New York Trip Research Paper
Have you ever visited a place you have never seen before or walked their streets and all of a
sudden you start being a person who lives there? Well I have when I went to New York for the
first time. My Girl Scout Troop and I decided to take a nice trip to New York. Many of us had
never been there before and couldn t wait to see the places and cultural sites New York was
known for. For example The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Time Square, and famous Broadway
Plays. On our first day we were able to take a ferry ride to the famous Statue of Liberty. While we
were there we got to take a tour around it, go inside and then go all the way to the top where the
torch is and see the amazing view of all the buildings, the ocean, and the Islands. After we were
done with the Statue of Liberty we took the ferry to Ellis Island and had the chance to tour where
over 12 million immigrants came to. We got see where the baggage claims and dormitories were,
the hospitals, and Wall of Honor. Even though we didn t expect to learn on the trip it was actually
fun to learn about what immigrants went through and what they did for years.... Show more content

What Is Substantive Conflict
Conflict happens when people do not agree in a public situation which developed resentments
creating a negative atmosphere among people or group (Schermerhorn, 2011). A person might
develop emotional conflict caused by anger, trusting issues and resentment which caused a negative
energy that affects other and becomes distracting (Schermerhorn, 2011). For instance, when an
employee that is having relationship problems outside work, affects their performance. Also,
seeking comfort with other employees can become a stressing situation. In contrast, substantive
conflict is related to achieving goals in the workplace (Schermerhorn, 2011). Dealing with
coworkers can be challenging because of their cultures. For instance, employees might disagree on
task assignments, policies, and rules because of their beliefs (Schermerhorn, 2011).
The problems associated with conflict are ignoring the issues. For instance, if the employee begins
to notice favoritism, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This might not seem a conflict, but it became when employees began disagreeing and were
uncomfortable of the living conditions. Also, employees started getting sick and missed two or
three days of work. The situation had to be brought to the owners because we were so behind with
our job. To resolve and avoid future conflict, they bought a lock box where the setting could be
changed by them. Conflict among the workplace might start as nothing but could have negative
consequences if is not addressed in a timely fashion matter.

The Safety Techniques And Management Strategies Essay
In today s world, coal is the most commonly used fossil fuel. The coal present in the Pike River
Coal Mine had some distinctive qualities. It was bright, lustrous coking coal with several
properties that was sought after by the international steel makers. They used coke as a source of
fuel for blasting furnaces and carbon was used to bind with iron to produce steel. Therefore, Pike
coals unique property of producing low ash and high fluidity made it potentially valuable resource.
Underground mining is very hazardous due to some reasons like lack of fresh air, poor ventilation,
poor lighting and high level of poisonous gas. Thus, several safety precautions should be taken for
the well being of the miners. Due to lack of these safety precautions and poor management
strategies, on 19th November 2010 an explosion at Pike River Coal Mine left 29 miners dead. This
report will further discuss on the safety techniques and management strategies taken by the three
protagonists of Pike River Coal Mine the managers, the state and the workers.
OUTSOURCING:
Outsourcing is one of the important management strategy that provides wider access to world class
capabilities and share risks with a partner company. Outsourcing in mining industry depends on two
factors: production factors and capacity based factors. Production factors are mostly related to the
strategic level of outsourcing whereas capacity based factors related to the tactical level. The Pike

How Did The Gaelic League Affect The Irish Dance
When I hear the words The Gaelic League , I automatically think of the period when the Irish
language was restored in Ireland. I agree with the above statement. The Gaelic League
influenced the promotion of the Irish dance tradition greatly in the 20th century as dance was
very important. It was a massive part of Irish culture and it maintained Irish identity. It was
founded by O Growney and Douglas Hyde in 1893. It established an agency called An Coimisiun
le Rinci Gaelacha (the commission for Irish dances) in 1930. It was set up to promote and
standardize Irish traditional group dancing and solo step dancing. It organised classes, festivals and
competitions. An Coimisiun is still around today. In this essay, I will discuss the impact the Gaelic
League had on Irish dance, how it spread from Ireland and became global and how it is still very
popular today.
There is very little reference of Irish dance before the 20th century. The earliest reference was a
group dance with various different formations. Before the Gaelic League formed, dance classes
were mainly held in rural Munster. There were held simultaneously with language classes. Irish
dance became more popular in Ireland as a result of regular weekly classes, competitions and ceili
dances. Dance was once forbidden in houses of rural Ireland. In Brennan s article, we learn that
during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, this new nationalist designation of the form provided a necessary ingredient to the
institutional organization of Irish dancing and the modern competitive model through which the
form developed and is practiced today (Cullinane, 2003, p.6). The Gaelic League set up Irish
dance schools in the 1920s. The dances that were taught were controlled by the league and had to
be Irish. The league organised competitions called feiseanna to promote Irish culture. This also
developed more interest in Irish

Ethical Considerations For A Crisis Management Plan
In order for a crisis management plan to be carried out, a crisis management team will be needed
to help the person dealing with a crisis situation. A crisis management team is a team of people
that have the knowledge and skills on how to respond and deal with a crisis situation. The crisis
management team may compromise of individuals such as teachers, social workers, police officers,
nurses, paramedics, psychologists, and school principals. School counselors should also be
considered apart as a member of the crisis managementteam because they re trained to know how to
respond and help students in crisis situations. In the next heading, the role of the school counselor
in crisis managementwill be discussed allowing with ethical and legal... Show more content on

Also, another ethical consideration for school counselors would be if the student is a danger to
themselves or another student, then it s important to disclose that information along with getting
their parents involved. The legal considerations that must be applied when responding to a
student crisis is that school counselors have a duty to protect students when they re going
through a crisis. Going back to the crisis of a student being a danger to another student, school
counselors have the legal duty to protect that other student as well as reporting to the authorities
(Kanel, 2015). It s important that school counselors know how to collaborate before, during, and
after a crisis. Before a crisis, the school counselor can collaborate with teachers and other school
staff members by training them and coming up with ways on how to help students during a
crisis situation. During a crisis, the school counselor will show other staff members how to
comfort students during their time of need in the crisis situation. After a crisis, the school
counselor will help staff members by showing them how to help students recover from a crisis as
well as providing them resources if they need any more additional help. The way that
collaboration assist in a crisis response is that school counselors and staff members come together
to work as a team help students heal through a crisis situation (Kelley, 2015). As for a post crisis
response, School counselors and staff members must prepare to come up with a plan along with
intervention strategies and resources in order to help students recover successfully from a crisis
situation. There are many techniques for school counselors to take into consideration that would be
helpful for students who experience a traumatic event such as cognitive behavioral therapy,

Assessment Of Spoken And Language
The CASL or Comprehensive Assessment of spoken and language was administered by two student
clinicians. The Test consists of 15 sub tests in the domains of comprehension, expression, and
retrieval in the 4 categories of semantics, syntax, supra linguistics, and pragmatics.. These sub tests
are then divided into core or supplementary categories. Core tests are meant to determine basic
languagecomponents where as supplementary test are meant to convey further information for a
diagnosis. Depending on the client s age, the test can take between thirty minutes to an hour and a
half to administer, but overall is not a difficult test and yields useful results. A variety of different
factors where taken into account when norming the CASL. The agegroup used was between 3.0 to
21.11 years, and taken from most areas of the country including the Northeast, northwest, central,
and west. Fifty percent of these participants were male and fifty percent were female. Almost
70% of this reference population identified as white while about 20% of the reference population
was either Hispanic or African American. Based on these norms this test may be better for some
populations rather then others. For example, if a clinician has a Hispanic boy from Texas, she
may want to use a different test, or at least keep these norms in mind when scoring. Because this
test is normed on a large portion of the population, even with a price of about 500 dollars, many
clinics would find this test useful to

INVESTING IN IT INFRASTRUCTURE
Question 1. How should Settle and his team evaluate the e learning option? What factors should
they consider when deciding between eLearning and traditional, classroom based education?
Settle should evaluate the eLearning option based on the following principles for delivering value:
(1) Have a clearly defined portfolio value management process. In the case, Settle has had a
basically financial budget already. There are two vendors that clearly listed to choose, one is
RealServer, and the other is Microsoft.
(2) Aim for chunks of value. ELearning would enable MBUSA to scale its training systems without
building additional training facilities. It improves employee productivity by ... Show more content

(6) Other factors like student access to computers and bandwidth availability is not a problem.
Because I have mentioned before that Greg Settle would apply eLearning to a number of
technicians that exceed the classroom capacity, those who have access to computers to take the on
line courses.
In conclusion, the web based distance learning option benefits MBUSA more than adding a training
center does.
Question 2. Build a financial model to determine if MBUSA should invest in eLearning. Should
MBUSA make the investment? What are the key drivers of value?
Generally speaking, budgets are means to implement IT strategy, linking the long term goals of the
organization and the short term goal execution through the allocation of resources to activities.
According to the MBUSA financial model in the excel sheet, the NPV of adding a training center
is $167,737,828.11, while the NPV of building web based distance learning is $141,952,163. To
pick the one with higher NPV, MBUSA should invest in eLearning.
The key drivers of value are:
(1) The distance learning system would enable MBUSA to scale its training systems without
building additional training facilities, instructor salaries, administrative staff, and building utilities
and maintenance.
(2) The distance learning system would eliminate the costs of videotapes and other documentation.
(3) NetSTAR would eventually reach all dealerships in the MBUSA network.

Summary Of Danny Wants A Cup Of Water By John Steinbeck
Steinbeck uses imagery and structure to champion his theme that it is peoples intrinsic character
that will ultimately push them to survive even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. The
passage opens with Steinbeck describing the cars along route 66 as fraught and unable to go on.
He personifies them by stating that they are panting and struggling . He also uses a metaphor to
compare them with rattling bodies , as if they are the migrant workers themselves. This
characterization of the cars is meant to show an analogy between the migrants and the cars since
both are on the brink of breaking down at any moment. However, the cars still pushing on down the
road also compare to the migrants, but only the ones who have kept fighting.... Show more content

He is able to use the short, yet very powerful story of twelve people in order to strengthen his
psychological argument about how people are able to retain their trust and compassion even in
such devastating times. This is exemplified through the repetition of Danny wants a cup of water
. The first time it is said, Steinbeck uses a simile to describe how the concrete road shone like a
mirror since it is so hot that it creates a rippling effect like a wave in the distance, almost as if the
road is taunting Danny by containing pools of water when he cannot even have a drop. Because
no one has yet acknowledged the thirsty boy, Danny wants a cup of water is repeated. Now,
someone prompts a response with a sympathetic tone through the words, poor little fella.
Furthermore, the person then demonstrates his persistence in getting the boy some water by
saying he will stop at the next service station . Steinbeck has just explained how a majority of
the cars are likely to break down at any moment; therefore, the simple fact that the family still
decides to drive knowing that they might not make it shows how hopeful they really are.
Moreover, with this worry constantly nagging at their minds, they are still able to focus on
satisfying the boy s thirst. Steinbeck then transitions into a family that does not have a car, yet the
same principle of hope and trust applies to them. They come together as a family and prepare for
whatever hardships may come. Though, a man facing the same amount of struggle is able to pick
them up, feed them, and take them to California. Now, Steinbeck uses this example to formulate
his argument. Neither party expects to meet each other, but both are able to help each other. The
family of twelve is able to keep the

The “Modern” Classroom. If You Were To Ask A Group Of
People
THE MODERN CLASSROOM If you were to ask a group of people of varying ages today to
describe the word classroom , you would unsurprisingly get a similar response from a majority
of the crowd. A box shaped room with rows of small, confining desks, and a whiteboard or
chalkboard front and center of the room. The funny thing is that if you were to ask the same
question 200 years ago, you would probably get the same response. Why does the classroom of the
21st centurylook so similar to the classrooms of the 1800 s? Have we really gone nearly two
centuries without changing our educational environment? The answer, sadly, is yes. However,
there are many who believe the classroom needs a major update, and I would have to agree.
Although many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Too many of our teachers are using 21st century technology with 19th century pedagogy with
teaching styles and classroom management techniques that haven t changed much since my
grandparents were in school... many schools still employ top down one size fits all teaching
methods where learning is based on how many hours kids spend in class rather than what skills and
insights they acquire (Magid)
Personally, these classes left me having to make extra time not only to review and study the
material, but to make sense of it at the most basic level.
On the other hand, I have taken several online classes that have been less traditional, and more
technology driven. However, there were a few problems that arose with these courses: the lack of
immediate contact to the instructor; and the lack of interaction with my classmates. If I had a
question I wasn t guaranteed immediate feedback. Online interaction can be equally as stimulating,
but it can also make you feel like you are all alone in your coursework because of the inherent lack
of physical presence (Florida National University). Ultimately this would hinder my learning
process, along with the urge to procrastinate on my virtual assignments without the push of a real
instructor made online classes a little challenging.
However, some of the best classes that I have taken have been ones that were a combination of both
traditional and online learning. They were less

Journal Entries for habit
Journal Entries for habit one and two Habit 1: Be Proactive According to Stephen Covey, being
proactive is part of human nature and humans are responsible for their own lives. He indicated the
details of a social map which consist of Genetic determinism (Ancestors), Psychic determinism
(Parents) and Environment determinism (Boss or something in the environment). The proactive
concept was explained further using the Stimulus and Response relationship and the catalyst story
of Viltor Frankl. Between Stimulus and Response, man has the ability or freedom to choose. This
means one can decide how to reactive to thing or how to handle each situation. What matters most
is how we respond to what we experience in life. We need to take initiative... Show more content on

In the same way, Algebra comes before calculus. To expatiate on this point, Covey noted that
independence is an achievement. Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make.
So the place to begin building any relationship is inside ourselves, inside our Circle of Influence,
our own character. Stephen further recollected an incidence he had with his two sons to explain
what attending to little things meant. To him, Small discourtesies, little unkindnesses, little forms
of disrespect make large withdrawals in our lives. In relationship for instance, the little thing are the
big things. Keeping commitments, Clarifying expectations, showing personal integrity,
apologizing sincerely when we make a withdrawal from our emotional bank are important things
to do to make deposits in to our emotional banks. Covey mentioned that, with the paradigm of the
Emotional Bank Account in mind, we re ready to move into the habits of Public Victory, or
success in working with other people. Habit 4: Think win win (Principles of Interpersonal
leadership) Under this heading, Covey narrated his personal experience at work with a company
and at the end he noted that, whether you are the president of a company or the janitor, the moment
you step from independence into interdependence in any capacity, you step into a leadership role.
You are in a position of influencing other people. And the habit of effective interpersonal leadership
is to think win win. In

The Tragedy Of Beowulf By William Shakespeare
Ancestry plays an important part in Beowulf, it is the blood that the characters carry that decides
their fate. To try to deny destiny, is both courageous yet, for some it is futile. Beowulf s most
conflicting character is Grendel, throughout the story you may feel pity for him, and other times
you feel hatred for him. Grendellive in a marshy swamp, and is a descendant of Cain, who killed
his own blood brother, Abel, out of jealousy. To pay for this ultimate sin, Cain s whole clan was
condemned to be outcasts. The apple does not fall far from the tree because Grendel also feels
envy towards the people in Heorotfor shunning him away, so he retaliates by killing people without
feeling any type of remorse.
In the beginning, times were peaceful in Heorot. There would often be banquets in the mead hall
and warriors would celebrate their victories. It harrowed him to hear the din of the loud banquet,
(Beowulf 43). Grendel was frustrated by all the noise the people made every single day. This
may seem as an overreaction, but the reader must look at it from both sides. One can only wonder
about the agony Grendel must have went through to hear the people who tormented him, have
parties every single day and enjoy themselves. It s no surprise that Grendel ended up snapping and
going into a rampage. Although Grendel is dangerous, he only attacks when it is dark outside.
Could it be that Grendel is ashamed of being seen when it s daylight? Grendel has a local

Citizen Kane By Orson Welles
The willing to get money and wealth is able to do awful things with people. Trying to
multiply their prosperity and authority they can lose their human nature and soul, turn human
relation into the market. In the movie Citizen Kane directed by Orson Welles in 1941, on the

marriages, but both were unhappy because of Kane s treatment to his women. He also was very
close to the successful political career, but lost the chance to change something being a
politician because of his rigidity and inability to listen to people and to take into account their
opinions. Thus, I can state with confidence that this person made an ambiguous impression on
me in the negative sense of this word.
From the very beginning I would like to mention that I do not like the main character of
the movie due to his way of life and attitude toward other people. Initially, Kane dedicates his
life to the idea of service to society, but inevitably evolves into a person, who uses his
enormous money and power to meet the desires and permanent whims of own ego. The
sequence in the entire film shows that during the movie Kane was desperately trying to deserve

The Psychological And Psychological Crises Of Kuber And Yank
Sometimes, rather most often, some questions, raised by the impuissant,are never answered;
rather suppressed. Some are never raised as the powerless people, who do not possess the internal
and external courage to pose the hundreds of unanswered questions regarding survival, have been
in severe crisis of existence throughout their life span living as inferior, in terms of every
acknowledged and unacknowledged fundamental needs, among the superior as an evidence and
representative of furtive humanity. This work is an attempt to point out the psychological and
physiological crises of Kuber and Yank, that are contributed by the conflicting factors and forces
exist in the society where extreme dichotomy prevails between and among the people of two
opposite classes : one is the upper class, that always endeavors to exploit the opposite class and,
sometimes, homogenous class as well and the other is the lower class that is always exploited in
different forms with the mechanical tools adopted cunningly, foolishly, intentionally,
unintentionally and consciously or subconsciously by the upper class.

The Godfather Violence
The Godfather (1972) is a one of a kind film. I consider it one of the best American classics. This
film has it all from amazing action scenes that have you on the edge of your seat wanting to know
what is going to happen next. The film also includes incredible famous actors, which includes
Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Cann among many others. Throughout the filmthe main
theme of the film overall is violence. It is either really happening in a scene or it is being talked
about between the characters in the film. But in my opinion it all this violence that makes this film
a classic. The Godfathers opening scene is of a man ask for the help of Don Vito Corleone. Hey

got shot was because he had refused Sollozzo s offer. In that same time Sollozzo manages to
capture Tom to try to convince him to Sonny, Don Corleone s oldest son, to take the offer. This
scene contains a lot of emotional appeal towards Don Corleone, even though he is a mob boss,
probably because of all the respect that is shown towards him. But it is later known that he will be

Arguments Against Gun Control
In the United States, citizens have debated over whether or not gun control is a good solution in
our country for years. The debates form two sides: one side that s in favor of gun control and one
that is against gun control. As of late, individuals on the pro side pro gun control argued that the
numerous shootings in our nation were mostly because of our country s need for gun control.
People would find that answer reasonable, but in reality, it is an over generalization; there are
numerous other variables that play a portion in horrific event shootings. Those who are against gun
control have claimed that gun control laws violate citizen s constitutional rights. Numerous citizens
would say that neither both in favor and against gun control is right, but when the facts are
displayed it is self evident that gun control is not a great solution since guns don t kill people,
people kill people . Stopping criminals and put more priority on their punishment is a better solution
than restricting citizens the right to own firearms and taking them away. Gun control should be
reduced in the United Statesbecause it s our constitutional right, armed citizens prevent most crimes,
and countries with high gun control have high crimerates.
The Constitution of United States of America is what gives citizens rights. It has over twenty seven
amendments, but one of them affects gun control. The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights
states that A well regulated militia, being necessary to

The 4 H s In The Odyssey
Myths have a very important function in the story that may not be the most obvious idea. Myths
explains a code of behavior with rewards and punishments. Odyssey explains the 4 H s through the
actions and adventure of Odysseus. The 4 H s are the honor, hospitality, hubris, and heroism that
comes from greek mythology. Honor means reputation of excellence and back then in time of
Odysseus it didn t necessarily mean one was to be a good person. Hospitality is retreating a
stranger with respect and protection, and providing what they need. Hubris, the opposite of
humility, refers to extreme, ignorant pride or arrogance which is can be punished by the gods.
Heroism using one s brains as much as they use their muscle. First, throughout the story we can see
Odysseus achieve honor. However Odysseus honor is different from ours. He killed men and
kidnapped women for honor. He found his honor in Ismarus when (he), I stormed that place and
killed the men who fought. Plunder we took, and we enslaved the women, to... Show more content

let it pass, but my men riding on the pectoral fleece the giant s blind hands blundering never

Odysseus, Lithe and young she made him, ruddy with sun, his jawline clean, the beard no
longer gray upon his chin. Your cloak is new: even your skin! You are one of the gods who rule the

Explain Why It Is Important To Understand The Stages Of...
It is important to remember when looking at child and young person development that
development is a learning and holistic process. Each child is unique, they will develop at their
own rate and in their own way. A broad average of when children and young people are expected
to reach particular stages is set out through milestones of development. Some children may reach
certain milestones either in advance or later than other children, this is their rate of development.
To give an example some children may be showing signs of puberty in their last year of primary
school where others may not. It is important to understand this individual rate of development so
that staff can offer the correct support to the child. Extra support maybe required

The Battle For Bears Ears: Preserving a Utah Treasure 115 miles south of Moab is a land revered

Hyperbole In Macbeth
Literature is strongly admired for its plethora of techniques that enhance the meaning of its
creations. A motif is a literary technique which is a recurring symbol or idea that establishes the
theme or central focus. William Shakespeare, highly renowned English playwright, has written
many plays with unique motifs that define each play significantly. One of his most famous
playwrights is Macbeth, a tragic story about a brave Scottish general named Macbeth that receives a
prophecy that he will one day be the King of Scotland. Macbeth does everything in his dwindling
power to ensure the legitimacy of the crown, regardless of the unfortunate consequences that
plummet his soul into the depths of darkness and despair. Throughout the play, Shakespeare... Show

When Macbeth returns from completing the forsaken deed, he is in shock and awe of the huge
crime he recently committed. He says, Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean
from my hand? No, this my hand will rather/ The multitudinous seas incarnadine,/Making the
green one red (2.2. 78 81). The hyperbole helps emphasize the irrevocable task that Macbeth just
did. He s saying that there is not enough water in the world to wash or clean himself of the blood.
There is no way for him to get rid of the blood on his hands. He s also saying that everything he
touches henceforth will inevitably be tainted by this blood. Within the hyperbole, Macbeth
alludes to Neptune, the Roman god of the seas. This shows that not even the water from the god
who blesses and protects the seas and water as a whole will be able to wash away his sins and
crimes. Blood in this scene represents the extensive guilt that Macbeth feels for killing King
Duncan. Macbeth will never be able to return to his true self, the blood will always remain on his
hands, and he will forever be haunted with this. By stating that he can change the color of the ocean
to red shows how greatly this has affected Macbeth and the huge amount of guilt that he now has.
This is the first murderous crime that Macbeth commits for the crown, and the guilt from it
continues to haunt him as he plots to kill others that would pose

Essay on Sensitive Periods in Developement
Sensitive Periods in Developement The child does not grow uniformly and homogeneously like a
crystal or a carrot, but by stages or phases, which succeed one another and which, differ from one
another. For proper growth and development it is necessary that the potentialities for developing
human relationships with which the infant is born be exposed to the organizing influences of
another human being. Accumulating evidence indicates that there exist critical developmental
periods during which the organism is ready for differential development, within which periods it
must receive the proper stimulations if it is to develop adequately. These critical developmental

course, well known that such critical developmental periods exist in the development of the body,
with the principle well established that the earlier the interference with their development the more
widespread will the disturbance in growth be. Tissues must reach a certain stage of differentiation
before they can respond; later such tissues achieve a certain relative fixity, so that they can yield.

Why? Perhaps Davidson himself was not so close to the dog attack, because he himself was not

Cheer Is A Sport Essay
Cheer has been around for a long time. It may not be the oldest or best sport in the world, but it
is definitely a sport. Cheerleading has gone from cheering on sports to All Star cheer, competing.
Many people have said cheer isn t a sport, but there are rules and requirements that make cheer a
sport just like football or soccer.
Cheer was founded by Johnny Campbell, he lead the first cheers on November, 1898 at the
Minnesota University American football game. Campbell helped the crowd cheer for their team and
helped their team to wins by cheering and encouraging. Cheerleaders have been required to lift up
and throw people in the air, along with tumbling, jumps, and dance. These require the strength of
football, grace of dance, and agility of gymnastics. The skills performed go beyond the limits of the
body. Safety organizations like ,AACCA, have been formed because of the requirements and skills
of cheer. Coaches have been professionally trained at national conventions. This sport takes a lot of

How Did American Race Relations Affect The Civil Rights...
The Civil Rights Movement grew momentum during the 1960s. As America became an Affluent
Society , the nation became more responsible for projecting a positive image of freedom an
abstract idea that failed to be a reality to all. WWII disrupted the social construct and implications
that come with racebecause blacks felt that they were entitled to the same rights as their fellow
whites. Nonetheless, people of color, particularly African Americans, continued to face the
injustices and inequalities they ve been burdened with since the beginning of time. Segregation
was not only enforced by laws in the South, but also by custom in the North and West (1019).
Signs of Jim Crow proliferated, an example being in the field of education. Blacks did not have
access to an equal education as whites. When Linda Brown was denied admittance to a school for

In Pre Modern Europe, Jews would be the largest minority. Jews would follow their own law of
Judaism (which had rules such as how to dress and when to work) that would differ from the
Christian way. Because of this difference, there was a little tension between the Christians and
Jews, but they did co exist. However, Jews did sometimes get expelled from certain regions.
Furthermore, Jews would not be treated as people who practiced a different religion but as people
of a separate biological race. Now as countries and borders became more and more apparent,
nationalism came on the rise. In order to be nationalistic and band together with others of the same
nationality, one must have something or someone to band together against, and unfortunately but
predictably, Jews were the target of this newfound nationalism. This resentment of the Jews in
Europe had been instilled in their mindset going into the interwar period ( Racism, Anti

For example, in Protocols of the Elders of Zion, written in 1902, someone who had anti Semitic

The sales growth demonstrated above, however, is driven by higher consumer demand and
consumption of energy drinks as seen in Fig.2. Strong product awareness has been already
established in the United States and Red Bull has acquired an extensive and loyal consumer base
over the past years.
After analyzing the energy drink market, I came to the conclusion that Red Bull should try to
decrease its price in order to maintain the rising star position in the Boston Consulting Matrix in
which it currently is placed. New Product Development (NPD) is also crucial in order to compete
in the growing energy drink market in the United States.

The preamble of the United States Constitution clearly states its objective: to establish justice,
insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and

The bill of rights is the set of amendments to the constitution intended to secure these objectives for
the individual citizens of the United States. The second amendment states:

The meaning of the second amendment depends on the definition of two words: Militia and
Regulated.
Some feel that the national guard fulfills the constitutional requirement for a militia. The guard is
a highly organized arm of the military that can be deployed to any part of the world and for any
purpose the commanders of the armed forces see fit. A militia however is defined by the Webster
dictionary as a group of citizens called out only in emergencies. The supreme court presented its
definition of militia in US vs. Miller (1939):
The signification attributed to the term Militia appear from the debates in the convention, the
history and legislation of colonies and states, and the writings of approved commentators. These
show plainly enough that the Militia comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for
the common defense...
This ruling upheld 10 USC Sec. 311. This law defined all able bodied male citizens between the
age of 17 and 45 as part of the militia. The national guard is clearly part of the militia, but the
militia is a much greater force than the Guard alone. This view is the one supported by theNRA .
Those who oppose this interpretation of militia, such as the ACLU , claim that if the second
amendment allows the ownership to a gun it must also allow ownership of a tank or a nuclear
bomb. This point was also addressed in the

Criminal Profiling Case Study
Profiling is the recording and analysis of a person s psychological and behavioral characteristics,
it helps to assess or predict their capabilities in a certain area or to assist in identifying a particular
subgroup of people. Looking at the makeup of a crime can help to identify who the subject is. All
suspects have different signatures and modus operandi that connect crimeto person, and it would
not be successful without connecting the crime scene to the background of a person through
psychology. Below are three criminal cases that used psychology and criminal profiling to have a
result in successful trackings. The first case, that of Joseph Paul Franklin, also recognized as The
Racist Killer , was born into a poor Alabama family. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The killings began in 1979 and went on for a long twenty two months. Looking at the victims of
the killings, they all fit one profile, young, African American males taken in public areas during
daylight. (Five). Although Williams was only convicted of the murders of two adults, he was
also thought to be the one behind the death of more than twenty others. The string of cases of the
twenty others was known as the Atlanta Child Murders, after the discovery of two young black
children were found murdered and hidden under bushes. As more victims were being found,
Williams changed his modus operandi. He went from hiding the bodies to dumping them into the
Chattahoochee River, allowing investigators to get a better lead and staking out all 14 of the
bridges above the river. a group of law enforcement officers on surveillance at the river heard a loud
splash around 3 a.m. On the bridge, a car fled the scene, and the police pursued and pulled it over.
The driver was Wayne Williams, a 22 year old black freelance photographer. The police had no
idea what the splash was at this point, so they had to let Williams go (Wayne). Just a few days
later a body was found in the river, allowing investigators to call Williams back in for questioning.
He was then arrested and given two subsequent life sentences for the murder of two men, and not
being convicted of the other twenty murders they thought to be connected to

Why Is a Solution to the Israel-Palestine Conflict so Hard...
Israeli Palestinian conflict could be described as a clash that between Israelis and Palestinian
Arabs as they attempted to compete the same piece of land briefly (Dowty 2008:1, 4). The reasons
that prevent a solution to the Israeli Palestinian problem will be discussed and will be divided into
three parts, Israeli reasons, Palestinian reasons and the common problem between two countries.
In terms of Palestinian reasons, there are three reasons, the United Nation General Assembly
(UNGA) Resolution 181, consequence that Israel was established in 1948 and settlement policy is
enforced in Palestinian territory by Israel.
For the UNGA Resolution 181, Israeli occupied more territory than Palestinians. In 1947, two state
solution was passed in UNGA, Palestine was divided into two states, one for Jewish and one for
Arab (El Hasan 2010: 55). However, Arabs occupied 43 45.5% of land in Palestine even the
population of Arabs in Palestine was 2/3 (Soderblom 2003). This was unfair to them. Besides,
Jews claim that they have sovereignty on Palestine as their ancestor have moved to Palestine and
they maintain there is a tie between Jews and Palestine for more than 3,700 years, so it is their
historic homeland (Gans 2008: 101; Brown 2011: 139). In contrast, Palestinians argue that there
were only 1/4 of Jews lived in Palestine before 70 AD, this does not mean that Jews lived there can
compete the land (Lorimer and Malloy 2002: 7). Besides, Palestinian thought the UNGA Resolution

The word Wit has multiple definitions, most of which...
The word Wit has multiple definitions, most of which metaphysical poets use in their distinctive
poetic style. Definitions for wit include: the keen perception and cleverly apt expression of those
connections between ideas that awaken amusement and pleasure (Dictionary.com 2014) and
understanding, intelligence, or sagacity, astuteness (Dictionary.com 2014).
In this paper I will unpack the main features of metaphysical poetry and explore the relevance of wit
and conceit in relation to John Donne s works. Furthermore, I will endeavour to make connections
between John Donne, the person and John Donne, the poet. By analysing different poems I will
draw on Donne s history, poetic style, and era to ascertain whether Donne s use of wit is a ... Show

In 1601, Donne s life s successes were reversed after secretly marrying Anne Moore with whom
he had twelve children. Their marriage ruined his career and he was sent to prison with Samuel
Brooke who married them. The Donne family lived in poverty for ten years and was dependent
on the charity of friends, family and patrons. Donne s works reflects his life s journey where in
the early years when he was enjoying womanizing, travelling and building his career, he wrote
his love poems. However, during Donne s lean years, he wrote his divine poems and elegies for
patrons. During the early 1600 s after being forced to convert to Anglicanism by King James I
and the death of his wife Anne in 1617, Donne continued to write poetry, notably his Holy
Sonnets (1618) (Jokinen, 2006). He was consumed with grief by the loss of his wife for whom
he wrote the seventeenth Holy Sonnet, Since she whom I lov d hath paid her last debt (Jokinen,
2006). In the later years of his life Donne s work focused on death. His private meditations are
testimony to his mind set during this time of his life. Most notably is Meditation 17, which include
the immortal lines No man is an island and never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for
thee (Jokinen, 2006).
The works of John Donne continues to evoke discordance among literary critics. Donne, who is
acknowledged as being the leader in metaphysical

Conditional Probability For Statisticians
Conditional Probability
Huafeng Zhang
I. Introduction
Everyone in a way use conditional probability even if they don t realize the science behind it. Non
statisticians use conditional probability without recognizing it mostly when they make decisions or
judgments, for example they will be less likely to lend money to people who borrowed his money
but haven t returned the money back. Statisticians think of conditional probability in both logical
and quantitative way.
II. Conditional Probability for Statisticians
For statisticians, conditional probability is everywhere. They will strictly define the events before
computing the conditional probability and use the properties or Bayes theorem to find the
conditional probability.
Statisticians understand that conditional probability derives from the concept of probability.
Probability is a number between zero and one, which measures the likelihood that an event will
occur. The bigger the probability is, the more likely this event is going to happen. The conditional
probability of event A happens given that event B occurs can be written as P(A|B)=(P(A∩B))
/(P(B)) where P(A∩B) is the probability that both events A and B happen, P(B) is the probability
that event B occurs. For example,in order to test if the athletes actually use steroid given the test
results are positive, assuming we know the probability that the test results are positive is 0.6 and the
probability that the test results are positive and the athletes use steroid

Political Leaders Should Withhold Information
Some believe that political leaders should withhold information from the public. Others believe that
the public should know everything that political leaders know. Some believe in certain
circumstances information should be withheld from the public, and in other cases information
should not be withheld. Some believe that the public should not be informed of the information the
governmentor political leaders have access to. The ones who believe this also often believe that it
is not the public s business to get involved with it. Some believe that if all information were to not
be restrained, the nation(s) would be more informed. The nation(s) knowing the same as what the
political leaders know would help with equality. The public may also

Body Art Research Paper
When someone refers a tattoo by a body art, I know that they somewhat either have some
themselves or love them! When you mention body art to someone they look at you like you are
an alien or they just ignore the fact of you mentioning tattoos. These situations are rather
common from what I can see. Two men were talking behind where I was sitting, taking notes,
minding my own business. I happen to have ears that love to be curious so I didn t control what
I heard and what I didn t. The conversation was around two adults about one of their teenager, don
t ask me if it was a teenage boy or girl, I have no clue! One the man was very frustrated almost
looked worried while the other was confident, seemed more relaxed than the other! The calm
guy mentioned body arts while the other was staring at him in an odd way. I looked at them both
wondering who had tattoos and who didn t... Surprise, surprise, the one that said body arts had
two sleeves while the other didn t have any visible ones. Before I had tattoos myself, I didn t pay
attention to people that had them or didn t even bothered listening to how people view them. I
always liked tattoos, always thought it was some type of art, but it wasn t... Show more content on

How Did Daniel Defoe s Death Affect Society
A dreadful plague in London was In the year sixty five, Which swept an hundred thousand souls
Away; yet I alive (Defoe 159). This cry by H.F. is a fascinating statement of a survivor of the 1665
Plague in London. The distribution of burdens in the book was unequal. Personally, Daniel Defoe
was not as impacted as society was as a whole. The intervention of government is supported as
effective but the aftermath of the events reveals the standards that were perpetuated during the
plague were not established as a permanent social institute.

a word, a prodigious number of people who must otherwise inevitably have perished for want as

end, Defoe also offered a contrast to this societal standard with, ...the morals of the people declined
from this very time; that the people, hardened by the danger they had been in, like seamen after a
storm is over, were more wicked and more stupid, more bold and hardened, in their vices and
immoralities than they were before... (147). The plague culminated in a interesting phenomenon of
compassion and tolerance from many English communities but that equal leveling of social classes
was not an enduring consequence of the Bubonic Plague, it was an exception to the rule. After the
plague had passed over London, the people returned to their normal class structure and what good
conduct transpired during the Bubonic Plague was

Mental Deterioration In Hamlet
Madness does not have an exact cause but, rather it is the combination of psychological and
environmental factors that can cause mental deterioration. Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark has the reoccurring theme of madness demonstrated through the
protagonist s downward spiral into insanity. Therefore, Shakespeare s tragic hero, Hamlet,
throughout the course of his journey, undergoing traumatic events, communications with the
supernatural and his inability to decipher right from wrong, ultimately prove his mental state to
have been affected, making him mad.
Repeated exposure to tragic events can trigger traumatic stress being a detrimental factor to an
individual s mental state. In The Tragedy of Hamlet, the protagonist, ... Show more content on

Hamlet s insanity peaks when he loses his principles of respecting human life. Hamlet shows no
remorse, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell. /I took thee for thy better. Take thy
fortune. / Thou find st to be too busy is some danger (III.iv.185). He realizes he mistakenly killed
the wrong man, yet Hamlet shows no sign of regret for killing Polonius. Hamlet s lack of empathy
corroborates to the idea that his madness causes him to lose his humanity. In the beginning of the
play, Hamlet proves to be meticulous when it comes to attain revenge, however, Hamlet s madness
escalated to the point where Polonius is carelessly killed. Hamlet having experienced parental loss
and knowing the suffering it brings, in a right state of mind, no sane person would wish that
suffering onto another person. Author Barbara, notes, The loss of her [Ophelia s] father her link
to emotional security once she can no longer trust in her own perceptions is the final, fatal assault
on her tenuous mental stability and survival instinct (Smith 98).. Hamlet is insanely consumed
with revenge that he has become murderous and insensitive for not thinking about the sorrow
and grief it will give Laertes and Ophelia. Hamlet s actions are altered by his madness making
him unaware that he is the indirect cause of Ophelia s madness. When Hamlet s kills Polonius he
becomes conscienceless, nonetheless, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s killings show the cynical
side of Hamlet s madness. He tells Horatio about, [Rosencrantz s and Guildenstern s] defeat/ Does
by their own insinuation grow. / Tis dangerous when the baser nature comes / Between the pass
and fell incensed points (V. ii. 62 65). Hamlet s inability to decipher right from wrong proves his
level of insanity. He blames his friends of treason, justifying their

Examples Of Realism In To The Lighthouse And The Third Man
Modernist Narratives and the Third Person Narrator: an Analysis of
To the Lighthouse and The Third Man Modernism in film and literature often begins with space
and distance. The modernist movement in the early to mid 20th century sought to change the way
we look at art and its expression of inner human turmoil. Influenced by the German Expressionist
movement that attempted to show a distorted view of [the] world to evoke a mood or idea
(Crabbe), modernist narratives use space to allow the reader or viewer to actively engage with the
character and have more self conscious and subjective interpretation towards the novel so as to
create the strong bond with the novel. Often, modernism narratives style replaces the claustrophobia
of first person narration styles, welcoming third person forms that provide readers subjective
interpretation of the story. Also, modernism... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbolically mirroring the third person film narrative is the literal third person at the scene of the
crime, a man for whom the protagonist Holly Martins searches as he learns of the suspicious
death of his friend Harry Lime. In an ironic twist, the third person at the scene was likely Harry
himself, who is not dead after all, only faking his death to avoid suspicion in an underground, gang
related drug racketeering scheme. Using German Impressionistic motifs such as high contrast
between darkness and lighting on the set, atmospheric fog and mist obscuring clear views, distorted
and angular film shots, etc. Reed creates a space for the viewer to feel the inner anxieties of the
interwar characters through external cinematic techniques. (Adding to this effect is the setting
itself, which reflects the bombed out and crumbling post war

It can occur in any form, slightly stressful or devastating painful. It can happen to anyone, rich,
poor, big or small. Adversity is inevitable. Most people would consider it very negative with no
benefits, but they are not aware of its hidden effect. Roman poet Horace suggests that adversity can
cause a person to demonstrate certain talents, which would not have been present if not for their
misfortune. People and characters in any literary work experience unfortunate events and put
through difficult situations that they need to overcome. Adversity uncovers their concealed gifts
that help them through their hardships. Under its effect, it also can alter the process in developing

  • 3. New York Trip Research Paper Have you ever visited a place you have never seen before or walked their streets and all of a sudden you start being a person who lives there? Well I have when I went to New York for the first time. My Girl Scout Troop and I decided to take a nice trip to New York. Many of us had never been there before and couldn t wait to see the places and cultural sites New York was known for. For example The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Time Square, and famous Broadway Plays. On our first day we were able to take a ferry ride to the famous Statue of Liberty. While we were there we got to take a tour around it, go inside and then go all the way to the top where the torch is and see the amazing view of all the buildings, the ocean, and the Islands. After we were done with the Statue of Liberty we took the ferry to Ellis Island and had the chance to tour where over 12 million immigrants came to. We got see where the baggage claims and dormitories were, the hospitals, and Wall of Honor. Even though we didn t expect to learn on the trip it was actually fun to learn about what immigrants went through and what they did for years.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. What Is Substantive Conflict Conflict happens when people do not agree in a public situation which developed resentments creating a negative atmosphere among people or group (Schermerhorn, 2011). A person might develop emotional conflict caused by anger, trusting issues and resentment which caused a negative energy that affects other and becomes distracting (Schermerhorn, 2011). For instance, when an employee that is having relationship problems outside work, affects their performance. Also, seeking comfort with other employees can become a stressing situation. In contrast, substantive conflict is related to achieving goals in the workplace (Schermerhorn, 2011). Dealing with coworkers can be challenging because of their cultures. For instance, employees might disagree on task assignments, policies, and rules because of their beliefs (Schermerhorn, 2011). The problems associated with conflict are ignoring the issues. • 5. The Safety Techniques And Management Strategies Essay In today s world, coal is the most commonly used fossil fuel. The coal present in the Pike River Coal Mine had some distinctive qualities. It was bright, lustrous coking coal with several properties that was sought after by the international steel makers. They used coke as a source of fuel for blasting furnaces and carbon was used to bind with iron to produce steel. Therefore, Pike coals unique property of producing low ash and high fluidity made it potentially valuable resource. Underground mining is very hazardous due to some reasons like lack of fresh air, poor ventilation, poor lighting and high level of poisonous gas. Thus, several safety precautions should be taken for the well being of the miners. Due to lack of these safety precautions and poor management strategies, on 19th November 2010 an explosion at Pike River Coal Mine left 29 miners dead. This report will further discuss on the safety techniques and management strategies taken by the three protagonists of Pike River Coal Mine the managers, the state and the workers. OUTSOURCING: Outsourcing is one of the important management strategy that provides wider access to world class capabilities and share risks with a partner company. Outsourcing in mining industry depends on two factors: production factors and capacity based factors. Production factors are mostly related to the strategic level of outsourcing whereas capacity based factors related to the tactical level. The Pike River Coal Management used the ... • 6. How Did The Gaelic League Affect The Irish Dance When I hear the words The Gaelic League , I automatically think of the period when the Irish language was restored in Ireland. I agree with the above statement. The Gaelic League influenced the promotion of the Irish dance tradition greatly in the 20th century as dance was very important. It was a massive part of Irish culture and it maintained Irish identity. It was founded by O Growney and Douglas Hyde in 1893. It established an agency called An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (the commission for Irish dances) in 1930. It was set up to promote and standardize Irish traditional group dancing and solo step dancing. It organised classes, festivals and competitions. An Coimisiun is still around today. In this essay, I will discuss the impact the Gaelic League had on Irish dance, how it spread from Ireland and became global and how it is still very popular today. There is very little reference of Irish dance before the 20th century. The earliest reference was a group dance with various different formations. Before the Gaelic League formed, dance classes were mainly held in rural Munster. There were held simultaneously with language classes. Irish dance became more popular in Ireland as a result of regular weekly classes, competitions and ceili dances. Dance was once forbidden in houses of rural Ireland. In Brennan s article, we learn that during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, this new nationalist designation of the form provided a necessary ingredient to the institutional organization of Irish dancing and the modern competitive model through which the form developed and is practiced today (Cullinane, 2003, p.6). The Gaelic League set up Irish dance schools in the 1920s. The dances that were taught were controlled by the league and had to be Irish. The league organised competitions called feiseanna to promote Irish culture. This also developed more interest in Irish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ethical Considerations For A Crisis Management Plan In order for a crisis management plan to be carried out, a crisis management team will be needed to help the person dealing with a crisis situation. A crisis management team is a team of people that have the knowledge and skills on how to respond and deal with a crisis situation. The crisis management team may compromise of individuals such as teachers, social workers, police officers, nurses, paramedics, psychologists, and school principals. School counselors should also be considered apart as a member of the crisis managementteam because they re trained to know how to respond and help students in crisis situations. In the next heading, the role of the school counselor in crisis managementwill be discussed allowing with ethical and legal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, another ethical consideration for school counselors would be if the student is a danger to themselves or another student, then it s important to disclose that information along with getting their parents involved. The legal considerations that must be applied when responding to a student crisis is that school counselors have a duty to protect students when they re going through a crisis. Going back to the crisis of a student being a danger to another student, school counselors have the legal duty to protect that other student as well as reporting to the authorities (Kanel, 2015). It s important that school counselors know how to collaborate before, during, and after a crisis. Before a crisis, the school counselor can collaborate with teachers and other school staff members by training them and coming up with ways on how to help students during a crisis situation. During a crisis, the school counselor will show other staff members how to comfort students during their time of need in the crisis situation. After a crisis, the school counselor will help staff members by showing them how to help students recover from a crisis as well as providing them resources if they need any more additional help. The way that collaboration assist in a crisis response is that school counselors and staff members come together to work as a team help students heal through a crisis situation (Kelley, 2015). As for a post crisis response, School counselors and staff members must prepare to come up with a plan along with intervention strategies and resources in order to help students recover successfully from a crisis situation. • 8. Assessment Of Spoken And Language The CASL or Comprehensive Assessment of spoken and language was administered by two student clinicians. The Test consists of 15 sub tests in the domains of comprehension, expression, and retrieval in the 4 categories of semantics, syntax, supra linguistics, and pragmatics.. These sub tests are then divided into core or supplementary categories. Core tests are meant to determine basic languagecomponents where as supplementary test are meant to convey further information for a diagnosis. Depending on the client s age, the test can take between thirty minutes to an hour and a half to administer, but overall is not a difficult test and yields useful results. A variety of different factors where taken into account when norming the CASL. The agegroup used was between 3.0 to 21.11 years, and taken from most areas of the country including the Northeast, northwest, central, and west. Fifty percent of these participants were male and fifty percent were female. Almost 70% of this reference population identified as white while about 20% of the reference population was either Hispanic or African American. Based on these norms this test may be better for some populations rather then others. For example, if a clinician has a Hispanic boy from Texas, she may want to use a different test, or at least keep these norms in mind when scoring. Because this test is normed on a large portion of the population, even with a price of about 500 dollars, many clinics would find this test useful to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Mercedez Benz Essay MERCEDES BENZ USA: INVESTING IN IT INFRASTRUCTURE Question 1. How should Settle and his team evaluate the e learning option? What factors should they consider when deciding between eLearning and traditional, classroom based education? Settle should evaluate the eLearning option based on the following principles for delivering value: (1) Have a clearly defined portfolio value management process. In the case, Settle has had a basically financial budget already. There are two vendors that clearly listed to choose, one is RealServer, and the other is Microsoft. (2) Aim for chunks of value. ELearning would enable MBUSA to scale its training systems without building additional training facilities. It improves employee productivity by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (6) Other factors like student access to computers and bandwidth availability is not a problem. Because I have mentioned before that Greg Settle would apply eLearning to a number of technicians that exceed the classroom capacity, those who have access to computers to take the on line courses. In conclusion, the web based distance learning option benefits MBUSA more than adding a training center does. Question 2. Build a financial model to determine if MBUSA should invest in eLearning. Should MBUSA make the investment? What are the key drivers of value? Generally speaking, budgets are means to implement IT strategy, linking the long term goals of the organization and the short term goal execution through the allocation of resources to activities. According to the MBUSA financial model in the excel sheet, the NPV of adding a training center is $167,737,828.11, while the NPV of building web based distance learning is $141,952,163. To pick the one with higher NPV, MBUSA should invest in eLearning. The key drivers of value are: (1) The distance learning system would enable MBUSA to scale its training systems without building additional training facilities, instructor salaries, administrative staff, and building utilities and maintenance. (2) The distance learning system would eliminate the costs of videotapes and other documentation. (3) NetSTAR would eventually reach all dealerships in the MBUSA network. Question 3. • 10. Summary Of Danny Wants A Cup Of Water By John Steinbeck Steinbeck uses imagery and structure to champion his theme that it is peoples intrinsic character that will ultimately push them to survive even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. The passage opens with Steinbeck describing the cars along route 66 as fraught and unable to go on. He personifies them by stating that they are panting and struggling . He also uses a metaphor to compare them with rattling bodies , as if they are the migrant workers themselves. This characterization of the cars is meant to show an analogy between the migrants and the cars since both are on the brink of breaking down at any moment. However, the cars still pushing on down the road also compare to the migrants, but only the ones who have kept fighting.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is able to use the short, yet very powerful story of twelve people in order to strengthen his psychological argument about how people are able to retain their trust and compassion even in such devastating times. This is exemplified through the repetition of Danny wants a cup of water . The first time it is said, Steinbeck uses a simile to describe how the concrete road shone like a mirror since it is so hot that it creates a rippling effect like a wave in the distance, almost as if the road is taunting Danny by containing pools of water when he cannot even have a drop. Because no one has yet acknowledged the thirsty boy, Danny wants a cup of water is repeated. Now, someone prompts a response with a sympathetic tone through the words, poor little fella. Furthermore, the person then demonstrates his persistence in getting the boy some water by saying he will stop at the next service station . Steinbeck has just explained how a majority of the cars are likely to break down at any moment; therefore, the simple fact that the family still decides to drive knowing that they might not make it shows how hopeful they really are. Moreover, with this worry constantly nagging at their minds, they are still able to focus on satisfying the boy s thirst. Steinbeck then transitions into a family that does not have a car, yet the same principle of hope and trust applies to them. They come together as a family and prepare for whatever hardships may come. Though, a man facing the same amount of struggle is able to pick them up, feed them, and take them to California. Now, Steinbeck uses this example to formulate his argument. Neither party expects to meet each other, but both are able to help each other. The family of twelve is able to keep the ... • 12. The “Modern” Classroom. If You Were To Ask A Group Of People THE MODERN CLASSROOM If you were to ask a group of people of varying ages today to describe the word classroom , you would unsurprisingly get a similar response from a majority of the crowd. A box shaped room with rows of small, confining desks, and a whiteboard or chalkboard front and center of the room. The funny thing is that if you were to ask the same question 200 years ago, you would probably get the same response. Why does the classroom of the 21st centurylook so similar to the classrooms of the 1800 s? Have we really gone nearly two centuries without changing our educational environment? The answer, sadly, is yes. However, there are many who believe the classroom needs a major update, and I would have to agree. Although many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, I have taken several online classes that have been less traditional, and more technology driven. However, there were a few problems that arose with these courses: the lack of immediate contact to the instructor; and the lack of interaction with my classmates. If I had a question I wasn t guaranteed immediate feedback. Online interaction can be equally as stimulating, but it can also make you feel like you are all alone in your coursework because of the inherent lack of physical presence (Florida National University). Ultimately this would hinder my learning process, along with the urge to procrastinate on my virtual assignments without the push of a real instructor made online classes a little challenging. Journal Entries for habit Journal Entries for habit one and two Habit 1: Be Proactive According to Stephen Covey, being proactive is part of human nature and humans are responsible for their own lives. He indicated the details of a social map which consist of Genetic determinism (Ancestors), Psychic determinism (Parents) and Environment determinism (Boss or something in the environment). The proactive concept was explained further using the Stimulus and Response relationship and the catalyst story of Viltor Frankl. Between Stimulus and Response, man has the ability or freedom to choose. This means one can decide how to reactive to thing or how to handle each situation. What matters most is how we respond to what we experience in life. We need to take initiative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same way, Algebra comes before calculus. To expatiate on this point, Covey noted that independence is an achievement. Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make. So the place to begin building any relationship is inside ourselves, inside our Circle of Influence, our own character. Stephen further recollected an incidence he had with his two sons to explain what attending to little things meant. To him, Small discourtesies, little unkindnesses, little forms of disrespect make large withdrawals in our lives. In relationship for instance, the little thing are the big things. Keeping commitments, Clarifying expectations, showing personal integrity, apologizing sincerely when we make a withdrawal from our emotional bank are important things to do to make deposits in to our emotional banks. Covey mentioned that, with the paradigm of the Emotional Bank Account in mind, we re ready to move into the habits of Public Victory, or success in working with other people. Habit 4: Think win win (Principles of Interpersonal leadership) Under this heading, Covey narrated his personal experience at work with a company and at the end he noted that, whether you are the president of a company or the janitor, the moment you step from independence into interdependence in any capacity, you step into a leadership role. You are in a position of influencing other people. And the habit of effective interpersonal leadership is to think win win. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Tragedy Of Beowulf By William Shakespeare Ancestry plays an important part in Beowulf, it is the blood that the characters carry that decides their fate. To try to deny destiny, is both courageous yet, for some it is futile. Beowulf s most conflicting character is Grendel, throughout the story you may feel pity for him, and other times you feel hatred for him. Grendellive in a marshy swamp, and is a descendant of Cain, who killed his own blood brother, Abel, out of jealousy. To pay for this ultimate sin, Cain s whole clan was condemned to be outcasts. The apple does not fall far from the tree because Grendel also feels envy towards the people in Heorotfor shunning him away, so he retaliates by killing people without feeling any type of remorse. In the beginning, times were peaceful in Heorot. There would often be banquets in the mead hall and warriors would celebrate their victories. It harrowed him to hear the din of the loud banquet, (Beowulf 43). Grendel was frustrated by all the noise the people made every single day. This may seem as an overreaction, but the reader must look at it from both sides. One can only wonder about the agony Grendel must have went through to hear the people who tormented him, have parties every single day and enjoy themselves. It s no surprise that Grendel ended up snapping and going into a rampage. Although Grendel is dangerous, he only attacks when it is dark outside. People would find that answer reasonable, but in reality, it is an over generalization; there are numerous other variables that play a portion in horrific event shootings. Those who are against gun control have claimed that gun control laws violate citizen s constitutional rights. Numerous citizens would say that neither both in favor and against gun control is right, but when the facts are displayed it is self evident that gun control is not a great solution since guns don t kill people, people kill people . Stopping criminals and put more priority on their punishment is a better solution than restricting citizens the right to own firearms and taking them away. Honor means reputation of excellence and back then in time of Odysseus it didn t necessarily mean one was to be a good person. A motif is a literary technique which is a recurring symbol or idea that establishes the theme or central focus. One of his most famous playwrights is Macbeth, a tragic story about a brave Scottish general named Macbeth that receives a prophecy that he will one day be the King of Scotland. The hyperbole helps emphasize the irrevocable task that Macbeth just did. He s saying that there is not enough water in the world to wash or clean himself of the blood. There is no way for him to get rid of the blood on his hands. He s also saying that everything he touches henceforth will inevitably be tainted by this blood. Within the hyperbole, Macbeth alludes to Neptune, the Roman god of the seas. This shows that not even the water from the god who blesses and protects the seas and water as a whole will be able to wash away his sins and crimes. Blood in this scene represents the extensive guilt that Macbeth feels for killing King Duncan. Macbeth will never be able to return to his true self, the blood will always remain on his hands, and he will forever be haunted with this. The guard is a highly organized arm of the military that can be deployed to any part of the world and for any purpose the commanders of the armed forces see fit. A militia however is defined by the Webster dictionary as a group of citizens called out only in emergencies. The supreme court presented its definition of militia in US vs. Miller (1939): The signification attributed to the term Militia appear from the debates in the convention, the history and legislation of colonies and states, and the writings of approved commentators. These show plainly enough that the Militia comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense... This ruling upheld 10 USC Sec. 311. Israeli Palestinian conflict could be described as a clash that between Israelis and Palestinian Arabs as they attempted to compete the same piece of land briefly (Dowty 2008:1, 4). The reasons that prevent a solution to the Israeli Palestinian problem will be discussed and will be divided into three parts, Israeli reasons, Palestinian reasons and the common problem between two countries. In terms of Palestinian reasons, there are three reasons, the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 181, consequence that Israel was established in 1948 and settlement policy is enforced in Palestinian territory by Israel. For the UNGA Resolution 181, Israeli occupied more territory than Palestinians. In 1947, two state solution was passed in UNGA, Palestine was divided into two states, one for Jewish and one for Arab (El Hasan 2010: 55). However, Arabs occupied 43 45.5% of land in Palestine even the population of Arabs in Palestine was 2/3 (Soderblom 2003). This was unfair to them. In contrast, Palestinians argue that there were only 1/4 of Jews lived in Palestine before 70 AD, this does not mean that Jews lived there can compete the land (Lorimer and Malloy 2002: 7). Statisticians think of conditional probability in both logical and quantitative way. II. Conditional Probability for Statisticians For statisticians, conditional probability is everywhere. They will strictly define the events before computing the conditional probability and use the properties or Bayes theorem to find the conditional probability. Statisticians understand that conditional probability derives from the concept of probability. Probability is a number between zero and one, which measures the likelihood that an event will occur. The bigger the probability is, the more likely this event is going to happen. The conditional probability of event A happens given that event B occurs can be written as P(A|B)=(P(A∩B)) /(P(B)) where P(A∩B) is the probability that both events A and B happen, P(B) is the probability that event B occurs. He realizes he mistakenly killed the wrong man, yet Hamlet shows no sign of regret for killing Polonius. Hamlet s lack of empathy corroborates to the idea that his madness causes him to lose his humanity. In the beginning of the play, Hamlet proves to be meticulous when it comes to attain revenge, however, Hamlet s madness escalated to the point where Polonius is carelessly killed. Hamlet having experienced parental loss and knowing the suffering it brings, in a right state of mind, no sane person would wish that suffering onto another person.
