The Age Discrimination In Employment Act (ADEA)
Define and explain ADEA The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) is the federal
law governing age discrimination. It was ordered in 1967 to advance the work of more seasoned
specialists in view of capacity as opposed to age, avoid discrimination, and help take care of the
issues that emerge with an aging workforce. The ADEA precludes a business from refusing to
contract, firing, or for the most part discriminating against a delegate age at least 40 prepared,
only on the start of age. Along these lines, a business can t deny a delegate pay or fringe benefits
when the main support is age. Nor may a business portray delegates into gatherings of an age group
in a way that outlandishly precludes workers from claiming work openings. For instance,

Fuctose-Bisphosphate Aldolase Lab Report
Fructose bisphosphate aldolase
Table 1 Alternative name, co factors and reaction summarize in this table
Accepted Name: Fructose bisphosphate aldolase.
Alternative Name(s):
Aldolase.
D fructose 1,6 bisphosphate D glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate lyase.
Fructose 1,6 bisphosphate triosephosphate lyase.
Reaction catalyzed: D fructose 1,6 bisphosphate glycerone phosphate + D glyceraldehyde 3
phosphate
Cofactor(s): Zn(2+).
Introduction Fructose bisphosphate aldolase is a glycolytic compound. It catalyzes the reversible
aldol cleavage or buildup of fructose 1,6 bisphosphate into dihydroxyacetone phosphate and
glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate. This enzyme has been divided in two classes of fructose bisphosphate
aldolases based on distinctive reactant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either the carbon carbon bond cleavage or the arrival of glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate involve the
moderate stride of the catalysis response; on the other hand, studies show that the GAP discharge is
likely the slowest step.
It has been demonstrated that aldolase is restrained allosterically by oxidized glutathione, which is
an oxidizing specie. The glutathione oxidizes a thiol 25 angstroms from the synergist site, which
along these lines causes a drop in reactant action. Furthermore, the compound demonstrates no
positive cooperativity, regardless of being an oligomer. Indeed, energy information really
demonstrate that the compound displays negative cooperativity. Along these lines the catalysis is
profoundly compartmentalized inside of every subunit and tying causes minimal distal change of
the chemicals structure.

Essay about Donnie Darko Belonging
Belonging is a perception shaped within personal, social, cultural and historical context. While to
most the concept only includes acceptance and harmony, there can be two sides to belonging, and
Donnie Darko explores this idea through its characters and their context in the film.
Donnie Darko is set against the backdrop of the 1988 Bush vs. Dukakis Presidential election; it
represents 1980 s conservative America through the last 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12
seconds of Donnie Darko s life. There is a strong theme of insecurity and isolation and many of the
characters don t belong throughout the film.
These themes are represented by Kelly using a range of film techniques. The use of iconic
references, such as fashion, news and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Donnie, she sees the bigger picture of society. We are losing them to apathy. She explains to
the indifferent Principal Cole.
I am sorry that you have failed. He replies, after an unsatisfactory explanation for her dismissal.
During the scene, Mrs Pomeroy is seated lower than Principal Cole, making him seem more
powerful and while Mrs Pomeroy s body language is open and truthful, Principal Cole s is cagey
and exasperated, blocked off and protected by his desk. The audience and Mrs Pomeroy know who
is right, but are powerless to change anything, creating a feeling of isolation.
A sense of irony is created as the most honest people in the film are labelled as mentally unstable
(Donnie is diagnosed with schizophrenia) or, in Ms Pomeroy s case, unsuitable figures of
authority, whereas characters such as Jim Cunningham, while famous and respected are revealed
as false (Donnie burns down Jim s house to expose a kiddie porn dungeon ).
While outcasts of society, they all are connected by their position, which could be seen as either a
blessing or curse. To be happily oblivious to the shortcomings of society might be wistfully
contemplated, however, given the choice, I don t think the characters would choose it.
Watching this movie, I felt I could relate to them, as I think everyone does, having experienced life
so far. It s confusing and frustrating sometimes. I m sure everyone has times where they feel like an

Jonas s Journey In The Giver And The Twilight Saga
Adventure is fulfilling your dreams while seeking out the exciting and unusual experiences.
Finding the hidden truths behind the scenes can transfer the sense of glory and achievement,
especially when attempting to discover new life. Jonas and Bella, of The Giver and The Twilight
Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two, transition to new life, but with a personal cost: they each must
leave the world they know to enter a new, perhaps dangerous, opportunity for life. The journey to
find a new beginning through the eyes of these characters will determine what will lie ahead of
them. Bella Swan, now part of the Cullen family was once the young teenager who was
shy, unknown of her surroundings, and had a unique connection to the uncanny, Edward Cullen.

Kiwi Forest Birds
Before pests were introduced into New Zealand, it was home to thousands of birds and these all
evolved without the threat of predatory land mammals. Except for two species of bat, there were
no land mammals in New Zealand before humans arrived. Because of this, plants and animals did
not evolve defence mechanisms or any way to protect themselves from the predators. For
instance, the leaves of plants do not contain poisons to deter browsing mammals, while many
birds and insects have lost their ability to fly. Possums, rats, stoats, ferrets and feral cats all kill
adult birds, their chicks and raid their nests for eggs. They are also major competitors for
sometimes wiping out entirely critical food sources such as supplies of fruits,... Show more content

In Tongariro Forest, the survival of kiwi chicks increased by 57% after a dramatic reduction in
pest numbers following the 2006 aerial 1080 drop. This increase in native bird population helps to
stabilise the functioning of the ecosystem as a whole. However, some aerial 1080 drops may
negatively impact the population of local birds if not carried out with enough care. There have
been individuals found dead after aerial 1080 drops from 19 species of native birds, although this
mainly occurred in the 1970s. 7 of the 38 tagged kea in ЕЊkДЃrito Forest in August 2011 were

in water and is diluted quickly. Micro organisms also usually help to degrade it quickly, meaning
it is unlikely the environment will have any long term contamination. Any trace 1080 will
usually have disappeared from baits and soil by 1 4 weeks in mild conditions, although it may
take up to several months to disappear under cold or dry conditions. Once in water, 1080 is
biodegraded into non toxic by products within two to six days, although the breakdown rate is
slower in colder conditions. 1080 is diluted quickly to very low concentrations in water. 1080 can
also be taken up by plants from the soil through

Racial Disparity
When it comes to the War on Drugs and racial disparity, African Americans males are more likely
to receive a higher prison sentence than their white counterparts. For example, there is disparity in
sentencing regarding powder cocaine and crack cocaine. The judicial system provides a heavier
prison sentence for crack than powder, even though it is better than previously. Crack and powder
cocaine are both illegal substances that derive from the same drug, which is cocaine. Whites and
African Americandrug addicts use these drugs; however, the difference is the distribution and use
of the drugs targets distinct groups of people. White drug dealers use and sell powder cocaine more
frequently in wealthier communities. Addicts abuse crack cocaine... Show more content on

The researchers conducted to examine racial disparity in the war on drugs in suburban areas. The
population reviewed includes wealthy white drug consumers and minority drug dealers. The
researchers examined the literature related to the war on drugs, the impact on suburban families,
and minority drugs dealers. They looked at the war on drugs historically and concluded that the
blame for suburban drug use fell on minority drugs dealers. The researchers also noted that judges
sentenced affluent, suburban youth to less time and subject to the benefits of rehabilitation,
treatment, reform, and reentry. Conversely, judges sentenced minority drug dealers more severely.
It is interesting to note that although the focus of this article was the disparity between urban and
suburban drug users and dealers, the theme overlaps with the focus in the Lurigio and Loose
(2008) and Stringer and Holland (2016) research on disparity in sentencing based on

Why I Was A Mandatory Volunteer Requirement For This Class
To be honest, when I started to dive into this whole process, I had no idea what I was truly
interested in. I was only taking this social work class a a very general way to get engaged with
the community, though I had little idea what that would mean or what it truly entailed. So when
I finally discovered that there was a mandatory volunteer requirement for this class, I was both
excited and nervous at the same time, as it would be my first time going through such a process
without my parents help. It was not until I discovered the Give Kids the World Village that I
began to get a better understanding of what this would really mean for me. To begin with, the
Give Kids the World Village was created by its Founder Henri Landwirth. Henri would
ultimately create the Give Kids the World because of the unfortunate events that happened to his
beloved Amy. Amy was a young girl who Henri cherished dearly, however Amy was suffering
from a terminal illness, leukemia, and it was her last wish was to go to the parks and meet her
favorite characters. However, due to many complications regarding travel, Amy passed away
before her dream was accomplished. From there, Henri would work towards making an
organization that would handle the costs and complications of travel, so that no other parent
should suffer his fate. [1]And thus, the Give Kids the World Village was founded, and with it, it s
only major goal. Which is simply to provide everything families need to make their trip, and to

Teen Suicide In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare once said Two households, both alike in dignity in fair Verona, where we
lay our scene from ancient grudge break to new mutiny where civil blood makes civil hands

whose misadventured piteous overthrows do with their death bury their parents strife. It was told
from the very beginning of the story, which that the end of a rival between two families, star
cross d lovers would end their lives. This makes you wonder why young people with so much
ahead of them ended their life over such little things. For Romeo and Juliet death was because of
their parent s rival. If their family could figure it out, maybe they would have lived... Show more

We care about what people say and think about ourselves. And we take it personally especially
when it comes from people we care about. But society as well, we care how the world portrays

Advantages Of Smart Watch
Smart watch vs. luxury watch, the battle for premier time A smartwatch is an automated
wristwatch which can run mobile applications, and allows one to access several functions such as
a calculator, compass, applications to book a cab and order groceries. This can also be used to
make or answer phone calls and to send text messages. There is a possibility that the luxury watch
industry may lose its customers to the smart watch industry. The luxury watches have had a high
brand value and have been a symbol of prestige, riches, status and classiness. The introduction of
smart watch by tech savvy companies such as Samsung, Motorola, Apple and Google has brought

How Does Shakespeare s King Lear And Alejandro Gonzalez...
How do Shakespeare s King Lear and Alejandro Gonzalez s Birdman use literary and film
techniques to explore the complex dynamics of power, social position, and age? Shakespeare and
Alejandro Gonzalez both successfully convey how an individual is treated due to their power,
social position, and age, in their respective texts King Learand Birdman. Both portray the main
character as an individual who has lost their power and must overcome the challenges that come of
this. These characters also must endure society s treatment of them due to their old age, especially
from their younger counterparts. The authors also exhibit how each individual is treated by society
due to their social position at the time. Both authors have the idea of... Show more content on

She then goes on to say that he is not the only one fighting to be relevant and that he is terrified,
like the rest of us, that he doesn t matter . This dialogue signifies something that the audience fears,
being forgotten by society, and further conveys this to them by exhibiting a character that this
affects. A motif of nakedness is also incorporated in the film. This occurs when Riggan is about
to perform a preview of his production. He gets locked out of the back of the theatre and must
run through the streets in only his underwear. It is this scene though that provides Riggan his
chance to become relevant, as he is filmed by a pedestrian and uploaded to YouTube. It is later
that Sam refers to this video as power for Riggan. This just shows what is classed as power in the
twenty first century, and the audience can understand this when looking at celebrities and their
dominance on social media. This motif of nakedness is also present in Shakespeare s King Lear.
In this story, Shakespeare writes of a king who gives his power to his daughters only for them to
overthrow him completely and banish him from the kingdom. However, unlike in Birdman
where the character gains power, this motif occurs to symbolize Lear s complete loss of power.
As without his lavish clothes that reveal his regal status, he is no different to a farmer. The crown
that Lear wore is also symbolic of his power. As when Lear splits his kingdom up in two for his
daughters to rule,

Estrangement In Waiting For The Barbarians By David Malouf
The Post colonial genre in litterature deals with several themes such as opression, violence, and
diffrences between civilized folks and uncivilized folks. The two novels understudy are, Waiting
for the Barbarians by J.M Coetzee and Remembering Babylon by David Malouf, each published in
1980 and 1993. It principally deals with the feeling of estrangement a man can feel when he is torn
apart between his nature and his community. It is legitimate to question what leads men to wonder
about the deeds that his community pushes him to do. To what extend a community or a power can
bring a man to a complete estrangement towards his community?
Throughout the novels there are several leitmotive that conduct the two protagonists to a complete
estrangement, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also brings the protagonists towards their estrangement.
In Malouf s novel, Gemmy is often deshumanized. Gemmy is described as being part of the
other, he is a scarecrow (3). A black ! That was the boy s first thought. We re being raided by
blacks. After so many false alarms it had come. (2). The reader is brought to see the scene
through the eyes of a child, which also emphasizes the fear. Gemmy is also referred to as it ,
which shows how much he is unworthy of being referred to as a human.
Back to Coetzee s novel with the killing and tortures of an old barbarian man and his brutalized
grandson. In the book they are referred as frank and filthy (10) by the magistrate even though the
reader perceives the growing estrangement of the magistrate towards the Empire and their
inhuman deeds. There is also the scene in the book when Colonel Joll beats naked barbarians in
front of the crowd not hatred, not blood lust, but a curiosity so intense that their body are drained
by it and only their eyes live, organs of a new and ravening appetite. (115). Here the magistrate
estrangement towards the event and the empire is at its climax. Describing the scene as an act of
atrocity proves that the magistrate is completely estranged to

Analysis Of Erasmus s Praise Of Folly
In Erasmus s Praise of Folly, Erasmus discusses how Folly is indebted into her wisdom. Folly,
the daughter of Plutus and Youth, wants to inform all of the great gods that she can bring joy to
everyone. She wanted to build an empire of her own, since there was not one built for her. Many
of the gods during that time had the perception that many women did not know what they were
talking about, and were seen as simple minded. However, Folly has the idea that people will not
be able to create or form any relationship without her power. Since Folly believes that no one
takes her serious, or any of her propositions, she wants to show everyone that life would not be
the same without her. In a sense, Folly is giving herself credit so that everyone can value her
even more. As she is talking about herself, she is giving everyone else the opportunity to see
what kind of person she really is. Erasmus states that I am the one and indeed, the only one
whose divine powers can gladden the hearts of gods and men (9). This quote explains the idea of
Folly proving to everyone that life would not be the same without her. Words such divine powers
and gladden can depict the idea that Folly is going to do whatever it takes to her point across to
the gods and everyone else. As Erasmus explains that Folly is the cause of life for everyone, he
also describes how she is the cause of human interactions. Humans bond so that they can form a
connection with one another. Folly further explains

The Affect of National Culture on Human Resources Essay
INTRODUCTION
In today s business environment, the complexity of international business has increased and
international competition has been highlighted as an essential element for multinational firms
(MNCs). Thus, in order to gain competitive advantage, various resources are utilized, such as
financial capital, technology location or human resource (HR). Moreover, HR could be seemed as
one of the most important resource which has also become a focus of attention of senior managers
in MNCs. As suggested by MacMillan(1984), MNCs can gain competitive advantage through use
of HR practice, such as training, compensation, socialization, selection, performance appraisal and
career development, as long as other firms are unable to duplicate their ... Show more content on

Based on Hofstede s (1993) definition of national culture, it is stated that national culture is the
software of the mind, and it is deeply embedded in everyday life and fairly resistant to change.
Moreover, it is confirmed that national culture has a significant relationship with HR policies and
practice (Hofstede, 1993). Also, Earley (1994) demonstrated that national cultural values that
reinforce HR are more likely to yield predictable behaviour and better performances. This is because
a national culture is usually characterized by the values of the people who belong to that culture, so
well HR practices are consistent with existing behaviour expectations and routines that transcend
the workplace. Employees are not distracted from work if HR practices are consistent with national
cultural value. The various values had been grouped, by Schuler and Jackson (1994), into four
categories, work goal importance, need deficiency, fulfillment, and job satisfaction, managerial and
organizational variables, and work role and interpersonal orientation. Furthermore, Hofstede (1993)
has presented four largely independent dimensions of differences among national values systems,
which were labeled Power Distance , Uncertainty Avoidance, Individualism vs. Collectivism, and
Masculinity vs. Femininity.
1. Power Distance, indicates the extent to which the fact that power is distributed unequally is
accepted in the society by those who do and do not possess power.

Negative Impact On Social Media
Social Media today seems like it is always compared to a drug, a lot of people are addicted to it.
Considering where technology is right now we aren t addicted to Social Media, it just turns out
to be our daily essential for information that we crave for. Technology has unlocked faster
communication and the ability to spread information quickly. Which allows us to connect with
the world and discover other people s perspectives, creating a more diverse view and opinion of
topics and information. In addition, not all information is truthful, especially the widespread of
fabricated news, but with technology and social media a lot of people can fact check information
instead of getting news from mainstream media outlets that alter news to acquire more revenue.
And if Social Media is so bad, why does everyone still use it everyday? With all that said, I think
that social media impacts people, especially Millennials more positive than negative considering
that it is a powerful tool that almost everyone can use. A plethora of information with diverse
perspectives at your fingertips and accessing it in an instant. I believe that smartphones and
computers is a growing standard among Millennials now for daily living, people can find out about
news and information all around the world in an instant at the comfort of their home. In the article

From my perspective she was always taking in the environment using all of her senses, taste of

given. What surprised me though was the fact that if the object was not skin feeling and if she
did not seem to get any value out of it she took it out of her mouth and put it down right away.
Almost as if she was able to perceive that it would not feed her or do much for her. Her eyes
never were fixed on one spot for longer than a few minutes either. She constantly was looking
around, really observing everything that was around her. By two months Adeline is able to not
only stare at faces but also start to perceived them and by three months, she will start to focus
more on the eyes and mouths (Book, 98). She is already at the three month mark though, as both
her mother and I took turns making a smiley face and then a frowny face to which she changed
her reaction. When we smiled her eyes opened up bigger and she had a social smile on her face.
When we frowned she did not smile and got a look of sadness on her face as well. You could tell
cognitively that she was really starting to perceive and interpret what our faces meant. Hearing,
which develops in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, was another way she took in her environment

Solitary Confinement Is A Form Of Imprisonment
Solitary confinement is a form of imprisonment in which an inmate is isolated from any human
contact, often with the exception of members of prison staff. Inmates are placed in isolation for
many reasons; as punishment, while they are under investigation, as a mechanism for behavior
modification, when suspected of gang involvement, or as retribution for political activism
(Crabapple Molly). To be in solitary confinement means being behind a solid steel door for 23 to
24 hours out of the day.
There are more than 80,000 prisoners in solitary confinement in prisons across the United States,
according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Prisoners are often confined for months or even years.
Some may spend more than 25 years in segregated prison settings ( Solitary confinement facts )
Being confined for such long periods of time tends to take a toll on a person s mental status.
Researchers have found little to suggest that extreme isolation is good for a person s psyche. In
one notorious study from the 1950s, University of Wisconsin psychologist Harry Harlow placed
rhesus monkeys inside a custom designed solitary chamber nicknamed the pit of despair. It was
Shaped like an inverted pyramid, the chamber had slippery sides that made climbing out
impossible. After a day or two, Harlow wrote, most subjects typically assume a hunched position in
a corner of the bottom of the apparatus. One might presume at this point that they find their
situation to be hopeless. Harlow also found

Economic Globalization And The Global Economy
Since the development of the Internet and other communication sharing technology, the push for
free trade agreements, and the sustaining of a prolonged period of international peace, globalization
has rapidly taken over political discourse and dealings. The emphasis, in recent decades, has been
towards economic globalizationwith the push for international stock exchanges, and the
development of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and the World Trade
Organization(WTO). Economic globalization is the development of an interdependent and
integrated global economy of independent nation s economies. It occurs through the development
of cross border movement of technology, capital, labour, services, and products. Economic
globalization is a product of neo liberal capitalist market values. The capitalist global economy has
lead to an apparent improved global market however the burden of the economic nature of
globalization has developed into a dilemma of environmental and ecological destruction. Economic
globalization has increased consumption and consumerism, continued the domination of neo
colonialism through eco imperialism, and dictated the discourse surrounding international

Algonquin Natives In Black Robe
The film Black Robe is set in New France, later known as Quebec in 1634. A young Jesuit priest
and his companion are sent through the wilderness to find the Huron Mission. They are escorted by
the Algonquin Natives. This 1500 mile journey begins in late fall and continues through the harsh
winter, leaving survival seemingly slim to impossible.
Different PerspectivesThe perspectives of both the Jesuit priest and the Algonquin Natives are both
shown. This film portrays both the Native and White men as human beings, instead of saints or
villains all have their own personal and cultural flaws, but yet they all act morally correct according
to each set of culture beliefs. The Jesuit priest (Father Laforgue) attempts to bring Catholic faith ...

It shows us a time when Christians were convinced of their rightness. I think it also gives us a
deeper understanding as to what the Natives lives were like, the hardships they went through. I
also believe the scenery, the buildings and housing, and the items the Europeans used to trade
with the Natives was shown quite accurately. As to my personal reaction to the film at first I was
on the side of Jesuit priest, cheering him on his mission, sympathizing with him in his lack of
understanding the environment and the Algonquians their language, rituals and beliefs. As the
movie progressed my opinion changed and I found the priest rather unforgiving towards Daniels
attraction and relationship to Annuka, he seem lacking in compassion when trying to get his
Christian message across and is pretty adamant and pushy trying to get Chomina to accept Christ
when he was dying, when all Chomina wanted to do was die and peace and be with his people.
As a Christian myself, I actually became rather upset and enraged with how the Europeans went in
with the idea that they were right and the Algonquians were wrong. I don t think anyone belief
system or anyone culture is more correct than another and that it was pretty arrogant and conceited
of the Europeans to believe this was the case. The Natives had a strong belief system in the earth,
wind and spirits, I don t believe they needed or wanted

Film Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel s comic book Fun Home clearly portrays the importance of gender roles in the
society. She mentions in her book incidents which illustrate as to how gender plays a major role in
forming a person s identity. Throughout the book, Bechdel suggests how the society has divided
people into different genders on the basis of appearance, duties and behavioural expectations. The
society as a whole needs to re asses these genderroles so that people don t end up ruining their life
thinking about what the society thinks.
In the beginning of the novel we see a difference of opinion between Bechdel and her dad
wherein, Bechdel wants to dress up her own way whereas her dad wants her accessories to
match her dress. This shows the importance of physical appearance in the society. Throughout
the story we see that Bechdel quarrels a lot with her family in regard to her dress code. Her
family seems to be always telling her to wear appropriate clothes according to her gender.
Bechdel seems to be annoyed with this. She states, Wearing a black dress my father had
wrestled me into, I appear to be in mourning (35). This clearly shows how opposed she is to the
way her father had forced her to dress up. She is a young child who is unaware of how gender
appearances decide the character of a person. Bechdel doesn t care about what the society thinks
about her. For her dressing up the way she wants to is most important. Another instance is when her
dad forces her to

Prostitute, A Servant, By Carmen R. Luo-Lugo
Ever since the election in 2016 in which Donald Trump won presidency in the United States,
certain individuals have been very comfortable in letting their opinionated stereotypes come out
into the world, in some places where they are not wanted. These stereotypes and prejudices exist
against all minority races: that they are lazy, not hard working, cannot speak our language,
amongst other things. It is now a common occurrence to come across a video on the internet of
racists yelling at these minority people for being in this country and other senseless reasons. These

Problems Faced By Globalization And Technological Advances
Globalisation and technological advances are pushing the managers to solve problems relating
to the functionality of the organisation. Owing to the several different and uncertain
consequences associated with the possible problem solving actions, it is critical for the manager
to choose an effective methodology, whilst considering the structure and dynamics of the
organisation (Fischer, Greiff, and Funke, 2012). From a managerial point of view, taking a
decision to solve problems is not an easy task. The problem solving process in organisations is
often led by uncertainty and vagueness, combined with the managers difficulties in developing
an appropriate problem definition, inadequate method selection or application, lack of
knowledge, or various other internal and external factors (Szarucki, 2013). With the fast paced
work culture, managers tend to ignore minor problems which might later have a serious adverse
effect on the organisation. Based on the suggestions made by Nickerson, Yen, and Mahoney
(2011) for effective problem solving, the first step I would take towards solving an
organisational problem, is to accept the fact that the problem exists. My next target would be
adopting an effective methodology to go about the problem solving process. Current research in
the problem solving techniques points towards a 4 step process, as being effective. Based on the
research carried out by Szarucki (2013) and Hunsaker and Alessandra (2008), I would adopt this 4
phase process,

Green Light In The Great Gatsby
Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent an abstract idea or object of quality, is used in
literature in order to communicate a deeper meaning of the plot. In the highly praised novel, The
Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, symbols are mentioned frequently to provide insight, such as
the glowing greenlight Gatsby finds himself mesmerized with. The green light Gatsby reaches
out to catch at the end of Daisy s dock represents he hopes and dreams he has for himself, and it
is symbolic of Daisy as his ultimate goal, not only romantically, but her money and social
standing. Fitzgerald use the greenlight as a symbol of Gatsby goal because what Gatsby wants

Essay about Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a film which conveys many interlocking themes and messages to its
viewers. One of these nicely woven themes is placing trust in the people we care about as well as
people we have only recently become acquainted with. Another message, arguably more
significant than the last is finding and pursuing the potential one has and bringing meaning into
our lives in any form we choose. I believe the potential and success this film demonstrates is that
success, growth, and meaning in a person s life does not always have to come in the form of
advancing in a career or social status but rather in the form of overcoming hardships and
developing close reciprocating relationships. The character this film is primarily centered... Show

prevailing in the Southern states of American in mid 1930 s. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird
racism is a major theme and is relevant between blacks and whites.. Racism can be defined as
prejudice, discrimination or antagonism directed against someone of a dififferent race based n
the belief that one s own race is superior. Racism is a belief that all members of same race possess
characteristics, abilities or qualities speisfic to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as
inferior or superior to another race or races. Racism in To Kill a Mockingbird can be seen in the
case of Tom Robinson and Calpurnia.

Clothes and Their Power to Transform and Create Character...
The semiotics of costume explores signs and symbols present which help create a character.
Costume is a huge tool for the performer as it can convey a great deal about the character and
places them into the setting and time period. Costume is a form of expression that allows the
performer to change the way they are perceived by the audience. Colour used in costume can also
translate a characters persona or status. Colour is often manipulated subtly by directors with mise
en scene.
Catholic church
In the Catholic Church symbolism and signs are very dominant and play a massive part in
sermons. The liturgical colours used for vestments are quite specific to the time of year. The range
of liturgical colours in the Church evolved from the spiritual significance that supports them.
Colour is very significant to the tradition of ritual of mass. The colour white is often seen to
represent innocence of the soul and purity this is heavily present in the Catholic Church in
special occasions such as Baptism, First Communion and Weddings. This could also be seen as a
performance where the person is perceived as innocent and pure so that they are ready to accept
god. The colour white is often used in performance and is seen as an angelic colour. Redis a symbol
of guilt, anger, sin, lust, passion and love across many cultures and is often linked to blood and
sex. In the bible Isiah said Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.

How Did Stalin Influence American Culture
After World War Two, Stalin s Iron Curtain descended across Europe. This was an attempt by him
to isolate and shield the Soviet Union from Western and non Soviet controlled areas. Above all,
Stalin and other Soviet leaders feared influence from The United States. Their fear was quite
justified, as Soviet people became incredibly curious and eager to borrow and emulate American
culture. Similar fears were present in other communist Eastern European countries in the Eastern
Bloc. Despite Stalin s and communist leaders attempt at isolation, Eastern European people were
still able to breach the Iron Curtain and learn about Western ideas and culture. Culture in the
Eastern Bloc became dominated by American taste and culture as early as the 1940s, but it wasn t

The Age Of Exploration And Its Impact On The Global World
The Age of Exploration is a time when Europeans started to explore the rest of the world.
Exploration is the act of searching or traveling for the purpose of discovery. Although exploration
has existed as long as human beings, its peak is seen as being during the Age of Discovery when
European navigators traveled around the world, discovering new lands cultures. The Age of global
exploration has undeniably caused more damage than progress in our current global world. It
affected every being on earth in one way or another and will continue to influence our daily life.
The Age of Exploration was rooted in new technologies and ideas growing out of the Renaissance,
these included advances in cartography, navigation, and shipbuilding. The most important
development was the invention of first the Carrack and then caravel in Iberia. These that were a

The Black Flower by Howard Bahr Essay
The Black Flower The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, at Franklin,
Tennessee, as part of the Franklin Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of
the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell
Hood s Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied
by the Union forces under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield and was unable to break through or to
prevent Schofield from a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville. The Confederate assault of six
infantry divisions containing eighteen brigades with 100 regiments numbering almost 20,000 men,

The task of defending Tennessee and the rearguard against Hood fell to Maj. Gen. George H.
Thomas, commander of the Army of the Cumberland. The principal forces available in Middle
Tennessee were IV Corps of the Army of the Cumberland, commanded by Maj. Gen. David S.
Stanley, and XXIII Corps of the Army of the Ohio, commanded by Maj. Gen. John Schofield,
with a total strength of about 30,000. Another 30,000 troops under Thomas s command were in or
moving toward Nashville. Rather than trying to chase Sherman in Georgia, Hood decided that he
would attempt a major offensive northward, even though his invading force of 39,000 would be
outnumbered by the 60,000 Union troops in Tennessee. He would move north into Tennessee,
defeat portions of Thomas s army in detail before they could concentrate, seize the important
manufacturing and supply center of Nashville, and continue north into Kentucky, possibly as far
as the Ohio River. Hood even expected to pick up 20,000 recruits from Tennessee and Kentucky
in his path of victory and then join up with Robert E. Lee s army in Virginia, a plan that historian
James M. McPherson describes as scripted in never never land. Hood spent the first three weeks of
November quietly supplying the Army of Tennessee in northern Alabama in preparation for his
offensive. The Army of Tennessee marched north from Florence, Alabama on November 21, and

Essay On African American Inequality
The African American fight for civil rights has been a time consuming conflict in the United
States of America. More than 50 years after The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed, African
Americans are still treated differently from their white peers. While some people believe that
African American equality was solved with the election of Barack Obama as President of the
United Statesof America, this is not correct. Ever since the election of President Barack Obama,
unarmed African Americans are still being murdered by their American peers, causing the Black
Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement was formed after Trayvon Martin, a
young black male, was murdered by George Zimmerman. While the 21st century is here, African
Americanracial inequalities are still a major problem. On March 15, 1965, former President,
Lyndon B. Johnson, gave a speech, We Shall Overcome in Washington, DC after the violent march
in Selma, Alabama. This speech was Lyndon B. Johnson s most memorable speech because he
spoke about getting congress to ban racial discrimination against African American s in the
voting polls. While voting is now open to people of all races, racism is still very alive in the
United States. On March 18, 2008, President Barack Obama gave a speech, A More Perfect Union

In 1642, Rembrandt composed The Night Watch, which is the background of the controversy
surrounding Rembrandt s later years. This painting is one which portrays thirty four total figures,
two of which were important members of a militia at the time, Willem van Ruytenburch and
Frans Banning Cocq. Now, because Rembrandt was proficient at his lighting and shading skills,
and the way he incorporated light and darkness to focus on certain aspects of his work, this piece
focuses on these two, but also shared by a young girl wearing yellow in the background, and
these three are the central focuses in this specific work. Eighteen members of this militia total
commissioned and paid 1,600 guilders to complete The Night Watch. Back then, this was a
tremendous amount of money. There are rumors that speculate around this painting, and one of
the most profound is that the people who commissioned him to do this painting hated it and
were disgusted by it. Some say this was the turning point in his life because he lost a lot of

not a downfall to him, experts still ponder the possibility of this leading him to a downfall. Being

Case #1: The nonreinforcement of liquidated damages
Case #: 2014 Ohio 2377, 13CA836 appeal.
Title: liquidated damages were held unenforceable.
Parties involved:
Boone Coleman Construction, Inc.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, Boone Coleman did not complete its work until 397 days after the agreed project
completion date. Upon completion, the Village paid Boone Coleman $535,823 for its work.
Boone Coleman filed suit seeking the balance of the $683,300 contract price and additional
compensation for extra work. The Village denied liability to Boone Coleman, counterclaimed for
$277,900 in liquidated damages, and moved for summary judgment in its favor.
Court Decision:
The trial court granted the motion for summary judgment, determining that the Village was not
liable to Boone Coleman, and that Boone Coleman was liable to the Village for liquidated damages.
Further Action by the parties: The general contractor, Boon Coleman, filed an appeal at the Court
Of Appeals of Ohio, Fourth Appellate District, Pike County 2014 Ohio 2377, and it was to his
favor. On appeal, the Court of Appeals of Ohio reversed the portion of the trial court s judgment that
enforced the contractual liquidated damages provision. The Court of Appeals of Ohio held that a
liquidated damages provision in a public construction contract constituted an unenforceable penalty
because the amount of liquidated damages pursued was almost a third of the original cost of the
contract which was unreasonable and disproportionate.

Competitive Interactions between Apis and Bombus Essay
The invasive European honeybees create a competitive environment for the native bumblebee as
their ecological niches (species total use of abiotic and biotic resources) overlap; thus, creating a
niche differentiation (the increase in species using resources causes a wider range of resources
being used) between the two species. The invasive and native bees exemplify a symbiotic
relationship in which interaction could possibly be detrimental to both species competition (an
interaction in which species use the same resources). Moreover, the invasive European honeybee
(Apis mellifera) decreases the population of the native bumblebee(Bombus occidentalis) in northern
California by creating a niche overlap and competition for available... Show more content on

Although it is difficult to directly exemplify the impact of invasive European honeybees on
native bumblebees through floral resources, many studies prove there is an indirect relationship
between the species concerning overlapping of their ecological niche (Thomson 2004). Diane
Thomson conducted an experiment measuring the impacts of the invasive honeybee on the
native bumblebee through competition for nectar and pollen resources. Each summer from
1998 through 2000, two to three Apis colonies (each consisting of 10,000 15,000 workers) were
introduced into three sites from early June to early September (Thomson 2004). Each Apis
colony was placed 2 km apart. For the native bumblebees, B. occidentalis colonies were located
at 10 m, 500 m, and 1000 m away from each site. Since there are three distances, and three
different sites, there were nine B. occidentalis colonies in total. The B. occidentalis species was
placed in the same location every year; however, the distance treatment was altered (Thomson
2004). To reduce the factors that may alter the results, laboratory reared colonies were used to
minimize any differences in the Bombus colonies and weighed to keep the amount consistent
(Thomson 2004). Overall, Thomson s experiment exemplified the direct effects of the invasive Apis
species on reproductive success and foraging activity of the native Bombus.
Observations showed Apis foragers declined with distances in flower patches (Thomson 2004).

Persuasive Essay On Border Security
CJ Pimentel
Mr. Cryer
English 105
23 October 2017
Persuasive Essay Rough Draft A government has the responsibility of protecting its citizens from
foreign threats. The media has recently focused on border security between the US and Mexico
due to Trump s push for a wall. Trump supporters believe that building a wall on the border would
improve border security and completely stop illegal immigration; however, this project would only
serve to make citizens believe that they are safer without effectively improving border security.
Trump s wall is an act of security theatre, the act of making someone feel more secure without
actually implementing effective measures to increase safety. The problem with illegal
immigration is not the physical boundary between the US and Mexico; the problem is how
America deals with the illegal immigrants that are already in America. Supporters of Trump s
wall believe that building a physical boundary will stop all illegal immigration between the US
and Mexico; however, increasing security on the border will not completely stop illegal
immigration. It is estimated that between twenty seven to forty percent of illegal immigrants
come to the US by plane (Greenberg). Building a wall won t stop people from legally crossing
the border by plane and then deciding to stay in America. In fact, one can logically assume that
making illegal immigration harder by land will only result in growing numbers of illegal
immigration by air. Spending billions on

Theme Of Remembrance In The Devil s Arithmetic
In the early 1940s, the Nazis, led by Adolf Hitler, wanted world domination. They invaded many
countries and sent many citizens to concentration camps. Many of those sent to the camps were
Jewish, and were murdered for their religion. Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic to remember
these events, known as the Holocaust. Jane Yolen s novel, The Devil s Arithmetic, delivers the
message of remembrance more aptly than Donna Deitch s film because of the character Rivka, the
sacrifices made, and the dehumanization.
The novel delivers the message of remembrance through Rivka s character. To begin, when Rivka
is explaining how most of her family is gone, she says, As long as we can remember, all those
gone before us live inside of us. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when Chaya is getting her number tattooed, the tattoo artist tells her, You are
Chaya no longer, child. Now you are J197241. Remember it. The people of the camp are their
numbers, something they could never forget. The string of numbers on their arm will be a
constant reminder of the pain they felt. Deitch could believe that the film dehumanized the
Jewish prisoners. She would be incorrect in thinking this because in the film, Commandant
Breuer says I m surprised at you ladies. By referring to the group of women as ladies, Breuer is
humanizing them. In addition, when the group of Jews are being escorted out of the boxcars,
Yolen writes that the dead baby was torn from its mother s arms and cast behind a horse s
watering trough. The disrespect and disregard the Nazis had for a life, even after it s gone,
enforces the need to remember this horrible

Assess The Main Features Of Communism
Communism is defined as a social, political, and economic ideology with a goal to establish a
communist society. There is an absence of social status, class, and money. In essence everyone is
one and the same. The government controls the majority if not all of the commodities, economics,
education, etc. The primary element that enables a change in the economic system is social
ownership. There are two major social classes; the first being the working class. This class works to
survive and they are the majority of the population. The capitalist class are the minority, however
they profit from employing the proletariat through private ownership. However communismaims to
replace private ownerships, and private properties. They want public ownership,

It was ordered in 1967 to advance the work of more seasoned specialists in view of capacity as opposed to age, avoid discrimination, and help take care of the issues that emerge with an aging workforce. The ADEA precludes a business from refusing to contract, firing, or for the most part discriminating against a delegate age at least 40 prepared, only on the start of age. Along these lines, a business can t deny a delegate pay or fringe benefits when the main support is age. Nor may a business portray delegates into gatherings of an age group in a way that outlandishly precludes workers from claiming work openings. For instance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Either the carbon carbon bond cleavage or the arrival of glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate involve the moderate stride of the catalysis response; on the other hand, studies show that the GAP discharge is likely the slowest step. It has been demonstrated that aldolase is restrained allosterically by oxidized glutathione, which is an oxidizing specie. The glutathione oxidizes a thiol 25 angstroms from the synergist site, which along these lines causes a drop in reactant action. Furthermore, the compound demonstrates no positive cooperativity, regardless of being an oligomer. Indeed, energy information really demonstrate that the compound displays negative cooperativity. Along these lines the catalysis is profoundly compartmentalized inside of every subunit and tying causes minimal distal change of the chemicals structure. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Donnie Darko Belonging Belonging is a perception shaped within personal, social, cultural and historical context. While to most the concept only includes acceptance and harmony, there can be two sides to belonging, and Donnie Darko explores this idea through its characters and their context in the film. Donnie Darko is set against the backdrop of the 1988 Bush vs. Dukakis Presidential election; it represents 1980 s conservative America through the last 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds of Donnie Darko s life. During the scene, Mrs Pomeroy is seated lower than Principal Cole, making him seem more powerful and while Mrs Pomeroy s body language is open and truthful, Principal Cole s is cagey and exasperated, blocked off and protected by his desk. The audience and Mrs Pomeroy know who is right, but are powerless to change anything, creating a feeling of isolation. A sense of irony is created as the most honest people in the film are labelled as mentally unstable (Donnie is diagnosed with schizophrenia) or, in Ms Pomeroy s case, unsuitable figures of authority, whereas characters such as Jim Cunningham, while famous and respected are revealed as false (Donnie burns down Jim s house to expose a kiddie porn dungeon ). While outcasts of society, they all are connected by their position, which could be seen as either a blessing or curse. To be happily oblivious to the shortcomings of society might be wistfully contemplated, however, given the choice, I don t think the characters would choose it. Except for two species of bat, there were no land mammals in New Zealand before humans arrived. So when I finally discovered that there was a mandatory volunteer requirement for this class, I was both excited and nervous at the same time, as it would be my first time going through such a process without my parents help. It was not until I discovered the Give Kids the World Village that I began to get a better understanding of what this would really mean for me. To begin with, the Give Kids the World Village was created by its Founder Henri Landwirth. Henri would ultimately create the Give Kids the World because of the unfortunate events that happened to his beloved Amy. Amy was a young girl who Henri cherished dearly, however Amy was suffering from a terminal illness, leukemia, and it was her last wish was to go to the parks and meet her favorite characters. Folly, the daughter of Plutus and Youth, wants to inform all of the great gods that she can bring joy to everyone. She wanted to build an empire of her own, since there was not one built for her. Many of the gods during that time had the perception that many women did not know what they were talking about, and were seen as simple minded. However, Folly has the idea that people will not be able to create or form any relationship without her power. Since Folly believes that no one takes her serious, or any of her propositions, she wants to show everyone that life would not be the same without her. In a sense, Folly is giving herself credit so that everyone can value her even more. As she is talking about herself, she is giving everyone else the opportunity to see what kind of person she really is. Erasmus states that I am the one and indeed, the only one whose divine powers can gladden the hearts of gods and men (9). This quote explains the idea of Folly proving to everyone that life would not be the same without her. Words such divine powers and gladden can depict the idea that Folly is going to do whatever it takes to her point across to the gods and everyone else. Moreover, it is confirmed that national culture has a significant relationship with HR policies and practice (Hofstede, 1993). Also, Earley (1994) demonstrated that national cultural values that reinforce HR are more likely to yield predictable behaviour and better performances. This is because a national culture is usually characterized by the values of the people who belong to that culture, so well HR practices are consistent with existing behaviour expectations and routines that transcend the workplace. Employees are not distracted from work if HR practices are consistent with national cultural value. Solitary Confinement Is A Form Of Imprisonment Solitary confinement is a form of imprisonment in which an inmate is isolated from any human contact, often with the exception of members of prison staff. Inmates are placed in isolation for many reasons; as punishment, while they are under investigation, as a mechanism for behavior modification, when suspected of gang involvement, or as retribution for political activism (Crabapple Molly). To be in solitary confinement means being behind a solid steel door for 23 to 24 hours out of the day. In the beginning of the novel we see a difference of opinion between Bechdel and her dad wherein, Bechdel wants to dress up her own way whereas her dad wants her accessories to match her dress. This shows the importance of physical appearance in the society. Throughout the story we see that Bechdel quarrels a lot with her family in regard to her dress code. Her family seems to be always telling her to wear appropriate clothes according to her gender. Bechdel seems to be annoyed with this. She states, Wearing a black dress my father had wrestled me into, I appear to be in mourning (35). This clearly shows how opposed she is to the way her father had forced her to dress up. She is a young child who is unaware of how gender appearances decide the character of a person. Bechdel doesn t care about what the society thinks about her. For her dressing up the way she wants to is most important. Another instance is when her dad forces her to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Luo-Lugo Ever since the election in 2016 in which Donald Trump won presidency in the United States, certain individuals have been very comfortable in letting their opinionated stereotypes come out into the world, in some places where they are not wanted. These stereotypes and prejudices exist against all minority races: that they are lazy, not hard working, cannot speak our language, amongst other things. It is now a common occurrence to come across a video on the internet of racists yelling at these minority people for being in this country and other senseless reasons. Problems Faced By Globalization And Technological Advances Globalisation and technological advances are pushing the managers to solve problems relating to the functionality of the organisation. Owing to the several different and uncertain consequences associated with the possible problem solving actions, it is critical for the manager to choose an effective methodology, whilst considering the structure and dynamics of the organisation (Fischer, Greiff, and Funke, 2012). From a managerial point of view, taking a decision to solve problems is not an easy task. The problem solving process in organisations is often led by uncertainty and vagueness, combined with the managers difficulties in developing an appropriate problem definition, inadequate method selection or application, lack of knowledge, or various other internal and external factors (Szarucki, 2013). With the fast paced work culture, managers tend to ignore minor problems which might later have a serious adverse effect on the organisation. Based on the suggestions made by Nickerson, Yen, and Mahoney (2011) for effective problem solving, the first step I would take towards solving an organisational problem, is to accept the fact that the problem exists. My next target would be adopting an effective methodology to go about the problem solving process. Current research in the problem solving techniques points towards a 4 step process, as being effective. Based on the research carried out by Szarucki (2013) and Hunsaker and Alessandra (2008), I would adopt this 4 phase process, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gen. John Schofield, with a total strength of about 30,000. Another 30,000 troops under Thomas s command were in or moving toward Nashville. Rather than trying to chase Sherman in Georgia, Hood decided that he would attempt a major offensive northward, even though his invading force of 39,000 would be outnumbered by the 60,000 Union troops in Tennessee. He would move north into Tennessee, defeat portions of Thomas s army in detail before they could concentrate, seize the important manufacturing and supply center of Nashville, and continue north into Kentucky, possibly as far as the Ohio River. Each summer from 1998 through 2000, two to three Apis colonies (each consisting of 10,000 15,000 workers) were introduced into three sites from early June to early September (Thomson 2004). To reduce the factors that may alter the results, laboratory reared colonies were used to minimize any differences in the Bombus colonies and weighed to keep the amount consistent (Thomson 2004). Overall, Thomson s experiment exemplified the direct effects of the invasive Apis species on reproductive success and foraging activity of the native Bombus. Observations showed Apis foragers declined with distances in flower patches (Thomson 2004). Simply, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Persuasive Essay On Border Security CJ Pimentel Mr. Cryer English 105 23 October 2017 Persuasive Essay Rough Draft A government has the responsibility of protecting its citizens from foreign threats. The media has recently focused on border security between the US and Mexico due to Trump s push for a wall. Trump supporters believe that building a wall on the border would improve border security and completely stop illegal immigration; however, this project would only serve to make citizens believe that they are safer without effectively improving border security. Trump s wall is an act of security theatre, the act of making someone feel more secure without actually implementing effective measures to increase safety. The problem with illegal immigration is not the physical boundary between the US and Mexico; the problem is how America deals with the illegal immigrants that are already in America. Supporters of Trump s wall believe that building a physical boundary will stop all illegal immigration between the US and Mexico; however, increasing security on the border will not completely stop illegal immigration. It is estimated that between twenty seven to forty percent of illegal immigrants come to the US by plane (Greenberg). Building a wall won t stop people from legally crossing the border by plane and then deciding to stay in America. In fact, one can logically assume that making illegal immigration harder by land will only result in growing numbers of illegal immigration by air. Spending billions on ... • 45. Theme Of Remembrance In The Devil s Arithmetic In the early 1940s, the Nazis, led by Adolf Hitler, wanted world domination. They invaded many countries and sent many citizens to concentration camps. Many of those sent to the camps were Jewish, and were murdered for their religion. Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic to remember these events, known as the Holocaust. Jane Yolen s novel, The Devil s Arithmetic, delivers the message of remembrance more aptly than Donna Deitch s film because of the character Rivka, the sacrifices made, and the dehumanization. The novel delivers the message of remembrance through Rivka s character. To begin, when Rivka is explaining how most of her family is gone, she says, As long as we can remember, all those gone before us live inside of us. Throughout ... The people of the camp are their numbers, something they could never forget. The string of numbers on their arm will be a constant reminder of the pain they felt. Deitch could believe that the film dehumanized the Jewish prisoners. She would be incorrect in thinking this because in the film, Commandant Breuer says I m surprised at you ladies. By referring to the group of women as ladies, Breuer is humanizing them. In addition, when the group of Jews are being escorted out of the boxcars, Yolen writes that the dead baby was torn from its mother s arms and cast behind a horse s watering trough. The disrespect and disregard the Nazis had for a life, even after it s gone, enforces the need to remember this horrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
