Drink lots of water every day, but before a long ride or a race, start hyper hydrating twenty four hours
in advance.
Avoid drinks containing alcohol or caffeine because they both make the body excrete more water. If
you can not meet your calorie needs, use sports drinks, recovery drinks or other liquid supplements.
Try to step fluid lost to sweat, practice drinking strategies during your training. Determine how much
sweat you lose by weighing yourself before and after your rides Every pound lost equals sixteen
ounces of fluids. It takes practice to drink more than a quart of fluid per hour without getting cramps
or internal discomfort. A hydration bladder system such as Camelbak, provides water and will help
you drink more (Walsh 94). After you have ridden for a while drink plenty of fluids. What you drink
after the ride can make a difference. Coyle also compared the effects of drinking nearly two liters of
water, sport drinks, or diet cola in athletes two hours after a workout, the results showed diet cola
replenishes 54% of the fluids lost; water, 64%; and sport drinks, 69%. Before or while riding you
should eat salty snacks. Sodium makes your blood like a sponge so you can absorb more water and
excrete less. Athletes such as cyclists should also drink plentiful with meals and snacks, because food
naturally contains many times more sodium than soft drinks or energy

Wlbur Wright Research Paper
THESIS: Wilbur Wright. Wilbur Wright was born in 1867 and was an inventor who with his brother,
Orville, created the first aeroplane. Wilbur Wright faced many challenges along the way and
afterwards, but he also achieved many things. His invention has impacted the entire planet. If he was
alive today, he would probably be running his own company. It is possible to fly without motors, but
not without knowledge or skill Wilbur Wright. Wilbur Wright has achieved many things in his life,
such as creating the first aeroplane and flying it and receiving a medal of honour in 1909. As well as
these achievements he also led a consequential life where he not only created the first plane but also
with Orville ran a bicycle company and a printing company. The creation of the first aeroplane

The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who... looked enviously on the birds

fast transportation, the ability to move swiftly around the planet and explore the skies. If the aeroplane

Post Liberal Era Essay
The Post Liberal Era begins with the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Although Ronald Reagan was one
of the most popular president in United States history, the years he served were not beloved by many.
One example of this was Reverend Jerry Falwell. Reverend Falwell believed that our grand old flag

He seemed to believe that the sex and violence they contained were bad for America as a whole.

Another huge, relevant problem that began budding under the presidency of Ronald Reagan was mass
incarceration. Incarceration rates rose quickly during his term but skyrocketed when President Bill
Clinton passed the Crime Bill according to the sources. The post war period revealed huge rises in the
number of people imprisoned. From a mere 338,029 in 1970, the figures rose to a shocking 2,042,479
in 2001 according to the information supplied by Dr. Barrett. In the document Why Mass
Incarceration Matters by Heather Ann Thompson, it states that Between
1970 and 2010 more people were incarcerated in the United States than were imprisoned in any other
country. What was not surprising was the fact that African Americans once again were the ones who
were the most unfortunate, recording the highest imprisonment rate among all races and sexes. The
numbers before the 1960s do not even compare to the numbers following. For example, numbers
taken from the document show that 35 years before the 1960s, the number of American people
imprisoned had increased by 52,249 people. However, the 35 years after, the same group had
increased by a drastic 1,266,2435. Even with the massive numbers documented in statistics of the
numbers of American citizens incarcerated, historians have ignored this integral piece of the post war
period and failed to recognize its impact. For example, mass incarceration had a direct effect on how
thriving American urban centers became full of poverty

The Yellow Wallpaper And Professions For Women
Women And Domesticity
Domestic work and other types of work that is typically associated with women has always been
undervalued and overlooked. Many types of work fall under the umbrella of domestic labor, such as:
cooking, cleaning, mending, child care, running errands, managing the household, and much more.
This type of work is highly undervalued and often ignored. Many of the works that we have looked at
in this section highlight how many women felt about the domestic sphere that they were placed in. In
this essay I will discuss this point using points from The Yellow Wallpaper and Professions For
Women . Both women commented on the domestic sphere for women and what that meant for them.
The Yellow Wallpaper highlights the separate spheres ideaology, an ideaology that states that men and
women belong in different spheres of society. A woman s place in in the home, where she can carry
out her duties as a wife and mother in private while a man s sphere is the one of the public domain. In
The Yellow Wallpaper a woman is diagnosed with nervous depression after the birth of her baby and
put on a rest cure . She spends the entirity of the story in a bedroom of a house her husbad had rented
out for their summer vacation. Being locked in her bedroom causes her to have a mental breakdown.
Gilman had written The Yellow Wallpaper to describe her own experience with depression and the rest
cure, prescribed by a renowned psychatrist at the time, who prescribed most

The Importance Of Drama In Educational Drama
Research on dramatization activity may not always positively reported. In a non classroom setting,
Milburn and McGrail (1992) , conducted an experimental study to find whether a dramatic
presentations of news stories on TV influence the audiences ability and accuracy in receiving news.
They found that the exposure to the dramatized news stories significantly decreased participants
ability to recall the information from the stories and reduced the complexity of the news. The term of
drama or dramatization in this context of study is used in negative sense . That is, dramatization is
used in reference to the ways TV stations exaggerate the presentation of the news for political or
rating benefits. Unlike Milburn and McGrail s study, this study will take the stance of drama or
dramatization activity as an intervention strategy in education that aims to foster students learning.
In 1934, John Dewey called for the urgency of involving creative expression and exploration in U. S
educational curriculum. Gallagher, et.al. (2017) noted that in and after that period of time, literature in
the United States started to emphasize the insertion of dramatic play or play based improvisation as a
key technique to situate students to express themselves creatively and develop language and thinking
skills, as well as for teachers to see the child s real self Gallagher, et.al., ( 2017) .
Moving forward to 1982, Brian Way (in Dillon and Way , 1981) , stated that

What Is The Friar s Corruption In The Canterbury Tales
One of Englands most famous writer, Geoffrey Chaucer, was known for writing social commentary
and for his ironic descriptions. His most famous work The Canterbury Tales is no exception.
Beginning with the General Prologue Chaucer reveals the corruption he feels is affecting the church.
One need only look at the General Prologue to understand Chaucer s negative feelings towards the
clergy s corruption and greed. Chaucer feels corruption towards The Friar because he is not a religious
figure as he pretends to be. The Friar was pledged to a life of poverty, and since Friars were licensed
to earn money from hearing confessions, that was their only means for supporting themselves, but it
started to get real unprofessional; when they went from place to place collecting donations for the
Church when the money was actually going to them. Friar s intentions were dishonest and would
make money by selling his blessings. He should have been poor even worse than the people he had
helped, but he was living large and eating healthy. One stereotype the Friar would do is travel around
seducing women and bribe them with gifts. He covered up his sin by marrying them off before anyone

wealthy was something that The Monk enjoyed, but having wealthy clothes and jewelrey did not
match his humble corrupted self. All Monks must comitt to god and devote life and prayer, but unlike
this Monk he was careless and disobeyed this rule and spent most of his time eating, hunting and

Comparing Merchant’sThe Death of Nature and Thomas’ Man...
Comparing Merchant sThe Death of Nature and Thomas Man and the Natural World
The works of Carolyn Merchant and Keith Thomas pertain to the same subject matter and even to the
same time period. Nevertheless, in comparing their interpretations of the evidence and the presentation
of their arguments concerning the history of mankind s relationship with nature in Tudor and Stuart
England through the Scientific and Industrial Revolutions, we find that they are quite different.
Merchant presents us with a rather one sided, retrospective attack on science as the root of all
environmental evil, while Thomas offers a relatively neutral, prospective look at how the people of
this time reacted to the changing views of nature and what, exactly, ... Show more content on

She assimilates Bacon s ideas about science and nature into her argument saying, The new man of
science must not think that the inquisition of nature is in any part interdicted or forbidden. Nature
must be bound into service and made a slave, put in constraint and molded by the mechanical arts
(169).
This doctrine of nature as an inert, unfeeling machine that Bacon and his contemporaries advocate so
adamantly seems to have changed forever the belief in organicism, or, that all living beings are an
equal part of nature. The natural magician [the organicist] saw himself as operating within the organic
order of nature he was a manipulator of parts within that system, bringing down the heavenly powers
to the earthly shrine (169). In Merchant s opinion, the abandonment of this organic view of nature in
favor of Bacon s mechanical view led to the death of the world soul and the removal of nature s spirits
which helped to support increasing environmental destruction by removing any scruples that might be
associated with the view that nature was a living organism (227). With this throwing off of the moral
yoke, Bacon and his fellow man were free to do with nature what they would.
Keith Thomas, however, has a very different opinion of science and the role it played in the natural
world in the early modern period. The concept of change is integral to his book, Man and the Natural
World. While Merchant believes that science was the downfall of

Oh Rascal Children Of Gaza And Inside Out

order to demonstrate the theme of appreciating what one may have before it s gone. The poem Oh
Rascal Children of Gaza, written by Khaled Juma, depicts a flashback of when a certain group of
children were present, expressed through the memories of the narrator. In the beginning of the poem,
the narrator has a distinct negative connotation of the children. The poem opens with the line Oh

The narrator of the poem bounces back and forth between what the people of Gaza were experiencing
and what the spectators in Brazil were experiencing. The first change of scenery is seen in lines 1 4 of
the poem, People inside out/on the streets in their loved ones /arms people screaming/in football
stadiums (Beck). The people of Gaza are holding each other because they are scared of the attack,
while the spectators of the World Cup are shouting with passion for their team to make a pass, or score
a goal. Throughout the next few lines of the poem the bombings in Gaza are illustrated, there s an old
woman/who dies holding/her spoon waiting/ for iftar/which comes but so do/the rockets (Beck 10 16).
In the latter of the poem, a very significant and moving shift between the two settings is shown, a
player kisses a trophy/his wife his son/a mother/kisses a dead child/grief inside out (Beck 50 54). The
contrast between the settings themselves is what really emphasizes the poem s theme of appreciating
what one may have, as the player is kissing his wife, son, and trophy, out of joy, but the mother is
kissing her child who has been killed, out of grief. The people viewing the World Cup were oblivious
to the occurrences in Gaza, which is what Zeina Hashem Beck was getting across to the

The Capote Character Analysis
Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his
true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are
innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger
and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using
juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her
dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and
and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased
in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it
had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring
and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded
down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the
dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and
therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most
upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family,
but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus
Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton.
Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed
during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter
property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that
Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to
be burned.. [along with] blood soiled bedclothes, mattresses, a bedside rug, a Teddy bear doll (Capote
78). These items, representing the larger whole of the Clutter property, symbolize everything the

Characterization For Disdemona And Desdemona By William...
Women are often held to different standards than men and an ideal woman is hard to describe, even
harder to find. This paper will explore the views and expectations of how woman are portrayed in the
sixteenth century. In Cinthio s, The Unfaithfulness of Husbands and Wives, Story Seven, an ideal
woman was said to be faithful and a faithful woman would rather commit suicide than to commit
adultery (Cinthio 32), while in Shakespeare s Othello, an ideal woman is said to breastfeed and inquire
about useless matters (2.1.159). Cinthio s and Shakespeare s use of characterization for Disdemona
and Desdemona, respectively, demonstrates that the wives of men in the sixteenth century were to be
gentle servants. Cinthio focuses more on the common stereotypes about women, while Shakespeare
challenges them.
In both text, the women are developed indirectly through their actions and how others view them. In
Cinthio s text, women are advised to stay home and take care of their household; they are to marry
who their parents approve of and are to be submissive and obedient at all times. Disdemona went
against all of these notions. She was deeply in love with the Moor, but she did not fit the criteria of an
ideal woman. Disdemona, for fear that she d be apart from the Moor, wanted to go to war with him,
she married the Moor despite her parent s approval, and she spoke out of turn toward her husband for
the defense of someone else, the Corporal. In the end Disdemona advises marrying a partner

What Is Ultra s Role In Ww2
ULTRA was a code name for information collected from enemy signals during World War II.
Brigadier Bill Williams, a top British intelligence adviser, credited ULTRA with providing the military
with intelligence that would ensure defeat of the Germans. Though this claim is an exaggeration,
ULTRA certainly was an important factor in the triumph of the Allies over the Germans and Italians (
Axis ) during World War II. The insight it provided into the Axis strategies and plans played an
important role in battles on water, land, and in the air. The existence of ULTRA allowed for the British

ULTRA not only informed the Allies of the Axis s fuel and ammunition shortages, it also allowed for
the Allies to further disrupt the Axis oil industry. The extreme effectiveness of the bombing campaign
of the oil industry was having on German military forces was relayed to the Allied forces through
ULTRA. ULTRA also supplied the Allies with the information that the oil and ammunition shortages
were not limited to a section of German forces but existed throughout all of them. A specific example
of the Allies exploitation of this information was during the struggle for domination of the air over
Sicily. During this time ULTRA helped Allied forces locate Axis forces on the airfields in Sicily and
southern Italy. The exploitation of Axis weaknesses were possible with the help of ULTRA intercepts.
ULTRA evened the playing field between the smaller British air force and the Luftwaffe, almost
double the size of the British force during World War II. Air Marshal Arthur Tedder concluded that air
superiority is a condition for all operations, at sea, in land, and in the air and ULTRA certainly aided in

Juno and the Paycock is a tragicomic play written by Sean O Casey. It is set in the 1920s in Dublin,
right after the outbreak of the Irish Civil War.
The scene opens on a two room apartment in Dublin. The furniture and other belongings are sparse
and worn out, revealing the family s financial troubles immediately. The act begins with Juno Boyle
and her daughter Mary discussing the murder of their neighbor Mrs. Tancred s son, written up in the
morning newspaper. Mary s brother Johnny irritably tells them to stop reading and leaves the room.

daughter against Boyle and attempts to point out to Boyle how difficult this must be for their daughter
and the repercussions she will have will affect her the rest of her life. When Johnny is killed, Boyle

Juno has a spiritual transformation as she realizes how inconsiderate and selfish she was when Mrs.
Tancred s son died. Juno is now in the same position as Mrs. Tancred and is extremely remorseful for
her actions and lack of compassion. It took this great tragedy for Juno to realize that she needed to

The portrayal of Socrates, through the book the trial and death of Socrates is one that has created a

Along side commending Socrates for his strong beliefs, and having the courage to stand by those

those in authority). Instead, Socrates is charged with inventing new gods, and in doing so is corrupting
the youth of Athens to whom, Socrates frequently preaches to about his theology. Socrates speech,
however, is not an apology, as the name may suggest but rather an explanation of his beliefs. During
his trial speech, Socrates makes frequent reference to his beliefs explaining that his behavior stems
from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi, which claims that he was the wisest of all men. Although
Socrates is honest and direct about these beliefs, this did not sit well with many of the trial members
who were evaluating him. Despite the fact that Socrates made frequent references to the fact that it is
destined for him to be the wisest of all men, he also recognizes that he does in fact lack in knowledge
when it comes to world affairs. To which, Socrates states only adds to his wisdom as he is aware of the
fact that he does not know everything and that realization alone makes him wiser than most other men.
In his explanation of his behavior, Socrates also adds that part of his duty as a wise man, is to make
sure that he questions the behavior of other wise men to make sure that those men are also aware

The Red Badge Of Courage Essay
Henry Fleming s character changed several times throughout The Red Badge of Courage. These
changes showed how Henry became a man and how he gained the confidence and courage required to
be a soldier. In Chapter 1, Henry is completely engaged in his own thoughts. He daydreams about his
farm, his home, and the conversation he had with his mother. This shows that, at the beginning of the
novel, Henry is excited and has unrealistic ideas of glory. He is a dreamer. He doesn t think of death,
especially not the possibility of his own death. In Chapter 2, Henry starts to connect with the other
soldiers in his regiment. He listens to the soldiers talking the enemy and the coming battle. As he
listens to these stories, Henry doesn t know if they are all true and because he doesn t know if they are
true and whether or not to believe them, he starts to become afraid. He keeps his feelings to himself,
separating himself from the others. In Chapters 3 and 4, Henry s fears and doubts are increased by
rumors from soldiers. At this point in the novel, he has seen battles but has not been part of one yet.
Henry s fear of not knowing what will happen grows because he has not seen the enemy. His fear of
the unknown is greater than the idea of having to face the problem head on.
The first major character change that Henry made was in chapter 5. It is the first day of the first battle
for Henry and the other soldiers. As he forgets his doubt and fears about how he performs, he stands
tall and

Felix Mendelssohn Symphony 4 Essay
Felix Mendelssohn s Symphony No. 4 in A Major, Op. 90 Movement 1 is in sonata allegro form. His
musical style is mostly classical with a few incorporations from the Romantic style. The theme of the
first movement is introduced with violins. The tempo is rather fast and bright which labels the first
movement as allegro vivace. The texture of the movement is created with the addition of the
woodwinds: flutes, clarinets, oboes, horns, and bassoons. The string instruments contain the melody
and the brass accompaniment being the timpani, creates the rhythm of the first movement. The
woodwinds introduce the second theme of the symphony with the accompaniment of the strings. Right
after the first theme is reintroduced, the listener is presented with the last main section of the sonata

In contrast, the tempo of Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major Movement 4 is fast and as
stated in Music: Our Cultural Evolution it is lively with spirit (allegro con spirito). The first theme in
the fourth movement is introduced with the brass instruments and following it are the string
instruments. The beginning of the fourth movement starts out soft, creating a peaceful atmosphere but
there is a sudden shift in the volume to being very loud (fortissimo). Even though the beginning notes
were soft, it was noticeable that they were each accented (subito forte). Although there are sudden
outbreaks within the piece that can be identified as fortissimo, Brahms is able to make the piece sound
unified. The repetition in the middle of the fourth movement strongly expresses the main idea as it is
an effort to make the listener become attentive. The texture of this movement may seem overbearing
but it pulls the piece together as a whole. The orchestra s dominating sound emphasizes the piece s
tonic key being D Major as it should in the last part of any sonata allegro

Duty Day Limits
Different rules apply for Part 121, Part 135, and Part 91 federal regulations when it comes to pilot
duty day limits. Part 121 refers to air carriers such as regional and major airlines. Part 135 refers to
commuter and on demand operations such as corporate and government flights. Part 91 refers to
general aviation such as small aircraft and weekend flyers. Should flight time and rest time
requirements be different between these parts? Part 121 is the most stringent when it comes to pilot
flight hours and rest time. Pilots are limited to 1,000 hours per calendar year, 100 hours per calendar
month, and 30 hours per seven consecutive days. Pilot required rest intervals are nine hours of rest for
flights less than eight hours, 10 hours of rest for flights more than eight hours but less than nine hours,
and 11 hours of rest for flights more than 9 hours. Part 135 is less stringent than Part 121 when it

A White Heron Literary Analysis
Countless stories of various heroes and heroines have all followed the same cycle from the beginning
to the conclusion of a hero s life. The cycle begins from an event affecting the hero s life leading them
on a quest that is typically filled with some form of adventure. The hero is equipped for the quest with
a type of power or aid from the supernatural to support them against trials. Typically, the trials are
used to prove a hero s worth and even bring a change of behavior within the character. A difficult
sacrifice is then made by the hero as they near the end of their journey, and will come to experience
either physical or metaphorical death, to which they are rewarded significantly. The short literature
titled A White Heron, written by Sarah Orne Jewett, fits the hero archetype by the main character
experiencing a sudden adventure full of trials to the reward of the quest s completion.
Within the story, A White Heron, the reader is first introduced to the young main character, Sylvia,
whose everyday life is interrupted by an unexpected event. As Sylvia is leading her cow home through
the forest, she hears an unusual whistle. Her curiosity leads her to meeting a seemingly lost, yet
handsome man she had never seen before. Sylvia learns that the man is a hunter, and especially has a
passion for hunting birds. The hunter claims he is specifically looking for a white heron and he is
willing to give Sylvia and her grandmother 10 dollars if she finds its nest for him.

Role Of Fate In Macbeth
What s your fate? One of life s greatest and most sought after questions is What is my purpose on this
Earth? While this question seems simple on the surface, it has led many to search near and far to
uncover the truth about their destiny. In the play Macbeth, William Shakespeare applies the concepts
of living by and searching for your fate. Macbeth is a play about a tragic hero, Macbeth. He is
honorable and loyal in the onset of the story, but he quickly takes a veer for the worse. When he is told
his vaticination by the three witches he becomes consumed with this proposition that he will become
king. This prophecy ultimately is what turns him insane. Shortly after losing his sanity, he proceeds to

Macbeth comes to rely on the witches throughout the book to help guide him on his journey to destiny.
During his final meeting with them, he gets told this, Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff,
/ Beware the thane of Fife. Dismiss me. Enough. (4.1,94). The apparitions foretell Macduff will be an
issue for Macbeth, and on his way to destiny that he must be cautious when dealing with him. The
apparitions are foreshadowing events that will lead to Macbeth s tragic downfall and to the fulfilment
of his fate. After being told that he needs to undergo vigilance when dealing with Macduff, Macbeth
tries to do everything in his power to make sure that he can hold on to royalty for his family. He
explains to Lennox that The castle of Macduff I will surprise, / Seize upon Fife, give to th edge o th

though Macduff was not born from a woman and supposedly cannot stop Macbeth s kin from
becoming king, Macbeth takes the extra precaution to eliminate all potential enemies because his fate
has such an enormous impact on his life. Macbeth takes it upon himself to make sure that no one will
cease him from his fate, even if it includes murdering a whole bloodline. Finally, after

Biochemical Test E. Coli
I had discovered that my unknown microbe is Escherichia coli (E. coli). After performing various
biochemical tests E. coli seemed to fit my microbe the best with only having two misguided
biochemical tests that had not fit the data. The tests that were performed included the MRVP test,
catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM
test, TSI test, and starch test. These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests.
The first biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl Red and

was Methyl Red positive and Vages Proskauer negative. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This test is used to see if the microbe can hydrolyzes urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide. When there
is an alkaline environment the color turns to pink. Turning pink would present a positive result. The
SIM test tested negative for sulfur reduction presenting no sign of the color black, positive for indole
production presenting the color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to
differentiate enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For testing a
wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for triple sugar iron agar, my
results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was
a lactose fermenter. The test is used to see the fermentation of lactose, glucose, and sucrose. The last
test I had done was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have
been negative. A halo may or may not be seen with the presents of iodine. When a halo is present it is
positive, starch is present. When a halo is not present it means there is an absence of starch. When the
media is positive it means that extracellular enzymes are capable of diffusing into the medium. E. coli

Modernism Is a Prodigious Movement
Modernism was a prodigious movement in England and America during the period between 1860 to
the 1970s. It was developed as a literary stance that responded to Victorian aesthetic moral precepts
and literary techniques. It permeated many disciplines, from which included literature and philosophy.
The concept of Modernism is widely expressed throughout poetry literature. Wystan Hugh Auden and
William Carlos Williams, were from the first few who endorsed modernist views through their written
work. Auden s poem, Stop all The Clocks, publicly declared his homosexuality which, at that time
was extremely subversive and prohibited. Likewise, In This is Just to Say, Carlos Williams breaks
away from the standardised complexity of traditional poetry and expresses his sentiment through utter
simplicity that mayn t have appeared to be of any value. In consequence, both poems are able convey
modernist concepts through which render detached views from the society s norm in the early 20th
century.
The opening of a new decade in the 20th century, had brought on a new era of vista of human
prospects. It put into question previously accepted means in consequence of evaluating and assessing
the worth of new ideas. It was a new approach to society s standardised conceptions, and was marked
by experimentation and manipulation through the apprehension that knowledge is not absolute.
Modernism released us from the constraints of everything that had gone before with a euphoric sense

Comparing Beowulf And The Arabian Nights
Stories have existed as roots to different cultures for ages, each explaining hidden secrets or
information that might have been unattainable beforehand. However, each author has a different style
of writing and each storyteller shares a different voice to their audience. When reading certain stories
one can understand the fundamental differences amongst cultures. In particular, Beowulf translated by
Burton Raffel and The Arabian Nights which is a compilation of various authors. These two tales from
completely different areas of the world may seem wildly different, but surprisingly enough their
culture may be more similar than originally thought. The two national epics listed explain different
things about their culture, but surprisingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the topic of love comes about, both cultures appear to have different ideas regarding the topic.
The Arabian Nights has quite a few stories regarding this topic, whilst Beowulf seems to hardly ever
reference it. This already tells the reader that while one culture has much to do with love, the other
perhaps only has marriages for an heir. The Arabian Nights also usually has the theme of how love and
desire lead to trouble and makes one act foolishly, perhaps because half of a relationship usually
includes a woman. The stories also share different views on brawn versus brains. Beowulf prefers the
former and The Arabian Nights, the latter. When encountering enemies, Beowulf only uses his bare
hands or a sword to overcome his enemies whereas in The Arabian Nights trickery and cleverness are
used. This then shows that the English culture prefers to leap before they look and rush into situations
while Saudi Arabia prioritizes thought process and intelligence. Once again the stories also differ
when it comes to wealth. Although both stories incorporate wealth into their tales, Beowulf seems to
exalt it while The Arabian Nights tend to turn more away from it. This may be attributed to the fact
that the English wanted to be rich more than anything and viewed money as one of the highest
priorities in life, and Saudi Arabia preferred beauty and wisdom. Either way, both cultures express
many differences when their National Epics are looked

Why Software Should Be Free By Richard Stallman

In the paper Why Software Should Be Free written by Richard Stallman, he argued that developers
should develop free software. In the paper, Stallman justified his belief of the free software movement.
Stallman believes that free software can be defined with the four essential freedoms: the freedom to
run the program however the users like, the freedom to modify the source code so that it does different
computing, the freedom to distribute copies of the program, and the freedom to distribute the modified
copies to others. In his justifications of his stand on free software, he argues that people will still have
the initiative to develop software even though they know that it will be freely distributed. Hence,
Stallman believes that one of the main goals for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stallman first reminded the readers that institutions do not have to be software houses to be able to
pay programmers. Stallman then brought out his own experience of making a living for six years as a
free software developer. Stallman talked about his experience of him being hired from other
institutions to make improvements for free software. He explained that these institutions are able to
fund programmers by using the money from donations from computer manufacturers. Lastly, Stallman
justified that although free software developer realized that they are getting paid at least half of what
they could make elsewhere, they do this because they will be free from bureaucracy, and they feel
good about themselves. They feel good about themselves because they know their works are for the
greater good for humanity. Hence, Stallman once again confirmed that we do not have to worry that
no one will program, since programming is the most fascinating of all fields according to

Analysis Of The Last Supper
The Last Supper by leonardo da vinci, This is a significant piece of italian high renaissance artwork
(This artwork is known as the first high renaissance aesthetics) and is still known as one of the best
works of christian art. This scene by leonardo depicts the last days of jesus christ on earth. In the
gospel of John 13:21 it states Verily I say unto you: one of you will betray me . Though this artwork
may look like a strong biblical depiction on first take. It is a much more complex piece of artwork. To
analyze this painting we will first take a look at the apostles themselves. Starting from the left and
working to the right. There are four easily recognisable groups of three. The first group Bartholomew,
James and Andrew, Their reactions to the news shocked. The group to the right of Andrew is Judas
iscariot who is taken back at this, beside him is peter who is clenching a knife and looks blustery. The
youngest of the apostles John is overcome by the news and faint. The third group is Thomas is simply
upset, Followed by james who is very shocked almost as if he has been slapped. Philips is looking
around and wanting an explanations as to why. For the final group Jude along with Mathew look
towards simon asking for some type answers. This paintings is even unique just for the placement of
one apostles in particular this being judas. In many past portrayals of this scene Judas is the only one
not wearing a halo or instead is put alone of to the side by himself or is

Another huge, relevant problem that began budding under the presidency of Ronald Reagan was mass incarceration. Incarceration rates rose quickly during his term but skyrocketed when President Bill Clinton passed the Crime Bill according to the sources. The post war period revealed huge rises in the number of people imprisoned. From a mere 338,029 in 1970, the figures rose to a shocking 2,042,479 in 2001 according to the information supplied by Dr. Barrett. In the document Why Mass Incarceration Matters by Heather Ann Thompson, it states that Between 1970 and 2010 more people were incarcerated in the United States than were imprisoned in any other country. What was not surprising was the fact that African Americans once again were the ones who were the most unfortunate, recording the highest imprisonment rate among all races and sexes. The numbers before the 1960s do not even compare to the numbers following. For example, numbers taken from the document show that 35 years before the 1960s, the number of American people imprisoned had increased by 52,249 people. However, the 35 years after, the same group had increased by a drastic 1,266,2435. Even with the massive numbers documented in statistics of the numbers of American citizens incarcerated, historians have ignored this integral piece of the post war period and failed to recognize its impact. For example, mass incarceration had a direct effect on how thriving American urban centers became full of poverty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a non classroom setting, Milburn and McGrail (1992) , conducted an experimental study to find whether a dramatic presentations of news stories on TV influence the audiences ability and accuracy in receiving news. They found that the exposure to the dramatized news stories significantly decreased participants ability to recall the information from the stories and reduced the complexity of the news. The term of drama or dramatization in this context of study is used in negative sense . That is, dramatization is used in reference to the ways TV stations exaggerate the presentation of the news for political or rating benefits. Unlike Milburn and McGrail s study, this study will take the stance of drama or dramatization activity as an intervention strategy in education that aims to foster students learning. In 1934, John Dewey called for the urgency of involving creative expression and exploration in U. S educational curriculum. Gallagher, et.al. (2017) noted that in and after that period of time, literature in the United States started to emphasize the insertion of dramatic play or play based improvisation as a key technique to situate students to express themselves creatively and develop language and thinking skills, as well as for teachers to see the child s real self Gallagher, et.al., ( 2017) . One need only look at the General Prologue to understand Chaucer s negative feelings towards the clergy s corruption and greed. Chaucer feels corruption towards The Friar because he is not a religious figure as he pretends to be. The Friar was pledged to a life of poverty, and since Friars were licensed to earn money from hearing confessions, that was their only means for supporting themselves, but it started to get real unprofessional; when they went from place to place collecting donations for the Church when the money was actually going to them. Friar s intentions were dishonest and would make money by selling his blessings. He should have been poor even worse than the people he had helped, but he was living large and eating healthy. One stereotype the Friar would do is travel around seducing women and bribe them with gifts. He covered up his sin by marrying them off before anyone could ... Comparing Merchant sThe Death of Nature and Thomas Man and the Natural World The works of Carolyn Merchant and Keith Thomas pertain to the same subject matter and even to the same time period. Nevertheless, in comparing their interpretations of the evidence and the presentation of their arguments concerning the history of mankind s relationship with nature in Tudor and Stuart England through the Scientific and Industrial Revolutions, we find that they are quite different. Merchant presents us with a rather one sided, retrospective attack on science as the root of all environmental evil, while Thomas offers a relatively neutral, prospective look at how the people of this time reacted to the changing views of nature and what, exactly, ... She assimilates Bacon s ideas about science and nature into her argument saying, The new man of science must not think that the inquisition of nature is in any part interdicted or forbidden. Nature must be bound into service and made a slave, put in constraint and molded by the mechanical arts (169). This doctrine of nature as an inert, unfeeling machine that Bacon and his contemporaries advocate so adamantly seems to have changed forever the belief in organicism, or, that all living beings are an equal part of nature. The natural magician [the organicist] saw himself as operating within the organic order of nature he was a manipulator of parts within that system, bringing down the heavenly powers to the earthly shrine (169). In Merchant s opinion, the abandonment of this organic view of nature in favor of Bacon s mechanical view led to the death of the world soul and the removal of nature s spirits which helped to support increasing environmental destruction by removing any scruples that might be associated with the view that nature was a living organism (227). With this throwing off of the moral yoke, Bacon and his fellow man were free to do with nature what they would. Keith Thomas, however, has a very different opinion of science and the role it played in the natural world in the early modern period. The people of Gaza are holding each other because they are scared of the attack, while the spectators of the World Cup are shouting with passion for their team to make a pass, or score a goal. • 16. The Capote Character Analysis Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton. Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to be burned.. • 17. Characterization For Disdemona And Desdemona By William... Women are often held to different standards than men and an ideal woman is hard to describe, even harder to find. This paper will explore the views and expectations of how woman are portrayed in the sixteenth century. In Cinthio s, The Unfaithfulness of Husbands and Wives, Story Seven, an ideal woman was said to be faithful and a faithful woman would rather commit suicide than to commit adultery (Cinthio 32), while in Shakespeare s Othello, an ideal woman is said to breastfeed and inquire about useless matters (2.1.159). Cinthio s and Shakespeare s use of characterization for Disdemona and Desdemona, respectively, demonstrates that the wives of men in the sixteenth century were to be gentle servants. Cinthio focuses more on the common stereotypes about women, while Shakespeare challenges them. In both text, the women are developed indirectly through their actions and how others view them. In Cinthio s text, women are advised to stay home and take care of their household; they are to marry who their parents approve of and are to be submissive and obedient at all times. Disdemona went against all of these notions. She was deeply in love with the Moor, but she did not fit the criteria of an ideal woman. Disdemona, for fear that she d be apart from the Moor, wanted to go to war with him, she married the Moor despite her parent s approval, and she spoke out of turn toward her husband for the defense of someone else, the Corporal. He is a dreamer. He doesn t think of death, especially not the possibility of his own death. In Chapter 2, Henry starts to connect with the other soldiers in his regiment. He keeps his feelings to himself, separating himself from the others. In Chapters 3 and 4, Henry s fears and doubts are increased by rumors from soldiers. At this point in the novel, he has seen battles but has not been part of one yet. Henry s fear of not knowing what will happen grows because he has not seen the enemy. His fear of the unknown is greater than the idea of having to face the problem head on. The first major character change that Henry made was in chapter 5. The cycle begins from an event affecting the hero s life leading them on a quest that is typically filled with some form of adventure. The hero is equipped for the quest with a type of power or aid from the supernatural to support them against trials. Typically, the trials are used to prove a hero s worth and even bring a change of behavior within the character. The tests that were performed included the MRVP test, catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM test, TSI test, and starch test. These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests. The first biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl Red and Vages Proskauer test. It is a broth containing peptone, buffers, and dextrose or glucose. My microbe was Methyl Red positive and Vages Proskauer negative. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This test is used to see if the microbe can hydrolyzes urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide. When there is an alkaline environment the color turns to pink. Turning pink would present a positive result. The SIM test tested negative for sulfur reduction presenting no sign of the color black, positive for indole production presenting the color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to differentiate enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For testing a wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for triple sugar iron agar, my results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was a lactose fermenter. The test is used to see the fermentation of lactose, glucose, and sucrose. The last test I had done was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have been negative. A halo may or may not be seen with the presents of iodine. When a halo is present it is positive, starch is present. When a halo is not present it means there is an absence of starch. When the media is positive it means that extracellular enzymes are capable of diffusing into the medium. E. coli is supposed to be starch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Modernism Is a Prodigious Movement Modernism was a prodigious movement in England and America during the period between 1860 to the 1970s. It was developed as a literary stance that responded to Victorian aesthetic moral precepts and literary techniques. It permeated many disciplines, from which included literature and philosophy. The concept of Modernism is widely expressed throughout poetry literature. Wystan Hugh Auden and William Carlos Williams, were from the first few who endorsed modernist views through their written work. Auden s poem, Stop all The Clocks, publicly declared his homosexuality which, at that time was extremely subversive and prohibited. Likewise, In This is Just to Say, Carlos Williams breaks away from the standardised complexity of traditional poetry and expresses his sentiment through utter simplicity that mayn t have appeared to be of any value. In consequence, both poems are able convey modernist concepts through which render detached views from the society s norm in the early 20th century. The opening of a new decade in the 20th century, had brought on a new era of vista of human prospects. It put into question previously accepted means in consequence of evaluating and assessing the worth of new ideas. It was a new approach to society s standardised conceptions, and was marked by experimentation and manipulation through the apprehension that knowledge is not absolute. Modernism released us from the constraints of everything that had gone before with a euphoric sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Comparing Beowulf And The Arabian Nights Stories have existed as roots to different cultures for ages, each explaining hidden secrets or information that might have been unattainable beforehand. However, each author has a different style of writing and each storyteller shares a different voice to their audience. When reading certain stories one can understand the fundamental differences amongst cultures. In particular, Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel and The Arabian Nights which is a compilation of various authors. These two tales from completely different areas of the world may seem wildly different, but surprisingly enough their culture may be more similar than originally thought. The two national epics listed explain different things about their culture, but surprisingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the topic of love comes about, both cultures appear to have different ideas regarding the topic. The Arabian Nights has quite a few stories regarding this topic, whilst Beowulf seems to hardly ever reference it. This already tells the reader that while one culture has much to do with love, the other perhaps only has marriages for an heir. The Arabian Nights also usually has the theme of how love and desire lead to trouble and makes one act foolishly, perhaps because half of a relationship usually includes a woman. The stories also share different views on brawn versus brains. Beowulf prefers the former and The Arabian Nights, the latter. When encountering enemies, Beowulf only uses his bare hands or a sword to overcome his enemies whereas in The Arabian Nights trickery and cleverness are used. This then shows that the English culture prefers to leap before they look and rush into situations while Saudi Arabia prioritizes thought process and intelligence. Once again the stories also differ when it comes to wealth. Although both stories incorporate wealth into their tales, Beowulf seems to exalt it while The Arabian Nights tend to turn more away from it. This may be attributed to the fact that the English wanted to be rich more than anything and viewed money as one of the highest priorities in life, and Saudi Arabia preferred beauty and wisdom. Either way, both cultures express many differences when their National Epics are looked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Why Software Should Be Free By Richard Stallman Vincent Jonany Term Paper INFO 450 06/06/15 In the paper Why Software Should Be Free written by Richard Stallman, he argued that developers should develop free software. In the paper, Stallman justified his belief of the free software movement. Stallman believes that free software can be defined with the four essential freedoms: the freedom to run the program however the users like, the freedom to modify the source code so that it does different computing, the freedom to distribute copies of the program, and the freedom to distribute the modified copies to others. In his justifications of his stand on free software, he argues that people will still have the initiative to develop software even though they know that it will be freely distributed. Stallman first reminded the readers that institutions do not have to be software houses to be able to pay programmers. Stallman then brought out his own experience of making a living for six years as a free software developer. Stallman talked about his experience of him being hired from other institutions to make improvements for free software. He explained that these institutions are able to fund programmers by using the money from donations from computer manufacturers. Lastly, Stallman justified that although free software developer realized that they are getting paid at least half of what they could make elsewhere, they do this because they will be free from bureaucracy, and they feel good about themselves. They feel good about themselves because they know their works are for the greater good for humanity. Hence, Stallman once again confirmed that we do not have to worry that no one will program, since programming is the most fascinating of all fields according to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Analysis Of The Last Supper The Last Supper by leonardo da vinci, This is a significant piece of italian high renaissance artwork (This artwork is known as the first high renaissance aesthetics) and is still known as one of the best works of christian art. This scene by leonardo depicts the last days of jesus christ on earth. In the gospel of John 13:21 it states Verily I say unto you: one of you will betray me . Though this artwork may look like a strong biblical depiction on first take. It is a much more complex piece of artwork. To analyze this painting we will first take a look at the apostles themselves. Starting from the left and working to the right. There are four easily recognisable groups of three. The first group Bartholomew, James and Andrew, Their reactions to the news shocked. The group to the right of Andrew is Judas iscariot who is taken back at this, beside him is peter who is clenching a knife and looks blustery. The youngest of the apostles John is overcome by the news and faint. The third group is Thomas is simply upset, Followed by james who is very shocked almost as if he has been slapped. Philips is looking around and wanting an explanations as to why. For the final group Jude along with Mathew look towards simon asking for some type answers. This paintings is even unique just for the placement of one apostles in particular this being judas. In many past portrayals of this scene Judas is the only one not wearing a halo or instead is put alone of to the side by himself or is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
