Bioterrorism with Smallpox Essay
Bioterrorism: Smallpox
Smallpox is a highly infectious and fatal disease caused by the Variola virus. It causes extremely
painful pustules to sprout across the entire body. Spread from human to human, it has since been
eradicated from the world through the efforts of the World Health Organization. However, there is a
distinct possibility that it may be reintroduced through bioterrorism. Biological weapons may cause
another pandemic to erupt across the world and kill millions of individuals. Through constant
vigilance and careful planning, mankind can prevent this scenario.
During the course of human history, pandemic diseases have threatened the balance of civilization
itself. Viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other infectious agents have ... Show more content on

It is stable outside the host, allowing it to infect large populations when aerosolized (Ryan 55). There
are four forms of smallpox caused by Variola major: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic (Ryan
57). The ordinary form is a typical case where pustules remain distinct from one another. The
modified form is one where the symptoms are less severe, usually due to vaccination. Flat smallpox is
a form where the pustules are almost always flush with the skin. These cases are highly fatal. The
hemorrhagic form causes bleeding under the skin, creating a black color. The victim usually dies
before pustules can form. Variola minor causes a fairly mild form of smallpox called alastrim, which
is rarely fatal. There is no cure for smallpox available, though antiviral drugs are being actively
developed by the various research institutions, including the National Institutes of Health. If the
individual is exposed to smallpox and has not developed symptoms, the vaccine may be administered
to decrease chance of contracting the disease and to decrease the severity of the infection (Ryan 57). A
1998 study by Dr. Huggins experimented with the use of cidofovir, a DNA polymerase inhibitor, as a
treatment option, but it has not been proven to be a more effective treatment than vaccination
(Henderson 7). However, HDP CDV, a derivative of cidofovir, has recently shown promise in treating

White Noise Satire
Don Delillo utilizes satire of the postmodern novel to critique issues which continue to plague
American society. Although Don Delillo s novel White Noise is complex and full of implicit meaning,
the protagonist Jack Gladney communicates the central idea of the narrative, All plots tend to move
deathward. This is the nature of plots (Delillo 26) . The novel does not take on a linear storyline for
most of the novel but there is more impact in its collection of vignettes. The majority of the novel
portrays Jack s daily routine which effectively illustrates the pervasive nature of the materialistic
society Delillo creates. The activities Jack s family engage in, from grocery shopping to family
dinners gives them the appearance that their thoughts and experiences are that of most families. ...

The Gladney s live in a world where simulations and images are substituted for the reality. This issue
is present in White Noise and Delillo uses it to bring attention to the blurring effect of materialistic
society on the border between reality and artificiality. This can be seen in his depiction of the German
language, the airborne toxic event, and Babbete s class. This issue continues to pervade American
society. It can be seen in the increasing popularity of virtual reality technology, historical
reenactments, and the power of branding. This suggests that the American culture is losing a value for
reality. These examples show how modern power structures are that of the consumer yielding to the

Ewaso Ng Iro Watershed
Ewaso Ng iro watershed is a catchment of water that stretches from the west side of Mount Kenya and
across seven arid to semi arid landscapes (Said et al. 13). The catchment is characterized by vastly
different physiographic features and species and has become a fundamental component to the survival
of the wildlife, as well as the expansion of human population and socio economic developments.
Water, the limited land resource provided by the Ewaso Ng iro watershed is unevenly distributed
throughout the higher and lower regions of the catchment due to the large percentage necessary to
maintain agricultural practices (Mutiga, Su, and Woldai 3). The ecosystems within the Ewaso Ng iro
watershed have been manipulated to such a degree that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

throughout the dry seasons (Mutiga, Su, and Woldai 102). Climate change is a major contributor to
such phenomenon, as the process of evapotranspiration has __________. Other changes such as
unreliable rainfall patterns and quantities and decreasing discharge during the low flow periods also
have significant impacts on all aspects of the Ewaso Ng iro watershed (Aeschbacher, Liniger and
Weingartner 155,156). The water catchment lies predominantly through arid to semi arid landscapes
where the annual levels of rainfall and precipitation have seemingly decreased over the years (Mutiga,
Su, and Woldai 102). As uneven water distribution has become a complex issue, the ability to support
the ecosystem s vegetation and wildlife will decrease, and human populations and developments will
faced with ongoing sustainability challenges.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY The Ewaso Ng iro watershed stretches over a diverse
variety of ecosystems from the high regions of Mount Kenya to the lower arid to semi arid regions of
land. Each ecosystem delivers a unique contribution to the land and people of Kenya as they interact
with one another to achieve a sustainable equilibrium. The wetland ecosystems which are located in

Christianity in William Blake s Works
Christianity in Blake Theology is actually one of the many topics that frequently appears in a variety
of work of English poet William Blake. A brief overview of some of the author s more noted works
such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , The Book of Thel , and Songs of Innocence and
Experience readily attest to this fact. In Songs of Innocence and Experience, however, a number of the
author s poems seem to integrate a decidedly Christian worldview within their text and the cosmology
presented to readers through these works. This proclivity of Blake s is particularly salient in The
Chimney Sweeper and The Lamb . In fact, one can argue that most of the fundamental beliefs that
Christianity is based upon are found within these poems, which serve as excellent examples of the
author s tendency to write poems that adhere to a decidedly Christian viewpoint. Thematically, each of
the aforementioned poems details some of the central precepts in Christianity. This point is made
abundantly clear when one analyzes The Chimney Sweeper , which connotes situations that are
analogous to the redeeming grace of Jesus whose presence and divinity the religion of Christianity is
based upon for sinners: which is implied by the dirt and soot that characterizes the young chimney
sweepers in this poem. Within this poetic work Blake makes allusions to the sacrament of baptism, in
which the redeemed chimney sweepers are primarily able to earn God s grace after they wash in a

Descriptive Essay About Life
The Transformation
Anywhere you go can create memories, but can also become a part of you in one way or another.
Some of those places may have had an impact on a person s life that changed him or her as a person.
For others, some places may have a special meaning, teaching, or maybe because the best memories
were made in that special place. For me, the best memories and the one place that I always remember
is Woodburn Oregon. This city has so many good, happy, and bad memories that I still remember.
These memories bring back my childhood and how my perspective of life changed. As a young child,
growing up in Woodburn Oregon during the summer, I learned to not only appreciate everything I
have, but to also work hard to be successful.
Woodburn is a very beautiful, happy, and peaceful city that is full of nature. The city is surrounded by
amazing trees, buildings, flowers, parks, and much more. The city also has great restaurants, theaters,
museums and arcades. Woodburn also has amazing views and has great agricultural lands filled with
flowers such as, colorful tulips, and roses. I remember going by a land filled with bright yellow and
red tulips. As I was passing by, I remember smelling the sweet smell of the flowers and the fresh air.
The cold winds would make the flowers move, letting the sweat fragrance out and making the air
smell good. Now everytime I see a tulip, it reminds me of the huge lands filled with tulips. Woodburn
is a place in which most of the time it

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lyndon B Johnson s We Shall Overcome
On the night of February 18, 1956, an African American man named Jimmy Jackson took place in a
peaceful march to protest discrimination, specifically in voting rights, in the United States. He and a
group of protesters were attacked by police that night, and the young activist s life was cut short when
he was shot in the stomach by a state trooper.1 This tragic tale was common during the Civil Rights
Movement, yet it was this specific story that sparked outrage in activists across the United States.
While there were many influential speeches given during the Civil Rights Movement, one could argue
that the We Shall Overcome2 speech is one of the most significant. This speech was addressed to
Congress and was given by the 36th United States President Lyndon B. Johnson on March 16, 1965.3
It is significant because it is credited with persuading Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act that gave

In his speech We Shall Overcome, Lyndon B. Johnson is able to effectively use rhetorical appeals to
persuade Congress to pass the Voting Rights Bill.
President Johnson establishes pathos through his use of rhetorical devices to show Congress that those
wanting the Voting Rights Bill can no longer wait, in order to persuade them to pass it swiftly. To
achieve this purpose, Johnson uses imagery to illustrate that if voting rights were to be withheld from
African Americans, there would be negative consequences. He explains that the . . . time of justice has

I can t believe I was stupid enough to throw a punch at a peacekeeper, and with the rest of the world
watching no less. I mean, she was just doing what she was supposed to do in that situation, and Misty

everyone told her she absolutely had to follow. Which means that it was Misty, and not the
peacekeeper, that was in the wrong, which made the way she responded perfectly reason.....You know
what, no.

Daniel Gardner and the Science of Fear
Anyone who saw it will never forget it. And almost everyone saw it. When the first jet darted out of
that crisp blue September sky and crashed into the World Trade Center, only a single television camera
captured the image. But as the tower burned, alerts flashed trough wires and airwaves. The world s
electronic eyes turned, opened, and waited. When the second plane streaked in, an immense audience
perhaps hundreds of millions saw the jet, the angry explosion, the gushing smoke, the glass and steel
raining down like confetti in a parade. They saw it live (Gardner, 2008). Nearly 3000 people were
killed during the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 and the coming months the media were filled
with interviews, profiles and terrible stories of loss. Fear of more terrorist attacks spread the nation. As
a reaction, the American population massively abandoned airports and chose to travel by car instead,
which had a great impact on the airline business. But what no one mentioned nor the media or
politicians is that air travel is dramatically safer than driving. The safety gap is so large, that planes
would still be safer than cars even if the threat of terrorism were unimaginably worse than it actually
is. According to research, 1595 people lost their lives because of the major shift from air travel to a
much less safe way of traveling: by car. That is six times as many as the people who where on board
of the doomed flights on September 11. So how come that people put

The Right Of Privacy And Protection From Government...
The right to privacy and protection from government abusing power has been a debatable topic for
centuries. Many American people struggled for years, arguing in courts, and proving their right to
privacy and protection. It is the fourth amendment that clearly states, The right of the people to be
secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall
not be violated ... So shouldn t the government refrain from violating this rule? Not according to the
FBI. In December 2015, the FBI recovered an iPhone (Apple Inc. cellphone product) at the crime
scene of a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. The iPhone was claim to belong to one of the
terrorists involved in the attack. The FBI has contacted Apple requesting that the company disables the
security feature on the iPhone they obtained at the crime scene. Apple declines the requests with the
thought of its customer s privacy in mind. Even though the FBI does have probably cause, forcing the
company to comply to their request will contradict Apple s privacy policies that are insured to their
customers. Should the government be allowed to force Apple to betray their customers?
As of March last year, an estimate total of 94 million iPhones was in use in the United States. That is
potentially more or less of 94 million Apples customers that could experience the effects over one
iPhone dispute. The problem with unlocking one iPhone isn t merely just a matter of broken

Government Control Is Power Essay
Control is Power How far can government control go? This question has been debated for centuries,
and even now it is not an easy question to answer. Society and technology are in a constant state of
upgrades and evolution from what it once was. With these new advancements in technology, new
dangers are also present. The question then asked is, how far should the government go in protecting
us? How far can government control of its people go? 1984 and Divergent show ways in how the
government can control people. It also shows how it can become invasive and can create a dystopia.
The main three ways the governments gain control in each story are social hierarchy, constant
monitoring, and brainwashing. These three ways show how a government can gain too much control
while using the excuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens two ways in both of the stories. In 1984 people are directly brainwashed. Their
subjugated citizens are programmed not only to accept if Big Brother says that 2 + 2 = 5, but also to
believe it. ( Fitzpatrick ). The readers can clearly see it happening to Winston when even he
acknowledges 2 + 2 = 5. The readers watch as Winston actually accepts his own brainwashing. 1984
also includes another form of brainwashing that is less direct. The masses of people are brainwashed
by thinking they are in a constant state of war. World powers become enemies and allies
interchangeably simply to keep the masses in perpetual fear, perpetual industry, and perpetual order. (
Fitzpatrick ). In Divergent the brainwashing is also indirect and direct. In the movie the Dauntless are
literally brainwashed and taken control of through a special chip implanted in them. Divergent also
shows indirect brainwashing through its faction system. By forcing people to be in a certain faction it
also forces those people to think a certain way. This restricts people s free thoughts and allows the
government full control much like the caste systems and

Refugees And Asylum Of Refugees
Hundreds of thousands of people every year are forced to leave their homes. Refugees are defined as
people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of
man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is
safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugee refers to a person or people who, outside their
country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for
fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A
common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek
asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the
notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II
(Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who
has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting
for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own
countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for
refugee status has been accepted. After their application is accepted, they are officially recognized as a
refugee. The right to determine whether or not a person is a refugee is not reserved

His rise in politics and higher echelons of power was due to his mysteriously sharp mind coupled with

Should Female Contruction Workers Earn the Same Wages as Male
Ever since women have been able to vote, there have been more rights for women everywhere in
America. Somehow in construction working, women get lower paid than men. Should they be paid the
same as men? The working area is the same, so why is it that women have lower payments because of
their gender? This should be a new rule, for women have the same exact rights as men. Everyone is
working the same, so why not? Finally, this can reduce women strikes.
Working class women internalize their own oppression. These women learn the stereotypes that define

Relationship Between Female And Female
Leading all the way from the seventeenth to nineteenth century, essentialism and determinism lead to
assumptions made by society, in which many of these assumptions are the gender roles women have
taken on, contracting those male take and stay away from due to reasoning behind human nature.
Outside the law courts, in gender relations, assumptions are often held as if there were an essentialist
nature distinguishing men and women and that they have separate needs based on their biology (30).
Meaning any distinguishes made between male and female are all treated as part of nature and they are
different in multiple aspects in society and how they act due to their differentiated biological makeup.
It is a reductionist way of thinking and explaining that females are meant to greatly differ from males
because that is just how nature has set it up and will always be. Society has reasoned social roles
behind biological roles and tried to play off the essentialism behind it by disguising it and justifying it
as just part of simple nature. Something that cannot be changed, in which it has demonstrated a
deterministic way of living. Males and females were meant to be different from one another, to take on
roles that fir to them as society has defines so. Ultimately females must act according to their
biological and social schema or they are considered to be breaking from the essential manner nature
has established. In Kaplan s and Rogers article Essentialism and Determinism

A 1700 quote by judge Samuel Sewall uses the term in a denunciation of slavery. Gradually, however,
polite discourse increasingly used the term negro (which dates to at least 1555) and nigger became
relegated to the vulgar tongue, increasing in offensiveness over the centuries.
So for instance, when Mark Twain uses the word in Huckleberry Finn , by the standards of his day he
is not being especially offensive (although even then it was a term that would not be used in polite
society), but is using the term as a marker of class and socio economic status of the characters who
utter it. In the 20th century of course, it has become extremely offensive. It, along with cunt are just
about the only taboo words in American discourse today (it s interesting that the most offensive terms
have strong racial or gender discrimination components). About the only acceptable use is in Black
English when African Americans use it to refer to themselves.
In the O. J. Simpson trial of 1995 when evidence of its use by a detective whitness, Mark Furhman

carried the dead body and helped me hold Tom still. We reached the door to the police station, I rang

Learning To Die
Learning To Die
Haruki Murakami once said, death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it. In Donald Barthelme s
short story The School, the students are exposed to death all around them from a very young age. The
death pandemic begins very small, with some trees, and then gradually increases: first to small
animals, then a puppy, and then it moves on to humans. By the end of the story, the children have
experienced so much death in their everyday lives that their knowledge of the world is more
philosophically advanced than even that of their teacher.
Throughout the story, Barthelme chooses to use the word children to describe the students in the
school. This signifies to the reader that this class is very young. The education these ... Show more

After all the previous classroom pets had died, one of the students finds a puppy, which they all insist
on keeping in the classroom. However, the teacher isn t as excited as the students about having

weeks and then... (1). The teacher, hardened by his experiences, is much less hopeful for new life than
the students; he can t help but expect death to closely follow wherever life is. The children, despite
experiencing so much loss in their lives, are still excited about new life. At the end of the story, after
so much death has already occurred, a new gerbil comes to the classroom, and the children cheered
wildly (2). This shows that the teacher s discouragement of new life hasn t impacted the students
enthusiasm for it. The students in this scenario have learned to hope for life where their teacher

The Beauty in Ordinary Life
Vittorio De Sica s The Bicycle Thieves (1948) and Francois Truffaut s The 400 Blows (1959) are both
recognized as highly influential films of their specific era that introduced an innovative way of cinema
world wide. With the Italian Neorealism intention of using a more realistic approach to film, The
Bicycle Thieves highlighted post war Rome s cultural society and economy by following the journey
of an ordinary man and his family s efforts to survive. The 400 Blows, being a French New Wave film,
went against the traditional French cinema and practiced the auteur approach through its style of
autobiography of the director Truffaut, himself, as a troublesome child. Similar ... Show more content

Between the month of April and the month of September in 1980 more than 125,000 Cubans fled
communism embarking from Port of Mariel to south Florida, United States. More than 1,600 boats

There was the scent of saltwater in the air, a scent like no other. There around we could see sharks

predators of the sea. On the boat everyone was very quiet, in fear, with the only hope of getting to our

Research Paper On Marc Chagagall
Fantasy, magic, movement and life. These words describe the work of an extraordinary Artist, Marc
Chagall. At a young age, I came across one of his paintings, I and the Village, in a book I was reading.
This one painting impacted me and changed the way I viewed not only art, but the world. In this work
of art, Marc Chagall creates a world, a surface covered with representations of things... in which logic
and illustration have no importance. (Chagall). A world in which I wanted to live in. There is a peasant
and an animal, looking head to head, eye to eye with calm facial expressions. The animal, dreaming of
a perfect day. A man and woman in the middle of them, one upside down. Above them houses are
placed, upside down as well. At the very bottom is not just a plant, but a tree of life. This painting
comes to life with some geometric shapes that give a feeling of time moving by in a circular motion.
Chagall was ahead of his time. This masterpiece, created in 1911, expressed to me a wish, a theory,

We cared for the raccoons, deer, opossum, fox, chipmunks, squirrels, birds and many other creatures

humans living on the same level, clicked with me at such a young age and it became on of my main

The New England Patriots Played Against The Indianapolis...
Introduction
During the 2015 AFC Championship, the New England Patriots played against the Indianapolis Colts
on January 18th in the Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA. Prior to halftime, however, the Colts
brought suspicions of the Patriots having deflated their balls. They requested the pressures be checked
at halftime. Two referees, Blakeman and Prioleau, each measured the pressure of both the Patriots and
the Colts balls with separate gauges. The Officials came to the conclusion that all 11 of the patriots
balls were underinflated, the required pressure being between 27.2 28.2 pounds per square inch (psi).
Footballs from the colts were also being tested and appeared to be in the accepted range. This situation
was temporarily postponed so the game could continue. The balls were filled to regulation pressure
before restarting. The patriots went on to win 45 7.
Shortly after, the media began to question the cause of the footballs being deflated. Detractors came to
the conclusion they were merely deflated on purpose, while supporters thought they may have been
affected by the cold temperatures that day, which were in the high forties. This lead to the NFL hiring
the independent law firm, PWRWG, to further investigate.
PWRWG is a science law firm which was assigned to determine if the footballs could infact have been
affected by the weather alone. Using the universal gas law to solve for moles (n), it will be determined
if gas was released.

HSBC, as with other banks, took advantage of many poor consumers looking to own their own home.
These consumers had low credit scores, are in default or have low income, which means there was a
higher probability of them not paying back the loan. These banks took advantage by not explaining the

Consumers did not really understand the loans; they just knew they would become homeowners.
Subprime loans are the worst, to me. Who wants to pay back 10 times what their home is actually

Rapid Decline Of Crime In The 1990s
Components of the Rapid Decline in Crime of the 1990s The 1960s were more than just Civil Rights
and Woodstock. Contrary to what the people believed, the 1960s was an important decade in regards
to ending the peaceful period of crime decline that the United States had been enjoying since 1930
(Levitt, Dubner 115 146). The United States was about to see the highest crime rates in its history by
the end of the 1980s, heading for the 1990s. Upon entering the 1990s though, what was being
recorded were record levels of crime, but in the opposite direction as predicted (Levitt, Dubner 115

Shakespeare s Most Famous Soliloquy With A Mark Of Their...
Actors interpret Shakespeare s most famous soliloquy with a mark of their own artistry.
In films and on stage, actors who play Hamlet exhibit various degrees of emotion and pacing
speed. It is difficult to evaluate the soliloquy on its own because the way the play is performed in
its entirety gives meaning to the soliloquy while the soliloquy also illuminates a special
interpretation in the play. However, I argue that the soliloquy has a musical structure a sonata
form, specifically that can serve as a framework under which performances can be analyzed.
Even though they were viewed discretely from their entire play, there are performances of the
soliloquy that may be considered more effective than others under the framework examined
under the sonata form.
The sonata form usually has three main parts: the exposition, the development, and the
recapitulation. In the exposition, the composer introduces a theme that will set the groundwork
for the entire work. Once the theme is introduced, it is often played in a different key but in a
parallel structure. Hamlet s soliloquy begins with the theme of the uncertainty of death: To be
or not to be, that is the question. The rest of the soliloquy expands on this central theme as it
clearly sets the groundwork for Hamlet s internal struggle. A repeat of this theme is heard when
Hamlet speaks, To die: to sleep; No more. Now instead of considering the difficulties and
possibly the nobler act of

How does purchasing rank in the corporate structure at Honda?
The Purchasing at Honda has the option of adding a second source of supply and ultimately for
disqualifying suppliers from additional business with Honda.
How is Honda organized globally? How does this help/hinder the purchasing function at Honda?
Honda concentrated on establishing and then expanding its assembly operations, while carefully

efforts is a program called Best Process.
When Renault came to benchmark Honda, the differences were stark. Renault had more than thirty

it serves a strategic role. Honda discourages adding special unique features because they tend to

Criticism Of The American Dream In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby written by F.Scott Fitzgerald illustrates a picture of the American Society during the
1920 s. The 1920 s were a time of parties, drinking and having fun. Many had dreamed of becoming
rich and being part of the upper class. Although many wished to be part the upper class it was thought
to impossible as almost all of the upper class members in were born into it. In the Great Gatsby
Fitzgerald criticizes the American Dream by creating characters of all classes such as those from new
money, old money, and the working class who all fail to gain the freedom and happiness of the
American Dream. The old American Dream allowed before corruption allowed you to gain wealth,
power, and high status through hard work, and dedication. However, since time changes, so do values.
The American Dream had altered to materialistic aspects. These materialistic possession determine
how successful you are ,and shows it has rooted into the society. Fitzgerald shows this by showing us
the locations of where old money , and where new money live. Residents who live in West Egg are the
people who are referred to as new money as they usually have recently acquired their wealth , and are
lacking a social position. East Egg is home to those called old money who have posses wealth that has
been inherited through generations. Fitzgerald talks about how people from East Egg tend to have
more rights and respect than those who come from West Egg.

The Addiction Of Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is based in the real world, with Greek mythology mixed into
the storyline. Percy, son of Poseidon, must rescue his mother from Hades as well as preventing a feud
from erupting between the Gods on Mount Olympus that would wreak havoc on the Earth. During this
quest Percy Jackson and his friends are invited into the Lotus Hotel and Casino. There they are
engaged in playing games and start to lose track of time, similar to losing oneself in a casino in the
real world. The author of Addiction by Design: Machine Gambling in Las Vegas, Natasha Dow Schull,
researched why casinos were so addicting and the various elements that went into the building of the
casinos in order to keep as many patrons for as long as possible. Casinos are an addicting technology,
they are built for people to step inside and never want to leave. Casinos have been articulated with
concepts of gambling addiction and people s reluctance to step away from the games, whether it is
written in a book or studied in real life. Percy Jackson and his friends are invited into a casino and
before long are addicted to the flashing lights and the winning that the casinos offer, despite the notion
that they are being given thousands of dollars of free stuff, they are already being mind controlled into
not focusing on reality, but simply the games. After traveling for so long, Percy and his friends are too

Symbolism In The Piano Lesson
The Piano Lesson is a play by August Wilson set in Pittsburgh in the 1930s. The play focuses on a
piano owned by the Charles family. The piano is currently in Bernice s house until her brother Boy
Willie comes into town and tells her about the plan he has to sell the piano. This plan causes Boy
Willie and Bernice s true feelings about the piano to come to light. Through this disagreement about
the piano it is revealed that Boy Willie and Bernice have conflicting views about whether the piano

He sees that piano as a way to increase his wealth and to make something out of himself which is
something his parents could not do. This is seen when Boy Willie starts explaining how he is not

Willie says, Boy Willie: He spent/ his whole life farming on somebody else s land. I ain t/ gonna do

The Vogue Of The Lady
As Solomon s work explain, the vogue of the lady, as promoted in English advice literature, had a
large impact on American parents intent on training girls to be polished but congenial, obedient as
daughters and future wives among the community. While this study highlights data on Mary Lyon on a
deeper context, their findings also discuses how the mere presence of economic necessity and
religious zeal in the society significantly affected women s academic development. In terms of the
author s evaluation, In the Company of Educated Women outlines a strong narrative on these
dimensions and its relations to women s struggles in access to academia. The discouraging effects
started with English literature. Solomon concluded the early half of 1700s beliefs with a novel from
Samuel Richardson which highlighted two characters: first Pamela, who preserved her virginity which
own her marriage into the gentry, and secondly, Clarissa, who was a proud heroine disobeying her
parents and ending up dead for her mistake. These types of studies implored through the society as
evidence to use education only to a certain extent to sway women s focus towards the marital training.
Of lesser impact, the author also discusses another figure, Eliza Lucas Pinckney who was
accomplished to study freely and helped her father grow her business. She was reminded of her place
as a female, Solomon indicates. Later she was engaged in a speech in which she accepted her husband
superiority and recognized

A Journey through the Schizophrenic World
Imagine learning that your college roommate and his daughter was only a figment of your
imagination. That they never really existed. Or that it was your spouses college roommate that you
thought was his old time friend never really existed. John Nash from A Beautiful Mind was told that
his college roommate was not real, that he actually had his own room in college. That is how the

When diagnosing schizophrenia there are three different types of symptoms: positive, negative, and
cognitive. Positive Symptoms are symptoms that are would not be seen in a healthy person, such as

considered to be dysfunctional processes. Disorganized thinking is when a person will talk and may
not make logical sense. Thought blocking is when a person feels as if the have been talking the whole

Hallucinations when only that person can either hear, see, or smell something that is not truly there.
The most common hallucinations are Voices ( Schizophrenia). These symptoms are what a person with

Leadership And The Leadership Styles
1. Webster s defines Leadership as the action of leading a group of people or an organization . That
definition really does the word no justice because leadership can look like a great many things to
different people, and there are equally as many ways to lead. One can lead through fear or respect, by
word or by action. Introduction: My definition of leadership and the leadership influences in my
career. I have had numerous leaders that have influenced my career and leadership style to this point.
The Chief on my first Patrol Boat was one of the biggest influences I have had in my career. I
remember how he carried himself with confidence. He empowered his people. He had the personal
power to inspire people to want to be better to not disappoint him. But at the same time was able to
hold people accountable, and have you learn from the experience. I also had a cutter CO that
illustrated for me all the qualities I promised myself I would never be. They did not treat their crew
with respect. By their level of micromanagement, they demonstrated that they did not trust their crew.
People just dreaded coming to work never knowing what the day was going to bring. Even as I strive
to ensure I am never like that leader, there are times that I stop and find myself thinking along the
same lines, and demonstrating some of the same weaknesses. I can see how they fell into the traps that
they did. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my career, and am happy

Reflection And Discernment
Reflection and Discernment in a Dynamic World
Reflection
Reflection is a careful thought about oneself, one s behaviour and one s beliefs. It means reviewing
past experiences and making insights about them. Reflection is like looking into the mirror and saying
what you see. ( Self reflection | Unison , 2017)
It is necessary, because it encourages personal growth. Reflection helps identify our mistakes and how
we can improve on them in the future. It also strengthens a person s emotional intelligence and self
regulation, because during self reflection, you have the opportunity of checking your strengths,
weaknesses, values, and goals and to also check your impact on the people around you. Self regulation
involves being able to correct oneself and adapt to changing situations. This is the building of a
successful life. Reflection enables one to act with Integrity. This occurs as a result of conscious effort,
reviewing all the actions made and decisions taken and comparing them to the values you hold in
esteem would help you monitor and control yourself and slowly help you become a person of

Raymond Carver and his Works
Part 2
I personally believe that with any story told or movie made that you have to creator s life to see where
the story actually comes from. No matter what we do in life we all as human beings find a way to
show what we have been through in our lives. Raymond Carver was no different just he had a really
tough road that he traveled and it showed in his stories. According to an interview with William, Stull
in Matters of Life Death: An Interview with Raymond Carver Carver also understood that his life
showed through in his work, Wolff said in a review of my first book of stories that he felt he could
pick out a story of mine without seeing my name attached to it. I took that as a compliment. If you can
find an author s fingerprints on the work, you can tell it s his and no other s. (Stull 14 17) Carver s life
bled through his work and in The Bath we can see this. In The Bath we have a couple dealing with the
accident their son had been in and it seemed to push them apart more than they already were. The fact
of the couple losing touch with each other managed to transcend the story into Carver s real life,
Carver s marriage to his first wife Maryann. But instead of an accident pushing Raymond and
Maryann apart, it was Raymond s addiction to Alcohol and the problems that came with his addiction.

alcohol addiction was spiraling out of control and was poised to take

How does William Wordsworth s poetry fit into the literary tradition of Romanticism?
Q. How does William Wordsworth s poetry fit into the literary tradition of Romanticism?
A. Romantic poetry was an artistic movement of the late 18th and early
19th century. It dealt with nature, human imagination, childhood and the ability to recall emotional
memories of both happiness and sadness. Before Wordsworth began writing his revolutionary new
style of poetry, all preceding poetry had a very different style.
The reason these poems were classed as revolutionary was because he believed that romantic poetry
should describe incidents of common life and ordinary people and were written in deliberately plain
words. It was what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and a single small cottage the only dwelling on earth that she loves She looks, her heart to heaven
This shows how happy she is at seeing her cottage, in the countryside that she loves.
However, this soon fades. The images go away and she is sad once again as she goes back to her
unhappy life in the city where she feels trapped. This fits into Romanticism by including most of the
main features. It deals with human feelings and how Susan is sad. It includes memories and the use of
imagination. It also shows probably the most important feature, which is a love of nature. We see that
Susan feels truly happy surrounded by hills and pastures.
We also see this in Wordsworth s most famous and well known poem
Daffodils . Wordsworth thought of his poetry as originating in
emotion recollected in tranquillity . His memories were memories of strong feelings of happiness
brought about by something or some landscape connected to the nature.
In Daffodils , we again see all the features that make this poem fit into the tradition of Romanticism
and Romantic Poetry.
Wordsworth describes nature and says how beautiful it is and the beauty he sees when he looks at the
daffodils.
when all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils .
He also uses his imagination to see the daffodils almost as human beings. He describes their
movements as, and compares

Congress s Role In US Intelligence Reform
Empowered by its authority over budget funding , Congress came up in 1991 with enhanced formula
to streamline the information flow upon prevalence of extraordinary circumstances affecting vital
interests of the United States 9 The new formula authorized the President to bypass the full quorum of
the congressional intelligence committees, and only notify the Gang of Eight, and any other
congressional leaders he elects to inform. Members of the Gang of Eight include the chairmen and
ranking Members of the two congressional intelligence committees and the House and Senate majority
and minority leadership 10 (Erwin 2013, 1). Issues pertaining to Intelligence oversight are intricate ;
complicated at best and confusing at worst . By the virtue of its very nature , intelligence and open
scrutiny do not mix although that is what Congress is mandated to do . Historically , the debate over
Intelligence reform oversight was a bloody uphill battle between the legislative executive bodies . To
further illustrate that point , a study that researched history of 58 of congressional record , titled US

The International Civil Aviation Organization
1. Introduction A conference was initiated by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, in
which all the allied powers as well as some neutral governments convened at Chicago to discuss the
future of civil aviation. The expectations from this conference, which came to be known as the
Chicago Convention, were high even though the timing of the convention wasn t perfect. The Chicago
Convention proposed the formation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which
later became a part of the UN in 1947. The ICAO contains universal rules covering airspace
sovereignty, aircraft registration and airworthiness, and global Standards and Recommended Practices
(SARPs) for technical and safety harmonization records of the national ... Show more content on

Fifty four countries attended the Chicago conference and although it did not quite achieve all of its
goals, it did provide the groundwork for the founding of the ICAO in 1947. The Soviet Union was
invited to the conference but did not attend. Many of the countries which the Allies were at war
Germany, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Finland were not invited and were
not represented but it was the absence of the USSR which was mainly felt as the USSR represented
the largest land territory of the world and were expected to play an important role in after war
arrangements. This negative attitude of the USSR was perhaps a sign of the cold war mistrust and
isolation and that the secretive USSR was not ready to open its air space to international cooperation.
The official reason given for the non participation though was that among the nations taking part in
the conference, there were some countries like Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal which for a number
of years have carried on a hostile policy towards the Soviet Union. 3. Outcomes of the Convention
The atmosphere of the conference was one of uncertainty and some anxiety, which was felt by all
delegations towards the attempts of the US to impose its

Problem/Issue Statement
The problem presented by Joseph Armand Bombardier is the upcoming third round of ERP
implementation in his organization. Even though a big improvement over the efficiency and success of
execution between the first ERP round (Mirabel plant) and second round (Saint Laurent plant), there is
still room for improvement.
The focus is to identify the practices vs. the best of the best practices in the industry in relation to ERP
implementation and offer specifics on how to make this third round provide a higher success rate.
Main Problem: The rollout of ERP at the Mirabel plant and then followed by the Saint Laurent plant
did improve, but still had their fair share of challenges. Our area of improvement will be from the
results given after ERP went live at Saint Laurent. The main problem appears to be still be a
disconnect between the business vs. project team and properly communicating and training those who
will be using the new ERP system (SAP in this situation). While the overall response was positive, not
every issue from the Mirabel plant has been corrected and resolved.
Symptoms: A few symptoms mentioned was that specialized knowledge was concentrated in a few
individuals, embellishing the scorecards to mask some of the issues, gaps in understanding of priority
between project team and actual business, and finally some feedback on wanting SAP to have done
more for an individual s current job.
The scope of the problem involves the

What Is The Difference Between Pepsi And Coca Cola
There are a lot of soda companies out there, even though not all of them are similar, especially their
marketing strategies and how they give use of their websites. A couple of the mainstream companies
are Coca Cola and Pepsi. While some people will make a very strong case that they are very different
in taste, this is especially true with their websites and the way they show themselves.
Let s compare the Coca Cola s website with Pepsi s website, the biggest difference is the color. Coca
Cola uses red as their predominant color and Pepsi uses blue.
The first thing a guest will notice on Coca Cola s website is that the way the links are set up is
extremely disorganized. They can make it look more professional, if they stop re directing their links
to different websites. For example, if someone were to click on Coke in The USA tab on the
homepage, and decide to click on any of the links in the drop down menu, then the guest will quickly
realize that a new tab opened up on their web browser, and that they are now on a different website.
This sounds simple in theory, but a guest will end up with numerous tabs, which they will have to
painstakingly exit out of and on top of that, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Noblest Roman Of Them All
Sophia Seo Mrs. Rufolo English 9 Honors 11 15 14 The Noblest Roman of Them All Meet Brutus, the
man who made the phrase stabbing a friend in the back literal. He kept only the best of intentions in
mind when he sacrificed his friendship for the better of the whole. He was considered a noble, naive
idealist and patriotic politician by his fellow patricians. Due to his strong passion for Rome, this tragic
hero was manipulated to turn against a dear friend. Marcus Brutus battled with his conflicting
emotions on account of his close relationship with Caesar, extreme loyalty to Rome, and blind trust.
Brutus felt he was caught in an internal battle between fulfilling his loyalty to his country and the
friendship with Caesar. Early in the play, he apologizes for being withdrawn and troubling Cassius
with his personal grievances. Then that poor Brutus, with himself at war, forgets the shows of love to
other men (I.ii.46 47). Brutus s political mindset feared the damage a king would do to the republic
while his love for Caesar hampered him from taking action. Cassius asked Brutus if he feared the
crowning of Caesar. In response, the distressed patrician expressed both his political and personal
opinions. He admitted his fear, but also stated he loved Caesar. He then inquired whether Cassius s
intention was necessary for the general good. He would weigh honour and death impartially, but result
in loving the name of honor more than the fear of death. (I.ii.78 89) As a devoted

Amsterdam By Ian Mcewan Analysis
In Amsterdam by Ian McEwan the moral choice is not necessarily a conspicuous one. Throughout the
novel doing what is moral is clouded by the characters selfishness or what they presume to be
selflessness. Friendship, politics and media are typically associated with the more ambiguous areas in
life. In Amsterdam, the intricacies of these topics are made even more complex by the Clive Linley s
inward conflicts. The complexities of morality and ambition are revealed through McEwan s
employment of imagery and the striking characterization of Clive Linley. To begin with, McEwan s
use of imagery is quite powerful as one is in enveloped into Clive Linley s environment and inward
thoughts as he ventures through the mountains. Clive is hoping to find the theme for his final
symphony while being surrounded by nature. Linley strives to produce a symphony with the spiritual
weight of Beethoven s Ode to joy(McEwan). However, while on his quest he begins to feel
apprehensive about the colossal emptiness and even the rock mass above the valley starts resembling a
long frown set in stone (McEwan). As Linley continues his journey the nature that was supposed to
spark genius hinders his creative process by causing him to feel that his mission was pointless. Linley
begins questioning if focusing on his last symphony is the right choice for him to make or if he is just
using it as a tool to distract him from a fear of death. Linley s nihilistic reflection can make one doubt

How To Keep Food On Landfill
Keeping Food on the Plate, and out of Landfill s We as people probably don t realize how much good
food we throw away every day and how much of it lands in a landfill where so much of it goes to
waste. So much of perfectly good food is being thrown away when it could go to someone who really
needs it. Although I concede that the best buy and use by labels law is a big contributor to landfills, I
still insist that people overbuying food is one of the biggest contributors to landfills. Let s start out by
discussing why landfills are becoming largely filled with perfectly good food. Some people when they
go grocery shopping feel like they need to have a full fridge and panty but when in reality half the
food they buy ends up going in the trash. Some people also have food go to waste because they don t
know how to properly store leftovers and ways to keep it fresh and last longer. Whenever you buy
something there will be a label on their that will either say use by this date or best buy this date. Some
people only go by the dates and think since its past the date we need to throw it away. Households are
not the only place where food is coming from that ends up in a landfill. Now let s discuss the reasons
why the food label law is not one of the big contributors to the landfills. ... Show more content on

  • 2. Bioterrorism with Smallpox Essay Bioterrorism: Smallpox Smallpox is a highly infectious and fatal disease caused by the Variola virus. It causes extremely painful pustules to sprout across the entire body. Spread from human to human, it has since been eradicated from the world through the efforts of the World Health Organization. However, there is a distinct possibility that it may be reintroduced through bioterrorism. Biological weapons may cause another pandemic to erupt across the world and kill millions of individuals. Through constant vigilance and careful planning, mankind can prevent this scenario. During the course of human history, pandemic diseases have threatened the balance of civilization itself. Viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other infectious agents have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is stable outside the host, allowing it to infect large populations when aerosolized (Ryan 55). There are four forms of smallpox caused by Variola major: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic (Ryan 57). The ordinary form is a typical case where pustules remain distinct from one another. The modified form is one where the symptoms are less severe, usually due to vaccination. Flat smallpox is a form where the pustules are almost always flush with the skin. These cases are highly fatal. The hemorrhagic form causes bleeding under the skin, creating a black color. The victim usually dies before pustules can form. Variola minor causes a fairly mild form of smallpox called alastrim, which is rarely fatal. There is no cure for smallpox available, though antiviral drugs are being actively developed by the various research institutions, including the National Institutes of Health. If the individual is exposed to smallpox and has not developed symptoms, the vaccine may be administered to decrease chance of contracting the disease and to decrease the severity of the infection (Ryan 57). A 1998 study by Dr. Huggins experimented with the use of cidofovir, a DNA polymerase inhibitor, as a treatment option, but it has not been proven to be a more effective treatment than vaccination (Henderson 7). However, HDP CDV, a derivative of cidofovir, has recently shown promise in treating both smallpox and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. White Noise Satire Don Delillo utilizes satire of the postmodern novel to critique issues which continue to plague American society. Although Don Delillo s novel White Noise is complex and full of implicit meaning, the protagonist Jack Gladney communicates the central idea of the narrative, All plots tend to move deathward. This is the nature of plots (Delillo 26) . The novel does not take on a linear storyline for most of the novel but there is more impact in its collection of vignettes. The majority of the novel portrays Jack s daily routine which effectively illustrates the pervasive nature of the materialistic society Delillo creates. The activities Jack s family engage in, from grocery shopping to family dinners gives them the appearance that their thoughts and experiences are that of most families. ... This issue is present in White Noise and Delillo uses it to bring attention to the blurring effect of materialistic society on the border between reality and artificiality. This can be seen in his depiction of the German language, the airborne toxic event, and Babbete s class. This issue continues to pervade American society. It can be seen in the increasing popularity of virtual reality technology, historical reenactments, and the power of branding. This suggests that the American culture is losing a value for reality. • 4. Ewaso Ng Iro Watershed Ewaso Ng iro watershed is a catchment of water that stretches from the west side of Mount Kenya and across seven arid to semi arid landscapes (Said et al. 13). The catchment is characterized by vastly different physiographic features and species and has become a fundamental component to the survival of the wildlife, as well as the expansion of human population and socio economic developments. Water, the limited land resource provided by the Ewaso Ng iro watershed is unevenly distributed throughout the higher and lower regions of the catchment due to the large percentage necessary to maintain agricultural practices (Mutiga, Su, and Woldai 3). The ecosystems within the Ewaso Ng iro watershed have been manipulated to such a degree that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5). The tributaries that drain into the catchment have progressively began to dry up, particularly throughout the dry seasons (Mutiga, Su, and Woldai 102). Climate change is a major contributor to such phenomenon, as the process of evapotranspiration has __________. Other changes such as unreliable rainfall patterns and quantities and decreasing discharge during the low flow periods also have significant impacts on all aspects of the Ewaso Ng iro watershed (Aeschbacher, Liniger and Weingartner 155,156). The water catchment lies predominantly through arid to semi arid landscapes where the annual levels of rainfall and precipitation have seemingly decreased over the years (Mutiga, Su, and Woldai 102). As uneven water distribution has become a complex issue, the ability to support the ecosystem s vegetation and wildlife will decrease, and human populations and developments will faced with ongoing sustainability challenges. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY The Ewaso Ng iro watershed stretches over a diverse variety of ecosystems from the high regions of Mount Kenya to the lower arid to semi arid regions of land. Each ecosystem delivers a unique contribution to the land and people of Kenya as they interact with one another to achieve a sustainable equilibrium. The wetland ecosystems which are located in the higher regions of Mount Kenya ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Christianity in William Blake s Works Christianity in Blake Theology is actually one of the many topics that frequently appears in a variety of work of English poet William Blake. A brief overview of some of the author s more noted works such as The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , The Book of Thel , and Songs of Innocence and Experience readily attest to this fact. In Songs of Innocence and Experience, however, a number of the author s poems seem to integrate a decidedly Christian worldview within their text and the cosmology presented to readers through these works. This proclivity of Blake s is particularly salient in The Chimney Sweeper and The Lamb . In fact, one can argue that most of the fundamental beliefs that Christianity is based upon are found within these poems, which serve as excellent examples of the author s tendency to write poems that adhere to a decidedly Christian viewpoint. Thematically, each of the aforementioned poems details some of the central precepts in Christianity. This point is made abundantly clear when one analyzes The Chimney Sweeper , which connotes situations that are analogous to the redeeming grace of Jesus whose presence and divinity the religion of Christianity is based upon for sinners: which is implied by the dirt and soot that characterizes the young chimney sweepers in this poem. Within this poetic work Blake makes allusions to the sacrament of baptism, in which the redeemed chimney sweepers are primarily able to earn God s grace after they wash in a river ... • 6. Descriptive Essay About Life The Transformation Anywhere you go can create memories, but can also become a part of you in one way or another. Some of those places may have had an impact on a person s life that changed him or her as a person. For others, some places may have a special meaning, teaching, or maybe because the best memories were made in that special place. For me, the best memories and the one place that I always remember is Woodburn Oregon. This city has so many good, happy, and bad memories that I still remember. These memories bring back my childhood and how my perspective of life changed. As a young child, growing up in Woodburn Oregon during the summer, I learned to not only appreciate everything I have, but to also work hard to be successful. Woodburn is a very beautiful, happy, and peaceful city that is full of nature. The city is surrounded by amazing trees, buildings, flowers, parks, and much more. The city also has great restaurants, theaters, museums and arcades. Woodburn also has amazing views and has great agricultural lands filled with flowers such as, colorful tulips, and roses. I remember going by a land filled with bright yellow and red tulips. As I was passing by, I remember smelling the sweet smell of the flowers and the fresh air. The cold winds would make the flowers move, letting the sweat fragrance out and making the air smell good. Now everytime I see a tulip, it reminds me of the huge lands filled with tulips. • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of Lyndon B Johnson s We Shall Overcome On the night of February 18, 1956, an African American man named Jimmy Jackson took place in a peaceful march to protest discrimination, specifically in voting rights, in the United States. He and a group of protesters were attacked by police that night, and the young activist s life was cut short when he was shot in the stomach by a state trooper.1 This tragic tale was common during the Civil Rights Movement, yet it was this specific story that sparked outrage in activists across the United States. While there were many influential speeches given during the Civil Rights Movement, one could argue that the We Shall Overcome2 speech is one of the most significant. This speech was addressed to Congress and was given by the 36th United States President Lyndon B. Johnson on March 16, 1965.3 It is significant because it is credited with persuading Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act that gave African American citizens the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his speech We Shall Overcome, Lyndon B. Johnson is able to effectively use rhetorical appeals to persuade Congress to pass the Voting Rights Bill. President Johnson establishes pathos through his use of rhetorical devices to show Congress that those wanting the Voting Rights Bill can no longer wait, in order to persuade them to pass it swiftly. To achieve this purpose, Johnson uses imagery to illustrate that if voting rights were to be withheld from African Americans, there would be negative consequences. He explains that the . . . time of justice has now come . . . • 9. Daniel Gardner and the Science of Fear Anyone who saw it will never forget it. And almost everyone saw it. When the first jet darted out of that crisp blue September sky and crashed into the World Trade Center, only a single television camera captured the image. But as the tower burned, alerts flashed trough wires and airwaves. The world s electronic eyes turned, opened, and waited. When the second plane streaked in, an immense audience perhaps hundreds of millions saw the jet, the angry explosion, the gushing smoke, the glass and steel raining down like confetti in a parade. They saw it live (Gardner, 2008). Nearly 3000 people were killed during the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 and the coming months the media were filled with interviews, profiles and terrible stories of loss. Fear of more terrorist attacks spread the nation. As a reaction, the American population massively abandoned airports and chose to travel by car instead, which had a great impact on the airline business. But what no one mentioned nor the media or politicians is that air travel is dramatically safer than driving. The safety gap is so large, that planes would still be safer than cars even if the threat of terrorism were unimaginably worse than it actually is. According to research, 1595 people lost their lives because of the major shift from air travel to a much less safe way of traveling: by car. That is six times as many as the people who where on board of the doomed flights on September 11. So how come that people put ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Right Of Privacy And Protection From Government... The right to privacy and protection from government abusing power has been a debatable topic for centuries. Many American people struggled for years, arguing in courts, and proving their right to privacy and protection. It is the fourth amendment that clearly states, The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated ... So shouldn t the government refrain from violating this rule? Not according to the FBI. In December 2015, the FBI recovered an iPhone (Apple Inc. cellphone product) at the crime scene of a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. The iPhone was claim to belong to one of the terrorists involved in the attack. The FBI has contacted Apple requesting that the company disables the security feature on the iPhone they obtained at the crime scene. Apple declines the requests with the thought of its customer s privacy in mind. Even though the FBI does have probably cause, forcing the company to comply to their request will contradict Apple s privacy policies that are insured to their customers. Should the government be allowed to force Apple to betray their customers? As of March last year, an estimate total of 94 million iPhones was in use in the United States. That is potentially more or less of 94 million Apples customers that could experience the effects over one iPhone dispute. • 11. Government Control Is Power Essay Control is Power How far can government control go? This question has been debated for centuries, and even now it is not an easy question to answer. Society and technology are in a constant state of upgrades and evolution from what it once was. With these new advancements in technology, new dangers are also present. The question then asked is, how far should the government go in protecting us? How far can government control of its people go? 1984 and Divergent show ways in how the government can control people. It also shows how it can become invasive and can create a dystopia. The main three ways the governments gain control in each story are social hierarchy, constant monitoring, and brainwashing. These three ways show how a government can gain too much control while using the excuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This happens two ways in both of the stories. In 1984 people are directly brainwashed. Their subjugated citizens are programmed not only to accept if Big Brother says that 2 + 2 = 5, but also to believe it. ( Fitzpatrick ). The readers can clearly see it happening to Winston when even he acknowledges 2 + 2 = 5. The readers watch as Winston actually accepts his own brainwashing. 1984 also includes another form of brainwashing that is less direct. The masses of people are brainwashed by thinking they are in a constant state of war. World powers become enemies and allies interchangeably simply to keep the masses in perpetual fear, perpetual industry, and perpetual order. ( Fitzpatrick ). In Divergent the brainwashing is also indirect and direct. In the movie the Dauntless are literally brainwashed and taken control of through a special chip implanted in them. Divergent also shows indirect brainwashing through its faction system. By forcing people to be in a certain faction it also forces those people to think a certain way. This restricts people s free thoughts and allows the government full control much like the caste systems and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Refugees And Asylum Of Refugees Hundreds of thousands of people every year are forced to leave their homes. Refugees are defined as people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugee refers to a person or people who, outside their country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II (Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for refugee status has been accepted. After their application is accepted, they are officially recognized as a refugee. The right to determine whether or not a person is a refugee is not reserved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bhutto married again an Iranian Kurdish woman named Begum Nusrat Ispahani in Karachi on 8th Sept., 1951. His political career mainly started in the year 1957, when the Bhutto became the youngest member of Pakistan s delegation to UN. In the year 1958, he became the youngest Pakistan Cabinet Minister under President Ayub Khan. He was famous for his demagogic styles of speech, which brought him to national prominence and popularity. His rise in politics and higher echelons of power was due to his mysteriously sharp mind coupled with cunning desire to be on the top of the national politics. His astute political manoeuvrings can be gauged from the fact that on the eve of India China war in 1962, the rulers of China invited Pakistan to jointly dismember India by attacking on North East and Laddakh and Pakistan from Jammu side in Jammu and Kashmir to grab the maximum territory. Pakistan could fulfil their wish by taking Kashmir and China would grab entire North East to come closure to Indian Ocean. Bhutto disclosed the plan to General Ayub Khan the President of Pakistan but got rebuked for such a loathsome and outrageous suggestion, rather was suggested that Pakistan should have Joint Defence Agreement with India. Bhutto was aghast and made a sorry exit, calling Ayub Khan a political bankrupt. Again Bhutto in 1965 after India Pakistan war when learned about India enriching Uranium for ... • 15. Should Female Contruction Workers Earn the Same Wages as Male Ever since women have been able to vote, there have been more rights for women everywhere in America. Somehow in construction working, women get lower paid than men. Should they be paid the same as men? The working area is the same, so why is it that women have lower payments because of their gender? Relationship Between Female And Female Leading all the way from the seventeenth to nineteenth century, essentialism and determinism lead to assumptions made by society, in which many of these assumptions are the gender roles women have taken on, contracting those male take and stay away from due to reasoning behind human nature. Outside the law courts, in gender relations, assumptions are often held as if there were an essentialist nature distinguishing men and women and that they have separate needs based on their biology (30). Meaning any distinguishes made between male and female are all treated as part of nature and they are different in multiple aspects in society and how they act due to their differentiated biological makeup. It is a reductionist way of thinking and explaining that females are meant to greatly differ from males because that is just how nature has set it up and will always be. Society has reasoned social roles behind biological roles and tried to play off the essentialism behind it by disguising it and justifying it as just part of simple nature. Something that cannot be changed, in which it has demonstrated a deterministic way of living. Males and females were meant to be different from one another, to take on roles that fir to them as society has defines so. Introduction During the 2015 AFC Championship, the New England Patriots played against the Indianapolis Colts on January 18th in the Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA. Prior to halftime, however, the Colts brought suspicions of the Patriots having deflated their balls. They requested the pressures be checked at halftime. Two referees, Blakeman and Prioleau, each measured the pressure of both the Patriots and the Colts balls with separate gauges. The Officials came to the conclusion that all 11 of the patriots balls were underinflated, the required pressure being between 27.2 28.2 pounds per square inch (psi). Footballs from the colts were also being tested and appeared to be in the accepted range. This situation was temporarily postponed so the game could continue. The balls were filled to regulation pressure before restarting. The patriots went on to win 45 7. Shortly after, the media began to question the cause of the footballs being deflated. Detractors came to the conclusion they were merely deflated on purpose, while supporters thought they may have been affected by the cold temperatures that day, which were in the high forties. This lead to the NFL hiring the independent law firm, PWRWG, to further investigate. • 28. Shakespeare s Most Famous Soliloquy With A Mark Of Their... Actors interpret Shakespeare s most famous soliloquy with a mark of their own artistry. In films and on stage, actors who play Hamlet exhibit various degrees of emotion and pacing speed. It is difficult to evaluate the soliloquy on its own because the way the play is performed in its entirety gives meaning to the soliloquy while the soliloquy also illuminates a special interpretation in the play. However, I argue that the soliloquy has a musical structure a sonata form, specifically that can serve as a framework under which performances can be analyzed. Even though they were viewed discretely from their entire play, there are performances of the soliloquy that may be considered more effective than others under the framework examined under the sonata form. The sonata form usually has three main parts: the exposition, the development, and the recapitulation. In the exposition, the composer introduces a theme that will set the groundwork for the entire work. Once the theme is introduced, it is often played in a different key but in a parallel structure. Hamlet s soliloquy begins with the theme of the uncertainty of death: To be or not to be, that is the question. The rest of the soliloquy expands on this central theme as it clearly sets the groundwork for Hamlet s internal struggle. A repeat of this theme is heard when Hamlet speaks, To die: to sleep; No more. Now instead of considering the difficulties and possibly the nobler act of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Vogue Of The Lady As Solomon s work explain, the vogue of the lady, as promoted in English advice literature, had a large impact on American parents intent on training girls to be polished but congenial, obedient as daughters and future wives among the community. While this study highlights data on Mary Lyon on a deeper context, their findings also discuses how the mere presence of economic necessity and religious zeal in the society significantly affected women s academic development. In terms of the author s evaluation, In the Company of Educated Women outlines a strong narrative on these dimensions and its relations to women s struggles in access to academia. The discouraging effects started with English literature. Solomon concluded the early half of 1700s beliefs with a novel from Samuel Richardson which highlighted two characters: first Pamela, who preserved her virginity which own her marriage into the gentry, and secondly, Clarissa, who was a proud heroine disobeying her parents and ending up dead for her mistake. These types of studies implored through the society as evidence to use education only to a certain extent to sway women s focus towards the marital training. Of lesser impact, the author also discusses another figure, Eliza Lucas Pinckney who was accomplished to study freely and helped her father grow her business. That definition really does the word no justice because leadership can look like a great many things to different people, and there are equally as many ways to lead. One can lead through fear or respect, by word or by action. Introduction: My definition of leadership and the leadership influences in my career. I have had numerous leaders that have influenced my career and leadership style to this point. The Chief on my first Patrol Boat was one of the biggest influences I have had in my career. I remember how he carried himself with confidence. He empowered his people. He had the personal power to inspire people to want to be better to not disappoint him. But at the same time was able to hold people accountable, and have you learn from the experience. I also had a cutter CO that illustrated for me all the qualities I promised myself I would never be. They did not treat their crew with respect. By their level of micromanagement, they demonstrated that they did not trust their crew. People just dreaded coming to work never knowing what the day was going to bring. Even as I strive to ensure I am never like that leader, there are times that I stop and find myself thinking along the same lines, and demonstrating some of the same weaknesses. No matter what we do in life we all as human beings find a way to show what we have been through in our lives. Raymond Carver was no different just he had a really tough road that he traveled and it showed in his stories. I took that as a compliment. If you can find an author s fingerprints on the work, you can tell it s his and no other s. (Stull 14 17) Carver s life bled through his work and in The Bath we can see this. In The Bath we have a couple dealing with the accident their son had been in and it seemed to push them apart more than they already were. The fact of the couple losing touch with each other managed to transcend the story into Carver s real life, Carver s marriage to his first wife Maryann. But instead of an accident pushing Raymond and Maryann apart, it was Raymond s addiction to Alcohol and the problems that came with his addiction. According to Abby, Werlock in The Facts on File Companion to the American Short Story Carver s alcohol addiction was spiraling out of control and was poised to take ... How does William Wordsworth s poetry fit into the literary tradition of Romanticism? A. Romantic poetry was an artistic movement of the late 18th and early 19th century. It dealt with nature, human imagination, childhood and the ability to recall emotional memories of both happiness and sadness. Before Wordsworth began writing his revolutionary new style of poetry, all preceding poetry had a very different style. The reason these poems were classed as revolutionary was because he believed that romantic poetry should describe incidents of common life and ordinary people and were written in deliberately plain words. It also shows probably the most important feature, which is a love of nature. We see that Susan feels truly happy surrounded by hills and pastures. The focus is to identify the practices vs. the best of the best practices in the industry in relation to ERP implementation and offer specifics on how to make this third round provide a higher success rate. Main Problem: The rollout of ERP at the Mirabel plant and then followed by the Saint Laurent plant did improve, but still had their fair share of challenges. Our area of improvement will be from the results given after ERP went live at Saint Laurent. The main problem appears to be still be a disconnect between the business vs. project team and properly communicating and training those who will be using the new ERP system (SAP in this situation).
