aggressive drives. 4.Personality is structured in terms the id, ego and superego. However, while the patricians were awarded lands and gained more power after the kings were overthrown, there were disastrous results for the plebeians. There are many things that lead to the revolt, first, while the plebeians had the right to vote, they could not hold a political office, or sit in the Senate. The rule of the patricians proved to be as oppressive as the kingship had and the struggle began in earnest between the two classes. Second to add insult to injury the plebeians were even worse off monetarily. However, even at the start of symptom expression, people are unlikely to transmit the disease; virion count is so low during the first couple days after the onset of fever that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Ebola often returns false negatives during this period (Drazen 1). Thomas Eric Duncan, the first case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil, is a prime example of the virus s low transmission rate at the onset of symptoms. His family, whom he lived in close quarters with for several days while symptomatic, never contracted the disease, whereas the nurses caring for him towards the end of his life when his virion count was high, did. Moreover, the level of the health infrastructure and equipment that is available in the United States is drastically better staffed, trained, and equipped than in West Africa. When a patient begins exhibiting symptoms here, they can be quickly isolated, which was not possible in Liberia. The lack of any public health authorities to monitor cases of the ... My position: I am in disagreement with this statement and my analysis, based on contextual evidence, is as follows: Although I could argue the question posited above from either position, as many have done before and, as many will continue to do after me, I do not believe that Socrates waivers in his beliefs between the two accounts according to Plato. The contradiction, it seems, focuses on whether or not Socrates is a proponent of civil (dis)obedience, and the apparent conflict between the two works revolves around passages from the Apology, that seem to be in opposition to his stated... Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d). A side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in question. In a passage located in (19a) of the Apology, Socrates not only refutes the charges against him regarding his proported atheism but summarily solidifies his position as one who clearly is concerned with obeying the law. A man and a child, father and son, are alone against an inclement nature while pushing a cart filled with tools, blankets, and things that they have found along the way to the south. About ten years before the world had been reduced to ashes by an apocalyptic disaster, which it is not known whether it was caused by a natural event or the foolishness of human beings. The world is reduced to a single color, gray, that of the ashes covering all that is left, that of hearts and minds, clouded by the pain of the loss and the terror of solitude. All that is left of the humankind is a few tenacious survivors struggling unceasingly against hunger and cold, and those who have lost any trace of humanity giving free vent to the lowest instincts of oppression and violence. But in the novel The Road, Cormac McCarthy paints a vivid and dramatic picture of the catastrophic consequences of a cataclysm that are nothing more than an excuse to minimize the outer contingencies with the sole purpose to bring up what is really dear to his heart, the relationship between a father and a son. They have been deliberately left unnamed for the whole story to epitomize the archetypes of the man and the child, a hymn to paternity, and to unconditional love. In a world reduced to the essentials, McCarthy aims not merely to explore the complexities of the relationship between the two, which in fact remains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christianity began in what was the Roman Empire. Largely ignored by the masses, it was a small monotheistic cult in a polytheistic society. The simplicity of it quickly attracted converts (Veyne 525). Where once they only had Roman idols, a new one was added, that of Jesus Christ. It is not to say that they simply quit believing in the Gods and Goddesses that had safeguarded their crops, homes and families, only that this God offering salvation was added (Veyne 545). Popular society saw a world under control of demons, and to ensure their safety they worshiped a variety of Gods and Goddesses (Veyne 396). As the cult spread, new beliefs were added. These include the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of Jesus, the belief in one God (Noss 636). The rapid growth of Christianity caused alarm in many people. Between 195 and 212, Christians were sporadically persecuted. After 212, persecution slowed, and they were allowed to exist (Frend 294). A major force in the popularization of Christianity was when Constantine converted. Constantine, a late Roman Emperor, discontinued the policy outlawing Christianity, and made it an acceptable religion in the Roman Empire (Frend 294). While two sides are still in conflict, there is not a chance for communication between sides. Until violent conflict ceases, the two parties will continue to dehumanize one another and decrease the ability to understand one another. However, conflicts cannot always resolve themselves and outside intervention is sometimes needed to avoid a cycle of revenge, which can be a result. The problem is a well known bias in human perception, whereby we inflate the value of the wrongs we suffer, and minimize the value of those we ourselves inflict. (Santa Barbara 179). Luckily, there are nations such as Canada, with politicians like Lloyd Axworthy, who created the Canadian peace building initiative in 1996. The initiative suggested a concern for the multidimensional and integrated causes of civil war and thus acknowledged the need to address the economic, social, and political aspects of reconstruction and reconciliation (Keating 171). Due to this, the NFL season is made to be one of the most anticipated times of the year for players, coaches, and especially fans. Sundays are dedicated to football in most American households. The Tragedy Of The Red Tails Films do not simply give someone words and ask them to create a world of their own; films offer a complete other dimension that the viewer belongs to for a few brief hours. Without films like Saving Private Ryan, society would not be able to experience the emotions of, in this case, war, but the emotions of other people in general. Those who watched Milk for the first time were suddenly smacked in the face by the reality of what it was like to stand up for their rights. The audiences of Red Tails saw what it was like to get treated like you were less than someone else, and how people needed to prove their worth to others. None of these films had anything to do with events current from their times of release, but sometimes it is good to empathize with our ancestors. The answer that Ken Frieden gives to this question is a positive one. He downplays the contrast between the sane narrative and mad narrator: The discrepancy between sane narrator and madman perhaps shows the error of assuming that linguistic normalcy implies psychological normalcy. Friedan took it for granted that the narrator is mad because he kills an old man for no reason. He is doubly mad, Friedan said, when he imagines he hears the pounding of the dead man s heart and gives away the crime he had concealed. Yet the narrator tells a coherent tale, as if to demonstrate out of spite that he is sane, refuting the ordinary belief that he must be mad. Though it may seem he is speaking directly to the children, he uses horatian satire to address the parents and express what he believes to be the problems of how they are raising their children. Children are being raised to always do the right thing, though their parents know they will eventually make mistakes. Twain was trying to change this approach in parenting. Instead of teaching children to be superior, the children should be taught how to be a successful adult. All children are going to disobey, lie, and make mistakes. To support, executive director Greg Pfundstein, of the New York City pro life organization Chiaroscuro Foundation, writes in the National Review that although contraceptives were broadly available the 70s the out of wedlock birthrate has tripled and the number of abortions had not decreased, ( Birth Control Funding: 5). This implies that opponents are not convinced by proponent s proposal s. Finally, opponents emphasize that complete coverage is detrimental to American ideals. The federal government crossed a line says republican congressman Jeff Fortenberry, in an article criticizing the mandate, the affordable Care Act represents the flash point of an ideological agenda that in no small measure threatens to undermine fundamental liberties that have defined the essence of our national character, (1) . This statement suggests that many critics do not wish to impact the status quo. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Final Three Crusades Essay Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God. The final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark past that has shaped the future of Catholicism today. The Roman Catholic crusades where Catholic wars started to try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the religion, the final three crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction. The purpose of the research I have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper understanding as to why the Catholic leaders used Crusades to expand their religious beliefs and the outcomes both good and bad of the crusades. The first three crusades were initiated to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions during the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans feeling the need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses, many people abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in the Middle East. Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of the crusades failed or simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand Christianity. The Crusades where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to local Christians, which was part of the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades however did leave some practices instilled in the later religions that where to be made. Through these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted practices that are now influential in there religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an interesting out look of how crusades brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that maybe the crusades where not sparked for religious beliefs but simply for power and money (Emilie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Essay On Master Sugar Artist Unless you are an avid viewer of the Food Network or delve very deeply into the world of cake decorating and sugar work, the name Kerry Vincent might not ring a bell. However, I spent my sick days as a small child watching The Food Network Challenge and immediately admiring the painfully harsh comments that originated from Kerry Vincent. When given the task of interviewing a person I find to be successful, it didn t take long before my thoughts turned toward her. Besides being a judge on The Food Network Challenge , she holds the title of Master Sugar Artist, founded the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show, and assisted in introducing fondant and gum paste to the United States. I was ecstatic to receive an email back inquiring about when the interview would take place. On television, Kerry Vincent can seem harsh, and she is often criticized for being so. This is one of the reasons I admire her. She tells the truth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are a pastry chef at a prestigious kitchen and someone asks you a question about your craft and you cannot give an answer, you will look foolish and the respect that drove that person to ask you the question will have been lost. However, if you are exceptionally knowledgeable about your craft and are able to speak on the topic well, the person will respect you more. On another note, it is not professional to seem to have no knowledge on what is supposed to be your job. The Culinary Institute of America prides itself on professionalism. The last think I want to do is to give the CIA a bad name because I was unprepared. This principle is evident when Mrs. Vincent is judging a competition. Kerry Vincent is known for giving harsh criticisms, but no one has ever corrected her because she is never wrong. Also, no one ever has to ask her to repeat herself because she says exactly what she means very clearly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Benefits Of Denying The Antecedent What exactly is denying the Antecedent? It is a fallacy in formal logic where in a standard if/then premise, the antecedent (what comes after the if ) is made not true, and then it is concludes that the consequent (what comes after the then ) is not true. Denying the antecedent, sometimes also called inverse error or fallacy of the inverse, is a formal fallacy of inferring the inverse from the original statement. I choose this argument because I didn t know much about it, and I felt like I could understand it more if I knew more about the different arguments. Arguments of this form are invalid. Informally, this means that arguments of this form do not give good reason to establish their conclusions, even if their premises are true. When I read about it in the text book it seemed interesting to learn about, and this became the perfect opportunity to do so. I feel like this assignment as giving a lot of clarification on understanding the differences in the arguments.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It doesn t bite. Therefore, it s not a shark. It is not that clear that a fallacy is being committed, but because this is a formal argument following a strict form, even if the conclusion seems to be true, the argument is still invalid. Fallacies can be very tricky and deceptive. Since it doesn t bite, we cannot conclude with certainty that it isn t a shark. The arguer has committed a formal fallacy, and the argument is invalid because the truth of the premises does not guarantee the truth of the conclusion. The reason why I choose to do this argument because when I was reading this section in the book, it kind of confused me. I wanted to look more into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
