has also impacted me. Awhile back I came across a video series that Mennonite
Central Committee has on YouTube of him speaking at the youth convention in
Kansas City. I was curious to see how soldiers dealt with their faith and these videos

Whipped, beaten and bloodied until there was no more energy left to give. African
American slaves in the early American world had to endure and struggle through
some of the most gruesome punishments and on occasion, it was for no reason at
all. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass displays some
occasions where he, even as a young boy, was subjected to some of these terrible
events. Douglass plays on the pathos of his readers right from the beginning by
tugging at our emotions with the story of his Aunt Hester. Does Douglass portray
his violence to be over the top? Some might say yes, but even if it s over the top, it
is because it s accurate. Some punishments that the slaves endured were whipping,

tradition to become a women. During the four day she has to do stuff like, dance for
ten hours straight. Then, in Martin s rite of passagehis grandpa comes to give him the
medicine bag. During this, Grandpa is dying so he has to give Martin the medicine

I have noticed students have a short concentration span (of approximately 4 or 5
minutes) when doing academic activities. During math exercises, ELLs have also
showed that it can be particularly difficult to solve basic addition, subtraction and
multiplication when compared to the other students in class.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the factors that shape my students attitudes
towards literacy and numeracy. I am especially interested in investigating home
school connections to explore the influence of family and community literacy
practices on my students academic development. Taking these factors into
consideration, I want to see how an intervention based on the integration of home
based skills and activities in the classroom affects the students motivation when doing
academic activities. A specific intervention that can be applied includes having ELL
students assist in the designing of classroom activities based on their interests.

Background Information: The experiment deals with cold packs and hot packs and it
demonstrates how they work. Cold packs and hot packs are used to help heal injuries
mainly. Cold packs help heal sprained ankles, since they remove heat from the
inflicted area and make the blood vessels tighten, which lowers the inflammation and
pain. Cold packs usually include water, ammonium nitrate or some other salt and
fertilizer. The water is kept separate in an inner container separate from the
ammonium nitrate until the cold pack is needed. When the cold pack is needed,
the cold pack is squeezed, which makes the inner container of water open and the
ammonium nitrate to mix. The ammonium nitrate dissolves in the water and
creates the cold pack. The cold pack is used to decrease the effect of increased
blood flow to an area, while a hot pack is used to increase blood flow to an area,
such as an area with deep muscle pain. The hot pack adds heat the affected area and
makes the blood vessels dilate. Hot packs usually contain the same stuff as the cold
pack does, but instead of ammonium nitrate, they contain calcium chloride.
Therefore, when a hot pack is needed the pad is squeezed and the water and the
