What Is The Purpose Of Universal Education Dbq
In 1630, John Winthrop dreamt that America was a City on the Hill , predestined for preeminence. In
1776, the American Colonies proclaimed independence with the affirmation that all men are equal,
free, and blessed with the sacred rights to life, liberty, and happiness. These uniquely American ideals
ideals characterized the young democracy in contrast to the oppressive monarchies of Europe.
European citizens saw the correlation between America s greatness and its democratic principles. The
liberties that America furnished to all men, regardless of status, gave citizens pride in their nation and
drew envy from constituents of tyrannical monarchies. The notions of equality and freedom, however,
did not extend to all of America s population; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, in 1846, Horace Mann, a Whig politician and education reformist asserted that a superior
and universal law had dictated every human being, regardless of race or gender, deserved access to
education and that it was the obligation of government to provide this (Doc 3). Horace Mann,
regarded as the most devoted education reformist and a respected Whig, could or did not pass any
national legislation to spread universal education. Additionally, during the Antebellum era, there were
2 whig presidents, Harrison and Taylor, and Whigs dominated both congressional houses during their
presidencies; so education reform should have passed easily. In reality, Mann s narrative of universal
education for the purposes of creating a culture of virtuous principles was not fulfilled during the
Antebellum era. Apparently, many reformists believed more in promoting a virtuous image of the U.S.
than in pursuing laws to cement reforms. In 1841 Ralph Waldo Emerson lectured a Library association
of Mechanic s apprentices that What is a man born for but to be a Reformer... a renouncer of lies; a
restorer of truth and good, imitating that great Nature... (Doc 2). Emerson, a 2nd Great Awakening
lecturer emphasizes the goodness that results from reforms, a minor distinction from democratic
ideals. Emerson does not mention equality or freedom as suitable motivations for reformists, rather, he
emphasized reforming because it makes the reformer appear virtuous. As a prominent speaker,
Emerson convinces that the primary concern of the apprentices in his audience is their self image, not
spreading suffrage, liberty or equality

Coloration In The Wizard Of Oz
In L. Frank Baum s The Wizard of Oz, the coloration throughout the Land of Oz is quite important.
Perhaps Baum used varying color themes as a metaphor for ethnicity; if so, this demonstrates that the
Wicked Witches correlate to historical figures such as Francisco Pizarro, whom historian Jared
Diamond describes (in his renowned novel, Guns, Germs, and Steel ) as having used fear as a weapon,
in conjunction with the unseen and misunderstood force of disease (this could be a metaphor for
magic).
The Land of Oz is divided into five regions. The northern region of the Land of Oz is known as
Gillikin Country , wherein the color of choice is purple. To the South is Quadling Country, in which
the focus is red. Residing in the East, Munchkins

Global Climate Change Triggered By Global Warming
The article, Global Climate Change Triggered by Global Warming by Stuart D. Jordan, seeks to
provide evidence that global climate change caused by global warming is currently in affect and
requires immediate attention and action. Jordan claims that the Earth s climate has been undergoing
significant and alarming changes for the past thirty years. He provided evidence based on
observations, theoretical models, and calculations made by other researchers.
The article addressed the increase in temperature over the years and claimed 2005 to be the warmest
year in the last century. There is much fear, as temperature continues to increase, that possible ice
reduction and melted ice sheets and glaciers in the Artic, Antarctica, and Greenland may occur and
cause a rise in sea levels. If the Antarctic ice sheet melts, the sea level is calculated to rise two hundred
feet, while if the ice sheet in Greenland melts, the sea level is calculated to rise seven meters,
approximately twenty feet. The rise in sea level is affecting coastal areas. Many coastal areas are
expected to sooner or later be flooded or below sea level. This can have terrible consequences for high
populated coastal areas. Another problem that global warming may have on the world s oceans is the
possible change in the global oceanic conveyor belt . The conveyor belt controls the ocean s currents
which has impact on regional climate change. However, scientists have yet to agree on whether or not
reduction of flow has

Taking a Look at a Coma
A coma also known as a persistent vegetative state is a very deep state of unconsciousness which will
last more than six hours, and in which the person is still very much alive, with normal breathing
cycles, but can t respond to any stimuli, or his/her surrounding environment. This can usually be tested
by medics putting the individual through (normally) painful and/or problematic stimulants. The patient
is also unable to move, see, hear or speak.
The coma takes away higher brain functions, thinking capacities and awareness of surroundings, but
the usual circulation, breathing and cognitive sleeping patterns are still kept. The coma can take place
as a result of extreme injuries (head injuries are most common), or as a product of several underlying
diseases or infections; a large variety of causes.
The coma comes from the Greek word koma meaning state of sleep. Coma in the past was very much
of an unsolved enigma. People couldn t see the reasons of people falling into a death like sleep, but
still breathing and carrying out normal sleep patterns. They didn t know of any treatment to cure this
mysterious disease, so they could only leave the people in their comas, deciding that time was the only
cure, but also allowing the people succumb to the usual infections which are picked up from the
patient s immobility while in the coma itself.
Over time, comas have been treated far better with the research done through time. But, despite the
rather weird situation, films

Second Industrial Revolution Research Paper
The second industrial revolution refers to the time period of 1870s and 1880 s, which profoundly
altered the European life. The major innovations of the second industrial revolution include the
widespread use of steel and electricity in the industries, the perfection of mass production technology,
the rise of technical education in colleges and universities and the growth of a new professional class
in the society (More). It was a period of centralized management and control, which integrated the
means of production, distribution and marketing of goods. The second industrial revolution resulted in
the establishment of urban factories that drove the population from the rural villages and towns to the
urban cities. The new inventions revolutionized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also opened the door to new jobs for women. The First Industrial Revolution led to major political
changes and new liberties in Europe. The two political parties, the Whigs and the Tories dominated
English politics during this period. Industrial revolution emphasized individualism and natural
economic law, supporting the ideas of a planned economy and social cooperation. England paralleled
an incomparable degree of political liberty with economic and social reforms, avoiding the extremes
of the industrial revolution (More). However, political upheaval, wars, fluctuations in imports and
exports resulted in unemployment and widespread distress. Technological improvements mobilized
the factors of production, namely, land, labor and capital. During the First Industrial Revolution, there
was a mutual dependence between industry and commerce; however, the inadequate communication
system could not bring buyers and sellers together (Simpson and Jones). By the Second Industrial
Revolution, the situation changed dramatically with technological advancements in

Creatine s Performance Enhancing Athletic Performance

Muscle Candy If you ever wandered through a pharmacy, you may have seen muscular bodybuilders
checking out creatine (Cr) supplements. Many athletes consume this supplement to build strength and
enhance athletic performance, especially towards physical efforts requiring energy bursts. Since
English Olympians initially brought attention to creatine s performance enhancing benefits at the 1992
Barcelona Games, creatine s popularity has skyrocketed. Its effectiveness is supported by numerous
scientific studies, including those suggesting benefits for people with physical disabilities. The
supplementation of Cr is proven in studies to enhance athletic performance, although more studies
have shown how Cr will boost the strength of the physically and mentally disabled with limited side
effects. Creatine, a nitrogenous carboxylic acid, is produced internally in vertebrates or consumed
from exogenous sources such as fish or red meat. Cr is synthesized in a two step process from three
amino acids: arginine, glycine and methionine. Cr synthesis begins in the kidney and pancreas from
arginine and glycine. According to Qasim and Mahmood, (2015), almost 90 95% of the total Cr in the
human body is stored in the skeletal muscles which take up Cr against a concentration gradient with
the aid of the sodium dependent Cr transporter 1. Cr is stored mainly in the skeleton system, but also
in muscle fibers, brain neurological system,

Beethoven Romanticism
Thanks to Beethoven, music was taken highly serious among the people and the literatures of arts.
During the nineteenth century, the first two decades were devoted to Romanticism. Literature wasn t
the only thing that poured out during this time period, so did the music. People such as Jean Jacques
Rousseau, who was an Enlightenment philosopher in the mid eighteenth century, provided the
Romantics with ideas on how to express themselves as opposed to what society expected from one.
These ideas led people to live an upbeat joyful life rather than a sluggish boring one. However,
Romanticism came to be during a time of war, and because of how freely expressive the Romantics
were they became know as rebels who went against the rules and regulations. So rebellious that the
Romantic composers were experimenting with chords that had been off limits.
This time period also brought some spooky harmonies orchestral sounds, along with recognizable
operas such as Robert the Devil, The Vampire, The Magic Bullet, and Frankenstein. Just like the
Romantic period expanded the orchestral, it also picked up on the ... Show more content on

They didn t want to be without the program, but at the same time they did not want the music to make
sense on its own term. In other words, the Romantics embraced the pure beauty of instrumental music
but they also liked program music because it mixes in nonmusical elements. Although the Romantics
liked being different, most of their compositions were either miniature or grandiose compositions. The
difference is that miniature compositions were a few minutes longs, but were designed to convey a
particularly pointed emotion, and be meaningful. In contrast, grandiose compositions were meant for
large symphonies and longer time duration that were interweaved with poetry, philosophical or
religious ideas, story lines, and dramatic

The Cellar Coming Of Age Analysis
Abduction n. the action or an instance of forcibly taking someone away against their will. In the book,
The Cellar by Natasha Preston, is about a teenager who decided to go have a fun, memorable night
with friends and the ended up getting abducted and locked up for eight months. Coming of age is
shown throughout this book. Coming of age is shown because Summer deals with being abused, the
death of others, and being thrown back into society after a long period of time.
The first coming of age situation is being abused. He pulled her hair again, making her scream and
thrash around as she tried getting out of his grip. Without hesitation, he plunged the knife into her
stomach, (Preston, 6). Clover does what he wants and hitting these girls is just a part of it. He doesn t
just hit them, he stabbed, kicked, and even raped them. In his opinion, they deserved it, but they
cannot stand the abuse. Clover got so enraged that he beat some of the girls until they couldn t walk
and had to be on bed rest for weeks. Being abused makes them all stronger in the end and now they
know what to do and what to look out for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tobago Essay
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has decided to construct a new school at the beginning of the
year 2016. This is due as the island is ranked sixty fourth (64th) in the Global Education Index (United
Nations Development Programme 2013) and there is a drive to increase the island s global ranked by
the Education Ministry of Trinidad and Tobago. As a result, they have authorized a formal report to
determine potential sites that the school can be built on in which official bodies will investigate
further. To accomplish this goal, applications of Geographic Information Systems were utilized to
assess land suitability in Trinidad with several criteria provided by the Government along with
relevant data sources. Several areas throughout the western coast of Trinidad with potential/ideal sites
were discovered.
Introduction
According to the World Bank, the twin island s population is 1.354 million in 2014 and is increasing
by 0.3% per year. As a result of slow population increase there are several issues which would arise
such as food security and environmental degradation. The Education sector of a country is important
and plays a vital role in the development the general population. Investing in the island s education
system is essential for reducing inequality and poverty. Thus, the government of Trinidad and Tobago
would like to expand the sector as education is a fundamental part in the development of its people.

NUTRITION FOR TRAINING
An athlete must eat inappropriate diet to match their current exercise training program. The goal of an
optimal training diet is to (Burke and Read, 1989):
1. provide caloric and nutrient requirements
2. promote recovery from training sessions and physi¬ological adaptations
3. achieve and maintain optimal body composition and competition weight
4. try variations of precompetition and competition fuel and fluid intake to determine the body s
responses
Since athletes require significantly more calories then their seditary counterparts, it is useful to
estimate energy requirements for the athlete. Energy requirements can be estimated though

drug absorption. A nasal drug delivery system must undergo the evaluation of its irritation to the nasal
mucosa. In this study, histological study of the nasal mucosa was performed to claim the potential
toxic influences or the expected drug/excipient irritations.
The nasal mucosa treated with PBS (pH 6.8, ve control) exhibited intact ciliated respiratory epithelium

Francis Bacon Research Paper
Many people have heard of the mathematicians Issac Newton, John Locke, or William Petty. All of
these mathematicians changed history with their groundbreaking ideas and methods. However, all of
these mathematicians were influenced by the mathematician, Francis Bacon. Bacon was influential in
many aspects during the English Renaissance. He was an author, philosopher, scientist,
mathematician, and served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England. Francis Bacon had a
successful life, not only in the progress he made in science and math, but also other achievements he
made. Francis Bacon was born in London, England on January 22, 1561. He was born into a high
class family with his father, Nicolas Bacon, being the Lord Keeper of the Seal. His mother, Anne
Bacon, was also the daughter of Edwards VI s tutor. At first Bacon was homeschooled where he was
taught the works of famous philosophers and scientists. Due to his family s wealth, at the age of
twelve, Bacon was able to attend Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1573. There, he met Queen Elizabeth,
who was astounded by his intelligence. Then, in 1576, Bacon attended law school at the Honorable
Society of Gray s Inn. From there, he studied at the English Embassy in Paris where he learned
valuable political advice. Bacon s goal was to become as well versed in politics as possible, which
brought him all over Europe. Eventually, Bacon was studying languages, civil law, and statecraft
while working for the English Ambassador.

conducting regular backtests on the risk models being used. In the second article, we will present an
alternative to measuring VaR using a top down or macro approach as a complementary tool to

It is always better to be approximately right than exactly wrong. Determining the accuracy of VaR
models How can we assess the accuracy and performance of a VaR model? To answer this question,
we first need to define what we mean by accuracy. By accuracy, we could mean: How well does the
model measure a particular percentile of or the entire profit and loss distribution? How well does the
model predict the size and frequency of losses? Many standard backtests of VaR models compare the
actual portfolio losses for a given horizon vs. the estimated VaR numbers. In its simplest form, the
backtesting procedure consists of calculating the number or percentage of times that the actual
portfolio returns fall outside the VaR estimate, and comparing that number to the confidence level
used. For example, if the confidence level were 95%, we would expect portfolio returns to exceed the
VaR numbers on about 5% of the days. Backtesting can be as much an art as a science. It is important
to incorporate rigorous statistical tests with other visual and qualitative ones. Simple Backtesting: VaR

Powers Of The United States Constitution

American Government 7
17 November 2014
Enumerated Powers The United States Constitution consists of twenty seven expressed or enumerated
powers. These powers were carefully constructed by the Framers of the Constitution in hopes that the
government would remain fair in its law making ways. The Legislative Branch is comprised of the
Senate and House of Representatives, commonly referred to as Congress. It known of as the law
making body of the United States government with the help of the president or the Executive Branch.
Congress must exercise or follow the powers stated in the Constitution. Three enumerated powers that
have made and are still making significant impacts on the United States are the Necessary and Proper
Clause, Commerce Clause, and the power to declare war. The Necessary and Proper Clause is stated in
Article I, Section 8, and Clause 18 of the Constitution. This Clause is commonly referred to as the
Elastic Clause as well as several other names: the Sweeping Clause, the Coefficient Clause, and the
Basket Clause, and. These names are all appropriate due to the fact that they all represent the meaning
of the clause itself. It is accredited as the Elastic Clause because it stretches the power of Congress;
thus, giving the Legislative Branch the ability to increase their power (Namtvedt). Although there are
a plethora of enumerated powers such as this one, this clause enables Congress to stretch the
expressed powers

Discovery of HeLa Cells
It is safe to say that without the discovery of HeLa cells in 1951, today s world would be vastly
different. HeLa cells have left a greater mark on the world than ever dreamed possible. These
immortal cells were vital to the development of the polio vaccine, cloning, uncovering microscopic
secrets of viruses and cancer, in vitro fertilization and gene mapping. They have been everywhere:
labs, animals, people, even the moon. They assisted with the development of the atom bomb and were

The Importance Of Print Media Advertising
Today, the increase in the popularity of social networking has changed advertisements on the internet.
We are seeing new forms of advertising taking place in the form of apps for phones which are
connected to online websites. With advertising seemingly expanding every day businesses wonder, is
print media advertising still effective?
The facts seem to point toward print media advertising still being very effective depending on the
company s goal. According to Ian Linton from Chron.com and Manohar (2013), Print media
advertising is a form of advertising that uses physically printed media, such as magazines and
newspapers, to reach consumers, business customers and prospects.
With its many forms it is no wonder why print media is still used by many companies, although it has
seen a significant decrease. In fact, nowadays it would seem that newspapers and other forms of print
media would not be the way to advertise for your company, but a key idea is missing. According to an
article found on contentmanagementsoftwares.net, there are over 1,600 different national newspapers
in circulation every day plus all of the local newspapers. This is a downside because there is a huge
velocity of advertisements, but it is still a cheap and effective way to reach the consumer.
Rebecca Harnden, CEO of Humboldt Light Dep, LLC, offers this tip to get new small businesses in
front of pre qualified leads cheaper than regular print runs.
Contact your local newspaper and ask if they have any upcoming special event features. Newspapers
run special inserts during the weeks of special events. The cost for printing in one of these special
inserts or handouts is usually much less expensive than running an ad in the regular newspaper, since
less people will see it. However, the people who do see it will be interested in your product or service.
She offers this example, if you are a wedding planner, run an ad in a seasonal industry specific
newspaper insert or in a newspaper produced program distributed at a bridal fair. You know the people
who see your ad will be brides or know a bride to be, making your campaign much more effective for
much less money! According to Forbes.com, print media advertising is not dead and it

Joshua was a man that knew God and dedicated himself to serving Him. Joshua single handedly led
the children of Israel to conquer the Promised Land, and he certainly displayed the power of God
through his life.
Most importantly, however, is the truth that Israel was a theocracy, in that it followed the One True
God. God gave His instruction to Joshua, and Joshua passed on this instruction to the people. They, in
turn, were not receiving their commands and instructions from a man, such as the heathen nations of
the day. Instead, they were led by a God that had chosen them and cared for them ever since they left
the land of Egypt. The reason that they were able to prosper and succeed is that God was their official
leader.
The book of Judges, however, describes this same nation s government very differently. After settling
into the Promised Land, Israel s form of government seemed to become extremely disorganized.
Despite the fact that God had given them clear laws and guidelines for social order, these people
seemed to be very dysfunctional in their ability to follow a clear pattern like they had done in the book

This was largely due to their reputation of having a variety of leaders. None of the judges led the

Public Opinion On The Obamacare Act
Ajibola Yinka PO 326 Politics and public policy Adriana Buliga Stoian 20th November, 2015.
PUBLIC OPINION What is/are Public Opinion? Public opinion is an important aspect of democracy.
ThisS is the view(s) commonly held among the general public. These are sets of attitude that shapes a
group which either helps improve the quality or efficiency of an issue or agenda. The article puts forth
its thesis as the influence of systematic issue attention cycle which strongly influences public attitude
and behavior concerning most domestic problems. The public engage in election and choose their
representative/leader, therefore; they have the right to voice out their opinion on certain issues. Public

The first stage is the Pre Problem age. This occurs when some highly undesirable social condition
exists but has not captured much public attention even though some groups might be aware of it.
Traits arising from this stage are that the interest groups declare a problem. The second stage is the
alarmed discovery and euphoric enthusiasm. Here, the public suddenly becomes both aware of and
alarmed about the evils of a particular problem. The discovery is accompanied by the society s ability
to solve the problem or do something effective within a short span of time. Traits arising from this
issue is that public experience negative consequences of unhealthy environment e.g. Flooding. The
third stage is Realizing the cost of significant progress. It consists of gradually spreading realization
that the cost of solving the problem is very high indeed. Engaging in this will not only take a lot of
money but also requires major sacrifices by large groups in the population. A major trait at this stage is
that it has high cost clause and involves many sacrifices. The fourth stage is the gradual decline of
intense public interest. The third stage becomes gradually transformed into the fourth stage. There is a
gradual decline in the intensity of public interest interest in the environmental problem. As more

Siegfried Sassoon s The Rear Guard Analysis
Independent study: Siegfried Sassoon s The Rear Guard Groping along the tunnel, step by step, He

boxes, bottles, shapes too vague to know, A mirror smashed, the mattress from a bed; And he,

This suggests that he s starting to smell gas from an attack. All the senses are being mentioned because
he s trying to get up to fresh air and all he has to help him is his senses whereas a lot of the time he
would have other soldiers to assist him. This could make him feel quite isolated or bare if you will as
it s just a trench filling with gas, against him using impaired vision, touch and smell to try and escape.
The fact that Sassoon tells us that the soldier is fifty feet below emphasizes really how far away the
soldier is from above ground where the fight is taking place. Again, this shows the reader exactly how
isolated the soldier really is. In fact, he s so isolated that the fight is actually described as The rosy
gloom of battle overhead. Now while this may not be a particularly positive description, it doesn t
make the battle sound overwhelmingly bad. The reader knows that actually, it s bound to be a horrible,
bloody battle. But to the soldier, he would probably give anything to be up there fighting rather than
down in the darkness trying to escape death. This causes the reader to sympathize with the soldier as
his best option at that time would be to be up there, risking his life in a battle. Tripping, he grabbed the
wall is a very interesting way to start a line as again, Sassoon has used a verb at the beginning. Just
like at the start of the poem when Groping was used, it has the same effect of showing the reader that

Harper Lee, The Sentry By Wilfred Owen, And Good Guys Dead...
Countless authors, all throughout time, can be seen to write about their passions, their experiences or
their opinions on a certain topic. The question has been asked: do any of these authors early life
experiences or the time setting when they grew up in have any impact on why the writer developed the
work? A range of authors and texts are being covered in this report and the content will vary from
World War One experiences to more recent times of racial segregation in America. This report has
been formed to answer questions and form relationships between authors and the reason(s) or any
influence(s) as to why the following authors have developed their work: Harper Lee, Wilfred Owens,
Ernest Hemingway. I decided to investigate the following texts: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee,
The Sentry by Wilfred Owen, To Good Guys Dead by Ernest Hemingway. If the aim is to find out
whether early life experiences of these authors or the time setting when they grew up in promoted or
influenced the development of their work, three questions must be asked for an accurate conclusion to
be drawn: How heavily did the Harper Lee s early life experiences influence her writing? Where there
any government influences that impacted on the authors writing? Why exactly did the author write the
text?

Pros And Cons Of Tipping
Tipping, also called gratuity, is ingrained in American culture. The original meaning is said To Insure
Promptitude. The history of tipping began from England, but now it is essentially unnecessary in
England. After the Civil War, newly rich Americans visited Europe and knew genteel rules, tips.
However, as tipping became widespread in the U.S., people found tipping to be antithetical to
democracy and American ideals of equality. A New York Times editor grumbled, once tipping got to
hold in the United States, it spread rapidly like evil insects and weeds (). In the past, there also was an
action for abolishing to tip. The article of A Brief History of Tipping says, In 1904, the Anti Tipping
Society of America sprang up in Georgia, and its 100,000 members signed pledges not to tip anyone
for a year. In 1909, Washington became the first of six states to pass an anti tipping law. However, it
could not continue for a long term. The new laws rarely were enforced, and, by 1926, every anti
tipping law had been repealed. () So, the culture of tipping is still existing in many states in the U.S.
On the other hand, even if workers earn tips from customers, there are 43 states that have less than
established minimum wages for tipped employees by the federal government, and 19 of 43 states have
only $2.13 as the minimum wages.() The amount of tips is not stable every time. Some days may be
higher and other days may be lower. Does tipping really help them? Conventional wisdom claims that
tipping is an important part of the America. But I take a different view: I believe tipping should be
abolished because it is a repugnant custom. Now, tipping usually follows these rules: 10% if you were
unsatisfied, 15% if it was ok, 20% for excellent service, and 25% for outstanding service. However,
even if customers are not satisfied the service of servers, they tend to pay tips. According to Michael
Lynn, a professor at Cornell University s School of Hotel Administration, There are five basic motives
for tipping. Some people tip to show off. Some people tip to help the server, to supplement their
income and make them happy. Some people tip to get future service. And then other people tip to
avoid disapproval: You

Good Readers And Good Writers By Vladimir Nabokov
A quick summary of both articles we will be discussing today on The Morning Show. The article,

When reading a book there s a special order that we like to follow. We see it manually from left to
right, but that s not the same case when looking at a picture we tend to open up our eyes and look at it
at every angle. Once you ve reread a book you ll start seeing it as a painting instead of a regular book.
Once you ve cracked open the case, now the reader can enter the game. And that s when the magic
begins and people start praising the book and actually appreciate it. The attitude you bring into a book
is fairly important when reading it. That is a very clever way of seeing what the meaning of reading is.
However, when we come back, we will see how Mr. Holt defines reading based on his own
experiences and work he has done. (commercial break) We are back! This morning we have been

The Pros And Cons Of Thatcherism
Thatcherism is defined as the conviction politics, economic, social policy and political style of the
British Conservative politician and Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. An exponent or supporter of
Thatcherism is called a Thatcherite. Margaret Thatcher was born as Margaret Hilda Roberts on
October, 13 1925 in Grantham, England. Her family owned a grocery store and they lived in a flat
above the store. She was introduced to politics from an early age by her father who was a member of

The recessions brought about severe unemployment which has left lasting negative impacts on Britain.
Many industries went bankrupt and workers lost their jobs. Industrial production fell sharply. The
working class suffered the most during the recession. There were nearly 3.3 million people
unemployed in 1984 as compared to 1.5 million when Thatcher first came to power in 1979. This
divided the society into two distinct groups the rich and the poor. No other developed state, with the
exception of New Zealand suffered such a brutal widening of inequality. The Gini coefficient is a
measure of inequality in a society. A score of one would be a completely unequal society; zero would
be completely equal. Britain s Gini core escalated from 0.253 to 0.339 during the time of Thatcherism.
The effects were still felt years later when Thatcher resigned in 1990 and it was found that 28% of
children were still living below the poverty line. Pensioners were the worst hit with the number living
below the poverty line increasing drastically from 13% to 40%. It was also characteristic of a
developed nation to have a high life expectancy going down after the recessions. Unemployment is
very stressful and damaged, not only the morale of the people, but also affected their health. Medical
care was unaffordable resulting in early deaths. After Thatcher resigned, statistics revealed that life
expectancy increased again. People were happier, less stressed and, therefore, healthier. This merely
emphasises the impact that Thatcherism had on the British people. Crime increased during the
Thatcher regime as a direct consequence of unemployment and poverty. With the recession also came
the dissolving of many British families. Divorce rates increased due to financial strain. Thatcher had
no pity for the poor. She went on to say there is no such thing as society . She believed that each
person should learn to survive on their

but, also judging. In this book, Baruch Kotler is a Jew from Russia, he is a minority and gets judged
for being different. This relates to the theme, individual vs society because Kotler s beliefs are

because it can be extremely overwhelming and the only way to stay on top of the game is to stay on

only must a person be willing to spend the time and effort practicing, but that person must also be
prepared for all of the obstacles that can come along the way such as; stress, character flaws, and even

Reptiles are a unique animal for various reasons, but I find one of these unique qualities to be
especially fascinating. That is the respiratory system and how the reptile s spontaneous ventilation rate
is directly related to temperature and partial pressure of oxygen, whereas the mammal s respiration is
strictly related and driven by carbon dioxide. In veterinary medicine this is something that comes up

1806 was the first all out economic warfare that had ever emerged, thanks to Napoleon and his
Continental System blockading trade into continental Europe. Despite the conflicts of War, the
economy expanded to accommodate many new job positions. Uniforms for soldiers had to be made in
surplus; women and children were hired for cheap labour being paid far less than a man doing the
same job. Two of the largest industries were dominated by cheap labour tailoring and shoemaking.
Once this practise was established, it was impossible to eliminate after the war was over and the
hundreds of thousands of men that returned had difficulty finding work furthering the unemployment
problem that had been plaguing the nation already.
Aside from the Napoleonic Wars, many harvest crises had a detrimental effects and social
ramifications. Through a series of years of dearth, bread prices skyrocketed almost immediately and
the number of people seeking poor relief increased exponentially.
The rapid economic change brought along many unsatisfied citizens. Riots and demonstrations were
held to try and ratify the problems that arose around the country. Unfortunately, most of the
demonstrations turned violent anyways, the riots seemed to get more attention from the government
than anticipated.

Assessment Of Perineal Pain On Women Experience During The...
Assessment of Perineal Pain
Adequate and effective management of perineal pain begins with a comprehensive assessment
(Marcus et al, 2009; Breivikl et al, 2008; Dalton et al, 1999). However, Andrews et al, (2008) UK
based study concluded that there is no pain scale to date that has been developed to appropriately and
accurately assess the perineal pain that women experience during the postnatal period. This begins to
offer explanation as why up to 92% of new mothers endure perineal pain in the early postpartum
period (Macarthur and Macarthur, 2004).To further support these findings Way (2012) discovered that
women expect perineal pain following vaginal birth but under estimate the severity of the pain.
Women will experience high levels of pain before requesting analgesia as they attempt to normalise
the pain as a consequence of vaginal delivery (Swain and Dahlen, 2013). Macarthur and Macarthur
(2004) conclude that the current management of perineal pain is inadequate as the use of analgesia is
not standardised.
Both Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) and Andrews et al, (2008) used a prospective cohort research
design to obtain their data. The sample population that was needed to ensure that the results produced
were statistically significant was, therefore, larger (Rees, 2011). Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) used
a sample size of four hundred and forty seven women from Toronto, Canada, and Andrews et al,

The Overall Growth And Development Of C.p
Introduction C.P. is a 14 year old male that this nursing student saw on January 19, 2016 who was
admitted to Renown Health s pediatric floor to determine the cause of his cyclical vomiting. C.P. has a
secondary diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder. In this paper, I will discuss the overall growth and
development of C.P. based on four developmental theorists and other children in his age range.
Overview of Growth and Development Growth generally refers to an increase in the physical size of a
whole or any of its parts or an increase in the number and size of cell. Development is generally
considered to be a continuous, orderly series of conditions leading to activities, new motives for
activities, and patterns of behavior (James, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
51). C.P. is fourteen years old, he is categorized in the adolescence stage and age grouping.
Parameters of growth provide information on how the child should normally grow. Data in the
determination of normal includes weight, height, and head circumference. It is suggested that these
should be measured at regular intervals throughout childhood to ensure the child is on track for normal
growth (James, et al, 2013, p. 51).
Factors influencing growth and development include genetics, environment, culture, nutrition, health
status, and family. Each factor contains information as to how the child s growth and development can
be affected (James, et al, 2013, pp. 52 54).
Developmental Theorists and Theories Freud s stages of psychosexual development. Freud believed
that early childhood experiences provide unconscious motivation for actions later in life (Freud,
1960). The basis of Freud s psychosexual theory is certain parts of the body assume psychological
significance as the focus of sexual energy throughout the development of the child (James, et al, 2013,
p. 57). Freud s work may help to explain normal behavior that parents may confuse with abnormal
behavior, and it also may provide a good foundation for sex education (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). The
stages of this theory include oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). Oral

Consensus of the People in Nazi Germany
The vital element in maintaining Hitler s regime remains one of the most controversial arguments
amongst historians. There are many considerable factors. Historians such as Jaques Delarue and Hans
Rothfels argue that terror was the main component to sustain control, whilst David Crew and Dick
Geary believe it was propaganda that made it possible. However, there are other factors that are
supported, for instance, contextual condition was backed by Ralph Flenly and Hans Rothfels and the
people s consent, as A.J.P. Taylor proposes, was the imperative constituent. Most historians have the
same problem evaluating as they have different definitions for people s consent. Silent opposition is
the term used for the people who passively opposed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also assassinated a Gestapo officer at Cologne in 1944. This behaviour demonstrated that
although young people were forced to support Hitler, not all were convinced by the Propaganda. In
spite of this, the Edelweiss pirates were only a small minority group. Another one of Flenly s main
point is that the effects of the First World War had left a vacuum in the German politics, one which
required a strong leading figure. The emotional appeal of the Nazis was very strong, the Nazi ideology
fitted with the traditional values like the role of men and women and family values. Only a small
group of people would deny these ideas. The Nazis offered exactly what the people wanted and they
extended conventional ideals and gave the people a leader which they longed for. Their long tradition
of obedience to authority and the retarded development of political and civil freedom was a sign that
was also spotted by William Shirer as he claimed Acceptance of autocracy, of blind obedience to the
petty tyrants who ruled as princes, became ingrained in the German mind. [6] hence the immense
support shown in the election results, in November election 1933, they gained 92.9% of the overall

  • 2. What Is The Purpose Of Universal Education Dbq In 1630, John Winthrop dreamt that America was a City on the Hill , predestined for preeminence. In 1776, the American Colonies proclaimed independence with the affirmation that all men are equal, free, and blessed with the sacred rights to life, liberty, and happiness. These uniquely American ideals ideals characterized the young democracy in contrast to the oppressive monarchies of Europe. European citizens saw the correlation between America s greatness and its democratic principles. The liberties that America furnished to all men, regardless of status, gave citizens pride in their nation and drew envy from constituents of tyrannical monarchies. The notions of equality and freedom, however, did not extend to all of America s population; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, in 1846, Horace Mann, a Whig politician and education reformist asserted that a superior and universal law had dictated every human being, regardless of race or gender, deserved access to education and that it was the obligation of government to provide this (Doc 3). Horace Mann, regarded as the most devoted education reformist and a respected Whig, could or did not pass any national legislation to spread universal education. Additionally, during the Antebellum era, there were 2 whig presidents, Harrison and Taylor, and Whigs dominated both congressional houses during their presidencies; so education reform should have passed easily. In reality, Mann s narrative of universal education for the purposes of creating a culture of virtuous principles was not fulfilled during the Antebellum era. Apparently, many reformists believed more in promoting a virtuous image of the U.S. than in pursuing laws to cement reforms. In 1841 Ralph Waldo Emerson lectured a Library association of Mechanic s apprentices that What is a man born for but to be a Reformer... a renouncer of lies; a restorer of truth and good, imitating that great Nature... (Doc 2). Emerson, a 2nd Great Awakening lecturer emphasizes the goodness that results from reforms, a minor distinction from democratic ideals. Emerson does not mention equality or freedom as suitable motivations for reformists, rather, he emphasized reforming because it makes the reformer appear virtuous. As a prominent speaker, Emerson convinces that the primary concern of the apprentices in his audience is their self image, not spreading suffrage, liberty or equality ... • 3. Coloration In The Wizard Of Oz In L. Frank Baum s The Wizard of Oz, the coloration throughout the Land of Oz is quite important. Perhaps Baum used varying color themes as a metaphor for ethnicity; if so, this demonstrates that the Wicked Witches correlate to historical figures such as Francisco Pizarro, whom historian Jared Diamond describes (in his renowned novel, Guns, Germs, and Steel ) as having used fear as a weapon, in conjunction with the unseen and misunderstood force of disease (this could be a metaphor for magic). The Land of Oz is divided into five regions. The northern region of the Land of Oz is known as Gillikin Country , wherein the color of choice is purple. To the South is Quadling Country, in which the focus is red. Residing in the East, Munchkins ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Global Climate Change Triggered By Global Warming The article, Global Climate Change Triggered by Global Warming by Stuart D. Jordan, seeks to provide evidence that global climate change caused by global warming is currently in affect and requires immediate attention and action. Jordan claims that the Earth s climate has been undergoing significant and alarming changes for the past thirty years. He provided evidence based on observations, theoretical models, and calculations made by other researchers. The article addressed the increase in temperature over the years and claimed 2005 to be the warmest year in the last century. There is much fear, as temperature continues to increase, that possible ice reduction and melted ice sheets and glaciers in the Artic, Antarctica, and Greenland may occur and cause a rise in sea levels. If the Antarctic ice sheet melts, the sea level is calculated to rise two hundred feet, while if the ice sheet in Greenland melts, the sea level is calculated to rise seven meters, approximately twenty feet. The rise in sea level is affecting coastal areas. Many coastal areas are expected to sooner or later be flooded or below sea level. This can have terrible consequences for high populated coastal areas. Another problem that global warming may have on the world s oceans is the possible change in the global oceanic conveyor belt . The conveyor belt controls the ocean s currents which has impact on regional climate change. However, scientists have yet to agree on whether or not reduction of flow has ... • 5. Taking a Look at a Coma A coma also known as a persistent vegetative state is a very deep state of unconsciousness which will last more than six hours, and in which the person is still very much alive, with normal breathing cycles, but can t respond to any stimuli, or his/her surrounding environment. February 24, 2016 Muscle Candy If you ever wandered through a pharmacy, you may have seen muscular bodybuilders checking out creatine (Cr) supplements. Many athletes consume this supplement to build strength and enhance athletic performance, especially towards physical efforts requiring energy bursts. Since English Olympians initially brought attention to creatine s performance enhancing benefits at the 1992 Barcelona Games, creatine s popularity has skyrocketed. Its effectiveness is supported by numerous scientific studies, including those suggesting benefits for people with physical disabilities. The supplementation of Cr is proven in studies to enhance athletic performance, although more studies have shown how Cr will boost the strength of the physically and mentally disabled with limited side effects. Creatine, a nitrogenous carboxylic acid, is produced internally in vertebrates or consumed from exogenous sources such as fish or red meat. Cr is synthesized in a two step process from three amino acids: arginine, glycine and methionine. Cr synthesis begins in the kidney and pancreas from arginine and glycine. According to Qasim and Mahmood, (2015), almost 90 95% of the total Cr in the human body is stored in the skeletal muscles which take up Cr against a concentration gradient with the aid of the sodium dependent Cr transporter 1. During the nineteenth century, the first two decades were devoted to Romanticism. Literature wasn t the only thing that poured out during this time period, so did the music. These ideas led people to live an upbeat joyful life rather than a sluggish boring one. However, Romanticism came to be during a time of war, and because of how freely expressive the Romantics were they became know as rebels who went against the rules and regulations. So rebellious that the Romantic composers were experimenting with chords that had been off limits. Determining the accuracy of VaR models How can we assess the accuracy and performance of a VaR model? To answer this question, we first need to define what we mean by accuracy. By accuracy, we could mean: How well does the model measure a particular percentile of or the entire profit and loss distribution? How well does the model predict the size and frequency of losses? Many standard backtests of VaR models compare the actual portfolio losses for a given horizon vs. the estimated VaR numbers. In its simplest form, the backtesting procedure consists of calculating the number or percentage of times that the actual portfolio returns fall outside the VaR estimate, and comparing that number to the confidence level used. For example, if the confidence level were 95%, we would expect portfolio returns to exceed the VaR numbers on about 5% of the days. Backtesting can be as much an art as a science. It is important to incorporate rigorous statistical tests with other visual and qualitative ones. Simple Backtesting: VaR ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Joshua single handedly led the children of Israel to conquer the Promised Land, and he certainly displayed the power of God through his life. They, in turn, were not receiving their commands and instructions from a man, such as the heathen nations of the day. Instead, they were led by a God that had chosen them and cared for them ever since they left the land of Egypt. The reason that they were able to prosper and succeed is that God was their official leader. The book of Judges, however, describes this same nation s government very differently. This could make him feel quite isolated or bare if you will as it s just a trench filling with gas, against him using impaired vision, touch and smell to try and escape. The fact that Sassoon tells us that the soldier is fifty feet below emphasizes really how far away the soldier is from above ground where the fight is taking place. Again, this shows the reader exactly how isolated the soldier really is. In fact, he s so isolated that the fight is actually described as The rosy gloom of battle overhead. Now while this may not be a particularly positive description, it doesn t make the battle sound overwhelmingly bad. The reader knows that actually, it s bound to be a horrible, bloody battle. But to the soldier, he would probably give anything to be up there fighting rather than down in the darkness trying to escape death. This causes the reader to sympathize with the soldier as his best option at that time would be to be up there, risking his life in a battle. • 28. Pros And Cons Of Tipping Tipping, also called gratuity, is ingrained in American culture. The original meaning is said To Insure Promptitude. The history of tipping began from England, but now it is essentially unnecessary in England. After the Civil War, newly rich Americans visited Europe and knew genteel rules, tips. However, as tipping became widespread in the U.S., people found tipping to be antithetical to democracy and American ideals of equality. A New York Times editor grumbled, once tipping got to hold in the United States, it spread rapidly like evil insects and weeds (). In the past, there also was an action for abolishing to tip. The article of A Brief History of Tipping says, In 1904, the Anti Tipping Society of America sprang up in Georgia, and its 100,000 members signed pledges not to tip anyone for a year. In 1909, Washington became the first of six states to pass an anti tipping law. However, it could not continue for a long term. The new laws rarely were enforced, and, by 1926, every anti tipping law had been repealed. () So, the culture of tipping is still existing in many states in the U.S. On the other hand, even if workers earn tips from customers, there are 43 states that have less than established minimum wages for tipped employees by the federal government, and 19 of 43 states have only $2.13 as the minimum wages.() The amount of tips is not stable every time. Some days may be higher and other days may be lower. Does tipping really help them? Conventional wisdom claims that tipping is an important part of the America. But I take a different view: I believe tipping should be abolished because it is a repugnant custom. Now, tipping usually follows these rules: 10% if you were unsatisfied, 15% if it was ok, 20% for excellent service, and 25% for outstanding service. However, even if customers are not satisfied the service of servers, they tend to pay tips. According to Michael Lynn, a professor at Cornell University s School of Hotel Administration, There are five basic motives for tipping. Some people tip to show off. Some people tip to help the server, to supplement their income and make them happy. Some people tip to get future service. And then other people tip to avoid disapproval: You ... When reading a book there s a special order that we like to follow. We see it manually from left to right, but that s not the same case when looking at a picture we tend to open up our eyes and look at it at every angle. Once you ve reread a book you ll start seeing it as a painting instead of a regular book. Once you ve cracked open the case, now the reader can enter the game. And that s when the magic begins and people start praising the book and actually appreciate it. The attitude you bring into a book is fairly important when reading it. That is a very clever way of seeing what the meaning of reading is. However, when we come back, we will see how Mr. Holt defines reading based on his own experiences and work he has done. The Pros And Cons Of Thatcherism Thatcherism is defined as the conviction politics, economic, social policy and political style of the British Conservative politician and Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. An exponent or supporter of Thatcherism is called a Thatcherite. Margaret Thatcher was born as Margaret Hilda Roberts on October, 13 1925 in Grantham, England. Her family owned a grocery store and they lived in a flat above the store. She was introduced to politics from an early age by her father who was a member of the town s council. The recessions brought about severe unemployment which has left lasting negative impacts on Britain. Many industries went bankrupt and workers lost their jobs. Industrial production fell sharply. The working class suffered the most during the recession. There were nearly 3.3 million people unemployed in 1984 as compared to 1.5 million when Thatcher first came to power in 1979. This divided the society into two distinct groups the rich and the poor. No other developed state, with the exception of New Zealand suffered such a brutal widening of inequality. The Gini coefficient is a measure of inequality in a society. A score of one would be a completely unequal society; zero would be completely equal. Britain s Gini core escalated from 0.253 to 0.339 during the time of Thatcherism. The effects were still felt years later when Thatcher resigned in 1990 and it was found that 28% of children were still living below the poverty line. Pensioners were the worst hit with the number living below the poverty line increasing drastically from 13% to 40%. It was also characteristic of a developed nation to have a high life expectancy going down after the recessions. Unemployment is very stressful and damaged, not only the morale of the people, but also affected their health. Medical care was unaffordable resulting in early deaths. After Thatcher resigned, statistics revealed that life expectancy increased again. People were happier, less stressed and, therefore, healthier. This merely emphasises the impact that Thatcherism had on the British people. Crime increased during the Thatcher regime as a direct consequence of unemployment and poverty. With the recession also came the dissolving of many British families. Divorce rates increased due to financial strain. Thatcher had no pity for the poor. There are many different results that occur from being a student athlete such as the character traits, and the passion that you pick up along the way. Two of the largest industries were dominated by cheap labour tailoring and shoemaking. • 37. Assessment Of Perineal Pain On Women Experience During The... Assessment of Perineal Pain Adequate and effective management of perineal pain begins with a comprehensive assessment (Marcus et al, 2009; Breivikl et al, 2008; Dalton et al, 1999). However, Andrews et al, (2008) UK based study concluded that there is no pain scale to date that has been developed to appropriately and accurately assess the perineal pain that women experience during the postnatal period. This begins to offer explanation as why up to 92% of new mothers endure perineal pain in the early postpartum period (Macarthur and Macarthur, 2004).To further support these findings Way (2012) discovered that women expect perineal pain following vaginal birth but under estimate the severity of the pain. Women will experience high levels of pain before requesting analgesia as they attempt to normalise the pain as a consequence of vaginal delivery (Swain and Dahlen, 2013). Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) conclude that the current management of perineal pain is inadequate as the use of analgesia is not standardised. Both Macarthur and Macarthur (2004) and Andrews et al, (2008) used a prospective cohort research design to obtain their data. The sample population that was needed to ensure that the results produced were statistically significant was, therefore, larger (Rees, 2011). Overview of Growth and Development Growth generally refers to an increase in the physical size of a whole or any of its parts or an increase in the number and size of cell. Development is generally considered to be a continuous, orderly series of conditions leading to activities, new motives for activities, and patterns of behavior (James, ... Parameters of growth provide information on how the child should normally grow. Data in the determination of normal includes weight, height, and head circumference. It is suggested that these should be measured at regular intervals throughout childhood to ensure the child is on track for normal growth (James, et al, 2013, p. 51). Factors influencing growth and development include genetics, environment, culture, nutrition, health status, and family. Each factor contains information as to how the child s growth and development can be affected (James, et al, 2013, pp. 52 54). Developmental Theorists and Theories Freud s stages of psychosexual development. There are many considerable factors. Historians such as Jaques Delarue and Hans Rothfels argue that terror was the main component to sustain control, whilst David Crew and Dick Geary believe it was propaganda that made it possible. However, there are other factors that are supported, for instance, contextual condition was backed by Ralph Flenly and Hans Rothfels and the people s consent, as A.J.P. This behaviour demonstrated that although young people were forced to support Hitler, not all were convinced by the Propaganda. In spite of this, the Edelweiss pirates were only a small minority group. Another one of Flenly s main point is that the effects of the First World War had left a vacuum in the German politics, one which required a strong leading figure. The emotional appeal of the Nazis was very strong, the Nazi ideology fitted with the traditional values like the role of men and women and family values. Only a small group of people would deny these ideas. The Nazis offered exactly what the people wanted and they extended conventional ideals and gave the people a leader which they longed for. Their long tradition of obedience to authority and the retarded development of political and civil freedom was a sign that was also spotted by William Shirer as he claimed Acceptance of autocracy, of blind obedience to the petty tyrants who ruled as princes, became ingrained in the German mind.
