An Account of the Rosewood Incident
After the reconstruction period there was high tension between the whites and blacks in the south.
Whites wanted nothing to do with black people and didn t want to have to share anything with
them. Whites did everything they could to intimidate blacks to keep them in their place . Black
people wanted nothing but to live their lives with their new found freedom, but they saw that no
matter what the law said they would never be accepted by the white community. White peopleoften
acted out in violence towards blacks whatever chance they got to drive them out. Anything a black
person did could result in violence. An example of the violence and hatred shown towards blacks
is the events of an incident in Rosewood, Florida in 1923. This incident was documented and the
accounts of blacks who were children at the time were taken down.
In 1923 in the town of Rosewood, Florida a white woman named Fannie Taylor who had been
having an affair was beaten one afternoon while her husband was at work by her lover. Mrs.
Taylor had a woman come by to help her with household duties named Sarah Carrier, she saw the
man who attacked Mrs. Taylor as did some of her black neighbors. Mrs. Taylor cried for help,
when someone came to her aid and asked who it was that did that to her out of fear she said it was
a black man. Her accusation that it was a black man caused hunt for this man throughout the town.
A man named Jesse Hunter who had recently escaped from the chain gang was a suspect. The

Interview With A Graphic Designer
I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous
Graphic Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it
is very important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds
best pieces of work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself
and not any online articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of
design thinking is a very independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day
after day of new methods of research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of
people such as fresh students who seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes
professional graphic designers who have been seen as an expert in their field lack the
knowledge of understanding a great design thinking strategy or need aide in this domain. Design
thinking is all about the design specific skills that a designer applies during the process of
designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic designer as this thought process can be applied
to a lot of people in the creative industries such as interior and exterior designers, game designers
and even architects. Design thinking has now come to be characterised as fusing the appreciation of
other designers and people that can produce beautiful projects and incorporating it into your own
work. It s the imaginative concept and the coherence to figure out the

Public Broadcasting in the Article “Moving beyond the...
In their article Moving beyond the Vast Wasteland , Laurie Ouellette and Justin Lewis critique how
public broadcasting functions in the US. Liberal reformers hold to the view that television needs
protection from commercialism. The liberal reformer view contains cultural and class hierarchies.
They believe that public television is for the white, college educated middle class viewer who has
cultural capital (Ouellette Lewis, 96). As a result, funding for public broadcastinghas gone primarily
towards high culture and intellectual programs and not sitcoms or other popular forms of
television. Ouellette and Lewis disagree with this, saying that these types of high brow
programming are not the only ones worthy of public investment. Instead, they argue that popular
programs that are being commercially maintained also merit public support and investment (96).
Rather than reserving public broadcasting for more educational programming, the authors argue
that there is a more progressive solution that can incorporate popular media forms while still
veering away from commercialization. Thus far, pubic television has failed to adopt popular media
forms. Public television stations such as PBS failed to attract larger and more diverse audiences
because they kept their programming intellectual and dull rather than building on popular aspects
of television culture. Ouellette and Lewis argue that PBS could have incorporated sitcoms, soaps,
and sports into their programming and then

Research Paper On Materialistic Society
Our Materialistic Society
The term materialism is known as a philosophy, and also an issue in our society. By definition,
materialism is the theory or attitude that physical well being and worldly possessions constitute the
greatest good and highest value in life (Khan). This means that our society has a tendency to
consider material items or money as more important than our spiritual values. Since youth, children
have thought that having more stuff, or better stuff, is happiness. Everyone always wants to buy the
latest device, or the newest trends, when they don t really need it. According to DeAngelis,
Compared with Americans in 1957, today we own twice as many cars per person, eat out twice as
often and enjoy endless other commodities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, you can avoid impulsive buying by waiting at least two weeks before buying
something you think you want. That way, if you don t want it anymore, you won t regret buying it
(Meeks). You can also skip window shopping the next time you go to the mall or pass by a store;
it s better not to tempt yourself. In addition, instead of buying the newest things that come out, you
can just wait until you need to replace them. If everyone just tried to be less materialistic, we can
make our society less focused on things and more on what truly

Lady With An Ermine Essay
Lady with an Ermine is a painting by Italian Leonardo da Vinci from around 1489 1490. During
this time on rebirth for the arts some artist decided to take a more natural and abstract view on art
while others (like da Vinci) still typically followed the realism route. With that being said his Lady
with the Ermine is a very interesting portrait painting. This beautiful woman is dressed in fine red
and green garb the contours of her clothing is soft and smooth and almost blends into her pale
complexion. Her face is deep and three dimensional, his use of shading and shadow makes her
seem like she is standing right in front of you. The line quality of the lady and soft and flowing
while the ermine is more wild the lines used to create the ermine is jagged and choppy for create
its fur and to contrast to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her head looks very cropped, its improved the framing of the outer parts of the artwork. There is
a lot of negative space around her, in the background. There are some positive space in this
artwork like the ermine is a big part of the artwork, so if it wasn t there then the artwork wouldn t
have any meaning since its called Lady with an Ermine. Same goes for the Lady if Cecilia
Gallerani wasn t in the picture then it would remove the whole meaning of it being a portrait and
again that its called Lady with an Ermine. This artwork is a closed composition because since its a
portrait, it shows everything that needs to be shown in a portrait.
For this artwork there is no middle ground included. The reason is that I don t think he wanted
anything to appear far in the distance, because I think he just wants it to be a simple portrait
without anything appearing in the background to make it more complex. And its a portrait so it
maybe most likely for no middle ground. This is often where the main action takes place, and in
this artwork Leonardo didn t want anything else to catch the viewers eye other than the

5 October 2015 The plant Medusahead or Taeniatherum caput medusae is an invasive species. The
Medusahead plant came to America from Europe. The seeds attached to the fur of the livestockthat
was imported by the ships. As the livestock roamed the seeds dispersed throughout the area.
Medusahead is still growing and causing damage to the environment. It is crowding out the other
native plants, crowding them out and stopping their ability to germinate. It is native to the
Mediterranean region. The species was first seen in the United States near Roseburg, Oregon in
1887. It is also mostly located in the western side of the U.S. Medusahead ... Show more content on

By itself it is about 1.5 to 2.5 feet tall and very fuzzy or grassy at the top. It has a fuzzy stem and
sometimes can look like a cattail. In a group it looks like normal tall grass, but when you get
close up, you can see that it is only grassy at the top. It spreads very quickly and has a clumping
habitat. This is how you identify Medusahead. There are many ways to remove Medusahead.
Technically speaking, chemicals are the best removal method. Herbicides are a good tool for
managing Medusahead populations and often improve the success of other control methods such as
tillage, burning, or re vegetation. Grazing is only somewhat effective because the animals don t
always eat it and mechanical removal doesn t kill the roots. Controlled burn on the other hand, is
very effective. It kills down to the roots, killing the entire plant. This proves why chemical removal
is the best method. There are many interesting facts about Medusahead. One is that it creates a
silica layer around itself preventing bugs from eating it. Medusahead often initially establishes
itself on livestock, allowing it to easily disperse into the environment and grow in various
locations. This is why it is common along trails and open fields. Because of its fuzzy tops, it is
commonly mistaken for the Cattail plant. These are just a few of the many interesting facts about
the Medusahead

The Bank For International Settlement
In an ever changing foreign exchange market countries and corporations were searching for a
system that could help reduce the risk involved while handling foreign exchange situations. With
the demise of the Bankhaus Herstatt in 1974 a system that could protect against the risk of FX
settlements was in dire need. The Bank for International Settlement developed the Continuous
Linked Settlement (CLS) in 2002. The group would provide the members associated with them the
allowance to use the foreign exchange market as a national payment system. According the
textbook, International Finance by Maurice Levi, the definition of the Continuous Linked
Settlement is A procedure for banks to settle accounts between themselves that credits and debit
accounts simultaneously. It Is designed to reduce the risk in the financial system. (Levi, p. 546)
JPMorgan Chase and Co defines the process of the Continuous Linked Settlement as a process
which provides for payment vs payment in the settlement of foreign exchange transactions. ( JP
Morgan Treasury Services p. 1) From these two definitions, it can be concluded that the CLS was
indeed developed to help reduce the risk as payments from both parties would be made
simultaneously to ensure that the residing parties would receive their payment. Before this system
was in place it was very difficult to ensure that if one party made their required payment that the
other side would one even make the payment or to use the correct foreign exchange

Hierarchy Of Needs Theory Maslow
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory (Humanistic Theory of Self Actualisation) originally
comprised five levels of needs, usually represented as a pyramid, which in itself is a clever
concept because like a pyramid each layer needs the preceding layer to be firmly in place before
the next layer can be achieved which is probably the ideology of Maslow s theory. Maslow
differs from Freud s theory in that he takes a pragmatic approach, emphasising the importance of
the positive to promote a positive state of mind in the here and now , rather than the in depth
psychoanalysis emphasising what is wrong with me approach of Freud. Maslow accepted that all
humans have certain personality traits, such as boring, reserved, silly, aggressive; however, he
believed most people have the potential to elevate themselves to a higher level of awareness and...

Friendship needs: What we need to feel a sense of belonging through companionship, social
interaction, acceptance and love. Social needs include belongingness, love, affection, intimacy,
family, friends and relationships. If a person physiological needs are met they can create and
maintain satisfying and fulfilling relationships with others. Even if a person s basic needs are
met, social needs are very important. For instance, a person with no friends is more likely to
suffer feelings of isolation, loneliness and possible low self esteem, and may lack direction,
structure or motivation in their life. Level 4.Esteem needs: As basic needs are met, the esteem
need become important i.e. a level of confidence, including confidence within social groups.
Esteem needs include self esteem, confidence, achievement, recognition, a higher level of
motivation, respect, etc. A person with high esteem is more likely to be able to cope with life s

Louisville Flood Victims By Margaret Bourke-White
Description:
Margaret Bourke White. Louisville Flood Victims. 1937. Photograph.
Analysis:
Margaret Bourke White utilizes the actual horizontal lines of the billboard, as well as the implied
lines of the people s heads. The repetition of the people along with the faces on the billboard,
forcefully move the attention horizontally to the right of the photograph. This, in turn, makes the
viewer anticipate what is coming next. Although we know that the people are in a state of motion,
there is a sense of stillness as if the moment will never end. At first glance, the balance appears to
be somewhat symmetrical, but looking further, one notices the small cluster of children in the
bottom left corner, casting the balance as asymmetrical. It also appears as if there is a downward
slope going from the furthermost right, to the furthermost left of the image. The colors seem varied
and dark, contrasting the coats of the individuals with the stark white bags, and the intrusive bright
colors of the billboard, this creates a contrast in the mood of the apparent glee of the billboard, with
the traumatic expressions of the individuals. Although black and white, the image uses a wide
range of light and dark, going from the bright white of the bags and billboard, to the deep darks
of the coats and few of the glum faces. In between these two extremes, there are varying shades of
light and dark in the billboard and surrounding scene. Finally, the emphasis is placed on the people,
the victims of the Louisville flood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Into their midst comes John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a mountainous but child like
black man, convicted of murdering two small children, but whose demeanour leads Edgcomb to
believe that Coffey is innocent. For a while, life on the green mile remains normal, until the day
it transpires that Coffey possesses the ability to heal people through the power of touch. The
Green Mile is a 3 hour film of two halves: firstly, painting a vivid portrait of life on death row, and
the trivialities that brighten up the lives of the people who live and die there. The second half of
the movie is given to exploring Coffey himself: his past, his crime, and his powers. He is initially
misunderstood by those around him, is convicted of a crime he did not commit, he greatly enriches
the lives of those around him, and is eventually executed for refusing to proclaim his own
innocence. Much of Thomas Newman s music is rooted in the sounds of the deep south, with
several interesting cues written for an eclectic ensemble including such weird and wonderful
instruments as a bowed travelling guitar, a Vietnamese banjo, a jaw harp, bass marimbas, a tonut
and the omnipresent saz. Occasionally, the music attains a kind of hypnotic sensibility that draws
the listener in, but at other times it

Othello and Frankenstein Essay
From Man to Monster When monsters are thought of a very distinct picture comes to mind. An
ugly creature that is out for blood, born into a life where causing misery is his driving force. Do
these features really define what a monster is; works of literature like Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
and Shakespeare s Othellotell quite a different story. Monsters are not born but made just as
people are not born evil but can sometimes end up there. Othello and the Monster start of as good
men looking to be part of society but were pushed out because of what others perceived them to be.
This caused them to mentally and physically isolate themselves from everyone allowing hatred to

Since Othello is being manipulated he finds it hard to be around any one causing him to separate
himself from his loved ones and colleagues. When asking to speak with Desdemona to question
her on her infidelity he tells her, Get you to bed on th instant. I will be returned/ forth with.
Dismiss your attendant there. Look t be/ done. (Shakespeare IV, iii, 7 9). He is uncomfortable
talking to her in the presence of Emilia, almost like an outsider being involved would confuse him
further. His separation from all other characters other than Iago keeps him from knowing the truth.
This causes his mind to run wild and come up with reasons that justify him in his monstrous actions
that have become more frequent. However, in comparison the Monsters physical isolation causes
him to mentally isolate himself. After being abandon by Frankenstein the Monster is forced to live
on his own in the woods. Realizing that human kind will never truly accept him he asks Victor to
create him a mate stating, I am alone and miserable man will not associate with me (Shelley, 118).
When Victor ultimately denies the Monster of companionship he becomes enraged again
continuing to lose his faith in mankind. The Monsters physical segregation fuels his mental
isolation whole Othello s mental isolation fuels his physical segregation. Othello and the Monster
are also mentally isolated in very different ways. Othello s mental isolation is driven by Iago s
manipulation.

Hugo Film Techniques
Hi everyone this week The Australian Film Institute has asked me look at the special effects in
Hugo. Chroma key, models, CGI and stunts all come under Special effects, which are illusions to
the eye seen on screen. But today I ll just be discussing the sub elements of Chroma key and
models. Also, how they add to the overall entertainment value and their impact on the audience.
[Hugo 21 in background fades in] Chroma keyis created by green or blue screens where images are
inserted into the area where the green or blue screens are. Because green and blue are colours
very different to human skin they are used to layer images over without covering people and props.

He s not actually hanging from a high point above the streets of Paris. Chroma key builds
suspense and the viewers are afraid and led to believe that Hugo could really fall off. These
emotions that the viewers have because of the imagery created by Chroma key. [Hugo 3 in
background fades in] Another sub element of special effects are Models, mini scenes made and
filmed so that they look big and real in the film. Models are made so that real size sets, that are
expensive, don t have to be created. These scenes build suspense and are exciting as the audience
is in awe at how this set could have been created. In Hugo this can be seen in Hugo s dream
where the train crashes through and out of the train station. The train crash scene isn t actually
real size but is well made so that it looks realistic when on screen. This is because the creators of
the train crash model went to great detail, such as how the glass shatters and explodes on the
model, to make this more visually effective. It also seems more realistic because scenes before
show real people at the station and this mix of reality and the model makes it seem more

Analysis Of Concrete Angel By Martina Mcbride
Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the
messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners
about unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina
McBride uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina
McBriderecorded a song titled Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song
addresses the general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of
tragedies such as child abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals,
characterization, imagery, and foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young
girl s abuse in order to call the bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the
song, the story creates emotional appeal with the use of bystanders. The bystander mentioned in
verse two is, The teacher wonders, but she doesn t ask/ It s hard to see the pain behind the mask
(lines 5 6). The teacher s reaction is a common experience for many adults because most adults
assume the child is not abused if he or she appears okay. Another bystander mentioned is,
Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ The neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16).
Since the bystander ignores her plea for help, the audience develops sympathy for her because the
girl is helpless. Sympathy is the main objective of these lyrics, and if the audience has compassion
for the young girl, they might take action instead of being bystanders. Through emotional appeals,
the underlying message of these lyrics attempts to persuade the listeners not to be complacent as
bystanders. The artist uses music to evoke people s emotion because most people listen and relate
to music. The article Martina McBride Finds Additional Voices to Express Herself Ahead of Show
in North Myrtle Beach mentions, Raising awareness, she [Martina McBride] said, makes you feel
something as an individual to make a difference, and we all appreciate that (Palisin). When
bystanders take action, they can prevent an abusive situation and raise more awareness. Concrete

A Puerto Rican Childhood Analysis
Cautionary old wive s tales have long been an effective way to teach children morality and
values without boring them. In Judith Ortiz Cofer s A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican
Childhood (rpt. In Santi V. Buscemi and Charlotte Smith, 75 Readings Plus, 10th ed. [New York:

attention her audience. Cofer s grandmother often tells these cuentos to her daughters and
granddaughters over afternoon coffee. These stories are used as an indirect way for Mama to teach
her familythe values and lessons that she has learned throughout her life. With her family
members, Mama s presence demands a universal respect. Everyone in the room listens to what
Mama has to say, even if it s not what they want to hear. Mama is the absolute leader among the
women her family and her opinions are held in high regard. Cofer acknowledges this saying that

Throughout the years, scientists have been looking for the missing mass of the universe; it has yet
remained an unsolved mystery. Using different methods, scientists have tried to determine the mass
of the universe and surprisingly found a discrepancy suggesting that ninety percent of the mass of
the universe is nowhere to be found. Then here comes the term dark matter , referring to this
unfound matter of the universe. It is called dark because it gives off no light and matter because it
has to have some mass to be able to explain the effects that they produce. There have been different

Copernicus and his Explanation ==============================
Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer, and his explanation about how the solar system
moves around the sun became the groundwork of modern astronomy. Furthermore, he proposed that
the sun is the center of the universe. He said that if one assumed that the sun is the center of the
universe, it would be simpler to describe the positions of the other planets and their movements,

valid.

It has been noted the vital role that mothers play in a child s healthy development. Therefore if
mothers are abused research done by Sandra A. Graham Bermann, Co Director of the
Interdisciplinary Family Violence Research Program, has shown that Children who were exposed
to parental violence had many more behavioral problems, exhibited significantly more negative
affect, responded less appropriately to situations, were more aggressive with peers, and had more
ambivalent relationships with their caregivers than those from nonviolent families. (Graham
Bermann, S. A., Levendosky, A. A., 1998). Another factor that can play a negative role in a child s
development is that parents may hold unreasonable expectations from their children due to how
they themselves were brought up. Seymour Rosenberg a head of the department of Psychology at
The State University of New Jersey helped their study come to the conclusion that It has also been
shown that abusive parents often have unrealistic expectations for their children expectations based
on distorted perceptions of their children s needs, feelings, and abilities (Herzog, E. P., Gara, M.
A., Rosenberg, S., 1992). Due to this it can cause the child to grow up confused and scared which
may lead them to use the same maltreatment towards their kids which will only further the
intergenerational abuse. However, Research has also shown that

Research Proposal On Hydroelectric Generator
Science Fair Proposal
Edward Montanez

Abstract
A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the
hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. I
will be constructing my own hydroelectric generator in order to show it is possible to create
electricity using large volumes of water, enough power to light a light bulb.
Background
Making Electricity and Hydroelectric Generators
Electricity is the flow of electrons through a metal wire, or through a conductor. Electrons are tiny
particles found in atoms, and is also one of the building blocks of all matter. Electrons carry tiny
negative charges, when they move through a conductor they produce a little invisible magnetic
force. The strength depends on how in motion the electrons are. Pushing the electrons a little closer
and tighter can cause a stronger field. When electrons produce a magnet force, you can use a
magnet to make the electrons mover which is how an hydroelectric generator works.
A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the
hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. For
more than 100 years the simplest way to produce the volumes of falling water needed to make
electricity was to use dams to create electricity. But sometimes dams

How To Evaluate Expedition Strategy To Sicily
Evaluation of Expedition Strategy to Sicily
According to the Thucydides book edited by Robert B. Strassler, the Peloponnesian War was
conducted between 431 401 BC among Athenians and Spartans ancient Greece states cities with
their respective alliance. Main objective of the war was struggle for empire domination, and fear of
being dominating. The Athenian and Spartans were the main rival powers. The Athenians were
dominant in sea power, in the other hand, Spartans were strong in land power. As the result of
limitation in either power, that created misbalance on military capability. Both cities tried to have
symmetric military capability by forming alliance. The Athenians national interest was expanding
their empire by supporting their allies from Sparta lead alliance country. Due to this reason, the
Athenian deployed their forces to Sicily two times. The first was in 427 BC, the forces was
commanded by Leaches and Euphiletus because of the war between Syracusans and Leontines. The
second was the final expeditions campaign to Sicily lead by three generals, ... Show more content

Finally, after repeated effort, the assembly voted to expeditions. It could benefited to vote the

the werewolf character with special effects and take the classic make up look instead. The director
of this movie should be commended for instilling his subject matter with enough dramatic intensity
to appeal to an adult demographic without forgetting the primary intent of such a film to thrill and

According to Exodus 20:11 : For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea,
and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day
and hallowed it. This verse is found in the middle part of the TРµn CommandmРµnts. God told
the Israelites that the reason they had to work six days and rest on the seventh day, is because
He created everything and rested on the seventh day. It is thus not realistic to think we have to
work for six long periods (millions of years) and rest for another long period. The Bible also states
that Jesus woke up three days after his crucifixion, which could not mean millions of years.
Meredith Kline, from Westminster Theological Seminary proposed that Genesis should be
interpreted metaphorically and not literally like most of us do. Old Earth creationists believe that
scientific evidence cannot be overlooked. Scientists use the method of radiometric aging from
meteorite material to determine the age of Earth. Fossils were found that are much older than a few
thousand years, for example dinosaurs.

does not have a valid explanation of how life initially began, that is where science and Christianity

Examining The Life Of Sylvia Plath As Seen Within
Examining the Life of Sylvia Plath as Seen Within Lady Lazarus Sylvia Plath s poem, Lady
Lazarus , was greatly about the author s life: the influence by her suicide attempts, years of
troubled mental health, and stressed relationships with her father and husband. The opening lines
of Lady Lazarus read I have done it again. / One year in every ten (Plath 1 2). These two lines
immediately reference Plath s suicide attempts, her first of three being in 1953 when she was just a
university student, where she took a bottle of sleeping pills, water, and a blanket down to her cellar
and proceeded to down sleeping pills until she became unconscious (Steinberg). Throughout Plath s

/ This is Number Three (21 22) referring to her first two suicide attempts, the poem being written
only four months before her third and final suicide attempt (Herrman). However, strangely
enough, it is debated as to whether her suicide attempts were supposed to be just that, attempts,
and not with the final goal of ending her life. It is argued that Plath intended to be found, even
leaving a note for her neighbor, whom she knew would be home, listing her doctor s contact
information, and hiring a nanny to look after the children, further exemplifying her strange
relationship with death (Steinberg). However, the gas from the stove, which she used to kill
herself, also seeped through the floor, knocking out her neighbor below (Steinberg). This factor
of her suicide attempt was not planned for, and may have been what ultimately resulted in her
death. Though theatrical, it is worth noting that the women on her father s side had a history of
mental health issues (Herrman). Plath herself even calls out the theatrics: [i]t s the theatrical /

Relationship of Societal Institutions and the Concept of...
Pierre Bourdieu is a French sociologist who presents a focus on the relationship of societal
institutions and the concept of habitus. Habitus is simply the socially structured norms that
influence individuals in order to direct the ideas and behaviors that make them who they are. With
this, habitus does not allow individuals to possess complete freedom of their thoughts and
perceptions. The individual s expressions, judgments, thoughts, perceptions, and behaviors are all
reflective of societal structures such as, class, gender, politics, and education which are then
reproduced by their actions. These common practices and perceptions are formed by one s history
and can be modified over time through different lifestyles and unexpected conditions such as
education, age, or becoming a parent. This means that individuals will not have a habitus identical
to another individual. Lastly, people s everyday activities and tastes exist in relation to the people
around them and that habitus is essential to controlling aspects of individual s social lives (Johnson
2006). Bourdieu s concept of habitus is evident through his articles, Distinction and Cultural
Reproduction and Social Reproduction and can also be demonstrated in Shamus Kahn s book,
Privilege. Bourdieu s article, Distinction exemplifies this idea of habitus and the effect of
institutions on social and cultural patterns. He demonstrates how these institutions instill a social
order into people s thoughts and everyday

The Women s Rights Movement
With the advancement of suffrage to equal pay, over the last century, women s rights have
progressed immensely. Through historic marches and demonstrations across the United States,
women protested for their equal place in politics and social progress. Despite the fear mongering
components used in achieving these rights, women s rights are still thoroughly debated within
society today. Over the last century, incredible and unreachable goals have been fulfilled for
women, such as the right to vote and a sense of equal state in the Free World, and can only improve
in the years to come. July 13, 1848 marked the beginning of a movement that would shape the
beliefs and rights of today s society. It was on this day that the fight for social and political equality
among America s women began to develop. This renowned movement, the Women s Rights
Movement, had many goals in which mighty powerful women would achieve with a mind set to
push them through any barrier or obstacle obstructing their path to equality. Lasting until 1920, the
Women s Rights Movement had a target towards changing how women were treated and looked
upon within their stereotypical societies. Women advocated their rights through organizations and
campaigns, as well as educating others of the unfair justice. With the help of the Women s Rights
Movement and the brave, fearless women who supported this reformation, the fight for women s
liberation was on the move towards success. This historic

In this way, decision trees provide accuracy and explanatory models where the decision tree
model is able to explain the reason of certain decisions using these decision rules. Decision trees
could be used in classification applications that target discrete value outcomes by classifying
unclassified data based on a pre classified dataset, for example, classifying credit card applicants
into three classes of risk, which are low, medium or high. Also, decision trees could be used in
estimation applications that have continuous outcomes by estimating value based on pre classified
datasets, and in this case the tree is called a regression tree, for example, estimating household
income. Moreover, decision trees could be used in prediction applications that have discrete or
continuous outcomes by predicting future value same as classification or estimation, for example,
predicting credit card loan as good or bad. 2.1 Decision Tree Models
Decision tree models are explanatory models, which are English rules so they are easy to

that classify records in different bins or classes called nodes [1]. Based on the model s algorithm,
every node may have two or more children or have no child, which is called in this case leaf node

Internal Medicine Career Research Paper
My choice of internal medicine as a career is based on my experiences through medical school.
Internal medicine allows me to manage patient issues, give treatments, and work with other health

be a part of.
During my first and second years of medical school, I had the opportunity to visit with internists and
sub specialists of medicine, including a pulmonologist and a cardiologist. I was impressed by how
the physicians were able to discuss with patients about what their problems were and how they can
move forward with improving treatment. The physicians also discussed with me about how they
integrate basic sciences with clinical practice, which I was impressed with.
The internal medicine clerkship during my third year of medical school sparked my interest in

INTRODUCTION
RFID refers to any system that can transmit identification numbers over radio. RFID system is
made up of a unique identification number, which is allocated to a specific item, an identity tag
which is attached to the item with a chip capable of storing a unique identification number,
networked RFID readers and data processing systems that are capable of collecting signals from
multiple tags at high speeds and of pre processing this data, and one or more networked databases
that store the product information RFID is a wireless technology, which allows transmission of
information without the physical connection. In its most basic form, an RFID system has two
components: tags and readers. A tag (transponder) consists of a microchip that stores
identification data of the item to which it is attached and an antenna to transmit this data via
radio waves. A reader (interrogator) sends out a radio signal and prompts the tag to broadcast the
data contained on its chip. The reader then converts the radio waves returned from the tag into
digital data and forwards them to a computer system. A reader can scan an area for any tags that
are tuned to the same frequency as the reader. The frequency on which the RFID system operates
designates the intensity of the radio waves used to transmit information and is a key factor in
determining performance levels and applications for the system. Nearly all RFID systems operate

which I reside. Orem s grand nursing theory was developed between 1959 and 2001...[and] is
particularly used in rehabilitation and primary care settings where the patient is encouraged to be

The self care deficit theory works toward Orem s goal of improving the quality of nursing in
general hospitals in her state. The model interrelates concepts in such a way as to create a
different way of looking at a particular phenomenon. The theory is relatively simple, but
generalizable to apply to a wide variety of patents. It can be used by nurses to guide and improve
practice (Dennis, 1997). Testability In testing Orem s theory, other nurses have asked, Is this
theory compatible with standards of nursing care and nursing practice today? Orem s theory has
been applied and tested in many clinical areas of nursing. Nursing Care plans are created from key
parts of the theory and identify patient goals and the nursing interventions to achieve those goals.
Orem s self care deficit theory uses three systems to show how nursing care can be implemented to
meet self care needs of patients: wholly compensatory, partial compensatory, and health education
(McEwen, amp; Wills,2011). Futher more, there is supportive evidence that the theory has been
used to develop nursing research and education. Orem s model of theory is used to develop nursing
curriculum in numerous universities, colleges, and schools of nursing all over the country. It has
also added to nursing knowledge, has created new hypothesis in nursing through research, and
Orem s self care theory has had numerous research studies conducted on her

Civic Vs Honda Research Paper
You have narrowed down your options to just two cars. Now, you have to decide on an answer.
Honda Accord versus Civic: Which is Right for You? Depending on the driver s circumstances in
life, needs and price range, the answer to this question can vary. While Honda Accords and Honda
Civics are grouped together as sedans, there are actually a number of differences between the two
vehicles.
Size Matters
The most obvious difference between an Accord and a Civic is the size. In 1982, Honda
introduced the Accord as their first vehicle in the Untied States. While both vehicles seat five
passengers, the Honda Civic is a compact car. The Accord is a mid size sedan, which gives it more
leg room for passengers. Since the Accord weighs about 500 pounds ... Show more content on

The Honda Accord gets 27 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles on highways. Meanwhile, the
Honda Civic gets 31 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallons for highway driving.
Due to this, the Civic is an ideal vehicle for commuters who have to drive long distances to get to
work every day. The continuously variable transmission and responsive steering make it easier to
navigate through traffic.
For extra room, choose the Accord. This model is ideal for car shoppers who want to have
comfortable seating and a lot of space. The lower gas mileage makes it less suited for commuting,
although it would be extremely comfortable to drive in over long distances. The Accord is also a
better choice for moving items due to the extra space in the interior of the car and the spacious
trunk.
For Power, Choose the Accord
While the Honda Civic is the best for gas mileage and commuting, the Honda Accord has much
more power. Currently, the Accord has 185horsepower, a torque of 181 lb ft and a 2.4 liter
engine. Meanwhile, the Civic has a 1.8 liter engine with 143 horsepower and 129 lb ft of torque.

Contraception (also known as birth control or fertility methods) are methods or devices used to
prevent pregnancy. However, some of these methods are more effective than others. One method of
contraception are birth control pills. Birth control pills are pills that contain hormones. Since it
contains hormones it changes the way the body works, and prevents pregnancy. The hormones that
are used to prevent pregnancy in this method of contraception are, estrogen and progestin. Most of
the control pills that are used have both estrogen and progestin. Estrogen and progestin are man

is entirely false! Over the course of 1 year, about 8 out of 100 typical couples who rely on the

it is crucial that you have a backup plan in case for any reason the birth control pill does not

contraceptive methods like this decreases the chances of a woman getting pregnant more than the
use of only one contraceptive method.
There is another thing to look out for when you are on birth control pills. Birth control pills contain
an expiration date. Although they have expiration dates, this does not signify that they are of no

Essay about Chronic Inflammation and Glycation
Inflammation is a natural body reaction in response to infection or tissue injury, which helps man
to boost immune defenses and overcome stress. Acute inflammatory responses are often triggered
by trauma or invasive microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses, but if well controlled these
immune responses may help prevent further damage and assist in body repair processes. On the
other hand, prolonged cellular stress caused by certain stimuli such as pollution, poor diet, lack of
exercise and other lifestyle factors can cause chronic inflammation, which can lead to premature
aging and chronic disease. Chronic Inflammation and Glycation Chronic cellular stress often leads
to cell dysfunction and many mechanisms for how these processes... Show more content on

It is a natural chemical reaction in which a simple sugar or carbohydrate molecule attaches to
another bio molecule such as a protein, lipid, or nucleic acid without the help of enzymes. Unlike
glycosylation, which is a similar metabolic process that is catalyzed by an enzyme, glycation
usually disrupts normal cellular processes and are usually associated with oxidative damage.
During glycation process, simple sugars like glucose and fructose act as reducing sugars, which
become attached to proteins, nucleic acids or lipids, forming glycation adducts called Schiff base
over a few hours. Healthy cells can eliminate these byproducts, but with chronic inflammation, these
compounds can rearrange to become more stable compounds called Amadori products. Over
months, accumulation of these compounds can lead to a series of chemical reactions that result in
irreversible formation of highly stable substances called advanced glycation end products (AGEs).
AGEs and Mitochondrial Dysfunction AGEs normally form at slow but constant rates in the cells
and may accumulate with time. The accumulation of AGEs occurs when there is an increase in
their production and/or a decrease in their elimination. With aging, low protein turnover, for
example, results in the accumulation of extracellular AGEs on collagen, resulting in wrinkles. In
diabetics, high plasma levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) increase as a result of high
blood glucose levels. Studies show

The Theme Of Social Class And Order
The Underlying Theme of Social Class and Order
In literature, themes are carefully interwoven with other aspects of the story and are slowly
unraveled as the plot advances to reveal to bigger picture. Authors use themes as a method to
connect with their audience on a personal and relatable level. Each individual interprets the theme
in their own manner depending on the past experiences they have had. Similarly, each author brings
a sense of individuality and authenticity to their works, impacting their subject matter and area of
focus, in this case specifically the theme. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells is a science fiction
novel in which the Time Traveller traverses the time dimension to the year 802,701 AD. He then

An author s background is a prime factor in the subject of a book. H.G. Wells humble upbringing
and political beliefs can easily be discerned through the writing. Wells grew up in poverty during
the late 19th century in Kent, Great Britain, causing him to become interested in class conflict. His
socialist views come across in The Time Machine as it is his way to show the consequences of
excessive capitalism, thus the theme of social class and order emerges. Wells uses evolution as a
form to vindicate and reason the extreme schism of classes present in the book. The Time
Traveller, which seems to be an extension of Wells persona, implies the exclusive tendency of
richer people [...] and the widening gulf between them and the rude violence of the poor was a
key factor in the splitting of the human species along class lines, a direct hit on capitalism
(Wells 62). The Elois or the Haves , live aboveground the in comforts of their realm, while the
Morlocks or the Have Nots reside underground, as a result of the [continual adaptation] to their
conditions of their labour (Wells 63). The Time Traveller continue to explore the future realm s
social order, discovering the radical differences between each class. For instance, the Eloi are
focused on beauty and comfort, and are content on living upon the labours of fellowman , while the
Morlocks assumed the role of the worker, relying on instinct and primitive desires (Wells

Theme Of Capitalism In Life In The Iron Mills
Bianca Chirinos Professor Karafilis English 3600 November 3, 2017 Industrial Capitalism in
Life in the Iron Mills In the novella, Life in the Iron Mills, by Rebecca Harding Davis an
extraordinary compelling portrait is depicted of the 1830 s powerless and tired labor class. To
further describe her subject, Davis uses body markers such as: race, gender, and class
identification and limited language through her characters in order to shed light on the
oppressive chains of industrial capitalism. Influenced by the events going on around her during
the American Civil War (1861 1865), Davis focuses and addresses her short literary realism story
towards the middle and upper class entrepreneurs who were polluting the Industrial Revolution.
As new mills and factories were being established to only on produce profits, at the expense of
lower class workers. Who, mostly consisted of, unskilled peasants, immigrants, laborers, and
farmers. Markers of class identification are inflected in Davis literary realism story by two
bodily markers: race/ethnicity and gender. The narrator of the novella describes a notable
difference in between the poor mill workers working for Kirby and John s Mill versus the five
powerful blue collared visitors. For example, Hugh Wolf s father, who is a Welsh immigrant,
works as puddler at the mill making iron. He has no option but to settle for a low social paying
job that in the long run will make the rich richer and the poor poorer. From which, he will only

Bottled Water Is Better Than Tap Water
Plastic is believed to constitute 90 per cent of all rubbish floating in the oceans. Bottled water does
have its place. It s useful for emergencies and essential for people whose health can t tolerate even
filtered water. But it s often no better than tap water, its environmental and social price is high, and
it lets our public guardians off the hook for protecting watersheds, stopping polluters, upgrading
treatment and distribution infrastructure, and strengthening treatment standards.
Bottled water manufacturers marketing campaigns capitalize on isolated instances of contaminated
public drinking water supplies by encouraging the perception that their products are purer and safer
than tap water. But the reality is that tap water is held to

Cause And Effect Essay On How To Deal With Concussions
I am writing to you concerning the new trainings that will take place on how to deal with
concussions. Foremost, I will discuss how the brain is affected by an impact. The brain can be
seriously injured when there is a blow to the skull. A coup injury occurs immediately under a site
where there has been an impact. Contrastingly, a countrecoup injury is an impact that occurs on the
reverse side that brings a person s head to a sudden stop, thus causing the brainto hit the skull.
The parts of the brain that are most at risk for traumatic brain injury are the frontal lobe and the
temporal lobe. This may be attributed to the fact that they are up against rigid bone. The structure
of the skull positioned anterior to the neck allows for greater distances and variances of movement.
The frontal lobe influences personality, planning, initiating, and organizing; all of which that are
needed for high level cognitive functioning. Damage to the frontal lobe may result in changes in an
individual s personality and lower level organizing. Moreover, the temporal lobe is ... Show more

Primarily, in the case of a sport like football or boxing, the athletics department should examine all
protective headgear and make sure they meet regulations to effectively protect the individual s head
and skull. Additionally, coaches and athletes should take brain injuries and concussions very
seriously. Often times, players would prefer to play despite being injured, opposed to receiving the
appropriate medical care that is meant to ensure their health (Le Batard, 2013). In conclusion, the
athletics department, coaches, and players alike should work together to minimize the damaging
effects of concussions on athletes. I hope this information has been useful to you and will improve
how we all understand concussions and more effective ways to deal with

Cost Function in Railways
Introduction
This assignment focuses on the cost functions of the Dutch Railways. In this tutorial will be an
estimated cost function developed for the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS). This cost function
(expressed in Dutch Guilders) is based on the period of Year 1951 till Year 1993. This due to
certain developments that made it more difficult to come to a good approach of a cost function.
Based on the cost function, developed in this tutorial, there will be an answer provided on the
question whether is it efficient to allow competition on the tracks.
First we will define a cost function related to the NS. Then we will describe the important variables.
After defining the cost function, the relevance of the cost function will be explained. ... Show more

The type of production function is as follows Y=f(X), where Y is the maximum produced outputs
and X is the given inputs. For every unit of input there is a price g related to it.
As said earlier if the company has a cost minimizing strategy then the earlier type can be written as
follows:
Min∑в
–’гЂ–XgгЂ—^
The results of the above type gives as the cost function for every level of Y given the input prices g.
So the type for the cost function is C= h(Y,g).
In the case where the firm does not follow a cost minimizing strategy it is preferable for the
company to calculate a cost output relation. In other words it is better to sum the costs and relate
them to the input so that it can easily predict the effect of changes in output levels on total cost.
The reason for not taking into account all the variables is that in the case of a public firm if we
calculate many unnecessary variables then we will have a higher variance of the estimated
parameters of the necessary variables. In this case our results will be biased as if the goal of the
company is to minimize cost and we were missing data e.g. the input prices.
The most important step in producing the cost function is the estimation of its parameters. The
most common form that is used for the calculation of production function is the Cobb Douglas
form. Cobb Douglas is a linear function and has many restrictions as the assumption that all
elasticities of

Informative Speech Over LS Engine
My informative speech over LS engines went very well. I think that overall things went well
especially the transitions between my points. I chose to do a speech on LS engines because my
grandpas pickup had an LS 6.0. Something that went well in my speech was eye contact and
volume of my speech. I felt relieved when I finished because I do not like speaking in front of
people, especially for a class. My LS was probably the best engine that I ve ever owned. My
grandpa purchased the Silverado with about 80k miles from a good friend and neighbor, Lyle
Ernst. The pickup is a regular cab long box, and currently has 168,000 miles on it. It has a newer

I also put on GM Tow Mirrors, which look sweet. The intake manifold gaskets that came with the
LS 6.0 Vortec engine are junk, so I replaced them with the help of Richard Brennan, the head
mechanic at Sinclair. Michael Dekker and I went through the process of installing Light Pods in
the fog light holes in my front bumper. Since the Silverado is a work truck package, it doesn t
have fog lights, power windows, power locks, or comfort amenities like that. It s a work truck,
and I put in Sylvania Silverstar Ultra headlight bulbs, but I wanted more light. Michael and I
went to Advance Auto Parts in Sioux Center and I got LED Light pods. We drilled out the
brackets on the pods and flipped the upside down, affixing them to the body mount behind the
fog light holes. Michael looped power from the fuse block under the hood into the cab, and ran a
return back out. I mounted the pods and then wired the right side to the left side. Michael took
power and ran it to the cab, and we tied the pods into a toggle switch which we hid in a cubby
hole in the dash, so it doesn t look like redneck butchery. If you don t have time to do the project
right, then there is no sense in starting it/working on

  • 2. An Account of the Rosewood Incident After the reconstruction period there was high tension between the whites and blacks in the south. Whites wanted nothing to do with black people and didn t want to have to share anything with them. Whites did everything they could to intimidate blacks to keep them in their place . Black people wanted nothing but to live their lives with their new found freedom, but they saw that no matter what the law said they would never be accepted by the white community. White peopleoften acted out in violence towards blacks whatever chance they got to drive them out. Anything a black person did could result in violence. An example of the violence and hatred shown towards blacks is the events of an incident in Rosewood, Florida in 1923. This incident was documented and the accounts of blacks who were children at the time were taken down. In 1923 in the town of Rosewood, Florida a white woman named Fannie Taylor who had been having an affair was beaten one afternoon while her husband was at work by her lover. Mrs. Taylor had a woman come by to help her with household duties named Sarah Carrier, she saw the man who attacked Mrs. Taylor as did some of her black neighbors. Mrs. Taylor cried for help, when someone came to her aid and asked who it was that did that to her out of fear she said it was a black man. Her accusation that it was a black man caused hunt for this man throughout the town. A man named Jesse Hunter who had recently escaped from the chain gang was a suspect. The ... • 3. Interview With A Graphic Designer I have chosen these questions to ask my Interviewee Neville Brody who is a very famous Graphic Designer who is well respected in his field and internationally known because I feel it is very important to understand the thought process that goes into designing some of the worlds best pieces of work ever created. I would like first hand knowledge coming from Brody himself and not any online articles or journals that I might have read up on. The thought process of design thinking is a very independent thing, you can only learn by repeatedly attempting day after day of new methods of research and how you apply them to your idea. I feel that a lot of people such as fresh students who seek guidance, also young graduates and even sometimes professional graphic designers who have been seen as an expert in their field lack the knowledge of understanding a great design thinking strategy or need aide in this domain. Design thinking is all about the design specific skills that a designer applies during the process of designing, not specifically needing to be a graphic designer as this thought process can be applied to a lot of people in the creative industries such as interior and exterior designers, game designers and even architects. Design thinking has now come to be characterised as fusing the appreciation of other designers and people that can produce beautiful projects and incorporating it into your own work. It s the imaginative concept and the coherence to figure out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Public Broadcasting in the Article “Moving beyond the... In their article Moving beyond the Vast Wasteland , Laurie Ouellette and Justin Lewis critique how public broadcasting functions in the US. Liberal reformers hold to the view that television needs protection from commercialism. The liberal reformer view contains cultural and class hierarchies. They believe that public television is for the white, college educated middle class viewer who has cultural capital (Ouellette Lewis, 96). As a result, funding for public broadcastinghas gone primarily towards high culture and intellectual programs and not sitcoms or other popular forms of television. Ouellette and Lewis disagree with this, saying that these types of high brow programming are not the only ones worthy of public investment. Instead, they argue that popular programs that are being commercially maintained also merit public support and investment (96). Rather than reserving public broadcasting for more educational programming, the authors argue that there is a more progressive solution that can incorporate popular media forms while still veering away from commercialization. Thus far, pubic television has failed to adopt popular media forms. Public television stations such as PBS failed to attract larger and more diverse audiences because they kept their programming intellectual and dull rather than building on popular aspects of television culture. Ouellette and Lewis argue that PBS could have incorporated sitcoms, soaps, and sports into their programming and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Research Paper On Materialistic Society Our Materialistic Society The term materialism is known as a philosophy, and also an issue in our society. By definition, materialism is the theory or attitude that physical well being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life (Khan). This means that our society has a tendency to consider material items or money as more important than our spiritual values. Since youth, children have thought that having more stuff, or better stuff, is happiness. Everyone always wants to buy the latest device, or the newest trends, when they don t really need it. According to DeAngelis, Compared with Americans in 1957, today we own twice as many cars per person, eat out twice as often and enjoy endless other commodities ... That way, if you don t want it anymore, you won t regret buying it (Meeks). You can also skip window shopping the next time you go to the mall or pass by a store; it s better not to tempt yourself. In addition, instead of buying the newest things that come out, you can just wait until you need to replace them. • 6. Lady With An Ermine Essay Lady with an Ermine is a painting by Italian Leonardo da Vinci from around 1489 1490. During this time on rebirth for the arts some artist decided to take a more natural and abstract view on art while others (like da Vinci) still typically followed the realism route. With that being said his Lady with the Ermine is a very interesting portrait painting. This beautiful woman is dressed in fine red and green garb the contours of her clothing is soft and smooth and almost blends into her pale complexion. Her face is deep and three dimensional, his use of shading and shadow makes her seem like she is standing right in front of you. The line quality of the lady and soft and flowing while the ermine is more wild the lines used to create the ermine is jagged and choppy for create its fur and to contrast to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her head looks very cropped, its improved the framing of the outer parts of the artwork. There is a lot of negative space around her, in the background. There are some positive space in this artwork like the ermine is a big part of the artwork, so if it wasn t there then the artwork wouldn t have any meaning since its called Lady with an Ermine. Same goes for the Lady if Cecilia Gallerani wasn t in the picture then it would remove the whole meaning of it being a portrait and again that its called Lady with an Ermine. This artwork is a closed composition because since its a portrait, it shows everything that needs to be shown in a portrait. For this artwork there is no middle ground included. The reason is that I don t think he wanted anything to appear far in the distance, because I think he just wants it to be a simple portrait without anything appearing in the background to make it more complex. And its a portrait so it maybe most likely for no middle ground. This is often where the main action takes place, and in this artwork Leonardo didn t want anything else to catch the viewers eye other than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medusahead Research Paper Medusahead Zaq Brown Coach Bugner 3rd ELA 5 October 2015 Zaq Brown Coach Bugner 3rd ELA 5 October 2015 The plant Medusahead or Taeniatherum caput medusae is an invasive species. The Medusahead plant came to America from Europe. The seeds attached to the fur of the livestockthat was imported by the ships. As the livestock roamed the seeds dispersed throughout the area. Medusahead is still growing and causing damage to the environment. It is crowding out the other native plants, crowding them out and stopping their ability to germinate. It is native to the Mediterranean region. The species was first seen in the United States near Roseburg, Oregon in 1887. It is also mostly located in the western side of the U.S. Medusahead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By itself it is about 1.5 to 2.5 feet tall and very fuzzy or grassy at the top. It has a fuzzy stem and sometimes can look like a cattail. In a group it looks like normal tall grass, but when you get close up, you can see that it is only grassy at the top. It spreads very quickly and has a clumping habitat. This is how you identify Medusahead. There are many ways to remove Medusahead. Technically speaking, chemicals are the best removal method. Herbicides are a good tool for managing Medusahead populations and often improve the success of other control methods such as tillage, burning, or re vegetation. Grazing is only somewhat effective because the animals don t always eat it and mechanical removal doesn t kill the roots. Controlled burn on the other hand, is very effective. It kills down to the roots, killing the entire plant. This proves why chemical removal is the best method. There are many interesting facts about Medusahead. One is that it creates a silica layer around itself preventing bugs from eating it. Medusahead often initially establishes itself on livestock, allowing it to easily disperse into the environment and grow in various locations. This is why it is common along trails and open fields. Because of its fuzzy tops, it is commonly mistaken for the Cattail plant. These are just a few of the many interesting facts about the Medusahead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Bank For International Settlement In an ever changing foreign exchange market countries and corporations were searching for a system that could help reduce the risk involved while handling foreign exchange situations. With the demise of the Bankhaus Herstatt in 1974 a system that could protect against the risk of FX settlements was in dire need. The Bank for International Settlement developed the Continuous Linked Settlement (CLS) in 2002. The group would provide the members associated with them the allowance to use the foreign exchange market as a national payment system. According the textbook, International Finance by Maurice Levi, the definition of the Continuous Linked Settlement is A procedure for banks to settle accounts between themselves that credits and debit accounts simultaneously. It Is designed to reduce the risk in the financial system. (Levi, p. 546) JPMorgan Chase and Co defines the process of the Continuous Linked Settlement as a process which provides for payment vs payment in the settlement of foreign exchange transactions. ( JP Morgan Treasury Services p. 1) From these two definitions, it can be concluded that the CLS was indeed developed to help reduce the risk as payments from both parties would be made simultaneously to ensure that the residing parties would receive their payment. Before this system was in place it was very difficult to ensure that if one party made their required payment that the other side would one even make the payment or to use the correct foreign exchange ... • 9. Hierarchy Of Needs Theory Maslow Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory (Humanistic Theory of Self Actualisation) originally comprised five levels of needs, usually represented as a pyramid, which in itself is a clever concept because like a pyramid each layer needs the preceding layer to be firmly in place before the next layer can be achieved which is probably the ideology of Maslow s theory. Maslow differs from Freud s theory in that he takes a pragmatic approach, emphasising the importance of the positive to promote a positive state of mind in the here and now , rather than the in depth psychoanalysis emphasising what is wrong with me approach of Freud. Maslow accepted that all humans have certain personality traits, such as boring, reserved, silly, aggressive; however, he believed most people have the potential to elevate themselves to a higher level of awareness and... • 10. Louisville Flood Victims By Margaret Bourke-White Description: Margaret Bourke White. Louisville Flood Victims. 1937. Photograph. Analysis: Margaret Bourke White utilizes the actual horizontal lines of the billboard, as well as the implied lines of the people s heads. The repetition of the people along with the faces on the billboard, forcefully move the attention horizontally to the right of the photograph. This, in turn, makes the viewer anticipate what is coming next. Although we know that the people are in a state of motion, there is a sense of stillness as if the moment will never end. At first glance, the balance appears to be somewhat symmetrical, but looking further, one notices the small cluster of children in the bottom left corner, casting the balance as asymmetrical. It also appears as if there is a downward slope going from the furthermost right, to the furthermost left of the image. The colors seem varied and dark, contrasting the coats of the individuals with the stark white bags, and the intrusive bright colors of the billboard, this creates a contrast in the mood of the apparent glee of the billboard, with the traumatic expressions of the individuals. Although black and white, the image uses a wide range of light and dark, going from the bright white of the bags and billboard, to the deep darks of the coats and few of the glum faces. In between these two extremes, there are varying shades of light and dark in the billboard and surrounding scene. Finally, the emphasis is placed on the people, the victims of the Louisville flood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Green Mile is a 3 hour film of two halves: firstly, painting a vivid portrait of life on death row, and the trivialities that brighten up the lives of the people who live and die there. The second half of the movie is given to exploring Coffey himself: his past, his crime, and his powers. He is initially misunderstood by those around him, is convicted of a crime he did not commit, he greatly enriches the lives of those around him, and is eventually executed for refusing to proclaim his own innocence. Chroma key, models, CGI and stunts all come under Special effects, which are illusions to the eye seen on screen. But today I ll just be discussing the sub elements of Chroma key and models. Also, how they add to the overall entertainment value and their impact on the audience. [Hugo 21 in background fades in] Chroma keyis created by green or blue screens where images are inserted into the area where the green or blue screens are. Models are made so that real size sets, that are expensive, don t have to be created. These scenes build suspense and are exciting as the audience is in awe at how this set could have been created. In Hugo this can be seen in Hugo s dream where the train crashes through and out of the train station. The train crash scene isn t actually real size but is well made so that it looks realistic when on screen. This is because the creators of the train crash model went to great detail, such as how the glass shatters and explodes on the model, to make this more visually effective. It also seems more realistic because scenes before show real people at the station and this mix of reality and the model makes it seem more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Analysis Of Concrete Angel By Martina Mcbride Most audiences view music as a form of entertainment only, so society tends to overlook the messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners about unnoticed issues. Music can spread awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina McBride uses her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina McBriderecorded a song titled Concrete Angel to spread awareness about child abuse. Her song addresses the general population, consisting of bystanders, because most people are aware of tragedies such as child abuse, but they ignore the problem. Through emotional appeals, characterization, imagery, and foreshadowing, Concrete Angel illustrates the story of a young girl s abuse in order to call the bystanders to awareness of the societal problem. Throughout the song, the story creates emotional appeal with the use of bystanders. The bystander mentioned in verse two is, The teacher wonders, but she doesn t ask/ It s hard to see the pain behind the mask (lines 5 6). The teacher s reaction is a common experience for many adults because most adults assume the child is not abused if he or she appears okay. Another bystander mentioned is, Somebody cries in the middle of the night/ The neighbors hear, but they turn out the light (15 16). Since the bystander ignores her plea for help, the audience develops sympathy for her because the girl is helpless. Sympathy is the main objective of these lyrics, and if the audience has compassion for the young girl, they might take action instead of being bystanders. Through emotional appeals, the underlying message of these lyrics attempts to persuade the listeners not to be complacent as bystanders. The artist uses music to evoke people s emotion because most people listen and relate to music. The article Martina McBride Finds Additional Voices to Express Herself Ahead of Show in North Myrtle Beach mentions, Raising awareness, she [Martina McBride] said, makes you feel something as an individual to make a difference, and we all appreciate that (Palisin). When bystanders take action, they can prevent an abusive situation and raise more awareness. Concrete Angel characterizes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These stories are used as an indirect way for Mama to teach her familythe values and lessons that she has learned throughout her life. With her family members, Mama s presence demands a universal respect. Everyone in the room listens to what Mama has to say, even if it s not what they want to hear. Mama is the absolute leader among the women her family and her opinions are held in high regard. It is called dark because it gives off no light and matter because it has to have some mass to be able to explain the effects that they produce. Furthermore, he proposed that the sun is the center of the universe. He said that if one assumed that the sun is the center of the universe, it would be simpler to describe the positions of the other planets and their movements, too. I will be constructing my own hydroelectric generator in order to show it is possible to create electricity using large volumes of water, enough power to light a light bulb. Background Making Electricity and Hydroelectric Generators Electricity is the flow of electrons through a metal wire, or through a conductor. Electrons are tiny particles found in atoms, and is also one of the building blocks of all matter. Electrons carry tiny negative charges, when they move through a conductor they produce a little invisible magnetic force. The strength depends on how in motion the electrons are. Pushing the electrons a little closer and tighter can cause a stronger field. When electrons produce a magnet force, you can use a magnet to make the electrons mover which is how an hydroelectric generator works. A hydroelectric generator is a machine that uses mechanical energy to generate electricity, the hydroelectricity comes from a large volumes of falling water to create the mechanical energy. God told the Israelites that the reason they had to work six days and rest on the seventh day, is because He created everything and rested on the seventh day. It is thus not realistic to think we have to work for six long periods (millions of years) and rest for another long period. • 29. Relationship of Societal Institutions and the Concept of... Pierre Bourdieu is a French sociologist who presents a focus on the relationship of societal institutions and the concept of habitus. Habitus is simply the socially structured norms that influence individuals in order to direct the ideas and behaviors that make them who they are. With this, habitus does not allow individuals to possess complete freedom of their thoughts and perceptions. The individual s expressions, judgments, thoughts, perceptions, and behaviors are all reflective of societal structures such as, class, gender, politics, and education which are then reproduced by their actions. These common practices and perceptions are formed by one s history and can be modified over time through different lifestyles and unexpected conditions such as education, age, or becoming a parent. This means that individuals will not have a habitus identical to another individual. Lastly, people s everyday activities and tastes exist in relation to the people around them and that habitus is essential to controlling aspects of individual s social lives (Johnson 2006). Bourdieu s concept of habitus is evident through his articles, Distinction and Cultural Reproduction and Social Reproduction and can also be demonstrated in Shamus Kahn s book, Privilege. Bourdieu s article, Distinction exemplifies this idea of habitus and the effect of institutions on social and cultural patterns. In its most basic form, an RFID system has two components: tags and readers. A tag (transponder) consists of a microchip that stores identification data of the item to which it is attached and an antenna to transmit this data via radio waves. A reader (interrogator) sends out a radio signal and prompts the tag to broadcast the data contained on its chip. The reader then converts the radio waves returned from the tag into digital data and forwards them to a computer system. A reader can scan an area for any tags that are tuned to the same frequency as the reader. For example, there was this one incident where one guest wanted his old room rate, but was soon informed that he had to make prior arrangements in order to receive it again. Unfortunately, since he did not make prior arrangements this time the guest became very angry and started yelling at the front desk staff. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The continuously variable transmission and responsive steering make it easier to navigate through traffic. For extra room, choose the Accord. This model is ideal for car shoppers who want to have comfortable seating and a lot of space. The lower gas mileage makes it less suited for commuting, although it would be extremely comfortable to drive in over long distances. The Accord is also a better choice for moving items due to the extra space in the interior of the car and the spacious trunk. For Power, Choose the Accord While the Honda Civic is the best for gas mileage and commuting, the Honda Accord has much more power. Currently, the Accord has 185horsepower, a torque of 181 lb ft and a 2.4 liter engine. Meanwhile, the Civic has a 1.8 liter engine with 143 horsepower and 129 lb ft of torque. • 42. Essay about Chronic Inflammation and Glycation Inflammation is a natural body reaction in response to infection or tissue injury, which helps man to boost immune defenses and overcome stress. Acute inflammatory responses are often triggered by trauma or invasive microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses, but if well controlled these immune responses may help prevent further damage and assist in body repair processes. On the other hand, prolonged cellular stress caused by certain stimuli such as pollution, poor diet, lack of exercise and other lifestyle factors can cause chronic inflammation, which can lead to premature aging and chronic disease. Chronic Inflammation and Glycation Chronic cellular stress often leads to cell dysfunction and many mechanisms for how these processes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a natural chemical reaction in which a simple sugar or carbohydrate molecule attaches to another bio molecule such as a protein, lipid, or nucleic acid without the help of enzymes. Unlike glycosylation, which is a similar metabolic process that is catalyzed by an enzyme, glycation usually disrupts normal cellular processes and are usually associated with oxidative damage. During glycation process, simple sugars like glucose and fructose act as reducing sugars, which become attached to proteins, nucleic acids or lipids, forming glycation adducts called Schiff base over a few hours. Healthy cells can eliminate these byproducts, but with chronic inflammation, these compounds can rearrange to become more stable compounds called Amadori products. Over months, accumulation of these compounds can lead to a series of chemical reactions that result in irreversible formation of highly stable substances called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). AGEs and Mitochondrial Dysfunction AGEs normally form at slow but constant rates in the cells and may accumulate with time. The accumulation of AGEs occurs when there is an increase in their production and/or a decrease in their elimination. With aging, low protein turnover, for example, results in the accumulation of extracellular AGEs on collagen, resulting in wrinkles. In diabetics, high plasma levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) increase as a result of high blood glucose levels. Studies show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His socialist views come across in The Time Machine as it is his way to show the consequences of excessive capitalism, thus the theme of social class and order emerges. Wells uses evolution as a form to vindicate and reason the extreme schism of classes present in the book. The Time Traveller, which seems to be an extension of Wells persona, implies the exclusive tendency of richer people [...] and the widening gulf between them and the rude violence of the poor was a key factor in the splitting of the human species along class lines, a direct hit on capitalism (Wells 62). Theme Of Capitalism In Life In The Iron Mills Bianca Chirinos Professor Karafilis English 3600 November 3, 2017 Industrial Capitalism in Life in the Iron Mills In the novella, Life in the Iron Mills, by Rebecca Harding Davis an extraordinary compelling portrait is depicted of the 1830 s powerless and tired labor class. To further describe her subject, Davis uses body markers such as: race, gender, and class identification and limited language through her characters in order to shed light on the oppressive chains of industrial capitalism. Influenced by the events going on around her during the American Civil War (1861 1865), Davis focuses and addresses her short literary realism story towards the middle and upper class entrepreneurs who were polluting the Industrial Revolution. As new mills and factories were being established to only on produce profits, at the expense of lower class workers. Who, mostly consisted of, unskilled peasants, immigrants, laborers, and farmers. Markers of class identification are inflected in Davis literary realism story by two bodily markers: race/ethnicity and gender. The narrator of the novella describes a notable difference in between the poor mill workers working for Kirby and John s Mill versus the five powerful blue collared visitors. • 49. Cause And Effect Essay On How To Deal With Concussions I am writing to you concerning the new trainings that will take place on how to deal with concussions. Foremost, I will discuss how the brain is affected by an impact. The brain can be seriously injured when there is a blow to the skull. A coup injury occurs immediately under a site where there has been an impact. Contrastingly, a countrecoup injury is an impact that occurs on the reverse side that brings a person s head to a sudden stop, thus causing the brainto hit the skull. The parts of the brain that are most at risk for traumatic brain injury are the frontal lobe and the temporal lobe. This may be attributed to the fact that they are up against rigid bone. The structure of the skull positioned anterior to the neck allows for greater distances and variances of movement. The frontal lobe influences personality, planning, initiating, and organizing; all of which that are needed for high level cognitive functioning. Damage to the frontal lobe may result in changes in an individual s personality and lower level organizing. Moreover, the temporal lobe is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This due to certain developments that made it more difficult to come to a good approach of a cost function. Based on the cost function, developed in this tutorial, there will be an answer provided on the question whether is it efficient to allow competition on the tracks. First we will define a cost function related to the NS. Then we will describe the important variables. After defining the cost function, the relevance of the cost function will be explained. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The type of production function is as follows Y=f(X), where Y is the maximum produced outputs and X is the given inputs. For every unit of input there is a price g related to it. As said earlier if the company has a cost minimizing strategy then the earlier type can be written as follows: Min∑⠖’гЂ–XgгЂ—^ The results of the above type gives as the cost function for every level of Y given the input prices g. So the type for the cost function is C= h(Y,g). In the case where the firm does not follow a cost minimizing strategy it is preferable for the company to calculate a cost output relation. In other words it is better to sum the costs and relate them to the input so that it can easily predict the effect of changes in output levels on total cost. The reason for not taking into account all the variables is that in the case of a public firm if we calculate many unnecessary variables then we will have a higher variance of the estimated parameters of the necessary variables. In this case our results will be biased as if the goal of the company is to minimize cost and we were missing data e.g. the input prices. The most important step in producing the cost function is the estimation of its parameters. The most common form that is used for the calculation of production function is the Cobb Douglas form. Cobb Douglas is a linear function and has many restrictions as the assumption that all elasticities of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
