Reflection On Gender And Socialization
Gender socialization is defined as the process in which people learn to behave according to
stereotypical gender roles (Iwamoto, 2017). In my own life, gender socialization caused me to modify
my actions, behaviors, and relationships. Furthermore, although I have learned that these stereotypes
come from a place of generalization, and do not need to be endorsed, gender socialization still impacts
me even throughout my adult life. Because my parents are both immigrants from Bangladesh, most of
the gender roles I was exposed to as a child came from my family. One of the most prevalent aspects
of my family, and my overall culture, is arranged marriage. Both my mom and grandma experienced
an arranged marriage, and because I lived with both these women as a child, they were constantly
preparing me for my own future arranged marriage.
They taught me how to make tea for guests, how to cook traditional Bengali food, and how to clean
the house, all before I turned 10 years old. Whenever I wanted to do something that went against what
it meant to be a proper young girl, such as play with my younger brothers outside or skip making tea
one time, I heard the words, No one will marry you if you act like this. When I was about 11 years old,
I was sick of hearing that, so I screamed at my mom, telling her that maybe I don t want to get
married. I remember the look of shock on her face so clearly, even close to a decade later. Her next
words were, Well, the only other thing you can do is become a nun. Being told from such a young age
that I only had two choices in my life, get married or become a nun caused me to feel continuously
angry, especially at my family. I thought that nothing I did ever mattered as long as I did not find a
husband, have children, and spend the rest of my life taking care of them.
In this case, the specific multidimensional feminine norms I was taught to endorse were the domestic
norm, which mean that women are taught to be neat and clean, the care for children norm, which mean
that women are taught they should want children, and the romantic relationship norm, which mean
that women are taught that relationships are needed in life (Iwamoto, 2017).
Furthermore, although in Bengali culture it

Psychological Effects Of Marijuana Essay
For this paper I chose the topic of Marijuana. Marijuana is the crumbled parts of the Marijuana plant.
The origin of Marijuana was written in the writing of the Chinese emperor Shen Nung. At this point in
time 2737 B.C. it was used as a form of medicine until it spread to India where it was used
recreationally. The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 classified marijuana along with heroin and LSD
as a Schedule I drug, i.e., having the relatively highest abuse potential and no accepted medical use
(Marijuana History. (n.d.)). This substance has been used in many different ways over the years.
Medical Marijuana can be ingested by smoking it (pipe, rolling into a joint or cigarette, or by using a
bong), vaporizing it, eating it, using it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When using the substance, it triggers these brain receptors which in turn triggers the effects that you
get using the substance. Some of the effects that come with this are mild euphoria, alterations in vision
and judgment result in distortions of time and space, acute intoxication that may occasionally induce
visual hallucinations, anxiety, depression, extreme variability of mood, paranoid reactions, and
psychoses lasting from four to six hours. Physical effects include reddening of the eyes, dryness of the
mouth and throat, moderate increase in the rapidity of the heartbeat, tightness of the chest (if the drug
is smoked), drowsiness, unsteadiness, and muscular incoordination (Pharmacology of Marijuana
MassCann/NORML. (n.d.)). The brain does produce a TCH like substance that gives off a natural high
without using any drugs whatsoever. But when using the substance this increases the THC levels in
your body with overall gives you a chemically induced high. Using this substance often would be
considered as chronic use. When using Marijuana daily it can effect your memory but it is because
TCH stays in the body up to 48 hours after using the substance (Pharmacology of Marijuana
MassCann/NORML. (n.d.)) , so if you do use it everyday you will eventually lose brain cells that ties
to memory. Also there is evidence that the THC content of some strains of marijuana being sold today
might be as high as

Second World War Essay
Second World War
My generation has already witnessed a day of infamy, less than two short years ago (or so CNN tells
us). My grandfather would remember a different day, a morning marked by another surprise attack on
America. That ambush, said Japanese General Yamamoto, awakened a sleeping giant. Analysis of
American foreign policy begs the question: what if the giant had spurned its peaceful slumber?
Instead, the behemoth could have chosen to lumber about. Odds are that the footsteps would not have
fallen lightly, the reverberations spreading across the globe all this, only had Wilsonians been at the
helm of American foreign policy.
The Jacksonian tradition steered the United States to victory in the Second World War. Once lulled ...

Jacksonians value self reliance, equality, individualism, financial freedom, and courage. They cling
doggedly to these pillars of their creed, but reject their universalist application beyond American
borders. Jacksonians care about their neighbors, their countrymen. Their distaste for international
affairs is apparent: the absolute and even brutal distinction drawn between the members of the
community and outsiders has had massive implications in American life (14). This patriotic sentiment,
deeply imbedded in the American middle class, demands of its government officials a domestic focus
instead of worldwide support of moral values (15), as Wilsonians advocate.
The Jacksonian defense policy, the fundamental cornerstone of the doctrine, has played a fundamental
role in making the United States a superpower. Today, witty Swarthmore students poke fun at George
Bush: George, the gun slinging cowboy holding the smoking barrel. What they fail to understand,
however, is that the object of their mockery albeit distorted with their sarcasm has earned their country
a pre eminent position in world politics. It is time they recognize the mentality which fueled the
mercurial rise of their country: Jacksonians see the Second Amendments, the right to bear arms, as the
citadel of liberty...The right of the citizen to defend family and property with deadly force is a sacred
one (8, 14).

Maggi Case Study
Introduction: #MaggiInASoup
For nearly three decades, Nestle s Maggi noodles was the ultimate success story: an unlikely product
embraced wholeheartedly by a difficult market. Over the last few weeks, it s become a case study of
an entirely different sort a textbook example of how not to handle a crisis.
According to the World Instant Noodles Association, India consumed 5,340 million cups or bags of
instant noodles through 2014. It counts among the fastest growing markets in the world for the snack,
having almost doubled in size since 2010 when it accounted for 2,940 million units. Maggi is
estimated to have a 70 per cent share of the market, and contributes nearly 30 per cent to Nestle s Rs
9000 crore annual turnover. While starting off life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where did it go wrong?
A common complaint is how clinical Nestle s reaction has been. While the brand ambassadors are
obviously scared of talking given the possibility of being dragged into a legal imbroglio, there s
literally no face to the campaign at the time of going to print. Sourav Ray, chief strategy officer, Havas
observes, I would have expected the leadership team to have come out and taken ownership of this
problem.
Communication strategy of Nestle was quite ineffective in the wake of the disaster as the authorities
and the Headquarters took a long time in responding to the claims of Nestle being pulled off the
shelves. If the strategy would have been clear the media fiasco Nestle got embroiled into could have
been easily avoided.
Recommendations
Nestle should take cue from Cadbury and cola giants who have had troubles of their own in the Indian
market but with clear communication strategy were able to get themselves back on their feet and their
cases may still remain only for academic

Compare And Contrast The Interlopers And To Build A Fire
Many different stories have many similarities and differences, this is what brings two stories together
or splits them apart. The interlopers and To build a fire have many different similarities with a few
differences here and there. The interlopers is about two men with a bad past through family
generations. The Von Gradwitz family and the Znaeym family has had feuds through their families for
the past three generations over a bit of land and who the ownership belonged to. Both men were
traveling through the woods when nature decided now would be a good time to be against them. A
storm occurred striking a tree in the process trapping the two men when it had fallen. Throughout the
story the two men argue, come up with a survival plan, and make amends, but sadly doesn t make it

In The Interlopers the man changed by forgiving and becoming friends with his enemy, which showed
that he changed as a person and chose to be the bigger person. In To build a fire the man didn t change
and was still naive when he went out into Alaska by himself and chose not to take anyone with him.
This showed that he wanted to do things himself while the character in The Interlopers decided to ask
for forgiveness so that his men could help the other man also. Along with this both stories had strong
characters, the interlopers had a man who did everything he could to survive the freezing weather,
even if that meant putting the dog s life before his, and in To build a fire the man went over his own
ego to make friends with his enemy to try to survive but sadly didn t. But in the end both characters
died even if they were caused by different deaths. At the end of the story To build a fire the man froze
to death but with him his ego and naiveness it got the best of him. The interlopers the men died from

The Role Of Women And Their Influence On The War
Nevertheless, another vital component in The Iliad is the role of women and their influence on the war
and their association with different characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, disputes that ladies had
some freedom and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar inscribes:
In the Homeric epics, women seem to have little independence; they were always under the
guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s
cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are
completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503).
I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are constrained by man. As the author
noted about Chryseis been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(The Iliad I.13 14, 22 23,25 30 32).
After the confrontation between Agamemnon and Chyrses, Agamemnon requests for another war prize
as Lefkowitz says, The priest prays to Apollo, reminds the god of his services to him, and the gods the
plague on the Greeks, so that Agamemnon is forced to return Chryseis, and as a result demands that
the Greek give him another prize. (Lefkowitz 504). This causes Agamemnon to demand Achilles prize
Briseis although she did not want to leave Achilles. At last a quarrel over a woman grounds Achilles to
not battle for the Achaeans bringing deaths and setbacks in the war. This demonstrates women
assumed a critical part in the poem.
In comparison to Lefkowitz, Homer mentions in Book one of The Iliad that women are seen as
property and objects for pleasure. Women are identified and used as items such as sex slaves. King
Agamemnon stresses the soldiers to proceed apprehending Briseis by exclaiming;
Go to Achilles lodge. Take Brises at once, his beauty Brises by the hand and bring her here. But if he
will not surrender her, I ll go myself. I ll seize her myself, with an army at my back and all the worse
for him! Patroclus obeyed his great friend s command. He led Briseis in all her beauty from the lodge
and handed her over to the men to take away. And the two walked back along the Argive ships while

Why Is Barry Minkow Unethical
After reading the case, it was truly fascinating how a very young man, Barry Minkow, could pull off
such a huge fraud and how greed and audaciousness can make someone become so unethical. The fact
that a young man had a goal and would do everything and anything to make sure he reaches his goal
led him to commit fraud through his fake insurance restoration business. It all started when he was 15
years old and was driven to be successful, so he began a carpet cleaning business but soon came to
realize that he would make it big if he were in the insurance restoration business. The way he gained
customers for his business was by calling channel 4 in Los Angeles, pretending to be a fact customer,
and explaining to them how the 16 year old owner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that Minkow is an egoist because his only concern was himself and how he could benefit
himself and did everything to make sure he was continuing to make money. He defies the 6 Pillars of
Character, which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. As the
case was briefly explained Barry broke each pillar by lying to everyone and creating the phony
company. He was also lying about his revenue and overcharging customers for services, which is
unfair because he is stealing from people who trusted him. He had the responsibility to do what was
right and didn t because he didn t care about anyone but himself and becoming successful.
Since the auditors failed to do their job properly, they should be held liable for failing to plan and
perform the audit to discover material fraud. The red flags the auditors should have picked up when
conducting the audit included rapid growth, bank transfers and other accounts, the avoidance of
confirming the insurance restoration jobs, consistency of all the invoices, extravagant life style, cash
flow problems, and problems meeting loan payments. Also the auditors never looked at construction
contracts, issues, and whether ZZZZ Best had the necessary permits to do the work. This shows the
auditors failed to exercise professional skepticism.
Due to the failure of the auditors the customers and banks were

Managing Organisational And Individual Change Essay
Managing Organisational and Individual Change (Reflection)
20th of January 2008 is to date the biggest life change I have had. It was a Saturday and I was playing
an important tennis match when I fainted. I woke up in Kings College Hospital Camberwell South
London. I had fainted because my blood sugar levels where too high and I was diagnosed with type 1
diabetes.
This is not a change I wanted or asked for but had to accept. (Buchannan and Huczynski 1985 pp.14,
15) define learning as The process of acquiring knowledge through experience which leads to a
change in behaviour . Being diagnosed with diabetes involves learning, Kolb s learning cycle 1984
activist stage describes individuals that want to dive into the swimming pool and see what happens, I
guess I was more forced into this learning stage rather than wanting to be in this stage.
One psychological theory I can relate to my experience of change is Piaget s theory of cognitive
development which involves 4 different stages. (Blake, B. and Pope, T. 2008).
Equilibrium, Accommodation, Assimilation and disequilibrium. Individuals are comfortable in a state
of equilibrium as they can take information and either assimilate or accommodate into pre existing
schemes Equilibrium (Agnes, 1999, p. 1282). Assimilation is the process of using new information in
the environment so it can be placed in pre existing cognitive structure. Accommodation is the process
of changing cognitive structures in order to accept

A Brief Note On Poverty And Its Effects On The United States
2. Poverty
In 2013 more than half of the Honduran population lived below the poverty line, with six out of ten
rural families living in extreme poverty. Honduras also ranked among the most unequal countries in
the region, and its middle class was among the smallest in LAC. Low levels of economic inclusion,
limited social mobility, and the extreme vulnerability of lower income households to a wide range of
shocks have made poverty in Honduras especially deep and intractable. Over the past 15 years more
and more Hondurans have left the country to seek opportunities abroad, particularly in the US, and
due to years of large scale migration Honduras now has one of the world s highest levels of
remittances as a share of GDP. Although remittances have enormous potential to reduce poverty and
increase incomes among households in the lower 40 percent of the income distribution, emerging
evidence suggests that they may also be causing Dutch Disease effects, as well as draining the country
s human capital stock and potentially discouraging labor force participation among domestic workers.
These dynamics have had significant effects on poverty trends. Remittances, together with labor
income and employment, have been the main drivers of shifting poverty levels over the last decade.
Cash transfers have had a positive impact on extreme poverty and social indicators, but their scope is
very limited compared with similar programs elsewhere in the region. While structural reforms and

The Themes Of Animal Stereotypes In The Movie Zootopia
Zootopia
Zootopia (2016) is another spectacular hit from Disney. It is a story about an unlikely hero
accompanied by an even surprising partner who sets out on a quest to solve a investigation threatening
Zootopia. Zootopia explored various themes and used animals as characters to effectively display
important themes such as stereotypes, prejudice and racism all while keeping it a movie the whole
family can enjoy. Zootopia utilises animals to display important themes as mentioned above and its
negative effects on society. Stereotypes played a key role in the movie. It can be seen in various scenes
of the movie, Judy being victim of it quite a lot. Similarly, prejudice was also demonstrated in the
movie with many characters having very false judgements, but were eventually proven wrong.
Likewise, racism was shown, just not to a full extent. The movie shows us a good example of today s
society with the animals portraying us humans.
In Zootopia, many animal stereotypes are explored, most of them which were very false.
Through the movie, various stereotypes were demonstrated in Zootopia. It was a key part of the
movie, Judy and Nick were all victims of stereotypes as with many other animals. The stereotypes
were based on animal s appearances, shape and features. From start to finish, Judy Hopps was
stereotyped for being who she was, a rabbit. On her quest to become a cop, no one saw her as a
suitable cop and stereotyped her for being a rabbit. Everyone viewed her as a dumb bunny or a carrot
farmer bunny and didn t consider her as a cop. Animals also stereotyped her size, since she is so small
they think she can t handle herself. A good example can be seen on her first day of the work. When
Judy first entered to work, she met Clawhauser. Immediately, your eyes are drawn to Clawhauser, for
me, hes very salient. You have this cat who is much bigger in the centre of the image while Judy is
standing, barely visible to Clawhauser as she is so short. Your attention goes to clawhauser as you
notice how much bigger he is compared to Judy. Various angles are displayed during their inimate
conversation. As for the orientation, Judy is looking up towards Clawhauser, as he is barely visible

Persuasive Essay On The Declaration Of Independence
A treasure that we should continually use for our decisions on the new challenges we face. (Esposito)
Frank J. Esposito echos the purpose of The Declaration of Independence(DOI)in this new era and how
it should be implemented in a modern government. The DOI is the most influential piece of writing
that has ever come to be. It served it s purpose in 1777 by uniting the colonists against Great Britain in
a bold declaration of independence. This persuasive essay was written by Thomas Jefferson and edited
by important figures, which are now known as the founding fathers. Not only, is the DOI an important
part of history, but it has also become the model for many other persuasive writings. Thomas Jefferson
used techniques like siding with the acrimonious reader, considering the historical precedent and the
conceding of a point, to create a compelling argument to persuade the reader s of The Declaration of
Independence. Thomas Jefferson used persuasion with the acrimonious reader by siding and
understanding the opposing view of The Declaration of Independence. To comprehend why this
technique was so effective, there should be an understanding of what is meant by an acrimonious
reader. An acrimonious reader is one who will not agree with the author s writing. Jefferson reaches
the acrimonious reader by siding, with the purpose to, declare the causes which impel them to the
separation. Jefferson wants the disagreeing side to question their opposing beliefs, all this by
presenting evidence, which is unarguable and cannot be set aside. Essentially, it become a
demonstration that the author is considering the opposing view and understands that the opposite is a
valid argument. If I am charged with microscopic views, I shall treat the charge as captious, unless its
author is able to show, that a different lens would lead to different conclusions. (Droit and Richard)
Both Droit and Seldon, when criticising the DOI, understood that there must be an understanding of
the arguments of both sides in order for persuasion to take place. If a writer s argument is one sided,
then it becomes impossible to hook the acrimonious reader, who serves as the target for persuasion.
Persuasion only works if the reader keeps reading,

Distinctive Visuals in Run Lola Run Essay
A composer can create images dependant on the form of the language of texts to shape a responders
understanding of the ideas and themes prompted by people and their experiences. The German film,
Run Lola Run written and directed by Tom Tykwer, focuses on the experiences of the protagonist Lola
to explore the themes of the inevitable force of time, and the issue of freewill verses determinism.
Similarly, Dorothea Mackellar, in her poem My Country , relies on her experiences of the Australian
landscape to convey her love and passion for the country using the language of the distinctive visual.
The distinctively visual techniques employed by Tykwer in Run Lola Run, function to raise the
importance of time, its inevitability, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Split screen techniques divide the screen into three equal proportions creating a simultaneous
depiction of Lola, Manni and the clock, allowing Tykwer to show the struggle to beat time. Adding to
the dramatic urgency and reinforcing the power of time is the virtual real time of the film, meaning the
twenty minutes of Lola s life are shown in virtually twenty minutes of screen time. Hence, the
distinctively visual provides an insightful image into Lola s experiences placed under seize by the
adamant nature of time.
Interestingly, visual techniques are also effective in portraying the theme of free will versus
determinism to question the responder who and what controls our lives. The tripartite storytelling
structure incorporating three wholly, self contained alternate versions of events is an unconventional
filming technique reinforcing the postmodernist perception of having minimal control over life. As
Lola rushes past minor characters in the film, flash forwards offer alternate glimpses of the possible
outcome of their future, suggesting that fee will alone is not a sole determination of the outcome of
life. In each run, Lola s encounter with these minor characters varies, showing that even the slightest
change can become a significant impact to life. An extreme close up

Origins of the Islamic Religion in the United States Essay
Origins of the Islamic Religion in the United States
The beginning of Islam in the United States can be traced to the earliest days of the slave trade. While
many of the slaves brought to America practiced traditional African religions, many of the slaves from
West Africa were predominately Muslim. In fact a significant number of black Africans brought to
North America during the slave trade were Muslim. Due to the overwhelming Christian presence
during the slave trade, slaves were not allowed to practice their Muslim faith. The Christian slave
owners attempted to force their slaves to convert to Christianity. They were not as successful as they
deemed. The muslims continued to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Koran and the Sunna cover many things that Muslims must go by. Some examples are: diet,
marriage, and even the proper way to clean one s teeth. There are two different groups of Muslims, the
Shiites, and the Sunni. The Shiites are those who support the decedents of Muhhamad as their rightful
successors. The Sunni believed that the elections of the first three caliphs were valid. There are five
specific rituals that Muslims must follow. These rituals are known as the five pillars of Islam. These
rituals are as follows:
1) Profession of faith. There is no god but Allah, and Muhhamad is his prophet.
2) Prayer. Muslims must pray five times a day. When they pray, they must pray towards Mecca, the
holy city.
3) Charity to the poor. Muslims must contribute to public charities.
4) Ritual fast during Ramadan. Muslims cannot eat from the break of day until the setting of the sun.
5) The pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims must make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca at one time in their
lives.
These are the five rituals that Muslims went by and they did so successfully.
Islam is a way of life, as well as a religion. Those who follow Islam are very dedicated, for they live
their whole life submitting themselves to Allah. As a matter of fact, the word Islam means submission
to Allah. In the United States today, Islam is a highly accepted religion in the African American
community. Since the beginning of the American slave trade, Islam has had a

A New Light On Central Themes
Life is undoubtedly richer for the human contact we share, as most of us actively seek human
companionship or relationships. Social isolation, the distancing of the individual, entirely alters an
individual s perceptions and thought processes and produces unperceivable effects. On numerous
occasions, it appears as if we have refuted John Donne and become individual islands, gradually
drifting towards the existential view that humans are ultimately alone. Mary Shelley, in Frankenstein,
and Daniel Defoe, in Robinson Crusoe, both apply isolation and extreme loneliness to characters
whom appear to be rather insignificant, however, in actuality these characters profoundly buttress the
authors reasoning and explanations. Such characters that may be superficially viewed as unimportant
play pivotal roles in the development of other characters and, more often than not, shed a new light on
central themes. Both Shelley and Dewey fabricate seemingly insignificant characters that experience
prolonged periods of extreme loneliness and isolation, and these characters prove essential to the
development of the protagonists as well as to a greater understanding of the novels. Poll, the parrot in
Robinson Crusoe, and Robert Walton, in Frankenstein, further illuminate the theme of isolation in the
novels by fueling the development of other characters. Poll plays an instrumental role in revealing
Crusoe s loneliness and the effects of Crusoe s isolation. Crusoe s sad lack of human contact in

Fracking Industry Analysis
Over one and a half million people have watched the video where the family holds a match under their

professionals have and provided their insight into the fracking process. Professionals such as Fred

Ocean Acidification In Crabs
ct Red king crab range from locations off the coast of Alaska, to Koreas pacific ring, to northern
British Columbia. Long s (2013) paper focused on populations in the Bering Sea, Alaska; this crab
species are economically important for fisheries. Ocean acidification is increasing surface pH levels,
due to the increased exploitation of nonrenewable resources by humans. The focus of the study was to
determine how ocean acidification would affect embryo development and larval release time, larval
survivorship, and the carryover effects from one life history stage to another. To create acidified
conditions they used CO2, which changed the pH of the seawater to 7.7. The results showed in
acidified conditions increased deposition of calcium, morphometric ... Show more content on

Figure 2 demonstrates the measurements from the digital images taken of larvae. This allows us to
measure from the same locations on the larvae, using this we can compare data to Long et al paper.
The first table showed the average water parameters between acidified and control samples, with the
corresponding standard errors. Four of the parameters had the same units (HCO3 , DIC, alkalinity, and
CO32 ), a good visual way to show the difference between them would be to plot these four
parameters on a scatter graph. Table 2 had a lot of data contained in it this made it a little
overwhelming trying to figure out what the data meant. The authors in figure 3 showed a bar chart
describing PC1 for the differences in acidified and control conditions, for both March and February.
Long et al., did not go into detail about PC3, although, another bar chart for PC2 depicting treatment
and months could have improved the paper. For female calcification and survival (figure 4) three bar
graphs were plotted; with embryonic treatment on the x axis using subcategories March, February,
exuvia, and new shell; the y axis were Mg/Ca ratio, %Mg (dry mass), and %Ca (dry mass). They used
mostly bar graphs to visualize data, this is very repetitive and I think a more diverse group of graphs

Enzyme Catalysts, Questions And Answers
A.
1. Describe two important features that make all enzymes catalysts.
In biological reactions, enzymes function as catalysts to speed up the rate of chemical reactions by
lowering the activation energy without being consumed.
4. Explain the reactions catalyzed by enzymes in the first two steps of fructose metabolism in the liver,
including each of the following:
● The substrates acted on
● The enzyme catalysts
● The products generated
Fructose enters the metabolic pathway by first being phosphorylated which means the addition of a
phosphate group. The enzyme responsible for this is fructokinase which is found in the liver. This
reaction forms fructose 1 phosphate. Fructose 1 phosphate must be broken down by a second enzyme

Pyruvate dehydrogenase catalyzes pyruvate to form acetyl CoA which is the fuel for the citric acid
cycle. A defect in this enzyme would essentially stop the citric acid cycle from working as it is the
starting point of the entire thing. NADH and FADH2 would not be produced which would also stop
the electron transport chain. The electronic transport chain is where oxidative phosphorylation occurs.
Without NADH and FADH2 being produced, enzymes in the mitochondria would not be able to use
NADH to add H to O2, the process in which phosphate is added to ADP to make ATP. Overall,
without pyruvate dehydrogenase, there is no citric acid cycle, no NADH and FADH2, no electron

Reflection On The Spartan Pre-Race
This was my third year in a row running this Spartan venue Super and unfortunately I was under the
weather dealing with a both a cough and sinus infection. I arrived the night before and slept in my car
and I could hear it pouring rain all night so I knew the course was going to be very muddy and
slippery on at least Saturday.
Pre race MC:
The pre race MC both days was nothing special to write home about, he injected a littler of his humor
to his speech, but it was pretty much the standard Spartan pre race speech that I have heard well over

designer/director Dan Luzzi is designing the course, but I have to admit, I really hope Spartan goes
back to the drawing board prior to 2017 and adds several new and unique obstacles.
The course was very challenging, the trails were awesome and Norm and his team clearly worked hard

Argumentative Essay On Foreign Aid
Introduction
Most people feel obligated to assist others in need. In major crises like natural disasters, wars, medical
outbreaks, and the struggling economies of the developing world, many citizens of developed
countries believe it is morally right to provide assistance in situations like these, in response to being
more fortunate. However according to Mark Goldberg, an editor of the United Nations and global
affairs blog UN Dispatch and host of the Global Dispatches Podcast, discusses the truth behind
foreign aid. He reveals that foreign support is an issue that is widely misunderstood by the general
public, and is one of the most complicated subjects. Foreign policy has been under a huge debate and
there is an obvious need for reformation, for it lacks clear leadership and strategic planning. In fact
political leaders are very skeptic about foreign policy, and often find ways to push it back. What the
citizens of first world should be inquiring, is foreign aid actually what we think it is, or are the internal
reasons of the politics reshaping its truth?
History of foreign aid, why is it what it is
Imperialism is policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military
force. During the 19th century when countries like Germany, France, and Britain were providing
regular welfare assistance to their colonies in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The support was used to

Samalan Christmas Religion
In Spain, Samana Santa is the most spectacular one week celebration of Easter that I have ever seen. It
is a week of celebration leading to Easter weekend. Although it is celebrated all over the Spain, the
one in Seville is one of the most elaborate ones. It is very normal to experience cultural shock when
living in a different country, but during this week, I experienced one of the greatest cultural shocks.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed the processions and learning about the history and the reasoning
behind them, I was shocked to see the costumes of the people who took part in the religious
processions. Samana Santa, known as the Holy Week in English, consists of religious processions
every day. It is a time when the devotees recognize and repent for their wrongdoings, reflecting the
fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them. People from various brotherhoods called the
cofradias, participate in the processions. In Seville, there are 55 ... Show more content on

After researching and talking to the Sevillanos, I found that the Nazarenos have been dressing like this
for more than 500 years, which is well before KKK originated. There is no defined link between the
two, but there is a possibility that one of the KKK members must have witnessed the Samana Santa
parade and gotten inspired by their costume. Unlike KKK, there is a very religious reason behind why
the Nazarenos dress up like that. Walking for about eight hours in the burning sun, while wearing that
costume is a sign of penance. They cover their faces in mourning and as a sign that they are shameful
for the sins that they have committed. On the morning of Easter Sunday, they remove their head

Aldo Leopold s book Sound County Almanac inspired a new approach to the environment and an
interest in ecology as a science, the book calls for a new approach to the environment. In it he writes a
thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the bionic community, it is
wrong when it tends otherwise this means that when the earth becomes a thing which is manipulated
to the advantage of humans then it is wrong. Aarne Naess wrote the book The Shallow and the Deep,
Long Range Ecology Movement where he states that there are two ecology movements, the first being
concerned with pollution, the depletion of natural resources, and usefulness of Earth for Humans and
the second concerned with the richness, diversity and intrinsic value of all the natural world this being
deep ecology. This movement maintains that animals and aspects of the natural world have rights.
Everything is seen as an integral part of a complex system which needs to be respected. We have a
personal, moral responsibility to preserve it. Naess rejected the idea that humans are more important
because they have a soul, the use of reason or a consciousness, he said that humans are simply a part
of nature and all species have a right to exist for their own sake. He opposes the view of stewardship
and sees it as arrogant and dependent on the idea of superiority, which underlies the thought that

Analysis Of Midaq Alley
Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary
piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development of
Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important message
of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development of her
rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the idea of
modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a major role in
portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. As Midaq Alley is a translated book from Arabic to

The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity (Mahfouz,1) indicating
that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in it is restricted to only the people of the alley
showing how the topographical trap also relates to the social entrapment that the alley is facing. With
no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no one, not even Hamida, can
escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression propagated by the alleys rejection
to modern values. This is further shown by the description of the atmosphere of the alley when it is
described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow. (Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown,
indicating visual imagery, shows the negative claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs
through the alley. The color brown is a color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and
positivity, respectively. However, the color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore
symbolizing negativity of the alley as it was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with
gloominess and pessimism. The alley is also described as having a distinctive life of its own
(Mahfouz,1) proving once again that the alley and the people within it are limited between the
boundaries of the alley and their life only consists of the people within the alley with no

it and kill everyone in the museum. We had met up with J.D. Grissom in the sculpture garden where
the main party was being held and warned him of the upcoming threat. He didn t seem to believe us at

gotten to his main head, while others were fighting other parts of him deep in the Duat. Along with us,
Zia who was hosting the sun god Ra was shooting fire balls at Apophis. It was a crazy mess

chaos burrowing into my bones, and killing me from the inside out. For a split second, Zia got

Instantly the Sun disappeared and everything got really dark and cold. The only thing illuminating the
area was the red glow of Apophis. Seeing Zia swallowed down by Apophis filled me with so much
anger, I blacked out. Sadie says that I lashed out with the crook and flail, leaving wounds that didn t

across him, oozing the blood of chaos. Then Sadie and I cast the shadow execration and banished him

The Trojan Women
Euripides: Past Time Activist for Women In The Trojan Women, there are four enduring women who
dominate the play and only two men who say anything at all. Moving us with their rants and dramatic
reactions, these women engulf the audience in overwhelming grief and irresistible pride. Euripides
emphasizes these four women to help us understand one of his main themes. Hecuba with her pride,
Cassandra with her virginity and uncanny wisdom, Andromache with her misery and heartache, and
Helen with her powerful, seductive reasoning all represent superior illustrations of feminism
throughout the play.
The first woman introduced is Hecuba, who grieves for her family, people, and ravaged homeland.

While frantically celebrating her appalling marriage to King Agamemnon, giving praise to Hymen, the
god of marriage, she says, O Mother, crown my triumph with a wreath (I, i, 361). Here she does not
show signs of terrible heartache about being sent to a bridal bed that will ruin her life s work and
sacrifice her virginity. Until she begins to tell her mother how she will try to take revenge for her
family does she show pain by saying, I shall kill [Agamemnon] mother, lay his house as low as he laid
ours, make him pay for all he made my father suffer, brothers . . . (I, i, 367 369). Raving, she
prophecies, If Apollo lives, my marriage will be bloodier than Helen s, and in time we see that she is
right with the fall of Greece (I, i, 364 365). She also makes an interesting point on the defeat of Troy.
She explains that the Greeks are just there to fight and conquer, and that their families are not there to
soften their hearts. The Trojans fight as a family for their people. The Trojans have lost, but they died
with great honor trying to save and protect their country and kinsmen. Cassandra refers to those
soldiers, her family, who fought with a final divination, Brothers, in Troy s earth laid, my father, a
little time and I am with you. You dead, I shall come to you a victor. Those ruined by my hand who
ruined us (I, i, 469 472). Even though she is portrayed as mad, the evidence of her wisdom, whether it
be given to her by the god she has devoted her life, or just insane predictions, shows us that women
could be intelligent and know of things to come just as men. Giving us our second example of
feminism, Cassandra shows her intellect equivalent to

Analysis Of Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing
The art of storytelling is a primary foundation for human communication and understanding. Whether
it is through myths Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick or wives tales or even Grandpa telling his old
war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+ years, there are
multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has the power to not
only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and manipulate the power of
the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of storytelling: location, voice,
color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically different films out of the same
story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement, have taken Hollywood by storm.
There are many individuals that believe the feminist movement is a woman s movement to further the

As I just stated, I have spent the majority of this paper discussing women in film; why I think all of
this leads well into the analysis of this film is because feminism forgot/didn t include African

against; in the way that Johnston, Haskell, Rosen, Williams, etc., all discuss what it was to be a
woman in Hollywood, omitting the way African American s were also poorly treated and often
vilified, the Caucasian suppressors in this film forget about the success of the Civil Rights movement
in the 1960s. It is 1989 and they are still be oppressed. African American s are free, to an extent. In the

Intellectual Property and Economy
Intellectual property is the main elements for economic growth and national competitiveness.
President Obama mentioned that the United States of America must support intellectual property
rights to be successful in an increasingly competitive international market which help the American
people to meet their goals. It clearly shows that supporting of intellectual property by government
completely related to economy because it has a direct relationship with innovation which is the main
buddy in economy, and its benefits will effect to every single industries. In addition, Intellectual
property is not just the final product of workers and companies but also it has positive effects to
innovation of products, supplies, and commercial activities (U.S. Patent and Tred mark office 2012).
Moreover, Intellectual property needs to be supported by government because it is the most important
keys in creating new jobs. According to U.S. Patent and Tred mark office (2012) the number of direct
and indirect employment in technology industry are related to supporting of intellectual property right.
Direct employment in related to Intellectual Property in technology industries was 27.1 million jobs in
2010 and indirect activities associated with these industries provided was 12.9 million jobs throughout
the economy in 2010. It

The Curse Of Sleeping Beauty
Picked mostly on a whim, I was kind of excited to watch this to trash talk it as what reviews I had seen
weren t very kind. But The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is actually really watchable. Of course it isn t
great, but it s certainly not the train wreck I was led to believe. Parts were actually scary, with a bit of
a silent hill vibe to them and while the ending is more than a little on the predictable side of things.
That in no way hampers the enjoy ability of watching it all play out.
Thomas Kaiser (Ethan Peck) is an artist and a recluse with few friends. Since childhood he has had a
reccurring dream with a sleeping woman, Briar Rose (India Eisley). Though he always awakens

Though I have a feeling that was kind of the point of the performance, it just doesn t play that well of

right up until twist at the end when she actually does a fair amount of shinning.
My one of my two issue s with The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is that it s a bit to slow to get going.
Though once it got going it was great. My other being the predictability of what s going to happen.
Maybe I m just jaded from seeing to many horror films over the years, but I saw the twist from about
the thirty minute mark.
Final thoughts, overall I really liked it. Was it a masterpiece? No, of course not as few films are. But it
was entertaining and I don t consider watching a complete waste of time. The visuals are nice, the
pacing is solid and it has a great dread location that is dripping with atmosphere. Would I recommend
it? Yes, I just recommend going into with an open mind and a six pack.

  • 2. Reflection On Gender And Socialization Gender socialization is defined as the process in which people learn to behave according to stereotypical gender roles (Iwamoto, 2017). In my own life, gender socialization caused me to modify my actions, behaviors, and relationships. Furthermore, although I have learned that these stereotypes come from a place of generalization, and do not need to be endorsed, gender socialization still impacts me even throughout my adult life. Because my parents are both immigrants from Bangladesh, most of the gender roles I was exposed to as a child came from my family. One of the most prevalent aspects of my family, and my overall culture, is arranged marriage. Both my mom and grandma experienced an arranged marriage, and because I lived with both these women as a child, they were constantly preparing me for my own future arranged marriage. They taught me how to make tea for guests, how to cook traditional Bengali food, and how to clean the house, all before I turned 10 years old. Whenever I wanted to do something that went against what it meant to be a proper young girl, such as play with my younger brothers outside or skip making tea one time, I heard the words, No one will marry you if you act like this. When I was about 11 years old, I was sick of hearing that, so I screamed at my mom, telling her that maybe I don t want to get married. I remember the look of shock on her face so clearly, even close to a decade later. Her next words were, Well, the only other thing you can do is become a nun. Being told from such a young age that I only had two choices in my life, get married or become a nun caused me to feel continuously angry, especially at my family. I thought that nothing I did ever mattered as long as I did not find a husband, have children, and spend the rest of my life taking care of them. In this case, the specific multidimensional feminine norms I was taught to endorse were the domestic norm, which mean that women are taught to be neat and clean, the care for children norm, which mean that women are taught they should want children, and the romantic relationship norm, which mean that women are taught that relationships are needed in life (Iwamoto, 2017). Furthermore, although in Bengali culture it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Psychological Effects Of Marijuana Essay For this paper I chose the topic of Marijuana. Marijuana is the crumbled parts of the Marijuana plant. The origin of Marijuana was written in the writing of the Chinese emperor Shen Nung. At this point in time 2737 B.C. it was used as a form of medicine until it spread to India where it was used recreationally. The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 classified marijuana along with heroin and LSD as a Schedule I drug, i.e., having the relatively highest abuse potential and no accepted medical use (Marijuana History. (n.d.)). This substance has been used in many different ways over the years. Medical Marijuana can be ingested by smoking it (pipe, rolling into a joint or cigarette, or by using a bong), vaporizing it, eating it, using it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When using the substance, it triggers these brain receptors which in turn triggers the effects that you get using the substance. Some of the effects that come with this are mild euphoria, alterations in vision and judgment result in distortions of time and space, acute intoxication that may occasionally induce visual hallucinations, anxiety, depression, extreme variability of mood, paranoid reactions, and psychoses lasting from four to six hours. Physical effects include reddening of the eyes, dryness of the mouth and throat, moderate increase in the rapidity of the heartbeat, tightness of the chest (if the drug is smoked), drowsiness, unsteadiness, and muscular incoordination (Pharmacology of Marijuana MassCann/NORML. (n.d.)). The brain does produce a TCH like substance that gives off a natural high without using any drugs whatsoever. But when using the substance this increases the THC levels in your body with overall gives you a chemically induced high. Using this substance often would be considered as chronic use. When using Marijuana daily it can effect your memory but it is because TCH stays in the body up to 48 hours after using the substance (Pharmacology of Marijuana MassCann/NORML. (n.d.)) , so if you do use it everyday you will eventually lose brain cells that ties to memory. Also there is evidence that the THC content of some strains of marijuana being sold today might be as high as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Second World War Essay Second World War My generation has already witnessed a day of infamy, less than two short years ago (or so CNN tells us). My grandfather would remember a different day, a morning marked by another surprise attack on America. That ambush, said Japanese General Yamamoto, awakened a sleeping giant. Analysis of American foreign policy begs the question: what if the giant had spurned its peaceful slumber? Instead, the behemoth could have chosen to lumber about. Odds are that the footsteps would not have fallen lightly, the reverberations spreading across the globe all this, only had Wilsonians been at the helm of American foreign policy. The Jacksonian tradition steered the United States to victory in the Second World War. Once lulled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jacksonians value self reliance, equality, individualism, financial freedom, and courage. They cling doggedly to these pillars of their creed, but reject their universalist application beyond American borders. Jacksonians care about their neighbors, their countrymen. Their distaste for international affairs is apparent: the absolute and even brutal distinction drawn between the members of the community and outsiders has had massive implications in American life (14). This patriotic sentiment, deeply imbedded in the American middle class, demands of its government officials a domestic focus instead of worldwide support of moral values (15), as Wilsonians advocate. The Jacksonian defense policy, the fundamental cornerstone of the doctrine, has played a fundamental role in making the United States a superpower. Today, witty Swarthmore students poke fun at George Bush: George, the gun slinging cowboy holding the smoking barrel. What they fail to understand, however, is that the object of their mockery albeit distorted with their sarcasm has earned their country a pre eminent position in world politics. It is time they recognize the mentality which fueled the mercurial rise of their country: Jacksonians see the Second Amendments, the right to bear arms, as the citadel of liberty...The right of the citizen to defend family and property with deadly force is a sacred one (8, 14). ... • 5. Maggi Case Study Introduction: #MaggiInASoup For nearly three decades, Nestle s Maggi noodles was the ultimate success story: an unlikely product embraced wholeheartedly by a difficult market. Over the last few weeks, it s become a case study of an entirely different sort a textbook example of how not to handle a crisis. According to the World Instant Noodles Association, India consumed 5,340 million cups or bags of instant noodles through 2014. It counts among the fastest growing markets in the world for the snack, having almost doubled in size since 2010 when it accounted for 2,940 million units. Maggi is estimated to have a 70 per cent share of the market, and contributes nearly 30 per cent to Nestle s Rs 9000 crore annual turnover. While starting off life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where did it go wrong? A common complaint is how clinical Nestle s reaction has been. While the brand ambassadors are obviously scared of talking given the possibility of being dragged into a legal imbroglio, there s literally no face to the campaign at the time of going to print. Sourav Ray, chief strategy officer, Havas observes, I would have expected the leadership team to have come out and taken ownership of this problem. Communication strategy of Nestle was quite ineffective in the wake of the disaster as the authorities and the Headquarters took a long time in responding to the claims of Nestle being pulled off the shelves. If the strategy would have been clear the media fiasco Nestle got embroiled into could have been easily avoided. Recommendations Nestle should take cue from Cadbury and cola giants who have had troubles of their own in the Indian market but with clear communication strategy were able to get themselves back on their feet and their cases may still remain only for academic ... • 6. Compare And Contrast The Interlopers And To Build A Fire Many different stories have many similarities and differences, this is what brings two stories together or splits them apart. The interlopers and To build a fire have many different similarities with a few differences here and there. The interlopers is about two men with a bad past through family generations. The Von Gradwitz family and the Znaeym family has had feuds through their families for the past three generations over a bit of land and who the ownership belonged to. Both men were traveling through the woods when nature decided now would be a good time to be against them. A storm occurred striking a tree in the process trapping the two men when it had fallen. Throughout the story the two men argue, come up with a survival plan, and make amends, but sadly doesn t make it when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Interlopers the man changed by forgiving and becoming friends with his enemy, which showed that he changed as a person and chose to be the bigger person. In To build a fire the man didn t change and was still naive when he went out into Alaska by himself and chose not to take anyone with him. This showed that he wanted to do things himself while the character in The Interlopers decided to ask for forgiveness so that his men could help the other man also. Along with this both stories had strong characters, the interlopers had a man who did everything he could to survive the freezing weather, even if that meant putting the dog s life before his, and in To build a fire the man went over his own ego to make friends with his enemy to try to survive but sadly didn t. • 7. The Role Of Women And Their Influence On The War Nevertheless, another vital component in The Iliad is the role of women and their influence on the war and their association with different characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, disputes that ladies had some freedom and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar inscribes: In the Homeric epics, women seem to have little independence; they were always under the guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503). (The Iliad I.13 14, 22 23,25 30 32). After the confrontation between Agamemnon and Chyrses, Agamemnon requests for another war prize as Lefkowitz says, The priest prays to Apollo, reminds the god of his services to him, and the gods the plague on the Greeks, so that Agamemnon is forced to return Chryseis, and as a result demands that the Greek give him another prize. (Lefkowitz 504). This causes Agamemnon to demand Achilles prize Briseis although she did not want to leave Achilles. At last a quarrel over a woman grounds Achilles to not battle for the Achaeans bringing deaths and setbacks in the war. This demonstrates women assumed a critical part in the poem. In comparison to Lefkowitz, Homer mentions in Book one of The Iliad that women are seen as property and objects for pleasure. Women are identified and used as items such as sex slaves. King Agamemnon stresses the soldiers to proceed apprehending Briseis by exclaiming; Go to Achilles lodge. Take Brises at once, his beauty Brises by the hand and bring her here. But if he will not surrender her, I ll go myself. I ll seize her myself, with an army at my back and all the worse for him! Patroclus obeyed his great friend s command. Why Is Barry Minkow Unethical After reading the case, it was truly fascinating how a very young man, Barry Minkow, could pull off such a huge fraud and how greed and audaciousness can make someone become so unethical. • 11. A Brief Note On Poverty And Its Effects On The United States 2. Poverty In 2013 more than half of the Honduran population lived below the poverty line, with six out of ten rural families living in extreme poverty. Honduras also ranked among the most unequal countries in the region, and its middle class was among the smallest in LAC. Low levels of economic inclusion, limited social mobility, and the extreme vulnerability of lower income households to a wide range of shocks have made poverty in Honduras especially deep and intractable. Over the past 15 years more and more Hondurans have left the country to seek opportunities abroad, particularly in the US, and due to years of large scale migration Honduras now has one of the world s highest levels of remittances as a share of GDP. Although remittances have enormous potential to reduce poverty and increase incomes among households in the lower 40 percent of the income distribution, emerging evidence suggests that they may also be causing Dutch Disease effects, as well as draining the country s human capital stock and potentially discouraging labor force participation among domestic workers. These dynamics have had significant effects on poverty trends. Remittances, together with labor income and employment, have been the main drivers of shifting poverty levels over the last decade. Cash transfers have had a positive impact on extreme poverty and social indicators, but their scope is very limited compared with similar programs elsewhere in the region. Esposito echos the purpose of The Declaration of Independence(DOI)in this new era and how it should be implemented in a modern government. The DOI is the most influential piece of writing that has ever come to be. It served it s purpose in 1777 by uniting the colonists against Great Britain in a bold declaration of independence. This persuasive essay was written by Thomas Jefferson and edited by important figures, which are now known as the founding fathers. Not only, is the DOI an important part of history, but it has also become the model for many other persuasive writings. Thomas Jefferson used techniques like siding with the acrimonious reader, considering the historical precedent and the conceding of a point, to create a compelling argument to persuade the reader s of The Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson used persuasion with the acrimonious reader by siding and understanding the opposing view of The Declaration of Independence. To comprehend why this technique was so effective, there should be an understanding of what is meant by an acrimonious reader. An acrimonious reader is one who will not agree with the author s writing. Jefferson reaches the acrimonious reader by siding, with the purpose to, declare the causes which impel them to the separation. Jefferson wants the disagreeing side to question their opposing beliefs, all this by presenting evidence, which is unarguable and cannot be set aside. Essentially, it become a demonstration that the author is considering the opposing view and understands that the opposite is a valid argument. If I am charged with microscopic views, I shall treat the charge as captious, unless its author is able to show, that a different lens would lead to different conclusions. (Droit and Richard) Both Droit and Seldon, when criticising the DOI, understood that there must be an understanding of the arguments of both sides in order for persuasion to take place. If a writer s argument is one sided, then it becomes impossible to hook the acrimonious reader, who serves as the target for persuasion. Persuasion only works if the reader keeps reading, ... • 22. A New Light On Central Themes Life is undoubtedly richer for the human contact we share, as most of us actively seek human companionship or relationships. Social isolation, the distancing of the individual, entirely alters an individual s perceptions and thought processes and produces unperceivable effects. On numerous occasions, it appears as if we have refuted John Donne and become individual islands, gradually drifting towards the existential view that humans are ultimately alone. Mary Shelley, in Frankenstein, and Daniel Defoe, in Robinson Crusoe, both apply isolation and extreme loneliness to characters whom appear to be rather insignificant, however, in actuality these characters profoundly buttress the authors reasoning and explanations. Such characters that may be superficially viewed as unimportant play pivotal roles in the development of other characters and, more often than not, shed a new light on central themes. Both Shelley and Dewey fabricate seemingly insignificant characters that experience prolonged periods of extreme loneliness and isolation, and these characters prove essential to the development of the protagonists as well as to a greater understanding of the novels. The course was very challenging, the trails were awesome and Norm and his team clearly worked hard to design it, the weather went from being from very warm to borderline cold and for some miserable, which only made for a more challenging race weekend, the bling is what it is and I am always happy to add more Spartan bling to my collection, the MC was average at best, but I am not sure I can blame the MC for that, the staff and volunteers where awesome and smiles all weekend under not so perfect conditions. I am rating this course/event a 5 out of 5 stars based on giving Norm and his team additional points for the hard work they clearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Argumentative Essay On Foreign Aid Introduction Most people feel obligated to assist others in need. In major crises like natural disasters, wars, medical outbreaks, and the struggling economies of the developing world, many citizens of developed countries believe it is morally right to provide assistance in situations like these, in response to being more fortunate. However according to Mark Goldberg, an editor of the United Nations and global affairs blog UN Dispatch and host of the Global Dispatches Podcast, discusses the truth behind foreign aid. He reveals that foreign support is an issue that is widely misunderstood by the general public, and is one of the most complicated subjects. Foreign policy has been under a huge debate and there is an obvious need for reformation, for it lacks clear leadership and strategic planning. In fact political leaders are very skeptic about foreign policy, and often find ways to push it back. What the citizens of first world should be inquiring, is foreign aid actually what we think it is, or are the internal reasons of the politics reshaping its truth? History of foreign aid, why is it what it is Imperialism is policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. • 29. Samalan Christmas Religion In Spain, Samana Santa is the most spectacular one week celebration of Easter that I have ever seen. It is a week of celebration leading to Easter weekend. Although it is celebrated all over the Spain, the one in Seville is one of the most elaborate ones. It is very normal to experience cultural shock when living in a different country, but during this week, I experienced one of the greatest cultural shocks. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the processions and learning about the history and the reasoning behind them, I was shocked to see the costumes of the people who took part in the religious processions. Samana Santa, known as the Holy Week in English, consists of religious processions every day. It is a time when the devotees recognize and repent for their wrongdoings, reflecting the fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them. People from various brotherhoods called the cofradias, participate in the processions. In Seville, there are 55 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After researching and talking to the Sevillanos, I found that the Nazarenos have been dressing like this for more than 500 years, which is well before KKK originated. There is no defined link between the two, but there is a possibility that one of the KKK members must have witnessed the Samana Santa parade and gotten inspired by their costume. Unlike KKK, there is a very religious reason behind why the Nazarenos dress up like that. Walking for about eight hours in the burning sun, while wearing that costume is a sign of penance. They cover their faces in mourning and as a sign that they are shameful for the sins that they have committed. On the morning of Easter Sunday, they remove their head covers to mark the end of the mourning. After learning about the reason behind this costume and the tradition associated with it, I think it is shame to associate this sacred event with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aldo Leopold s book Sound County Almanac inspired a new approach to the environment and an interest in ecology as a science, the book calls for a new approach to the environment. In it he writes a thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the bionic community, it is wrong when it tends otherwise this means that when the earth becomes a thing which is manipulated to the advantage of humans then it is wrong. Aarne Naess wrote the book The Shallow and the Deep, Long Range Ecology Movement where he states that there are two ecology movements, the first being concerned with pollution, the depletion of natural resources, and usefulness of Earth for Humans and the second concerned with the richness, diversity and intrinsic value of all the natural world this being deep ecology. This movement maintains that animals and aspects of the natural world have rights. Everything is seen as an integral part of a complex system which needs to be respected. We have a personal, moral responsibility to preserve it. Naess rejected the idea that humans are more important because they have a soul, the use of reason or a consciousness, he said that humans are simply a part of nature and all species have a right to exist for their own sake. He opposes the view of stewardship and sees it as arrogant and dependent on the idea of superiority, which underlies the thought that humans exist to watch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Analysis Of Midaq Alley Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development of Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important message of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development of her rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity (Mahfouz,1) indicating that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in it is restricted to only the people of the alley showing how the topographical trap also relates to the social entrapment that the alley is facing. With no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no one, not even Hamida, can escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression propagated by the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow. (Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows the negative claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley. The color brown is a color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and positivity, respectively. However, the color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. The alley is also described as having a distinctive life of its own (Mahfouz,1) proving once again that the alley and the people within it are limited between the boundaries of the alley and their life only consists of the people within the alley with no ... Yesterday we went to the Fifty first Nome in Texas, to attend the Dallas Museum of Art s party that was held by J.D. Grissom, the leader of the Fifty first Nome. We had gone to warn him about the lord of chaos, Apophis, and how he planned to find an artifact, destroy it and kill everyone in the museum. We had met up with J.D. Grissom in the sculpture garden where the main party was being held and warned him of the upcoming threat. We had eventually gotten to his main head, while others were fighting other parts of him deep in the Duat. Along with us, Zia who was hosting the sun god Ra was shooting fire balls at Apophis. It was a crazy mess everywhere. Apophis had two heads and three tails, but only one of each was real. I could feel the pure chaos burrowing into my bones, and killing me from the inside out. For a split second, Zia got distracted, and just as the ancient Egyptians had prophesied, Apophis swallowed Ra and Zia whole. Instantly the Sun disappeared and everything got really dark and cold. The only thing illuminating the area was the red glow of Apophis. Seeing Zia swallowed down by Apophis filled me with so much anger, I blacked out. Sadie says that I lashed out with the crook and flail, leaving wounds that didn t heal. I don t remember any of that. • 33. The Trojan Women Euripides: Past Time Activist for Women In The Trojan Women, there are four enduring women who dominate the play and only two men who say anything at all. Moving us with their rants and dramatic reactions, these women engulf the audience in overwhelming grief and irresistible pride. Euripides emphasizes these four women to help us understand one of his main themes. Hecuba with her pride, Cassandra with her virginity and uncanny wisdom, Andromache with her misery and heartache, and Helen with her powerful, seductive reasoning all represent superior illustrations of feminism throughout the play. Until she begins to tell her mother how she will try to take revenge for her family does she show pain by saying, I shall kill [Agamemnon] mother, lay his house as low as he laid ours, make him pay for all he made my father suffer, brothers . . . (I, i, 367 369). Raving, she prophecies, If Apollo lives, my marriage will be bloodier than Helen s, and in time we see that she is right with the fall of Greece (I, i, 364 365). She also makes an interesting point on the defeat of Troy. She explains that the Greeks are just there to fight and conquer, and that their families are not there to soften their hearts. The Trojans fight as a family for their people. The Trojans have lost, but they died with great honor trying to save and protect their country and kinsmen. Cassandra refers to those soldiers, her family, who fought with a final divination, Brothers, in Troy s earth laid, my father, a little time and I am with you. You dead, I shall come to you a victor. Those ruined by my hand who ruined us (I, i, 469 472). Even though she is portrayed as mad, the evidence of her wisdom, whether it be given to her by the god she has devoted her life, or just insane predictions, shows us that women could be intelligent and know of things to come just as men. • 34. Analysis Of Spike Lee s Do The Right Thing The art of storytelling is a primary foundation for human communication and understanding. Whether it is through myths Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick or wives tales or even Grandpa telling his old war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+ years, there are multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has the power to not only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and manipulate the power of the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of storytelling: location, voice, color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically different films out of the same story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement, have taken Hollywood by storm. But The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is actually really watchable. Of course it isn t great, but it s certainly not the train wreck I was led to believe. Parts were actually scary, with a bit of a silent hill vibe to them and while the ending is more than a little on the predictable side of things. That in no way hampers the enjoy ability of watching it all play out. Thomas Kaiser (Ethan Peck) is an artist and a recluse with few friends. My one of my two issue s with The Curse of Sleeping Beauty is that it s a bit to slow to get going. Though once it got going it was great. My other being the predictability of what s going to happen. Maybe I m just jaded from seeing to many horror films over the years, but I saw the twist from about the thirty minute mark. Final thoughts, overall I really liked it. Was it a masterpiece? No, of course not as few films are. But it was entertaining and I don t consider watching a complete waste of time.
