The Hawala Extortion Method
HAWALA INTRODUCTION [pic] Among the methods terrorists worldwide use to move money from
regions that finance them to target countries some hardly leave any traceable trail. As regulators
learned recently, one of the weak points in the payments chain through which illicit funds can enter is
a system of traditional trust based banking originating in southern Asia which is known as hawala. The
word hawala is Hindi meaning trust or exchange . Often used in relation with the word hundi which
stands for bill of exchange hawala is an unofficial alternative remittance and money exchange system
enabling the transfer of funds without their actual physical move. Traditional financial institutions

For instance, in May and June 2001 the State Bank of Pakistan was said to have turned to hawala
shops in Islamabad to buy dollars in order to support the own currency. Even top ranking Western
corporations turn to hawaladers for transactions to regions without a modern western style banking
system. In several OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) member
countries, licensed traders legally perform hawala. OECD Member Countries (And Year of joining)

The Dark Night And The Clown Prince Of Crime Essay
The Dark Night and The Clown Prince of Crime
All it takes is one bad day. Batman: The Killing Joke, 2016.
Batman and the Joker are not usually seen as comparable characters. However, there are similarities
that are often overlooked. Firstly, one needs to know what their origins are. Joker s origins are not as
well known and typically never stay the same throughout movies and comics. Batman s origin is very
well known and typically stays the same throughout movies and comics. To illustrate, while walking
home from a cinema, Bruce Wayne s mother and father, Martha and Thomas, walked into the
infamous crime alley. There, an unknown robber shot and killed both of them. Bruce swore to avenge
his parent s death. Soon after, a friend of Martha and Thomas Wayne, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, along
with the Wayne family s butler, Alfred Pennyworth, made out a plan for Bruce where he would not
have to be taken by Gotham s Social Services. Instead, the two helped young Bruce realize his destiny
in becoming one of Gotham s finest heroes. One of the most commonly known origins of the Joker is
the one that is featured in Batman: Killing Joke, The Issue #1. In the comic, during flashbacks, the
Joker is an unnamed engineer who has quit his job at a chemical plant to pursue his dreams of
becoming a stand up comedian. Knowing that he is not great at his job, his pregnant wife, Jeannie,
confronts him and tells him that with that job, he will not make enough money to pay the rent or

Essay on Art History
In the early 1700s, the monarchies failures at finance, national debt, involvement in multiple wars
with little care given to veterans and rising unemployment inflamed the people. When coupled with
the monarchies lifestyles of lavish spending on countless mistresses, flouting morals, excessive parties
at court, and political favors, the popularity of royalty was quickly disintegrating. The irresponsibility
of the aristocracy was no longer ignored, and a movement was beginning. This set the stage for
political change.
Writers such as Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) and John Locke (1632 1704) of England experienced
these changes and began exploring the ideals of republicanism and liberalism through their writing.
Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It did not take long for the ideas to spread through Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain,
Portugal, and the American Colonies. The American Revolution began in 1775, and Thomas Paine
wrote Common Sense in January of 1776. Voltaire who had written thousands of letters, books, and
pamphlets finished his Dictionnaire Philosophique in 1764, and the French Revolution began in 1789.
As these social, political, and moral views changed, so too did the style the arts used to communicate
life. It was during this Age of Enlightenment that the Neoclassical era in art history began by
reflecting these changing views using a style much less ornate and gilded than the Baroque and
Rococo styles that had previously dominated artistic endeavors. Strict adherence to simple classical
style with an aim to technical perfection was favored and borrowed heavily from Greek and Roman
pieces discovered earlier in the 1700s. Art was approached with the same logic and reason of the age
and with much less emotion and drama than Baroque or Rococo.
The subject matter was often dark and serious, morally and ethically upright, or heroic. Where the
aristocracy had valued drama, emotion, and grandeur, the people now valued self denial and self
sacrifice over self indulgence. The colors were often dark or solemn and made use of chiaroscuro,

The World Of World History
Glimpse of World History, features a span of perspective of the world as it develops throughout time
to where it was presented. Nehru, while in prison, tried to find a bond with his daughter. In order to
connect to the outside world and be close with his daughter, he decided to share his vast knowledge of
the world through letters with his daughter. Nehru explores how time chases, how civilizations grow
and prosper, and how different leaders shape the world in negative and positive view points and in
many other ways. Nehru wants his daughter and ultimately others reading his book to have an open
mind to the different perspective.
A theme that stood out to me is that men are greedy and only look out for their own well beings. I
agree with Nehru that people will always try to exploit each others weakness. People are so self
centered that they forget that their decisions impact more than themselves. Whatever you do will
shape history as you know it. It is a problem that some say the past generations were better that the
current generations. The reason for that is because it s like as time goes on we get worse or go
backwards instead of improving ourselves.
Another point to add is when people are content with what they have and with the current situation
that they are in, they refuse to think beyond the circumstances . I agree with a powerful statement that
Nehru made, Fresh waters run on, and if you stop it, it becomes stagnant. People tend to go with the
mentality,

Octopus Evolution
People have been comparing the octopus to an alien life form for years most notably mollusk expert
Martin Wells, grandson of H.G. Wells, who ate his subjects after he experimented on them.
Wells anecdotally referred to octopuses as the only alien intelligence that humans have encountered.
But try as he might, Wells who devoted his life to the study of cephalopods could not tap the origins of
the creature s intelligence.
Now, a new breakthrough in octopus genome mapping has revealed that the strange creatures have
more secrets than we ever realized.
Scientists at the University of Chicago, the University of California at Berkeley, and the Okinawa
Institute of Science and Technology have fully mapped the DNA sequencing of the Bimac octopus,
better known as the California two spot octopus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alien????? Everything Octopus
For starters, the DNA of an octopus contains nearly 10,000 more gene codes than that of a human.
Various clusters of these gene codes perform different tasks and octopus genes are specially equipped
to do very versatile things. For instance, six different octopus gene codes combine to produce an
octopus s ability to rapidly camouflage itself. Another gene type, protocadherin, allows the
development of neurons and neural transmissions.
Most mammals, including humans, only have 70 or so protocadherins. The octopus has 168. And the
octopus has one of the largest gene families devoted to development of any animal we ve mapped so
far second only to the elephant.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the DNA of an octopus is essentially like a road map where the
road signs keep hopping around. The octopus has an extremely large number of jumping genes, called
transposons, that can easily change their position in a protein chain. Researchers also found evidence
in the octopus s RNA suggesting that they can easily alter their own protein sequences. In the
researchers press release, Caroline Albertin, who co led the study,

Legacy Admission Should Not Be Allowed Since World War I
Legacy Admission As Peter Schmidt of the chronicle says, legacies originated after World War I to
support the immigrant students, particularly Jews. When it became harder to control Jewish
enrollment, in 1920 s most respected universities such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton considered
legacy status. Since then it has raised the concerns for lower class families who did not attend good
universities and their children wanted to attend but ended up not getting admission. In 2003, Senator
Edward Kennedy sought legislation to compel colleges to make public their data on legacy
admissions. It didn t pass due to higher education s powerful lobbying. Legacy admission ... Show

It shows how ivy colleges prefer legacy admissions. Although it is not illegal, but recently two legal
theories are offered under which legacy preferences could be challenged at both public and private
institutions under the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause (Ladeswki 578). The civil act
of 1866 prevents the states from giving titles of nobility. Minorities since most of elite university s
alumni belong to upper class families. Americans are concerned about such type of practices as it
creates doubt about institution s commitment to meritocracy and equal opportunity (Mullen 47). On
the contrary, three out of four Americans oppose ancestry based discrimination so they can create
equal opportunities for lower class families to get into elite colleges. According to Mullen research
shows that a candidate has a 30% chance of admission, an applicant with the exact same academic
record and extracurricular activities, but also a parent who attended the school as an undergraduate
would have 75% chance. This shows that due to legacy admission, there s less academic competition.
Moreover, many colleges claim that legacy status is just use as a tie breaker in a very close admission
call. However, according to the book affirmative action for the rich informs that the weight of legacy
preference is noteworthy, adding 160 points to candidate s record. Samuel G.

Descriptive Essay On Having A Dog
Dogs become vital to you, they are something you wouldn t ever give up. My dog, Carly has taught
me so many life lessons, even when she can t even talk. Likewise, She has taught to be a kind,
positive, selfless human being. Yes, having a dog may be challenging, stressful work, but in the end, it
s all worth it. Ever since I was a little girl I have always wanted a dog. When I was about three, my
cousins unexpectedly lost their chocolate lab, Bailey. I don t remember Bailey, but I do remember
when they brought home a yellow lab puppy named Tess. The moment I laid eyes on Tess, it sparked
something inside me and from that point on, I had a desire to one day have my own dog. I included a
dog on my Christmas and birthday lists for five years, but every year I was left with disappointment.
Nevertheless, my parents were warming up to the idea of having a dog, evaluating different breeds to
try and find a fit for our family. Eventually, my parents took us to look at dogs, but none of them
seemed to suit our needs. It was late afternoon on an enjoyable, mild June day at the baseball field. As
we commenced our journey home I realized we were headed in the wrong direction.
Where are we going? I asked, looking at my parents in confusion.
We are going to look at some puppies, Mom explained excitedly.
Realization dawned on me. We were getting a puppy! What kind of dog are we going to look at? I
questioned with excitement.
A cockapoo, stated Mom anxiously.

treatment authors Rodrigo, Rajapakse, and Jayananda (2010) explored PubMed looking for published
English articles between 1999 to 2009 with the search words, antisocial personality disorder, dissocial

understanding the neurobiology of violence and empathy, effective treatment modalities, and ethical
implications in defining at risk individuals for preventive interventions. Data sources for this review
included clinical journals, cohort studies, interventional studies, case control studies, cross sectional
analysis and epidemiological studies. The search revealed a number of interesting findings, such as the
different terminology used, treatment related issues, and the importance of early identification and
prevention of antisocial behavior. Empathy was also a targeted area. The search examined the
neurobiology of empathy and noted that the limbic system and the insula and the anterior cingulate

Government Of The People By Abraham Lincoln
INTRO
Democracy is eloquently described by Abraham Lincoln as government of the people, by the people,
for the people . The quote by Lincoln though, is perhaps the most straightforward, compelling
explanation ensuring that even the laymen understand the fundamentals of the term. The subject
matter that is required in this essay is to determine differences in the quality of democracy. This is
regarded as the dependant variable, which is the outcome that needs explanation. This can be
explained using the independent variables, the economic factors and cultural factors which will be
used to explain the phenomena of the dependant variable. 3 countries will be looked at in this essay to
explain the given theories. The countries are Tunisia, Algeria and Libya. All 3 countries have been
picked having many similarities but when it comes to the quality of democracy, they vary. All 3
countries are vastly Muslim, they border each other and they are all situated in the north Africa.
However the Polity score of each country differs with Tunisia Algeria and Libya scoring 7, 2 and 0
respectively. Libya s polity score was taken that of 2014. In measuring the difference in quality of
democracy it needs to be ensured that the countries are as similar as possible therefore enabling the
difference in the quality of democracy distinguishable.

The Importance Of A Successful Organization Is Dependent...
One of the most important aspects of a successful organization is dependent on an effective
management system. There are so many different kinds of methods for management that apply to
different organizations in order for them to advance and expand. As a manager, they must be
responsible for controlling or administering all or part of a company, meaning they have to have a
flexible time schedule and maintain high credibility. One sees their own manager as the role model of
the work place, so in all reality a manager has a lot to live up to. When this interview project was first
presented, the person I thought about was my current assistant manager at the time. I wanted to
interview someone who was around my age and was going through the same things I was, yet dealing
with a lot more responsibility of being a manager. I m considered to be a full time college student and
at the time I not only had to deal with school, but with work, my family, and friends. Since, I left my
job I reconnected with my ex manager and close friend Selene Fierro. She is 21 years old, goes to
school full time and works 40 hours a week. She holds the position for 2nd assistant manager for 2
years and has been working with Cato Fashion in Edinburg for approximately 3 years. The store has
one general manager, two assistant managers, and four part timers. The job of an assistant manager

Participants reported that undergoing training and taking security seriously reduced unauthorized
disclosures. Arachchilage and Love (2014) confirmed the need for information security training. The
researchers suggested that personnel have an insufficient amount of both knowledge and training to
mitigate threats related to information security. For instance, organizations attempt to counter
information security threats by publishing organizational policies and conducting periodic information
security training that assist in the mitigation efforts to thwart threats such as fraud, viruses, malware,
spyware, and social engineering attacks (Arachchilage Love, 2014; Chen, Ramamurthy, Wen, 2015;
Singh et al., 2013).
Aloul (2012) supports the reiteration for information security training. An aspect of securing
organizational data and information in the public school system brings about the need for information
security awareness and training due to increases in security incidents (Aloul, 2012). In addition, Aloul
(2012) added that a method for mitigating and combating the unauthorized release of PII is the
training and education of users in the arena of information security. Trinkle et al. (2014) explained that
the unauthorized release of information or information leakage can be attributed to either internal or

generalizations ultimately limit women to a very narrow identity category, consequently granting the

Building Integrated Photovoltaics For Environmental...
As petroleum, coal and natural gas have been consumed increasingly faster in recent years, alternative
energy, especially solar energy, which is potential, efficient, eco friendly and adequate, has been
applied in a variety of areas. Furthermore, Lombard, Ortiz, and Pout claimed that it is an unexpected
fact that building expend up to 40% of global energy consumption. (2008, P394) As a result, many
governments and scientists suggest utilizing building integrated photovoltaics to the public. This
article will explain the innovation of building integrated photovoltaics and describe its applications in
current buildings. It will then evaluate the contribution of building integrated photovoltaics to
environmental protection and energy saving. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is a new
method of building that applies photovoltaic materials, which are based on the photovoltaic effect, a
phenomenon in physics, photochemistry, and electrochemistry, using semiconducting materials to
convert light into electricity, to substitute for traditional materials in some portions of the building,
such as the roof and the curtain wall. (Steven, 2010) Additionally, Roberts and Guariento (2009, P11)

is not only the apparatus that producing electricity, but also a component of a building. The original

Modern Day Slavery And The Second Largest International...
Introduction
Human trafficking has been an ongoing business that can be tracked many years back. Today it is
considered to be modern day slavery and the second largest international organized crime industry. It
brings in billions of dollars annually. Often human trafficking can be defined as the forced or coerced
movement of people across national borders as well as within countries. Due to the increase of cultural
and economic globalization, human trafficking sky rockets every year. Common areas victims are
trafficked to parts of Asia, Europe and North America. Within the human trafficking sector, there are
three major subsets. Sexual trafficking, Labor trafficking, and Organ trafficking.
Sex trafficking is the largest subset within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the some of the factors stated above, I believe that human trafficking will only get worse. In
my essay, I plan to discuss how these three countries are contributing to it, what theory I used to
conduct my research and how it relates to the topic, the level of analysis/structure, sectorial processes,
and my future prediction of human trafficking. Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling are often
confused. There is a distinct difference between the two. According to the United States Department
of States human smuggling is the facilitation, transportation, attempted transportation or illegal entry
of a person(s) across an international border, in violation of one or more countries laws, either
clandestinely or through deception, such as the use of fraudulent documents. Human Trafficking is the
trafficking of persons for the purpose of committing commercial sex acts, or to subject them to
involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery.
Structure/Level of Analysis/ Theory Although human trafficking is a global issue, the level of analysis
I chose was regional. In this paper I am focusing on the Mekong region, where Vietnam, Cambodia,
and Thailand are located. This region has a high amount of women and children that are trafficked into
the sex industry. The theory I chose for this topic is Kenneth Waltz. Waltz is a neorealist and examines
the international system from a top down view. He also looks at the behavior of states,

Sex And The City Chapter 4
As the professor stated, chapter 4 is indeed an interesting chapter. While reading this chapter I related
it to the famous television show Sex and The City. This tv show depicts New York City as the city that
loves sex, fame and the social life. Dating nowadays is not the same, courting is no longer a thing and
one night stands has become even more popular. Both women and men pay more attention to the
status of the person, body figure, where he or she may reside, the fancy clothes and so on rather than
who the person is and getting to know them more. I know many of us, including myself might get side
tracked at become attracted to his or her body or looks rather than the person physically. However, it is
up to us to become focus again a make that decision wether we are 100 percent attracted to the person

How Does Brian Use Survival Techniques In Hatchet
In Hatchet Brian uses many different survival techniques to make it through alive. These are the
approaches Brian uses to survive: Brian used trial and error, he never threw anything away, and Brian
never felt sorry for himself. Brian used trial and error which means Brian would try something and if
it did not work he would try again. For example when the pilot died Brian had to drive the plane and
he had to keep pushing the wheel in, then out. This is what the author wrote, He gave the wheel a tug
and it slid back toward him easily. Too easily. Then it says, He pushed the wheel back in, went too far
this time. Too much. Also Brian used trial and error when he formed his bow and arrow because his

One way he used this was when he used his ripped windbreaker as a bag to carry things such as
berries in. I know this because in the text it states, He made a carrying pouch of his torn windbreaker
and kept picking berries. Also, at first Brian thought his twenty dollar bill was worthless but he used
that and his hatchet to make a fire. Lastly in the last chapter Brian thought the emergency transmitter
was broken and did not work so he set it aside, but since he left it turned on by accident he was saved.
I know this is true because the story says, He turned the switch back and forth a few times but nothing
happened He couldn t even hear static so, as with the rifle, he set it against the wall and went back to
the bag. One more way I know Brian never threw anything away is his digital watch. The text states,
He had a digital watch still on his wrist but it was broken from the crash the little screen blank and he
took it off and almost threw it away but stopped the hand in motion and lay the watch on the ground
with the rest of it. As much as Brian saved he still did not have much, but did he feel sorry for

Gilgamesh and Enkidu were the strongest, so when they met each other they faught together.
Gilgamesh is two/thirds god and one/third man.Glgamesh and Enkidu were such good heros that they

friend if they convince you to do bad things.
First in the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh and Enkidu meet. The main characters of the story of The
epic of Gilgamesh are Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and the gods. The text states GILGAMESH went abroad in
the world, but he met with none who could withstand his mighty. This means that there was not one
person who tried to fight against gilgamesh and win. Until the text states the goddess conceived an
image in her mind. She dipped her hands in water and pinched off day, she let it fall in the wilderness,
and noble Enkidu was created. There was virtue in him of the god of war, of Ninurta himself. This is
how Gilgamesh and Enkidu meet. Next, we meet Enkidu before they fight. The text states Enkidu ate

Rhinovirus Inducing Wheezing And Asthma Exacerbation
Rhinovirus Inducing Wheezing And Asthma Exacerbation In Children
A respiratory viral infection plays a major role in important aspects of asthma and its exacerbation;
which is nearly associated for about 80% of overall respiratory condition. Viral pathogen associated
with wheezing includes Human Rhinovirus (HRV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Parainfluenza,
and coronavirus (Busse Lemanske. 2010).
Rhinovirus is associated with common colds that may cause sore throat, sinus infection, ear infection
and to some degree of bronchiolitis and pneumonia (American Academy of Pediatrics. 2015). This
type of cold can happen at any time of the year but most common during winter or spring. The goal of
managing Rhinovirus is to prevent exacerbation in children, preventing the disease excludes the
ability of the exacerbating asthma for fatal outcome.
The purpose of the paper is to critically assess and manage using recently published guidelines on
predicting asthma exacerbation in children in relation to respiratory viral infection more specifically to
Rhinovirus.
Epidemiology, signs and symptoms of rhinovirus, asthma and asthma exacerbation Asthma is the most
common chronic disorders in all age group, there is about 7.1 million of children each year were
diagnosed with asthma (CDC, 2012). Exacerbation was accounted for about 700,000 emergency

Fred Astaire s Ability To Dance
Fred Astaire, a well known stage and film dancer, is considered to be one of the best American dancers
of all time. His classiness and his ability to be light on his feet developed the musical film industry
into what it is today. Astaire s dancing style seemed effortless with exceptionally fast footwork.
However, his grace required endless hours of practice, but it wasn t all for nothing. There wasn t a
movie back in the 1920 s that didn t require some form of dancing and his ability to look classy
eventually landed him a signature role. Gene Kelly, a world famous Irish dancer said, he can give
people pleasure just by walking across the floor. In his younger years, Fred was considered to be frail
and weak in comparison to other boys of his age. His mother, Johanna Geilus, was his initial push into
dancing hoping he would develop a greater athletic figure. Over time, his ability to dance began to
come naturally and complimented that of his sister s style. Fred was considered to be more of an

AntiTrust Laws Essay
AntiTrust Laws Introduction
Competition in economics is rivalry in supplying or acquiring an economic service or good. Sellers
compete with other sellers, and buyers with other buyers. In its perfect form, there is competition
among many small buyers and sellers, none of whom is too large to affect the market as a whole; in
practice, competition is often reduced by a great variety of limitations, including monopolies. The
monopoly, a limit on competition, is an example of market failure. Competition among merchants in
foreign trade was common in ancient times, and it has been a characteristic of mercantile and
industrial expansion since the Middle Ages. By the 19th century, classical economic theorists had
come to regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the Maryland State Constitution in 1776 stated that Monopolies are odious, contrary to
the spirit of free government... and ought not to be suffered .
With the support of President Benjamin Harrison, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act in 1890.
John Sherman, a lawyer and senator from Ohio, was the author of this legislation that attempted to
curb the growth of monopolies. The act declared illegal any business combination that sought to
restrain trade or commerce. Penalties for violation of the act included a $5,000 fine or/and a year s
imprisonment. The act was unable to achieve its original objectives.
Despite its good intentions, the Act didn t hit all its targets. The Act emerged as a somewhat tenuous
plan to break up the big business monopolies. The weaknesses of the Act are described by Chief
Justice Stone: The prohibitions of the Sherman Act were not stated in terms of precision or of crystal
clarity and the Act itself does not define them. In consequence of the vagueness of its language,
perhaps not uncalculated, the courts have been left to give content to the statute, and in the
performance of that function it is inappropriate that courts should interpret its words in the light of its
legislative history and of the particular evils at which the legislation was aimed. Ultimately, there

Arsenic Research Papers
Brianna Cross 10/28/16 Chemistry Essay Arsenic Arsenic is one of the most toxic elements that can be
found on Earth. Arsenic has a symbol of As and an atomic number of 33. It is a metalloid which gives
it both metal and nonmetal characteristics. Arsenic has many allotropes, but the gray form is important
for industry. The three main allotropes are metallic gray, black, and yellow. Gray arsenic is brittle and
has a low hardness (based on the Moh s hardness scale) yet a high density. Yellow arsenic is soft and
waxy. It is least dense and most toxic. It is also transformed into gray arsenic by light. Black arsenic is
brittle and glassy. It is a poor electrical conductor as well. Inorganic and organic compounds of arsenic
are found in many places among the earth. Arsenic is discovered in the environment from both nature
and certain human activities. Arsenic is usually found in soils, sediments, and groundwater. The
process of mining, ore smelting, and industrial use of arsenic can result in these inorganic compounds
meeting the surface. Organic arsenic compounds are found in fish, shellfish and ... Show more content

The Lady Tasting Te Summary
The Lady Tasting Tea: Summary of the book
The lady tasting tea takes the reader on a fascinating trip in the history of the statistical revolution. The
contributions of many brilliant minds to the field of statistics as well as their personal lives and
historical perspectives were described.
The story began in a sunny afternoon in Cambridge in the 1920s. A group of scientists was having a
tea party when a lady claimed that there was a difference in taste between the cups where tea was
poured into milk and the cups where milk was poured into tea. Sir Ronald Fisher who became a
famous statistician suggested an experiment to test the lady s hypothesis. The story then goes to the
1890s when the statistical revolution started. Karl Pearson was considered by many as the founder of
mathematical statistics. Pearson discovered the skew distributions stating that they would cover any
type of data scatter and he described these distributions by four numbers; mean, standard deviation,
kurtosis and symmetry. Later a Polish mathematician, Jerzy Neyman showed that Pearson s skew
distributions can not be used to explain all possible distributions. Sir Francis Galton who discovered
fingerprints was also interested in statistics and he founded a biometrical laboratory to measure height
and weights in families to find a mathematical formula that predict the height of children from the
heights of their parents. He described regression to the mean where heights of the children moved
away from

Representations Of Religion And Western Media
Representations of Religion in Western Media
Islam
There is a current obsession in western media, (during the last decade) pertaining to Islam and the
West . This current obsession is filled with negative signifiers with the global media s predominantly
negative, and to an extent racist portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Muslims are generally represented as
violent, fanatical, bigoted, or as extremists and terrorists. Media coverage of Islam related issues has
changed drastically since the start of the new millennium, both in quantity and quality. The events the
of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, cast Islam into the forefront of
global media: not only did coverage of Islam rapidly increase, particularly in news and entertainment
media, but the way in which Islam was represented by the media changed as well. The most prevalent
Islamic stereotype in western media is the radicalized Muslim insurgent, firm on waging jihad, or holy
war, against the Western world. This stereotype usually depicts violence as an inseparable part of
being Muslim, as well as the religion being a justifier for the violent actions.
An example of this kind of a negative stereotype can be seen in the character of Sayid Jarrah on ABC
s LOST. Jarrah, the only central Muslim character on the show, previously worked for the Iraqi
Republican Guard as a communications officer and interrogator, and is frequently shown using torture
techniques to extract information from prisoners.

that they were the superior race of the world and would win the war with the alliance of the Axis
Powers. Japan had held resentment towards the United States after an embargo was placed on Japan
for taking over northern French Indochina. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, they wanted to defeat
the U.S. Navy so that they could advance to Malaysia. However, Japan attacked the base knowing that
Japan is closer to Pearl Harbor than the United States. If they attacked the mainland, the United States
naval fleet would have followed them back to Japan. After thousands of American soldiers died, the
American Air Force bombed Tokyo and resulted in the ill treatment of Japanese Americans, and
Japanese citizens.

The development of the test was made in response to a French public school that wanted a method to

Alfred Binet has developed the standardized test to identify learning disabled Parisian children in the
1900s. If it possible to identify those of special needs then, it should hold responsibility today to use
this test to zoom in on the actual needs on the academic success of an individual. For example, the
scores of an individual can configure the placement of a child. The scores, for example can trigger one
s learning disability or another s gifted brain. Also, a score of one hundred and thirty indicates
exceptional intelligence, and a score below seventy translates into mental retardation. The average
score one will strike range from eighty five to one hundred. ( The Advantages of IQ Test. ) These
scores are beneficial in finding the special needs of a child. To illustrate, a child s low score can signal
the child s intake of different instructions. A child may also exceed in some skills like math or English
but lack in other skills hinting the likelihood of a slow learner. Gifted children, who may score well,
can receive special instructions or different placement in classes. ( Knowing Your IQ Is Important. )
Scientists have also used the Intelligence Quotient test to study the human behavior of an individual.

The Pros And Cons Of Direct Democracy In The United States
Direct democracy is a government in which the people decide. Direct democracy overall is a positive
thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers. Direct democracy is a form of democracy in
which the people are able to vote and form consensus on policies directly. The people have the power
of recall, which gives the public the power to remove elected officials from office before the end of
their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters are also able to help make
laws by creating ballot propositions. Propositions are ideas voters have for new laws or changes to the
constitution. Direct democracy in California started in the early 1900 s, when many citizens in
California were unhappy with the state government. The citizens then created a system of initiatives
and referendums. Initiative is a proposal for a new law and a referendum allows the citizens to vote for
or against a law that the state assembly has passed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Important Aspects Of Effective Nursing
Communication is one of the most important aspects in effective nursing. For a nurse to be successful,
communicating with patients, families, physicians, peers and ancillary departments is necessary.
Communication is not only verbal with language, words and sound, but also non verbal. Non verbal
behaviors such as touch, facial expressions, eye contact and movement, posture and silence make up
more than half of the art of communication (Giger, 2013). The population in the United States is
comprised of various cultures with different views of the meaning of non verbal communication.
Understanding the views of various cultures can create a positive and healing environment for the
patient, as well as increase patient and employee satisfaction (Starr Wallace, 2011).
Many patients feel comforted by touch; a hand on the shoulder can help to alleviate fear in the hospital
setting. Many cultures from Latin America, Spain and France are extremely affectionate and
communicate through touch (Giger, 2013). These cultures often share kisses on the cheek, hugs and
handshakes when greeting one another. As a nurse, I have experienced the embrace of a family from
Mexico showing appreciation for taking care of their loved one. It is important to understand that
other patients with different cultural backgrounds such as those from Germany and England, might
find this type of physical contact invasive and inappropriate (Giger, 2013). Therefore, it is important
for the nurse to understand the

Suicide -A Serious Issue
Suicide is a serious issue although not uncommon. Suicide can be thought of or actually done because
of different problems such as money issues, depression, or feeling alone like there is no way out.
Suicide is often thought as an easy solution, people see it as the end. Although that s even if they
succeed at it, they don t stop and think what if they fail and how they can permanently injure
themselves. Some people think that others claim they might do it to receive attention, which is
probably true but only very few times. Either way it is not worth risking. According to the centers for
disease control and prevention suicide is the eleventh cause of death among Americans overall, it is
the third leading cause of death among young people in the U.S. Young people have a tendency of
thinking if something goes wrong it s the end of the world. One of the main causes of suicide is
money. Although some people believe money is the key to happiness that is not true. In refrance to our
text book De Botton, We can regard our life as a uselessly disturbing episode in the blissful repose of
nothingness. Human existence must be a kind of error. It may be said of it, it is bad today and

About two years ago, scientists spelunked their way through the Rising Star Cave in Johnanesburg,
South Africa, hoping to find fragments of the creatures who had lived there eras before. They found
more than they had ever imagined more than 1,550 bones in a one square yard area and soon realized
that the specimens seemed humanlike. They d discovered an ancient human ancestor.
On Thursday, a team of more than 60 scientists led by American paleoanthropologist Lee Berger

entertaining things would not be around. Soccer inspired me to make soccer video edits. I have been
doing that for 2 years, I fit for this job because I am very good with editing software and I am
motivated by it. For both of these careers no special clothing is required, except in soccer I have to

The Name Says It All. Many Names Have Meanings Connected
The Name Says It All Many names have meanings connected to them, like the name Erika having the
meaning ruler. In Amara Lakhous s novel Divorce Islamic Style, there is a strong focus on the
importance of names, which are used as the first and foremost way to describe a character. These
characters, such as Christian, Sofia, and various minor characters, are described and developed
according to the names they have been given. One of the first characters we are introduced to is
Christian (alias Issa). Both Christian s birth name and spy name have meanings that represent his
character. His birth name Christian has the literal meaning of a Christian (Behind the Name). His spy
name, Issa, is the Arabic form of Jesus (Lakhous 34). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Christian listens to Saber s passions of soccer and Simona Barberini and learns about his

exhibiting the characteristics of Jesus (Issa) and ultimately the ideals a Christian is to uphold.
Christian s names are a major descriptor of his characteristics, as well as having some irony to them as
well.
Another character whose two names help describe herself is Sofia, or Safia. Sofia s birth name, Safia,
relatively means pure (Behind the Name). Her European name, Sofia, means wisdom (Behind the

see and most commonly used of the two. Sofia shows her wisdom throughout the novel. The most
often time when this is shown is when she discusses the beliefs and teachings of Islam, such as her
understanding and explanation of maktùb, where she shows a great amount of thoughtfulness in how
destiny cannot be subverted but can be changed by God (Lakhous 31 32). She understands that while
she cannot change destiny, and it will happen no matter what, it can turn out unexpectedly due to the
hand of a higher power. She also shows wisdom when understanding the battles of marriage, such as

  • 4. Essay on Art History In the early 1700s, the monarchies failures at finance, national debt, involvement in multiple wars with little care given to veterans and rising unemployment inflamed the people. When coupled with the monarchies lifestyles of lavish spending on countless mistresses, flouting morals, excessive parties at court, and political favors, the popularity of royalty was quickly disintegrating. The irresponsibility of the aristocracy was no longer ignored, and a movement was beginning. This set the stage for political change. Writers such as Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) and John Locke (1632 1704) of England experienced these changes and began exploring the ideals of republicanism and liberalism through their writing. Thus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It did not take long for the ideas to spread through Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the American Colonies. The American Revolution began in 1775, and Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense in January of 1776. Voltaire who had written thousands of letters, books, and pamphlets finished his Dictionnaire Philosophique in 1764, and the French Revolution began in 1789. As these social, political, and moral views changed, so too did the style the arts used to communicate life. The subject matter was often dark and serious, morally and ethically upright, or heroic. Where the aristocracy had valued drama, emotion, and grandeur, the people now valued self denial and self sacrifice over self indulgence. Nehru wants his daughter and ultimately others reading his book to have an open mind to the different perspective. A theme that stood out to me is that men are greedy and only look out for their own well beings. I agree with Nehru that people will always try to exploit each others weakness. People are so self centered that they forget that their decisions impact more than themselves. Whatever you do will shape history as you know it. It is a problem that some say the past generations were better that the current generations. The reason for that is because it s like as time goes on we get worse or go backwards instead of improving ourselves. Another point to add is when people are content with what they have and with the current situation that they are in, they refuse to think beyond the circumstances . I agree with a powerful statement that Nehru made, Fresh waters run on, and if you stop it, it becomes stagnant. People tend to go with the mentality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Octopus Evolution People have been comparing the octopus to an alien life form for years most notably mollusk expert Martin Wells, grandson of H.G. Wells, who ate his subjects after he experimented on them. Wells anecdotally referred to octopuses as the only alien intelligence that humans have encountered. But try as he might, Wells who devoted his life to the study of cephalopods could not tap the origins of the creature s intelligence. Now, a new breakthrough in octopus genome mapping has revealed that the strange creatures have more secrets than we ever realized. Scientists at the University of Chicago, the University of California at Berkeley, and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology have fully mapped the DNA sequencing of the Bimac octopus, better known as the California two spot octopus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alien????? Everything Octopus For starters, the DNA of an octopus contains nearly 10,000 more gene codes than that of a human. Various clusters of these gene codes perform different tasks and octopus genes are specially equipped to do very versatile things. For instance, six different octopus gene codes combine to produce an octopus s ability to rapidly camouflage itself. Another gene type, protocadherin, allows the development of neurons and neural transmissions. Most mammals, including humans, only have 70 or so protocadherins. The octopus has 168. And the octopus has one of the largest gene families devoted to development of any animal we ve mapped so far second only to the elephant. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the DNA of an octopus is essentially like a road map where the road signs keep hopping around. The octopus has an extremely large number of jumping genes, called transposons, that can easily change their position in a protein chain. Researchers also found evidence in the octopus s RNA suggesting that they can easily alter their own protein sequences. In the researchers press release, Caroline Albertin, who co led the study, ... When it became harder to control Jewish enrollment, in 1920 s most respected universities such as Harvard, Yale and Princeton considered legacy status. Since then it has raised the concerns for lower class families who did not attend good universities and their children wanted to attend but ended up not getting admission. Americans are concerned about such type of practices as it creates doubt about institution s commitment to meritocracy and equal opportunity (Mullen 47). On the contrary, three out of four Americans oppose ancestry based discrimination so they can create equal opportunities for lower class families to get into elite colleges. According to Mullen research shows that a candidate has a 30% chance of admission, an applicant with the exact same academic record and extracurricular activities, but also a parent who attended the school as an undergraduate would have 75% chance. This shows that due to legacy admission, there s less academic competition. Moreover, many colleges claim that legacy status is just use as a tie breaker in a very close admission call. Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling are often confused. There is a distinct difference between the two. The monopoly, a limit on competition, is an example of market failure. Competition among merchants in foreign trade was common in ancient times, and it has been a characteristic of mercantile and industrial expansion since the Middle Ages. By the 19th century, classical economic theorists had come to regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the Maryland State Constitution in 1776 stated that Monopolies are odious, contrary to the spirit of free government... and ought not to be suffered . With the support of President Benjamin Harrison, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act in 1890. John Sherman, a lawyer and senator from Ohio, was the author of this legislation that attempted to curb the growth of monopolies. The act declared illegal any business combination that sought to restrain trade or commerce. Penalties for violation of the act included a $5,000 fine or/and a year s imprisonment. The act was unable to achieve its original objectives. Despite its good intentions, the Act didn t hit all its targets. The Act emerged as a somewhat tenuous plan to break up the big business monopolies. The weaknesses of the Act are described by Chief Justice Stone: The prohibitions of the Sherman Act were not stated in terms of precision or of crystal clarity and the Act itself does not define them. In consequence of the vagueness of its language, perhaps not uncalculated, the courts have been left to give content to the statute, and in the performance of that function it is inappropriate that courts should interpret its words in the light of its legislative history and of the particular evils at which the legislation was aimed. Ultimately, there [was] no question that nearly everyone wanted to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Arsenic Research Papers Brianna Cross 10/28/16 Chemistry Essay Arsenic Arsenic is one of the most toxic elements that can be found on Earth. Arsenic has a symbol of As and an atomic number of 33. It is a metalloid which gives it both metal and nonmetal characteristics. Arsenic has many allotropes, but the gray form is important for industry. The three main allotropes are metallic gray, black, and yellow. Gray arsenic is brittle and has a low hardness (based on the Moh s hardness scale) yet a high density. Yellow arsenic is soft and waxy. It is least dense and most toxic. It is also transformed into gray arsenic by light. Black arsenic is brittle and glassy. It is a poor electrical conductor as well. Inorganic and organic compounds of arsenic are found in many places among the earth. Arsenic is discovered in the environment from both nature and certain human activities. Arsenic is usually found in soils, sediments, and groundwater. The process of mining, ore smelting, and industrial use of arsenic can result in these inorganic compounds meeting the surface. Organic arsenic compounds are found in fish, shellfish and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mineral forms of arsenic were known as early as the fourth century BC, but Albertus Magnus, a German scholastic, is usually credited with the discovery of the element around 1250. The compound s lack of color, odor and taste made the sinister hard to detect, as well as the distribution in nature which made it available to all classes. The symptoms of Arsenic were similar to food poisoning and other common disorders which also made it hard to figure out if it was a planned death. • 30. The Lady Tasting Te Summary The Lady Tasting Tea: Summary of the book The lady tasting tea takes the reader on a fascinating trip in the history of the statistical revolution. The contributions of many brilliant minds to the field of statistics as well as their personal lives and historical perspectives were described. The story began in a sunny afternoon in Cambridge in the 1920s. A group of scientists was having a tea party when a lady claimed that there was a difference in taste between the cups where tea was poured into milk and the cups where milk was poured into tea. Sir Ronald Fisher who became a famous statistician suggested an experiment to test the lady s hypothesis. The story then goes to the 1890s when the statistical revolution started. Karl Pearson was considered by many as the founder of mathematical statistics. Pearson discovered the skew distributions stating that they would cover any type of data scatter and he described these distributions by four numbers; mean, standard deviation, kurtosis and symmetry. Later a Polish mathematician, Jerzy Neyman showed that Pearson s skew distributions can not be used to explain all possible distributions. Sir Francis Galton who discovered fingerprints was also interested in statistics and he founded a biometrical laboratory to measure height and weights in families to find a mathematical formula that predict the height of children from the heights of their parents. He described regression to the mean where heights of the children moved away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Representations Of Religion And Western Media Representations of Religion in Western Media Islam There is a current obsession in western media, (during the last decade) pertaining to Islam and the West . This current obsession is filled with negative signifiers with the global media s predominantly negative, and to an extent racist portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Muslims are generally represented as violent, fanatical, bigoted, or as extremists and terrorists. Media coverage of Islam related issues has changed drastically since the start of the new millennium, both in quantity and quality. The events the of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, cast Islam into the forefront of global media: not only did coverage of Islam rapidly increase, particularly in news and entertainment media, but the way in which Islam was represented by the media changed as well. The most prevalent Islamic stereotype in western media is the radicalized Muslim insurgent, firm on waging jihad, or holy war, against the Western world. This stereotype usually depicts violence as an inseparable part of being Muslim, as well as the religion being a justifier for the violent actions. An example of this kind of a negative stereotype can be seen in the character of Sayid Jarrah on ABC s LOST. Jarrah, the only central Muslim character on the show, previously worked for the Iraqi Republican Guard as a communications officer and interrogator, and is frequently shown using torture techniques to extract information from prisoners. ... Direct democracy overall is a positive thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers. Direct democracy is a form of democracy in which the people are able to vote and form consensus on policies directly. The people have the power of recall, which gives the public the power to remove elected officials from office before the end of their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters are also able to help make laws by creating ballot propositions. Propositions are ideas voters have for new laws or changes to the constitution. Direct democracy in California started in the early 1900 s, when many citizens in California were unhappy with the state government. The citizens then created a system of initiatives and referendums. For a nurse to be successful, communicating with patients, families, physicians, peers and ancillary departments is necessary. Communication is not only verbal with language, words and sound, but also non verbal. Non verbal behaviors such as touch, facial expressions, eye contact and movement, posture and silence make up more than half of the art of communication (Giger, 2013). The population in the United States is comprised of various cultures with different views of the meaning of non verbal communication. Understanding the views of various cultures can create a positive and healing environment for the patient, as well as increase patient and employee satisfaction (Starr Wallace, 2011). Many patients feel comforted by touch; a hand on the shoulder can help to alleviate fear in the hospital setting. Many cultures from Latin America, Spain and France are extremely affectionate and communicate through touch (Giger, 2013). These cultures often share kisses on the cheek, hugs and handshakes when greeting one another. As a nurse, I have experienced the embrace of a family from Mexico showing appreciation for taking care of their loved one. Suicide can be thought of or actually done because of different problems such as money issues, depression, or feeling alone like there is no way out. Suicide is often thought as an easy solution, people see it as the end. Although that s even if they succeed at it, they don t stop and think what if they fail and how they can permanently injure themselves. Some people think that others claim they might do it to receive attention, which is probably true but only very few times. Either way it is not worth risking. According to the centers for disease control and prevention suicide is the eleventh cause of death among Americans overall, it is the third leading cause of death among young people in the U.S. Young people have a tendency of thinking if something goes wrong it s the end of the world. These characters, such as Christian, Sofia, and various minor characters, are described and developed according to the names they have been given. One of the first characters we are introduced to is Christian (alias Issa). Both Christian s birth name and spy name have meanings that represent his character.
