Introduction
It is widely accepted that Sigmund Freud coined the term Psychoanalysis.
Within this he derived a number of models over the period of his life to explain how the psyche
operates and from where trauma originates, which subsequently led to the development of
psychoanalysis.
Ronald Fairbairn was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh teaching medicine where he
incorporated his extensive knowledge of Freud s structural model in his lectures. It was during this
time that uncertainties provoked Fairbairn to questions the accuracy of the structural model and
initiated Fairbairn s quest to find an alternative theory, which later led to him becoming one of the key
contributors to Object relations theory along side, Melanie Klein, and D.W Winnicott. (Object

Asterios Polyp color is used to express both emotion and time through his use of the printer primary
colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. Because of Mazzuccehlli s use of color and the abstract form of his
comic panels, his comic is considered an alternative comic. Breaking the barriers of what readers are
familiar with when it comes to the aesthetics of a comic, while at the same time being able to make it
not seem vastly unfamiliar. Asterios Polyp takes the reader to a whole other world as they are
navigated through the mind and memories of Asterios by narration from his dead twin brother. Similar

In this study, there is an overall focus on both freshmen and senior participation in university level
courses. Does the seniority of students in universities effect their overall rate of success in one
hundred level courses? Therefore, are seniors less engaged than freshmen in these classes, and what is
effecting their success? Throughout this process, participants were observed and later seen in
interviews and focus groups to scope out and answer the hypothesis created for this study. Seniors
who are taking one hundred level courses will study less and be less engaged than freshmen, causing
them to do poorly in the class. This study was conducted to better understand the different constraints
that these two classes experience during their time at a university. Are seniors actually less engaged
than freshmen or is it simply an error in judgement?
During this process it is important to note that the students involved in participant observation were
not aware they were being studied. This was meant to keep a nonreactive research environment rather
than a reactive research environment. Not wanting the students to change their overall demeanor, it
