The Ruins Of Gorlan Analysis
Most Significant Plot
In the book, The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan, there are a few plots. However, there is a plot
which seems like the main one, but, in reality, there is another plot which is much bigger and more
important. There is a change in plots as the first leads to the main plot.
In chapter 19, the main characters Will and Halt see wild boar footprints. When Will suggests that they
kill the boar, Halt disagrees because it is just too dangerous for the two of them to kill the boar. He s a
big one, Will. You can see the size of the trial he s left. We could take half a dozen arrows to kill him,
and even then he d take time to die. With a brute like this, it s better to make sure and bring along

Charles Darwin Was Not the First to Develop a Theory of...
From his theories that he claimed were developed during his voyage, Darwin eventually wrote his
Origin of Species and Descent of Man, which exploded into the world market over twenty years after
his return home.
Wallace, King and Sanders wrote in Biosphere, The Realm of Life: In 1859, Charles Darwin published
a theory of evolution that implied that humans evolved from apes. . .The Darwinian revolution was the
greatest paradigm shift in the history of biology, and it greatly changed the way that ordinary men and
women viewed their own place in the world. (1)
World Book tells us: (2) . . .The study of the specimens from the voyage of the Beagle convinced
Darwin that modern species had evolved from a few earlier ones. He ... Show more content on

For this reason, the origins of the Earth, the heavens, the seas, plants and animals, and men and
women were wrapped in unquestioned dogmas, some of which hold true today. It is only
comparatively recently, in societies and civilizations possessed of scientific knowledge and methods
of investigation, that such dogmas have come under question.
Contrary to this opinion though, we find in fact that evolutionary thought is itself a rather old idea.
The editors of Biology Today would agree:
Much has been written on whether or not the Darwinian theory was original. Inevitably, historians
have concluded that there was little novelty in what Darwin and Wallace were saying. Down through
the centuries, from ancient Greek times on, various writers have suggested that new species can arise
through the modification of old and that among all the possible organic types, the world contains only
those that can survive the struggle for life. (8)
This is indeed interesting, that the concept that Darwin is given so much credit for was not even a very
modern idea in his own day.
We find that Anaximander of Miletus (611 B.C. 546 B.C.) advanced the traditional evolutionary idea,
already quite common in his day, that life first evolved from a type of pre biotic soup, helped along a
bit by the rays of the sun. He believed that the first animals developed from sea slime which had been
evaporated by the suns rays. He also

Medication Errors And Its Effects On Health Care
Medication errors have always been a problem; even today they still loom about health care facilities
such as hospitals and assisted living homes. A medication error is as an error in the process of
providing care for a patient that has potential to harm the patient. There also many different ways
those medication errors can occur, prescription, preparation, distribution, transcription, administration
and monitoring. It has been estimated by the Institute of Medicine that medication errors cause 1 of
131 outpatient and 1 of 854 inpatient deaths, (Wittich et al, 2013). Of those different ways medication
errors can happen, all of them have multiple factors that go into them that can cause an error to occur.

The five rights are something that every person administrating drugs should know about and should
use each time drug administration is being given to a patient. Later on there will be a discussion about
the five rights and what should be done in preventing medication errors.
The definition of a medication error is, an error in the process of administrating medication, which has
the potential to lead to and possibly, harm to the patient. In an article written by Teunissen et al, 38%
of all serious medication errors are related to medication administration and that the other medication
processes (i.e., ordering, transcription, and dispensing) accounted for 39%, 12%, and 11% of all
serious medication errors, respectively, (Teunissen et al, 2013). They found that time sensitive
medication errors are the most common. This study used different types of medications, including
those medications that react with food. There was a variety because some medications aren t as time
sensitive as others may be. They concluded that time sensitive errors are clinically relevant in very
few cases. Although the relevance of time errors may be small compared to other errors, clinical
consequences may still occur as a result and a reduction of this type of errors would still be favorable,
(Teunissen et al, 2013).
Other classifications of medication errors include prescribing and monitoring. Prescribing and
monitoring errors occur because

The Heart and Blood Circulation Essay
The Heart and Blood Circulation The heart is a four chambered muscular pump around the size of a
fist. It beats about 100,000 times a day pumping around 2,000 gallons of blood through about 100,000
miles of organic tubing.
The heart is a big muscle with four valves connected together to make a two stage pump. The heart
gets its energy by oxidizing blood sugars. This released energy, contracts the heart s many muscle
cells, and the four chambers squeeze blood out into the arteries.
The arteries are thick walled muscular tubes which carry blood away from the heart. The heart has two
sides the left ventricle and the right ventricle. The artery from the right ventricle pumps blood to ...

The venae cavae collects oxygen depleted blood from the body and routes the blood to the right atrium
in the heart. When the right atrium squeezes, it pushes blood through the tricuspid valve into the right
ventricle. Like the other three heart valves this is a one way valve (blood can only flow in one
direction). When the right ventricle contracts, it pushes blood through the pulmonary valve and on into
the lungs. Because it does not take much pressure to get blood to the lungs and back, the right side is
smaller than the left. The left side has to work harder pumping blood to the rest of the body. Blood in
our arteries is at a high pressure, blood in our veins is at low pressure. The blood, rich in oxygen,
returns from the lungs through the pulmonary veins into the left atrium. To get all the way round blood
has to go through the heart twice and this is why it is called a double circulation.
Blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets floating in a liquid called plasma. The
red blood cells contain haemoglobin and carry oxygen. Haemoglobin is a protein which becomes
oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs. The white blood cells fight disease by making antibodies and fighting
germs.
Blood transports these vital materials around the body. Blood plasma contains nutrients, hormones and
waste products. Oxygen is carried

How Did Florence Contribute To The Renaissance
Italian city states were small independent cities between the 9th and 15th century that gradually grew
overtime. Important cities such as Florence, Genoa and Venice contributed to the Renaissance.
However, Florence was one of the most significant of them all. During this period, money from
wealthy groups such as the Medici family, was used to support famous artists who made this city
important as it is. It was to be said that Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance, in other words
the start of a whole new dimension full of new ideas.
Leadership played an important role to help Florence gain importance. During the 15th to 18th
century, the Medici family was a major influence to Florence even though they were an uncrowned
monarch. The

The Giver Word Analysis
In the Giver the community has many weirdly spoken words. These words can mean many things, but
to the community these words are nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone there is used to hearing these
words and is not startled by them. In the real world an average person would have no idea what some
of these words mean. For example Stirrings, comfort object, and Nurturer. In these strange peoples
community these are everyday words, but to ordinary people, they are very odd. Stirrings is very
serious in the community, so is being a Nurturer. Every living child in the community is given a
comfort item until the age of eight. Although, having a comfort item is not that unusual like the other
two words, most children have items they go to sleep with every night. These three words from the
book are routine words to the community. One of the routine words for the community is Stirrings.
Stirrings for the community occurs to everyone at some point in their days. Stirrings occur around
twelve years old, normally after the Ceremony of Twelve. Each child has a mysterious dream that they

The Endocrine System Essay
The endocrine system is a group of glands distributed throughout the human body. This group of
glands secretes substances called hormones. These hormones are dumping into the bloodstream (Shier,
Butler Lewis, 2009). The endocrine system does not have a single anatomic location. It is dispersed
throughout the human body. The final purpose of this process is to control, regulate, and coordinate
the functioning of the human body. Some body functions can be activated or inhibited by hormones,
which are secreted in very small quantities. The hormone related diseases may be due to hyper
secretion, or a hypo secretion. The hormones secreted by the endocrine glands regulate growth,

Hyperthyroidism (too much hormone) may result Grave s disease. Symptoms include anxiety, rapid
heart rate, diarrhea and weight loss, nervousness, anxiety, and irritability.
The parathyroid glands are located in front of the base of the neck around the thyroid gland and
secrete parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid hormone regulates blood levels of calcium and phosphorus.
This hormone (parathyroid hormone) affects the bones, kidney, and intestine (Shier et al., 2009).
Adrenal glands are endocrine glands that sit atop the kidneys (Shier et al., 2009). The adrenal glands
secrete hormones that increase heart rate, the force of cardiac muscle contraction, breathing rate,
elevate blood pressure and blood glucose level. This activity prepares the body foe energy expending
action, sometimes called fight or flight responses (Shier et al., 2009).
According to Shier, Butler Lewis (2009) other glands that produce hormones and thus are parts of the
endocrine system include the pineal gland and the thymus gland . Shier et al., 2009 argued the pineal
gland, located deep between the cerebral hemispheres, secretes hormone melatonin that acts on certain
brain regions that function as a biological clock. The changing levels of melatonin across 24 hours
enable the body to know when day is and when is night.

Pursuit Of Power In Macbeth
Seeking power is exhilarating but it can be someone s undoing. The hunt for power can oftentimes
lead to different external and internal consequences, which can also depend on the person or
environment. Shakespeare s Macbeth focuses on a character who eventually becomes obsessed with
the pursuit of power, and trying to control the power that he already has. His power affects him and
everyone around him. This act of trying to collect as much power as possible will ruin him, ultimately
being his downfall. The real life example of Vladimir Putin showcases that he and people around him
have also suffered the the consequences evident in Macbeth. Many times, the pursuit of power will
lead to psychological impacts such as feeling fear and guilt which can show on the outside as delusion
and insanity.
Macbeth has hallucinations based around guilt and to others he seems delusional and insane. After he
hires the three murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, they come back unsuccessful, only managing to
kill Banquo. He is haunted by a hallucination of an apparition of (supposedly) Banquo and says (to

Charles Dickens Hard Times For These Times
Fancy is a noun. It means the power of the mind to imagine things. Do not think about it; do not think
about thinking about it. Just memorize it. Can you? There is only one right path that society has
pinned you on. Like a toy car on a wooden train track, you are expected to complete the course
without straying from it. If you do, you are considered broken. Yet, what exactly is the point of
mindlessly walking the same path as everyone else, only to constantly find yourself memorizing
empty facts over and over again? In Hard Times for these Times, Charles Dickens embodies the
consequences of an absolutely factual world: blindness, imbalance, and nonfulfillment. Through the
convoluted stories of the opposite worlds, Sissy s journey to becoming a jewel of balance, Louisa s
tragic fight for fulfillment, and the harmonious character Sleary, Dickens defines the urgency for the
proportional combination of fact and fancy.
Gradgrind s education system is structured to plucking imagination and emotions out of the lives of
children, resulting in dangerous, machine like human beings. He closed mindedly abides to rules and
facts; dreams and abstractness is a crime. For example, Bounderby, Gradgrind s subordinate, insists
that his workers expect to be fed on turtle soup and vension, with a golden spoon (72), while on the
other hand, the workers believe that they are unfairly treated like dumb objects. Both Bounderby and
the workers think their opinion is the fact, but it shrivels

Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. The first person I think of is Nelson Mandela.
Mandela s ultimate success had to do with his character and background. Although he was born in a
royal family, grew up in a divided region of South Africa between blacks and whites. He still managed
to maintain a correct mindset to a path leading to success. You can come from a small surrounding and
have a bigger triumph than someone who comes from a lot more, or it s the total opposite. In this case,
it s the fact that coming from a wealthy family who supports you will get you anywhere. Gladwell

Which brings me to my next point. One s background definitely has an impact on successful people. If
it were a different person with a different background, hence the situation would have turned out
differently. Many people are born already into an easier lifestyle because of the place their family has
already had. Robert Oppenheimer was a smart guy who turned out to be successful with the support of
his family and wealth. Oppenheimer didn t face the lifetime struggles, Lagan has. But he did suffer
from depression and was emotionally unstable, which made sense as to why, Oppenheimer took some
chemicals from the laboratory and tried to poison his tutor (Gladwell 98). The first instance is that any
person is going to go to jail for any crime he or she did, no matter who they are or what reputation
they hold. But for this case, Oppenheimer was taken out the hot seat and was not punished. I believe
he was let out of the situation way too easily and it was odd for them to do. Gladwell here covers
every detail of Oppenheimer s case, making it to the university and how they handled it, Blackett,
luckily, found out that something was amiss. The university was informed. Oppenheimer was called
on the carpet. And what happened next is every bit as unbelievable as the crime itself. Here is how the
incident is described in American Prometheus, Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin s biography of
Oppenheimer: After protracted negotiations, it was

Daniel Goleman Leadership Summary
Goleman, D. (2000). Leadership that gets results. Harvard Business Review. March April. Pp. 78 90.
Siegel, D. Hartzell, M. (2003). Parenting from the inside out. Chapter 4: How we communicate:
Making connections. New York: Penguin Books pp. 80 100.
In the reading by Daniel Goleman, the six different type of leadership are described, and defined. The
writer states the different types are Coercive, Authoritative, Affiliative, Democratic, Pacesetting, and
Coaching (Goleman, 2000). Coercive leaders demand immediate compliance. Authoritative leaders
mobilize people toward a vision. Affiliative leaders create emotional bonds, and harmony. Democratic
leaders build consensus through participation. Pacesetting leaders expect excellence and self direction,
and coaching leaders develop people for the future, (Goleman, 2000). The reading state out of the six,
Authoritative leadership is the type which has the most positive effect on workers because in the realm
of Emotional Intelligence it shows empathy, and self confidence (Goleman, 2000). The other positive
leadership styles are Affiliative, Democratic, and Coaching (Goleman, 2000). In all of these types, the
common theme is empathy, and working together.
In the reading by Daniel J. Seigel, and Mary Hartzell, it discusses how important it is for an infant to
form an attachment bond with the parents, and how the parents need to be attuned to their infants
needs to form a trusting relationship. The reading also details the

SMSs are of key importance because they work in four ways to handle aviation safety and its

roles and hiring educated, experienced personnel to fill them.
Second, SMSs formalise the management of safety risks by guide with procedures and processes for

performed by reporting of safety risks and taking active or passive measures to reduce each risk to a
reasonable level and potentially removing risks totally.
The third role of SMSs is to provide guarantee that safety is being maintained. Each aviation group s
SMS does this by making benchmarks of safety measurement and monitoring the firm s safety
performance to conform its safety performance continues to meet these benchmarks.
If its safety performance does not continue to meet the organisation has produced benchmarks, then
previously established formal procedures are put into effect to bring the organisation s safety

A connection between an author and his or her characters lies in the stories given to the reader, as well

the narrator and her characters are their common lifestyle. After the reader views deeper into Walker s
childhood they would notice that Walker grew up in an environment much like that described in the

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning The Social
Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with one s

learn to work outside, how to earn money, how to rule the world etc. The effect of family, school,

As a result of incomplete combustion of fuels, additional by products such as carbon monoxide (CO),
unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM) are also formed. Many of these emissions
have health and climate impacts on both a local and global level. (Jamin et al, 2004)
Globally the environmental impact of aircraft largely results from two major sources, the emissions of
greenhouse gases (mainly CO2, HC, NO2) and the creation of high altitude water vapor resulting in
the formation of contrails. Contrails are created in the wake of an aircraft as the warm, moist engine
exhaust gas expands and mixes with colder and drier outside air. Water droplets can be formed and
these droplets rapidly freeze to form ice crystals. With enough water vapor, the amount of
condensation to ice is faster than that of evaporation, and the ice crystals will grow to form visible
contrails (see Schumann (1996) for a review). Contrails affect the climate by reducing solar heating
during the day and radiation of heat during the night by increasing the extent to which it diffusely
reflects light, therefore reducing the range between day and night temperatures.
Due to the huge projected future growth rates aviation is expected to produce, the implementation of

Education In Education And Education
Throughout my life I ve encountered many educators whether through elementary, middle school,
high school, or college level. My involvement with these educators throughout the years would
become very instrumental in not only my learning, but also becoming an educator. Educators can
range from parents, who become our primary educators of life as a child throughout adolescents, and
eventually adulthood. A parent will educate us as youth on what we perceive as home training, family
values and morals. Preachers can be educators as they educate you on the bible and the way of life.
Teachers who serve as a master educator, serves a vital part of a child s learning and learning needs.
Teaching in most cases is showing or demonstrating what you ve experienced and applying that task
to someone else. I reflect back to my early years as a child and my little league baseball coach
teaching how to become a baseball player. Although I know how to throw and catch a ball, I didn t
know the fundamentals of the game. One example I can think of is the coach teaching me how to slide
when stealing a base. The example he would use is pretend you re running on a slip in slide when
stealing a base. I also think back to my kindergarten teacher teaching my how to tie my shoes or how

Evaluate the culture A former employee has been quoted saying [Cedar Tech is] super conservative,
upper management is too cautious, does not encourage risk taking or the empowerment of the people.
Getting employees to work effectively, efficiently, and with respect for their peers is a skill that has to
be honed through quality leadership, willing participants and a democratic culture. The motto for
Cedar Tech needs to be One Team Striving for Excellence . This will eliminate negative organizational

Comparing Fairbairn s Motivation Behind His Departure...
nd contrast Fairbairn s motivation behind his departure from Freud s structural model and
development of object relation s theory
Introduction
It is widely accepted that Sigmund Freud coined the term Psychoanalysis.
Within this he derived a number of models over the period of his life to explain how the psyche
operates and from where trauma originates, which subsequently led to the development of
psychoanalysis.
Ronald Fairbairn was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh teaching medicine where he
incorporated his extensive knowledge of Freud s structural model in his lectures. It was during this
time that uncertainties provoked Fairbairn to questions the accuracy of the structural model and
initiated Fairbairn s quest to find an alternative theory, which later led to him becoming one of the key
contributors to Object relations theory along side, Melanie Klein, and D.W Winnicott. (Object
relations theory and practice An introduction, David E. Scharff, pg 5 1996)
This essay will compare and contrast some of the key reasons for Fairbairn s departure from Freud s
Structural model and drive theory and look at the theory behind object relations and how it is used in
therapy today.
The Pleasure principle
Freud s structural model illustrates that within every individual there is tripartite structure consisting
of the Id, Ego and Super Ego.
Freud argued that an individual s instinctual drive was sexually orientated. In the same way that
hunger seeks nutrition,

Analysis Of The Novel Asterios Polyp Color
Color is commonly used in various art forms as a way to represent feeling and symbolize a greater
meaning than a written text or black and white shading could. In David Mazzucchelli s graphic novel
Asterios Polyp color is used to express both emotion and time through his use of the printer primary
colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. Because of Mazzuccehlli s use of color and the abstract form of his
comic panels, his comic is considered an alternative comic. Breaking the barriers of what readers are
familiar with when it comes to the aesthetics of a comic, while at the same time being able to make it
not seem vastly unfamiliar. Asterios Polyp takes the reader to a whole other world as they are
navigated through the mind and memories of Asterios by narration from his dead twin brother. Similar
to Mazzuccehlli, Paul Thomas Anderson incorporates meaning through color in his film Punch Drunk
Love (2002). In this essay I will compare the use of color in both Asterios Polyp and Punch Drunk
Love with regards to its significance in both, and how form is used to express both emotion and time.
With regards to form, I will focus on the Mazzuccehlli s eccentric panel distribution and the variation
of space in between the panels, which separates it from most comics. Anderson s film alike separates
itself from the classic romantic movie form through both its plotline and cinematography. Had either
Mazzuccehlli or Anderson not incorporated the symbolism of color within their works, I feel

Capitalism Vs Industrial Capitalism
What is capitalism? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary capitalism is an economic system
characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined
by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined
mainly by competition in a free market.
Transitioned from mercantile capitalism later expanded to joint stock companies moving into
industrial capitalism. Industrial capitalism was larger in scale and different in practice. Joyce Appleby
s definition of industrial capitalism: An economic system that relies on investment of capital in
machines and technology that are used to increase production of marketable goods.
In The Wealth of Nations, published in 1776. Smith advocated that the production of wealth would
increase if people were allowed to pursue their self interest, with little intrusion from government. In
serving their own interests, people would serve the public interest, unconsciously, as if guided, as he
said, by an unseen hand. Capitalism is built on self interest, it s a system of give me more and can
never inspire admiration. Today there seems to not be a better alternative to capitalism, but anti market
feelings persist. The current market system is more proficient at constructing wealth and fulfilling
desires than any other system currently known. Capitalism encompasses the legal, political, economic
and cultural systems all working together to create wealth

How The Civil War Became A War To Free The Slaves
When President Lincoln first called for troops to put down the confederate rebellion, he made no
connection between this action and an attempt to end slavery. In fact, he explicitly stated the utmost
care will be observed to avoid any devastation, any destruction of, or interference with, property... At
this point, slavery was not yet integral to the struggle, it was much more important for the Union to air
on the side of political prudence and avoid angering loyal boarder states. However, despite this lack of
political dialogue, many abolitionists, slaves, and free blacks felt the war to preserve the union could
also be a war to end slavery. In the end, they were right, as military need overwhelmed potential
political dangers, slaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these misgivings, the Union policy of returning slaves who had not been employed by the
Confederacy continued as the army moved through the boarder states. When they began to move
deeper south, however, this policy became much more difficult to enforce. General Ambrose E.
Burnside found this to be true after invading coastal North Carolina and finding virtually no loyal
slaveholders but many slaves who seemed to be wild with excitement and delight. This, combined
with ever increasing recognition of fugitive slave labors importance to the Union war effort, led
Congress to declare in March 1892 that Union soldiers were forbidden to return fugitive slaves to their
owners. Even with this change in policy, the federal government continued to overrule emancipation
efforts as they attempted to retain the loyalty of slaveholding boarder states. When General David
Hunter proclaimed freedom for all slaves in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, he was quickly
overruled by President Lincoln. However, while Lincoln clearly stuck down General Hunter s
proclamation, he also offered aid to the boarder states so they may adopt a gradual abolishment of
slavery. Despite this set back, Hunter continued to work for the emancipation of slaves, and went so
far as to enlist ex slaves as soldiers without any authorization to do so. Although his actions may have

New England, Middle, And Southern Colonies
There were many different early American colonies. The settlers in these colonies came from many
different places such as; England, France, Spain, and The Netherlands. Also, the settlers in these
colonies settled for many different reasons. The New England, Middle, and Southern colonies
developed a different way of life because of differences in aspects of life such as; government,
religion, and geography.
To begin, the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies developed a different way of life because
of differences in aspects of life such as government. A quote from the document Should Government
be based on religion? (document b) is, Why government should be based on religion (...) authority
from God. This quote is from founder of one of the New England colonies and he is saying that the
New England colonies have religion based on god because god is giving them authority to do
everything. Another quote to support this claim from the textbook History Alive on page 55 is, Middle
colony(...) government: self governing. This quote is showing that in the middle colonies they had a
self governing government or the government was based off the people and less off of a god leading
them. These two quotes tie back to the claim because it shows how the government was different from
the Middle colonies (based off the people) to the New England colonies (based off religion). Also, the
way a place is ran will cause the people to act and do things differently, overall

Biographical Interpretation Essay
Many people view poems and other pieces of writing in different ways, there is no wrong or right way
to interpret a work of someone, it merely your point of view; your opinions. In Sylvia Plath s poem
Daddy , many could say that it was a about a hard relationship she had with her father, but how do we
know? It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read
Daddy I got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either
an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. In the poem, Plath says
I have always been scared of you (41); I view this as she may not have had the best relationship with
him. Maybe he was abusive or mean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daddy is a poem where Plath expressed her most personal feelings about her father and ultimately her
husband also. In the poem, when Plath writes And then I knew what to do. / I made a model of you, /
A man in black with a Meinkampf look. (63 65). It suggests that she possibly actually went to her
father s grave and maybe she tried to dig up her father s bones to prove to her that he was really dead.
Or, possibly these lines mean that she married someone who was a lot like him. She married someone
who she could look at every day and who reminds her of her father. But, if this poem is about her sad
relationship with him, why would she want to be reminded of him every day? This only makes me
come to the conclusion that she did not have a horrible relationship with him, she was just angry with
him for leaving her, for dying. As you can tell there can be many different interpretations for Sylvia
Plath s poem Daddy . I believe that this poem is about Sylvia, who is angry with her father for dying
and leaving her behind, who wants to express her feelings towards this in a poem. She writes deep,
dark, meaningful, thoughts on her emotions and her actions to get back to him. I think that this poem
is very unique in the way that she describes her life in the poem; she goes from when he died to when
she was thirty, and along the way uses many analogies to describe her feelings. She also uses many
symbolic phrases that could

Why GPR Is Important
Bones can tell us a lot, these pieces of hard, whitish tissue makes up the skeleton in humans and other
vertebrates. Without these strong pieces of tissue, we would be able to have the body structure or
move in many different ways, or let alone have the protection we need for our internal organs. Bones
are important when it comes to the structure of human beings and vertebrates. What happens to these
bones when it is time for humans to die? They become buried deep within the earth. The earth was
literally filled with bones, evidently hastily place there or left where the dead fell. (Archeological
Expedition to Arizona in 1895 by Jesse Walter Fewkes). If there could be bones under the ground, we
walk on how are we able to extract such items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When using GPR it is unable to identify any underground utilities that the user many come across.
Such as determining if the piping that is found is gas, or water, this can become dangerous because
you would have to limit the area of where you dig and to make sure you are not damaging a line that
has been detected. Even though these measurements can be increased your typical GPR can penetrate
the depth of concrete surfaces form 18 24. Other surfaces such as grass can range from a penetration
of 6 10. This can pose a challenge because, the evidence or what is being extracted can be buried
deeper than the limit of the GPR which can cause an Undiscovery of evidence or also a danger to
extractors who are unaware of what they can be digging into below. Another disadvantage that GPR
has is, this is an expensive tool you would not be able to go out and find this at your local Wal Mart let
alone at a cheap price for a good one, you are going to spend some money to have a good and accurate
GPR tester. GPR also requires experience before operating, it was stated it should take up to 3 days
depending on the pace that you learn, to be able to operate a GPR system. Unless you are familiar with
the tool, you are going to need proper training on how to operate this system. This can serve a problem
to an anthropology group and or law enforcement because if this tool is needed to extract evidence
someone who as the proper training and knowledge of this tool has to be present in order for the
discovery to be properly extracted. Another disadvantage that I was able to discovery is that most GPR
tools require the ground to be a leveled out surface. Without the surface being properly leveled out this
can cause a un detection of evidence or whatever is trying to be detected below, this can also give off a
misread in that particular

Nas The Space Shuttle Essay
On the icy morning of January 28, 1986, seven brave people boarded the Challenger space shuttle. All
of America sat around their televisions watching and waiting for the space shuttle to finally lift off.
One of the seven people aboard this shuttle was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher in the Teachers in Space
program and would have been the first civilian to go into space. Her students were invited to come to
NASA and watch. The engines roar sounded loudly and the shuttle finally left the ground. It was an
illuminating sight to see, until a flame started at the base of the shuttle. The space shuttle caught on
fire what seemed like instantly, and exploded within seconds. Due to this tragedy, the NASA space
program has made several improvements to prevent tragedies like this one from ever happening again
(Carreau). NASA may have made improvements, but the horrifying memory of this disaster will be
embedded in the minds of the people of America and Christa s class for the rest of their lives. The day
that the shuttle took off was not the original lift off date. The date that was originally planned was
January 25, 1986, but was cancelled due to weather conditions. This was the first cancellation of
many. On January 26, the weather condition was perfect, but due to the cancellation the day before,
the shuttle was not quite ready for takeoff yet. Just to make sure everything was ready, the flight was
rescheduled for the last time on January 28. Christa McAuliffe,

The Similarities Between The Poetry Of Walt Whitman And...
Abstract: Walt Whitman and Puran Singh are the two great poets belonging to two different cultures.

Walt Whitman and Puran Singh are the two great poets belonging to two different cultures. Whitman
inherited western cultural problematic and Puran Singh Eastern Indian and in particular the Punjabi
cultural problematic. These two cultures differ from each other in many ways yet one finds a cord of
identity both thematic and structural between the poetry of Whitman and Puran Singh. Therefore a
comparative study between the works of the two poets is feasible. It is desirable all the more because
Puran Singh himself has boldly acknowledged the influence of Whitman s Leaves of Grass on him: To
him Walt Whitman appears as a poetic prophet whose spirit has passed on into his own and who leads

statement is relevant here. He says: To some it (mysticism) is simply a type of confused, irrational

even with occultism and magic..... To some it is bound up with visions and revelations. Others use it as
a synonym for other worldliness...... Some would limit its use to that rare state of consciousness which

National Security Requires a Clear Acknowledgement of the...
Introduction
To succeed, we must face the world as it is (Obama, 2010, p.1). Globalization has resulted in
interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer
can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are
our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future
generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers
and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole
possessor and arbiter of influence.
The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age
of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world
order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. As well, we
must be aware of the more nefarious motives of nations for whom state intervention is merely a thin
veil for imperialistic ambitions. With this, we consider the recent events in Ukraine and its impact on
our national security.
Brief History of Ukraine
An independent country embroiled in civil war, Ukraine fell prey to attack from Soviet forces in 1921.
The acquisition of the eastern two thirds of the state by Russia was considered crucial...to the
formation of the Soviet Union (Conant, 2014). Over the next two decades,

The Theme Of Memories In Toni Morrison s Beloved
In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, memories are seen as powerful instruments which haunt the
characters throughout the narrative. During the institution of slavery, slaves were dehumanised and
treated subordinately. This novel asserts the fact that slaves were actually human beings, by exploring
the ways that they had to endure the disturbing and traumatic memories of it, and still find ways to
live. In the article Four Hundred Years of Silence: Myth, History and Motherhood in Toni Morrison s
Beloved , Sally Keenan explores the need to remember and to tell and the desire to forget, memories
with an inexhaustible and monstrous power to erupt and overwhelm the mind but which must
somehow be laid aside if life is to continue (48). By this Keenan means that the novel accentuates the
difficulty that the characters face in order to forget their painful memories, which at the same time
cannot be disremembered. The urge to forget is complicated as it becomes laden with the feelings of
pain, guilt, shame and fear, which eventually leads to an assumption that the traumatic memories
cannot be forgotten.
In the first section I will discuss the need to remember and to tell , and ... Show more content on

Freshmen And Senior Participation At University Level Courses
In this study, there is an overall focus on both freshmen and senior participation in university level
courses. Does the seniority of students in universities effect their overall rate of success in one
hundred level courses? Therefore, are seniors less engaged than freshmen in these classes, and what is
effecting their success? Throughout this process, participants were observed and later seen in
interviews and focus groups to scope out and answer the hypothesis created for this study. Seniors
who are taking one hundred level courses will study less and be less engaged than freshmen, causing
them to do poorly in the class. This study was conducted to better understand the different constraints
that these two classes experience during their time at a university. Are seniors actually less engaged
than freshmen or is it simply an error in judgement?
During this process it is important to note that the students involved in participant observation were
not aware they were being studied. This was meant to keep a nonreactive research environment rather
than a reactive research environment. Not wanting the students to change their overall demeanor, it
would better the overall analysis. However, in both the interview and focus group conducted it was a
reactive environment which could alter the overall success of this analysis. First off, the focus group
conducted was done by another researcher and unfortunately yielded little results. Unlike the focus
group, the interview and

  • 2. The Ruins Of Gorlan Analysis Most Significant Plot In the book, The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan, there are a few plots. However, there is a plot which seems like the main one, but, in reality, there is another plot which is much bigger and more important. There is a change in plots as the first leads to the main plot. In chapter 19, the main characters Will and Halt see wild boar footprints. When Will suggests that they kill the boar, Halt disagrees because it is just too dangerous for the two of them to kill the boar. He s a big one, Will. You can see the size of the trial he s left. We could take half a dozen arrows to kill him, and even then he d take time to die. With a brute like this, it s better to make sure and bring along warriors like Sir Rodney and ... • 3. Charles Darwin Was Not the First to Develop a Theory of... From his theories that he claimed were developed during his voyage, Darwin eventually wrote his Origin of Species and Descent of Man, which exploded into the world market over twenty years after his return home. Wallace, King and Sanders wrote in Biosphere, The Realm of Life: In 1859, Charles Darwin published a theory of evolution that implied that humans evolved from apes. . .The Darwinian revolution was the greatest paradigm shift in the history of biology, and it greatly changed the way that ordinary men and women viewed their own place in the world. (1) World Book tells us: (2) . . .The study of the specimens from the voyage of the Beagle convinced Darwin that modern species had evolved from a few earlier ones. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, the origins of the Earth, the heavens, the seas, plants and animals, and men and women were wrapped in unquestioned dogmas, some of which hold true today. It is only comparatively recently, in societies and civilizations possessed of scientific knowledge and methods of investigation, that such dogmas have come under question. Contrary to this opinion though, we find in fact that evolutionary thought is itself a rather old idea. The editors of Biology Today would agree: Much has been written on whether or not the Darwinian theory was original. Inevitably, historians have concluded that there was little novelty in what Darwin and Wallace were saying. Down through the centuries, from ancient Greek times on, various writers have suggested that new species can arise through the modification of old and that among all the possible organic types, the world contains only those that can survive the struggle for life. (8) This is indeed interesting, that the concept that Darwin is given so much credit for was not even a very modern idea in his own day. We find that Anaximander of Miletus (611 B.C. 546 B.C.) advanced the traditional evolutionary idea, already quite common in his day, that life first evolved from a type of pre biotic soup, helped along a bit by the rays of the sun. He believed that the first animals developed from sea slime which had been evaporated by the suns rays. He also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Medication Errors And Its Effects On Health Care Medication errors have always been a problem; even today they still loom about health care facilities such as hospitals and assisted living homes. A medication error is as an error in the process of providing care for a patient that has potential to harm the patient. There also many different ways those medication errors can occur, prescription, preparation, distribution, transcription, administration and monitoring. It has been estimated by the Institute of Medicine that medication errors cause 1 of 131 outpatient and 1 of 854 inpatient deaths, (Wittich et al, 2013). Of those different ways medication errors can happen, all of them have multiple factors that go into them that can cause an error to occur. Medication errors cause many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The five rights are something that every person administrating drugs should know about and should use each time drug administration is being given to a patient. Later on there will be a discussion about the five rights and what should be done in preventing medication errors. The definition of a medication error is, an error in the process of administrating medication, which has the potential to lead to and possibly, harm to the patient. In an article written by Teunissen et al, 38% of all serious medication errors are related to medication administration and that the other medication processes (i.e., ordering, transcription, and dispensing) accounted for 39%, 12%, and 11% of all serious medication errors, respectively, (Teunissen et al, 2013). They found that time sensitive medication errors are the most common. This study used different types of medications, including those medications that react with food. There was a variety because some medications aren t as time sensitive as others may be. They concluded that time sensitive errors are clinically relevant in very few cases. Although the relevance of time errors may be small compared to other errors, clinical consequences may still occur as a result and a reduction of this type of errors would still be favorable, (Teunissen et al, 2013). Other classifications of medication errors include prescribing and monitoring. Prescribing and monitoring errors occur because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Heart and Blood Circulation Essay The Heart and Blood Circulation The heart is a four chambered muscular pump around the size of a fist. It beats about 100,000 times a day pumping around 2,000 gallons of blood through about 100,000 miles of organic tubing. The heart is a big muscle with four valves connected together to make a two stage pump. The heart gets its energy by oxidizing blood sugars. This released energy, contracts the heart s many muscle cells, and the four chambers squeeze blood out into the arteries. The arteries are thick walled muscular tubes which carry blood away from the heart. The heart has two sides the left ventricle and the right ventricle. The artery from the right ventricle pumps blood to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The venae cavae collects oxygen depleted blood from the body and routes the blood to the right atrium in the heart. When the right atrium squeezes, it pushes blood through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. Like the other three heart valves this is a one way valve (blood can only flow in one direction). When the right ventricle contracts, it pushes blood through the pulmonary valve and on into the lungs. Because it does not take much pressure to get blood to the lungs and back, the right side is smaller than the left. The left side has to work harder pumping blood to the rest of the body. Blood in our arteries is at a high pressure, blood in our veins is at low pressure. The blood, rich in oxygen, returns from the lungs through the pulmonary veins into the left atrium. To get all the way round blood has to go through the heart twice and this is why it is called a double circulation. Blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets floating in a liquid called plasma. The red blood cells contain haemoglobin and carry oxygen. Haemoglobin is a protein which becomes oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs. The white blood cells fight disease by making antibodies and fighting germs. Blood transports these vital materials around the body. Blood plasma contains nutrients, hormones and waste products. Oxygen is carried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Did Florence Contribute To The Renaissance Italian city states were small independent cities between the 9th and 15th century that gradually grew overtime. Important cities such as Florence, Genoa and Venice contributed to the Renaissance. However, Florence was one of the most significant of them all. During this period, money from wealthy groups such as the Medici family, was used to support famous artists who made this city important as it is. It was to be said that Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance, in other words the start of a whole new dimension full of new ideas. Leadership played an important role to help Florence gain importance. During the 15th to 18th century, the Medici family was a major influence to Florence even though they were an uncrowned monarch. Everyone there is used to hearing these words and is not startled by them. In the real world an average person would have no idea what some of these words mean. Stirrings is very serious in the community, so is being a Nurturer. Every living child in the community is given a comfort item until the age of eight. Although, having a comfort item is not that unusual like the other two words, most children have items they go to sleep with every night. These three words from the book are routine words to the community. One of the routine words for the community is Stirrings. These hormones are dumping into the bloodstream (Shier, Butler Lewis, 2009). The endocrine system does not have a single anatomic location. It is dispersed throughout the human body. The final purpose of this process is to control, regulate, and coordinate the functioning of the human body. Some body functions can be activated or inhibited by hormones, which are secreted in very small quantities. The hormone related diseases may be due to hyper secretion, or a hypo secretion. Hyperthyroidism (too much hormone) may result Grave s disease. Symptoms include anxiety, rapid heart rate, diarrhea and weight loss, nervousness, anxiety, and irritability. The parathyroid glands are located in front of the base of the neck around the thyroid gland and secrete parathyroid hormone. The adrenal glands secrete hormones that increase heart rate, the force of cardiac muscle contraction, breathing rate, elevate blood pressure and blood glucose level. This activity prepares the body foe energy expending action, sometimes called fight or flight responses (Shier et al., 2009). According to Shier, Butler Lewis (2009) other glands that produce hormones and thus are parts of the endocrine system include the pineal gland and the thymus gland . Shier et al., 2009 argued the pineal gland, located deep between the cerebral hemispheres, secretes hormone melatonin that acts on certain brain regions that function as a biological clock. • 10. Pursuit Of Power In Macbeth Seeking power is exhilarating but it can be someone s undoing. The hunt for power can oftentimes lead to different external and internal consequences, which can also depend on the person or environment. Shakespeare s Macbeth focuses on a character who eventually becomes obsessed with the pursuit of power, and trying to control the power that he already has. His power affects him and everyone around him. This act of trying to collect as much power as possible will ruin him, ultimately being his downfall. The real life example of Vladimir Putin showcases that he and people around him have also suffered the the consequences evident in Macbeth. Many times, the pursuit of power will lead to psychological impacts such as feeling fear and guilt which can show on the outside as delusion and insanity. Macbeth has hallucinations based around guilt and to others he seems delusional and insane. After he hires the three murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, they come back unsuccessful, only managing to kill Banquo. He is haunted by a hallucination of an apparition of (supposedly) Banquo and says (to GHOST) Thou canst not say I did it. Never shake. Thy gory locks at me./ Gentlemen, rise. His highness is not well (Shakespeare 3.4.61 63). Without being prompted by the ghost, Macbeth responds and another noble is weary of his actions. • 11. Charles Dickens Hard Times For These Times Fancy is a noun. It means the power of the mind to imagine things. Do not think about it; do not think about thinking about it. Just memorize it. Can you? There is only one right path that society has pinned you on. Like a toy car on a wooden train track, you are expected to complete the course without straying from it. If you do, you are considered broken. Yet, what exactly is the point of mindlessly walking the same path as everyone else, only to constantly find yourself memorizing empty facts over and over again? In Hard Times for these Times, Charles Dickens embodies the consequences of an absolutely factual world: blindness, imbalance, and nonfulfillment. Through the convoluted stories of the opposite worlds, Sissy s journey to becoming a jewel of balance, Louisa s tragic fight for fulfillment, and the harmonious character Sleary, Dickens defines the urgency for the proportional combination of fact and fancy. Gradgrind s education system is structured to plucking imagination and emotions out of the lives of children, resulting in dangerous, machine like human beings. He closed mindedly abides to rules and facts; dreams and abstractness is a crime. For example, Bounderby, Gradgrind s subordinate, insists that his workers expect to be fed on turtle soup and vension, with a golden spoon (72), while on the other hand, the workers believe that they are unfairly treated like dumb objects. Both Bounderby and the workers think their opinion is the fact, but it shrivels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mandela s ultimate success had to do with his character and background. Although he was born in a royal family, grew up in a divided region of South Africa between blacks and whites. He still managed to maintain a correct mindset to a path leading to success. You can come from a small surrounding and have a bigger triumph than someone who comes from a lot more, or it s the total opposite. One s background definitely has an impact on successful people. If it were a different person with a different background, hence the situation would have turned out differently. Many people are born already into an easier lifestyle because of the place their family has already had. Robert Oppenheimer was a smart guy who turned out to be successful with the support of his family and wealth. Oppenheimer didn t face the lifetime struggles, Lagan has. But he did suffer from depression and was emotionally unstable, which made sense as to why, Oppenheimer took some chemicals from the laboratory and tried to poison his tutor (Gladwell 98). The first instance is that any person is going to go to jail for any crime he or she did, no matter who they are or what reputation they hold. But for this case, Oppenheimer was taken out the hot seat and was not punished. I believe he was let out of the situation way too easily and it was odd for them to do. Gladwell here covers every detail of Oppenheimer s case, making it to the university and how they handled it, Blackett, luckily, found out that something was amiss. The university was informed. Oppenheimer was called on the carpet. And what happened next is every bit as unbelievable as the crime itself. As a result of incomplete combustion of fuels, additional by products such as carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM) are also formed. Many of these emissions have health and climate impacts on both a local and global level. (Jamin et al, 2004) Globally the environmental impact of aircraft largely results from two major sources, the emissions of greenhouse gases (mainly CO2, HC, NO2) and the creation of high altitude water vapor resulting in the formation of contrails. Contrails are created in the wake of an aircraft as the warm, moist engine exhaust gas expands and mixes with colder and drier outside air. Water droplets can be formed and these droplets rapidly freeze to form ice crystals. With enough water vapor, the amount of condensation to ice is faster than that of evaporation, and the ice crystals will grow to form visible contrails (see Schumann (1996) for a review). Contrails affect the climate by reducing solar heating during the day and radiation of heat during the night by increasing the extent to which it diffusely reflects light, therefore reducing the range between day and night temperatures. My involvement with these educators throughout the years would become very instrumental in not only my learning, but also becoming an educator. A parent will educate us as youth on what we perceive as home training, family values and morals. Preachers can be educators as they educate you on the bible and the way of life. Teachers who serve as a master educator, serves a vital part of a child s learning and learning needs. Within this he derived a number of models over the period of his life to explain how the psyche operates and from where trauma originates, which subsequently led to the development of psychoanalysis. Ronald Fairbairn was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh teaching medicine where he incorporated his extensive knowledge of Freud s structural model in his lectures. It was during this time that uncertainties provoked Fairbairn to questions the accuracy of the structural model and initiated Fairbairn s quest to find an alternative theory, which later led to him becoming one of the key contributors to Object relations theory along side, Melanie Klein, and D.W Winnicott. In David Mazzucchelli s graphic novel Asterios Polyp color is used to express both emotion and time through his use of the printer primary colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. Because of Mazzuccehlli s use of color and the abstract form of his comic panels, his comic is considered an alternative comic. Breaking the barriers of what readers are familiar with when it comes to the aesthetics of a comic, while at the same time being able to make it not seem vastly unfamiliar. Asterios Polyp takes the reader to a whole other world as they are navigated through the mind and memories of Asterios by narration from his dead twin brother. Similar to Mazzuccehlli, Paul Thomas Anderson incorporates meaning through color in his film Punch Drunk Love (2002). In this essay I will compare the use of color in both Asterios Polyp and Punch Drunk Love with regards to its significance in both, and how form is used to express both emotion and time. With regards to form, I will focus on the Mazzuccehlli s eccentric panel distribution and the variation of space in between the panels, which separates it from most comics. In serving their own interests, people would serve the public interest, unconsciously, as if guided, as he said, by an unseen hand. Capitalism is built on self interest, it s a system of give me more and can never inspire admiration. Today there seems to not be a better alternative to capitalism, but anti market feelings persist. This, combined with ever increasing recognition of fugitive slave labors importance to the Union war effort, led Congress to declare in March 1892 that Union soldiers were forbidden to return fugitive slaves to their owners. Even with this change in policy, the federal government continued to overrule emancipation efforts as they attempted to retain the loyalty of slaveholding boarder states. When General David Hunter proclaimed freedom for all slaves in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, he was quickly overruled by President Lincoln. It could be about her father, husband, strong authority figure, or even God. But, as I read Daddy I got the strong sense that it was mostly about her father. The poem suggests that she had either an unhealthy relationship with him or she was angry with him for leaving her. Globalization has resulted in interconnecting the world in such a manner that was unimaginable even two decades ago. No longer can any state, nation, or people expect to remain an island. Indeed, as we are interconnected, so too are our fates. If the United States is to ensure security and prosperity for her citizens now and for future generations, we must clearly acknowledge that part we play in the continuum of shifting word powers and peace. We must recognize that although we are the world s leading power, we are not the sole possessor and arbiter of influence. The nuclear arms race of the Cold War years has given way to a race for building alliances in this age of globalization. If we are to be successful in our pursuit of a more peaceful and sustainable world order, we must be cognizant of the opportunities to help fledgeling democracies take root. • 33. The Theme Of Memories In Toni Morrison s Beloved In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, memories are seen as powerful instruments which haunt the characters throughout the narrative. During the institution of slavery, slaves were dehumanised and treated subordinately. This novel asserts the fact that slaves were actually human beings, by exploring the ways that they had to endure the disturbing and traumatic memories of it, and still find ways to live. In the article Four Hundred Years of Silence: Myth, History and Motherhood in Toni Morrison s Beloved , Sally Keenan explores the need to remember and to tell and the desire to forget, memories with an inexhaustible and monstrous power to erupt and overwhelm the mind but which must somehow be laid aside if life is to continue (48). Does the seniority of students in universities effect their overall rate of success in one hundred level courses? Therefore, are seniors less engaged than freshmen in these classes, and what is effecting their success? Throughout this process, participants were observed and later seen in interviews and focus groups to scope out and answer the hypothesis created for this study. Seniors who are taking one hundred level courses will study less and be less engaged than freshmen, causing them to do poorly in the class. This study was conducted to better understand the different constraints that these two classes experience during their time at a university. Are seniors actually less engaged than freshmen or is it simply an error in judgement? During this process it is important to note that the students involved in participant observation were not aware they were being studied. This was meant to keep a nonreactive research environment rather than a reactive research environment. Not wanting the students to change their overall demeanor, it would better the overall analysis. However, in both the interview and focus group conducted it was a reactive environment which could alter the overall success of this analysis. First off, the focus group conducted was done by another researcher and unfortunately yielded little results. Unlike the focus group, the interview and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
