What Do John Maynard Keynes, Richard Norgaard, And Fred...
What do John Maynard Keynes, Richard Norgaard, and Fred Block and Margaret Somers have in
common? They all challenge widely accepted economic thinking and support thoughtful, progressive
government action in the midst of social crises. In the 1930s, Keynes debunks a rationale for a laissez
faire system that was perpetuating large scale human suffering and made a strong recommendation for
government intervention. Norgaard then broadens Keynes s critique of assumptions underlying free
market ideology to include all widely unquestioned and accepted economic beliefs which he terms
economism and urges a transformation of this belief system toward discursive democracy to enable
effective environmental regulation and economic redistribution (lecture). Adopting Keynes s focus on
empirics while using a similar explanation as Norgaard, Block and Somers criticize a study of late
eighteenth century British poor laws that is commonly used to oppose welfare policy while explaining
that its widespread, unquestioning citation in academia and policy analysis points to the pervasiveness
of conservative assumptions about the poor and what is natural. Altogether, these authors urge us to
reconsider dominant economic stories that lack a circumspect, factual basis as we consider various
social, environmental, and economic policy alternatives.
John Maynard Keynes is the first economic maverick here who calls attention to the flaws in common
economic assumptions while also expanding the

Haircut Saga Case Study
Delving into the Trinity Grammar haircut saga, during the crisis phase, there are several concerns
which enraged the stakeholders, namely the School Council s decision to sack Brown, its passive
attitude, and empty promises. While the trigger event was unstable, the suddenness and negativity
impacted attribution. Using the three attribution dimension, the Trinity Grammar haircut saga dons a
high personal control, low external control, and a locus in the actor which could strengthen the
perception of intentional actions by the School Council (Coombs 2004, p. 268). To interpret the
situation, crisis communicators should resort to the assessment of crisis type in order to correctly
specify the emphasis of evaluation (Druckman, cited in Coombs 2004, p. 269). Brown s dismissal falls
under the challenges crisis type in the accidental crisis cluster, for the stakeholders are not convinced

In terms of crisis history, Trinity Grammar has no identical cases that have reached the same scale of
the haircut saga in the past. However, the alarming staff turnover rate of over 150 teaching and support
staff leaving the school in the past four years was brought to public attention (News.com.au 2018).
With regard to relationship history, the four incidents highlighted in the statement from the 2017
School Leaders provided an uncomplimentary perspective in respect of the tenability of Dr Davies

Personality As Predictor, Personality, And General Knowledge
Personality as Predictor
According to Kluemper, Bing, and McLarty (2014), a person s reputation is based on their past
experiences. Also, managers use a person s past performance to predict the person s future
performance. This essay provides a definition of a measure and discusses how leaders measure the
personality trait of employees to explain their job performance. Also, how managers use
organizational past performance to predict future performance. Also, the paper describes how leaders
use employees personality trait to predict future job performance. Next, the paper explains how using
G and personality for predicting performances. Last, the essay discusses how the finding from an
employee s personality trait and general knowledge is used to make hiring decisions.
Measurement of Performance
A measure is a standard that leaders use as an indicator to test the consistency and stability of a worker
under constant and stressful conditions (Eisend Stokburger Sauer, 2013). The success of an
organization is contingent upon the employees performances. In Hassan, Akhtar, and Yilmaz (2016)
article on measuring the personality trait of workers, they discovered that employees with the
conscientiousness trait outperform their counterparts in overall job performance. Hassan et al. (2016)
described conscientiousness as one that is orderly, neat, prompt, meticulous, and organized. Hassan
and cohorts noted that workers with conscientiousness are high achievers that excel in academics

Facts About Nail Polish
There isn t a single formula for nail polish, stated the authors of http://www.madehow.com/Volume
1/Nail Polish.html. There are different ingredient types that are used. The ingredients are: film forming
agents, resins and plasticizers, solvents, and coloring agents. The process of a nail polish, apart from
being top secret, depends on choices made by chemists and chemical engineers in the different phases
of manufacturing. Also, as chemicals and other ingredients become accepted or rejected for some uses,
adjustments are made. For example, formaldehyde was used in polishes, but now it is mostly never
used. The main ingredient in nail polish is nitrocellulose cotton, a flammable and explosive ingredient
also used in making dynamite! Nitrocellulose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

You shouldn t throw your nail polish away, it isn t very wise and could lead to horrible
consequences. The EPA considers nail polish to be a household hazardous waste, so you should throw
away your unused bottles in a hazardous waste facility.
Storing nail polish in the bathroom is one of the biggest mistakes people make. And unlike what some
reports state, you shouldn t put polish in the fridge either. The coldness will cause the polish to
crystalize, which causes it to break down the formula. Instead, you should keep polish in a dry, room
temperature area, with no direct contact to sunlight.
Painting your nails is illegal on airplanes and leads to dire consequences. One woman was even
arrested for painting her nails on a flight! She did also use bad language and refuse to stop, but overall,
most airlines do not approve nail polish in the sky. Some other illegal polish uses are neon polishes.Or
at least the FDA hasn t approved of them. Certain pigments used to create neon and glow in the dark
polishes are illegal, but you will still find them in many stores. Many companies like OPI use formulas

Dealing with immobile patients is a big part of a registered nurse s daily tasks. Mrs. Simmons a 78
year old patient who fell and broke her hip must be carefully monitored so that she does not develop
further health problems. It is important to monitor and act accordingly with immobile patients,
because failure to do so can result in health risks and complications. Not only do immobile patients
require a different level of care, their rehabilitation is also different based on the reason as to why they
are immobile. Besides keeping the patient safe and secure it is also important to keep the attending

Using the proper lifting or movement technique is also another way to reduce strain on the
musculoskeletal system. The nurse can do this by shifting the center of gravity lower and keeping a
wide base of support that does not move easily. Additionally making sure that the bed is in the optimal
position for any type of movement is essential because it keeps the patient and nurse safe. Mrs.
Simmons was discharged by the physician with a partial cast which would require supplemental
teaching from the nurse. To keep her range of motion and other joints mobile the nurse must come up
with a exercise routine that the patient feels they can keep up with, such as lifting soup cans. If given a
cane or crutches the nurse must explain how to use them properly, as well as the different ways that
she could use them to walk. Finally the nurse can help keep Mrs. Simmons mobile by educating her
on the importance of keeping mobile so that her other joints does not atrophy. There are many reasons
why it is important to keep patients mobile, even when they are in a position where extended activity
is not feasible. Mrs. Simmons is at risk for many health ailments because of her immobility, some of
which include pressure ulcers, muscle weakness, and Atelectasis. Her attending nurse must keep these
in mind when talking to her about repositioning and also use the proper movement techniques and
assistive devices. Not only does the nurse have to keep Mrs. Simmons from developing health

Kmart Past Struggles
Kmart Past Struggles
Management is a key to success, and Kmart needs proper management to help create a positive image
that attracts more customers. Kmart s disorderly management and bankruptcy caused many customers
to shop with other retailers. According to Carr, Wal Mart and Kmart were the same size in 1990. Since
then, Kmart has grown far slower than its rival or the industry. Once one of the largest discount
retailers, Kmart filed for the biggest Chapter 11 bankruptcy for discount retailing in the United States
(2002). Struggling to find the right type of management has been one of Kmart s problems that
ultimately helped lead the company to its downfall. Kmart is constantly changing CEO s, and thus

Kmart s national struggle has affected the well being of many of its local stores. Since, Kalamazoo,
Michigan contains two stores one located on Stadium Drive and the other on Gull Road the impact in
this area is no exception. Local stores have suffered and need improvement, surveying a random group
of 12 students at Western Michigan University found that Kalamazoo stores have a very uninviting
appearance influencing consumers decisions to shop elsewhere, this survey was conducted in March
of 2005, Appendix A. Surveying these students has shown that most have no interest in Kmart, due to
lack of selection, quality, and untidiness. Store hours that end at ten o clock are not convenient for
students. Even though these stores have an excellent location, changes are necessary to improve
Kmart s image and therefore attract more customers.
Changes that can Benefit Kmart
Kalamazoo Kmarts can improve their image and marketing strategy to catch the attention of more
Kalamazoo students. According to city data, there are 29,471 college students attending one of the
three major colleges in the Kalamazoo area, these students make up 40% of the total population in this
region (2002). If local Kmarts were able to reach these young adults they could increase their profits

In this speech, President Monroe sought to establish specific guidelines for U.S. involvement in
international affairs (McCormick, pg. 10). It was believed that European powers would continue to
seek colonization in the Western Hemisphere and the infant United States feared the proximity of war
prone and powerful European neighbors. The strong admonitions of President George Washington
that, The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is ... to have with them as little
political connection as possible were not so distant as to be forgotten (McCormick, page 10).
Isolationism was the official foreign policy of the nation and it was from this frame of mind that
President Monroe gave a customary speech that became known as the Monroe Doctrine and
unknowingly shaped American foreign policy for the next 200 years. There are two prominent lines in
the Monroe Doctrine that overshadow the rest of the document: First, that American continents were,
henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European power and second
that the United States, could not view any interposition...by any European powers in any other light
than as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States (McCormick, pg. 11).

Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Com Essay
In Kenneth Branaghs film Mary Shelley amp;#8217;s Frankenstein, the director, Kenneth Branagh
sticks to the major themes of the original book with minute changes. There are many similarities and
differences between the book and Kenneth Branagh amp;#8217;s adaptation of the book. I believe
Mary Shelley wanted readers to catch the themes of child abandonment, presented in Victor
abandoning his creature. She also wanted readers to have compassion and sympathy for the abandoned
creature that Victor created out of dead body parts. Shelley wanted the creature to be similar to Victor
in many ways. Shelley wanted to show the relation between life and death, and the unbreakable laws
of nature. Shelley wanted readers to realize that we need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Shelley expressed the creation of the creature in the book was something like unnatural childbirth.
Kenneth Branagh interpreted this and used amniotic fluid in a metal encasing, and put needles into
certain pressure points of the body. This was almost like a manmade womb, and it surely represented
the theme of unnatural childbirth that Shelley brings to our attention in her novel. The little girl the
creature saves in the book is about to drown when the creature saves her. In the film a man is trying to
hurt the little girl and the creature pushes the guy out of the way, to save her. Then he gets invited into
the cottage by a blind man, but when Felix a family member of the blind man shows up he hits the
creature with a broomstick many times showing how many people see only what amp;#8217;s on the
outside. In the book Felix tried to shoot him. In the film Elizabeth got her heart ripped out by the
creature, and in the book it is not written specifically what the murder method was. The huge plot
change near the end, really amazed me. Victor had to bring Elizabeth back to life, because he wanted
her so bad. When she realized what Victor had done she committed suicide. In the book, this did not
happen there was only a funeral. Why would such a great director, want to poison such a great film,

A1. Bill Bailey
Adam s Equity Theory is a model of motivation which basically states that employees will perform at
a more productive rate if they feel that they are being treated fairly (Kreitner amp; Kinicki, 2010).
Equity is achieved when a worker perceives their reward for their amount of work to be equal to that
of a relevant worker. Negative inequity is perceived by the employee when the relevant worker
receives greater rewards for the same amount of work. Positive inequity is perceived by the employee
when the relevant worker receives fewer rewards for the same amount of work (Kreitner amp;

A3. Power There are two different types of power. Socialized power is directed at helping others while
personalized power is directed at helping oneself (Kreitner amp; Kinicki, 2010).
There are also five bases of power (Kreitner amp; Kinicki, 2010).
Reward Power Obtaining compliance through promised or actual rewards.
Coercive Power Obtaining compliance through threatened or actual punishment.
Legitimate Power Is the same as positional power obtaining compliance through formal authority.
Positional power is external to you. It is your important job title, college degree, etc. It can be taken

Analysis Of Our Secret By Susan Griffin
A particular question that is seldom pondered over and yet is capable of carrying so many doubts
within it: who are we? Who are we as a society who can do the things we do? Who are we who can
suffer from them? Award winning poet and essayist Susan Griffin confronts these distinct questions in
her work titled, Our Secret . Griffin believes that a basic understanding of the things that play a part in
the growth of an individual is essential to understanding who we are. The way a child is raised dictates
how that child is going to become later on in life. One of the distinct highlights of Griffin s essay was
her use of describing the progress of the V1 rockets in World War II. Griffin studies the aspects of
human nature by using these missile developments as a metaphor to symbolize the raising of children
and the factors that can influence a growing individual. One of the prime figures that Griffin uses
pertaining to these growing individuals was Heinrich Himmler, leader of the Nazi secret police.
Griffin uses Himmler as an example to demonstrate how big of a role a parental figure can play in the
development of a person.
The missile is guided by a programmed mechanism. There is no electronic device that can be jammed.
Once it is fired it cannot stop. As human beings, one of mankind s greatest talents is the ability to
absorb things from his or her surroundings as he or she continues to age. Children in particular are
easily influenced by factors that can shape their personality, whether if it s by the environment,
parental figures or friends. There is a common saying that a child does not know racism or hate at
birth; the child is only taught it. If a child grows up to become a racist, it s safe to assume that the
cause was from the influence of the guardians surrounding that child. In this text, the missiles are the
representation of young children guided by a programmed mechanism that is gradually shaping his or
her personalities as he or she grows older. What an individual grows up to become depends majorly on
the mechanism that is raising them.
The missile carries a warhead weighing 1,870 pounds. It has three different fuses to insure detonation.
It is easy for society to overlook the crushing

William Wordsworth s The Preface
Throughout history, at least until the late 1700s, poetry had always been centered on specific
guidelines that one must follow when expressing their feelings. However, once the late 1700s came
around in Europe, there was a sudden shift in the idealized poetry construction. The main reason for
this revolution was the publication of William Wordsworth s The Preface, which was a part of the
Lyrical Ballads, in which he stated his exact intentions for the Romantic Period of literature. This
period exemplified the radical changes that were beginning to occur in Europe, as well as other places
around the world.
In general, writers of this period expressed themselves through the use of imagination and emotion
instead of scholarly thoughts. In other words, they sought to use their inner eye in order to see the
world around them more clearly and accurately. Also, they believed all good aspects of life came
directly from nature, including the inherent good of humans as well as divine intervention. The writers
believed that by isolating oneself in nature, he or she would be able to become more self aware and
dependent. Due to this belief, the authors considered an important part of this period of literature to be
favoring the individual self over society as a whole. Various parts of life could be included in this, but
mostly just politics and social reform. Many poets were a part of this radical change in literature:
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, Jane Austen, and

Teaching Tenure, The Most Common One Is Job Protection Essay
While there are several reasons educators say they need tenure, the most common one is job
protection. This could possibly stem from the time before tenure when educators were fired for any
reason. Many like to point out that the time before was possibly one of the worst times to be a teacher
because of all the petty reasons one could have been fired. For example, if one was from a different
political party than the principal then said educator could be fired. Many female educators like to point
out how prior to 1886 they could have been fired for wearing pants and how previous to coherent
tenure laws, pregnant women were required to take two unpaid years off of work. Unfortunately many
of the reasons cited for the terminating of teachers is being ineffective. While the meaning of the word
not producing an significant or desired effect seems black and white there are many shades of gray in
between when discussing tenure. One major question when trying to determine effectiveness is how
exactly it should be determined. While it seems easy for school districts to determine who is and is not
effective in their schools, it is hard for them to do so and stay within the law. Many laws protect
teachers from being fired without a due process, meaning that tenured educators about to be fired are
entitled to a trial of their peers. This requires several different lawyers, substantial evidence, and of
course copious amounts of money. While this is a hassle for school districts,

This dance Is called the Motivational step dance. The main point of this dance is to keep persevering
and take steps to finish your goals or to start your goals, it is supposed to motivate the dancer. When
someone is feeling down and feels like they cannot succeed they can do this dance and it will give
them a boost of confidence to make it happen. The rhythm of music would be upbeat to get the people
pumped in accomplishing their goals. The music would get people up and start dancing. Maybe a little
drum roll at the beginning and then some peaceful melodies with a little bit of energy. There would be
two dancers, one is very upbeat, happy and rejoicing while dancing, the other would be sad and
mopping around. The happy dancer is trying to motivate the other to start dancing and be happy with
him. The happy dancer shows the sad one how he accomplishes his goals and how good he feels when
done. At the end both dancers are happy and enjoying life, even the little things in it. The movements
of the happy dancer are joyous and tells a story of how he accomplishes his dream. The sad dancer is

The Causes Of Learning Disabilities
In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk founded the term learning disabilities. This came about after he had
visited with a group of parents to discuss why their children seem to have small amounts of success
even when they can understand and comprehend things just like other children. As a result of this
meeting the Learning Disabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Learning
Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s ability to think and reason and
not understanding based on the results from tests. There are a few reasons why LD can occur. Boys are
more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and Asians. Most
adolescents with LD struggle with reading. They also have difficulties interacting with others,
expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of other. Last, the amount of teacher s
involvement with adolescents can reduce the dropout rate (Arnett; Pullen). First, it is important to
know the gender, genetics and behavior that contribute to LD. For every 1 female there are 3 males
that have LD. Even though the reason for this is not clear, there are 2 things that can contribute to this
outcome. First, is the higher rate of genetics if an adolescent has a monozygotic twin, parent or parents
with LD. In this case, the likelihood of the other twin or future children having LD is pretty high. As a
result, this is due to the brain functioning and processing in different ways than people

Role Of Women On The Sports Network
Going into this experiment I viewed the subordinate group that was distinct, but hasn t yet been done
having its own unique. This directed me towards women, the difference of women on commercials in
the sport network channels rather than feminine networks. I got this assumption from past experience;
my mom is an avid food and HGTV network watcher, while I m an avid watcher of ESPN. Specific
questions were asked to create a foundation that correctly fit the direction intended for the project and
its conclusions. In conclusion to the commercial experiment I found that the majority of women on the
networks like ESPN have a different appearance then women on the Food, Bravo, and HGTV
networks. My reasoning for this is there are more men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ill be asking questions like, how are the women portrayed? How often are the girls shown in the
commercials? What are the roles of the women in these commercials compared to networks like
BRAVO, HGTV, and FOOD? My procedure will consist of watching these different networks
examining the commercials that appeared in between sport events or talk shows. In the process of
examining the commercials I ll be taking notes, the note taking is strictly for reinsurance so I can go
back to support my claims being made. The notes are going to consist of the setting, who s in it, and
what roles do the girls play, if any. Using these steps I ll be able to efficiently discover the truth behind
this hypothesis I ve made.
First I d like to talk about ESPN, the most watched sports networking channel available; I began
watching the sports center, a show on the ESPN network that will show anything from game scores,
highlights, top 10 plays, not top 10 plays, upcoming events and the latest sports news. Most avid
watchers would say that this channel is mostly watched by men, people may make this assumption
from past experience weather that be with a wife, sister, mom, or another sibling. During my time
watching this network and show, I found commercials being more sports related but others being
manlier too. For example, I saw commercials like the X games, Lawn Mower advertisement

The internet. More bad than good
The early years of the 21st century have seen a blast in the Internet utilization. The fame of this
worldwide arrangement of the interconnected system continues developing continually from the day it
showed up in human life. Clearly, with the all inclusive access to data and an intelligent instrument to
impart that Internet offers, it is no difficult to comprehend why individuals all around the globe get
dependent on it. Online business, E Business, and E Marketing are marvels that show up as the
consequence of the Internet. There is undoubtedly no uncertainty about the advantages given by the
utilization of Internet in everyday life. It is about the negative impacts of the Internet which is the
issue, the absence of control over data sources, security spilling or web fixation is said to come up in
conversation as often as possible than any other time in recent memory. Never in the past did the
negative impacts of the Internet get as much as consideration in contrast with this century.
One of the most negative impacts of the internet is the absence of face to face communication. It
sounds very ironic when the absence of up close and personal correspondence is specified as one of
the contrary impacts of the Internet because the Internet should bring individuals nearer. The truth of
the matter is that by one means or another many individuals think that it s simpler to impart through

Cricket, A Civilized Game Essay
Many different sports and games have been invented and started in England. Many of these are still
played and remain very popular to the people of that country. The game of cricket is a very
complicated sport to those who have never played with all of the rules and regulations but is one to be
enjoyed by all. The exact measurements of the cricket playing field have not been officially agreed
upon. The area is usually around 450 feet by 500 feet. When setting up the wicket, three stumps and

Batting in cricket is very similar to the style of batting used in baseball. Batsmen may hit the ball in
any direction and, after hitting the ball, can elect to run to the opposite crease. If the batsmen runs, the
partner runs for the crease the batter has just left. If both runners reach the opposite creases before
either of them is put out, a run is scored (Funk an d Wagnalls 1). Batsmen can be put out by the initial
bowler by knocking the bail off the wicket, or if a fielder catches the ball before the ball hits the
ground. This batsmen will continue to bat until he is put out. A notable feat is to score 100 runs, a
century, in one time at bat. The batsmen remain at the wicket reached during the last run, so a different
batsmen may face the bowler. A bowler is similar to the pitcher in a baseball game. Bowlers deliver
the ball towards the batter either underhand or overhand, without bending their arms. The bowlers
intent is to get the ball past the batter without him hitting it and knock off one of the bails of the
wicket by hitting it directly or hitting a stump, causing a bail to fall. When the bowler has delivered an
over of six balls, a second bowler bowls from the opposite bowling pitch. The wicketkeeper and the
fieldsman shift their positions to be ready for the new bowler amp;#8217;s delivery. After the second
bowler delivers an over, the initial bowler resumes to bowl. The bowlers

The Count Of Monte Cristo Summary
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas was completed in 1844, and is one of his most well
known works, along with The Three Musketeers. Originally published in the Journal des Débats in a
serial of eighteen parts, the novel appeared in book form in Paris by Pétion in 18 volumes with the
first two issued in 1844 and the remaining sixteen in 1845. The story takes place in France, Italy, and
islands in the Mediterranean Sea in 1815 1839. This means that the story occurs during the era of the
Bourbon Restoration, and begins just before the Hundred Days period. The story follows Edmond
Dantès through the changes in personality in an attempt to seek revenge on those who ruined his
almost perfect life. Dumas seeks to show the results of jealousy and revenge, love and happiness in
this literary classic. The story opens in Marseilles with a crowd watching the ship Pharaon come into
port. Among the crowd is the owner of the ship, Monsieur Morrel, who is informed that the captain of
the ship passed away at sea. The ship s first mate, and the protagonist, Dantès assures Morrel that the
ship ran smoothly after the loss of the captain. The ship s supercargo Danglars, jealous of Dantès
abilities and praise, tries to tarnish the laudation by informing Morrel that Dantès made a stop at Elba.
Dantès replies it was under the wishes of the captain, to which Morrel congratulates him for following
the man s dying wishes. Morrel declares that after speaking to his partner, Dantès

The Historical And Cultural Context Of The Book Of Philemon
In order to better comprehend the concepts depicted in the book of Philemon it is important to gain an
understanding of its historical and cultural context. Philemon was written by the Apostle Paul in
approximately 60 62 A.D while he was imprisoned in Rome. The letter was written to his friend,
Philemon, who lived in the city of Colossae. Colossae was once a city of Phrygia, but in the time of
the New Testament was part of the Roman province of Asia. In its earlier days, this city was an
important location for several historical events. As a matter of fact, Xerxes, on his march to Sardes,
B.C. 481, reached Colossae after leaving Anaua. [ANAUA] The younger Cyrus, on his march from
Sardes towards the Euphrates, B.C. 401, passed through Colossae. He crossed the Maeander, and after
a march through Phrygia of 8 parasangs from the river, he came to Colossae, a large and prosperous
city (bible history). Its location contributed to its success, having been place in the valley in which the
Lycus River conjoins with Maeander River (modern day Turkey), along with two other incredibly
important cities: Laodicea and Hierapolis (pad field). This area was relatively wealthy, and the land
was fertile with an abundance of pastures that reared greats flocks of sheep. The chalk like consistency
of the water in the Lycus River was suitable for the production of dyes. Subsequently, Colossae
became the center of the wool industry and was well known for its dyeing of woolen clothing. Due to

Stravinsky Rhythm
In this performance, the rhythm is apparent and a defining feature of the piece. Sometimes the piece
becomes somewhat repetitive with ostinato patterns present a lot of the time. This piece is played and
composed in such a way that it draws the listener into a story. The rhythm plays a big part in this. On
the first page of the composition, Stravinsky changes the meter eight times in nine measures which
grabs the attention of the listener. Though the rhythms in the rite of spring are highly irregular, they
are still pulsed. This caused innovations in musical notation in the score to make the piece playable.
Sometimes sounding chaotic, Stravinsky expanded the use of polyrhythm. Creating a hectic and
unpleasant sound, nothing like this was done before. The piece s enormous harmonies move very
slowly indeed. This slow harmonies contradict the pie s sense of energy creating a very dissonant and
disturbing atmosphere. In 1913 this would have completely shocked the audience and contributed to
the events that took place on the premier. Although the piece is aggressive and bold in certain areas it
cannot be generically labelled as such. The introductions to both parts set a more ... Show more

Better understanding and insight of the value leads to appreciating it more, and provides a stronger
awareness and protection of the environment and habitat of the ecosystem. Calculating a monetary
value makes it even more powerful, because it seems like people have an easier time valuing services
that have their economic value in numbers over services that have a moral value only described
through the importance of them. Having a monetary value also makes it easier for governments to
make reasonable decisions and policies about the ecosystem. But at the same time, putting an obvious

Writing, for example, is as old as civilization itself, but arithmetic ¡V the systematic manipulation of
number symbols ¡V was really not a tool possessed by the ancients. Rather, the persistent use of
Roman numerals for financial transactions long after the introduction of Arabic numeration appears to
have hindered the earlier creation of double entry systems. Nevertheless, the problems encountered by
the ancients with record keeping, control and verification of financial transactions were not entirely
different from our current ones. Governments, in particular, had strong incentives to keep careful
records of receipts and disbursements ¡V particularly concerning taxes. And in any society where
individuals accumulated wealth, there was a desire by the rich to perform audits on the honesty and
skill of slaves and employees entrusted with asset management. But the lack of the above listed
antecedents to double entry bookkeeping made the job of an ancient accountant extraordinarily
difficult. In societies where nearly all were illiterate, writing materials costly, numeration difficult and
money systems inconsistent, a transaction had to be extremely important to justify keeping an
accounting record. Five thousand years before the appearance of double entry, the Assyrian,
Chaldaean Babylonian and Sumerian civilizations were flourishing in the Mesopotamian Valley,

Homelessness And Poverty And Homelessness
Imagine a world where it is illegal to sit down. Could you survive if there were no place you were
allowed to fall asleep, to store your belongings, or to stand still? For most of us, these scenarios seem
unrealistic to the point of being ludicrous. But, for homeless people across America, these
circumstances are an ordinary part of life. (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty 7)
While a portion of today s society turns a blind eye to the subject of the criminalization of
homelessness, an even larger quantity of people are not aware of the situation that is happening in
every major city of America. For those living an affluent lifestyle, it can be difficult to discuss the
amount of poverty and homelessness that is constantly occurring. The definition and meaning behind
the absence of home is also arduous to discuss. While homelessness is commonly associated with
sleeping outside or in provisional areas, this word also identifies with an absence of belonging. This
absence of belonging can relate not only to a community, but also to the people that dwell there
(Baumohl 3). Within the portion of those who are aware of the homelessness situation, there is a
section that detests the poverty stricken persons of our society. These biased members of the American
population express their antipathy in several ways. It is necessary to reveal the privileges that
homeless persons have been violently stripped of, and expose and broadcast the freedom they are

The Importance Of The Palladium Ballroom
Landmarks offer valuable insights into the values of the community, indicating what pieces of their
heritage retains the most significance. When a group of people leave their birthplace, it becomes a
necessity for them to preserve pieces of that which remind them of home. Such is the case for Latin
Americans with the Palladium Ballroom. Located above a drugstore on the corner of 53rd and
Broadway, there is nothing left of the Palladium Ballroom. It was once a popular Latino/a dance hall,
and became known as the home of the mambo (McMains, http://palladium
mambo.com/ballroom.shtml). The mambo, popularized in the 1940s and 50s bears little resemblance
to the basic steps of the modern day bastardization. However, before exploring the details of the
ballroom it is necessary to note the history and cultural significance of it to the New York Latin
American community. In the aftermath of World War II, an influx of immigrants from Latin American
countries found themselves traversing from their homelands to the unknown and heavily idealized
United States of America. Cuba was one of the countries that sent the most immigrants to America,
contributing to a cultural and socioeconomic change to the environment around Palladium. (Zhao,

Compare My Last Duchess And The Farmers Bride
Marriage and the Natural World
When examining both Robert Browning s, My Last Duchess, and Charlotte Mew s, The Farmers
Bride, the reader witnesses the poems positions of marriage in the natural world. Within both works, it
is quite evident how each relationship is vastly different from the modern world, yet parallel it at the
same time. Whether it be: the interactions between the two people or the conditions of the marriage, it
is made more than apparent that both can be applied to modern conceptualizations of marriage.
Within My Last Duchess, the reader is introduced to the character of Alfonso, the Duke of Ferrara.
Throughout the poem, Alfonso is talking to an emissary about his late wife (Robert Browning, My
Last Duchess). He then goes on to discuss in detail about how his wife would flirt with every man she
saw, She had a heart how shall I say? Too soon may glad, too easily impressed; she liked whate er she
looked on, and her looks went everywhere (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). From this statement,
it is made apparent that Alfonso and his previous wife didn t have the greatest of relationships, this is
further segmented when he goes on to say that she held no respect for the influence he bore, She
thanked men good! But thanked somehow I know not how as if she ranked my gift of a nine hundred
years old name with anybody s gift (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). Just from these two

  • 2. What Do John Maynard Keynes, Richard Norgaard, And Fred... What do John Maynard Keynes, Richard Norgaard, and Fred Block and Margaret Somers have in common? They all challenge widely accepted economic thinking and support thoughtful, progressive government action in the midst of social crises. In the 1930s, Keynes debunks a rationale for a laissez faire system that was perpetuating large scale human suffering and made a strong recommendation for government intervention. Norgaard then broadens Keynes s critique of assumptions underlying free market ideology to include all widely unquestioned and accepted economic beliefs which he terms economism and urges a transformation of this belief system toward discursive democracy to enable effective environmental regulation and economic redistribution (lecture). Adopting Keynes s focus on empirics while using a similar explanation as Norgaard, Block and Somers criticize a study of late eighteenth century British poor laws that is commonly used to oppose welfare policy while explaining that its widespread, unquestioning citation in academia and policy analysis points to the pervasiveness of conservative assumptions about the poor and what is natural. Altogether, these authors urge us to reconsider dominant economic stories that lack a circumspect, factual basis as we consider various social, environmental, and economic policy alternatives. John Maynard Keynes is the first economic maverick here who calls attention to the flaws in common economic assumptions while also expanding the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Haircut Saga Case Study Delving into the Trinity Grammar haircut saga, during the crisis phase, there are several concerns which enraged the stakeholders, namely the School Council s decision to sack Brown, its passive attitude, and empty promises. While the trigger event was unstable, the suddenness and negativity impacted attribution. Using the three attribution dimension, the Trinity Grammar haircut saga dons a high personal control, low external control, and a locus in the actor which could strengthen the perception of intentional actions by the School Council (Coombs 2004, p. 268). To interpret the situation, crisis communicators should resort to the assessment of crisis type in order to correctly specify the emphasis of evaluation (Druckman, cited in Coombs 2004, p. 269). Brown s dismissal falls under the challenges crisis type in the accidental crisis cluster, for the stakeholders are not convinced that Trinity Grammar is operating in an ... However, the alarming staff turnover rate of over 150 teaching and support staff leaving the school in the past four years was brought to public attention (News.com.au 2018). With regard to relationship history, the four incidents highlighted in the statement from the 2017 School Leaders provided an uncomplimentary perspective in respect of the tenability of Dr Davies position as Headmaster. The aspect of severity enables the organisation to perform damage appraisal and examine the potential issues that could arise from the current crisis (Coombs 2004, p. 271). The strong admonitions of President George Washington that, The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is ... to have with them as little political connection as possible were not so distant as to be forgotten (McCormick, page 10). Isolationism was the official foreign policy of the nation and it was from this frame of mind that President Monroe gave a customary speech that became known as the Monroe Doctrine and unknowingly shaped American foreign policy for the next 200 years. There are two prominent lines in the Monroe Doctrine that overshadow the rest of the document: First, that American continents were, henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European power and second that the United States, could not view any interposition...by any European powers in any other light than as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States (McCormick, pg. 11). There are many similarities and differences between the book and Kenneth Branagh amp;#8217;s adaptation of the book. I believe Mary Shelley wanted readers to catch the themes of child abandonment, presented in Victor abandoning his creature. She also wanted readers to have compassion and sympathy for the abandoned creature that Victor created out of dead body parts. Shelley wanted the creature to be similar to Victor in many ways. • 13. Analysis Of Our Secret By Susan Griffin A particular question that is seldom pondered over and yet is capable of carrying so many doubts within it: who are we? Who are we as a society who can do the things we do? Who are we who can suffer from them? Award winning poet and essayist Susan Griffin confronts these distinct questions in her work titled, Our Secret . Griffin believes that a basic understanding of the things that play a part in the growth of an individual is essential to understanding who we are. The way a child is raised dictates how that child is going to become later on in life. One of the distinct highlights of Griffin s essay was her use of describing the progress of the V1 rockets in World War II. Griffin studies the aspects of human nature by using these missile developments as a metaphor to symbolize the raising of children and the factors that can influence a growing individual. One of the prime figures that Griffin uses pertaining to these growing individuals was Heinrich Himmler, leader of the Nazi secret police. Griffin uses Himmler as an example to demonstrate how big of a role a parental figure can play in the development of a person. The missile is guided by a programmed mechanism. There is no electronic device that can be jammed. Once it is fired it cannot stop. As human beings, one of mankind s greatest talents is the ability to absorb things from his or her surroundings as he or she continues to age. Children in particular are easily influenced by factors that can shape their personality, whether if it s by the environment, parental figures or friends. There is a common saying that a child does not know racism or hate at birth; the child is only taught it. If a child grows up to become a racist, it s safe to assume that the cause was from the influence of the guardians surrounding that child. In this text, the missiles are the representation of young children guided by a programmed mechanism that is gradually shaping his or her personalities as he or she grows older. What an individual grows up to become depends majorly on the mechanism that is raising them. The missile carries a warhead weighing 1,870 pounds. It has three different fuses to insure detonation. • 14. William Wordsworth s The Preface Throughout history, at least until the late 1700s, poetry had always been centered on specific guidelines that one must follow when expressing their feelings. However, once the late 1700s came around in Europe, there was a sudden shift in the idealized poetry construction. The main reason for this revolution was the publication of William Wordsworth s The Preface, which was a part of the Lyrical Ballads, in which he stated his exact intentions for the Romantic Period of literature. This period exemplified the radical changes that were beginning to occur in Europe, as well as other places around the world. In general, writers of this period expressed themselves through the use of imagination and emotion instead of scholarly thoughts. In other words, they sought to use their inner eye in order to see the world around them more clearly and accurately. Also, they believed all good aspects of life came directly from nature, including the inherent good of humans as well as divine intervention. The writers believed that by isolating oneself in nature, he or she would be able to become more self aware and dependent. Due to this belief, the authors considered an important part of this period of literature to be favoring the individual self over society as a whole. Various parts of life could be included in this, but mostly just politics and social reform. • 15. Teaching Tenure, The Most Common One Is Job Protection Essay While there are several reasons educators say they need tenure, the most common one is job protection. This could possibly stem from the time before tenure when educators were fired for any reason. Many like to point out that the time before was possibly one of the worst times to be a teacher because of all the petty reasons one could have been fired. For example, if one was from a different political party than the principal then said educator could be fired. Many female educators like to point out how prior to 1886 they could have been fired for wearing pants and how previous to coherent tenure laws, pregnant women were required to take two unpaid years off of work. Unfortunately many of the reasons cited for the terminating of teachers is being ineffective. While the meaning of the word not producing an significant or desired effect seems black and white there are many shades of gray in between when discussing tenure. One major question when trying to determine effectiveness is how exactly it should be determined. While it seems easy for school districts to determine who is and is not effective in their schools, it is hard for them to do so and stay within the law. Many laws protect teachers from being fired without a due process, meaning that tenured educators about to be fired are entitled to a trial of their peers. This requires several different lawyers, substantial evidence, and of course copious amounts of money. While this is a hassle for school districts, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s ability to think and reason and not understanding based on the results from tests. They also have difficulties interacting with others, expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of other. Last, the amount of teacher s involvement with adolescents can reduce the dropout rate (Arnett; Pullen). First, it is important to know the gender, genetics and behavior that contribute to LD. • 29. The Historical And Cultural Context Of The Book Of Philemon In order to better comprehend the concepts depicted in the book of Philemon it is important to gain an understanding of its historical and cultural context. Philemon was written by the Apostle Paul in approximately 60 62 A.D while he was imprisoned in Rome. The letter was written to his friend, Philemon, who lived in the city of Colossae. Colossae was once a city of Phrygia, but in the time of the New Testament was part of the Roman province of Asia. In its earlier days, this city was an important location for several historical events. As a matter of fact, Xerxes, on his march to Sardes, B.C. 481, reached Colossae after leaving Anaua. [ANAUA] The younger Cyrus, on his march from Sardes towards the Euphrates, B.C. 401, passed through Colossae. He crossed the Maeander, and after a march through Phrygia of 8 parasangs from the river, he came to Colossae, a large and prosperous city (bible history). Its location contributed to its success, having been place in the valley in which the Lycus River conjoins with Maeander River (modern day Turkey), along with two other incredibly important cities: Laodicea and Hierapolis (pad field). This area was relatively wealthy, and the land was fertile with an abundance of pastures that reared greats flocks of sheep. The chalk like consistency of the water in the Lycus River was suitable for the production of dyes. Subsequently, Colossae became the center of the wool industry and was well known for its dyeing of woolen clothing. Due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Stravinsky Rhythm In this performance, the rhythm is apparent and a defining feature of the piece. Sometimes the piece becomes somewhat repetitive with ostinato patterns present a lot of the time. This piece is played and composed in such a way that it draws the listener into a story. The rhythm plays a big part in this. On the first page of the composition, Stravinsky changes the meter eight times in nine measures which grabs the attention of the listener. Though the rhythms in the rite of spring are highly irregular, they are still pulsed. This caused innovations in musical notation in the score to make the piece playable. Sometimes sounding chaotic, Stravinsky expanded the use of polyrhythm. Creating a hectic and unpleasant sound, nothing like this was done before. The piece s enormous harmonies move very slowly indeed. This slow harmonies contradict the pie s sense of energy creating a very dissonant and disturbing atmosphere. In 1913 this would have completely shocked the audience and contributed to the events that took place on the premier. Although the piece is aggressive and bold in certain areas it cannot be generically labelled as such. The introductions to both parts set a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A recently built, new theatre in Paris had the privilege of hosting the premier night of Stravinsky s Rite of Spring. On that night, events took place that no one saw coming. A reaction was expected, but not of the magnitude that took place. Having had a successful previous year with his piece Petrushka great things were expected from Stravinsky and he was hoping for the new ballet to be an even bigger than anything he d written before. Writing, for example, is as old as civilization itself, but arithmetic ¡V the systematic manipulation of number symbols ¡V was really not a tool possessed by the ancients. Rather, the persistent use of Roman numerals for financial transactions long after the introduction of Arabic numeration appears to have hindered the earlier creation of double entry systems. Nevertheless, the problems encountered by the ancients with record keeping, control and verification of financial transactions were not entirely different from our current ones. Governments, in particular, had strong incentives to keep careful records of receipts and disbursements ¡V particularly concerning taxes. And in any society where individuals accumulated wealth, there was a desire by the rich to perform audits on the honesty and skill of slaves and employees entrusted with asset management. But the lack of the above listed antecedents to double entry bookkeeping made the job of an ancient accountant extraordinarily difficult. In societies where nearly all were illiterate, writing materials costly, numeration difficult and money systems inconsistent, a transaction had to be extremely important to justify keeping an accounting record. Five thousand years before the appearance of double entry, the Assyrian, Chaldaean Babylonian and Sumerian civilizations were flourishing in the Mesopotamian Valley, producing some of the oldest known records of commerce. • 34. Homelessness And Poverty And Homelessness Imagine a world where it is illegal to sit down. Could you survive if there were no place you were allowed to fall asleep, to store your belongings, or to stand still? For most of us, these scenarios seem unrealistic to the point of being ludicrous. But, for homeless people across America, these circumstances are an ordinary part of life. (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty 7) While a portion of today s society turns a blind eye to the subject of the criminalization of homelessness, an even larger quantity of people are not aware of the situation that is happening in every major city of America. For those living an affluent lifestyle, it can be difficult to discuss the amount of poverty and homelessness that is constantly occurring. The definition and meaning behind the absence of home is also arduous to discuss. While homelessness is commonly associated with sleeping outside or in provisional areas, this word also identifies with an absence of belonging. This absence of belonging can relate not only to a community, but also to the people that dwell there (Baumohl 3). Within the portion of those who are aware of the homelessness situation, there is a section that detests the poverty stricken persons of our society. These biased members of the American population express their antipathy in several ways. It is necessary to reveal the privileges that homeless persons have been violently stripped of, and expose and broadcast the freedom they are entitled to. Through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Importance Of The Palladium Ballroom Landmarks offer valuable insights into the values of the community, indicating what pieces of their heritage retains the most significance. When a group of people leave their birthplace, it becomes a necessity for them to preserve pieces of that which remind them of home. Such is the case for Latin Americans with the Palladium Ballroom. Located above a drugstore on the corner of 53rd and Broadway, there is nothing left of the Palladium Ballroom. It was once a popular Latino/a dance hall, and became known as the home of the mambo (McMains, http://palladium mambo.com/ballroom.shtml). The mambo, popularized in the 1940s and 50s bears little resemblance to the basic steps of the modern day bastardization. However, before exploring the details of the ballroom it is necessary to note the history and cultural significance of it to the New York Latin American community. In the aftermath of World War II, an influx of immigrants from Latin American countries found themselves traversing from their homelands to the unknown and heavily idealized United States of America. Cuba was one of the countries that sent the most immigrants to America, contributing to a cultural and socioeconomic change to the environment around Palladium. • 37. Compare My Last Duchess And The Farmers Bride Marriage and the Natural World When examining both Robert Browning s, My Last Duchess, and Charlotte Mew s, The Farmers Bride, the reader witnesses the poems positions of marriage in the natural world. Within both works, it is quite evident how each relationship is vastly different from the modern world, yet parallel it at the same time. Whether it be: the interactions between the two people or the conditions of the marriage, it is made more than apparent that both can be applied to modern conceptualizations of marriage. Within My Last Duchess, the reader is introduced to the character of Alfonso, the Duke of Ferrara. Throughout the poem, Alfonso is talking to an emissary about his late wife (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). He then goes on to discuss in detail about how his wife would flirt with every man she saw, She had a heart how shall I say? Too soon may glad, too easily impressed; she liked whate er she looked on, and her looks went everywhere (Robert Browning, My Last Duchess). From this statement, it is made apparent that Alfonso and his previous wife didn t have the greatest of relationships, this is further segmented when he goes on to say that she held no respect for the influence he bore, She thanked men good!
