College Is The Most Challenging Thing
Facing college is one of the most challenging thing that one has to deal with. Whether they deiced
to go, the different choices for college varies. Many ask themselves if they want to go to a larger
school or consider student life. One of the harder choice that one has to make about college is
deciding if they wantto dorm or commute to class. I believe that dorming in college is essential to
growing in oneself. Dorming provides the sense of familiarity to everyone, the convivence of
getting to class, and also being independent.
College is a learning experience that everyone takes in differently. One of the aspects that help
one grow as a person would be the friends you make. It is much easier to make friends if you
were dorming because you are here majority of your time. I have made plenty of friends within
my first four weeks of school. Most of them were fellow classmates and a few through dorming
in the same building. Dorming is much more convenient to get to class if one does decide to
dorm. Myself as an example, I have the comfort of getting to class within a five minute walk. I
like being on top of my things such as getting to class at least five minutes early and starting my
homework early. This gives me the feeling that I would be more prepared for whatever happens.
Living on campus could also give the student the opportunity to learn how to be independent.
Knowing that mom is going to do it mentality goes away as one learns that its his or hers

Don Delillo White Noise Analysis
Death is a vapor that seeps through the fissures of life, plunging its way into a person s
existence. Throughout White Noise, Don Delillo uses death to invoke a harrowing fear Jake
Gladney and others alike strive to elude. From power to drugs, the terror drives characters to
shroud their life with distractions and shields. Jack s influence and power as the chairman of Hitler
Studies gives him a sense that a person can be larger than death. Babette s defense is drugs,
attempting to eradicate the fearconsuming her. However, these attempts to liberate themselves from
fear was ineffective.
In a suburban town, Jack is the chairman in the department of Hitler studies and death is a
perpetual thought of his (DeLillo). For example, Jack wakes up at 3:51am in a death sweat ,
thinking about death (DeLillo, 47). Furthermore, while looking through family albums, Jack
wonders who will die first (DeLillo, 30). The fear of death wakes Jack up at night, clouding
happiness in a dark mist. As the chairman of Hitler studies, Jack uses Hitler s image and
reputation to create a veil over him in order to feel in control. Jack states that he feels
comfortable with and on top of death after explaining a part of Hitler s life to a crowd (DeLillo,
74). Moreover, Jack agrees with his friend Murray that Hitler is larger than death (DeLillo, 274).
This suggests that because Hitler brought forth great death and is still known in modern day, that
Jack believes his knowledge of Hitler protects

Examples Of Self-Realization In To Kill A Mockingbird
When you acquire self realization, you are no longer partial towards your heart and speech. This
quote means that once you gain consciousness of your actions, you start to use your head instead of
your heart. One way that this quote is demonstrated in this chapter is through Mr. Cunningham. Mr.
Cunningham was following the crowd mindlessly, and giving into mob mentality. Upon Scout
talking to Mr. Cunningham, he remembered that he was an individual, and that Atticus and Tom
Robinson were also individuals. Scout talked to Mr. Cunningham about his entailments, the hickory
nuts that he had once brought them, and how Walter was in her class. After Scout was done
talking, and asked what was the matter, it was almost as though a spell had been

A Perfect Day For Bananafish Literary Analysis
Typically, the ending of a book can be quite predicable since authors tend to be very straight
forward onto exactly is what is going on in the characters minds. On the other hand, author J.D.
Salinger decides to end his short story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish, in a shockingly and
unexpected manner. The main character, Seymour Glass, and his wife Muriel, are vacationing at a
resort in Florida. In the end of the story Seymour chooses to end his life. Although, his choice to
commit suicide appears to be a mystery his comments, behavior, and interactions towards others
throughout the story present enough evidence that Seymour was mentally unstable. Seymour s
mental state leads him to believe suicide was his last option. Seymours pychological... Show more

This happens immediately after he is in the elevator with a random woman and defensively
remarks to her, I see you re looking at my feet (9). The woman denies Seymour s accusation and
asked the car operator to let her out. Feet symbolize basic humanity; Seymour feels unaccepted by
humanity since the woman denied staring. This leads Seymour to feel alienated by society. This
incident makes it clear that Seymour is mentally unstable, and that his following actions are only
happening because of his distressed and disturbed state of mind. Once Seymour gets out of the
elevator, he enters his room and went over and sat down on the unoccupied twin bed, looked at
the girl, aimed the pistol, and fired a bullet through his right temple (9). After reading the
disheartening description of Seymour s suicide, the fact that he carried a pistol in his luggage
shows death roamed his mind, he planned this action and feels no regret. His crime against himself
shows how helpless and ill he is. Seymour is no longer the man he once may have been, his
disconnection with society affected his mental state to the point it eventually killed

Examples Of Integrity In The Great Gatsby
Nowadays, the word integrity is continually utilized to clarify the character in the literature.
Integrity by the definition in the Cambridge dictionary is: the quality of being honest . As the
dictionary indicates, usually, a lot of people utilize integrity as a synonym for the honesty, but in my
opinion, the word integrity implies much more than fair being honest. American media proprietor
Oprah Winfrey said: Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody s going to know
whether you did it or not. Hence, having integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way by
following own moral or ethical convictions in all circumstances, indeed in the event that no one is
watching. As taking after the meaning of integrity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the wealthy east coast habitat and later that night, Nick stayed outside of the Buchanans house
while waiting for a taxi back to West Egg, too disgusted with their behavior to go inside and join
them since he was the only person who pities her death and has integrity. Indeed, the clear
integrity of Nick is perceived at the end of the novel. After Gatsby s death, Nick struggled to
arrange the funeral since he alone is moved by Gatsby s death. At that point, he said, They were
careless people, Tom and Daisy they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into
the money of their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other
people clean up the mess they had made. The quote indicates how materialistic Tom and Daisy are.

New Entrants Below are several factors that invaders are difficult to enter an industry:
Economies of scale In order to compete with the established firms, Startup companies have to
operate with small margins.
Capital requirements It is very difficult for firms to enter into new ventures simply because the
capital required is too high and the existing firms need not worry about new competition.
Access to distribution channels New companies struggle to market their products and compete with
the existing competive market.
Government policy Potential firms rely on favorable government policies for their entry to the

Differentiation new firms will struggle to make an impact on customers by showcasing what makes

Comparing The Foundation Of Orthodoxy And The Canon
The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Canon For years, the dispute about what is fact and what is
opinion has been present in the church. This debate is seen, in modern day, through the different
denominations that are under the Christianity banner. Under the banner of Christianity there are
Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of God in
Christ (C.O.G.I.C), and Lutheran. Now, even though each of these denominations call themselves
Christians, their beliefs about the Christian kingdom are different. Some of the differences include
Catholics, who believe that you must confess your sins to the priest, even though the Bible, the
same bible that all Christians read out of, in the book... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, at that time, I was only 12 years old, God had not endowed me with those gifts, but when I
answered him no, he began to act differently towards me. It was from that interaction that I began
to take notice of the different teachings in different denominations. Now, I tried to deepen my
research using the Online Library, but my results continued to come back not found, but I was
able to go on line and research some things regarding the denominational differences. I was able
to find an online article that discussed the wrongs of denominationalism. In the article the writer
stated that the definition for denominationalism is the tendency to separate into religious
denominations (Copeland 2001). By this article, denominations are clearly non scriptural,
because God is about unity, for as Paul states in the book of Ephesians 4:4 6, There is one body,
and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Bibliography Copeland,

Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Summary
In Abraham Lincoln s second inaugural address, he begins voicing that there is no need for him
to have such an extended address just as he did the first time. Before his four years in office,
there was that necessary detail of what he felt must be pursued, but now he feels as though there
is still yet to be pursued as he had wished before. The public knows as much as himself when it
comes to the progression of the military, and he believes is satisfactory with entailing of high
hopes for the future. He proceeds to express that he had made his first address with the anxious
view of civil war. Americans wanted to avoid the war as much as possible but while his address
was on saving the union without conflict there were those who were planning to destroy it. Both

Mediterranean Diet Research Papers
The Mediterranean diet is one that offers seniors many satisfying foods options along with the
following five health benefits:
Improves Digestion
It s crucial that a senior maintains and keeps a smooth and regular digestive system. Foods rich in
fiber like fruits, vegetables and nuts will help keep their digestion from slowing down. Fiber rich
foods are often highlighted in the frequency chart of the Mediterranean diet and will help a senior
correct any digestion irregularities.
Boost Brain Function
A study published in Neurology observed 674 people who were close to 80 years old. They took a
survey of their eating habits over the years. Those who ate a diet like the Mediterranean diet with
low amounts of saturated fats and plenty of fish had more white and gray matter in their brain,

The Florida Conference Of Seventh Day Adventists Essay
A Storybranding Analysis of the Florida Conference of Seventh Day Adventists
The early Adventist Church emerged from a climate of religious revival in the Northeastern
United States , (Lechleitner, 2013). Its founder was the late William Miller, (Slick, n.d.). The
Church was founded based on the idea of the Second Coming of Jesus, (Church, 2013). The
Seventh Day Adventism is a Christian faith with multiple fundamental beliefs such as the Sabbath.
The Sabbath is the day in which God decided to rest after creating the Earth. For the Seventh Day
Adventists, the Sabbath is Saturday, as God rested on the Seventh Day of the week. Ellen G.
White, a woman considered one of the founding members of the Church and a prophetess,
developed another fundamental belief of how husbands should treat their wives as equal, the way
they were created to be , (Banks, 1992). As we can see, women play an important role in this
doctrine.
As the Seventh Day Adventist Church grew, they developed Conferences around the World. For the
purpose of this study, we will look into the Florida Conference. Florida Conference of Seventh day
Adventists is an unincorporated, nonprofit organisation which serves as the administrative body for
its sisterhood of churches with an emphasis on evangelism, nurturing constituents, and operating a
system of schools , (Adventist, n.d.). The Florida Conference covers 57 counties of the 67 in the
State of Florida, it also manages 206 churches, 56 companies, and at least 33

A License For Real Estate Agents Are Governed By The...
In the State of Wisconsin, exams, licensing, and continuing education for real estate agents are
governed by the Department of Regulation and Licensing, drl.wi.gov/index.htm. Much of the
licensing information pertains not only to the sale of houses, but also to anyone who wishes to
obtain any professional license, from a license to work as a security guard to a boxing license to a
license for a private investigator. There are three basic real estatelicenses in Arizona, a broker s
license and a salesperson s license, as with most other states, and an apprentice salesperson s
license. The apprentice salesperson is generally already working for a licensed Wisconsin real
estate broker and is in the process of obtaining training. Generally, a salesperson s license allows
the holder to sell real estate only under the auspices of a licensed broker. (Salesperson s licenses
are generally what people refer to when they say they have a real estate license.) To obtain the
salesperson s license, a person must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United States.
The initial questionnaire also asks whether a person, either directly or through a corporation or
other entity, has ever had a professional or business license suspended or revoked, and whether
they have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony. Answering yes to any of the questions
pertaining to personal conduct may either require additional documentation or can be grounds for

In some factors though, it could be argued that they stepped a little step forward. Being that the
people of Iran let a corrupt man named Ayatollah Khomeini into power who held rigged
elections and made decisions for the whole country without listening to their opinions. He also
created tons of protests which eventually led to violence and the deaths of some civilians. Satti
explains, ...I heard gunfire outside. Since this was no longer unusal, I was not really alarmed
(Farmaian 313.) This shows that even a day to day civilian did not care for seeing weapons on
the street being used as commonly as seeing day to day occurrences like going to the store or
going to work. The Islamic Revolution also did step backward towards the Iranian people by
how after Ayatollah Khomeini was elected into power, the riots against him started after they
stopped agreeing with him. Sati states, On December 2, 1978, Moharram arrived and during its
ten days the violence increased again. Ayatollah Khomeini exhorted everyone to unite and
sacrifice themselves in blood like Iman Hossein, until the soldiers threw away their arms to join
the people s cause. Crowds large and small filled the streets, angry men and black veiled women

The Smoke Signals By Chris Eyre
Smoke Signals, released in 1998, is a classic film that provides insight to the lives of Native
Americans living on reservations. There are very few films that attempt to portray Native
Americans at all, yet alone in a respectful manner. The characters are all played by genuine
Native American actors including: Adam Beach, Evan Adams, Irene Bedard, Gary Farmer, and
Tantoo Cardinal. Additionally, it is directed by Chris Eyre, another Native American. This film
tries to overcome stereotypes of Native Americans that are prevalent in society, and does so in a
humorous way. Smoke Signals takes the viewer along on a journey with the two main
characters, Victor and Thomas. They leave their reservation in Idaho to travel to Arizona in
order to collect Victor s father s ashes. This film is a classic because of it s timeless theme:
forgiveness. Smoke Signals portrays the theme of forgiveness by featuring Victor, a character
struggling to forgive his late father for being an alcoholic and leaving him as a child; Victor takes
Thomas along on a trek to Arizona to retrieve Victor s father s ashes. Smoke Signals is one of the
few films that accurately depicts Native American life by genuine Native American actors. This can
be attributed to the fact that it is produced by Native Americans. The 1990s were a time of
attempted political reform between the United States government and the reservation inhabitants. A
very relevant act passed by congress is The Native American Child

Pros And Cons Of Cedar Roofing
Pros and Cons of Cedar Roofing For Your Home
When a roof is in need of replacement, it is common for homeowners to replace the roof with the
materials they are familiar with. If the roof previous had asphalt shingles, then asphalt shingles will
be what the homeowner will most likely choose when they replace the roof. However, a roof
replacement is a time to put on the roofing material that you want, and you can go beyond the
materials that are considered traditional. Cedar roofing is a material that may be a great fit for
your home, but before you decide on it, you should know the pros and cons of using the material.
Pros of Cedar Roofing
There are many benefits of using cedar roofing that you may not have heard of.

Sacramental Marriage In The Catholic Church
The union between a baptized man and a baptized woman is known as a sacramental marriage in
the Catholic Church. The two people make a covenant of life and love to each other through the

called to another vocation. This sacrament requires preparation and communication between the
couple. They have many decisions that have to be made, involving how their children will be
raised. Both the man and the woman must be open to having children, have free consent to get

I believe what the Catholic church teaches. God sent us here for a reason and a sacramental
marriage is what I feel I am being called to receive. I want to get married because of the idea of
having children has always interested me. A sacramental marriage to me, means that a woman
and man will get married and stay with each other until death. I think that it is very important to
stay with the one you marry because it shows that you are not breaking a covenant that you made.
We are to live out the Paschal Mystery through marriage. There are difficult times and happy
times. The difficult times help the couple grow closer together, along with the happy ones.
Everyone has difficult times in their life and when you are married you have someone with you
through it all. This also means that I will be married for life and not get a divorce, knowing that
the Church does not acknowledge a divorce. I agree with the church s teachings because a child

that you will raise them in the faith. I believe that this is very important because we were sent here

went on quests to save people from an oppressive monster. Lancelot saved the people of
Corbenic from a dragon which was attacking their kingdom, and Theseus saved the people of
Athens from the Minotaur who needed to be fed with Athenian sacrifices. To solve these
problems, they each used their talents, swordsmanship and wrestling. Lancelot used his superior
talents with his shield and sword. He was said to use his shield to dodge the flames of the
dragon, from which the town s people ran from, and confidently sung blow with his sword till he
defeated the dragon. On the contrary, Theseus won by using his impressive wrestling skills. He
grabbed the Minotaur by its horns, and threw it to the ground, before he beat it to death with his
fists. Moreover, they both were very successful in their endeavor. Lancelot defeated the dragon
with seeming ease, and the people of Corbenic celebrated him because of it. Theseus also defeated
the Minotaur with ease, and the Athenians celebrated him for it. The difference between the heroes

The Tragedy Of King Lear, And The Sorrows Of Young Werther
Greek philosopher Aristotle wrote the book Poetics. Poetics explains what goes into a tragedy to
make a tragedy a good tragedy . Aristotle noted that there are six elements to a tragedy which are
most important. These six elements being Plot, Character, Thought, Diction, Melody, and Spectacle.
Both King Lear, and The Sorrows of Young Werther touch on numerous elements of a good tragedy
imposed by Aristotle in Poetics.
William Shakespeare s King Lear, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethes The Sorrows of Young
Werther are both tragedies, with the former being written as a play, and the latter being written as a
novel. Both fall under the genre of tragedy.
While the genre of both King Lear and The Sorrows of Young Werther may be tragedies, there is
an underlying theme that also connects the two. King Lear and The Sorrows of Young Werther are
both tragedies with love as a part of the storyline, but love affects the protagonists in different
ways. For Lear, it is a matter of love and deception, while for Werther, it is love and obsession.
Both of the protagonists have a character flaw. Lear s flaw is that he is easily deceived. Werther s
flaw is his uncontrollable emotions.
For Lear, he is deceived by his daughters, Regan and Goneril, when the two flatter Lear with
exaggerated statements about how much they love Lear. The flattering statements from Goneril and
Regan are exactly what Lear wants to hear. At the beginning stage of the play, Lear is a character
who values

Comparing The Narrator s Little Brother Doodle And An...
In the story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the author shows many similarities between the
narrator s little brother Doodle and an exotic bird. While reading through the story the young
boy is not thought very highly of. No one including, the doctors, ever thought Doodle would live
past a couple days. But Doodle did just that, he lived for 6 whole years. His parents even named
him William Armstrong, because they thought it would look good on a tombstone. His brother
later renamed him Doodle because with that kind of name no one would expect much from him.
Doodle had many obstacles growing up and didn t really fit it. While going through life Doodle
was constantly trying to prove that there was a reason for his life. Doodle s brother tried very to
have a normal little brother, so he pushed him in many ways to enable him to do normal things.
Doodle could not stand up or crawl and when he did he crawled backwards, earning him the
name Doodle. The brothers says to Doodle, Aw, come on, Doodle, I urged. You can do it. Do you
want to be different from everybody else when you start school? Does it make any difference?
It certainly does, I said. Now, come on, and I helped him up (Hurst ll. 254 527). Doodle was
expected to die hours after he was born, he couldn t even talk, crawl, or anything. The family

Summary Of La Belle Dame Sans Merci
Deceived
In John Keats La Belle Dame sans Merci, the speaker express his love for this fairy woman where
he explains, I met a lady in the meads, Full beautiful a faery s child, (13,14). But he was Lured
(33), to sleep with the woman who he thought once loved him and as she said, I love the true (28).
Why then if she love thee does he feel the darkness of horrid warning gapГЁd ? Was it all just a
dream? Or reality?
Firstly, the speaker as I assume is a man because he is talking about a lady he met which he
called her a faery s child, (14). As he said in the poem he was, Alone and palely loitering (Keats,
2), That certain stanza made me pictured a man alone with no sense of direction no sense of
love. Lonesome. But they never went into much detail on what he was doing or where he came
from. Moving on, just from a few lines into the poem the speaker s tone was coming off as
melancholy. I got the melancholy tone because the speaker seemed very sad and gloomy with
phrases as, O what can ail thee (1) almost sound like a cry for help or just a cry out of last hope.
He then goes on to say I met a lady in the meads, ( 13 ), as stated previously but, this is when the
poem turns from melancholy and alone to happy and almost hopeful.
Continuing on, in this poem the speaker became infatuated with this lady. As he said, I made a
garland for her head, And bracelets too, and fragrant zone; (17,18 ) he begins to fall for her and
starts to be very taken with her

Angel Pottery Case Paper
Angel Pottery has primarily focused on producing serving bowls and sugar bowls for customers.
The company is eager to launch a new product which will be mugs. This new product was selected
largely due to customer interest for this type of product. The goal is to produce 25 mugs per week.
The estimated cycle time of each product is twenty one days from beginning of production to
distribution to customer.
Focusing on the production of five mugs per shift and running one shift per day during a five day
work week might result in a bottleneck during the firing phase of production. This could happen
because the potter can produce more mugs per week than can be fired in one kiln firing. The kiln
can hold three shelves of four mugs for a total of twelve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Vorne, The Theory of Constraints is a methodology for identifying the most important
limiting factor (i.e. constraint) that stands in the way of achieving a goal and then systematically
improving that constraint until it is no longer the limiting factor. In manufacturing, the constraint is
often referred to as a bottleneck (2016). As the WIP collects on inventory shelves, there is greater
evidence that the kiln firing process is a bottleneck for production. This constraint in the process
could be alleviated by adding an additional kiln to the firm. Anjoran stated, One way to reduce the
impact of bottlenecks is to Adding capacity by increasing resources (men, machines...) this is often
done best with inexpensive, low tech, low complexity equipment that will be down less often than a
complex, high tech solution
(2016). In the case of Angel Pottery, the purchase of a second kiln (low tech resource) could help to
alleviate the bottleneck that exists due to limited space kiln space. Lean management could be
applied to increase productivity and improve cycle times. With the constraint of firing space
alleviated by capital expenditure on a second kiln, pull from the customer or demand will drive
production. This Kanban will help to orchestrate when and how much inventory should be

Negative Effects Of Social Media Essay
Social media in this day and age weighs heavy on our everyday lives. Society tends to spend way
too much time on their mobile devices and computers on social media of all sorts including but not
limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It can create unwanted problems in relationships,
weight gain due to lack of physical activity, It may distract you for long periods of timewithout
realizing it and delay you from real world responsibilities. Social media may be one of the
biggest issues this society has. Another issue social media causes, it makes us lazy as a whole.
We lose the ability to spell, use proper grammar, or even punctuation. One of the biggest
problems with social media is the unwanted problems in a relationship. People spend way too
much time on their devices and instead of spending their much needed free time with their
families. Using social media during family time is not good family practice. Social media may
help with some everyday activities but during family time can be unacceptable for some people
and may actually hurt their feelings. This can also make the other party feel unimportant or
ignored, creating a tense barrier in a relationship. This is something that I myself have to work
on. My family says I spend way too much time on my cell phone looking onto Facebook. One
might think that he/she doesn t spend a lot of time on the social media but we do. It can at times

Traditional Management Styles And Disciplinary Techniques...
If you do that again, you will be in big trouble! This is an exclamation that is heard all around the
world, in many different languages. It is heard in houses, schools, play groups, and many other
places. It is said by parents and teachers alike. The problem with that phrase is the consequence.
Alfie Kohnand Forrest Gathercoal are two experts in classroom management. They both believe that
traditional management stylesand disciplinary techniques need some adjustments. One can gather
from reading both Kohn s and Gathercoal s works that there is quite a large amount of sense
behind that and schools really should reexamine these practices. Kohn believes that many of the
disciplinary methods used in today s schools do not create an ethical child. Kohn (2006) tells us,
By contrast, ethical sophistication consists of some blend of principles and caring, of knowing
how one ought to act and being concerned about others. Punishment does absolutely nothing to
promote either of these things (p. 29). When children are disciplined, they will only remember
that doing whatever the wrong thing was, has the effect of discipline. This will impair them later
because they may not know why the action was wrong. It will not teach them right from wrong.
Kohn (2006) also talks about coercion. The description used is, The most basic way to get what
you want from someone, assuming you have more power than he does, is just to make him do it
(Kohn, 2006, p. 22). It is argued

Intracranial Aneurysm Research Paper
Ruptured Saccular Intracranial Aneurysm associated with Arteriovenous Malformation
Introduction
An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is an abnormal collection of blood vessels in which arterial
blood flows directly into the draining vein without the normal interposed capillaries. AVM are
tangled anastomosis of blood vessels of varying calibre in which arteriovenous shunting occurs in
a central nidus in which the area towards in which multiple feeding arteries converge and from
which enlarged vein drains.1 They have a higher rate of bleeding than normal vessels. AVMs can
occur anywhere in the body. Brain AVMs are of special concern because of the damage they cause
when they bleed. The incidence of AVM is about 1 in 100,000 per year in unselected... Show more

Another hypothesis is that these associations can accidentally exist together.20 Among these
hypothesis, the hemodynamic stress secondary to the increased blood flow of AVM plays a
significant role to provoke this coexistence of lesion.1,21 This hypothesis is supported by a report
showing that the associated aneurysms tend to be concentrated in feeding arteries which supply
AVM and the associated aneurysms may shrink in proportion to the occlusion of the AVM. 3
The incidence of intracranial aneurysms is higher in patients with intracranial AVM than in the
general population. This incidence varies from 2.7 to 23% in the literature.1, 22 Four types of

Evolution of the Brain
In Revenge of the Nerds the author, Steven Pinker, begins by arguing for his claim that there were
four main traits that helped develop primates casual reasoning that eventually led them to evolve
into the humans we are today. These four traits are vision, group living, use of hands, and hunting.
Pinker provides each trait with several reasons and factual evidence, including a chart, on its
contributions to casual reasoning. Later in the article, however, Pinker focuses on his main claim
which questions the timeline for human brain evolution. The first trait that Pinker mentions is
vision. He argues that the reason that vision makes a difference is due to depth ... Show more

Pinker provides evidence that through evolution, upright posture may have evolved under selection
pressures, eventually leading to the reshaping of our bones that allowed use of our hands. Pinker s
reason for this claim is that monkeys and gorillas, with their upright posture, have frequent use for
their hands which leads to his warrant that Precision hands and precision intelligence co evolved in
the human lineage, and the fossil record shows that hands let the way Pinker (194). Pinker believes
the last main contribution was hunting. His main reason for this claim is the nutrients that hunting
provides. Pinker mentions evidence to this statement by stating all of the advantages to eating
meat, including that this pure protein contains amino acids, energy rich fat, and dispensable fatty
acids, as well as stating how the act of hunting requires a lot of skill which helps with brain
development. His warrant for this claim is that hunting was a necessity for our ancestors, as it

Advantages Of Collective Bargaining
Discussion of collective bargaining must begin with recognizing the fundamental differences
between public and private employment. The terms and conditions of employment in the private
sector are determined by private decisions made by private parties shaped by market forces. In the
public sector, the terms and conditions of employment are public decisions made through
governmental officials and shaped by political processes as well as by market forces. In a
democratic society, this means that decisions are confined by constitutional limitations and must
ultimately reflect the will of the electorate (Summers, 2003). Organizing efforts are a constant and
much more difficult in the private sector due to the rise and fall of businesses. Once a union
organizes in the public sector, they will usually remain intact as there is no worry about the
government going out of business. Therefore, maintaining membership levels in the public sector is
not a problem. Public employees have other major advantages over their private sector counterparts
in that they are constitutionally protected, which prohibits termination or other adverse action
without good cause. In other words, they are not at will. Many of the terms and conditions of
employment such as benefits and pensions are not subject to individual or collective bargaining,
but are prescribed by statute. They also exert more power or influence over their employers by
using the political process to their advantage through the

Many official German reports had called the attacking Marines teufel hunden, meaning Devil

afterward a U.S. Marine Recruiting Poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a

The Templar Knights are often associated with the Mary Magdalene controversy. They are

Cathars were notably anti marriage and anti sex so it would seem unlikely for them to make up
this belief, or endorse it in the first place. According to Lynn Picknett [The Cathars] idea of Jesus

their part. In fact they struggled with several different theological justifications to explain the

Fear in Lord of the Flies
In the novel the Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, fear is the cause of all of the
problems that take place on the island. At first, the island is thought to be splendid and a
paradise, but as the boys stay on the island increases, so, too, do their fears. The boys soon
become afraid of each other and soon after that the boys break up and fight because of the fear. The
boys original fears are of what they think are beasts. Then people started getting frightened

Fear causes the boys on the island to break up and to fight. At first, everything is great; there are
rules that are being followed and the boys are having fun. Then a beast is mentioned and the boys
fears surface. At first, there are arguments about if there even is a beast.
This causes arguments and some tension between Jack and Ralph. Jack states that he will hunt and

beast on the mountain, that is when things go very bad. Jacks says that Ralph stayed behind on the

This showed cowardice and Jack thinks that he should become the leader; the boys once again vote

The Nacirema Analysis
While reading the Nacirema I could not help to think how different they were and question the
different rituals and customs they practiced. After finding out the meaning behind the allegory I
was shocked and surprised. I was surprised int the similarities that are visible after knowing that
the parable of the Nacirema was actually about America. My brain started making connections
to the American culture. One of the first connections that immediately made to the reading was
the part where Miner talked about how the human body was viewed as disease and an ugly
thing. How could someone view this of their own body? But that is exactly the way Americans
consciously or not view our bodys. The way that we go to the doctor often and take vitamins or
shots against viruses and disease. Often we are even required by schools that we have certain
vaccinations. This could appear different to people who do not get vaccinated as often as
Americans do. People grow up viewing everything they do on a daily basis as normal and what s

Sociological Imagination By C Wright Mills
C Wright Mills is a respected sociologist who is well known for making Max Weber s ideologies
popular within the United States. Many of his published works and his ideas are still widely
used today by understanding society in its present form. He wrote The Sociological Imagination
that was published in 1959, and part of that work emphasized on the history and biography in a
sociological context. The term biography in a social context can be defined as: events that has
happened throughout one s life because of different situations that one was put in or faced with,
causing one to have certain opportunities of make certain choices in life. For an example, a
component of a teacher s biography is that they have decided to instruct a third grade math and
science class rather than a fifth grade math and science class. This opportunity and/or decision
that this teacher made did not happen randomly, for there were certain events leading up to the
teacher s decision to instruct third grade math and science. Those events are what C Wright
Mills calls history. The term history is otherwise known as social circumstances , which is
defined as: a set of concepts that is created by a criteria or activities associated with the social
environment of a person. History can be classified as a macro level social circumstance, meaning
that it focuses on the large social groups, organizations and social systems. History can also be
classified as a micro level social circumstance, meaning

The Financial Status of PepsiCo, Inc. and Coca-Cola Essay
When looking at the financial status of PepsiCo, Inc. and Coca Cola, every dollar amount in every
column has some significance. To find out what these amounts represent a financial comparison of
both companies is required. Using financial analysis tools such as vertical analysis, horizontal
analysis, and ratio analysis, one can get a clearer picture of the financial status of each company.
Horizontal Analysis When evaluating financial statement data for a specific period of time we use
a technique call horizontal analysis. This method will show if there has been an increase or
decrease in the financial status of PepsiCo, Inc. and Coca Cola. In comparing both of these
companies I have evaluated the net revenue and net income for the ... Show more content on

This would suggest they didn t retain any income and any expansion would incur additional long
term debt for the company. The increase in both company s gross profit and net income, however,
signals a favorable profit trend.
VERTICAL ANALYSIS This financial tool can also be used to evaluate the financial status of
both PepsiCo, Inc. and Coca Cola. Vertical analysis expresses each item as a percentage of a base
amount. In comparing both companies I used this tool to evaluate their assets for the years 2004
and 2005. The base amount used for these calculations is the Total Assets of each.

Treasure Island Quotes
The book Treasure Island, first takes place in England during the mid 1700s. As the novel
continues, the setting changes from England to the port of Bristol, where Jim first meets Long
John Silver for the first time. Once at the port of Bristol Jim, the doctor, and the rest of the crew
venture to Treasure Island on the Hispaniola.
There are four important characters in Treasure Island, they are Jim Hawkins, Long John Silver,
Doctor Livesey, and Squire Trelawney. Jim Hawkins is the narrator of most of the book. He is
also the protagonist in the book. Jim is the reason why they went to look for the treasure on
Treasure Island because he was the one to find the map. Long John Silver is the antagonist in
Treasure Island. On the ship he s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drink and the devil had done for the rest Yo ho ho , and a bottle of rum! (Stevenson 16). This is
significant because it describes how pirates live their lives, of drinking rum and finding treasure.
The next ten or twelve pages were filled with a curious series of entries. There was a date at one
end of the line and at the other a sum of money, as in common accounts books, but instead of
explanatory writing, only a varying number of crosses between the two. (Stevenson 46). that s
an important quote because it s the first time Jim showed the map to the doctor and the
squire, which started the adventure to Treasure Island. Well squire...I don t put much faith in
your discoveries, as a general thing; but I will say this, John Silver suits me. (Stevenson 62).
Doctor Livesey is telling Squire Trelawney that he likes John Silver. The doctor seems to be
very trusting of other people, so for Long John Silver to trick him into believing he s an honest
man. My curiosity, in a sense, was stronger than my fear, for I could not remain where I was, but
crept back to the bank again, whence, sheltering my head behind a bush of broom, I might
command the road before our door. (Stevenson 37). This quote shows how Jim is becoming more
brave and less fearful. He s going out from under the bridge and is

Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay
Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What causes humans
to act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human
brain is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process
directly and indirectly.
The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are
released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying
messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages
carried by the hormones trigger different behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways
such as: Mental activity or tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on

Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone.
Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male
testes. These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but
high levels are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen,
most commonly found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While
high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to
aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well.
Although these hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that
these hormones alone do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005).
Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous
system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a
different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently
(Morris Maisto, 2005).
Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic traits inherited
from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual combined with a certain
environment, can affect behavior. Genetics is the science of analyzing traits inherited through
generations. These traits are determined by genes that

The Death of Creative Power in Sonnet 73 Essay
The Death of Creative Power in Sonnet 73
Most of the 127 sonnets Shakespeare wrote to one of his close male friends are united by the
theme of the overwhelming, destructive power of time, and the counterbalancing power of love
and poetry to create and preserve beauty. Sonnet 73 is no different, but it does present an intriguing
twist on this theme. Most of these sonnets address the youth and beauty of his male friend, as well
as poetry s power to immortalize them, but number 73 addresses the author s own mortality and the
friend s love for him. Also, subtly woven into this turning inward is a lament that the creative
vitality represented by the poems themselves is fading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. ./ When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang/ Upon those boughs which shake against the
cold (1 3). This is a straightforward complaint that, like autumn, the poet is moving gradually into
old age, with the winter of death right around the corner. But Shakespeare s description of the tree
limbs in their bare autumn dress is key to the whole poem. He calls them Bare ruined choirs,
where late the sweet birds sang. The barren tree branches are the choir, or the place where the choir
sang. But
the sweet birds are no longer there. Given that the entire sequence of poems is a sequence of
songs, Shakespeare s lament can be seen as a lament that the songs themselves, the poems, will
cease. He was one of the sweet birds, or his poems were. At his death, no longer will there be any
new songs to praise his friend.
The next quatrain lapses into a more mundane metaphor. The seeming proximity of sleep and death
has long been a subject of English poetry. One noteworthy aspect of the metaphor here, though, is
that Shakespeare doesn t use death to meditate on the melancholy aspect of sleep, but uses sleep to
speculate on the restful aspect of death. The image which opens the quatrain, the sunset, is
standard; his life is at the point of fading into darkness. But the sleep which night brings is not
presented too fearfully here, because night brings Death s second self that seals up all in

Durkheim s Influence On Poverty
Durkheim Application Durkheim brings out many characteristics that relate to poverty in society.
Durkheim expanded upon the idea that big factors affect the little parts of society, which led to
Durkheim coming up with the idea of social facts. Social facts are institutions that affect the way
people behave. This concept ties into the perception of poverty because Durkheim gives several
examples in our textbook such as, religion, crime, beliefs and etc., which all three of these factors
help to explain poverty in some way. When looking at crime and how we shifted from local
community based programs to larger government based programs, you can see poverty still is a
factor. Durkheim includes this in his thoughts that crime has always been a factor in history and is
still today. This ties into poverty programs because the people that tend to be in poverty are known
to be the ones committing crimes. The government is more focused on who shouldn t be getting the
assistance than those that truly could benefit from the assistance. Tagging along with the subject of
social facts, we see that Durkheim splits social facts up into two categories, which are nonmaterial
and material. Material facts are known as structural components of society rather than nonmaterial,
which focuses on moral and cultural components. Poverty plays a larger role in non material social
facts than material. Tying in religion that was mentioned in the above paragraph and morality,
poverty is still being

Observation Of Jupiter s Moons
Navigation has always played a key role in all aspects of human life. Although modern technology
has simplified travel and airplanes are used constantly, ships continue to be an important part of
trade and military systems today. This was especially the case around the seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries. Colonialism was built on navigationand whoever held the greatest naval power
could gain the greatest control. However, because of the difficulties that came from calculating
location while at sea, navigation became the greatest scientific challenge in the age of sailing. Being
able to pinpoint positions in the open sea was a necessity for nations at the time (and now) so that
military and commercial ships could be kept safe and on the right trajectory. Although latitude could
be measured successfully during the early eighteenth century, longitude still remained difficult to
measure. With wrecks continuing to occur, the British government, as well as other governments,
was desperate to find the solution to the longitude problem. The... Show more content on

One of these methods was suggested by the great mathematician and astronomer, Galileo Galilei.
The method stemmed from Galileo s discovery of the orbits of Jupiter s moons; he proposed that
the moons could be used as a way to track time. The problem with this method is that it required a
person on board to observe Jupiter s moons periodically, which was a difficult task due to the
constant movement that is experienced on board of a ship. Another method that was put forth was
one that relied on the position of the moon, similar to Galileo s method. Using this method,
observers on a ship would have to note the position of the moon relative to other objects in the sky.
Charting the moon s distance to other objects was not an easy task, making the method tedious and

  • 2. College Is The Most Challenging Thing Facing college is one of the most challenging thing that one has to deal with. Whether they deiced to go, the different choices for college varies. Many ask themselves if they want to go to a larger school or consider student life. One of the harder choice that one has to make about college is deciding if they wantto dorm or commute to class. I believe that dorming in college is essential to growing in oneself. Dorming provides the sense of familiarity to everyone, the convivence of getting to class, and also being independent. College is a learning experience that everyone takes in differently. One of the aspects that help one grow as a person would be the friends you make. It is much easier to make friends if you were dorming because you are here majority of your time. I have made plenty of friends within my first four weeks of school. Most of them were fellow classmates and a few through dorming in the same building. Dorming is much more convenient to get to class if one does decide to dorm. Myself as an example, I have the comfort of getting to class within a five minute walk. I like being on top of my things such as getting to class at least five minutes early and starting my homework early. This gives me the feeling that I would be more prepared for whatever happens. Living on campus could also give the student the opportunity to learn how to be independent. Knowing that mom is going to do it mentality goes away as one learns that its his or hers responsibility ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Don Delillo White Noise Analysis Death is a vapor that seeps through the fissures of life, plunging its way into a person s existence. Throughout White Noise, Don Delillo uses death to invoke a harrowing fear Jake Gladney and others alike strive to elude. From power to drugs, the terror drives characters to shroud their life with distractions and shields. Jack s influence and power as the chairman of Hitler Studies gives him a sense that a person can be larger than death. Babette s defense is drugs, attempting to eradicate the fearconsuming her. However, these attempts to liberate themselves from fear was ineffective. In a suburban town, Jack is the chairman in the department of Hitler studies and death is a perpetual thought of his (DeLillo). For example, Jack wakes up at 3:51am in a death sweat , thinking about death (DeLillo, 47). Furthermore, while looking through family albums, Jack wonders who will die first (DeLillo, 30). The fear of death wakes Jack up at night, clouding happiness in a dark mist. As the chairman of Hitler studies, Jack uses Hitler s image and reputation to create a veil over him in order to feel in control. Jack states that he feels comfortable with and on top of death after explaining a part of Hitler s life to a crowd (DeLillo, 74). Moreover, Jack agrees with his friend Murray that Hitler is larger than death (DeLillo, 274). This suggests that because Hitler brought forth great death and is still known in modern day, that Jack believes his knowledge of Hitler protects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote means that once you gain consciousness of your actions, you start to use your head instead of your heart. One way that this quote is demonstrated in this chapter is through Mr. Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was following the crowd mindlessly, and giving into mob mentality. Upon Scout talking to Mr. Cunningham, he remembered that he was an individual, and that Atticus and Tom Robinson were also individuals. • 6. A Perfect Day For Bananafish Literary Analysis Typically, the ending of a book can be quite predicable since authors tend to be very straight forward onto exactly is what is going on in the characters minds. On the other hand, author J.D. Salinger decides to end his short story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish, in a shockingly and unexpected manner. The main character, Seymour Glass, and his wife Muriel, are vacationing at a resort in Florida. In the end of the story Seymour chooses to end his life. Although, his choice to commit suicide appears to be a mystery his comments, behavior, and interactions towards others throughout the story present enough evidence that Seymour was mentally unstable. This happens immediately after he is in the elevator with a random woman and defensively remarks to her, I see you re looking at my feet (9). The woman denies Seymour s accusation and asked the car operator to let her out. Feet symbolize basic humanity; Seymour feels unaccepted by humanity since the woman denied staring. This leads Seymour to feel alienated by society. This incident makes it clear that Seymour is mentally unstable, and that his following actions are only happening because of his distressed and disturbed state of mind. Once Seymour gets out of the elevator, he enters his room and went over and sat down on the unoccupied twin bed, looked at the girl, aimed the pistol, and fired a bullet through his right temple (9). After reading the disheartening description of Seymour s suicide, the fact that he carried a pistol in his luggage shows death roamed his mind, he planned this action and feels no regret. His crime against himself shows how helpless and ill he is. • 7. Examples Of Integrity In The Great Gatsby Nowadays, the word integrity is continually utilized to clarify the character in the literature. Integrity by the definition in the Cambridge dictionary is: the quality of being honest . As the dictionary indicates, usually, a lot of people utilize integrity as a synonym for the honesty, but in my opinion, the word integrity implies much more than fair being honest. American media proprietor Oprah Winfrey said: Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody s going to know whether you did it or not. Hence, having integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way by following own moral or ethical convictions in all circumstances, indeed in the event that no one is watching. • 12. The Florida Conference Of Seventh Day Adventists Essay A Storybranding Analysis of the Florida Conference of Seventh Day Adventists The early Adventist Church emerged from a climate of religious revival in the Northeastern United States , (Lechleitner, 2013). Its founder was the late William Miller, (Slick, n.d.). The Church was founded based on the idea of the Second Coming of Jesus, (Church, 2013). The Seventh Day Adventism is a Christian faith with multiple fundamental beliefs such as the Sabbath. The Sabbath is the day in which God decided to rest after creating the Earth. For the Seventh Day Adventists, the Sabbath is Saturday, as God rested on the Seventh Day of the week. Ellen G. White, a woman considered one of the founding members of the Church and a prophetess, developed another fundamental belief of how husbands should treat their wives as equal, the way they were created to be , (Banks, 1992). As we can see, women play an important role in this doctrine. As the Seventh Day Adventist Church grew, they developed Conferences around the World. For the purpose of this study, we will look into the Florida Conference. Florida Conference of Seventh day Adventists is an unincorporated, nonprofit organisation which serves as the administrative body for its sisterhood of churches with an emphasis on evangelism, nurturing constituents, and operating a system of schools , (Adventist, n.d.). Much of the licensing information pertains not only to the sale of houses, but also to anyone who wishes to obtain any professional license, from a license to work as a security guard to a boxing license to a license for a private investigator. There are three basic real estatelicenses in Arizona, a broker s license and a salesperson s license, as with most other states, and an apprentice salesperson s license. The apprentice salesperson is generally already working for a licensed Wisconsin real estate broker and is in the process of obtaining training. Generally, a salesperson s license allows the holder to sell real estate only under the auspices of a licensed broker. (Salesperson s licenses are generally what people refer to when they say they have a real estate license.) To obtain the salesperson s license, a person must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United States. The initial questionnaire also asks whether a person, either directly or through a corporation or other entity, has ever had a professional or business license suspended or revoked, and whether they have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony. There are very few films that attempt to portray Native Americans at all, yet alone in a respectful manner. The characters are all played by genuine Native American actors including: Adam Beach, Evan Adams, Irene Bedard, Gary Farmer, and Tantoo Cardinal. Additionally, it is directed by Chris Eyre, another Native American. This film tries to overcome stereotypes of Native Americans that are prevalent in society, and does so in a humorous way. Smoke Signals takes the viewer along on a journey with the two main characters, Victor and Thomas. They leave their reservation in Idaho to travel to Arizona in order to collect Victor s father s ashes. This film is a classic because of it s timeless theme: forgiveness. Smoke Signals is one of the few films that accurately depicts Native American life by genuine Native American actors. This can be attributed to the fact that it is produced by Native Americans. Aristotle noted that there are six elements to a tragedy which are most important. These six elements being Plot, Character, Thought, Diction, Melody, and Spectacle. Both King Lear, and The Sorrows of Young Werther touch on numerous elements of a good tragedy imposed by Aristotle in Poetics. William Shakespeare s King Lear, and Johann Wolfgang von Goethes The Sorrows of Young Werther are both tragedies, with the former being written as a play, and the latter being written as a novel. Both fall under the genre of tragedy. While the genre of both King Lear and The Sorrows of Young Werther may be tragedies, there is an underlying theme that also connects the two. King Lear and The Sorrows of Young Werther are both tragedies with love as a part of the storyline, but love affects the protagonists in different ways. For Lear, it is a matter of love and deception, while for Werther, it is love and obsession. Both of the protagonists have a character flaw. Lear s flaw is that he is easily deceived. Werther s flaw is his uncontrollable emotions. For Lear, he is deceived by his daughters, Regan and Goneril, when the two flatter Lear with exaggerated statements about how much they love Lear. The flattering statements from Goneril and Regan are exactly what Lear wants to hear. At the beginning stage of the play, Lear is a character who values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But they never went into much detail on what he was doing or where he came from. Moving on, just from a few lines into the poem the speaker s tone was coming off as melancholy. I got the melancholy tone because the speaker seemed very sad and gloomy with phrases as, O what can ail thee (1) almost sound like a cry for help or just a cry out of last hope. He then goes on to say I met a lady in the meads, ( 13 ), as stated previously but, this is when the poem turns from melancholy and alone to happy and almost hopeful. This new product was selected largely due to customer interest for this type of product. The goal is to produce 25 mugs per week. The estimated cycle time of each product is twenty one days from beginning of production to distribution to customer. Focusing on the production of five mugs per shift and running one shift per day during a five day work week might result in a bottleneck during the firing phase of production. • 28. Traditional Management Styles And Disciplinary Techniques... If you do that again, you will be in big trouble! This is an exclamation that is heard all around the world, in many different languages. It is heard in houses, schools, play groups, and many other places. It is said by parents and teachers alike. The problem with that phrase is the consequence. Alfie Kohnand Forrest Gathercoal are two experts in classroom management. They both believe that traditional management stylesand disciplinary techniques need some adjustments. One can gather from reading both Kohn s and Gathercoal s works that there is quite a large amount of sense behind that and schools really should reexamine these practices. Kohn believes that many of the disciplinary methods used in today s schools do not create an ethical child. Kohn (2006) tells us, By contrast, ethical sophistication consists of some blend of principles and caring, of knowing how one ought to act and being concerned about others. Punishment does absolutely nothing to promote either of these things (p. 29). When children are disciplined, they will only remember that doing whatever the wrong thing was, has the effect of discipline. This will impair them later because they may not know why the action was wrong. It will not teach them right from wrong. Kohn (2006) also talks about coercion. The description used is, The most basic way to get what you want from someone, assuming you have more power than he does, is just to make him do it (Kohn, 2006, p. 22). It is argued ... • 32. Advantages Of Collective Bargaining Discussion of collective bargaining must begin with recognizing the fundamental differences between public and private employment. The terms and conditions of employment in the private sector are determined by private decisions made by private parties shaped by market forces. In the public sector, the terms and conditions of employment are public decisions made through governmental officials and shaped by political processes as well as by market forces. In a democratic society, this means that decisions are confined by constitutional limitations and must ultimately reflect the will of the electorate (Summers, 2003). Organizing efforts are a constant and much more difficult in the private sector due to the rise and fall of businesses. Once a union organizes in the public sector, they will usually remain intact as there is no worry about the government going out of business. Therefore, maintaining membership levels in the public sector is not a problem. Public employees have other major advantages over their private sector counterparts in that they are constitutionally protected, which prohibits termination or other adverse action without good cause. In other words, they are not at will. Many of the terms and conditions of employment such as benefits and pensions are not subject to individual or collective bargaining, but are prescribed by statute. • 46. Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What causes humans to act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human brain is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process directly and indirectly. The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages carried by the hormones trigger different behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways such as: Mental activity or tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone. Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male testes. These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but high levels are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen, most commonly found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well. Although these hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that these hormones alone do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005). Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently (Morris Maisto, 2005). Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic traits inherited from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual combined with a certain environment, can affect behavior. Genetics is the science of analyzing traits inherited through generations. These traits are determined by genes that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Death of Creative Power in Sonnet 73 Essay The Death of Creative Power in Sonnet 73 Most of the 127 sonnets Shakespeare wrote to one of his close male friends are united by the theme of the overwhelming, destructive power of time, and the counterbalancing power of love and poetry to create and preserve beauty. Sonnet 73 is no different, but it does present an intriguing twist on this theme. Most of these sonnets address the youth and beauty of his male friend, as well as poetry s power to immortalize them, but number 73 addresses the author s own mortality and the friend s love for him. Also, subtly woven into this turning inward is a lament that the creative vitality represented by the poems themselves is fading ... This is a straightforward complaint that, like autumn, the poet is moving gradually into old age, with the winter of death right around the corner. But Shakespeare s description of the tree limbs in their bare autumn dress is key to the whole poem. He calls them Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang. The barren tree branches are the choir, or the place where the choir sang. But the sweet birds are no longer there. Given that the entire sequence of poems is a sequence of songs, Shakespeare s lament can be seen as a lament that the songs themselves, the poems, will cease. He was one of the sweet birds, or his poems were. At his death, no longer will there be any new songs to praise his friend. The next quatrain lapses into a more mundane metaphor. The seeming proximity of sleep and death has long been a subject of English poetry. One noteworthy aspect of the metaphor here, though, is that Shakespeare doesn t use death to meditate on the melancholy aspect of sleep, but uses sleep to speculate on the restful aspect of death. The image which opens the quatrain, the sunset, is standard; his life is at the point of fading into darkness. But the sleep which night brings is not presented too fearfully here, because night brings Death s second self that seals up all in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Durkheim s Influence On Poverty Durkheim Application Durkheim brings out many characteristics that relate to poverty in society. Durkheim expanded upon the idea that big factors affect the little parts of society, which led to Durkheim coming up with the idea of social facts. Social facts are institutions that affect the way people behave. This concept ties into the perception of poverty because Durkheim gives several examples in our textbook such as, religion, crime, beliefs and etc., which all three of these factors help to explain poverty in some way. When looking at crime and how we shifted from local community based programs to larger government based programs, you can see poverty still is a factor. Durkheim includes this in his thoughts that crime has always been a factor in history and is still today. This ties into poverty programs because the people that tend to be in poverty are known to be the ones committing crimes. The government is more focused on who shouldn t be getting the assistance than those that truly could benefit from the assistance. Tagging along with the subject of social facts, we see that Durkheim splits social facts up into two categories, which are nonmaterial and material. Material facts are known as structural components of society rather than nonmaterial, which focuses on moral and cultural components. Poverty plays a larger role in non material social facts than material. Tying in religion that was mentioned in the above paragraph and morality, poverty is still being ... • 49. Observation Of Jupiter s Moons Navigation has always played a key role in all aspects of human life. Although modern technology has simplified travel and airplanes are used constantly, ships continue to be an important part of trade and military systems today. This was especially the case around the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Colonialism was built on navigationand whoever held the greatest naval power could gain the greatest control. However, because of the difficulties that came from calculating location while at sea, navigation became the greatest scientific challenge in the age of sailing. Being able to pinpoint positions in the open sea was a necessity for nations at the time (and now) so that military and commercial ships could be kept safe and on the right trajectory. Although latitude could be measured successfully during the early eighteenth century, longitude still remained difficult to measure. With wrecks continuing to occur, the British government, as well as other governments, was desperate to find the solution to the longitude problem. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these methods was suggested by the great mathematician and astronomer, Galileo Galilei. The method stemmed from Galileo s discovery of the orbits of Jupiter s moons; he proposed that the moons could be used as a way to track time. The problem with this method is that it required a person on board to observe Jupiter s moons periodically, which was a difficult task due to the constant movement that is experienced on board of a ship. Another method that was put forth was one that relied on the position of the moon, similar to Galileo s method. Using this method, observers on a ship would have to note the position of the moon relative to other objects in the sky. Charting the moon s distance to other objects was not an easy task, making the method tedious and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
