August 21, 2017 was the best Monday of my entire life. This Monday was the beginning of my
college life at UNCC. Interestingly enough, on that day, a solar eclipse was also occurring. So,

I experienced many different cultures, ethnicities and traditions when my family lived in
Thailand. We lived in a Refugee camp and it was not like an America society. Every month, a
volunteer group from a big city would aid every family in the refugee camp with bags of rice
depending on how many people are in your family. There were about ten schools in the campwhich
were public schools and Catholic schools. Schools and houses were built out of bamboo and
trees, and the buildings don t last more than a decade. Life was not easy in Thailand. Not every

Feminists such as Simone de Beauvoir who states in The Second Sex, that women are
considered the other to men. De Beauvoir notices how men have been constituted as the positive
and neutral in many societies, which leaves women to be the subordinate nothing. She states,

essentially to the male as a sexual being (De Beauvoir 3). This is how many feminists view
female circumcision, which entails three different types of surgeries. The first, clitoridectomy, is
the cutting off of the clitoris; excision is the removal of both the clitoris and the inner labia;
while infibulation, is the removal of both the inner and outer labia usually along with the clitoris
(www.who.int). It is clear that some form of sexual repression and patriarchy is opposed upon
women when they chose to undergo anyone of these types of procedures. However, with the idea
that this is done to women to suppress their sexual desires, then why are so millions of women
still choosing to have it done to them? It is clear that the tradition may impose itself upon them,
but they still have a chose of whether or not to have their vaginas reconstructed. The idea is that
many women in such cultures that have the option of having this surgery done to them do not see
it as oppressive; instead they see it as empowering. What we might find to be oppressive in nature
