The Viola Research Paper
Over past millennia s, when music was first coming to be recognized, there were many different
types of instruments. Over many years leading up to today, types of instruments were created and
perfected, for the most part. The different instruments created over time were the woodwind
instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, keyboard instruments, and one of those
was the percussion instruments. The string instruments cover a multitude of instruments, there are
orchestral types and even some that are plucked. Violins, viola, cello, double bass, harps, guitars,
lute, and even ukuleles are just a few of the many other stringed instruments there are. The
definition of a stringed instrument is a musical instrumentwhose tone is... Show more content on

The double bass is set up behind the cello, and viola section, on the right side of the stage. Even
though the instrument is used in the string sections, it is not 100%, a member of the violin family,
with the violin, viola, and cello. The bow is shorter and thicker than the cello bow. It uses a
horsehair bow, and there are two types of bows for this instrument, the French bow, and the German
bow. The French bow is used overhand, the back of the hand facing the listener, and the German
bow is used underarm, the thumb facing upward. The French bow is similar to the cello, but shorter
and thicker, and the German bow is slimmer, with thinner horsehair. The double bass is the only
modern bowed string instrument that is tuned in fourths (like a viol), rather than fifths. The
players are either standing or sitting, on a long legged stool, in order to play the instrument. The
double bass is similar with the violin, viola, and cello in that it was created around the 15th 16th
century, off of the outline of the viol. The double bass is a hybrid in the viol family, it has violin
specifications and some attributes that are not related to the viol. This instrument is just one of the
many instruments used in the string section of an orchestra, in modern day life of

The Defense Of Self Defense
Self Defense: The self defense claim has been around for many years and has been categorized
in the courts as an excuse or justification. One of the rarely considered premises of the excuse
/justification debate is that defenses are naturally unified. (Nourse V F, 2001). Depending on the
individual cases self defense might turn out to be both an excuse and a justification. If this is
accurate then the debate on excuses and justifications does not solve the problem of the theory of
necessity or imminence. Self defense is when a defendant states that he or she was confronted by a
serious threat of bodily harm or even death, this threat appears to be imminent, and therefore the
only action for the defendant at that moment was both necessary and proportionate. There are two
factors that do not qualify under the defense of self defense which are the defendant turned out to
be the aggressor or if the defendant failed to retreat from the threat. Self defense rules that for a
defendants actions to be justified there needed to be an imminent threat. For many years there has
been a disagreement in whether the law has become subjective or that the instructions given to the
jurors are objective. Many scholars believe that one problem involving imminent is there being too
much time between the threat and the actual killing. The self defense claim is commonly used for
victims of battered women. Many facts for women claiming battered women syndrome do not add
up to self defense

Brooklyn Train Station Research Paper
This field research project is on the accessibility of Brooklyn train stations for non ambulatory
individuals. I frequently ride the subways to travel to Manhattan and the stations I have come
across in the past such as 42nd street Time Square, 34th street Herald Square, and 14th street
Union Square all appeared to be accessible to disabled people who use wheelchairs. I wanted to
explore four train stationin Brooklyn both busy and non busy stations to see how accessible they
are. The first Brooklyn train station that I visited was the Broadway Junction train station. This
station is located on Fulton Street and Vansiderdan Avenue, the border of East New York. This
station serves the A,C,J, L, and Z trains. Broadway Junction station is one of the busiest stations in
Brooklyn. I arrived to this station via busduring morning rush hour. I immediately notice
construction being done on the sidewalk making the remaining sidewalk very narrow. It was
difficult to find a slope to get on the sidewalk if I were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This station has another entrance located on St. Pauls and Caton Avenue. Although this station
only serves two lines, Q and B, it is also a very busy station. I began my observations by walking
from the busy shopping area on Flatbush Avenue to the train station entrance on Church Avenue
and East 18th street. Immediately I noticed one step in order to get into the station. As in all
stations there was metro card machines and tollbooth clerk. There was also a gate that the clerk
buzzed if someone needed to pass. There were two stairwells, Manhattan bound and Coney Island
bound. There was no elevator in sight. In fact I witnessed a mother carrying a stroller with a child
up the stairs. Once I was on the platform, I walked to the second exit/entrance and noticed another
long stairwell to get out of the

Wicca s Role In Pagan Religion
Virtually everyone has heard of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. But among the three religions that
are close to being tied for fourth place in the United States, almost everyone has heard of
Buddhism and Hinduism. If you mention Wicca to the average American, you will probably
receive a blank stare. A major reason for this is that many Wiccans tend to keep their religionsecret;
they fear physical and economic attack.(http://www.religioustolerance.org/wic_prac.htm)
So with that being said, what exactly is wicca and why is it important? Wica is the basic belief
where individuals have the ability to follow their own inspiration and vision while seeking faith.
In order to fully grasp wicca, the understanding of the Pagan religion is highly recommend.

In most religions around the world, women were stuck in the patriarchal system in religion.
Women had a specific role in religion, where they were not allowed to achieve much higher status
of control or power within the religion. Wicca on the other hand valued women, and the idea of
creating new life. It is said that a women can control a race, whether it s, financially, economically,
or physically, women were the importance of the religion.
As wicca began to spread throughout Europe, it attracted many different types of cultures. Since
no one cultures was identical it was incredible that wicca attracted a variety of people. Wicca
unlike anything Europen was use to, was very accepting. Wicca accepted those of every faith
including, monotheistic, polytheistic, ritualistic, feminine based, masculine based, and more. Any
practiced no matter what it was or origin was accepted by the wicca people. That being said the
ancient tradition of wicca is still practiced

Case Study on Herpes Zoster
History of Present Illness: This is a case of a 27 year old Asian female who came to the clinic
complaining of pain on her right hand. She states that it feels like pins and needles going up to
my arm She denies fever but states that she feels body malaise. She claims to have slight loss of
appetite because of the pain. Pain level is about 7 8/10, occurs continuously and is temporarily
relieved by Tylenol 500 mg. She noted the appearance of tiny blisters on her hand and upper arm
which started about a week ago. The pain according to the patient is described as throbbing and
tingling sensation. Patient otherwise has no other complaints.
Past Medical History: Patient denies prior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laboratory tests are available to diagnose herpes zoster. The most popular test detects VZV specific
IgM antibody in blood; this appears only during chickenpox or herpes zoster and not while the
virus is dormant. In larger laboratories, lymph collected from a blister is tested by polymerase
chain reaction for VZV DNA, or examined with an electron microscope for virus particles.
Therapeutic treatment Plan: The aims of treatment are to limit the severity and duration of pain,
shorten the duration of a shingles episode, and reduce complications. For pain, this patient will be
prescribed an over the counter analgesic such as Tylenol 500 mg 1 tablet PO every 4 hrs PRN for
pain. Topical lotions containing calamine can be used on the rash or blisters and may be soothing.
Once the lesions have crusted over, capsaicin cream (Zostrix) can be used. Bathe with cool water
and wash the blisters twice a day with regular soap and water but do not bandage them .Apply cool
compresses to the blisters to relieve the pain and itch.
Health Promotion and Education: and Prevention: All patients with herpes zoster should be
educated on the disease process and natural course of the disease. The nursing /medical goal is to
prevent infection and complications of the disease and to reduce the pain of shingles. Patients
should be instructed on medications including dose,

Dbq What Drove The Sugar Trade
DBQ Essay What Drove the Sugar Trade?
Beginning in the late 1600s and continuing through the 1700s the demand for sugar became
incredibly high due to its addictive qualities. To supply the consumers with sugar they were craving,
wealthy Europeans established sugar plantations throughout the Caribbean and built a thriving
slave industry, so their need for cheap labor could be satisfied. Sugar consumption increased from
4.6lbs to 16.2lbs per capita annually from 1700 to 1770 due to the increasing addiction of the
consumers. Since the demand was so high, the manufacturers were faced with maintaining a high
crop yield, but luckily the Caribbean islands provided an ideal location for growing cane sugar.
Once plantations were constructed yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the efforts to colonize the Caribbean islands, by 1750 they were almost all owned by
Spain, France, or England, meaning these countries now had access to and control over this
area that they did not previously; they took advantage of this newfound power (Doc 1). Sugar
requires a specific climate to grow plentifully (i.e. 68В° 90В°F) and this was something the
Caribbean islands provided the Europeans with; if European countries had not had taken control
in the Caribbean islands the sugar industry would not have survived (Doc 2). At this time, the
Caribbean islands were the only location that the Europeans had access to that provided the
correct climate. The landscape was ideal and led to a high crop yield and without it the
consumers would be at a loss (Doc 8). Through the 1700s and into the 1800s, in Barbados,
Jamaica, Saint Domingue, and Cuba, sugar production rates escalated, but this vast increase was
made possible only by the natural conditions of the Caribbean islands (Doc 10). Still, not only
consumer addiction and access to a prime location were able to drive the sugar industry alone,
labor was

The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Rhetorical Analysis
In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, the author Le Guin establishes the idea that one can
not enjoy happiness that results from the immoral, discriminatory victimization of someone
else. Upon first look, the city of Omelas seems like a fairy tale utopia where everyone is happy,
yet underneath this veil of splendor, there is a child that is neglected and abused to the point of
where some people are so sickened that they must leave Omelas. All of Omelas s glamour and
joy depends solely on the suffering of this child, and if the child were to be rescued, all goodness
in Omelas would be destroyed. The people of Omelas know that theirs is no vapid irresponsible
happiness. They know that they, like the child, are not free (47). The passage reveals that the
people fully understand the terms of the child s misery.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, their happiness is not even true happiness because it is constantly shadowed by the
knowledge of the child s suffering, and yet paradoxically, they feel morally obligated to be
happy for the sake of the child. In a sense, they are so bound to the child that they do not have
any more freedom than the child itself. In contrast, there are also people who are so disturbed by
this dark secret of the child that they leave Omelas...toward [a] place...that [possibly] does not
exist. But they seem to know where they are going (47). To leave Omelas for the unknown would
need considerable courage, but they know that they will never be truly happy staying in Omelas.
Just like how the people of Omelas know that the joy built upon successful slaughter is not the
right kind of joy, those who leave understand that happiness at the expense of a scapegoat, such as
the child, is also not the right kind of joy

Supportive Family Goals
Having a supportive family is the most important thing that you can have when you are trying to
achieve goals. Without the supporting family, it will be likely that you won t or can t achieve the
goals. Many things can help/hinder your progress in achieving these goals such as financial status,
social class, levels of education, or even familytradition. Though these things do affect the
progress towards these goals, I know that it is still possible to achieve these goals. Race and
certain neighborhoods did hinder a lot of people from achieving success, but my mom grew up
in a very affluent neighborhood where she saw very successful people which led her to believe
that success was easy to obtain. Growing up, my mom had a mom and a dad present in her
household, that each had a job, were very supportive and only wanted success for their daughter.
At that time, the neighborhood they were in was average which allowed her to see how to be
successful and make her strive to be successful. Her parents wouldn t accept anything less than
110% and expected her to be successful. Living in a nicer neighborhood and having a supportive
family made it easier for her to continue striving for success. My mom s family was middle class
and was ineligible for many of the financial assistance programs, so all of the schooling or
programs she took part in she had to work to put herself through. Being with a successful family,
this made her journey to becoming successful much easier financially.

Salary Caps In Professional Sports
Salary caps are a very important tool used in professional sports. All 4 major professional sports
leagues in the United States have a salary cap installed into their collective bargaining agreement
between the league and its players. Those four major sports are, the NFL, the NBA, the MLB and
the NHL. A salary capis defined as s an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of
money that a team can spend on players salaries. It can be as a per player limit or a total limit for
the team s roster. It is basically put in place to help the small market teams stay competitive. It is
meant so the wealthy teams, also called big market teams, does not always stay dominant by

able to use this exception a player must play for three seasons without clearing waivers or changing

teams to exceed the cap to re sign their own free agents, but with more limited contracts than the
Larry Bird exception. To qualify for this exception the player must play for two seasons without

The Struggle in Crime and Punishment Essay
The Struggle in Crime and Punishment
Reading this book makes you ill because from the beginning to the end you watch as psychological
forces eat away at the thoughts and actions of their victim causing him to finally confess to the
hideous crime he has committed. The story is basically the struggle between Raskolnikov s
Napoleon Гјbermensch theory and his conscience which make him confess to his crime. Dostoevsky
s genius is in describing how Raskolnikov struggles in his thoughts and actions. His thoughts
become increasingly disjointed and desperate and his actions show that he has an increasing need
to escape the uncertainty of being convicted, to talk about the crime, to confess, and to suffer for
his crime. It is even at times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He lets the criminal incriminate himself. It s uncanny how Profiry manages to keep Raskolnikov
hovering around him until he finally confesses it s also uncanny to realize how natural it is for
Raskolnikov to come under Porfiry s psychological spell. This leads to a central question of the
book: are laws just abitrary human constructs or are there psychological laws which govern our
behavior in societies. Raskolnikov believes (as he wrote in his article) that people can rise above
human laws as Napoleon did, but Profiry (and Dostoevsky) believe otherwise:
What is running away? it s merely formal; the point isn t that he won t run away because he has
nowhere to run to, but that psychologically he won t escape, he, he! What an expression! By a
law of his nature he wouldn t escape, even if he had somewhere to escape to. Have you ever seen
a moth with a candle? Well, he ll be just like that, he ll circle round me as if I were a candle:
Freedom will no longer be a boon to him; he will begin to brood, he will get himself into a
muddle, entangle his own feet in a net, and worry himself to death! . . . More than that, he
himself will provide me with a mathematical proof, of the nature of two and two make four if
only I allow a long enough interval between the acts of the drama . . . And he ll keep on, keep on
circling round me, closer and closer, and then, plop! he ll fly straight into my mouth and

The Scope Of Computerized Threat Rootkits Essay
In the scope computerized threat rootkits are not given the credit they deserve. They tend to be
minimized while they proved to be a much serious danger. Dr Mark Ciampa had categorized
rootkits under the concealment subgroup of malware, which avoiding detection is their primary
characteristic. He had briefly defined rootkits as set software tools used to hide the actions of
other types of software by changing the operating system to force it to ignore their malicious files
and activities. Rootkits also hide or remove all traces of evidence that may reveal the malware, he
said. His definition is not totally accurate even though he pin pointed the main purpose for what
rootkits are used for, which is concealment. Contrary to the popular believe rootkits are not malware
and not necessarily malicious. Greg Hoglund and James Butler in the Subverting Windows Kernel
Rootkits book identified rootkits as a computingtechnology that can be used for evil or goods
purposes. For the sake of this paper, the attention given to rootkits will be focusing on understanding
what a rootkitis and how it works, the different type of rootkits and their implementations, detection
measure to not get infected and preventive measure to avoid infection.
Before, delving into the subject it s important to highlight that rootkits can be whitehat or blackhat.
A black hat use of rootkits is clearly attributed for a malicious agenda. For instance, an attacker who

Answer to Question 1 In the SANDC, there are 33 picking stations in the area where the tote
bins are moved to the bin to bin system of the picking areas. All of these picking stations have 12
of these bins on the lower levels and these 12 lower level bins represent stores which are to be
picked. On the other hand, on the higher level conveyor, the bins are gotten to two locations in
front of the person picking. The person picking picks as per the instructions of a system of pick
to light. Beside every bin is a display showing the number of items which are to be picked from
the upper bins. In the same way, lower bins also have a display showing the items to be
removed. The person who is performing the task of picking, is to complete the requirements of
each of the tasks being displayed and then press buttons accordingly to show that each of the tasks
that were displayed have, in fact, been completed. When this happens, the bin is returned to its
place by an automated system and the person has to now start picking from the second bin on the
upper hand. The bins on further ends keep replacing bins that are being completed as and when the
picker presses the buttons indicating completion. The bins that are completed are then transported
to a despatch buffer store and loaded into automated dolly machines. There are 10 of these tote
bins placed on each dolly machine which are then assembled in groups of three. Then a vehicle

Air Canada Five Forces Analysis
Porter s Five Forces is a simple but powerful tool that consist of 5 different forces to understand
the competitiveness of your business environment, and for identifying your strategy s potential
profitability. The five forces are degree of rivalry, threat of entry, threat of substitutions, buyer
power, and supplier power. Each force is helpful in their own way to get to know your rivals a lot
better and get to know what can happen in your market.
Air Canada
Force #1 Degree of Rivalry
The number of rivals that Air Canada would have would depend on the location of the airports. The
major competitors for Air Canada are American Airlines Group, Delta Air Lines
, WestJet Airlines,
and Porter Airlines. The quality of these other airlines depends on each of their planes, some of
Delta Air Lines planes are a lot bigger so they can offer a lot more than Air Canada. Air Canada
offers a lot of services as they have a lot of flights that fly from city to city in Canada unlike
Delta or American air lines. Air Canada competes a lot with WestJet and Porter airlines in Canada.
Rivalry is more intense at bigger airports around Canada. For example, Charlottetown only has
three different airlines that currently fly here every week. Where in Toronto they experience a lot
more air traffic so more airlines can offer better deals to fly somewhere from Toronto to anywhere
in the world where Charlottetown. If people in Charlottetown can find a better flight from Moncton
or Halifax they might

Analysis Of The Book Why America Slept By Gerald Posner
Daniela Reynoso October 17, 2014 Capron Online CRJ 115 05In the book, Why America Slept:
The Failure to Prevent 9/11, by Gerald Posner he argues that the act of terrorism that occurred on
September 11, 2001 could have and should have been prevented. He presented a powerful case
of how stupidity and misdirected priorities made America an easy aim for terrorists. Gerald
Posner, the author of the book was a former Wall Street Lawyer, award winning investigative
journalist and bestselling author. Posner purposefully wrote this book to demonstrate all the
clues that were given out prior to the attack and inform us on previously undisclosed information
after a thorough 18 month investigation. Posner s goal was to discover what the CIA, FBI, and
others in the Government were doing behind the scenes for at least a decade leading up to 9/11.
The intended audience for this book is anyone who is willing to open their eyes on the true
occurrences that happened on 9/11. The title of the piece is related directly to the book and the
subject matter of it. America slept on all the clues that they received that there would be a terrorist
attack and the book demonstrated how exactly they failed to prevent the acts that occurred on 9
/11. Why America Slept is such a staggering book and Posner successfully demonstrates to the
audience how 9/11 could have been prevented through his use of examples and facts. In this
powerful and persuasive book, Gerald Posner reveals after an eighteen month

Nozick s Notion Of Historical Entitlement
Nozick asserts that the state should not be able to prohibit capitalist transfers between consenting
adults. In this paper I will argue that this claim is true in all circumstances regardless of the
resulting inequality. I will begin my analysis by explaining why it is that Nozick makes this claim.
This explanation will focus on articulating his detailed description of just acquisition and transfer of
holdings. I will then move on to describe how Nozick s conclusion regarding just transfers results
in him forbidding stateintervention restricting capitalist acts. The focus here will be on detailing
how Nozick s notion of historical entitlement combats the competing theories of justicein holdings,
namely theories composed of end state principles and patterned principles. Finally, I will address
common concerns and anticipate rebuttals to Nozick s claim and show how they are unsuccessful
in their attempts. Nozick believes that a state should not prohibit consensual transfers between fit
individuals due in part to the sacrifice of liberty that it entails. Nozick puts forth a theory of
entitlement that does not include such a sacrifice. It consists of two main components: the principle
of justice in acquisition and the principle of justice in transfer. The two principles together bring
about a state of justice in holdings. Justice in transfer is concerned with answering the question of
how a person may rightfully transfer a holdingto another individual as well as

Stereotypes In Legally Blonde
When a friend asks you if you want to watch a movie, usually this suggestion doesn t end in you

immune to the cringe worthy blonde jokes and stereotypes. Since I had basically grown up with
these constant comparisons of the ditsy blonde or the famous doll barbie. Therefore when my
good friend Megan suggested watching Legally Blonde as the movie for the night, I was
confident that I had every lame joke, comparison, and stereotype covered thus I was unfazed by
any of the future attacks. Let me tell you, I was wrong. As soon that she pressed the play button, I

Shar Pei in High School Musical or Regina George from Mean Girls are a few examples of the 2
D image of the same stereotype but with the classic spin of the Blonde bitch . This doesn t really
change the character, only makes the blonde barbie more dislikable. The character still is
swimming in the color pink, with less than average intelligence and of course has to be filthy
rich. Elle Woods, the main character of legally blonde was the epitome of Hollywood s take on
the blonde trait. What makes this movie out of all the others at the top of the most insulting is
its presentation. It is presented as if the makers of Legally Blonde are defending the gene and
thus even a blonde can become a lawyer or even go to Harvard . Of course the main reason Elle
does apply to go to Harvard is only to get back with her boyfriend which makes this less of an
honorable action. The movie plays light heartedly on the theme that blondes aren t taken seriously
only to add on to the issue. In an article written about blonde jokes in the media, they explore the
long life of the blond stereotype. The prototypes appearing in many comic texts the dumb blonde,
the irritating wife and the awful mother in law are always defined by an exaggeration of a
traditional feminine stereotype. Thus, the dumb blonde is an extreme version of the dumb woman
and sex object stereotypes (Shifman, 20).In making

Comparing Gerald Manley Hopkins Spring And Fall
We have all dreamed of having that perfect something; that thing we expected would be there
and would make us happy for a particular moment or for the rest of our lives. Whether it is
traveling to the best vacation spot, attending one s dream school, working our dream job, etc.,
we have all had expectations of having the perfect thing. Unfortunately, not all our dreams have
turned out the way we had hoped; sometimes we realize that perfect thing we have always
dreamt about does not exist. This disappointment of realizing that perfect something is not what
we had hoped for can be found in Gerald Manley Hopkins Spring and Fall . Spring and Fall is
written as if the speaker is speaking to a young girl named Margaret. The poem starts off with
the speaker asking the young girl, Margaret, are you grieving over Goldengrove unleaving? (S F,
lines 1 2). Margaret appears to be upset the leaves are falling from the trees, which is a sign the
seasons are changing from summer to fall. Since she is a young child, she would see the leaves
falling and be disappointed she will not be able to play outside as often. She would notice... Show

she loves as only temporary pleasures. There is nothing she or anyone else can do to prevent not

Everyone is going to experience this inevitability because It is the blight man was born for , the
blight being death (S F, line 14). All things, no matter how long or how short live for, will die.
Everything has to have a beginning and an end. No matter who you are, everyone will experience

What Are The Advantages Of Snorkeling
Snorkeling is the ideal way to view some of the amazing marine life that surrounds the Galapagos
Islands. It can be learned in a few hours and even children can do it. It opens up a wonderland of
lifeforms that you would completely miss if you stay on land.
Snorkeling in the Water around the Galapagos May Be the Highlight of Your Trip
In Their Natural Setting
Snorkeling is one way to see the marine life in its natural setting. Another way is scuba diving. The
main advantage of snorkeling is the freedom from complicated gear and extended lessons. Unless
you are traveling with a group that has packed for diving, snorkeling is your best option. All you
need is a mask, snorkel and fins. You may want a wetsuit if you are diving on the western islands
where the water is cooler. Otherwise, it is not essential. There is special equipment for children to
help them stay in the right position.
If you visit the Galapagos on an expedition cruise, you will be provided with the necessary
snorkeling equipment and receive lessons. Your professional naturalist guide will help you see and
recognize the varied marine life that you will encounter.

Literature Review
In recent years, mental health professionals have become increasingly aware of the importance of
genetic factors in the etiology (causes) of mental disorders. Since the Human Genome Project
began its mapping of the entire sequence of human DNA in 1990, the implications of its findings
for psychiatric diagnosis and treatment have accumulated rapidly. A new subspecialty known as
biological psychiatry (also called physiological psychology or psychiatric genetics) has emerged
from the discoveries of the last two decades. Biological psychiatry got its start in the late 1980s,
when several research groups identified genes associated with manic depression and schizophrenia
respectively. These studies ran into difficulties fairly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Media s Impact on Politics Essay
Here in America, we try to pay close attention to everything that goes on in the government.
Whatever decision they make we want to know when, where, why, and how. This is because
whatever decision that they make will determine what will happen with this country as a whole in
the long run. So what is the best way to find out what s going on with our government? Why the
media of course. The media plays a major part in every aspect of the government including what
happens in elections, the reporting of major military operations and how the American peoplewill
react to certain political situations or scandals. Here are some the ways that the media affects the
way we think when it comes to the government.
The Right to Laugh: Media Satire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One recent case where the mass media poked fun at and satirized the government was the year 2000
election. In the time where ballots and votes became confused and the state of Florida became the
punch line to many a water cooler joke, shows such as the ones above took the story and ran with it.
From the very beginning the satire of political figures played its role in the election. According to
the Washington Post and the Pew Research Center, 47 percent of Americans under the age of 30
receive around 26% of their information about candidates, amongst other political matters, through
late night comedy television. This trend has been labeled by many Infotainment. The viewers are
receiving information about political issues and their government, but through a sarcastic or
humorous filter that creates a different culture of informed citizens.
When the poll results in the 2000 election came in, the jokes seemed to last longer than the re
counts. Even now 3 years later the jokes continue to be evoked. Recently at the academy awards,
while on stage to receive his academy award for his very humorous gun control documentary
Bowling for Columbine Michael Moore called George W. Bush a fictitious president while
following with jokes about the pope and the Dixie chicks.
Indeed, when we live in an entertainment and media saturated culture such as the USA, such

Prejudice Research Paper
Prejudice Paper
Today we still see prejudice every day and sometimes it is often overlooked. Fortunately, this is
something we have gotten better at but there is still work to be done. It is important to know what
defines prejudice and understand how to be self aware. Developing good strategies to overcome
prejudice is also important in order to better understand this topic. We should understand why
people hold prejudice and how it affects people.
Prejudice, is a judgement based on the assumption that we already have all the information we need
to know about a person. (Steven A. Beebe) Antisemitismduring modern times is one of the most
severe examples of prejudice throughout history. This prejudice towards the Jewish people during
1933 1945 is considered to be one of the worst atrocities ever.
According to Maslow s framework, and the four stages of competence. We can use self awareness
to help prevent prejudice. The first stage of competence is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One way an individual can prevent prejudice is through self awareness and educating themselves
on how and why prejudice happens. Understanding the history of prejudice is also important in
prevention. If an individual finds themselves a victim of prejudice, they should not be quiet about it
and should know it is not acceptable to be treated this way.
Although prejudice is still very much alive in our society and all types of people experience
prejudice due to many reasons. Today It has become less acceptable though because of the
understanding of what it is and with the correct awareness it should continue to get better.
Understanding what defines prejudice and the type of steps that we can use are going to be
needed. Knowing why it happens is just an important to preventing prejudice as well. Lastly I
hope we never have to see extreme forms of prejudice like antisemitism again as we should learn
from history as

Ireland Fits Well Into Arend Lijphart s Consensus Model...
Scotland fits well into Arend Lijphart s consensus model of democracy, however only to a certain
extent. Arend Lijphart s strategy of the consensus model is how majoritarian a government is. The
consensus model aims to share out power so that it is not all down to the one governing party. The
consensus model is very important when it comes to Scotlandas it can be argued that is only
effective for highly divided societies. There are a few significant elements such as party systems,
proportional representation and the comparison between the Scotland and New Zealand which will
be investigated in this essay.
Arend Lijphart could argue that Scotland is moving away from a firm two party system and
drawing closer towards a multi party system. Currently in Scotland, the Scottish National Party
(SNP) is the largest party in the country, with two medium parties which are the Scottish
Conservatives and Unionist Party along with the Scottish Labour Party. Moreover, the shape in
which the Scottish Parliament was designed is to promote consensus and grown up debate rather
than the set up of Westminster as it a confrontational style of politics. There are also two smaller
parties which are the Scottish Green Party and the Scottish Liberal Democrats. The multiparty
system enables more than one party to take charge of the country as it is trying to get as many
people as possible governing for the country which can be extremely beneficial as it allows power
sharing and therefore in time

Lewis Cass And Andrew Jackson s The Cherokee Removal Act
The Cherokee Removal Act is believed to have been causation of prolonged engagement between
the settlers of Georgia, Alabama, and parts of North and South Carolina up until 1836, when
Andrew Jackson officially signed it into law. Andrew Jackson had a lot to say about the need for
removal of natives and two main reasons why it has been such a lengthy procedure. Another man
who also had something to say about the matter at hand was Lewis Cass who was Governor of the
Michigan Territory from 1816 1831. He was well known as one of the most experienced, and highly
thoughtful experts in the country on United StatesIndian policy and the histories and cultures of the

Andrew Jackson in his state of the union address of 1830 had the pleasure to announce his long
fought battle in favor of removal had began coming to existence. Humanity and Philanthropy
were two of his main points for why this has been such a strenuous task put upon the nation by
the natives. Humanity has often wept over the fate of the aborigines of this country, and
philanthropy has been long busily employed in devising means to advert it. (127) Jacksonbrings
up the point regarding Americans moving west and humanity not weeping at the fact that they
leave but are rather joyful due to the freedoms of body and mind (128) America grants. Jackson
even goes far as asking the American public How many thousands of our own people would
gladly embrace removing to the west on such conditions? (128) Jackson also discussed the
removal procedure and about how the government can be fair and liberal if they agreed to the
laws of the states from which they are present or how the government can be harsh if the
alternative for removal isn t accepted by the natives. Both Andrew Jackson and Cass have similar
arguments relating to Philanthropy between Civilized people and the Indians believing it has

King David s Dance Analysis
On Tuesday, April 11, I attended the University of Evansville s Springs Classic Wind Ensemble
production, which was performed in their Neu Chapel Sanctuary. The wind ensemble was
composed of approximately forty five performers. The various instruments included piccolo,
bassoon, euphonium, as well as the typical wind and brass instruments such as clarinets, flutes,
trumpets, and trombones. The University of Evansville s wind ensemble was conducted by
Kenneth Steinsultz. The wind ensemble opened the performance with their own variation of

Explain The Just War Theory
Since the end of the Cold War, there was the prospect of international conflict and state aggression
would cease and be managed by international organisation. The Cold War was a stable
environment, everyone knew who was in charge, what side they were on and this was characterized
by business as usual. The scope of terrorism today is far broader than it has ever been. Conflicts
have become internecine, there are ethnic and cultural clashes. International terrorism is a new
phenomenon, so the question is: how do we combat this new phenomenon?
Our ability to agree on an effective collective strategy is due to: self interest of states,
inappropriateness of international organizations on matters of conflicting interest, limited utility of

If all other means of putting an end to an actual aggression have been shown to be impractical or
ineffective, then you may justly wage war. If there are other practical and effective means to
stopping the aggression, they must be used. Alternatives include one to one diplomacy,
international pressure, and economic sanctions; and such tools as blockade, quarantine, covert
actions and small scale raids that do not amount a full scale war effort. It is not necessary to
employ all such means before going to war. It is sufficient if rigorous consideration reveals them
to be impractical or ineffective. This leads to a crucial discussion of two different concepts: pre
emptive versus preventive war. A pre emptive war is legal/moral/just under international law. It is
when there is a clear and present danger of imminent enemy attack and peaceful please have been
rejected. Therefore, you are justified if you attack the aggressor to destroy his ability to harm you.
A preventive war is illegal under international law. It is when you attack because you believe that
the enemy might in the future, attack you. This type of war is usually launched to gain or maintain

The main success of the Bureau lies in the establishment of schools. It spent over five million
dollars for the creation of schools; by 1870, there were over 1000 schools in the south. It helped
to found some historically black colleges and universities such as Howard University. In addition
to school, it also helped with the funding of churches. Unfortunately, by 1971, it had lost most of
its funding and consequently, its staff members. It failed to carry out any long term protection
for freed slaves and did not produce any real measure of equality in the South. One opponent of
the Bureau was President Andrew Johnson. He returned confiscated property to white
Confederates, pardoned hundreds of former Confederate officers, soldiers and government
officials, and tried to limit the amount of land the Bureau could sell by taking the land the Union
had confiscated and gave to the Bureau and giving it to previous white landowners. When
Congress first passed a bill in February, 1866, to extend the Bureau s existence and to give it new
legal powers to sell land, Johnson vetoed the proposed legislation and argued that it interfered with
states rights, gave preference to one group of people over another and would be financially stressful

The Effects Of Diabetic Retinopathy On Mice
For as long as I can remember, I was always fascinated with how things worked. I d take apart
electronics simply to learn about them and reassemble them afterwards. If I would receive a piece
of technology, the first thing I d do is dismantle its hardware and software to learn how it worked
and how I could improvement. However, I noticed that something was missing electronics never
had the close knit relationship with people; you were essentially working with machines; you d
input a command and you d know what the output was each and every time. By the time I had
started high school, I had become increasingly interested in medicinewhen I took my first anatomy
and physiology course. This ultimately led me to pursue various clinical and research
opportunities when I started college. From my first year at Xavier University, my adviser gave
me the opportunity to begin researching the effects of diabetic retinopathy in mice. Being from
Illinois and now going to school in New Orleans, I never knew just how big of an issue diabetes
was in the South. My research in my adviser s lab helped relate what I had learned from my
BCPM courses with what I had observed in my clinical experiences and what I was exposed to
socially. I was able to see that medicine was about finding new avenues to deliver treatment and
improve quality of life. This allowed me to solidify what I had learned in lecture and see its
immediate effects by integrating it into my lab practices. By presenting at

Thomas Benton s Prelude To Death
The work I chose from the Missouri Historical Society is Thomas Benton s Prelude to Death.
Based on Appelbaum published in the Missourian, Benton painted this soon after the United
States entered World War II and it shows the first embarkation of American soldiers for Africa

painting mainly depicts a scene that soldiers are getting ready to go on board for fighting against
the World War II. They all wear on uniforms and most likely have already lined up in an order.
Here is a very interesting part I found from the painting. Most of the light is gathered on the soldier
who leans backward and stares at the spectators, comparing with the dark light

Similarities And Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And...
The movie Apocalypse Now is inspired by Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness. Due to this,
the majority of the film is based upon the book, in terms of plot, theme, characters, and setting. The
differences between the two works arise in the modern interpretation taken by Apocalypse Now, and
the presentation of Heart of Darknessthemes through current events. Both Apocalypse Now(AN)
and Heart of Darkness (HOD) take place within four main settings, with the same overall plot. In
HOD, these settings are Brussels, the Central Station, the steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s
compound. In AN, the initial settings are instead a meeting room with officers and a military base,
before becoming a steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. The initial settings both serve the
same role: to present the main characterwith their job, and to give them the means and
transportation to complete it. Both works have the jungle as the overall and main setting. Though
set in Vietnam and the Congo respectively, both jungles are presented as dark and savage the
entryway into the unknown. In both cases, the jungle is not initially seen as dangerous it is simply
the environment, a means to an end. In AN, it is not until Chef and Willard journey into the jungle
in search of mangoes that this illusion is disrupted. The men are suddenly attacked by a tiger, and
begin a frantic rush to escape back to the boat. After the experience, several of the men promise to

Quality risks normally occur, when there are problems with staffing needs, which increase
workload and don t leave enough time for doing things necessary to maintain quality standards set
by ISO 17025. Quality standards include logs maintaining temperature throughout the lab, such as
in incubators and fridges used for sample testing and supply storage, culture maintenance, and more.
Macroeconomic risks happen when there are economic downturns that occur suddenly, like in areas
where the company has a strong market foot hold, affecting sales growth. Client demand risk for
FSNS happens when the client needs the results for a particular result and they do not obtain it
in a timely manner causing them to not only lose precise time their product is sitting waiting to
be shipped out to consumers, but also losing money in the process, resulting in possible loss of a
client to competition and revenue loss. Industry consolidation risks cause FSNS to have less
bargaining power and price war. Not only that, it could also lead to inflated mark down on the
prices for particular sample tests. The reason for this risk is consolidation of the market and
strategic alliance. Operation risks occur when a facility isn t operated to set standard that fit into
ISO 17025 guidelines. This occurs by a lack of communication by management with techs and lack

Friendship In The Bluest Eye
The Bluest Eye initially depicts female friendship as confined to the proximity of family and
cultural programming. For example, during Claudia and Frieda s afternoon with Maureen, the

similar cultural program as the sisters and that she has been living with them. Similarly, Maureen

Prostitution is common lewdness for hire, the act or practice of a woman who permits a man who

social, cultural, psychological, medical, and other aspects. Although male prostitution is also found,
that involving males exclusively is best considered as part of the general problem of

History. Social attitudes toward prostitution have changed through the ages and go on changing. It

While the Greeks had few principles of sexual morality but a well preserved sense of public
decency, the Romans held much more exalted personal and family ideals but came to exhibit a
general moral depravity of which prostitution was only one form. In this development prostitution
remained shameful per se, for both parties. A system of police registration and taxation was
developed very early. The names of prostitutes could never be removed from the register, they
were required to wear distinctive dress, and they were deprived of full civil rights. Greek influence,
along with the increase of wealth and luxury, assisted in the spiritual decay of the Republic until
even the upper strata of society yielded recruits to prostitution. Corrective measures attempted by
some emperors were unsuccessful, as was a sixth century attempt at a monastic refuge established
by Justinian, who also removed some of the civil disabilities of prostitutes.
Christianity, while condemning the procurer, introduced a charitable attitude toward the prostitute.
There developed an interest in the reformation of prostitutes and the suppression of vice. The
Church established rescue missions, convents for the reception of penitents, and dowries to enable

Their Eyes Were Watching God Coming Of Age Examples
Various novels can be classified as coming of age texts, this means that these are stories about a
protagonist s transition from childhood to adulthood or just growing up even as an adult. These
novels show their growth and change in character over the length of the text. Novels such as
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky,
and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston are all examples of coming of age
novels. In Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God the story is focused on Janie

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv )
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is an immune system disorder that can be contracted
through sexual activity as well as other types of contact. (Healthy Living, pg. 79) If left untreated

the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). (aids.gov) AIDS is an incurable progressive disease

the disquieting facts about AIDS is that the infected person may be asymptomatic for years. If the
infected person does begin to experience signs and symptoms, their initial complaints are usually

treacherous to us for providing harm to our farm animals by giving them high doses of different
chemicals, making them live with birth defects and making statements to deceive the public by
saying it s a harmless process that enhances and multiply the breed of animals when it really
does not. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat
consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in
the US, for the first time was enacted in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by
laws in regards of banning infected and mislabeled products from the interstate commerce.
Observations about those risks were associated with bacteriological meat contamination, and
about how it should be regulated, has changed significantly since then. This article focuses
particularly on changes that have occurred in bacteriological meat contamination standards in
the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the first time identified as a new foodborne
pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked meat. The idea of cloning farm
animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest economic value, for example the
fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a profit off of. However the
process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the highest economic value are
prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical limits; they are destined to a
lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted intrinsic animal welfare
issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research also shows that many
cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable

Symbolism Of The Story Of An Hour
The Story of an Hour Primarily, one has to mention that В«The Story of an HourВ» is a short
story composed by Kate Chopin on April 19, 1894, and initially distributed in Vogue on December
6, 1894 as В«The Dream of an HourВ». The title of the short story alludes to the time slipped by
between the minutes, when the womanLouise Mallard, hears that her spouse is dead and then
suddenly finds that he is alive. The Story of an Hourwas viewed as disputable amid the 1890s in
light of the fact that tells of the woman, who feels that she is free after she is said that her husband
is dead. The short storyВ«The Story of an HourВ» depicts the arrangement of feelings of Louise
Mallard after she becomes aware of the demise of her spouse Brantley, who was thought to have
died in one of the railroad disasters. Thus, one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author uses the word В«heart troubleВ» as the symbol of inconvenience that is both physical
and enthusiastic, an issue both inside her body and with her relationship with Brently. Within the
mentioned hour, when Louise accepts Brently is dead, her heart pulsates emphatically, Louise
feels her new freedom physically. Just when Brently walk in the house, her heart disease reapers.
The incongruity of the closure is that Louise does not die of happiness for her alive husband as
the doctors wrote: В«When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease of the joy
that killsВ», but because her new and desired life was taken from her away (Chopin).
To conclude, one has to emphasize that the short story В«The Story of an HourВ» was extremely
provocative at the times when it appeared as it appeals to the freedom of a young women without
her husband. В«The Story of an HourВ» Thus, it is important to claim that this story reveals the
situation when women did what the society wanted from them; particularly, married to men, whom
they did not

Mark Twain s The Chimney Sweeper
The Chimney Sweeper reflects the hope that God can give to people even when they are
miserable and hopeless. The kid in the poem is sold at a very young age and he is devastated with
the things he is forced to do, but his perspective changes once he sees his future.
At the beginning of the poem, the narrator feels anger and sorrow since he is forced to clean
chimneys instead of being able to run and play like a normal kid would usually do, but as the
poem continues to develop, there s a shift present. This shift happens when the kid has a dream
about a thousand of chimney sweepers like him being happy and having fun in the clouds. During
the dream there s symbolism of death portrayed by the coffins. The angel goes to the coffins
with a magical key and sets them free. This is also a symbol of heaven because the kids are
floating in the clouds in a fantasy world. The shift in this story is very powerful because it gives
the kid a purpose for living his miserable life and changes his attitude and perspective towards it. ...

The rhyme scheme in the poem helps the audience understand with more simplicity what the
author is trying to convey. Both rhyme schemes are very easy to identify since they vary
between two very common patterns which are: AABB and ABAB. The author makes it very
simple since his biggest goal is to convey the message that the chimney sweepers suffered back
in those days. Another similarity between the poems, is the use of figurative language. in The
Chimney Sweeper, the author uses a simile in order to describe the physical appearance of Tom.
his head that curl d like a lamb s back. with the imagery of the poem. in addition to that, in the
other poem the author uses a metaphor to symbolize death. They clothed me in the clothes of
death. With this line we can visualizes a young kid being wrapped around with black clothes since
the color black usually symbolizes

Naturalism by Garland
Naturalism by Garland Naturalism is a literary movement that encapsulates the struggles of the
common population. Hamlin Garland presents an excellent example of Naturalist literature in his
short story Under the Lion s Paw , published in 1889. In this short story, many of Dr. Stephen
doCarmo s characteristics of Naturalismare visible. Dr. doCarmo describes three broad
characteristics of Naturalism: individuals are subjected to larger uncontainable forces, political
undertones are prevalent within the work, and the subject matter of the work appeals to the middle
class. Under the Lion s Paw possesses all three of these characteristics and radiates naturalism. Dr.
doCarmo s first and most important characteristic of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Butler represents capitalistic society taking advantage of the common people: Mr. Haskins
and his family. After Mr. Haskins had worked towards purchasing the farm from Mr. Butler, he is
met with resistance in the form of an unexpected price increase, to which he rebuts, But you ve
done nothing to make it so. You hain t added a cent. I put it all there myself, expectin to buy
(Garland 761). Garland, as if to emphasize the element of naturalism, writes, Butler laughed and has
Butler respond to Mr. Haskins, The law will sing another tune (Garland 761). Throughout this story
the reader is encouraged to pull for the underdog. Mr. Haskins and his family represent a family met
with hardship, an underdog, potentially pulling themselves up from the bottom and ascending
towards success. This subject matter would be unknown to a middle class, well to do family, and as
Dr. doCarmo explains: Naturalist works often deal with subjects most comfortable middle class
readers wouldn t consider part of their ordinary lives (doCarmo). Most middle class readers have
never faced losing everything such as livelihood, money, and home. This automatically captivates
them in the beginning of the story. Garland holds the attention of the middle class by reminding the
reader of this unknown throughout the story: It was the memory of this homelessness, and the fear
of its coming again, that spurred Timothy Haskins and Nettie, his wife, to such ferocious labor

Bob Dylan Similes
Among the American folk music, the name Bob Dylan is murmured with hushed respect ( Getting
To Dylan 1986 documentary ). Bob Dylan, originally named Robert Allen Zimmerman was born
on May 24, 1941. At the age of eighteen, Bob Dylan attended the University of Minnesota, where
he sought interest in music. Influenced by the blues, country, and rock and roll, he began playing
music as a teenager... ( Bob Dylan). Single mindedly, Bob Dylan coached himself to learn how to
play multiple instruments such as the guitar, harmonica, and piano, which helped lead to a plentiful
amount of awards and achievements. Chronologically, Bob Dylan was announced in the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, was granted a Grammy for lifetime achievements in 1991 and... Show

The usage of similes and alliteration in the lyrics Like a Rolling Stone, helps reflect the poetry in his
work. The first and most vivid poetic device used throughout one of Bob Dylan s top ten hits
Like a Rolling Stone are similes. The best example of a simile in his lyrics appears in line
sixteen through eighteen. With no direction home / A complete unknown / Just like a rolling
stone? (Dylan 16 18). With Bob Dylan stating this negative comparison of a hopeless woman to
a stone rolling down a hill, going out of control, supports his listeners with the thought of a
lonely woman with no direction home. So this phrase, a rolling stone, that meant a lack of
material possessions, a lack of home, a lack of belonging for those who first sang it, became a
symbol of liberation for the rock generation (Bowie). These material ties weakened our vision
and the ability to be able to see around us. Singing this phrase and ending it with a question
allowed Bob Dylan to create the sense of freedom and the achievement of clearing his listeners
visions to help them see through the illusions around them. The other poetic device that
contributed to the admirable background of the lyrics in Like a Rolling Stone is the usage of
alliteration. The first example of the occurrence with the same sound and letters is in lines one
to three, Once upon a time you dressed so fine / You threw the bums a dime in your prime,
/ Didn t you? (Dylan 1 3). With the repetition of ime and ine it presents us with a childlike feel
towards the song. In addition to the childish feeling, it seems as if the woman approaches life in a
much more simplistic way. The short line length, the fairy tale opening, the simple words and
images, the straightforward aaaa repeating rhyme all these elements work together to create the
feeling of a children s song, of a child s world (Bowie). The woman described in Bob Dylan s lyrics
assumes that

Food Intake 3 Days
During my three day food intake I discovered that I only consumed 88 grams of protein. In these
three meals I spent almost 40 dollars and I was short almost 100 grams of protein required for
my weight. Four slices of pizza, and two double cheeseburgers produced the most protein.
Oatmeal, beer, and coffee only counted for less than 10 grams. All six items consumed over the 3
day stretch accounted for carbohydrates. The items ranged from 10g to 100g of carbs. The only
item with enough lipids was the McDonald s oatmeal. The rest of the meals were relatively low. I
need to make better planning to include more lipids into my health plan.

Difference Between Good And Evil In Cormac Mccarthy s The...
Faith is a hard thing to master, and sometimes obtaining it is even harder. Many of the character

come in contact with we are always pose with that one question, are you one of the good guys? .
For There to be a good guy there has to be a bad guy . To separate the good guys from everyone

In Cormac McCarthy novel, The Road, McCarthy uses Character flashbacks to show the

The Lack Of Promotion For College Students Essay
Consequence
Due to the lack of promotion to college students (especially international students), Athens Farmers
Market (AFM) seems to ignore a large potential market of students. This problem not only
indicates a potential market that AFM missed and ignored, it also brings other possible
consequences if AFM keeps doing so. For example, in most cases, consumers tend to purchase at
the same grocery store, which can be categorized as brand loyalty. However, college students in
Athens are more likely to purchase at AFM s competitors (Walmart, Kroger) due to AFM s fewer
opening hours and distance. But Deighton et al. (1994) indicates that advertising can have effective
influences on brand switching, which would apply to AFM as students start to purchase products at
AFM instead of Walmart repeatedly. Further, Walmart (or Kroger) as one of the largest
supermarkets in the retail industry can compete and restrict the customer base of AFM. Thus,
advertising to students, a major group of potential consumers in Athens, would help AFM s
development in several aspects including customer base, reputation, and profitability.
Third Criteria: Advertising Effectiveness
Cost and convenience are indeed important to comparison and evaluation different methods used
for AFM s advertisements to student. But effectiveness (the effect measured or expected from
different advertising methods used) can also be crucial to decision making on advertising strategies
of AFM. Based on the potential

  • 2. The Viola Research Paper Over past millennia s, when music was first coming to be recognized, there were many different types of instruments. Over many years leading up to today, types of instruments were created and perfected, for the most part. The different instruments created over time were the woodwind instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, keyboard instruments, and one of those was the percussion instruments. The string instruments cover a multitude of instruments, there are orchestral types and even some that are plucked. Violins, viola, cello, double bass, harps, guitars, lute, and even ukuleles are just a few of the many other stringed instruments there are. The definition of a stringed instrument is a musical instrumentwhose tone is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The double bass is set up behind the cello, and viola section, on the right side of the stage. Even though the instrument is used in the string sections, it is not 100%, a member of the violin family, with the violin, viola, and cello. The bow is shorter and thicker than the cello bow. It uses a horsehair bow, and there are two types of bows for this instrument, the French bow, and the German bow. The French bow is used overhand, the back of the hand facing the listener, and the German bow is used underarm, the thumb facing upward. The French bow is similar to the cello, but shorter and thicker, and the German bow is slimmer, with thinner horsehair. The double bass is the only modern bowed string instrument that is tuned in fourths (like a viol), rather than fifths. The players are either standing or sitting, on a long legged stool, in order to play the instrument. The double bass is similar with the violin, viola, and cello in that it was created around the 15th 16th century, off of the outline of the viol. The double bass is a hybrid in the viol family, it has violin specifications and some attributes that are not related to the viol. This instrument is just one of the many instruments used in the string section of an orchestra, in modern day life of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Defense Of Self Defense Self Defense: The self defense claim has been around for many years and has been categorized in the courts as an excuse or justification. One of the rarely considered premises of the excuse /justification debate is that defenses are naturally unified. (Nourse V F, 2001). Depending on the individual cases self defense might turn out to be both an excuse and a justification. If this is accurate then the debate on excuses and justifications does not solve the problem of the theory of necessity or imminence. Self defense is when a defendant states that he or she was confronted by a serious threat of bodily harm or even death, this threat appears to be imminent, and therefore the only action for the defendant at that moment was both necessary and proportionate. There are two factors that do not qualify under the defense of self defense which are the defendant turned out to be the aggressor or if the defendant failed to retreat from the threat. Self defense rules that for a defendants actions to be justified there needed to be an imminent threat. For many years there has been a disagreement in whether the law has become subjective or that the instructions given to the jurors are objective. Many scholars believe that one problem involving imminent is there being too much time between the threat and the actual killing. The self defense claim is commonly used for victims of battered women. Many facts for women claiming battered women syndrome do not add up to self defense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Brooklyn Train Station Research Paper This field research project is on the accessibility of Brooklyn train stations for non ambulatory individuals. I frequently ride the subways to travel to Manhattan and the stations I have come across in the past such as 42nd street Time Square, 34th street Herald Square, and 14th street Union Square all appeared to be accessible to disabled people who use wheelchairs. I wanted to explore four train stationin Brooklyn both busy and non busy stations to see how accessible they are. The first Brooklyn train station that I visited was the Broadway Junction train station. This station is located on Fulton Street and Vansiderdan Avenue, the border of East New York. This station serves the A,C,J, L, and Z trains. Broadway Junction station is one of the busiest stations in Brooklyn. I arrived to this station via busduring morning rush hour. Immediately I noticed one step in order to get into the station. As in all stations there was metro card machines and tollbooth clerk. There was also a gate that the clerk buzzed if someone needed to pass. There were two stairwells, Manhattan bound and Coney Island bound. There was no elevator in sight. In fact I witnessed a mother carrying a stroller with a child up the stairs. Once I was on the platform, I walked to the second exit/entrance and noticed another long stairwell to get out of the ... But among the three religions that are close to being tied for fourth place in the United States, almost everyone has heard of Buddhism and Hinduism. If you mention Wicca to the average American, you will probably receive a blank stare. A major reason for this is that many Wiccans tend to keep their religionsecret; they fear physical and economic attack.(http://www.religioustolerance.org/wic_prac.htm) So with that being said, what exactly is wicca and why is it important? • 7. Dbq What Drove The Sugar Trade DBQ Essay What Drove the Sugar Trade? Beginning in the late 1600s and continuing through the 1700s the demand for sugar became incredibly high due to its addictive qualities. To supply the consumers with sugar they were craving, wealthy Europeans established sugar plantations throughout the Caribbean and built a thriving slave industry, so their need for cheap labor could be satisfied. Sugar consumption increased from 4.6lbs to 16.2lbs per capita annually from 1700 to 1770 due to the increasing addiction of the consumers. Since the demand was so high, the manufacturers were faced with maintaining a high crop yield, but luckily the Caribbean islands provided an ideal location for growing cane sugar. Due to the efforts to colonize the Caribbean islands, by 1750 they were almost all owned by Spain, France, or England, meaning these countries now had access to and control over this area that they did not previously; they took advantage of this newfound power (Doc 1). Sugar requires a specific climate to grow plentifully (i.e. 68В° 90В°F) and this was something the Caribbean islands provided the Europeans with; if European countries had not had taken control in the Caribbean islands the sugar industry would not have survived (Doc 2). At this time, the Caribbean islands were the only location that the Europeans had access to that provided the correct climate. The landscape was ideal and led to a high crop yield and without it the consumers would be at a loss (Doc 8). Through the 1700s and into the 1800s, in Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Domingue, and Cuba, sugar production rates escalated, but this vast increase was made possible only by the natural conditions of the Caribbean islands (Doc 10). • 8. The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Rhetorical Analysis In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, the author Le Guin establishes the idea that one can not enjoy happiness that results from the immoral, discriminatory victimization of someone else. Upon first look, the city of Omelas seems like a fairy tale utopia where everyone is happy, yet underneath this veil of splendor, there is a child that is neglected and abused to the point of where some people are so sickened that they must leave Omelas. All of Omelas s glamour and joy depends solely on the suffering of this child, and if the child were to be rescued, all goodness in Omelas would be destroyed. The people of Omelas know that theirs is no vapid irresponsible happiness. They know that they, like the child, are not free (47). The passage reveals that the people fully understand the terms of the child s misery.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, their happiness is not even true happiness because it is constantly shadowed by the knowledge of the child s suffering, and yet paradoxically, they feel morally obligated to be happy for the sake of the child. In contrast, there are also people who are so disturbed by this dark secret of the child that they leave Omelas...toward [a] place...that [possibly] does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going (47). To leave Omelas for the unknown would need considerable courage, but they know that they will never be truly happy staying in Omelas. Just like how the people of Omelas know that the joy built upon successful slaughter is not the right kind of joy, those who leave understand that happiness at the expense of a scapegoat, such as the child, is also not the right kind of joy ... Without the supporting family, it will be likely that you won t or can t achieve the goals. Many things can help/hinder your progress in achieving these goals such as financial status, social class, levels of education, or even familytradition. Though these things do affect the progress towards these goals, I know that it is still possible to achieve these goals. Race and certain neighborhoods did hinder a lot of people from achieving success, but my mom grew up in a very affluent neighborhood where she saw very successful people which led her to believe that success was easy to obtain. Growing up, my mom had a mom and a dad present in her household, that each had a job, were very supportive and only wanted success for their daughter. At that time, the neighborhood they were in was average which allowed her to see how to be successful and make her strive to be successful. Her parents wouldn t accept anything less than 110% and expected her to be successful. Living in a nicer neighborhood and having a supportive family made it easier for her to continue striving for success. My mom s family was middle class and was ineligible for many of the financial assistance programs, so all of the schooling or programs she took part in she had to work to put herself through. Being with a successful family, this made her journey to becoming successful much easier financially. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Struggle in Crime and Punishment Essay The Struggle in Crime and Punishment Reading this book makes you ill because from the beginning to the end you watch as psychological forces eat away at the thoughts and actions of their victim causing him to finally confess to the hideous crime he has committed. The story is basically the struggle between Raskolnikov s Napoleon Гјbermensch theory and his conscience which make him confess to his crime. Dostoevsky s genius is in describing how Raskolnikov struggles in his thoughts and actions. It s uncanny how Profiry manages to keep Raskolnikov hovering around him until he finally confesses it s also uncanny to realize how natural it is for Raskolnikov to come under Porfiry s psychological spell. This leads to a central question of the book: are laws just abitrary human constructs or are there psychological laws which govern our behavior in societies. Raskolnikov believes (as he wrote in his article) that people can rise above human laws as Napoleon did, but Profiry (and Dostoevsky) believe otherwise: What is running away? it s merely formal; the point isn t that he won t run away because he has nowhere to run to, but that psychologically he won t escape, he, he! • 12. The Scope Of Computerized Threat Rootkits Essay In the scope computerized threat rootkits are not given the credit they deserve. They tend to be minimized while they proved to be a much serious danger. Dr Mark Ciampa had categorized rootkits under the concealment subgroup of malware, which avoiding detection is their primary characteristic. He had briefly defined rootkits as set software tools used to hide the actions of other types of software by changing the operating system to force it to ignore their malicious files and activities. Rootkits also hide or remove all traces of evidence that may reveal the malware, he said. His definition is not totally accurate even though he pin pointed the main purpose for what rootkits are used for, which is concealment. Contrary to the popular believe rootkits are not malware and not necessarily malicious. Greg Hoglund and James Butler in the Subverting Windows Kernel Rootkits book identified rootkits as a computingtechnology that can be used for evil or goods purposes. For the sake of this paper, the attention given to rootkits will be focusing on understanding what a rootkitis and how it works, the different type of rootkits and their implementations, detection measure to not get infected and preventive measure to avoid infection. Before, delving into the subject it s important to highlight that rootkits can be whitehat or blackhat. A black hat use of rootkits is clearly attributed for a malicious agenda. On the other hand, on the higher level conveyor, the bins are gotten to two locations in front of the person picking. The person picking picks as per the instructions of a system of pick to light. Beside every bin is a display showing the number of items which are to be picked from the upper bins. In the same way, lower bins also have a display showing the items to be removed. Air Canada Five Forces Analysis Porter s Five Forces is a simple but powerful tool that consist of 5 different forces to understand the competitiveness of your business environment, and for identifying your strategy s potential profitability. The five forces are degree of rivalry, threat of entry, threat of substitutions, buyer power, and supplier power. Each force is helpful in their own way to get to know your rivals a lot better and get to know what can happen in your market. Air Canada Force #1 Degree of Rivalry The number of rivals that Air Canada would have would depend on the location of the airports. The major competitors for Air Canada are American Airlines Group, Delta Air Lines , WestJet Airlines, and Porter Airlines. The quality of these other airlines depends on each of their planes, some of Delta Air Lines planes are a lot bigger so they can offer a lot more than Air Canada. Air Canada offers a lot of services as they have a lot of flights that fly from city to city in Canada unlike Delta or American air lines. Air Canada competes a lot with WestJet and Porter airlines in Canada. Rivalry is more intense at bigger airports around Canada. For example, Charlottetown only has three different airlines that currently fly here every week. Where in Toronto they experience a lot more air traffic so more airlines can offer better deals to fly somewhere from Toronto to anywhere in the world where Charlottetown. Analysis Of The Book Why America Slept By Gerald Posner Daniela Reynoso October 17, 2014 Capron Online CRJ 115 05In the book, Why America Slept: The Failure to Prevent 9/11, by Gerald Posner he argues that the act of terrorism that occurred on September 11, 2001 could have and should have been prevented. He presented a powerful case of how stupidity and misdirected priorities made America an easy aim for terrorists. Gerald Posner, the author of the book was a former Wall Street Lawyer, award winning investigative journalist and bestselling author. Posner purposefully wrote this book to demonstrate all the clues that were given out prior to the attack and inform us on previously undisclosed information after a thorough 18 month investigation. Posner s goal was to discover what the CIA, FBI, and others in the Government were doing behind the scenes for at least a decade leading up to 9/11. The intended audience for this book is anyone who is willing to open their eyes on the true occurrences that happened on 9/11. The title of the piece is related directly to the book and the subject matter of it. America slept on all the clues that they received that there would be a terrorist attack and the book demonstrated how exactly they failed to prevent the acts that occurred on 9 /11. Why America Slept is such a staggering book and Posner successfully demonstrates to the audience how 9/11 could have been prevented through his use of examples and facts. In this powerful and persuasive book, Gerald Posner reveals after an eighteen month ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Nozick s Notion Of Historical Entitlement Nozick asserts that the state should not be able to prohibit capitalist transfers between consenting adults. In this paper I will argue that this claim is true in all circumstances regardless of the resulting inequality. I will begin my analysis by explaining why it is that Nozick makes this claim. This explanation will focus on articulating his detailed description of just acquisition and transfer of holdings. I will then move on to describe how Nozick s conclusion regarding just transfers results in him forbidding stateintervention restricting capitalist acts. The focus here will be on detailing how Nozick s notion of historical entitlement combats the competing theories of justicein holdings, namely theories composed of end state principles and patterned principles. Finally, I will address common concerns and anticipate rebuttals to Nozick s claim and show how they are unsuccessful in their attempts. Nozick believes that a state should not prohibit consensual transfers between fit individuals due in part to the sacrifice of liberty that it entails. Nozick puts forth a theory of entitlement that does not include such a sacrifice. It consists of two main components: the principle of justice in acquisition and the principle of justice in transfer. The two principles together bring about a state of justice in holdings. Justice in transfer is concerned with answering the question of how a person may rightfully transfer a holdingto another individual as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shar Pei in High School Musical or Regina George from Mean Girls are a few examples of the 2 D image of the same stereotype but with the classic spin of the Blonde bitch . This doesn t really change the character, only makes the blonde barbie more dislikable. The character still is swimming in the color pink, with less than average intelligence and of course has to be filthy rich. Elle Woods, the main character of legally blonde was the epitome of Hollywood s take on the blonde trait. What makes this movie out of all the others at the top of the most insulting is its presentation. It is presented as if the makers of Legally Blonde are defending the gene and thus even a blonde can become a lawyer or even go to Harvard . Of course the main reason Elle does apply to go to Harvard is only to get back with her boyfriend which makes this less of an honorable action. The movie plays light heartedly on the theme that blondes aren t taken seriously only to add on to the issue. In an article written about blonde jokes in the media, they explore the long life of the blond stereotype. The prototypes appearing in many comic texts the dumb blonde, the irritating wife and the awful mother in law are always defined by an exaggeration of a traditional feminine stereotype. Arend Lijphart s strategy of the consensus model is how majoritarian a government is. The consensus model aims to share out power so that it is not all down to the one governing party. The consensus model is very important when it comes to Scotlandas it can be argued that is only effective for highly divided societies. Client demand risk for FSNS happens when the client needs the results for a particular result and they do not obtain it in a timely manner causing them to not only lose precise time their product is sitting waiting to be shipped out to consumers, but also losing money in the process, resulting in possible loss of a client to competition and revenue loss. Industry consolidation risks cause FSNS to have less bargaining power and price war. Not only that, it could also lead to inflated mark down on the prices for particular sample tests. The reason for this risk is consolidation of the market and strategic alliance. Operation risks occur when a facility isn t operated to set standard that fit into ISO 17025 guidelines. For example, during Claudia and Frieda s afternoon with Maureen, the sister s defend Pecola from Maureen s ridicule. Similarly, Maureen is of a middleclass background and of no connection to Claudia and Frieda s family, so she is resented both prior and after their time with Maureen. Prostitution is common lewdness for hire, the act or practice of a woman who permits a man who will pay her price to have sexual intercourse with her. It is a universal phenomenon with moral, social, cultural, psychological, medical, and other aspects. Although male prostitution is also found, that involving males exclusively is best considered as part of the general problem of HOMOSEXUALITY. History. While the Greeks had few principles of sexual morality but a well preserved sense of public decency, the Romans held much more exalted personal and family ideals but came to exhibit a general moral depravity of which prostitution was only one form. In this development prostitution remained shameful per se, for both parties. A system of police registration and taxation was developed very early. The names of prostitutes could never be removed from the register, they were required to wear distinctive dress, and they were deprived of full civil rights. Greek influence, along with the increase of wealth and luxury, assisted in the spiritual decay of the Republic until even the upper strata of society yielded recruits to prostitution. Corrective measures attempted by some emperors were unsuccessful, as was a sixth century attempt at a monastic refuge established by Justinian, who also removed some of the civil disabilities of prostitutes. Christianity, while condemning the procurer, introduced a charitable attitude toward the prostitute. There developed an interest in the reformation of prostitutes and the suppression of vice. The Church established rescue missions, convents for the reception of penitents, and dowries to enable prostitutes to marry. Innocent III commended the marrying of a prostitute. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted intrinsic animal welfare issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Symbolism Of The Story Of An Hour The Story of an Hour Primarily, one has to mention that В«The Story of an HourВ» is a short story composed by Kate Chopin on April 19, 1894, and initially distributed in Vogue on December 6, 1894 as В«The Dream of an HourВ». The title of the short story alludes to the time slipped by between the minutes, when the womanLouise Mallard, hears that her spouse is dead and then suddenly finds that he is alive. The Story of an Hourwas viewed as disputable amid the 1890s in light of the fact that tells of the woman, who feels that she is free after she is said that her husband is dead. The short storyВ«The Story of an HourВ» depicts the arrangement of feelings of Louise Mallard after she becomes aware of the demise of her spouse Brantley, who was thought to have died in one of the railroad disasters. Just when Brently walk in the house, her heart disease reapers. The incongruity of the closure is that Louise does not die of happiness for her alive husband as the doctors wrote: В«When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease of the joy that killsВ», but because her new and desired life was taken from her away (Chopin). To conclude, one has to emphasize that the short story В«The Story of an HourВ» was extremely provocative at the times when it appeared as it appeals to the freedom of a young women without her husband. The kid in the poem is sold at a very young age and he is devastated with the things he is forced to do, but his perspective changes once he sees his future. At the beginning of the poem, the narrator feels anger and sorrow since he is forced to clean chimneys instead of being able to run and play like a normal kid would usually do, but as the poem continues to develop, there s a shift present. This shift happens when the kid has a dream about a thousand of chimney sweepers like him being happy and having fun in the clouds. During the dream there s symbolism of death portrayed by the coffins. The angel goes to the coffins with a magical key and sets them free. This is also a symbol of heaven because the kids are floating in the clouds in a fantasy world. The shift in this story is very powerful because it gives the kid a purpose for living his miserable life and changes his attitude and perspective towards it. ... You hain t added a cent. I put it all there myself, expectin to buy (Garland 761). Garland, as if to emphasize the element of naturalism, writes, Butler laughed and has Butler respond to Mr. Haskins, The law will sing another tune (Garland 761). Throughout this story the reader is encouraged to pull for the underdog. Mr. Haskins and his family represent a family met with hardship, an underdog, potentially pulling themselves up from the bottom and ascending towards success. This subject matter would be unknown to a middle class, well to do family, and as Dr. doCarmo explains: Naturalist works often deal with subjects most comfortable middle class readers wouldn t consider part of their ordinary lives (doCarmo). Most middle class readers have never faced losing everything such as livelihood, money, and home. This automatically captivates them in the beginning of the story. The usage of similes and alliteration in the lyrics Like a Rolling Stone, helps reflect the poetry in his work. The first and most vivid poetic device used throughout one of Bob Dylan s top ten hits Like a Rolling Stone are similes. The best example of a simile in his lyrics appears in line sixteen through eighteen. With no direction home / A complete unknown / Just like a rolling stone? (Dylan 16 18). With Bob Dylan stating this negative comparison of a hopeless woman to a stone rolling down a hill, going out of control, supports his listeners with the thought of a lonely woman with no direction home. So this phrase, a rolling stone, that meant a lack of material possessions, a lack of home, a lack of belonging for those who first sang it, became a symbol of liberation for the rock generation (Bowie). These material ties weakened our vision and the ability to be able to see around us. Singing this phrase and ending it with a question allowed Bob Dylan to create the sense of freedom and the achievement of clearing his listeners visions to help them see through the illusions around them. The other poetic device that contributed to the admirable background of the lyrics in Like a Rolling Stone is the usage of alliteration. The first example of the occurrence with the same sound and letters is in lines one to three, Once upon a time you dressed so fine / You threw the bums a dime in your prime, / Didn t you? (Dylan 1 3). With the repetition of ime and ine it presents us with a childlike feel towards the song. In addition to the childish feeling, it seems as if the woman approaches life in a much more simplistic way. The short line length, the fairy tale opening, the simple words and images, the straightforward aaaa repeating rhyme all these elements work together to create the feeling of a children s song, of a child s world (Bowie). • 51. The Lack Of Promotion For College Students Essay Consequence Due to the lack of promotion to college students (especially international students), Athens Farmers Market (AFM) seems to ignore a large potential market of students. This problem not only indicates a potential market that AFM missed and ignored, it also brings other possible consequences if AFM keeps doing so. For example, in most cases, consumers tend to purchase at the same grocery store, which can be categorized as brand loyalty. However, college students in Athens are more likely to purchase at AFM s competitors (Walmart, Kroger) due to AFM s fewer opening hours and distance. But Deighton et al. (1994) indicates that advertising can have effective influences on brand switching, which would apply to AFM as students start to purchase products at AFM instead of Walmart repeatedly. Further, Walmart (or Kroger) as one of the largest supermarkets in the retail industry can compete and restrict the customer base of AFM. Thus, advertising to students, a major group of potential consumers in Athens, would help AFM s development in several aspects including customer base, reputation, and profitability. Third Criteria: Advertising Effectiveness Cost and convenience are indeed important to comparison and evaluation different methods used for AFM s advertisements to student. But effectiveness (the effect measured or expected from different advertising methods used) can also be crucial to decision making on advertising strategies of AFM. Based on the potential ...
