Stereotypes In Beowulf
A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself is a quote, by
Joseph Campbell that describes an epic hero. One story about an epic hero that everyone can learn
from is the story of Beowulf. Beowulf is an old English poem which was translated by Burton
Raffel. The story plot is about a man named Beowulf, whom with his men fight against evil and
never lose. There are many lessons that are learned though out this story. Every high school student
should read Beowulf because it teaches students about the stereotype of an epic hero, shows how
language has changed and will teach them to think of others first. The first reason that Beowulf
should be read by all students is because it teaches the character traits... Show more content on

It is sad to say, but many people have started putting and thinking of themselves first. By reading
Beowulf, people will realize the importance of putting others before oneself. Also, when the
character, Beowulf, first arrives with his men to defeat Grendel which is the monster he tells the
man who stops them who his father and lord are and what his goal is before he even says his
name. This shows that he just wants to help out of good will, not to just get his name around. This
caused others to respect him more. So if students reading this piece of literature learn why it is
important though the story of Beowulf actions, then maybe they will start to do that as well.
Beowulf is one poem that everyone should read, it helps students understand the importance of an
epic hero, different ways of language and putting others first. Beowulf can give information that
students can use in their daily lives. This poem teaches the basics on so many good lessons.
Reading different types of stories like Beowulf will increase students knowledge so much more
than before they read the adventure stories. It has been proven by many others that reading will
increase knowledge, improve memory and cause people to have better writing

Identifying Strategies to Improve African American College...
Minorities are a growing segment of the population. However, this group continues to be
underrepresented in the area of post secondary education. Obtaining an advanced degree remains a
likely predictor of future career success. The problem facing the minority student is that barriers
persist which continue to hinder enrollment, retention, and graduation rates in institutions of higher
education. These barriers must be identified and examined and solutions offered if college
completion rates are to be increased for this population. While overall college enrollment and
graduation rates have risen for all minority groups, there continues to be concerns for this segment
of the population, particularly for African Americanstudents. Even... Show more content on

The U.S. Department of Education s Digest of Education Statistics (2010) compiles data on
educational trends and statistics in the United States. According to the digest, in 2009 African
Americans earned about 10 percent of all bachelor degrees awarded. Furthermore, about 20 percent
of African Americans currently hold a college degree. When compared to the same rates for the
white non hispanic population, African Americans are largely lagging behind. The challenges that
African Americans are facing must be met by post secondary institutions if this group is going to
continue on the path of economic and career prosperity. This need is discussed in the report
Minorities in Higher Education: Although greater access to higher education for students of color
is an absolute imperative, it is only part of the equation. Ensuring their academic success and
readiness to thrive in an interconnected world remains the ultimate goal. In a global economy,
providing greater access to post secondary education to individuals from all racial and ethnic
backgrounds remains one of the most important challenges facing our nation. Demographic changes
have increased the proportions of people of color in the United States, and our academic population
(Ryu, 2009, p. i). The relationship between ethnicity and retention in post secondary education has
been widely discussed in the literature. The

The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur
Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam
have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory,
author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes
his version as a script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative,
Gilliam writes his movie as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of
King Arthur, and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend.
While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grailboth share a common plot, the
works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries to appease changes
each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who
is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry
Gilliamis trying to entertain a more modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical
movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to
a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written,
people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of tyrannical
kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard III who was reigning
just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biodegradable Plastic
Introduction Since plastic first manufacture since 1960s , plastic bags had become one of the
main essential product in daily life until today. Plastic had become the benchmark for modern
life as they provide durability, strength, flexibility light weight with low cost. They have been
used in everywhere, from bags for groceries to bones holder for surgery. But plastic have become
the most concern for environmentalist as having a long decompose life. Although recycle is an
effective way to reduce the amount of plastic, but researcher found only 5% of plastic bags
produced in US alone is being recycled. (Sivan, 2011). {Sivan, A. New Perspectives in Plastic
Biodegradation. Curr. Opin. Biotechnol. 2011, 22, 422 426. } The best way to prevent plastic to
pollute the nature is to produce the biodegradable plastic. There are many ways to produce a
biodegradable plastic, but here we will focus on producing biodegradable plastic with synthesis of

While the Federal Government enacted the Privacy Act in order to create these twelve conditions
for the Agency to follow, it also enacted consequences for violations of the Act. In an article
entitled Can an Agency be Punished for Improperly Contacting a Physician?, Cyberfeds Legal
Editor Rebecca E. Lawrence, Esq. expresses that it is a violation of the claimant s privacy rights to
contact his physician without first attempting to obtain the desired information from the claimant.
Only if the claimant fails to cooperate with the agency can the agency go directly to the physician
. (Lawrence, 2010). As such, the rule of engagement for an Agency seeking medical documentation
is the first go through the employee themselves to provide the requested medical documentation,
and should such failure to cooperate be evident, then the Agency can request the documentation
directly. Ms. Lawrence also discusses the consequences for a Privacy Act violation as she states
that monetary awards: will either be for the actual money the claimant lost because of the agency
s violation or $1,000 per violation, whichever is greater . (Lawrence, 2010). However, it should be
noted that while a monetary consequence for a Privacy Act violation may be the recourse for

The ID, Ego and Superego in Lord of the Flies
The exemplification of Freud s id, superego, and ego:
A look at Jack, Piggy, Simon and Ralph within The Lord of the Flies
Freud primarily subscribed to the idea that there are two energies that drive human behavior. These
two energies are sex the pleasure principle and aggression. The human mind is comprised of the
conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Within the realms of the mind, the human personality is
controlled by the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is driven by the pleasure principle. The
superego is the instinctual moral good, which aims to please the ego ideal, or the magnified moral
values. The ego interacts with both the id and the superego and aims to please both components
(Connors). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon is the one boy who never participates in destructive behaviors and always contributes to
the well being of the boys. He continues to work even after everyone stops, gives Piggy food
when no one else will, and speaks his mind about the beast. He is also the only one to realize that
the true beast is inside the boys. Simon s moral compass, much like the superego, allows him to
see the evil of mankind. Simon is whole heartedly good. The superego attempts to lead a person
to the morally right pathway, much like Simon aims to show Ralph how he can do what s best
for the tribe. The primitive nature of the others overpowers Simon s internal good nature. Even
after his death, Simon s moral nature lives on through the boys similar to how the superego can
continue to shine after a person follows the desires of the id. Ralph s character embodies the
ego. The ego is the rational aspect of the mind. Ralph s rationality is exhibited in his role as
leader. He focuses on the idea of being rescued and organizes the fires as a mode of getting the
attention of a rescue ship. He works on building shelters for the members of the tribe. He attempts
to keep meetings organized and establishes the role of the conch to keep order. Ralph makes the
decisions for the good of the group. He holds debates and always aims to have the group stick
together, despite Jack s constant attempts to break

Comparing Sports Psychology
The word athletics comes from the Greek word athlos, and it means contest or task. The two
articles, The Effect of IAAF Kids Athletics on the Physical Fitness and Motivation of Elementary
School Students in Track and Field by Blatsis Petros, et. al., and Sport Psychology: the Ultimate
Spring Board of Excellence by Jitendra Mohan, are both written in different sub disciplines of
athletics, and therefore, the purposes of the articles differ. The articles are based on the similar
topics, but the authors wrote the articles for different disciplines; therefore, the articles differ in
language, structure, and the reference style they use.
II. Structure The articles employ different structures; one is written in chronological order and the
other is organized by problem and solution. Sport Psychology: the Ultimate Spring Board of
Excellence is formatted so that the reader can understand the origins of sport psychology. The
author, Jitendra ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The similarities were fewer than the differences, but that was mostly because they were written
for different disciplines. It is important that various disciplines approach the same topic because it
will provide a holistic view of the concept. It will expand other s point of view and will cause them
to get a better understanding. Many disciplines research this topic because athletics can come from
a mental, physical, and/or emotional perspective. The article, The Effect of IAAF Kids Athletics on
the Physical Fitness and Motivation of Elementary School Students in Track and Field had a
physical and emotional perspective toward athletics. On the other hand, the article, Sport
Psychology: the Ultimate Spring Board of Excellence had more of a mental perspective towards
athletics. Thus, the different perspectives and disciplines will cause the authors to write the articles
with differing language, structure, and reference

Schizophrenia Characteristics
As an individual experiences a break from reality, it is acceptable to indicate they have entered into
a psychosis state; which often leaves a person feeling frighten and confused among a combination
of other symptoms. Many of these symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized
thinking, abnormal motor behavior, negative symptoms and are also referenced as psychotic
symptoms as well. In addition, the presence of the different symptoms often become the indications
of some type of a schizophreniaspectrum disorder depending on the severity, duration and
complexity of the symptoms. A person diagnosed with schizophrenia typically struggles with
cognitive, behavioral and emotional, occupational and social dysfunction. The essential features of
schizophrenia must include at least two symptoms for a considerable amount of time during one
month. These symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, highly
disorganized/catatonic behavior and negative symptoms (diminished emotional expression). In
conjunction with the symptoms, continuous signs of the disturbance must carry on for at least six
months as well, along with the inability to function in one or more major areas (work, self care,
interpersonal relationships). Lastly, the indicators of the disorder is not caused or linked... Show

We also need are papers to look off of in case we need more information. First we would have to

rates are. Then we will have to find out the quantity of the two bags of Oreo s. Finally we will have
to find out which one is the of the unit s is the better deal. First we have to find out our two prices
and unites. Which is $2.75 for a big bag and $2.75 for a smaller bag. If you get a big bag you get 30
cookies and if you get a small bag you get 25 cookie. So if there s 30 cookies in a big bag and 25
cookies in a small bag it would be the better unit because you get 5 more cookies and you re
paying the same price as the smaller bag so over all the big bag would be the better unit. So first
i looked at the the two unites and the prices. Then i seen which one was the better unit out of the
two. Finally I figured out which was the better unit and it was the big bag. So over all I seen that
the big bag is the better unit. Also that the small bag isn t even worth it because they are ripping

PaperFold is a mobile device invented to become a device for every use. It is a device which is
meant to be a laptop, computer, tablet and a smartphone all at the same time. It is made to be
small enough to fit the pocket even when collapsed and yet giving enough real estate to do any
kind of work desired. It is a thin filmed device which gives it a weight approximate to a paper yet
at the same time it is meant to be durable. It has multiple screens all fold able and detachable
giving it large real estate value. And just like a book it is meant to be a navigation easy and at the

considered valid only within the limitations of the presented device and user study. It is believed
that results are sufficiently clear to generalize to other application scenarios and device
morphological. It is recognized that PaperFold prototype has shortcomings that did not allow to
evaluate use by multiple users outside a laboratory environment. In particular, an important future

How Did Shakespeare Influence The American Theatre
There are lots of important things that were created in the Renaissance. Drama was one of the
most impressive inventions that they improved. One of the theaters that they had was the Globe
Theater. Even though the Globe Theater was destined for failure, it became successful due to
Shakespeare and the support of the Royal Monarch. Before understanding Shakespeare and his
impact on the Globe you have to know a little bit of information on plays and prediction in the
Renaissance time period. The plays before Shakespeare connected more to a religious point of view
and the morals were more simple(Currie,109). Playwrights were based off of morals for the writing
in the books, just like how to day we have movies based off books. The only difference is that the
plays were played of of religious books. An example of one of their most common morals Stephen
Currie writes in a book, One person is example for everyone . There was two theaters and 160,000...

Analysis Of The Book The Terror Essay
The terror always begins in a holiday
Bare winter with a woody plant, dotted about the town square light up the festive with colors. A
trail of small lanterns glow the church to the middle of town up on the lonely hill inviting all to join
the night mass later that day.
A lonely , lost and forgotten wanders through the crowd. No man pays him any attention or even
notices him. Yet, he d been coming here for years. well too many to remember. He s no longer
warmed by the sweet scents of pine trees drifting over the crowd of carol singers. He always looks
among the crowd because it remind him of the life he once had and could never retrieve.
It would be wise for him to leave now before it s too late but as always something distracts him.
With a sentimental fondness, he watches a young girl with a age of five or six years, as she stares
up into the night sky trying to glimpse Santa s sleigh. Then he smiles broadly at her squeal of joy
as the first flakes of snow begin to tumble to down, dusting everything with a soft magical powder.
Her parents shiver and wrap their scarfs tighter around their faces while clutching song sheets in
their gloved hands, determined not to let the chilly weather deter them from this annual traditional.
In the far corner of the square standing before a flood lit nativity scene stands a man dressed in a
Father Christmas costume. He announces the next carol to be sung and Away in a Manger rises
from the assembled choir. It must be early, the

Should Nuclear Waste Be Stored In South Australia
Should nuclear waste be stored in South Australia?
Should we be letting the rest of the world use our backyard as a dump for nuclear waste? South
Australia is considering to build a nuclear waste dump which would ultimately hold 13% of the
worlds high level nuclear waste. Currently this waste is being held around the world in different
locations, i agree this is not a permanent solution but neither is burying it in the ground. I don t
agree that we should be building a nuclear waste dump in South Australia but instead putting our
time and money towards something more renewable would be a better investment. Nor is it
necessary because in thirty years the world will run on renewable energy.
We are forgetting the crucial what if question. What if there was a radiation leak in the containers

The Negative Effects Of Television Violence On Children
Children aged five to 16 spend an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen...
(Wakefield). But unfortunately, much of the television today is full of violence. Scientists believe
that the effects of TV violence on children and teenagers may cause them to become immune to the
consequence of violence, terror or horror, cause them to be unable to handle their problems in a
healthy form and cause them to copy, imitate, the violent behavior they see on the television.
Therefore, there needs to be a removal of violence from cartoons such as the ones on Boomerang,
as it is negatively affecting children.
One cause from the effect of violence from screen time or TV is: it can cause children or teenagers
to become immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror. Children and teenagers can
become immune or not affected as a result of violence when they watch violent cartoons.
One opposing this might state that if violent cartoons are removed than that takes away the right of
choice for what people can watch. But, the programming of kids shows, normally cartoons,
displays up to 20 violent acts hourly. Eventually, this could cause them to be immune to violence if
they are watching it six and a half hours a day.
The AACAP(Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) states that if children are watching a
great amount of violence on TV then they are more likely to not connect pain and negativity with
violence. Television violence affects children through a

Student Loan Is The Most Powerful Weapon
Education is the most important tool a person can have, Nelson Mandela believed that Education
is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Education is a tool that
cannot be taken away. This is what makes it so powerful, conventional weapons break down, fail,
and can be taken while knowledge cannot be. Sadly student loandebts are increasing at an alarming
rate. The days of working all summer or part time throughout the school year in order to pay
tuition are long gone and private student loans are the only viable answer for many students

The next argument is that we simply cannot afford it. The United States put an average of 663.4
billion dollars per year from 2010 to 2015 into our military (Davies, 2015). For a comparison the
Chinese who have the world s second largest military spent around 145 billion in 2015 (Wong,
Buckley 2015). If we can afford to put hundreds of billions of dollars into our military each year
then why can t we afford to educate the future workers and professionals of America? There is no
need for that much spending on our military and it can be moved from the military into education
in order to make higher education more affordable. Critics are focusing only on one of the major
issues, which is the issue of money and they are completely ignoring the ideological issues.
Education is extremely important and is necessary in order for people to support themselves and
their country. Education is a fundamental human right that is necessary in order to promote
individual freedom and exercise other rights (United Nations). Education is a necessity in America
but has time goes on it is getting far more difficult to obtain. Education benefits not just the
individual who is obtaining the education but it is a public good and an investment in our collective
future as a country (Applebaum, 2014). A

Summary Of A Winter Tale Op 9
Josef Suk was a Czech composer and violinist. In 1894, Suk composed a piece of his works
called A Winter s Tale Op. 9, which was based on Shakespeare. In the beginning years of his
career, he was influenced by Antonin Dvorak, who was Suk s professor at a music academy
called Prague Conservatory. In 1898, Josef Suk ended up marrying Otilie Dvorak, who was the
daughter of Antonin Dvorak. Within the happy life they lived together, Otilie was impressed with
her father s and husband s works of musicand she loved to play the piano, but sadly died at a
young age. After the death of Otilie, Suk went back to revise A Winter s Tale, which was later
released to the public in May of 1999. A Winter s Tale Op. 9, based on Shakespeare was written
in 1894. This falls into the genre romance and it has a dramatic structure. The storyline is about
two lovers and how the music variations symbolize their battles with being together. The overture
starts with a slow introduction to the piece of work. A clarinet is heard against a descending
figure for muted violins. It reflects to the storyline, which starts with an act of jealousy, due to the
King of Sicilia suspecting that his wife is cheating on him with one of his friends. The King of
Sicilia s daughter was abandoned by her father s orders and brought in a country village.
Eventually, the intensity of the music grows by the movement of an Allegro, meaning it moves in a
direction at a brisk tempo. As the music piece moves in an Allegro

The United States will not just sit back and let Spain destroy its new economic interest. The USS
MAINE was on maneuvers when it exploded in the Havana harbor. This infuriated President
McKinley, which led Congress to declare war on Spain. The Spaniards did not stand a chance
against the U.S. and granted Cuba independence in December of 1898. Cuba had now gained its
independence from Spain, but would remain under the control of the United States government.
The United States built roads, sewer systems, and schools so Cubans could be civilized . The
U.S. government leaders saw nothing contradictory in their presiding over Cuba s emergence as
an independent nation. (Smith p.265) The United States decided that Cuba could not govern itself
just yet, so the U.S. felt it necessary to incorporate the Platt Amendment. This gave the U.S. the
right to literally run the economy, veto international commitments, and intervene in domestic
politics of Cuba. Cuba s first president Tomas Estrada Palma, was like the sidekick to the United

Yankee dominance and kept Jose Marti s dream alive. Palma won a second term by election fraud.
The election fraud led to a revolt, which forced the U.S. military to occupy the island for three years.

those who were not born into this faith? How will they ever believe in the existence of God? They

Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 added the voluntary
prescription drug program under the Medicare program. With the No Social Security Benefits for
Prisoners Act of 2009, prisoners were prohibited from collecting social security benefits while they
were in prison or in violation of parole or probation. The most recent change enacted to the Social
Security program was the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation
Act of 2010. This Act instituted a 2% reduction in employee s payroll taxes. (www.ssa.gov/history)
The state of our current Social Security program is that there are fewer workers to fund the
Social Security program through payroll taxes due to the decrease in number of birth rates per
woman. Simple math shows that less people to contribute equals less money being funded. Social
Security payroll taxes were just reduced from 6.2% to 4.2% per worker. To be eligible to receive
Social Security benefits, you must earn 40 credits which is equivalent to 10 years of working. The
monthly retirement benefit amount is based on the retired workers lifetime earnings.

The Education For All Handicapped Children Act
Public Law 94 142
The Education for All Handicapped Children Act, also know as Public Law 94 142, was signed into
law by President Gerald Ford on November 29, 1975. IT took effect in 1997, and was deigned to
assure that all handicapped children have available to them a free appropriate public education
which emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs
(BOOK). This is considered the Bill of Rights for children who have disabilities and for their
families. There are key provisions incorporated into this law, and they have forever changed the
landscape of education across the United States ( Special Education Public Policy Project IDEAL. ).
These six provisions include zero reject, nondiscriminatory evaluation, individualized education

One of the provision for Public Law 94 142 is zero reject. This refers to all the children with

Terrestrial Ecology
Introduction
We know that light is an important part of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. In a forest
system both the canopy and the understory absorb light. The type of forest and leaf cover present
determines the amount of light that reaches the understory. This can be measured using the LAI
(Leaf Area Index), which is the amount of leaves per unit ground area. Light quantity in forests is
affected by several factors such as tree species, age, and density.
Looking at the amount of light that can penetrate to the understory also shows how much moisture
can reach that level. The amount of light and moisture that reaches the forest floor determines how
much biomass will be present in this layer. The goal of

describes the conditions of several of America s public schools. Kozol visited schools in
neighborhoods and found that there was a wide disparity in the conditions between the schools in
the poorest inner city communities and schools in the wealthier suburban communities. How can
there be such huge differences within the public school system of a country, which claims to

Although the statistics are more than 10 years out of date, the reality of America school
segregation has not changed. The barely functional buildings, lack of up to date text books (or in
many cases any text books), overcrowded classes, non existent lab and computer equipment, and
low paid teachers create a situation of despair that leads to a drop out rate of more than 50% in
many districts. And even those who graduate are often barely literate. Kozol draws the clear link
between these schools and the imprisonment of the oppressed nations who, after dropping out of a
dead end education, end up locked behind bars.
The overt racism of this system is exposed when districts with little money run out of space for
their kids and try to rent empty space from wealthier districts. Those that agree require the kids to

Essay on Antigone is a Tragic Hero
Antigone is a Tragic Hero A subject of debate in Sophocles play Antigone is which character
complies with the characteristics of a tragic hero. The qualities that constitute a tragic hero are, in
no particular order, having a high social position, not being overly good or bad, isolation, being
tenacious in their actions, arousing pity in the audience, a revelatory manifestation, and having a
single flaw that brings about their own demise and the demise of others around them. Creon
possesses some of these qualities but, does not completely fulfill them all. Antigonedoes, however,

The act of burying her brother was a form of isolation. No one else dared to go against Creon s law
that forbade the burial of Polyneices. Antigone went against the law and mourned her brother.
A tragic hero possesses a flaw that leads to their demise and the demise of others. Antigone never
attempted to speak to Creon about the possibility of a burial for her brother. She broke the law.
Ismene offered to take part in the blame but, Antigone was set against it. Refusing to let Creon
get his way she took her own life. Had she waited a little longer she would have been released
and her brother would have been given the proper respect. Antigone, being rash and quick to act,
hung herself. Her flaw led to the death of her future husband and his mother (Eurydice). Haemon
was enraged by his fathers actions against his bride to be and, his failed attempt to murder Creon
was followed by his own suicide. Haemon s mother heard of what her son had done and, took her
own life. Though Haemon and Eurydice committed suicide it was Antigone s actions that led to
their self annihilation.
Creon is not tenacious in nature. He wavers on the burial of Polyneices throughout the play. He is
stubborn against the burial but, changes his mind later on. A tragic hero would stick to their
beliefs without teetering back and forth. Antigone stays with her story and beliefs. Even so, the
god of Death demands these rites (Lines 517 518). She feels as though she had done

Animal Testing Should Be Made A Better Society For People
Animal testing has many advantages that have made a better society for people. Animal testing
can be defined as, the use of non human animals in research and development projects, esp. for
purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs ( Dictionary 1 ). Animal
testing is literally how it sounds to others. Animals are being tested on in order to try different
products made by scientists in order to better the society.
One advantage of animal testing is that animal testing has contributed to many life saving cures
and treatments. The California Biomedical Research Association states that almost every
medical breakthrough in the last century has directly resulted from the use of animals. Insulin
was discovered with a lot of different experiments in which dogs had their pancreases removed
from their body. This was critical because it began to save people from having diabetes. Animal
research has also played a role in major advances of understanding and treating conditions such as
breast cancer, brain injury, malaria and tuberculosis. The Director of the University of Texas
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center s Animal Research Facility, Chris Abee, states that we would not
have a vaccine for hepatitis B without chimpanzees, and says that the use of chimps is our best
hope for finding a vaccine for Hepatitis C, which is a disease that kills 15,000 people every year in
the United States (Animal Testing 1).

The Effects Of Special Education On Special Needs Students
Abstract
Laws and policies related to special needs students are set in place to assist in providing an
appropriate education in the most least restrictive environment possible for special needs students.
A Law is defined as a rule that is created by the government of a town, state or country. A law is
created in hopes of settling a cause. Within the past 25 years laws pertaining to Special Education
have evolved for the better of special needs students around the country. Prior to completing this

because of it all young girls, even boys should be aware of the diversity within our society.
Secondly, by having culturally diverse Disney princesses they can teach all girls, that anyone

On another note, thinking about Disneyworld and Disneyland millions of girls of different

Barth
The Importance to Christian History
Barth stands out in the history of theology as an important source and one of the greatest
theologian of his age. With deep conviction, that theology is a serious and responsible intellectual
discipline with its own proportions. Barth used his time to serve God through his teaching and
writing. Barth taught that our knowledge corresponds to God s knowledge when our thought is
conformed to God s Word, and that our guidance is found in the decision making of faithful
obedience. God endowed the human being with decision making by grace in Christ to become a
decision making agent. Richardson, K. A. (2004), p 210,para2 . Barth s work is a testimony of the

Karl Barth was the most important Swiss theologian of the twentieth century. Without a doubt, his
theology had style and thorough reconstruction many times. He reached high in his thinking, and
speaking for the sake of humankind which cries out for God. Barth was a witness for Christ. His
entire life and thoughts announced that God is a cheerful word and our knowledge corresponds to
God s knowledge when our thoughts are conformed to God s Word. We learn from Barth to stay
centered on Jesus Christ, because if do not take heed, we risk competing with other knowledge that
can distract us for our purpose.
Christian theology can be viewed as teaching the language and concepts that shape belief and
practices of the community. Karl Barth edified the community of Jesus Christ and helped shape a

Doctor Paddock And Doctor Medaris
Doctor Paddack versus Doctor Medaris
At most colleges it is important for there to be superior professors. Students prefer to choose
professors who have strong teaching styles and who will help them succeed in college. They may
have the same degree or other similarities. However, most professors often have differences
between each other. This is true for the professors at Manhattan Christian College, specifically
Doctor Paddock and Doctor Medaris. Although Doctor Paddock and Doctor Medaris have unique
similarities, they share obvious differences. These differences include measurement of knowledge,
interaction with students, and presentation of material.

He instead assigns forums, chapter questions, and readings. Doctor Medaris likes for students to
have detailed and thorough responses. The questions from both the forum and the readings are
generally asking about the student s personal leadership role or about their past. As an illustration,
he assigned the questions; What is one of the most challenging changes you have had to make in
your life? How did you handle this change? What have you learned about yourself through this
change? Questions like these, allow the students to think through and process what it is that they
believe about leadership and why. These questions often bring up past memories of either being in
leadership or being under another person s leadership and their effect on the student.
At Manhattan Christian College, they utilize an online system, MCC Online This is an excellent
tool for professors and students to communicate by handling assignments, checking grades, and
reviewing notes. Doctor Paddock and Doctor Medaris consistently interact with their students on
MCC Online, although they use it differently. In this case, Doctor Medaris has students submit their
forums and assigned questions through MCC Online. While on the other hand, Doctor Paddock has
students take the quizzes and tests through this tool and he posts the notes from his lectures after
each class. Another way professors stay interacted with their students is during scheduled class

King George Sound A Harbour
This essay will look at the area currently known as King George Sound a harbour in Albany,
Western Australia, and how it came to be known as the friendly frontier by many historians after
reports of harmonious behaviour between British explorers, early settlers and the local Aboriginal
community. George Vancouver sailed and moored his ship in a harbour which he named King
George the Thirds Sound after discovering how sound it was for ships while also honouring the
king of his time King George the Third, though in recent times the name has been shortened to King
George Sound. There has been numerous records of European and in particular British explorers

It is important to acknowledge that there are many similarities between the encounters of the
British and the Aboriginals here as there are in regions further north, but it is the differences that
resulted in the uncommon friendship that developed in King George Sound. A possible factor
for is a the theory of self fulfilling prophecy developed by Rosenthal and Jacobson in 1968, so
when Flinders reported the friendly and peaceful behaviour displayed by the native Aboriginals,
later explorers read the journal in order to gain a level of knowledge and they were informed to
expect welcoming behaviour. So when the explorers arrived they were friendly toward the local
Aboriginals due to the expectations that were strongly influenced from the knowledge in the
journals they read, so it followed that the Aboriginals responded in kind displaying a friendly
nature. So for a number of years this unusually harmonious relationship was maintained, leading to
King George Sound being given the label the friendly frontier by historian Neville Green.
Philip King was employed to follow in Flinders wake in order to further explore King George
Sound, it was his second visit in 1821 that proved crucial in developing a detail view of

Robert Frost Explication Analysis
Poetry Explication Essay The poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was published in
Robert Frost s New Hampshire in 1924 (Pritchard). The poem is among the most easily
recognizable and familiar works written by Frost. On the surface, this poem is a short encounter at
the edge of a snowy forest. Perhaps its outer simplicity is what makes the poem stand out in the
minds of readers. The straightforward structure and balanced rhymepattern make it easy to recite
and the imagery Frost evokes is both beautiful and engaging. However, this surface level is only a
façade to the underlying subject matter. As Ciardi puts it, the surface level events display ... the
pretended simplicity of the narrative, suggesting that Frost intends a deeper... Show more content on

He also doesn t describe the physical traits or gender of the narrator (hereinafter referred to as
male). This is an attempt to make the situation more easily relatable to a large pool of readers
representing any errand as well as any person. As Ciardi puts it, The errand ... is left generalized
in order the more aptly to suggest any errand in life and, therefore, life itself (Ciardi 14). Ciardi
goes on to examine the man talked about in the poem. This man represents the village of mankind
and thus tells us that the narrator is divided or has chosen to divide himself from society at least
for a short horse ride (Ciardi 14). This division is an important theme in the poem, instantly
showing us that the reflection is a highly personal experience for the narrator. The horse in the
poem, on the other hand, is the narrator s connection to reality. Ciardi goes so far as to call the
horse the foil of the protagonist for disagreeing with his actions demonstrated in the line My little
horse must think it queer / To stop without a farmhouse near (CITE). This horse has been subject to
analysis by other critics as well, Virginia Faulkner explains that the horse represents male sexual
potency (Faulkner 560). Though not many critics agree with Faulkner in the respect that the poem
is dealing with an amatory adventure, the sexual connotations of the horse still adhere to its
connection with the narrator through the symbolism of

Prophet Vs Watchman
In order to fully understand the prophets and their message, it is important to recognize some
fundamental facts. The presentation provided a rudimentary definition of a prophet, which goes
beyond the normal meaning of foretelling the future. Dr. Yates metaphorically compared the
prophet to a watchman, which imparted great insight. The watchman was explicitly set in place to
stand or watch for any approaching enemies, and to warn of any impeding danger. The comparison
and explanation does not remove the foretelling or forthtelling role of the prophet, but augments it
by providing a factual interpretation of an inherited responsibility. As a watchman, it was the
prophet s assignment not only to confront the sins of that day, but to warn them of Gods
forthcoming judgment. The message of judgment from God was proclaimed with hope that
repentance would come in order to avoid the severity of the God s calamity. The prophets used
metaphoric expressions to show the severity of man s sin or God s judgment.

was invented
by a man named Tim Berners Lee in 1989 (Toshniwal, 2004). He wanted to create a way for
scientists and researchers across the world to be able to share documents. With the World Wide
Web they would be able to download a collection of documents to a computer, and those documents
would be connected to other related documents via hyperlinks (Longman). A hyperlink in a
connection from one page to another by clicking it with a mouse, this can be done to images or

When creating the World Wide Web Berners Lee also created HTML, which stands for Hypertext

Extremities In American History X
American History X is a film production about a man named Derek Vineyard. The movie
presented his life during a tough period of when he was sent to prison for killing two men who
tried to break into and steal his truck. Throughout the movie, his brother, Danny Vineyard,
narrated Derek s story in which he spoke of his experience as a skinhead and a leader of a violent
white supremacist gang. Through Derek s experience the movie is able to demonstrate the
extremities of gang related communities and how it affects African American cultures. In the
movie, the main character lacked the mindset of the African American culture. Because of his dad,
he was heavily influence to hate African Americans. In one scene, he and his family are at the

There are numerous accounts of actions by Roosevelt and his top armed forces advisors, which
reveal they were not only aware of an attack by Japan, but also they were planning on it, and
instigating that attack.
Roosevelt had wanted to enter the war for a long time. He believed Hitler would not declare war
on the United States unless he thought they were beatable. Also, the United States public opinion
was against going to war due to the stable and booming economy. Most of American society
before the Pearl Harbor attack also believed in the idea of isolationism. Americans didn t want to
get into the European war if they didn t have to. The only way in which Roosevelt could obtain
support from the American people to enter the war was that a member of the Axis Power needed to
make the first move. In other words, the Americans would need something to revenge from.
To get the Japanese to attack, Roosevelt would need to provoke Japan. Lieutenant Commander
Arthur H. McCollum provided him with a detailed, eight step procedure for making Japan to make
the first overt move into war. The United States government made an arrangement with Britain for
the use of British bases in the Pacific, particularly Singapore. They cooperated with Holland for
the use of base facilities in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). They would give all possible
aid to the Chinese government of Chiang Kai shek. A division of long range heavy

Migrant Workers and Xenophobia
In addition, the continued increase of the migrant workers in Singapore might lead to xenophobia
in the country. According to Khan, Rola and Ruxandra migrant workers continue to suffer
economic prejudice because government employment policies operate in favor of national
workers (1). In Singapore, migrant workers make up a larger percentage of the population
thereby leading to competition over employment with the natives. As such, the possibility of
xenophobia prevailing in Singapore is high. This is because competition between natives and
foreigners over meager economic resources has always led to xenophobia in many other
countries. For example, xenophobia has been a problem in South Africa because the residents
accuse African immigrants from the horn of Africa for stealing their jobs (Slier, para. 3). The
xenophobia problems come from unemployed South Africans. Nonetheless, most of the
immigrants struggle to earn a living in the same way the natives do but the natives view them as
competitors. For instance, most successful immigrant groups are Somalis. The reason for the
success of the Somalis is their entrepreneurial skills as well as their strong intra ethnic ties that
resemble those of the Indians. Each slum has an isolated Somali neighborhood where most Somali
refugees live and work (Abdi, para. 7). Nonetheless, most Somali refugees and immigrants face
insecurity from the local vigilante groups and gangs because they view them as aliens. However,

How Did British Colonization Affect The Development Of The...
Main Idea 1
Seventeenth century Spanish, French, Dutch, and British colonizers embraced different social and
economic goals, cultural assumptions, and folkways, resulting in varied models of colonization.
Spain sought to establish tight control over the process of colonization in the Western Hemisphere
and to convert and/or exploit the native population. French and Dutch colonial efforts involved
relatively few Europeans and used trade alliances and intermarriage with American Indians to
acquire furs and other products for export to Europe. Unlike their European competitors, the English
eventually sought to establish colonies based on agriculture, sending relatively large numbers of
men and women to acquire land and populate their settlements, while having relatively hostile
relationships with American Indians. The British American system of slaverydeveloped out of the
economic, demographic, and geographic characteristics of the British controlled regions of the New
World. Reinforced by a strong belief in British racial and cultural superiority, the British system
enslaved black people in perpetuity, altered African gender and kinship relationships in the colonies,
and was one factor that led the British colonists into violent confrontations with native peoples. The
New England colonies, founded primarily by Puritans seeking to establish a community of like
minded religious believers, developed a close knit, homogeneous society and a thriving mixed
economy of agriculture

The story plot is about a man named Beowulf, whom with his men fight against evil and never lose. There are many lessons that are learned though out this story. It is sad to say, but many people have started putting and thinking of themselves first. By reading Beowulf, people will realize the importance of putting others before oneself. Also, when the character, Beowulf, first arrives with his men to defeat Grendel which is the monster he tells the man who stops them who his father and lord are and what his goal is before he even says his name. This shows that he just wants to help out of good will, not to just get his name around. This caused others to respect him more. So if students reading this piece of literature learn why it is important though the story of Beowulf actions, then maybe they will start to do that as well. • 4. Identifying Strategies to Improve African American College... Minorities are a growing segment of the population. However, this group continues to be underrepresented in the area of post secondary education. Obtaining an advanced degree remains a likely predictor of future career success. The problem facing the minority student is that barriers persist which continue to hinder enrollment, retention, and graduation rates in institutions of higher education. These barriers must be identified and examined and solutions offered if college completion rates are to be increased for this population. While overall college enrollment and graduation rates have risen for all minority groups, there continues to be concerns for this segment of the population, particularly for African Americanstudents. Even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The U.S. Department of Education s Digest of Education Statistics (2010) compiles data on educational trends and statistics in the United States. According to the digest, in 2009 African Americans earned about 10 percent of all bachelor degrees awarded. Furthermore, about 20 percent of African Americans currently hold a college degree. When compared to the same rates for the white non hispanic population, African Americans are largely lagging behind. The challenges that African Americans are facing must be met by post secondary institutions if this group is going to continue on the path of economic and career prosperity. This need is discussed in the report Minorities in Higher Education: Although greater access to higher education for students of color is an absolute imperative, it is only part of the equation. Ensuring their academic success and readiness to thrive in an interconnected world remains the ultimate goal. In a global economy, providing greater access to post secondary education to individuals from all racial and ethnic backgrounds remains one of the most important challenges facing our nation. Demographic changes have increased the proportions of people of color in the United States, and our academic population (Ryu, 2009, p. i). The relationship between ethnicity and retention in post secondary education has been widely discussed in the literature. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory, author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes his version as a script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative, Gilliam writes his movie as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of King Arthur, and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend. While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grailboth share a common plot, the works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries to appease changes each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry Gilliamis trying to entertain a more modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written, people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of tyrannical kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard III who was reigning just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ID, Ego and Superego in Lord of the Flies The exemplification of Freud s id, superego, and ego: A look at Jack, Piggy, Simon and Ralph within The Lord of the Flies Freud primarily subscribed to the idea that there are two energies that drive human behavior. These two energies are sex the pleasure principle and aggression. The human mind is comprised of the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. Within the realms of the mind, the human personality is controlled by the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is driven by the pleasure principle. Simon is the one boy who never participates in destructive behaviors and always contributes to the well being of the boys. He continues to work even after everyone stops, gives Piggy food when no one else will, and speaks his mind about the beast. He is also the only one to realize that the true beast is inside the boys. Simon s moral compass, much like the superego, allows him to see the evil of mankind. Simon is whole heartedly good. The superego attempts to lead a person to the morally right pathway, much like Simon aims to show Ralph how he can do what s best for the tribe. The primitive nature of the others overpowers Simon s internal good nature. Even after his death, Simon s moral nature lives on through the boys similar to how the superego can continue to shine after a person follows the desires of the id. Ralph s character embodies the ego. The ego is the rational aspect of the mind. Ralph s rationality is exhibited in his role as leader. He focuses on the idea of being rescued and organizes the fires as a mode of getting the attention of a rescue ship. He works on building shelters for the members of the tribe. He attempts to keep meetings organized and establishes the role of the conch to keep order. Ralph makes the decisions for the good of the group. Finally we will have to find out which one is the of the unit s is the better deal. First we have to find out our two prices and unites. Which is $2.75 for a big bag and $2.75 for a smaller bag. If you get a big bag you get 30 cookies and if you get a small bag you get 25 cookie. So if there s 30 cookies in a big bag and 25 cookies in a small bag it would be the better unit because you get 5 more cookies and you re paying the same price as the smaller bag so over all the big bag would be the better unit. So first i looked at the the two unites and the prices. Then i seen which one was the better unit out of the two. Finally I figured out which was the better unit and it was the big bag. So over all I seen that the big bag is the better unit. Also that the small bag isn t even worth it because they are ripping you off. Also that the big bag has 30 cookies in it. One of the theaters that they had was the Globe Theater. Even though the Globe Theater was destined for failure, it became successful due to Shakespeare and the support of the Royal Monarch. Before understanding Shakespeare and his impact on the Globe you have to know a little bit of information on plays and prediction in the Renaissance time period. The plays before Shakespeare connected more to a religious point of view and the morals were more simple(Currie,109). Playwrights were based off of morals for the writing in the books, just like how to day we have movies based off books. The only difference is that the plays were played of of religious books. But unfortunately, much of the television today is full of violence. Scientists believe that the effects of TV violence on children and teenagers may cause them to become immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror, cause them to be unable to handle their problems in a healthy form and cause them to copy, imitate, the violent behavior they see on the television. Therefore, there needs to be a removal of violence from cartoons such as the ones on Boomerang, as it is negatively affecting children. One cause from the effect of violence from screen time or TV is: it can cause children or teenagers to become immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror. Children and teenagers can become immune or not affected as a result of violence when they watch violent cartoons. One opposing this might state that if violent cartoons are removed than that takes away the right of choice for what people can watch. But, the programming of kids shows, normally cartoons, displays up to 20 violent acts hourly. Eventually, this could cause them to be immune to violence if they are watching it six and a half hours a day. • 35. Terrestrial Ecology Lab Terrestrial Ecology Introduction We know that light is an important part of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. In a forest system both the canopy and the understory absorb light. The type of forest and leaf cover present determines the amount of light that reaches the understory. This can be measured using the LAI (Leaf Area Index), which is the amount of leaves per unit ground area. Light quantity in forests is affected by several factors such as tree species, age, and density. Looking at the amount of light that can penetrate to the understory also shows how much moisture can reach that level. The amount of light and moisture that reaches the forest floor determines how much biomass will be present in this layer. The goal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Essay on Response to Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol Response to Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol In Savage Inequalities, Jonathan Kozol describes the conditions of several of America s public schools. Kozol visited schools in neighborhoods and found that there was a wide disparity in the conditions between the schools in the poorest inner city communities and schools in the wealthier suburban communities. How can there be such huge differences within the public school system of a country, which claims to provide equal opportunity for all? It becomes obvious to Kozol that many poor children begin their young lives with an educationthat is far inferior to that of the children who grow up in wealthier communities. Towns close enough to easily integrate face almost total segregation with abysmal conditions in the Black and/or Latino schools and tremendously good resources in the white schools. Although the statistics are more than 10 years out of date, the reality of America school segregation has not changed. The barely functional buildings, lack of up to date text books (or in many cases any text books), overcrowded classes, non existent lab and computer equipment, and low paid teachers create a situation of despair that leads to a drop out rate of more than 50% in many districts. And even those who graduate are often barely literate. Kozol draws the clear link between these schools and the imprisonment of the oppressed nations who, after dropping out of a dead end education, end up locked behind bars. The overt racism of this system is exposed when districts with little money run out of space for their kids and try to rent empty space from wealthier districts. Ismene offered to take part in the blame but, Antigone was set against it. Refusing to let Creon get his way she took her own life. Had she waited a little longer she would have been released and her brother would have been given the proper respect. Antigone, being rash and quick to act, hung herself. Dr. Yates metaphorically compared the prophet to a watchman, which imparted great insight. The watchman was explicitly set in place to stand or watch for any approaching enemies, and to warn of any impeding danger. Digging with a larger scale excavation also known as adverse impact mitigation and salvage excavation (White, 2008). An archaeologist may conduct the research for many years on a single site. On this phase, an archaeologist will set up a grid of squares over the entire site by measuring the coordination. String and stakes or measuring tapes were used to measuring the sites. The unit named from measurement going north and east of the point if the site datum is in the southwest corner of the sites and the unit datum is the southwest corner (White, 2008). • 55. Migrant Workers and Xenophobia In addition, the continued increase of the migrant workers in Singapore might lead to xenophobia in the country. According to Khan, Rola and Ruxandra migrant workers continue to suffer economic prejudice because government employment policies operate in favor of national workers (1). In Singapore, migrant workers make up a larger percentage of the population thereby leading to competition over employment with the natives. As such, the possibility of xenophobia prevailing in Singapore is high. This is because competition between natives and foreigners over meager economic resources has always led to xenophobia in many other countries. For example, xenophobia has been a problem in South Africa because the residents accuse African immigrants from the horn of Africa for stealing their jobs (Slier, para. 3). The xenophobia problems come from unemployed South Africans. Nonetheless, most of the immigrants struggle to earn a living in the same way the natives do but the natives view them as competitors. For instance, most successful immigrant groups are Somalis. The reason for the success of the Somalis is their entrepreneurial skills as well as their strong intra ethnic ties that resemble those of the Indians. Each slum has an isolated Somali neighborhood where most Somali refugees live and work (Abdi, para. 7). Nonetheless, most Somali refugees and immigrants face insecurity from the local vigilante groups and gangs because they view them as aliens. However, there has been ... Main Idea 1 Seventeenth century Spanish, French, Dutch, and British colonizers embraced different social and economic goals, cultural assumptions, and folkways, resulting in varied models of colonization. Spain sought to establish tight control over the process of colonization in the Western Hemisphere and to convert and/or exploit the native population. French and Dutch colonial efforts involved relatively few Europeans and used trade alliances and intermarriage with American Indians to acquire furs and other products for export to Europe. Unlike their European competitors, the English eventually sought to establish colonies based on agriculture, sending relatively large numbers of men and women to acquire land and populate their settlements, while having relatively hostile relationships with American Indians. The British American system of slaverydeveloped out of the economic, demographic, and geographic characteristics of the British controlled regions of the New World. Reinforced by a strong belief in British racial and cultural superiority, the British system enslaved black people in perpetuity, altered African gender and kinship relationships in the colonies, and was one factor that led the British colonists into violent confrontations with native peoples. The New England colonies, founded primarily by Puritans seeking to establish a community of like minded religious believers, developed a close knit, homogeneous society and a thriving mixed economy of agriculture ...
