Perseverance In Kingdom Of Heaven
Kingdom of Heaven is a movie about a blacksmith named Balian turned crusader/knight after his wife
kills herself. Balian goes to Jerusalem to relieve her place in hell with his father Godfrey who came to
take him to the holy land . Along the way Godfrey is killed leaving Balian with his sword, and shortly
after during a ship ride to Jerusalem the ship Balian is on shipwrecks leaving Balian stranded on a
beach near dunes. Amongst the shipwreck is a horse which Balian frees without being able to ride but
later is found while wandering in the desert, when the horse is captured by Balian 2 men arrive, 1
claiming that he stole the horse and tries fighting Balian. Balian kills the man and takes the second
man who claimed was the 1st s servant as his prisoner and has him guide them to Jerusalem. Upon
arriving in Jerusalem Balian frees the servant and is told Your qualities will be known among your
enemies before ever you meet them . While in Jerusalem a crusader notices the sword given to Balian
by his father and takes him to Jerusalem s political party where he meets Princess Sibylla who likes

Throughout my own life I ve shown perseverance through workouts that I refuse to give up on or
getting up grades in the past although I had Ds and Fs. Perseverance is a very important trait in life
that is needed for multiple reasons, whether it be through keeping your head straight when surrounded
by temptations or pushing to do your part every day. I can show perseverance in schoolwork, keeping
up with new boy training, and persevering through being homesick and missing my girlfriend. It can
be hard to keep persevering everyday but nevertheless it is essential for everyone, without having
constant perseverance the world would be in turmoil, jobs wouldn t be done, resources wouldn t be
obtained and history would be drastically

The Tortilla Curtain Quotes
A 2009 study by Phillippa Lally, a health psychology researcher at UCL, entitled How long does it
take to form a habit , found that on average it takes 66 days for a habit or thought to become ingrained.
This can be from different influences that are seen around and done to people. Us as humans grow
mostly from personal experience, for better or for worse. In this case, it is for worse. Delaney
Mossbacher, one of the main characters, is an average white male living in a small estate called
Arroyo Blanco, where most of the wealthy and middle class live. The fact that he lives there makes it
easier for him to have the mindset that he should act and be his social status, which is the better than
everyone attitude. In the novel, the Tortilla Curtain by T.C Boyle, Delaney Mossbacher s point of view
shifts from a liberal to a racist due to courses of unlucky events. Those events being him hitting

wandering how Candido was there to begin with and what he was doing with the shopping cart.
Convincingly enough, Delaney s shifts his guilty conscious to anger and points out the negatives in
this situation to relieve himself. He stresses himself out thinking about Candido s safety that he stops
to pin his anger, assumptions, and confusion on him instead, especially since he is Mexican. When he
calls his wife, Kyra, about the incident, he specifically points out his race in hopes of getting the same

Essay Execution by Hunger
Execution by Hunger Miron Dolot. Execution By Hunger: New York: W.W. Norton Company Inc.,
1985
Miron Dolot s book, EXECUTION BY HUNGER, is a detailed account as seen through the eyes of a
true survivor during the reign of Stalin and the Soviet Union between 1929 1933. In his accounts, he
portrays atrocities against human civilization while documenting his real life experiences and those of
his fellow Ukrainian village farmers. He portrays them as victims of their own time period. Victims of
a new wave of political beliefs, namely collectivization were enforced by Stalin and his followers in
the name of Communism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The collectivization began with the infiltration of about ten men per village from the communist party
and the soviet government known as Twenty Five Thousanders. They were an elite group with
unlimited power and weapons. They gradually arrested dignitaries and influential villagers such as
Priest Bondar. The villages were becoming defenseless and had no leaders to look up to.
Propagandists took over homes and left families with nothing but the clothes they had on. This was
the pattern throughout the entire region in all of the villages. It set neighbor against neighbor, brother
against brother all in the name of survival. Once someone you knew joined the collective farm, he was
no longer your friend.
The infiltration expanded into the exploitation of the farmers. They were held captives of their own
free will on their own lands. Overwhelmed by the Party, resistance was fruitless since they were
persuaded by sleep deprivation, humiliation, and degradation. The people became broken spirits in
appearance. It was a silent war between the communists and the collective farmers. Dolot exhibits a
hidden pride in the farmers by writing of their subtle resistances, sabotages, and stubborn survival.
They may have been beaten but they really were not broken. Some lived on.
There is little known about this

Processing and Manufacturing of Cheese
Cheese has been used for centuries in an effort to preserve the nutrition available in milk. Today, more
than fourteen hundred types of cheese exist, each with a distinct taste. (Thompson, 2007)The
manufacturing of cheese is through several processes that are, pasteurization, adding additives, milk
ripening and coagulation, curd treatment and finally cheese ripening. (Goff, 1995)
PH monitoring, along with the casein to moisture ratio, is the most important step that determines
cheese texture. Certain cheese varieties, such as Swiss, Gouda and Cheshire cheese exhibit a narrower
range of pH as compared to Cheddar cheese. Starter cultures are used to achieve the desired pH
needed for fermentation. In order to reach the optimum pH, the temperature, content of lactose and the
products produced during fermentation are closely monitored. This stage of the cheese making process
is called ripening. (Ardo Waagner, 2011). The minimum pH used for the production of different types
of cheese is given in the graph below. (Ardo Waagner, 2011)
Camembert, Feta and Danablu are low pH cheese varities, where as, Cheddar cheese utilizes a
medium minimum pH. High pH cheese varieties include Mozzarella, Tilsiter, Havarti, Gouda, Danbo
and the Emmental groups. (Ardo Waagner, 2011) Starter cultures are microorganisms that are used in
the production of cultured milk products. Lactic acid bacteria, LAB, are the most frequently used
microorganisms in the production of cheese. They help lower the

Branched Chain Amino Acid As A Supplement For Long...
Branched Chain Amino Acid as a Supplement for Long Duration Exercise
Introduction
Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) are composed of three essential amino acids including
leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They are unique in that they are predominantly metabolized outside of
the liver in the skeletal muscle. BCAAs make up 35 40% of the amino acid pool in the body and exist
in high concentrations in skeletal muscle tissue (Shimomura et al, 2006). While the supplemental
dosage is dependent upon on the type of exercise,, body composition, and dietary intake, a standard
dosage of the combination of BCAAs is 20g, of leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Other ratio
combinations are available as well as individual supplement products of leucine and isoleucine.
BCAA supplementation is often taken before, during, and after exercise. It has been observed that
BCAAs potentiate the effects of exercise by their anabolic processes on protein metabolism by
increasing the rate of muscle protein synthesis and decreasing the rate of muscle protein breakdown
(Karlsson et al., 2004). Moreover, it has been theorized that BCAAs may improve performance,
reduce muscle fatigue, and feelings of muscle soreness.
Review of Literature
Various studies have demonstrated that BCAAs promote activation of protein synthesis, reduced
muscle degradation, and reduce perceived feelings of muscle fatigue. All human studies reviewed used

Cooperative Learning Reflection
Following our presentation of why cooperative learning benefits students in mathematics, we hoped
the class would be able to distinguish the differences between direct learning environments from
cooperative learning. Additionally, we hoped the class would understand how all students become
active participants in their learning through cooperative learning and receive higher academic success.
Lastly, it was a goal of ours that the class recognized the acquired skills students gain from
cooperative learning and why it should be incorporated in their future classroom.
Overall our mini lesson went smooth, but we for sure had a few bumps throughout the presentation.
We successfully presented the benefits of cooperative learning and how achievement scores are higher
in mathematics when this approach is taken. However, we struggled with application to the real world
and how we as future educators should implement cooperative learning into our classrooms. Content
wise our group did a strong job focusing on distinguishing the differences in two different classroom
approaches, such as direct learning versus cooperative learning. Through multiple research studies we
were able to express to the class the benefits students receive when actively engaged in a cooperative
learning environment. We used the textbook definition for cooperative learning and an in class
presentation to define direct learning, which helped assist the class in understanding the differences,
especially because

Analysis Of Tongues By John Lyons
Out of curiosity, two friends decide to sneak through the back door of a recently deserted old mansion.
They explore in silence for fear of the unknown. The first person ahead constantly looks back at the
second person. What is bound to go through the second person s mind? Is it unsafe ahead? Is
something wrong? What is the person ahead trying to communicate? That is an example of how a
horse would feel when led by a human who looks back at him. Remember, horses rely on good
leadership for survival. So, with the human constantly looking back, it tells the horse that the person is
not safe to follow. The human is not a leader. Leadership is guiding another with confidence. Clear
communication achieves harmony with the horse through body language ... Show more content on

Humans typically think of horses as just animals. Firstly, horses are intelligent creatures with different
personalities, abilities, and sensitivities. Humans should realize that each horse has a different need
and that each training requirement is different. In the second place, people often comment that their
horses are too senseless to need a choice. A while back, I read a story about a mare who was dying
from fighting an illness and exhaustion. Before she died, she walked for days across exposed moors
leading her foal to the safety of a farm where she died less than twenty four hours later. She died after
knowing her foal was safe. Does that sound like a senseless horse? A horse with that much
intelligence, to have no choice during training? It is inconceivable. Horses are not incapable of
understanding communication; it is up to the human not to send out mixed signals. In the third place,
when the human sends the horse away during equine training, the person is giving the horse a choice.
Either the horse will stay away or come back to safety. When the person gives the horse a choice, the
horse is very willing to work. Another example is when a horse is standing next to the human, and the
horse starts to bump the person with his head; signs of trying to dominate the human, the person will
move the horse away. The first inclination of the animal is to come back where the person is

The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves
Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric
charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely
portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell s conditions, which were
obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and
movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate
Newton s law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge, energy, control, as well
as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the electrical in electrical designing
and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his
famous equations, the doors opened up for significant research into the application of electromagnetic
waves in every day life (Becker Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell s theory was
that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even
though it was assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in
space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with
the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The branch of electrical engineering has
conveyed four wonders sets of marvels that could each be viewed as genuine

also a Trademark Law Treaty (TLT) that has been adopted in Geneva on October 27, 1994, that was
meant to advice contracting States not to burden the trade mark applicants or proprietors with
requirements over and above those laid down in the Treaty. The requirements can be in the form of
administrative requirements of the national offices of contracting parties by establishing standards for
registration, changes after registration and the renewal of trademarks, in an attempt to simplify and
harmonize procedures. In fact, the TLT had specified that other than cases of surrender of

Unfortunately, there are huge disparities of the national laws on trade marks of the Member States
which resulted in an adverse impact on the internal market. Therefore, the creation on a unitary trade
mark system in the Community was a logical development in the creation of a Common Market . One
of the earliest legislative in EU is The First Council Directive 89/104/EEC (hereinafter Harmonisation
Directive). The main objective if this legislation was to minimise the differences between the national
trade mark systems. These differences present barriers to trade and affect free movement of goods and
services, thereby hindering the development of a single market. The Harmonisation Directive does not
disturb the policies on procedure and is restricted to guidelines on substance. Even though the
Harmonisation Directive which covers a wide range of issues and is hailed by the harmonization
enthusiasts, the part such as the national trade mark office s ex officio managing of grounds for refusal
are still absent and not settled by the Directive. Therefore, in terms of single market requirements, the
directive s target of harmonization could still not be described as being totally in conformity with the
single market

Best Hurricane Shutters
How To Choose The Best Hurricane Shutters For Your Home When you live in an area where
hurricanes are possible, it s a good idea to prepare for one in advance, especially when it comes to
protecting your windows. You don t want to be frantically trying to find plywood and cut it into
window coverings at the last minute. Hurricane shutters are worth the investment since you can have
them already installed and ready to go as soon as you need them. There are a few choices when it
comes to hurricane shutters. Here are some tips for how to choose the best ones for your home.
Shutters That Are Controlled Remotely Many hurricane shutters have to be installed or rolled down
manually. However, you can also buy shutters that operate with a remote or wall switch. These also
have a battery backup so you can operate them even when the power is out. You can also turn your
tablet or smartphone into a remote control and close the shutters if you re away from home. If you
have a vacation home in hurricane country, these shutters would be ideal. They are also a good choice
if you want to open and close them from inside your house so you can peek outside and avoid going
outside in the rain to unlock the shutters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All you have to do when a hurricane approaches is drop the shutters and lock them in place. These can
be made of metal, vinyl, or wood. When the storm passes, the shutters are rolled back to a box above
or to the sides of the windows until they are needed again, or they are propped back up on their legs. If
you don t like the appearance of shutters that roll into boxes, you can get decorative shutters with
louvers instead that add a little shade and glamour to your home when they re not protecting you from
a hurricane. Shutters You Have To

The Expansion Of Interest Groups
The emergence of interest groups in the European Union weakened the union s overall power ;
however, many politicians collaborate with them to gain an advantage. It is important to remember
that interest groups are private firms, who can allocate their resources to provide studies for political
actors. Interest groups provide policymaking expertise, and implementation and monitoring capacity,
the potential for a consolidated collective viewpoint, and the potential to enhance legitimacy (Bache,
Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 310). With the acquired data, political actors can push forward stronger
legislations built on concrete data. Interest groups pivotal role in the EU because they can use their
resources to influence decision making in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, interest groups resemble a double edged sword to the EU because although they can
provide resources and information to public institutions, usually the largest groups will have the most
influence. Moreover, the amount of resources available will secure insider status with the policy
makers or remain outside the policy process. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 315). The firms
who control insider status will indirectly possess some control about the policies discussed in the EU.
However, large firms also carry a substantial amount of influence because of their economic power.
For example, politicians will find their hands tied if they decide to rule against one of the largest job
suppliers in a country despite huge strikes against them. As the author states, large firms find it easy to
become privileged interlocutors of the political administrative system, thanks to their economic
importance. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 316). The wealth and resources possessed by large
firms make interest group politics a process where the strongest stay on top and dominate
conversations. Therefore, although in the last decade s interest groups have advocated for positive
social, environmental, and economic changes, their role is contested against business interest. Clearly,
interest groups in the EU is ultimately very circumstantial because they can advocate anything from
same sex marriages to fewer taxes on the rich. The

Nikola Tesla And Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison, developed the world s first practical light bulb in the late 1870s, Edison relied heavily
on tedious experimentation for most of his discoveries, a commitment which some historians attribute
partially to his lack of formal education. Then began building a system for producing and distributing
electricity, so businesses and homes could use his new invention. He opened his first power plant, in
New York City, in 1882. So, developed direct current current that runs continuously in a single
direction, like in a battery or a fuel cell. During the early years of electricity, direct current
(shorthanded as DC) was the standard in the U.S. Mahen Theatre in Brno (in what is now the Czech
Republic), opened in 1882, and was the first public building in the world to use Edison s electric
lamps.
Nikola Tesla, a well educated mathematician from the Austrian Empire (now Croatia), began working
for the Continental Edison Company in France in 1882. There he designed and made improvements to
electrical equipment. He worked for about a year for the French branch of the Edison Electric Light
Co. Tesla, in contrast, was an emotionally driven dreamer with years of engineering training, which
allowed him to work out theories before physically implementing them.
At the beginning of 1884, Tesla moved to the Unites States and began working directly for Thomas
Edison. Though he had hired Tesla, Edison thought the man s ideas were splendid but utterly
impractical . Edison s

The Value Of Societal Order In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Societal order entails an organized structure of rules and practices in a society intended to preserve the
life and safety of its citizens. Individual freedom refers to the ability of an individual to speak or
behave as one pleases within the law without being discriminated or attacked for one s words or
actions. Under most circumstances, these two values of societal order and individual freedom can co
exist hand in hand without difficulty. However, sometimes a dilemma will arise when these two values
come into conflict, and one value must be chosen while the other is sacrificed. We see this pattern
many times over the course of history, even today. More often than not, individual freedom is
sacrificed to maintain societal order. Arthur Miller s The Crucible illustrates this viewpoint by his
example of the Salem witch trials of the late 17th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The witch trials began with the accusation of several girls for practicing witchcraft. During the trial,
they shift the blame of their actions onto witchcraft itself, or the witch archetype, claiming that they
were being controlled against their will. This creates a fear of witches in Salem, inspiring the famed
witch hunt. The sacrifice of the witches occurred to ensure the societal order and the safety of the rest
of the town, even if many who were accused of being witches were actually innocent. Miller argues a
valid point, that when one must choose between societal order and freedom, it is the freedom of some
individuals or groups that will usually be repressed. This conflict and the sacrifice of personal freedom
persists even in the 21st century, as we continue to see similar cases in which groups of people have
their freedom sacrificed for the sake of societal

Nuclear Weapons And Its Effects On The United States
Tensions between Iran and other major world powers, such as the United States, Great Britain, and
France, have been running high ever since the Iranians began investing in nuclear weaponry back in
the 1990 s. The global community has attempted to force Iran to stop its production of such weapons
with economic sanctions. These sanctions have crippled Iran s economy but have not stopped the
manufacturing of nuclear weapons. The nuclear proliferation in Iran is not necessarily a threat to US
society rather it is a threat to an ideal held by the US and other nations. By having nuclear weapons,
Iran has the capability to destroy any nation it chooses. This kind of power paired with the track
record of support for past militant groups, has caused Iran to be an issue. The Iran Nuclear Deal will
help to solve the issue but has a few faults when outlining exactly how this deal will stay in tact for
fifteen years without Iran reneging on its promises.
Nuclear proliferation is a problem that can affect the US indirectly. The US and a few other states, is
known to have nuclear weapons. These states are strong and trusted by most of the global community.
It is not okay for a state like Iran to develop these weapons because they could easily fall into the
wrong hands. The country of Iran is known for supporting terrorist groups in the past and this could
easily become a reality today (Bruno). There is another possibility that Iran could attack Israel with
nuclear force, due to long unrest

pancreas and brain, and resulted in death. Alex decided to give a eulogy at the funeral, in which he

importance of being a man of your word and keeping your promises. Although not everyone can

you have.
Alex said at the conclusion of his speech that everyone is born with the ability to make and keep a
promise. This goes into our yearlong class discussion of Is a leader born or made? Alex, who believes
everyone can make and keep their promises, would believe that leaders are made. Prior to writing his
blog and eventually starting his nonprofit, Alex had no public works experience, public speaking
experience, or leadership experience. As he said, he was just some guy who worked at a software
company making a six figure income with five figure stock options. He did not need the money, and
thought about stopping, as running a nonprofit in addition to working forty hours a week was a big
time commitment and expensive. That was until one day he went into work and saw a letter on his
desk by an unnamed follower of his saying that she appreciated and was inspired by his blog and work
and said that he inspired her to make a promise of her own. For the past few years, she had been
constantly made fun of for her appearance and for being overweight, so she started cutting herself and
was considering suicide.

and Mother Nature. Rivers have been dammed, forests cleared away and mountains levelled in our

This excess of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere is due to the world s growing population burning
more fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas for energy, as well as expanding agriculture and
increasing deforestation.
The Industrial Revolution. Around 200 years ago, the Industrial Revolution ushered in an era in which
humans rely on fossil fuels to run the many machines used in industry and everyday life. The burning
of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution there has
been a steady increase in the production of carbon dioxide, and an increase in global population. Some
of the carbon dioxide is absorbed by trees and plants or dissolved into the oceans; these are known as
carbon sinks. Unfortunately, human activities have been producing carbon dioxide faster than it can be
absorbed naturally, while widespread forest clearance has reduced the carbon sinks.
Scientists have been measuring the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for about 40 years,
over which time the concentration has risen by about 15%. Older records of carbon dioxide, obtained
from air bubbles trapped in Antarctic ice go back 300,000 years. Scientists have found that carbon
dioxide levels now are 32% higher than before the Industrial Revolution, higher than they

Essay On Concentric Zone Theory
Figure 1: Three Generalisations of Urban Structure
2.2.1.1 Concentric Zone Theory
The concentric zone theory is also known as Burgess model and one of the oldest theoretical models
that describe urban social structures. As shown in Figure 2.1, there are six circles in the model; each
circle represents a zone of social groupings and land uses. As the city grows each zone must spread
and move outward, encroaching onto the next one in the process known as invasion and successions
(Park, 1989). The main feature of this model is to show the positive relationship between the central
business district (CBD) and the socio economic status of the households. However, the main aim of
this model was to describe residential structures and to show how they are organised in the city.
Burgess work is much based on Alonso s bid rent function, which is an explanatory model of land use.
As indicated by the concentric model the first accommodation for the migrant are in the central
business district (CBD), where the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He observed that the highest rent areas of a city tend to be located in one or more sectors of the city
and decreasing in all direction away from the central location (Kumar, 1994). The high grade
residential areas occupied the most desirable space and were responsible for the pattern of urban
growth in the city. The other grades of residential areas were aligned around the high grade areas, with
the lowest grade areas occupying the least desirable land. Hoyt explained that due to the dynamics of
the property market, the obsolete (old) houses vacated by the higher income groups to occupy high
grade areas were transferred to the middle income groups. Vacancies thus created were occupied by
lower income groups. A filter down process was observed when new housing unit was added to the

Socrates Flaws
Socrates, in a simple but bold statement, proclaims wisdom as being the cardinal virtue. He believed
that if one does not examine oneself, their life has no true meaning. Socrates defended the idea and
virtue of self examination, for he believed it is through change and growth that people attain self
betterment. Not only this, but this method of critical reflection also realigns values with what is
actually important in life, such as wisdom and spirituality. Socrates believed that examination and
scrutiny of one s beliefs were necessary in order to improve oneself. Without review, people would
never be able to see their faults. Socrates lists this reason in Apology as why he cross examines
people: For I do nothing but go about persuading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A person with unexamined values generally holds the insignificant to be what is important and what is
truly significant to be inconsequential. In the Apology, Socrates addresses the men of Athens on this
subject: Are you not ashamed of heaping up the greatest amount of money and honour and reputation,
and caring so little about wisdom and truth and the greatest improvement of the soul (Plato)? Through
this statement, Socrates argument perfectly encapsulates the state that an unexamined society exists in
one that values greatness over goodness. Though over two thousand years have passed since Socrates
stated this before the Athenian court, it remains an accurate portrait of society; the majority of people
amass material things, strive to become famous, and seemingly work only to gain wealth, all while
hardly caring about knowledge, morals, or personal integrity. These skewing of values are the result of
an unexamined life. People who never inspect what they hold valuable are swept up into society s race
to riches and fame, instead of focusing on enriching themselves and others with wisdom and truth.
People often ruin their lives as well as others in pursuit of their vices. Socrates knew that by
examining oneself and what values are genuinely important, one not only safeguards himself against
such downfalls, but they can also be led to the most valuable things of

Ganglion Cyst Research Paper
A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous, fluid filled lump that occurs near joints or tendons. The ganglion
cyst grows out of a joint or the lining of a tendon. It most often develops in the hand or wrist but can
also develop in the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, or foot. The round or oval ganglion can be pea
sized or larger than a grape. Increased activity may enlarge the size of the cyst because more fluid
starts to build up. CAUSES It is not known what causes a ganglion cyst to grow. However, it may be
related to: Inflammation or irritation around the joint. An injury. Repetitive movements or overuse.
Arthritis. RISK FACTORS Risk factors include: Being a woman. Being between the ages of 20 50.

there is a lot of speculation that he could be involved. He was working in the area where her killing

Essay About Rock
Our rock, Inez proclaimed. What I imagine you two probably didn t think at all about was... what was
truly going to happen to our rock when we fired the magnetron. When the magnetron sent its
microwaves into the rock, they actually went through it, hitting the iron plates on the other side, and
were then reflected back our way where the Geiger Counter took a series of measurements of them.
Those measurements were then analyzed by my program and then given to us. Inez hit another
command on his keyboard bringing up a new screen. Before all three of them now appeared what
seemed like endless rows and columns of ones and zeroes, each row in groups of eight numbers. What

agreed reluctantly. Hey, man, do you want to see something else that s really cool? asked Inez hoping

this experiment was anything like the first one I did yesterday, then we should have one more result.
What is it? asked Cassidy, Inez s revelation having also recaptured her attention. Well, this is kind of
freaky if it happened, so be forewarned, Inez avowed. Come on, tell us, Cassidy pleaded. Okay,
Phillip, my man, why don t you go pick up your rock? said Inez with a gesturing head nod. Okay,
Phillip said assenting to the request somewhat tentative as he looked over at Inez then glancing at
Cassidy. Summing up the courage, he then complied, making his way over to where the rock still sat
atop Inez s computer desk. Slowly, he reached out a timid hand, cautious to touch the stone. Then,
making contact, he ever so lightly glazed over it with his index finger searching for anything unusual,

Descriptive Essay-I Wear Syrup
I wear makeup. This is the first thought which occurs to me as I hasten down the stairs, gasping,
heading straight towards my room. It is when I slam my bedroom door shut, lock it, place a chair
against the it, and turn the doorknob countless times to make sure it is secure, when I can finally
breathe a sigh of relief and sit on the edge of my bed. I wear makeup, but I don t wear mascara,
eyeliner, lip gloss, or blush. I wear makeup, and it doesn t go on my face. I wear makeup on my mind
I conceal my imperfections and insecurities. I conceal everything. I fight for breath and lean my head
backwards. A lump starts to form at the back of my throat, and I can feel my eyes finally starting to
water. It s too late. Nothing can stop me from crying now. I let the hot, heavy tears fall from my eye,
scrunch my body up into a tiny ball on the edge of my bed, and I weep. My head pounds on and on, to
the point where my ears start buzzing, but I don t care. I don t care, and I don t want to care. I just

and I don t have time to open it. I have no choice but to stay in this room; I am trapped. The pounding

quote links into this assignment as it shows how important the first couple of years in a child s life can
affect them the throughout their life. It shows how important it is to have the pioneers input into the
practice and teaching of children as its important they have the best start in life to help them develop.
In this assignment I am going to compare previous and current pioneers that have and are influencing
the current principles of early year s pedagogy. For example how they are influencing the four
principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This assignment will get me to look at
different views that theorist have to education and how they can be used in current practice. It will

and the exotic names of the places in Africa, he declares, I didn t want my name against such beautiful

Samuel Beckett s Molloy is divided into two parts. The first part begins with the narrator, Molloy, who
is being driven to write for an unknown reason and by an unknown person. At the end of the first
paragraph, Molloy says: Here is my beginning (Beckett 8). Molloy s account of what happens isn t
organized as a narrative; in a way; Molloy is Beckett s portrait of what would happen if someone who
didn t tell stories was compelled to tell one. He begins not even with the pseudo quest of going to see
his mother but with some observations of two people, A and C. From there, he tells of the pleasures of

The Value Of Art And Art
The ownership of art in 2017 is typically brought up in discussions regarding works of art with seven
to eight digit price tags, owned by individuals with a net worth that can be described using nine to ten
digits. However, popular opinion would probably agree that the person who has the single greatest
appreciation for art is the art historian. Popular opinion would also be quick to agree that the art
historian does not value a work of art in accordance with the market s appraisal of a given piece. The
art historian s origin is grounded in academia rather than profit margins or financial ownership.
The art historian s obligation lays in their responsibility to spread the wealth of knowledge associated
with the history of art while also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if art historians were to take a passive stance to art that is at risk of being destroyed because
it is located in an area of geopolitical unrest, then they risk losing the very subjects that legitimizes
their occupational responsibilities. For example, we have seen that works located in the turbulent
sectors of the Middle East have been wiped out on massive scales. André Emrich highlighted the
greatest contemporary tragedy regarding the aforementioned statement in his essay, Improving the
Odds: Preservation through Distribution:
The worst act of barbarity to inaugurate the new millennium was the horrifying destruction in 2001 by
the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan of the giant statues of Buddha at Bamiyan, and the smashing
of every piece of figurative art that could be found in the National Museum. The unprecedented,
deliberate destruction has left nothing but photographs of the art of entire cultural epochs. (source)
Perhaps obvious, but the necessary ethical response to tragedies such as this is to ensure the best
possible chance for the collective preservation of art. Art historians have no obligatory association
with a specific nation or institution, their obligation is to maintain and develop the narrative of art.
This cannot be done if the art they would like to examine evaporates from history due to rogue
extremist human action. Typically, disputes over repatriation are reserved to those who represent the
respective nations

Should College Be Free
Today in America, college tuition is more expensive compared to what it was in the 80s and 90s. More
people rely on welfare and are living in poverty; they cannot afford college for their children. The first
two years of college should be provided free for everyone in America because there is a possibility
that some of the world s brightest minds could not afford the outlandish prices of college. Some
people do not believe this way because their taxes will go up and they think they should not have to
pay for someone else s child. These people have some good points as taxes will go up, but ultimately
they will be helping better the community by getting more educated people out into the world. The

people are not great test takers and cannot do well in the school environment but still want to be

I Really Enjoyed Holly Weeks Piece On Stressful Conversations
Intro
I really enjoyed Holly Weeks piece on stressful conversations. It aligns well with my own experience.
Her keen insight has been shared through exploration of three scenarios where the stress gets high
very easily. In each of these three examples the author lets the people in the conversation fail, this is a
thought provoking technique that stimulates introspection. Holly is counting on the reader to
remembers similar experiences that they may have gone through. The author is also provoking us to
examine the large role our subconscious has in our actions when confronted with stressful
conversations. The author provides help in solving these quarrelsome situations by describing the
processes necessary for us to improve the stress of conversation unilaterally.
Know Thyself
Know yourself, this is a common theme in many articles on communication and it is a central point in
this piece. Much of how emotions work into communication is unconscious, they seem to evolve
without our own control. Just as we felt for the characters in the examples the author provided, in
retrospect we can see our own missteps and may wish we could have handled it differently. Holly
Weeks wants us to take a step back and observe that given one type of emotional situation we
probably make the same type of mistakes every time. The author has a good word for it, tactics,
though unlike the tactics deployed consciously when running a war or wining a race, these tactics are
ones the subconscious uses to

The Army and the Air Force Essay
The Army and the Air Force have many similarities and differences, some of the similarities are the
troop s dedication, diversity, and patriotism, and some of the differences are the way each branch
trains, their respective customs, and quality life.
As a Soldier in the Army, with many friends in the Air Force, it is easy for me to see the many
similarities and differences between the two military branches. Both the Army and Air Force have
troops who are dedicated to both the work they do for the military, as well as the military branch they
serve. Army and Air Force personnel must wake up early every weekday, to include weekends at

Soldier s go to training sites frequently and stay for weeks at a time to train with scenarios comparable
to missions the military has seen in previous battles, or believe may happen in future battles fought.
When the Army trains with the aforementioned scenarios, soldiers must carry their assigned weapons,

required to fire their assigned weapon in order to train with, and become comfortable with those

Solar Panels, Hydropower, And Wind Turbines
DISCUSSION
How Biomass Works
Solar panels, hydropower, and wind turbines are all well known renewable resources. However, one of
the most prevalent sources for energy is often overlooked. Biomass is a renewable and sustainable
energy resource that uses organic materials to generate electricity. ( Biomass Power Association. )
Biomass energy is made from any form of previously living material. This includes any animal
material or product, all vegetation, and even human waste. Scrap lumber, forest debris, crops, manure,
and even industrial wastes can all be utilized and turned into renewable energy through biomass. Often
leftover materials from factories such as paper mills are used to help sustain the renewable resource.
However, this process tends to be inefficient and unreliable (Mary, Booth), so frequently biomass
energy is instead produced by cutting down forests or converting crops such as sugar or corn into
combustible fuels. Biomass is considered a renewable resource because organic material and waste
will always exist. Whether this is through forests, crops, or animals, as long as humans inhabit the
earth there will be waste to utilize. [figure 2]
Although biomass is sometimes considered inefficient in comparison to other fuels, biomass fuels
have two strengths when compared to widely used fossil fuels. The first reason is the time difference
there is between fossil fuels and biomass. One example would be coal. In nature coal requires close to
400 million

The Implications Of Monetizing Children
Implications of Monetizing Children
Introduction
Children are fond of playing games on their mobile devices and will go to great lengths to ensure that
they remain entertained. These games are readily available on the Internet, and most children have
found convenience in purchasing or subscribing especially through in app purchasing. While a
majority of adult games require a one time subscription or purchase, children games have been
monetized and most children remain hooked to the games they play, which ends up costing more. On a
number of occasions, children have found themselves in trouble with their parents because of use of
their credit cards to purchase games on the Internet. Additionally, the incorporation of in games ads
poses another challenge because young kids are becoming more exposed to gaming content and are
lured into purchasing games or subscribing through the available options. This paper takes a look at
the ethical issues surrounding monetizing of children as well as highlights some of the psychological
issues related to kids games.
Ethical and psychological issues in monetizing children In the recent years after the advancement of
Internet gaming a widespread use of mobile devices such as the Smartphone and tablets, more

The Themes Of African American Literature
Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across many different
forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are
used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their
experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations,
both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson, and African
American artist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting Prayer in the
Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American literature that broadens
the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality.
In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three
elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting that
one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of
color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson).
Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying. These elongated
forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The
tone of Prayer in the Field created by the colors is what gives these kneeling figures meaning. The

Wildwood Lake Canoe Company Casse Study Essay
Wildwood Lake Canoe Company
In January 2010, Allan Monroe was preparing for the April opening of the Wildwood Lake Canoe
Company (WLC), a canoe manufacturing shop in St. Mary s, Ontario. Monroe planned to build 30
canoes per year and he wondered what strategy and tactics would maximize his profits.
The initiative for WLC evolved from Monroe s canoeing and woodworking hobbies. Monroe had
canoed recreationally for more than 20 years and had built three canoes, which he sold after using
them each for a season. Last spring, when Monroe decided to purchase a canoe for the first time, he

Monroe planned to produce 30 canoes in the first year and average one canoe every ten days, which
would leave 65 days to buffer any unforeseen production delays[1]. Monroe would have to work
seven days a week to maintain the production pace; however, he felt that he could handle a seven day
schedule for two to three years. Although the first canoes were scheduled to take almost 12 days to
build, manufacturing time would gradually decrease. Monroe knew that he would have to invest in
some equipment which would include an estimated $5,530 for power equipment and accessories; hand
tools at $835; cutters, blades and bits at $800; benches, stands and cabinets for $1,600; forms and jigs
for $160; and office equipment for $3,055. Monroe projected that variable costs would total $1,161
per canoe[2] and annual operating expenses would total $8,644[3].
The market for canoes followed the business cycle. In recessions, canoe sales suffered as many
prospective customers stopped recreational spending. Sales of premium priced canoes were especially
vulnerable. The statistics showed that many companies were unable to survive the recent recession
that began in 2008; however, industry sales had been strong and improving over the past year or so.
Monroe was optimistic that growth would continue in the immediate future.
Promotion would consist of a website, advertisements in canoeing magazines and

company s future profits. Thus, share price increases from 0.17 to 24.22 times as more shareholders
invested in it but in 2014 2013, it decreases to 18.56 as the shareholders are making a loss in the NAV
ratio, thus pulling out their investment.
NAV Ratio (Net Asset Value Per Share)
2012: 0.38
2013: 0.70
2014: 0.90
The NAV ratio is drastically decreasing over the years, showing that the company is slowly becoming
more undervalued in 2013 to 2014. This shows that the shareholders are not earning their investment.
CONCLUSION
Due to Far East Orchid s declining profitability, the company turns to increasing its gearing ratio to
fund its financial and operational needs. This excessive increase in current assets results in the
company being too liquid, and its extreme increase of selling inventory caused its quick ratio to drop
below the recommended level. The inconsistent inventory turnover shows inefficiency in managing
their assets. And finally, this causes the company to be undervalued.
As seen from the above ratios, our recommendation would be not to invest in this company, as it is not
only making a loss of profits, but also going into debt to solve its low profit

Love At First Sight In Nobel By Mabel Sparknotes
Love at first sight is when two people meet eye to eye and instantly connect amongst each other. In the
beginning of the narrative Mabel s brothers are aggressively mean to her, questioning her every move
towards her next plans after the selling of their house. With every question, a cold answer would
follow. It was clear that Mabel was misunderstood from her relatives and now more than ever she felt
alone. The doctor was unaware of Mabel s existence until their first encounter in her diner kitchen.
Author Lawrence s way of writing helped readers use their context clues to symbolize their eye
contact was meaningful. Unlike most greetings, theirs were long regardless of the people that were in
the room. Which in most cases means so much more. Given this was the first encounter of the two
characters, I would assume something very magical would occur later on in the story because of their
strong first interaction. As previously stated, Mabel s parents are no longer alive. As the story
progresses Mabel decided to visit her mother s grave. Coincidently, her mother s grave is next to the
doctor s office building. The doctor finds his way to his window where another strong eye ... Show

Mabel s attitude towards life is not positively increasing regardless of the doctor s presence. She has
not felt a sense of self worth since her parents death and I believe that she needed a clearer connection
with the doctor to finally regain what she was missing. After visiting her mother s grave, Mabel
decides to walk to the the park s lake. Knowing that the doctor is casually following she decides to
enter the lake and purposely not swim. The doctor quickly races to the pond and without a hesitation
quickly jumps in to save her. It came to a surprise when she later found out that he did not know how
to swim and still chose to enter knowing that his life too was in danger. His actions further prove my

Women s Rights During The 1848 Seneca Falls Declaration...
The women of America have struggled to gain the same equality as men. The 1848 Seneca Falls
Declaration and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire were two documents showing the mistreatment
and the unfairness of women in the work place and America as a whole. Some people did not believe
women had the same rights as men, but women thought otherwise and wanted their voice heard. The
aspects of equality in the American Dream were unavailable to women because women were not given
the same rights as men. Similar to the Declaration of Independence which showed the unfair laws
Britain placed upon the colonies, the Seneca Falls Declaration explained the rights not given to
women by men. One of the grievances in the Seneca Falls Declaration stated, He has never permitted
her to exercise her inalienable right to the elective franchise. He has compelled her to submit to laws,
in the formation of which she had no voice (Stanton, Anthony 57). In other words, women had to obey
the laws just like men did, but women did not have the right to vote. Women had no voice in which
laws were passed but they understood that by being citizens of America they should have a say in the
government. The Seneca Falls Declaration clearly stated, Having deprived her of this first right of a
citizen, the elective franchise, there by leaving her without representation in the halls of legislation, he
has oppressed her on all sides (57). Women saw the inequality being given to them and they wrote the

Food Security Is The Deadliest Category Of Malnutrition
Food Security Food security is defined as having access to sufficient amounts and safe food at all
times, in order to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Food security is often times looked upon as
just the availability of food, but safety and hygiene of food and food products gets overlooked. For
example, many developing countries don t have the specific education needed to know that certain
chemicals, such as pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, should only be applied during certain
growth stages of crops. This causes the consumption of these crops to be very harmful to individuals.
Food insecurities are causing many problems, leading to malnourishment, famines, and death in
developing countries. Many countries within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another major task they need to incorporate into their government would be implementing
agricultural and food policies that will be effective and help the economy. Although, this may be hard
to accomplish due to the violence and corrupt government in Nigeria. Justice could be the ethical
argument behind this, because many people are suffering from unfairness from the jihadists. They are
stealing people s possessions, food, and animals that they live off from. They are unable to make any
money from the crops that they had grown, animals they raised, and are going hungry from this,
causing food insecurities and malnutrition throughout the country. Nigeria in not the only country in
Africa facing these problematic situations. Al Hudayah in Yemen is also suffering from war and
government conflicts. The Saudi jets have been attacking and bombing villages throughout Yemen.
This has caused a sudden decrease in many people s income, which is making it hard for individuals to
buy food for themselves and their families. Again, this hunger crisis with severe acute malnutrition
could lead to famine very shortly if no steps are taken to overcome the problem. The ethical argument
behind the situation that Yemen is currently facing could also be justice or rights. This is because it is
unfair for a country to be suffering due to conflict or war. A majority of the individuals being bombed
or killed from the war are innocent people that are just trying to

Norton Company Inc., 1985 Miron Dolot s book, EXECUTION BY HUNGER, is a detailed account as seen through the eyes of a true survivor during the reign of Stalin and the Soviet Union between 1929 1933. In his accounts, he portrays atrocities against human civilization while documenting his real life experiences and those of his fellow Ukrainian village farmers. He portrays them as victims of their own time period. Victims of a new wave of political beliefs, namely collectivization were enforced by Stalin and his followers in the name of Communism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The collectivization began with the infiltration of about ten men per village from the communist party and the soviet government known as Twenty Five Thousanders. They were an elite group with unlimited power and weapons. They gradually arrested dignitaries and influential villagers such as Priest Bondar. The villages were becoming defenseless and had no leaders to look up to. Propagandists took over homes and left families with nothing but the clothes they had on. This was the pattern throughout the entire region in all of the villages. It set neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother all in the name of survival. Once someone you knew joined the collective farm, he was no longer your friend. The infiltration expanded into the exploitation of the farmers. They were held captives of their own free will on their own lands. Overwhelmed by the Party, resistance was fruitless since they were persuaded by sleep deprivation, humiliation, and degradation. The people became broken spirits in appearance. It was a silent war between the communists and the collective farmers. Dolot exhibits a hidden pride in the farmers by writing of their subtle resistances, sabotages, and stubborn survival. They may have been beaten but they really were not broken. Some lived on. • 5. Processing and Manufacturing of Cheese Cheese has been used for centuries in an effort to preserve the nutrition available in milk. Today, more than fourteen hundred types of cheese exist, each with a distinct taste. (Thompson, 2007)The manufacturing of cheese is through several processes that are, pasteurization, adding additives, milk ripening and coagulation, curd treatment and finally cheese ripening. (Goff, 1995) PH monitoring, along with the casein to moisture ratio, is the most important step that determines cheese texture. Certain cheese varieties, such as Swiss, Gouda and Cheshire cheese exhibit a narrower range of pH as compared to Cheddar cheese. Starter cultures are used to achieve the desired pH needed for fermentation. In order to reach the optimum pH, the temperature, content of lactose and the products produced during fermentation are closely monitored. This stage of the cheese making process is called ripening. (Ardo Waagner, 2011). The minimum pH used for the production of different types of cheese is given in the graph below. (Ardo Waagner, 2011) Camembert, Feta and Danablu are low pH cheese varities, where as, Cheddar cheese utilizes a medium minimum pH. High pH cheese varieties include Mozzarella, Tilsiter, Havarti, Gouda, Danbo and the Emmental groups. • 6. Branched Chain Amino Acid As A Supplement For Long... Branched Chain Amino Acid as a Supplement for Long Duration Exercise Introduction Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) are composed of three essential amino acids including leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They are unique in that they are predominantly metabolized outside of the liver in the skeletal muscle. BCAAs make up 35 40% of the amino acid pool in the body and exist in high concentrations in skeletal muscle tissue (Shimomura et al, 2006). While the supplemental dosage is dependent upon on the type of exercise,, body composition, and dietary intake, a standard dosage of the combination of BCAAs is 20g, of leucine, isoleucine, and valine. Other ratio combinations are available as well as individual supplement products of leucine and isoleucine. BCAA supplementation is often taken before, during, and after exercise. It has been observed that BCAAs potentiate the effects of exercise by their anabolic processes on protein metabolism by increasing the rate of muscle protein synthesis and decreasing the rate of muscle protein breakdown (Karlsson et al., 2004). Moreover, it has been theorized that BCAAs may improve performance, reduce muscle fatigue, and feelings of muscle soreness. Review of Literature Various studies have demonstrated that BCAAs promote activation of protein synthesis, reduced muscle degradation, and reduce perceived feelings of muscle fatigue. Cooperative Learning Reflection Following our presentation of why cooperative learning benefits students in mathematics, we hoped the class would be able to distinguish the differences between direct learning environments from cooperative learning. Additionally, we hoped the class would understand how all students become active participants in their learning through cooperative learning and receive higher academic success. Lastly, it was a goal of ours that the class recognized the acquired skills students gain from cooperative learning and why it should be incorporated in their future classroom. Overall our mini lesson went smooth, but we for sure had a few bumps throughout the presentation. We successfully presented the benefits of cooperative learning and how achievement scores are higher in mathematics when this approach is taken. However, we struggled with application to the real world and how we as future educators should implement cooperative learning into our classrooms. Content wise our group did a strong job focusing on distinguishing the differences in two different classroom approaches, such as direct learning versus cooperative learning. Through multiple research studies we were able to express to the class the benefits students receive when actively engaged in a cooperative learning environment. We used the textbook definition for cooperative learning and an in class presentation to define direct learning, which helped assist the class in understanding the differences, especially because ... What is the person ahead trying to communicate? That is an example of how a horse would feel when led by a human who looks back at him. Remember, horses rely on good leadership for survival. So, with the human constantly looking back, it tells the horse that the person is not safe to follow. The human is not a leader. Leadership is guiding another with confidence. Clear communication achieves harmony with the horse through body language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humans typically think of horses as just animals. Firstly, horses are intelligent creatures with different personalities, abilities, and sensitivities. Humans should realize that each horse has a different need and that each training requirement is different. In the second place, people often comment that their horses are too senseless to need a choice. A while back, I read a story about a mare who was dying from fighting an illness and exhaustion. Before she died, she walked for days across exposed moors leading her foal to the safety of a farm where she died less than twenty four hours later. She died after knowing her foal was safe. Does that sound like a senseless horse? A horse with that much intelligence, to have no choice during training? It is inconceivable. Horses are not incapable of understanding communication; it is up to the human not to send out mixed signals. In the third place, when the human sends the horse away during equine training, the person is giving the horse a choice. Either the horse will stay away or come back to safety. When the person gives the horse a choice, the horse is very willing to work. Another example is when a horse is standing next to the human, and the horse starts to bump the person with his head; signs of trying to dominate the human, the person will move the horse away. The first inclination of the animal is to come back where the person is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell s conditions, which were obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate Newton s law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge, energy, control, as well as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the electrical in electrical designing and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his famous equations, the doors opened up for significant research into the application of electromagnetic waves in every day life (Becker Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell s theory was that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even though it was assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The requirements can be in the form of administrative requirements of the national offices of contracting parties by establishing standards for registration, changes after registration and the renewal of trademarks, in an attempt to simplify and harmonize procedures. One of the earliest legislative in EU is The First Council Directive 89/104/EEC (hereinafter Harmonisation Directive). The main objective if this legislation was to minimise the differences between the national trade mark systems. These differences present barriers to trade and affect free movement of goods and services, thereby hindering the development of a single market. The Harmonisation Directive does not disturb the policies on procedure and is restricted to guidelines on substance. The Expansion Of Interest Groups The emergence of interest groups in the European Union weakened the union s overall power ; however, many politicians collaborate with them to gain an advantage. It is important to remember that interest groups are private firms, who can allocate their resources to provide studies for political actors. Interest groups provide policymaking expertise, and implementation and monitoring capacity, the potential for a consolidated collective viewpoint, and the potential to enhance legitimacy (Bache, Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 310). Consequently, interest groups resemble a double edged sword to the EU because although they can provide resources and information to public institutions, usually the largest groups will have the most influence. Moreover, the amount of resources available will secure insider status with the policy makers or remain outside the policy process. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 315). The firms who control insider status will indirectly possess some control about the policies discussed in the EU. However, large firms also carry a substantial amount of influence because of their economic power. For example, politicians will find their hands tied if they decide to rule against one of the largest job suppliers in a country despite huge strikes against them. As the author states, large firms find it easy to become privileged interlocutors of the political administrative system, thanks to their economic importance. (Bache ,Bulmer, George, Parker 2014, 316). The wealth and resources possessed by large firms make interest group politics a process where the strongest stay on top and dominate conversations. Therefore, although in the last decade s interest groups have advocated for positive social, environmental, and economic changes, their role is contested against business interest. Clearly, interest groups in the EU is ultimately very circumstantial because they can advocate anything from same sex marriages to fewer taxes on the rich. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then began building a system for producing and distributing electricity, so businesses and homes could use his new invention. He opened his first power plant, in New York City, in 1882. So, developed direct current current that runs continuously in a single direction, like in a battery or a fuel cell. During the early years of electricity, direct current (shorthanded as DC) was the standard in the U.S. Mahen Theatre in Brno (in what is now the Czech Republic), opened in 1882, and was the first public building in the world to use Edison s electric lamps. Nikola Tesla, a well educated mathematician from the Austrian Empire (now Croatia), began working for the Continental Edison Company in France in 1882. There he designed and made improvements to electrical equipment. He worked for about a year for the French branch of the Edison Electric Light Co. Tesla, in contrast, was an emotionally driven dreamer with years of engineering training, which allowed him to work out theories before physically implementing them. • 14. The Value Of Societal Order In The Crucible By Arthur Miller Societal order entails an organized structure of rules and practices in a society intended to preserve the life and safety of its citizens. Individual freedom refers to the ability of an individual to speak or behave as one pleases within the law without being discriminated or attacked for one s words or actions. Under most circumstances, these two values of societal order and individual freedom can co exist hand in hand without difficulty. However, sometimes a dilemma will arise when these two values come into conflict, and one value must be chosen while the other is sacrificed. We see this pattern many times over the course of history, even today. More often than not, individual freedom is sacrificed to maintain societal order. Arthur Miller s The Crucible illustrates this viewpoint by his example of the Salem witch trials of the late 17th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The witch trials began with the accusation of several girls for practicing witchcraft. During the trial, they shift the blame of their actions onto witchcraft itself, or the witch archetype, claiming that they were being controlled against their will. The sacrifice of the witches occurred to ensure the societal order and the safety of the rest of the town, even if many who were accused of being witches were actually innocent. Miller argues a valid point, that when one must choose between societal order and freedom, it is the freedom of some individuals or groups that will usually be repressed. This conflict and the sacrifice of personal freedom persists even in the 21st century, as we continue to see similar cases in which groups of people have their freedom sacrificed for the sake of societal ... Nuclear Weapons And Its Effects On The United States Tensions between Iran and other major world powers, such as the United States, Great Britain, and France, have been running high ever since the Iranians began investing in nuclear weaponry back in the 1990 s. The global community has attempted to force Iran to stop its production of such weapons with economic sanctions. These sanctions have crippled Iran s economy but have not stopped the manufacturing of nuclear weapons. The nuclear proliferation in Iran is not necessarily a threat to US society rather it is a threat to an ideal held by the US and other nations. By having nuclear weapons, Iran has the capability to destroy any nation it chooses. This kind of power paired with the track record of support for past militant groups, has caused Iran to be an issue. The Iran Nuclear Deal will help to solve the issue but has a few faults when outlining exactly how this deal will stay in tact for fifteen years without Iran reneging on its promises. Nuclear proliferation is a problem that can affect the US indirectly. The US and a few other states, is known to have nuclear weapons. These states are strong and trusted by most of the global community. It is not okay for a state like Iran to develop these weapons because they could easily fall into the wrong hands. The burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution there has been a steady increase in the production of carbon dioxide, and an increase in global population. Some of the carbon dioxide is absorbed by trees and plants or dissolved into the oceans; these are known as carbon sinks. Essay On Concentric Zone Theory Figure 1: Three Generalisations of Urban Structure 2.2.1.1 Concentric Zone Theory The concentric zone theory is also known as Burgess model and one of the oldest theoretical models that describe urban social structures. As shown in Figure 2.1, there are six circles in the model; each circle represents a zone of social groupings and land uses. As the city grows each zone must spread and move outward, encroaching onto the next one in the process known as invasion and successions (Park, 1989). The main feature of this model is to show the positive relationship between the central business district (CBD) and the socio economic status of the households. However, the main aim of this model was to describe residential structures and to show how they are organised in the city. The other grades of residential areas were aligned around the high grade areas, with the lowest grade areas occupying the least desirable land. Hoyt explained that due to the dynamics of the property market, the obsolete (old) houses vacated by the higher income groups to occupy high grade areas were transferred to the middle income groups. Socrates defended the idea and virtue of self examination, for he believed it is through change and growth that people attain self betterment. Not only this, but this method of critical reflection also realigns values with what is actually important in life, such as wisdom and spirituality. In the Apology, Socrates addresses the men of Athens on this subject: Are you not ashamed of heaping up the greatest amount of money and honour and reputation, and caring so little about wisdom and truth and the greatest improvement of the soul (Plato)? Through this statement, Socrates argument perfectly encapsulates the state that an unexamined society exists in one that values greatness over goodness. Though over two thousand years have passed since Socrates stated this before the Athenian court, it remains an accurate portrait of society; the majority of people amass material things, strive to become famous, and seemingly work only to gain wealth, all while hardly caring about knowledge, morals, or personal integrity. These skewing of values are the result of an unexamined life. People who never inspect what they hold valuable are swept up into society s race to riches and fame, instead of focusing on enriching themselves and others with wisdom and truth. When admiring the scene of the desert and the exotic names of the places in Africa, he declares, I didn t want my name against such beautiful names. Erase my family name! Erase nations. I was taught such things by the desert (139). His hunger for the erasure of name which reflect the hate of ownership of the desert is the rejection of homogeneity. The Value Of Art And Art The ownership of art in 2017 is typically brought up in discussions regarding works of art with seven to eight digit price tags, owned by individuals with a net worth that can be described using nine to ten digits. However, popular opinion would probably agree that the person who has the single greatest appreciation for art is the art historian. Popular opinion would also be quick to agree that the art historian does not value a work of art in accordance with the market s appraisal of a given piece. André Emrich highlighted the greatest contemporary tragedy regarding the aforementioned statement in his essay, Improving the Odds: Preservation through Distribution: The worst act of barbarity to inaugurate the new millennium was the horrifying destruction in 2001 by the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan of the giant statues of Buddha at Bamiyan, and the smashing of every piece of figurative art that could be found in the National Museum. The unprecedented, deliberate destruction has left nothing but photographs of the art of entire cultural epochs. More people rely on welfare and are living in poverty; they cannot afford college for their children. The first two years of college should be provided free for everyone in America because there is a possibility that some of the world s brightest minds could not afford the outlandish prices of college. Her keen insight has been shared through exploration of three scenarios where the stress gets high very easily. In each of these three examples the author lets the people in the conversation fail, this is a thought provoking technique that stimulates introspection. Holly is counting on the reader to remembers similar experiences that they may have gone through. The author is also provoking us to examine the large role our subconscious has in our actions when confronted with stressful conversations. The author provides help in solving these quarrelsome situations by describing the processes necessary for us to improve the stress of conversation unilaterally. Know Thyself Know yourself, this is a common theme in many articles on communication and it is a central point in this piece. Much of how emotions work into communication is unconscious, they seem to evolve without our own control. Just as we felt for the characters in the examples the author provided, in retrospect we can see our own missteps and may wish we could have handled it differently. Holly Weeks wants us to take a step back and observe that given one type of emotional situation we probably make the same type of mistakes every time. • 37. Solar Panels, Hydropower, And Wind Turbines DISCUSSION How Biomass Works Solar panels, hydropower, and wind turbines are all well known renewable resources. However, one of the most prevalent sources for energy is often overlooked. Biomass is a renewable and sustainable energy resource that uses organic materials to generate electricity. ( Biomass Power Association. ) Biomass energy is made from any form of previously living material. This includes any animal material or product, all vegetation, and even human waste. Scrap lumber, forest debris, crops, manure, and even industrial wastes can all be utilized and turned into renewable energy through biomass. Often leftover materials from factories such as paper mills are used to help sustain the renewable resource. However, this process tends to be inefficient and unreliable (Mary, Booth), so frequently biomass energy is instead produced by cutting down forests or converting crops such as sugar or corn into combustible fuels. Biomass is considered a renewable resource because organic material and waste will always exist. Whether this is through forests, crops, or animals, as long as humans inhabit the earth there will be waste to utilize. [figure 2] Although biomass is sometimes considered inefficient in comparison to other fuels, biomass fuels have two strengths when compared to widely used fossil fuels. The first reason is the time difference there is between fossil fuels and biomass. One example would be coal. In nature coal requires close to 400 million ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Themes Of African American Literature Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across many different forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations, both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson, and African American artist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting Prayer in the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality. In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson). Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying. These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The tone of Prayer in the Field created by the colors is what gives these kneeling figures meaning. The warm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the first canoes were scheduled to take almost 12 days to build, manufacturing time would gradually decrease. Monroe knew that he would have to invest in some equipment which would include an estimated $5,530 for power equipment and accessories; hand tools at $835; cutters, blades and bits at $800; benches, stands and cabinets for $1,600; forms and jigs for $160; and office equipment for $3,055. Monroe projected that variable costs would total $1,161 per canoe[2] and annual operating expenses would total $8,644[3]. The market for canoes followed the business cycle. In recessions, canoe sales suffered as many prospective customers stopped recreational spending. Sales of premium priced canoes were especially vulnerable. The statistics showed that many companies were unable to survive the recent recession that began in 2008; however, industry sales had been strong and improving over the past year or so. The 1848 Seneca Falls Declaration and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire were two documents showing the mistreatment and the unfairness of women in the work place and America as a whole. Some people did not believe women had the same rights as men, but women thought otherwise and wanted their voice heard. The aspects of equality in the American Dream were unavailable to women because women were not given the same rights as men. Similar to the Declaration of Independence which showed the unfair laws Britain placed upon the colonies, the Seneca Falls Declaration explained the rights not given to women by men. One of the grievances in the Seneca Falls Declaration stated, He has never permitted her to exercise her inalienable right to the elective franchise. He has compelled her to submit to laws, in the formation of which she had no voice (Stanton, Anthony 57). In other words, women had to obey the laws just like men did, but women did not have the right to vote.
