Types Of Conflict Spiral And Avoidance Spiral
Since conflict is made up of individuals with their own perceptions it only makes
sense that there lie different paths that conflict can take. Some of the different paths
that are destructive in nature are the escalatory spiral (Hocker Wilmot 29) and
avoidance spiral (Hocker Wilmot 32). These spirals are made up of not only speech
but physical actions that mean to damage another or seek to lessen the relationship
between themselves. It is important to recognize what type of conflict spiralis
happening so you may view the situation clearly and see what the next step is to
possibly fixthis problem before it escalates past the point of repair. Recognizing that
you are in an escalatory spiral is simple because it is categorized as a state where
both parties involved take action to get even (qtd. in Hocker Wilmot 31) with the
other person(s) involved. An escalatory spiral is a destructive means people take
when there are [misunderstandings], discord and destruction (Wilmot 1987) (Hocker
Wilmot 30). The interaction between those in conflict during an escalatory spiral
becomes less about understanding and fixing the conflict and more about how to
emotionally harm the other person involved. In an escalatory spiral, there is only
one path for those that are engaging in it and that is upward and onward (Hocker
Wilmot 30). For those that find themselves in an escalatory spiral they may find it
difficult to get out of it because the original issue becomes buried
Compare And Contrast Invictus And Temple Grandin
There are many actors and actresses that played as great characters in very famous
movies. Whether if it s an action, romance, horror or even comedy movie, there are
so many actors and actresses to choose from. However, the main characters who
played in the movies Temple Grandin and Invictus are the focus of now. Claire
Danes who played Temple Grandin, an autistic woman and Morgan freeman who
played Nelson Mandela a president were both great actress/actorthat each portray the
characters with great acting skills of emotions, feelings and being able to connect an
important idea to the audience. Although, they were both able to show those skills,
they were both also different in some other criteria. Claire Danes who played as

The Machine Stops Essay
At what point will society place a dependence upon technological advancements
rather than the curiosity and interactions of mankind? With the constant acceleration
of improvements within technology and any piece of information readily available
many authors, artists, and individuals question the natural world as each generation
more elaborately explores the innovative approaches towards science and technology.
E.M. Forster s short story, The Machine Stops, is based upon a fear of the
technological revolution, and it introduces the audience to a utopian society facing
multiple forms of isolation as a result of his society reaching complete dependence
upon the technology of the Machine. The society s reliance upon the Machine creates
a divide between those who display an adoration and worship towards the Machine
versus citizens who prevail and fight for their individual freedom. E.M. Forster
illustrates the role he foresees technology to play in the end of human civilization
through an exaggerated vision of the effects that technology leaves on our lives,
which helps the audience to better understand our present day society properly. The
conflicting views that Vashti and Kuno express concerning society s dependence and
devotion towards the Machine emphasizes the change in human communication due
to the advancement and dependence upon technology. Vashti and Kuno s expedition
to the earth s surface accentuates the capability for technology to strip humans away
from their
Examples Of Willful Blindness
Quite often, it is very difficult to understand the need for justice unless we ourselves
are inconvenienced. Therefore, knowingly or unknowingly we ignore injustice
committed on others believing such injustice bears no harm on us. However, this line
of thinking can be morally and practically problematic. In what follows, I will
consider three examples in which I illustrate why ignorance of injustice can be
immoral while at same time bringing unfavorable outcomes. The moral and
consequential considerations render willfully ignoring injustice a mistake that harms
everyone involved in the system.
Willful blindness is ignorance of injustice which is happening in our society. Willful
blindness can be seen in our community and school very often. People ignore many
harmful actions even though they know those actions hurt many people. Today
willful blindness is very aspirating in U.S schools and administrators ignore: cheating
in exams, bulling, and giving preferential treatment for athletes are manly seen as
willful blindness.
The first example I will consider is willful ignorance of cheating in school. It is very
common that students who witness other students cheating choose not to report the
incident, on the account that their action doesn t harm them personally. In addition,
students might not want to be a snitch by exposing other students. While one might
not necessarily be directly affected by the cheating of another student, indirectly this
might lead the honor system

Reform In The Austrian Empire, Russia, And Great
Britain...
There were many efforts for reform in the Austrian Empire, Russia, and Great Britain
between 1850 and 1870. In the Austrian Empire, Ausgleich created the Dual
Monarchy of Austria Hungary. Each state was granted its own constitution,
legislature and governmental machinery for domestic affairs. A single monarch was
also established to hold the two states together. The Ausgleich was only successful in
allowing the German speaking Austrians and Hungarians to dominate minority
groups such as the Slavic people. In imperial Russia, Alexander issued an
emancipation edict that freed peasants allowing them to own property, freely marry,
and bring suits to the law. This wasn t very successful because the peasants were
ultimately expected to repay the
How Does Lime Connect Impact My Community
I have always been energized by the opportunity to make a positive and tangible
impact on my community. During my time at Georgetown, such excitement came
from involvement in multiple activities ranging from student government to
fellowships, and from on campus advocacy to community service. Since graduating
from Georgetown, I have continued my commitment to service through extensive
involvement as a SERVE Leader at Fannie Mae. Still, I miss the opportunity to
organize events and engage members of my community to the extent I did when I
was in school. What s more, I have found it difficult to continue involvement in the
disability space since graduation, as my current employer has limited avenues for
employees with disabilities to network.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am energized by lively discussion, value diversity of opinion, and am one who
will always work hard to ensure we accomplish our goal. I have had the opportunity
to serve as a board member for several organizations at Georgetown, have led
fundraising efforts that have totaled more than $150,000, have planned large scale
events and conferences for Oxfam America and Georgetown Residential Life, and
have overseen budgetary appropriations for several clubs as President of the
Georgetown University InterHall Council. During my two years as a Resident
Assistant, I prided myself on planning activities that appealed to residents from a
variety of backgrounds, and I worked tirelessly to build communities where
everyone felt included and supported. More recently, I became one of 40 SERVE
Leaders at Fannie Mae working together to plan and organize company wide
volunteer opportunities, brainstorm and direct fundraising for the Help the Homeless
campaign, and partner with local non profit organizations to create strong relations in
and with the communities we serve. I thrive in dynamic, consensus driven
environments that leverage my desire to solve problems and reshape perspectives,
and my passion is epitomized in empowering and working closely with others. I hope
to have the opportunity to bring this same dedication
Effects Of Overpopulation
With the fast paced and growing world that we live in today, we are overpopulating,
over consuming and a significant amount of our resources are being used up.
Malthusian focuses on bringing importance to the issue of overpopulation and how it
strains many aspects of our lives such as the environment, and economy. Therefore,
Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulationis a prime example of the dangers
overpopulation can have on our planet if there are no measures taken to ensure that
there will be a sustainable future. For instance, we are going through a crisis in many
parts of the world where overpopulation is an issue and is resulting in poverty.
Additionally, many countries are suffering economically due to the very limited...

This is also present in Kenya since AIDS and HIV are a critical issue in the country
and it doesn t help when families are having a lot of children that they cannot provide
for. Northern India is an example needs help controlling their population since the
negative aspects are going to continue to increase overtime if it continues to grow at
the current rates. China and the one child policy is an example of how population
control helped keep the country more sustainable. It s crucial to keep in mind that the
more people that there are, the more resources are needed and is very difficult to
create a sustainable society when the members are having many children that they
cannot provide for.
Furthermore, there are inconsistent population to food growth in many countries and
this can be very damaging to the economy. For instance, there has been a rapid
growing population in India but agricultural production has slowed down. Which
means that there is a scramble for increasingly scarce resources. This does not only
affect the economy exports but it also negatively impacts the citizen of the country
since it can get more expensive for large families to provide food for their children.
This is very similar to Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulation since he
stated that there would be a gap between population and food sources since
population would significantly outweigh food sources. In addition to that, many

Freddie Mercury Research Paper
Most people know the name Freddie Mercury , who was best known as the lead
singer of Queen . In 70 s and 80 s rock, he was known as one of the greatest
performers and still leaves a name in popular music today. His life spanned from
1945 1991, which ended short from AIDS complications. Within his musical career,
Freddie was a Jack of all Trades being a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist (piano and
guitar), performer and a record producer. His 4 octave vocal range is from a bass low
to a soprano high (from F2 to F6), also he wrote many of Queens greatest hits. His
live performances were known from around the world, with one music critic

The Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis
T.S Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a literary work that entails the
life of an indecisive, intellectual man of great solitude. The beginning of the poem
sets a disillusioned and nostalgic tone of the poem. It vividly recounts some of
Prufrock s dealings with various women, who took an interest in Renaissance artist
Michelangelo. It further elaborates on the yellow fog that covers the windows to
his social life of the outside world. Prufrock appears to be a middle aged, modern
man plagued by feelings of isolation and frustration. T.S Eliot utilizes the life of
Prufrock to symbolize his ideas of the modern man. Eliot s use of farcical language
generates an atmosphere of questioning as to why Prufrock could not overcome his...

Prufrock subconsciously opts to indulge in his contemporary and psychological life
of love, rather than his realities of his hell, his life.
Furthermore, based on the title of the poem, T.S Eliot likely wanted to imply a
farcical aspect of the poem. For instance, Alfred Prufrock was a man of many
opportunities, however, most of the poem centers around his lack thereof.
Additionally, both time and space are subjective to Prufrock. Timings of each
memory are hard to pinpoint due to the order in which the memories are presented,
causing an organized misperception of tenses and periods. Thus, memories of his
past and present seem to become infused with one another, vice separate
happenings. In detail, whenever memories are described within the poem, Prufrock
is paralyzed in a seemingly confused state. His thoughts are described in a present
tense, but judging from another context of the poem, all his dealings with women
were in the past. Prufrock was simply reflecting on his life. He is aware that he is
growing old, and that he is running out of time to find a true love. Prufrock is
desperate for assistance with his shortfalls but has none. So, he accepts his fate, his

Imagination Leads to Subservience in Pan s Labyrinth and...
Guillermo Del Toro, the director of Pan s Labyrinth, and Neil Jordan, the director
of The Company of Wolves, use the idea of imagination to escape reality. The
movies depict the heroines, Ofelia and Rosaleen using imagination to escape the real
world s despotism. In Pan s Labyrinth and The Company of Wolves, Ofelia and
Rosaleen utilize ire to invent a whimsical worldthat mirrors the oppression of their
physical world and momentarily provides them with control. But, ultimately their
minds become a source of enslavement for them.
In Pan s Labyrinth, Ofelia s anguish becomes beneficial for her when she constructs
a realm of magical creatures. Ofelia is abused by her fascist step father, Captain
Vidal and has a mother who provides minimal support for her. In the movie, the first
instance of abuse is seen when Captain Vidal squeezes Ofelia s hand. He squeezes
her hand to assert dominance and correction on Ofelia. At the same time, her
mother, Carmen, does not believe in Ofelia s fairy tales and assumes Ofelia is
behaving mischievously. The mother explains, Fairy tales you are a bit too old to be
filling your head with such nonsense (Pan s Labyrinth). Ofelia becomes embittered by
the misery that surrounds her and her anger inspires her to use her imagination.
(Prove with examples) Through her fantasies, she is now able to escape her mother s
abandonment and her tyrannical step father.

The Theme Of Deceived Love In Gabrielle Roy s The Tin

French canadian author Gabrielle Roy dedicated her work to the illustration of the
working class in its daily whereabouts. Her novels show a raw reality combined
with great sensibility. Her first book, The Tin Flute is set in Montreal, in St Henri s
neighbourhood where we follow the tribulations of young waitress Florentine
Lacasse. The story takes place during the Second World War. One of the main themes
of The Tin Fluteis love, deceived love. Around this main theme revolve other motives
such as family, dispossession, war, loneliness and many more. This love that was
deceived is exploited throughout the novelby its descriptions, various dialogs and it s
incarnation in the characters themselves. The original French title, Bonheur d

For example, Jean tells Florentine that he is not her boyfriend and implies that
marriage is not something he would commit to. He could not provide Florentine
what he himself was deprived from all his life. She symbolizes the life he has
struggled to escape from: Florentine s image might fade in his memory, [...] never
would he forget the horrid poverty that had been the setting of their moment of
love. (211). Emmanuel s feeling for Florentine alters his perception of her and he
grows confused between his idealisation of her and the real life Florentine; Had he
been wrong about all those evenings when he had, in his fancy, danced with her,
chatted with her, [...]. Did she correspond to his dreams, [...] or was she quite
different, and he would have to teach her to love him? (293). The protagonist,
Florentine is herself this deceived love. She is cheated and in order to amend her
heart, she deceives the heart of Emmanuel. Another character, whose feelings are in
a certain way deceived, is Yvonne. Indeed, the heroine s little sister offers to
dedicate her life to God in exchange for him to cure Daniel. Each character of The

Nietzsche s On The Genealogy Of Morals
Humanity s natural aggression means that civilization is constantly threatened with
disintegration and it must make every effort to ensure these urges are curbed, in order
for its continued existence. He continues in this vein, by stating that, in order for
people to forgo the satisfaction of their tendency to aggression civilization encourages
us to form into groups, however for this to work their must continue to be outsiders,
that the aggression can be turned towards. This is in accordance with On the
Genealogy of Morals, where it is the Slaves ascetic nature that forces them to also
control their instincts. Likewise, both Freud and Nietzsche assert that these
restrictions cause people to internalise their aggressions, turning inward.... Show more

They both see the values of society as being a result of and necessary for civilization,
rather than natural phenomena. Both theorists see guilt as stemming from a
restriction of humanity s natural urges, Nietzsche believing that it was a tool used by
the priests to control the masses. Freud on the other hand thought it developed from a
repression of humanity s aggression towards one another. Equally, Freud and
Nietzsche show a similar disdain for religion, the former seeing it as a delusional,
infantile way to limit the pain and suffering that existence brings with it and the
latter, due to what he sees as the transvaluation of values that the Judeo Christian
religions have brought about and the perceived cultural inaction that stems from this.
As well as this, Nietzsche disliked the apparent inherited debt that comes with
Christianity and the obligated guilt from Christ s

A History of the City of Buffalo
Many things from the past have brought about the way we live today. The history
of a big city has a tremendous affect of making our town a better place to live.
Architecture that was once full of life is currently standing but abandoned
downtown, in the city of Buffalo. These architectural pieces are what make
Buffalo so special and outstanding. It s not always about the new technological
advances and new buildings that are being built, but the ones with the older
memories that should be appreciated and looked at as a reminder of how Buffalo
came to be. The older buildings still make up a great part in this large city, whether
abandoned or not, they should still be admired as a piece of art in our history. The
city of Buffalo was established because of a man by the name of Joseph Ellicott,
who created the map of Buffalo in 1804. He had a plan for a perfect city, and his
map still resembles the city today (Priebe). To have Buffalo look like a map from
over 200 years ago, is remarkable. Many of these old businesses and buildings
closed down over the years, only to build new ones. These businesses once held
many jobs for people, some that can t be replaced. Even though many businesses
shut down, some still exist today and carry on its history. Because of the businesses
and its proximity to the Great Lakes and Canada, Buffalo remains one of the
greatest cities. The village of Buffalo was planned by Joseph Ellicott in 1804.
Ellicott had a map plan of what he wanted Buffalo to

is extreme and above the hate he has for anyone else. The cause of that is that he has
high moral standards and honor for his family. Along that note, Hamlet has very high
expectations for Gertrude and when he finds out that they have not been met he
grows an immense amount of anger. The reader can infer Hamlet s hate is most
intense for his mother than any other characters through the emotions he expresses to
others, the diction he uses, and the actions he performs. ... Show more content on

Ray Bradbury Characteristics
Ray Bradbury was best known for his short stories. He worked very hard when he
was alive and was influenced by events happening around him. Many people were
kind and caring in the times that he wrote his stories but there were also a lot of
people who had many flaws. Mostly because of war or poverty but some had their
own reasonings. In turn, he implemented some of the characteristics of people in
that time, in his characters. In many ways, the main character in A Sound of
Thunder (Eckels) is flawed. He is arrogant, impatient, and believes that if he feels
regret, then anything bad he has done will be forgiven and fixed. He shares those
flaws with William, one of Bradbury s characters in All Summer In a Day. Although,
in some ways, the characteristics... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They always have to interfere with events where they don t like what is happening.
So, they decide that they should try and fix it themselves but they are just making
it worse. They also don t really think about what they are doing, they just do. In All
Summer In a Day, William is extremely rude to Margot and doesn t like the stuff
she does so he does things to try and change those things so he is happy but he
doesn t think about Margot s feelings he just shouts at her saying What re you
looking at? (Bradbury) and Speak when you re spoken to (Bradbury). He doesn t
think, he just does, he is very impulsive and impatient. Similarly, Eckels is
remarkably impatient and impulsive. He is frightened and nervous when he realizes
that killing a dinosaur is extremely dangerous and he he just took a few steps,
blinking, shuffling. Not that way! (Bradbury). He doesn t listen to the other people
shouting, he just walks off the path. He hurts himself by doing this because he
changed the future and he hurt the people around him because he didn t only change
the future he lived in, he changed everything. Although William and Eckels have the
same trait, they use it differently. William uses it to tear a person apart (Margot) and
Eckels uses it to change people s lives (unintentionally but still stupidly) and to
change the future. Both William and Eckels are to blame for the majority of their
problems in their story and one of the biggest reasons why is that they are impatient

George Washington Two Term Limit
Term Limits America s founding father, George Washington, set the pattern for
presidential term limits to two four year terms; but not through any legislative
means. Before 1947, there were no term limit rules. George Washington s footsteps
as the first President set an unbroken precedent for term limits, but it wasn t until
much later that the 22nd Amendment was passed. In more recent years, politicians
and citizens alike have begun to point out more of the flaws in the two term limit
than ever before; and they are on the right track. Restricting the president to a two
term limits the president s effectiveness in office, provides the opportunity for an
elected president to abuse power, and restricts a current president from continuing a
successful policy even when majority wishes for the opposite George Washington,
while considered to be the founder of term limits, actually opposed them entirely. In
a letter to the Marquis de Lafayette, Washington said, I can see no propriety in
precluding ourselves from the service of any man who...shall be deemed capable of
serving the public, (Washington Post 2013). Washington didn t step down from the

longer feel that respect is necessary. This, by itself, creates huge issues in an effective
executive office. Lack of respect for the leader of the free world leads to failure for

Epinephrine is a (stress) hormone that has a short life that immediately responses to
challenges in the sympathetic nervous system and also acts as a neurotransmitter. Its
side kick, norepinephrine is known for regulating blood pressure. When the body is
put into stress, the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla will build catecholamines
and when released will bind to the protein plasma (albumin). Cortisol is also a
hormone (glucocorticoid) produced by the adrenal cortex that is activated during
stress by ACTH, but has a long term effector and half life. Catecholamines and
cortisol are both (stress) hormones that are located in the adrenal gland/cortex. They
both increase glucose production and release, increase hormone sensitivity, and has
actions on most of the same tissue / systems. In addition, together they can suppress
the TH1 response causing Th2 to shift.
Catecholamines and cortisol have different actions as catcholamines controls the
activity of existing enzymes and cortisol controls the amount of an enzyme by
increasing or decreasing it.
Finally, cortisol is required for PNMT expression, and therefore for

Were the Dark Ages really Dark The Dark Ages is a layman s term that refers to the
Middle Ages. This was the time when The Roman Empire collapsed. After the
Roman Empire came the Italian Renaissance. During this time, there was also the
age of discovery. Many people refer to these as The Dark Agesbecause they look at
the negative things that characterized this time. A scholar called Francesco Petrarca
is the person who came up with that definition. He felt that the quality of Latin
Literature at the time was very poor. He also felt that the human culture was very

The dark ages were not really dark. There were many positive things that developed
at this time. People developed culturally and intellectually. The reasons the dark
ages were not really dark are this age saw scientific foundations laid, art and
architecture and religious unity. Education institutions made scientific foundations
possible because people began to learn and they could apply the learnings in their
scientific research. Art and architecture also gained traction during these ages. For
example, art in the early ages was devoid of color and was only in religious forms.
After some time, artists began to experiment with different types and genres of art.
These art styles and pieces became a reference point for scholars today. One way
for people to appreciate art is to study the works of those who created art before
them. Religion became a unifying factor for people because they could believe in
teachings and doctrines. People became intuitive and they could understand the
creeds and canons of the religion. The Catholic Church was the main religion at the
time. It helped the west to develop because it prompted people to make commitments
to live right. All these show that the ages brought more good than

that represents (Google.com). Laura Esquivel, author of Like Water for Chocolate
incorporates symbols to give her novel an in depth meaning for her characters

self guidance to seek the inner flame in every individual in society, Biblical

from the premonition Tita had of her White Wedding (Billy Idol). These symbolic

In chapter three, Esquivel provides several different symbolic imagery between
Tita, Pedro and Gertrudis. For instance, before Tita began preparing the Quail in
Rose Petal Sauce , Pedro had given Tita Pink roses to celebrate her first year as
ranch cook (Esquivel 48). Of course, this action upset not only Rosaura but Mama
Elena as well and ordered Tita to get rid of the roses. Tita wanted to hold on to the
roses forever. However, as she held them the thorns pierced through her flesh, leaving
Tita with blood running on her chest also through the stems of the Roses. This is a
symbol of love, the rose s turning from pink to red. Considering receiving flowers
is an act of love, the truth is in the color. Pink resembles an affection opposed to the
color red which resembles true love. The fact that the roses turned pink to red
symbolizes Pedro has only affectionate emotions toward Tita. On the other hand,
Tita has passionate emotions toward Pedro. The blood from Tita s breasts and
hands (48) create a passionate meal for the family that only affects those who are
vulnerable. Vulnerability is suggested to symbolize the characters who are affected
because love, lust and passion are nothing more than a weakness of a forbidden sin to

Mark Twain always came up with quotes from his books, and because of an intense
curiosity I started reading his two classics. These books made me feel a variation
of emotions, such as happiness and acute desire to learn history and many more.
He had an abrupt way of telling things as they were, and a lot of people, including
me, were and are drawn to his stories because they do not refine people or society.
His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions
his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit
these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper
is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. He
has not only opened many people s eyes, but also motivated great authors, such as
Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create characters
that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it
teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The
Adventure of Tom Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s
perspective.
To conclude, Mark Twain is still relevant today and he teaches people the importance
of empathy, but also gives an insight to how unjust the society was before. He has
written many great things, a lot of them based on humour, such as The Adventures of
A Connection Between Existence And Absence
Life could sometimes be harsh and not grant us the ability to care for ourselves and
therefore rely on others to survive. Being unable to care for oneself leads to a
diminished sense of self esteem. Not until the time we lack the ability to perform the
things we want, do we feel the absence and thus wish for their existence. This is so
because we have a humane nature of taking everything for granted. In his play
Endgame, Beckett uses many absurd elements to make a connection between
existence and absence. Throughout his characters Clov and Hamm, Beckett uses
each of them to demonstrate their incompleteness and thus the need to seek the
help of one other in order to survive and achieve their complete existence. Being a
caregiver or a nurse requires a lot of patience. Clov is the sole person whom helps
Hamm with his activities of daily living. That job for Clov is identical to being
someone s caregiver or nurse. It is similar to a nursing assistant taking care of an
elderly or a disabled person in a senior living facility, nursing home or a hospital.
There could be times when the job may seem punitive because of the redundancy of
certain tasks. For instance, there could be someone who is bedridden and requires a
lot of cares versus another patient who is independent but only needs minimal
assistance. In Endgame, Hamm relies on Clov for helping him but yet Clov is
complaining about the redundancy and repetitiveness of one of the tasks: getting him
up and putting him to bed.

collection, management, processing, disposal, recycling, burning, and/or
minimization of waste. The waste involved includes(but is not limited to) solid waste,
hazardous waste, marine waste, human waste, food waste, organic waste, construction

History/Background: The Waste and Disposal Services Industry was created out of
human/global necessity. We humans have always had waste; there have even been
waste dumps found that date back to the Mayans. Until recent centuries, most of
our waste was organic and easily tossed aside. However, as civilizations became

Nowadays, with the development of technology, the demand for high speed

The high rotation speed will cause not only the dramatic increase of temperature
but also the loud noise. The low energy efficiency of HDDs is due to the heat loss
which is caused by high temperature, and the friction in mechanical content of discs
and air. As for the SSD, the data will be stored in the flash chip through the channel
of transistors, so it does not require rotating [4]. It can save a massive range of
energy which HDDs will lose when HDDs are rotating. It is extremely energy
efficient to use SSDs in ICT equipment because the demand for writing or reading
data is increasing dramatically. The drawback is that the price of SSDs is much
higher than that of HDDs, so the SSD is difficult to be widely used until the price is
reasonable. In addition, improving the energy efficiency of cooling system is also
effective [5]. To be specific, it is important to use right sizing cooling system, which
can automatically adjust the power of cooling system [5]. The temperature for ICT
equipment is variable, therefore the cooling system can increase the power while the
temperature is high. On the contrary, the cooling system can decrease the power
while the temperature is low. To successfully implement right sizing cooling system,
the data center operators should take additional methods to measure the temperature
[5]. Thirdly, the energy efficiency of serverprocessors is also helpful for reducing
energy consumption
Home Maintenance
Problems with home maintenance can become harmful if not taken care of in a
timely manner. The most cost effective way to protect your home is with ongoing
and preventive maintenance. Spending time and money now can help avoid costly
repairs and improve your home s ability to with stand natural hazards. Ongoing
maintenance goes a long way toward avoiding costly repairs, improving energy
efficiency, prolonging the life of major systems and appliances and preserving your

Isis Nursing Horus
Isis Nursing Horus
1. Introduction As I entered the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, I began viewing the
artworks, and it was there that I noticed a beautiful sculpture. Right away it captured
my attention. It was a statute of Isis sitting with Horus on her lap. It was called Isis
Nursing Horus. First, I liked the subject matter. It was very feminine, but also showed
what a strong woman Isis was. There were other sculptures that I saw while viewing
which were much more detailed and painted. But this sculpture was my favarite. As
Plutarch writes of Isis: she is both wise and a lover of wisdom; as her name appears
to denote that, more than any other, knowing and knowledge belong to her (
Plutarch). The name of sculpture and its magnificence ... Show more content on

For example, the titles of Divine Mother and Star of the Sea are common by both
Isis and Mary.

The greatest temple to Isis is on Philae, an island in the Nile, and it dates back to 380
B.C.E. ancient Egyptians believed that Isis protected Egypt from invasion from the
vantage of her temple on Philae (Fleming, Lothian). Isis Osiri Isis has come to
symbolizes faithfulness and the power of restorative love. According to the
Egyptians practice of embalming, the myth of Isis and Osiris is one of death and
rebirth. Their mother is Nut, Goddess of the sky; their father is Geb, God of the
Earth (Cott 9). Isis gets married to Osiris, her brother, and they are happy together.
They work together to bring civilization to humanity. But their brother envies their
happiness and kills Osiris. Isis overwhelmed by his death, and cuts her hair and
rips her clothes in her sorrow. In despair, she travels to the home of Queen Astarte
in Phoenica to locate Osiris s body. She becoms a nursemaid to Queen Astarte s
infant son and becomes bonded with the infant. Therefore, she bestows the cloak of
immoratality on the child. She is discovered placing the infant in the hearth fire and
is stopped by the horror stricken Queen. In this time, Isis expresses her identity and
her search for Osiris to Queen Astarte. The Queen leads Isis to find Osiris by
making a connection between the fragrant tree in the palace garden and Isis s tale.
(Cott, 10)Therefore, Isis finds Osiris s
TV Show Scandal Analysis
Why the TV Show Scandal is Relevant to Black Actresses Actress DeWanda Wise
shared how the evolution of black women in both television and film struck her
and how she always saw actress Kerry Washington and her show Scandal as the
turning point. According to Wise, when Scandal premiered in 2012, she noticed
how the auditions started to change. She found herself being tested on a lead
character s role and no longer tied to the sidekick role she always auditioned for.
When the show ended after seven seasons, people were hearing about stories on
how a number of black actresses auditioned for the highly coveted role of Olivia
Pope on Scandal. The show s creator Shonda Rhimes confirmed the story on how
every black actress wanted to get the role... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, Gabrielle Union, another actress who auditioned for the role eventually
got the lead part of a television movie called Being Mary Jane. It became the
highest rated series on BET. In 2014, Rhimes once again, cast a black actress for
another series. Viola Davis nabbed the role of Annalise Keating in How to Get
Away with Murder. Soon after, even Taraji P. Henson who also auditioned for
Scandal landed her own television series called Empire. Other shows that followed
suit included Queen Sugar starring Rutina Wesley, Bianca Lawson, and Dawn
Lyen Gardner. Regina King also got her own series, American Crime while Sanaa
Lathan grabbed the role in Shots Fired. The trend for shows with black actresses as
the leading role continue to grow. We have Issa Rae on Insecure, Tracee Ellis Ross
for Black ish, and Yara Shahidi on Grown ish. All of these black characters and black
actresses on television can thank Olivia Pope for paving way for the entry of female
black led series. The success of the Scandal will live on the lives of the black
actresses on television even as the show has ended this year. Everyone will
remember how the D.C. fixer has created more opportunities and opened doors for
black actresses to show their black girl magic on
Failure To Abnormal Behavior
Behaviour is considered abnormal under this definition if it is deemed to be
unacceptable in the society. This approach comes with many limitations. Social norm
could be a desirability and is easily manipulated. Some societies find certain people
undesirable, often the ones opposing government or religion. In USA for example, in
1950s people with communist views were sent to mental healthinstitutions. Every
society is changing with the time, change of believes and affected by other factors.
For example homosexuality was classed as abnormality by World Health
Organisation until 1980s, but nowadays it is normal in the Western Society, while
there are still numerous societies, where homosexuality is classed as abnormal. The
norms vary between the societies so significantly that a norm in them could be an
opposite behaviour.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They form part of the base for the Global Assessment of Functioning, score of
which indicates if person is abnormal. This method is very useful as gives a clear
checklist for assessment. At the same time this approach is also limited, as it does
not define what abnormality is, but scores someone s potential psychological
problems and possible need of professional help. Secondly, any behaviour must be
considered in the context, which is not reflected in the assessment. Finally, person
with mental disorder in some cases is able to function adequately in day to day life,
while person affected by factors, unrelated to the mental health could be failing.
Deviation from Ideal Mental Health This is very different approach from others. In
1958 Marie Jahoda defined six characteristics of a person with ideal mental health.
The main limitation of this approach is that extremely few people fulfil all the
criteria, making most of people
Oakley Backpack Research Paper
Oakley Backpack:
The design of my drawing is from my personal backpack that I would say that is one
my most favorite backpacks that I have ever owned. I am also currently using it for
going to school as well. The design of the Oakley backpack is very simple with the
square shape, however, this backpack is free size and adjustable depend on the shape
of the stuffs put in. The back itself is made by lightweight material and it is water
proof. The main pocket has no zip which is really easy to use and access, to close the
backpack is to fold the top down to a certain height and use the lock on left and right
to clip it. There are several reasons that I picked this Oakley backpack to be one of
my preferred design. First, this backpack is my personally
Greek Influence On Society
As a child I have always been fascinated with the history and influence of Greece.
When I first learned about the Olympics and how it derived from ancient Greek
times, I couldn t believe that these types of sports were still being played in today s
society. When the move 300 first came out in 2006, it just motivated me to learn
more and more about the conflict during those times. Even during my eighth grade
western civics class when we discussed the structure of the United States government
and democracy of Greece, it finally clicked that the Greek culture has had a huge
impact in today s modern culture. First of all, the Greek influence is not just limited
to politics but also in Art, philosophy, mathematics, and even modern science.

Even though the United States is considered by a vast majority as a Democratic type
of government, the system is based on the Greek influence of Democracy but is a
Republic country. The influence of ancient Greece plays a key role on how our
government in the United States formed and works. Much like ancient Greece,
today s United States government is also divided into different branches; the
executive, legislative and the judicial. Ancient Greek movement structure was
divided into Ekklesia, which was similar to the legislative, or law making branch,
the Boule, which resembled the executive, or law enforcing branch, and the
Dikasteria, a rough equivalent of the judicial branch (Harmon). But one of the main
differences between what we know as the Legislative branch and the Ekklesia, is
that within the Legislative branch the Congressional Legislative is made up of
elected senators and representatives from every state. Unlike the Ekklesia, which
during the 40 annual meetings of the Ekklesia, any of the roughly 40,000 male
citizens of Athens was allowed to appear and participate (Harmon). This also limited
females to not be citizens in Greece, only males unlike in today where both females
and males can participate in
Ethical Teachings in Christianity and Islam Essay
There are several ethical teachings in Christianity and Islam that instruct Christians
and Muslims on how they should act in everyday life. These ethical teachings often
require the members of each religion to give generously to the welfare of those in
need. This essay will prove that both Islam and Christianity have ethical teachings
that instruct people to give to the needy. This will be proved by first defining what an
ethical guideline or teaching is, by looking at the Islamic ethical guidelines that
instruct Muslims to help those in need and finally through analysing the Christian
ethical guidelines that teach Christians to contribute to the welfare of those in need.
Ethics is the explicit, philosophical reflection on moral beliefs ... Show more content

Several Islamic guidelines instruct Muslims to give their wealth to those who don t
have wealth themselves. The most evident teaching is the third Pillar of Islam or
Zakat. Zakat teaches that well off Muslims must pay a welfare contribution for the
needy. It is paid once a year based on a person s cash savings, gold, silver and
jewellery. Zakat often takes the form of a tax collected by a government but in the
eyes of the contributor it is not simply a tax to pay but holds spiritual significance in
that through paying Zakat Muslims try to gain Allah s favour. Zakat is clearly an
ethical guideline that teaches Muslims to help the poor and needy.
Another teaching is contained in the guidelines set out for Muslims to follow. The
two relevant guidelines are You should support the community of Muslims and
Justice, compassion and generosity are frequently given as qualities of a truly human
life. These two ethical guidelines require Muslims to support the poor and needy as if
Muslims support the community through financial support than they are upholding
the first guideline and if Muslims are generous and give money, besides Zakat to the
poor and needy than they are upholding the second guideline. These guidelines tie in
with what the prophet Mohammed made very clear through several sermons and a
number of passages in the Qur an that there is a due above and over Zakat and that the

  • 2. Types Of Conflict Spiral And Avoidance Spiral Since conflict is made up of individuals with their own perceptions it only makes sense that there lie different paths that conflict can take. Some of the different paths that are destructive in nature are the escalatory spiral (Hocker Wilmot 29) and avoidance spiral (Hocker Wilmot 32). These spirals are made up of not only speech but physical actions that mean to damage another or seek to lessen the relationship between themselves. It is important to recognize what type of conflict spiralis happening so you may view the situation clearly and see what the next step is to possibly fixthis problem before it escalates past the point of repair. Recognizing that you are in an escalatory spiral is simple because it is categorized as a state where both parties involved take action to get even (qtd. in Hocker Wilmot 31) with the other person(s) involved. An escalatory spiral is a destructive means people take when there are [misunderstandings], discord and destruction (Wilmot 1987) (Hocker Wilmot 30). The interaction between those in conflict during an escalatory spiral becomes less about understanding and fixing the conflict and more about how to emotionally harm the other person involved. In an escalatory spiral, there is only one path for those that are engaging in it and that is upward and onward (Hocker Wilmot 30). For those that find themselves in an escalatory spiral they may find it difficult to get out of it because the original issue becomes buried

  • 4. The Machine Stops Essay At what point will society place a dependence upon technological advancements rather than the curiosity and interactions of mankind? With the constant acceleration of improvements within technology and any piece of information readily available many authors, artists, and individuals question the natural world as each generation more elaborately explores the innovative approaches towards science and technology. E.M. Forster s short story, The Machine Stops, is based upon a fear of the technological revolution, and it introduces the audience to a utopian society facing multiple forms of isolation as a result of his society reaching complete dependence upon the technology of the Machine. The society s reliance upon the Machine creates a divide between those who display an adoration and worship towards the Machine versus citizens who prevail and fight for their individual freedom. E.M. Forster illustrates the role he foresees technology to play in the end of human civilization through an exaggerated vision of the effects that technology leaves on our lives, which helps the audience to better understand our present day society properly. The conflicting views that Vashti and Kuno express concerning society s dependence and devotion towards the Machine emphasizes the change in human communication due to the advancement and dependence upon technology. Vashti and Kuno s expedition to the earth s surface accentuates the capability for technology to strip humans away from their
  • 5. Examples Of Willful Blindness Quite often, it is very difficult to understand the need for justice unless we ourselves are inconvenienced. Therefore, knowingly or unknowingly we ignore injustice committed on others believing such injustice bears no harm on us. However, this line of thinking can be morally and practically problematic. In what follows, I will consider three examples in which I illustrate why ignorance of injustice can be immoral while at same time bringing unfavorable outcomes. The moral and consequential considerations render willfully ignoring injustice a mistake that harms everyone involved in the system. Willful blindness is ignorance of injustice which is happening in our society. Willful blindness can be seen in our community and school very often. People ignore many harmful actions even though they know those actions hurt many people. Today willful blindness is very aspirating in U.S schools and administrators ignore: cheating in exams, bulling, and giving preferential treatment for athletes are manly seen as willful blindness. The first example I will consider is willful ignorance of cheating in school. It is very common that students who witness other students cheating choose not to report the incident, on the account that their action doesn t harm them personally. In addition, students might not want to be a snitch by exposing other students. While one might not necessarily be directly affected by the cheating of another student, indirectly this might lead the honor system

Cortisol is also a hormone (glucocorticoid) produced by the adrenal cortex that is activated during stress by ACTH, but has a long term effector and half life. • 37. A Connection Between Existence And Absence Life could sometimes be harsh and not grant us the ability to care for ourselves and therefore rely on others to survive. Being unable to care for oneself leads to a diminished sense of self esteem. Not until the time we lack the ability to perform the things we want, do we feel the absence and thus wish for their existence. This is so because we have a humane nature of taking everything for granted. In his play Endgame, Beckett uses many absurd elements to make a connection between existence and absence. Throughout his characters Clov and Hamm, Beckett uses each of them to demonstrate their incompleteness and thus the need to seek the help of one other in order to survive and achieve their complete existence. Being a caregiver or a nurse requires a lot of patience. Clov is the sole person whom helps Hamm with his activities of daily living. That job for Clov is identical to being someone s caregiver or nurse. It is similar to a nursing assistant taking care of an elderly or a disabled person in a senior living facility, nursing home or a hospital. There could be times when the job may seem punitive because of the redundancy of certain tasks. For instance, there could be someone who is bedridden and requires a lot of cares versus another patient who is independent but only needs minimal assistance. In Endgame, Hamm relies on Clov for helping him but yet Clov is complaining about the redundancy and repetitiveness of one of the tasks: getting him up and putting him to bed.

The low energy efficiency of HDDs is due to the heat loss which is caused by high temperature, and the friction in mechanical content of discs and air. As for the SSD, the data will be stored in the flash chip through the channel of transistors, so it does not require rotating [4]. It can save a massive range of energy which HDDs will lose when HDDs are rotating. It is extremely energy efficient to use SSDs in ICT equipment because the demand for writing or reading data is increasing dramatically. The drawback is that the price of SSDs is much higher than that of HDDs, so the SSD is difficult to be widely used until the price is reasonable. In addition, improving the energy efficiency of cooling system is also effective [5]. To be specific, it is important to use right sizing cooling system, which can automatically adjust the power of cooling system [5]. The temperature for ICT equipment is variable, therefore the cooling system can increase the power while the temperature is high. • 48. Greek Influence On Society As a child I have always been fascinated with the history and influence of Greece. When I first learned about the Olympics and how it derived from ancient Greek times, I couldn t believe that these types of sports were still being played in today s society. When the move 300 first came out in 2006, it just motivated me to learn more and more about the conflict during those times. Even during my eighth grade western civics class when we discussed the structure of the United States government and democracy of Greece, it finally clicked that the Greek culture has had a huge impact in today s modern culture. The influence of ancient Greece plays a key role on how our government in the United States formed and works. Much like ancient Greece, today s United States government is also divided into different branches; the executive, legislative and the judicial. Ancient Greek movement structure was divided into Ekklesia, which was similar to the legislative, or law making branch, the Boule, which resembled the executive, or law enforcing branch, and the Dikasteria, a rough equivalent of the judicial branch (Harmon). This also limited females to not be citizens in Greece, only males unlike in today where both females and males can participate in

Zakat often takes the form of a tax collected by a government but in the eyes of the contributor it is not simply a tax to pay but holds spiritual significance in that through paying Zakat Muslims try to gain Allah s favour. Zakat is clearly an ethical guideline that teaches Muslims to help the poor and needy. Another teaching is contained in the guidelines set out for Muslims to follow. The two relevant guidelines are You should support the community of Muslims and Justice, compassion and generosity are frequently given as qualities of a truly human life. These two ethical guidelines require Muslims to support the poor and needy as if Muslims support the community through financial support than they are upholding the first guideline and if Muslims are generous and give money, besides Zakat to the poor and needy than they are upholding the second guideline.
